A Toy Gun, A Snapchat Post, And An Arrest
This was all pushed out by social media prior to’" the shooting, stated Hart Brown, former chief operating officer at Firestorm Solutions, which helps faculties monitor social media for potential violence. Given that actuality, faculties nationwide have turned to retailers like Facebook and Twitter for clues. But some, together with Zach, see the follow as imperfect. His story illustrates the problem schools face in figuring out true threats in a digital realm that provides unparalleled entry to students’ ideas and concepts, however the place intentions are steadily unclear. The rising sophistication of tools utilized by colleges to monitor and reply to students’ on-line conduct has only raised the stakes. In some instances, punishing students for on-line speech has cost districts a whole lot of 1000's of dollars in legal settlements. But faculties have additionally faced lawsuits for doing too little to guard students from online hurt, or for figuring out about a possible risk and never reporting it. "School districts are very cognizant that there are authorized points on each sides, nearly a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t state of affairs," stated Amelia Vance, director of the Education Privacy Project at the way forward for Privacy Forum.
Shooters today, the boring ones at the very least, have given us enemies who only present impression by well being bars. They absorb injury until they decide to die. They occupy combat areas that pull us ahead due to the promise of extra XP or leveling up. Too many shooters lately are about engineering fun by the psychology of the Skinner Box moderately than by fun play. A foul shooter is like a bowl of low-cost ramen, or the product of a hammer used without goal. A very good shooter, however, is like an important bowl of savory ramen, or a house built by a master carpenter. This year, I obtained to dive back into video games like Halo, Bulletstorm, F.E.A.R., Shadow Warrior, and Rage, all wonderful shooters, and i received to take a look at a ton of great new ones, like Betrayer, Wolfenstein: The new Order, Titanfall, and Destiny. Sure, these games have their weaknesses-name me a recreation that doesn't-but in all of them, movement and shooting is sublime. So hey, if you're on the market wishing you had shooters extra attention-grabbing than the new Borderlands, give them a shot. You'll have a blast. GB Burford is a contract journalist and indie game developer who just can't get sufficient of exploring why games work. You possibly can reach him on Twitter at @ForgetAmnesia or on his weblog. You'll be able to support him and even recommend video games to write about over at his Patreon.

Worried parents had been calling, and officials thought of locking down the varsity. Zach was suspended for the day for disrupting the academic process, and police arrested him for breach of peace, a misdemeanor. A school administrator made him delete the Snapchat post from his telephone. Officials known as his mother, GraceAnne Cassidento, who drove home to let the police inside the house, where they performed a search and confiscated his collection of three airsoft guns for more than every week. Zach mentioned college officials behaved rashly. He believes that if they'd merely Googled the model title on the aspect of the gun, APS Conception, they could have prevented a scenario he characterized as a huge misunderstanding. Zach defined to school officials that the Orbi Gun was only a toy, but he suspects they seen the manufacturer’s inscription, "Have a pleasant day," as a cryptic menace. James Connelly, till lately the interim superintendent of Amity Regional School District No. 5, declined to comment instantly on Zach’s case.

Tumblr media
 9:27am
“Hello,” Daniel rubbed his dreary eyes with the back of his hand, holding his phone between his ear and shoulder tightly as he lifted an energetic Kobe up to his chest.
“Hi Daniel, it’s me, Victoria.”
Daniel took a second to recall who this person was. Victoria, he whispered to himself, finally remembering that she was one of Y/n’s work friends. A smile smeared across his lips slowly, and his eyes lit up with a small glimmer of hope that Y/n would just be at work, and she’d be safe...and warm...and okay. “Oh, hey! You work with Y/n, right? Is she at work right now?” He asked, trying to tone down the sudden excitement laced in his voice.
“Actually, that’s why I called. She didn’t come to the office yesterday, or today.” Her voice was quiet, and despite only hearing her voice through the phone, Daniel could sense her worry. He tried to ignore the pit in his stomach.
“W-what? No, no. There’s no way.” He stammered. “She went to work yesterday.” He clenched his jaw tightly.
“No, she didn’t...Look, I just wanted to ask, next time you talk to her, can you tell her I called?”
Daniel nodded. He didn’t have the guts to tell Victoria he hadn’t seen Y/n in more than a day and he simply let out a “yeah.” in reply.
“I’m just a little worried is all.”
“Yeah,” Daniel nodded again, “I’ll tell her.”
“Great, thank you Daniel. She’s lucky to have you.”
He didn’t even try to mutter out a steady reply before hanging up the phone. He tapped on Y/n’s number and waited impatiently as the phone rang, ultimately going to voicemail after a few long seconds. Daniel didn’t know what to do with himself. With the new information he’d just been told he tried to piece together where Y/n might’ve gone but...nothing. His mind went blank, and he shamed himself for it quietly as he paced the living room. Christian’s door opened rather silently and padded from his bedroom to the kitchen, catching a glimpse of his brother.
“Hey, Daniel.” Daniel looked over his shoulder. “What’s up?” He took a shaky deep breath before speaking. “Y/n’s missing.” “What?” “She’s gone. I haven’t seen her since yesterday and her co-worker called me, and she wasn’t at work yesterday or today and I literally have no idea where she could be. What should I do?” Daniel rushed out, scaring himself even more as stared at his older brother, awaiting his reply. The two boys shared identical panic-stricken faces.
“Do you wanna call the police?” Christian asked gingerly.
Daniel chucked humourlessly. “Y-you don’t think she’s actually in danger, right?” He answered the question himself. “No, no. Sh- she wouldn-” “Look, we should call them just in case, just to make sure.” Christian assured, walking back towards his bedroom to retrieve his phone.
Daniel stopped in front of him and walked backwards, closer to the front door. “No, I can find her. I will find her. Don’t call!” Christian barely had time to at least compromise with his younger brother before the door slammed with a loud thud. Daniel was rushing out towards his car with his keys laced in his fingers and untied sneakers nearly slipping off his feet
The studio came into view as Daniel took his usual right turn - almost speeding - towards the contemporary style building. He knew it was far away from Y/n’s workplace, which was where he planned to drive next, but he always needed his best friends. Especially today.
The automatic door gaped open as he rushed into the studio, running down the corridor that was lined with multiple studio rehearsal rooms. Daniel’s eyes flickered towards the window to look at his bandmates around their microphones and instruments. He swung the door open.
“Hey,” Daniel started, lifting his gaze to his friends sitting on the mini sofas around the sound board. “Guys?” The overlap of voices that lingered in the room and the background plucking and strumming and playing of instruments sent him into overwhelm. “Everybody shut up!” Daniel hardly ever yelled, but when he did, it was more etched with stress than anger and the rise in his tone startled the boys working in the studio. They looked over their shoulders to peer at Daniel, who had a hopeless frown on his face and eyes shimmering with tears. “Daniel? Hey, we missed you this morning.” Corbyn chuckled gently, placed his guitar down to lean on a nearby chair and walked towards the doorway.
Daniel stayed still, suddenly the reality of it all settled right there. “We need to go find her.” They boys knew what Daniel was talking about and they all exchanged concerned glances with each other before turning back to the fearful boy in front of them.
“Like now. We need to go now, come on!” He gestured to his car outside.
“Okay,” Jonah said, getting up as he grabbed his car keys. It took a little convincing from their management and other members of their team, but the boys did ultimately get permission to leave rehearsal early. The boys all followed Daniel’s request and headed out of the studio. Since Daniel was basically brimming with worry, Jonah suggested he should drive as they looked for Y/n.
The car of concerned boys wandered the streets and roads with furrowed brows and narrowed eyes, peering out in hope that Y/n would be found. Daniel raked a quick hand through his hair. “God. I hope we find her,” Daniel melted further into his chair tiredly. “Can you drive faster?” he breathed. He knew Jonah couldn’t, but panic was running high, and he had no idea what to do with himself.
Daniel’s gaze drifted out the window, and he kept his chin in his palm as he thought for a moment. “We gotta go to the beach.” Daniel said, glancing towards Jonah in the driver’s seat beside him. “Y/n loves the beach.” Despite the long car ride so far, the boys didn’t argue with him one bit. They all knew first-hand what it was like to feel that heart wrenching fear and concern that emerged when texts or calls go unanswered. Of course they all loved Y/n dearly, but they could’ve never imagined just how terrible Daniel was feeling.
Daniel was right about Y/n. She was at the beach; a place she appreciated devotedly and always went when she wasn’t feeling like herself. The beach looked dozy as it rested in the afternoon glow. Y/n always liked it that way, where the rich blue surface rose and fell easily or where the sun illuminated the clouds with thin streams of light. Y/n ambled along the sandy shore, slowly at first. Hesitant. She took agile steps towards the sea that ebbed ever so gently beneath her feet.
The band got to the beach not long after. Jonah stealthily parked the car on the edge of the curb. They had no idea where Y/n was yet, let alone that she had plunged deeper into the freezing water. And Y/n, was utterly clueless to the boys that were on the razor’s edge of panic only a few metres away from her.
The coldness of the water stung her skin, futile compared to the sting of melancholy in her heart. The sea was like an icebreaker to her, and from there Y/n found it easier to wade across the water despite its aggressive waves pushing her towards the shore again and again.
Daniel leaned his arms on the front of the car and leaned over to look for her from his spot on the pier. He was casting his eyes warily, straining to any sounds with eyes and ears.
“She’s over there!” Corbyn called after hearing her feeble sobs from across the beach. He pulled at Daniel’s shirt so they could run over to her together. Daniel’s whole body shot up at Corbyn’s words but before he could even stumble out any words, the little, slightly blurred image of Y/n knee deep in the water made his blood run cold and he felt a wave of...something rush over him. Corbyn, Daniel and Jonah called Y/n’s name profusely as they clambered down to the beach towards Y/n. Jack and Zach lingered near the shore, shaken and scared.
“Y/n!” Daniel yelled, wading through the relentless water as fast as he could to get to her. “Y/n! Baby?! Come here!”
Sorrowful body-shaking sobs racked Y/n’s body, weakened by her walking, each coming in a wave, and she let out soft whimpers. There was no doubt that Daniel was crying too. He let his tears roll down his face and drop into the water as he got closer to Y/n.
“Hey, hey, hey...” He repeated quietly, finally able to get a hold of her. Y/n clung onto him limply and Daniel wrapped his arms around her, as sure as the sun shining down on them. Y/n couldn’t focus on much. The overwhelming hovering birds orbiting around her or the splashing of water against her skin filled her cloudy mind. “I’m sorry!” Y/n sobbed, “I’m so-sorry!” her sorrowful apologies infused with the crashing waves and surging tide. “I thought it would make me happy, Dani. I didn’t make me happy…. I-it didn’t make me happy she repeated.
“It’s okay, it’s okay.” Daniel repeated. “You’re okay,”
Y/n’s voice was thick with tears and Daniel tried his best to wipe them away. Corbyn and Jonah were right at her side too. Their hands hovered over her back and arms just in case her or Daniel needed that extra help. They all walked towards the shoreline silently.
---
The car ride was silent. Y/n was cuddled up comfortably in a cocoon of Daniel’s sweater, Corbyn’s jacket and a small blanket that Jonah found in his trunk - tending to Y/n was a team effort - and despite scaring the boys to death, she was glad to feel the sense of warmth and love that mingled with their wary supervision. Particularly Daniel. And she felt awful that she made him feel the way he did. She kept her gaze out of the window and let her mind drift to thoughts of sleeping in his warm bed when they’d get home. The security and cosiness of it all was comforting and she let her cool face lean against the glass to warm under the sun that cascaded down through the car windows.
No matter how hard he tried not to, Daniel couldn’t stop blaming himself for what had happened that afternoon, barely an hour ago. He sat stiffly in the driver’s seat, his knuckles white from the cold water and the lingering glint of panic present in his eyes. The roads shimmered in the midday sun and the city buildings stood tall, piercing the blue sky as they sparkled in the distance. The faraway horizon was a feast for the eyes, but Daniel didn’t care. The world was all a blur to him, and the only view his eyes would focus on was the one right in the seat beside him.
When they arrived back at his place, Daniel noticed Christian through the front window as he parked the car. He was standing right near the foyer with Kobe held securely in his arms. Daniel smiled to himself and glimpsed towards Y/n before he hopped out of his side of the car. As he walked around to her side, Y/n let her eyes linger on his figure trudging across the front of the car, particularly his tired, red eyes, either from crying or lack of sleep. She gazed at him as he opened her door.
Daniel pressed a hand to her back with his hands gently holding hers as she stepped out. Y/n sighed tiredly as her feet hit the ground and she felt his protective hands upon her rosy cheeks, “You alright?”
