Rewatching Voltron
Season 1
Season 2
— ~~~ —- _ — ~ }=>
Wanted to say this at the top: All of this is for fun. I haven’t seen voltron in a hot minute so I’d thought I’d go through and see if it was just as bad as we remembered. Below is my highlights and grevences, along with a few Head Canons! So stay if you want. If you don’t, I don’t care! This is just a me thing ^-^
Tumblr media
Transition between season 1 and 2
Seamless!
So satisfying on rewatch but must’ve been a bitch on release (OGs I will never know your pain lol)
Honestly wouldn't do anything to change the start of the second season.
The evolution of the paladins language
Idk if I said it already- but I love how the paladins are using Altean vocabulary. V good detail. Hope this stays consistent
Ships: Yes we’re doing this again but Klance won’t be the biggest issue
There’s a lot of Aullura and Shiro moments in the beginning that would’ve been a great foundation for something more if it wasn’t for the fact that (spoilers) Shiro is gay. The vibes they have are very knight or mercenary x princess and I’m a sucker for that shit.
Allureith is born in this season. And all I can read from this is good intentions but no thought. Both in execution and in the actual relationship. At least right now, I may change my mind the further I go.
Allurance. To me. Is the most infuriating thing this show has to offer. Every time I see Lance take a shot on Allura, and I see her discomfort I always say something along the lines of “Can you shut the fuck up-!” Or “Can you actually stOP!” While pausing for a good moment to regain myself. Just- god. Why? She is nO T into you dude. If anything this would be wonderful character development for both characters. I can see a full ep dedicated to this issue of Lance not knowing when someone isn't interested unless they actually say it to their face while Allura is in this denial that one day lance would get the hint. And from this experience, lance either fucks off for the next few episodes or starts from scratch with Allura with the understanding that friendship should always come first. If she is comfortable with that ofc.
Klance as a whole is screaming enemies far more than rivals right now. If klance is gonna work regardless of being a bromance or romance, there should be an understanding shining through. However, with both parties actually fighting in the middle of battles, and little to no willingness to talk, Iis becoming harder and harder to see why this was the biggest ship the fandom had to offer (then again 2016 was a fandom fever dream to begin with soooo)
Platonic relationships
Give me more Coran. He needs friends. I’m volunteering literally any of the palidins. And ofc we need more of the daughter Allura dynamic since we DONT HAVE ANYY. This man is such a theater kid and we are blessed with his existence.
Keith needs more time with Hunk and Pidge! For the love of god I CANNOT see them as more then trauma bonding buddies. I already have a list of things the B team (thats what I call Hunk and Pidge together because they are the Best Team) can bond over with Keith
Tech- (for both) this is built on the fact that Keith litterally had that cork board set up in the first eps to find Shiro. (Sorry Sheith shippers. I read these two as brothers only.) I like to think that Pidge and Hunk would ask Keith for help with techy stuff almost in the same vein as Lance. The only difference being Keith knows slightly more than Lance dose.
Sports- This one is mainly for Hunk but this can bleed into Lance too. Even though he's a big nerd I like to think his family is big on Foot and Fútball. I think Keith is the same but he loves baseball far more (same with Lance). Almost like I'm projecting my I Dont Dance Au onto these two hahahahaha-
Family/ lack there of - this can go for everyone. The best way to start this convo would be at dinner in the castle. Everyone is having a very quiet time until Hunk asks "Guys, what were your family's like?" This would result in a beat of quiet as for the first time in a bit, everyone really thinks about earth. Not for a passing moment or anything. Like- seriously. Allura or Coran would encurage this, saying that they dont really now alot about the palidin's home planet. From there it would a hodge podge of stories and background. I have a few HCs bout this including Shiro not really having a family and going into the airforce for financial and emotional support only to end up on the Curburos mission to.. escape life *cough cough* Adam *cough*, Pidge would talk about their mom's cooking and how their brother helped them with homework to the point where it got annoying. Hunk would say his mom's cooking is far superrior and then talk about his dad and siblings. I want to make his dad a retired wrestler, now mechanic. Lance would take offense to Hunk's claim this his mom could cout cook his mom. But he would talk alot about how his siblings were always there for him after their dad left (YES I WANT DADDY ISSUES LEAVE ME ALONE) Allura would remark throughout these stories with questions of her own. We'd eventually end with Keith, who almost leave the table at the pressure to remark on his own upbringing. This. This would be interesting.
But ima leave it there lol
The tracking plot point and rant about season 2 ep 6
Before this ep we got sprinkles of shiro/black lion tracking- wich is great. Love that shit. I have a problem with how we figure that out tho
“Zarkon must’ve imprinted one me durring our last fight.”- Keith. My man. Explain to me wtf you mean.
Fr tho. Just because you’re half Galra dosent mean that’s how it works bro. Ik we’re not fully sure at this point but- cmon.
“It’s me.” Allura. Hunny. H o w? Why even?
Why would two people who think they’re being tracked- GO TOGETHER??? Why would you even leave in the first place?! Shirio is right. Splitting up makes y’all vulnerable! Voltron can’t be formed without Keith! Why would y’all do that?? If anything why not leave in separate pods and just so happen to crash onto the same planet the paladins are on! I’m sorry I just hate the beginning of “The Arc of Taujeer” while Keith and Allura are away there is an actual humanitarian crisis. I know it’s important but damn to the tracking idea but G O D
Allura and Keith should be shunned and punished for the stunt they pulled in this ep fr. Info learned be damned
Mall episode
God bless the mall episode. An icon. Truly. All hail. All hail!!
The Blade of Malora/ Keith’s heritage + the racism
Let’s get the great out of the way: The Blade themselves- Their introduction is great. That goes without saying.
Keiths trials- M W A H the character assessment I could make is TOO LONG ON G O D
but the actual workings of the BoM is so calculated and cold. It’s honestly so refreshing in a way I don’t know how to explain
I just love untrusting rebels because that’s the reality of rebellion. You don’t know who is for the cause and who is a gov plant
I personally want Keith’s Galra heritage more known physically. Both on him and in his upbringing. I want splotches of purple across his body that no doctor can explain (all of wich can be hidden with a change of clothes) and barely noticeable physical abnormalities (ie: longer and sharper nails, maybe purple tinted hai “I dye it…”, strange “scars” that are actually birth marks that stand out. But he passes as human. Through these excuses.
I also want flashbacks to his dad trying to pass on everything he knows about his mother’s culture. (The knife and stories)
Now- I wanna talk about the bad. Y’all know it, y’all seen it- the racism
Now- Allura, sure. She has a reason to hate the Gullra. They killed her people. That is valid and I think that the truama combined with the truth that she’s working with “the enemy” is a great conflict and is honestly wonderful character growth.
HUNK ON THE OTHER HAND- w t f. This is so out of character. Hunk is literally the heart of the group and almost as smart as Pidge. I think he would know better than anyone else that litterally nothing has changed about Keith. Hell- maybe Shiro would know that struggle of people seeing him differently better than anyone else because IDK HES GAY (unless I change that. Personally I saw Shiro straight but… audience interaction? Lol I’ll put a poll on the final season if I remember) TLDR- As Keith said: “I didn’t just turn Gullra!”
Finale (season 2, episode 12 + 13)
Aullara getting over her biases and apologizing to Keith is perfect
Shirio and Keith’s chemistry is amazing as well both in and out of combat
The spy. An icon.
The amount of tension around this plan not failing is delicious. Yummy yummy- give me more!
Emperor whomever the fuck’s obsession w/ voltron carrying over to battle
Hagar being the voice of reason aGAIN. Queen shit fr.
When I first watched this I thought the paladins died ngl. Then when I rewatched I thought Allura died. Voltron out here with the drama fr
Zarkon meka action figures. When?
ALLURA DOING SHIT- F I N A L Y (Tangent will be later I promise)
HELL YEA WINGS!!! The fursona is complete
“Shit she got tats too!” Only to be met with Deisex Machina because Allura is the main character apparently
Hands to the side of voltrons face. That scene. Fucking slapped.
EVERYONE RUNNING TO DAD ONLY TO SEE HES GONE TO GET MILK- W H Y????
oh also lotor revel lol
Smaller things
The spies for the rebelion
I’m such a fake fan I don’t remember their names, but both of them left a big impact on me with their sacrifices
The guy who died in the cluster field, was a real one. Making the big bad of the episode implode on itself with him at the center- dude
Also, the guy closer to the finale who was almost caught multiple times. What a fucking trooper.
Underwent torture and still didn’t reveal the plans
Both of these dudes need art made for them! Like- I swear to God they did so much for these fuckers and we don’t hear about them, their back stories, or their families ever. When I rewrite this, I want to include pieces of what these people are sacrificing, and who they are fighting for either before, during or after they sacrifice themselves for the revolution.
TLDR; 🫡 Real ones
Zarkon’s black lion obsession bleeding into his character
I like how hyper-focused the big bad is about controlling the black lion.
He’s kind of right in his thinking that by controlling the lion, he’s won. He’s right. But from this thought process he’s reckless and too assured in himself.
It’s a self fulfilling prophecy given layers with the later seasons
Slav
I-
Icon?
Let lance be the sharp shooter
I want more sniper man!!
I want more chuckles instead of groans
Tumblr media
Overall- The show is still good!
This was a fun watch! Was there things I’d change? Ofc! But this season holds up just as, if not better than, the last! From what I remember everyone agrees that seasons 1-3 or 4 is the good shit and then everything goes downhill. Hopefully I’m proven wrong but I highly doubt that.
Scroll bat to the top if y’all wanna see my thoughts on Voltron season 1, thank you for reading my rambles, and, most importantly, FOLD YOUR FUCKING LAUNDRY! You’ve put it off all day-! DO IT!

Jackets
Self indulgent klance fluff, post season six.
Kind of inspired by @royalbee‘s post about Keith’s jacket.
~~
Allura sent Lance to Black to get Keith for their meager breakfast, some space goo cubes and some squishy substance that Lance didn't want to know the contents of. Hunk was desperately trying to improve the items, but no one really had high hopes.
He passed Shiro and Pidge on the way over, talking quietly to one another. They had called Matt that morning, and Shiro seemed like he was doing better from having talked to him. They waved at Lance as he passed, and he waved back.
The land they were on had an Earth-like atmosphere, and Pidge had deemed it last night safe to breathe, so Lance had finally removed his paladin armor in favor of his usual wardrobe. The armor got sweaty after too long, and if he wasn't going to be able to shower until they reached Olkarion, he wasn't taking any more chances than necessary.
"Open up, girl," Lance mumbled sleepily to Black, who knelt and opened her jaws without hesitating, letting him climb inside.
He yawned as he ducked into the cockpit, rubbing a fist into his eye. "Dude, Hunk is making breakfast. Or at least...something like it. You coming?"
Keith was standing over his chair, dressed in his old shirt, pants, and boots, his jacket clutched in his hands. His back had tightened when Lance had spoken, and he took a moment to respond. "Yeah," he rasped, voice low. "Be out in a minute."
Lance frowned at the tone and stepped closer, fingers twitching at his sides. He didn't know what to do with his hands. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Lance."
The way his words crackled betrayed the message, and Lance hesitated, reached a hand out, pulled it back again. "I...no you're not. What's wrong?"
Keith's shoulders slumped and his head lowered. His hair was longer than it had been before, and Lance suddenly realized that the two years Keith had talked about were really two years for him. It had felt impossible, but now he was realizing just how true the statement was. He found his mouth opening before he could stop himself. "Didn't want to hang with us? Two years enough time to realize how annoying we are, eh?"
He said it in a joking manner, but Keith turned instantly, eyes glistening. Lance froze, blood running cold. He had only seen Keith cry one time, about Shiro, and so to see it now, in such a mundane situation, was almost horrifying.
"It's stupid," Keith said after a long moment of silence.
Lance moved forward without thinking, reaching a hand out and settling it on Keith's shoulder, squeezing. They were the same height now. "If it's making you cry, it's not stupid," he murmured.
Keith's chin trembled and he shook his head, looking back down at the jacket in his hands, which Lance had honestly forgotten he was carrying. "It doesn't fit," he whispered.
"It doesn't...your jacket?"
His head tilted down once and Lance frowned, his eyebrows furrowing. "Well...that sucks, dude. But I mean...you did grow a bit," he tried to joke.
He watched the comment smack Keith between the eyes, and the fingers on the jacket started shaking. "I know," he whimpered.
Lance was at a loss. His heart lurched for his hurting teammate, and he moved his hands to cover Keith's, squeezing his fingers tenderly. "It's okay though, right? I mean...we could always fabricate..."
But the castle was gone, so they couldn't.
"It was just...one of my last connections to my dad," Keith managed after an awkward moment. Lance winced, but Keith continued. "He gave it to me before he died, and I...I can't..."
His shoulders shook and Lance pulled him in for a hug without thinking, wrapping his arms tightly around his back. It was a testament to how upset Keith was that he buried his nose into Lance's neck and hugged back, the jacket still clutched in his fingers.
"I'm sorry, man," Lance whispered. "I didn't know."
"I know."
They hugged until it became awkward, and still longer after that, until Lance finally pulled back and studied Keith's face. He was staring at the jacket, and with a sigh, he draped it over the back of his seat. "I just feel so wrong without it on," he said after a moment.
A lightbulb clicked in Lance's head and he started shrugging out of his jacket, the bulky bomber's jacket sliding with ease down his arms and over his fingers. He slung it around his body and held it out to Keith, body about five pounds lighter without it on. "Here."
Keith just stared at him for a minute, eyes wide, and Lance could swear there was a small blush on his cheeks. "I...what?"
Lance pushed it at him, his own face starting to feel warm. "Take it," he said, shoulders softening from their ridged position. "I know it's not...you know, I know it doesn't have any great significance to you like the other one. B-But it's something, right?"
Keith took the fabric carefully, rough fingers brushing Lance's and then smoothing over the jacket, eyeing it for a moment. A smile hinged on the edge of his lips. Without a word, he swung it around his shoulders and slipped his arms through the sleeves, breathing out when they fit his frame perfectly.
Lance felt a sense of pride well up in him; the jacket had always been too big on him, but Keith's new bulk had given him the idea that it would fit. "It uh-" his voice cracked involuntarily and he cleared his throat, face on fire. "It fits good."
Keith looked up from where he had been tracing a fond finger up the lining, eyes shining with something less sad than before. "It does," he breathed. And then, after a beat: "And it has significance, Lance."
He turned to exit Black and Lance nearly tripped following him out.

Sigh...
Look, don’t get me wrong at all, I am so excited for actual LGBT representation in Voltron and I’m so glad that they chose a beloved character like Shiro to be that representation--I am absolutely not ungrateful and you will never catch me whining that it wasn’t any of the other characters such as Lance. This is a great thing! Absolutely!
But I’m still a literary critic at heart. And I still can’t turn off the part of my brain that goes “Who is writing this stuff???”
Because like, getting representation is great, but well-plotted representation would have been... you know... even better?
I’m not going to comment at all about the building of Shiro and Adam’s relationship; I haven’t seen the whole SDCC episode and I don’t know what other flashbacks they have planned for season 7/8. Maybe it will unfold on-screen in such a charming, convincing, and well-written way that we will all be writing home to tell our parents how beautiful their relationship was. I’m not especially hopeful, but I can withhold judgment.
What bugs me, what really irritates me as a writer, is the lack of foreshadowing. The second thing that went through my head after getting hit with all the spoilers was “Did this show really need another new character?” In a show that can’t even handle the number of characters it currently has, the idea that there will be time to sufficiently flesh out YET ANOTHER background character enough to make me deeply care about them is just... not heartening. We have so many characters already who aren’t getting the screen time and attention they deserve, and now I’m supposed to find room in my heart and attention span for another? Yet another character who will exist in the spotlight for the one or two episodes he’s necessary for and then will be relegated to the background forever--if we ever even see him again outside of flashbacks?
There just isn’t time in this series for new people so close to the end. Hell, there wasn’t time for new people after about the end of season two! When I think of all the characters who were introduced and then criminally underused by the writers, the exhaustion I feel at the thought of having to weigh whether or not I should tentatively extend my investment into yet another character is crippling.
I’m just worn down, man. I don’t want another character. I don’t want another person paraded on screen to do his touching flashback scenes and then shuttled off to the corner to make room for big explosions and pretty space set pieces.
It didn’t have to be like this, and that’s what bugs me. If there had been any amount of reasonable foreshadowing for this character, the audience would have been clued in in advance, and we could have braced ourselves for another person coming in now, in the final arc. We could have been building anticipation to meet this character all the way up to this moment, so that by the time he arrived, we'd have been chomping at the bit to finally see him. The groundwork for an emotional connection between this character and the audience could have been laid out so far in advance that his finally appearing would have been like a bomb going off in the crowd...
And it wouldn’t have even been hard? Tiny throwaway moments could have done this--have Shiro mention Adam in any of his Champion/captured by the Galra flashbacks. Have Shiro mention someone back home when they were all visualizing the things they missed from Earth in season one. Have Kuron reminisce about Adam as he was flashing back while escaping from the clone facility. Have Kuron ask Sam to take a message to Adam on his way back to Earth. Have Kuron name his Monsters and Mana character Adam instead because of how much his ex still means to him or something.
Like... anything? Even a single mention of the name before now?
I’m supposed to believe that Shiro was almost married to this guy, had a tragic break-up right before leaving on a mission that his boyfriend explicitly warned him against going on because it might claim his life, and apparently still thinks of this guy fondly... BUT only when it’s plot convenient to do so???
Writers. PLEASE. Throw your audience a bone! We WANT to be emotionally invested in your characters. Why won’t you give us the means to do that?
I know some people might say “Dreamworks wasn’t settled on giving representation until late in the game”--but that doesn’t mean that Adam couldn’t have at least EXISTED before now. They could have passed him off as just Shiro’s best friend, his flight partner whom he was ride or die with thanks to being Garrison partners with so long... No one would have batted an eyelash at the idea that Shiro had--god forbid--A GOOD FRIEND back home.
