My take on this, under the cut because I wrote more than intended

- Hange, Child of Hephaestus: because, yeah, it's Hange. They are curious, they like building stuff. Plus I can totally see Hange with fire powers.

- Levi, Child of Hades: because Levi is definitely a child of one of the Big Three, he's special, he's powerful. And he reminds me of Nico, all brooding but so soft on the inside and full of trauma. Give these boys a hug. Oh and the fact that Levi's from the underground just really fits.

- Eren, Child of Poseidon: I know, I know, Eren being Eren would probably be a Child of Ares with war and stuff but- I just- listen to me. Poseidon is the god of earthquakes as well. Rumbling, oh yeah. And I know the ocean was more of Armin's dream and all the symbolism, but Eren wanting to go and see the ocean... I don't know, in my mind his Godly parent is Poseidon.

- Armin, Child of Athena: not much to say, Goddess of wisdom and war strategy. Armin's smart, strategic, always got a plan. Alternatively, I've thought of him being a child of Aphrodite, and I don't dislike the idea.

- Mikasa, Child of Athena: I'm kinda lost with her but I like to think she's the other side of the coin. Like, the part of Children of Athena that's pure talent for arms and battles. Because Mikasa is pure talent for battle, but I feel she lacks the aggressiveness of Ares children.

- Erwin, Child of Zeus: yes I know he can be another child of Athena but his confidence, his presence, his leading abilities. Just big Zeus vibes I get from him.

- Mike, Child of.... Well I like him being a child of Apollo like anon suggested, and it fits my headcanon of Mike. But, I feel canon Mike would probably be a Child of Ares.

- Moblit, Child of Apollo: I really like the idea of him being able to heal. Also, he's a talented artist and a ray of sunshine.

Pyro delusion came from the Fatui/The Feds. Cellbit has constantly chased not only knowledge, but knowledge of things beyond his control. He’s literally searching for the impossible: himself

Jaiden- Cryo polearm, Electro delusion holder. Cryo visions go to the people who feel rejected from society, or who aren’t part of the common whole anymore. Electro delusion comes from the Fatui. Jaiden feels super excluded now that her son is dead and the entire world is against her due to her connections with the Fatui, so of course she’d accept the delusion. The Fatui just get her

Fit- Pyro claymore. Pyro visions go to just really passionate people, people who care about what they do. But Fit didn’t get a vision until he met all his new friends and discovered a new passion: protecting his son and exploding the hell out of anyone trying to mess with his friends and family

As for where everyone lives, Baghera is kinda just. Chilling in France/Fontaine. So is Fit. Jaiden’s probably from Inazuma or something. Everyone else would be from Natlan, right? Cause that’s the Latin America nation, BUT Natlan also isn’t out yet, so idk actually

For those who may not know, @sccccccram is referring to controversial plans for a tunnel through the Stonehenge landscape. To be clear the tunnel will not damage Stonehenge or affect the land immediately around it where tourists usually visit. The argument for the tunnel or one of them at least is that the busy road that goes by the site and is visible from the monument would be diverted to the tunnel and would no longer be visible to visitors (eventually, that is, once the construction is finished and the enormous scar heals).Maybe the real reasons some people want the tunnel are that:

1. travelers on the now crowded road that at times barely crawls past Stonehenge would theoretically get where they're going faster once the tunnel is in. And of course some of those people are wealthy donors to the Tory Party who have second (or third or fourth) homes in Cornwall.

and 2. huge amounts of money will be made by the companies that build the tunnel and anyone they're pleased with, like politicians who helped make it happen.In the interest of full disclosure some archaeologists are in favour of the tunnel too. (Including people I respect like Mike Pitts, former editor of British Archaeology Magazine and author of some books on Stonehenge, and Tess Machling, a brilliant thinker and archaeologist, I especially recommend her work on gold torcs!) It isn't clear why in many cases. Some are just tired of people treating Stonehenge as more special than other sites. But we will always know the tunnel is there, won't we? We won't be walking over the peaceful chalk landscape the ancients revered. We'll be walking over what is basically an industrial site with cars and trucks running beneath our feet. That's a huge qualitative difference to the experience of anyone who likes to walk and imagine the past. And that's not even mentioning the entrances and exits of the tunnel. It's hard to believe they won't affect things, sounds-wise and lights-wise.

I had a funny thought, what if during the inevitable Gabriel vs Micheal fight, Micheal is winning, Gabe's on the ropes, helmet smashed open but during Mike's hate monologue the coin V1 flicked into the Gabe void flings out, terminal velocity, nailing Micheal and giving Gabe time to turn the tables and get his first real coin combo.

even better if this is like, decades later after v1 flicked it in there, where has it been? who knows! Anyway, how would the sibling scuffle work out anyway because the only way I can see Micheal actually listening to what Gabe has to say is after a beatdown so great that he cant run away from the truth.

