Personally, I like to live in a little happy bubble where they figure out how to cure Mary, and in turn Pamela (or at least help them control their powers) and Renee and Pamela get to ride off into the sunset happily ever after and Mary gets to keep in regular touch with Pamela
That would be so nice!
And honestly I'm thinking it will turn out something like that. Based on the very casual bts content we probably shouldn't have seen, we know Mary is at least back with the Bat team by the last two episodes but she's also still rocking the orange hair in some of that, so I think poison Mary and Mary will merge. I think it's a matter of Mary addressing her anger and learning to control her powers.
But Pam might just be too far gone.
Bro [inclusive], Pam should go to Coryana! It's not like she needs to hurt people. She doesn't have a homicidal compulsion. She just feels protective of nature and is very much willing to kill those who pose a threat to it but in Coryana they respect their land and protect it. Ivy could replenish the desert rose and be their new queen!
Yay I solved a fake problem!

Best of DC: Week of February 19th, 2020
Best of this Week: DCeased: Unkillables #1 - Tom Taylor, Karl Mostert, Trevor Scott, Neil Edwards, John Livesay, Rex Lokus and Saida Temofonte
Tumblr media
Ahhh shit, here we go again. DCeased was awesome.
In much the same way that the original Marvel Zombies filled my heart with dread, DCeased absolutely blew my mind with the short six issues that it took place in. It was equal parts violent and heartbreaking as the heroes of Earth had to figure out a way to either stop the Anti-Life virus or die trying. We had a good spin off with the single issue, A Good Day to Die and now we have Unkillables, another spin off focusing on some of the more violent heroes and villains while the events of the main series unfold elsewhere.
The book begins on the first day of the Anti-Life virus being released as Deathstroke finds himself on a job in Kentucky. Throughout the original story, I did kinda wonder what people like him or the other assassins were up to, given that we saw a select number of other dead supervillains throughout like Giganta and Clayface. As Tom Taylor and Karl Mostert unfold the story we see that Slade Wilson was killing some infected Neo-Nazis before an attempt to renegotiate his price ends with him infected too.
Tumblr media
Mostert and Taylor set this opening up in a very comedic way with the white supremacits running from something in the local church as Deathstroke looks on, puzzled as to why they’re running before taking a few out before heading inside. Mostert, Rex Lokus and I think Trevor Scott then give us an awesome single page of Slade facing down a horde of zombies with only his gun and a bloody sword. He looks like a badass and, in the following panels, proves it by killing them with ease.
Mostert doesn’t shy away from Slade’s brutal violence and shows how fluidly he can kill with dynamic poses as he shoots and slices multiple enemies at once. This accentuated by the excellently colored spurts of blood from the zombies and the gory detail of blood on the walls. There’s even a really good panel of one of the zombies being cut in half with Scott inking the silhouette as their blood and insides drip down. Even better is when Slade gets infected and violently rips his mask off before coming back to his senses while choking a guy.
Tom Taylor introduces a unique aspect here as Deathstroke returns to normal on the second day of the virus being introduced. As we learn later, it’s due to Slade’s unique super soldier DNA that allows him to fight off the infection, effectively being immune to a point. I can definitely see this being a double edged sword for him as the infection seems to last for a day before being purged from his system. This makes him unique amongst both the heroes and villains of Earth as maybe a potential savior.
Tumblr media
I’d also like to praise Saida Temofonte for her amazing lettering as well. She does an amazing job, not only with word balloons, but with captions that have a bloody background and the typefaces she uses for sound effects. For the most part, they fit the gruesomeness of the story with intense and bloody BANGs to eerie RRRRRRs, signaling the incoming zombies. Deathstroke’s scream as he claws his own face is intense, scratchy and blood curling until we get an AMAZING title page with names filling the empty space.
As things progress, we cut to Jason Todd in the Batcave. The silence is eerie as we get one small “spsh” sound as Jason steps through the blood trail of Bruce, Tim and Dick. Unfortunately, this seems to take place shortly after the events of DCeased #2 when an infected Dick and Tim attack and infect Batman, leaving Alfred to kill them all. Jason, like most readers, is shocked because he thought Bruce would have found a way to survive and then he’s met by Ace the Bathound. After letting Ace see that he’s not infected, Jason proceeds to make graves for his brothers and father before speeding off in the Batmobile to find the rest of his family with Ace.
These scenes are powerful as Jason, normally the black sheep of the family, has to deal with the fact that he’s one of few left. Why wasn’t Bruce prepared? Why was he the one left and not Dick or Tim? Damian’s still alive in Metropolis, but effectively, Jason is all alone. Mostert and I believe Neil Edwards show Jason’s love for his family as he carves out wooden headstones and buries them in the cave. Without a word of dialogue, this speaks volumes about Jason’s love for his family.
Tumblr media
Elsewhere in Gotham, Ravager, Rose Wilson with a missing eye, unlike her main continuity counterpart, is curled up in her apartment in fear. The zombies are pounding on her door when Slade radios in and tells her it’s time to escape. Rose has the ability to see into the future in short bursts and sees that everytime she goes for the door, Zombies come through and kill her. Deathstroke, however, has a plan. As a side note, it’s great to see Rose in gear similar to what she wore in Geoff Johns’ “Teen Titans” while also complementing Deathstroke’s current armor.
Unfortunately for Deathstroke, as he keeps his eyes to the sky, he sees the terror that is an infected Man-Bat flying at him with a terrifying SCReeeee as he crashes through the window and smashes the plane on the roof Rose runs to her dad and, believing him to be infected, plunges her sword through his chest and he screams “Ow.” This scene is pure comedy made even better by the dramatic rain and fire in the background. Soon after, Mirror Master, Evan McCulloch, shows up offering them help.
I don’t know what the reason is for using the Scottish version of the character, but it doesn’t really matter as the representation of the Mirror Dimension is still cool as hell. While wearing special glasses that block signals, they walk through the dimension and Mostert draws an epic depiction of it with all of the violence, gore and death through the many mirrors while the characters look miniscule compared to the vastness of it all. The Mirror Dimension has always been terrifying and McCulloch could do a lot to solve the problem, but it makes sense that he doesn’t. Cause it’s terrifying.
Tumblr media
After many pages, we arrive at the rest of the stars (fodder) of the series in Vandal Savage, Solomon Grundy, The Creeper, Cheetah, Lady Shiva, Bane, Deadshot and Captain Cold. I do have a bit of a continuity issue as Cold was shown to have been one of the Infected during the events of “A Good Place to Die,” but alternatively this series could explain how he got there or, much like that story, it’s off base with what’s happening in the main pages. But some of these additions are pretty interesting to say the very least.
Savage is near immortal, but has been shown to have been killed before. There’s a high chance that using Deathstroke, he’ll find a way to cure and rule over the people of the Earth after the heroes leave. Grundy is already dead, so can he get infected? The Creeper is much like Deathstroke in that he can heal from anything, so it makes sense that he’s managed to survive. Cheetah is strong and fast, but I don’t rate her chances high and the rest, while immensely skilled, are still just human. This is a ragtag group, but they’re not averse to getting the job done by any means.
The rest of the issue focuses on Jason Todd and his fight to rescue the remaining members of the Batfamily. Mostert, Lokus and John Livesay give readers an awesome assault on the Gotham PD with Cassandra Cain as Black Bat, James Gordon and Harvey Bullock fighting back against the zombies. Cass awesomely kicks and knees zombies in the background while Harvey and Jim shoot them. I LOVED Cass as Batgirl/Black Bat and it was awesome to see the return of the iconic costume and a character that I like so much.
Tumblr media
Of course, Temofonte thrills with the lettering here again. She sells the panic in both Jim and Bullock as they fight off the horde as well as the frankness of Bullock as he has to break it to Jim that Blck Bat is the only one coming. The static-y bubbles that she uses on Bullock when he gets infected is also amazing and saddening, but gets even worse when Cass has to “CRCK” his neck to kill him. Soon after, Jason plows through the GCPD in the Batmobile with a “CRNNNCH” that shrinks around the vehicle.
Jason rescues Cass and Jim after shooting the remaining zombies in the head and plans to get the hell out of dodge. Jim, still holding out on the idea of hope, tells Jason that Barbara is still out there somewhere, but Jason, knowing that it’s no longer the time to keep secrets, reveals his and Cass’ identities and shows Jim that Barb is dead. He then takes the haggard detective to her last known location and Mostert and Lokus sell the utter despair of the scene.
