Good morning babes, time for angst

So y'all know that one episode of Justice League Unlimited, "Kid Stuff", right? Where Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Latern (John Stewart) got turned into kids by Morgan Le Fey to defeat her son, Mordred. At the end of the episode, Batman says, "I haven't been a kid since I was eight years old."

Think about that. Now. Think of Billy Batson, AKA, Captain Marvel (Shazam), the secret child superhero who's been losing his childhood thanks to being the Champion of Magic. The age where he starts being Captain Marvel varies, but imagine if he got his powers at only eight years old.

Imagine Billy becoming a member of the Justice League only a few months later, and being a superhero for years. His coworkers were none the wiser, not even Batman.

Billy having so much responsibility and the weight of the magical world on his shoulders from a very young age, and he's never once had someone help him or asked for help (besides the Wizard and Tawny). He's encountered so many dangerous threats and attacks on his life, both as Captain Marvel and ad Billy, but continues to fight everyday for the sake of everyone else. He loves his city, his friends, and the people that will never know him. He's truly pure of heart.

Now. Imagine an accident happening years later when Billy is like 15 years old, where his age gets revealed to the league and everything is in chaos. Members are confused, upset, angry, shocked, but most of all, they just don't know what to think. An important member of the league has been revealed to be a kid this entire time in secret, hiding it from them for so long.

A meeting is immediately held and Captain Marvel is forced to attend not as Captain Marvel, but as Billy Batson. The chair and tables feel so much higher than before to him, but he sits down at his regular seat and looks at everyone in the eyes. They argue, question him about everything, but Billy is surprisingly calm and mature about everything. He shouldn't be this mature. He'd still a kid, someone says.

"I haven't been a kid since I was eight years old." A sentence that gives Batman chills. Billy hasn't been a kid in so long, and neither has he.

He never knew it before, but they were so alike this whole time. Opposite on the spectrum, but still the same. Two sides of one coin are still made of the same material.

Maybe that was why Batman speaks up for Billy after that, and stands up for him to continue being a league member.

I gotta say I did not expect I’d love Miles this much, enough to look up shit like Secret War and Civil War II reading order, and worse, subject myself to Bendis’ writing of all things (he’s the reason why I stopped being a comic stan 5 years ago. I were a DC/ Superfam fan. You know the beef was BEEFING). Like, my tolerance of that dude now only stops at him being one of Miles’ creators. So that better writers can do the kid justice years later. That’s it.

Like, why is the “r u and Ganke together haha” a whole shtick that comes up multiple times during his run? It’s so annoying and painful to read. Miles can go around being paired up with different girls but the moment THAT question came up you know he gonna be super defensive and >:( about it which, eh, just does not line up with anything else happening in whatever story is happening at the time. At all.

The only silver of light is that Miles actually never says he doesn’t like boys, he just denies ever dating Ganke. Like, he could just say he doesn’t swing that way and the question would have stopped, but he doesn’t. So I know he be running around kissing the punk-est boy in the whole spider verse, ha!

Idk I’m near the end of Bendis’ run and some of it r good but a lot of them put me thru excruciating pain (cringe) so I have to complain about it.

Did I mention I were a DC stan 6 years ago? I were a DC stan 6 years ago so this isn’t even my first rodeo with white dudes writing weirdest things in American comic, but I just can’t believe I got dragged into this again because Miles blinks his bambi eyes on screen and makes me want to rotate him in my brain so I need to know the lore of him in every medium, apparently.

cannot stop thinking about lupa and juno's reactions to jason's death. god did juno feel it when he died? did she hear his string get cut? did she wail loud enough that all of olympus heard it? what was it like realizing the boy she loved like a son was dead? was was it like watching his father not even shed a tear? was she the one to tell lupa? and on lupa's end, how angry do you think she was? this is her pup. her youngest pup. he was so young when he first started, when juno first gave him to her? he learned how to roughhouse with her packmates. he learned to fly with her! did she snap at juno? did she scream and curse and blame juno? did she howl mournfully?

#these are his moms!!! #not very good ones but his moms nonetheless!! #when he fought krios do you think he heard their voices in his head encouraging him #'victory or death jason' lupa says in head 'die like a roman or don't die at all.' jason picks up his sword again. #krios knock his sword out of his hand and jason bares his teeth. that's okay. he doesn't nned a weapon to fight #he wrestles krios to the floor and the titan's throat is bared and it would quick and simple to rip it out but he hesitates. #normal people dont do that. his head pounds. his lady's voice exhoes in his head 'go for the kill always my champion.' #jason leans down and clamps his teeth around krios' throat and rips it out. the titans gasps pathetically underneath him #it's not enough. he can already see the wound beginning to heal so he digs his fingers into the wound and starts pulling #the neck rips quickly once he gets started and he snaps the spine as he goes. finally with one last tug the head comes clean off. #he stands up from where he's kneeling over the body and picks up the head by its hair turning around to face the legion. #there is ichor staining his mouth golden. it drips onto his armor. he lifts the head up high. the legions stares at him in shock and awe. #they look terrified he notes absently.
