9 people you would like to get to know better tag meme
except I'm starting a new post because the one I got tagged in was long as shit. I was tagged by @tacofuus, thanks so much!
Last song: Batter Up by Babymonster. It's a solid 6.5/10 check out
Favorite color: violet/lavender. Really any shade of purple
Last tv show/currently watching: I honestly don't really watch TV. I genuinely cannot remember. The last series I actually watched was Death Note with my best friend and that was last year/beginning of this year. I used to be into anime when I was in middle school and this felt like a return to my roots lmao
Sweet/spicy/savoury: I go with savory most of the time, but my favorite is sweet for sure.
Relationship status: narilamb
Current obsession: Writing fanfic for cult of the lamb. It's been just about a year and a half now and I don't see this dying down anytime soon, cotl has squarely entered full special interest status for me so I'll be here for at least another 3 years. I have a bad habit of making a new fandom blog every time I get a shorter-term hyperfixation, writing for it, getting kindasorta recognized in the fandom, then abandoning my works and deleting the blog when I'm not interested in it anymore. Maybe some of y'all followed me in my previous fandoms and y'all would probably never know bc of orphaned works that I can't find anymore. ...anyway. I've made too many close friends in this fandom to pull that stunt again. the-one-who-lambs and my cotl fics are here to stay. I'm rambling
Last thing you googled: 600 cc in cups (I was making soup but all the good noodle packets from China+Korea give units in cubic centimeters. It's about 2.5 cups btw)
Uhhhhh I don't know who to tag so I'll just pick the most recent 9 mutuals in my notes who haven't been tagged already by taco or the people they tagged lol. Don't feel pressured to do it, though! @artsycryptix @just-a-random-demon-official @miallurk @pikos-den @tokyonymph @mianing @bamsara @coffincrows @fanged-cotl

buckle up butter cup, i have QUESTIONS: 1, 2, 3 (👀), 11, 12, 15, 17 (👀), 22, 24, 32, 38, 40
I'll take your essay in MLA format plz <3
ah shit, i forgot my citations 😭
1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
my current default is Libre Franklin! i actually cycle through fonts a lot? i like the editing trick of changing your font to help catch errors and clunky writing, and sometimes i'll switch the font of my doc if i'm feeling particularly stuck while i'm writing. idk how many people know this, but you can change the default font/formatting/color of google docs, and i do it constantly 😂
2. If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?
I write by hand a lot actually! I went through 2.5 notebooks alone last year iirc. I always write in pen -- writing by hand helps me gets ideas out of my head faster, and part of that is that i can't undo/backspace what i write. i just gotta move on. and since i'll have to rewrite it anyways when i type it up, writing by hand really helps me get that first rough draft mess out. it also helps me discard the really crap ideas from that first draft -- sometimes the typed doc that it distills into is completely different than what's on paper, and we're all grateful for it.
3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?
WRITING IN FRIENDS DMS!!!! nothing gets my ideas flowing better than a friend to bounce them around with, and nothing helps me solidify and distill ideas like needing to explain them to someone. i am so bad about sending friends multiple screens worth of written scenes in their DMs (i am very fortunate to have friends who let me do this). this ritual is cursed because my preferred DM platform is tumblr, and i actually rarely remember to save these writings to something more permanent like a doc (pour one out for the many, many, MANY writings lost in DMs <3)
11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
*stares at writing notebook* *stares at lost DM fics* kill your darlings
real answer lol: if there's something i really like, i can usually find a way to bring it back into a WIP. i'm really good at that sort of adaptive thinking, but part of why i'm good at that is because i am a ruthless darling killer. all of my editing is very much focused on how all the pieces of a story work in harmony to each other and if something doesn't fit within that, that's not the story for it. but sometimes the reason why a thing doesn't work in the story is because its in the wrong place and since I have no issue removing things that don't work, it's a lot easier to find a better place for it if you're not fixated on keeping it in a specific spot. and for any darling that never makes its way back to its home story, it goes into my mental compost heap to possibly seed into something new for a future story.
12. If a genie offered you three writing wishes, what would they be? Btw if you wish for more wishes the genie turns all your current WIPs into Lorem Ipsum, I don’t make the rules
fool proof way to write in the shower, perfect recall when im trying to remember a story idea i laid out in DMs, the perfect cure to my adhd executive dysfunction.
15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?
i'm an avid annotator but only for like...general knowledge? all of my textbooks, reference book, and journal articles/papers are littered with annotations and other marginalia (this is partially why i have so many colored ink ballpoint pens actually 😂). there was a hot minute where i tried to do this for general story/poetry books, but...ehh???? i never quite got into that because usually i just lose myself in the story and my external thoughts come out better in friend DMs or post tags ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
as for the others-- dog ear, no, i don't like the look of bent pages. plus i have a loooot of bookmarks i'm still not using because they're one of those Cheap Art Merch things lol. i absolutely read in the bath (if i take a bath, because ya girl gets BORED), but usually im grabbing one of my travel edition books jic something happens to it, anything electronic i hold over the edge so it won't fall in.
17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.
will respond in a separate post so i can be extra annoying!! lmk if there's a specific WIP you're hoping to hear about XD
22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud?
hrmmhmMm define organized?
zero organization to notebooks. those are for Throwing Up Ideas, organization would give me writer's block or anxiety. similar for anything that winds up in my phone notes -- even if i could organize them better, i probably wouldn't? they're kinda like a part 2 to the writing notebook for me jotting down ideas, esp stuff that i don't think will become proper stories. proper stories are on google drive because i don't have a better option. fics there are separated by fandom. series and multi-chapter fics get their own folders, individual stories stay out in the general folder. i also have a folder for posted/finished one-shots and a compost folder for discarded story ideas to help keep the clutter down
Tumblr media
24. How much prep work do you put into your stories? What does that look like for you? Do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?
...how much does friend DM yelling count? i love plotting out stories in friend DMs, it's one of my favorite things to do, but i don't like. force myself to stick with anything either. i don't like rigorous story outlines, i prefer a more organic and flexible approach to writing stories. the best i can manage for a story outline is a general bullet list of story points i hope to hit. i like research a lot (wikipedia rabbit holes my beloved <3), but i don't usually worry about going too in-depth for it. it's really good fuel for story ideas and the brainstorming process, but like. i write fic. i care a lot about being sensitive and careful with other people's cultures and histories, but otherwise i don't fret the details and minute because my goal here is to share silly stories.
32. What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?
uuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
this is really hard for me because i never read stories as individual lines. that said, i was thinking earlier of that poem (poem line?) "a hand has five fingers. five fingers and five thousand wants." because talk about kim-core, but i don't remember what its from and google isn't helping.
that said, hope y'all are ready for me to reblog this and this 583478 times when we finally hit proper hogswatch season <333
38. What is something about your writing process YOU think is Really Weird? If you are comfortable, please share. If you’re not comfortable, what do you think cats say about us?
..........i had an answer in mind when i first saw this question, but i just forgot everything now that i'm here (am i even a writer?? surely not.)
maybe this will come back to me later.
