What's the angle?
@embracing-the-ineffable, @thebluestgreen and I were talking recently and came to the conclusion that there's a lot of handwriting hi jinx going on in this season. One of the first things we see is this note by Maggie.
Tumblr media
Seems pretty normal honestly. Lowercase unless there's a sentence or a proper noun to start. Everything looks like the same hand wrote it. So we know what Maggie's handwriting looks like.
Now I'm going to show you Maggie's and Nina's help signs.
Tumblr media
They're both written in all uppercase. Seemingly we're meant to understand their content is emphasized, or to be read from far away. Notice how on Nina's, all the As are written normally, with the crossbar going left to right, like you would write a normal uppercase A? And the M has that loopy quality that we see in Maggie's note? Okay now look at the sign Maggie is holding.
Tumblr media
There's an EXTREMELY odd uppercase A with a long descender on the right hand side, and the crossbar of the A is actually going the other way, right to left. No one writes like that unless maybe they are left handed AND ALSO starting the symbol at bottom right to top left, like someone who doesn’t use a latin alphabet all that often?
Which makes sense when you consider that the girls actually crossed each other in the frame from earlier when they were waiting. So Maggie wrote Nina’s sign, and Nina wrote Maggie’s sign. Now we know what Nina’s writing looks like.
I say symbol because check out where we’ve seen this exact writing before :
Tumblr media
There's something else odd about the Honolulu Roast board, not just that it appeared in the middle of the scene. It's 100% Nina who wrote it, and there's a character that looks like an A hidden in there the same way it was in the help sign, and also there's a hidden character in the top righthand corner which is definitely not an English letter. Which got us thinking, maybe it's not a letter?
Tumblr media
If you draw an angle symbol on it's side, like you're supposed to, the crossbar would be drawn top to bottom, making it perfect for the "As" we see in previous examples, with the same long descender on the right. Want to see something really wild?
Tumblr media
Different handwriting, but the same right hand descender and backwards crossbar. So the question is: what angle are Nina and the demons trying to communicate, and why keep it so hidden from everyone?

You must face the age of not believing Doubting everything you ever knew Until at last you start believing There's something wonderful in you
Dame Angela Lansbury, who died at her home today in Los Angeles at the age of 96, is perhaps best known today as Jessica Fletcher in the acclaimed TV series Murder, She Wrote and in the Broadway stage plays and musicals in significant parts that Hollywood never gave her. But well before that, the Irish-British transplant to America (she and her family left Britain at the height of Nazi Germany’s bombing campaign of her home nation) made her career as mostly a character actress during the Golden Age of Hollywood. She may not have been a major star billed at the top of marquees and movie posters during her time while contracted to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), but she would come to be a recognizable figure to audiences of multiple generations – whether she might be playing a tough saloon owner with a belter of a singing voice, a schoolteacher just making ends meet, Elvis’ mother (despite a nine-year age difference), princesses and queens, the amoral and scheming wife of a political candidate, an emotionally manipulative mother, or a teapot matriarch.
She stepped onto a movie soundstage for the first time at seventeen years of age, while making Gaslight (1944) for MGM. Because she was still technically a minor, she had to be accompanied by a social worker while working on set. Despite this, director George Cukor and her co-stars (including Ingrid Bergman) treated her as equals, all of them recognizing right away her professionality and acting ability. Perhaps producers and studio executives might not have done the same, saddling her so often with character roles, but Lansbury – by all accounts – extended that same kindness Cukor and Bergman afforded to her to so many others over the decades, leaving a legacy that goes beyond whatever personal disappointments she may have had over the more considerable roles she never got to play.
Her distinction as Hollywood royalty came later in life, as our connections of Hollywood’s Golden Age are almost all gone.
Nine of the films Angela Lansbury appeared in follow (left-right, descending):
Gaslight (1944) – directed by George Cukor; also starring Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotten, and Dame May Whitty
The Harvey Girls (1946) – directed by George Sidney; also starring Judy Garland, John Hodiak, Ray Bolger, Preston Foster, Virginia O’Brien, Kenny Baker, Marjorie Main, Chill Wills, Selena Royle, and Cyd Charisse
The Three Musketeers (1949) – directed by George Sidney; also starring Lana Turner, Gene Kelly, June Allyson, Van Heflin, Frank Morgan, and Vincent Price
The Court Jester (1955) – directed by Melvin Frank and Norman Panama; also starring Danny Kaye, Glynis Johns, Basil Rathbone, and Cecil Parker
The Manchurian Candidate (1962) – directed by John Frankenheimer; also starring Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, and Janet Leigh
Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) – directed by Robert Stevenson and Ward Kimball; also starring David Tomlinson, Roddy McDowall, Sam Jaffe, John Ericson, Cindy O’Callaghan, Ian Weighill, and Roy Snart
Death on the Nile (1978) – directed by John Guillermin; also starring Peter Ustinov, Jane Birkin, Lois Chiles, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, Jon Finch, Olivia Hussey, I.S. Johar, George Kennedy, Simon MacCorkindale, David Niven, Maggie Smith, and Jack Warden
Beauty and the Beast (1991) – directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise; also starring Paige O’Hara, Robby Benson, Richard White, Jerry Orbach, David Ogden Stiers, Rex Everhart, Jesse Corti, and Bradley Pierce
Mary Poppins Returns (2018) – directed by Rob Marshall; also starring Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, Joel Dawson, Julie Walters, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, David Warner, and Dick Van Dyke

Re: your question to my reply on your trxt post - I am watching you watch Black Sails and trying to be sooooooo normal about it because not to put it on too high a pedestal, but it rewired my brain chemistry in all the best ways ✌️ I'm especially glad you're watching it since you loved PJO/Toby Stephens as Poseidon!
OMG WELL AREN'T YOU LUCKY YOU GET TO SEE ME DESCEND INTO MADNESS
Toby Stephens is an actor I wish was introduced to earlier because just in the what...15 minutes or so he's in PJO? The level of acting he brought to the show was unreal. I'm obsessed with actors that can deliver the most convincing microexpressions and give me emotions with only their eyes. They are the actors who are truly top tier. And I haven't seen that level of acting in many actors, much less recently. So seeing him have those little expressions on his face and give me a performance I won't forget, I needed more of him. I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering he is the son of Dame Maggie Smith!