Infected versions of Barb, Stephanie Brown, Batwoman and Catwoman were killed by Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn in Issue #3 of DCeased (if I remember right). This scene of James finding his daughter is depressingly grey and his facial expressions show us just how painful this is for him. He’s lost just about everything and cries in his grief. Jason, however, finds the dead body of the Joker and ties him to the front of the Batmobile before they all make their escape to Bludhaven.
Tumblr media
This first issue of a three part miniseries already has me as excited as the original story did. I love each of the characters being used, the callbacks to past history and the way that everyone is being written. Each of these violent characters sees that there’s no need to hold back anymore as the regular rules are tossed out of the window. Everyone now has different amounts of pain and grief to deal with while others have different hopes of power or a cure. Ultimately, I don’t think things will end ultra well given the events of the main series, but I have no doubts that this will stand on its own.
Tom Taylor continues to be excellent when writing the despair and tragedies of DCeased and lifting up lesser characters, like The Creeper. His scripting and dialogue are a joy to read and I really feel like he’s got a grasp on everyone. Karl Mostert brings their all to this book with awesome panels and scenes that make readers want to wince, but look again to see the utter brutality of what they’re witnessing. His art is stellar. The various inkers definitely bring it to life alongside Lokus’ vibrant colors and Temofonte’s amazing letters.
Tumblr media
I’m already gleefully anticipating the next issue and it more than justifies the $5.99 price, high recommend!

Poison ( III )
Villain’s are people too, are they not? (Y/N) is taking the “home grown” terror title a little too seriously. You’re really really bad, until you meet a certain super soldier who makes you consider a career change. It’s a lengthy process, but you’re willing if it’s for the right reasons. Maybe you’re not so bad after all?
//basically poison ivy and a little bit of bane but with marvel characters?? I’d be original but I love her and them so much so sorry. also some changes, idk I’m making them my own but completely based of the DC characters SNS. Nickname Ivy, real name, yours duh!//
***this is my first attempt at fanfic so any feedback is welcome! I love all these characters dearly so, here goes nothing! Hope you enjoy***
A/N: Violence, language, crime. I’ll update these as the chapters come out
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The charity auction was the perfect place to snag Green. They knew you frequented places of high wealth, and always took a chance when it came to diamonds. After another couple months of stake-outs, recon, and blackouts from various team members, they'd finally discovered a pattern.
"You've got to hand it to this girl, she sure knows how to stay under the radar. I bet everyone who's ever came into contact with her just see's a pretty girl in a known hang-out for wealthy men and just written her off. Brilliant, if I'm allowed to say that about a villian." Tony made multiple points. Green, as you were coded, were so stealthy, that until further investigation, they never realized you had been at this for years. Stealing from the wealthy for whatever reason you chose, causing entire buildings to erupt into chaos, you were good, really good. And the man you always had with you had no record, absolutely nothing. No address, occupation, they could only pull up a name and a birth month and that was it. Viktor Alexeev, April. The only way they could link him to any of the crimes at all was through his ring. It had a giant emerald in the middle, with a black snake curled around it, almost like a family crest, but different.
They walked in to the grand ballroom in pairs, Nat and Steve, Tony and Wanda, Bruce and Thor, and Bucky all by himself coming in last. They scattered around the room, sitting, standing, examining vantage points, and checking for alternate routes of escaping if the entire place went to shit.
"Everybody in position?" Natasha said over the coms. Five checks and yes's later, they were ready to mix and mingle, and wait for the main event to start.
Once everybody had a couple drinks in them, and had finally began to settle down, a mic BOOMED throughout the room.
"Ladies and gentleman, tonight's host, Andante Forester!" A gorgeous blonde in a very tight pink cocktail dress introduced a tall, dark skinned man in a white suit. He took long, slow strides up to the mic, being sure to wave and acknowledge multiple people in the ground on his way. He took the mic, raising it to his towering height, and spoke.
"Thank you Mindy. Good evening everybody, as you now know I'm Andante and I've decided to gather you all here to raise money for a very charitable cause. I have always had a need to serve others, my whole life since I came over from Egypt has been about ensuring my family's safety and stability. It wasn't until I realized that the same dedication to them, was also involved with my schooling that I realized I was so much more than just a caretaker. My journey has been long, and vast, and trying, but now I'm here, talking to all of you, harnessing your attention and persuading you to donate to a movement that has our best future in mind. I'm simply a man, with the means to do something for the world, and the will to see it through. So tonight, I've gathered a few lovely ladies, and a very sizable jeweled necklace deep from within the vaults of cartier, for you to take out. The man, or woman, who places the highest bid on each of our willing participants will be allowed to take our lovely ladies on a date to a public location, escorted by my own personal security of course, with this dazzling piece of jewelry hanging from her neck." And on cue, the necklace was wheeled in by three armed guards. It was massive, Andante explained it was 70 carats of the highest quality diamonds and sapphires ever crafted. Each girl was named after a gemstone, all dressed accordingly. There was Ruby, Jade, Opal, Onyx, Amber, Pearl, and Sapphire.
"Any of the seven girls on stage look like our target?" Facial recognition was good, but with the talents of this particular pair, they could never rely on that alone.
"Negative, Natasha. Our girls a (your race) red-head, these girls are either blonde, brunette, asian, white, african, or middle eastern, either one or the other, never our combo." Steve spoke.
"Any one of them can be my target. The kinky curls on Sapphire, with the bright blue dress, dark skin, and that confident smile? If she's not already a model, I'll figure out a way to make her one." Tony utters longingly into his radio.
"According to facial recognition Tony, she's a Harvard grad that owns and runs one of the most successful law firms in New York. If only you weren't already in love, huh?" Natasha and her facial recognition, she always new everything about everybody she sees, the constant paranoia probably helps too.
"Back on topic ladies and gentleman. I've got suspicious activity on the edge of the crowd, men and women alike are in a dream like state, still conscious, just... swaying." The bidding was still going like crazy, every girl had at least $100,000 bid on them, but Bucky was right, the crowd was slowly becoming dazed and disoriented, no chaos this time, everybody just seemed... high.
"She's here, keep your eyes peeled, we can't lose her this time or Fury will...." Natasha trailed off for a moment before she continued. Her tone this time much more serene, and her speech slow. "Guys, the jewels from here are just so, sparkly. They look so clean.. I want pretty necklace.."
"Natasha? Natasha? Nat. I need you to snap out of it, we need to focus and... you're right Natty, gem sparkle, lots of gems pretty together." Steve and Nat were dosed, completely taken in by the calm wave that broke over the two of them. It wasn't long before it hit the others. Soon every member of the team was high as a kite, talking about clean gems and bright lights, pretty dresses, anything and everything that DIDN'T pertain to the mission.
Bucky was slightly more resistant to whatever it was making them act like fools. He watched as the same dazzling red head came in, charmed everyone on stage, blew rose colored dust from the palm of her hand and waltz off the stage with a ten million dollar necklace hanging around her neck. As you passed by Bucky, he attempted to reach out and grab your arm, only to realize he was succumbing to your love inducing air additive. You paused briefly before looking him up and down, recognition fluttering in your eyes as you walked to stand in front of the super soldier you had previously met.
"Hiya there, sugar. I see you remember me. Don't worry, I remember you too. Thanks for the necklace." You said before presenting your jeweled chest, "I really do think it compliments my eyes, whatdaya think?" you winked and posed, pulling the slit in your dress to the side, exposing your beautiful thick legs.
"I think they..."Bucky tried hard to fight the high as he spoke. "Don't match... your.. outfit." He smiled weakly, hoping his joke came across that way and he wasn't about to get knocked out again on one of these missions. He had became unconscious more on these missions than anybody else on the team, barely remembering anything at all, except for what came back to him in dreams. To Bucky's surprise you giggled at his little joke and placed yourself closer to him.
"Bucky, baby, I wish you did remember all the times we've met. I've grown to be quiet fond of our little chats." You raised your opposite hand and blew something directly into his face. "If you don't hurt me, I'll let you remember this time." You placed your back up against Bucky's chest and wrapped his metal arm across her throat. "You wouldn't hurt me, would you?" You looked up at Bucky with your sad (Y/E/C) eyes and he shook his head no. He had hurt many people in his life, and you just couldn't be one of them. The effects of whatever made him dreamy slowly wore off, and he finally felt the cold your body seemed to radiate.