UUGUHTHHUHGH THE COIN KNEW WHEN IT WAS NEEDED. and i love this bc i also definitely see gabriel adapting some of v1's strategies in his technique, the mannerisms just evolving naturally like others might copy speech or habits from their partner. he will utilize the hell out of that thing and be doubly grateful that he. now knows where it is lol but otherwise you're absolutely right in the sense that this is the only way michael could be reasoned with - he would need to be left so exhausted the meager threads of his light won't allow him to teleport in retreat. gabriel knows it's not the easiest solution since michael is just about as accustomed to loss as he once was, but he can't imagine any other way to get him to actually listen. unfortunately, he needs to be brought low before gabriel can make an earnest appeal - and he figures he has one chance to do it.

in all honesty, gabriel isn't hopeful about michael's reception to anything he has to say - michael became deeply ingrained in his ways a long time ago and his life has only served to solidify an unwavering adherence to god's will. gabriel knows, better than any of them, that he is fighting against the trauma seeded by lucifer's fall and now grown into the fruit of what michael's desperation has wrought in his decaying body. that's not. conducive to gabriel's position, because it has fostered a mental schema fortified against all collapse as that would destroy michael from the inside out. it MUST maintain, or everything he's done since the war in heaven to now tearing apart his own soul is rendered pointless in his eyes. but that's way gabriel deliberates on exactly how to approach it, and he digs deep into the messenger he once was. this was his job, to not just speak of joy but of so much evil too, and now it's imperative he frames the latter in a way michael can hear and let in. it's all been leading to this, he thinks.

so gabriel approaches him as the servant of god that he is, so staunch in his devotion that even other angels in heaven cannot understand him. he gave everything, his body and his soul, into service to the lord, and he loved so deeply that it devoured him whole. gabriel calls on him to stop his hatred then, to finally bleed the infected wound that's never gotten the chance to breathe because he so feared it would corrupt his mind. he has done enough, he has done so much more than anyone would ever even try - it's not his fault that god is gone, and it is not his fault he won't come back. michael did what no one else was willing to do, so the work is done. god poured so much of his wrath onto michael that in his return he forgot he could do so much more, and gabriel firmly reminds him of heaven's current status. he is not just some jailer, his entire existence isn't meant to be so wrapped up in the punishment of sinners and the demons of hell. michael sees souls upon their death and offers them a chance at repentance, michael is the prince of the angels and he leads their brothers in his fairness and wisdom. there is a heaven where he's needed, two remaining archangels that still look to him for guidance, and there can be peace if he chooses it. peace within himself. he is needed and he is loved, but gabriel demands that he must rid himself of all the hatred he harbors for his own sin and how it manifests into his treatment now of those in hell. because michael would HATE to hear it, but gabriel knows this is the most important point he has - his crusade now is not fought for god, but to preserve his legacy, to prove to himself and all others that he is still michael. it's a risk to shove it in his face so plainly, but gabriel knows he responds much better to tough love than walking on eggshells. and if one thing could FINALLY break him out of his rampage against hell, it would be gabriel, inhabiting the role of god's messenger, telling him in no uncertain terms that his motivation now are purely selfish. he has put god's name on a personal vitriol, and that would at least make him think.

Wisdom Teeth Poly Losers HCs

I got my wisdom teeth out recently and :)) I am in so much pain bc what was suppose to be a simple surgery turned into fuck shit bc ofc I had to have complicated teeth :))) my bottom teeth were on my nerve line and the dentist didn't realize this until they were pulling my bottom teeth out- I was awake too, just numb :) anyways enjoy some headcannons for what I think would happen with the Losers getting their wisdom teeth out

So this is set in my Poly losers universe and when they're young adults most of the losers have to get their wisdom teeth removed

The exceptions are Richie because his dad was a dentist so he had them removed in high school and also Eddie because of his mom

Eddie didn't even need his removed but of course his mom had them done anyways :/ I think also because of her he had them removed first, a year or so before Richie

This leaves Mike, Stan, Bev, Ben, and Bill who needs to get their removed

What prompts this is Bill, who a tooth ache and refused to go the dentist. Due to his parent's neglect he never really went to the dentist so he doesn't see why he has to go now

It takes Eddie threatening to forcefully drag Bill there himself for him to finally go

And yes Eddie goes with Bill and yes Eddie holds his hand during the appointment because Bill won't admit it but he's a little scared of those tools

Turns out one of Bill's wisdom teeth are infected and need to removed asap

So when they get home to discuss scheduling Bill's surgery with the others, Bill's worried and Mike being Mike graciously mentions how he still needs to get his removed to agrees to do it with Bill

This gives Stan the idea that- Hey they're starting to have a bit of extra income, might as well go get everyone else's done too

They're going to have Mike and Bill go first and then the next weekend Bev and Ben and THEN Stan will go

There's no reason he decided he would go last

Any who Bill and Mike's surgery happens and Bill is the BIGGEST BABY who clings to Mike the moment they get in the car

They're both drugged up and Mike goes to kiss Bill bc 'oh no his baby' and poor Ben has to get into the back between Mike and Bill to keep them from accidently hurting themselves

Bill and Mike just both end up clinging to Ben and the moment they get home won't let Ben leave them

They both proceed to pass out on Ben on the couch

Ben doesn't mind

Also I love the idea of Richie spoon feeding Mike and Bill with mocking pouty faces and going like 'Oooo does Billy Willy and Mikey Wikey hurt?'