Black Sails is also totally right up my alley. Historical drama? Check. Violent? Check. Lots of conniving and moves and countermoves? Check and check. Well-written characters? You got it. And most of all, writing that doesn't hold the audience's hand? All the checks! I'm almost done with season one, and knowing the trajectory of how most good shows go, it's only up from here.
I've found it harder more recently to watch American TV because it feels very hand-holdy and telling (not showing), so I've resorted to more shows and films made outside Hollywood. With some exceptions. To discover this show that I've clearly overlooked has brought me some hope that maybe Western audiences (specifically USAmericans) are capable of being fed media that isn't spoonfed to them.
Maybe?

Fellow Travelers Rewatch Party | episode 2
Content warning: NSFW, strong language (maybe)
Let’s continue the weekly review / reaction session while watching episode 2 tonight!
First time seeing the title sequence and the composition of different LGBTQ+ and historical photographies as well as original sequences from the show - Hawk hanging Tim’s cross chain over the bedpost - merged in is spectacular. The intro has been composed by Paul Leonard-Morgan and he explains the build-up and musical structure as follows:
„The idea was to have this loop which kept on evolving and descending keys,as Hawk’s life descended into inner turmoil.Tim’s cello sound playing the pizz at the start and the end - I wanted to represent that Tim was the grounding force, keeping the steadiness in the relationship while Hawk’s life descended into chaos. Each character adding a layer to the arpeggios on the top - first the violin, then the piano, then the wind. Sticking to our rule of never resolving. It gets increasingly frenetic until the final reprise played on the cello. Also, it’s written in. Again, so we never settle, just like @MattBomer (Hawk) and Jonathan Bailey’s (Tim) complicated relationship in the show.“ (source: Paul Leonard-Morgan via X / twitter)
It’s incredibly beautiful, well-crafted and the meaning behind feels very palpable in the music, especially with the given explanation! You should check out the Fellow Traveler’s OST:
youtube
We’re in the 80s timeline with Maggie and Hawk meeting in the café!
I still wonder how that came about… Did Tim just tell Maggie to call Hawk? Did they have a discussion about that with Tim pondering whether or not he should go and meet Hawk and Maggie, the protective sister she is, intervening and shushing her brother off in a ‚no way, I’m gonna call and meet this douche who breaks your heart every decade‘ manner?!
Maggie: Although he swears no one else even came close. - Ouch. Tim never found happiness with someone else. That’s truly devastating. However, I’m actually curious to hear a conversation between Maggie and him on that. What did Tim tell her about Hawk and their past relationship? How did he justify his feelings for the man? I crave for more scenes focussing on Tim and his family.
Hawk is part of the Smith family. Leonard is rightfully salty at Hawk, seeing right through his scheme of settling himself a place in his family whilst masterfully playing a false game, while his standing with his own father is standing on wobbly feet.
Tim: Had I know there’d be pictures I would have worn my best tie. - Dawww.
I love seeing Tim and Mary socialising with the key political society and shielding each other. The supportive friendship between them is absolutely precious.
Roy Cohn looking Tim up and down suspiciously and then presenting his mom as his date, what a goblin. At first I thought he’d eye Tim up as a potential ‚interest‘ of McCarthy, but maybe he’s just extra cautious recognizing him from the State Department Bureau and the fact that he always seems to linger around when important meetings are held.
That change of scene from Mary/Tim sweetness to Tim full on blowing Hawk in a doorframe is just  so filthy, sinful and juicy - it nearly threw me off the couch the first time I’ve watched it, such an unexpected switch. Also, damn Tim, clutching the peachy cheeks! (I get it, I get it) Also, it’s Jonathan’s / Tim’s muffled moans while he’s at it, enjoying it just as much as Hawk and edging him on, that makes me feel like a sinner.
Tim figuring out that Mary is a lesbian and Hawk plans to encourage them to see each other, caring about both of them, their safety, because they aren’t bulletproof like he is. It’s his way of protecting the (vulnerable) people he cares for.
Hawk talking about his dreams of buying a villa for himself, living a life where no one is judging. He doesn’t explicitly mention Tim but it makes me think of the villa he buys on Fire Island, which comes as close to his dream as it gets, just under more tragic and depressing circumstances. Tim seems satisfied with every little glimpse he is allowed to have into Hawk’s perfectly guarded ‚inner world‘ and emotions. He doesn’t press further and ask what his own place in this dream of Hawk’s would be.
Them falling asleep together and Hawk waking up to the sight of Tim sleeping peacefully next to him, the sun and lightning in this scene - so beautiful and warming and at peace! That's how every morning for them should be.
Oh no, the neighbour seeing them together. Hawk, you can’t fool him. He’s got his own newspapers in his hand and these were definitely not handed over by a dorky looking man in glasses and a suit.
Marcus introducing us to Langston Hughes and a world where he struggles between racism and homophobia. He’s an outsider in the black community for being gay, which is why he can only handle and focus on one cause… This is far worse than living a fake life in a ‚white people‘ world.
Momma Fuller: Don’t tell me you’ve gotten some poor girl in trouble. Didn’t think so. - Oh, Momma Fuller knows everything. What a lady, ahead of her time. Like, she’s a Gilded Age woman and is more tolerant and accepting than most of society at the time, very fierce, knows what she wants and willing to marry for a wealthy entourage. She also reminds me of Lucy, because I think she indicated as well that she’d marry a man if he’s wealthy and even if he’s ugly (because then she wouldn’t have to try too hard to hold onto him).
Momma Fuller: And he’s had a change of heart.
Hawk: Doesn’t seem likely in the absence of one. - Hawk can cut super sharp, especially when standing up to homophobes and his father. Love it.
Mary’s party is honestly my favorite scene of this episode! The pure joy, the music, the playfulness during the charade game, seeing Tim happy / smiling and dancing with Luis. Mary insisting that Tim shouldn’t mention her relationship with Caroline to Hawk… well, she knows very well that Hawk wouldn’t approve at all, that he’d consider it dangerous, not only for them but also a threat for him. AND Mary might be worried for her job as well, she's his employee after all.
Hawk preferring to stand up for his past actions, talking down to his father’s homophobic bullshit and thus refusing to gain the heritage. Wow. Delicious, superb cinema. Wonderful. Perfect. Love to see it!
