Hermit!Maruki from my own Arcana Swap AU: A shut-in researcher since a traumatic incident in college with Shibusawa occasionally stopping by to help him stay fed. His Persona is "Weishaupt" and is based on the founder of the Illuminati.

Justice!Zenkichi from the same AU: A celebrity Detective/Inspector who hides a dark secret. False Persona is Valjean and true Persona is Fenrir from Norse Mythology.

Madoka ‘Luna’ Mishina (made in this dollmaker)

A student of Kosei High’s music department and the eldest daughter of Eikichi Mishina. While appearing aloof and stoic on the outside, Madoka is a very caring, charming and confident young lady, with a strong sense of justice. She’s only recently moved to Shibuya from Sumaru City, and feels like an outsider because of that.

During the Phantom Thieves investigation into Madarame, Madoka is dragged along for the ride, awakening when she witnesses her friend Yusuke Kitagawa’s cognitive portrait and realizing that his teacher saw her friend as an object rather than a person.

Her Persona is Della Rose, an Old West outlaw and member of the infamous Wild Bunch gang. Della Rose uses a combination of curse & bless skills, with an emphasis on critical based skills - learning physical moves with a high chance of critical - as well as learning both dekaja and dekunda.

Her codename, Luna, comes from the crescent shaped hair clip that she wears in her hair, as well as the fact that the moon is associated with the night, when Phantom Thieves typically strike. She wields a buckler shield as her melee weapon and a portable light machine gun as her ranged weapon.

Sketches of all my redone designs for my Phantom Thieves from my AU, Icarus! Lots of info down below on the cut, so if you want to know more about the details and inspiration, feel free to keep reading!

This includes Akechi’s design for his Princely/Robin Hood attire, BEFORE his Icarus attire you might have seen from my other posts! Check out the Icarus AU tag for more info! Icarus has a main focus on Akechi and his relationship to the thieves, but the AU is actually an entire rewrite with new designs, 3rd semester and epilogue/strikers/tactica stories, hence Zenkichi and Sophia’s inclusion.

Read below for individual info:

I decided to include more motifs towards their persona’s and general vibes; and also just my own personal touches haha.

AKIRA - Not much has changed, I really like his design overall. I raised his boots to be like Arsene’s and changed his neck area.

MORGANA - I hate the OG pill shaped head, his new design is based heavily on the shape of Palico’s from Monster Hunter. Added a little more nod to Zorro/His persona motifs and also just made him cuter! Little hamburger headed cat.

RYUJI - I made him a little bulkier and gave some more weight to his outfit overall. I gave him heavier boots and a slightly buffer build to relate back more to his sporty style.

ANN - honestly was never too big on her latex outfit, I wanted to call back to a personal favorite female lead; Christine Daae, and used one of the versions of her Don Juan costume as inspiration. I remember seeing Phantom live and in many stage versions of her character, the Don Juan scene was a pure moment of female control, and she was truly working the Phantom and controlling every movement on the stage. Her presence is commanding, and I thought it was a very fitting tribute to Ann’s character as feminine strength. (I’m absolutely not referring to the movie iteration of Daae btw.)

YUSUKE - I referred to some historical art and legend of Goemon to add more elements of design to his outfit. When I color them, I want to add some really strong pops of color to his clothing to really drive the aesthetics and artistry home.

MAKOTO - Another totally redid outfit, I opted to give her a design which relates back to Popess Joan, and also Anat. I gave her a clawed hand on her right side and an uncovered hand on her left as both a nod to Anat’s hand raised in iconography of her from art history, but also to show the duality of Anat’s title as both a goddess of war, and of love. It also relates to the mythology of Joan and her nature as both a leader and a martyr. I changed her mask to a Venetian Commedia mask as well.

FUTABA - ok. I’ll be honest. I never liked her skin-tight outfit, it just doesn’t match her personality at all. Also, the high tech Egyptian feel never really sold me. I totally understand the tomb thing, but I truthfully think a dungeon/palace which was more like… tech/nerd themed would have been much more “futaba” the inspiration for this new outfit relates back to her persona, the Necromomicon, as well as her nerdy personality, and her affiliation as Alibaba (Ali Baba.) I wanted to go more lovecraftian, long sleeves and patterning designed to look more like lovecraftian tendrils, and big baggy pants and her classic shoes to match. The patterning on her undershirt will resemble a rib cage, both as a reference to her deathly “tomb” iconography, but also to Lovecraftian and Necronomicon lore. I think she matches the description of a nerdy, techie DND dungeon master more than the initial outfit, so that’s the route I took personally.

HARU - relating back to some fashions from 17th c France, where Milady’s story (the three musketeers) takes place, I kept her design relatively similar. I just gave her a little more iconography relating to the three musketeers and that general timeframe.

AKECHI - in his pre-Icarus outfit, I’ve given him a princely sort of outfit befitting of his two faced nature, and edited it to relate to Robin Hood a little more. I tried to keep it sleek and just generally very concealing and layered.

