compiling what I've established of juniper's and the twins' timeline

both twins survive and arrive at kirkwall. by the time they've prepared for the deep roads expedition, the templars are, dangerously close to them, especially given juniper's done nothing in her templar interactions besides draw attention (most of it negative). so june and bethany go into the deep roads, hoping that the heat will die down after an extended absence, leaving carver behind to hold down the fort and take care of mother while they're gone.

carver's not happy about this at all! and the longer the girls are gone the more he begins to fear the worst, and so he joins the templars since he now might be. the sole responsible person who can keep his mother off the streets. and it's about the only job he can get, and it will pay better than most in the long term. and he figures if when the girls do return he'll be in a better position to help them, or at least warn them.

anyway juniper comes home alone after bethany joins the wardens and carver quickly learns that being a templar is even worse than he expected it to be, and he didn't expect it to be good. after three years in the order he's run completely ragged trying to put out the metaphorical fires juniper keeps starting and he really doesn't feel like she appreciates anything he's been doing to help her. he's been writing to bethany (who has been settling in with the wardens, though not thriving) and he times his visits home to leandra to avoid crossing paths with juniper. the two basically aren't talking at this point.

carver gives the prime suspect quest, rather than aveline. he's as concerned about the deaths as emeric and the two have both been investigating what they can and trying to pass this information on to the guard, but aren't getting anywhere, and they're not exactly free to shirk their duties and do something about it. so carver approaches juniper like, "look, this is important, and I don't think aveline has ever respected me, but maybe you can get through to her." so juniper goes to have a not-so-friendly chat with aveline (the two aren't friendly, have deeply conflicting personalities, and are basically just acquaintances after the four years they've known each other, though juniper accepts the off-the-books mercenary work where aveline offers it) but gets stonewalled as well. so juniper starts looking into the matter herself, with carver helping here and there when and where he can.

they put the pieces together too late, leandra dies, and they're both crushed, and highkey blaming themselves for not trying harder and preventing her death. this is the final straw that kills any lingering relationship that might have existed between juniper and aveline. and with leandra's death carver no longer has anything tying him to kirkwall, aside from maybe his friendship with merrill. he's so done.

legacy dlc happens and bethany gets some time off from the wardens to help her siblings investigate the attacks against them. she's grown a lot in three years, she's a lot more confident, she allows herself to take up a lot more space, but like carver she's embittered and weary. she convinces carver to return to amaranthine with her (she's transferred to the fereldan wardens at some point within the past three years - maybe she wanted to move back home, maybe she met nathaniel and swooned a lil) and he doesn't look back.

then ofc as soon as carver's gone juniper duels the arishok and is outed as a mage lmfao. but she's varric's problem now.

act 3 and after I'm still a little shaky on. the wardens are back in kirkwall following up on the corypheus fiasco when the twins run into junie in the finale. they both stay to help with the conflict, and afterward carver returns to the wardens (he's fucking thriving killing monsters for a living and good for him) but beth is. burnt out. she remains in kirkwall to help with the fallout. so does merrill. they kiss, maybe.

june goes to starkhaven w sebastian after kirkwall. she gets to be the big bossy princess of starkhaven for a brief while (which delights her) but eventually with the mage-templar conflict heating up the way it does seb manages to convince her and isabela to go take a looooong vacation on a boat somewhere far away, which is why she's mysteriously missing at the end of da2/start of inquisition.

oh maybe bethany and merrill also fuck off for a while on isabela's boat? I like that. anders can come too, though he'll be third-wheeling it. just a big ol apostate party boat. they've earned it.

AAAHHH! I just finished reading the latest WDH chapter. IT'S SO AMAZING!!! I loved all of the flashbacks interwoven with the current plot. Also:1) I love Finny and Ciel's relationship. It is too pure and it makes my heart all warm and fuzzy. 2) THE INTERROGATION SCENE *chef's kiss* I loved it! Especially getting to see Undertaker work. That was a real treat. I love how you incorporated his canon quirkiness in this story. 3) When Seb bumps into Bard again- you guys ripped my heart out.

OK first of all: Ahhhhhh! Tysm for this ask, anon! Today was a rough day and seeing this first thing was a huge uplift to my 💕💕💕!

I am SOO happy you enjoyed the chapter!! We worked so hard on that baby and are so proud of it it makes us 😊 to see people who enjoyed it!