Hawk (to Tim): I’m home now. - Remember the echo in episode 8 and hold back your tears till then.
Hawk is the big spoon! Awww. Again, such a beautifully staged scene.
Hawk dictating the love letter, formally addressed to Mary with words actually aimed at Tim - my heart.
Again, Hawk’s attempt to protect both of them, Mary and Tim, with ethically questionable but effective means. Mary does as Hawk predicts - they know each other very well. Also, can we please recognize that Mary and Marcus as well are just as willing to throw people under the bus as Hawk is?
Back in the 80s timeline!
80’s Hawk refusing to go and have fun with the young guy in the gay bar, instead warns him to be more cautious.
When Hawk enters Tim’s apartment and Tim notices who it is… then just traces his lips with his fingers, reminiscent. Also, I just love that Hawk still calls him ‚Skippy‘ (affectionately) and Tim doesn’t protest, although he would have every right to claim that he doesn’t call him by this pet name, a name that arose from their first sexual encounter. But he doesn’t. Because he still loves his Hawk.
Sen. Smith: But someone asks me the other day why one of the most eligible bachelors in town hasn’t married yet and I couldn’t think of an answer. - Here’s the pressure for Hawk to start courting Lucy, to protect is mentor and not be his Achille’s heel.
Hawk (to Lucy): You’ll make a wonderful mother. You’ll teach them to have principles.
Lucy: You always found my principles annoying, silly even.
Hawk: Come on, you know I’m too smart for my own good.
Their whole conversation, looking ahead. Ouch.
The whole Marcus and Frankie scene is so effin’ sweet. The way they talk about their poetry and Frankie opening up on his first drag experience and what that entailed… Such natural chemistry between them. The poem Marcus recites is flows so well with the scenes!
Seeing 80s Tim all overjoyed and happy and smiling when they sit down together for Chinese Takeaway food is such a treasure (His ‚thank you thank you thank you!‘ is so sweet)! I’m pretty sure a great part of his delight must derive from the fact that Hawk is there with him, spending this evening with them, eating together. They NEVER had that, not even in the 70s, Tim and Hawk eating with a family member of either of them.
That’s it for episode 2!

JACOBIN FICTION CONVENTION MEETING 35: THE QUEEN’S FORTUNE (2020)
Tumblr media
1. The Introduction
Well, hello there, Citizens! Neighbors too, since we have a figure who is interesting for both communities. Welcome back to the convention! Please leave weapons by the door cause you will need them later, take your seats and enjoy tea with tricolor cupcakes!
So, Allison Pataki is an author who will definitely become my nemesis in the future, considering her less than stellar work with this particular book (more on that later). Now, I knew from the ever so blunt (but lovely) @maggiec70 that it would be a bad book with about as much accuracy as your average conspiracy theory, but… BOY WAS I UNPREPARED!
The book turned out to be not bad. Not even mediocre. It’s straight up garbage fit only for wiping one’s ass when toilet paper runs out. Don’t believe me? Well, let’s dive deeper into this mess, shall we?
(By the way, I couldn’t find it online for free due to copyright but owners of Audible accounts can purchase the audiobook or you can pay for an ebook.)
2. The Summary
The book tells a story of Napoleon’s first fiancée, one Desirée Clary. She later would become the wife of Marshal Bernadotte and Queen of Sweden, whose descendants rule the country to this day.
Quite a fascinating story, if you ask me! Also, shoutout to @tairin for introducing me to Bernadotte as a historical figure (she is my guide to the Napoleonic era in general too). And to Maggie for bringing this novel to my attention.
Okay, the premise is interesting and extraordinary, isn’t it? But let’s see what the execution is!
3. The Story
Right off the bat, the story reeks of multiple inaccuracies (in both Frev and Napoleonic departments) worse than roadkill in summer heat. Inaccuracies that range from details (such as getting the year of convents closing wrong) to things that could’ve been avoided with one google search (such as Code Napoleon’s date or the timeline of Joseph’s rule of Naples). Also the usual Thermidorian bullshit with evil Robespierre and MODERATE THERMIDORIANS (because a group that includes war criminals is DEFINITELY MORE MODERATE THAN ROBESPIERRE AND CO, AMIRITE?!)
I know I usually don’t review media based on accuracy, but anyone with any knowledge about the topic (like me) risks getting a severe case of a broken brain from everything wrong in the book. This ended up hurting my immersion into the story because I had the urge to scream at my screen the entire time.
Another thing that hurts the narrative is the length. Personally, I found the story really overstayed its welcome and should’ve ended sooner, like after Desirée becomes Queen. But no, it drags on afterwards and the last chapters are basically filler, even more so than the rest of the book (which is a giant bore). The pacing just drags on like an old horse in slow mo.
(The story begins in 1789 and ends in 1860, for a reference.)
Last but not least, there is a very unnecessary and not accurate at all sex scene un the beginning of the book. Not only is that scene completely unnecessary for the story, but it also completely breaks suspension of disbelief and just makes the characters come off as modern cosplayers, not the people they’re supposed to be.
(For those in the back: DESIRÉE NEVER FUCKED NAPOLEON!!)
Okay, moving on!
4. The Characters
Bland. Most of them are blander than the BRAT diet.
Desirée Clary is the worst offender when it comes to characters feeling too modern, since the book is told from her perspective. She’s also a flat character and a bit too omnipresent when it comes to being at important events, even before her marriage to Bernadotte. We also don’t learn much about her as a person so there’s no reason to sympathize with her. Personally, I just didn’t care about her. She’s supposed to be someone who becomes a grown strong person throughout the story but we don’t see much character development to reflect this.
Napoleon Bonaparte is a bit more complex but that bar is low anyway. He definitely has his moments when he’s a jerk but can be a romantic. Also he kisses Desirée without her consent in the book during a game similar to Hide and Seek. Yeah, I wish I was kidding but he’s basically sexually assaulted her in that scene. Other than that, not much to see here either.
Josephine Bonaparte is more complex but still bland and almost saintly at times. Her flaws are severely downplayed or omitted.
The Bonaparte sisters are all catty cunts outright compared to the Furies in the book. Letizia suffers the same fate.
Joseph Bonaparte is a loyal brother and a nice man.
Julie is the doting big sister.
Bernadotte is a loving husband and an ardent Jacobin who has “Death to Kings” tattooed on his chest in the book. Yeah, that old chestnut that is actually nothing more than a myth.