Mike laughs (the best that he can) at Richie and Bill throws a pillow at him

He misses

Otherwise Mike and Bill heal up with little complications- Thanks to Stan and Eddie, and neither of them mind eating junk food like smoothing and apple sauce for a couple days

Oh also Bill ended having to braces a couple weeks after his surgery because he never got them in his teens and turns out he needed them- he's very upset about it

You can take the headcannon of young adult Bill with braces from my cold dead fists

The next weekend it's Ben and Bev's turn

Knowing what happened with Bill and Mike, after the surgery Bev and Ben ride home in separate cars

Richie rides in the back with Bev in the car she's in and drugged up Bev is OBSESSED with Richie's hair

Like she can't stop herself from running her hand through it and tugging on the curls

Richie finds this hilarious

Meanwhile Ben gets nauseous from the pain medicine :( bb is not having a good time and rides with his head in Bill's lap

But it turns out Ben probably has the easiest recovery of them all bc the next day he feels completely fine and can act like normal- aside from his mushy diet but he was already a big smoothie guy anyways

Poor Bev suffers

She's a texture person when it comes to food and Stan and Eddie has to fight to keep her from eating the wrong things bc she keeps trying to rush the healing process

The next week is worst than the actual surgery for her

The moment she gets the okay she can eat like normal though, all the Losers work together to cook her her favorite meal

And by all the Losers I mean Ben and Mike while the others help

Also she had to quit smoking during her heal week and that was absolute hell so she was very grouchy

Everyone- even Eddie- was happy when she got to light up again

Then it's Stan's turn for him to get his teeth out

He's very calm and composed and he trusts Eddie to take care of him since its Eddie and he's been helping Stan take care of the others

Turns out Stan's teeth are impacted which means a big ouch

But he's Stan and he'll be damned with unnecessary teeth are going to break him

party at a rich dude’s house

a byler fic (yes, i got the title from a song)

the party decided to go to their first high school party. will was wary of how this event would go but mike sweet talked him. “c’mon, what’s the worst that could happen?” he asked, oh how naïve he was. will eventually agreed after that and the six of them were off to some rich dude’s house. “so, byers, are you gonna stay sober the whole night?” lucas asked, will nodded, somehow knowing that everyone else was going to get black out drunk. as soon as they entered the house, they were hit with the stench of alcohol and sweaty teenagers. will gagged but, proceeded to go in.

cyndi lauper’s all through the night rang throughout the house. will walked past the crowd and saw el getting some punch, lucas and dustin were doing beer pong and max observed the two sneering. he couldn’t find mike, though. eventually, will found mike with a bottle of vodka in hand. “hey, mike, ya good?” will asked, mike giggled and nodded. will sat down next to him, mike giggled again and leaned his head on will’s shoulder. his face had a rose pink tint on it. “you know, it’s crazy how much you could drink in one night.” mike said breathlessly. will slowly nodded, not sure where this new found wisdom was coming from. “sometimes, i wonder what would happen if i like died from alcohol poisoning or something, you know?” mike said, though it didn’t feel direct towards will.

will started to worry, this vodka was seriously going to mike’s head but he couldn’t find himself to take in from him. this was the first time mike’s been open with him for a while so will continued to let mike talk. “hey, will?” he asked, will hummed. “i don’t love el.” mike said, frowning before giggling again. will’s heart sank, “oh, yeah?” he asked, “yeah, she’s not my type.” mike replied bluntly. will raised a eyebrow at that, “who is your type?” he asked, mike smiled softly. “oh, short, brown hair, uh male-.” mike began to say then stopped to hiccup. will stared at nothing in particular. ‘did he just come out to me?’ he thought, grinning inside. ‘don’t get your hopes up just yet, you don’t know if he likes you!’ he scolded himself.

“i’m glad that i’m friends with you, will.” mike said, yawning. will smiled “me too, mike, me too.” he said then he heard soft snoring. ‘he conked out quick.’ will thought before shifting around to gently take mike’s head off his shoulder and hoisting him up to his feet. he steadied mike by holding him bridal style, will pushed past people, trying to find the party. he found them all knocked out on the couch, will shook his head before poking max with his elbow. “ow! dude, why’d you do that?” max exclaimed, will shushed her. “me and mike are going to head out.” he said, max nodded, smirking. “how’d you get sleeping beauty to knock out?” she asked, will chuckled. “he drank half a bottle of vodka.” he replied, max snickered. “see ya later, byers!” she called to will, “see ya, max!” he replied.

outside, will found his car and shifted mike’s weight onto his shoulder. he pulled his car keys out of his pocket, unlocking the door and placing mike in the front seat. he moaned softly, shifting in the seat and his eyes fluttered. will gushed, mike was a pretty sight when he slept. after a half hour drive, the two made it to the wheeler’s house. to will’s surprise, the door was unlocked and no one was inside. he, with mike in tow, walked up the stairs to mike’s room. to put it lightly, mike definitely didn’t look like the world’s cleanest person when you first saw his room. but, it did look of that of every other teenage boy’s room in life. will trudged his way through piles of clothes to mike’s bed, which fortunately was made.