Y/n nodded. He pressed a kiss to the same spot without a word and let his forehead rest against hers.
“Y/n,” Christian breathed as they walked through the door, guiding the clueless dog away from her as he scrambled around her excitedly. His paws tapped lightly on the wooden floors and Y/n dropped her gaze at the gentle sound, pulling a smile towards the wide eyed puppy that hadn’t seen her in a couple days. She looked back at Christian. “Hey, Chris.” She spoke gently. Daniel kept his hand placed behind her back and he shared concerned glances with his older brother.
“We should get you to bed now, Y/n.” Daniel whispered gently, linking his arm in hers as they walked to his bedroom.
“Have a good sleep, my love, okay?”
Y/n nodded. “Okay,” she held out her hand to hold Daniel’s, and he placed it lazily over hers, bending down to press a kiss to her hair as she kissed his knuckles gently. “M’kay, I love you.” He threaded his fingers through a strand of her hair before pulling away. “I’ll just be in the living room.” He assured her.
---
3:32pm
“Here you go,” Daniel turned around to Y/n, “your pancakes...or what I call, little bits of happiness.” Daniel beamed towards her the best he could and placed the plate on the tabletop.
“You think I could get about a thousand of those right now?” She joked. “The...happiness, I mean.” She let a gentle smile tug at the corners of her lips as she spoke. It was a small smile, but a real one.
“There’s my girl,” Daniel whispered. He rested his forearms on the counter and leaned in closer to dust his thumb over her cheek. “There’s my happy girl…” His quiet voice wavered between them and he finally let the tears in his baby blue eyes drop onto the counter.
Y/n’s heart virtually broke as she watched him cry and sniffle silently. She dropped her fork and cupped his face in her hands. “No, no, Daniel...” Y/n’s voice lowered in sadness and with best efforts, she tried to continue steadily for both their sakes. “I’m okay, I’m okay, really.” She rushed out, lifting Daniel’s limp chin upwards to meet her eyes.
“Why did you do that?”
Daniel’s strong words echoed inside her like a ripple of guitar strings. She thought for a moment, dropping her hands back to her plate of pancakes. “I don’t know...I don’t know what I was thinking.” Daniel didn’t answer. Her genuine response didn’t seem to heal the intense, aching hurt that lingered in his heart from the hours before.
Y/n sighed before continuing, “I’m...I-I feel like I’m being pulled into different directions...I can’t deal with it all! I’m just getting overwhelmed with school and work..,and you’re always busy,”
“I knew it. This was all my fault.” Daniel sighed, lifting his hands up in front of his face.
“No, no. It’s not, none of it is. You are the sweetest, kindest guy I know and it’s not your fault I did...that,” Y/n said quickly.
“We-were you trying to…” Daniel pressed his fingers to the nape of his nose before his tears could fall again. He took a shaky inhale before continuing, but Y/n did it for him.
“No, I wasn’t…trying to hurt myself.” She said honestly. “I just need a break from…”
“Us?” Daniel asked quietly.
“No,” she said strongly, meeting his gaze with a subtle smile. “I need you more than anything right now. I just...need a break from work, and maybe school.”
“Okay,” Daniel’s eyes misted over again as he spoke. “Don’t ever feel like you need to hide things from me, okay? I love you. And when you need to talk and I say I’m busy and all that, you let me know that you need to talk, okay? We can talk whenever you want.”
“Okay,” She muttered with a smile.
Daniel lifted her chin up to look at him. “I know this won’t all go away, but it’s a start.”
“Yeah, it’s a start.”

Catch up with Chapter 12
**
The boys had no clue about your plan. Frankly, no one knew what your plan was. You weren’t trying to be secretive, no, you just didn’t want all the fuss. One week was more than enough time to host someone in your home. Two weeks was outlandish. You would simply tell them later in the week that you were staying in Boston for an additional week. On your own.
You had rented a one bedroom apartment in the city near the harbor. Chris had been putting a lot of extra effort into your relationship recently by coming to stay with you every few weeks. You wanted to see if Boston was a place you could see yourself spending a lot of time in. Staying with Scott or Chris for the second week wouldn’t really allow for you to see if you could be comfortable there by yourself. You wanted to check out the coffee shops, parks, and small eateries. You had read through numerous travel sites and blogs by locals who boasted the neighborhoods that were not only hip, but had low crime rates.
Chris had gone back to Massachusetts from his latest visit just over a week ago and you had already begun to miss him. When he sent you a text three days after leaving, telling you he was missing you, you instantly felt relieved. The two of you had spent a lot of time talking on his visits which ultimately brought you closer. He slept in your bed all three days of this last trip, never pressing for more than a cuddle and a few kisses. Chris spent a great amount of time talking with you into the early morning hours about how it would be when he was away filming. The two of you would need to survive on Skype or Facetime as he was often away for months at a time. He said that you could visit him on set, but your time together would be limited.
The additional week in Boston was born from the vacation time you had to use or lose with the Orlando Sentinel. Asia was quick to agree that your start date with News Now could begin a few days after you returned from your trip. Having the ability to work from anywhere was a huge positive. Your lease would be coming up for renewal in February and you were honestly struggling with staying or leaving Orlando.
Central Florida had been your home for sixteen years, but you were still only renting. That had to mean something. You didn’t miss the long winters of Minnesota, but you did miss your family. Minnesota felt safe and comfortable for a place to start over again, but you still weren’t sure that was the right step for you. Logically, it was too soon to move to Boston. You were never the girl to move somewhere for a guy. Chris was one of the people closest to you, but the two of you were barely a couple. But why the hell was your heart telling you to give it a shot? At least you had a couple of months to figure it all out.
**
You had swung by Krispy Kreme on the way to Jana’s office armed with a coupon for half off a dozen. Not that you needed a dozen donuts, but a deal was a deal. That’s how you’d always been. You weren’t one of those coupon clippers, but you always shopped on sale and always looked in the clearance section. If there was a bargain to be had, you were a willing participant. This is why even looking at places to rent for the long term in Boston frightened you. Sticker shock was an understatement. You could buy a new, large family home in the suburbs of Minneapolis for the same price you could purchase a studio apartment in Boston. Technically, you could look outside of the city, but that’s something you’d have to think about later when a decision needed to be made.
“I brought food,” you greeted her, shoving the box in her face as she signed you in to the building.
“That’s not food.”
“You can eat it Jana. I’m pretty sure Brooks consumes these five days a week.”
“Fine. Maybe just one,” she replied, reaching into the box and pulling out a glazed one once you got to her office. You gave her a satisfied smirk before grabbing one for yourself. “You ready to work with Brooks again?”
“Is one ever ready? But seriously, I didn’t exactly work with him when he was at the paper so even now I still won’t see him,” you shrugged, taking a huge bite and promptly licking your fingers to Jana’s dismay.
“When are you starting again?”
“Like the twenty eighth. Some time that week. I’m going to try to have something to submit that week. Maybe about my time in Boston. Who knows?”
“You call me the workaholic, yet you’re working on vacation,” Jana said.
“Well, I’m nervous as shit, so I just want to be ready to go with something.”
With promises of dinner together when you returned, you left her office with the box of donuts in hand. Rather than heading straight for the elevator, you decided to stop by Ethan’s office. His door was open, but he was engrossed in a law book.
“Hey,” you called out loud enough for him to hear you but soft enough not to startle him.
He looked up, grinning when he saw it was you. “How are you?”
“Good. I’ve come to tempt you with sugar,” you said holding up the box.
“No bribing needed. Whaddaya got?”
“A little bit of everything,” you said, stepping into the room and placing the box on the desk. You opened it for him to pick. He quickly pulled out one of the custard filled ones, moaning at the taste.
“Thank you,” he murmured, mouth still full.
You gave him an honest smile. Speaking to him the last time you were in the office really got rid of that tension about seeing him.
“You’re welcome.”
“What are you up to?” he asked.
“How much time do you have?” you asked.
“For you? As much as you need.” He gestured to one of the empty chairs in front of his desk.
You told him about the new job and how much you were looking forward to the change. You left out the part about possibly moving since nothing was set in stone, so there was no need to get into that.
“I’m sorry Y/N,” he started, you giving him a questioning look. “When I said that stupid thing about your job. 100% didn’t mean it. I was just angry and I aimed low. You’re a great writer. I read everything you wrote when we were together, and I still read it today.”
You gave him a small smile. “Thanks for saying that. And you still read it?” you asked surprisingly.
“Got to get my Disney news from a reliable source,” he shrugs.
**
Boston’s weather seems to be all over the place with predictions for the next two weeks being anywhere from the fifties to the low seventies. You packed a large suitcase and your trusty leather carryon with a few sweaters, sweatshirts, t-shirts, jeans, leggings and a couple pairs of short boots. You’ll wear your sneakers to the airport. At least that’s one less thing to pack. You’re staying with Scott and Zach, but you toy over bringing your cute yet flirty pajamas and lingerie. You and Chris aren’t exclusive, at least not technically. He told you he isn’t seeing anyone else and isn’t planning on either. But the words boyfriend and girlfriend or partner haven’t been uttered. Taking a guess, he’s most likely waiting for you to say it since he doesn’t want to push you. You’re not even sure how much you’ll be seeing him this trip. He said he’ll be around, but never made actual plans with you. Picking up your cell, you shot him a text.
Y/N: When am I seeing you in Boston.
Chris: All the time?
The fact that he adds that question mark makes you laugh.
Y/N: Well, we never made plans, so I wasn’t sure if you have stuff going on all week.
Chris: You’re such a dork. You’re coming to my town and you have to question when you’re going to see me?
Y/N: I thought it was Scott’s town, you know, since I’m staying with him.
Chris: What?!
Chris: That’s not fair. You didn’t even give me the chance to offer 😔
Y/N: My poor baby. I’ll be sure to kiss it all better.
Chris: You better
Yep, you were packing the cute underwear.
**
You sent Scott a text as soon as you landed.
Scott: On my way. White BMW.
Grabbing your bag from the conveyer belt, you grabbed a coffee before going out to short term parking where he said he’d meet you. The temperature was a cool sixty-three degrees, so you were dressed in a cozy hunter green sweater, jeans, and browns boots. You thought about throwing on a jacket, but figured the boys would tease you. Minnesota you would have teased you, but you’d been in Florida too long now. Sixty was cold.
Crossing over to the ramp, you looked around for a white BMW as instructed. A sudden honk jolted you, causing coffee to spurt out through the cup’s cover.
“Mother fucker!” you whispered to yourself.
The offending driver jumped out of the car, jogging toward you. “Shit! Sorry!” It was Chris rather than Scott. NASA hat on his head, Pats sweatshirt, and jeans. The epitome of casual, yet it he looked good.
When does he not look good?
“You scared the shit out of me,” you said, dropping your carryon to the ground and hugging him with your free hand. “I should be smacking you rather than hugging you.”
“M’sorry. Wanted to surprise you,” he said pulling away.
You kissed the pout on his lips, Chris smiling as soon you pulled back. He bent down grabbing your bag from the ground and then grabbed the handle on your suitcase. You followed behind him, admiring the view.
He really is America’s Ass.
The drive to Scott’s didn’t take long. He had a large two-bedroom condo in the city. Parking was a challenge, but Scott had purchased a second spot a year ago and since Zach wasn’t’ home, Chris parked there.
He grabbed your two bags while you easily toted your purse and now empty coffee cup into the building’s entrance and up the elevator. Chris walked in without knocking, but you supposed Scott knew you were coming since you did text him when you landed.
“I brought you a gift!” Chris called out.
Scott walked into the entry and living room giving you a big smile. “Oh. Is there a return policy?”
“You are such a brat!” you spat out. “Does your mother have room at her place? Feel like I’d getting a warmer welcome there.”
“Sassy, don’t give me no lip. You know I love you,” Scott said, pulling you into a hug. You let your arms hang to give him that bit of attitude, plus you still had your purse and cup in hand.
“Ahuh, love you too,” you replied.
Scott showed you to your room for the week while Chris followed behind, setting your bags on the floor. Light blue walls with dark wood furniture made up the room. A queen size bed placed in the center with a chest of drawers sat on the opposite wall. A relatively large flat screen TV mounted to the wall above the chest. On each side of the bed were a matching set of night stands. A vase of white daisies sat on the right-hand side.
“Bathroom is across the hall. Dinner is at six. Don’t be late. No fucking in your room,” he said, pointing between you and Chris, closing the door as he left. “Or at least be quiet about it,” he said through the door.
Chris looked at you with raised eyebrows while you shook your head. “Uh, we don’t have to,” he said.