And so on. It’s like a show with cardboard cutouts in lieu of a story with good characters.
5. The Setting
Some descriptions are quite vivid, especially when it comes to Malmaison, but that’s about the only good thing I can say about this book.
6. The Writing
Hoo boy… Remember how I said that the characters feel like cosplayers from modern times? Well, Desirée (in the book) uses gems like “I rooted for her”. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure a bourgeois woman from that time wouldn’t know such words.
The dialogue in the book is mediocre due to the blandness of the characters and Pataki probably not giving two shits about delivering a good book, despite the fact that she is from a very rich and influential family and could’ve easily obtained access to all the research.
But hey, what do I know?
7. The Conclusion
Don’t read this book. Really, just don’t waste your time. I’m disappointed that the author took a good concept for a novel, wiped her ass with it and served the results in novel form.
I have my issues with that 1954 movie about Desirée, but, compared to THIS, that movie is a flawless masterpiece and at least there I felt some sort of way about Desirée as a character. Here, on the other hand, I just don’t give a shit, which is about the worst thing an author can achieve.
Anyway, to fit the theme of an extraordinary person the author was going for, here’s the promised song.
I hope you enjoyed the review and the song. Thank you for joining me today at the Jacobin Fiction Convention and stay tuned for future reviews!
Love,
- Citizen Green Pixel

Same paradox anon again
So my brain is suddenly fired up with theories and idk what else to do with them, but
Do we ever see any evidence of the different peoples of hyrule mixing? I know gerudo and hylians do because of botw/totk, and zora princesses seem to have a fondness for link, so I'm gonna extrapolate that it's possible on that end too. And I believe gorons just spawn from rocks but that's not important here.
As for how zora and rito can exist alongside each other, it is possible that a subset of the zora became rito, but there was also a population that remained zora? And the whole world flooded for a hot second there so they've just been chilling in the ocean somewhere unseen.
And maybe the ones that became the rito eventually mixed with hylians before? Because the rito pre acquiring the feather and getting full wings don't look much like zora, but do look a whole lot like hylians
Mixed instances in Hyrule!
Zora and Hylians: Namely Ruto and Mipha. Given the fact that no one really batted an eye in-world, we can assume they're compatible to some degree (though Zora lay eggs, so that's a whole different discussion). There's also whatever's going on with Finley in BotW.
Gerudo and Hylians: Canonically how Gerudo have descendants, since the Gerudo's inception. Can be seen in multiple pairings in BotW/TotK.
Sheikah and Hylians: Robbie is a Sheikah, but Jerrin, his wife, is a Hylian, and Granté (now Grantéson) is their child. Also Rola from Kakariko (runs the arrow shop) is confirmed in TotK to be from Lurelin.
Gorons and Hylians: Not explicitly stated, but Rosso from ALBW has Goron-like traits, wears a Goron emblem, and is referred to in the files as a Goron, which has led to speculation.
Humans and Hylians: Not explicitly stated, but Mila and Maggie have Hylian ears despite almost all of Wind Waker having rounded. Their fathers also have pointed ears, so a case could be made for them not being human in heritage, but it's plausible that their mothers were human. Humans also appear in Twilight Princess, where Ordon Village residents have round ears, and both of the Oracles games according to characters' art.

IDW Sonic issue 57 loose thoughts...
Tumblr media
Lanolin finally gets to be a character, yippee!!
For those that don't know, Lanolin was first a background character designed by Adam Bryce Thomas for the second issue! Adam Bryce Thomas got attached to the design and fit her into more backgrounds, and later so did other artists! Seeing how Lanolin already had a character sheet long before her proper introduction, a name, and a general acceptance by the other artists (Evan Stanley drew her for one of her winter outfit sets one year) I wonder if her proper introduction got pushed back. I believe Sega asked some for some characters to have their introductions pushed back, but I can't think any evidence right now so I could be misremembering! Lanolin also got a bit of a redesign, now with a cool bell styled wispon to replace her cowbell, a curly tail, and a new magenta wisp friend named Maggie. Compare her old model sheet to the photo above!
Tumblr media
Bonus trivia: Lanolin is a type wax sheep secrete that protects their wool. It's used by us in almost everything that uses wax, but mainly moisturizers!
Casual readers not investing in the background process may be surprised at just how often Lanolin shows up before this issue!
Lanolin as a character in this issue, kinda seems like a substitute for Sally Acorn. She's kind of a generic animal, has no real special skills or abilities (besides her cool bell wispon), but despite that has a rounded skill set (maybe a reference to many applications of lanolin wax?), and seems to excel at leading field work. Lanolin is to Sally Acorn as Surge is to Scourge. I know the writers are trying very hard to bring the freedom fighters back, but I'm not sure it's going to happen at this point. But I like the new characters and so far Surge has been proven to be very much more than just a Scourge clone.
I think I could see Lanolin and Jewel being co-directors like how Amy and Knuckles were in the resistance. Jewel does the paperwork, logistics, and humanitarian efforts and Lanolin leads the proactive, offensive, field efforts.
Okay enough about Lanolin, the other thing I wanted to talk about is the Eggperial city, which in this issue is revealed to be using the same tech as Eggman's vr tower in Test Run. I always though Test Run was one of the weaker arcs and felt like it had no real purpose or payoff (besides the Belle side stuff) but now it does! I'll have to revisit that arc now with a different perspective.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also I don't know how I didn't pick up on this in Test Run but the portals Eggman is using is probably the warp topaz! Tails and him supercharged it during the Metal Virus and now it seems Eggman's found it and is supercharging it again (or maybe a convincing fake?) Having another magic rock might make the magic rock department a little bloated but I like the warp topaz, and not just because I am God's chosen Starline warrior. It will be neat to find out exactly how he is using it in the coming issues!
Adam Bryce Thomas and Matt Herms also did a wonderful job on the interior artwork as usually. I particularly like the page were Lanolin and Tangle descend into the mine, excellent paneling and excellent use of space!
My favorite cover this issue was cover A by Min Ho Kim, but unfortunately my local comic book store did not have it! Oh well! Until Next Month!!

today i decided to comment on some popular bttf theories or questions asked. just to add my 2 cents.
why are doc and marty friends?? how the hell did they meet?!