This character could have been foreshadowed to build expectation and make the audience feel connected to him before his appearance, which would have more smoothly integrated him into the story and made for a significantly higher emotional impact upon revealing his relationship to Shiro. But like so many other things in this show, that degree of planning just wasn’t present.
Exhausting.
And of course, this just leaves aside the whole other point that introducing a brand new character to be Shiro’s boyfriend is actually MORE complicated than at least one alternative they could have chosen. Because I mean, hello? MATT IS RIGHT THERE. BEING CRIMINALLY UNDERUSED.
It would have been significantly easier, plot-wise, to give Adam’s role to Matt, who has been part of the plot since episode 1, was at least briefly implied to have good rapport with Shiro in season 1, whom Shiro is shown on-screen risking his life for, and who came crashing back in in season 4 to ascend to a fan favorite by virtue of a) being a great big bro in flashbacks, b) being hilarious and c) having taken a level in badass, creating a--at least by Voltron standards--fairly well-rounded and very interesting character that the fans were clamoring to see more of.
And then... the writers just dropped the ball on him completely, like they had no idea why he was even in the show in the first place. Is he even there with Team Voltron when they’re all shown going back to Earth? WHERE IS MATT?
Why did they bring him back into the plot, make him cool and funny, tease us with the idea of him being an awesome support for the Green Lion, and then let that all completely fizzle out?
If they really had nothing else exciting for him to do in the plot, they could have at least kept him relevant to the story by making him Shiro’s romance arc. That would have been a two birds with one stone situation where we both get the long-awaited LGBT representation and get to keep a cool character like Matt involved in main events instead of painfully shunted off to the side.
I’m getting a headache just thinking about the thought process behind Matt’s story line. Like which writer invested enough time to make this character that lovable to the audience and then agreed to just let him disappear?
And if, again, it was a matter of not having approval for the representation until season 7, why not just make it so that Matt was suspicious of Kuron and kept his distance from day 1? Then we get a situation in which Kuron being a different person than Shiro would have at least had an impact on the plot, Matt would have looked super in love with Shiro by virtue of being able to tell something was wrong with him without the writers having to do any real work, they could have had a real reunion at the beginning of season 7, and Matt could have helped to build a new arm for Shiro as a touching, symbolic way of repaying him for sacrificing himself to the Galra arena to save Matt in season 1...
I’m so tired, my dudes.
Yes, yes, you’re welcome to tell me I’m just unpleasable and nit-picking, but I’m not trying to trash on this show because I’m irrationally throwing shade, personally hate the creators, or some bullshit about Klance isn’t canon king--I’m just the kind of person who really, really appreciates good writing, and yes, secretly, I get really, really salty when I see people getting paid to make bad writing choices.
I love that we got LGBT representation in Voltron! But I hate that, like almost every other notable plot point in this show, it--so far!--appears to have been done without any attention to building up strong audience expectations in advance and more carefully investing in character development over time.
And seriously, if it turns out that Shiro and Adam don’t even ever reunite, and all we get of their story is Lauren’s off-screen comments about their “beautiful relationship,” I will not be surprised be so done with this nonsense.

VLDWhumpas Day 11: Pneumonia
I’m literally struggling to keep my eyes open, but there will be a Day 11!
@vldwhumpmas2017
Post-College AU– Pre-Klance
“Dear Guy from Apt. 3-B,
It appears you’re sick.”
Lance pauses– pen hovering over the word sick. If anything, ‘sick’ is the understatement of the century, if the coughing alone is anything to go by.
It started a week ago– that much Lance can remember. He bumped into the guy in the hall, and boy, did he look rough. Lance never caught a name– not when he was too busy practically gaping at the flushed cheeks glowing a deep red against pale, almost ashen, skin or the slick sheen of sweat coating sunken features. He only managed out a weak “uh, you okay?” before the guy shrugged with a harsh cough and sidestepped around to get to the stairs.
The days to follow were rough; Lance just barely caught sight of the guy slipping out of the apartment complex in a leather jacket– long, unruly hair pulled back against the sharp winter breeze. It was at the same time everyday; they always just missed each other, with Lance returning the apartment building as his neighbor left, but Lance still saw the guy stalking down the snow-covered sidewalk with hunched shoulders and a popped jacket collar.
While they never came face-to-face, Lance could hear every hacking cough. He could hear every groan of discomfort, every stumble to the bathroom for a glass of water. He could hear it all, and frankly, he was worried, even if he didn’t really know the guy.
He meant to mind his own business– it’s something Hunk has been berating him about for years, but last night… Last night was, well, quite scary actually. There was more coughing then there was silence, and at one point, Lance was sure he heard the dull thump of a fall, followed by more barking coughs that left Lance wincing while remaining wide awake– just in case.
After that, he knew he had to do something, so he figured a note– it’s not too pushy but still enough to let the guy know he’s here.
“I can hear you coughing every night. (The walls are incredibly thin; why do you think rent is so low?) It sounds painful, dude, and to be honest, I’m a little concerned. I’ve seen the jacket you wear– leather, dude, really? You must not be from around here, and I get it; I was in your shoes once. I come from a tropical place myself, and let me just say, the winters here were a MAJOR ADJUSTMENT.”
Lance contemplates crossing out at least half of the paragraph but shakes his head instead and grips his pen tighter as he furiously scribbles.
“What I’m trying to get at is that I’m here if you need anything; I can help you get a better coat, or whatever… I also have medicine if you need some. Not to brag, but I’ve binge-watched five seasons of Grey’s Anatomy in one sitting, so I’m kinda an expert with medical stuff.
So, don’t hesitate to knock on my door at anytime, okay?
Sincerely,
Lance from Apt. 3-A.”
He adds a smiley face to make the note seem more… well… approachable before he slips out of his room to tape it to the other guy’s door. When he gets back to his room, he curls under his blankets, exhausted from the sleepless night before, and drifts off, feeling a slight weight being lifted from his chest.
*****
The dull knock pulls Lance from slumber to consciousness, but the hacking coughs get him moving. He’s on his feet in seconds, stumbling in the dark to get to the door, and when he rips it open, he blinks against the sudden hallway light to see the guy from next door turned away and coughing harshly into the crook of his arm. Lance frowns at the specks of snow dusting the guy’s hair and jacket, and when the guy finally manages to catch his breath, Lance takes in the wind-bitten cheeks with questioning eyes.
“Uh, hey,” the guy says, or rather, croaks– enough to have Lance wincing at the deep rasp. “I got your note.”
“Uh, yeah,” Lance starts, unsure of what to say– something that’s rare for him.
“I was wondering if you had some cough medicine..”
“Of course!” Lance steps aside, flicking the light switch before he motions for the guy to step into the apartment. He leads his neighbor into the kitchen, nodding toward a chair as he sneaks off to the bathroom’s medicine cabinet.
He opts for cough medicine, ibuprofen, and a thermometer, just in case, before he doubles back into the kitchen, finding the guy doubled over and barking out deep, chesty coughs, one after the other until Lance is dropping his supplies on the table to rub a gentle hand against the guy’s back.
Lance can feel his neighbor shaking under his palm, even after the coughing subsides. His frown deepens as he steps away.
“You must be freezing,” Lance says, and the guy nods as a sharp shiver shoots up his spine.
“Gotta walk to and from work. I don’t know how to drive on all this ice.”
“..You walk?”
“It’s four blocks.”
“You walk!?” Lance’s hands wave about wildly in the air. “You walk outdoors like this? With that sorry excuse of a jacket?! No wonder you’re sick!”
“It’s just a cold.”
“A cold,” Lance repeats, voice mirroring the disbelief that’s taken hold of his features. “You think this is just a cold? You kept me up all night with the coughing and hacking, and it sounded like you passed out at some point!” It’s not quite anger that’s spiking across Lance’s blood– he can’t pin it. Frustration maybe?
“I’m sorry-” the guy starts, bringing one fist to his mouth to cough harshly. “I… kept you up.”
Sympathy colors Lance’s eyes, and he shakes his head. “No, it’s fine– just. Here.” He holds out the thermometer, and his neighbor arches a brow.
“I just need medicine.”
“Humor me.”
Whether it’s exhaustion or a want to leave as fast as possible, the guy obliges, and just moments later, Lance is sucking in a sharp hiss of a gasp at the 104.6 degree reading blinking back at him. His hand is trembling slightly as he leans forward to brush his palm to the guy’s forehead; he’s hoping the device is broken– that it’s just a fluke of a number– but the heat is there, and it’s intense.
“Dios mío,” Lance mutters under his breath as he turns away from the table to find boots and a coat because this guy is not okay. At all.
“What are you doing?”
“Hospital,” Lance calls out, hopping on one foot as he shoves a boot onto the other. “Your fever’s too high– this isn’t a cold.”
“That’s–” the guy tries, but a burning coughing fit shoves up his throat. It’s two minutes before he can speak, and by now, Lance has a coat and boots on over his pajamas, and he’s got his fingers curled tightly around his keys.
“Not necessary,” the guy finally finishes, and Lance shakes his head.
“No, it is. Look,” he pauses, motioning to the guy.
“Keith.”
“Great. Look, Keith. Your fever’s pushing 105, and you can’t go five seconds without coughing. And, I’m pretty sure I hear a very concerning crackling sound that’s coming from your lungs, so I’m driving you to the hospital before I have to explain to cops that you died in my apartment because you’re too damn stubborn.”
Lance is borderline breathless by the time he’s done, but his words must strike the right chord because Keith only nods with pressed lips and allows Lance to help him to his feet.
*****
When Lance spots the doctor coming out of a wide set of double doors, he hops to his feet immediately, crossing the large waiting room to meet the man half-way.
“Pneumonia,” the doctor starts with a frown. “It’s bad but treatable. He’s going to have to stay for a few days.”
Nodding, Lance fiddles with the sleeve of his coat. He should leave–he only knows Keith’s name, so staying would be.. weird? Odd? Inappropriate?
“He’s asking for you.”
“Huh?”
“Keith. He’s asking to see you.”
Lance takes a step back, eyes blowing out wide at the doctor’s words. “He is?”
“Yes. I’ll walk you back.”
Lance wordlessly follows the doctor until he’s standing in Keith’s room as the doctor leaves to give them privacy. He can’t meet Keith’s eyes– he doesn’t want to look at the ghostly pale skin or the large mask covering half of Keith’s face–  so he paces instead, keeping his eyes locked to the floor.
“Look, I’m not normally that mean. Or pushy. Or whatever. You were just scaring the hell out of me and being so stubborn, and damn, dude, I really thought you were going to keel over and die on me, and-”
“Lance.”
Lance’s tumbling words come to a halt, and he snaps a sharp gaze to see Keith panting while holding the oxygen mask away from his mouth. “Yeah?”
“Thanks.”
It’s one word– a small rasp that’s choppy and an apparent struggle, but it’s enough to have Lance’s tense shoulders sagging with a wave of relief that floods his body to his very core.
“Uh, yeah, no problem.”
“Stay?”
The one word question is unexpected– it’s small but it carries a forceful weight that has Lance practically running toward the chair closest to Keith’s bed.
“Of course.”

you just responded and i nyoomed to answer. yes my days consist of waiting for you. yes i’m not ashamed to admit it. <3
that makes so much sense actually? like A Lot of sense. i don’t think you should feel bad about that at all i mean if you are comfortable with how you perceive them then by all means! haha! what’s fun about fanfics is that people can take one character and shape them in so many different ways. canon doesn’t anyways give us depth to characters yet writers do which 🙏🏽 godsent. but then again, it can feel weird if someone makes them behave like ~someone~ else haha. i remember it used to be a hot topic in voltron actually, where people would portray lance as a weak and emotional guy only even if he’s arguably the bravest and most bamf... people didn’t like that very much. do you know what i’m talking about?
I’M SO EXCITED TO READ ALL OF THESE. thank you so much you just set my late night weekend plans 😏. and oh god esselle is the ao3 writer. i love their bnha fics so much. can’t wait to read their haikyuu stuff as well. kagehina too... 🥺 dude, i saw some oikage things last night and i have my eyes open.. 👁 i know you like them a lot so hm... i’ll definitely read that as well i love the summary already.
he’s puppy-like so would he like to play in the water? i want to say so, just bc i think it would be cute for him to splash around 🥺
just one?? wow now i get what you meant in your earlier messages, shskdhsk. all my current friends i’ve known since we were children, i don’t even know how to make new friends irl tbh.... AND SAME!!!! CHILDHOOD FRIENDS TO LOVERS GO BRR. and god the best thing is how things change but at the same time they don’t? like they start to notice little things and realize they’ve always liked them? or the ‘i thought best friends felt like this towards each other’.... aaaaaaaah. 🥺 but then again enemies to lovers.. the tension and the yearning? the moment everything just snaps? god i couldn’t pick my favorite i don’t think. i just love those two so much equally hahah.
if it’s cyberpunk vibes i will combust. i love those aesthetics so much.. (waiting for ps5 to restock so i can run around in night city in cyberpunk 2077 forever.) but yeah it makes sense for it to be themed like that but it’s so funny to think about transporting from the whispering woods to like... large billboards and grungy streets. AR 35?? oh that’s must earlier than i expected. so i take it the main story isn’t done yet?
how sexy, even though this blog is just our messenger app at this point snskdhkddhj.. once again, i’m sorry riskeith stans.. 🙏🏽
i wish i could get you all the cotton candy in the world. and wow kenma HAIR!! sounds so cute but wait oh my god,,, do you have short hair,....... 😳💗💓💕👁💘💝💓😭💗👀💖💓💘💝💞 do you? 😳💢 how was it shaving everything? must’ve been such a big decision!! 😳
ikr? like most of the fics i’ve read portrays them as a angst ship which i do love a lot but you’re right it’s funny bc in canon they’re just.. supportive idiots. i think it’s the oikawa fangirls thing and iwa being annoyed by it that people get hooked on. at least i think since it’s almost always there in the fics... :+ DO YOU LIKE IT? i’m so obsessed with it i saw a edit on ig with klance and that song earlier and it fits them so well too... 🥺 anyway back to iwaoi, i think i like writing from iwa’s pov actually? i haven’t tried writing much from oikawa’s yet but idk.,, iwa’s personality just speaks to me. also i like that oikawa’s personality is so complex to understand, it’s easier to spice up the angst that way. (I DON’T 🥺 it’s such a sad topic for me bc it’s my ultimate dream to drive but it costs soo much money to get it here and i’ve been too busy to invest... 😭 wbu?????) I KNOW MEMO AND OH MY GODNESS? i’m sure the fic is sooo good oh god.... the vibes. 😭 please tell me what it’s about. please. 🙇🏽‍♀️
OH it means that i’m just gonna reread your fics until you post something new... here i thought i was being clever and cute shshskdhdks
STOP YOU KEEP MAKING ME SO EXCITED aaaa ma’am please... think about my heart. 🥺
here’s a new topic to discuss; are you a coffee or tea person? (or neither.. please don’t say so)
kiss, m.a. 💘
i keep forgetting to check whether you’ve responded or not before shutting down my laptop and i’m left to answer on my phone 😭😭 and i too spend my days awaiting your responses <333 but i always forget to check after a period of time HFJSKFKSKCKNC i swear i’m checking like once every 5 min but the moment i forget you respond NCKSNDN
bro (do you mind being called stuff like that lol) writers give us everything canon is too cowardly to give.… truly blessed 🙏🙏 yeah i do!! there are a lot of complaints about mischaracterisation in hq fandom too actually… which i think is fair enough but at the end of the day just let these people have their fun you know.. it’s not harming anyone and if you don’t like it just don’t read! lol
i haven’t read much of esselle’s bnha actually (aside from tdbk) but i just know they’re absolutely amazing!!!!!! absolute legend i hope (i know you will tho hehe) you enjoy her kagehina toooo. and yes oikage!!!!!! omg pls 😭😭😭 i wish they were more popular aaaa
🥺🥺🥺 razor in one of those baby pools.. RAZOR WITH POOL FLOATIES!!! my goodness 😭😭😭😭
fjksnxksndm yeah but i think i might be an outlier in that… LOL oops. and you’re so right like they just grew up together and like grew in love it’s so natural and just comes to them like they were always supposed to be together and they are <333 bc soulmates <33333 BUT YEAHHH THE MOMENT EVERYTHING SNAPS YOU KNOW IT!!!!! god when person A SAVES person B even tho they’ve “hated” them the entire time...… but when they were faced with a tough circumstance they realised they couldn’t bear the thought of being without them 😩😩👌👌👌👌👌👌
omg ps5.… ngl i considered buying a ps console so i could play the last of us 2 chxjjskskxjxjs. have you seen all the cyberpunk memes tho? lolol. nah main story isn’t done!! i think the main story is supposed to develop all 7 worlds until we find our sibling so like.… it ain’t gonna be over for a LONGGGG time (lol omg could you imagine if mih*y* pulled a me and like 4 worlds in was just ‘ok soz i’m uninterested now you can imagine how the game would’ve gone’ HFJSJFKSKFKDJ)
HAHAHAHHA it legitimately is. riskeith who??? more like marriage anon stan account. fjdkfnnd anyways to my other followers hope y’all are enjoying the show 🤪
i do have short hair rn!!! lowkey a bowl cut but i’m also trynna grow out a mullet djksndksnd. and having a shaved head was so nice.. i literally just couldn’t stop touching it after cjskckksnfks. and it wasn’t that big of a decision to me tbh i’m not that fussed about my hair like i know some other people are djskkd the biggest obstacle was getting my parents to agree 💀💀💀 (much like i am trying now..…) i used to have my hair long for ballet, but once i quit i just kept getting it cut shorter and shorter and then voila! shave. GJDJKSKDND
true.. jealous iwa.. i have that in one of my wips i believe FJSJJCKSKDK (it might even be in the memo fic?) AND UHHHH i didn’t love the song ;–; it’s just… slow HFKALDLAKDK and not the mood i was in when i heard it cjdkslxllskcjskcnkscnkzmxmcm omg no not klance 😭😭 they have a lot of angst too.. (i say, as if there isn’t a single klance fic of mine that doesn’t have angst JFJDJSKDJ) OMG YOU LIKE WRITING IWA POV TOO???? you 🤝 me iwa kin. i joke that it’s because i, much like him, am very much in love with oikawa. (aw no i’m so sorry for bringing it up 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 but i’m on my learner’s rn!) IVE POSTED THE OUTLINE ONCE (not a good sign… LMAO) https://kaheyama.tumblr.com/post/190015338287/yall-want-some-iwaoi-angst THERE!! also wait i just realised it has manga spoilers.… maybe don’t look fjdknfjd (you could stop after “pining iwaizumi hajime” but i don’t want to accidentally spoil you 😭😭)
JFKSKSLAKFKSKCJLSKD IM so sorry it WAS clever and cute my brain was just not big enough at the moment to understand 😭😭😭😭😭 but thank u as always i appreciate 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗 so honoured you would even think about going back to them lord knows i don’t KFKSJSKA
HEHEHE NO MERCY!!! but ok ok i shall lay low until the day comes 😋😋😋
tea!! simply bc i can’t sleep if i drink coffee fjskfjsj. but that’s been happening with tea too so i haven’t even had tea recently 😭😭😭😭😭 flavour wise i think i like coffee more but also you get so much more variety with tea? hm. HAHA. hbu??
hugssss, c.r. 💝

Paladin Character Analysis
Here I am once again where I should be doing something productive yet thinking about Voltron. I am hyped for season 5! The thing on my mind today is an analysis of the Voltron crew’s personalities, largely viewed through the ways I can relate to them (or not). Each character is very archetypal, but I think the show does a reasonable job of throwing in a bit more complexity, allowing a lot of very different people to see different qualities that they admire or possess. That's how people decide they like fictional characters, after all. I've ordered this list roughly in order of how much I identify with or think I understand each person.