he placed mike down softly on the bed, taking off his shoes and wiped off the bit of eyeliner mike felt like wearing. will also took off mike’s jacket and threw it in the heap of clothes nearby. after that, he tucked mike in and was about to leave the room when he heard a small voice. “will…stay please?” mike said softly, will tucked back a smile. he opened the door and walked through it again, closing it. “sure, mike.” will said, taking off his shoes and walking up to mike’s bed.

after the two of them got comfortable, mike turned to face will. they stared into each other’s eyes. “will..?” mike said, will hummed softly. “could i kiss you?” mike asked, will laid there in shock. ‘is this what i think this is? my best friend just asked to kiss me! somebody pinch me right now!’ will thought. “will.. you still there?” mike asked, will snapped out of his trance. “oh, yeah, i’m still here. you can kiss me.” will replied, nothing could top the pure joy will could feel radiating from mike’s smile. he leaned in slowly and then will filled the gap. for his first kiss, will would say that he did fairly good. they parted for air in about a minute. then, as to act on impulse, will kissed mike again. mike seems to automatically relax into the kiss. soon, tongue was added and they were officially making out.

whether it was the alcohol(will didn’t drink) or if it just felt like the night, will wasn’t sure. what he was sure of though, was that he was currently making out with his best friend since kindergarten, who probably wasn’t going to remember this in the morning. will could care less, maybe mike would remember this. who knows? one thing’s for sure, they should probably break for air and they did… 5 minutes later. mike had laid his head on top of will’s chest, listening to his heart beating. “that was amazing.” will said breathlessly, mike giggled. “yeah? el said i’m a terrible kisser.” he said, will laughed. “yeah, it was. you were my first kiss.” he said, playing with mike’s hair. they sat in silence for a bit then mike asked, “i really was your first kiss?” “you were.” will said, it was really crazy saying that aloud.

“i love you, will.” mike said bluntly, a hint of grogginess in his voice. will look down at mike, “i love you too, mike. always and forever.” he has said, mike smiled, clearly content with will’s answer. he soon fell asleep, will sneakily placed a kiss on mike’s forehead. “goodnight, mike.” he whispered and closed his eyes. soon, sleep took over and everything was good. that night was the best night of will’s life. though, it only lasted a mere few hours, he would forever cherish those minutes, seconds leading up to his kiss with mike and afterward. the couple were happy even if it was just for a while.

Mike, like elves, embodies the feeling of watching those around you that you love die and suffer, especially mortals, as you watch and absorb all of it and try to save them but you know that in the end even if you save them from war and from beasts and from vengeful gods, you cannot save them from their ultimate fate and so you watch them pass and you wait for your grief to fester into something that bursts out of you eventually despite your attempts to wrangle it!!!

THIS is what I mean when I say that Mike would be an elf!!! it’s about digging past the stereotypes of the calm graceful, emotionless elves and instead staring at the feelings of repression and guilt and saviour complex and rage and passion and the endless pursuit of purpose that comes with the silmarillion elves!! the burden of it all!!! the complex familial dynamics of it all!!!! the following people that you love into hell and mutilating them in your attempts to save them from that hell of it all!!! and you do save them!! but you feel like it’s your fault that they needed to be saved in the first place so you still don’t FEEL like you saved them!!! the accidentally hurting people because it feels like you’re doomed by your nature to hurt people of it all!!! the feeling like a curse of it all!!! the LOVE of it all!!! the love that spurs your grief!! that spurs your self-sacrifice!!! the love that spurs all of it!! the love that sealed your fate!!! by the time he's, like, 20, he's got multiple ear piercings and a septum piercing

in that same vein, planned on getting tattoos before getting scooped

only interested in the above because it's genuinely his style, not to like. get back at his dad or whatever. (like at most my william would slightly resent the fact that mike does whatever the fuck he wants with his appearance VS william forcing himself to stay so in line, if that makes sense. he's not old-fashioned regarding piercing/tattoos/etc)

bi, but has an extremely strong preference for men and masc-aligned ppl

complicated relationship with gender. like, he's fairly openly queer and interacts with other queer ppl, so he does explore gender presentation to an extent in those spaces, but hurricane isn't exactly... a queer hotspot (unless they're my portrayals in which case nobody is straight ever). still, he doesn't really hear abt IDing as nonbinary until long after the scooping. at that point, his identity as a whole is, er, complex and it's not really his priority. but he does recognize that he's nb at that point. tends to still default to using he/him pronouns and masc terminology, but comfortable with and occasionally uses they/them.

this is a headcanon i'm Tentative to post because i think ppl can be nervous because of my personal experiences, but fuck it: he absolutely struggles with self-harm. it starts in high school and honestly he never fully recovers normally. the scooping kind of, uh, gets in the way of it. he was already trying to get clean prior, but y'know. this should be a given, but he covers the wounds/scars and doesn't tell people. by default, nobody in his family knows about it.

