the Onikakushi Usoda scene is so interesting bc it has keiichi insisting that this is Out Of Character for rena, that this isn't the rena he's always known, that this isn't his rena - even though he's only known her for a few weeks - bc she did something that broke his image of her as the Ideal Cute Girl. he never brings into question who he is as a person to the reader, and keiichi here is the audience's surrogate. he never looks within himself or considers the unreliability of his perspective of the events surrounding him. this is very meaningful. you, as the reader, think nothing of how this boy was just screaming at his friend, how he'd grabbed her, and how he was hurting her while demanding she tells him everything he feels he's entitled to know, despite hiding things himself. the moment rena gets angry and snaps back at him though, that's actually a reason to be scared, a reason to feel as though something is inherently wrong. after all it's wrong for girls to present themselves as anything but available and nice at all times. anything else makes them ‘abnormal’. ‘hysterical’, even.
we focus entirely on the horror of rena's seemingly sudden change, so the harm keiichi is causing becomes a literal afterthought the same way it’s one for him, even though that’s the real horror of the situation. he's an unreliable narrator, and an example of how the narration can lie to you while criticizing you for taking it at face value. keiichi is SO self-centered in this arc that even when he learns that satoshi is a houjou, and is satoko's brother - he never stops to consider what this means for satoko or the club as a whole who actually knew him, it's all about Him and His Problems (HE’S LITERALLY DEAD FOR ALL THEY KNOW OF COURSE THEY’RE GOING TO AVOID TALKING ABOUT HIM ESPECIALLY WHEN IT MIGHT BE TRIGGERING FOR SATOKO IN PARTICULAR). keiichi’s viewpoint first and foremost is that he's THE victim. that’s the most important thing to him throughout this arc. even when mion tells him to drop the 'satoshi' act bc it's actively hurtful for those around him who are still grieving satoshi’s loss, all he does is hurt her the same way he’s been hurting rena.
we also have ooishi (mfw you dig into a girl's background and medical history with mental illness then talk about it to her classmate without her consent bc you want to use him as bait for your investigation!!!!!! THERE’S A REASON THE ONLY TWO ARCS WHERE OOISHI DOESN’T SUCK HARD AS A PERSON ARE MINAGOROSHI AND MATSURIBAYASHI WHERE HE FINALLY STOPS ACTING LIKE SUCH A FUCKING COP (HIGURASHI SAYS ACAB BTW REAL AND TRUE)) telling keiichi about rena, and even when it’s BLATANTLY clear that the three male friends hurt rena in some way and they are ashamed of their actions which is why they seemingly took a deal to not press charges together with the school so as to not have charges pressed against them, we have keiichi doubling down instead of stopping to consider that, maybe, she didn’t “undergo a sudden change” and attacked them before breaking all of the windows in the school for no reason whatsoever. maybe they did something to trigger her. he never stops to consider that, maybe, rena is actually a victim in the situation. “rena has a disorder that normal people don’t” is a funny line when taken out of context, but it’s just keiichi continuing to frame rena as Abnormal, Cursed, and Weird for being mentally ill. it’s especially clear in the door slamming scene, where it’s just rena trying to pacify a clearly stressed out keiichi with some light teasings, only for everything to backfire and for keiichi to react so violently...but, still, rena continues to stand outside, apologizing. she feels so bad. no matter how ‘monstrous’ keiichi’s actions become, she’ll continue to be there for him bc she understands.
the fact that tsumihoroboshi reveals that keiichi shot a little girl and he also damaged her eye the same way rena permanently damaged one of the boys’ eyes is literally the narrative chiding YOU AND KEIICHI for ever judging rena for the same crime he committed, and the reason they never elaborate on why rena did this is bc it literally doesn’t matter! you and keiichi aren’t owed rena’s background and the things she wishes to keep a secret to justify to yourself not treating her like a monster! not treating someone like a monster for their past and struggles with mental illness is just basic decency, they don’t owe you the details or justifications. tsumihoroboshi keiichi agonizing over the girls not knowing his admittedly terrible past and them being like "we don't need to know literally everything about you, man, if you want to keep this shit a secret, it's okay" is very important bc it’s fine to draw boundaries and it’s okay to keep secrets, you don’t need to tell everything about yourself and have others do the same thing back to consider them friends!!! secrets are important in friendship!!!!!!
this is also a good example of how you can make ANYTHING seem scary when it’s taken out of context. you can misinterpret anything you want when you’re missing critical information. you can ignore everything about a person you know and all the obvious clues that point towards the opposite conclusion if you want to demonize them and victimize yourself. if you want you will believe you’re right. that’s what keiichi keeps doing this arc every time he’s told something vague about rena by ooishi.
onikakushi after tsumihoroboshi’s recontextualization becomes a horror story told from the perspective of the actual ‘monster’, arguing its own justification and validating itself for hurting others while framing them as the monsters. the ones with the reason to be afraid and run away in this arc are always rena and mion, but they don't, not at any point - rather, they keep trying to reach out to him, bc while keiichi insists on seeing them as monsters, they never see him as one regardless of his actions, and keiichi isn’t a monster either bc despite the fact that his actions are fueled by his self centeredness and ego, it's also his shelterdness and own trauma and he’s still a victim struggling with psychosis. he deserves to be forgiven despite everything. there’s a reason onikakushi’s poem is the one about forgiveness, THIS IS WHAT RENA IS TRYING TO TELL KEIICHI.
onikakushi is also really tragic from rena’s perspective especially with how higurashi is painfully aware of the reality wherein girls have to present themselves as nice all the time, they need to be this ideal to be palatable (rena’s whole Cute Schoolgirl thing is an act born from her internalized misogyny basically), and yet even when they do, they’re still susceptible to be subjected to violence based on the assumptions of boys and men. this is something that has been haunting rena for her entire life.
she came back to hinamizawa, regretting her parents’ divorce and hurting others, promising she'll never hurt anyone again, and promising she'll always be nice, no matter what happens to her, then keiichi comes along and everything seems fine, they’re friends and he’s kind even though he’s a little mean sometimes, but despite the kindness he showed initially, he still ended up screaming at her, grabbing her, getting mad at her for reasons she can't understand. that’s what her father did. maybe the boys in her school too.
rena is also being affected negatively by everything happening since the festival. she’s manic, she’s scared of falling victim to the curse bc she’s always felt like she’s being punished by oyashiro-sama for ‘sinning’ (leaving hinamizawa), and she has her own struggles with mental illness, but despite all of this she’s still trying so hard to be good, trying so hard to reach out to keiichi and she even explicitly says this at multiple points - that she doesn’t want the same thing that happened to satoshi to happen to him, and she feels so guilty for not being able to do anything a year ago when satoshi disappeared, bc she knows what it’s like to struggle with these things and how horrifying of an experience that is, but keiichi just refuses to let her help - yet rena continues trying, even as keiichi is bludgeoning her with the metal bat, she’s trying, she always will, bc she wants to grant him the thing she wasn’t given while struggling with the same things. she knows how scary it is and she doesn’t want anyone to feel that scariness. if nobody is going to forgive keiichi SHE WILL, but keiichi needs to forgive her too for things to begin changing. rena. rena. rena. i love you rena...
the whole point is that rena isn't some kind of monster who's going to indiscriminately attack others bc she's ~oh so crazy~ beneath the cute girl mask (tsumihoroboshi makes this blatantly clear with how rena only kills rina and teppei bc she feels like she’s been backed into a corner) and keiichi needs to stop being ableist (keiichi himself is pretty sympathetic despite this ofc, bc you understand from being in his head how he arrived at all of these conclusions). after all higurashi is about how mental illness is pathologized and demonized especially in women.
keiichi is constantly torn between two assumptions in this arc: 1) that his friends and rena especially are evil people who have been lying to him all this time or 2) that they’re being possessed by oyashiro-sama to do these things bc the curse exists, but isn’t the core of both of these assumptions pretty ableist? you shouldn’t vilify people for being mentally ill in such a way and you shouldn’t blame their actions on things such as Being Possessed and Being Cursed.
watanagashi also follows up with shion who’s very much a girl attacking and hurting others, bc of how she's been hurt all her life to show that ignoring the person she is makes everything worse for her even if it doesn’t justify what she’s doing. after all keiichi is content to blame what she’s doing on the ‘demon inside her’ instead of trying to see her for who she is. his thoughtless actions and words in this arc lead to much hurt for mion and shion. tatarigoroshi is him selfishly killing teppei in a such a way that he’s robbing satoko of any agency or say in her abuse without considering how this could impact her. his actions leave her even MORE traumatized, blaming herself for how everything turned out for the worst.
when you think of the syndrome as an allegory, keiichi breaking through the syndrome with the help of memory leaks isn't just him overcoming his paranoia, but also him learning to look beyond himself and see how others could be hurt by his actions and words etc etc, which is why tsumihoroboshi is about him atoning for how he hurt everyone and helping rena in much of the same way she was trying to help him in onikakushi. it’s him finally returning the favor. tsumihoroboshi is higurashi’s turning point, bc keiichi finally stops being such a casual misogynist, he stops demonizing rena and tries to understand her, he starts to realize that his struggles and experiences aren’t inherently more valid than the girls’ in his life, and he starts to listening to them more...

Ulder Ravengard
have you met Ulder and gone dude why are you so mean to your son? do you want to write some fun angst for Wyll? well then do I have some meta for you.
This is a summary of the events of Murder in Baldur's Gate, the adventure that introduced Ulder + a lot of other plot points for BG3, plus some bits from his later appearances in Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus and Rise of Tiamat. MiBG isn't widely run, but this is heavy spoilers, so reader beware!
Murder in Baldur's Gate is an adventure very few people have heard of and also one of the most critical to the plot of BG3 (aside from Descent into Avernus which it was introduced as a direct companion/sequel to). It was part of the D&D Next playtest for 5e, and was written so that it could be played in 3e, 4e, or with the playtest rules, and is thus a really weird but fun adventure to run.
The core concept is this: Grand Duke Abdel Adrian (AKA Gorion's Ward AKA Charname from BG1/BG2) is attacked by the last remaining Bhaalspawn. One of them kills the other, and the survivor is turned into the Slayer, who the party is introduced helping to take down. What no one knows is that this also led directly to the resurrection of Bhaal, who proceeds to lurk in the shadows, manipulating events.
The main structure of the module is that there are three characters vying to take control of the city in the upheaval - Duke Torlin Silvershield who wants to consolidate power for the patriars and himself, Rilsa Rael of the Guild who's trying to start a populist uprising, and Ulder Ravengard, who's vying for the open Duke spot and trying to get the Flaming Fist more control over the city.
They're also all three touched by Bhaal, slowly driven over the deep end to drive the city into chaos. There are 10 stages, each with a mission from one of the three. If things go off as written (either because the party, working for that antagonist, did as they were told, or if they failed to intervene) they gain a rank of 'Bhaal's Favor' - with the winner ascending as the Chosen of Bhaal and wreaking havoc on the city.
