First off, LOVE the new chapter. Thank you 🙏 you are too good. And second, I was just wondering something based on the part where you talked about randor and marlenas love being the rare case of love at first sight. In this AU was that the case for Catra or adora, or did their love develop through their affair? Like I don’t think either is a better way than the other to develop a love, just wondering what your canon was.

So, first I wanna say I don't believe in "love" at first sight, just that there can be something about a person that can draw you in instantly, and then as you get to know them it can turn into love (or they can turn out to be an asshole. You win some, you lose some). This was the case for both Catradora and Adora's parents. They were instantly drawn to each other. Catra fell for Adora hard and was in love probably within, like, two weeks (although the depth of the feeling changed as they aged and grew up together), and Adora fell more slowly and with less awareness, she just knew she was drawn to Catra and infatuated with her. By the time they were 13, she realized that she had a big fat crush and by the time that she kissed Catra for the first time (at fourteen, just to see what it's like) she knew she loved her, but she tried to bury the feeling since she knew it would end in heartbreak. She couldn't keep doing that once they started their affair in earnest, though.

For Randor and Marlena, Randor was the prince and Marlena was the daughter of a Baron from the Bright Moon border. Randor met her for the first time when they were both in their early twenties. He was immediately captivated by her beauty, but in a more "fuckboy" way than a "love at first sight" thing. She was quietly in the background as Randor's mother met with Marlena's father, and then at the end of the meeting he went up to talk to her and took her hand, intending to kneel and kiss it (and also maybe say a few lines and see if she would run off to the gardens with him). Marlena clocked him a mile away though, and immediately looked unimpressed with him. That's what got him. He immediately wanted nothing more than to woo her - like actually woo, and not just have an affair. He was used to just about everybody falling for the cocky, handsome, future-king act, and he knew there was no one he would rather have at his side than someone who was above all that.

Yes, Adora's father was a total slut before one look from Marlena "tamed" him, and that's why he always said it was love at first sight. He was honestly proud of his daughter for following his footsteps - in regards to both the affair and falling in love.

BIOGRAPHY.

Vincente, or Javi or Vinnie as he’s most likely known as by those around him, was born as the first child of Alma Olsen, a half-Danish veterinarian, and Manolo Gutiérrez, a Mexican immigrant politician, who together became very known in the Roswell community when the couple decided to settle down in New Mexico. He was the first and then a few years later, the couple welcomed one more child into the world, fulfilling the plan the two had about their “perfect little family”. From an outsider’s perspective, the family seemed perfect, and that they were. Vincente really couldn’t say otherwise. It sometimes even made him sick.

Growing up, it quickly became clear to him that he wasn’t the apple of his father’s eyes, the person he looked up to the most. That spot was occupied by the youngest Gutiérrez, which wasn’t something he ever resented them for, but the difference in how their father would treat the two made it so that Javi felt completely disconnected from the man. And since he didn’t have to worry about gaining his father’s approval, he pretty much did whatever he wanted to do whenever he pleased.

Javi would spend more time in detention than in class, had horrible grades despite being forced to having multiple tutors over the years, would get in fights for no reasons (or sometimes in order to protect his brother), went out every weekend with friends and really just caused chaos around the town his father would soon have a major political role in.

His father became the mayor when he was sixteen, at the peak of his rebellious phase, and as much as his parents would plea for him to be better and quieter in order to not draw too much attention towards the family, Javi simply never listened. He never liked being told what to do and if anything, that only encouraged him to be worse.

As his adult years rolled in, Vincente became less of a troublemaker but still somewhat volatile if rubbed the wrong way. He has some anger issues to work through but he does that by punching something or someone and calls it a healthy mechanism.

Unlike everyone in his family, Vincente never really made any plans for his future nor was he very ambitious growing up, which lead him to enrolling himself in the local college only to drop out a few months later. It wasn’t until he found out about the Fire Academy, and started his training, that he felt as if he was meant for anything in his life.

He’s a very confident player (a fuckboy, if you will) but still somewhat insecure about his sexuality. With the eyes on his family when his father was mayor, he never truly felt prepared enough to be open about that. He has been with both women and men but only ever confided that with his younger brother.

Javi can and will charm his way into and out of pretty much everything – he knows how good looking he is and uses that to his advantage. Though, that’s exactly what lead him to Josephine and to accidentally having a baby with her which is why he’s trying to be more careful now. He doesn’t regret it for a second, he thinks Adora is the best thing that has ever happened to him, but he still doesn’t completely feel prepared for it. He does try, he can’t let Josie handle that on her own and he wants to be there for her and their baby as much as he can.

one of my favorite things is how canonically adora likes femme clothing but the fandom consistently draws her in total butch fuckboi style in homage to her jock roots

I hope I can approach this in a way that doesn’t make me sound like an absolute jackass, because I respect that you enjoy that, and I don’t want to step all over your or anyone else’s good vibes! But I personally don’t agree Adora has shown that much interest in femme clothing, and at least according to Noelle in a few interviews, she’s actually kind of uncomfortable with it.

From one interview: “[her original She-Ra form has] these elements of femininity that Adora is very uncomfortable with: the skirt, the tiara, the long flowing hair” and “when she goes to prom she’s so uncomfortable just in this basic dress she’s wearing because it’s not her.” 

The dress in Adora’s As-I-Lay-Dying-Dream-Future hallucination is the one divergence from this. I previously analyzed what it could mean with an attempt at an open-minded neutral approach, but Unpopular Opinion(TM), I'm actually not crazy about it. Catra, Glimmer, and Bow were dressed in a way that feels very true to them, but the feeling I get when I see Adora’s look is that the desire for an homage to 80s She-Ra was given precedence over something that would've felt like a more natural evolution of this Adora’s individual expression of choice. It almost feels as much like a costume as her original She-Ra form. Probably I would feel better about it if we got to see her looking relaxed and comfortable and happy dressed like that, but the circumstances mean we only see her looking confused, scared, and sad with just one short smile, so I don’t end up feeling fully sold on it.

That’s just how I feel though, and it’s much more of an emotional gut reaction than a thinking brain reaction, and I’m not, like, trying to debate it. I don’t think of it as some huge character misstep, and I respect that other people like it, and I know I’m just being needlessly weird about it, and I apologize for word vomiting all of that onto your simple friendly ask. But, yes, the art that dresses Adora in fuckboi style definitely does crack me up.