OMG OK I GOT YOU!! so i’m just gonna splurge my brain here and it might be a little chaotic but that’s just how my thoughts are working rn. gonna focus mainly on our byler boys in pain and comforting each other but lmk if there’s anyone else you want to see focused on

so i think that the party definitely loves going to theme parks

and mike will go on rides with everyone else but no one knows that he actually HATES roller coasters

well, no one except will

so mike is going around with them all day going on roller coasters and shit and trying his best to hide all of his anxiety and no one really sees how off he’s acting but will’s radar is very much intact

on the way home mike is being super quiet because he’s trying to calm down from a super anxiety-inducing day and he doesn’t want anyone to know

(they are in lucas’s minivan btw, lucas and max are up front, dustin and max in the middle, and will and mike in the back)

will knows just how to calm mike down without being super obvious, though

he reaches over and grabs mike’s hand and squeezes it a certain number of times (each number of times means different things: 1 for yes, 2 for no, 3 for i love you, 3 and a thumb tap for are you okay?, etc.)

and mike responds with squeezes, and gives will a small smile because will always knows how to ground him back to reality

and when they go home they both hang out at mike’s house and will just holds his boy and they sit in a comfortable silence and watch one of mike’s comfort movies

and will gives him forehead kisses and just <3333333

another headcanon!! will getting his wisdom teeth out!

so will gets his appointment to get his wisdom teeth out when he’s about 16

and will hasn’t come out to his family or the majority of his friends yet, he’s only come out to mike at this point (who also came out to him and then they started secretly dating and yadda yadda yadda you know the bit)

but anyway. will gets this appointment scheduled and he’s super quiet the whole way home but the second he gets in his house he goes straight to his room and just. breaks down

he’s not scared for the surgery but he does have that fear that he’s going to come out while under the anesthesia 

well mike comes over for dinner that night and joyce tells him that will is in his room and he walks in to see will just sobbing into his pillow

so mike quickly goes over to his side and holds him from behind (because will doesn’t like people looking at him while he’s crying)

and after a few minutes will calms down a bit and slowly tells mike what’s bothering him

which. mike completely understands the fear

so mike rubs will’s hand and tells him that, although it’s a scary thought, you’re more in control of your words than you think, you just don’t remember it much

and mike ends up messaging joyce and offering to take will home after the surgery and take care of him so she doesn’t have to miss a day of work, which joyce graciously accepts and tells him to call her if the two need anything

and hearing this news INSTANTLY puts will at ease

flash forward to the surgery

without the anxiety, will is just about the flirtiest loopy person ever on anesthesia 

mike has to make will sit in the back seat because will kept trying to lean over and kiss him while he was in the passenger seat

but mike and will cuddle after the surgery and everything is ok <3

and let me just throw in a brief max cameo bc i am OBSESSED with this idea

i am a huge believer that mike (despite his scrawniness) can and will physically fight anyone who dares to mess with his friends. however, in steve season one fashion, he tends to lose these fights. one day, mike is in the lunchroom and one of the basketball idiots starts bullying eddie and calling him slurs. well, one thing leads to another, and mike ends up with a black eye.

this might be hard to believe, but MAX COMFORTS HIM!! those two get on each other’s nerves a lot, but max is actually the best listener and comforter in the world. after the fight, mike is really quiet and closed off and kind of pissed at the world and just shuts himself in his room. no one’s quite sure of the best way to help him, so max heads into his room and just kinda sits on the floor. mike is on his bed and barely looks over before asking what she was doing and she just said “sitting”. and the two of them go into a comfy silence and after a few minutes mike starts talking about the fight and how upset and embarrassed he feels and max just quietly listens, which is just what mike needs. bonus: after a little while, mike sits up and pats the bed for max to come over and sit, so she does. and she brought a little makeup case into his room and fixes up his black eyes and gives him some cute eyeliner at the same time <3 mike is very thankful for her

      wesley always struggled with the idea of purpose. having both of his parents who had big legacies attached to them wasn’t easy. the hamato clan was all about destiny and the skellington name held a weight he felt he would only crumble under. lilith always had a perfect sense of self, diana had her path planned for her as her papa’s clone and well callie didn’t have to worry she was the baby. what did wes have? nothing at least he believed so when he was a teenager and lost. after jasper left the role of mayor of hallow falls, any set path wes had was derailed. jasper didn’t want what he had to go through for his son. the town cost him many things - his marriage more importantly and sense of self. jasper didn’t want to have wes suffer the same fate. by stripping that away from him it left wes lost and truthfully insecure because what did he have to offer? it was an existential crisis he dealt with for sometime