Who is Ulder Ravengard at the start?
"Ravengard is not a zealot or a fascist - not yet, anyway."
Blaze Ulder Ravengard is the fourth son of a lower city smith, who is intensely loyal to the Flaming Fist, believing them to be the backbone of the city. He's repeatedly described as being disciplined, focused, and utilitarion. He has "no interest in domestic matters" and his soldiers respect rather than love him.
However, unlike most of the Fist, his goals are for the good of the city. He "seethes over the eagerness of ill-doers to control others, steal the fruits of honest folk's labor, and otherwise misuse hardworking people" - what manifests mainly in a crusade against the Guild, but he's no fan of the patriars and their corruption either.
Specifically, he plans to "wage war" against the Guild - and is aware that "wars aren't won without casualties or collateral damage" - pointing out his blind spot that "he excuses all actions taken for the public good while simultaneously deploring identical deeds that others carry out for less altruistic reasons"
Ulder's main flaw is that he thinks the ends justify the means, and that he's willing to do anything to protect the "honest" citizens of the city against crime. He's fine with intense methods if they produce results. That is to say, he's a cop.
To be honest my whole meta on Ulder really can be summed down with "ACAB" but we'll keep going anyways.
Murder in Baldur's Gate
It's Uktar 1482, at the Founder's Day celebration, and Grand Duke Abdel Adriain is dead. Ulder was his right hand, and was there for the death - but unarmed, because the Flaming Fist don't have authority in the Upper City, only the City Watch, who due to poor planning were too far away to do anything to help.
Ulder is the only one of the three antagonists to meet with the players openly, and invites them to Wyrm Crossing where he offers temporary membership in the Flaming Fist. His plan is to regain order, investigate the death (he thinks the Guild is behind it) and put himself up as Adrian's replacement.
Most of the module occurs in "stages" where each antagonist has their own plan going, which the party can either help or hinder.
Ravengard shuts down two gambling dens run by the Guild in the lower city, boarding them up and bringing the owners in for questioning.
Ravengard sends extra Flaming Fist to patrol the docks to check on workers from the Outer City he believe to be behind recent vandalism and tax robberies - they proceed to enact some police brutality.
Several statues (including the Beloved Ranger) are vandalized by a group of patriar youths. Whoever the party turns them over to gains a rank of Bhaal's Favor
Ravengard begins campaigning for Duke. Traditionally, the spot has ties to the Lower City and the Flaming Fist, but the Parliament of Peers wants a patriar instead - Wyllyck Caldwell. Ravengard blackmails Caldwell to get him to step away.
Ravengard convinces the Harbormaster to raise tariffs on luxury items (in response to the stage 2 sumptuary laws Silvershield enacts)
The Court of the Fist is set up - an illegal military tribunal where the Flaming Fist begin capturing suspected Guild members and sympathizers,
Ravengard closes down the Baldur's Mouth under suspicion the Guild is using it to communicate.
Rioting in the city breaks out, the Flaming Fist cracks down violently if the players don't intervene
Ravengard declares martial law. Not complying with the Flaming Fist is grounds for execution.
Ravengard sets up public executions. Over a hundred are killed within the first hour.
It Ends With Blood: if Ulder Ravengard is the Chosen of Bhaal, he reigns death on the city from above using the trebuchets in the Seatower of Balduran.
Event 10 occurs for the top two of Bhaal's favor, and Event 11 for the chosen - which is canonically Silvershield. So, we know events one through nine were at least ordered, even if circumvented - martial law is the only one that can't be averted.
Given that he ends up "winning" (becoming Grand Duke) I think the executions probably didn't happen (and instead Rilsa Rael staged her prison break) but it doesn't actually break canon.
Rise of Tiamat & Descent into Avernus
Sometime around or shortly before 1485, Ulder is named Grand Duke. 1485 is the year Wyll is banished for his pact with Mizora - which means he was only the Duke's son for maximum a few years.
In 1489, Ulder represents the city on the council to deal with the threat of Tiamat, where his traits are:
Ideals: Responsibility, glory ("I am trusted with protecting thousands of lives, and I will not betray that trust no matter what my personal desires.") Interaction Traits: Honest Pledged Resources: Flaming Fist warriors and expert advisers to train conscript troops
In Descent to Avernus, he's described as having been elected "backed by idealistic commoners and enemies of the other established dukes" and that his concerns are the "stability and prosperity" of the city. He's the "voice of reason and common sense" but not egalitarianism.
The central tenet of DIA is that Ulder Ravengard is an honorable man, and without him to keep the Flaming Fist in line, they exercise their power cruelly (guided along by Vanthampur as she tries to consolidate power)
In Elturel, Ulder has taken charge of the city's defense. You meet him as he has tried to recover a relic and been caught by a psychic attack from Baphomet, that is mostly grounds for him to give a lore drop.
Okay, that's a lot of information. Summary please?
Ulder Ravengard is a cop.
He's not a bad cop. He's not interested in power, wealth, or fame. He wants what's best for the city...and he believes that the Flaming Fist, with the right motivation and guidance are it.
But, like, he's still a cop. He's inflexible, and doesn't see much nuance in situations. He's Lawful Neutral, in a genuine sense, he believes in the righteousness of Order, and can't see the nuances or the downsides.
If he's a righteous man, why hasn't he put work into reforming the very corrupt Flaming Fist? Because Good Cops don't fix anything, and I don't think he actually has a problem with most of it. Sure, the punishment is extreme, but you were committing a crime - Mercy is a virtue for a judge to hold, but it isn't a right. He's more concerned with the corruption vis a vis bribes from patriars and the Guild than the police brutality angle.
He's a good man to have running your army. He's a good man to marshal your defenses as your city goes plummeting to hell. Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate? The only thing he has going for him is that everyone else is just as bad.
Of course he exiled Wyll - if you're not guilty, you have nothing to hide. There was nothing more damning than not being able to speak (which Mizora knew; she is, in fact, good at her job). Ulder's views of patriar corruption (and status as being from the lower city) also has him uniquely positioned to be very harsh - he can't be the person who lets his son's crimes slide, not and clamp down on the patriars doing the same thing.
But once he had the context, he accepted him immediately - the ends justify the means. Ulder Ravengard is a man who would make a deal with a devil to save his city...so long as he knows the price.
(now, on the 'leaving 17yo Wyll in charge...look, this gets complicated, but the only way it works is if he's put in charge of the Flaming Fist, not as 'heir to the Duke' mostly because Ravengard doesn't trust most of the Fist to not be corrupt. Even then, I think it's likely to be a bit more of Wyll's POV (I have to step up!) and less an official chain of command, but he could easily have been an official member).
There are definitely places with Wyll that you can see how he has and hasn't taken his father's ideology. He's got some naive views (Baldur's Gate, welcoming refugees??) that suit someone who was taught the theory but never actually practiced politics, but he definitely has a leaning towards some of Ulder's views about law and order and ends and means.
And as for Grand Duke Wyll Ravengard, well....
Tumblr media
...let's just say, with the right people pushing buttons, I could see him going down the 'declare martial law' route too.

hi! saw u liked my post on the fake fic game and these tags are my challenge for you!
inspector!katniss, cop!peeta, new york setting, bantering in front of everybody at the station lol, one of them in danger and the other shows up
sorry it took so long, I kinda suck at modern aus heh
Name: The Backup
Rating: Teen & Up Audiences
Relationships: Katniss Everdeen/Peeta Mellark
Tags: inspector!katniss, cop!peeta, new york setting, bantering in front of everybody at the station lol, one of them in danger and the other shows up, humor, romance, fluff, friends to lovers, modern au, ACAB except for these two
Summary: Usually, Inspector Everdeen is able to handle such situations just fine. But when shit hits the fan, she has no other option than to search through her contacts and find a cop she trust enough to back her up; easier said than done when you trust none of your coworkers.
Well, almost no one.
Excerpt:
Katniss's heart raced as she found herself in a dimly lit warehouse, surrounded by crates and the faint sound of footsteps echoing in the distance. Her instincts kicked in, and she fumbled for her phone, eyes quickly scanning her list of contacts, discarding them one by one.
She scrolled through her contacts, her finger hovering uncertainly over Mellark's name. Or the ridiculous name he wrote there. Lover boy <3. In the heat of the moment, she couldn't help but feel a strange sense of comfort in the thought of him coming to her aid. Taking a deep breath, she pressed the call button.
The phone rang for what felt like an eternity, amplifying her anxiety. Finally, Peeta's voice came through, his tone teasing and light-hearted. "Well, well, Inspector Everdeen. To what do I owe the pleasure of this unexpected call?"
Katniss's frustration mingled with relief. She rolled her eyes, forgetting for a moment about the danger that loomed around her. "Don't flatter yourself, Mellark. I'm in a bit of a tight spot here and thought you might want to witness real action for a chance."
Peeta chuckled on the other end of the line. "Is this your way to ask me out? I knew it was only a matter of time, Inspector."
Katniss fought the urge to smile, her annoyance momentarily overshadowed by the playful banter. "Sorry to disappoint you Romeo. I need backup, and you seem to be the only one available."
Peeta's voice turned serious, a hint of concern cutting through the flirtatious tone. "I'm on my way. Just hold tight, alright? Tell me where you're at."
Something warm stirred within her, but there was no time to dwell on it, she muttered her location quickly. Swallowing her pride she added in a softer tone this time: "Hurry up, Mellark. And don't get any ideas about being my knight in shining armor."
Peeta's chuckle carried over the phone. "Well, I am dashing and I'm technically wearing an armor, so can't really help it."
Katniss shook her head, a smile tugging at her lips despite the danger that surrounded her. "You're incorrigible, Mellark. Just get here fast."
As they hung up, a newfound sense of reassurance flooded over Katniss. She knew that no matter the danger she faced, Peeta would be there to back her up. And maybe, just maybe, their banter held a deeper meaning that was yet to be explored.

a question of morality, or a test of loyalty?
A/N: Hi guys, girls, and non-binary pearls! This was written as a birthday present for @ghastlybin , so happy birthday to a wonderful friend and fellow clown. ❤️ Also, this was heavily inspired by the works of @kingmaker-a (you can probably spot the references and thank you to King and @neon-city-dreams for fielding my questions since this fic was a bit out of my wieldhouse)
TW: ACAB and anti-capitalism themes, betrayal, alcohol, food and drink mentions, OOC SuA, a surprise guest at the end :)
Summary: One wrong turn can change your life forever. Some, like SuA, are resistant to change, while others are at the forefront of it all. Where will you lie after everything in your life changes?
♡ Masterlist ♡
Tumblr media
"Hey, Geek Squad, over here!"
SuA waves you over with what surely is a weapon in her hand.
"What did you do this time?"
Your lab coat freely flows behind you as you walk towards SuA with haste.
