Guillermo with Nandor: aggressively pulls him out of depressive episodes by fighting (verbally or literally), tired of his shit yet indulges him most of the times, generally takes care of him

Guillermo with Laszlo: "oh honey, shush now, don't fight 😘", all this domestic shit they do, me and my (??? what are they) on our silly quest again te he~

Even before s4 it kinda like Nandor is his demanding sensitive baby and Laszlo is that annoying unthreatening guy, like they were destined to be silly duo

Queening the Pawn Act 3 Part 3
Guillermo you're meeeaaannn 🥰
Acts 1-2
Act 3: Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7 - Part 8 - Part 9 - Part 10 - Part 11 - Part 12 - Part 13 - Part 14
(ID in alt and under cut)
ID: 1a. Low exterior shot of a tall office building at night, labeled in the bottom third as 'Vampiric Council Headquarters'. A speech bubble bursts out from below, reading "Heeeere they are!" 1b. Interior of the building, still styled as Nadja's nightclub. Guillermo, wearing red chinos, suspenders, and a white shirt with sleeves rolled up, is sitting at the bar with a glass of water in his hand, the small tank containing the mummified penis of Abraham van Helsing sitting nearby. Guillermo looks up as the Guide, wearing a long black skirt, boots, gloves, and a black and white striped blazer, appears and drops a tall stack of books, scrolls, paper, and one VHS at his elbow. She grins and announces, "The Vampiric Council's entire history on the Van Helsings!" 1b. Repeat. Guillermo turns toward her in his seat and reaches for the scroll on top of the stack, saying, "Huh. I don't know if I expected more or less." The Guide frowns, one hand on her hip and the other gesturing at the stack. She replies, "Hey, I went through a lot of trouble to pull all this out of storage! Vampires don't exactly love talking about this guy." A wraith hand reaches up from behind the bar to snatch Guillermo's water.
2a. Guillermo turns back toward the bar and begins to unroll the first scroll across the bartop, revealing what looks like a family tree. He says, "Yeah well. Thanks for your help." The Guide stands behind him with her arms crossed. 2b. Repeat. The Guide rolls her eyes up innocently and walks around Guillermo, sliding her hand across his back as she passes, saying, "Soooo..." Guillermo startles at the contact, his scroll springing back into a roll as he loses his grip on it. 2c. The Guide hops up to sit on the bar on Guillermo's other side and continues, "Why the sudden interest?" 2d. Close up of Guillermo in profile as he turns his attention back to the scroll, replying, "Oh, you know. Family." The Guide stares blankly from the background. 2e. Wide shot from behind Guillermo, showing the backdrop of the bar with the neon "nadja's" sign and shelves of blood. The Guide leans back and crosses her legs, asking, "Hmmm... looking for relations?" Guillermo replies, "No, just. Trying to figure out some...biological stuff."
3a. Close up on the Guide as she grins salaciously, raising an eyebrow and proudly pressing her fingers to her collarbone. She says, "Oh, I know all about Van Helsing biology, if you know what I mean." 3b. Zoom out to same angle as 2e. The Guide pauses and frowns, looking down as she presses her fist to her chin in thought. She continues, "Or at least I did, before hundreds of years of my life were ripped from my memory..." Guillermo swivels in his seat to face her with an irritated sigh, eyes closed. 3c. Close up of Guillermo's stern expression as he chops the air with one hand, saying, "Yeah, that's really, uh... tough, The Guide? But unless you remember anything useful, I'd rather do this on my own." 3d. Reverse shot of the Guide as she purses her mouth and looks away, a little hurt. She replies, "Oh. Okay, then."
4a. Close up of Guillermo from the front as he turns back toward the bar, rolling the scroll out in one hand and leaning his head on the fist of the other. In the background, the Guide turns back as she walks away, clutching the excess of her skirt in one hand. She offers a thin smile and says, "Just let me know if you need anything, okay?" Guillermo just grunts in response. 4b. Wide shot of the large double doors into the chamber as the Guide leaves through them, skirts clutched in her fists and frowning deeply. She thinks to herself, "Useful, huh? I can be useful..." /end ID

for the ask game, Ghosts or WWDITS?
oh i'm definitely doing both!!
Send me a fandom and I’ll tell you my:
BBC Ghosts:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) -> Humphrey hands down, my ultimate blorbo, my perfect wife. Silly sad head with a body that hates him. Poor guy. He's so funny, kinda pathetic, deserves a kiss on the lips.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) -> well I can't say Humphrey again, so I'll go with Kitty! My wonderful daughter. Babygirl we're gonna get you some therapy 💜
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) -> Fanny is lowkey the funniest of the group. Her reads??? Deadly.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) -> the Plague Ghosts as a collective. I care about them way too much and I really shouldn't, but I just think they're neat
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) -> Sophie Bone. I know I KNOWWWW she's mean to my fave, I KNOW she is perhaps more at fault for why the marriage with Humphrey failed. But listen. I think about her quite a bit, and I'm not defending her, but I feel like if she and Humph were both able to escape, they would learn to become friends. Acquaintances at least.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) -> Captain, NOT because I dislike him, just because he's the fan favorite. I like him, he's still one of my top favorite characters of the show, but sometimes I get sick of hearing about him all the time. I'll torment him gently by wearing clashing patterns or something
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) -> Kitty's sister, Eleanor, with quickness
WWDITS (doing movie and show):
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) -> tie between Laszlo and Vladislav. Laszlo is just the most guy ever, and Vladislav has long dark hair and an accent, so y'know.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) -> it's a tie between Guillermo and Viago
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) -> DEREK!!! I want to see more of him, hopefully in season 4
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) -> hmmm Sam the cat
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) -> my good ladywife Nadja! She's not pathetic or unpopular, but I wanted to put her up here in these spots somewhere. I guess she could be controversial for the show's writing of her Roma heritage?
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) -> Deacon, because he was canonically an ex-N*zi
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) -> Colin, but don't worry, he'd find his way back out

do you have a type?
I don’t think so? I’m mostly into women and I just like any of them. As for men, at least fictionally, I like men who look like they’re straight out of the 1800s, ready to faint from scurvy or tuberculosis or something. Or the dark brooding type. Would I like any of them as regular human beings? I have no idea. As for everyone else, *shrug*? idk just someone who’s nice to me
what does your heart/soul yearn for

When Wen Ning yelled all the truths at Cheng and it was a huge massive reveal that I predicted but all of the pretty men were crying and it was emotionalllllll. 2. like the entire rest of the show ummm the long lost cousin/child/nephew reveal 3. The ending. “...Wei Ying.” if you know then you KNOW

