SHRIMP TOURNAMENT!!!

BEE SHRIMP (Caridina cantonensis)

AKA: nicknames vary based on morph

just like cherry shrimp, these guys are highly diverse and well loved in the aquarium keeping community, as they boast all kinds of beautiful patterns and colors! these highly social creatures feel safer in large colonies, so they love to have tons of friends! for an interesting fact, bee shrimp are mainly nocturnal due to 1: their wild instinct of wanting to avoid predators while they graze, and 2: algae being generally most nutritious and bountiful around dusk, since they grow throughout the daytime. however, bee shrimp in captivity seem to drop this schedule and will just graze whenever they wish.

VAMPIRE SHRIMP (Atya gabonensis)

AKA: african fan shrimp, african filter shrimp, african giant shrimp, blue rhino shrimp, gabon shrimp, cameroon fan shrimp

despite what you may think from their name, these shrimp aren't known for being aggressive at all, and are quite the gentle giants! they get along with many dwarf shrimp quite well, and housing both species in one aquarium can lead to some cute photos of their drastic size difference, like the one shown above! they come in all sorts of colors, mainly cream, dark brown, and deep blue, and more rarely pink, purple, and green- and are even known for changing color under certain water conditions- some change several times in just one year!

Today I learned there’s a bunch of interesting shrimp, and now I want them as Cookies

I’m just going to list some I found today. I’ve already talked about Pistol Shrimp, so I won’t talk about it here

Harlequin Shrimp:

Like where do these things start and end? I don’t know, but they look really cool. I heard they can also change color based on their mood. If you were to make them a Cookie, I’d say make them a clown, perhaps for a rival circus to the Big Top Circus (that was the name of Banana and Ice Juggler’s circus, right?)

Amano Shrimp:

Okay, so maybe they’re not the most interesting looking, and maybe also not the most interesting, but still. Though also I hear that they change color based on their diet? I dunno. But what I was looking at that I thought was interesting was that they’re apparently very active cleaners. I feel like you could make them a cleaner that’s also very particular about messes, and perhaps a bit of a germaphobe? Like, if they see a mess, they just have to clean it

Vampire Shrimp:

(They apparently come in multiple colors, so I just got a few different pictures of different colors)

I think what makes them most interesting is that despite their size (apparently they’re pretty big, at least for shrimp) and name, they’re apparently rather calm and non aggressive. Also they’re supposedly pretty shy and reclusive. Honestly, it kind of reminded me of Dark Choco Cookie, which is probably a big reason I like them. Also they’re very big and bulky, which makes them look kind of cute to me, I don’t know why. Also they only come out at night, which is probably another reason for their name

I don’t have much in terms of ideas for a Vampire Shrimp Cookie, other than people finding them scary at first, only to realize they’re really not. I just wanted to show you them (also I feel like using this for a Dark Choco/Lobster kid if I ever do one)

Ghost/Glass Shrimp:

I mostly just added them because it’s an easy “ghost Cookie” if you wanted to have one. Also they’re see through, which is cool

Bay Ghost Shrimp:

Apparently these shrimps are soft, or at least softer than other shrimp. Also they have asymmetrical claws, as you can see. They apparently spend a lot of time burrowing. I’m also running out of ideas for how to turn this into a Cookie, but I thought it was neat. I suppose it would be something pertaining to its digging abilities

I think I’m gonna stop here, but still, cool shrimp

Edit: oh, also, another one, Boxer Shrimp, also known as Banded Coral Shrimp, among other names

Apparently they use their claws to clean fish and remove things like algae and parasites from them to eat. Also they can sense fish with their antenna apparently. I’d say either go the obvious route of a boxer, or something to do with their cleaning thing, though I don’t know what. Perhaps some sort of doctor? Maybe just confined to other sea creatures?

Also Fairy Shrimp

I wasn’t able to find much on them, but they’re relatively large and slow and typically used as food. Also they like to swim upside down. They’d probably make for a more cute Cookie

You know, I find it kind of ironic how I’m now thinking shrimp are really cool, despite the fact that my dad is allergic to shrimp (and I’m not sure if I am), and my family just generally dislikes seafood

Fyi, Vampire Shrimp (Cookie with the plushie) and Charcoal Cheese (Cookie with the goatee) aren't my Ocs! They belong to my pal @quibbs126 ! Choco Taiyaki and Choco Cheese Log are mine!

The art of Vampire Shrimp and Choco Taiyaki is somewhat meant to be a redraw of art I did of them in the past last year. (Since they're both DarkLobster kids) The art is basically Choco Taiyaki introducing Vampire Shrimp to her friends. Quibbs mentioned that Vampire Shrimp is very shy so that's why they're hiding behind Choco Taiyaki.