“Well, definitely not now.”
“Yeah. Yeah, totally. That’s just Scott,” Chris said, shrugging. He was nervous and it made you smile.
Chris stayed for dinner but left around eight kissing you breathless before wishing you a goodnight.
**
Scott, Zach and yourself hit the road early starting with the Freedom Trail, making sure to see the graves of Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Paul Revere before stopping at the Old State House. Chris had wanted to join the three of you, but when you mentioned he would draw in a crowd being that you would be surrounded by tourists, he was quick to change his mind.
Scott brought you to Beacon Hill where you fell in love with the architecture of the beautiful brick homes. When he told you the average price, you choked on your breath, quickly deciding it wasn’t anywhere you would be able to live.
You moved on to Charles Street, stopping in a few shops to buy something for Jana as well as yourself. When it was time for lunch, Scott and Zach brought you to Cheers bar on Beacon Hill. Scott told you there actually two locations, this one was used for the exterior shots for the show. It was everything you imagined it would be. You were too young to enjoy the show when it aired originally, but picked up on the reruns when you were in your late twenties.
Harvard University was as grand and as beautiful as you imagined it would be bathed in the gorgeousness that is fall. You treated to the boys to ice cream, finding a nice spot on a grassy lawn filled with students and tourists alike. Scott took a few pictures of you with ice cream cone in hand and red and orange leaves all around you. You did the same for each of them. The spontaneous photoshoot turned into a leaf fight as Zach dumped a large handful on Scott’s head.
**
Nervous seemed like such an inadequate word to describe how you were feeling. You weren’t even a nail biter but you couldn’t keep your thumb out of your mouth as you chewed the corner repeatedly.
“Would you stop it? You’ve met her,” Scott said, taking his eyes off the road briefly to look at you.
“Yeah and she thought I was some floozy.” Scott snorted. “Do people still say floozy?”
“I’m pretty sure they don’t. And you know that’s because she didn’t know you were you. It’ll be fine. She loves you. I talk about you all the time. Well, not all the time, but I talk about you and she loves you.” You took a deep breath. “Now keep that finger out of your mouth. She will judge you for jagged fingernails.”
“Such a brat,” you said softly.
“Me? Do I need to have Chris take you and all your luggage back to his place tonight? Why’d you pack so much anyway? Must’ve packed like three winter coats or somethin’.”
“Shuddup,” you murmured. You’d only been in town for four nights and weren’t planning on having this conversation until Friday. “Was going to tell you later, but might as well tell you now. But do not tell Chris. I will tell him later,” you warned.
“Sounds serious,” he said.
“You know how with this new job I can pretty much work from where ever I’d like?” Scott nodded his head. “I’m still trying to figure that all out. Not that I don’t love Florida. Jana and Brooks are my family there, but I’m thinking it might be time to make a change. I thought about Minnesota since my parents and brother are there, but I also wanted to see how I’d like Boston.”
“What are you gettin’ at Y/N?”
“I’m staying in town next week. I rented an apartment to see if I feel comfortable here.”
Scott let out a low whistle. “Chris is going to be pissed,” he sing-songed the last word.
“You think?” you asked.
“Oh yeah.”
“Like pissed because I’ve thought about maybe splitting my time here or moving here?”
“Oh god, no. He’d probably love the fuck out of that. He’s going to be pissed you aren’t staying with him.”
You didn’t even think of that. The idea of having your own space to see if you’d like being here was still the right decision, but he was right. Chris would probably be upset you didn’t tell him what you were thinking. And he’d probably be mad you weren’t staying with him.
“Shuddup,” you said again.
**
“Ma! Your favorite son and Sassy are here,” Scott called out after opening the front door to his mother’s house.
“I’m already here,” Chris called from what looked like the kitchen. He walked into the entryway pulling you into a hug. “Missed you.”
“You just saw me at breakfast,” you replied, kissing his lips quickly before anyone else came in the room.
“Still missed you.” He interlaced your fingers and pulled you toward the kitchen. “Cah’mon.”
Lisa, the boy’s mother was in front of the stove, a few pans sizzling on the burners. It smelled delicious, so you knew you were in for a good meal.
“Y/N, it’s nice to see you again. How are you enjoying your stay?” she said turning to face you.
It was all so formal, you instantly jumped into interview mode.
“It’s been quite wonderful. Scott’s been a great host,” you replied.
She smiled warmly and went back to her pans.
“When are the girls getting here?” Scott asked.
“Should be here soon. Why don’t the three of you show Y/N around?”
Chris gave you the tour while Scott plopped himself on the sofa in the family room.
“And this was my room,” he said, opening the door. It was set up as a guestroom with a full-size bed pressed against the center of the far wall.
“So, is this where the Sandra Bullock poster used to hang?” you said pointing at the ceiling.
“Et tu, Brute? Never going to live that down.” Chis said, shaking his head.
“Oh, everyone does it babe. I’m pretty sure I had a couple of NSYNC pictures torn from magazines hanging on my walls. I know I had one of Joey Lawrence.”
“Joey Lawrence?” he chuckled.
“He looked good in Blossom when I was a kid. He had great hair.”
“Yeah? What do you think of my hair?”
You ran your fingers through his hair, giving the end a slight tug. “This hair?” you said softly, your face close to his. “This hair, I can’t get enough of. Probably the sexiest head I’ve seen in a week.”
“A week? You runnin’ your fingers through someone else’s hair?” he asked, his breath hot against your lips.
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
He pressed his lips against yours. Arms instantly tugging you closer while you kept one hand in his hair and the other around his neck. Kissing Chris would never get old. He walked backwards until his legs hit the edge of the mattress, lowering himself down and pulling you onto his lap. You wrapped your arms around his neck, his hands instantly going to your ass as he pulled you to straddle him closer. A moan broke from your throat, catching you off guard.
“That’s it baby,” Chris whispered, lips attaching themselves to your jaw.
Instantly you were reminded that you were indeed in his mother’s house. The same mother who thought you were just a hook up when she first met. You sighed, loosening your grip from around his neck. Chris continued to kiss across your jaw and down your neck.
“We’re in your mother’s house babe,” you said.
“And?” he muttered into your neck.
“And, she probably wouldn’t appreciate this going on in her guestroom.”
He pulled back a bit, finding your lips and placing a kiss there. “I beg to differ, but I suppose this isn’t how you want to meet my sisters.”
“Nope,” you said, popping the p. You crawled off his lap and a ran a hand through your hair. It was a good thing that you only had on lip balm, because surely had it been lipstick it would have been a mess on your face. You tugged at your sweater, making sure the neck was straightened before turning back to Chris and smiling. “Why don’t I spend the night at that construction zone you’re calling a house tomorrow night?”
“Really?” he asked, eager smile on his face.
“Yes, really.” You’d tell Chris tomorrow about your extended stay. It would just be the two of you tomorrow, so it would be easier to talk to him about your thoughts on possibly moving. You hoped he’d be honest with his feelings on it as well.
The two of you made your way back to the family room, immediately spying Chris’ sisters. Scott told you tonight’s dinner would just be the siblings as his mom wanted to keep it small and casual as they got to know you. Saturday would have the whole Evans’ clan in attendance for a potluck type lunch.
“Nice of you two to finally join us,” Chris greeted Carly and Shanna.
“We’re on time, you’re just always early,” Shanna said.
“Wait until you have kids. You’ll see how long it takes to get out of the house,” Carly spat.
“Anyway. This is my girlfriend Y/N. Y/N, these are my sisters Carly and Shanna.”
Whoa. Girlfriend. I guess he’s saying it first.
You felt your face heat up, but you quickly extended your hand to Carly first who pulled you into a hug and then passed you to Shanna who did the same.
“Great to meet the often talked about Sassy,” Shanna said with a giggle.
“Oh boy. Hopefully only good things,” you replied.
“Maybe. Siblings never rat each other out, so we simply can’t say,” Carly added shrugging her shoulders.
“You know damn well, no one is saying anything bad about you Sassy. It’s  Chris that needs to worry,” Scott said. Shanna instantly nodding in agreement.
“Let’s get a drink!” Carly said, putting her arm around your shoulder and dragging you to the kitchen.
With beers in hand, the five of you went back into the family, sandwiching between Chris and Shanna on the couch. A few minutes later Lisa came and joined you. “Dinner in ten minutes kids,” she said, squishing next to Scott on a large oversized chair.
“Sounds good, Ma,” Chris said.
“What are you kids talking about?”
“We were just getting ready to interrogate Y/N,” Carly said, giving you a wink.
“No, we most certainly were not,” Chris said, putting his arm around you and pulling you close.
You chuckled lightly, patting his thigh with your hand. “Babe, it’s fine.” You pulled away and looked at each of the three women. “What would you like to know?”
“Dinner’s almost ready, why don’t we wait until we sit down?” Lisa offered.
**
With dinner on the table, you readied yourself for an onslaught of questions.
“So, you’re from Florida?” Carly asked.
“Actually, I’m from Minnesota. I moved to Florida for college and just stayed.”
“And you’re a Disney person?” Shanna asked.
“Absolutely,” you smiled. “I worked, well, still work for the Orlando Sentinel covering anything and everything Disney parks. I’m not sure if the guys told you I recently took a different job, but I’ll still be covering some Disney parks’ news.”
“They did. Congratulations Y/N. It sounds like it was a change you were looking to make,” Lisa said.
“It was. I love covering the parks, but I’ve written a lot of current events articles for various magazines and I’d really like to delve into that.”
Chris squeezed your knee pulling your attention to him. He beamed at you, literally beamed. You knew he was happy for you but this told you that he was happy with how this meeting was going.
“Do you have any siblings?” Shanna asked.
“I have one brother and his name is Heath. He’s three years younger than me. And I have a bunch of cousins that are all around our age, so they always felt like siblings growing up.”
“Are you all still close?” Lisa asked.
“My brother and I are, but it gets harder to keep in touch with my cousins as we get older.”
“Have you ever been married?” Shanna inquired.
“Shanna!” Chris hissed.
You looked at Chris and gave him a smile. “It’s fine. No, I’ve never been married nor engaged. I’ve had a couple of long-term relationships, but not in the last few years.”
Shanna smiled, apparently satisfied with your answer.
**
After dinner, you offered to help Lisa with pouring coffee and dishing up the cake she had made.
“Y/N, I just wanted to apologize for that day I met you in Epcot. I didn’t treat you fairly and I honestly feel awful about it.” She turned away from the cake to face you. “Scott has always spoken so highly of you. I truly am sorry that I wasn’t as welcoming as I should have been.” Lisa stepped closer to you, grabbing both of your hands with hers. “Chris hadn’t mentioned that you were the same friend that Scott had told me about. So, when he said he was meeting up with a friend, I was a little annoyed. I thought that this friend was someone that he just had met, so I was disappointed it was taking time away from the kids.” She chuckled softly. “That sounds awful. It’s not that Christopher does that regularly. He never does that.” She took a breath and started again. “Oh boy, I’m probably getting him into trouble with you.” You chuckled at her words and shook your head. “My point is, I’m sorry and I hope we can be friends because you are obviously a very important woman in both my sons’ lives.”
“No hard feeling at all and I hope we can be friends as well.” You leaned forward and wrapped your arms around here. She quickly followed suit, patting your back gently with one hand.
“Are we getting cake or what?” Chris asked, stepping into the room. “Didn’t know I was breaking up a Hallmark moment.”
“Har-har Christopher. Come grab some of these plates,” Lisa said.
Chris stepped close to you, grabbing a plate while you poured another cup of coffee. “Everything okay?”
“Completely,” you said with a smile.
**
“Are you really leaving me for my brother?” Scott asked in his best daytime soap opera voice.
“Well, I’ve seen him naked, so...” you trailed off, shrugging your shoulders.
“All you had to do was ask,” Scott offered.
“I’m sure Zach and Chris would love to hear that.” You patted his head, grabbing your carryon bag from the couch, making sure you had everything for the night. “I’ll be back with you tomorrow night for our best friends sleep over party like we planned. No boys allowed except for you.”
“Damn right! I’ll be sure to stock up on raspberry vodka.”
“No! Only wine. I learned my lesson when you got me drunk.” Scott scoffed, but waved you off. Chris was down stairs circling the block since he couldn’t find a spot to park. “Tell Zach when he gets up from his nap that I’ll see him tomorrow.”
“I will. Have fun and use protection!” Scott yelled out. You promptly flicked him off and shut the door.
**
Chris’ house was beautiful, even if it was being remodeled. The rooms that were currently being redone were the two guestrooms, the office, a guest bathroom, and the deck.