"I think you mean 'What did we do?'" A smirk lies on SuA's face, and the tamed wilderness that rests in her brown eyes should tell you that nothing but trouble is on the horizon. "Watch this!"
With a simple click, the cylindrical object in her hand comes to life. It emits a deep violet color before SuA begins swinging it around. You duck before she swings the object over your head.
"What are you trying to do, behead me?"
She bursts out into a fit of laughter before turning it off.
"No, it doesn't have the capability to do that, but you may have given me an idea for my next project."
"C’mon, be serious. What is this thing for?" You gesture to the object that SuA tosses in the air carelessly before catching it.
"It's a zoning device. The superior asked me to work on it since you haven't had any great ideas as of late."
Your eyes widen as you fold your arms.
"Genius takes time-"
"Genius takes time -" SuA imitates you with a high-pitched voice as you sigh and pinch the bridge of your nose.
"You're acting like a child-"
"You're acting like a child!" She imitates you again, but this time, she uses a deep voice.
"I hate you."
"I love you~"
"That's not what I said." You matter-of-factly say as she lightly pushes against you.
"Well, that's what I heard." She smirks, again, before grabbing onto your arm.
You do your best to hide the shyness on your face as you lead her back to the lab.
"Speaking of genius-"
"Speaking of genius-" SuA bursts out laughing before squeezing your arm. "Okay, I'm done, you can continue on."
"Remember that car design that wouldn't work due to the spring constant-"
"Oh, here we go with the math stuff-"
"It's Physics, Sua," You're quick to correct her, "but I managed to fix it, and I should have the plans for you by tomorrow so you can start building."
"Look at you go, Calculator Watch!"
"You're so mean to me." You joke before poking her sides.
She screams and you flinch before breaking away from her.
"Don't do that! I'm sensitive." She crosses her arms in front of her chest in defiance, but the soft smile on her face tells you that she knows you're joking around. "Are you going to get drinks with me tonight?"
"I've got to change first, but yeah, I'll come." You adjust your lab coat before grabbing your ID from its protector. "Same place as usual?"
"Yup," She nods as you place your ID in front of the scanner, "and I don't think you need to change. You make the lab coat look hot, if I'm being honest."
A bit of red dusts your cheeks as the light in front of the scanner turns from green to red.
"Thanks." You mumble before waving her on. "Let's get this done so we can get those drinks, huh?"
"Now you're speaking my language!"
~
Living in the city had numerous benefits, and one of which was the fact that you could walk from your workplace to home and then back again. You liked taking the scenic route home as you could admire the delicate, dainty work that the city gardeners had created in the small gardens that dusted the sidewalks.
You liked taking the 'good' way home, or at least, that was the name that your co-workers gave it. They didn't like to go through the regular parts of the city due to the high crime rates, so they stuck to their same-old ways. You weren't against the poor and out-of-luck, but safety was a real concern for you, so you take the routine way home every day.
Today, however, was not your lucky day as there happened to be unavoidable construction work on both your regular and alternate route home. That meant that you would have to take the back alleys home, and although you weren't fond of the idea, you didn't want to be late to meet SuA.
Arming yourself with one of your homemade projects, a knife-like object that would send the victim to sleep once it penetrated the skin, you carefully walk through the alleys as you keep your head up. Awareness was a key tool in surviving in the city, especially if you weren't rich or happened to be in the wrong area at the wrong time.
The walk home was nerve-wracking but mostly peaceful. A few stragglers gave you some strange looks, and you couldn't blame them. Your pristine clothes and pure white lab coat must've looked strange next to a worn-down building covered in graffiti. You paid them no mind, and to the stranger that went too close, you flashed your weapon which caused them to quickly back away.
Everything was peaceful, and you felt yourself relax as your apartment building came into sight. Since you were on a main walkway, there were armed guards everywhere, which caused you to slip your weapon back into your pockets. Your quickened steps turned into a relaxed stroll as you tried to find your keys in your pocket.
After giving yourself a quick pat-down, you find the keys in your left pants pocket. You fish them out as you approach the building.
You're stopped by a crowd of people who are talking among themselves. You try to navigate around them, but the crowd's density causes you to reconsider. You'll be heading into the street if you want to do that, and considering how fast most cars go, you choose to stay off the roads.
You shoot SuA a quick text saying that you'll be late, and you slip your phone back into your pocket as you try to weave through the crowd. You stop dead in your tracks when a piercing scream breaks through the hustle and bustle of the city.
With that, the crowd breaks as people go running in different directions. You're left confused until you look to your right.
A girl who couldn't be older than fifteen is shoved against a wall by a couple of guards. She wails again, but they pay her no mind. One guard looks at the other for a moment before pulling out a skinny blue metal rod. You gasp when it illuminates blue after the guard turns it on.
The girl screams and thrashes against the guards, but you're unable to help her. Interfering in the business of the guards in a serious offense, and you don't need that sort of thing on your record.
Besides, if you did rescue her, what would you say?
"Oh, you see that torture device in that guards hand? Funny story, actually, since I'm the one who designed it."
~
Conflicting opinions battle in your mind as you unlock the door to your apartment.
Should you have intervened, even if it meant your own demise? Would it mean anything if you did? Would those above forgive you for the transgressions against society?
You carelessly throw your lab coat on a nearby coat hanger as you nervously pull at a strand of hair from your head.
That image is scorned into your memory, and you know that you can’t go back to work and continue to do what you did every other day before. The thought of it makes you nauseous, but the question remains to be answered.
What are you going to do next?
You try to pick an outfit in peace, and you’re successful for a moment before another wave of guilt crashes over you.
That little girl could’ve grown up to be something great… god-knows-where she is now, or if she’s still alive.
Still alive, you hope as you get dressed, please be alive.
You have to hope she’s alive. Otherwise, the guilt would eat you alive.
~
“Hey, you made it!” SuA roughly pats your back before rubbing your arm. “You look nice, all dressed up like that.”
You nod and bite your lip before ordering a drink.
“You alright?” SuA tugs at your arm as you sit next to her. “I know you’re quiet and withdrawn at times… but this is strange for you.”
“I have a lot on my mind.” You confess as you thank the bartender for giving you a drink.
“Like what?”
“I wouldn’t want to trouble you.” You shake your head as the thoughts come to the front of your mind.
“I worry about you.” Her voice softens, along with her mannerisms. “You can tell me, you know.”
“If I do… you won’t judge me for what I say, right?”
“Not unless you say something stupid.” She shoves you with her shoulder before grabbing your hand. “I’m all ears.”
So you tell her everything.
Everything about what you say. Everything that you had thought in the past hour. Everything, everything, e v e r y t h i n g.
When you finish, SuA quickly hushes you before speaking in a low tone.
“You can’t- you can’t do anything about that girl-”
“That won’t help me sleep at night.” You mummer back. “What do you think?”
“I… You need to move on.”
“SuA, I… I can’t.”
“I know.”
“So?” You softly say.
“So.”
“You can’t… you can’t just say that!” You exasperatedly say. “You need to tell me something.”
“What do you want me to say?” SuA asks with a bit of anger in her voice.
“I need you to tell me anything, SuA, I need you to tell me it’s alright.”
“You’re an adult. You can comfort yourself.”
“I need you to be on my side because I love you!” You raise your voice a moment before lowering it again. “I can’t stand the thought that you believe in these… sick, twisted ideas that this company, this city, this world promotes!”
“You love me?” SuA softens further before embracing you. “I’m sorry that I never said anything before.”
“What do we do now? How do we move forward?”
“I think that’s a question that can be answered after a few more rounds of alcohol.” SuA suggests before pulling away from you.
“Oh… okay.”
“Hey.”
“Hey?” You tilt your head at her.
“I love you too, you nerd.”
~
It was a dangerous plan.
It was a bad plan.
But it was your only option at the moment.
You and SuA would go into work tomorrow like nothing was wrong. During the shift, however, the two of you would be destroying any of your work that could pose a threat. After that, you’d wipe SuA and yourself from the computer system so you’d be completely untraceable. Then, after you had called in a favor from an old friend, you had a couple of electric motorcycles that would get you out of the city before anyone knew anything was wrong.
It was, most definitely, a horrible plan. One error could end with the both of you dead.
It was your only chance to right a wrong, and your chance to escape this nightmare with SuA, so it had to be a good plan that went well.
At least, that’s what you told yourself as you got dressed this morning. After combing your hair into place, you grab your lab coat and head to work.
One last day, you tell yourself, and the rest of your life can be spent doing something good for once.
~
You offer SuA a gentle nod as you clock in with your idea. She smirks before poking your side with her elbow.
“Why so gloomy?”
“I’m trying not to be.” You mumble before walking in the lab. “I’ll see you later.”
“Yeah, I’ll see you soon.”
Brief greetings between the two of you were rare, but you had to hope that none of your co-workers thought that anything was wrong. Luckily, no one paid either of you any mind as you slipped into the lab.
You offer a glance backward as you see SuA walk towards the workshop with a phone in hand.
She’ll be fine, you know it. SuA’s a burning fire that’ll do whatever it takes to survive.
You just have to hope that your own resolve can last through an entire shift.
~
The day goes smoothly, to your surprise. In between working on a comfort project for one of the rich families, you’re able to delete or modify most of your work that would’ve led to the development of weapons or something worse.
As you stare at the weapons in front of you, you can’t help but wonder why you didn’t see this before. Was it the money that blinded you, or were you truly ignorant and resigned to what the people above you were doing?
It didn’t matter because you were going to be done with this life in an hour.
An hour. 60 minutes. 3600 seconds.
Yet the time crawls by at any agonizing pace.
One hour.
~
You look at the clock in front of you before pulling your flash drive from the device in front of you.
Three minutes.
Three minutes left, and all of you had to do was remove this flash drive from the premises. Maybe you could take it with you and try to amend the war crimes that you had committed by association, or-
The sound of your boss calling your name causes the hair on your arms to shoot up. You discreetly put the flash drive in your pants pocket before turning around.
“Yes?”
“Did you delete all of your work?”
“I-” Shit. “It was an accident.”
“Liar.”
They step aside to reveal SuA behind them.
Your mind races through a million possible explanations before landing on the one that hurts the most.
SuA betrayed you.
She mouths an ‘I’m sorry’, but you’re too blindsided by her actions to say anything.
She did this? After everything she said last night?
“You can hand over the files, and I’m willing to let this go due to your history of good behavior.” Your boss says as they extend a hand out.
You sigh before fishing the flash drive out of your pocket.
“Good, now just hand it to me-”
You hesitate before gripping onto the flash drive.
Could I really live with myself if I did something like this?
You drop the flash drive on the ground before stomping on it with your foot.
You hear SuA gasp as you dryly laugh.
“Whoops.”
“Seize them!”
~
Public execution.