"If you're noticing the temperature difference, you've said it reminds you of Christmas morning in Brooklyn when you were younger. 1936, younger I think." Bucky memorized every feature of your face, it was soft, your nose was short, with a crooked bridge, big rosy cheeks, and, freckles? Definitely freckles underneath the makeup you were wearing. Your eyes shined like the moon as you glanced up at him. You appeared so gentle, how did you ever become SHIELD's most wanted. You removed yourself from under Bucky's arm and allowed him to regain his senses.
"I like you, Bucky. You never seem to quit, but every time I give you the upper hand you never take it." Your seductive demeanor paused as you spoke, Bucky had a nagging feeling that this was actual honesty coming from you. He felt things too, but you had your ways of making him feel certain ways, so it probably was just another affect. "If you're wondering if you're still under my spell, you're not." Well there goes that idea. "There's something weird about you. I don't like it, not one bit." You circled him slowly, trailing your perfectly manicured finger across his torso. "I know you still see me as the bad guy and all the other cliches; however, if you want to arrest me, good luck, but, if you're willing to talk to your super friends, I've left a list of the REAL charities in this area who have received sizable donations every time I've 'made a stop' in your jacket pocket." A soft grin manifested over your cherry red lips. "I know you won't remember all of this, but I'm sure y'all are smart enough to figure it out." You kissed him on his cheek, leaving a faint lipstick mark in its place, blew a low dose of plant hormone in his face and spoke one last time. "Everybody's effects will wear off in about fifteen minutes, yours won't, but they'll know what to do with you. And I go by Ivy, by the way. Your friends can stop calling me green." You adjusted yourself, and spoke not to him, but to your henchman. "Viktor darling, it's time for our grand exit." A large blast was then heard on the east wall, crumbling a hole large enough for the hulk to walk through, you turned to look at Bucky one last time, and then slipped away into the darkness of the night. Leaving Bucky unconscious, yet again.
"I'm starting to worry about the long term effects of him being unconscious this often. We have no idea what he's being dosed with or what it's doing to him."
"Well Cap, I'd say it's knocking him out entirely, wouldn't you?" Bucky was slowly coming too, the arguing voices of Tony and Steve rarely stopped after these missions.
"Weren't you in charge of making sure things like this stopped happening? She's taking us out at the same time and stealing millions of dollars right in front of our faces and you can't seem to do a damn thing about it Tony!"
"Right, because tossing that metal frisbee at her in your drunken state was a much better contribution. Thank you for your service, you truly are a patriot Steven." Bucky could no longer tell if his head hurt due to his possible concussion, or Steve and Tony bickering like old maids.
"Could you two can it? What's a guy gotta do around here to get some peace and quiet?" Bucky groaned as he sat up. The whole team crowded him in about .5 seconds, basically suffocating him again with the same questions they always asked after he fell. Only this time, he actually remembered what happened.
"Yes." The room went silent, all eyes were bulging and staring directly at Bucky, gazes unwandering, he could feel the tension between everybody. He knew they all thought he'd caught a lead, that Green, Ivy, had made a mistake, but he didn't have a lead, he just had a name, and an uncomfortable feeling in his stomach.
"Yes what? You, remember? Like the whole everything?" Memory loss was common after interacting with Ivy, the whole team could barely remember bits and pieces of all their interactions. If it weren't for security cameras and Tony and Rhodey's body cams, they'd know absolutely nothing about who and what they were dealing with.
"Yes all of it, she let me remember, made sure I did, even gave me a name." Stunned, every single person in the room had shock written on their foreheads. She had always been very discreet, moved in the shadows but always did the dirty work. She was cunning, and ambitious, they'd never gotten more than an appearance, and even that was spotty. Now they had a name, something was going on and they all knew it. She wasn't an ordinary villain, this was something unique. Bucky explained the entire scene, never once interrupted. As he finished, he saw the wheels turning, everybody had questions, nobody understood, why had she basically given up? And why to Bucky?
"So she said she likes you, gave you her name, and actually put herself in a chokehold with your arm?" Bucky nodded yes, not really believing it himself.
"Where's the list?"
"The what?"
"You said that she slipped a list of places in your pocket, where is it?"
"I'd assume in my pocket since I've been unconscious till now, Steve." Bucky rifled through his pockets, starting with the lower ones, he checked his jacket pockets and nothing. It was until he checked the breast pocket of his jacket behind his handkerchief that he found the list. It was three pages long, and had the names of over a dozen charities, families, and street corners.
"I'd say that's a lead there Barnes." and it was. Just, not how they imagined.
// How’s it doing so far?? I’m really liking how it’s all going so far! P.S. if you guys want to throw random vocab words at me I’ll try and find a way to incorporate them and tag you! Thanks for reading! May Odin bless you! //

Poison Ivy - Ame-Comi - DC
This was one of the Ame-Comi figures I was after, and it eventually turned up on eBay.
Front:
Tumblr media
I love the pose of this figure and the colour scheme. To me, she looks more like a relative of Poison Ivy, than Poison Ivy herself, but I like her in her own right.
I like the amount of detailing that has gone into her vines and leafy clothing.
Vine hands:
Tumblr media
The texture work is nice here, and I love the grasping vine hands
Feet:
Tumblr media
The leaves are well-sculpted here, and the shading in the paint adds a lot ot the leaves. She’s also got her toenails painted neatly.
Base:
Tumblr media
Ignoring the marks, the base logo is nicely placed, so she isn’t covering it in any significant way. Does take up a lot of room though.
Left:
Tumblr media
The vines curl around her hair, which I think is a nice touch. The figure has a nice amount of depth to her.
Vine close-up:
Tumblr media
The detailing is really nice on these, and there aren’t too many joins. Here we can see one, to the left of the photo.
Right:
Tumblr media
Some thicker vines on this side, and some transitioning of the leaves on her legs.
Arm vine:
Tumblr media
Nice blend of colours on the vine itself, and I don’t think I want to get in its way.
Back:
Tumblr media
Here we can see how the vines like to play with her hair,. We’ve also got plenty of leaf detail back here, so the back isn’t plain. The hair is sculpted nicely, and has a good amount of detail throughout.
Glad I was able to get this figure, and am happy with it. Maybe at some point I’ll try to get the mark off her base.

Costume Coupling- Stiles Stilinski
Summary: You come up with an idea for a group costume the pack can do for a Halloween party and try to catch Stiles’ attention with your costume
Word Count: 2,941
Author’s Note: I literally started on this a year ago. This was the first imagine I started writing and then I got stuck and ended up writing an Isaac imagine. I forced myself to finish it. Honestly, I just wanted a Halloween imagine based around the reader’s costume. Also, it’s late and I don’t feel like proof reading.
Happy Halloween!
Masterlist
Tumblr media
You were laying on your stomach on Stiles bed flipping through a Party City magazine looking at Halloween costumes. Stiles was on his computer looking up something to do with supernatural creatures. You weren’t really sure why he was because Beacon Hills had been quiet for a few weeks. It seemed like Stiles was looking for trouble but you had other things on your brain.
“Stiles, can you stop searching for some supernatural monster that’s not even in here and help me figure out what to wear for the Halloween party?”
He turned around in his computer chair to face you and said, “I already told you what to be.”
“I am NOT dressing up as Princess Leia.”
“Oh, come on Y/N,” he said as he scooted the chair closer to you. “You’d look great with some Leia buns,” he laughed as he touched your hair.
You swatted his hand away, “Be serious please. I want to win the costume contest.”
“And why do you want to win so badly?”
“Do you not know me at all Stilinski? One,” you held up a finger in his face, “I love winning! Two,” you put up your second finger, “Halloween is the best holiday. You get to dress up, eat candy all day, and the movies are amazeballs!”
“Fine. How may I be of service?”
“Help me find a costume. There’s a few different categories for the contest: scariest, best non-scary, best pop culture reference, best couple’s costume, and best group.” You handed Stiles the magazine.
“Ok, so why don’t you do something scary?” Stiles asked as he began to flip through the magazine, eyes scanning the pages.
“Ehhh… I did scary last year remember?” You pulled out your phone to show you Halloween costume from the year before. “Zombie Disney princess.”
“Oh, yeah. You wouldn’t think a Disney princess could be so scary.”