40. Please share a poem with me, I need it.
you get "the more loving one" by wh auden because i am ALWAYS thinking of this poem. #predictable

Wow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow. What a day it has been and we are still just in Tokyo! So many things have happened and we still have a 6 hr flight to get to Bangkok. Let's start at the beginning. First flight is Denver to LA. The flight is short and sweet, an easy 2.5 hrs on the smallest plane I've ever been on. The seats were sets of two rather than three so I got to have a window seat for once!!! I'm normally always stuck in the middle seat because Scott is too broad to sit in the middle and we want to sit together, so having a window was a special treat. Easy peasy. AND THEN.... I'm walking off the tarmac and the SECOND I get through the doors into the airport I look at Scott and I say, "I fucked up." He replied, "What??!!" with pure panic in his eyes. 😂 "I forgot my laptop." I had left my laptop under the seat in front of me. 🙃 Scott just shakes his head at me lol. The lady at the counter heard me and she said to not worry and just wait there, asked me for my seat number and went and got it for me. That was just the first scare.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^Flying over the Grand Canyon 😍
Now we are in LA with a 5.5 hr layover (not by choice, our flights were changed 10 times)... sooo we decided to leave the airport and go see the beach/grab some food. The closest nicest beach was chose was Manhattan Beach. We've driven by it on past trips but never actually stopped there. By the time we got there it was already dark out, which meant we had the beach to ourselves. We took off our shoes and took a short stroll, just to feel the ocean on our skin. 😊 I love the beach at night, it's so peaceful with no one around. Then it was time to eat. Scott had been mentioning wanting tacos on the plane over so I googled best tacos near me and a restaurant named Tacolicious popped it. It looked pretty good, so we decided to end our stroll and go clean off our feet on the boardwalk to get our shoes back on. We sit down for a moment, I switch shoes to flip flops for the time being till all the sand falls off. As I make room in my bag for my sneakers, I take out my wallet and lay it down, thinking in my head, "I'll just carry this since I'm about to use it at dinner." We pack up all our stuff, and walk the 4 blocks over to the restaurant. We check out he other ones along the way but this one def had the best vibes. We grab an indoor/outdoor table. It's a little chilly out but they have a great heater on that's not too hot. Perfect. The SECOND the server comes over and asks us what we want to eat, I panic. I realize I am NOT in fact carrying my wallet. 😳🤯😳 Scott is laughing and making small talk with the server, talking about different kinds of margaritas, and I'm in full blown panic mode, just waiting for her to go away so I can share my panic with Scott. She finally walks away after what felt like years, and I say to him, "You're gonna hate me...". He once again just goes blank staring at me. I say, "I think I left my wallet at the beach." He FREAKS out and stands up, about to go through all of the bags to make sure. I say I'm gonna go look! I start walking back, briskly. I have a good feeling its still there because it was super dark out and there was no one around at all. If I left it there it was left near some bushes, so it would be unlikely for someone to see it. I walking and walking, with Scott on the phone because he had to stay back to watch our stuff. I hop over the side of the pathway and walk down to where we put our shoes on and THERE IT IS...... SHEWWWWWW. That would've been really terrible. Scott breathes a massive sigh of relief and orders us tequila shots. 😂
Tumblr media
Now that I have almost lost a SECOND extremely important thing, we are ready to shake it off and enjoy some tacos. Also Scott takes my wallet and says he's carrying it for the rest of the trip. 🙈 Very fair. Back to Tacolicious. We ordered an array of tacos including mushroom carnitas, shrimp, "vampire" tacos, fried cod and more. Tacolicious is named appropriately! They were DELICIOUS! Absolutely would go back and get it again, and we never say that. So if you're in LA, near Manhattan beach, give them a whirl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Side note - This is the first time either of us has ever had a long enough layover to leave the airport. If you find yourself with a long layover and can find something to make it worth your while, do it. It breaks up the monotony of the airport vibes and you can get way better food/do different things for way cheaper.
Now it's back to the airport. It is starting to really feel real. We are going to TOKYO! 🇯🇵 But first, we must somehow get through this 12 hr flight. We paid extra for the premium economy seats. Absolutely would recommend. The extra legroom and being closer to the front really did make a difference for us. The worst part? We were next to 3 different screaming children. When I say screaming, I mean screeching. I can have sympathy for most parents, I can only imagine how hard that would be, but this children were on another level. There was maybe 2 hours of the entire 12 hr flight that there wasn't one or more than one screaming at the top of their lungs. It was taxing on everyone around us. We honestly started to worry for the childrens health. Like their poor throats?? Sheeeshh. We slept in small bursts but for the most part we were up. The tv/music/game selection was pretty good. A 12 hr flight I think is always going to be difficult no matter how you swing it.
Tumblr media
Eventually we made it. Walking out of the plane felt surreal. I didn't feel like we were actually there. Our plan for our 6.5 hr layover was to visit a nearby hot springs or "onsen." We figured that was plenty of time for a 15 minute taxi and an hour or two of soaking. We really wanted to be refreshed for the final 6 hr journey. In order to leave the airport in a foreign country you have to go through customs. I knew that, but I was blissfully unaware of how long and slow the Tokyo customs line would be. It took over 1.5 hrs to get through. Probably had to scan our passport at least 6 different times, and it was soooo HOT. 🥵 The outside temp was chilly, it was just the massive quantity of people all squished in the maze of a line that made it pretty unbearable. Once we finalllyyy got through we basically had run out of time to feel comfortable enough leaving the airport. I was pretty disappointed for a moment, but I saw a large sign hanging in the arrivals gates that said "Haneda airport garden." It intrigued me, so we decided to follow that path.. how bad could it be? We walked a little further and I saw a sign that said "Spa" and "Hot Springs." We both got so excited!! HOT SPRINGS?? IN THE AIRPORT???? It's gotta be like at least $200/person right? We figured we'd try it anyway, we got time to kill. Guys.. it was $37. THIRTY SEVEN. For as long as you like.. you can stay there all day.. Multiple pools, some indoor, some outdoor, all looking over the Tokyo skyline with beautiful Mt. Fuji in the background. ALL kinds of spa/bathing facilities, herbal saunas, some hot stone rooms with different types of stones. Rock salt stones, lava stones, and a cooling room for when you wanted to cool off. There was a "relaxation room" that was dark and peaceful and had the comfiest chairs to sleep on and blankets. I'm telling you all.. this place was HEAVEN. So serene. The most unique part about it was it was a Japanese traditional onsen, rather than a Western hot spring like we know them to be. Here, you had to wear certain outfits in certain spaces, and the soaking pools were segregated into women's and men's because you are required to be totally nude! That may sound weird to some, but after a minute or two you get used to it and it just feels natural. Embrace the culture, right?! It truly was the best experience. I am so sad when we fly back we are connecting in a different airport and we won't get to experience that again. Absolute number one BEST way to get through a layover. 100 stars. 10 out of 10. They even have a restaurant, and the food was delicious. The friendliest staff. Neither one of us can wait to go back. If you get the chance, you absolutely must do this. Please... for me...
*Side note - there is a rule of No Tattoos in all Japanese onsens, as they associate tattoos with gangs. Some, from what I've found, including this one, are flexible where you can purchase thin, basically skin colored bandages, and cover your tattoos, as long as they aren't too large. The coverings are cheap and easy to apply and covered a decent amount of surface area.
**No pics are allowed in the onsen, so I won't be able to share it's beauty with you.. You'll just have to go see for yourself. 😉
Alright. Final leg of the trip. 6 more hours to go. This time we are flying on Japan Airways, rather than American Airlines. I was a bit nervous because we didn't get any sort of upgrade on our seats, and we were pretty far back. Honestly these are the most spacious seats we've ever had in a plane. The legroom feels like the same amount that we paid extra for on the last plane, the ceilings are taller which makes the overall space feel bigger, and the seats are wider. No complaints. I mean my butt is DEFINITELY complaining as we speak, but I'm chalking that up to this being the final hours of our 34 hr long journey. I was still pretty full from the onsen breakfast, so when they came around offering us a meal on this flight I was going to pass, until I saw how cute and elaborate it was. It was like a 7 course meal, including multiple kinds of tea, miso soup, choice of entree, 3 sides, and they even topped it off with some Haggan Dass ice cream. They gave us REAL silverware.. like what?? On an airplane? I loved it. Thanks Japan Airways!
Tumblr media
We are currently 2 hrs and 46 mins away from FINALLY being in Thailand. The last 2 hours of the previous flight were the most torturous, and these are shaping up to be as well. But what a journey it has been so far, and it has just begun. There is soooo much more we are going to see and do, and sooo many more stories to come!! I can't wait. Tonight, we check into our hotel and the plan is to RECOVER and RELAX. We'll be heading to Chinatown for dinner to see the last bits of the Lunar New Year celebrations.🏮🥡 I'm sure the food will be bomb, as will many other meals while we are here.
Thank you to anyone who chooses to follow along with us and read these crazy posts. Scott and I are grateful for all the love and support we have throughout this trip. I, in particular, am just so grateful to have my babe by my side for all of it, good and bad. I can't guarantee how often I'll post, but I want to remember as many small details as I possibly can, so stay tuned! I'll do my best! 😍
Next stop - BANGKOK! 🇹🇭

so what animes have you seen already?