You knew that was the fate that was destined for you before it came from the judge’s mouth. You had committed treason against one of the biggest companies in the city, which basically meant that you had committed treason against the whole city.
You didn’t really care, though. The one person you actually cared about turned you in, and for what gain?
You thought SuA was honorable, kind, funny, and respectful. There were many nights where you had dreamed of being something more with her. Now, she was repulsive to you. Everything that you had adored about SuA became something that you cursed at. You were so, so wrong about her.
You, however, were right about SuA in one respect: She would do whatever it took to survive.
The guard stationed at your door had told you that SuA wanted to come and see you, but you refused.
Why would you want to see someone who doomed you to death?
Well, you did that part yourself, but it still hurts.
You were numb, so death didn’t seem so bad.
Three days. 72 hours. 4320 minutes. 259,000 seconds.
The amount of time that you had left to rot in this cell before you died.
~
You had stopped eating a day ago after you found out SuA was paying the jail to provide you with meals that you liked.
You’d do anything to spite her at this point. You knew that she couldn’t handle the fact that your blood would be on her hands, so you’d relish in the thought of making her waking hours as torturous as possible.
You trusted her.
You had the two weeks before your sentencing to mourn the loss of that relationship.
In the place of cold, wet tears and lonely nights were fiery anger and bitter words, but you knew that you couldn’t say any of it to SuA.
She’d apologize, you’d apologize, and she’d get the closure she needed.
So you wouldn’t let her get close. If you had to be punished, then so did she.
~
The guard in front of you knocks to signal meal time.
“I’m not hungry. You should already know that.”
When they look at you, you realize that this guard isn’t the same one that you’ve had.
“Sorry,” You grumble before hugging your knees close to your chest, “you must be new.”
“Well, I’d be new if I was a guard in the first place.”
“Huh?”
You quickly stand as the guard tosses their hat to the side. Light purple waves of hair fall down her shoulders.
“Who are you?”
“We’re impressed with your efforts, Scientist Zero.” She smiles before fishing keys out of her pocket. “You’re coming with me if I didn’t make it obvious already.”
“What do you want with me? A private execution?” You bitterly spit as she offers you her hand.
“You can sit and rot in this jail if you want, but I think you have some amends to make, right?”
“How do you know so much about-”
“Do you want to come with me or not?” She offers you an ultimatum, and you sigh before cautiously taking her hand.
“I’m choosing to trust you in the hopes that you don’t stab me in the back.”
“I’d never dream of it.” She jokes, and the laughter squeezes the vulnerable part of your heart.
“I need a name before I fully put my life in your hands.”
Tumblr media
“Lee Gahyeon.” She answers before pulling you to the side.
Another person, dressed in similar prison wear, takes your place in the cell before Gahyeon closes the gate.
“Don’t tell me they’re going to-”
“We do what we have to.” Gahyeon darkly answers. “A lot of people have faith in you, including myself, Zero. Is it alright if I call you Zero?”
You pause as you think back to the names you’ve been called before.
Geek Squad, Calculator Watch, Nerd.
“I’ve been called worse, believe me.”

Murder mysteries can be wonderful but there’s always the issue of the scene at the very end where the cops show up to take away the killer. The implication is that justice is served in that moment, that things are now set right. But if you take the position that ACAB and that prisons and policing should be abolished, the cops arriving to save the day just means further injustice is about to occur. Now you could argue that if anyone deserves to suffer at the hands of the police it’s murderers, but hot take, that’s still not justice. At the same time, though, you can’t exactly end the story with the killer still free (with some notable exceptions), and you can’t really have your protagonist engage in extrajudicial murder (unless it’s a cop show, but that’s still bad). Murder mysteries set in the real world can never allow for the possibility of restorative justice, and must as a matter of course accept prisons uncritically. So you either have to accept the presence of police as a necessary evil in your murder mystery, or set it in a fantasy world where prisons aren’t a cruel injustice, or only ever write “Murder on the Restorative Justice Anarcho-Feminist Commune”
Idk these are the things I think about when considering writing a murder mystery

Babylon 5 s02e07: A Race Through Dark Places
s02 Table of Contents • previous episode
Station budget relies on the civilian traffic, but the military traffic has been higher than usual, so they’re running on a deficit, since the military doesn’t reimburse the station for funds lost by the mandatory re-routing of civilian business. And they want want to charge Sheridan and Ivanova 30 credits a week to stay in their current quarters, which are a whole 7 square feet bigger than the next size down which would remain free. All this sounds exactly some some bs the USA would pull and is completely believable.
My!!! guy!!!! Bester is back! And on a day when I’ve found a totally legal and normal way to screencap for some gifs again. hell to the yeah. Prediction: I’m gonna like this one. He’s got a new, scary sidekick.
Oh I love him, he’s so terrifying and perfect.
Telepath: “He’s dead.” Bester: “It doesn’t matter. I caught it, just before he died. Betrayed by his final thoughts.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s my special little guy. But does this mean Talia is involved with the underground telepaths?? She was really not down with whatsherface not going to PsiCorps.
Sheridan is just down to fight whenever anyone squares up even a little. What is 30 credits? I have nothing to compare it against. Is it like, a nice meal for two? A month’s wages for a dock worker? I feel like this is the first hard number for a price I’ve seen so far.
Going for the easy questions I see, Delenn! Just quickly, explain humanity. Awww she’s so cute. Dinner date with Sinclair! He was dtf (down to fight) 2 seconds ago and now he’s dtf (down to flee) and figure out if this is a date or not.
Sheridan: “One day they’re shooting at you, the next they’re taking you out to dinner. Hah! What a universe.”
He looks bemused and delighted. I’m delighted. This episode will have everything if only Susan and Talia will be allowed to be onscreen at the same time.
OMFG they’re in the same room at the same time!!!
Sheridan: “I’d like to talk to my people for a moment.” Bester and Talia: *leaves the room* Me: “Talia where the fuck are you goin...oh. Telepath. well frag that.”
Garibaldi: “Want, agree, that has nothing to do with it. The law is the law.”
And that’s ACAB baby. When the law is unjust, those that uphold the law are unjust.
Garibaldi: “That’s damn ironic, isn’t it? That the corps got started because we were afraid of telepaths? Now we’re victims of our own fears. And we took away every right they had and shoved them into a big, black box called Psi Corps. Now look at em. Black uniforms, jackboots, giving orders. Some days they scare the hell out of me.“ Sheridan: “Yeah If you ask me, we created our own monster. And maybe we deserve it.“
Good advice by Ivanova. Read the logs about the Jason Ironheart Incident.
Lots of good background info being dropped. Talia wouldn’t notice a surface scan, she keeps walls up to block out the background noise, but Bester wasn’t and heard someone calling him a murderer.
“Bester will try to stop up, so we don’t have any choice. We have to kill him.”
I agree, but also, oh man my special guy. :(
DELENN YOU BABE. Well no wonder Sheridan falls for her. She’s humaning it up like a bossbabe for this date.
It’s genuinely astonishing that Ivanova has nothing whatsoever to do with the underground (that she’ll admit to). I think odds are relatively good that she actually does. Perhaps Dr Franklin is? He’s been a little revolutionary.
Date’s going well. Humor is an excellent bonding point.
Bester reaching out to Talia civilly. We love to see it, only for the drama.
Tumblr media
Love to see the return of Jason Ironheart CGI Ascended!
Tumblr media
Also love the lingering, artful shots of Talia being angsty in profile.
The penny!! Is she or isn’t she a telekinetic?? I am once again asking for Talia Telekinesis Skills. AND YES THERE IT IS BABYYYYY. Now that’s some self defense.
Earthforce locked them out of their rooms! Those asshats. It’s so sweet how willing Susan is to go along with all Sheridan’s schemes.
Mary Had A Little Lamb has never been so ominous.
OK, so now that they’re sleeping in Sheridan’s office she’s quite a bit more disgruntled.
Ivanova: “Were you like this when you were married?” Sheridan: “Yeah!” Ivanova: “That woman was a saint.”
John you have a huge crush. Repeating all the jokes you heard from your dinner date and practically blushing over thinking about it is peak crush behavior.
DS9 nod? Those are raktajino mugs that Bester and Talia are using.
Tumblr media
Fishing for info, fishing for informants, and unfortunately not so distracted that he missed the assassins. Who should really learn to shield their thoughts if they’re gonna be assassinating level 15 telepaths. And throwing Talia in a closet. A literal closet. lol.
This is the one and only anger fit Garibaldi can throw that I support.
Oh well, not really a closet I guess. Man, she gets manhandled a lot.
I agree, wake up girlie. The Corps are not benign and you don’t even believe what you’re saying.
Dun dun dun! Franklin does have connections. Called it.
Oh, the gloves are a PsiCorps requirement! Continuing yikes. Excellent control mechanism. They’re a high control cult. What you wear, where you live, who you talk to, who you touch, how you live, where and how you work, who you marry. About as high control as you get.
oooof, and forced pregnancy. I wonder if the baby got a guide for a year and then it was on its own as soon as it could walk.
“You’re asking me to take everything I believe and turn it upside-down.”
yeah, that’s hard to do when you’re ready to deconstruct from cult life, let alone when you’re kidnapped by kindly telepaths who insistently tell you horror stories of PsiCorps as some kind of guided deconstruction.
Invoking Jason Ironheart is absolutely the way to get Talia to help. I’m rooting so hard for them! And for Bester to survive and continue to commit atrocities for my viewing pleasure. I’m a simple person.
DOCTOR STEPHEN FRANKLIN YOU DUPLICITOUS BADASS! This episode is everything. I’m vibrating. Generally I like to feel good about predicting things even partially correctly but I only said maybe Dr Franklin has connections, not that he’s running the whole operation, and I’m gonna own that being only very partial. This is baller.
He’s a conspiracy theories that are real guy like Sheridan is, but only for telepathy! Secret doctor network!! The unofficial clinic!!
Alas, Sheridan, but “I agree but the laws“ is not moral best practice.
Bester! My evil little fellow.
Talia grew a hell of a spine in the last ten minutes.
Collective telepathy!!!
“The corps is Mother. The corps is Father. I know where my loyalties lie.”
Tumblr media
I don’t see how this could play out any way but that these people are dead, but that would also be totally bonkers considering she just planned something with Dr Franklin and Sheridan.
LITERALLY all faked? d a m n
I am extremely into collectivist telepathy. It’s super tragic that they are discouraged from touching even each other. All of them must be just so touch starved.
Doctor Franklin has just shot up a mile in my estimation of him as a person. He got a lot of points for treating Poor Murdered Child, but I also don’t like thinking about that episode. (0/1 stars, will never watch again)
Ah, so Sheridan also has a way with pedantry. Is this a commentary on how rigid military regulations makes for twisting-the-hell-out-of-the-rules geniuses?
Insert incoherent babble here about gloves-off Talia smiling at be-robed Susan smiling at her! Oh this episode is everything I could have wanted. Definitely a 5/5 star one for me! And certainly my favorite of the season so far!