Hello! I just wanted to ask, are you caught up with the manga for BC and do you like asks on your thoughts on what's happening or is it not really your thing?
Ohh!! I don’t mind being asked about my thoughts on what’s going in the manga! I don’t think I had the opportunity to properly say about a chapter, so I’m glad to have a place to dump all my thoughts into lmao. Warning: I just spilled my thoughts into this so it’s a bit messy!
Regarding the most recent chapters (~Chapter 262), it was a slow descend to despair for me. I had this expectation that their 6 month training and power ups would give them at least some sort of chance to get the upper hand on the spade kingdom, but man, was I wrong! Just when we felt a glimpse of hope when characters got the upper hand, Tabata punched us with the reality that these characters aren’t ready yet. 6 months aren’t enough and he knows that!!
It was a literal whiplash where one second I was cheering on Yami and Asta because finally we had a solid win, and the other, I was shaken up that Yami, of all people, got kidnapped right before our eyes. And for a while, I was pretty down after that chapter because Tabata did a great job showcasing everyone’s desperation and despair! It was kind of hard to read because you can tell each black bull tried their best into saving Yami, but even after all their hard work, they failed. This is the lowest they’ve ever been and it shows. Everything seemed so hopeless, until Nacht finally showed up!
I’m gonna have to thank Tabata for creating Nacht’s personality the way it is because it does help lighten the mood. It’s honestly better than wallowing in sorrow for a few more chapters or meeting a new serious character! We need an emotional break!
Now, Nacht is a very interesting character and for many reasons. From what we know so far, he’s devil-possessed, uses (possibly) shadow magic, has a physical devil (Guimero), infiltrated the Spade Kingdom, hated Yami, and has a very harsh and blunt personality. He’s also the Vice-captain of the black bulls. That’s a lot to take in! He seems to know what’s going on with Yami and so I’m very excited to know what other information Nacht has in store! He was an undercover spy for a long time so I’m sure we’ll get more information in the next chapter! Well, I hope. We might visit the heart kingdom and get an update on the others or we might see Zenon with Yami and William. Either choice is juicy af!!
Random notes/questions:
‘Nacht’, german for ‘night’, how fitting!
Could it be possible that the reason Yami pestered Nacht to join his squad was because they share the same type of magic (dark = shadow)? And possibly the same frank personality? Nacht has no symbol on his grimoire so could it be that he’s an outsider? Were these factors the reason why Yami was drawn towards Nacht because they have a lot in common? Hmmm.
Also did Nacht say those harsh words about Yami in front of Asta to not only talk trash because he hates Yami, but to test Asta’s loyalty and will? Does he do this to everyone he meets? Did his sharp tongue get him in trouble? Hmmm.
Also ‘Guimero’ doesn’t have an exact translation, but it’s similar to the word ‘Guillermo’, meaning ‘Resolute protector’. Is this devil different? This one seems more chill in comparison to the other devils we know so far. Guimero seems like the type of devil you’d have a nice beer with. ‘How’s your day, Jimmy?’ ‘Been pretty great, Guimero! I just had a raise!’ ‘Ayy, cheers to that!’
But regarding the captain's reaction to William and Yami’s kidnapping? I was honestly waiting for this moment! I was curious on how each of the captains would react and possibly find out what their current thoughts/relationship with Yami are! And I was pleasantly surprised!
My notes/thoughts: (On major Characters)
Charlotte- Of course she wouldn't openly show her concern over Yami! Nice use of humor during a very tense meeting. People may find this inappropriate but I think it's greatly needed to not make this chapter too heavy! As a captain, it's good that she's keeping her emotions in check. I also liked how she was ready to go with Jack to go save Yami.
Jack- Oh now Jack was my favorite in this chapter. Even though he was harsh towards Yuno, a very young Vice Captain, I think that's his way of treating Yuno fairly for his rank. He's a vice captain, one rank under William and so he needs to take accountability. Although what he said was a bit too insensitive, I do think Jack is more harsh because his rival just got kidnapped! I'm actually surprised at how much Yami's absence affected him! He was ready to go after his boi and save his ass despite the odds. His character ended up making me fired up!! Which is better than being in despair! I want action already!!
Nozel - I was actually shook?? I don't know if Nozel is aware of Noelle's situation but Nozel reacted pretty badly (by his standards) to Yami's kidnapping!! Imagined if he found out about Noelle's situation! He might actually snap! I think it's a nice change that Nozel felt anger towards Zenon because that means there was a slight change in his and Yami's relationship. I'm going to keep an eye on how Nozel addresses Yami. Would he still use "foreigner"? I feel like Nozel's character development might start out subtle so next chapter I'll be ready to look for these details! I want more blatant character development from this guy though!
Fuegoleon- I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes Wizard King soon. He took the news calmly and had a lot of authority despite Julius being there. With Julius being a child, I think it's fitting that he'd be the next one in line. Fuegoleon's character helped ground the characters as well as myself! As each captain became more anxious over the situation, Fuegoleon was strong throughout!
Dorothy + Rill- The needed humor. Dorothy didn’t say a thing, but visually it was hilarious that she was asleep the entire time. Rill was hilarious overall! We need these light-hearted moments!! They both did their part pretty well! I like how Rill voiced how much of an impact Yami’s absence was in the meeting! It shows their close bond with Yami!!
Kaiser- Kaiser’s not as close to Yami than with the other, so it makes sense that he wasn’t that affected. He was sweating though so that means he’s at least sympathetic!
Julius-  Julius was straight up silent throughout this chapter. William and Yami were very dear to him and saw them growing up, but now he’s not in the best state to help them. I’m not sure if he’s as powerful as he was before as a child, which would suck because that means he can’t fight in the front lines. It has to hurt knowing that you might not be able to save the ones you love with your own hands. At this point, he can only lead the others. RIP.
Yuno- Yuno’s feeling things right now. He didn’t say anything, but honestly I don’t blame him. He was supposed to be a reliable Vice Captain and he couldn’t do anything to save William. He’s still so young and I feel like he has too much on his table! I feel like Yuno’s gonna go through some major development. I can just feel it. How will Yuno deal with this despair? Will he be cooperative or would he try and do things alone? Hmmmm. I wonder what his reaction is going to be when he notices Asta’s arm. He would probably understand the risk Asta was willing to take to save Yami. But he’d probably still be worried…
I’m curious to see where things go from here! We now know what’s been going on in the Clover Kingdom, but I’d like to see how Noelle and Leopold are doing-! Not gonna lie, I’m actually enjoying all of this drama asdlkfjas. Things keep stacking up which makes this a lot more enjoyable to me! I’m so excited for next week’s chapter!!
Wow, I rambled a lot-! I should just stick to bullet points-! lmao

7 Comfort Movies thingy...
I was tagged by @drawing-way-outside-the-lines to do this...
Lets be honest a minute, shall we.  I don’t watch movies very often.  I can’t remember the last one.  Like literally.  Because I fell asleep 10 minutes in.  That’s how it is for me.  It doesn’t matter how good, loud, scary, interesting.  I call it “movie-narcolepsy” and I can’t help it.  The only way I can get through a movie is if I am doing something. But that means I’m not watching the movie fully.
So... These are movies I remember liking for various reasons.  Some are mental candy and some more thought-y. Some are not really comforting (welcome to my disquietude)  I’m pretty shallow though... reasons... don’t get your hopes up...
Oh and before we get to it.... I tag ALL Y’ALL.  Yes, you over there. DO. IT. All of your friends are.  Blame me.
The Fifth Element
Tumblr media
Do you really need me to describe it? Seriously? You know the movie in all it’s campy splendor.  Gary Oldman, Bruce Willis, Chris Tucker and some other people... But Gary Oldman.  Did I mention Gary Oldman???  Cuz, Jean Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg.  Come on. Seriously.  The Man.
Delicatessen
Tumblr media
Probably need to give a blurb on this one... Probably not gonna know it.
"Post-apocalyptic surrealist black comedy about the landlord of an apartment building who occasionally prepares a delicacy for his odd tenants."
It was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet... you would probably recognize his other film, Amélie, which is good too... but... THIS ONE.
(SPOILER: It’s a comedy about cannibalism..)
A Clockwork Orange
Tumblr media
Maybe, maybe not need a description here... It’s an oldie.  But it’s Kubrick. And Iconic.  So yeah.
"A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 dystopian crime film adapted, produced, and directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on Anthony Burgess's novel A Clockwork Orange. It employs disturbing, violent images to comment on psychiatry, juvenile delinquency, youth gangs, and other social, political, and economic subjects in a dystopian near-future Britain."
Okay... not really “comforting” in the classic definition.  No spirit uplifting, but if that is what you are looking for... you shouldn’t have tagged me, I’d imagine.  But I will watch it again and again.
Gattaca
Tumblr media
Another maybe ya heard of it, maybe not. Jude Law, who I like but can never remember his name and I have to do a 6 degrees of who the f*** starting with Ewen McGregor in Eye of the Beholder, working sideways through The Talented Mr. Ripley and  landing here.  Don’t as me why.. but that’s how I get to this one. I can’t remember shit.
"In the not-too-distant future, a less-than-perfect man wants to travel to the stars. Society has categorized Vincent Freeman as less than suitable given his genetic make-up and he has become one of the underclass of humans that are only useful for menial jobs. To move ahead, he assumes the identity of Jerome Morrow, a perfect genetic specimen who is a paraplegic as a result of a car accident."
The antithesis of “comforting”.  Its fucking soul shatteringly depressing to me.  I am destroyed every time I watch it. Oh, sure, he goes to space... but THE FURNACE SCENE. OMFG. I die. GUTTED.
Titus
Tumblr media
Oh, you probably aren’t gonna know this one... but ya should. My favorite Shakespeare play...  Anthony Hopkins, Jessica Lange and Alan Cumming. Mmmm hmmm.  (And Arya Stark's scene in GoT where she cooks the Freys into pies... Guess where they lifted that from...)
"Adaptation of Shakespeare's `Titus Andronicus', an epic revenge tragedy of brutal savagery based in Roman times. Titus the general returns to Rome victorious and decides to sacrifice the son of his enemy, the Goths, to appease the Roman dead. After the Queen of Goths pleads for her son's life to no avail, she sets out on a mission of retaliation that leaves few of the participants unscathed."
And now back to campy goodness... My favorite flavor of mental candy.  I’m not even going to describe them.. cuz you have to know these ?!?!?!?!? I mean RIGHT?
Serenity
Tumblr media
(Firefly not that other thing that came out later with the same name...) Arguably I like the TV series better.  And Jayne! THE HAT!  So many good quotes...
Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army (2008)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, both of them.  And not that new re-make of it.  Ron Perlman. FIGHT ME.  And Guillermo del Toro.  I didn’t care for Pan’s Labyrinth (reasons) but Hellboy 2.. the creatures.  Loved the creatures.
BONUS ROUND: Tom Hiddleston
Tumblr media
Okay, so not a movie.  But HIDDLES!   And, sorry, babydoll.  Your movies don’t make the cut because I didn’t like any of them I actually saw (but Loki!!! LOKI OMG. I feel asleep 5 minutes into that one... Avenger something or other where he was in it?  And I startled awake right when he first shows up and i was obsessed from then on but when he wasn’t on screen... Zzzzz), But then I haven’t seen all of his movies.  And I’m afraid that the good ones are going to crush me.  So I don’t watch...
CUZ SOMEBODY TELL ME - DOES THE HORSE DIE IN WAR HORSE?!  I can’t even. NO. I don’t want to know.  Don’t tell me.
And see. What did I tell you. Shallow end of the pool.... Heartbreaking.