“See, you totally could have stayed here the whole time. Plenty of space for just you and me.”
The two of you were laying on his really comfortable couch. You between his legs and back against his chest. He kissed your neck and you hummed.
“Well, I remember someone telling me his house was practically unlivable. Then Scott offered and who am I to refuse? You’ll just have to have me stay another time.”
“Oh, I will,” he replied, then kissed your neck again.
“Your house is gorgeous. I really love this room and I’m sure this wall of windows out to the deck will look even better when it’s finished.”
“It’s going to be great. Like a second living space. At least that’s what the designer tells me. How are you likin’ Boston?”
You turned to face him slightly, tucking one leg underneath yourself. You licked your lips nervously.
Now or never.
“Actually, I wanted to talk to you about that.”
“Okay, what’s on your mind?”
“Now, don’t get mad,” you started, Chris raising his eyebrows. “That’s not what I mean. Um. Okay, so you know how I mentioned that with this new job, I can spend time here with you or I could spend time with my family and work at the same time?” He nodded his head. “Well, I’m thinking about maybe relocating. I’m not sure what I want to do yet and I don’t need to make a decision right away. My lease isn’t even up until February.”
Chris face lit up, his smile as big as you’ve ever seen it. “What are you saying, Y/N. You movin’ here?”
“Not sure yet, that’s what I’m getting at. I’m staying in Boston another week.”
“You want to stay with me?”
“That’s the thing. I gotta make sure I’m comfortable being here. You’re not always here. Months at a time when you’re filming even. So, I actually rented an apartment for a week to see if I like the area.”
“Sweetheart, you could still stay with me and figure out if this is the place you want to be.”
“I know, but if I did move here, I’d have my own place so I wanted to get the feel of it. I didn’t mention it to you or Scott because I didn’t want you both insisting that I stay with you.” Chris narrowed his eyes at you. “Don’t give me that look. It’s way too early for me to be moving in with you. We both know that.”
“Fine. You’re probably right,” he murmured.
“Maybe I can cook you dinner at my pretend apartment next week,” you offered.
“You better. Don’t think you’re staying a whole ‘nother week and not seeing me almost every day.”
“Babe,” you sighed out. “The whole point of me staying another week is to see if I can get along on my own. If we are hanging out every day, that’s not how life is always going to be.”
“Five days.”
“Two days,” you offered.
“Two days?! Sweetheart…Four days.”
“Three, and that’s my final offer,” you concluded.
“Deal. But that’s you and me time. No Scott.”
“That’s fine by me. But it’s not an all-day deal. I want to try to work.”
“Yes ma’am,” he said, grabbing your face and pulling it to his lips.
“Let’s go to bed,” you said, standing up and pulling him up with your hand. The two of you walked into his room, you slipping into the en suite.
You pulled off your sweater, cami, and jeans, folding them neatly and placing them on the far side of the vanity. You took a deep breath, admiring the see-through black bra and matching panties. You were ready to be intimate with Chris again and you hoped he was feeling the same. Giving yourself one last look, you ran your fingers through your hair and pinched your cheeks. You were feeling confident and you hoped it showed. Taking one more deep breath, you steadied yourself and opened the bathroom door, walking back in the room to Chris who had changed into a t-shirt that he wore with his boxers.
“Sweetheart,” he said with a shaky breath.
“Hi, Chris,” you said, moving closer to him. He sprung to his feet to stand in front of you. Your hands went to his chest, placing both palms on him. “Make love to me.”
It came out more like a statement than a question and you were proud of yourself in that moment. Chris visibly gulped, licking his lips, he nodded. His arms instantly wrapped around you, caging yours to his body.
“Oh sweetheart, I’ve missed you,” he said softly. His lips trailed from yours to your neck, back up to that spot behind your ear that made your knees shake. He walked you to the bed, gently laying you down with him coming to lay beside you. His knee went between your legs opening you up to him. One hand caressed your pussy over your panties as he mouthed your nipple through your bra, causing goosebumps to erupt down your body. “Are you sure?” he asked.
“Yes, god yes. I want you babe,” you moaned as his mouth went to your other breast.
While the first time the two of you were together was fun and full of nervous energy, this time was the two of you truly making love. Chris took his time worshiping your body. It was slow and soft and you knew that it was absolutely right.
**
Lisa’s home was stuffed to capacity, much of the guests spilling into the backyard. It wasn’t just the Evans clan in attendance today. Everyone brought friends who they considered family. The names of everyone you met started to swirl together. The family was easy enough to get down as you met the kids back in May. Carly’s husband, Shanna’s boyfriend, a few cousins, and uncle were added to the list. Chris had a few buddies there as well as Scott that they introduced you to. Everyone was warm and welcoming and you felt at ease as they all seemed to want to get to know you. These were the important people in Chris’ life, so they were important to you as well.
Chris was relaxed which you loved to see. He had a few beers but wasn’t out of control. When you were around each other, he kept a hand on you. On your back. On your side. Around your shoulders. On your cheek. It was sweet and welcome, especially after the night you spent together.
You decided to stick to lemonade during the day, switching to white wine as the day went on. Getting drunk in front of these people wasn’t something you wanted to do even if Scott was trying to make that happen. He’d walk by with a bottle in hand and you’d quickly cover the top of your glass with your hand. It was slumber party night back at Scott’s, one of you had to be responsible enough to drive you home later.
One person you hadn’t even thought of meeting was Courtney. It was foolish of you to forget about her since Scott had told you she had been a long-time friend of the family, not to mention Chris’ on and off girlfriend for years. You wanted to like her and you wanted her to like you. It was such a weird thought to have. She’s Chris’ ex after all. She had been around for his other girlfriends including his longer relationships.
“Y/N, this is Courtney,” Scott introduced.
She gave you a polite smile and a wave which you returned. “The famous Sassy! I’ve seen you on Scott’s Instagram account,” she said.
Okay. This isn’t so bad.
“That would be me. It’s nice to meet you.”
She was prettier in person than she was in pictures. The kind of girl that didn’t need makeup but wore it anyway and it only enhanced her natural beauty. She was dressed casually in jeans and sweater, yet she looked unbelievably put together.
“You in town long?” she asked.
“Another week, then I’m back to the warmth,” you said with a smile.
“Suppose this is quite the change for you. Plus, the Evans family can be quite overwhelming.”
Scott scoffed at that, pushing her shoulder. “Only some of the Evans’ are overwhelming. I’m wonderful.”
You grabbed him around the waist, kissing his shoulder. “You sure are sweetie,” you said sarcastically, earning a laugh from Courtney.
Scott excused himself, leaving you and Courtney to chat. She was nice and sweet and easy to talk to.  You immediately understood why she remained friends with the family when her and Chris broke up the first time. It was still odd in away to be friendly with your boyfriend’s ex, but if everyone else loved her, you needed to give it a shot. Boyfriend. That was another thing. Chris was your boyfriend. You really liked the sound of that.
It was close to seven and Scott was itching to take off. He wanted to order pizza and have a dance party. Zach was staying with Chris for the night so the two of you could have that sleep over. You both had great boyfriends to put up with you. Confiscating Scott’s keys earlier in the day, you went in search of Chris to tell him goodbye.
You found Chris with a few of his friends you had met early in the day along with Courtney standing on the patio outside. Chris was telling a story, animated as ever. His arms flailing about, head tipped back as he laughed at his own joke. You stood back to admire him as he had the group enthralled with whatever tale he was telling. Courtney stepped forward, wrapping an arm around his middle. It seemed innocent at first until she placed a hand on his sweater clad chest, hand trailing lightly. Chris looked down at her hand and then to her face, neither of them noticing you had stepped outside. He lifted her hand from his chest, much to her surprise, and then stepped out of her embrace. “I have a girlfriend,” he said softly, but you still heard it.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know.” Courtney quickly replied.
You wanted to escape without being seen. It definitely felt like a moment you weren’t meant to witness even though you were happy with the outcome. You were mere inches from the patio doors when Scott popped out, calling out your name drawing the attention of the group standing nearby.
“Hey sweetheart,” Chris said, leaving the group and walking up to you, kissing your temple to greet you. You wrapped an arm around his middle and leaned into him. “Are you taking off?”
“M’hmm,” you replied. “Just coming to say goodnight.”
“I’ll walk you out,” he said.
“Hey, Y/N? Can I talk to you for a moment?” Courtney asked. You turned around to see a small frown on her face.
You nodded your head. “Sure.” You squeezed Chris’ hand. “I’ll see you inside,” you said to him.
Courtney followed you further into the backyard, taking a seat on a small bench.
“I’m not sure what you may have seen, but I wanted to apologize. I had my arms around Chris and If I had known he was with someone, I wouldn’t have been as handsy as I just was. That’s not me and I don’t want you to get that impression of me. M’sorry and I hope that you can accept my apology.”
Scott had not introduced you to Courtney as Chris’ girlfriend, so you did believe that she didn’t know and she did seem sincere. You didn’t want things to be weird, especially if you did end up moving here at some point.
“Already forgotten. I’d like for us to be friends, so no hard feelings,” you replied.
“Thank you,” she said, giving you a soft smile.
Both of you stood up, you walking back into the house and Courtney staying outside. Chris intertwined your hand with his, walking both of you out the front door to Scott’s car. He pulled you into a rocking hug, before pulling back, placing both palms on your cheeks and kissing you deeply.
“I’ll see you Monday for our day one of three?” he asked with a grin.
“I’d like that.” You kissed him again before climbing into the driver’s seat of the car. Scott already asleep in the passenger’s seat.
“Oh, Scott,” you said, shaking your head. He was lucky his car had GPS and you had his address.

Steven Universe Alternate Future chapter 6: Why so Blue? (originally published on January 11, 2021)
Author's Note: This is one chapter I've been excited to write. In my opinion, Lapis is my favorite character because aside from having cool powers and being pretty, I also relate to her a lot because I've been through a lot of suffering like her. Though thankfully, I wasn't caught up in warfare, trapped in a mirror for thousands of years, and finally released only to be trapped in a walking, talking abusive relationship under the sea; just some standard bullying by people who love pushing my buttons, being framed for something I obviously didn't do that forced me to drop out of my first high school following first semester of freshman year. But enough about my life story, onto my #1 Gem waifu!
Synopsis: Steven and Lapis try to confront a pair of Lapises that continue terraforming worlds.
Cast:
Zach Callison as Steven
Jennifer Paz as Lapis Lazuli, Mean Lapis, Nice Lapis
Amy Sedaris as Blue Zircon
--
"Thanks for the help Lapis." Steven thanked Lapis Lazuli as they planted some new flowers in his conservatory. "These blue hyacinth flowers really tie the place together."
"You're welcome, Steven," Lapis replied with a smile. "Peridot helped me pick these out from the greenhouse. You know, it's funny. The two of us didn't get along at first, me more than Peridot to be honest, but thanks to you, we're basically inseparable."
"Aw shucks Lapis, was nothing." Steven blushed, just as the communication console nearby began to light up. "Hang on, I think this one's for me."
When Steven turned it on, a particular Gem who he barely got to know greeted him. "Oh hey, you're that Zircon from my trial! How are things?"
"Going pretty good." The defense Zircon answered. "Ever since the other Zircon and I were unbubbled at the start of Era 3, we've left our lawyer days behind in favor of politics. With the Diamonds essentially no longer in power, Homeworld had decided to turn to democracy when the caste system was dissolved."
"It's nice to hear some more good news," Lapis interjected. "but why did you call us?"
"Oh yes, that." Blue Zircon realized before she conjured up a hologram with her monocle. "Rumor has it that despite the caste system's end, there are at least two Gems who continue to terraform regardless of the end of colonization. Last we heard, they were busy remodeling the former Blue Diamond colony Aozul 2."
"Wait, terraform?" Lapis said with surprise at the mention of her old duties. "Are they other Lapis Lazulis by any chance?"
"Yes, that is why I contacted you today." Blue Zircon continued explaining. "Why do you ask?"
"I think I might remember them from when I was a terraformer." Lapis revealed, before she turned to the Warp Pad. "That's why I'm coming with you, Steven."
"Alright then." Steven agreed. "Who knows? Maybe we can get them to come to Little Homeschool."
"I'm not too sure about that, Steven." Lapis nervously replied before they stepped on the Warp Pad and activated it, taking off for Aozul 2.
--
On the other Warp Pad that dropped Steven and Lapis off was Aozul 2, a gorgeous-looking moon orbiting a yellow planet thriving with unique wildlife. Though the pair was amazed by the nature around them, they still had a mission to do.