Now for the art of Charcoal Cheese and Choco Cheese Log (Dark Cacao x Golden Cheese kids) is them in the Dark Cacao Kingdom. (There's no reason why Charcoal Cheese would actually be in the Kingdom according to his lore but eh ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ )

Also apart of Charcoal Cheese's lore, since his main location is the Parmesan Dessert, I think I'd be funny if Charcoal Cheese would not like the cold one but, even when simply snowing (Quibbs you're free to correct me if this isn't the case) while Choco Cheese Log is basically immune to it since they grew up in the Kingdom and being shirtless 24/7.

Angel as a character is just hard to explain to someone who has never seen the shows.

Like, you mention that he is cursed and they are like, poor guy, has anyone tried to lift it.

You say that, yeah, it's not even that hard, it even happened by accident once.

They are like, then what's the big deal? Just lift the curse!

And then you have to explain that, no trust me, the curse is good, yes he is doomed to spend eternity in torment and anguish over his past, but it's better for everyone this way. If he has sex (which lifts the curse) then he will turn evil and try to end the world.

Then you have to acknowledge that you know that it's a pretty weird arc, but it kinda makes sense when you watch the show. Meanwhile, the person you are talking to is more confused than ever on what on earth this show is about, and you haven't even gotten to explaining the dimension with nothing but shrimp in it yet.

I did another one that no one was necessarily asking for, but I still wanted to do, this is Vampire Shrimp Cookie

I’ll be honest, I’m not really sure if this is even a ship, or if anyone but me ships it (and maybe @bellatheinkdemon considering they made darklobster comics this morning? But that might have just been because I requested a fankid for this ship and they decided to do more afterwards), but I think it’d be neat. I know in canon they haven’t interacted, but their backstories seem similar and I would really like to see them interact at some point, and see how they’d work off each other. Okay, I don’t think that’s very solid of a reasoning, but I just thought shipping them would be kind of neat, and put them on my list. Then this morning I had a bit of a darklobster kick, so I made this one

So does anyone remember that one time when I went on a bender looking up shrimp and then posting about them? Well okay, I only made one post, but I did still do that. Anyways, so one I particularly liked was the vampire shrimp, and I was considering using one for a darklobster kid, since shrimp and lobster are related, plus they’re big (for shrimp) and rather bulky, and also they apparently give off the impression of being scary, when in reality they really aren’t, which seems to fit Dark Choco’s personality (also they aren’t vampiric, so I’m not sure why they’re called that). So I thought “good enough” and put it as a candidate, and to be honest I just wanted to make this into a Cookie, so yeah

Vampire shrimp:

So I’ll be honest, I definitely put more Lobster into her design than Dark Choco, though I’m not entirely sure how to fix that. I gave her a grayish color because I remembered some vampire shrimp having blue-grayish shells, but I think they were more blue than I remembered. Lobster’s tone probably could have worked fine, but I mean, it makes her look more like a mix. And I gave her black hair to give her some similarities to Dark Choco (as well as me thinking it’d work good with the grey). I also put in some reds like Lobster, though I think it helps with the whole “vampire” part of her name, as well as the fact that she’s supposed to have an at least somewhat crooked mouth that resembles fangs. Though again, vampire shrimp aren’t vampiric. I gave her normal hands instead of claws because vampire shrimp don’t have claws. Also I gave her a little shark plush because she’s supposed to be shy, and I thought her hiding herself behind a toy would sell that, and I made it a shark to match Lobster’s sea aesthetic. Though maybe I should have chosen something different, as it does still lean in to the “more emphasis on Lobster” thing

I’ll be honest, I just sort of made something up for her dress. That’s something I’ve noticed, if I make a character where their torso is largely obscured, I’ll have no clue what to do for the outfit. Ah well

Also I don’t know why I drew her as a child. One thing I wanted to portray is that vampire shrimp are bulky, but I can’t really do that with a young child. Maybe I can draw her again as an adult, because that’s definitely something I wanted to keep, she’s supposed to be large. But for now at this age, she’s very small, which I guess works with her shrimp thing. Also don’t know when I decided to make her a girl, I think I was originally going to make her either a boy or non binary. Ah well

So as for her character, there’s not too much, she’s pretty basic. She’s a very shy young girl, who often hides behind her parents (or in Dark Choco’s case, usually within his capes/cloaks). She’s rather timid and has a hard time opening up to people, but if you get her to open up, she’s a very friendly individual who likes to play with others

I’d also imagine Mocha Ray to be like an aunt to Vampire Shrimp, and someone she loves to play with

Growing up, I don’t imagine her to be a warrior, as she’s very non aggressive and would rather settle things peacefully. Not sure what she’d do though

(I may or may not have just taken her personality from what I read about how vampire shrimp behave, but shh. Also I felt like it fits)

Anyways yeah, not much to say on that end. I know at one point I said part of my issues is that I wasn’t able to flesh out these fankids’ personalities in time, but now I have all the time in the world and am able to come up with very little. Though then again, it could also be the lack of creative juices flowing while I’m at home

But regardless, I hope you like her!