SUMIRE - i gave her some iconography relating back to one of her personas, who is an inference to Freya. I also included some more nods to classic Cinderella, with fantasy gown elements. Overall, relatively similar.

ZENKICHI - again, relatively similar, I really like his outfit. I just opened up the face some to show more personality and spiced up the outfit generally to keep it matching. honestly, les mis/Valjean was a hard one, but I also think his character could be heavily related back to Edmond Dante (Monte Cristo.) so I gave some nods to that as well.

SOPHIA - I turned her into a FINGIE!!!! I made her whole dress as a nod to her persona/to pandora’s tiles around her/the pillars. I wanted to make her small and almost unnatural since she’s an AI, and I thought having a little guy on the team would add some more variation.

leaning towards sophie for the whole “artificial being abandoned by its creator” thing and also sophie being a prototype god/ null being based off arceus....

but null's general aesthetic+ physical attacker+ type gimmick fits zenkichi better. the mentions of null going berserk and the whole element of controlling that fury via the mask fits him better too...

hi hello sorry if ur nyquill has kicked in and i missed the jump BUT i have some age swap au questions - what's everyone's persona? elemental affinities? weapons? does iwai still sell them (even tho he's a member of the party) or does someone else do that?

For the personas? I'm. Yeah I don't got much. I know the names would have to be Very Important, so I'm. Gonna take some time with that, but I have everyone's team roles?

Sojiro is of course, the wild card. But his original persona (my insert name for now has been Heracles, but. That's being changed) used Bless.

Next up is Chariot Sae! Her element is Ice! She's a bruiser for sure, having a line of physical attacks and a few spells to lower enemy defense. Low magic, super high physical. Her weapons are longer sticks, she. Has a hockey player aesthetic. Cause she is one-

As for Lovers Chihaya, I've given her wind. She's a wind girly in my opinion. She's got high magic stats cause she has their curing moves, the heals, etc

They. Should have a Magician. I. Just don't have one picked. Sorry folks

Then it's Emperor Munehisa. His element is fire. He's another bruiser type, does heavy damage. Debuffs enemies a bit y'know?

WOOOO and give it up for Priestess Toranosuke! Psi, he's a psi guy. A party buffer and healer, he's a great asset to the team!

And. Well. Hermit Tae is the Navi.

Empress Ichiko is nuke. She's, explosive lmao. Enemy debuffs, heavy nuke damage, she's a kicker for sure.

And then. The Royal party members.

Zenkichi is our Sumire here, so he'd be third semester only. Also, bless. At this point Sojiro would have enough firepower to be using Almighty anyways so. Yeah

And. Takuto.

He's Curse right from the start. He's bumbling and all that but he deals a lot of curse damage. Self buffs, all that

Sexuality Headcanon: i pretty much see him as straight but the right author could definitely sell me on him being bi and just closeted in the "really REALLY supportive 'ally'" way but yeah generally what i've got for him in canon is "definitely likes women" Gender Headcanon: cis guy A ship I have with said character: i don't really ship him with anyone romantically tbh. he'd definitely need to do some serious work on himself to have a healthy romantic relationship and even on the horror side i don't really see that kind of chemistry with him and anyone. i've seen some maruki/takemi art and i dig the aesthetic but he doesn't deserve a goth gf A BROTP I have with said character: can you call something a brotp if you find it interesting in a horrible trainwreck kind of way the same way you can with calling something a ship generally? because whatever he has going on with joker and sumi in that case A NOTP I have with said character: i don't care for maruki/zenkichi. i don't have any kind of serious objection to it i just don't like zenkichi and what content there is for it all seems pretty removed from canon in a way that doesn't really appeal to me A random headcanon: he really wanted to have kids once he and rumi were married and he was bringing in enough money from his work, though subconsciously he was always kind of thinking of the idea of children in a very... hannibal-y "the idea of shaping a life is fascinating" way rather than a real understanding of what parenting would entail. with her gone he's totally written off the idea and would joke to anyone who ever asked him that he can't even take care of plants, let alone a human being, but he would mourn the opportunity if he ever let himself be normal about his own grief for one second General Opinion over said character: he is terrible and fascinating and i am deeply obsessed with him. the intersection of being a genuinely horrifying villain responsible for some of the biggest nightmare fuel in the game while also being the quintessential Just Some Guy who is also an absolute cringefail loser is just so perfect. guy of all time, progenitor of all my brain worms, i have listened to gentle madman on loop for several hours straight on multiple different occasions

((Okay, so P3R and P5T.