SHUT UUPP why shouldn't they be friends? i don't see the issue and never have seen one. why can't a 17 year old boy be friends with a disgraced nuclear physicist? you don't have to question how they met. the movie establishes them as friENDS in the first five goddamn minutes, marty enters the lab without even knocking and obviously has access to a key. i like to think that the whole POINT of strickland telling marty that doc is a nutcase is to show the audience that he ISN'T a nutcase and, in fact, a nice guy and willing to do anything to help marty get home. sure, the whole plutonium and having the car drive towards them is. a bit questionable BUT it's also obvious that marty trusts doc. doc is willing to lay down his life for marty and marty is willing to do anything to save him. if that isn't true friendship, i don't know what is. there, are you happy now, you doubters?
marty dies multiple times in bttf 2
i'm kinda split on this one tbh. i quite enjoy the idea of doc being the one who has to save marty after marty saves him in part 1 & 3, with the same attitude of "i don't care what happens to the universe i just want to keep my bff alive". it makes sense, too. on the other hand, i also like the thought of doc either being there by coincidence or instinctively knowing marty was in danger. because he has dad instincts ok
marty's parents/george knew he was a time traveler
hmmm. i don't know about lorraine, but i can see that being the case for george. not only was george the first one to meet marty in 1955, him telling him his name without george having introduced himself and so on, there also was this whole darth vader scene, the "i didn't know you did anything creative", the way marty clearly called him "dad" lmao and overall marty's insistence to get george to ask lorraine out. george might not know for sure, but i can see him having developed a theory like that. also because he basically based his first novel on the whole darth vader thing.
the idea of the secret eventually being revealed at a later point and lorraine being like "????" while george goes "ah yes, i suspected that" is also funny so
doc brown kills lone pine marty
guys please why can't we keep these movies as lighthearted as possible. why can't this just be a normal time loop.
personally, i have always thought that normal marty and lone pine marty just switched timelines. tp marty went to 1955, set up his parents after ruining their first meeting, and got back to 1985. lp marty went back to 1955, didn't fuck around with his family history because he assumed that it was the whole calvin klein thing, thus his parents met the normal way and boom, twin pines timeline. or something like that.
i'm NOT liking the idea of doc ever harming any kind of marty thank you
doc brown is suicidal
no.
in all seriousness, i see where people are coming from. but doc is such an excited, enthusiastic character and i don't. no. just no. he wants to be a good person, to accomplish something in this world. he wouldn't just give up like this.
this theory just makes me sad
the delorean is sentient and stalls in just the right moments to prevent paradoxes
what a funny way to explain that deloreans were, in tom wilson's words, a piece of garbage
why does maggie mcfly look like lorraine when that's george's side of family?
bob gale explained that by saying that mcfly men are naturally attracted to women who look like lea thompson.
trixie and jennifer: *offended*
seriously? i don't fucking know. she just looks like her. coincidence. maybe she was from lorraine's family line, then one of her kids or siblings if she had any married someone else, and the families split up until george and lorraine met, meaning that stella and sam are maggie's descendants/from her family line. doesn't that make more sense
THATS IT FOR NOW i may reblog and add some more but for now enjoy my opinion

The Fog (2005)
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, only two kinds of movies seem to get remade: great movies with a built-in audience that are almost guaranteed to disappoint viewers, and fan-favorite horror movies. Of all the films you could remake, I don’t know why anyone chose John Carpenter’s The Fog. Even in 1980, it was basic and didn't leave much of an impression. In 2005? It’s so unimaginative it fails to justify its own existence.
As the residents of Antonio Island prepare for their town’s centennial, artifacts from the Elizabeth Dane begin washing up on the beach. Soon, a mysterious fog rolls in. Within roam vengeful spirits tied to a dark secret.
The film basically gives away the reason for the ghosts in the opening scene but even if it didn’t, you’d guess it immediately. The Fog is so familiar. You swear you’ve seen this tale somewhere before. More than likely, it was in an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark, around a campfire or in a children’s collection of spooky stories. It’s so generic you’re shocked by the ending. Was that it? No twists? No new angles? Nothing? Well, that’s not entirely true. There is a crazy reveal at the last minute but it makes no sense, whatsoever. In a way, it’s the ultimate “Gotcha!” because no one could ever foresee it. I don’t mean that in a good way. I realize I’ve just been criticizing this movie for doing nothing new and now I’m criticizing it for making the “interesting” choice to mix two seemingly contradicting versions of the afterlife but it isn’t enough for something to be unexpected; it also has to have some sort of logic to it.
I suppose we should talk about the film’s characters. They’re all descendants of the four founding fathers (though that seems impossible considering that opening flashback…), which should make the reason for the specters coming back even more obvious. Nick (Tom Welling) is surprised when his former girlfriend, Elizabeth (Maggie Grace), returns to Antonio Island after being away for six months. Her return isn’t tied to the fog. Something else has drawn her back. How "peculiar". She and Nick are… in love? Not really. They’re just together. We learn that in her absence, Nick and local radio personality Stevie (Selma Blair) were an item but nothing comes from it. In fact, I don’t think Stevie and Elizabeth do more than acknowledge each other during the whole film. Anyway, they’re the people we follow as the town gets torn apart by spooks hidden in the mist. You don’t care about them or about anyone put in danger. Driving to work with low visibility is scarier than The Fog.
The best thing about this effort by director Rupert Wainwright (whose well-known film might be Blank Check, not exactly an exciting filmmaking career) is the makeup effects. I wish I had more positive things to say, as even these raise more questions with no answers when we see them in modern day.
This picture is instantly forgettable. The “unrated” cut is so mild and dull it makes you wonder what the poor chumps who saw this in theaters did to stay awake. What’s frustrating is that John Carpenter’s The Fog isn’t particularly jaw-dropping either. It’s fine but from someone who kicked off the slasher genre, you expect something grandiose, and it isn’t. Remaking it was a golden opportunity to try something different. Apparently, “trying” was too much to ask. (Unrated version on DVD, April 26, 2022)

good omens s2e2 thoughts
I want to scream about every episode of good omens as I watch it slowly, I wish I had a community around it but I don’t wanna poke around tumblr or anywhere for fear of spoilers and I like to savor shit (“you go too fast for me binge watchers!!”).
So hear ol void buddy take my screaming!!