Oh boy! Not many tbh, I only really started watching it last winter when my roommate asked if I wanted to give it a try! I haven’t watched anything from any studio that did Visions (yet), but I wanna soon!
Animes I HAVE seen, in order:
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood — Aight so when roomie suggested we watch an anime, a friend who had seen a lot of them recommended this one to watch first as it was a good “starter anime”, and y’all idk if it’s just because it’s the first one I watched but I’ve still gotta call it my favorite one because y’all it’s SO FUCKING GOOD. Like that’s understatement of the century but I don’t have time to write an essay on why it’s so good lol just trust me it’s GOOD. 11/10s on EVERYTHING about it. Plot, characters, setting, everything. My one sadness is that I would not be good at writing fic for it lol.
Demon Slayer — YouTube AMVs and seeing it pop up on Netflix had us start this one next and y’all it’s probably the prettiest anime I’ve seen like ever, like the art style is chef’s kiss. Amazing story and AWESOME characters too, very good, 10/10 would recommend. I think I could write a decent fic for it if a plot ever came to me.
The Great Pretender — The only non-action/fight anime on the list, roomie and I tried it out because we figured we should see something different? It was on Netflix so we looked. It was good, clever writing, good characters got a little bit weird in the second season, particularly at the end, but overall it’s a decent watch. I could write fic for the shipping aspect but again, no plot ideas because the plot is fuckin weird.
Akame Ga Kill — Roommate had seen this before, recommended it to me. The characters were decent, setting was interesting! Pretty art style too, but I was like, verrrrry critical of the plot throughout the entire singular season lol, so take that as you will. Actually no yeah plot was kinda wack. My fave character deserved better tho.
Castlevania — Okay okay I know I know not an anime, but it’s a similar artstyle. (Also I think the game it’s based off of is a Japanese game?) Actually watched the first two seasons a while ago, but then watched the third and fourth with roommate. Y’all it’s REALLY good, literally everyone in the damn show is fucking hot and I’m jealous, I ship the throuple HARD hard. I think I could maybe write a decent fic for it if, again, I had any plot motivation lol
Trese — Again, cheating because not anime, but this one is still non-Western (Filipino) media and it’s glorious. I’ve never seen an episode of Supernatural but I feel that this show is like, what Supernatural wishes it could be. Another gorgeous artstyle and I’m so gay for the MC and the first season left me with so many questions so I really hope it gets another one! I gotta get around to reading the webcomic
D.Gray-Man — Okay this one is entirely the fault of @jasontoddiefor who got back into it and promptly dragged everyone he knew down with him, and I am so very glad he did because this is a fantastic— and I’d argue relatively underrated —series. Artstyle is gorgeous (certain characters be very hot), the character arcs are brilliant, I love all the characters, and the worldbuilding is so friggin creative, like I’d put it up there as another one of my faves. I actually did write a fic for this, but publishing a fic in an unfamiliar fandom is terrifying and bad for my anxiety and it’s gonna take me like five more years to work up the courage to do it again lol.
Sword Art Online — Currently watching right now with roommate. I heard some not very good things about it, but my roommate wanted to give it a try so I sat down and watched with them. Sure enough it’s been a case of half the time I’m flailing over the nice animation and how creative the worldbuilding is and the charm and potential all the characters have……………….. and then the other half of the time I’m banging my head against the wall repeatedly because it pulled some seriously stinky bullshit lol. So yeah watch it’s promising but also Suffer in not the good way.
Fire Force — Also currently watching! On my own this time, roommate already watched and recommended. This one is VERY good, like I am super into the plot and the setting and everything to do with the universe. Still getting into the characters and it’s taking a bit more time? So the watch is going slower than usual, but that’s alright! The entire premise makes up for it.
So that’s all the anime I’ve seen! I’ve also seen 2.5 Studio Ghibli movies and they are all JUST as good as people say they are (Kiki’s Delivery Service, Howl’s Moving Castle, and bits and pieces of Princess Mononoke) 1000/10 recommend.
You didn’t ask about the manga I’ve read but I’ll list them anyway! For the record I’m not a huge manga reader because my eyes find it hard to see the illustrations when everything is in different shades of black and white, it makes action scenes in particular really difficult to read, which is a problem when you usually like action plots
Demon Slayer — The anime isn’t complete yet and after the movie I wanted to know MORE so I hunted down the manga and binged it all. Y’ALL GOTTA READ IT IT’S STILL SO FUCKIN GOOD AND I’D DIE FOR SO MANY CHARACTERS I’M IN LOVE WITH SO MANY
D.Gray-Man — Same thing as Demon Slayer, the anime isn’t complete yet and neither is the manga BUT so I read the rest of what’s been written. Hoo hoo HOO I hope they animate more of it because the plots coming up are brilliant and I want it
My Hero Academia — Look, EVERYONE is yelling about this one and it trends like once a week and like five irl friends love it so I figured there was too much anime out but I had to know so I’d just skim the manga just to figure out what the fuck the hype was. It’s good, lol, I totally get the hype now, the strength is in the worldbuilding and a whole handful of extremely interesting yet surprisingly simple character types that work to drive the plot forward. There is so much potential here and I could definitely write fic for this but I am not touching that fandom with a ten foot pole and that’s coming from a Star Wars fan 😂
Yona of the Dawn — Currently reading this!!!! Ok so there’s a season of an anime out for this, I walked in to see my other roommate watching what was probably one of the horniest scenes in it. I was immediately like “👀👀👀👀 shit fuck that’s hot do these heteros have rights????” I was about to plop my ass down and start watching but roommate was like “oh there’s only one season and it’s unfinished and I know you don’t like unfinished stuff” so I promptly got my ass up and googled the manga so I could see more. Y’all it is GOOD, if you love the dramatic romances from Star Wars this is RIGHT up your alley and dare I say better, the plot is lovely, the characters are great, and I am SO MAD there’s only one anime season. I’d absolutely write fic for this if I was more confident, I have so many polyship ideas!!!!!!

Ok, so, I've identified as aromantic for almost two years, and I thought I was confident about it, but I've been feeling really bad about it lately. I've always wanted a perfect, storybook romance. I've always wanted that ideal family and that ideal life. It hurts so much now that the reality is setting in that I will never be able to have those things, let alone even feel romantic feelings. I don't know how to move forward.
I think one thing that can help a lot is be aware that we live in a culture that really pushes hard the concept that you need to have a romantic relationship to be properly fulfilled. And in some ways it’s subtle and in some it’s not, but that message is everywhere, and it’s very easy to internalize.
It’s also not true. Everyone’s path to being happy and feeling fulfilled is different, and it depends on the individual. Sometimes I look at being aromantic (especially romance averse aro like I am) a bit like not liking chocolate. How often have we heard it’s the greatest food in the world, it’s better than sex (lol), etc. And some people just don’t like it, and maybe they can force themselves to eat a lot of it, or even tolerate it. But they’ll never get that same ‘this is the greatest food’ ever feeling people who love chocolate do. They probably have their own favourite food. Or have other things that brings them joy more than eating does.
For romance averse aros, no matter how much we force ourselves into that mold with a storybook romance and picket fence with 2.5 kids, we’re never going to get that feeling of fulfillment it’s supposed to bring us.
There are other things out there though that will bring us that fulfillment, we just need to find it. (And frankly I think this is true even for none aro people, the storybook romance and ideal family is really only the right path for some people.) And maybe there’s a cause you feel strongly about or you’ll discover you will. Maybe there’s a hobby out there you can love. Maybe there are other people you can be making strong connections with. Maybe there’s a career or vocation. Maybe it’s a volunteer thing. Maybe it’s some combination of a lot of things. But there’ll be something out there that you will get a lot more out of than forcing yourself to do a romance you won’t enjoy.
Personally I’ve felt like I get more out of being creative than anything else, it’s really great to make things. Whether it’s art of some type, carpentry, cooking, sewing, whatever. Everyone is different.
Sometimes aro media can help too, seeing characters like us can help us feel like there’s another way to be and give us people we can connect to. There’s a lot of books and podcasts coming out these days with aro characters and you can easily google a lot of lists, personally I really love the 2015 Jughead run from Archie comics where Jughead is heavily coded as aro.