Ayesha Liveblogs She-Ra S1
“Is that a mouse?!” Why is it just an accepted fact of this universe that some people are furries and scalies
“This is what I raised you for,” is a messed up thing to say to anyone but particularly in the context of a military draft
I know “Horde” is an actual word but that it’s called the Horde and their leader “Hordak”... imagine if the Empire in SW was “the Darthettes”
Based on only these two scenes Catra seems like a difficult friend to have with the sulking and not waiting her turn at the helm
“Dear Mom, I feel like you don't respect me.” A teenage mood
Bow picking up and folding Glimmer’s clothes, what a sweetheart
“Will you fight for the honour of Grayskull?” Seems like an unfair question without defining Grayskull
“Not much for talking, huh?” “I prefer not to swap pleasantries with my captors.” Adora makes a very reasonable point, Bow
Speaking of captors, I assume that Adora did once have parents:
Tumblr media
“Where’s a blinding flash of light when you need one?” We call that foreshadowing
Glimmer’s core personality trait so far is stubbornness to a fault
“I never knew where I came from or who my family was. Shadow Weaver said it didn’t matter who I was before, that I was nothing before Hordak took me in. There’s always been a part of me that I just don’t know anything about.” Which came first Finn from Star Wars or Adora from She-Ra lmao
Adora discovering birthdays and horses and all she missed of the outside world is really very endearing
“She’s been messing with our heads since we were kids.” “How could you possibly be okay with that?” “Because it doesn’t matter what they do. The two of us look out for each other. And soon, we’ll be the ones calling the shots.” It’s actually really sad that Catra is so resigned to being manipulated and that she views Adora as her entire support system, someone put these girls in therapy
“But I was stupid. And a jerk, and I almost got us killed.” That was a quick turnaround time on the stubbornness, good on Gimmer
“It’s been an honour serving beside you, Horsey.” I delight in every minute of screentime that Bow has
I feel like a lot of these Horde soldier concerns can be partly addressed by making sure Adora has a different outfit when she meets the queen
I love the immediate friendship with the horse and how they just call them “Horsey”
“She attacked our troops with a sword and then fled with the help of a winged beast.” I mean... Adora defended herself with a sword, which is not the same thing as attacking. These guards are lying. She-Ra said, even in pastel space: ACAB
“I know her secret.” “And what’s that?” “Hm. Like I’d tell you.” Everything about Catra just screams I am gay and in 10th grade at all times. I’m sorry I compare everything to Naruto but she is Space Lesbian Furry Sasuke. I will not elaborate
Tumblr media
I’m guessing Mara is a previous host(?) of She-Ra
“I don’t have my glasses, you’ll have to speak up.” I relate to this sentiment, Madame Razz
Very genuine question: Is She-Ra’s pacing/dialogue slower than the average animated series because I keep having to switch it to 1.25 speed in order to move through the show hfkjhfkjhf what is up with it
Although I understand that this is a struggle between a corrupt military empire and a rebellion of united forces/nations a la Star Wars, whenever they bring up that this is a monarchical system, I can’t help but be like, “Dissolve the monarchy!!” I blame Magi the anime. Or the British empire. Probably both
“Catra has been nothing but a disappointment to me.” “If you have failed to condition her properly, you have no one but yourself to blame.” Hordak and Shadow Weaver are like a divorced couple who can’t agree on how to teach their kids responsibility
This is the second time I’m mentioning it, but how much of the outward hostility towards Adora would be solved if they got her a different outfit???? A lot of it, probably
I am assuming that Shadow Weaver is fixated on Adora mostly bc she is a lost princess and not bc she has any emotional attachment to her
“You want She-Ra to fix everything, but you won’t even try to save yourselves?” They are so close to the idea of democracy and yet so far
Lmao @ these three teens turning a diplomatic supply mission into encouraging a pacifist nation to throw away their ideology and smack people down with plants
How the heck was Adora hiding that GIANT sword in her Horde uniform and somehow no one took note. No one ever managed to look at her back as she walked in?????
Tumblr media
“Would I get to hit more people with flowers?” Perfuma said: Actually it turns out, I love violence
Bow and Glimmer giving Adora a firmer bed and sleeping in her room bc they understand she’s used to military barracks... I love the Best Friend Squad
It’s funny how often Queen Angella makes war decisions based on ‘Glimmer asked very nicely’
“Everyone here looks like a real pirate.” I’m gonna be real with you, Bow, it looks like you’ve entered a lesbian bar rather than a pirate’s tavern, but I guess there is a Venn diagram crossover of interests
“Tragically, they went down in flames.” “How did that happen?” “I set them on fire.” I think I like Captain Sea Hawk
The men on this show are fun. Bow is so easily excited and impressed and Captain Sea Hawk is no thoughts just vibes
Gkhgkgjhg Shadow Weaver not giving Catra the Force Captain orientation while simultaneously using her to hunt Adora is kind of like cutting off her nose to spite her face
There is something about the concept of Mermista and Sea Hawk dating that I find very endearing:
Tumblr media
Does some voice innately speak to Adora or does she point the sword and hope
“Try being the daughter of an immortal queen when your powers are ‘sparkles.’” 1) Salt in the wound to be named Glimmer kghkgjhgk imagine if Superman/Clark Kent was called Laser Eyes also 2) Way to casually drop that Queen Angella is immortal??? What???
Makes a lot of sense that Bow would have the advantage in a battle since he seems to have been an active part of the rebellion for some time vs these Horde cadets who are on their first mission
She-Ra’s height is a little perplexing bc Adora seems to essentially maintain her proportions so rather than being a tall person she just looks like a person x1.15. Adora + HST (Hardy Size Two)
Update from 3 minutes later: Mermista just described her as an ‘eight foot tall lady’ which doesn’t make any sense at all. She is one (1) head taller than Catra, and I don’t think Catra is 7 feet tall. She-Ra’s gotta be like. 6′5″ at best
Tumblr media
Confused by Bow’s gesture with Mermista, is he participating in the magic or just posing???
Tumblr media
“The Horde almost destroyed my home. I wanna help fight them.” This feels like a strong description for what happened. They knocked at your door and you kicked their sixteen-year-old asses. But I see your point, Mermista
The sixth episode intro is giving very much Jumpstart 3rd Grade
“I designed the castle as a labyrinth. I’m the only one who can navigate it.” What a horrible thing to do to your staff. Even cartoon rich people have no perspective LOL
[Glimmer Tiktok audio voice] 🎶 Adora wake up, I don’t like this, Adora wake up 🎶
I understand that Entrapta’s thing is tech but characters who like to experiment on beings with sentience give me the heebie jeebies like would she normally dissect a person like Adora??
Also I feel like it would’ve been more humanizing if she felt any emotion at all towards fighting the First Ones tech robots. But she seems to be indifferent to both people AND robots???
I appreciate that they’re starting to show the need for and strength of individuals like Bow and the kitchen staff in this world where princesses seem to be the be-all end-all of strength against the Horde
“You each have a skill that only you can do, even if it doesn’t come from some magical jewel.” Bow on theme as always. Love him to pieces:
Tumblr media
Also LMAO @ Bow convincing the staff to join in on the robot fight in less than 10 seconds
“I don’t have enough energy to teleport us all right now. Not without leaving someone’s legs behind.” Is the implication here that Glimmer has left someone’s legs behind before jkhgkjhg
Loving how much this ep relies on teamwork <3 Go Bow’s Kitchen Robot Mercenary Squad hahaha
Entrapta immediately putting back together the disc that nearly just killed them. Hoo boy. Always trust your heebie jeebies
“My Aunt Castaspella is head sorceress there.” JKGHKJGHKJGH I guess I understand why Angella named her daughter Glimmer. They do literal names only in this family LMAO
They’re reinforcing that She-Ra is eight feet tall, which again, HOW?
“How nice that Glimmer has finally started making some friends.” We all have an aunt like Aunt Casta jghkjghgj
“Adora, do you know what ‘aunt’ means?” “No, I was just hoping someone would eventually explain.” KJHGKJGHKJGH Adora, what do they teach you in evil military space school
“Some say she never really left. That’s she only biding her time, waiting to exact her revenge.” Wgkjhkgjhg the connect between Light Spinner and Shadow Weaver is as subtle as a ton of bricks
Awww Glimmer and Bow immediately understand that Shadow Weaver is Adora’s Terrible Mum
Wasn’t sure til now if Shadow Weaver knew that Adora was She-Ra
“You never loved me. You just played twisted mind games.” Everything about Shadow Weaver and Adora is like. Hallmark abuse
It’s cute how the beach has clouds as waves. I love world-building
“If you want to take down Adora, you have to go for the heart.” 1) Don’t like that 2) Why the lingering shot on Bow rather than Bow and Glimmer
“Unfortunately, you’re the only I can trust around here.” “Because we’re best friends.” Scorpia is kind of delightful lmao
“I never really fit in with the other princesses.” It’s tough being a half Scorpion in this economy
Princess Prom is SO cute I love their outfits and the ball concept
“But don’t you see? That’s how it starts. Then suddenly everyone has new friends and nobody needs me anymore.” Glimmer needs to talk to a therapist about her anxious attachment
Bow is VERY good at communicating his feelings and boundaries with Glimmer re: having other friends. We love an emotionally aware man
“She stole my food and asked me to spy on people with her. Is this what love feels like?” Being gay and in 10th grade: Jealousy Edition
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess Scorpia and Catra chose Bow first because he was the more accesible target, given Glimmer’s teleporting abilities
Catra continues to ruin Adora’s life and then question why she doesn’t want to hang around with her lol
“We’re the Princess Alliance. And the Horde took one of our own.” YEAHHH MERMISTA, I LOVE A TEAMWORK <3333333
Fjgkhkgjhg I would say that Mermista got the short end of this mission task for the sewer thing, but Perfuma and Adora have to wrangle Sea Hawk and Entrapta lol
GKJHKJGHKJGH a very honest take from Bow:
Bow: Why are you telling me all this?
Kyle: I don’t know... I guess because you’re the first person who’s listened to me.
Bow: I mean, I’m being held prisoner, so I don’t know that I have a choice... but sure!