More after the cut. Much more.
Lance
Water. This is my element. It ebbs and flows, displaying equal gentleness and strength as befits the situation, and Lance has proven he is a versatile member of the team. The scene where he told Coran he misses rain really stuck with me – rain on the roof is possibly the most relaxing sound I can think of.
He's fun and lighthearted, often cracking jokes and trying to make the others smile. I find humor is often the best way for me to deal with stress or grief. Immediately upon coming out of the cryo pod, he makes a joke about Allura asking him on a date – and yes, I do believe that was a joke -- which shifts the tone of the conversation away from grievous injury. In the space mall, he jumps to help Pidge find the money for the game console so they could have something fun to do in the Castle. The blue lion is probably the most welcoming and friendly of the bunch, something that I strive to be despite being kind of terrible at dealing with people, and I'm sure that my first flight in a lion would have looked a lot like his. Despite putting up a front of confidence and cheer, he's insecure about his role on the team. It's only after he receives explicit recognition from his idol Shiro that he begins to feel confident in his skills. Even then he still has doubts, so much so that he offers to step aside for Allura.
Overcompensating. Absolutely. He likes girls, sure, but he's also way too overt about it. It's possible that he really is just that flirty, but I think he's overplaying it to draw attention away from something else, either intentionally or not. It could be that he's still figuring out or uncomfortable with his sexuality (there's just enough Klance chemistry that I would believe it if the show went that way), but it might just be that he's being loud, boisterous, and obnoxious to draw attention away from the fact that he's not always a carefree party boy. It's hard to say right now, but I bet we'll be getting some clues down the line. Personally I like the idea of a bi character on Voltron, and Lance fits the mold for someone still in the closet.
Lance's self-care routine is an awesome inversion of typical gender roles.  I think he and Hunk (cooking) are the only ones we've seen with noteworthy feminine-coded interests, and you know who's not about that "girly" life? Pidge! Allura is more typically effeminate than Pidge, which is fine, but I love that not being the only kind of femininity we see on the crew. It can be hard for a guy to accept having feminine interests, and Lance being comfortable doing so shows that either a) he really cares about making a good impression and strives to be well groomed or b) he don't give a shit what you think and will pamper himself if he wants. Possibly both.
Pidge
Nature! Technology! It seems conflicted! I'm a computer scientist who loves to unplug for a few days and go hiking or whatever. These two seemingly opposite interests in a person can absolutely blend, and it was great to see her realize that on Olkarion.
Machines > people. One of the primary reasons I decided to become a programmer, and I'm pretty sure the same is at least partly true for Pidge. She was a misfit at school because she was driven to learn (and possibly some other stuff), made fun of for her intelligence, and appears to have withdrawn from people to work on computers. I didn't have to deal with a lot of that, and I'm very thankful for the environment I had in my schools growing up. She needed the team to help draw her out of her shell, and now her friends are a surrogate family. Apparently, a lot of people like to characterize her as ace because she's a nerd, and while I agree with the ace bit, I argue it's actually the other way around.  Computers don't ostracize you because they don't understand you. Computers won't mock you or tell you that you just "haven't found the right person yet." I know some ace folks who have told me what it's like to grow up with that crap, and I'm not surprised Pidge gave up on people. I also headcanon her as trans, which is yet another possible source of social issues. That bathroom moment at the mall? Very telling.
The way she reacts to alien technology may look over the top, but let me tell you, an elegantly written algorithm is one of the most beautiful things in the universe. AI is exciting! The materials are exciting! There's so much shiny technology to explore out there!
Shiro
He is in his 30s. I will fight you. I know it's only supposed to be an age gap of a few years, but his appearance, behavior, and voice all make me believe he is older than canon.
Good lord, this man needs a therapist! Shiro is so busy supporting the rest of the team and helping them through the zillion difficult situations this war has gotten them into that he hasn't taken time to deal with his own demons. He needs that. He's put things behind him, sure, and we're not seeing his PTSD so much anymore, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. He managed to shove it all away in a corner and stop looking at it. It'll be interesting to see what Sendak's return does to his mental health. Poor Space Dad.
Shiro is my favorite paladin. Hands down. I'm very drawn to dad figures, and he's attractive to boot. He's confident, a quick thinker, and does a remarkable job keeping emotions in check and leading with logic without being perfect. We get to see that even he has his limits with Slav and Sendak. He supports his team, knows their strengths, and doesn't force anyone to do things they don't want to. We've seen gallows humor from him as well as bad sound effects, and when he thinks he might die, he names his replacement to be sure that the team won't feel lost when he's gone. I'm also pretty sure he and I handle emotional stress in similar ways: poorly.
On the subject of stress as relates to shipping, I have thoughts. Shiro is hurting hard, and he needs someone he feels close enough to that he can confide his pain in them. I've been in a similar situation (to a lesser degree), pushing things away and bottling emotions up until it did very bad things for me. It took the kind of trust I could only form with my SO to start learning how to lean on someone else, and even now, years later and in a much better place, I can only think of three people I consider confidants. (Yes, I am absolutely projecting here, but) I wouldn't be surprised if Shiro has similar difficulties opening up. There isn't anyone he feels comfortable talking to yet, and he might need a stronger bond than the one between friends and teammates before he can. Unfortunately for our black paladin, I have a hard time picturing him with anyone currently available. The age/maturity gap that I can't get over immediately rules out the younger paladins. Besides, they're his kids. If Shiro is going to get into a relationship, he needs someone who can give him the kind of support he extends to everyone else, not someone who looks up to him like a father figure. Next choice? Allura, but they're both too focused on the war. They've got bigger things to worry about than dating, and neither will probably even think about such things until after they've won. Maybe a someday option, but not now. Coran? Just... no. Despite needing a deeper relationship in a bad way, I think Shiro is too private, focused, and traumatized right now to even think about it.
Can I just say I love watching him fight? It's beautiful. He's very fast, fluid, and in the other guy's face. Always very well animated, too.
Hunk
I love Hunk. Dude's awesome. He reminds me a lot of my sister: obsessed with food, just wants to be comfy, a little high strung when things don't go according to plan. No wonder he and Lance are bros. Not a lot of character depth for him yet, which makes me sad. Seems like Hunk is mostly played for laughs, so I appreciate that he was suspicious of Rolo and Nyma instead of any of the others. Of course, Hunk is also pretty stable as a person, so he's not in need of as much growth as the rest of the paladins. He's a solid grounding presence (ha ha) for them.
Keith
Keith is... difficult. I have a hard time getting into his head. He's a rebel; I'm not really. His anger is hot; I think mine is cold. He needs to figure out his family to know who he is; I couldn't do that until I got away from mine. He obviously cares about his teammates, and they're probably the closest thing to a functional family he's ever had. I wish we had gotten to see him struggle and grow more in a leadership role. While he is too reckless to be a good leader, the consequences of those disastrous first missions should have helped him do better. Instead there was an irritating time skip and OH YEAH KEITH'S TOTES IN THE BLADE. I wish that time had been handled better.
That said, he's doing well in the Blade. I like him there. There's more room for personal responsibility and the snap decision making that he likes to do. It's letting him stay in his comfort zone instead of pushing him to improve like leading Voltron would have, so pros and cons, but that was not a role that suited him. He'll find opportunities that are better for him. Even after real Shiro comes back and they beat the stuffing out of Kuron, I think staying with Marmora would be better for Keith.
Allura
I WISH SHE HAD MORE DEVELOPMENT. This gal kicks ass. I love her. She's not your standard princess in some ways, but she's also been their magic plot device more than once. Alteans are chameleons? Let's see that referenced again, please! The Balmera thing? Sweet, but I wish we knew more about that too. Is that a royal thing only? Could Coran do a ceremony? Probably not to save the whole creature, but I don't see why he wouldn't be able to do it on a smaller scale. Haggar/Honerva does magic stuff, too, which either tells us magic isn't just a royal thing or it's a result of messing with quintessence. Hard to say.
The mice? Much Disney princess. Such wow. Useful little buggers, though.
She really is the heart of Voltron, and she's the commander of the war effort as well. Devoted as hell. She killed her dad a second time for the war. She got (partly) over her Galra grudge for the war. She's been a diplomat, a support pilot, and a paladin for the war. Allura is cool.
Coran
He's the goofy uncle whose prime function is watching out for Allura. Flair for the dramatic. Not really much to say here. Nice 'stache.

okay what about some pining!klance and everyone (including each other) knows how they feel but they just don't know what to do
your birthday is tomorrow (or in a few hours) so I thought I would go ahead and write this one for you. I’ve never written anything klance so this was super fun to work with !! Happy Birthday !!!
Hunk knew Lance would never admit it, but the playboy was head over heels for Keith. At first Lance would make subtle comments like, “If Keith were here” and “I miss making fun of Keith” which he would also never admit to the fact that it was playful teasing. Hunk knew when his friend genuinely hated someone, and when he was just being playful.
“You fit that ‘boys will be boys’ stereotype.” He said through a mouthful of cookies he’d just baked.
Lance arched a pointed eyebrow. “What do you mean? Isn’t that phrase kinda toxic?”
“Well yeah, obviously. What I mean is like you’re mean to Keith even though you like him. Kinda what boys in elementary school do to girls they actually like.”
Pidge snickered in agreeance. “You do act like a grade schooler.”
Lance nearly choked on the milk he was drinking, while the other two paladins laughed at him mockingly before Lance jabbed a finger into Pidge’s chest. “Okay, well first off, I’m not a grade schooler, if anything you’re a grade schooler, being the youngest palad-”
“I’m smarter than you-”
“And secondly, Keith is NOT a girl so obviously-”
“You’re gay. I get it dude.” Hunk stated, a happy smile on his face.
Lance only stared at him wide eyed, mouth dropped before his jaw clicked shut. “Hunk, you know I am not gay-”
“Yeah, you’re probably bi if anything, but you literally haven’t gone a day without mentioning Keith since he left to join the blades. Don’t mean to call you out, but that’s his shirt isn’t it?” Hunk pointed at the My Chemical Romance shirt. Only one person here listens to that.
“I’ve always listened to MCR…”
“Since when?” Hunk raised a confident brow this time, and Pidge was quick to put Lance on the spot.
“Since Keith left.” With that, Lance stormed out the kitchen, while his two friends giggled quietly.
“Why is it always so cold in this castle?” Lance whined as he walked into the breakroom, seeing that Shiro was napping somewhat on the couch while Pidge and Matt were discussing something probably nerdy.
Shiro peeked one eye open at Lance, before closing his eyes and resting his head against the back of the couch. “I don’t know. Is Keith’s jacket not keeping you warm?”
Lance flushed, before he scowled at the older male. “Excuse you, this is my hoodie!”
Shiro didn’t bother to open his eyes and look at him, but his tone of voice was amused. “So you both bought the same red and white jacket? Cute.”
Matt perked up. “Damn Shiro, you have eyes everywhere huh?”
“I actually have eyes built in my arm-”
“Ahem!” Lance interrupted, both hands on his hips. “I’ll have you know that when your beloved Keith dropped out of the Garrison, they ended up giving me the stuff he never received before he left.”
Shiro openly glared at Lance, which made him flatter. “It’s fine Lance, we’re just teasing you. We all know you miss you beloved Keith. It’s fine.”
Pidge actually took a moment to stop whatever she was typing up to stare back and forth between the two paladins, before Lance finally let up with a defeated sigh. “I, uh… I gotta put on my facemask. It’s that time again.” With that he left again.
No one said anything else to Lance about him pining over Keith. They’d shoot each other knowing glances when Lance would walk in wearing something that obviously was not his (you usually wouldn’t catch him dead in a Metallica shirt and skinny jeans) or try not to giggle when he even slightly mentioned anything about Keith or the blades.
Lance was slightly aware of his behavior. When he was cold at night (whenever night was in space) he’d sneak into Keith’s room to steal a few pillows, a blanket one night, and eventually had his whole wardrobe in his closet. Any missions they’d engage, Lance felt a bit more at ease with Shiro being the leader again, but it was hard to accept when he was just starting to get used to Keith leading the team. It was also weird to form sword, since that was Keith’s job.
Some days he’d go to the hanger and fly the red lion, wondering how in the world Keith got used to such fast and quick responding controls. He found himself thinking more into a flight or fight instinct, and nine times out of ten, he’d end up fighting, just how he suspected Keith would.
“I miss my bond with the blue lion, but I also miss Keith too.”
“Finally!” Hunk exhaled. “You admitted it!”
Lance grunted as he watched the game they were playing end. He put it on pause to sit back and lean up against the bed.
“Yeah, I guess. I wish we were more important to him than the blades were.”
Hunk took a moment to study his friend, before saying anything. “Lance… I don’t think it has anything to do with who is more important. I think it’s that Keith found a place to belong with the blades, that he just didn’t find here with us. Shiro and… well the rest of us, hoisted a lot of stress on his shoulders making him the leader and all.”
“That’s true I suppose. I just wish we had done more to get rid of his insecurities. It bothers me that he thinks so low of himself.”
Lance sighed as Hunk rubbed his back. “I’m sure you’ll convince him otherwise when he gets back.”
“What? How?” Lance perked up at that, excited at the thought of Lance returning, even for a little bit.
“Dude… have you seen your own room?” He gestured to the room, that was covered with Keith’s clothes in piles, and extra blankets and pillows that obviously didn’t belong to him. Lance could only shove him playfully while they laughed.
“Shiro.”
The leader took a second to turn around, so engrossed in the map and where they were stationing rebel fighters that he almost missed hearing his name. When he turned, his eyes widen with surprise before his face lit up in a smile.
“Keith! You’re back!”
They both hugged for a moment before Shiro let him go, hands placed on his shoulders.
“Is everything alright?” He asked, his tone laced with worry as he looked Keith up and down.
“Yeah. The blades decided to send me back here for a couple of days so I can keep up with you guys. Kolivan said I need time to kinda regroup. The work we’ve been doing, its… well you know.” Keith smiled and looked down for a second. While he definitely was pleased working with the blades, their brutal ways of believing the mission was more important than any individual did grate on his emotions a bit. It’s not that he didn’t agree with them, but every mission was life threatening.
“I understand. Maybe you should go rest up a bit, the others are having some down time. We can all meet up at dinner later.”
“Uh, about that…” Keith shuffled a bit. “If the other guys really didn’t want me apart of the team, you could have told me so Shiro. I honestly would have been more than fine just leaving, since I was never really a good tea-”
“Keith. What are you talking?” Shiro crossed his arms, wondering what could have spurred this on.
“Well, my stuff. You guys got rid of all my stuff in my bedroom. I already checked.”
Shiro could only blink for a second before laughing out loud. Keith jumped in shock for a moment, staring dumbly at the older man he considered to be his brother. Shiro was better at expressing his thoughts and feelings on things than Keith was, but like Keith, he didn’t have these kinds of out burst (Keith had angry ones, other than that, he was reserved).
“Oh Keith…” He sighed. “It’s not like that. Go check Lances room.”
Keith felt a vein pop in his forehead. “I swear if this is another cruel prank from him I’ll-”
“Just. Go. Check.”
Out of all the clothes Keith owned, Lance had to admit that his Garrison hoodie and sweatpants were the most comfortable. When the door slid open, revealing a red faced paladin in his tight black marmora suit (which Lance found admittedly hot), Lance went through a whole range of emotions. He went from anger, to embarrassment, to extremely happy to flustered in like two seconds that he choked on his on spit when he tried to say “uh”.
“Why do you have your hair up in a bandan- Why are you wearing my clothes?!”
Lance took a moment to recollect himself. “It’s not like you needed them after you left!”
“So you just take people’s things when they leave for a little b-”
“Don’t say it’s been a little bit! You’ve been away for several weeks now! Besides I’m the red paladin now-”
“Yeah, yeah I get it! You never wanted me to be the head anyways!”
Keith grumbled as he started to pick up his clothes. “That’s not true…”
“Of course it is. Don’t lie.”
“I’m not lying! Sure it might have been hard accepting that Shiro was gone and we had to rearrange lions but I never wanted you to leave me or the rest of the team!” Keith snapped his head at Lance, and his gaze softened a bit at how serious the tanned boy looked. He knew Lance could be serious at times, but it was far in between. Normally his flirty attitude put the rest of the team at ease, so this meant he probably felt deeply about this.
Keith sighed as he stood straight up with an armful of his own clothes. “I didn’t mean to upset you or anyone else by leaving the team and joining the blades. I thought I was doing the right thing.”