I’ve also found that sometimes it helps to just cut out any media that’s strongly pushing these messages (oh god the rom coms where the woman thinks they’re happy in their career until a jerk shows up and teaches her she’s been lonely and secretly needed a romance this whole time. Books are especially bad). And maybe even just romance focused media in general, and try and focus more on found family type media. Or family oriented media if that appeals to you.
If there’s any people/internet things/etc pushing that too, it’s OK to cut that out too. I know some people can be really romance obsessed, see if you can find another interest of theirs to get them off that, that kind of thing.
Connecting to other aros can be great too if you feel up to it. Finding communities around and joining, even if you just lurk. Arocalypse is a great starting point. And following aros on social media too, both aro focused blog but people who just happen to be aro is great too. And it can mean a lot to see really interesting, complex people, who are also aro. And see that you can live a full meaningful life and be aro at the same time.
The biggest thing though I think to remember is that it generally takes a while for these kind of feelings to go away. You’re not going to hear ‘oh actually there’s lots of ways to live a life in a fulfilling way’ and suddenly feel much better. Change happens gradually. But you’d be amazed how much the messages you’re getting around you can affect you, even if you are aware of it, and how much consistently hearing counter messages and seeing validation for the kind of person you are can make you feel better.
You can also watch your own thought patterns and if you catch yourself kind of in a cycle where you’re reinforcing that you’re going to be unhappy because you’re happy, put in a conscious effort to stop that and remind yourself there’s a lot of different ways to be happy. Taking the time to remind yourself of this every once in a while can help too.
Hopefully this is helpful. Remember too to be kind to yourself, things can definitely get better.
All the the best and good luck!

Dude i love the internet sometimss i go to someones blog and theyre like “sideblog is at x” and im like !!!???! DUDE???? Sometimes i think i know three people but they turn out to all be the same person on different accounts and it makes me love them more. Theres someone, like longtime friend, on my discord server who im not entirely sure is actually a separate person or another account for the same person but like. Ive known these people for like 3 years now so i cant really ask??
I feel like ive said this before but worst thing in the world is not knowing if something you do or experience is normal -
My sisters dog is growling at nothing right now but she was kinda asleep and now shes up and wagging her tail so probably im not about to get nerfed by a ghost. If i dont send this ask you’ll know ig.
- anyway so then youre googling hospital robots at two in the morning and for some reason the internet doesn’t know what you mean by that. Idk the human experience is so varied and seriously what how are there so many ways to do things the world is so crazy. I wanna live in the same house with someone i share no language with and see how that would work out. I think im pretty good at nonverbal communication and also it would be rad af to halfway not know whats going on half the time but it would be in a fun way this time. My neighbor, when i was bad at chinese or having trouble learning or whatever offered to drop me off on the streets of beijing and pick me up three days later, he said by then id know the language. At the time that scared me, and i dont know how good of an idea that specifically is but idk id do it. Its just so wild how many things there are yknow??
Honestly i feel like i had other funnier things to say but i cant remember any of them so instead how about you tell me how youre doing? How was your new year and being back at school and whatnot? Seen any cool critters?
omg hi dba! answer for this and the rest of ur asks under the cut!!!
i think u can ask. i dont think its that rude. its a wide internet out there. im really careful abt keeping track of sideblogs and im super weird abt like who i follow i have neuroses abt it and stuff but so anyway i do keep exact track of who is who. if i interact via a sideblog i constantly keep track.
as for the varied and wild human experience yes so much. i dont think its a good idea to do that but my dad said when he lived in south america for a little while as a kid he picked up spanish really quick so it's true. i love thinking about the complex inner lives of everyone around me. andrew garfield voice i think you could fall in love with anyone if you knew their story.
my new year was very boring lol i literally watched doctor who on da couch but it was good. as for critters i was getting high a while back (sorry kids. dont do drugs etc) and a deer literally came out of the woods and walked right by me. like it was not 5 feet from me i could have reached out and touched it. it was sososo cool.
Tumblr media
okay so when u sent this i was actually blogging while on a discord call with tumblr user transfagshit / carriecoded and so we were a little incomprehensible on the dash. our blogs should be viewed together in tandem from that night in order to piece together any jokes
Tumblr media
analyzing supernatural actually has nothing to do with being smart and everything to do with bullshitting. all analysis is going hey you know what would be funny. if i said this. i have a post somewhere that keeps being tagged as like meta and or whatever and i genuinely have no idea what i was saying. i typed it frantically at 1am. so clearly its at least a little bit bullshitting. its not exhausting at all because were all doing it as a bit. writing supernatural posts fills the hole in my heart that having not taken an english class in 2.5 years left. its a hobby.
Tumblr media
fsdakjsfdlkjf thanks bro. it'll be okay. someone died recently. which hasnt been fun. but i'm okay. or i will be or whatever. life goes on etc. i'll be fine! nevertheless he blogged etc
Tumblr media
the only thing with the omega variant is it is the last greek letter, which means we would have to do the million other variants first. which would suck. but god if we got there we would NEED the laugh. we earned the laugh. for getting through that. also dont apologize i love receiving ur asks!!! bussin. i feel like that word had a real cultural moment 5 months ago and i havent seen it since thank u for reminding me. i hope youre also having a lovely time wherever you are

AWWWWW MY BOI IS SO HAPPY AHHHHH
AWWWWW HE'S HUGGING THEM
WAIT IS THAT IT!?!?!?
Well, at the very least, I'm happy to see an entire special centered around my favorite boi.
Okay, as for how I rate 「Super Danganronpa 2.5: Komaeda Nagito」、I think I'd rate it 9/10. I loved the idea, the story, and the way it was centered around my favorite character in the whole francise. I extremely enjoyed how wholesome the friendship of Fuyuhiko, Kazuichi, and Nagito was. However, I was confused as to what was happening during the majority of it. And while there's nothing necessarily WRONG with that, I'm still confused as to why he would've wanted to be friends with Kazuichi and Fuyuhiko, of all people. I would've found it more realistic if it was instead Chiaki and Hajime. I also wonder how he knew that Hajime and Izuru were the same person from the moment he woke up, even though he was dead and not present furing the big reveal at the end of the second game. I'm also curious as to why he despised talent in the weird virtual world. It's likely that they answers to all those questions were obvious and I'm just a huge idiot tho. Overall, it was nice to see what could've been of Nagito, and to discover how much he actually does value friendship. It helped understand and grow to know better the lovable, chaotic boi that we all either love or hate, known as Nagito Komaeda.

allrightey it’s just over an hour before it becomes next year (well, as i finish writing this post anyway lol) and ughhh i kinda hate NYE because it always feels sad somehow
it was a fairly good year for me though, which had its roots in last year. last year i happily, suddenly got a lot more time to myself where i could do what i wanted to again! feel more gay/queer/whatever again! rediscover my interests! was refreshed and thinking about fic and fandom things! i couldn’t find a fandom for ages though, or at least, one that stuck. (i drifted through things like spiderman and merlin; basically this year has been all about revisiting old fandoms and not acquiring any new ones except for blind channel for a short while. (FAH and the renshai chronicles don’t count imo.))
anyway, i eventually decided to turn sebis fic into an original fic. this year i started working on it quite a bit, got lost at chapter 5... but since i was thinking so much about oskar and ethan (seb and lewis renamed (well actually his name’s oskari because duh i was gonna make him half finnish (and half aussie)))--well, mostly oskar tbh--i kinda started thinking about seb again.
and then eurovision happened and i thought joonas’ hair in their performance looked cool and oskar-ish. and then when i saw his instagram i thought he KIND OF looked like a finnish version of seb
Tumblr media
and then i started thinking about seb even more
Tumblr media
(x)
and i missed his face so damn much
and then i started losing interest in joonas because like... first of all i get turned off by shirtless men for the most part (which is nothing against him, it’s just me and my preferences). second of all, i KNOW joonas is smart, he actually has some depth, but he rarely shows it. so the apparent immaturity (i know he’s not!!!!) plus the fact he’s 4 years younger than me (and it felt like it) meant that i never could quite crush on him properly.