"Let's not get distracted, this may not take long." Steven said as he stepped off the Pad. "Most Gems come around pretty quickly when I invite them to Little Homeworld in person."
"What a beautiful place." Lapis muttered in awe, distracting her from the strange little native creature they almost stepped on. "Wait!"
Looking down, Steven and Lapis found a cute flower bud-like alien with its petals opened up. "Whoa, thanks for the save Lapis." Steven thanked his blue buddy before kneeling to pet the creature. "Hey, little buddy."
The creature closed its petals in fright and raced into a nearby bush, making more of its kind nervously emerge in front of Steven. "It's okay Flower Buddies." He chuckled at his name for the creatures as they began to crawl all over him, now no longer seeing the boy as a danger. "Haha, whoa now!"
"Wow, Steven, it took you all of five seconds to make a new friend. You must be getting rusty." Lapis commented as she approached the Flower Buddy resting in Steven's arms and began to pet it gently. "You know, I used to never notice creatures like this. Before arriving on Earth, I used to not think twice about terraforming, never taking a moment to appreciate what I was destroying." The Buddy smiled at Lapis and began to open its petals for her as well. "Life is so precious. And these guys remind me of Pumpkin in particular."
The other Buddies began to blossom, only to just as quickly close up their petals as the silhouette of a figure similar to Lapis zoomed over them.
"Uh, Steven?" Lapis brought her friend's attention to the figures flying around and conjuring up water to cause untold chaos upon Aozul 2.
After putting the Flower Buddy down, Steven made his way to the edge of a cliff to get a better look at the pair. From what he could gather, one of the Lapides had her gemstone on her stomach, darker colored skin and hair than the one he knew, the hair was done up in a ponytail, and had gold-colored freckles on her cheeks. The other Lapis had her gem on her shoulder, light azure skin, and medium-blue curly hair.
"So, the rumors were true." Steven wondered as the pair of Lapises continued their path of destruction, laughing all the way.
"You think that Zircon called us because they didn't get your message?" Lapis asked Steven while gazing upon the terraformers' progress.
"I'm sure they did." Steven replied assuredly. "Everyone did, but I'll try and get them to stop."
"This may be harder than you think." Lapis added as her fellow Lazulis flew closer to the pair, using their powers to cut a massive rock in half and terrifying the Flower Buddies.
"Hey, stop!" Steven called to the blue Gems, who reacted to their work's sudden intrusion by preparing to launch a massive tidal wave at the pair. Steven was ready however, and defended himself and Lapis with his shield.
"Wait, that's Steven Universe!" the ponytailed Lapis cried as she grabbed her partner's arm. "And is that who I think it is with him?"
"He's smaller than I thought." The curly-haired Lapis replied when she came to the same realization as her fellow Lazuli. "No way!"
"You guys!" Lapis squealed in delight, causing the other two to cheer happily as well. "Oh my gosh, it's been ages!" she yelled as the two Lapises raced down to hug her. "I haven't seen you two since I was sent down to Earth!"
"Wait, you all know each other?" Steven asked the three terraformers.
"Yeah, we go way back with ol' 3E8C-4XF here." The stomach gem Lapis remarked. "That's her facet and cut, by the way. I'm 2F8D-9ZE, and Curls here is 1J9G-5KL."
"Yeah, the three of us were an unstoppable terraforming trio back in the day." 1J9G-5KL snidely explained with a flip of her hair. "Tearing planets apart, taking names, and looking cool while doing it!"
"But then I was given a solo mission to Earth, which was how I got caught up in the Rebellion, and here we are." Lapis continued for her old friends.
"We're just so glad you're okay!" 2F8D-9ZE exclaimed happily. "So anyway, what do you think? We're just about almost done with this world. Exemplary work, no?"
"And we don't need the extra help." 1J9G-5KL said meanly. "So it was nice catching up, but please, ta-ta."
"Look, we came here because you gotta stop." Steven explained to the Lapides. "The Diamonds don't control you anymore. Didn't you get my message?"
"Yeah, we did." Freckles nodded.
"So, you don't have to terraform for them anymore." Steven continued. "You're free to do whatever you want now! In fact, we want to offer you the chance to come learn at Little Homescho-"
"Oh, so this is all some big misunderstanding?" Freckles interrupted Steven.
"This has got to be a joke." Curls rolled her eyes. "Like, terraforming is what we like to do, and now you're saying we shouldn't do it anymore?!"
"Oh, here we go." Lapis groaned. "1J9G was always pretty passionate about her work."
"You're getting it wrong." Steven tried to ease the tension. "You can do whatever you like! As long as nothing gets destroyed and nobody gets hurt."
"That's not what you said a sec ago!" Curls pointed out. Freckles tried to speak, but Curls shushed her by forcing her mouth shut with a finger. "Are you listening to yourself right now?"
"Why should we stop?" Freckles lowered Curls' finger to ask.
"Because it's wrong!" Lapis answered, becoming irritated with her former partners' behavior.
"Wait, wait, wait." Freckles said, gesturing to the destruction she and Curls caused. "How can what we were made to do suddenly be soo-oo taboo now? At least let us get back to work, we're almost done with Aozul 2 here!"
"Team huddle?" Steven nervously muttered to Lapis.
"Team huddle." Lapis replied, slowly retreating into the cobalt-leafed forest away from the other Lapides. "We'll be back with you in a bit, girlfriends."
--
"You're right. This is harder than usual." Steven said to Lapis as they hid in the bushes.
"You've gotta force them to stop." Lapis suggested while spying on her old friends from the foliage. "This is definitely gonna be a fight. They're not nice like what I became. 1J9G was always the alpha of our little trio, ordering us around and treating lower-ranked Gems like trash. 2F8D, on the other hand was more of the follower, as loyal to 1J9G as a Pearl is to their Diamond. I, on the other hand, was essentially the third wheel, mostly existing to follow along with them."
"So you guys were basically high school mean girls?" Steven compared Lapis's former situation to fiction. "Did any of you play the Gem version of croquet in your spare time, or wear pink on Wednesdays?"
"This is nothing like those movies, Steven." Lapis stated.
"Well maybe like those girls in the movies, they just don't know what they're doing isn't nice." Steven tried to assure his azure friend. "You get it, what made things click for you?"
"A cycle of horrible torture that I came close to repeating myself." Lapis gravely answered, much to Steven's fright. "But also like, living in nature and making meep morps."
"Yeah, that's it!" Steven cheered quietly. "Come on, we can do that for them."
"C'mon, not even a little torture?" Lapis asked while squeezing her hands together.
"No torture, just the other stuff." Steven decided against any lethal force before he and Lapis returned to the water Gems.
--
"Geez, what's taking those two so long?" the Mean Lapis asked impatiently while waiting for Steven and her fellow Lapis to return.
"I'm starting to get wet here." The Nice Lapis added, prompting her curly-haired buddy to turn to her with a raised eyebrow of disbelief. "I'm trying to make it a catchphrase. It depends on the context, in this case, I'm getting bored."
"Well, I urge you not to make that happen." 1J9G commanded, just as Steven and Lapis finally reemerged from the bushes, waving to them while walking backwards. "Oh, look who finally decided to come back."
"Okay, we've come to a decision." Steven declared. "Why don't we show you fun things you can do on Earth other than causing mass destruction?"
"Should we listen to him?" 1J9G asked 2F8D.
"He's only half-Diamond, so maybe we should half-listen to him." 2F8D suggested.
"I'll take that as a yes." Steven answered, trying to hide his eye twitching at being called a mere half-Diamond, before taking the two terraformers into the forest. "Let's go."
--
Once within the extraterrestrial woods, Steven began to show the Lapides around, trying to get them to appreciate the beauty of nature. "It's a beautiful day here. Fresh air, pretty trees, peaceful wildlife. Any life-changing epiphanies yet?"
"It's so bright." 2F8D observed as she gazed directly into the sun.
"No duh, Too-Eff." 1J9G rudely replied while poking on a leaf with a stick. "I only prefer two colors, rocks and mud. Right?"
"Well, I have to admit," 2F8D said as she continued looking at the sun. "that sun is a real pretty shade of-"
"I said, right 2F8D?" 1J9G cut her friend off.
"Uh yeah, rocks and mud!" 2F8D laughed nervously, her pupils rapidly darting around while holding her hands behind her back.
"I understand you don't see the beauty with this, but I know you will with time, girls." Lapis said. "There was a time where I didn't appreciate organic life as well, much like you guys. But I learned of how beautiful it can be. Maybe you can try something like this."
Gazing at the small puddle of mud in front of her, Lapis began to conjure up a strange shape from the wet dirt.
"This is what we call art, or in Lapis's terms, a meep morp." Steven demonstrated. "And it can be made out whatever you want to be, whether it be nature or just random junk you find lying around."
"So you can do whatever you want with your powers," 1J9G asked. "but you choose to make junk."
"It doesn't have to be like that." Lapis answered, continuing to toy with the mud. "You can make anything with a little imagination."
As an example, Lapis shifted the mud to take the form of a lawnchair for Steven to sit on, along with a drink and sunglasses. When Steven drank out of the mud-made cup, he immediately spat it out.
"So lifelike, I almost forgot!" Steven exclaimed in realization as the mud fell apart.
"That's it?" 1J9G muttered with a tilt of her head.
"It's more satisfying than you think it is." Lapis claimed. "Go ahead, give it a shot."
"But what can we make?" 2F8D asked, scratching her chin as she examined the wilderness around them.
"Didn't you listen, dummy?" 1J9G responded while conjuring up some water. "They said we could make anything!"
"Right, anything!" 2F8D said as the two turned the water into the shape of a ball. "I totally knew that."
"That's it!" Lapis cheered for her former friends. "Try making some other shapes, it can be anything you want!"
The Lapides listened as they made the water ball grow spikes before flattening it into a sawblade that they tossed in-between Steven & Lapis, cutting down a mountain behind them in two.
"Wow, you just made our jobs easier!" 1J9G cackled and pointed at the fallen rock behind the two Crystal Gems.
"We'll have this planet cleaned up in no time!" 2F8D agreed with a laugh.
"Steven, this isn't working." Lapis muttered fearfully, prompting Steven to try something else.
"Looks like you two still have some energy to let out." Steven laughed. "Maybe you should try something more physical, like dancing!"
"Dance?" 1J9G wondered while Steven pulled out his phone. "And what is that thing in your hand?"
"Just watch us." Steven stated as he turned on some funky music for he and Lapis to dance to on his phone, as another demonstration to the Lapides. Although 1J9G was unimpressed, she noticed 2F8D starting to get into the groove as she swayed her arms from side to side.
Steven and Lapis took this as a breakthrough and continued dancing to the music, but then their gems started to glow by complete accident. "WHOA!" they exclaimed in unison, stopping their dance to keep the glowing down.
"Almost fused there, Lapis." Steven chuckled.
"Yeah, wouldn't want a repeat of Peridot." Lapis replied.
"Uh, who's Peridot?" 1J9G asked while ordering 2F8D to stop dancing with a mean look.
"Only Lapis's best friend!" Steven exclaimed with a hand on his Lapis's shoulder.
"Yeah, you can meet all types of people on Earth, humans and Gems." Lapis said. "Peridot and I got off on the wrong foot because when we first met, I was basically her hostage in an invasion of Earth." She continued explaining. "But over time, we grew closer thanks to Steven's influence and even had our own home in this little barn, but then due to circumstances I'd rather not get into at the moment, we just kinda drifted apart for a bit. We did eventually get back together, but when Little Homeschool first started, we unfortunately didn't have as much time to enjoy our shared inter-"
Before Lapis could finish, the other Lapises started laughing. "Really, you and a low-class Gem like a Peridot?!" 1J9G guffawed, forcing the primary Lapis to scowl at the pair.
"What's next, an Aquamarine fusing with a Ruby?!" 2F8D let out a loud wheeze.
"Funny story, actually." Steven began, but 1J9G cut him off.
"Look, we don't wanna hear anymore, kid." The Lapis snarked. "We know you want to do what's best for everyone or some stupid stuff like that, but we decided on what's best for us, and that's terraforming." She stated. "Now, please, run along back to your little school before you make me slap your face off."
"Geez, Jay-Nine, no need to threaten him like that." 2F8D tried to convince her pal otherwise.
"He's threatening our way of life, you clod!" 1J9G yelled at 2F8D, who reflexively knelt and cowered. "If you think a little kid like him is right, then why don't you come with them?"
"Gee, 2F8D has real bad taste in friends." Steven whispered to Lapis.
"It's like I said, One-Jay really liked to order us around." Lapis replied. "She also really doesn't like it whenever what she says gets questioned."