“Go to the force captain barracks and pack your things. Now that Adora is back, there’s no need for you there.” I feel like the flaw in Shadow Weaver’s thinking is how she possibly believes Adora could fight for their cause again
Adora sacrificing herself to get the rest of the Princess Alliance out is giving Season 1 VLD Allura, Dreamworks got one mission move
“You shall stay willingly, because I am going to wipe your mind.” Ah, there it is
GO GLIMMER GIVING SHADOW WEAVER THE PUNCH SHE DESERVES:
Tumblr media
“This is not because I like you,” said Catra as she handed over the sword, even though it definitely was, proving that being gay and in tenth grade can in fact lead to the downfall of imperialism
[Princess Alliance as ATLA voice] ‘Did Entrapta just die?’ ‘You know, it was really unclear’
Gjkghkjgh the fact the flames were the same moody green light for the door shut/burst of flames as it was for Jet in the underground. If the people who wrote this ep did not watch ATLA, I would be SHOCKED
As a sidenote, I don’t think Entrapta’s dead lol. It wouldn’t have even crossed my mind to consider she was dead until Bow suggested it LOL, I really just thought it was the door closing
“If I had known, I never would’ve agreed to your foolish plan.” All this Horde team meeting suggests is that Hordak is not a particularly effective leader LOL
I think honestly they should’ve kept him obscured for longer to up his villainous aura. Like on a scale of cartoon villainy from like, Dr. Doofenschmirtz to Him in that one really fucked up episode of Powerpuff Girls, this guy seems like a solid Hawk Moth. He’s certainly not as scary as the comparable media of VLD’s Zarkon
“What do you do when you have a cold?” “Remain out of sight.” [Concerned glances] “What? Displays of physical weakness are strongly discouraged in the Horde.” Once an episode Adora reminds everyone of what a horrific childhood she had
Not sure what Glimmer plans to achieve by hiding her Dark Magic Flu, surely deceiving her mother will only result in more restrictions later on
In answer to an earlier question, Adora’s strategy for figuring out her She-Ra powers really is just ‘point the sword and hope’
“Hey, you can’t just touch another woman’s tail without asking,” said Scorpia, like they weren’t holding Entrapta captive without asking
In fairness to Glimmer and Adora, they really just had to take the others word for it. They didn’t see what happened to Entrapta!
“Am I the only one who cares about sword safety around here?” Poor, rational Bow has been cursed to be besties with two people whose only two braincells constantly scream, ‘Magic’ and ‘Fight’
Again, I get that Entrapta is representing a specific type of person but it doesn’t sit right with me how ambivalent she is about the Horde. What is ur moral code Entrapta? What matters to u, aside from making technological discoveries? Who matters?
“I was hard on you. I won’t deny it, and I won’t apologize. I just wanted to prepare you for the world. I wanted you to be strong.” “Well, congratulations, I’m plenty strong now.” Yaddah yaddah generational trauma
“I shouldn’t have been so weird about you hanging out with someone else. I’m sorry Bow.” Glimmer’s hand on Bow’s chin as she reassures him: <3 Best Friend Squad
Tumblr media
“I don’t know how you feel? I got your father killed!” WHAT IN THE ABBY GRIFFIN
Ah, it was more of a battle decision than a betrayal lol
“Don’t make the same mistake I did. I should have kept fighting, and you should too.” Wow, this episode wasn’t kidding about yaddah yaddah generational trauma
“You must let go.” Does this mean that She-Ra also has to go on a spiritual journey towards asceticism and not prioritizing her loved ones with a mystical racially-coded guru a la Aang
Update from 18 min later: Yeah.
I like that Catra and Adora are finally getting to hang out again, even if it is while they are being attacked by giant spiders during the Alien Mega-Computer Hang-out Cyber-Security Lockdown
“I knew you’d be weird about me letting you escape. I told you it’s not because I like you,” Adora said the furry doth protest too much
These Fright Zone simulations are very sweet <3 Childhood!!
I love the subtle contact like Adora smiling when Catra’s tail brushes her hands
“Adora, you must do a better job of keeping her under control.” Again. This favourite and scapegoat.... sickeningly realistic abuse tactic hoo boy
“I didn’t want you to come back.” We have circled back to Space Lesbian Furry Sasuke. Sever your bonds so u can get stronger Catra (derogatory/affectionate):
Tumblr media
“I wonder what I could’ve been if I’d gotten rid of you sooner.” You would’ve unlocked your mangekyo sharingan, Catra
“You ever meet someone and just instantly click?” Awww Scorpia’s adoration of Catra is quite sweet
NJFKKJFHFKJ what I imagine to Catra’s inner monologue
Scorpia: She is the best friend ever.
Catra, biting her fist to keep from crying: Adora used to call me that.
“I watched you grow up from afar.” That’s a weird thing to say
KHGKJHGKJGHK lmao @ Adora pointing it out as well. “Creepy? Yes, I have, I been called this before.” I’ve only known Light Hope for like 10 seconds but already I enjoy her
“Our horse!” “I... am my own horse.” WHAT THE HELL SWIFT WIND CAN TALK?
“As part of Adora’s herd, I need your help.” That’s so cute and weird that Swift Wind measures friendship by herd. I am so thrown by this horse thing, I had no clue this was coming
“I will not consign you to the same regrets.” Angella said the generational trauma ends with me!!!
“Etheria’s not just a planet. Whatever the First Ones did to it, it went deep.” Oh good, I have been perplexed about what the hell Etheria was in the first place. A solar system? A galaxy? A country? So they are all living on the same planet, yeah?
I didn’t know the ‘You’re asking me about my theories’ audio came from She-Ra
“The First Ones were explorers who journeyed from beyond the stars to settle Etheria.” So were they like the actual first ones or is this a North America type of situation
“You are the first She-ra in a thousand years.” Ah, exposition
“Which means, [the runestones are] our best access point to hack the planet.” ENTRAPTA. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU
Is this little guy Hordak’s son or like. The Wicked Witch’s flying monkeys
Tumblr media
Oh. He’s like that iDog Robot that plays music from ur mp3 player
“You are distracted by your attachments. There was one before you who could not let go.” Oh no, Adora’ll never reach the Avatar state now
Wait Madame Razz knows Mara the She-Ra from ONE THOUSAND YEARS AGO? How old is she????
“Mara stranded us in the empty dimension of Despandos.” Stranded whomst?? Etheria?? Did she plop u down like a pin on Google Maps??
I assume it will become apparent to us that Mara had a reason for what she did
“You’re really going to let this... this Princess tinker with my runestone?” “Her tinkering has boosted the firepower of every weapon she’s touched. So yes, she gets to tinker with whatever she wants.” This what happens with u mix feminism with imperialism LMAO
On that note, is power passed on matrilineally in this universe? Since it’s all princesses using the runestones, I guess gender must be a relevant factor in magic usage, huh? Unless weirdly for two generations everyone just happened to have exclusively daughters?
“Freedom, equality and hay for all.” Fascinated by the horse politics
“What good is all of your power if you don’t use it to help the people you love?” This is why I don’t see the point of these spiritual or emotional journeys to let go of the people around u. Ultimately, isn’t their reason for continuing to pursue balance, or the mission, or whatever the hell, the love of their people? I can’t believe I’m taking narrative reflections from a horse
“I didn’t do this fulfill some destiny. I became She-Ra to help others. My attachments, my friends, they’re part of who I am.” THAT’S WHAT I’M SAYING, ADORA
“It’s in the name. Net-ossa. I toss nets!” “Yes darling, you have beautiful nets.” Are Spinerella and Netossa girlfriends? <3 <3 <3 Love that for them
“All I did was push [Catra] further to the side of evil.” I don’t think you can take responsibility for that Adora, Catra chose this all on her own
Kinda worried they might kill or incapacitate Angella. Glimmer only has one living parent!
Catra is being so mean and for what? Cause Adora’s more athletic and she’s the Avatar-Jinchuriki-Jedi-Chosen Magical Girl? Please
Wouldn’t covering Etheria in darkness make it unsuable for the Horde? What do you gain from destroying the planet? Isn’t that where you want to take over? Very, ‘I’m one of the idiots who live there’
Oh my god. Has Glimmer been glitching because she’s connected to the Black Garnet now. Oh my god. IS GLIMMER GONNA BLOW UP THE HORDE
Tumblr media
Adora apologizing for not being able to save the world on her own and Bow immediately comforting her, paying no heed to the weapons aimed at them... I LOVE THEIR FRIENDSHIP A LOT 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Tumblr media
Also really enjoy how apparent they’ve made it that Spinerella and Netossa are 1) very nice and 2) very talented and battle-equipped
MERMISTA AND SEAHAWK AND PERFUMA WOOOOOOOOOOO
Even the little ice princess whose name I cannot recall!!! Whole gang’s here
Entrapta could be here too if she gave her friends the benefit of the damn doubt and didn’t terrorize the world for the sake of science!!
Absolutely LOVE that Sea Hawk and Bow are part of the princess magic rainbow blast:
Tumblr media
“You will have other chances to prove your worth to me as my second in command.” Hate this for Catra. Like the Non-Space Lesbian Furry Sasuke, I just want her to get some therapy for her childhood trauma and then understand that experiencing love is not a weakness
What a colourful and happy ending to a violent battle. This show is really trying to balance two wildly different aesthetics and tones, huh? It’s grown on me, though! I like it

Share any spiral symbolism you like?
FUCKONG COLOR THEORY.
I'm. Like.
I mean this with every little bit of my wee ribcage.
Analysing symbolism of colors - and specifically the impact of yellow - is what got me into analysis in the first place.
Spiral uses yellow and orange really really interestingly. Because the entire movie is bathed in this orange. It's warm and it's sticky and it's done that way intentionally. There is a heatwave going on and it's gross. It's grossness in a way Saw hadn't used before; all of the movies being set, presumably, around October time (I'm not a Saw connoisseur - just a spiral one, if this is wrong please correct me). Whereas Spiral is set during a heatwave so we can assume it's at least summer time.
And this is important when talking about color because the movie is orange but all of the traps are overwhelmingly blue. They're all blue. And this holds extreme significance because you know, it's the ACAB movie. It's the one where only cops die. It's fitting that cops die in blue lighting.
This is true for every trap except one, from my memory.
The glass trap. Which is all yellow. And this is because it's a trap that centers less around Pete and more about Zeke.
The trap is yellow because it's not killing cops. It's a test of how well Zeke will be as a partner in future tests.
As we see, he fails the test, yet he lives. The trap is rigged for Zeke to win.
No matter what, unless Zeke is a total dumbass, he is living through that glass trap.
Right so for this next part I need to share with you some symbolism for the color yellow. Because this is the color that, as said before, is filling the reveal scene.
Yellow symbolises, besides friendship, "optimism, joy, enlightenment, but also for duplicity, cowardice, betrayal." (Link)
This is exactly what the reveal scene is from both perspectives.
From Zeke's point of view, the reveal is a complete betrayal of trust from someone who he thought was his only friend left. It's duplicity (meaning deceitfulness (I had to look it up)) due to that betrayal. All of the lying and hiding and secret keeping.
But from William's, it's hope. It's the optimism that maybe they can be partners. That joy when Zeke agrees to it. It's the "enlightenment" that jigsaw parades around when people became his apprentices and joined his cause.
Yellow colors this scene because this scene is yellow.
That was long. I'm sorry.
I have been thinking about this for far too long.

If we're being honest here, HP's worldbuilding is lazy, generic, not that interesting and mean-spirited all around.