Fave/Least Fave: 17 Hero!
Hmmm.... this is tough because there are so many fighting it out for the top...
Fave: In news that surprises no one, Obi-Wan Kenobi come on down!!
Dashing, flirtatious, ruthlessly capable and almost illegally attractive Obi-Wan won my heart the Phantom Menace in that heartbreaking scene with The Glacier Who Behaves Badly and Tiny Precious Golden Bean Ani and he then proceeded to keep winning it with each new appearance, from Attack of the Clones, to the Clone Wars, to... That Movie We’re Not Going To Talk About Because REASONS. It didn’t happen okay? My jedi babies and their clones are fine OKAY??
Okay so after trying to write the second paragraph like six times without bawling about a TELEKINETIC SPACE MONK WHO WEARS KNOCK OFF EILEEN FISHER (You can’t unsee that now.) I’m going to end with Obi-Wan Kenobi is awesome and we need more people in the world like him.
And he has cute dimples and a sexy lupine grin.
Least: SNAP WEXLEY
First of all, WHO NAMES THEIR KID SNAP? No, I don’t care if there’s a canon reason for this and you will see as you journey with me on this detour into irrational haterade.
Second of all, not unlike Guillermo del Toro (totally had to google that) and Doug Jones, JJ Abrams put Greg Grunberg in EVERY. SINGLE. GODDAMNED. THING. HE. DOES.
EVERY*. SINGLE. THING. EVERY*. SINGLE. TIME.
And whenever I see Snap Wexley I don’t think, “Oh hey! It’s a Rebel pilot! I wonder how he’s going to blow up?” Much in the same way I think about Arfour units around Obi-Wan.
I think...
“Well there’s the Obligatory Greg Grunberg cameo. Why does JJ do this? At least Guillermo del Toro covers Doug Jones in fifty pounds of latex and silicone so you never know it’s him. I really didn’t like it when JJ did this in that third Star Trek movie and hey! Doug Jones was in Star Trek too! I wonder if we could get him in Star Wars? OOOO! Can Doug Jones be in the Mandalorian? COULD GUILLERMO DEL TORO DIRECT AN EPISODE OF THE MANDALORIAN???
I am an easily distract Fishy.
“Wait. Hold up. Did JJ just blow up his buddy Greg Grunberg? Holy Crap! He did!”
And then I was happy he was gone and I could go back to wondering who was piloting all of those star destroyers.
WAS IT CLONES PALPATINE? WHERE IS CODY? DID YOU FREEZE CODY AND USE HIM AS A NEW BASE FOR THE CLONES THAT WERE PILOTING YOUR FROZEN FLEET OF DEATH STAR TOTING STAR DESTROYERS? WHY ARE YOU HIDING CODY FROM MEEEEE?
WHERE IS CODY DAMN IT??? WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM??? YOU CAN’T STICK HIM IN CLONE WARS AND MAKE ME CARE ABOUT HIM AND THEN JUST VANISH HIM INTO THE CHAOS OF THE RISE OF THE EMPIRE.
THE PEOPLE me DEMAND CLOSURE or a cameo in the Kenobi series NOW!
Thanks for the ask!
*-I have not seen every piece of work JJ Abrams has done so I cannot confirm the truth of my statement but I feel it deep in my bones that the essence of the statement is true.
Also, stop letting Greg Grunberg pilot fictional aviation vehicles. They always end up crashing or exploding.