Lance only frowned at that before coming closer to Keith and knocked the clothes back on the floor. “Leave your clothes here. There’s too much to carry back.”
“Okay where am I sleeping?”
“In here.”
“Excuse me?”
Lance pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. “Are you deaf and dumb? You’re staying here. I can make a makeshift bed with all the extra pillows and covers. There’s no point in taking all your stuff to your room when you’ll most likely leave again.”
Keith only blinked before he grinned at Lance. “What? Because you’ll only go back to get my stuff?”
Lance turned beat red at that, but he wasn’t sure if it was because Keith was lowkey flirting with him or if it was because Keith had a beautiful smile.
“Just shut up! To answer your question early, the bandana is to pull my hair away from my face. I’m about to put on a face mask. Wanna join?”
“Sure.”
Lance barely hid his delight at the answer. “Okay then get out of that ugly suit,” he lied through his teeth, “and wearing something more comfortable.”
“Hmm, okay.” Keith took a moment to watch Lance head into the bathroom to mix his concoction before he started to unbuckle his armor. “Hey Lance! Can you help me for a second?!”
Lance almost dropped the glass bowl he was mixing in before he shakily set it down. ‘Okay Lance, chill. He’s got nothing that you haven’t seen before!’ Taking a deep breath he slowly stepped out the bathroom to see Keith in nothing but the body suit.
‘Damn he looks good in black!’
“I just need you to unzip the back for me.”
“Y-Yeah. Sure thing.”
Carefully, he brushed away Keith’s hair (his hair felt like silk) and slowly pulled down the zipper, the noise it was making seemed like the loudest thing in the room and rang in his ears.
“The hell?” He cleared his throat, keeping his blue eyes going from broad shoulders to the narrow waist and small of Keiths back. “How the hell do you not get your mullet caught in the zipper of this thing?”
Keith scoffed at that. “For that, I’m gonna wear something of yours.”
“Fine by me.” Lance blurted out before mentally screaming at himself. Quickly, he turned on his heel to finish mixing the face mask.
Keith only stared at him before sliding the suit off, and grabbing some shorts and a tank top. So Lance like. He walked into the bathroom, watching Keith had some rosewater and witch hazel to the muddy concoction in the bowl. Lance took a moment to glance at him.
“Aren’t you cold wearing that?”
“No? It’s not nearly as cold in this castle as you say it is.”
“Well… it doesn’t get cold in Cuba.” There was almost a sad look in his blue eyes, and Keith felt bad that he brought it up.
“Hey, I’m sorry-”
“It’s fine!” Lance chirped, trying to push away the thoughts of his family and home out of his head. “We need to pull your hair back from your face.”
Keith arched a thick eyebrow as he watched Lance go rummaging through a cabinet. “I look ugly without my mullet.”
“You’re ugly with it. Here.” Lance held up a hair band and a hair tie. “Turn around so I can brush your hair.”
Keith narrowed his eyes at him, before turning around. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
Lance slowly started from the bottom, brushing his hair and smoothing it out with his hands. He couldn’t tell what Keith’s expression was, but by the soft sighs, he seemed to be enjoying it. It looked like at one point Keith’s hair was just normally short and he didn’t bother to get a trim, so it turned into a mullet at the base of his neck.
‘Does he wash his hair with coconut oil or something?’ Lance wondered, but decided not to ask. He brushed his grown out side bangs, and pulled it back into a tight and small pony tail at the top of his head. Afterwards he stretched the hair band over his head.
“Turn around.”
Keith turned towards him, and Lance pulled the hair band up over his face and made it pull back the rest of the lose bangs the pony tail couldn’t hold back completely. Lance stared at his face for a second, never having seen his whole face like this before. Keith happened to have high cheekbones, and pretty square jaw, while his forehead evened out the rest of his face. Not too big, not too small, and while he had thick eyebrows, for someone who probably didn’t tweeze them, they had a perfect and natural arch to them.
“You are a horrible liar.” Lance said, not holding back this time, and was delighted to see Keith blush and look away.
“Is the face mask ready yet?”
“Yes. You’ve probably never detoxed your face before, so I’m putting yours on first.” Lance dipped the brush into the mix, before brushing it over Keith’s face.
“Oh my god! It’s cold!”
“I thought you didn’t get cold! Now stay still!”
They both bickered back and forth while Lance painted Keith’s face with the green mix, Keith watching through the mirror and making snarky comments about Lance’s lack of painting.
“Yeah well, we’ll see you do better.”
“I will!” Keith snatched the bowl after Lance finished and dipped the brush into paint Lance’s face next. With a shaky hand, he decided to start with Lance’s forehead, figuring it would be the easiest.
“Wow you already got it in my eye brows!”
Keith rolled his eyes. “It’s not like you have any to begin with. Compared to me anyways.”
“Excuse me? Are you blind too? I’ll have you know these eyebrows are the fullest you’ll ever see. They have never been touched by a razor.”
“Suuuure.” Keith laughed at him. “Stop scowling. You’re gonna mess me up.”
Lance sighed irritably and watched Keith paint on him through the mirror, but every now and then he would look at Keith and note how adorable he looked when concentrating. Keith would look back at him, and for the first time noticed the deep blues in Lances eyes. ‘He really was meant to be the blue paladin huh?’ Embarrassingly, they both would look away.
Once finished, Keith set the bowl in the sink and turned on the hot water so it’d melt off the bowl.
“So uh… how long will you be here for?”
“Several days.”
Keith looked at Lance, trying to figure out what was making him look so serious.
“Hey can I ask you something?” Keith broke the awkward silence, watching how Lance stiffened.
“Y-Yeah?”
“… Are you doing that thing elementary boys do to girls they happen to li-?”
Keith stopped as he watched Lance groan and bang the back of his head against the wall. “Not this again…”
The shorter male blinked for a moment, before feeling a knot well up in his throat. “What- Actually nevermind. That was a dumb question and that’s a stupid analogy.” Quickly, he went to leave the bathroom, but Lance quickly got his arm and gently pulled him back.
“Keith, it is like that. Kinda?”
“Kinda?”
Lance pulled down the collar of his- Keith’s hoodie and was actually thankful the mask was hiding his surely red cheeks. “Kinda, because that is a really stupid stereotype. I don’t want to be mean to you anymore, I never meant any harm in making fun of you, but… I don’t want to pick at you to a point where you feel you have to leave the team.”
Keith’s jaw dropped. “Lance, it’s not like that-”
“Yes it is like that! Even if you didn’t take it that way, it didn’t help you feel any better about belonging here. I’m almost positive Shiro hates me for it.” Lance hugged himself, shivering at the cold and rubbing his shoulders.
Wordlessly, Keith grabbed Lances hand and sat him down on the bed, crisscrossing his legs and sitting across from him. “Lance, listen… I can’t explain why I joined the blades. Part of it is because I wanted Shiro to reconnect with the black lion and the other part… I’ve had the knife on me for as long as I can remember and joining the blades… I feel I’m one step closer to finding out who I really am. It has nothing to do with you picking on me, okay? I’ll always be apart of Voltron, even if I am not physically here with all of you. Besides, I already know you like me.”
Lance perked up at that, eyebrows raising. “Really?”
“Yes. We would not make a good team if you absolutely hated me.”
‘Idiot, not that kind of like.’ Lance felt his world damper a bit, all hopes lost.
“I didn’t mean that kinda like. Like… I like like you.”
It was Keith’s turn to be surprised. “Really? I thought you were straight?”
Lance wrinkled his nose at that. “What gave you that impression?”
“For starters, every planet we’ve gone to you find some girl to hit on.”
“Hmm.” Lance scratched the back of his head. “Good point. I guess I’m bi then, but I’m like ninety nine percent sure you’re as straight as the stick up your ass.”
“Believe in the one percent. I’m gay as fuck.”
“What? Seriously?” Lance choked, almost wondering if Keith was messing with him.
“Yes, seriously! Why would I lie about that?”
“Wow, I like Galra Keith.”
“Man! Shut up!” Lance laughed at him wholeheartedly, and Keith could only Lance back, feeling it was music to his ears.
“Okay, well…” Lance began, quieting down a little. “Do you wanna kiss?”
Keith smirked at him. “Damn you move fast. You haven’t even taken me out on a date yet!”
Lance pouted, his bottom lip sticking out. “Are you rejecting me?”
“Well if we kiss, you’ll mess up our face masks.”
Lance feigned heartbreak, throwing his hand over his chest. “You are rejecting me! To think I’ve never been turned down before!”
“Oh? And Allura hasn’t rejected you a million times before?”
The former blue paladin scowled at that. “She’s probably asexual.”
“Or a lesbian. Better yet, just not interested in you.” Keith teased, watching how Lance was starting to throw a fit.
“Oh shut up! Why do you care if she’s not interested in me?”
Keith crawled closer to keith, placing his hands and Lances thighs and leaning into Lance, his face inches away from the other. “Because I’m interested in you.” Slowly, with closed eyes, he moved in to gently kiss Lance. It was nothing but them pressing their lips up against one another, but the action was intimate and Lance closed his blue orbs to hold the moment. After a moment of pressing up against one another, Keith pulled back before it could get to heated. He wasn’t ready for that, and he didn’t want to mess up their face masks.
Lance’s eyes fluttered open and they looked into each other’s eyes before Lance spoke softly. “Several days… that’s not enough time for us to figure out where we’re going with this.”
Keith sighed, head bowed. “I know, but at least I have one extra thing to come back to. In the meantime, you can keep my clothes.” He glanced at the clock, and got off the bed. It was around the time Coran would serve dinner.
“Of course…” Lance sighed, dewy eyed as he Keith held his hand and let him out the bedroom door.

Dancing On The Roof
Take this away from me already, God.
Happy late birthday, @l-x-ie !!!! Hope you enjoy this ‘small’ fic, and again a big thank you to @monsir-arts for letting me base the fic on this fanart of theirs.
I have nothing else to say except: Thief Klance Au and that this may suck HARD but whATEVER.
Ps. Guys, this is like 6k .....so like, here’s the Ao3 link tbh.
Disclaimer: Voltron doesn’t belong to me and neither does the art.
His hand hovers over the empty marble surface and Keith just wants to scream.
That motherfucker.
He picks up the small yellow post-it on the middle, where his diamond is supposed to be, and his blood boils with fury.
Keith could kill him, honest to God, he could and he would throw the biggest party ever, but he can’t. He can’t because killing Blue will mean having the entire Altea Agency on his ass and Keith can do without the extra attention on him.
Keith just wanted to settle down on a motherfucking private island with a glass of lemonade, was that too much to ask?
‘Better luck next time, Red ~ <3’ it reads, handwriting playful and loopy.
Apparently, yes, it was a lot to ask.
He crumples the post-it with one hand before tugging it into his jeans’ back pocket. No point on leaving evidence of his presence on Blue’s robbery.
Robbery that was supposed to be motherfucking his, honestly, what the fu –
‘Patience yields focus,’ Keith thinks, cutting his own train of thoughts, and then he takes a deep breath, shoulders losing their tension at each exhale he releases.
He opens his eyes and turns around, tugging his blade back to its holder before climbing the walls to exit the museum.
Shiro looks up from his tablet to find Keith ripping to pieces the last piece of newspaper in their floor. He waits until Keith has settled down, panting hard and an angry flush on his face, and then he speaks up.
“Blue?” He asks casually, and that earns him another scream from his partner.
“Shiro! Shiro! He stole my painting! The painting I have been eyeing for weeks now. I was going to steal it tonight and he fucking – ! Oh my god! I’m going to kill him.”
Shiro stares flatly at him. “Keith, he’s from the Altea’s Agency, you know, our allies?”
“He keeps stealing from me!”
The older man rolls his eyes but grins at his friend. “Then you need to be faster, buddy.”
Keith glares at him, annoyed and angry, throwing the remaining paper of his newspaper towards Shiro. “That motherfucker has been on my ass for weeks now! You know, when I accepted this job, by your constant pushing, I didn’t expect an annoying shadow following me around and stealing my missions.”
“He can’t be your shadow is he’s a step in front of you.”
Keith ignores him. “’Neck and neck’ he said, what the hell does that even mean?”
Shiro turns to him, looking confused. “Neck and neck? You have been back from the desert for two months and you already have a rival?”
“He’s not my rival!”
“The cub has a rival? So soon?” Another voice joins the conversation, both men turning around to meet another one of their co-workers, “Who is it?”
“Hi, Thace.” Shiro waves lazily.
The older man nods at him, “Shiro, hello, you still owe me that last week report.”
“Right, right.”
“So, back to the cub’s rival.”
“I don’t have a rival!” Keith snaps.
Shiro shrugs. “He’s called Blue. He’s from AA.”
Thace’s eyebrows lift up in surprise. “Ah, I have heard of him. Him and his occasional team is actually from your generation.”
“What?” Keith asks, hands finally lowering from the air and he pushes himself closer to this chair’s edge towards Thace, “What do you mean?”
“Back in the Garrison Academy, you know, where every student has to train under the program before they are selected or assigned into an Agency?”
“I know what the Garrison is!” Keith scoffs irritated.
Thace looks at him unimpressed. “Well, that guy, Blue, is from your generation and one of the top ones, if I may add.”
Keith blinks and scrunches his nose at his mentor, “Am I supposed to remember him? I didn’t even finish my program before I was tossed and shipped to the desert by Kolivan.”
“Hear, hear.” Shiro mumbles, taking a sip from his tea.
Thace shrugs with a smirk. “You got an undercover mission, a B classified mission, before you even graduated. That’s quite the achievement, kiddo.”
“That still doesn’t explain why this guy is on my shadow.”
“Technically –“
“Shiro, I swear to God –“
The older man chuckles, ruffling Keith’s hair as if he was eighteen years old all over again, “Don’t think too hard, kiddo. I will have a talk with Allura and make sure your missions don’t intersect each other. Just focus on your own, alright?”
“Yeah, yeah.” Keith grumbles.
“Good. Now, has anyone seen the newspaper?”
“Uh…”
“Keith ate it.”
“Dude.”
“I’m on the move. Black, do I have the go?” Keith mumbles low under his breath, fingers pressed against his ear-com as he kneels on the edge of the roof, eyes scanning the security guard’s moves.
“Hold it,” Shiro whispers slowly and Keith can hear the way his partner is tapping the surface of his computer from his side of the com, the tapping clearly matching the security guy’s steps.
Ten full ticks and then, as the guard closes the entrance’s door behind him, Keith gets his go.
He jumps, feet hitting the roof’s ground harshly but painlessly. He stands up, rolling his shoulders back before cracking his neck. Keith smirks to himself, proud that he didn’t need to use the grappling hook to get across between roofs.
There’s a whistle and Keith snaps his attention to the right, face turning into a deep scowl as he meets Blue’s familiar body shape from the corner of his eye.
“Aw, hell no.” Keith mumbles, taking a deep breath before turning and meeting Blue’s eyes, staring unamused as the man winks at him as a greeting.
“Why, hello there, Red!” Blue says cheerfully, waving his arm around in the air towards the dark sky, “Lovely evening, am I right?”
Keith limits himself to stare flatly at him, flipping him off without a word before turning around, heading towards the window to get inside the building.
“Oh, oh, silent treatment? Rude. Where are you going, anyways? Oh, could it be? Could it be that you are looking for Angelica’s Heart? One of the most valuable gems on the National Museum of our country? Could it possibly be the reason you are here?”
Keith doesn’t answer and keeps walking.
“Because -”
He’s at the edge of the window, the hatch already open and Keith can feel his insides boil already. Blue better not have –
“It’s not -”
Keith pushes his face forward, eyes scanning the room below him, and there’s only one thought running through his mind –
“Going to be there.”
That motherfucker.
Blue barely had time to groan in pain before Keith’s on him. His back hits the ground hard and he coughs a few times, letting out a small ‘ow’ as Keith growls menacingly above him.
“Return what you stole, Blue,” Keith snaps, foot pressing further down against the brunet’s arm, “before I break your arm.”
The little shit laughs. He fucking laughs.
“Sorry, Red,” He chuckles, eyebrow raised in challenge and smirk sharp, “but your heart is mine now.”
This motherfucker.
“Oh yeah, that’s so clever, Blue, har har,” Keith laughs drily, hand curling into a fist as he leans further down, hovering over the brunet’s face, scowl back on place, “Now, give me back my ruby.”
“Funny how they call a ruby a ‘heart’, right?”
“Second try: give me back my ruby.”
“I didn’t see your name on it.”
“What are you? Twelve?”
“On the scale from one to ten, yes.”
Keith inhales deeply, hand twitching and aching to grab his blade but he controls himself. “One last chance: give me back my ruby or I will kill you.”
Blue purses his lips, as if thinking it over, before he clicks his mouth and sticks out is tongue in mock.
“Nah.”
He will kill him. That’s it, no more holding back, he’s 100% going to kill him –
“Red,” Shiro’s voice makes its way back to his com and Keith’s shoulders tense up at the sharp tone on his partner’s voice, “The mission is over, turn back and report back to the base.”
“But –” Keith complains, eyes falling back to Blue’s frame, scoffing in annoyance when he sees the brunet is laying almost lazily on the floor, not minding in the least that Keith is basically pinning him down.
“Now, Red.”
Keith grunts but nods nonetheless, mumbling a quick ‘understood’ before he pulls himself back and starts walking away from Blue.
“Yeah, okay, fun night, huh? See you next week, man! You know, if you actually get there in time!”
So, okay, Keith returned to the base with one knife missing, and he might had had his ear chew off by Kolivan because of it, but the surprised yelp and pained grunt of Blue as the knife hit him straight on the shoulder made it worth it.
Here’s the thing: Keith might be sleep deprived and jetlagged but he knows what shit he owns, alright?
And he knows for damn sure that he left his 19th Century wrist clock on his coffee table.
Keith frowns, eyes narrowed suspiciously before his breath hitches and looks around him wildly before yelling out in annoyance and running towards his terrace, the only entrance to his apartment besides the front door.
“You come back here, right now, with my shit, you piece of shit!” Keith shouts, waving his fist in the air and leaning forward on his terrace’s handrail, “I will find you and I will kill you, you hear me!”