MEANWHILE, SEB KEPT LOOMING (bc seb always seemed as perfect as one could be (or, perfect enough, even all the way back in 2012 when i started properly watching f1) and more mature to me because he’s 2.5 years older--but even that aside he always said some ridiculously profound things, even when he was younger, he’s kinda like an old soul reincarnated in a young body; on top of that he’s FUNNY and cute and etc etc (and the best, most flexible, versatile fic character one could ever ask for...!))
and then yeah, i wandered back into f1 bit by bit.
f1 is a weird fandom for me, i left in 2014 sometime (and properly by 2015 sometime, perhaps?) not because i lost interest in it and naturally drifted away; rather i made myself leave because the media naturally likes to comment on things and make a narrative. everybody loves a story. stories are the things that draw people in and make them stick around waiting for more. the problem is when it’s about non-fictional factual things which can’t always fit a narrative, but they get shoved into it anyway. and the even bigger problem is when it was mostly negative stories about seb in 2014 and he was unfortunately, stupidly, the only thing that could make me happy at the time
but ANYWAY. now i just figure that there are people being paid to worry about these things, about seb and f1 and whatnot. i’m not paid to do anything, and i don’t have to do anything either, so i’m not going to worry, i’m just gonna sit here and enjoy the seb content and ignore what i want to ignore. because when you like something or someone you’re supposed to enjoy it, right? not stress yourself out. so~
Tumblr media
(i dumped this pic here on the off chance someone actually read this post and made it all the way to the end, and actually knows where i could reblog this ^ pic/give me a link to a post so i can reblog it. that would be greattt, i tried to find it through google but i couldn’t XD)

6/28 I DID A LOT
WOOH
WOOH
I talked in chinese today! For around a half hour!! AHHHHHHHH
ANYWAY
AHHHHHHH
IM SO HAPPY I WAS UNDERSTANDABLE AHHGGHGSIUSJAJEJDJEEJIE
So first of all I practiced with Google translate today beforehand (lol yes machine translate isn’t perfect). I clicked the app, clicked transcribe, spoke in chinese then saw if the English translation it was producing was close enough to what I was trying to mean to say. (Also I learned chinese transcribe will need to process for a few moments if you play Chinese audio like from a podcast because at first it will give you a sucky transcription lol and then correct itself). Anyway so I did that and quickly learned: Google translate WILL fucking think I am speaking sentences when I’ve only said a couple words of my sentence because I pause “too long” so when I tried thinking of tones or grammar I spoke too fucking slow for the app so BAM I had to speak faster for the app just to comprehend me. So I did not practice Thinking about how the fuck to say things right much, just how to recall words on a fucking speed time limit lol. So uh that was an experience. I’ll definitely say that my 学习普通话 app is way better for me actually practicing pronunciation with any success, because Google just will NOT tolerate me speaking slowly goddamn.
Anyway so then tonight I spoke with my language partner. Well
WELL
good news: I was understood, I was told I sound pretty standard and they can tell I maybe imitate some peoples phrases and words from shows I watch (which in this case is a compliment since they said weeks ago when I asked how they improved their standard mandarin accent for a speech competition that’s what They did and the kind of shadowing they suggested I try doing more for accent work).
My grammar and word choice was understandable (I KNOW I wasn’t perfect and there were fucking mistakes Especially just notable spots where I forgot common words and tried to talk Circles around those words to describe them since I know Enough words to kind of “explain around” and come up with a more word description of a simple word I forgot sometimes but fuck is it probably awkward to listen to. Like I forgot “back then/at that time” so I said “the time when I was in high school” or “in high school I..” just because I couldn’t say “that time” on the spot, also fucking I forgot how to say “also” and “or” in certain ways and just had to figure out a different way to make my point like “this is like that” or “not the same” ToT).
Anyway regardless it’s a real big accomplishment to me. Reasons being: 1. I’ve never talked in chinese that long straight or to someone else communicating, or telling stories about my life and asking questions and actually testing my fucking communication abilities past small talk. Even talking alone to myself it’s just phrases or small situations where if I forget a word I just stop, so this was huge for me. 2. I did not have time to think about tones period while talking today with my language partner so like being comprehensible is!!!! GREAT. Considering I tried speaking to a language partner simple common word tone pair examples or very simple small talk at 5 months into learning and remember being incomprehensible like 50% of the time. Versus me now a little under 2 years in so being able to simply not be constantly thinking about tones and still know I might be understood (and in this specific case was understood) is nice to know. 3. I did better at winging vocabulary and talking my way around words I didn’t know than i thought I could. 4. REALLY simply tone and grammar being comprehensible is blowing my mind on its own - I know there were many mistakes (I personally could hear my 3rd tone not always sounding right to my own ear, and know I heard a few grammar mistakes I heard after I’d made my point lol). But just being comprehensible enough for someone understand my points even if I made those mistakes was really cool. 5. I’m hoping this means all the things I’ve been doing lately: the Listening Reading, the watching shows with English subs this month while repeating some of the Chinese lines to myself, listening to audiobooks and repeating many of the lines to myself, and the weekly language exchange I’ve been doing, have all been helping to some degree. Improving production skills is not something I’ve tried studying before and so basically all that I’m doing is flailing around trying stuff and hoping something is useful. It’s nice to see something must be if I’ve managed this.
Anyway it was just very very cool to be understandable. ;-; At this time last year I was absolutely assuming it would take years to get even a little understandable. Also for now idk this proved to me to maybe just stick to shadowing for a while and Not specifically thinking of tones While actively speaking. For a while I thought of them actively which made me clearer and I think was important and helped, at this point currently I think sometimes i overthink and trying to speak from memory/more shadowing practice might help it become a bit more automatic? And then I can go back to some corrective work where I’m messing up specifically or haven’t internalized certain words/phrases tones maybe.
IN OTHER NEWS
today I ALSO played 4 hours of Kingdom Hearts II in Japanese WHICH WAS AN EXPERIENCE
AN EXPERIENCE IVE NEVER HAD BEFORE LIKE FUCKING THIS
So 1. EONS easier than last time I studied Japanese. For context at 2-2.5 years into studying Japanese I played the opening of KH2. I remember it was brutal, I used my phone constantly to look up words, but I got through like the opening portion to the first save point after the haunted mansion (so like is that day 2? Basically what’s usually .5-1 hour of play or less that took me a few hours back then). It was doable, kinda brutal, but also I have kh2 near to my heart so I could play it without reading when I felt drained. Now?? I had over a year break from Japanese study (maybe 2-3 years break idk). I reviewed Japanese in I think March-April 2021 this year. April/May to June (now) I’ve been studying some new material. The biggest new material being some more Nukemarine memrise decks, and Clozemaster as of this month. So like... this Eons of improvement is after a long ass gap of no study, a cram review, and some just beyond last-times-progress kind of new study. It is a HUGE difference to me in how it feels.
I did not use a dictionary at all this time. I did not play slow either, I read at a speed much more bearable, I comprehended most sentences totally (understanding words because of a mix of knowing most words, knowing the context for the words since I know KH2 WELL, knowing Hanzi from chinese, and thanks to Clozemaster of all things feeling a lot better/quicker with Japanese grammar comprehension), and a few sentences I knew the overall gist because of recognizing the Hanzi (tho they were being used in words that aren’t similar to Chinese), the grammar overall (the rough intention of the sentence), and knowing KH2 well enough to remember the main idea of th English sentence. So it was overall a much more pleasant, easygoing experience this time around playing! It was something where I COULD play 50 hours of Japanese KH2 now.
This kind of showed me some things: first that knowing a basis in chinese (for me) makes a huge difference. Kanji now make words easier for me to learn and guess. I can now recognize when some pronunciations are somewhat similar to Chinese words. I can recognize when some kanji are used to mean Different things from Chinese (since I know the English context too). I can also now actually Like and Appreciate that KH2 specifically uses kanji in some speech bubbles and scenes then hiragana for the same words at other times - it gives me a chance to use context to see both versions of the word and learn both the pronunciation and kanji a bit more. Now I have katakana English like words and kanji (in the sense of their similarities to Hanzi) and my basic grammar grasp to rely on to parse sentences which makes all of it much easier. For me chinese was just easier, and that’s now paying off also in making Japanese easier in some ways than it was before.