A Decade of Horror Recommendations: Millennium Edition
After my 2010s horror recs post, @comicreliefmorlock asked me to do some for older films. So I figured I’d just work my way backward.
The lists might get a bit shorter and less diverse as I go back in time as I’m not as well-versed in older horror films, but I’ll toss out some recommendations for what I’ve seen and maybe some will be new to you anyway :)
Long post under the cut!
2000: A Surprisingly Good Year for Horror
Maybe we don’t think of the Y2K year as a big one for the horror genre, but it was still riding the tail end of the slasher/teen horror revival. Some must-sees:
Final Destination: I’ve written pretty extensively about this movie and it’s no surprise that I like it a lot, even if the sequels get downright ridiculous. The original still stands on its own feet.
Ginger Snaps: Maybe one of the best werewolf movies, period. Smart writing and a strong female cast as an added bonus.
American Psycho: Did you know this came out in 2000? I honestly always thought it was older, somehow, maybe because by the time I watched it in college it seemed like everyone had seen it. Fun fact: did you know it was directed by a woman?
What Lies Beneath: Part psychological horror, part drama-thriller, and sporting a surprisingly A-list cast. It has some well-worn tropes, but it’s a solid watch.
Battle Royale: Speaking of movies that seem like they’re way older than they are, did you know Battle Royale only came out in the year 2000?
There were a smattering of Asian imports in 2000 but none of them quite got their feet under them. I will make a shout-out/honorable mention here for Blood: The Last Vampire, an anime film that’s pretty well-known and gets referenced a lot.
2001: The Beginning of the End (for a little while)
Some solid stand-alone titles came out this year, but it also was the start of when the 90s revival started to dwindle down, I feel, with plenty of disappointments to go around. Scary Movie didn’t help much (and it also launched a whole trend of really awful spoof movies, which tried real hard to kill the comedy genre for a long time, imo). Anyway, some recs!
Jeepers Creepers: The director is an unfortunate sack of shit, but the movie is quite good. The first part, which draws heavily from a true story, is especially chilling.
Thirteen Ghosts: An underrated gem. The plot twists too much for my liking, but the ghost designs are super cool and the whole concept of the house is neat. A+ for originality.
The Devil’s Backbone: Maybe my favorite Guillermo Del Toro film, and a damn good ghost story to boot.
Suicide Club: A Japanese import that feels a bit ahead of its time in terms of pop culture (and internet culture especially). Features a couple of squick-heavy scenes I still struggle to watch (but, like, in a good way).
Ichi the Killer: Another Japanese import and my introduction to Takashi Miike, who makes me more viscerally uncomfortable than just about anyone.
It’s also probably worth mentioning From Hell, the Johnny Depp movie about Jack the Ripper, which many people enjoyed. I personally strongly dislike the film for reasons I can’t fully explain.
2002: Wait, That’s When That Movie Came Out?
I feel like 2002 was a big year for me in the “movies I enjoy but didn’t watch until years later” department, probably because I was a teenager with minimal access to decent cinema. It was also a rocking good year for Japanese horror.
28 Days Later: A movie that brought about the return of zombies in a big way, and also introduced (or at least popularized) fast zombies. Also it’s super scary.
May: I don’t even know if May counts as horror, but it’s a dark, quirky movie that I try to make everyone watch because I love it so much.
Ghost Ship: Honestly the bulk of the movie is pretty forgettable, but the opening scene is one of my favorite moments in gory cinematic history.
Signs: M. Night Shyamalan’s last decent movie or his first shitty one, depending on who you ask. I liked it a lot when I first watched it, and it started to fall apart more and more as I got older.
Ju-On: The Grudge: One of the better-known Japanese horrors and one whose tropes still get referenced and re-used. Skip the 2004 remake and watch the original trilogy.
The Ring: Probably the best-known Japanese horrors and maybe the import that put “Japanese horror” into public consciousness.
There was a lot of shlocky dreck in 2002, some of it decent (Cabin Fever) and some of it downright awful (Pinata: Survival Island/Demon Island). I should also mention Red Dragon, based on Thomas Harris’s novel of the same name, which quite a few people liked (I’ve only seen it once but I recall being underwhelmed). Also an honorable mention to Dog Soldiers, which I have not seen but which I hear frequently recommended as an A+ werewolf film.
2003: Wow that’s a lot of dreck
Look fam nobody said these film recs would be objective. There were a ton of horror movies that came out in 2003, I just didn’t really like hardly any of them. Some exceptions:
Willard: The movie that made me want to start keeping rats as pets, which says more about me than it does the film. It’s a great movie, though, the first thing I ever saw Crispin Glover in (and god, he’s amazing), and one of the few films that I think is better than the book.
Identity: A pretty decent psychological horror starring John Cusack. Watch this and 1408 together as a double-feature for maximum fun factor.
House of 1000 Corpses: Look, if you’re reading this blog, you probably already have an opinion one way or another of Rob Zombie. The movie’s on the list because it’s arguably historically important, not because it’s objectively good.
A few other notable moments from 2003 included a Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (just watch the original, but if you insist on a remake, this is one of the better ones), the second Final Destination film (the last good one in the franchise), the Jeepers Creepers sequel, Freddy vs Jason, Darkness Falls, and Dreamcatcher. Like I said, there were lots of movies that came out this year, I just don’t think they were very good.
2004: Oops we created torture porn
I was in college at this point, which meant I was watching less horror than at any other moment in my life (I had a roommate who really hated scary movies) so maybe that’s why I haven’t heard of the majority of movies that came out that year. Or maybe they were all just really bad, hence why I still haven’t seen them. Hmmm. But! A few shining stars:
Saw: Obviously a classic. I’m lukewarm about the franchise, but the original is an excellent film and well worth watching, especially given the impact it would have on the next many years of horror cinema.
Shaun of the Dead: Hilarious, and honestly one of my favorite zombie films of all time.
Dumplings: A Korean important you likely missed in 2004 but may have seen in a Three Extremes compilation. Well worth the watch if you’re not squeamish.
Otherwise 2004 was pretty lackluster. Some forgettable franchise installments, some shlocky creature features, some unnecessary remakes. Lots of titles I’m unfamiliar with, though, too, so somebody tell me if I missed a big one that year!
2005: Ehhhh
Just a couple important titles this year too:
Hostel: Not a great movie. In fact, pretty damn campy. But an important one to watch to understand the torture porn genre.
The Devil’s Rejects: See above re: House of 1000 Corpses. Hit or miss but a well-liked film by Rob Zombie fans.
And  you know what, I think that’s actually it. I mean there were other movies -- a remake of The Fog,  the infinitely predictable Hide and Seek, the second Saw installment, and of course Doom. But it just wasn’t a great year for horror, imo. One shout-out here though for Wolf Creek, which is on my to-watch list; I haven’t seen it so I can’t vouch for it, but it does get recommended to me a lot.
2006: Mostly more of the same
Did we seriously have a Saw movie every year in the 2000s or what? No wonder everybody got sick of them and thought all horror was torture porn for a while. Talk about market saturation.
Anyway, some shout-outs:
Stay Alive: This movie is ridiculous, but I love it a lot. It’s about a video game that kills you in real life, and is a more successful video game movie than most actual adaptations.
ReCycle: An Asian import. I missed this one entirely when it came out, but it’s one of my favorites to have discovered in later years. It’s a seriously cool movie, both fanciful and deeply uncomfortable. Content warning for abortion, but it’s not what you think.
Otherwise, just some mostly soulless remakes (The Omen, The Hills Have Eyes, The Wicker Man), some franchise installments (Saw III, Final Destination 3, The Grudge 2). I will give an honorable mention to Black Sheep, which is so-bad-it’s-good ridiculous, and to that cult favorite Slither.
2007: Wait, is horror getting good again?
Well, not quite, but we’re back on the map with some promising additions in a year where the genre seemed to be struggling to rediscover its identity:
The Mist: One of the better Stephen King adaptations.
30 Days of Night: A divisive entry in the canon, but a pretty interesting piece to study for anyone interested in vampires.
28 Weeks Later: Not exactly a direct sequel to the earlier 28 Days Later, and probably not as good of a film, but pretty good in its own right.
1408: Watch this one with Identity (see above) and enjoy a night of John Cusack going crazy in hotel rooms.
The Orphanage: One of my favorite horror films of all time, both deeply unsettling and agonizingly sad.
Paranormal Activity: The highest-grossing film of all time thanks to its low budget. Also what we can blame for the burst of popularity in the “found footage” style.
Dead Silence: A movie that still frequently gets recommended and delivers some solid spooks. I’m not as fond of it as a lot of people, but it deserves a mention for how often it gets referenced (and for playing “killer ventriloquist dummies” straight as a trope).
Trick r Treat: A Halloween classic.
Of course the year brought us another Saw and another Hostel, a contentious Halloween reboot, another stab at I Am Legend (often adapted, rarely well), and a smattering of other sequels. I have not seen The Girl Next Door but based on how rarely I hear it recommended compared to the book, I imagine I’m not missing much. Borderlands was OK but, for my money, forgettable. Oh, there was also Grindhouse, a double feature which I quite enjoyed (I saw it in theaters, where it came with a warning for length, which I found amusing) but which history does not seem to have remembered positively.
2008: Did Somebody Order a Recession?
Back to slim pickings, although I admittedly have not seen most of the films released that year (I was pretty damn broke in 2008, so maybe that’s why). Still:
Let the Right One In: Skip the later English remake, you cowards, and watch this with subtitles. It’s so good. SO GOOD. An unexpected twist on the vampire story, and kind of a romance to boot. Sort of. In a really messed up way.
Cloverfield: A couple things are neat about Cloverfield. One, it was an early adopter and trope-setter for found-footage movies. Two, it successfully spawned a franchise where none of the movies feel related at all. Three, it launched with some really cool viral marketing that was utterly ahead of its time. On the downside, the shaky cam may in fact make you vomit if you get seasick easily.
Repo! The Genetic Opera: A classic. Also may in fact be the only film of its kind, or at least the only rock-opera scifi-horror that comes to mind.
I haven’t seen Pontypool, though it’s on my watch-list -- I’ve heard it’s quite good. Ditto Tokyo Gore Police which delivers, to my understanding, exactly what it says on the tin. Speaking of movies I didn’t see, can we take a moment to appreciate that a film called “Sauna” with the tagline “cleanse your sins” came out this year? Jfk 2008, are you OK?
2009: Why are all the best horrors comedies this year
It really does become obvious just how much the genre was floundering to figure out what it was doing the latter half of the decade, because the movies are so weirdly hit-or-miss. I do have some favorite hidden gems, though, alongside a couple well-known recs:
Zombieland: A genuinely funny feel-good zombie comedy-horror, feeding right into a growing cultural fascination with zombies.
Jennifer’s Body: Is this a comedy? Is this a horror? What is this? I’m not sure how to classify it but I sure do like it.
Antichrist: Ok I don’t know if this is a recommendation per se, but if I had to watch this with my own eyes, I’m making y’all watch it too. Have you ever wondered what it might look like to watch a filmmaker have a psychotic break while making a movie? That’s almost literally what this film is.
The Human Centipede: This is a cop-out because I have not watched these movies and I in fact refuse to watch these movies because the premise is fucking stupid, but I will acknowledge the historical, ah, importance? of this film in the greater scheme of 21st century horror.
Dread: One of my favorite movies, and the film I recommend to anyone who wants to watch a torture film done right. I love the shit out of this movie. Please go watch this movie.
Grace: Deeply disturbing and pulling approximately zero punches. It’s one of the best films to tread the “horrors of motherhood” territory, which is saying something because that’s very fertile (ha, ha) ground.
I actually have not seen Drag Me to Hell or The Last House on the Left, although people have recommended both to me. Anyone want to chime in with how good they might be? I also want to make a shout-out to Daybreakers, which I feel like nobody ever talks about but which actually has one of the most fascinating vampire concepts I’ve ever seen on film. The movie itself is kind of boring and forgettable, but the idea is really neat.
And that wraps up my journey through the 2000s in horror. Next decade: The 90s, coming right up!