And you know what? You're correct on that description, specially on the "mean-spirited" bit, because that's exactly what Ursula Le Guin has said before.
Like, the Houses system is just some fancy method of segregation and the students are forced into roles that clash with their true personalities and are stuck in stereotypes (specially in the case of Slytherin, as it was often the starting point of many of the series' villains).
And speaking of stereotypes, have you guys forgotten that the Goblins are anti-semistic? With their role as the overseers of the financial affairs of the Wizarding World? With their greediness and comically large noses? With an upcoming game where the player is tasked with stopping their rebellion at all costs?
And what about the House Elves, who are practically slaves? Who refused to leave their lives of servitude because they genuinely find pleasure in being slaves? And when Hermione wanted to fight against the mistreatment of non-human beings, she was quickly slammed down and called "crazy" for it?
And speaking of Hermione, she'd be a much better protagonist than Harry Potter himself. A story of a girl born into a magicless family making history at a magic academy is leagues more interesting than the same ol' boring story about some speshul boy with a pre-programmed destiny to fulfill.
And about Harry, his epilogue is so boring, because he just basically becomes a Wizard Cop. First of all: #ACAB, and second of all: There should be more magical jobs in the Wizarding World. VARIETY, people! Society doesn't solely consist of police forces! Defund that shit!
And still on the subject of Harry, his ship with Draco (Drarry) was also stupid. Like, why in the world would you ship a bully with the bullied?! Not to mention how Draco is just some rude, annoying and whiny brat who always threatens others with the wealth and power of his family when things doesn't go like he wanted instead of taking matters into his own hands and getting a fucking grip. Like, grow up, people; there are much better rivals-to-lovers couples out there, like Lumity (The Owl House) and Dianakko (Little Witch Academia).
And speaking of the fandom, I will never ever ever forgive the fact that the fans have actively contribuited to the Cringe Culture scandal with My Immortal back in the days. With so many other great fanfics out there with loads of potential, and you all went and gave attention to the most subpar and horridly-written one, just so you could bully alt fashion kids for trying to explore their styles?! No wonder why I still see young writers/artists feeling anxious and discouraged about their projects...
And don't get me started on the international magic academies, and how they perpetualize stereotypes (i.e.: african academy Uagadou specializes in animal shapeshifting) and monolith myths (i.e.: japanese academy Mahoutokoro houses all of Asia, and brazilian academy Castelobruxo houses all of Latin America).
And it's just not transphobia or racism, no; what about the Lycantrophy process being used as a metaphor for the HIV/AIDS scandal, and how it prejudiced and killed thousands of people within the queer community? And how Remus Lupin was treated like an outcast because of his ability to transform (also, I feel like an idiot, because I always thought Remus was french due to his surname being "Lupin", and I thought it was a reference to Maurice LeBlanc's Àrsene Lupin, but it turns out the Lupin was based on the scientific name for the wolves: Canis lupus)?
I mean, really! I could list all of that TERFy old hag's transgressions all day! That's not even half of it all!
And you might be asking yourself right now: "But Bunny! If you are so upset at how mean-spirited the Wizarding World is, then why don't you just make WBMRs for some of the characters?"
The answer is simple, my friend: "Because JKR knows".
She knows of the fanfics we write and the OCs that we make. She knows that we're displeased with her behavior, and she keeps doing it anyway. Even if we alert others of her incompetence and maliciousness, we're unknowingly giving traction to her and her work.
Case in Point: Her latest book, The Ink Black Heart, features an artist/animator being doxxed and murdered for being transphobic and disrespectful, and the villain of the story is a disabled Tumblr blogger, and the story even features fake tweets.
Oh, and did I mention that she wrote it under the pen name of Robert Galbraith, naming herself after the father of gay conversion therapies? Because Ms. Joanne doesn't do subtlety.
At least the comforting news is that a plenty of people nowadays are no longer dealing with her bullshit. The latest Fantastic Beasts movie was a flop, losing to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and The Bad Guys; and Quidditch players have changed the name of their sport (it now goes by Quadball, btw) to divorce themselves of JKR's series.
A lot of people are at least showing to have some sense, and I'm satsified with that.
And to answer your question about the WBMRs: I will only work on them after the TERFy old hag herself is dead and gone. And when she dies, the celebration will certainly be bigger than when Good Ol' Lizzie kicked the bucket!
Peace out, and go find for other better series to consume/get engaged on!

"Army of Ghosts" thoughts
i really need to stop doubting russell. he put his whole pussy into some of these episodes
so this is one of those stories i've never rewatched, ever. the ending to "doomsday" devastated me so severely in high school (11-ish years ago) that i shied away from ever returning to this story. so far, it bangs
it begins w narration from rose about nothing ever having happened to her in her entire life, you can actually hear billie smile when she says "and then i met a man called the doctor" and like. i really can't stress enough. rose is the insane one in their relationship. rose carries the brunt of the derangement. house/wilson, hannibal/will, i am a huge sucker for pairings where the "normal" half is the sickest person alive and that is the most interesting interpretation of rose, to me. she is so bored of normal life that she would literally rather die than return to it, and she LOVES it, she craves it, the danger is the appeal not the doctor. she obviously has feelings for him (mutual) but it doesn't matter if he's ancient or ugly or whatever, she needs this life. rose is insane. bless
i do love her kindness tho. her being very delicate and gentle w jackie over the ghosts thing, reminding her that her dad is dead, saying she wishes she could smell the same cigarette smoke but she doesn't
and the doctor's reaction to the ghosts. "don't you think it's beautiful?" "i think it's horrific" ouch. he's right but ouch. i do think jackie has a point, though not the one she thinks she's making. the fact that people have the capacity to love so deeply, so intently, that they see blurry figurines appear out of thin air and assign qualities and personalities and scents to them, they see a footprint and vividly reminisce about the boot, i do think that's beautiful. the human capacity for love even in the strangest circumstances is, to me (a historian by schooling, vet med by profession) one of the most endearing, admirable traits of humanity
rose blowing off jackie's concern for her new lifestyle by being like "i worked in a SHOP" [ie my previous life had no meaning or value] and jackie defensively saying "i've worked in shops" yes girl. retail workers have value and are in fact braver than any us marine (source: worked in macy's on black friday). rose has this nice dichotomy that feels deeply real, where she is kind of ashamed of her life (living at home, working retail) but also protective of it (defends her mom, always makes a point to talk to "the help")
we get our first allons-y this episode
we also get the resolution to 1000 mentions of torchwood this season. my boyfriend actually didn't know torchwood was a dw spinoff before he started this watch w me, which is kind of funny. torchwood isn't really worth all the buildup, tbh. it's not worth the hype. huge shoutout to burn gorman tho, wildly underrated as an actor. "we must defend our border against the alien" and wanting to harness the power of the hole between worlds in order to "never depend on the middle east again" wow really not subtle here. even ignoring the plans to reinstate the british empire. davies is virulently anti-establishment in this show (and i assume irl) and it's deeply refreshing; i think doctor who can be a little too liberal-centrist for my tastes at times (capaldi zygon two-parter my beloathed grrrrrrrrrrr) so i really respect how often he went whole-hog acab fuck the government. it's one of the biggest reasons i'm excited to have him BACK
oh also hi mickey again
anyway part 2! can't wait to die!!

What are your other wee woo show wecommendations?
buckle up this is going to be long
Chicago fire/med/PD -was my go to for a long time I stopped watching when fire was on season 5 I think but I've seen bits and pieces of the newer seasons and I would honestly still recommend it
911/911 lone star- 911 is better than lone star in my opinion but I do love both the queer and poc representation in both is amazing and I live for angst so if you do to these shows are for you
NCIS/NCIS LA/NCIS NO/NCIS Hawaii- Hawaii the newest edition to the franchise is my favorite simply for the queer rep but if you have time and want to go back and watch them, all 20 seasons of the original are binge worthy. LA is give or take in it's first few seasons but once it gets going its good, and NO was good except it's last season so all around the NCIS franchise is a must watch in my opinion
FBI/FBI international/FBI most wanted- fairly new FBI is only on it's fifth season international it's second I think and most wanted either 3-4th but I could see all three of these shows lasting for a long time
SWAT- I just really like how the characters were developed and how the crimes are solved but you also see their personal lives.
criminal minds- I mean this one is obvious criminal minds is one of the best wee woo shows that ever aired.
Hawaii Five-0(2010)- also one of my all time favorites it's fun trying to figure out if they are cops or not
Murdoch mysteries- if you like old timey stuff in a modern setting this is the show for you it's based in 1890's Toronto and follows detective and inventor William Murdoch as he tries to solve mysteries
Frankie Drake mysteries- again this one is if you like the old timey stuff but in a modern spin this time set in 1920's Toronto Frankie Drake is a private detective I also enjoy this one because of the topics the show explores like crooked cops, misogyny, and racism.
Will Trent - now I can't give a full extensive review because this is a new show and only two episodes have aired but I like what I see so far. if you have ever seen or heard of the show monk that was around in the early 2000's this show is like the 2020's version of that
Blue Bloods- who doesn't love family drama this show is full of it especially when you put the additional pressure of the father being the police commissioner the oldest son being a detective the youngest son being a beat cop and the only daughter being a prosecutor. (disclaimer out of all the wee woo shows on this list this one is probably the one that tries the hardest with the copaganda, although most if not all these shows are copaganda blue bloods covers topics like unarmed people getting shot, cops being terrorized by the public, cops looking like the bad guys, and most if not all the time they will side with the cop or find the cop did nothing wrong. So if you are a ACAB person like me the way I go into this show each week is reminding myself that it is copaganda and that they are aiming to make cops look good that is their goal and it's most likely their target audience is people who already don't see cops as bastards that it doesn't change the fact that ACAB)
Alert- again just like Will Trent this show just aired so I can't give a solid recommendation but I do like what I have seen from the two day premiere the show basically follows a task force set out to find missing people but with added drama suspense and what appears to be secrets.