      now in his twenties wes has calmed down. don’t be fooled he’s still a menace and a headache on a good day but he’s a lot more tame than he used to be. when he’s not being bombarded by his sisters who love him or hanging out with his best friends ( reggie rogers & lucien reyes-park i love u ) you’ll find wes with his boyfriend, harry teague. they were friends for a long time. like his dads, wes had no romantic interest. unlike his dads, he was well aware of everyone else's interest in him but wes only had eyes for harry. he’s stupidly in love and happy to have found someone who makes him feel alive. wes juggles being a university student ( yes his dad’s his professor and he hates being asked if his dad is single thanks ), working for his papa’s tech company ( that he’ll take over one day ! ) and being a menace to society. as the lone son of jasper he was expected to take over the spirit of halloween title but instead gave that to lili. he knew his sister would thrive at it better than he would. that of course caused problems with his grandparents but wes didn’t care. he happily told them off. he’s writing his own destiny whether they like it or not. he has the support of is parents which is all that really matters to him. he knows now that he has a lot to offer the world. 

random  facts

being donnie’s son means that wes is connected to the hamato ninpo. it’s a recent discovery and he’s still navigating how to use it. since diana now has a bow and arrow, donnie’s bo staff has been passed down to him. like donnie he’s able to conjure weapons with his mystic ability. he’s able to transform donnie’s staff into a scythe. his ninpo is black and tied to the phases of the moon. the different phases are shown on his body. ( inspo / x )

as a half skeleton monster the transformation wasn’t as seamless as it was for jasper. it takes an hour for jasper to turn back into a human whereas it took days for wes to transform back. unable to bear with the idea of his son being uncomfortable donnie found and herb that would make wes’ transformation easier the way it was for jasper. they grow it in their garden at home to have on hand. with it wes is able to transform just as fast as jasper. he doesn’t skeleton out a lot because of how time consuming the process is but he does when necessary. he only removes body parts when needed since donnie doesn’t like seeing his son dismembered.  

very protective of his family. he used to get in many fights when he was younger defending his family’s honor, mostly donnie’s. he heard the horror stories of how his father’s parents treated him and how the town turned on him during orion’s lies. wes also grew up watching hallow falls mistreat his papa. as he got older he stopped using his fists and started using his words to tear people who had things to say about his family. fiercely protective of his sisters. his sisters are so damn safe bro. he loves them with everything he has. however, diana is his parent in crime. his best friend. they’re lovingly called the lavender twins. 

named after iconic horror director ( creator of a nightmare on elm street & scream ) wes craven to keep in theme with the spooky / gothic aesthetic jasper had going on. donnie would be damned if their son was named freddy or jason. his middle name is bestowed upon him by serena. she blessed each hamato-skellington child with different things. for wes, it was lavender to ward off bad dreams. so to honor his best friend, and his husband’s affinity with purple, wes was given the middle lavandin 

wes is a certified genius. we know this. look at his parents. wes is so smart that at nineteen he figured out a new formal to solve an equation. he was able to write a phd level thesis for this new formal of course with the help of donnie because he wanted his papa to be part of that because wes didn’t think of it as a big deal. it just made sense to him

Analysing Mike and Will based off their dnd classes

This is going to be a long one. We all know the dnd games are important, but I don't think I've seen anyone talk about what their classes might mean for them as characters, so let's do that.

(sidenote, I would love to make this with the first edition handbook, because that's the version of the game the party would have played. Unfortunately I don't have that, so I'm using 5e, which came out in 2014 and so would have been out when the show released. If anyone has the first edition, please check all of this for yourself)

One thing that always struck me as odd, is the fact that Mike plays a paladin. Part of the fun of dnd is creating new characters and experimenting with different classes, so the fact that all of the boys stick to just one has to mean something, right?

Besides, Mike is the DM, he shouldn't need a character, and again the fact he has a distinct class he plays has to mean something.

So what makes paladins different to fighters? Their connection to the divine.

To quote the player's handbook "A paladin swears to uphold righteousness, to stand with the good things of the world, and to hunt the forces of evil wherever they lurk." Paladins are almost always good in alignment, and if you've ever watched Dimension 20's The Unsleeping City, Ricky Matsui is a perfect example of that.

But while Ricky is fueled by the power of civic duty, that's not the only option. At 3rd level, your character chooses one of three oaths to swear, and each one gives different abilities. There's the Oath of Devotion, Oath of the Ancients, and Oath of Vengeance. So let's break those down.

Oath of Devotion

The Oath of Devotion is what I typically think of when I hear the word paladin. It "binds a paladin to the loftiest ideals of justice, virtue, and order" and is your typical "knight in shining armour." Their core tenets are:

Honesty. Don't lie or cheat. Let your word be your promise. (friends don't lie)

Courage. Never fear to act, though caution is wise.

Compassion. Aid others, protect the weak, and punish those who threaten them. Show mercy to your foes, but temper it with wisdom.

Honour. Treat others with fairness, and let your honourable deeds be an example to them. Do as much good as possible while causing the least amount of harm.

Duty. Be responsible for your actions and their consequences, protect those entrusted to your care, and obey those who have just authority over you.

This feels like the Oath 12 year old Mike would made to protect his friends. I mentioned friends don't lie, which was so important to him that he taught it to El in season 1 as one of her first life lessons.