A Different Kind Of Talk
(@armanda-lucia-salazar I am operating as though this is a separate universe. I own Sofía, but in this story, she’s an only child. Not that something happened to Carolina, just operating with my own OC cause I wanted to experiment with something. Also, in this story Sofía is 9, not 5)
Guillermo Lesaro was experiencing something that was not common for him, and he wasn’t sure if he could handle it if things didn’t go well. He was scared. He hated feeling scared, weak or helpless.
He had arranged things carefully and meticulously, but... he was still terrified that it would all be for nothing. It had to go perfectly.
But, the worst part was that there was a lot about this he couldn’t control. He couldn’t make anyone be happy about this, but he couldn’t bare the thought of anyone hating each other either.
“Are you alright Gui?” Armando asked from the seat next to him. He looked at Lesaro with concern written across his features. “Y-yes, I’m... I’m just a little nervous is all.” Mando just smiled at him, “Oh come now, it will be fine. I don’t see how this could possibly go wrong.”
Lesaro groaned. Why did he have to say that. Now something was definitely going to go wrong!
They arrived at Lesaro’s house a few minutes later, and they climbed out of the carriage. As soon as the carriage began to pull away, the door to the house opened and Sofía came running out to greet him. Even with his nerves, Lesaro couldn’t help the smile that crossed his face as he leaned down and returned the hug.
“Welcome home, daddy! How was your trip? Who’s this man? Is he a friend from work? Did you kill a lot of pirates? I missed you so much!” Guillermo just laughed! She was such an energetic child, always had been.
“You’ve met him before mija. The trip was long, but successful. We killed many pirates!” He picked her up with a bit of effort as he spoke. Reminded that his daughter was still growing every day, even if he wasn’t here to watch it happen.
“This is my friend, Armando. Don’t you remember? He is the Capitán of the ship I work on. Can you say hello?” “Oh, right! Hi! Nice to see you again.” Armando was grinning like an idiot and fighting a laugh at her infectious energy, but didn’t forget his manners. With a little bow, he answered, “Well, hello there niña. It is very nice to see you again.”
His bow earned a giggle from Sofía, and a smile from her father. “Alright, let’s go inside shall we? Dinner shouldn’t be too long and I’m getting too old to be carrying you around mija.”
Armando didn’t bother to hide his laughter this time and it quickly got he and Sofía laughing too. Thankfully, Armando was more than happy to keep Sofía entertained while Guillermo went upstairs to unpack. He came back downstairs to find them playing very well together. The sight was so endearing that he ended up stopping partway down the stairs just to take it in a little longer.
Soon after though, dinner was ready and they all sat down to eat.
Much of dinner was spent hearing what Sofía had been up to since he was last at home. Every now and then he’d catch little glances from Armando that bordered on impatience, but he tried to ignore them. He understood why, and knows Armando is right; he shouldn’t keep stalling, but...
Instead he decides to continue the conversation with Sofía out of genuine interest and manners, ...at least, that’s what he told himself. Really, he was just afraid to start the conversation Armando was waiting for.
After dinner, Sofía ran upstairs to grab a painting she had made while her Papi had been away. As soon as she left the room, Armando turned to Lesaro and gave him a stern but sad look. “Gui? Are you ever going to tell her?”
Lesaro looked away from his gaze in shame. “I-I will, it’s just... what... what if she’s not happy about it?” Mando’s gaze turned sympathetic and he reached across the table to hold Lesaro’s hand. “We will never know, if we never ask her, querido.”
Smiling, Lesaro lets out a sigh, “Sí, Mando, I know you are right. I’m just... scared...” “Of what? A 9-year old?” “Yes. Wait! No! That’s not-...ughhhh.” Armando chuckles. “You aren’t helping.” “I know, I’m sorry. Look, Gui. I know you are scared, but I promise you it will be okay. Do you want me to leave the room when you tell her? Or do you want me to stay?”
“I-I don’t know... I’m not sure if-“ “Papiiii!” Lesaro quickly retracted his hand from Armando’s and put on a smile for his little princess. “Hello there mija! What a lovely painting that is!”
After about 15 minutes, Armando ran out of patience and decided to play dirty. “Sofía, your father has something he wants to talk to you about.” He eyes Lesaro’s now terrified face with his calm, but smug one.
Before anything can be said, he leaves the room so he has no other option, but to talk to her.
“What do you want to talk about?” Her eyes are big and full of happy curiosity as she eagerly waits for his answer.
After taking a deep, shaky breadth, he turns to look at her. “Y-yes, I-... Mija, do you... what do you think of Armando?”
She tilts her head and pauses a moment before speaking, “I like him. He’s nice and has a fun laugh. Why?”
“W-well... what would you say if I told you, that, I like him too?” “Well, it wouldn’t make sense if you were friends and didn’t like him.” “N-no mija...” he takes a very deep breadth. “I... love Armando... and... I would like him to stay and... be a part of our family... you... you could have a second padre... what... what do you say?”
At first, she’s confused. Slowly, recognition seeps in and her little eyes go wide in understanding. “Ooohhhh... hmmm...”
As Sofía collects her thoughts and tries to further comprehend what her father just told her, she unknowingly makes her father very anxious. As he waits, he delves into his own thoughts and starts to fear the worst.
“Okay.” “Wait! What-what did you say, mija?” “I said ‘okay’.” “Okay...what?” “You asked me what I say to him being a second padre, and I said ‘okay’. I would like that.”
Guillermo’s heart stopped, and, for a moment, he completely stopped breathing. Did she just say ‘yes’. He had no idea what to do now. He’d spent days thinking about what to do if she said she wasn’t okay with it. Thinking over all the possible reasons she would be uncomfortable and how to change her mind, but, now,... what was he supposed to do? He was completely unprepared for this turn of events.
“Papi? Are you okay?” Without a response from Guillermo, she asked louder, “Papi?! Papi answer me!” “Guillermo? What’s going on in here?” “I don’t know. He won’t answer.”
Armando suddenly came into his field of view and shook him lightly. Eventually, he ended up having to lightly smack him to snap him out of his trance.
“Ah! A-Armando? What-?” “Are you alright, Gui?” “Y-yes I-“ then he remembered why he’d been frozen and he tackled Armando in a crushing hug, “She said yes, Mando! She said Yes!!”
“W-what?... she-? She did? Amor! That’s Wonderful!” Immediately Armando was kissing Guillermo fervently, barely giving him any chance to breathe.”
“Ummmm... Papi?” Quickly, he pulled away from Mando, earning him an eye roll from the other man, and remembered the little 9-year-old was still in the room. “Oh! Ummm... sorry Cariño.” Lesaro couldn’t look her in the eyes, a light blush dusting his face in embarrassment.
He only looked at her again when he heard her giggling, “Wow, Papi. You really do like him!”
Armando barked out a laugh and couldn’t seem to stop. The situation too happy, too wonderful for words. Soon, Guillermo and Sofía were joining him.
All the anxiety Guillermo had been building for the past week or so was completely gone now. His mind finally free to ponder the wonderful future that awaited them.
Sitting up, Lesaro held a hand out to his little girl, “Come here, mija. Come give your new Papi a hug.” Armando easily hoisted the little girl into his arms and, shouldering her to one side, used his now free arm to pull Lesaro into the hug as well.
Armando ended up staying the night, and Guillermo had never slept so peacefully in his life. Everything was just... perfect.