Magnum PI(2018)- now my dad will tell you to watch the original but in my honest opinion the reboot is better and although CBS cancelled it NBC picked it up for two seasons. I honestly just love the shows where the "normies" are better at being detectives than actual detectives
CSI- it doesn't matter which one you can pick up one of the older ones and watch every season or you can watch the reboot I will never get tired of CSI

I’m gonna be honest I’m seeing the top gun posts and I want to reblog them but I am just. Too goddamn tired for this exceptional bullshit rn. I cannot fucking believe y’all are “fandomizing” racist military propaganda. they’re not allies. you people realize that right? i don’t care what gay subtext they put in their movies. they don’t care about you and they are actively working to erase your freedom to be who you are, and ur encouraging it bc you care more about ur fake worlds than the real one. one day ur gonna pull ur head out of the computer once and for all and go ‘this is horrible! when did it get this bad! how can we fix it?’ but it will be too fucking late for you because you willfully pushed reality away to waste time actively encouraging the destruction of people’s lives. i don’t want t see any of y’all campaigning for overseas countries or even against the police while you’re defending this sort of movie. because clearly your allyship is only words and nothing more. you don’t care about anything but your white fantasies and daydreams where you never have to worry about anyone other than yourself. if I see one of you morons talking about “acab” or how much damage america has done in Iran and Palestine, I’m going to make it my life goal to make you regret it, bc your words are empty. 90% of you think being queer or what have you makes you automatically immune to being bigots and that you don’t have to do shit in terms of reparations or activism, but it’s the exact opposite. you people stick your head in the sand, close your ears and scream, and hold your breath until you pass out instead of confront the fact that some media is made only for the purpose of propaganda and harm of marginalized peoples, no matter how many queer couples are in it. like top gun, like first kill, like our flag means death, like the umbrella academy, and so on. you people are the reason why our oppressors are bolder than ever. you will walk willingly into their open maw and shut down all those trying to stop you, and you’ll make sure you take as many down with you as possible. I can’t wish enough suffering upon you for the betrayal you lay on those trying to stop the destruction, because unlike you, instead of shrugging our shoulders and going ‘eh, the world is on fire anyways, I’m looking out for number one’, there are those who care about the world and the people in it, the world that makes it possible for you to continue living ignorant and selfish, who want to continue living in this world and helping others live together to because even if we can’t reverse the damage of the fire, as long as we’re still standing we can put it out and help the wounds heal. there are those of us that care about real people, not your military bigots who you only pretend to hate when another gruesome massacre manages to come to the surface of the public consciousness. I’m tired of you people betraying every supposed ideal you say you fight for the moment you have the opportunity to smother yourself in more mindless and harmful indulgence. It would be one thing if you even admitted the media you consumed was harmful, but you won’t even do that. You can’t even do that. Because that would mean acknowledging the real world and the real people who are affected by your ignorance and that’s just “not fun”. I wish all of you the violent fear and pain you afford others with your willful ignorance and vitriol.

SPN S1E10 liveblog for Some Goddamn Reason
oh look it's a haunted asylum episode. groundbreaking.
idk how to break it to you but no ghosts are required for a police officer to shoot his wife. it is in fact a very common and non-haunted occurrence.
while in most ways I do not want to compare my father to John, I will say I deeply relate to the bit where they're like "how do you know he texted us he's terrible with technology" b/c my father learned to text maybe 2-3 years ago. he still uses a flip phone. he texts on the flip phone with perfect grammar, capitalization, sentences, etc.
once again ACAB but I looove the setup of the boys pretending they don't know each other, Dean asking the cop probing questions, and Sam pretending to defend the cop to gain his trust. v good, we love cons and scams. that being said I am once again saying that a cop shooting his wife and then himself really shouldn't ping any supernatural radars lol
okay so the Spanish version seems to be doing a thing where a narrator reads out English text on the screen (the little location tag, signs, etc.) which totally makes sense but it does mean I keep getting jumpscared by a random dude translating signs and stuff
ty Spanish SPN now I know how to say "weird vibes" in Spanish. augh this scene where Sam is doing therapy to try and uncover information is giving me SO MUCH secondhand embarrassment
YES the scared girlfriend character (Kat) knows how to use a shotgun, love this for her. btw when I started this post I was gonna rant about how I hate haunted asylum stuff but I had a vague memory from before that the patients' ghosts were relatively calm and it was the head doctor's ghost that was doing the murders so I decided not to rant. I think that memory is correct! which is nice, if you're gonna do a haunted asylum I think that's the way to go
this series really loves to electrocute these guys huh. YES Kat girl break up with your shitty boyfriend
ykw I never get it when characters are like "yeah if I dare you to kill me it'll snap you out of mind control because we are family/friends/partners/whatever and I know you don't want to" like. I would NOT trust someone with that. sure they probably don't want to kill me but what if the mind control is so good that it doesn't matter??? huh??? don't risk it. oh good Dean and I agree on this actually lol the gun wasn't loaded.
oh hey I think this might be the first actual salt and burn to get rid of a ghost? I know they talked about it a bunch, but I think this is the first time we've seen it onscreen. anyway yeah SPN said disability rights. you too can riot and kill your shitty doctor who's been experimenting on you.

Jet Set Radio is the ultimate ANTIFA propaganda
*Played and Written in July 2023
Jet Set Radio has punk hip hop energy seeping out of every pore of its being. It goes against the grain in every way. The art style sets the game apart, not just by having distinct and bold character designs, but also through its rough cell shading effects. The music not only slaps, but slaps from a different angle than any of its contemporary's music. This is mainly due to none of it's contemporaries having Hideki Naganuma blessing the OST with the Stankest Funk imaginable. It's a story about overcoming evil and corruption, not through violence like most games, but through embracing art and humanity. Jet Set is counter culture and you can feel it in every aspect of the game. The gameplay even remains distinct from other skating games by being kinda bad. And while I am being snarky here, I do actually think there is some merit to this sardonic comparison.
Jet Set Radio doesn't feel good to play. It's nice to listen to. It's nice to look at. But the controls are too tanky and the mechanics are too unreliable. The camera gets caught on every corner you turn on. It's never clear when you will be able to spray paint due to poorly communicated context sensitivity. Animation cancels and decent acceleration are nowhere to be found in a game about moving around a city expertly. Timers exist....for NO reason. It all comes together to make a rather frustrating experience. But eventually I got used to it, and it became fun when I knew where I was going and wasn't being chased by the cops. Stringing together jumps to tag up a sign 3 stories high is fun no matter how wonky your controls are. It's too bad that you are pretty much always being chased in this game. Every time you start to get the hang of how this clunky game works you get swarmed by pigs and play time is officially over. There is no way to fight these blue bastards off. You just need to runaway and then come back. Only running away is always a crucible due to how slow you start skating. And most of the time you need to execute 5 -10 motion inputs while standing still to post graffiti and all you can do is pray you don't get dog piled in the middle of the animation. It's an issue that only gets more bothersome as the game progresses. You are being pursued by cops with whips, jet packs, helicopters and machine guns and it starts to feel like every step you take is being monitored and every action you make is rejected. They completely ruin this game...but also elevate it.
I hate cops more than ever after playing Jet Set Radio. Paying any amount of attention to the news and being a minority pretty much placed me in the ACAB camp by default. But I think I'm ascending to another level now. I could feel the radicalization occur within me during my playthrough. Seriously, why are there so many of them? Can't you allocate your resources somewhere else? Go actually help someone instead of trying to murder me for painting on the side of a building likely created through unethical means. These are some of the most effective fun vacuums I've ever come across, and they perfectly reflect how lame authority can be in real life. On an aesthetic level, everything in Jet Set is peak. And the cops actively keep you from enjoying that. Did I have fun playing this game? Not really. Did it communicate its message successfully. Damn right it did.
I don't think the game is bad on purpose or anything. But the feeling of being annoyed by the authorities while you are just trying to express yourself is captured so well and so authentically, that the game isn't wholly allowed to be fun most of the time. So in a way, Jet Set Radio is sort of perfect despite not actually being a good video game. I haven't played Jet Set Radio Future, because no one has, but it apparently fixes all these issues. And I'm pretty sure I would enjoy the sequel a bit more. But after playing the Original, I feel like I'm 10% more likely to spit on an officer's shoes and I get the feeling Future wouldn't have accomplished the same thing. Video Games are art. And I think games can be being exceptional art by doing things outside of being an exceptional game. Jet Set Radio is now my go to example of this.

Moment of Awesome - Kyle Gibney/Wildchild:Following a blow-up on the journals and a Danger Room session with the safeties off, Kyle is finally in a frame of mind to talk things out with Garrison Kane.
"You gotta work a lot harder to make me pissed at you, man." Kyle said. "I think Madin's a little jackass who doesn't know shit from shit, but I already know I'm an asshole who crossed a line."
"Good. So you eat shit and tell Madin they're the specialist bunny in town and everyone rejoices." Kane said. "And then after that, we figured out how to make Italian Beef and thank the gods that a hot redhead loves you unconditionally."
"Fuck that, I say I crossed a line. I'm not blowing happy thoughts up that kid's ass." Kyle grumbled. "Look, I can fuck up and say I fucked up, but they're not getting compliments from me. They're a naive little shit, me letting myself loose and saying dumb shit doesn't change that, and them being a little shit doesn't change that I was a dick." He turned and leaned against the cabinets, and rested his arms on his knees. "Olivier made me admit sometimes I like cutting loose. Sometimes it's easier to just be somebody's attack dog."
"Sure. There's nothing to think about. Put your head down, follow orders and fuck up who you're told to fuck up. But that's not who we are, which is why it is important to make this right. Who do you want Madin taking notes from? You or Quire?" Kane said with a nod. "It's easy to be a self-entitled asshole, but the only thing you can do is make other self-entitled assholes."
Kyle did not look up. "Kane, for like months at a time, more than once, that was me and I remember most of it. I'm so fucking just tired of, fuck, all the shit Quire and Madin preach, being our mutant selves? My mutant self doesn't get that because spoiled rich vegan kids freak out when you walk in holding half a skinned rabbit. Fuck up who'm told to fuck up, I mean shit, you know what Weapon X did to make me. I was designed to fuck up whoever someone told me to fuck up and the only reason I'm a functional person is because I spend a lot of time making sure everyone only sees dumbass himbo Kyle and not two inch finger claws can bite a guy's hand off Kyle." He shook his head, hair everywhere, still damp from a post Danger Room shower and sticking to his cheeks. "I know. Suck it up, don't scare the kids. I know, be a good example. It's just in my face right now and I slipped."
"It's also allowed to be hard, Kyle. I spent months with the people they idolize and believe me, they'd lose their minds if they ever really encountered the real deal." Garrison shrugged. "I'm also a cop in a mansion where ACAB is a mantra and I can't even disagree with them half the time. You know, I could have walked away. With Adrienne, or being an-" He cut himself off. No one needed to know about the Avengers. "Something more open. And instead, here I am. Because I took an oath. Because I believe in something that is bigger and more important than I am, eh? It's not a lot of comfort, but... fuck, I don't know... it's important. It matters."
Kyle snorted, and looked up. "I know man, I'm here because I'm real fucking tired of kids ending up in the same place I did. I'm just also just tired of being tired of it. I know I put my foot in it, I ran myself exhausted in the Danger Room so I could stop and think about how to unfuck the situation. Sometimes it's easier to actually think if I'm dead tired. I'm working on it. I just. I dunno, man, I gotta think more before I can apologize, because my head's not on right. I'm not walking away, I"m not quitting anything again. I just gotta figure shit out before I eat crow, because you know how this goes if I don't. I could be as fucking genuine as anything, they're gonna pick it to death, and we'll be right back in the middle of this and it won't have made it better for them."