Speaking of El though, the tenet about compassion is exactly what we saw him do when he took her in, as well as how he acted with Will in season 2.

All of this starts to break down as he gets older though, and I'll talk about that later

Oath of the Ancients

To quote the handbook, "The Oath of the Ancients is as old as the race of elves and the rituals of the druids." This is all about the natural world, and choosing good over all else, rather than things like honour, courage and justice. The tenets are as follows:

Kindle the light. Through your acts of mercy, kindness, and forgiveness, kindle the light of hope in the world, beating back dispair.

Shelter the light. Where there is good, beauty, love, and laughter in the world, stand against the wickedness that would swallow it. Where life flourishes, stand against the forces that would see it barren.

Preserve your own light. Delight in song and laughter, in beauty and art. If you allow the light to die in your own heart, you can't preserve it in the world.

Be the light. Be a glorious beacon for all who live in dispair. Let the light of your joy and courage shine forth in all your deeds.

The abilities you gain from this Oath are all about nature, and it feels like it's hinting about how to defeat vecna. All the tenets focus on the "light" and they even mention music!

Oath of Vengeance

Rather than a beacon of virtue or light, paladins following the Oath of Vengeance take on "a solemn commitment to punish those who have committed a grevious sin" and "their own purity is not as important as delivering justice." Their tenets are "brutally simple"

Fight the greater evil. Faced with a choice of fighting my sworn foes or combating a lesser evil, I choose the greater evil.

No mercy for the wicked. Ordinary foes might win my mercy, but my sworn enimies do not.

By any means necessary. My qualms can't get in the way of exterminating my foes.

Restitution. If my foes wreak ruin on the world, it is because I failed to stop them. I must help those harmed by their misdeeds.

The Oath of Vengeance is what Mike (and the others) could become. It's a warning sign, almost, that while they might win, what about the cost?

You could probably do a whole analysis just on each Oath individually and how they relate to the show, but I have a lot to get through, so I'll keep it brief.

As I see it, there are two possible ways to take this. The first is that as Mike changes, the Oath he follows will too. As I mentioned earlier, season 1 Mike would be trying to follow the Oath of Devotion, but by the end it will be the Oath of the Ancients that defeats vecna. The other option (which is more in line with how an actual dnd game would play) is to do with what happens when a paladin breaks their Oath.

"A paladin who has broken a vow typically seeks absolution from a cleric... After a rite of confession and forgiveness, the paladin starts fresh"

Hmm, if only we had a cleric who could do that for him...

Because if Mike's following the Oath of Devotion, then he's long since broken it, and Will's the only one who not only calls him out on his bullshit, but also can get him realise his mistakes and apologise for them.

Speaking of Will, he's next, and boy was there a lot I found.

The thing that got me to look into this in the first place was the detail that both paladins and clerics are religious figures. I don't know if that means anything, but it's an odd connection between the two, especially considering that no other class has a connection to divinity. The closest would be a warlock, but both the beings and the relationship is very different. (plus, warlocks weren't a thing back then) Still, worth mentioning I think.

According to the handbook, "divine magic... Is the power of the gods, flowing from them into the world. Clerics are conduits manifesting it as miraculous effects. The gods don't grant this power to everyone who seeks it, but only to those chosen to fulfill a high calling."

I'm a firm believer in the idea that vecna wants to train Will so that when vecna dies, Will inherits control of the Upside Down, and to me, this reads like vecna channelling his powers through Will. It's honestly closer to the relationship between a warlock and their patron, but again, they weren't a thing in first edition dnd.

Like paladins, there are different paths you can take as a cleric, and they're based on whatever deity you follow.

There are seven domains, and a deity can have control over any number of them. They are: knowledge, life, light, nature, tempest, trickery, and war. At 1st level, a cleric chooses one that their deity has control over, and they gain different abilities at various levels based on that choice. For vecna, he probably counts as knowledge, trickery and war, so those are the ones I'll talk about.

War is easy to cross out for Will. He's not a fighter, he wouldn't even hurt D'art when he had every reason to do so.

Both knowledge and trickery could work though, and each has different implications for possible powers he might have.

The description for the trickery domain talks about the gods as "a constant challenge to the accepted order among both gods and mortals" which is pretty accurate to the role vecna plays, as an enemy of both brenner and the government, ("gods") but also the party ("mortals").

One of the abilities from following this domain is called Channel Divinity: Cloak of Shadows. The description reads "Starting at 6th level, you can use your Channel Divinity to vanish"

"He's good at hiding."

The description for the knowledge domain didn't really fit with vecna, as far as I could tell, but he is called Will the wise, so there's a connection there. One of the Channel Divinities in this domain is called Read Thoughts, and the description reads "At 6th level, you can use your Channel Divinity to read a creature's thoughts. You can then use your access to the creature's mind to command it."

Sounds familiar...

Whichever one you choose has massive implications for Will, and I honestly don't know which would fit better.