stumbled across your wwdits art—so cute! it also reminded me that sylvia de la cruz is also a vampire hunter by blood. in fact, iirc not only is the entire family, but none of them have...told guillermo?? (aside from at the dinner w nadja, but she hypnotized them to forget that.) and we know sylvia knows nandor's a vampire because she did try to stake him at the end there—though notably not until after guillermo pulled one out! which brings me to the funniest possible conclusion, which is that she took one look at nandor, felt los goosebumps, took a second look, saw his big bleeding heart, and went "we'll have to work on my son's taste in men but i'll let him have this. hi nandor not-a-vampire, wanna see baby photos?"
anyways. i really do wonder why no one's ever told guillermo about the old ancestral vampire hunting. did they just see him full iwtv at halloween age 10 and call an emergency meeting like "the first person to say something before he grows out of it gets staked" and then he never grew out of it.
LOL I mean it was kinda vague with how much la familia consciously KNEW - only abuela specifically said anything before they all went feral and seemed to know what los goosebumps meant - Miguel and his mom were both very confused by their physical reactions. i think abuela does call Nadja "chupasangre" (bloodsucker) but everyone else sticks to "demonio," "monstruo," "maldita" over and over like they're hypnotized, and only jump into action after abuela stands up and says smth like "monstruo debe de morir" (monster must die). There does seem to be a bit of a delay in their reaction as well, as they were dining with Nadja for at least like 20 mins before snapping, and Silvia didn't react to Nandor for probably like....hmmm. If Guillermo was bat-flying from Staten Island to the Bronx (like 15-odd miles as the crow flies), he could've been there with her for like 30-60 mins depending on how fast Guillermo can fly. Technically since I hc him as a mexican freetailed bat he can go up to 99mph but probably not for more than a few seconds, avg speed in a hurry would probably be more like 15-30mph. But let me not turn this into another 'bean talks about bats at length' moment.
Anyway I feel like la familia at large isn't fully conscious of their slayer heritage enough to really talk openly about it, like they either don't really know the specifics or pretend not to. Like it's very mythologized and entwined with their religion so just like 'yeah we stand up against evil, thats just catholicism!' but never 'vampires exist and we hunt them.' They just follow the traditions that have been passed down (wear your cross, eat your garlic; why? idk its just what we do) and follow the orders of their matriarch. Nadja may very well be the first vampire they've encountered! Guillermo also hypnotized Silvia at the end there and told her"no es peligroso" - "he's not dangerous" - which could have some very fun side effects. He very well may have made her forget again or she may just be cool about Nandor specifically now lmao.

This utter self-indulgence has been sitting in a word doc for days. I have no idea how Tony commentary and livestreams work and none of these reporters would be talking this much about a nominee and his “friend/date” but honestly whatever, it was a delight to write. I know nothing about Peer Gynt either, so all that commentary is probably woefully wrong. It just fit with the timeline. This fic was not written with accuracy in mind so suspend your disbelief for a bit. It was meant to be at least somewhat serious but somewhere along the way became a parody of social media eh.
LITERALLY I CANNOT WITH THIS FIC. I WOULD READ 80 DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF TONY NIGHT LIKE THIS AND 80 DIFFERENT RED CARPETS WITH THESE TWO AHHHHHHHH

Lane and McArdle were co-stars in the 2017 National Theatre production of Angels in America and both were involved in the 2018 Broadway Transfer. Warm smiles all around.
MT: Andrew Garfield is not far behind McArdle in greeting in Lane. Curious that Garfield is in attendance tonight. He is not nominated for anything this year and isn’t presenting, but there is Oscar buzz for his performance in Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming project.
MR: Garfield and McArdle have remained close friends since working together in 2018. They have both become regulars at each other’s premieres and performances.
emily @bwaystan  DID ANYONE SEE IF JAMES ARRIVED WITH ANDREW? he’s wearing blue but cant find any pictures of the guy who got out of the car with james so annoying

MR: Thanks for the fashion update, Michael. Back to the Red Carpet interviews. James McArdle is now reaching the step and repeat. Michael, care to tell us about what he’s wearing?
MT: Sources tell us McArdle is wearing Versace tonight and looking very dapper in it. Dark blue seems to be his signature at these events.
MR: And here comes Michael Arden with husband Andy Mientus on his arm. Tell us about what they’re wearing, Michael.
TONYS TONIGHT @jamesmcardles  JAMES KILLED THE STEP AND REPEAT LOOK AT HIM IM SO EMOTIONAL [Attached: Three photos of James, looking stunning in deep cobalt blue with hair artfully disheveled]