"Now, if you'll excuse us 3E8C," 1J9G finally said while turning away from her belligerent friend. "we're gonna go back to work, so no more interruptions."
"Y-yeah, let's get back to it!" 2F8D meekly added.
Ironically, the pair was stopped from flying away when Lapis finally spoke up. "I get it." She said to her old friends. "All this won't make you feel good right away, maybe not even at all. You guys are just afraid of change after thousands of years doing one thing, but they can help you navigates new ways of feeling. If you aren't into dancing, maybe singing would be more your speed."
Lapis prepared to demonstrate, but then she started hesitating for a bit. But thanks to some encouragement from Steven, she worked up the bravery and finally started to sing. "Oooo-ooo-oooh, why so bluuuu-uuuu-uuue? So many shades of sorrow got mixed into my hue." Lapis began. "And each new moment just astounds me, so much I wanna do. I finally feel my colors shining through."
The other Lapides began following their former friend as she gazed into her reflection in a puddle. "I'm tired of the fighting, I'm tired of the blame." Lapis continued as she reminisced on her struggles. "That mirror was a prison, and fusion was the same. What's with these new sensations that suddenly appear?! Deep as the roaring ocean, free as the atmosphere!"
Racing away from the puddle, Lapis excitedly pushed back some leaves to show her ex-partners more of Aozul 2's beauty as her song reached its high point. "Oooo-ooo-oooh, why so bluuuu-uuuu-uuue? So many different reasons, but are they really true?" Lapis began to finish as she knelt to watch the Flower Buddies surrounding her. "I wanna keep on going, wanna be right here with you. I'd love to see your colors shining throoooo-ooough." The Buddy that made its territory in Lapis's lap then blossomed for her. "I'd love to see your colors shining through."
Despite what Steven and Lapis believed the song would do, 1J9G laughed mockingly at her, and 2F8D was ordered to do the same with a poke to the elbow. "You really expect us to dance and sing like we're Pearls?!" 1J9G said derisively. "Look, Steven Universe, you already got 3E8C doing it for you! I mean, did you make her like this, or was she this much of a loser?!"
"You never bothered to ask what I liked back in the day!" Lapis angrily said before her curly-bobbed ex-friend grabbed her by the shirt collar.
"Listen 3E8C," 1J9G commanded Lapis just as angrily. "you and that so-called Diamond are going to leave this planet so we can get back to doing what we want to do, not be reconditioned into following everything you say with a dumb song! End, of, discussion."
"You don't have to be so cruel!" Steven yelled at 1J9G. "And you don't have to be such a horrible friend ei-"
"Did I stutter?" 1J9G continued as she glared daggers at Steven before turning away from him. "Come on 2F8D, let's get back to work."
"Yeah, see ya." 2F8D replied and said farewell to Steven before they flew off. "It was wet seeing you again 3E8C!"
"CONTEXT!" 1J9G yelled.
Steven was just about ready to give up, but Lapis just started angrily as her fellow Lapides got back to terraforming. "That's it!" she declared. "I've had enough of you two!"
"But, you promised we wouldn't fight!" a worried Steven reminded Lapis.
"If we had done this my way, we could've gotten this done way earlier!" Lapis replied before she flew up to her former friends. "Hey girls, that's enough!"
"Oh, look who it is." 1J9G grinned sneakily.
"You finally come to give us a hand?" 2F8D asked.
"You could say that." Lapis smiled before she spawned a pair of water hands from below, and used them to flick 1J9G and 2F8D away.
"Did she just do that?" 2F8D said, recoiling from the attack.
"Yeah, she did." 1J9G replied as she got an idea. "So, you can make hands, huh?" she said as she and her beleaguered partner formed a water hand of their own. "Okay if we try?"
The giant hand slapped Lapis away towards Steven, who summoned his shield to catch her and protect himself from the water. "Lapis," Steven cried. "are you okay?"
"I'm okay, just stay out of this!" Lapis demanded Steven before she flew back up and sprouted another pair of water wings that she turned into fists. "DORARARARARARARARARARARARA!" She yelled while unleashing her fury on 1J9G. "DORA!"
1J9G was thrust out of the sky and almost crashed onto the ground, until 2F8D caught her with a water hand.
"You alright?" 2F8D said sympathetically.
"I'm fine, you big baby." 1J9G growled and rubbed her head just as Lapis tried to restrain the two with chains made of water, but were nimbly dodged. "Water chains?"
"You really need to stop teaching us these wet new things!" 2F8D giggled, invoking another angry glare from 1J9G, before they created chains of their own to restrain Lapis and pin her to the cliff face.
"Lapis!" Steven cried for his Beach Summer Fun Buddy.
"We really gotta hand it to you." 2F8D said. "This new stuff you're showing us isn't actually useless."
Once again, the Lapides created a sawblade. But this time, instead of chopping a mountain in two, they had darker intentions for it. The blade was tossed straight at the seemingly powerless Lapis, and Steven couldn't help but watch.
"OH NO!" Steven yelled. But suddenly, the saw stopped right in front of Lapis's face and was reduced back into droplets as the earth shook around everyone. Water from all around began to surround her, washing over the other terraformers along the way as Lapis formed a massive watery figure wielding a harpoon around her.
"WHO'S DULL NOW?!" Lapis boomed, terrifying 2F8D into hugging 1J9G for protection while Lapis prepared to land the killing blow. "WHO'S PITIFUL NOW?!"
However, when Lapis turned to Steven with a sadistic grin, his disappointed expression made her realize what she's become. After the water figure fell apart, Lapis returned to the cliff's edge in exhaustion.
"You okay?" Steven asked while having one of the Flower Buddies in his arms.
"I'm fine." Lapis answered as the Buddy jumped into her embrace. "Sorry about losing control there."
As the water receded, the Lapides sat there stunned as Steven and Lapis flew down to face them.
"It's over now." Lapis declared to her ex-friends. "No more fighting. Okay?"
"Fine by me." 1J9G said with a smirk.
"Yeah, that was so wet back there!" 2F8D smiled earnestly, with Lapis giving her a confused stare this time.
"And no more terraforming too. Promise?" Lapis suggested.
"Oh, we'll do anything you say now!" 2F8D exclaimed cheerfully.
"After that ridiculous show of strength, we're at your command!" 1J9G added.
"No, that wasn't strength!" Lapis said hotly. "That was weakness! Patience takes strength; restraint takes strength!" Before Lapis could finish, she just decided to stop and walked away. "And I don't have the strength to deal with you anymore."
Before he could follow Lapis, Steven fished some brochures from his jacket pocket that he handed to the Lapides. "Here, have some Little Homeschool brochures. In case you change your mind." He offered before walking off after her.
--
After Steven and Lapis left Aozul 2, 1J9G and 2F8D sat on a rock reading through the brochures Steven gave them. While 2F8D was growing interested in the opportunities Little Homeschool had for her, 1J9G wasn't amused.
"So what, it's not just dancing and singing like Pearls?" 1J9G complained. "We have to do all this other junk too? This totally goes against what we were made for!"
"Yeah, but as Steven said, we can do whatever we want now!" 2F8D exclaimed as she pointed at some of the activities. "Like, gardening, for example! Isn't that wet?"
"Stop trying to make 'wet' happen!" 1J9G yelled. "It's never going to happen!"
After having her attempts at a catchphrase ruined, 2F8D clenched her fist and worked up some courage to tell her so-called friend the truth. "Hey, Little Homeschool also gives us opportunities to make new friends outside of our old castes. And I mean actual friends, not Gems who relentlessly pick on you for the stupidest of things."
"Is this about our bond?" 1J9G growled. "I'm totally your friend! I just have a different way of expressing it!"
"Yeah, well, Steven treats 3E8C with some level of respect and kindness!" 2F8D argued back. "You ever heard of either of those terms before?"
"This isn't funny Two-Eff." 1J9G growled. "We are not going to that stupid school. And you will stick with me, no matter what! End. Of. Discussion!"
However, 1J9G realized a bit too late that 2F8D had already left her, and was already racing to the Warp Pad with one of the Flower Buddies under her arm.
"Sorry One-Jay, but I'm going off to learn how to be nice to people!" 2F8D said rapidly before the Warp Pad took her away from Aozul 2. "OKAY, BYYYYYEEE!"
And so, 1J9G was left utterly alone on the blue-colored moon. Alone and positively furious. As she began angrily chopping down trees with her powers, a black dropship slowly dropped into Aozul's atmosphere.
--
Night fell by the time Steven and Lapis finally returned to Little Homeschool. Still guilty for giving in to her anger, Lapis sat forlornly on the Warp Pad, only for Steven to seat himself next to her.
"I wish I hadn't done that." Lapis moaned. "They just reminded me so much of myself, and how I acted in the past. All high and mighty with no regard for anyone but myself."
"Hey, don't beat yourself up." Steven gave his blue friend a comforting smile. "You've grown a lot since I first broke you out of that mirror, but everything takes time. It's not your fault those two are still stuck in their ways."
As Lapis smiled back, the Warp Pad activated once again. This time, 2F8D stood behind them, and a Flower Buddy peeked from behind her. "Hey, is this that school you were talking about?" 2F8D asked sheepishly. "One-Jay and I had a disagreement, so now I want to learn what real friends are like."
The Flower Buddy stepped up from behind 2F8D and nuzzled itself on Lapis's leg. "I also brought this little guy along as a way of saying sorry." 2F8D continued. "Hope you like him."
"I love him." Lapis said as she picked the Buddy up. "Thanks Zuli."
"Zuli?" the Lapis now known as Zuli asked.
"Yeah, 2F8D might be hard to remember." Lapis explained. "Just came up with that nickname off the top of my head. You like it?"
"I love it!" Zuli cheered. "So, when can I start school?"
"Doesn't matter." Steven answered.
"Yeah, welcome to Earth." Lapis responded.
--
Back on Aozul 2, 1J9G continued terraforming the little moon to vent her stress, leaving a trail of fallen trees and small dirt canyons in her wake.
"I can't believe that freckled clod just ditched me like that!" 1J9G shrieked furiously. "She just fell for that kid's games, and then ran off!" Amid her ranting, the curly-haired Lapis began to cry. "Is this how he gets his sick kicks, just tearing apart friendships like that?! I'm gonna make him pay for stealing my friends when I find him again!"
Just then, some of the trees 1J9G didn't chop down started rustling, frightening her. "Who's there?" she began panicking. "Did you realize you made a huge mistake and come crawling back to me?"
However, 1J9G realized she wasn't talking to 2F8D. Instead, a large, grey hand with a white topaz on the back emerged from the foliage, and reached out for her.
--
Ominous, isn't it?! This was real great to write, especially since as mentioned above, Why so Blue is my favorite episode of Future. Hope you liked how I expanded on the Lapises and their backstory, and are excited for what I got next. Because on the next chapter of Steven Universe: Alternate Future, we aren't moving onto Little Graduation, that's the start of Part 2. Instead, we get onto cut content territory with Rhodonite's backstory at last. In the meantime, I'd really like this series to get mentioned on TV Tropes like my other written works.

You're like the sunshine in the lazy days of June (Jalex one-shot)
Description: Pure self-indulgent fluff because I'm feeling a bit lonely. Jack and Alex are lounging around on the tour bus on a chilly day in June.
Also available here on Wattpad.
Alex's POV
It's June, the start of Summer, which means one day you're outside having a BBQ with your friends, and the next you're wrapped up in a jumper trying to remember what the sun looked like. Today, unfortunately, is the latter.
Yesterday was much the former- we all set up deck chairs outside the bus and had a couple drinks, and thinking it would stay that warm I went to sleep in just my boxers with the covers thrown out into the walkway. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans, and I woke up absolutely freezing, rolling over and pulling the curtain open I found out someone had nicked my covers in the night- I can't really blame them, I definitely would've done the same.
Blowing out a sharp breath to psych myself up I quickly push myself out of the mild warmth of my bunk and tip-toe jog over to the wardrobe, trying not to wake anyone up. Reaching in I grab the first pair of joggers and hoodie I can find, immediately putting them on, relishing the new found warmth.
I tip-toe back to my bunk to grab my phone, unlocking the screen to check the time- 7:00 A.M. I guess it serves me right for being so cocky with my sleeping attire, I decide there's no point going back to bed- I may as well make use of the extra time I have now with something productive. Heading into the front of the bus I make sure the door to the bunks is closed before putting the kettle on and getting out a mug and the stuff for a coffee. I lean against the counter as I wait for the water to boil, looking down I realise it's Jack's hoodie I'm wearing- I pull the neckline up over my nose and breath in his smell, wrapping my arms around myself.