You laughed, “Yeah, I scarred a trick-or-treater on my way to the party last year. I’m pretty sure I traumatized that little girl. She’ll never watch The Little Mermaid the same way again.”
“I worry about you sometimes, Y/N.”
Smiling back at your friend, “Yeah, but you still love me.”
Stiles smiled to himself. “So what about best pop culture reference?”
“What would I be though?”
“Kim Kardashian?”
You didn’t reply. You just stared at Stiles with a questioning look on you face.
“Ohhhkay, maybe not. What about Beyonce?”
“Stiles. Only Beyonce can be Beyonce.”
“So basically you’re going to turn down all my ideas?”
“Until you give me a good one, yes.”
You smiled at the lanky boy in front of you. He rose from his chair and laid on the bed next to you, pushing the magazine so it was in front of the both of you. The heat radiating from how close you two were sent shivers down your spine. You’d never admit it to anyone, but you began to develop a crush on the awkward spaz. You weren’t really sure when it had happened, but it did. He turned the page until it was on a couple dressed as ketchup and mustard.
Stiles pointed to the photo of the pair giggling, “Too bad you don’t have a boyfriend to be the mustard to your ketchup.”
Shaking your head, “Even if I had a boyfriend, I’d never let him talk me into dressing up as ketchup.”
“So if Channing Tatum knocked at your front door and asked you to be his ketchup, you’d say no?” Stiles knew how much you loved Channing Tatum and was using him against you.
“Channing would never ask me to dress up as ketchup. And besides, he’s married and I respect the sanctity of marriage.”
“You’re avoiding the question. This is in a hypothetical universe, where Channing Tatum is not married and knows you exist.”
“That’s not fair.”
“All is fair in love and Halloween,” he grinned at you thinking he was so clever.
You rolled your eyes chuckling, “Well I guess I’m gonna be ketchup then.”
“That’s what I thought.” Stiles gleamed. He kept flipping through the magazine, glancing at all the costumes. He suddenly stopped on the superhero section. You already knew what costume he was about to suggest before one syllable even left his mouth. “Batman!” Stiles shouted, eyes lighting up.
“Nope, not happening,” you said looking at the page.
“Why not?” he asked looking disappointed. “Batman’s a classic.”
“Yeah, such a classic that you’ve gone as him the last 3 times you’ve dressed up for Halloween.”
“So?” He looked at you like there wasn’t a problem with going as the same thing for multiple Halloweens.
“So, I’m not dressing up as batman, or batgirl, and neither are you.”
Stiles looked at you offended. “Why not?! Batman is the greatest superhero. He’s just a regular guy, well except for the whole being a billionaire thing. He chooses to save people even though he has no superpowers…”
You knew once Stiles got started talking about superheroes there was no stopping him. So you just set there, tuning him out, as usual. But all of Stiles rambling about Batman gave you a great idea.
“Plus he’s got the bat mobile which is like the greatest car-“
“Stiles.” You interrupted, but of course he kept going.
“-then there’s Robin. When people think of great duos, they think of Batman and Rob-“
“Stiles!” You shouted, finally getting his attention. He looked over to you, “You just gave me a great idea for a costume.” Grinning you quickly got up out of the bed and put your jacket on.
Stiles watched curiously as you grabbed your things, “Where are you going?”
“To Lydia’s.” Making eye contact with him, “Oh, and don’t plan on getting your Batman costume out of the closet. We’re going to win best group costume at the party.” You started opening the bedroom door as Stiles sat up.
“Are you going to tell me your great idea?” Stiles asked watching you about to walk out the door.
Turning around grinning at him, “Nope.”
“Would you stay still,” you commanded more than requested to Scott as you were applying makeup to his face.
“I don’t see how girls do this every day,” Scott said, your hand holding his chin in place.
“Yeah, we pile on tons of makeup every day to make ourselves look like acid got thrown on our faces,” you said sarcastically. “I’m making you look like Two-Face, it requires a lot of makeup. Would you rather where a lime green bodysuit covered in question marks?”
Scott shook his head from side-to-side fast with a terrified look on his face.
“Alright, then stop complaining,” you said grabbing his face to stop him from moving again.
“So when are you going to tell us your costume,” Stiles asked walking out of Scott’s bathroom.
“It’s a surprise. You’ll see it tonight.”
“Why did you get to pick out our costumes but we have no idea what you or the girls are wearing?”
“Because, I’m going for a group look and I don’t need you boys to ruin it.”
“Why would you think we’d ruin it,” Stiles said offended.
You were focused on Scott’s face so you weren’t looking at Stiles, but when Scott burst out laughing you had to see what he was looking at. Your eyes grew at the sight in front of you. Your hand rose up covering the giggle escaping your mouth.
“What did you do Stiles,” you asked still giggling.
“I got tired of waiting for you to put the face paint on me, so I did it myself.”
“Oh, honey,” you got up from the seat in front of Scott to walk over to Stiles. “You may be book and supernatural smart, but you know nothing about makeup.”
“I thought I did pretty good,” Stiles said.
“You went for more of a Ronald McDonald look than a Joker one.”
Scott snorted behind you and Stiles’ narrowed his eyes giving a threating look to his best friend.
“Here,” you said going in your bag and pulling out a makeup wipe. “Use this and take all that off so I have a blank canvas to work with.”
Stiles groaned annoyed as he reluctantly took the wipe from your hand and walked back to the bathroom.
You walked back over to Scott and sat back down in front of him to finish his face. Scott just sat and smirked at you.
“What,” you asked wondering why he looked like that.
“When are you going to tell him?”
“Remember what I told you about using your werewolf super abilities on me?”
“Yeah.”
“And what did I say,” you asked switching your brushes to apply more makeup.
“That it was an invasion of privacy,” Scott said quoting you.
“And?”
“And that you had a right as a human being to feel your emotions without me listening to your heartbeat or smelling your chemo signals.”
“And what did you just do, Scotty,” you asked turning his head slightly to get a better view of what you were doing.
“It doesn’t take my werewolf senses to see that you like him.”
You sighed and stopped moving the brush against his face. “Can you just leave it alone for tonight? We only get a brief period of time where we don’t have any supernatural problems. I just want to go out and have a good time with my friends.”
Scott looked at the downcast look in your eyes and decided to drop the conversation. “Alright, Y/N.”
“Why can’t the girls ever be on time,” Stiles asked his best friend as he looked around the party. “We should have just picked them up.”
“There’s no need for that.”
The two boys turned around to see a leaf clad green leotard dressed as Poison Ivy. Both boys’ mouths dropped at the redheaded beauty in front of them.
“You look amazing Lydia,” Scott said.
“Thanks. When Y/N said she wanted us to dress up as Batman villains, I was skeptical, but everything turned out great. You two look good.”
“Why thank you my good lady,” Stiles said holding the lapels of his purple jacket posing. Stiles began looking around noticing Lydia was by herself. “Where’s Y/N, Kira, and Malia?”
“They’re probably still trying to pull Malia away from the snack table before she eats all the food,” Lydia answered crossing her arms over her chest.
“Not anymore,” you responded from behind the group. The boys turned around to face you at the same time you spoke to Stiles. “Hey Puddin,” you smirked at the currently green haired boy in front of you.
“W-Wo- you, you look- just,” Stiles stuttered incoherently.
“Well aren’t you articulate,” you said smiling. “Close your mouth,” you spoke while you used your decorated bat to push his mouth closed, “You’ll catch flies.”
“Harley Quinn,” Scott said able to form real words unlike his friend.
“Or Dr. Harleen Quinzel, which ever you prefer.”
“Um, so you took the Suicide Squad route with your costume,” Stiles said, finally able to speak. He looked over you taking in your costume. From your blue and red pigtails, to your fake tattoos, and your shorts that showed off all the squats you had been doing.
“We both loved Margot Robbie’s Harley. Just because Leto’s Joker was subpar and you didn’t choose to be his Joker doesn’t mean Robbie’s Harley had to suffer,” you said grinning at the obviously nervous boy.
Scott and Lydia just watched the exchange take place in front of them. Both of them knowing how you felt.
“Wow, so it’s sort of like we’re dressed as a couple,” Stiles said fidgeting slightly.
“I guess so,” you said stepping closer to him. The song changed as you and Stiles were looking at each other intently.
“So Harls,” Stiles said stepping closer, “would you like to dance?”