1) Finny And Ciel in WDH are friendship/sibling goals, ngl!! I adore how protective and caring of Ciel Finny is, and how he helps Ciel come out of his shell. Likewise, I adore how Ciel gave Finny incentive to train and become stronger. We will see more of them ofc as the story progresses! (And isn’t that selfie art @luci-on-the-moon did of them the best?)

2) me rn: 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰! The interrogation sequence was one of the toughest things to write bc there’s such a delicate dance of fluctuating characterization (both UT and Seb with their personas) and information. It makes me soooo happy to see someone who enjoyed seeing a different side to Ut (than what we’ve seen of him in WDH so far).

“Cop” Undertaker is tough to write but so much fun... to see how he is able to analyze and manipulate people into giving him information... He plays an important role in the story so we will definitely see more of him and his quirky humor— and I love the dynamic between him and Seb.

Like @luci-on-the-moon and I were joking this morning:

Seb: Where’s your eyebrows?

UT: Where’s your mental health?

Seb: Same place as yours, apparently 😏

3) The Bard and Seb moments were ofc our faves bc we love having our hearts ripped out... 😅... Honestly, the moment where Bard says “Don’t make me do this” kills me every time 💔 (and the art...ugh!)!

Next chapter will be quite interesting when Seb wakes up...!

4) Also, I’m glad you enjoyed the flashbacks! I know you’re technically supposed to minimize how much you use them, but I’ve always liked being able to see how someone’s past affects their present and learn more about a character that way (both other people’s works and my own), so I’m glad you liked them in this chapter!!

Warnings: More angst....

Summary: As the news of the King’s death spreads throughout the land, lords and ladies from the nearby countries swarm the castle to offer condolences to the queen and her son. As the prince mourns his father, he is met with the reality that he must now choose a wife and begin his reign.

A/N: Because I was feeling nice and wanted to waste more time and not study Hieroglyphs. Let me know if you want to be tagged HERE.

As the words left your mouth, the Prince couldn’t help but smile, telling one of his guards to bring him your sister. Seating her in front of him, he gave her his gloves to play with before telling one of your brothers to fetch your basket as well as everything else they might need from your home.

You were surprised by the way he was acting all of a sudden.

More importantly, you were amazed by how tender he suddenly became as he played with your sister. You waited in silence next to him, not saying anything and opting to wait to see what he would do.

Your brother came out with the everything and gave it to Sir Rogers, the knight looking for the ruby and looking up to the prince when he didn’t find it.

“Where is it?”

“It is in the safest place I could think of my lord. Would you allow me to bring it or will you keep me tied up?” You asked, waiting to see what his response would be. He unbound you and told you to bring it. As you went inside the house, James asked his most loyal guard to speak with him.

“What are we doing here?” Steve looked at him, knowing very well there was something that James was not telling him.

“I will explain everything once we are with my mother. Just wait.” You came out and gave them the ruby, presenting your hands again to Steve.

“Did you change your mind?” He sarcastically responded before taking your wrists and tying them once more.

“If it means they will be safe, then yes.” You avoided the prince’s gaze, keeping your eyes to the floor and waiting until they started moving.

As you made your way through the village, you were met with different responses. Some people apologized while others laughed at your predicament.

Once you stepped inside the castle, you couldn’t help but look around you and marvel at the beauty of the architecture. It truly was magnificent and the paintings in the market did it no justice.

“Tell my mother that I need to speak with her.” Prince James asked one of the guards to inform the Queen of his arrival along with something you couldn’t quiet hear.

Getting off the horse, he asked Steve to do something and told the rest of the guards he’d take it from there. Motioning for you to follow him, he carried your sister and joked with her while asking your brothers what their names were.

How was this man the same as the one who not an hour ago asked for you to be arrested?

Making your way through the hallways, you were mesmerized by the colors and shapes of the columns and paintings, not noticing the way James kept on stealing glances at you and smiling. Upon arriving to one of the rooms, he asked the guards to leave and not have anyone in the vicinity once the Queen arrives.

Before walking in, Sir Rogers approached you with an elderly woman behind him.

“Your grace.” The old woman curtsied before him.

“May I ask you a favor?”

Did he just ask if she can do him a favor? He’s been ordering around everyone since you met him. What was wrong with him?