Reload: It looks really pretty. Like, aesthetically gorgeous, no doubt. I've wanted a remake of P3 for a long time... unfortunately, with the details we currently have, it is not a remake for me. It has aspects of FES and P3P, while leaving out major parts of them (The Answer, which is canon, and FeMC, which I presume by extension could also mean her social links, but uh they need to cut the Ken one even if she gets her day in the sun bc holy shit lmfao-

Anyway, I wanted a remake that would be a marriage of all the big parts of each version. People say "good riddance The Answer sucks"? This was their chance to make it better, and instead they're leaving it out despite the fact it sets up everything for Elizabeth outside of P3. I'm a little worried they're gong to make a version 2 of the remake to add those parts... If they make it DLC, I might be interested, but idk. As it is now, I'm going to pass on it.

Tactica: I'm a little sad knowing it'll have day 1 DLC because lmfao just put it in the game at that point, but I am interested enough in the base idea of it to give it a shot. I have faith in some of the spinoffs, and if this leans toward the Q series with different gameplay, I'm down. I hope Zenkichi is in it as at least DLC eventually i love dorky team uncle...))

Hoping they give Wolf actual characteristics of real wolves. It has so much potential for hilarity and cuteness. I’m in love with the idea of a Zenkichi that’s timid and risk adverse unless someone is threatening his kids or his ability to provide for them.(Which definitely supports the idea that Akane is a catalyst for his awakening.)

omggg yes actually playing into the “papa wolf” trope as a play on his codename would be great! honestly i’m glad that team animal got another member like,,,,it’s so sad that ann and yusuke lost goro,,,,the animal pts need to stick together and now wolf can join their group. BUT ANYWAY i’m really interested too in what his character is going to be like, esp his “mask” vs his “true” self...and i like the idea of it being that he’s sort of avoidant in the real world, but in the metaverse he’s a very protective figure, of both the thieves (bc GOD give them an adult that actually does something proactive to protect them) and especially of his own daughter. it would really suit the name “wolf”

Do you have any headcannons of zenkichi and Sophie’s second and third awakening

Hmm… Well, the second awakening for the P5 crew are usually figures of various polytheistic pantheons, aka Gods or other such deific figures. There doesn’t seem to be any real connection between each Phantom Thief’s first and second Persona in regards to region. The Scottish Captain Kidd turning into Seiten Taisei, which is just the Japanese translation for Great Sage Equal to Heaven, one of the epithets of the Chinese Monkey King. Carmen, the title character of a French opera, turns into Hecate, a Greek goddess of magic.

So, since there’s no connection between Personas, that pretty much gives me free reign to give them any deific figure I want from any mythology, so long as they fit the same general aesthetic of being rebels, outcasts, or thieves within their narrative.

For Zenkichi… Let’s go with Anansi, the spider god of storytelling from various African myths. Why? Aesthetically, you could easily take the cages that make up Valjean’s design and turn them into spider webs. Plus, Anansi in his own stories definitely fit the trickster archetype, but in his most central story, he notably only goes after his predecessor as the god of stories because he was selfishly hoarding all the stories of the world to himself. Much like Zenkichi defying his superiors, his predecessors, because of an injustice that only he can see.

For Sophia, I kinda want to stay with the Greek angle of her first Persona, Pandora, and say Areia. Areia is specifically a Spartan epithet of the goddess of love, Aphrodite, who depicted her much more like a warrior than the rest of Greece because… Sparta. Why Aphrodite? Because in the story of Pandora, Aphrodite not only gave Pandora beauty, grace, and desire. She gave her the cunning and willpower to use these gifts to get what she wanted. Much like how Sophia uses the knowledge of the heart given to her by the Phantom Thieves to further her own desires to be ‘Humanity’s Companion’. That, and I think it would be fitting in a twisted sort of way to make her second Persona essentially a mother figure of her first Persona given her own bizarre mother issues with Ichinose.

Now, their third Personas are a different beast. Each of the Phantom Thieves’ third Personas are essentially the ‘true names’ of their first Personas. Either another identity in the story, or a real life person connected to the character. Or even something as simple as their first name, in the case of Captain Kidd and William.

As tempted as I am to make Zenkichi’s third Persona Hugh Jackman, I’m instead gonna go with an odd choice… 24601. Jean Valjean’s prisoner number in Les Miserables. Why? Because a large part of the story is Valjean being nothing more than this number in the eyes of the law, as personified by Javert. Just like how Zenkichi is perceived as nothing more than another cog in the corruption machine that is the Japanese police force. By his daughter, by the Phantom Thieves, by the criminals he swore to defeat, by his own superiors. Nothing more than a serial number on his badge.

For Sophia, another epithet for Pandora is Anesidora. Literally translated to ‘she who sends up gifts’. Quite fitting for Humanity’s Companion who will no doubt give all of the gifts of humanity given to her by the Phantom Thieves to those who need it in turn. Especially one woman in particular who sees herself as little more than a broken doll, like how many saw Pandora.

Sophia: According to my calculations, Ren spends minimum three hours in front of the mirror daily just getting his hair to look like that.

Zenkichi: Come on, kiddo. You don’t have to spend that much time on it.

Sojiro: Just don’t get any of that rat’s nest in the coffee and curry, you got that?