“Now Stiles, I know you actually read Batman comics, so you of all people should know Harley and The Joker don’t end up together,” you answered smiling. “Harley is better with Poison Ivy. Maybe if The Joker would have noticed how much Harley adored him and how good for him she was, it would have worked out.” You slowly walked backwards to Lydia. “Maybe next time Mister J.”
Stiles was left jaw dropped once again. You two were close and he started feeling something for you a little while ago. He didn’t want to face rejection, so he kept his feelings to himself. But the words you said made him think you weren’t just referring to The Joker and Harley Quinn.
“What was that,” Lydia asked, confused to why you turned down Stiles.
“Lydia, you should know about playing hard to get. And besides, we’ve got all night.”
Stiles was standing near a wall watching you talking and laughing with some guy dressed in a Batman costume.
“Can you believe that Scott,” he said slapping Scott on the arm so he’d look up. Scott was trying to talk to Kira who was dressed as Catwoman. He found it unbelievably sexy, but Stiles kept ruining their conversation.
Stiles narrowed his eyes as you touched Batman’s should laughing as something he assumed wasn’t even that funny.
“Why don’t you just go over there and talk to her,” Scott said trying to encourage Stiles.
“I can’t just walk up to her. She already turned me down once.”
“Well if you don’t, then he’ll keep talking to her. And it looks like they’re having a pretty good conversation.”
“I can’t-,” Stiles began to speak but then he saw Batman lean in close to your ear to whisper and that set him off. “I’m going over there,” Stiles growled.
Stiles marched towards you determined to stop whatever was going on between you and bat boy.
“Hey, Y/N,” Stiles said with a huge grin on his face like he wasn’t hating the fact that you were obviously flirting with another guy.
“Uh, hey, Stiles.”
“Can I talk to you for a sec,” Stiles said. He didn’t have a plan on what to say. He was making this up as he went, but that was usually how he did things.
“Oh, um, sure,” you said glancing between him and the guy in front of you. “I’ll talk to you later Chris.” The guy was completely annoyed that Stiles interrupted the two of you, but you rather have been talking to Stiles anyway.
Stiles led you a few feet away from where you were and stopped.
“What’s up, Stiles?”
“Nothing really, I just wanted to tell you how great I thought your group costume idea was,” Stiles said. You watched him switch his weight from his left to his right foot and run his fingers through his hair. You knew that wasn’t why he pulled you away.
“You pulled me over here for that,” you asked arching your eyebrow.
“Yeah,” he said rubbing the back of his neck. “Whether we win or not I wanted you to know how good this idea was. Its way better than my idea to just go as Batman again,” he said laughing nervously.
“Is that all you wanted to talk about?” You could tell where Stiles wanted to go. You just wanted him to hurry up and get to the point.
“Yeah. I love being The Joker, and your Harley costume is great,” he commented looking you up and down. “I wish I would have known you were dressing as Suicide Squad Harely Quinn. I may have chosen to be Leto’s Joker to match.”
You smiled up at the tall brown eyed boy. “Then we would have been more of a couples costume instead of a group,” you pointed out.
“Would that have been such a bad thing,” Stiles asked not making eye contact with you. He was trying to figure out how you felt without being straight forward.
You rolled your lips back into your mouth to stop the smile from growing too big on your face. “No,” you said shaking your head.
Stiles eyes grew a little at your response. “Uh, well maybe Harley and Joker could give things a try? Again! I mean, since they already sort of dated, but like you said he didn’t realize how good Harley was for him. Maybe he just realized it too late, but there’s always time, right?”
“Right,” you said smiling closed mouthed, moving closer into Stiles.
“Maybe, next year we could do a couples costume.” Stiles fidgeted a little and glanced down at your lips.
“We’d have to be a couple in order for it to be a couples costume.”
“We could- I mean- that- that would,” Stiles stuttered.
“Do you want to go out with me Stiles,” you somehow gathered the courage to ask.
“What? Yeah! I would love too,” he said a little too eagerly for his liking.
“Good,” you said leaning in further just centimeters from his face.
“Good,” Stiles repeated you, mirroring your actions.
“You gonna make your move or what Puddin,” you asked getting back into character.
Stiles leaned down meshing his lips with yours. Your free hand that wasn’t holding your bat reached up to touch his hair. Stiles’ arm wrapped around your waist pulling you closer. The scent of his earthy cologne filling your nostrils. You felt him smile into the kiss as he pulled away making you smile in return.
“Come on,” you said grabbing his hand. “Let’s go dance.”
“You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight,” Stiles asked smiling at his Joker quote from The Dark Knight.
You rolled your eyes pulling his hand leading him to the dance floor. “You are such a nerd,” you said giggling.

Tentomon
Level Child Type Insect Attribute Vaccine/Virus/Data Field Jungle Troopers Metal Empire Nature Spirits
Info: The original type of Insect Digimon who, although it has a hard shell, still has low aggression. It has one hard claw on each of its fore-legs, and four on each of its middle- and hind-legs, and in particular, the middle-legs are able to skillfully grasp objects just like a human hand. Although the other Insects at its evolution level only possess fighting spirit, it still retains its naturally friendly sentiments, and displays its carefree way of life by doing things like sniffing the scent of flowers and napping in the shade of a tree. Its Special Move, which it possesses just in case, is hurling static electricity that it amplified with its wings (Petit Thunder).
Kunemon
Level Child
Type Larva Attribute Virus Field Nature Spirits
Info: A Larva Digimon which has lightning-patterns all over its body. As young insectoid Digimon are very unique beings among other Digimon, its evolved form is still unclear, but it seems to be obvious from Kunemon's discovery that there exist Insect Digimon other than Kabuterimon. Although it is uncertain whether the lightning-patterns on the portion considered its face can are organs equivalent to eyes, because they change shape in accordance with its emotions, it is said that they probably are eyes. Its personality is fairly malicious. Its Special Move is an electrically-charged thread of silk spewed from its hard beak (Electric Thread). If you get entangled in this thread you can get knocked out by the intense electric shock.
Tyranomon
Level Adult Type Dinosaur Attribute Data Field Metal Empire Nature Spirits Nightmare Soldiers Unknown
Info: A Digimon that resembles an ancient dinosaur that existed in the prehistoric world. It sweeps everything away with its two well-developed arms and its gigantic tail. It is extremely easy to tame due to its intelligence and docile personality. For that reason, it is highly valued by beginner Tamers, and is often raised with care. You could probably say that it is a representative figure of the most basic Digimon. Its Special Move is spewing out deep crimson flames the same color as its body (Fire Breath).
Elecmon
Level Child
Type Mammal Attribute Data Field Deep Savers Nature Spirits Metal Empire
Info: A Mammal Digimon that retained Tunomon's mammal-like elements and evolved. It's very curious and lively, and inherited its prank-loving personality from Tunomon. Also, Elecmon possesses nine tails, and during battle, it fans out its tail like the plumage of a peacock to intimidate its opponent. Its Special Move is "Sparkling Thunder".
Wormmon
Level Child
Type Larva Attribute Free/Virus/Vaccine/None Field Jungle Troopers Nature Spirits Unknown Nightmare Soldiers
Info: A Larva Digimon with a timid, cowardly personality. Just like V-mon and the others, it's a descendant of an ancient species, so it is able to perform special Armor evolutions, but since Wormmon is powerless when by itself, it can't possibly match up to larger Digimon. However, by Armor evolving with the power of the Digimentals, it is able to manifest unbelievable power. Also, it is said that in order for the fragile larva to grow into a powerful imago, Wormmon will one day evolve into an Adult overflowing with power. It can definitely be said that it is a Digimon who has hidden potential for the future. Its Special Moves are spitting out the threads of a tough, adhesive net, completely restricting the opponent's movements (Nebaneba Net), and spitting out stiff threads that are as thin as a silk thread but as pointed and sharp as a needle (Silk Thread).
Stingmon
Level Adult Type Insect Attribute Free/Virus/Data None Field Jungle Troopers Nature Spirits Nightmare Soldiers Wind Guardians
Info: An extremely unusual Insect Digimon with a humanoid form. It possesses nimble movements and a tough exoskeleton, defining traits of Insect Digimon. It excels in its abilities as an assassin, aiming for the opponent's vitals with its nimble movements and keen judgment, and specializes in attacks that silence the opponent with a single blow. It is highly intelligent and has great composure, along with a cool disposition. Its Special Move is a terrifying technique in which it skewers the opponent with the Spikes on both of its arms (Spiking Finish).