“Of course.”

“Can you look after these children for me? This is important. Do not let them out of your sight. Do not tell anyone else to take care of them. They must be with you at all times.”

“Is something the matter?” She took a step forward, placing her hands on his shoulder and looking down at his hands when he motioned for her to take a folder paper.

“This will explain everything. Burn it after you read it.” She nodded and motioned for your siblings to come along. They all looked at you, almost asking if it was okay to go with her. You smiled and mouthed that everything was going to be okay, thanking her before turning around and entering the room.

As Steve shut the door behind him, James walked over to you in a hurry and took hold of your hands, cutting the ropes as quickly as possible before rubbing at your wrists.

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.”

“What?” It was the only word that kept on repeating in your head.

Before he could reply, the queen entered and looked around, her eyes falling on you and looking almost as confused as you were.

“My lady.” You kneeled down, your head spinning from what was taking place around you.

“James what is going on? And who is that lovely young lady you brought?” He grabbed your shoulder and pulled you up to stand next to him.

“I have no proof yet and I do not expect you to believe me, but I believe father was killed.

“What are you talking about?” The queen asked, her voice breaking as his words registered in her mind.

“I believe one of my guards killed him. I asked all of you to meet here and no one else because I do not trust anyone.”

“But why am I here? You falsely accused me of robbing you.” You couldn’t help but cut him off.

“I asked you here because I need your help catch him.”

“And how exactly will I do that?” He ignored your question, turning to his mother before speaking again.

“Mother, you told me I needed to find someone before the court resumed the meeting. And I did.” He pointed to you.

“James are you sure this is what you want?”

“As certain as I am that the moon will shine tonight.”

“Your majesty forgive me but I am confused. How am I supposed to help you?” You wanted to know what they were speaking of and how you could help him.

“By becoming my wife.”

“What?” You and Steve almost yelled the question at the same time, shocked by what you just heard.

“Once I announce I have found a wife, I will be coronated and become the king. The man who killed my father...I am certain he did this for money. We have many enemies...they are all waiting for us to weaken so they could attack. If I am married, this will prove to them that we are still a strong country.”

“So if you announce your marriage, he will try to kill you or her.” Steve finished the sentence, turning to you before telling James that this was a dangerous idea.

“It will work. We will catch him.”

“With all do respect your grace, my life is not yours to do with as you wish. I understand if you want to put yourself in danger to find this man but me? How is that any fair?”

“You told me you’d do anything to keep them safe?”

“I did. And you told me to be your servant. Not your wife!”

“The question still holds.”

“So why the theatrics? Why come to the village? Why arrest me?”

“Will my answer change yours?” “Considering the fact that I have no choice but to obey you, no.”

After a moment of silence, he approached you slowly before looking into your eyes.

“Because I am sure he saw me placing those ribbons yesterday in your basket. If I hadn’t done what I did today, he might have found you sooner and hurt you.”

“And you expect me to believe you somehow care about my well being?”

This is not how he imagined this going.

Unfortunately, the assumptive side of his brain took over, his mind telling him you would never accept him as your husband. He wanted to tell you how you affected him from the first time he saw you. He wanted to tell you how he felt.

Instead, he quickly turned around and gave Steve a paper, whispering something to him before taking his mother outside the room and speak to her.

When he came back into the room, he shut the door and locked it, turning around and striding towards you. As you backed into the wall, he cornered you with his hands, his eyes never leaving yours even for a second.

“You will become my wife whether you like it or not. You will help me catch him. And until we do so, you will remain in these chambers with me.”

Blood Candy Chapter 6

(AH so sorry it’s been a minute lol)

Good news: I did actually wake up that morning.

Bad news: I missed the bus.

The first thing I did was check my phone. Well, this was standard procedure for me, but instead of checking Twitter, I checked my messages. My mom texted me at around 5am with this message:

“Hey, sweetheart. I know you’re probably asleep right now. I got in the house (I know you told me not to, but the cops said they’d be there around the time I would get back and I wanted to meet them there) and, of course, the first thing I did was check on you. I’m sure the relief I felt when I saw that you were alive is obvious, but that’s not the point of this message. I don’t mean to alarm you, but we got here at about 4:30am-ish and we couldn’t find Seb anywhere in the house. The police launched an investigation throughout the area.”

