I think part of what makes things so awful for Jon is being surrounded by people doing the things he could otherwise tell himself no one would have the strength to do in his position. like choosing to slowly wither and die rather than feed an Entity (Daisy), gouging one’s eyes out to escape the Magnus Institute (Melanie), remaining human while being the Archivist (Gertrude), being a hero despite everything (Adelard Dekker). these are all extremely difficult things but somehow every time he’s like “I’m not sure I have the strength to do this thing” someone else is always like “I do!!” like oh, good for you! some of us are regular-ass people who can’t do these insane feats!!!!