I also appreciate now why “prior context” and “comprehensible input” are encouraged so much. My effort level is comfortable and NOT draining, so I could’ve kept my playing for hours and I did not need a dictionary for new words because I had TONS of context. Part of this is KH2 being a game I know super well (so even back at year 2 it was doable if draining when no other video game probably would’ve been doable at all). So it makes sense now it would be the first comfortable feeling one. It is VERY comprehensible input for me, especially now with some of the Japanese improvements I’ve made.
Whereas I tried to play crisis core a month ago (doable but DRAINING in part because I knew the game so comprehensible but I didn’t HAVE the game remembered by heart like KH2 so I had to slow down to read everything slowly and figure out words much slower with no prior meaning in my head for many parts), and persona 3 (which was doable but DRAINING in part because I have little prior context compared to cc or KH2 and in part because it has so much reading). Also KH2 is easier to read than cc or persona 3 - kh2 is obviously meant for age 10+ and so the amount of text I’m required to read is shorter, a lot of conversational stuff and not layered (cc had a lot of technical paragraphs of directions for missions and persona is aimed at older teens and has much more like “think about it more long term” conversations which I struggle more to parse). Also just persona 3 has so much dialogue I started speed reading just to get to a save point which felt Draining. Whereas KH2 the reading is comfortable so I don’t read too slow, and so it doesn’t feel as draining since it’s not slow nor do I have to rush at lower comprehension to get through it - I can just read and comprehend everything as much as I can at a reasonably non draining pace.
Also I DO think Clozemaster (so kudos to u app) is actually helping noticeably. I’m doing Clozemaster Japanese by common word tracks (still in the 100 most common words sentences and almost done). I’ve been doing listening mode and then reading sentences after. I can TELL it’s helped me already with the following. I’m doing better at recognizing some grammar structure particles/words/conjugations in various forms and levels of politeness. I now have much less issue telling how to separate sentences into word/grammar functions - it makes everything just much easier to start being able to segment my sentences as I read so I can just pinpoint WHAT parts I know versus don’t know and what their rough function is (and since in KH2 I know the English lines usually it makes it way easier to guess what words mean roughly what English translation). I also read some manga during this past month that’s also helped with this skill. I noticed Clozemaster also is just helping with it a lot since in Clozemaster the politeness level varies and stuff so I’m forced to practice guessing and figuring it out more with Clozemaster sentences over and over. The listening mode has helped because I can tell that some of the most common words I can hear more instinctively now and read aloud at a more normal pace now. I still CLEARLY read over listening when the subtitles in KH2 are there if I don’t know a word, so my listening has HUNDREDS or likely thousands of hours to go (my Chinese is much much better). But I can already notice the sheer fact Clozemaster listening question mode is forcing me to 1 HEAR Japanese more (and I need like what 2000 hours listening) and 2 start recognizing more easily at least recognizing words I’ve learned when I hear them (whereas before I would struggle to hear certain words even if I’d studied just because I’d read-studied a lot but not actually heard much of those words much). Now this all isn’t a huge help with new words in KH2 since I’m learning to read them from the game but my listening isn’t picking them up or Parsing them well. But as far as IN Clozemaster: yes the constant audio word drilling is helping me recognize words by sound which is great since thanks to Chinese kanji recognition is now not intensely difficult, it’s the sound recognition and match up to spelling that’s now the major confusion for me. I mean grammar is also confusing.. and will take years... I do think Clozemaster forcing me to practice interpreting the grammar somewhat with nothing to help me is helping me at least feel less drained by the grammar. I used Clozemaster before for french and chinese at the stage between graded readers and actual native speaker material, and I think for Japanese it’s also Good for this purpose. Clozemaster is good for a lot of immersion-like sentence reading practice, with tools to make it easier like a translation and mostly words you know in each sentence. Making it a bit easier than just diving into the deep end into a random novel. I do think it helps with preparing you for less learner-tailored materials a bit while still being easier than native speaker materials so you can practice without feeling youre drowning.
anyway ahh. WOOH I PLAYED KH2 in japanese today!!! I HAD FUN
gonna do it some more.
kh2 is maybe THE original reason i started trying to learn japanese. its really fun playing it now.
—-
And finally, while I’m at it: I am ALMOST done with the Sundial arc in Guardian Listening Reading wise. I’m on chapter 17. I have like 2 days left so who knows maybe I can manage to finish the sundial arc we’ll see.
What I mostly did this month was Redo L-R chapter 1-12 with a second audiobook, read the novel print version up to chapter 12, read chapter 1-2 in the traditional print version, also read maybe 4 chapters of other random things, listened to audiobook files of stuff overall idk 20+ times while repeating after a lot of lines, did a small amount of Clozemaster chinese (mostly just Radio mode), did 30 min - 1 hour writing or speaking language exchange sessions once a week, and watch a bunch of Chinese shows with English subs this month while repeating after a lot of lines.
As you can tell my reading Amount lowered significantly since the past couple months. However, I think I’ve pushed up my listening amounts a little.

(1/3) Bruh I just binge read Limerence (again) and I wondered how many words it has in total so I pulled out my calculator and I added the words from all of the chapters together because what else would I do with my life and theeeen I googled how many words a book has on average and 👀 "Most adult books are about 90,000 words, and no longer than 100,000 words" alright so Chapters 1-18 has 88.400 words so that would already be a freaking book.
(2/3) Chapters 19-30 has 93.700 words and 31-33 has 62.800 words. In total it has 244.900 words... You literally wrote 2.5 books for us which is insane and it's for fucking free? I mean you actually graced us with 2.5 books. And I know it's a fanfic but whatever it has the length of two books and quite frankly the quality of them too. And people binge read 2.5 books which is also crazy. I mean have you ever considered becoming a "real" author? Cause you got your first customer right here🙋‍♀️😉
(3/3) Also you seem like such a cool fucking person I want to be friends with you soo bad *sobs* but in all honesty you really are a gift to the fandom for actually having written an outstanding atla fanfic? With the characters being believable?? They are all in-character?? And the plot makes sense? And it's not super freaking cringy? And girl you have so many people hooked. Anyway I think I shouldn't bother you anymore. Have a wonderful day!❤️ -🐋
Tumblr media
🐋 ANON 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I swear I’ve gotten your asks and I’m not ignoring you, my inbox is just flooded lol. Also, how are you? I hope you’re doing alright, babe - I never got a chance to ask, I’m sorry 🤧
First off, the fact that you actually did research and calculated this makes me want to hug you tons because I have the attention span of a two-year-old 😂
So, funny thing (and you may kill me when I tell you this) - the word counts from I think chapters 4-8 are messed up. Meaning, there are more words than what I wrote down 👀👀 Also, because I’m going through my older chapters, and re-editing to better suit my writing (because I was so nervous about writing and posting that my writing was stiff) the chapters have actually gotten longer.
Like I can’t believe I wrote 244.900 words.
You telling me that’s 2.5 books is scary and exciting because I never thought I wrote that much. Like this whole time, I just wrote to write and when you put into perspective like that it’s like holy shit what monster have I created 😮
But I could only wish of becoming an author.
I always enjoyed writing and research, which is why I got into philosophy - but creative writing and storytelling is like another unknown joy of mine that I really got to explore with Limerence!
I think my biggest dream (and I say dream because this will in no way happen), is Yue coming to life in ATLA.
Seeing a full comic strip of her and Zuko seeing each other for the first time and their romance unfolding would make me asjdsdkskadjkasdj - my heartuu. Like the image of Zuko and Yue cuddling in bed that @cloudsong25 drew makes me FEEL DAMNIT.
A few people also mention it, and I always get all giddy thinking about the thought of what would happen if Limerence was canon, and Yue and Zuko ended up together. Like sometimes when my friends and I talk, we forget that Ying Yue isn’t apart of the ATLA universe, and get so sad. I actually broke my friends' ultimate pairing of Maiko and I felt terrible 🙈
And babe, at this point we are friends - I consider all you guys my friends 😂 I have no filter at this point, shit-post all the time and you guys always join in and I love it.