"You're up early" Jack startles me from the doorway, making me jump a foot in the air. He chuckles as I take a couple deep breaths, walking over to me.
"I didn't hear you come in"
"Some of us are a bit quieter when we know people are still sleeping"
"Sorry" I sheepishly mumble, looking up at him and wrapping my arms around his waist.
"I'm only joking 'Lex, I was already half awake anyway, it's too damn cold to sleep" he wrapped his arms around my shoulders, pressing his cold nose to my neck.
I giggle and pull away "Coffee?" I ask. He makes an affirmative noise and goes to sit down on the sofa, clearly still groggy from the lack of sleep.
I pull out a second mug as the kettle boils, making us both coffee and bringing it over to where Jack is sitting; I curl up at his side and he wraps one arm around me, the other holding the mug. We sit in silence for a while, drinking the coffee and adjusting to being awake.
"I didn't ask, why are you up so early?" Jack asks, braking the silence.
"Same as you, too cold" I look up at him, flashing him a smile, then looking back at the half empty mug "I was too hot last night so I threw off my covers, someone must've picked them up because they weren't there this morning." Jack chuckles, pulling me a bit closer into his side and rubbing my arm.
Finishing his coffee Jack sets his mug down on the small table in front of us, I follow suit, taking his now free hand in both of mine. I run my fingers over the callouses on his fingertips, built up over years of playing guitar, tracing every line and contour, completely losing myself in the motions. Jack nuzzles his nose into my hair, resting his cheek on my head, watching me, occasionally kissing the top of my head or closing his fingers around my hand.
It's not long before the rest of the guys start filtering into the kitchen, and then the lounge, flopping down on the couches, and when those are full, grabbing some cushions to sit on on the floor. I scoot over so I'm sat over Jack's lap, body on one side, feet on the other, so there's more room for other people on the couch, but there just isn't enough room for everyone to get a place.
It seems to have been unanimously and silently decided that today will be a non-day, with half the guys nursing a hangover from the night before and the other half feeling lazy we set about what movie to put on first. We take a vote and it only barely wins in favour of a new thriller that just came out- I'm not particularly fussed about what we watch but Jack seemed excited for it so I voted what he chose. Rian, Matt, and a couple of the crew guys groan and start making their way back to the bunks, heads far too pounding from last night to be watching it; the rest of us have a bit of a giggle about it, having taken it easy last night, and rearrange on the sofa so now everyone has a spot.
Jack's POV
A few movies in I started to tune out, I think everyone did- movie days are great in theory but I just don't have the attention span for it. I've been idly playing with Alex's hair instead for the last half hour or so, cherishing how he leans back into me when I scratch in just the right places, kinda like a dog I think to myself, letting out a giggle. Alex gives me a puzzled look, I just shake my head and kiss his forehead, looking back up at the TV to see if I can get back into the film, luckily Zach saves me.
"Right guys, this has been great but I can't watch any more films for like, a week" he says getting up from his spot on the couch, joints popping as he stretches. We all groan at the sound but follow suit, stretching out of the positions we've been sat in for the last who-knows-how-many hours.
My stomach rumbles loudly as I remember I haven't eaten anything yet, and neither has Alex, or, I assume, most of the guys "Who wants pizza?" I ask "I'm thinking about ordering some." At the mention of pizza the few remaining guys who hadn't joined us from the bunks came out, and I grab the laptop from the table while we all start deciding what to get.
One ridiculously large order later we all divvy up the respective pizzas and retreat to our own areas of the bus, having well and truly timed out our social timers for the day. Me and Alex settle into my bunk, sat cross legged on either end, heads slightly ducked to fit in, with the open pizza box set in between us.
We eat the first couple slices in silence, much like the coffee this morning, and then Alex starts off on a story he'd completely forgotten about Rian last night. He sets his pizza slice down, fully engrossed in telling the story, scooting over to my side of the bunk to lie down next to me; I pull the box up onto our laps, one arm around him, the other still going to town on the pizza, laughing along as he finishes up telling me about how Rian shot gun three beers in a row because he just couldn't do it right, spilling most of it down himself.
Uncomfortably full from the greasy pizza, I stand up and take the empty box to the kitchen so we can properly lie down in bed, when I get back Alex has ditched the hoodie and gotten under the covers instead. I take mine off too and scoot in next to him, wrapping him up in my arms.
"Wanna listen to some music?" he half-yawns, half-asks, shifting around to get his phone out of his pocket. I reach up to the little shelf in my bunk and grab my earphones, handing them to Alex.
"Anything specific?" I ask as he plugs them in.
"I didn't have anything in mind, do you?" I shake my head, pressing a kiss to his forehead. He hands me one of the earphones as he puts the other one in his ear. We lie back a bit more and get comfy, becoming a tangle of arms and legs while he hits shuffle on a playlist. I can feel the vibrations of him humming along against my chest, I lie my head back and look at the top of the bunk, encompassed in a shell of warm happiness.
I slowly trail my hand up and down his back as I feel him getting more and more relaxed against me, it's 11:00 P.M now, which is normally still relatively early for us, but having been awake since 7:00 A.M it felt much later, and warranted feeling so tired.
"'S okay if I sleep here tonight?" Alex mumbled, in a way that made me think even if I said no he'd already be asleep by the time I answered "Still dunno where my covers are."
I smiled and peppered the top of his head with kisses "Of course 'Lex."
"Night Jack."
I took the phone out of his pocket and paused the music, trying to put it on charge with the hand that wasn't under his head but giving up and placing it on the shelf instead. Kissing his forehead once more for good measure I settled back and shut my eyes "Night Alex."

CHAPTER TWELVE
Three Weeks Later
“OK, so what is the point of all this again?” Scott leaned in towards Sarah as they started arranging themselves around the coffee table. An assortment of plates and napkins were stacked high in front of them in anticipation of what was currently happening in the kitchen. Alongside sat and open bottle of wine and various pieces of plastic cutlery. Sarah was already dreading the tidying-up.
Shanna had demanded that everyone cancel their plans that Friday so they could devote the evening to testing out the various cakes and desserts she would spend a few days crafting. Sarah had been glad she had worked constantly throughout and had managed to swap a couple of late shifts so she could avoid the battleground and constant swearing emanating from their kitchen. It was almost unrecognisable to her now, a dusting of flour covered pretty much every surface and everything smelled faintly of gingerbread. There were brand new utensils appearing in the dishwasher that she had never seen before. Who knew you could ice cupcakes in so many extravagant ways?
Baking and cooking in general rarely came easy to Shanna, less so without the guidance of a proficient baker such as Lisa who had of course been banned from assisting her that week. Shan just didn’t have the patience for measuring things out so baking would require an almost complete change of personality. Even a late-night call to discuss the basic recipe for a genoise sponge cake wasn’t enough to allow help through the front door.
“It’s for a charity drive, I think? Their regional offices do it every year but I don’t remember it being this taxing.” Sarah shrugged, equally as confused. Usually for Shanna when effort was involved, it meant only one thing: there was a guy she wanted to impress. Sarah couldn’t remember her mentioning anyone in particular of late, though. Then again, they hadn’t been in the same space for too long these days and that thought made her feel sad and uncomfortable.
“Fuck, I ate lunch later today as well. Am I gonna regret this?” Scott asked, sympathising with his full stomach.
“It’s a good job I’m not on a training plan anymore.” Chris walked into the lounge bringing with him a couple of beers, handing them to Sarah and Scott before taking a seat beside her on the couch. “It’s like fuckin’ MasterChef in there.”
“I might trying drinking some more water. Maybe if I pee more it might create extra space.”
“The fuck?” questioned Chris after him as he darted out of the room one last time before Shanna was finished. “I swear sometimes I can’t believe we’re related.”
“I think he thinks the same thing.” replied Sarah, jokingly as she took a swig from her bottle. “Oh wait beer’s filling, isn’t it?”
“Dunno. Probably. So am I gonna see you at all this week or am I gonna have to stalk your Facebook page?”
“Sorry, I’ll...wait, you stalk my Facebook?!”
“No,” he shrugged nonchalantly. “Only sometimes. It helps me remember what you look like.”
“Oh my god...I thought you were gonna be patient?” she asked, softening her stance so as to avoid it coming across as a dispute.
“This is me being patient, Sarah.” He protected. “You’re cute when you’re annoyed with me by the way. Always thought that.”
Sarah teasingly rolled her eyes at him. “I finish at two tomorrow. I guess I could come by after?”
It mystified him why she felt the need to ask. If he had it his way, he would give her a key and tell her he once fantasised about her sneaking into his apartment late at night and fucking him senseless.
He didn’t get the chance to verbally agree as Lisa appeared in the doorway looking slightly shell-shocked and carrying a long white tray in both hands, a tea-towel  thrown over one shoulder. At first, they appeared to chocolate brownies until closer inspection showed it to be a slightly burnt sheet cake with rainbow-coloured icing and decorations. Chris gave her a look of concern not dissimilar to a face he pulls when he wants her help in getting out of something or when he tries to claim Scott is bullying him, but Lisa merely widened her eyes in response. He soon understood why as Shanna followed closely behind with two other plates piled high with cakes and treats. Noticing her struggle, Sarah got up to assist Lisa in placing the tray down on the glass table in front of her and Chris took the sly opportunity to pinch the back of her arm. As she sat back down, she caught him nod once in acceptance of her suggestion.
“Is there any chocolate in this or is it all in your hair?” Chris joshed his sister who clearly had no energy left to scold him with.
“Just...shush, OK? She’s worked very hard and it all smells rather delicious, wouldn’t you say?” asked Lisa trying to rouse some support.
“Oh absolutely!!” replied Sarah, taking the bait and nodding profusely much to Chris’ amusement. “Can we start anywhere or is there a preferred order we have to try out?”
“Which we absolutely can do with this rocky road!” Chris said as he held up a sizeable slab of dark chocolate rocky road and pretended to analyse it, comically squinting his eyes. Regrettable, Shanna hadn’t realised she was supposed to chop the macadamia nuts into smaller pieces so eating a piece of it would likely risk a chipped tooth that evening.
“Chris!” shouted Lisa.
“What?!” he objected. “It’s constructive criticism.”
Shanna simply called him a jackass and tossed a handful of napkins at his face. Chris managed to deflect them before absent-mindedly handing one to Sarah.
Recently, Sarah had thought it odd how they had managed to avoid anyone catching on with that had been happening between them. She thought it so obvious. There were little exchanges here and there that seemed so noticeable such as making her a coffee without asking first, or texting her first to inform them he was coming over instead of Shanna. On one occasion the week previous, Chris had asked her about a work issue but Shanna hadn’t clocked anything. It’s possible it had all just been heightened in Sarah’s own consciousness. Most likely it appeared to be natural, friendly behaviour and there was in fact nothing to worry about. Still, she felt the need to remain vigilant.
Truthfully, they had been together maybe...three times? And one of those was just afternoon drinking after she finished work. He hadn’t pushed her into anything more and she was grateful. He had made it pretty obvious how he was feeling though not necessarily with words per se but with affectations here and there. He had taken to texting her late at night knowing she’d be curled up and getting ready to go to sleep, and then again in the morning to wish her a good day. Sometimes, she wondered if he just generally liked talking to her about nothing in particular. He once snuck a bag of Hershey’s Kisses into the apartment when Shanna wasn’t around and hid them under her bed so she could find them later on. Even thought she cautioned him for taking the risk, she had to admit it was nice. Really nice. He would make a good boyfriend, she thought. He had a big heart and a massive capacity for affection.
She had not stayed over and the benefits of shift changes with little notice meant she could avoid the deplorable concept of lying to her best friend about where she was. For the time being at least. Frankly, Sarah thought she would have given the game away by now such was her ability to resonate blame with physical ease. She figured there would be an accidental comment here or there or perhaps she would leave her phone open on text with Shanna stumbling across it. They had agreed to be as cautious as possible, which was the most obvious decision, but the seamless nature in which their relationship had changed over just the last couple of weeks had been scarily swift and, dare she say it, even easy at times. Chris once joked they must not have been great friends to begin with which didn’t sit well within her so he quickly changed the subject. So, in acknowledgement of her anxiety, he calmed down his seductive looks reaching her across the room, refrained from tucking har out of her face no matter how much he might want to do so, and stopped playfully pinching her on parts of her body when he thought no one was looking. They weren’t looking, why would they, but regardless, it helped make her feel less antsy in his presence and that was what he wanted.