Idk if I’ve ever made so many noises at a screen! I have a lot invested into this world to the point where everything is imbued with Benefit Of The Doubt Goodness, like it’s my child. I guess that’s what being a fan is like but also being a fan can mean being extremely disappointed so there’s that
I’m not disappointed I’m screaming! Okay episode 2. I love the buddy holly song and the gasp I made when Gabriel sings it. I loooove the little gay dorky conductor motion Aziraphale makes before singing it to people, I am obsessed with it, I’m chewing the walls.
Job!!!! I just read a fanfic that partially takes place during the book of Job, I haven’t dived HARD into the world of GO fanfic but I’ve read enough that take place in biblical times that make me go “huh wow the bible is this real thing full of very old and pervasive myths, oooo there were real people wandering the desert back in the day,” sense-of-awe type vibes. And then the show is doing that!!!!
I love a show that wrestles with this very big question that feels like it is playing out for me on some ancestral level, as a person (like many of us) descended from people who believed in God: “HOW THE FUCK COULD YOU EXIST AND BE SO CRUEL, HOW COULD I BELIEVE, FUCK YOU GOD FUCK YOU!!” lol maybe that’s not entirely a question. Hard not to giggle at it a little but it’s also like a pretty big thing to wrestle with?? (I’ll die on this hill but see: thor love and thunder - dumb little box office stories that actually are wrestling with that if you choose to go there)
Bible fanfic!!! It makes something in me itch in a good, I think, way
What else. Brain all over. There’s Jim ordering the books by the first letter of the first word, which is like the damn Spotify playlists that spelled out those words. GOD DAMMIT!!! Brain tickles!!! What does it meeaaaannn?? Should I start looking for acrostics everywhere, like in that weird headline about the ducks held by that rando in the pub who is going to be important prob?? What does it mean when you open your life to the unhingedness and magic of little synchronicities like that, of things vibrating with hidden meaning???
The angels not recognizing Gabriel is sooo good - me expecting a more typical “ha ha he tries to hide Gabriel, shenanigans ensue” - nope, he just answers the door, the angels don’t know him, Aziraphale (like us) is like “….okay what the fuck???” [unless it’s the miracle that’s hiding him, that’s possible]
There is something with identity and who are you if your appearance changes but you stay the same (the goats, Job’s children); who are you if your appearance stays the same but you are fundamentally different inside and/or nobody recognizes you and/or you have to pretend to be someone else (Gabriel/Jim, Job’s kids when they come back) (and then there’s Maggie and Nina actually being entirely new characters with the same face!) (and! on the opposite side, Beelzebub having a new face and the story is like “eh, new face, same guy”) - what is identity, what is a self??
And then identity is a theme for Aziraphale too right!! At the end of ep. 2 he’s like “what am I???”, it’s a whole existential crisis, (you feel for him so hard, because these actors are so fucking good??). He’s like I can’t possibly be an angel because I did these non-angelic, demonic things… and Crowley is like “🤷 you can still be an angel, more or less”…….. if you appear to be an angel then nobody has to know…… and what, really, is the difference
(“if it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck”... and Crowley’s thing with ducks!)
Holy shit and that flows into undertones of things being a metaphor for being closeted?? Would love to untangle it more but that scene where Aziraphale eats the meat - 1) was SOOOOO fanficky (in the best way!!), I mean I’m puking, (Book of Job fanfic! Just an intimate encounter in the space between scenes); 2) was very easily some kind of stand in for, you know, temptations of the flesh, gay sex type thing. (I mean… did he have to eat the meat like that… did Crowley have to watch him like that... I mean… come on. Amazing.) (incidentally I think Michael sheen is playing Aziraphale even gayer this season mannerisms-wise and I just love it a lot!!) - so anyway, Aziraphale and Crowley’s whole thing being “we love each other, we know we love each other, but NO ONE CAN KNOW how much we love each other”… even to the point of hiding it from ourselves, lying to ourselves (cough Aziraphale)… that theme just feels so present!
Being closeted… you have this experience that is so pleasurable and full of love and can’t possibly be wrong (eating meat, befriending a demon)... and yet the highest powers are telling you it’s wrong, god says it’s wrong, that’s your entire identity, so who are you?? You just have to pretend… oh man it’s so sad pals!!!
I’m obsessed with this identity thing. I wonder if it’ll be important to the plot. Back to episode 1, Az & Jim: “I know someone who looks like you” “that’s probably me then! I think that’s one of the ways you can tell” - ha ha funny joke cute line, except wait, it is thematically resonating throughout everything, oops!!
ALSO getting caught in the rain and taking refuge under an awning and falling in love = it raining outside the garden of eden and Crowley shelters under Aziraphale’s wing…. GOD FUCKING DAMN IT
Okay those are some of my long chaotic thoughts, thanks for listening void!!!

Hellowwww, I was re-reading some of your old posts to stave of the boredom and I realised you had an OC: Meghan, a descendant of Gravity, that I completely forgot about shjdjdjsksksksks. So any fun facts about her? Is Meghan going to get focus, even if it's just one chapter, or is she only going to be mentioned? Also did she and Kai date or is is just pining for one another? Also, sidenote, I reread the part where Kai threw himself off the boat and soooo many emotions hbndsjknnsddjsds why are you such a good writer, getting emotions from me hekddskds anyway happy Friday :D
So any fun facts about her?: She really only exists because I thought it was silly that the blonde cheerleader (Maggie) had a name but the brunette didn't, so I gave her one and then she grew a personality, as you do. She likes pumpkin spice lattes, is an incredible gymnast (hence the seriousness about cheerleading), and dreams of pursuing an acting career! And being a Descendant of Gravity gives her an affinity that both makes her "attractive" as a person, and also better at controlling her movements while weightless (again, that's the gymnast thing. But imagine being an actress that can do your own stunts *-*)9 )
Is Meghan going to get focus, even if it's just one chapter, or is she only going to be mentioned?: I don't really have plans to put any huge focus on her (certainly not to the extent of Jesse and Olivia, and probably not even as much as Miranda, Harleigh, and Sunni), but she does comes in handy as a supportive character when needed! ....honestly, she's probably going to have a bigger role in the Royal!Legacy au than she does the main story if we're being truthful fghfdggdsd (there's still plenty of time to cook something up though)
Also did she and Kai date or is is just pining for one another? They dated 😏😏😏😏😏😏 not for very long nor very seriously, but they did have a thing! (Firefallshipping, if you want a name~) Nowadays they are still friends, though the Chad thing does keep kind of getting in the way... (but she also teases Kai relentlessly and jokingly makes a big deal about being his ex once Skylor comes into the picture skhgdjgskdjskak)
I reread the part where Kai threw himself off the boat and soooo many emotions hbndsjknnsddjsds why are you such a good writer?: Thank you very much!!! One of my favorite scenes, even though it felt like it took an eternity to write T-T)9 ...though I'm sure I can top it with some of the stuff I have planned for Lloyd, mwahahahaha

After the Supernova
Well, I said I wanted to make it, so here it is. My post-Supernova pre-epilogue fic. I am pantsing this, even though most other stuff I write is HEAVILY outlined, but here we are. I just have to get these ideas out there.