Take care, sweetie, I’ll be answering those others asks soon~! 🥰🥰

as far as other stuff ive written...i don’t have a whole lot bc i hardly ever finish anything i start lmao i’m definitely working on it and getting better but it’s rough
so i’m gonna link to the two girls watching the eclipse story on gumroad, and also i’m gonna plug the ~sapphique~ astrology haiku collection that i wrote, both of those are from like 2-2.5 years ago i think?
so here’s the story
and here’s the haiku collection
and really im just gonna go through my google drive and see if there’s anything salvageable (or just. completed lmfao)
~~~
ok so here’s actually a short story i wrote back in like...february of this year, i think? i was trying to do a 30-day short story challenge and only ended up writing the first one klsjdlkfjsdklfs but yeah here’s that (but also this is a first draft and i didn’t spend all that much time on it so i don’t hate it but i really don’t think this is indicative of how i write tbh!)
i feel really obnoxious for including this bc it’s not a short story and it’s actually something i posted on tungle a loooong time ago, back when those “x-gothic” posts were all over the place, but i still kinda like it so here’s that
beyond that i have like a wolfstar fic on a03 from probably 2015 jdfklsjdf;lksd and then some poetry if you want that too? just lemme know!
i’m working on a long ass drarry fic rn but i’m making progress and like. i know i say this every time but fingers crossed i’ll actually finish it at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later, and i’ll def link it here when i post it!
but anyway again thank you so much for sending this ask bc you truly made my whole day :)
Sup guys, Tenka (Aka Ponzorz) here - I said I’d write a post about how I self studied Japanese, sooooo I guess this is it. I learnt Japanese from Zero to Fluent in about 2.5 years, and this is my method. It’s probably not the most interesting (I didn’t watch any anime… lol… I only started watching Anime these past 1, 2 years - back then I only read  a few Manga, and that was in English) and it’s hard, but maybe it can shed some light on to a study regime you can set up for yourself.
Before reading, keep in mind that there is never a single best way to study Japanese, and the most important thing about studying a language is not what textbook you have or what shows you watch - it’s always that you keep yourself going and push yourself to carry on.
I had a pretty set way I studied Japanese, so I’ll talk about that here, and since I gained proficiency I have found a lot of other methods to help people who are learning Japanese - and I’ll draw on those experiences too to inform people in this post.
Ikuzooooo.
[ Learning the Writing System ] This is step one. Japanese has three sets of difference characters. Most people don’t get it at first, but I’ll just try to explain each one below.
Hiragana (あいうえお - this is the Japanese vowels a-i-u-e-o in Hiragana) - This is the most basic one, you can use this to write everything you need to - but only knowing this one would be like some ponyo/sousuke level writing… aka like a five year old. As a person learning Japanese for a second/third/fourth/99th language though, Hiragana is definitely a solid start.
Katakana (アイウエオ - this is the Japanese vowels a-i-u-e-o in Katakana) Everything that can be written in Hiragana can be written in Katakana - it’s like two different versions of the same alphabet.
However, Katakana is mostly used for ① Foreign vocabulary/Proper nouns that can’t be written in Kanji, and ② Emphasis/Nuance.  ①  is “Borrowed Words”, ie. Words in Japanese that originated from another language, will be written in Katakana. For example, Camera (“Kyamera” キャメラ), and “Naruto” is ナルト <- This is Katakana.  The second situation of emphasis/nuance is more difficult to explain, but just think of it this way: Writing “Baka” in Katakana, can give off a different feel to if it were written in Hiragana.
Kanji - Kanji is very, very, very, important. Most people beginning their Japanese studies won’t know very much Kanji, which is totally normal - and they will probably hate it at some point. But, writing Japanese without Kanji islikereadingenglishwithoutspacesinbetweenthewords. It kills the reader and if you are serious about studying Japanese, learn yo’ Kanji. Kanji are chinese characters that make up portions of a verb in Japanese, or a lot of nouns can be written completely in Kanji. Hiragana is used to support Kanji and used to fill particles and prepositions and subject markers etc, in a sentence, as those things do not have a designated Kanji - or it is not commonly used. It probably sounds confusing as hell right now but you’ll get it really quickly once you start learning. Every Kanji has a reading, so it may be hard to learn the different readings for each Kanji but it gets easier as you go, I swear.
I started learning the writing system slowly and piecemeal, just writing the seperate kana on paper and getting more or less used to them and memorising the readings. I talk about how I learnt this in the next section, but in the meanwhile… I thought of another method.
This may be off topic but I learnt how to read Korean Hangul in like an hour by playing an online “drill” game, so I think from that experience it may be a lot faster to learn Katakana and Hiragana that way.
I found some drillers where you see the kana and just type in the romaji (ie. english version of Japanese lol):
http://kana.icann.se/
http://kagan.mactane.org/software/kana-drill.html
Try those!
( A bit about watching Anime - I think if Anime/dramas is what you’re interested in, definitely watch it. Just gonna put it out there, doing that alone probably won’t get you fluent. But it’s important because it keeps you interested, and it’s about immersion and keeping in contact with the language. :D Don’t spend 90% of your “Japanese study” in anime, but if it’s what you enjoy, go for it and it will help.
I recommend Slice of Life anime over Shonen - why? Because you’d use SoL anime dialogue more. FYI No one seriously uses “Dattebayo/-ttebayo” in Japanese, ever, “Bankai” is zero help if you want to make conversation, and most Shonen protagonists and villains speak in such an informal/brash way I’d only recommend if you want to get in to a fight. ;9 <3 )
[Actually studying the grammar and the vocab]
Because there is not much point in knowing the writing system without actually understanding what all those squiggly characters mean, it’s best to press on and learn some vocab and grammar.
First, I’ll talk about the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). JLPT is a benchmark exam for Japanese, it has 5 levels from 5 -1. 5 being the easiest, and 1 being the hardest. You don’t have to worry about sitting the exam or anything, but it’s just a really solid curriculum to base your Japanese studies off.
I started studying off
Tim’s Takamatsu -
this website is practically my godsend. I printed out everything, had it bound in to a book - you’ll see that most of the tutorials here are in Romaji. How I studied was I scribed in the Katakana, Hiragana, and Kanji (Where applicable) under the Romaji. This helped me memorise and write Hiragana and Katakana really fast, get used to using basic Kanji, and learn all the basic grammar and vocab up till around N3 level. This took me about 3 months. Then I’d say it’s all downhill once you hit N3 level.
Even after I was through with Tim’s Takamatsu, I bought Schaums Outlines of Japanese Grammar just to help me solidify stuff. It’s not the best book nor the most interesting book, but it helped.
http://www.tanos.co.uk/  is a fantastic website to look at all the vocab/grammar you need for each JLPT standard, and strive to learn them and gradually progress from 5-1. I printed off the grammar lists from Tanos, and learnt all the ones I wasn’t sure of.
I also listened to a lot of podcasts, like Japanese 101. This helped me with listening skills, and I also learnt a lot of vocab and grammar. I find the stuff you learn from podcasts really memorable, compared to what you’d learn by reading off grammar books all the time. It’s a nice change.
Extra Materials for Basic Grammar etc - these are awesome, kudos to the people who made these - print it, stick it up in your room! I wish I had found  them when I was studying. (T_T) http://cheatsheets.nihonshock.com/sheets/basic-japanese/
http://cheatsheets.nihonshock.com/digital-cheat-sheets/cool-japanese/
http://www.tofugu.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/japanese-particles-cheatsheet1.pdf
There links below are more explanatory stuff rather than “cheat sheets”. It’s like Tim’s Takamatsu - so I would use them to supplement each other.
http://www.guidetojapanese.org/grammar_guide.pdf
http://thejapanesepage.com/grammar.htm
http://www.japaneseverbconjugator.com/JVerbList.asp
This is probably one of the most important parts of my Japanese studying journey. Don’t give up if you’ve made it this far! :D You can do it!
Okedoke, so how do you get from N3 to N1? You’ve gotten yourself this far, so just keep doing what you’ve been doing the whole time and don’t give up. Keep referring back to the JLPT standards to see what you need to still learn, in terms of grammar, and go for it.
N2, N1, levels require a lot of Kanji readings and Vocab Knowledge. How I tackled this, was by flashcards. I played a game on my phone called “Japanese Flash” (on iOS) and it was the only “game” I had on my phone for almost a year. Anki, or any other flashcard system will work the same. I find flashcards the most effective way for me to pick up vocab/kanji readings the fastest - the hardest thing about it is persevering. I’d play the flashcards on the bus, at home, in bed, in the shower jks  , some days I felt like I was going to throw up from flash carding… but it’s a bump you’ve gotta get over. It gets better as you pick up more readings, and you’ll find you’re able to correctly guess heaps of Kanji combinations as you go.