MT: Garfield has gone off to make small talk and McArdle is finishing up his photos, making his way to the gaggle of reporters clambering for an interview with the actor.
MR: Is it me or does he look somewhat surprised at how many people want to talk to him?
MT: He definitely does, Michael. McArdle of course looked criminally handsome at the step and repeat but you can tell he is not yet accustomed to this attention. Just another reason why he’s so likable.
MR: McArdle sidesteps reporters to rejoin Garfield, who has been standing off to the side chatting with good friend Carey Mulligan, who is presenting tonight.
MT: Garfield dutifully kisses McArdle on the cheek in a show of support. It seems McArdle and Mulligan have met before, judging by their familiar greeting.
MR: Ah, Ben Platt has arrived. He’ll be presenting… [Goes on to discuss other arrivals]
TONYS TONIGHT @jamesmcardles  DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THAT CHEEK KISS??
emily @bwaystan  y’all know I’m not one for conspiracy theories…but andrew and james are awfully cuddly tonight…
Vanity Fair @VanityFair  Watch our interview with Best Leading Actor in a Play nominee, James McArdle, on the Tonys Red Carpet. [Attached: Video, James standing with reporter in crowd on the Red Carpet] Transcript of Vanity Fair Interview: Interviewer: Congratulations on your nomination, James! JM: Thank you, thank you. Interviewer: How does it feel to be here at the Tony’s with a nomination? JM: Well, I try not to bog myself down with awards and all that, focus on the work. But it does feel brilliant to have the recognition, I’m very grateful the play is getting the attention it deserves. The cast and crew is truly just so talented and they work so hard, so I’m very pleased that this is all happening. Interviewer: You’re based in Glasgow still, correct? How does it feel to live in New York again? JM: Much better than it did last time, to be quite honest. I’m stayi—I’ve got a nicer apartment now, I made the mistake of living uptown last time. Downtown is calmer, to me. I don’t like the crowded streets, the smell, eurgh. Interviewer: Thinking about staying longterm? JM: [Laughs but does not answer the question] Interviewer: What do you like about New York? JM: Well, often I’m really here for the people, or specific people. I do like the anonymity you get in a crowd here. And the food! So much cheap food everywhere. Hazardous to my health, but… Interviewer: You’ve attended the Tonys once before, yes? JM: [Nods] [Behind him, Andrew appears, whispering something in his ear. James grins and says something back, his hand over his mouth. The interviewer watches, rapt.] Interviewer: What’s changed between now and then, apart from the obvious? McArdle: [Clearly distracted] Umm…Well…Sorry, what was the question? Interviewer: Does it feel different to be here now with a nomination than before when you were not nominated, in what felt to many like a mistake? McArdle: Oh, it absolutely feels different. Lots more attention on me now, which is something to adjust to. I try to keep my head down, do my work, but with all the cameras and everything…Well, it’s a lot. Last time, it was more relaxed, I wasn’t in the spotlight. I quite enjoyed the parts where there weren’t cameras in my face. Interviewer: [Laughs] Well then, one more question before you go, so we don’t keep this camera in your face for too long. Any advice for struggling, aspiring actors and actresses? JM: Don’t take roles because they’ll make you famous, take roles that mean something. Of course, sometimes you’ve got to take roles because a role is a role and you need rent. I’ve done that a lot through my career. But once you have the privilege of choice, prioritize the work, not the career. Interviewer: Thanks so much, and good luck tonight! James: [Absentminded, already turning away to talk to Andrew] Thank you!
TONYS TONIGHT @jamesmcardles  lol did anyone see that vanity fair interview? james was so out of it, whats up w him lmao?
tony night!! @mcarfields  @jamesmcardles andrew was totally distracting him, what did he say to him?
prior walter stan @andygarfields  andrew and james look sooooo good tonight holy shit?? and what did andrew say to james in that interview, can anyone read lips?
emily @bwaystan  ok someone has to find out what andrew was saying to james I’m dying of curiosity!
Andrew Garfield Source @agarfieldsource  Andrew has yet to have an interview, but he did crash James McArdle’s interview with Vanity Fair, though we can’t determine what he said to James.
TONYS TONIGHT @jamesmcardles  also, anyone else notice how james didn’t answer when they asked if he was staying in nyc longterm? hmmm…
MT: I hate to bring up the dreaded internet, but it seems that Twitter has blown up with speculation about Andrew Garfield and James McArdle since Garfield interrupted McArdle’s interview and distracted McArdle quite noticeably. Questions about the nature of their friendship have been raised over the past two years, but have never been taken very seriously.
MR: Garfield has hinted that he is perhaps not straight in several articles this year, including one with OUT Magazine, but has yet to confirm anything explicitly.
MT: Looks like a new hashtag has surfaced tonight: #McArfield
MR: Moving away from rumors…
MT: Kelli O’Hara has arrived, looking gorgeous in red [Goes on to talk about O’Hara]
tony night!! @mcarfields  ok i slowed down some gifs from the vf interview, but still can’t tell what andrew said to him!
emily @bwaystan  @mcarfields wait is that james blushing?
tony night!! @mcarfields  @bwaystan YES I THINK IT IS
emily @bwaystan  @mcarfields WHAT DID ANDREW SAY
tony night!! @mcarfields  @bwaystan lets make #WhatDidAndrewSay trend tonight lol
BroadwayWorld @BroadwayWorld  Eight times James McArdle stopped our hearts at the Tony’s Red Carpet [Attached: link to article including various pictures of James looking incredibly handsome on the Red Carpet]
Entertainment Weekly @EW  Surprised to see Andrew Garfield at the Tony Awards tonight? So were we! Check out our interview with the Tony winner here. [Attached: video, Andrew on the Red Carpet with reporter] Transcript of EW interview: Interviewer: Andrew, good to see you here tonight! AG: Good to see you too, good to see you too… Interviewer: Last time we saw you at the Tony’s was when you were nominated for your performance as Prior Walter in the 2018 revival of Angels in America. What’s it like coming without the stress of a nomination? AG: Oh, well I was just happy and lucky enough to be nominated then, and I’m equally happy to be here now, supporting my—erm—friend James McArdle. Interviewer: You and James became friends during Angels, right? AG: We did, we did. That play really bonded us all together, I think we became a peculiar type of family, really. Of course, after it ended, we didn’t want to see each other ever again. [Laughs] But then after a bit of a break from each other, when we see each other again, it’s like we’re one big family. I love them all very much. And I’m really just so proud of James and so happy he’s getting the recognition he deserves. Interviewer: I’ll bet. Have you seen the show? AG: Oh yeah. I’ve seen it about five times now. It’s a truly amazing production. Interviewer: So, are you presenting anything tonight? AG: No, I’m not. Just here for support. Interviewer: You’re such a good friend. AG: [Laughs] Well, thank you, I suppose? Interviewer: No problem! What’s next for you? AG: Well, I’ve got Guillermo’s movie coming out soon and after that’s finished, I’d like to return to theater, so I’ve got a few things lined up. Interviewer: In New York? AG: Afraid I can’t say… Interviewer: Such a tease! AG: Sorry, sorry! It’s all very secret right now. But I am very excited for the project. Interviewer: What’s your one piece of advice for award shows, whether you’re nominated or not? AG: Eat! Eat lots of protein. There’s so much champagne at these things and you end up forgetting to eat and then it’s past midnight and you’re at the Carlyle and well…I won’t get into it. Interviewer: The afterparty is quite famous… AG: Oh it’s a good time. Interviewer: Are you going to attend? AG: Tonight? Who knows? As I get older, my energy for those things wanes…The person I’m seeing and I, we’re much more inclined towards dinner parties and movie nights now. It’s quite boring. Interviewer: You’re seeing someone? AG: [Nods, looks around] I am. Interviewer: Is it recent? AG: [Smiles at someone behind the camera] Not really. Interviewer: You don’t look like you’re going to tell us. AG: [Laughs] I probably won’t. Interviewer: [Laughs] That’s cruel! AG: I’m sorry! Interviewer: Well, I’ll pester you about it later. Have a good time tonight. AG: You too, thanks.
Andrew Garfield Source @agarfieldsource  CONFIRMED: Andrew is seeing somebody, it isn’t new, but he has yet to say who it is.
tony night!! @mcarfields  i cant be the only one who picked up on the lack of gender in andrew’s answer right?
MT: Andrew Garfield has created a bit of a stir tonight by admitting he’s in a relationship but has yet to say who it’s with.
MR: Looks like the guests are streaming into Radio City Music Hall now. The show starts in about ten minutes.