Before leaving the house, I took one last look around to see where Seb was.

It was only when I began closing the door to the guest room did I notice that the closet door was cracked open, the padlock released. It wasn’t broken, I noted when I went to examine it, but there was a black key on the floor next to it that I had never seen before.

I immediately grabbed my stuff, locked the door, and ran to the elevator of the apartment, checking the time. I only had a minute to get to the bus stop, so I opted to take the stairs instead. I ran down all 4 flights of stairs and made a beeline for the bus stop—only to find that it had already taken off.

I took an Uber to school that day. The entire time, my mind raced with possible theories as to how Seb had gotten out.

I hated every single one of the conclusions I had managed to come up with.

I arrived in class 10 minutes later. Fortunately study hall was my first class, so I decided I would take that time to get an extra nap in and make up for the lost hours of sleep. To hell with the Dracula essay, I thought. I can make it up later.

I looked around the classroom for a seat and found my friend Akira, the researcher for AkiSeb Theories. She was fairly easy to spot in a crowd; she always wore that same dark gray anorak jacket with a thistle-colored, heart shaped patch that she had woven onto her jacket sleeve after it got torn one day.

Thank God, I thought. I really needed someone to talk to.

I had met Akira in seventh grade. She was surprisingly social, despite having a relatively small amount of friends. We became fast friends, although we never really became too close until freshman year of high school. One day, she suddenly asked to sit with me and Seb at lunch, clearly distressed. Curious, but deciding not to intrude, I said yes.

Throughout these two and a half years of being close friends with Akira, I had eventually come to the conclusion that she was basically the middle ground for Seb and I. She was analytical, but also imaginative--the mind of an ace detective, and perfect for a conspiracy blog. She wasn’t too idealistic to the point where she would sound like a maniac trying to explain one of Seb’s theories to a normal person, but also not too logical as to rule out Seb’s theories entirely. That’s why I suggested that she join Seb as the researcher for his website when he first started it in eighth grade (my mom helped him set it up when he was over at my house one weekend).

She was tying her short, black, undercut hair in a ponytail. Her laptop was out, probably writing notes for a new conspiracy for the blog.

“Akira!” I said.

Akira turned to me with a tired smile.

“What’s up, DK?” she teased.

“I told you not to call me that,” I sighed.

“And I told you to start your essay early,” Akira retorted, finishing the ponytail and going back to her work, “but here we are. I’m assuming you stayed up till 3am working on it again?”

“For your information, I stayed up until 1am working on it. I ended up actually going to bed at 3:30-ish because Seb tried to kill me last night.”

Much to my annoyance, though I wasn’t surprised in the slightest, Akira laughed. Anyone who knew that me and Seb were incredibly close, which a lot of people did, would never have guessed that he would ever try to kill me for real--not only because he was my best friend, but because the dude couldn’t even lift his own laundry basket.

“You really let a skinny little kid like him get the best of you?” she joked. “Didn’t you tell me you always used to kick his butt when you guys were play fighting when you were, like, 6 years old?”

I shot her a glare. “I’m serious. Plus, he’s seventeen. He’s not so weak anymore.”

Akira froze, the teasing smile dropping from her face.

“Come again?” she said.

“Okay, it’s a fairly long story but…” I said, taking a deep breath, “y’know how I got my blood drawn yesterday? Yeah, I got this doctor named Jasper Kermit who gave me this red candy thing after the bloodwork to ‘keep my energy up’ but I gave it to Sebs instead because you know I’m not one for sweets but when Sebs ate it he started acting weird and his driving skills seemed impaired and he kept getting into crashes almost so I took an Uber and then he tailed us home and then when we finally got home I yelled at him and--“

“Okay, okay, slow down,” Akira said. “Breathe. Start from the beginning.”

I took another deep breath, retold the first part of the story more slowly, and then continued.

“I came to the conclusion that he may have been sick or something. There was no way he’d get us into a crash on purpose, right? Sure, Seb’s a little bit of a reckless driver, but he’s not that bad. Anyway, I went out for a walk and tried to schedule another appointment—“

“Not at the same doctor’s office though, right?” Akira asked.

I paused.

“Uhhhh…” I stammered. Akira facepalmed.