Right now, there are some plot points that I know for certain are going to play out. Oscar, Ruby, and Danna forgive Nova. Nova and Magpie meet. The Council hardcore addresses concerns about the way they've been running things. Nova works on getting former villains second chances/fair trials/etc. I also can't write this fic without Nova/Adrian and Ruby/Oscar and Danna/Narcissa fluff/shenanigans/Team Sketch fun, so that will be a thing.
Winston Pratt is also alive for this fic! I have a lot of feelings about character deaths in books and character resurrections in fic, but in this case, I really want Nova to have one single person who maybe gets it. To me it's more interesting and meaningful for Nova to figure out if she actually was, and still wants to be, Winston's friend, than for her to grieve his death.
However Callum is super dead because I think it's more interesting and meaningful for Nova to grieve him (despite how much I absolutely adore Callum he's one of my favorite characters). Plus, I think it will bring Nova and Maggie together.
And, with that out of the way, the fic on Ao3!
After the Supernova
And an excerpt below the cut:
After taking a few more minutes to catch their breath, Nova, Adrian, Max, Hugh, and Simon climbed down the steps, slowly, off the roof of the cathedral.
Hugh and Simon had their arms around Max as they walked, bracketing him on either side and half carrying him down the steps. Adrian walked just behind them, but stopped, and though he didn’t quite look back, Nova thought he was waiting for her.
She stumbled across the ruined roof, struggling to keep her balance as she carried Ace’s helmet under one arm; they couldn’t just leave it on the roof. When she reached Adrian, he took her one hand, and reached as if to take the helmet from her with the other, but paused. Nova looked down, first at their intertwined hands, then at the helmet and it’s dark, empty eyes.
“I uh, could carry it for you. For now. I wasn’t—“
“I know,” she said, and passed it gently to him. “Thanks.” She wasn’t sure she wanted to hold onto it just then. She had sacrificed so much to get that helmet. To get it back to Ace. So many people had been hurt. So many people had been killed. And she didn’t want to unpack all of that just yet. So she held onto Adrian, willed her legs to work for just a little longer, and descended to the courtyard.
By the time they reached the crowd below, prodigy healers were setting up tents and stretchers. Oscar and Danna were already sitting on two of them, though they thankfully seemed unharmed despite their earlier encounter with Phobia.
A swarm of healers had already descended on Max, Captain Chromium, and the Dread Warden. Max clearly had a broken leg, but what other injuries he had sustained, Nova couldn’t tell. Simon looked tired, but fine, and Hugh Everhart already seemed to have gotten his full strength back. After Max was whisked away, the two of them actually kissed. As they stood in each other’s arms, smiling and talking, Nova realized that in all the time she had seen the two of them together, she had never seen them kiss.
She knew that just a month ago, she would have looked on this scene in outrage. Ace’s broken body somewhere behind them. The council seemingly unscathed, with their powers restored and their position as leaders of the city intact. Their families whole and happy.
But something had changed. It had been changing for a while, thanks to Adrian. Adrian and Max. Callum, great skies, Callum. Ruby, Oscar, and even Danna. It changed at Cragmoor, as she sat there for days, alone and silent, thinking of the future, should she ever escape. It changed when she saw Ace Anarchy, Uncle Ace, in the arena, trying to wipe out every single Renegade. And that traitorous thing inside her that had been changing, that had, at least according to Callum, been there the whole time, had irreparably snapped and broken on the roof. Hugh Everhart asking, yelling, “Does she know? Does she know you killed her family?” Ace’s cold, emotionless reply.
So as she looked now at this safe, unbroken family, the triumphant Renegades, she was shocked to feel…relief? She could almost call it happiness but for the roiling in her stomach.
Another group of prodigy healers took Adrian to a tent and started on Nova, as well. Adrian shot her one last, “We’ll talk after this,” before passing the helmet off to his dads while the healers began unwrapping the bandages on his arms.
“Insomnia?” asked an older gray-haired healer, guiding her to an empty tent, “Are you injured?”
She grunted in reply, hauling herself onto the stretcher without even thinking to argue. It felt wrong to accept this help from the Renegades after everything she’d done. But if she didn’t get off her feet soon, she was certain her legs would give out.

ik they arent even in the trailer and their story is done but im kinda bummed out thatin the good omens tag basically nobody is ever talking about the them or the human characters anymore like they make up most of the book and half the show but always get the side lines in fandom content :/ like ive never seen an anathema focused piece of anything shes always like crowleys bestie or something nobody cares to explore a female character deeper than is shown in canon like raphael doesnt exist in canon and yet had more people explore his intricacies
I’m guilty of this too, and I think aside from regular fandom tendency to focus on a ship and let that be all that matters, A/C’s story is so interesting and unique that it outshines the others.
But I love Anathema! I really like her storyline of following something for her whole life because she was told she has to, and having to navigate not having that guide anymore—after choosing not to have it. I wish we got to see how she deals with going about life without knowing what comes next, I can see it being a great source of stress for her. And it would’ve been neat to see it paralleled with Aziraphale going through something very similar, now that he’s abandoned his trust in Heaven. I saw a post a while ago talking about how both human couples were mirrors of A/C—Newt asks questions of Anathema’s unwavering faith and helps her to leave it behind, just like Crowley does for Aziraphale. Shadwell ends up with somebody he’s supposed to believe is an embodiment of evil and sees he was wrong about her, just like Aziraphale does with Crowley. That was really interesting to see and I have a feeling that season 2 will do the same thing with Maggie and Nina (of course I hope they’re more than just mirrors of the male characters).