Morphomon
Level Child
Type Insect Attribute Vaccine Field Nature Spirits
Info: A Digimon with butterfly wings as its ears and hands. It has feelings of enjoyment for nature and a carefree personality. It touches those who have seen it for the first time to determine whether or not they pose a threat, and will follow them once it is satisfied with them not being a threat. It appears to be in a very good mood whenever its ear-wings move a lot. Its "Rinrin Therapy", fluttering scales shaken off of its wings, has the effect of healing the mind and body, or conversely, paralyzing the body, and is used for different purposes depending on the opponent.
Palmon
Level Child Type Plant Attribute Data Vaccine Field Jungle Troopers Nature Spirits Wind Guardians
Info: A Plant Digimon with a tropical flower blooming on its head. Although it evolved like a reptile from Tanemon, it is an unusual Type which is classified as a Plant based on its outward appearances and special qualities. During the day it opens up the flower and spreads its leaf-like arms to perform photosynthesis. It usually buries its root-like feet under the ground, and although it is absorbing nutrients, it is also able to walk. As for the flower on its head, when it is joyful or happy it will waft about a sweet fragrance, but when it is angered or senses danger, it releases a foul stench that will drive off even large Digimon. Its Special Move is entangling the opponent in ivy laced with a powerful toxin (Poison Ivy). If you suffer this attack, your body will be completely paralyzed.
Liollmon
Level Child Type Holy Beast Attribute Vaccine Field Nature Spirits
Info: A Holy Beast Digimon which has a golden coat. There seems to be very few surviving individuals, so its existence was not confirmed until recently. It is a Digimon with very intense territoriality, so it doesn't show mercy to those who enter its territory, even if they are the same species of Digimon. When it is on alert, the hair on its head becomes tinged with static electricity, and it is said that it produces a sound when threatened. Its Special Moves are cutting the opponent to pieces with its sharp claws (Lio Claw), and aiming at the opponent's vitals with its fangs (Critical Bite). Although "Critical Bite" has the power to take down an Adult Digimon with a single blow, its success rate is low.
Liamon
Level Adult Type Holy Beast Attribute Vaccine Field Nature Spirits
Info: A Holy Beast Digimon that exudes the style of a "King", even though it is only an Adult. It is said to be a Digimon that evolved from Liollmon, but there are even fewer surviving individuals than those of Liollmon, so its existence is becoming an "illusion". It tends to prefer capturing prey that is stronger than itself, and it has often been observed commencing an attack against an Ultimate Digimon without even flinching. Its Special Moves are charging and then releasing electricity generated in its mane (Thunder of King), and reliably aiming at the opponent's vitals with its fangs (Critical Strike).
Gaomon
Level Child
Type Beast Attribute Data Field Nature Spirits
Info: A Beast Digimon that is thought to be a subspecies of the Gazimon-species that grew pointed claws. With its keen movements, it specializes in "Hit and Away" attacks. The gloves on its hands appear to protect its claws until they are fully grown. Its Special Moves are exploiting its tenacious leg strength and rolling into the opponent's chest (Rolling Upper), and its "Double Backhand" that it unleashes while spinning. Also, it can move nimbly to unleash a high-speed barrage of punches (Gao Rush).
Floramon
Level Child
Type Plant Attribute Data Field Jungle Troopers Wind Guardians
Info: Although it evolved like a reptile, just like Palmon, it is categorized as an unusual Digimon of the Plant type. Its whole face has the appearance of a flower, and the petal-styled shell usually protects its head like a helmet. When intruders are not around or when it's in a good mood, the petals on its head and both of its arms open up wide. It sees Palmon as its rival, and has a very prideful personality. Its Special Move is generating allergy-inducing pollen from the flowers on both of its arms (Allergy Shower). If they suffer this technique, even larger Digimon are unable to keep hold of their presence of mind, and completely lose their fighting spirit.
Kiwimon
Level Adult
Type Ancient Bird Attribute Data Field Jungle Troopers Wind Guardians
Info: A mythical, ancient Digimon that was said to have been overhunted to extinction due to the spread of the Internet. Although it is a Bird Digimon, its wings have completely degenerated so it is unable to fly in the air. Furthermore, it possesses the makeup of a Plant-type and is able to perform photosynthesis with the leaf-like things growing on its head, providing itself with nourishment. It has no other ways of defending itself aside from the hard shell that covers its head, and it is easily attacked by intruders due to its docile personality. Its Special Move is attacking the enemy using the Chibi Kiwimon it conceals within its body (Little Pecker). Since the Chibi Kiwimon's beaks are extremely hard just like Kiwimon, it is a terrifying technique in which they explode when hit. Despite being completely charred after exploding, the Chibi Kiwimon return safely.
JUNGLEMOJYAMON
Level Adult
Type Rare Animal Attribute Data/Vaccine Field Nature Spirits
Info: A Digimon that inhabits the depths of the jungle. It views its territory as a sacred land, and will not forgive anyone who intrudes upon its territory. Its Special Move is utilising the power of the wilderness to dish out a punch with all its might (Jungle Punch).
Piccolomon
Level Perfect
Type Fairy Attribute Data/Vaccine Field Jungle Troopers Nature Spirits Wind Guardians
Info: A Fairy Digimon that is fluent in magic. It can recite the advanced programming language of another dimension, allowing it to generate miracles with the appearance of magic. This miraculous Digimon is able to pop up in every place, time, and space, and although its body is small, it can seal away the enemy's abilities with its own special ability, and then pulverize the opponent with a mighty blow. With its mischief-loving personality, it enjoys making computers run wild with its cherished spear, "Fairy Tale", that it always holds in its hands (although it has no ill intent). Its Special Move is a super-powerful bomb packed with computer viruses (Bit Bomb). Despite its appearance, it uses terrifying attacks.
Flymon
Level Adult
Type Insect Attribute Virus Field Unknown Wind Guardians Jungle troopers
Info: An Insect Digimon that possesses gigantic, baleful wings. With its gigantic wings it is able to fly about at extremely high speed, and it generates a great Howling Noise called buzzing while in flight, completely numbing the sense of hearing of those who hear it. Its body is protected by a hard shell, and it pinches the opponent between its large talons and brings death with the super-powerful stinger on its tail. Although the evolutionary processes of Insect Digimon are still unclear, it is thought that it evolved from a Kunemon-species, guessing by the appearance of its face. Its Special Move is firing the stinger on its tail (Deadly Stinger), and it is said that Digimon who are stung with this stinger have their whole body paralyzed, then their body turns violet and they die. Incidentally, this isn't a problem for it because it is said the stinger grows back indefinitely.
Terriermon
Level Child Type Beast Attribute Data/Vaccine
Field Metal Empire Nature Spirits Virus Busters Wind Guardians
Info: With one horn growing from its head, it is a Digimon shrouded in mystery. It can be classified as a Beast Digimon from its body structure, but it's still not understood what kind of evolved form it will take on. Also, it is rumored that it is sometimes born with a twin. It's a very cute type of Digimon, and from its calm behavior it doesn't seem like a "Combat Species" Digimon, but in the case of battle, it shows that it is more powerful than it appears. Its Signature Move is generating a tiny tornado by spinning its ears like a propeller (Petit Twister). Its Special Move is spewing out a shot of superheated air (Blazing Fire). Also, it possesses a powerful might in the Unison Technique Double Typhoon that it performs with Lopmon, its twin.
Lopmon
Level Child Type Beast Attribute Data Field Nature Spirits
Info: An extremely precious twin Digimon Child. Terriermon is the one with one horn growing from its head, while Lopmon is the one with three horns growing from its head. The way it grows is shrouded in mystery, and though it can be classified as a Beast-species Digimon from its body structure, aside from that it is still not understood. Terriermon has a calm personality, but is very robust. In contrast, Lopmon has the personality of a lonely crybaby. Neither of them seem like "Combat Species" Digimon, but when battling, they show that they are more powerful than they appear. Its Signature Moves are generating a tiny tornado by spinning its ears like a propeller (Petit Twister), and its Unison Technique "Double Typhoon". Its Special Move is spitting out shots of supercooled air (Blazing Ice).
Criticisms are much appreciated!