There’s a snort and a soft ‘Oh my god’ above him and Keith’s quick to look up, his dark eyes meeting Blue’s lighter ones.
“I can’t believe you just threatened me with a meme,” Blue giggles, shaking his head in amusement, still hanging upside down from the apartment’s exterior pipes, “A motherfucking meme, oh my god.”
Keith stays silent, hand reaching for his blade and he groans internally when he remembers it’s on the other side of his room inside his apartment.
He limits himself to flip Blue off.
“I don’t even know what you’re talking about and I don’t give a flying fuck,” Keith growls, trying to push himself higher to meet Blue’s face – tippy toes, he was basically on his tippy toes – “but I’m sick and tired of this game, get your own targets and your own shit.”
“Oh, but I do have my own target,” Blue remarks, a wide playful grin growing on his face, “and I gotta say, life just got interesting because of him since he came back.”
Him. Did he just –?
“Did you just fucking objectify me?” Keith snaps, scowling when the brunet only laughs.
“Okay, hate to hit and run, but I gotta go.” Blue shrugs, winking at Keith while finger gun pointing at him and then he’s falling.
Keith stares unimpressed as Blue’s body falls just besides him, praying and hoping that maybe he will hear a splash of that dumb head crashing against the pavement below them instead of a grappling hook shot.
There’s a laugh, the familiar sound of a grappling hook shooting and Keith limits himself to puff his cheeks in what could almost be a pout.
There’s always next time.
“Don’t you dare!” Keith shouts, pointing an accusing finger towards the frozen spy, “Blue, I see you! Don’t you fucking dare –!”
Blue turns his head slowly, blue eyes wide as if he was actually surprised Keith had caught him red handed for the first time in weeks, before a grin spreads over his face.
“What? Me? Daring to do something that might upset you, Red?” Blue coos, eyes big with fake innocence before he moved his finger closer to the crystal vase in front of him, “but I’m just admiring these pieces of art –”
Keith doesn’t hesitate.
“Nah-huh!” He snaps, grabbing the closest thing around him and throwing it towards his rival, “No! No way! Na-huh, bitch!”
“Ow, what the fuck – !” Blue shouts back in annoyance as soon as the flower vase hits his right arm before it falls and crashes on the floor loudly, “Dude, holy fuck! That one hurt!”
“Good!” Keith cheers, narrowing his eyes and throwing another piece of crystal to Blue, who barely had the time to dodge the tiny empty jewelry box aimed to his head.
“You know what!” Blue shouts, frowning irritated, “Just for that, now I’m definitely gonna steal this piece of shit! Just to spite you!”
“Your entire existence spites me!” Keith yells, grunting in frustration when Blue dodges yet another crystal.
“Oh, oh, yeah? You think you’re so smart, Red? Well, your mullet is an offence to the entire country!” Blue shouts back, grabbing his own crystal and throwing it with vigor towards Keith.
“At least I’m not a low-class spy who can’t get his own targets!”
Another crystal vase.
“You fucking say that to my motherfucking face, you dick!”
There goes a tiara.
“I fucking am? I’m shouting it!”
That glass wasn’t even important, so it’s okay.
“It’s mine!”
“No, it’s mine!”
“I got here first!”
“No, I did! I have been on the outpost for half the night now!”
“Well boo-fucking you!”
“Get off!”
“No, you get off!”
The painting in their hands cracks and both spies stare at the gaping hole in the middle of it before looking up at the ceiling.
“None of you are getting it because you just attracted the police, losers,” The small figure on top of the roof sighs, putting away her gun, “Blue, let’s go!”
“I had that, Green!” Blue huffs, rolling his eyes before grabbing the rope offered to him, his partners quickly pulling him up, “Whatever, you got lucky this time, Red!”
Keith limits himself to raise his hand and move it as if it was a mouth, sticking out his tongue in mock, “You got lucky this time, Red, bla, bla, bleh.”
“You motherfu –!”
Blue’s insult is cut off as his second partner, the one bigger than him in weight and height, picks him up like a bag of potatoes and swing him over his shoulder, an exasperated sigh on his lips.
Keith glares as Blue and Gold disappear from his sight before he shifts his gaze towards the last partner, the smallest one of the trio.
“You got three minutes, Red,” Green announces nonchalantly, pressing a few buttons on her wrist device before flashing him an amused grin, “I would have given you more but I thought you would enjoy the challenge.”
Keith blinks and realizes that the alarm in the museum is off when it had been on just a second ago. He hums, half impressed and half offended.
He grins back at her. “Psh, you gave me more than necessary, Green.”
Green laughs and waves at him as a goodbye.
“Looks like you’re in a tight spot right now, huh, Blue?”
“I would flip you off if, you know, if I could,” Blue grumbles, grunting as he tries to push himself forward before falling back down. “Dude, just...help me out? My head is hurting from being upside down.”
Keith hums, tapping his chin as if thinking about it.
“Okay,” Keith agrees nonchalantly before grinning, “but you gotta give me back the porcelain teapot, you know, the one that belonged to the fucking Queen of England.”
Blue gasps loudly. “Not Mrs. Potts!”
“That one is from France, you uncultured dipshit.”
Yeah, sure, okay, Keith helped his own rival out, but that’s just because there was a very important teapot on the table. That teapot was one of the most valuable items in the country and he will be dammed to miss this opportunity.
Sure, he could just kick Blue in the nuts, grab the teapot and call it a night. He doesn’t, though, because watching Blue fall to the ground comically after he cuts the rope holding him up is way funnier.
They dodge the police, cross the rooftops and then on the fifth neighborhood, Keith hold out his hands.
“Alright, a deal is a deal, man. Hand it over.”
Blue bites his lower lip before he pulls out his hand from his satchel, dropping small pieces of porcelain in Keith’s waiting hand.
“Yeah, so, I might had crushed it unexpectedly when I fell on the trap,” he smiles sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck helplessly.
Keith clicks his tongue and smiles; wide and tight and Lance can only frown in confusion before he’s being push down the edge of the roof.
“Red! Dude! What the fu –! Oh my god!” Blue shouts, hands still in the air, looking wildly for something to hold on to before realizing it was in vain and taking out his grappling hook.
Keith watches, almost bored, as Blue swing himself to the other building’s roof. He leans against the edge of his own rooftop as Blue’s feet find the ground.
“You fucking asshole!”
Keith smirks, makes a poor imitation of Blue’s finger gun points move, wink included, before flipping him off.
“That one was for Mrs. Not Potts!”
He laughs at Blue’s indignant squeak.
Another night, another stolen diamond.
Blue’s laughs echoes around him even after the jump and Keith scowls when he feels the corner of his mouth twitch upward.
“You stop that.” He whispers quietly under his breath to himself before rolling his eyes and turning around, heading the opposite from where Blue had disappeared to.
Okay, so, there goes another gem. Keith adds it to the list of the things Blue has stolen from him, for the record, you know, for the day he actually kills him he will narrate the entire list.
Keith regrets the day he decided to work with a small hand blade and not a gunshot because if he had a gunshot he could at least shot that ass and it will be the death of all his problems.
Well, one of them, because if he needs to shoot every single one of his problems, he would have to shoot Blue’s face too.
And his toned arms.
That jaw too.
Can’t forget the legs.
Keith pauses, shakes his head in bewildered by his thoughts before he takes out his own grappling hook.
Well, goddammit, might as well shoot himself if he goes down this road of thoughts.
The entire bathroom is fogged with steam but Keith’s sure that he should have found his towel already.
The black-haired man groans, leaving the shower stall and stepping out, feet hitting the cold bathroom’s floor.
He looks around him and arches an eyebrow when he sees no white towel on sight.
“I could have sworn…” he mumbles before rolling his eyes and cursing under his breath, heading towards the door.
Keith walks down his apartment's hall, cracking his neck softly and sighing in content as he feels his muscles relax even more. He hums to himself aimlessly as he steps into his bedroom before he stops abruptly.
He waits; one, two, three ticks before –
“Damn.”
The breathless whisper is enough for Keith to spin around, throwing one of his blades hard towards the origin of the sudden uninvited voice.
“Shit, gotta go, ok, bye, Red! Uh - I didn’t think you would actually – ! You know  – !  I um – Yeah anyways, your towel is really soft where do you get it? You know what? Never mind, I’m going now, because I see you have more knives. Look at that, not at all surprised and...and you are aiming your next one, okay, bye now!”
The second blade flies and Keith curses loudly when it only grazes Blue’s shoulder as the brunet dives towards the terrace.
“Son of a bi  – ! Did you really just steal my towel¡?”
That motherfucker.
Keith pants hard as the turns a sharp corner, bullet barely missing him.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck.”
Shiro had warned him, he fucking had, saying that the sudden unregistered mission couldn’t be anything but a trap but Keith hadn’t listened.
‘You don’t have a green go for this mission, Keith,’ Shiro had said two days ago, ‘Not until we figure it out where it came from.’
It came from the Galra, Keith found out, but he really couldn't gloat about his discovery seeing as he was ambushed and attacked by said spies.
‘This is gonna cost me an ear with Shiro and Kolivan,’ Keith thinks, dodging one of the shots coming from behind him, hissing in pain when the gash on his right hip doesn’t agree with his sudden movement.
He was supposed to be on the other side of the city, stealing some diamond that came from all the way over from Russia, but no, he isn’t because Keith's a stubborn ass who wanted the unofficial mission and get himself killed by their enemies.
Whatever, Blue probably already stole it by now for sure.
He’s too entranced with his thoughts, which is something that Thace would scold him about, that he doesn’t notice the sudden body coming from his left and then his entire body crashes against the wall, yelling out in agony when his bad shoulder collides with the hard surface.
He slides down the wall slowly, biting his lip hard against his teeth as he glares at the Galra spy in front of him.
There’s a gun’s end staring right down at him and Keith can only sigh, dropping his shoulder but pushing himself as tall as he could in his lumped sitting position on the floor.
He glares up at the gun, eyes misty and wide but never wavering.
Keith hears a laugh from the Galra, as if they were amused, but he saves himself the energy to curse them. Instead, he closes his eyes and hopes that those who he considered family know that he had tried and that he had cared.
He closes his eyes and waits. For the first time in his life, he waits.
There’s a shot and that’s all Keith needs to know it’s over.
“Red, hey, are you with me? Red!” He hears someone hiss near him, familiar, almost comforting, and Keith can’t help but think ‘huh, death really is painless.’
Except it wasn’t.
“Keith!” Someone shouts and then there’s a sharp stinging pain in his left cheek, the one that isn't decorated with a gaping gash in the middle, and Keith snaps his eyes open, the end of a gun being replaced with a pair of big blue concern eyes. “Come on, man! Keith!”
That’s his name. How does Blue knows his name?
“Are you with me? Keith, answer me!” Blue tries again, this time patting his cheek as if to make him focus but Keith can only frown in confusion, eyes only shifting to the side to see the unmoving form of the Galra.
“Blue here, I got him. The East Wing has been neutralized, heading to the exit now. I will meet you outside, no, I got him, don't worry.”
Keith has no idea who he’s talking to but he doesn't care. He just keeps staring at Blue, eyelids fluttering quickly, his entire body shaking with exhaustion.
“Hey! No falling asleep on me! No way Jose! Red! Keith!”
“Yeah, yeah.” Keith mumbles quietly, falling forward, fully expecting for his face to meet the floor but instead, he’s pressed against a firm warm chest.
“Okay, alright, time to go then.” He hears Blue whisper and then he’s being carried, bridal style, his mind lazily recognizes.
It’s a good thing Keith’s half conscious, because he would throw a fit if he wasn't.
There’s noise and voices around him, the sounds of tires against the pavement along the faint sound of police sirens but Keith can’t seem to concentrate. Not when strong arms hold him close to their warmth, as if he was something precious, like one of the gems they are in charge of stealing.
Someone is calling for him, asking, maybe begging him to stay awake. He feels the sharp pain of something piercing his skin and he jerks abruptly, barely being able to move with the arms around him but there’s a soft humming on his ear and its distracts him enough from the pain until he can barely notice it.
He hasn’t realized that he had closed his eyes until the smell of vanilla hit his nose and he opens one eye, slowly and weakly to stare at his own living room.
Keith blinks, confusion clear on his face and then he looks up, eyes meeting Blue’s strong jaw and steady gaze. It feels almost surreal to see Blue so serious and without a smile.
It’s not long before Blue catch his stare and then a small smile appears on his face, making Keith’s stomach to flip.
“Hunk and Shiro already patched you up enough on the way here,” Blue fills him in, quietly and low, footsteps gentle as he walks towards the bedroom and Keith vaguely notices the way he’s still on his arms, strong and secure, “You still need to go to your base’s infirmary to make sure. Pidge made sure to completely erase your presence from tonight’s event and Allura’s working on the Galra as we speak. It’s done, so you just...just rest.”
Keith hums, not really understanding Blue’s words but still nodding as if he did. He pushes himself closer to Blue’s chest, his eyebrows furrowed together as memories fill his head and mix themselves. He feels like he’s back in the Garrison’s halls, back in the classrooms, the library, and training deck. There’s a faint memory of a loud young voice filling his mind followed by laughter, teasing and then –
“Lance.”
Blue’s steps falter for a second before he continues, mumbling something unintelligible under his breath before dropping the injured spy on the bed carefully.
“You said my name,” Blue whispers, shock and surprised clear in his voice, “Keith, you – ?”
Keith hums, patting Lance on the shoulder with his good arm.
Lance smiles, small and wobbly but a smile nonetheless, “Ah, so you do remember me.”
Keith would roll his eyes, he honestly would, but he’s too comfortable and warmed that he doesn’t give a shit.
Although, he can still troll Lance.
His mouth twitches, eyes half lidded. “Heh, lousy thief.”
Lance snorts, “Yeah, sure, bring back the Academy’s nicknames, why not, Mullet.”
“Says the one...that never grew up from that one.” Keith slurs, words getting longer and quieter.
His vision is blurry but he can still see the way Lance shakes his head, and if Keith has to guess, there’s an amused smile on his face.
“Whatever you say, man,” Lance whispers and Keith feels a hand on his head, fingers passing through it tenderly, “Don’t go off schedule anymore, because this is the kind of stuff that happens when I’m not with you.”
“Lance and Keith, huh?” Keith whispers, and Lance hums.
“Neck and neck,” Lance adds just as softly, a small playful grin decorating his face, “but lately seems like surpassing you, Mr. Oh I Was Top Of The Garrison Before I Went Undercover Like A Hermit.”
Keith snorts and tries to lift his hand to flip Lance off.
He fails but he’s sure that Lance got the memo because he hears him laugh, but then the hand leaves, the warm dims and Keith’s eyes flutter open.
He sees Lance’s back walking away from him, heading towards open terrace and Keith’s voice gets caught up in his throat.
He tries. His hand shakes as he lifts it up from the mattress, reaching for Lance, reaching to pull him back; for a reason, for whatever reason, he needs to pull him back –
But his vision turns dark, black spots filling the edges, making Lance’s figure to disappear slowly and then he’s out like a light.
His hand falls back to the mattress motionless.
When Keith arrives, it’s the sight of Lance sitting on the roof that greets him; legs swinging on the air as he hums quietly under his breath.
Keith huffs and stomps his foot down annoyed when he catches the soft gleam of the emerald under Lance’s satchel.
“Took you long enough, Red.” Lance hums, not turning around to meet him and Keith resists the urge to choke him.
He does try though; raising both of his hands, still a few feet away from Lance and levels them to where Lance’s neck is before squeezing, hands only meeting air.
“Low-key hurt that you’re trying to imaginary choke me when I saved you three weeks ago.” Lance chuckles, throwing his head back to meet Keith’s glare and his grin only widens.
“I wouldn’t have to choke you if you stopped stealing most of my missions,” Keith snaps, taking a few steps before taking seat besides Lance, “I can’t believe you stole my first gig in three weeks.”
“Aw, but Red, that’s especially why I had to come!” Lance says, shrugging his shoulder, “I had to give you a warm welcome, ya’ know, which this is.”
Keith’s eyes widen as he catches Lance’s hands searching for something in his satchel. He waits and for some reason he feels excited as Lance pulls something out. Huh, maybe tonight he wouldn’t have to do any acrobatics and still go home with a gem, which is cool.
Lance takes his pale hand and drops something on it, making him to look down.
Keith swears he could kill him.
“A ring pop?” Keith deadpans, staring flatly at the candy, unwrapped candy, in his hand.
Lance grins. “It’s watermelon flavour!”
Keith clicks his tongue and smiles, wide and tight and Lance sees it coming before it even arrives.
“No, no, Red –!”
Keith throws the candy to his face, successfully colliding with his forehead and making the brunet to yelp in surprise.
“Dude! That thing costs two dollars!” Blue complains, rubbing his forehead with a pout, “Jesus, at least you didn’t throw me off the ro – Fuck!”
It’s fine, he had his grappling hook.
Keith thinks.
“Kei –!”
Maybe?
He waits, hears a loud ‘ow’ and then pops his head to the edge, smirking when he sees Lance lying face down on the fire escape stairs.
“Are you alive?” He asks nonchalantly, leaning against the edge with his knee.
Keith hums when he hears some groaning.
He’s fine.
“He wasn’t supposed to be there, you know.”
Keith looks up from his blade and meets Shiro’s eyes at the entrance of the common room.
“What?”
“Blue,” Shiro nods, pushing himself from the door’s frame and walking towards the younger man, “That night you got ambushed. He got his own mission on the other side of town but instead he headed to your assigned mission and contacted me as soon as he realized you weren’t coming.”
“He...did?” Keith frowns, lips pursing like they always do when he’s thinking too hard and Shiro takes it upon himself to save him the energy.
Shiro slaps the back of his head.
“Dude,” Keith hisses annoyed but Shiro waves him off, a wide smirk in place as he narrows his eyes suspiciously at Keith’s blush.
Keith huffs, turning away from his partner and picking his blade once again, ignoring the way Shiro point at his own cheeks and puffs them before pointing at him, as if telling him something about his face.
Sure, he feels hot but...the AC is not on, so, yeah, whatever.