I had the book “A Dictionary of Intermediate Japanese Grammar”, and the beginners version of that book, to help me through all the difficult grammar. Plus google.
http://www.imabi.net/ is a fantastic website too, with basic - advanced Japanese grammar. I wish I found this earlier as well. (T_T)
[Notes about my particular circumstances] So hitting N1 took me about 2.5 years. I do realise this is probably not what most people want to do - spend so much time manically studying Japanese, I had tunnel vision for a long time and it was literally what I spent my spare time doing, so hear me out.
I think at that point in my life, I was a stupid teen and I really hated my own situation, resented it, and I wanted to leave my city so bad and go somewhere - anywhere. In short, I was pretty desperate. For a lot of rebellious and otherwise personal reasons, I decided to go to Japan. (Eg. My family is Chinese, and I’ve been fed loads of nationalistic shit since toddlerhood about how Chinese people hate Japan blah blah don’t go there blah blah all Japanese are bad blah blah which I refused to believe and I wanted to see Japan with my own eyes since I was sure I would be able to make friends since I think there are nice people, as well as terrible people, eeeeverywhere in the world in any place.)
I needed a scholarship in Japanese, so that’s why I studied madly. Otherwise, I’d never be able to have the $$ leave and I felt like I’d have been trapped in a city I don’t belong in, forever. Yeah… >_> I had serious attitude issues, pls don’t judge me. I love my city now that I’m back, and I ought to have given the people around me more credit. .___.
That aside though, I want to talk about Kanji. I realise in this guide, I never talked much about learning to familliarize with or write Kanji. I suppose the easiest way to explain this would be, well I’m Chinese in origin so that wasn’t much of an issue to me, but that would not only be misleading, but discouraging to a lot of people who don’t have a chinese background. There is no easy way learning how to write Kanji, you have to put in the legwork - that’s all there is to it. I never had an education in Chinese, English would be my first language as I passed my years from toddler onwards in Middle Earth and various other places, but I suppose one could say that I did my Kanji learning prior to learning the rest of my Japanese. Strict parents = learning at least X amount of Kanji/day before I could leave the house to go run around outside, and I distinctly remember one summer when I was around 11, my Kanji knowledge sky rocketed as a result of being forced to stay inside and learn it all summer.
I wrote a Kanji 20+ times till I memorised it, and that’s probably how I got my foundation. Once I’d started studying Japanese, I still had to get used to how Kanji was used in the Japanese language system - a lot of stuff is written differently, and my Kanji wasn’t perfect to begin with so I had to learn a heap of new ones, and since all the readings were completely different to what I was used to, I had to learn those too (hence flash carding). I think my Chinese probably got better as a result of studying Japanese, lol…. I’m serious. >_>
hdmi can transfer audio.. but.. not usb of course..
I don’t want these cables.. I mean.. if I pull it.. then.. plug can just break.. and I can’t see them on the back of the computer.. and.. it’s longer distance from a back of a computer than from a monitor..
and on monitor.. they’re connected.. on the bottom. so.. they wouldn’t break if they would get pulled
I have fans on the front of the case.. so.. I don’t have any ports.. on the front..
should I connect mouse and keyboard to one usb port??
or should I get separate cable..
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/800417446?t=1h59m7s
no way it was worth it..
oh wait... I forgot.. that there are.. like.. 8 runes..
https://youtu.be/wO5FhAKW-Hk?t=323
xD
they all didn’t understand his genius..
https://youtu.be/wO5FhAKW-Hk?t=625
there are 8 runes
https://youtu.be/wO5FhAKW-Hk?t=681
jesus christ.. just count one rune as 2 times more value.. because enemy can get it
https://youtu.be/wO5FhAKW-Hk?t=723
just simply say that it’s worth 2 times more value.. it’s 2 times higher value.
so it was 800 bucks
tbh I can just use hot glue for that.. I wish I had the black hot glue.. because.. it looks better
my aim is better after playing few times
my first impression was.. that she doesn’t look old. but.. someone in comments said that she’s more than 50 year old
“ Born: November 27, 1966 (age 53 years), “
I though like.. 50 something is not maybe that old.. but.. imagine being 70.. you know
66.. I was just checking.. when was born someone 67. almost same year
because she was also looking really young for her age
one year younger
would people have that much energy to still work out like jungdayeon when they’re 53 years old?
like.. 70.. I wouldn’t probably be able to do such long workouts
at 70.. probably
but I don’t know. maybe there are some people like that I don’t know
does she do like. running?? like..
does she do like.. other exercises than what she’s showing on videos
Results From a Different Fanfic Community Survey (old, from Tumblr)
Hey everyone! I saw the survey post going around (thanks for doing that u/cephalopod11!), and it reminded me of a survey that me and my friend had done literally years ago on tumblr, but never got around to sharing! We were making a documentary about fandom for our senior project (yeah, i was cool in high school) but because of time constraints and lack of editing software/skills, we never actually finished the doc, and we never got to share the survey results. Which is a bummer, because it had over 2,000 responses. So I thought you guys might appreciate it! It might be interesting to view the results from tumblr and the results from reddit side by side to get a more accurate view of fanfiction readers all over.
I typed up a summary of the most relevant questions but you should be able to view the google generated summary here (which is also proof of the response numbers and things like that lol). There are a lot of questions at the end about reader insert fanfiction because for some reason that was going to be a big segment. Legitimately i cannot remember why we thought that was an interesting or good idea, but we also have another survey we did just for people who read reader insert stuff if anyone is interested in that.
A few other things to keep in mind:
Our questions were kind of badly worded, which is unfortunate since we got so many responses.
Since we were in high school we definitely had an age bias which is very clear in the how old are you question lol.
This was done in march of 2018 so the data is 2 years old.
I think it got reblogged by a big drarry account which may have skewed all the numbers towards the Harry Potter fandom specifically. So is any of this accurate?? God only knows.
maggie if you are reading this, I'm sorry i didn't ask first before i posted this but I knew you wouldn't care and also you take forever to respond to texts. sorry love you lol
Question 1: How old are you? 12 or under: .8% (19 responses)
13: 3.9% (90)
14: 6.3% (146)
15: 9.7% (223)
16: 10.2% (234)
17: 9.8% (227)
18+: 59.3% (1,366 - clearly we made a huge mistake with this question lmao)
Q2: If 12 & under or 18+, what is your exact age?
(We had people write these in, but I’m compiling them into age groups for simplicity. 1,205 out of 1385 who were supposed to wrote in)
11: 5
18-24: 757
25-34: 327
35-44: 52
45+: 23
The oldest response was 62!
Q3: What is your gender?
My biggest regret with this whole survey was not differentiating between cis male/female and trans male/female. At the time we only really cared what gender people identified as and didn’t want to differentiate but now I wish we had that data. :(
Female: 80.4% (1,853)
Male: 4.2% (97)
Non-Binary: 9.9% (229)
Prefer not to say: 3% (63)
Other (these responses ranged from “questioning” to “what is gender” to “i dont knoooooow): 2.5%
Q3: What is your sexuality?
I was a dumbass and forgot to put asexual- some people wrote it in but it the numbers for that are probably wonky
Bisexual: 32.9% (759)
Q4: What fandom, characters, or people do you read fanfiction about? Check all that apply
People could check multiple things, so these percents do not add up to 100
Harry Potter: 82% (1,891)
Marvel Cinematic Universe: 45.5% (1049)
Sherlock: 33.3% (767)
Supernatural: 25.9% (598)
There were a ton more but those were the top 10. I think you can see all of them on the google generated results.
Q5: What fandom, character, or person do you read the MOST fanfiction about? Please only write one
Again, I regret the wording on this one. Should’ve just been fandom. Also, we should have just had them select from the same list because the write-in is a nightmare.
Harry Potter: 682
Sherlock: 68
Supernatural: 51
MCU: 44
Star Wars: 40
There’s literally over 1,000 more responses that are impossible to sort. Sorry :(