One more tiny detail I think is worth mentioning, is Will's use of fireball in season 1. In 5e, there are actually two spells, fireball and fire bolt. For fireball, you don't roll to hit. Rather, anyone in range of the spell has to make a dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, they take full damage, and on a successful one they take half damage. With Will's failed roll in the opening of episode 1, he has to have used fire bolt instead.

The only problem with that, is that neither fireball not fire bolt are on the list of cleric spells. By all rights, Will couldn't have cast either spell.

Is it intentional? Just a plot hole? Or is it different in first edition?

I don't know. I don't have a lot of answers, I just thought it was an interesting theory that I haven't seen done before.

"How true was that." I sigh, tracing the faded letters underneath the photograph with my forefinger. "He followed her to death so they could be together forever." How romantic but bullshit. "Romantic bullshit."

I trace the faded, ornamental cursive with my forefinger. "Why wasn't I good enough for you, Dad? Why couldn't you stay for me?" I guess you just were so in love. So in love it destroyed you. My eyes flit to the faded photograph. My mother looks like a 60s film star. Her curls tumble down her narrow shoulders and her eyes seem to sparkle even stranded in time. She looks pale and I can see a few freckles on her face. She's wearing a long floral dress. My father stands next to her, an arm slung around his beloved. His eyes are full of love and devotion. I tuck the photograph away in the chest. I spent a moment looking at the lovely sunflowers painted on the wooden surface. I stand on my tiptoes and wedge the chest on the top shelf in between a copy of Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights. "We could get a new bookshelf if you wanted to", Mike says rather shyly. I turn around to smile at him, struggling a little with my inner sadness. "I wasn't watching you or eavesdropping, you know. I hope I'm not coming out as creepy." He smirks. I take a few steps toward him and put my arms around his neck. "I would never say no to a new bookshelf, or anything related to books to be honest." I kiss him. "I love you", I mutter in between new kisses. I feel Mike's arms pulling me closer. "I love you too", he says with a wide smile. Then his smile fades a little, his forest eyes have a serious glint in them. "You can talk to me about anything, you know."

"I know." I rest my head on Mike's chest to hear his heartbeat. "I miss my parents. I didn't know them but Gods, I miss them so fucking much. My childhood could have been so much better." My words come out in a rush and slightly muffled. Mike drops a kiss on my hair. "I wasn't good enough for him, Mike. It's bullshit." I blink back tears. "I know, I'm sorry." Mike traces a heart shape on my back. "You're a million times good enough for me and everyone else who loves you, Sunshine." I lift my gaze to look into Mike's eyes. Immediately I can imagine I'm in a lovely forest clearing, dappled sunlight all around me, filtering through the trees. I feel a smile tucking at the corners of my lips. "Thank you."

"You're welcome, roomie." Mike grins cautiously. I stand on my tiptoes and kiss him. He lifts me off my feet slightly. We're smiling. Someone clears their throat and Mike places down. Eddie leans into the doorframe awkwardly. "This is the last box."

"Yeah, thanks for the help, Eds." Mike's smile hasn't faded. Eddie rolls his eyes. "What else would I do today other than help my ex move in with his new girlfriend? It's not like I have a child or anything." Livi climbs on the box. What a darling child, I think. She has a wide smile on her small face. "You have me, daddy!" she exclaims. Eddie glances at her with a fond look. "I was being sarcastic, sweetie", he says kindly. "You'll learn the magic of it when you're older."

"The magic of sarcasm." Mike nodded. "What a profounding life lesson for your daughter."

"I'm just imparting some wisdom." Eddie grins. "Why didn't you leave Livi with Mona anyway?" Mike asks. "Would you trust a child with Mona?" Eddie raises an eyebrow. Mike laughed. "Don't tell that to her."

"She's not the most responsible person", Eddie says. "She dated you after all." Mike pretends to be offended. "You dated me." Eddie shrugs. "We weren't talking about me." Livi poked him on his arm. "I'm bored. What does this box have in it?" Her bright eyes turn to me. I peer at the writing on the side. "Probably rocks judging by how heavy it was", Eddie complains. I ignore him. "Books." Livi nods. "I like books. I'm not allowed to read Harry Potter, though."

"Why not?" Mike asks. "She's five years old. Do you need any other reasons?" Eddie asks. "When can she read it then? When she's eleven and receives her acceptance letter from Hogwarts?" Mike questions. Livi's smile widens. "Oi, don't give her hope. I never got my letter", Eddie mutters. "Alright, Livi, let's head home." He bends down and Livi jumps on his back. "See you around." He waves his hand awkwardly. Mike smirks. "Yeah. I love you both." He ruffles Livi's hair quickly. Her curls are already very ruffled up, but she laughs. I boop her nose which makes her laugh more. Eddie hesitates for a few seconds by the door. "I love you too", he finally says. Once Livi and Eddie have left, Skai turns on the radio. A song from Gracie Abrams begins playing. “May I have this dance?” With a big smile, Skai offers their hand and Mike accepts it with an adoring look on his face. He pulls them close, so close, Skai can see the small freckles on his nose and the darker green spots in his hazel irises they have grown to love so much.