“Whatever, that only means that I get to steal that gem next week –”
“Oh, no, the gem is long gone. He stole it the next night.”
“That motherfucker.”
“Hell no. You don’t get this one. You give me back what you just stole and walk away, right now! Blue! Blue, goddammit!”
Keith groans, following Lance to the edge of his terrace before climbing on the wall and ending on the roof of his building, crossing his arms over his chest as he glares at Lance.
The brunet laughs and waves the ruby gently on his hand in Keith’s face. “Oh, what? You want this back? Dude, your own fault for stealing it from me last week, again. I thought he had already established that your heart was mine.”
Keith narrows his eyes in annoyance but his heart beats wildly inside him, his breathing hitches and he knows there’s no use on denying.
Lance may not know this, but Keith’s no longer referring to the Angelica’s heart ruby.
Lance’s tone is playful, like it always is; a teasing and mocking edge on every word that leaves his mouth, making Keith scowl at himself to even feel the sharp tug he feels inside him when he hears them. Keith’s done; he’s tired of this dance on the roof.
“Why should you have it in the first place?” Keith whispers, honest confusion filling his features, not even bothering to deny what was real, his eyes searching for something in Lance’s. He takes a step forward, shoulders dropped, “Why do you even want it?”
Lance’s eyes widen in surprise and shock and Keith almost feels bad for him for dropping the sudden bomb on him but he sees it. He sees the hesitation in those blue eyes. He sees the wobbly movement from Lance’s Adams apple and he sees the way Blue bites down his lower lip, as if holding himself back.
“Lance.” Keith hisses, annoyed and frustrated.
Lance sighs, knowing that the gig was up as soon as his name left Keith’s lips. He drops his hand and jerks his head towards the edge of the building.
Keith’s follows him quietly and sits beside him; shoulders still tense and half turned, as if waiting to hear the answer and yet aching to run away from it.
‘Knowledge or death,’ Kolivan had told him once, back when he was a reckless teenager looking for answers that shouldn’t be found.
Tonight, Keith understand the meaning behind those words better than anyone, and he has accepted his choice.
“You know there’s this saying: An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,” Lance mumbles, rubbing his shoulder aimlessly and Keith ‘s stomach turns, guilty when he realizes it’s the same spot his blade had hit him on all those months ago.
Keith frowns, raising his hand and letting it hover over Lance’s shoulder. “That time when I – ?”
“Hm?” Lance hums, confused by his question before he follows his gaze and his eyes widen, “Oh man, no, hah, believe me, there’s no grudge for that.”
“But you said…an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth?”
Lance nods, no resentment in his eyes as he turns to meet Keith’s gaze once again and finishes for him. “Yeah, and a heart for a heart, Keith.”
Keith’s breath hitches and he’s barely coming to terms with the meaning of Lance’s words before two hands are cupping his cheeks and suddenly Lance’s breath is on him.
“Can I …?” He breathes out, quietly as if there was a chance to wake the entire city if he spoke any louder, “Keith, can I –?“
Keith doesn’t allow him to finish. Instead, he launches forward, quick and hurried, and presses their lips together.
Keith melts.
Warm spreads over his body and he smiles into the kiss unconsciously, feeling proud of the small noise he gets from Lance when he bites down on the tanner man’s lower lip. He pushes himself forward, chest pressed against each other and Keith lets himself go.
He loses track of the time, there’s only Lance for him. Lance’s fingers stroking his cheek, cupping it gently and keeping him close. He feels them on the back of his neck, playing with the end of his hair and gripping it tight and Keith holds back a moan.
His own hands travel their own path on Lance. They go from his hair, to his ears, earning a soft giggle against his mouth, followed by the jaw, and all the way down to his waist, pulling with close with a sharp tug that makes the brunet gasp in surprise and Keith tries to suppress the grin that threatened to break the kiss, but he does hum in appreciation.
Time pass and before neither of them are aware of, they pull away when the need of air is desperate and Keith allows himself to stay still; eyes closed, forehead pressed against Lance’s and he breathes.
“Oh no, what is this?” He hears Lance mumbles playfully, making Keith to open his eyes to stare at him confused, “Angelica’s heart I stole from you? In your hands once again? Keith, how could you steal that from me?” Lance asks in mock offense, hand pressed against his chest.
Keith blinks and frowns, opening his mouth but then Lance’s eyes fall down to Keith’s open palm, making Keith to follow his gaze, and his breath hitches when he sees the ruby in his hand.
“I am betrayed,” Lance laments, mouth twitching in amusement when Keith snorts, “Well, damn, seems like I’m gonna have to steal it back from you, huh?”
Keith’s heart flutters at the words, feeling a sudden rush of affection towards the brunet, feeling thankful that Lance’s still giving him a chance to decide on his own.
Keith huffs, because his decision has been made way before he even realized he had made one. He shrugs his shoulders and replies casually, playing along. “I mean, you can try, Lance, but…”
He turns the ruby in with his fingers, inspecting it carefully and wondering how a small gem was able to get so much meaning.
“There’s no need.” Keith mumbles before locking eyes with Lance again, offering a gentle smile, “Seems like the ruby itself found its favorite thief.”
Lance pauses before he beams and laughs. He laughs and shakes his head in disbelief before he throws himself to Keith, arms around his neck.
Keith joins him, circling his arms around the brunet’s back and nuzzling on the crook of his neck, enjoying the faint smell of caramel in Lance’s clothes.
“But the next sapphire that we encounter is mine, you hear me?”
Lance snorts against his neck. “You just like the analogy of gems being hearts and you want one of them being my heart.”
“A heart for a heart.”
“Fair enough.”

okay because apparently i’ve put more thought into this than even i thought i had, here’s my take on a Harvest Moon au, and y’all know this is gonna be a klance one - literally half (if not more) of this au is based off a romance option in More Friends of Mineral Town
okay so i’m basing this au (pretty loosely honestly) off my personal favorite harvest moon game (b/c it’s actually the only one i ever played lmao): Friends of Mineral Town/More Friends of Mineral Town, and if anyone actually ends up reading this and wants to know more of a summary about the game itself to understand what’s happening in this au then i’ll happily get into that -- but for now while i’m assuming that i’m just talking to myself,
Firstly, Lance impulse-buying a farm for this au is honestly so Relatable
Secondly, listen in the game there’s this guy named Cliff who recently moved to town too and he doesn’t have any family and he’s really quiet and kind of a loner and you have to befriend him within the first year of the game or else he literally leaves town forever -- and i can’t remember everything but i’m pretty sure of all the romance options for dudes he’s the one that loves nature the most and i just - does this all not just scream Keith?????
plus the pastor of the church in the game asks you to make friends with this guy because he has a hard time making friends himself and with a mentor figure like that how can you nOT immediately be inspired to throw a little broganes in the mix here, but okay messing around with storylines to make it 100000 times more applicable to the Lumberjack Keith Living in the Mountains aesthetic that i want:
Shiro’s a military veteran that moved to this tiny town and built himself a little cottage in the mountains for optimal Rest and Relaxation
he serves as the lumberjack in the town, operating his woodworking business from his mountain cottage
Shiro’s cousin Keith moves in with him for Unknown Reasons not too long before Lance moves to town
Keith helps Shiro with his orders to build/carve stuff for the other townspeople
he’s super closed-off and has no idea how to handle social situations but he Tries
he probably comes off a little rude at first but once the townspeople learn (probably either from Shiro or firsthand experience) that he’s really just an awkward sweetheart they quickly warm up to him
not that this makes Keith any less awkward around people but it does earn the townspeople the occasional grateful smile when they respond to his lack of people-skills with kindness
Lance and Keith actually don’t meet for a while after Lance buys the farm actually
Before Lance can even think about having animals on his land he’s got to weed-eat the heck out of the place, and that’s putting it lightly because damn this place hasn’t seen any sort of care for y e a r s at this point and calling it “overgrown” is the understatement of the year -- but basically this doesn’t really require any woodworking yet
plus Keith doesn’t really ever go into town unless it’s for a job, so between Lance spending most of his time wrasslin’ with mother nature and Keith basically refusing to leave the mountains they’re constantly missing each other
they hear of the other’s existence sure, but it’s basically one of those ‘everyone knows this person and talks about them but i haven’t seen them even oNCE and i’m not entirely convinced this isn’t just a giant prank’ situations
Lance is the new talk of the town what with him being the first person to buy the farm and then actually stick around in  a g e s, but Keith always takes the path to and from town that’s on the other side of a hill from the farm, and basically never really gets a chance to #confirm this gossip
Everyone tells Lance that if he needs any repairs done or when he wants to fix up the barn & animal pens then he should go talk to Shiro and Keith
Lance has actually met Shiro a couple times now (who has also confirmed the existence of this Keith person) but somehow Keith becomes like the one person in the entire town that Lance has yet to meet
Eventually this is resolved after a pretty gnarly storm rolls through and leaves Lance’s roof with at least five different leaks and Lance has to go to Shiro for help
Keith is actually out when Lance pays the little mountain cottage a visit (Lance seriously doubts the guy’s existence at this point)
There are more storms coming soon and Shiro suggests getting the leaks repaired early the next day, to which Lance agrees, entirely forgetting that “early” in this town actually means “the asscrack of dawn” until Shiro shakes his hand with a comment of “Great, I’ll see you at 6 in the morning then.” and by then he’s already agreed he can’t just back out
Which means that the next day he’s scrambling to make himself look somewhat presentable when he wakes up to a knock on his door (sleeping right through the five alarms he’d set for himself) and flings open the door to greet Shiro- only it’s not Shiro
It takes an embarrassingly long time for Lance’s brain to start working again and when it does of course the first thing out of his mouth is about as eloquent as he feels, “You’re not Shiro.”
Lance isn’t entirely sure how to read the other guy’s face, he can’t tell if he’s pissed off from his comment or incredulous at Lance’s incredible powers of observation- “Congratulations, you have eyes.” - okay maybe a bit of both but really though who has that level of wit this early in the morning?? that should be illegal
“I’m Keith. I’m here to fix your roof.” - and this is how Lance learns that the Mythical Keith is actually Real
Basically it’s not the best meeting and Lance is kinda put off that he got dragged so hard before his brain was even functioning properly for the day
Plus it’s like whatever circumstances had kept them from meeting in the first place are just gone now because he starts seeing Keith everywhere
Okay goin’ into lightning round here b/c this is already 10 years longer than I was expecting and i still need to write a short paper due tomorrow
Basically Lance starts getting more of the buildings on his land fixed up, which requires Keith (and sometimes Shiro) to be there
(You KNOW Shiro has Keith go help Lance instead of being there himself because he knows Lance and Keith are about the same age and this is a great opportunity for Keith to make a friend)
Keith gets to witness Lance still trying to get used to early morning wake-up times, and while initially it was kind of frustrating as they come to know each other a bit better it becomes Endlessly Amusing
They wind up developing this snarky banter with each other because of it, and even though they’re under the pretense of dragging each other eventually one of them will say something that gets them both laughing
Basically they wind up having a lot more fun than either of them expects to, and this of course do not go unnoticed by the town and probably leads to a lot of comments on it as the nosy neighbors (read: Hunk) try to get them good good deets on the situation
Now while I am making it all sound like fun and games here (which it certainly is, this au has gotta be just as feel-good and chill as the game is), Keith is definitely still mostly quiet and removed from everyone
Lance probably finds him in the mountains by himself a lot when Lance goes up there to forage or mine
At the end of the day I want it to be this super chill and kind of wistful and feelgood au where Lance slowly learns about this mysterious boy with a mysterious and sad past that lives in the mountains with his cousin
and Lance comes to be a real source of happiness and friendship and support for Keith, which leads to Keith opening up more to the townspeople and making even more friends (Pidge, Hunk, Allura, Coran -- which I already have some ideas for them but I’ll get to that Later)
and Keith kind of unintentionally helps Lance figure out who he is as a person (something Lance felt like he lost while living in the city)
and man i just want a soft good story about two boys helping each other figure out their place in the world and what it means to belong somewhere, but Harvest Moon edition
This concludes my unintentional Essay on a harvest moon au thank you all for coming to my ted talk i hope everyone has a good night

LGBT Ask Game
So, I’m doing @hogwartsonline ‘s LGBT ask game, so here it is.
1. Cisgender. Female. She/her.
2. I had a crush on a girl from summer camp. I researched my feelings until I found something right for me. (Biromantic asexual)
3. Yes. But that’s because I kind of look like a guy.
4. I first told my best friend. She was totally chill about it.
5. I was sooo scared to come out. I live in a religious household, so I didn’t know if everyone would be cool with me liking girls.
6. Everyone I’m out to now is really chill about it. The worst reaction I had was probably my mom, who just had a lot of questions.
7. ‘Does that even really exist?’
8. Comfortable
8. Klance, Drarry, any Sander Side Ships, Johnlock.
10. I don’t like it or use it. It feels cakey on my face, and it makes me feel like I’m hiding my real self. But I understand why some people do use it.
11. Nope. See question 1.
12. ‘They just want attention’
13. How different we are.
14. How hateful within the community we can be. Seriously guys, we get enough hate from everyone else.
15. No. a. Gone for most of June.
b. Church people.
16. Ben Platt. He is gay, which is a part of him, but it’s not all of him, like some celebrities have been marketed. Also, he has the voice of a literal angel.
17. Nope. Single Pringle and not ready to mingle.
18. All of them. But especially Autoboyography and Simon vs. the Homosapiens’ Agenda.
19. No? But I have heard people talk about the LGBTQ+ community horribly in my general vicinity.
20. Love, Simon or Glee
21. Thomas Sanders, Brizzy Voices, Lilly Singh
22. None. I’m glad that people have reclaimed slurs, like queer and dyke, but I don’t have any I want to claim.
23. Nope. I’m too socially awkward for that.
24. My self identity is weird. I don’t know.
25. No. Not by birth. I’ve seen a pregnancy first hand, and I am not eager to try that. But I do want to foster.
26. It’s okay not to know who you are. It’s okay to take time to figure yourself out.
27. Stupid. Do whatever you damn well please.
28. Don’t let people tell you that you’re wrong.
29. It’s not a choice. Why would someone choose to be hated?
30. We are some of the strongest people out there.
EDIT:
Ummm.... so I have to change some of the answers to this thing.
1. Gender-queer, probs nonbinary. They/them, maybe she/her?
2. Sexuality story stays the same. But I went to my first pride, and I wanted to try using they/them along with she/her. Then I kept thinking about it, until I read a book where the main character was nonbinary (I Wish You All The Best, 5/5, should totally read), and I thought, ‘Hey, that’s kind of me.’ So, yeah.
3. I guess I’ve been misgendered my whole life. I’ve only told one person, so.
4. I told a friend I was gender-queer via text and she took it really well.
11. So, I’ve been having dysphoria my whole life, I just haven’t realized. I just thought it was self loathing (which is probably part of it). I just feel really shitty.
15. Yep! Went to my first one this year!
19. Well, some girl in my summer camp cabin said to me (after I told I wasn’t straight, not specifying my identity. Also she was in the shower and I was trying to help her.) “I don’t know who you like, so I don’t want you to see me like this!” Which did not make me feel good.
24. Right now, just gender-queer, but I think I might be nonbinary. Honestly, it’s just that I use they/them and don’t want to be a girl or guy. I don’t care if somebody calls me ‘dude’ or anything else like that.
28. It’s confusing as fuck.

Voltron (Klance) Mpreg (Lance) One Shot
Finally put on my writer boxing gloves and broke through my writers block. <3
Contains mpreg (I still love you guys even if you don’t like it and there’s no shame in blacklisting with tumblr savior)
If you are fans and grow weak from mpreg like I do, then fantastic! Read on and enjoy!
Lance woke up prematurely at the alarm going off in his bladder. He carefully lifted Keith's arms off of him even though his efforts would be in vain, but to his surprise, Keith hadn't stirred a muscle. He sat up and looked at the rest of the crew; all of them out like a light. He knew they wouldn't want him leaving the tent alone, especially in his condition, but for two days, they worked tirelessly making sure he and the child he carried had enough comfort and food to eat while they were stranded in a wooded area of a foreign planet awaiting rescue from Coran and Allura. He thought, what teammate would he be if he didn't pitch in? So he grabbed a fishing rod Pidge had crafted from the emergency kit found inside her lion and tip-toed quietly out of the tent.
Once he took care of business in the bushes, he ventured onward toward a nearby pond keeping mindful of his concerned teammates. He stretched his back, reaching high, touching the crimson clouds decorating the dawning sky.  The child squirmed inside him in response.
“Whoa,” Lance gasped. He lowered his right hand down onto his distended belly. “Good morning.”
A kick.
“You ready to help daddy catch us some grub?” he beamed. “Pay attention now. As soon as you start walking, I'm gonna take you out to a place just like this.”
With every ounce of excitement, he thrust the line out into the water. He stood bravely and firmly in place despite the growing aches in his ankles.
“With the luck I had when you came along,” Lance said. “We should nab a bite before everyone wakes up.”
Yoink!
A violent tug at the line had him up on his toes.
“Whoa!” he laughed. “Speak of the devil!”
The fish jerked left; Lance pulled up to release the tension. Carefully, he cranked the reel back, a task met with brute resistance.
“This is a big one,” he huffed.
The fish jerked right next; Lance yanked the rod up accordingly.
“Froglet Troop!” Lance hollered, reminiscing on his summer camp days. “Don't fail me now!”
His wrists cringed at the weight pulling him in the opposite direction; the line could snap at any moment. With one last heave, he thrust the rod over his arms. The fish flew and foppled over his head, sprinkling pond water on his face.
“Woo!” he cheered. “We did it, baby!”
He took a few steps back, setting the rod down and reeling in the fish securely onto shore. He estimate it to be a foot long. It was a beautiful fish: pointed fins and rainbow scales.
“Aw man,” he panted. “But fear not, beauty of the pond. I shall savor each bite in your memory, once we determine you're not poisonous, of course.”
He clutched his chest; he didn't think that catching a single fish would sap the breath from him like he'd run a marathon.
“That was rough, kiddo,” he chuckled. “You might just get to see your first fishing spot after all.”