Joker Review
I was not excited to see Joker based on the trailers that seemed determined to excuse and justify Joker’s (Joaquin Phoenix) madness and motives with a sympathetic light. While it is well-shot and well-acted—and if you enjoyed it, I’m glad you got something positive out of the experience—I thought the movie confirmed my impression of the trailers and I wasn’t a fan.
Full Spoilers…
Arthur Fleck is a sad, lonely man with vague mental illnesses who can’t catch a break in life or love. His life does suck and he does get dealt several bad and unfair hands, but nothing this movie did convinced me to feel sorry for him because I know the monster he’s going to become. It’s the same way I don’t care about real-world rapists’ “bright futures” being put in jeopardy by being held accountable for their crimes and have no sympathy for mass shooters’ sad histories of being turned down for dates. In the end, society is a problem, but how Arthur reacts to it is all on him and what he becomes is reprehensible, so I found it impossible to connect to him even before the villainy. Maybe if he were an original character—or even a Batman villain who does have a spark of good intentions and true tragedy to them, like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, or Two-Face—I would’ve cared about him, but the Joker has far too much baggage to be painted as a tragic figure, and drawing this character so close to being an anti-hero who’s right to act like he does is gross. Even if the adoration he gets from the rioting crowds after the car accident is his imagination (much like he imagined Sophie (Zazie Beetz) thought stalking her was charming at the beginning of their “relationship”), he still felt that hero-worship throughout the movie from the protesters adopting his clown persona so I don’t think it makes a big difference if that one post-accident scene was real or not.
I didn’t like the choice to make most of his laughter part of his illness either, as that took a huge part of the character’s outlook/personality and sense of “humor” away by making it something uncontrollable. It’s also an antiquated and harmful view of mental illness in a time when we’re fully aware that mentally ill people are far more likely to be the victims of violence than the perpetrators. Continuing to draw mentally ill people as violent criminals is something that needs to be addressed and updated in the larger Batman canon too. Like so many other choices here, explaining his laughter takes away the scariness the character previously had. I have no problem knowing who Joker used to be, but knowing why he does what he does (even just trying to convince us that he’s an “agent of chaos”) is too much information in my opinion. My preferred Joker is one who’s unpredictable and incomprehensible, where trying to puzzle out his motives either leaves you dead or drives you insane (like it did Harley Quinn). I also want more variety in his crimes, not just a series of revenge killings for personal slights and abuses. Give me everything from trying to patent Joker Fish to deadly laughing gas attacks to just wanting to pie Batman in the face for Christmas. During his big debut on TV in this film, I was wishing we could see a classic caper instead (even though yes, hijacking a TV show is something Joker would do). Confining Joker’s victims to people who personally attacked him also takes away from the threat he poses: if you treated him well, you’re totally fine here.
While escalation to more indiscriminate victims is possible, as one of my sisters pointed out, the movie works really hard to justify everything he does with grounded motives in what feels like an attempt to say “see, anyone really could be pushed to this breaking point!” It’s not enough that Arthur’s co-workers don’t like him, one of them (Glenn Fleshler) has to essentially trick him into getting fired. Arthur’s obsessive love of TV personality Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro) turning dark can’t just be a result of Arthur being a stalker who dreams of being a comedian even though he’s not funny, Murray also has to personally insult Arthur in front of the city/nation. It’s not bad enough that Arthur’s mom (Frances Conroy) abused and lied to him his whole life, but his secret “father” Thomas Wayne (Brett Cullen) also has to be a horrible rich person. I totally get that Thomas would be furious about Arthur touching Bruce (Dante Pereira-Olson) and I’d be enraged too, but Thomas’ anti-poor sentiments set him against Arthur’s social situation and in the end it felt like we weren’t supposed to see his and Martha’s (Carrie Louise Putrello) deaths as a tragedy, but as a reaction to the way they treated the lower classes (since the riot is so closely tied to the way Arthur reacts). On a side note, Martha really just isn’t ever going to speak or contribute to a story at all beyond being a victim, is she? Anyway, my reading of Joker’s “you wouldn’t get the joke” line at the end of the movie was that the Arkham interview scene occurs after Batman had appeared and everyone’s favorite “badass” hero grew up to protect the system (the “care to explain the joke?” question is intercut with scenes of the Wayne murders). This Bruce would totally embody the “Batman’s a wealthy guy who beats up poor people” take that’s been going around for the past few years (just imagine how this Thomas was raising Bruce, instead of the good man that Thomas usually is), particularly since it was apparently someone protesting for fair wages and equality that murdered his parents. The clothing styles do look the same in that interview scene as in the rest of the film, rather than being 90s styles or later, but arresting some fashions and technology even as time moves on is hardly a new design choice for a Batman movie/animated series. Even if that’s not the joke that Arthur means in that final scene, I fully believe that’s the Batman that would come out of these events, and who wants that?
If the joke that Arthur references is that the world put all this meaning on him that he didn’t intend, it’s not a very good joke because he has a whole speech explaining that on TV. I believe Joker when he says he’s not political—he’ll take revenge on anyone, rich and poor alike—but having the protesters adopt his ideology and imagery is a really weird choice given who he is in the comics. Even though he doesn’t have anything to do with the protests themselves (though he does egg on the riots during his speech, as what he says about his own mistreatment by society is also what they’re feeling about theirs), the filmmakers saddling “his” movement with the language of the real-life left (like "resist") is extremely questionable: why are the filmmakers trying to make this monster a heroic inspiration (even if misunderstood) for what would be the social justice side? In The Killing Joke, Joker argues that one bad day will drive anyone insane, which seems to be what this movie wants to say too (with “insanity” framed as a “reasonable” reaction to a broken system). However, the end of The Killing Joke reaffirms that the world isn’t like Joker and one bad day won’t push most people to villainy, since he fails to break Gordon, Barbara, and (once it became an in-continuity tale) Batman. Joker has no one to make that argument, and instead has Joker give a speech on TV about how it’s totally justifiable to go on a murder spree in reaction to being mistreated because this is what you get.” No thanks.
If the “joke” is that none of this happened at all, well then…why are we here watching his self-indulgent delusions of persecution and oppression?
If they wanted to make a movie about a sympathetic man turned bad by a cold system that hurts people who do nothing but get sick, they should’ve made a Mr. Freeze movie. A film about someone who goes to increasingly extreme lengths to change the world for the better while being labeled as crazy by society? Get a Poison Ivy film into production. Want to explore a villain with good intentions and a society divided between the rich and poor, with how you’re treated by people, the law, and the world left up to chance on how you were born? Then this should’ve been a Two-Face movie. There’s merit to saying that there are problems with our social system and that it fails people who have no other support network, for sure. And lots of bad guys have been successfully drawn with some core good idea that they take off the rails into full-blown villainy as they commit increasingly evil acts. The Joker is not one of those villains. He doesn’t have a logical point and shouldn’t be painted as right in any way.
Again, on a technical and performance level Joker is a well-made movie and I’m glad if you found something worthwhile here, but I vehemently disagree with its entire premise of making the Joker understandable and especially with trying to paint him as something of an anti-hero with a twisted point who’s justified in acting the way he does. I was bored and couldn’t get past the knowledge of what Joker becomes. This is just not for me. Oh well; on to the next movie!

Early today we shared some photos and video of DC Collectibles booth on the show floor of San Diego Comic-Con.  Now DC Collectibles has decided to release a press release along with official photos of their upcoming product releases.
DC COLLECTIBLES GOES FULL THROTTLE AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON WITH BIG 2018 REVEALS
Gotham City Garage Kicks It Into High Gear with New Batgirl and Supergirl Statues Speeding Into Stores
DC Essentials 6.75” Action Figures Designed by Acclaimed Artist Jason Fabok Set to Debut
DC Artists Alley Reveals New, Cutting-Edge Interpretations of Wonder Woman, Batman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn
San Diego, CA – Thursday, July 20, 2017 – DC Collectibles, the award-winning line of collectibles –directly from the source, DC Entertainment–kicked off San Diego Comic-Con: International with several major announcements, including the expansion of its grittiest line of statues, Gotham City Garage. Racing onto shelves in 2018, the biker statues will be joined by an all-new 6.75’’ DC Essentials action figure line starring DC’s most popular Super Heroes and Super-Villains designed by fan-favorite comic book artist Jason Fabok. DC Collectibles also revealed new character additions to the highly anticipated DC Artists Alley designer vinyl series and announced plans to expand its best-selling action figure and statue lines including Batman: The Animated Series, DC Bombshells, and more.
