Mentioned briefly in my last post, but I do in fact have holographic worm stickers for sale now.
Tumblr media
There’s far more to the world of Annelida than the humble nightcrawlers you find in your yard; many species are found in marine environments, where they take such varied forms as the fearsome bobbit worm or the ethereal tomopteris. Here I’ve rendered a ragworm (family Nerididae); a sort of polychaete (bristle worm) found in benthic marine (and occasionally freshwater) environments the world over.
Some cool facts to win you over:
1. The largest ragworm in the world is the king ragworm (Alitta virens), which ready achieves lengths of 4 ft/120 cm.
2. Ragworms are an important part of the live sea-bait industry. Unfortunately that also means they have been harvested so extensively in some areas that their populations are threatened.
3. Ragworms reproduce through a bizarre process called epitoky, in which the benthic worm either transforms into a free-swimming reproductive morph, or buds off several free swimming sex-clones to party in the world above. Either way, it will be the final act of the animal’s life.
4. Ragworms, like bobbit worms, have large, eversible mandibles in their pharynx that they extrude to give a nasty bite.
5. On the topic of ragworm jaws, the material they are made of is very strong and lightweight, despite lacking the calcium mineralization of most other animals with hard body structures. There is some research investigating its structure for aerospace engineering applications!

#WormCrushWednesday with a gossamer worm.
The gossamer worm (Tomopteris sp.) lives in the midwater—an open expanse of water far below the surface and far above the seafloor. Unlike its bottom-dwelling kin, the gossamer worm lives in constant motion. This ethereal worm is a graceful swimmer that “dances” through the midwater with the rhythmic paddling of its swimming legs.
Tumblr media
Scientists have described about 60 species of gossamer worms. Most gossamer worms are transparent—an adaptation that allows them to hide in plain sight from both predators and prey. Many are only a few centimeters in length, but the largest are more than 60 centimeters (two feet) long, including their long extendable tails.

I see you have mention other characters could we see how they look like? Oh and here's an ask for the LI created, how would they react with a clingy mc when they are sleeping (like for example the MC always hugs them when they go to sleep)
I do have some of their refs in progress, as well as drawing Kora on paper when I first made them with Phin. I do have other characters in mind that I don't have ideas down for though! I also haven't worked on this project in quite some time as it's not my main project and I'm disliking the style a lot LMAO. But I can show you the refs I have and some information and story that I made for them! ofc with how I feel about this story, a lot will change and progress with the characters.
Tumblr media
Here's Kora! They go by They/He pronouns, using they pronouns more! Their species is a decorator crab, so they're very flashy and arrogant. His yandere type is definitely a possessive yandere, they need you by their side 24/7, after all their favorite decoration is you<3 He doesn't get along with Phin at all, and while they don't trust Gil at all, Gil is at least fun to talk to! They're kind of insufferable to you though, they don't know why they like you so much, seeing as you're just another human.
Tumblr media
Here's Calico, your captain! They go by they/them pronouns. They're yours and Teddy's childhood friend, they've always been cold yet protective of you two(more so you ofc). It's not super obvious he's a yandere, his tendencies mainly come from being protective of you, he's also quick to get rid of anyone who tries to get close to you by making them walk the plank, the sharks(Gil) will get them. Fun fact, he's not actually missing an eye, they just wear the eyepatch to look official, so basically they're a loser
Tumblr media
omg hiiii Teddy! She's really cute to me!! she's like a fail yandere honestly, but you don't suspect her because she's just you sweet childhood friend who's also a huge airhead. She's the boatswain of the crew! She does kill people herself, and she TRIES to hide and clean the bodies but she's really bad at it so yeah you've found a few.
Tumblr media
Gil doesn't have a ref so here's his appearance from Phin's ref closer up. He uses he/him pronouns and he's AWFUL! this smug guy, he's constantly teasing you(flirting), and the others(bullying). He does get along with Kora though, at least he likes Kora enough to not bully him, Kora still gets teased though. He's a great white shark.
sea angel, leafy sea dragon, sea bunny, blanket octopus, Kiwa Hirsuta, strawberry squid, flapjack octopus, orca, Crossota Millsae, feather star, pompei worm, Bloody Belly Comb Jelly, Tomopteris Worm, Barreleye Fish, Vampire Squid, Portuguese man o war, flower hat jelly, Whale shark, Manatee, more to be added

The Tomopteris is a genus of marine planktonic polychaete. All known species of Tomopteris are holoplanktic, which means that they spend their whole life cycles in the open ocean. They swim via their many parapodia, making them fast, strong, and agile swimmers. They inhabit the twilight zone, which is 2,500m (8,200ft) deep. They’ve also been known to produce a yellow bioluminescent mucus, which is a really rare color in the deep sea.

(feel free to correct me if any of the below information is false! I'm just one guy! I won't be able to edit these posts, but a correction is always appreciated anyways)
Tomopteris Worm is a worm that swims by paddling its lil feet together! They have yellow bioluminescence, which isn't a color often seen in bioluminescence! They like to curl up into a ball c:
Harp Sponge eats its prey by catching them in their velco-like hooks, encasing them and tearing them apart! They attach themself to the sea floor with their "roots", and it's likely they look the way they do to maximize the chances of catching prey from all directions!