“LANCE!! WHERE ARE YOU?!”
Lance would recognize that loving cry anywhere.
“Over here, Keith!” he called.
His dearest emerged from the trees wielding his bayard, preparing for battle.
“Whoa, easy, Prince Charming,” Lance laughed. “No rescues today I'm afraid.”
Keith rushed to his side anyway, cupping his hands on his cheeks.
“Are you okay?” he asked worryingly.
“I'm fine,” Lance assured him. “It's only been a few doboshes.”
Keith lowered his head, catching his breath.
“I can't believe you slipped away like that,” he said. “I'm so sorry.”
“Dude,” Lance giggled. “You've earned the extra winks. You all have. And I have just the reward.” He took a step back and tugged the fishing line, reeling his prized fish into the air. “Tadaaaa!”
“Lance,” Keith gasped in awe. “It's huge.”
“I've seen my dad catch bigger,” Lance said. “But I think we can each get a large serving from this.”
Keith took to his side again, observing him attentively.
“Are you sure you're okay?” he asked.
“Is that the new way of saying 'thank you' these days?” Lance teased.
“No,” Keith said. “I mean-- It's amazing what you did…. But what if you were pulled into the water and I wasn't there?”
“I can still swim.”
“But the baby….”
“Safe and sound,” Lance said proudly, patting his stomach. “Cooking in the oven.”
Keith wrapped his right arm around Lance's waist.
“Let's head back,” he said. “The others must be up by now.”
“If your mating call didn't wake them,” Lance chortled.
“Let me know if anything hurts,” Keith instructed, seemingly ignoring him. “I'll carry you the rest of the way.”
“Aren't I getting a bit heavy for the bridal carries?” Lance jested.
“Just another work out,” Keith said softly. “Like always. Hauling precious cargo from point A to point B, build up the iron to keep you up, rinse and repeat.”
“Well,” Lance said, pondering. “My feet are a bit sore.”
“Say no more.”
Swiftly, Keith reached under Lance's knees and swooped him into his arms. Lance reeled the fish close to his chest to keep it safe.
“Story of our love life,” Lance said happily. “By Lance and Keith.”
“Yes,” Keith said, smiling.
Lance loved his smile so; it shown brighter than the emerging sun along the horizon. The light reflected his glowing skin; Lance resided it to be more than his own. He wondered if it were a dream because such beauty seemed too good to be true, but a light tap in his abdomen reminded him that this was real.

One Last Dance
Lmao, again, in the words of Mini-squatch "damn BleuSarcelle, back at it again with the fucking angst"
But alright, alright, this was not my original idea, ok? My plan was to make a fluffly sleeppy klance one shot but an amazing mutual of mine was like 'hey hear this song' and im like 'dude, that's a sad song???' and she was like 'nooo, i mean yes but it has a happy ending! see? they loved each other for so long that when one of them died, the other followed soon after naturally and they got together again in heaven' and i was like '.....im hearing klance death fic' and she was like 'REA NO.'
And here I am.
Enjoy. *Throws fic to your face and runs away*
Disclaimer: Voltron doesn't belong to me, to es di tu.
Lance takes a sip of the numvill on his hand and suppresses the wince as his tongue tastes the sour flavor. No matter how many surrogate sugar he puts in this liquid it’s never enough.
The brunet grumbles to himself as he spills the numvill on the nearest plant, whistling innocently as he dusts his hands dramatically and steps away from the crime scene.
He wonders if he should head toward Hunk or Pidge, maybe they are having more fun in this ball than he is, but his eyes catches their figures soon enough and he smiles fondly when he sees them chatting animatedly with the planet’s habitants about the technology in their planet.
As much as Lance would love to hear all about how those nanobots were able to get inside of an ever tinier nanobot and was able to stop a revolution, Lance will have to pass. Tonight was supposed to be about relaxation and fun. That’s the whole point of having a celebration ball in the castle.
Which is why going to where Allura and Shiro are, is a heavy no. The pair is still talking with the Leader of the Citinons they just saved today and Lance can’t deal with another diplomatic conversation for tonight. It’s bad enough he has to go with Coran’s to every diplomatic meeting the Altean has to deal with alliances and other political stuff.
Don’t get him wrong, Lance loves his Diplomatic Training, but it gets a little overwhelming at times. Right now, all he wants to do is be at ease and even dance. This planet’s culture is vibrant and happy; their music is upbeat and yet so gentle to their ears. It makes Lance wish for someone to dance with.
And just like that, Lance turns his head and meets a familiar pair of dark blue eyes across the ball room.
Sucking in a sharp breath, Lance lets out a shaky breath and smiles tentatively at Keith. The black-haired teen’s eyes widen in surprise before he’s looking away, face flushed with embarrassment.
Lance chuckles to himself and then he’s crossing the ball room, whistling along the way until he innocently stands beside the Red Paladin.
Starting a conversation with Keith has always come easy for him, but for the last few weeks, Lance has been having trouble in even opening his mouth without rambling or choking on his own words. Lance’s not stupid, despite what many may think, he’s well aware of his feelings for the Red Paladin, but as his recent attempts to work based on said feelings have failed miserably, Lance’s starting to lose the little hope he had.
He thinks this might be his last chance, because it’s taking the last tiny piece of courage he has inside him to be even standing so near Keith. So, as he takes a deep breath and calms his wild heart, the brunet decides to confess in the only way he knows.
That’s why he starts singing one softly of his favorite song as he takes Keith’s hands gently into his own, leading him towards the dance floor.
“Hundreds of eyes in the room but yours found mine,” He starts, arching an eyebrow at the surprised teen, turning his head towards the middle of the room, asking a silent question to which Keith quickly answers with a nod and a small smile, “I asked you to dance and by chance our hands intertwined.”
The room goes quiet, or at least Lance thinks so, because his attention is fully on Keith. On how his dark eyes are suddenly brighter, on how his lips are slightly apart in a frozen gasp, his cheeks are blushed and alive with a soft red, and Lance’s heart beats because he has never seen something more beautiful than Keith before.
“What lasted for minutes seemed like eternity,” Lance continues the song in a trance, the tips of his fingers brushing away Keith’s bangs from his face, “I had no clue this one dance would lead you to me.”
Lance’s voice gets cut off as soon as Keith’s lips are on him.
“Keith.”
Lance soft calling snaps him back to reality and Keith blinks a few times in confusion before he turns and meets a familiar pair of blue eyes.
“Hello there.” Lance grins, “A little spaced out, are we?”
Keith rolls his eyes but his smile is gentle and fond, “Oh, hush. You’re one to talk Mr. I snored during the diplomatic meeting.”
Lance gasp loudly, hand pressed against his chest mockingly, “One time. That happened one time, Keith!”
Keith chuckles under his breath and Lance beams at him, holding out his hand, “They’re waiting for us, amor. First dance and all that.”
Keith hums, his lower back resting against the bar on the terrace, raising a suggestive eyebrow at his husband, “How about, you know, we stay here for a while, just the two of us?”
Lance rolls his eyes fondly as steps closer to Keith, both of his hands cupping Keith’s face gently, “You know I can’t say no to those eyes, I mean, look at them.” He whispers, love dripping from his voice as he strokes Keith’s cheeks, “Beautiful, I swear. I have travel the entire galaxy, Keith, and nothing –nothing, looks as beautiful as you.”
Keith beams at him, pressing himself closer to the brunet’s touch. “I love you, ae-in.”
“I love you too, amor.” Lance whispers back, a breath away from Keith’s lips.
The reception music made its way to them in a soft and slow manner, catching both of their attention before they share a smile.
“We cheers our champagne and wait for our song to begin,” Lance sings quietly, just for Keith and the starts above them, “The band starts to play and you ask me to dance once again.”
Keith hums along with him as the brunet continues to sing, their bodies swinging with each other’s as they dance around the terrace, their silver and gold rings glowing in the dark.
“Such a dumbass, I swear.” Keith mumbles, eyebrows furrowed in concentration as he cleans Lance’s wound on the brunet’s right side, “I told you to not engage, and what do you do? You engage.”
Lance chuckles softly on his spot on the bed before hissing in pain as Keith presses the cotton a little too roughly against his wound, “Love, I saw the opportunity and I took it. It was the right thing to do.”
“It was also the dumbest, Lance.” Keith snaps back, glaring angrily at his husband, “Do you have any idea how scared I was? How scared Pidge, Hunk, Shiro, Allura and Coran were when you didn’t answered your com and when you did it was a pained agonized scream coming from your mouth? You were bleeding fast, Lance. You had poison in your heart, Lance. And you dare to tell me it was the right –“
“Fifty-nine years have gone by since you said yes,” Keith stops short as soon as Lance’s soft singing voice appears, effectively shutting him up.
“We have been married five years, you dork.” Keith says dryly and Lance shushes him.
“We might be old but there's still one thing we can do.” The brunet continues, wriggling his eyebrows in a sexy manner and Keith bites his lip down to suppress the snort.
Lance smiles softly at him before carefully sitting up on the bed, waving Keith’s complains away and soon he’s standing on wobbly legs, body pressed against Keith, “Put on a song, let's pretend to dance round the room.”
“Lance.” Keith says in disapproval, frowning in concern but his hands find their place on Lance’s waist automatically, holding the brunet up.
Lance smiles knowingly, “Put on a song, let's pretend to dance round the room.”
“Jesus.” Keith mumbles before smiling back, rolling his eyes but starting to move around gently, “The things you make me do, dumbass.”
“I love you too.”
Keith’s lost his hearing earlier in the battle. He can only feel and see; his vision is filled with smoke and fire, his touch is hot and cold at the same time, something slimy and wet covering his entire hands.
The Red Paladin sucks in a breath and coughs up a tick later, groaning at the copper taste in his mouth as he spits out the extra blood on it.
Keith winces as he shifts his pose on the ground, resigning himself to fall limp against it and pulls Lance’s body closer to him, placing the brunet’s head comfortably against the crook of his arm and chest.
“It’s okay, sunshine.” Keith whispers hoarsely, “It’s okay, I got you.”
He suppresses the sob in his mouth as he gets no answer.
Keith’s not stupid. Their moment was coming, they all knew this. Their daily battle had to come to an end and with it their lives. Keith has always been aware of this fact, ever since they first form Voltron so many years ago.
He just always expected Lance to cradle his dead body, not the other way around.
Keith lets out a shaky break before sighing brokenly, stroking Lance’s dirty brown hair back, his helmet long gone.
“It’s okay.” Keith repeats, eyes fluttering tiredly, “It’s okay, ae-in. I got you.”
There are just screams around; pain and suffering echoing in the battle field and Keith’s heart breaks because he doesn’t want this to be the last thing Lance hears. He doesn’t want to be the last thing he hears.
Doing his best to clear his throat, Keith sighs brokenly before opening his mouth, “U-Um.” He cracks, sniffling loudly, “T-Thirty-five hours have gone by s-since your last b-breath,” He starts, his voice hoarse and so broken but he keeps going, through the tears, through the snot, because his Lance deserves the best. He rocks them back and forth on the floor as he keeps humming, waiting for the next verse.
“Memories of d-dancing with you a-are all I have l-left.” A sob escapes from his mouth, his mind flashing all those memories of Lance’s bright smile and his laugh, his carefree personality and bright blue alive eyes, “Just a f-few seconds b-before it's my time t-to go.”
‘Just a few more seconds’, Keith repeats in his head, gulping heavily as he suddenly feels tired. He lets his head fall against Lance’s, nuzzling the brunet’s face tenderly.
One, two, three beats, and Keith’s so close he can almost hear Lance’s voice finishing the song along with him, “Hello my god and my love at last I am home.”
One, two, three seconds in silence and then –
“There you are, amor!”
There he is.

Sick Day
Because @azure-mirror is a sick child and likes fluffy klance.
It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence for someone on board the castle ship to sneeze and learn that they were allergic to some weird alien product. Pidge had discovered within the first week on board that she would break out in hives if she used Altean shampoo, which was resolved by landing on a planet and buying a year’s supply of different shampoo. Hunk discovered that Coran’s mustache wax made him itchy if he came into contact with it.
But when Keith sneezed seven times in a row and then proceeded to hack his lungs out for a solid minute, everyone whipped around in surprise.
“What are you allergic to?” Hunk groaned in exasperation. Every time they discovered a paladin was allergic to something (or Allura, for that matter, who had learned that Earth’s cotton did not agree with her skin after a mishap with the laundry), they had to take extra precautions to keeping it away from said paladin.
Keith moaned miserably and plopped his head into his hands, resting his elbows on his knees. “I don’t know,” he grumbled, staring at the ground like it had personally offended him. “I’m not even near anything unusual.”
“Seriously?” Lance managed to laugh. “Dude, that was so not an allergic reaction.”
Keith shot Lance a suspicious look. “What?”
“Have you ever been sick?” Pidge asked, a small smile forming at the corners of her lips.
Keith groaned again and sank back in his seat, thumping his head against the chair. “You’re kidding me,” he muttered, pressing his hands to his face and then proceeding to sneeze three more times. “I never get sick!”
Shiro rolled his eyes and moved over to Keith, pressing his human hand against his forehead tentatively. “You’re definitely running a fever,” he confirmed. “Come on, you’re going to bed.”
Allura, standing at the control panel, pressed her lips together. “How long do Earth illnesses typically last?” she questioned. “I don’t mean to be insensitive, but we cannot go too long without Voltron.”
Lance stood up and made his way over to help Shiro with Keith’s weary form. “They’re usually pretty quick,” he mused, giving Keith a once over. “If it’s just a cold, it should pass in a day or two.”
At the incredulous looks from the others, Lance offered a shrug. “I have six brothers and sisters. I know what sickness looks like. And honestly, I’m probably the least likely one to get sick from Mr. Germs here, so I should probably deal with his sick butt.”
“It’s true,” Hunk piped up. “I’ve known Lance for three years and he’s never been sick once, even when I came down with the flu.”
Shiro reluctantly handed Keith over to Lance, who slung the Red Paladin’s arm around his shoulders despite his protests. “Don’t worry, Keith my man. I’ll have you better in no time!”
They trudged out of the room, Keith throwing a desperate look over his shoulder at the other paladin’s and mouthing out “Help me.”
“Think he’ll kill him?” Pidge mused, crossing her ankles and watching the two leave.
Shiro shrugged in response, shooting her a grin. “That, or he’ll become delirious. Keith is…interesting when he’s sick, to say the least.”
A wicked smile crossed Pidge’s face. “Oh, this’ll be good.”
Lance managed to get Keith to his room with no problems, though he was worried about how hot Keith had gotten in the amount of time it had taken them to get there. He was roasting when Lance got him seated on his bed, face pink and breathing raspy. “Probably more than a cold,” he muttered, helping Keith pull off his weapons. “I hope it’s not some alien cold.”
Keith snorted and dropped his head back into his hands, body shuddering. “I feel like shit,” he said to the floor.
Lance winced and stepped back, setting Keith’s knife on the bedside table. “Can you get your shoes off, so you can nap?”
Keith squinted down at the offending boots and leaned over, fingers shaking as he unlaced the left one and struggled to pull it off. He didn’t know what was wrong with him; he had felt fine a mere hour ago. He was starting to think Lance might be right about the alien cold, because no Earth illness had ever hit him this hard or fast.
He didn’t realize he had been shaking so badly until Lance’s hands covered his, forcing them to stop. Lance hissed. “Dude, you’re freezing!”
Keith didn’t feel cold. He felt like the room was inside of a volcano, like Lance’s hands were icebergs, and like his throat was going to melt. “S-Sorry.”
Lance looked up at him in concern and, to Keith’s humiliation, continued unlacing his boot for him. He decided not to protest, mostly because he was worried that Lance might yell at him and wow his head hurt, so he leaned against his hands again and zoned out, the room going dark around him.
He came to seconds later to find Lance with both hands on his shoulders, pressing him back onto the bed. His feet were strangely light, and when he lifted one, he found that it was bootless and sockless. He wrinkled his nose. “You took my socks off?”
Lance rolled his eyes. “Yes, stupid. Your feet and your neck are what warm you up fastest when you’re cold, and what cool you down fastest when you’re hot. You’re at a weird in between right now. Plus, I’ve touched grosser things than your dumb socks.”
Keith huffed and flopped down against the pillow. Bad idea.
The entire room swum at the sudden movement and he groaned, hands flying to his mouth and body clenching. Lance, almost like he was reading his mind, whirled around- too fast- and spun back with his trash can, holding it at the side of the bed and pulling at Keith’s arm. The paladin twisted in the bed and promptly puked into the bucket, eyes stinging with tears and body shivering violently.
“Jesus,” he could hear Lance whisper, a cold hand running across his back. “This is…way worse than a cold. I’m gonna go get Coran, okay Keith?”
Keith whimpered, much to his humiliation, but he nodded, the room swirling again. Lance pressed the trash can into his hands until he had a firm grip on it, promised he would be back, and then left Keith alone, his footsteps pounding their way into Keith’s head and causing a serious migraine.
By the time Lance got back, Keith was leaning against the wall behind his bed with the bucket sitting between his legs, hair damp across his forehead and body shaking. Coran winced at the sight of him and gave him a once over.
“Keith?” the man tried softly. “Can you tell me how you feel?”
“D-Dizzy,” he managed to choke out. “I’m…really hot, too. Or cold. I don’t…I don’t know.”
“This isn’t a normal Earth cold,” Lance said. “I’d say the flu, but none of us have had it recently. Is there an alien illness that resembles this?”
Coran tugged on his mustache and nodded. “Yes…I do believe that this is our version of a cold, though I’ve never seen it interact with an Earthling. We call it the Elsin Disease. Typically passes in a day or two, but it really hits hard when you have it. Most important thing is to keep him warm and hydrated.”
Keith frowned, blinking feverishly at the man. “But I’m hot.”
Coran shook his head. “You feel that way, but your body temperature is lower than usual. At least, I presume it is. We have a thermometer around here somewhere, I’ll go find it.”
“Thanks Coran.”
