Looking back, Severa can't tell whether this is a clever ruse, or if this is just coincidence, that her first five minutes at the beach would have her soaked and missing both sandals.

She can remember the good times, the dry times, having just knocked Inigo on his ass and mocking him in return. Only to have two strong arms wrap around the short girl from behind. She's raised above the ground, and immediately yelps.

"Hey now!? Who do you think you are?! Put me down this instance?!" She howls, legs kicking as her arms are restrained.

This is hell.

Immediately. Immediately, the culprit decides to rush them both into the water, before she finds herself submerged.

Bubbles of air burst from her nose, face scrunched up, braced for the impact she just endured. Only being held under water for a few seconds, she's let up, taking a deep breath. Finally let go, she turns around, only to see Lucina as the culprit. Face growing darker, she reaches to fix the strap of her swimsuit.

"Jerk..." she comments, stepping a little closer as she looks over her shoulder. "I thought you were some weirdo! Gimme a little warning next time, won't you?"

He isn't the type to let you bend over to pick something up in peace.

As soon as he sees your upper body go down, your ass perched perfectly in the air, he cant help but appear behind you all of a sudden. Hand reeled back, and bottom lip pulled between his teeth.

Just when you noticed the devious presence behind you, a loud slap echoed from your right cheek and you fall forward from the impact.

The recoil traveled throughout your entire leg, and he couldn't feel more proud of himself in that moment.

"Ow!" You winced, looking back to see a smug look on his face "Did you have to do it that hard?"

"Listen sweetheart" he chuckled, before bending down to place you over his shoulder "If you're gonna wear that around the house you can't expect me not to touch"

"That was not just a touch" you whined, still feeling the harsh sting your behind has been granted with.

"Awww, then let me rub it better yeah?"

I remember watching my mom soak her feet.

She’d sigh and wince every so often as she massaged them and rubbed pumice stones over them.

Her feet were always so rough. Cracked and calloused. From what, I wasn’t sure.

But her nails were always painted.

As I got older, I’d poke fun at her.

Always commenting on her hard, cracked skin as I’d watch her spend hours soaking, exfoliating, and scrubbing- trying to soften them.

And always painting her toes.

“It’s okay, one day yours will be like this too” she’d say without looking up.

I’m thinking about this as I’m sitting on the edge of my tub.

Filling it with hot water.

Salt.

Oils and clays.

The sound of my daughter bouncing around the bathroom playing, watching me as I scrub the bottom of my feet with pumice stones.

Sighing and wincing every so often as I go.

Women, and especially mothers, are on their feet from the moment they wake up til they go to bed.

Always on the run.

Always on the go.

Allowing their self care and rest to be put on the back burner.

We carry our stress in our feet, and it shows.

I shake my head and can’t help but chuckle to myself,

at least I always have my toes painted.
