"When the publisher of Sports Illustrated and Men’s Journal announced last week that its magazines would start to publish AI-generated articles, its CEO assured readers that the practice wouldn’t result in a decline in quality."
Men's Journal's AI-generated article: 18 serious factual errors
CNET's AI-generated articles: rampant factual errors and also plagiarism
Using AI to generate articles is the modern journalistic equivalent of selling "strawberry jam" made of red dye and no strawberries

For fanfic-related reasons I've been researching: Meals Daniel Pierce would have learned how to cook in the 1930s/1940s (after his wife died): Meals Francis Mulcahy would have learned how to cook (shown how by his sister from what she learned in Girl Scouts, picked up in various places as a novice priest): Meals Hawkeye Pierce learned how to cook (shown by his dad or by Carlye). (Home cooking was then a pretty solidly gendered skill. Daniel Pierce probably continued to benefit from a lot of casseroles given to him by his neighbours to make sure the poor widower and his son ate properly, no matter how well Daniel learned to cook for the two of them. And from what little we know about Francis Mulcahy's mother, she probably didn't spend time even teaching her daughter how to cook.) So, clicking on a blog title "What foods were popular in the 1930s?" is pretty much a gimme for me. But I have never been more sure that this article was "written" by an AI and posted without human intervention.

listen, I do not condone historical misinformation, but there is nothing I get delight out of more than this absolutely batshit article from a religious website that unironically lists Flint as a mythological god of pirates

Muscle Revolution in Bangkok: The Rise of Dusit and 'Bangkok is About to Bulk Up
Tumblr media
Dusit, 20, a young promise of Bangkok's bulking up
In the bustling streets of Bangkok, a new phenomenon is taking shape, and at the forefront of this muscular revolution is Dusit, a 20-year-old powerhouse who has become the poster boy for "Bangkok is About to Bulk Up." This ambitious project has captured the attention of locals and fitness enthusiasts alike as it seeks to redefine the standards of strength and physique.
Dusit, an embodiment of the movement's goals, stands out with his extraordinary muscle mass that seems almost surreal for someone his age. His journey into the world of bodybuilding started as a personal quest for self-improvement, but it quickly transformed into something much bigger – a collective movement that is reshaping the very fabric of Bangkok's fitness culture.
The genesis of "Bangkok is About to Bulk Up" can be traced back to a group of fitness enthusiasts who sought to challenge the conventional norms of body image and redefine masculinity. The movement, which started as a small community initiative, gained momentum, attracting individuals like Dusit who were eager to push their physical limits and challenge societal expectations.
Dusit, a student pursuing a degree in business, initially started weightlifting as a means of stress relief and self-discovery. However, his dedication and passion for the sport soon caught the attention of the movement's organizers. Impressed by his commitment and the potential to inspire others, they invited him to become one of the prominent faces of their campaign.
The philosophy behind "Bangkok is About to Bulk Up" goes beyond mere aesthetics. It aims to break down stereotypes surrounding masculinity and encourage individuals to embrace diverse body types. In a society that often idealizes lean figures, the movement challenges these standards, promoting a healthier, more inclusive perception of strength and beauty.
Dusit, with his chiseled physique and infectious enthusiasm, has become a symbol of this cultural shift. He believes that the project provides a platform for individuals to embrace their bodies and pursue fitness goals without succumbing to societal pressure.
As the movement gains traction, gyms across Bangkok are witnessing a surge in participants eager to join the ranks of those determined to bulk up. The project has sparked conversations about body positivity, mental well-being, and the importance of embracing individuality in a world that often dictates rigid standards of beauty.
While "Bangkok is About to Bulk Up" may be seen by some as an unconventional approach to fitness, its impact is undeniable. Dusit and his fellow participants are not just sculpting their bodies; they are shaping a new narrative that challenges preconceived notions and celebrates the diverse ways in which individuals can achieve personal growth.
As Dusit continues to inspire others with his dedication and resilience, "Bangkok is About to Bulk Up" is poised to become a cultural movement that transcends the boundaries of traditional bodybuilding, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of Bangkok's fitness culture. Whether you're a seasoned lifter or a newcomer to the gym, this movement encourages everyone to embrace their unique journey towards strength, resilience, and self-discovery.

the issue with AI chatbots is that they should NEVER be your first choice if you are building something to handle easily automated forms.... consider an algorithmic "choose your own adventure" style chatbot first
it really seems to me that the air canada chatbot was intended to be smth that could automatically handle customer service issues but honestly... if you do not need any sort of "human touch" then i would recommend a "fancier google form"... like a more advanced flowchart of issues. If you NEED AI to be part of your chatbot I would incorporate it as part of the input parsing - you should not be using it to generate new information!

Andersson, from the opposition center-left Social Democrats, suggested Thursday to Swedish outlet Aftonbladet: “Surveillance performed by police officers could be carried out by the military. In addition, there is technical know-how with the military that they could assist with.”[...] Sweden could also ask Norway, Denmark or Finland for additional police support, Andersson added. Sweden’s Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer, from the center-right Moderate Party, finds the idea of deploying the military an “interesting thought,” public broadcaster SVT reported.[...] Defense Minister Pål Jonson, also from the Moderates, said deploying the military was not currently on the agenda. “There are no such plans currently,” he said.

After an explosion was reported yesterday in Uppsala, a city 70 km (43 mi) north of Sweden, which killed a 25-year-old woman, the prime minister gave a speech responding to several murders in Sweden. The prime minister, Ulf Kristersson of the center-right Moderate Party, said that gangs are responsible for these continuous murders. He said that the government would change its legislation to address gang violence, via stricter migration and surveillance policy assisted by the Swedish military.[...] Kristersson said the government’s “naivety” and “cluelessness” are the causes, which he said they would correct by denying more migrants entry into the country. “While immigration increases to Europe, it decreases to Sweden,” Kristersson said.[...] Starting on October 1st, Kistersson said there will be a preventive wiretapping measure instituted in Sweden. By the prime minister’s words, it seems as if the police will be able to listen to domestic calls. We were not able to provide more details on this new policy at the time of writing.[...]
On July 1st, 2023, Sweden passed laws doubling the sentence for gang-related crimes and added a law against recruiting children. The prime minister said the government was going to create “search zones” as well, where people will be searched for weapons. He said he had summoned the commander-in-chief of the armed forces to assist the police in these programs. Assisting in internal conflicts is not necessarily a part of the Armed Forces’ duties, which are usually more focused on assisting in international conflict, “to defend Sweden and its territories against armed attacks,” and “safeguarding national sovereign rights and interests in areas outside the territory.”[...] Currently, Sweden is governed by a right-wing coalition majority formed by Kristersson’s Moderate Party and two other right-wing parties. The party with the largest number of votes in Parliament is the Sweden Democrats, a nationalist party that wants to “keep organized crime out” via a strict migration policy and is “not afraid to challenge the status quo,” according to their website. The government needs the Sweden Democrats to get a majority in the Riksdag.

It's so magical when you're looking for info online and you find a defunct, but still accessible, forum thread from 10+ years ago
and you get to read through the niche industry-specific in-jokes and opinions of internet strangers
and 100 replies later you've seen your query answered, that answer rebutted, and then answered again.
And you feel a nostalgia for these long-gone strangers, the internet of old, and a life you'll never live.