DC Collectibles is doubling down on Gotham City Garage’s growing popularity and will reimagine two new Super Heroes–Batgirl and Supergirl–as bold, fierce, biker statues. The move coincides with DC’s announcement earlier this week that it will publish an all-new Digital First comic book in August inspired by the statue line.
“The idea behind Gotham City Garage is to explore the tough and gritty alter-egos of DC’s most iconic characters such as Wonder Woman and Catwoman, and now Batgirl and Supergirl,” said Jim Fletcher, executive creative director, DC Collectibles. “Just like with DC Bombshells, it’s exciting to see these character designs strike a chord with fans and transcend from statues into comic books and beyond, and we’re eager to find out just how far Gotham City Garage can ride.”
Produced at the 9” scale, Batgirl and Supergirl will join the already released, best-selling Gotham City Garage statues of Catwoman, Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman, and will cruise into stores in 2018.
DC Collectibles will also launch a new 6.75” DC Essentials action figure line that will feature classic DC Universe Rebirth character designs and the greatest range of motion ever produced by the company.
“DC Essentials will be an evergreen action figure line and will feature classic representations of DC Universe characters including Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman, among others,” said Fletcher. “These designs will embody the core of each character and will attract both our most dedicated fans and those just starting out with their collections. We’re thrilled to deliver these figures at the larger 6.75” scale and can’t wait for fans to see the new moveability that allows for more intricate poses. We’re excited to have Jason Fabok on board as the series’ designer–his stunning art style is a perfect match for DC Essentials. ”
The first wave of DC Essentials figures to release in 2018 will include Batman, the Flash, Superman and Aquaman. Wonder Woman, Deathstroke, Green Lantern and Nightwing will debut in 2019.
Also revealed at SDCC were new characters slated to join DC Artists Alley, a series of designer vinyls directly inspired by the popular “Artist Alley” convention experience. Putting artists front and center, DC Artists Alley celebrates each designer’s offbeat art style and offers unique interpretations of DC’s most iconic characters. The new figures revealed today include Wonder Woman by Chris Uminga, Batman by HaiNaNu “Nooligan” Saulque, and Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn by Sho Murase.
Fan-favorite Batman: The Animated Series (BTAS) action-figure line will debut two new villainous offerings in 2018 including a Harley Quinn Expressions Pack and a Jokermobile based on its infamous appearance in the 1990s TV show. Scaled to fit 6” BTAS action figures, the Jokermobile will have working wheels and several light-up features–a perfect mode of transportation for the clown prince of crime.
The acclaimed DC Bombshells universe will also expand in 2018 with new Black Canary and Zatanna characters joining artist Ant Lucia’s popular Designer Series Bombshells action-figure line. Green Lantern Jessica Cruz is the next DC heroine to receive the Bombshells statue treatment and will be reimagined in the classic 1940s art style.
Also on tap for 2018 are additions to best-selling Batman: Black and White and Harley Quinn: Red White and Black statue lines, and an all-new Battle Statue that brings to life the greatest race between DC’s fastest Super Heroes–the Flash and Superman.

It is a golden opportunity to unveil new products that we have been working on for the past several months, like our lines of vinyl figures, trading cards, board games, and digital collectibles. We are truly grateful to our fans and look forward to offering some surprises and exclusives that we know they will enjoy.”

In addition, there will be two rare variant Chase figures. Designed by Pedro Astudillo and sculpted by Sam Greenwell, each figure comes in Cryptozoic’s signature, collectible blind-reveal tin.
Cryptozoic will be selling several San Diego Comic-Con exclusive products:
Orphan Black Trading Cards Season 2 and Season 3 Premium Packs
These sets based on the hit TV series Orphan Black, which airs on BBC America and Space, feature a heavy dose of signatures from actors on the series, with each four-card Premium Pack including three Autograph Cards and one Cryptomium Chase Card. Star Tatiana Maslany, who won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress for the series, has signed numerous cards, which depict seven of the characters she played in Season 2 and six of her characters in Season 3. Every case contains 12 Premium Packs and is guaranteed to contain three Autograph Cards signed by Maslany. As these are special limited sets, there will only be 720 packs/60 cases available total for each set.
“Golden Goddess” DC Bombshells Vinyl Figures
Inspired by Wonder Woman’s roots in Greek mythology, these variants of the Series 1 DC Bombshells vinyl figures draw from classical Greek sculpture with their gold-and-white design for all three characters: Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn. Only 250 of each figure has been produced for this limited run, with each packaged in a display-worthy window box that is individually numbered. The figures were designed by Pedro Astudillo and sculpted by Anders Ehrenborg.
Metallic Red 25th Anniversary DC Lil Bombshells Harley Quinn Vinyl Figure
To commemorate the 25-year history of the popular femme fatale, this variant of the Series 1 DC Lil Bombshells Harley Quinn vinyl figure stylishly sports only the iconic red color associated with the character. Each figure is stamped with a “Harley Quinn 25” logo on the base and comes individually hand-numbered from 1 to 500, making it the lowest-run DC Lil Bombshells figure Cryptozoic has produced to date. The figure was designed by Pedro Astudillo and sculpted by Sam Greenwell.
DC’s The Joker Calling Card Statue – “Bloody Noir Edition”
This variant of the regular DC’s The Joker Calling Card Statue, the first in Cryptozoic’s series of hand statues, is a hand-painted, 7-inch tall polyresin statue that depicts the villain’s iconic gloved hand splattered with blood from one of his many victims. In addition to the regular four interchangeable Joker cards, this variant comes with an exclusive Cryptozoic Promo Card. Each statue comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and is individually hand-numbered from 1 to 200, making it one of the most limited statues Cryptozoic has ever produced. It was sculpted by Mana Studios.
Cryptozoic will preview two upcoming trading card sets that will be available for sale later in 2017:
Outlander Trading Cards Season 2
Based on the second season of Starz’s hit time-travel drama Outlander, it includes a 72-card Base Set, four Chase Sets, and randomly inserted Autograph Cards and Wardrobe Cards, which contain pieces of fabric used to make the lavish costumes in the show. Signers for the set include stars Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Richard Rankin (Roger Wakefield), Andrew Gower (Charles Stuart), Stanley Weber (Comte St. Germain), and Claire Sermonne (Louise de Rohan). Cryptozoic will be giving away Promo Cards for the set throughout the show and offering a special two-card Outlander Trading Cards Season 2 Preview Set for $10, with each pack having a rare Promo Card inserted. Fans who come to the booth can see displays of selected Autograph Cards, and cards from the “Vive Les Frasers” Chase Set.
DC Comics Bombshells Trading Cards
The set is based on DC’s popular line of statues and comic books that is inspired by 1940s pinup art and reimagines DC’s history by placing its powerful female characters at the center of World War II. The 63-card Base Set and Chase Sets feature art from the covers of the DC Comics Bombshells comic book series—including drawings by Ant Lucia—and from DC Comics Bombshells variant covers of other comic books, as well as the illustrations used to create Cryptozoic’s DC Bombshells and Lil Bombshells figures. Inserts include hand-drawn Sketch Cards from some of today’s hottest artists and rare variants, such as Foil Boards and Printing Plates. Each hobby box contains a rare “Golden Goddess” variant of a DC Lil Bombshells vinyl figure. Fans who come to Cryptozoic’s booth can see displays of selected Sketch Cards and a “Golden Goddess” variant of a DC Lil Bombshells figure. DC Comics Bombshells Trading Cards
Finally, Cryptozoic will demo and sell some of its newest games, including:

Players must design the best park possible by placing tiles while simultaneously avoiding and fighting Diseases, such as Tuberculosis and Hepatitis A. Certain actions shift around Ruben’s internal organs during gameplay, causing unexpected effects and forcing players to act out embarrassing bodily functions. There will be a demo at Cryptozoic’s booth on Saturday, July 22 at 3:15 p.m.
Attack on Titan: The Last Stand
Based on the popular anime series, this board game puts one player in the role of a fearsome Titan, threatening the last remaining human city. The other players are brave Heroes trying to protect the populace and preserve the supply depot in the final bastion of humanity! Designed by the award-winning Antoine Bauza and Ludovic Maublanc, the game requires strategic utilization of dice and features unique vertical gameplay, as the Heroes move up and down both the Tower and the 15-inch tall Titan Standee.