[Two photos of Andrew and James standing outside the IFC Theater, looking up at what was playing that night] All the times they were caught out and about in the city and we never realized they were on a date. 9. broadway.com @broadwaycom  Watch our exclusive post-Tony’s interview with James McArdle and Andrew Garfield. [Attached: Video, James with his arm slung around Andrew’s waist and Andrew leaning his head on James’s shoulder, both facing the interviewer with punch-drunk grins on their faces.] Transcript of Broadway.com Interview: Interviewer: So, you two made the headlines today with your confirmation that you’re dating. AG, JM: [Laugh] Interviewer: Did you plan to come out tonight? AG: Not tonight specifically… JM: [Turns to Garfield] We’ve talked about it. AG: [Looks right back] At length. JM: Yeah, we made sure we were ready, and then I heard my name called and Andrew looked at me and— AG: [Shrugs, still looking at McArdle] I had to kiss him. Interviewer: How long have you been together? JM: Two years this… [Pauses] AG: Sunday. Interviewer: Wow, that’s a long time. AG: It feels very long and very short, really. JM: Yeah… Interviewer: Have you put any thought to where you’re going to put your Tony, James? JM: Oh, Christ, no. I just got it! AG: It’ll look quite nicely next to mine. JM: A perfect pair. Interviewer: Andrew, you played an iconic gay character, Prior Walter, two years ago. Why come out now? AG: [Pauses] I know I could have come out earlier. I don’t think my career would have suffered. But it was something very personal to me, how I got to the place where I felt I could acknowledge and embrace those parts of myself. And of course, it coincided with being with James and we felt we wanted to keep this to ourselves for as long as we could. I do feel as though people feel entitled to know things about my personal life that ordinarily no one would really give a s*** about. But with this, if I can set an example to young LGBTQ actors, wherever they might be, then I want to do that. For a long time I fooled myself into thinking I didn’t owe anyone anything. But I do owe the community a lot and I was able to come out and I got to the place where I was comfortable, and I had a lovely boyfriend by my side and there was really no reason not to. James has just been so lovely through it all, I count on him in too many ways and I love him dearly for it. JM: Andrew’s really been very brave through it all. He lives a very high-profile life and we’re very aware of that. Trying to balance it all is just a part of life now and he does it so well. Interviewer: You two are adorable. AG: [Laughs] Yes, I think so. Interviewer: What’s next for you two Tony winners? JM: I just got mine, can’t I breathe? [Laughs] AG: After Peter Gynt closes, we’re going on a much needed vacation. We’ve both been incredibly busy this past year and because we’re both based in different cities, we’ve been moving around. It’s been lovely to have James here for so long. Interviewer: Any thoughts about staying in New York permanently, James? JM: [Turns to Andrew with a smile] We’ve discussed it. AG: Which is really saying something. If James is contemplating moving to New York, you know something’s up. [All laugh] Interviewer: We’d be very glad to have you. JM: Thank you. Interviewer: James, tell us about the moment you heard your named called. JM: Very surreal. I hadn’t really processed it, I heard my name and thought, oh that’s not me but then Andrew was standing and everyone was looking at me and I realized, well, f*** I won, I’ve got to go up there and make a speech. And then I saw Andrew, and suddenly we were telling everyone about us and I had won a Tony and had to go on stage and cobble together my thoughts. Of course, I promptly forgot everything I had thought to say. I can’t remember anything I said up there, actually. Could have all been rubbish but [Shrugs] no one’s said anything about me making an utter fool of myself so… AG: You were very articulate and poised. JM: See, I have him to remember if I cock everything up. AG: We make a great team. Interviewer: That you do. Well, congratulations on your much deserved win, James! JM: Thank you. Interviewer: Have a good night, you two!
AndrewGarfieldOfficial [Instagram post: two photos. The first: James accepting his Tony. The second, clearly taken the morning after: James seated at a kitchen table, his Tony sitting beside the plate of eggs before him, looking at the person behind the camera with an unmistakably loving look in his eye and a soft, bashful smile on his face] Caption: In case you were wondering, I am so in love with this Tony award winning idiot. We are a proud two-Tony household now!

okay for the sunny asks. 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18
3) what are your top 3 favorite episodes?THIS IS SO HARD BECAUSE ALL MY FAVOURITES TIE TOGETHER IN LIKE A LIST OF 10. hmmm not in any particular order but mac and dennis move to the suburbs because there’s just so much to analyse and take away from that episode about mac&den, also because i was just howling with laughter the entire time. the gang tends a bar, again, because there’s a lot to analyze from it and it makes me cry like a little bitch. and charlie work because i love charlie centered eps and it made me really happy to see him and all his hard work. also honourable mention to the gang goes to hell pt1&2 cause. yeah.6) name a song that reminds you of your favorite sunny shipBRO… HERE WE FUCKING GO I GUESS! i’m naming more than one again because i can’t decide ever. macdennis.season 2 episode 3 - glass animalsblowjob - e^stswimming pool - the front bottomsmaking love out of nothing - air supplyand literally just… all of falsettos/in trousers9) what’s your favorite kind of sunny fan content? (fanart, mixes, fic, etc.)i like mixes just because i really connect with music and it’s easier for me to understand feelings through the lyrics of songs, so relating a song to a character or a pairing really lets me understand them better and put myself in their head. i also just love meta and theories in general…. that shit riles me up and i believe over half of you owe me money for a new wig.12) who has been your favorite guest star on the show?DEFINITELY GUILLERMO DEL TORO WHEN HE PLAYED A MCPOYLE IN THE MAUREEN PONDEROSA WEDDING MASSACRE!!! 15) floppy hair or slicked back hair?it really really depends on who we’re talking about here. because when charlie slicks his hair back he fucking looks like reviewbrah. mac gets a pass because he’s hot with both floppy and slicked back hair. and i want to throw up at the thought of dennis with slicked back hair. um. frank looks bald with his hair slicked back but also his floppy hair makes him look like the lorax. and dee? if she slicked her hair back i’d go straight.18) what’s your favorite thing about sunny?i mainly just enjoy the fact that it’s SO DIFFERENT to other sitcoms, and rcg isn’t afraid to tackle literally anything. they make fun of the terrible people they’re representing and have the most obscure plot lines that you wouldn’t get in any other show. how many shows do you know where a closeted homophobic christian gay man slowly came to terms with his sexuality, accepted himself, and proudly came out? how many shows do you know that openly talk about trauma victims (charlie and dennis’ sexual assault), or show mental illness like dennis’ bpd? or just the whole gangs dynamic in general is so fucking wack like you are NEVER going to see a show about people like this who pull crazy schemes for a living. and the cast themselves are just such lovely, amazing, talented, creative, and fucking HILARIOUS people i have ever seen. i’m very bad at wording or explaining myself and i’m sure there’s a lot more i want to say on why i like the show but i can’t put my thoughts into words djhjubr. anyway. it’s dumb and unique and makes me laugh harder than literally anything i’ve ever seen.

When me and my brother got told we were going to Disney Land Paris. Our parents took us to Pizza Express and I don’t think I’d ever felt so happy! Mickey Mouse! I still have the picture of my blotchy red face squished up to him in a hug! It’s cheesy but for 6 year old me it really was magical!

ginger - least favourite food?
broccoli
AND @wilde-sherlock I TAG YOU BACK BOY

@slow-burn-sally asked harvest, cider, crow and quilt :D
harvest - what fictional character do you most identify with? Why?
Hmmmmm that’s a tough one. I’d love to say someone like Dana Scully, a character I really really admire, and I can see bits of myself in her or Aziraphale or Segundus or Remus Lupin or Kenneth the Page from 30 Rock or a bit of Guillermo de la Cruz...a weird combo of those perhaps? I’m more reserved but I like to help and I like to learn things
And then if I really get down to it, Newt Scamander. I am very good with animals, bad at eye-contact, tend to have odd conversations, like to work alone, pine at the people I like from a distance, and very strongly avoid conflict. (I’m not a Hufflepuff though)
cider - a food that you disliked as a child but now enjoy?
Tomatoes and avocados come to mind first, and I still don’t like either of those alllll the time. I was an incredibly picky child and I’m still picky as an adult and I don’t super love most foods to begin with anyway.
OH omg I have a story ok ok so I live in the south right and we have a lot of fried stuff (which I mostly don’t like and everyone is like you’re not a /real/ southerner blah blah blah) but my mom would always get fried okra and for TWENTY SIX FUCKING YEARS OF MY LIFE I thought that hushpuppies were the same thing as fried okra with just extra breading and I was always like ewwww I hate those until one day I was at a BBQ restaurant with my dad and they just kept bringing baskets of them around and he was loving it and asked why I didn’t eat them and I was like “oh I don’t like okra” and he was like “Katherine...they’re basically fried cornbread...” changed my freaking life.
crow - which school subject do you wish you had an aptitude for?
I’m afraid my answer is going to be boring, I was good at school, everything but physics, something about physics just never clicked for me (and no one understood why because I was crazy good at math and very logical and good with geometry and physical and spacial things and so I should be really good at it but it just never worked out that way for some reason) but I don’t really...care about physics?  sooooo maybe History? I was decent at History, but I could never remember dates and I would like to be better at History  (funnily enough I ended up studying /pre/history (paleo-, archeo-, geo-, anthro-))
quilt - how do you take your tea (or coffee)?
I...do not? ummm hmmm I only like tea if it’s like incredibly dark spicy tea (I found one that I liked at one of those mall tea stores one time and they were like oh yeah that one is $75 for a tin and I was like uhhhh no I’ll just stick with water forever k byeeee)
I do like sweet iced tea though (my one proof of being a southerner)
And this got long and rambly oops oh well
Thanks, friend! <3