But as far as fandom goes, I have to admit that I understand wanting to focus on A/C since they’re the most interesting. It does annoy me though, that Anathema often falls victim to the typical fandom treatment of female characters, where they only exist to mother the male characters. In fan fiction she tends to be the voice of reason and the “smartest one in the room”, which seems great because yay a woman is smarter than the men…until you realise she’s only “the smartest one in the room” because people can’t imagine a woman being silly and fun, only responsible and maternal. I think so much more could be done to explore her whole conspiracy theory thing.
As far as the trend of her being Crowley’s bestie, I think it’s cute, but it feels like people reduce her to being a “goth bestie” and don’t really pay attention to her interests. I feel like she’d really get along with Aziraphale and they’d bond over interest in/knowledge of books of prophecy. I’m sure Aziraphale would be absolutely fascinated to hear from an actual descendant of Agnes Nutter, and despite having left the descendant lifestyle behind I’m sure Anathema would be eager to share her history with somebody who’s knowledgeable and interested. Like imagine you dedicate your whole life to following in the footsteps of a historical figure that not many people know about except prophecy enthusiasts. And then you meet the enthusiast of all time. That would be exciting!
And, y’know, I’m sure she’d be more fond of Aziraphale over Crowley, considering A’s the one who healed her and treated her kindly while C didn’t care that he’d hit her with his car and instead focused on un-denting said car…
That being said, I’ve found that a lot of content with her being friends with the husbands, especially Crowley, ends up treating her like set dressing. I’d make a feminist analysis of this, but tbh I notice it with all the human characters, so I don’t think it’s specific to Anathema because she’s female. It’s possible it happens to her more though because of it.
Anyways. I agree it’s sad that the other characters don’t get much attention! They’re great, especially Anathema and Pepper who are my favourites. But like I said, I get it, when they’re up against the competition that is ineffable husbands.

A-Z Fandom Asks: N, P, R? (that wasn't planned, just. happy accident?) please and thank you!
A -> Z FANDOM ASKS.
N - Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).
my number one is r/v obviously <3 i do actually feel kind of spoiled with the shippy stuff ive found in some old blogs though, i tend to adopt the rarest of rarepairs so i'm not complaining. but more is always better! and i'm steadily converting people to the cause 🏴‍☠️
generally speaking i think the pre barnabas episodes could always use more love. it's quite different tonally to later on and I can understand why folks might skip it for those reasons, but I fervently protest the idea that they're boring ! I'm biased of course because my faves are the 1966'ers, but there's so much delicious character work going on, and I think ... you need the rotted b&w gothic foundation for the technicolor house of horrors built on top of it, if that makes sense. i also think barnabas is kinda :/ it should be pre and post laura collins if we're all being honest with ourselves here.
hmmm. possibly a symptom of like, only being here / a tiny bit on twitter and not on like, actual forums, but i would love to see more long ass ds metas. love to read the insanely smart things b.lack s.ails people (and p.otc!) post on the reg. need that about haunted maine ppl
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
okay well you can guess where i'm going to go with this west indies piracy au go
The Collinses are descended from merchant wealth in England and currently control a small port city in the Bahamas. the family's connections to the Marquess of Winchester manages to land Roger an appointment as governor, although everyone knows the title is only a formality: his sister runs everything, including Roger. once prosperous, a combination of over-fishing, hurricanes, and an earthquake twenty years past has left the town desolate, and the sand beneath their feet liquefied. rather than abandon what she has built, Elizabeth is determined to hold on, but without any support from England for what they feel has no hope to turn profitable, the family turns to investing in forced trade.
enter Burke Devlin, a privateer employed under a letter of marque signed and sealed by Roger Collins. Devlin is the best, most profitable, and most infamous of their captains, often dining with them at their table and a close friend of the governor. For a while they enjoy mutual prosperity with Spain's wealth, and pirate labor. But the world is growing more respectable around them, and what was once the fringes of civility is gradually becoming its center. The way to survive is no longer with the pirates. When Burke is captured and tried for piracy, his benefactors turn their back on him: he is sacrificed, essentially, as a figurehead for the port and governor's respectability (vaguely à la Kidd). Even his wife sends written testimony against him, and remarries before her husband officially swings, to his former friend and sponsor, Roger.
Burke manages to escape before his hanging, and turns to piracy in the Mediterranean – after ten years, in 1698, he comes back to raid the Collins shipping fleet, with the eventual goal not of razing Collinsport to the ground, but of installing himself as governor there. One of the ships he captures carries a special passenger – the new governess, sent for from England – and he personally delivers her to their doorstep, but not before she can witness how different Captain Devlin is from the terrifying stories about him and his crew.
the governess also brings news from England: William III has passed a new law against the pirates in the West Indies. any person to aid and assist, or maintain, procure, command, counsel, or advise the pirates, are condemned to the same loss of property and life as the pirates themselves.
meet also:
maggie evans, the no-nonsense tavern wench, and her sweetheart, the honest merchant sailor joe haskell that hates pirates and everything they stand for
carolyn stoddard, who has a copy of Exquemelin in both French and English and has memorized every word, and is violently jealous of vicki for dining with a scary pirate captain. she'd like nothing better than to be kidnapped out of the governor's mansion. her cousin david loves the stables and knows everything about horses ... including how best to spook them.
sam evans, former court painter, now art forger
julia hoffman, naturalist (and other sciences as required)
bill malloy, who oversees the merchant fleet and the warehouses, and carries carolyn home from the docks or the tavern by the scruff of her neck, if he has to.
laura collins, sent away to bedlam for hysteria, managed to come back, and is now setting boats on fire as a hobby
the blairs, hailing from massachusetts: james, a well-respected lawyer eventually revealed to be working with devlin, and his cousins, nicholas and cassandra, political and religious exiles who spent some time in maritinique, where they both adopted quimbois practices.
jason macguire, irish smuggler, and willie loomis, former indentured servant working out his sentence in america. they have a run in with cousin barnabas, who's been making his questionable fortune in the east indies rather than the west, and who definitely does not do any cannibalism.
R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?
ROGER AND JULIA. in other places, eleanor and flint >>>> also elizabeth and barbossa. i feel like this is forming a pattern of some kind hang on