The older man left and Lance delicately took the bucket from Keith’s shaking hands. “Will you be okay alone for a second?” he asked softly. “I’m just gonna clean this out and get you some water.”
Keith internally shrieked in embarrassment as his lower lip quivered. “Y-You don’t h-have to clean it, L-Lance.”
Lance cursed and pushed Keith back down onto the bed, pulling his blankets up to Keith’s shoulders. “Dude, your lips are turning blue. Stay there,” he ordered, voice firm. “I’ll be back in a minute, okay?”
Keith gave him a single nod, all he could manage without throwing up again, and passed out the moment Lance left the room. When he came to again, the bucket was next to the bed, freshly cleaned, along with a tall glass of water that looked like heaven in space. Lance sat curled up in the corner, a throw blanket pulled up to his chest and his cheek on his shoulder, snoring softly.
Keith gave a small smile and grabbed for the glass of water as carefully as possible. His fingers shook as he lifted it- why was it so heavy? - and the glass promptly shattered against the floor. Lance jolted awake as Keith frantically got out of bed, struggling to clean it up and cutting his hands in the process.
“Whoa, whoa, dude!” Lance yelped, sliding over and pulling Keith’s hands away. “Hey. Man, it’s okay. Breathe. I got it.”
Keith quivered and sank backwards against the bed, pressing his hands to his forehead and curling his fingers into his hair. He felt so emotional, and he decided then and there that he would take the Earth’s flu over this space bug. “I’m s-sorry, Lance.”
Lance looked up from the floor with wide eyes. “What? Dude, it’s fine. It’s just a glass of water.”
“N-No, I-I mean you’re…you’re b-being so nice right now, and I’m j-just always a j-jerk.”
He didn’t know if he was stammering because he was crying or because of how cold he was, but he realized with a start that he was wearing only his boxers and a t-shirt, and his cheeks flushed in embarrassment.
Lance just stared at him, his eyes flickering up to Keith’s forehead after a moment. He winced. “Dude, you have blood all over you. Come on, I’ll call Pidge to come clean up the glass.”
He took Keith by the elbow and Keith recoiled to find that his skin was now ice cold and Lance’s felt like fire. Lance pulled back and led him to the bathroom carefully, pressing what looked like a communicator- where had he gotten that? - on the side of his ear. “Pidge? Can you bring a broom to Keith’s room? A glass broke…thanks Pidge.”
Lance leaned over to turn on the sink faucet and Keith frowned. “What is that?”
The Blue Paladin glanced up in surprise. “What, this?” he asked, pointing to his ear. “Allura gave it to me so I wouldn’t have to leave you alone unless it was absolutely necessary. You almost choked, dude.”
Keith felt dizzy all of a sudden and then Lance was there, hands on his arms and guiding him to sit down on the edge of the tub, eyes concerned. “I almost ch-choked?”
Lance grimaced and rubbed a hand over his jaw. “Yeah. When I left to get water, and then came back…it’s kinda gross, I don’t know if you want me to describe it.”
Keith’s stomach rolled and he decided that no, he did not want Lance to describe his near death. He shook his head slowly and Lance squeezed his arms, turning back around to dunk a washrag into the warm running water that was slowly fogging up the bottom of the mirror. He knelt again, nearly between Keith’s knees, and lifted a hand to swipe the blood from Keith’s forehead. His tongue stuck from the corner of his mouth as he did so, and Keith, in his delirium, found that he kind of wanted to poke it. He clasped his shaking hands together in his lap and shut his eyes firmly, struggling to breathe normally.
“Keith?”
Careful hands hovered over his, slender fingers curling around his wrists and pulling his palms apart. Warm water slid over the cut on his right hand and Keith hissed, fighting back tears and nausea. Lance paused for a moment, giving him time to recover, and then repeated the movement, picking out a shard of glass that Keith hadn’t even felt there before.
His head spun and he blanked again, coming to when Lance’s now freezing hands cupped either side of his head. “Hey, man,” he whispered, his voice incredibly low, like he knew that Keith’s head felt like a cavern of echoing noises. “Pidge is done cleaning up, and Hunk made you some soup. Can you eat?”
Keith’s stomach turned again and he shuddered at the thought of eating, despite the warmth that filled him at the idea of Hunk making food for him. “Thanks,” he croaked. “B-But I c-can’t.”
Lance nodded knowingly and slid his hands down to Keith’s biceps, gently pulling him off the tub. Keith realized with a start that his right hand had been bandaged; he hadn’t even felt that happen. He stayed quiet as Lance led him back to his room and into his bed, taking the steaming bowl of soup from the nightstand and leaning into the hall, saying something to who Keith assumed was Hunk.
He returned empty handed and Keith felt a flood of guilt at having turned down Hunk’s kindness. He shivered against the bed sheets, fingers clenching in the blankets so hard that his knuckles turned white, and Lance cursed. “Your lips are turning blue again,” he muttered, looking towards the door. “I can get Shiro to bring you more blank-”
“Lance.”
He glanced up at Keith, who looked beyond lost and tired, at his outstretched hand, and Lance instantly moved over to the bed and knelt, tugging the covers up a little more against the chill of the room. “What’s up, buddy?”
Keith swallowed, sure that his face was beet red. “C-Can you…um…I…”
He shivered again and held open the blanket just enough for Lance to get the hint, body turning into ice at the movement. Lance’s face filled with surprise but he nodded, kicking his shoes off and setting the ear piece down next to the bed before crawling in alongside Keith, his back to the wall. “Which side?” he asked softly, very aware that putting his hands in the wrong spot might make Keith puke again.
Keith trembled and pulled him down without a word, latching onto him and pressing his face into the crook of his neck, body slowly relaxing against Lance. Though startled, Lance obediently curled an arm over Keith’s hip, careful about how fast he moved, and tucked his other arm up in between their chests. “Let me know if you get too hot, or need to throw up, okay man?”
Keith mumbled something incoherent into Lance’s shoulder and Lance couldn’t help but smile, leaning his temple against the top of Keith’s head and stroking his upper back with his thumb. He dozed a little, waking up every time Keith shifted.
At one point, Allura popped her head in, looking concerned, and Lance lifted his gaze to her and gave her a reassuring nod. The Princess smiled, a twinkle in her eyes, and backed out of the room after leaving a fresh glass of water on the table top.
When Keith woke up again, feeling somewhat less like death, Lance had fallen asleep completely, face relaxed and arms entwined around Keith’s body. The Red Paladin swallowed hard, staring down at Lance with so much embarrassment that he thought his face would burst into flames. He didn’t remember asking Lance to sleep with him, but he knew that Lance wouldn’t do something like that without permission.
Keith groaned internally and lifted a hand to press it to his forehead, eyes alighting on his bandaged palm. He gave a faint smile and looked back at Lance fondly. With little hesitation, he wrapped his arm back around him and tucked his face into his chest, taking a shuddering breath.
“Thank you,” he mumbled, not really expecting a response.
Lance’s fingers twitched against his back and Keith jumped at the response that was whispered into his hair. “Any time.”
Keith blushed and tugged Lance closer, ignoring how warm he was in favor of breathing in the smell of laundry detergent that permeated from Lance’s shirt, lulling him back to sleep.
And when Lance came down with the same illness barely a week later, Keith was absolutely at his side with a bucket and a glass of water.

How to Rock an Apron (Part 2) - A Klance High School AU
I was hoping to finish this up in 2 parts, but alas, the words started getting away from me yet again.  i decided to break it up and post this part in celebration of S2 (there are no spoilers though, so you’re safe).  You can find part 1 HERE.  There will be one more part after this, and it’s almost finished, so yay!  Thanks again to the friends who cheered this on while it was happening.
The hell of it was, the bastard was right.  It was unfair - really, really unfair Keith's poor beleaguered sanity interjected - how attractive Lance managed to make the same apron every other student was wearing look.  The same criminally pink shade that made the rest of them look ill somehow complimented Lance's hair and skin and made them look luminous.  The cut that didn't work on anyone else made his shoulders broader, his waist thinner, and his legs longer - something about the lines it created suggested bendy to Keith's brain, but Keith suspected his brain was a filthy pervert.
He should look just as ridiculous as the rest of them - and in a way he did - but the way he owned it the way other kids tried to do and failed utterly took the absurdity and flipped it on its head and left Lance looking stupidly hot.  The combination of his brazenness and the frills and his dirty grin and his ridiculous fucking face somehow added up to an overall look that was somewhere between adorable and filthy hot to the point of obscenity.
The things Keith had imagined doing to Lance in that apron, on top of that apron, using that apron as a prop, would haunt him for the rest of his life.  Or until his dick fell off from over-handling.
Of course there was no way he was actually telling Lance any of that.  He was horny and pathetic not suicidal, thank you.  Although there was something in the air between them, something pregnant and pulsing, a tension that felt delicious in its pressure but so close to popping Keith didn't know if there was anything they could do to maintain it.  He really didn't want to anyway.  He raised a gently mocking eyebrow.  "Strangely, you have found a way to make it work for you."
Grinning, Lance fluttered his eyelashes outrageously.  "Of course I do."  He smoothed his hands over the stretch of the apron over his hips.  "I'm the prettiest princess in all the land."
He said that without an ounce of shame, or humor, or anything else that indicated it was supposed to be a joke or something.  Keith seriously fucking loved that about him.  Lance legitimately did not care about how "masculine" he was or if others perceived him as feminine. Their second week of school, some dumb jock had thought he'd come up with a real zinger when he told Lance, "only girls take Home Ec dude, you a girl now or something, Sanchez?" and Lance had just looked at him and said, "and if I am?  You say that like it's something to be embarrassed about.  I dare you to tell my mom or one of my sisters they should be ashamed of being female."  Keith thought that might have been the moment he got in so deep.
So yeah, it was stupid hot that Lance was comfortable wearing girl things and calling himself a pretty princess and it not really meaning anything other than that he liked those things - but it was also stupid fucking brave of him too, and that might be what really did it for Keith.  Either way, it gave him the courage not to laugh or play it off either.  He hummed thoughtfully.  "Huh, you might just be," he muttered like he hadn't been thinking that Lance was the prettiest boy he'd ever seen on a pretty much daily basis for months.
The bubble of whatever between them popped - it was clear as day on Lance's face.  Heat chased shock through his expression and he ducked his head a little like he was suddenly shy.  "Yeah, you think so?"  His voice was rough, like the words had been dumped into a blender with a pound of gravel yet somehow still fragile and hopeful.
In a flash the inevitability of this moment exploded in Keith's brain in a shower of electric sparks.  The saying went that you saw your life flash before your eyes before you died, and this wasn't a near death experience, and it wasn't his whole life, but Keith was definitely seeing still images like bursts of memory superimposed on this moment, a replay of everything that had led him here.
Like he'd been asked to make a timeline, Keith relived their first argument in the hallway, Lance's opening volley in their prank war, the escalation of their stupid rivalry, and the moment when Vice Principal Iverson had caught them both red-handed trying to pull off separate pranks at the same time in the teacher's lounge and arguing over who got there first.
They'd of course been immediately hauled to the office and subjected to a diatribe on their lack of discipline, but Keith couldn't remember any of the words Iverson had snarled.  It was the ghost of the self-satisfied smile Lance had flashed at Keith every time Iverson looked away the crept through Keith's brain now.  Followed by the stunned look of horror that had replaced it when the VP had dropped the bombshell that they would both have to attend a detention hour for their last period for the entire year.
No amount of pleading had been able to convince Iverson to change his mind about that and Keith remembered the apologetic look the guidance councilor had worn when informing the two of them that rearranging their schedules to accommodate the punishment meant the only elective available to them was Home Ec if they wanted to fit in all the requirements for graduation.
The images kept coming, so many overwhelming him: the first time he'd put on this ridiculous apron; the first time he'd seen lance in his; the day he realized sewing was a piece of cake, cooking he could do passably well, but baking was simply out of the question; the look on Shiro's face when he'd suggested Keith ask Lance for help with this cupcake assignment so he didn't fail (since Lance was inexplicably good at baking for some reason); the way Lance hadn't reacted like it was weird at all when Keith had caved and took Shiro's advice; the look of faint amusement on their teacher's face when they'd asked to borrow the classroom kitchen after school.
All of it was a clear path from that first moment to this one and Keith could see now that they had always been heading here.  The two of them were a runaway train headed for the bridge that was out - and there was no way they weren't gonna go over that cliff.  Once they'd set that first wheel in motion there was no getting off this track.  Keith could blame Iverson, or Shiro, or himself, or his hormones, or anyone else he wanted - but the truth of the matter was that fate was really the one to blame. They were destined to tumble over this edge together, go out in a blaze of glory - egging each other on the whole time.
Knowing that made it easy - so fucking easy - to take a step, get in Lance's space, crowd him against the counter and cage him in, bracing his hands on the table, one on either side of Lance's hips.  "Mhmm."  he leaned forward and whispered the rest straight into Lance's ear.  "I think you're the prettiest thing I've ever seen."
A fine tremor rolled up Lance's spine.  They were still close enough that it had their bodies just barely brushing against each other in interesting ways.  He sucked in a stilted breath that sounded like he only vaguely remembered how to do that breathing thing.  "I wanted you the first second I saw you," he blurted.
Keith pulled back enough to look at Lance, dying inside at how edible the faint blush staining the bridge of his nose made him look.  He raised an eyebrow.  "Oh yeah?"
Lance bit his lip and nodded, flushing darker.  "And then hated myself immediately.  Fingerless gloves.  Popped collar.  Mullet.  All things one should not have to list when describing their crush."
Keith just stared at him.  "You hung an eight foot poster in the gym before the first student assembly.  Of yourself.  Dabbing."  He gave Lance a pointed look.  "You think I'm not questioning my life choices constantly?"
That cocky little smirk of Lance's that seemed to exist just to test Keith's grip on his self control made a reappearance at that.  Lance leaned back against the counter and tipped his chin up.  "Yeah?  You come up with any answers yet?"
Keith leaned in closer, enough that all it would take to press their lips together would be one of them tilting their head a little.  He offered his own smug smirk.  "Is this a multiple choice question?"
Lance laughed, breath puffing against Keith's lips.  "A) I'm a powerful warlock that has cast a spell on you, causing you to become enchanted with me.  B) You're just really into delightfully tacky shit - as evidenced by your wardrobe.  C) This was Iverson's plan all along because he figured if we were too busy hitting on each other then we couldn't have time to keep our prank war going.  or D) This was always going to happen and even though it's insane and probably very ill-advised we should just go with it and crash and burn together."
Keith smiled and dared to move his hands from the table to Lance's hips, heart beating wild and fast against his ribs.  "You forgot a few."
Lance raised an eyebrow and lifted his hands, curling them into the fabric of Keith's t-shirt just above his waist.  "Enlighten me."
Was flirting supposed to be this much fun?  Was it supposed to feel this much like what they used to do when they were "rivals?"  Keith's blood sang with the thrill of competition, the hind-brain desire to prove his strength and cunning to a potential mate.  It was heady, and arousing, and addictive - but most of all it was just really, really fun.  He rubbed his thumbs absently over the ridge of Lance's hipbones, noting the way every part of Lance he'd touched so far seemed to fit perfectly in his hands.  "E) This was Iverson's plan all along, but it's going to backfire because the two of us teaming up will cause him far more hell than we ever could have separately.  And F) all of the above."
Lance curled his fingers tighter around the fabric of Keith's shirt, bunching it up so that his knuckles just barely grazed Keith's skin.  He smiled when Keith shivered at the light contact.  "You have a final answer, or do you need to phone a friend?"
A hundred witty responses pushed themselves to the forefront of Keith's brain, but he realized that the two of them could probably keep this game going forever if they wanted to.  And... Lance was touching him, skin on skin and they were damn near pressed together, they were close enough that Keith could kiss him if he wanted to (spoiler alert: he very much wanted to).  So why in the fuck would he worry about keeping this lively back and forth going when what he should really be trying to do was end it as quickly as possible in favor of trying to get his mouth on Lance's?  He snorted and answered, "All of the above."
Rolling his eyes, Lance whispered, "it's always 'all of the above,'" before surging forward and kissing Keith

shit. SHIT- ITS ENDING-- fuCK??? nnoOO AAAhhffkpkdslk im yelLING, i love!!! your klance so much man!!!! did i ever?? tell u how much i love the prophecy u made up for the work because,, if i havent,, you really need to know that i genuinely goddamn loved it. the story is soo good tho i LOVE pjo aus nd i esp, ESPECIALLY love ur au of it like oooof owowofneodje YO. y o- im so sorry that this is a mess but bbbro, bro- when ur story is gone im gonna cry but im also gonna b happy that u finished it
(sorry for the late reply, i’ve been busy and didn’t havn’t had time to sit down and write this) Dude ur gonna make me cry jhgsdajf. I’m so glad i’ve gotten such a positive response on this fic because i can easily say that this is the hardest i’ve ever worked on any writing ever so to see that people like u are liking it and don’t want it to end means so much.
Yeah, i’m really sad it’s ending because i’ve worked so hard on it and i will totally miss the versions of lance and keith i’ve made (i love them so much and i’ve worked so hard on their characters with the whole biggest fear thing. Even though they are voltrons characters and this is a fan fic, i feel like i’ve made them my own and put lots of time into them). but at the same time i’m so happy i get to write this last chapter because i’ve planed it for so long and it’s probably the most planned out out of any other scene or part of this fic. it’s gonna be EPIC.
Also, i’ll let u in on a secret. i may be doing a sequal to this fic ;) i’ve just gotten so attached to this story and these characters and agjfah. i’m trying to decide if i should put Keith’s backstory in this chapter or if i should base the sequal on it, man idk. if i do do a sequal, i’m not gonna write it right after this one ends bc 1) as you’ve seen from my late uploads, i’ve been super busy and 2) i have some other fic ideas i’ve been building and i only like doing 1 project at a time. there is a good chance i’ll do a sequal tho. i’ll make my decision when i post the final chapter of this fic.
Sorry i’m ranting i just love this fic so much and i actually die whenever i get nice comments about it so thank u so so so much for sending this!!! Be ready for next chapter bc everything will fall into place and the prophecy (that i loved making btw) will make sense.