“Dakota, you know I love you, buddy, but you can be a real moron sometimes.” She sighed. “That candy was probably drugged. Actually…maybe you’re good. As long as you got another doctor.”

“That’s the thing,” I said, my voice quivering slightly. “It was Jasper that picked up the phone.”

“The one that spiked the candy? Great.”

“I asked him about it and if there were any allergens but he was being all cryptic…” I fidgeted with a pencil on the desk.

“Did anything else happen?” Akira asked, her once skeptical look turning softer.

“Yes.” I continued to fidget the pencil, only faster this time. “That night, I worked on the essay and fell asleep at midnight, and I woke up to find Sebs just…caressing my wrist with a knife in his hand…”

“…oh God…”

“…he tried to…” I took another deep breath. “…he ended up cutting my finger instead, and he…he licked my blood off of the knife.”

Akira’s dark eyes widened.

“He ended up cornering me at one point…” I continued, “…but I managed to fend him off. I ended up KO’ing him with a baseball bat, and I trapped him in the closet for the night. I barely managed to get any sleep…I’m so tired, but also still shaken up. I’m drifting between falling asleep and being unable to sleep.”

Akira stood up and embraced me in a tight hug.

“You can stay with me and my parents for the time being, if you’d like,” she offered.

I nodded, returning the hug.

“That doctor told me if I wanted to know about the candy, I’d have to go in and find out myself.” I clutched the pencil tight. “But I don’t want to face that dude again.”

“You don’t have to, y’know,” another female voice said. “At least, not alone.”

Akira and I let go of each other and turned around to face the famously lavender-clad, infamously enigmatic Kaveri Vigil.

Now, despite being in this school for four years now, she hasn’t managed to make many friends. At least…not any close ones, none except for Akira. I only met Kaveri once, and that was when I ran into her and Akira at the mall in freshman year when Kaveri dyed her hair for the first time. She was...fairly quiet around me, but as the pair of friends left, the raven-haired girl was talking up an absolute storm--though nothing bad about me, I assumed. In all honesty, if I hadn’t had Seb, then I would’ve been rather envious of Akira and Kaveri’s close relationship.

Rumor has it that she became a lot more anti-social after a ‘family emergency’ that dismissed her from school for the rest of freshman year--around the same time, actually, that Akira started speaking to me more. When Kaveri came back in the middle of sophomore year, she refused to speak to anyone unless she absolutely had to. She even cut several of her classes. It was a miracle she hadn’t been suspended, or worse, expelled. When I asked Akira about her, she refused to speak on the matter. At one point, when I tried asking her again, she seemed to have no clue who I was talking about.

To Akira, Kaveri was practically a stranger. Akira was never the type to make enemies, and it didn’t seem as if Kaveri was either--so for Akira to greet her so venomously was...more than just a little jarring.

“Vigil,” Akira hissed. “I thought you were a recluse. Why come to a pair of unknown loners now?”

Kaveri ignored Akira’s attitude and said, “Don’t get it twisted. I overheard your conversation, and I think it may come in handy for my own theory I’ve been piecing together.”

“…you think you know what’s going on with Sebs?” I asked.

“Maybe. And if we’re lucky, we may be able to save him. However, I’m going to need some help.”

Akira shot Kaveri a glare.

“Oh, now you need my help,” she snapped. “What would you know about this kind of stuff, anyways?

“More than you could ever know,” she answered bitterly.

Akira only shot a glare at her in response, looking like she was biting back the urge to say something else.

“Like I said, don’t get it twisted. I’ll go back to ‘shutting myself out’ once I get to the bottom of this,” Kaveri continued with a rather sarcastic tone toward the end.

I looked at Akira and Kaveri. What’s their deal? I wondered.

“I’d be glad to have some help,” I said. “Let’s meet after school, okay?”

Kaveri nodded, and walked away without another word. I turned to Akira, who had an annoyed expression on her face. She looked back at me, softening a little.

“Do yourself a favor,” she said, “and please don’t ask.”

I didn’t. I understood the value of privacy well.

The rest of the day, I could barely focus in class. If I wasn’t falling asleep, I was doodling stuff from last night—Seb’s spiral eyes, Jasper’s cunning grin, a couple of vampires...

All day, the same question crossed my mind:

If Jasper did, in fact, do this...what in the world did he put in that candy to make Seb want to kill me?