She sat watching the family interact while eating cakes and cookies and the feared rocky road which, unexpectedly, was not as much of a disaster as they had been warned. Scott even asked to take some home for Zach which Shanna took as the biggest compliment of the evening so far, that and Chris managing to keep quiet for a whole ten minutes while enjoying a ginger-flavoured cake-pop. She had followed some recipes carefully, others not so much, but on the whole, it was seriously impressive.
“These are my favourite, I think. You should absolutely make more of these.” Sarah enthused, pointing to the white chocolate and lemon cookies, or what was left of them. “I didn’t think they’d work but they really do!”
“God I’m so glad you said that. They only take minutes to bake and I could make dozens of them for the sale.” Shanna grabbed her iPad and made yet another note. She had perked up in the last hour or so having been faced with some rather reassuring feedback and set about deciding a plan for her contribution towards the sale. Whatever the reason for this sudden burst of creativity, she wasn’t strictly letting on, but it was nice to see her excited about something work-related for a change.
*
There were definite benefits to hanging out at Chris’ apartment. For one, it was peaceful and secluded even when they chose to sit outside on his terrace and bask in the afternoon sunshine. There was no one else to look over the trestle fencing and you’d be forgiven for forgetting he lived in the centre of a busy town. He also owned the most incredible sound system money could buy, that was built into the very fabric of the whole property. No matter where you chose to hang out, it was always felt like there was an enjoyable gentle thrum of music coming every single angle, every single corner of the place, enveloping you and calming you down in equal measure. Oftentimes, the only two places Sarah spent any meaningful time was either in her bedroom or at the hospital so a change of scenery at the very least could only be a positive thing.
His breath had been ghosting over the skin on her neck for a little while and it was making her tingle. “Can I tell you something? But you might think it’s weird...”
“Mmmm?”
“i feel like I’m a teenager again.”
Sarah opened one eye and peered up at him as he leaned on his elbow beside her. “Yeh that is weird.”
He playfully jabbed her side causing her to flinch. “I just mean that it’s like we’re at school and trying to go undetected. Like, hiding out from our friends. It’s kinda fun, right?”
She thought about it for a second, smiling back up at him and his glorious face that was managing to display a look of joy in spite of his busier facial hair. Now wasn’t the time to confess her anxieties about their situation when she had promised herself and him that she would just enjoy the moment for what it was. “Yeh, I know. It’s cute.”
“i just don’t want you feeling like you can’t unwind here. When we are here, when we do get to be alone, I think we should make the most of it.” He implored her again, hoping to hear her agree but he settled for a smile and the back of her hand reaching up to graze the side of his face. “It’s not like we’re here all the time or anything.” He brought her hand round to his mouth and pressed a gentle kiss to her fingertips before lying back down beside her.
They had been lying on his sofa for nearly an hour now, in no particular rush to do anything, just enjoying the peace and quiet. It was warm and sunny outside, the first nice day they’d had in a while, and the windows were open to allow the room to stay pleasantly cool. He ran his hand over her lower tummy and played with the drawstring bow that was currently separating him from where he wanted to be. As much as he liked to make fun of her scrubs from time to time, and that was one thing that had not changed, he was starting to grow accustomed to them in a fond yet strangely sexual way. He wasn’t normally bothered by women in a uniform but there was a first time for everything. He nuzzled in against her neck and left a biting kiss on her earlobe.
“I wanna take you while you’re wearing these.” he murmured, impishly letting go of the elastic waistband so it snapped back onto her skin.
Sarah’s eyes pinged open. She couldn’t tell whether he was being serious or not. As he moved his body to rest over her, she felt his fingers deftly pull on the bow to loosen the waistband and laughed when she saw the mischievous glint in his eyes.
“I cannot believe you just said that,” she giggled, wiping at one of her eyes in embarrassment while he inched her pants down off her hips and made himself comfortable again between her legs. “Are you serious?”
“Well, unless we’re gonna do it in a hospital supply closet, yes.”
“You know that doesn’t happen in real life, right? You’ve watched too much ‘Nurse Jackie’.” She moved her weight onto her shoulders, lifting her ass up to help him remove her trousers completely.
“First, it was ER, and second, why would they say it happens if it didn’t happen? They have medical consultants, right? They have people who advise on these things. It is obviously based on fact.” He smirked at her while helping himself to a smooth caress back up her legs. She couldn’t trust that he wasn’t genuinely upset at the prospect that he might not eventually get to have sex in the hospital. He was hard to read when sex was involved and small ministrations he had made with her suggested she was nowhere near as experienced or confident as he was in that department. This must be like the pillow fight fantasy men have and how it’s just easier to allow them to assume it happens on a regular basis lest the truth invoke spontaneous combustion or something.
He finally rested over her body, propping himself up by his arms either side of her head. He moved strands of hair out of her face and kissed her once and then again. His playful tone clearly belied the thoughts running through his mind and she felt him stiffen between her legs, causing her arousal to grow.
“Look, just think about it, OK? he kissed her neck and then again just above her collarbone causing a shiver to run through her body. “Just think about me-” he kissed the swell of her breast through her t-shirt “-about what we could do-” he shifted up the hem leaving her midriff exposed to the cool air before he continued to kiss his way further down “-about what I could do to you-” he grazed his fingers over her panties causing her breath to hitch “-fuck it’s be so hot-” her eyes closed in anticipation as he left wet kisses further down her stomach, his tongue caressing her skin as he moved “-and it’d feel so good-” further still “-so good, honey-” his fingernails deliberately scratched down her sides to catch up causing another shiver to twist her insides “-and it’d be so worth it-” he pulled down the sides of her panties as he went “-and we’ll call it even, yes?”
He teasingly bit her causing her to cry out and her eyes to surge open. She soon met the devil in his own as he looked back up at her coquettishly through his eyelashes, his grin disappearing as he moved down to see her open to him. He was a bad man and, in that moment, she knew he had her. He kissed her slowly, deliberately, little butterfly kisses she could barely feel but knew were there from his warm breath and the delicious sounds his lips made. Just as her hands reached out for him, his tongue entered the game gently massaging her, spreading her lips a little more to glide deeper inside her. He looked up again to find her grabbing at the armrest above her, the familiar blush covering her skin. His hands reached under her thighs, steadying them both, silently proud of his work.
He fought hard to keep himself under control at first, her involuntary reactions proving irresistible as he continued to work her over. Her hands stayed grasping at the armrest, her eyes tightly shut now, as he switched between firmer nudges and gentler, longer strokes. He couldn’t believe he hadn’t instigated this sooner, she looked so enticing above him and it was all he could do not to ravish her there and then. Just as he moved his right hand from outside her thigh, he felt her hands cover his own. Smoothing over his hair, he felt a shiver envelope his skin as her fingernails scratched over his scalp forcing his eyes to close in pleasure and his mouth to falter ever so slightly.
“Come here...” she whispered.
Their eyes reconnected and he crawled back over her to join their lips in a passionate kiss. She helped him pull his sweater over the back of his head and he tossed it onto the floor beside them, his jeans quickly joining it before he awkwardly shifted his boxers down his legs eager to pounce back onto her. She giggled before meeting his kiss again. This was all he really wanted; her hands on him, one delicately toying with his hair, maybe pulling slightly when he hits her at the right spot.
He found her shyness vanishing little by little after their first time. Well, second time, technically. He was increasingly comforted by her kisses and the way she would nervously reach for him when they were together. Her own way of letting him know, without words, that she wanted to be there.
“You OK?” he whispered, nipping at her bottom lip causing a smile to flash across her face as she looked up at him. They hadn’t yet got to the point where they felt they could safely assume what the other was thinking so he felt the need to keep asking the question of her, once for reassurance and twice because he just really wanted to hear her whimper as he teasingly rubbed himself against her.
Her breathing grew shallower and her fingers grabbed at his back when she felt him thrust faster, harder, hitting her where she wanted it, over and over again. He never missed a beat. Her hands gripped at him harder than he’d felt before and he got excited at the thought of seeing the marks she would leave on him later on. As he moved his mouth back over hers, their breaths mixing together, she shuddered and after another second or two, finally came hard around him. It didn’t take him long to follow, watching her up close could do that to a man, and they remained in this spot, him lying on top of her, for a few more minutes.
Her back arched as she guided him to her. He felt her grab his shoulders as he pushed inside and she allowed herself finally for the first time that day to block out the rest of the world, leaving only him. He just wanted her to focus solely on him. Just for now.
She wraps her arms around him again as he rested his on either side of her head, allowing him to control their movement as he slowly, confidently, slides in and out of her. She feels warm and soft and...comforting all at once. He relished the tightness, tugging a little on her earlobe when he feels her pulse around him. It was all he had thought about thst day and there would be other times they could slow things down.
Her breathing grew shallower and her fingers grabbed at his back when she felt him thrust a little faster, harder, hitting her where she wanted it, over and over again.
“Oh fuck...” he panted over her neck, her hair sticking to his forehead when he moved back to kiss her.
“Yeh...” she agreed, unable to muster much energy to add anything else. Her hand returned to caress the back of his head and she felt him relax into her touch until he got a little too heavy and she had to shift out from underneath him.
He took the opportunity to pull his boxers back up as she corrected her own underwear. They smiled at each other and laughed a little bit at the state they were in. He reached out to tuck some hair behind her ear before leaning in to kiss her again, retaining some of the passion from just moments ago but not wanting to push his luck.
“Where are you going?” he asked as she bent down to grab one shoe and then the other after spying it underneath his coffee table.
“Home.”
He straightened up on the sofa, eying her as she slipped on her canvas sneaker having not bothered to untie them from when she had kicked them off earlier. “Stay here for a bit. I could make us something and we can hang out. We’re allowed to do that, surely?”
“That might look a bit weird, no?”
“Why? You’ve stayed here loads of times before.”
“Only when the apartment flooded or when you’ve had a party. It’ll look strange.” She turned to look at him, a sorrowful glance telling him all he needed to know. “Sorry. It’s just I promised Shan we’d have a night in with a pizza. I think I owe her.”
“Owe her?’
“Yeh, just...some time, maybe? I’ve barely spoken to her lately and I think something is going on with a guy or possible with work.”
“She’s a big girl, Sarah, she can take care of herself.” He attempted a protest but knew he was fighting a losing battle as she reached for her hoodie off the armchair. “And you have a life, too. You’ve been working loads. You’ve got a stressful job, and...”
“...and among other things.” she pointedly suggested. “It just feels like we’re ships passing in the night at the moment. Has she said anything to you?’
“Why would she tell me about some loser she may or may not like?” He spoke in a clipper tone but regretted it as soon as the words slipped out of his mouth. He rolled back onto the couch, sighing in defeat and unable to think of a decent come-back. She leaned down to fix her shoes again and avoided his eye contact when she got up to leave. The sad puppy expression that he’d skilfully mastered over the years had failed on this occasion but he wouldn’t be discouraged from using it again.
“Soooo...I guess I’ll just see you tomorrow, then?” he called out as she began to leave.
She turned back to find him lying on his couch like Kate Winslet in ‘Titanic’, one leg dangling off the side and his stomach perfectly displaying his hard-fought-for abs. His skin looked unfairly smooth even from this distance, and she bristled at the thoughts of having been under him just minutes ago.
“Don’t forget me...” he pouted and she would have blessed him with a quick peck on the lips by way of an apology before he smiled at her. She playfully rolled her eyes at him, made a point of remembering him laid out this way, and walked out.

TVD 9x15 - Dream a little dream... (Part 1) Enjoy! =)
Cut to – the secret facility, around 3am. All the guests from the Thanksgiving dinner party have left. Augustus and Darius are having a little one on one before heading to bed.
AUGUSTUS: So, how does it feel to be back from La-la land? You really had us worried for a while. Thought you were a goner.
Tumblr media
DARIUS: How long was I out for?
Tumblr media
AUGUSTUS: Almost a month… You’re lucky Veritas was able to use his psychic juju to break the illusion. I was about to give up.
DARIUS: Given our history, I’m surprised you even tried.
AUGUSTUS: Well, bygones. And, Pietro can be very persuasive, he insisted we get you back.
DARIUS: I’ll have to thank him for that. Listen, I know we don’t always see eye to eye, and I know I made some mistakes, but we need to find a way to get over our differences, and see this through to the end.
AUGUSTUS: I agree. That’s the only reason I accepted to do this. Also, I have to admit, you do have some irreplaceable talents.
DARIUS: As do you, from what I’ve been seeing… I could have sworn I saw Tamara at the dinner party. What are you, making clones now?
AUGUSTUS: (Smirks) Oh no, clones are of no real use. And, unlike you, I don’t like to tamper with nature. What you saw was technology at its best.
DARIUS: So, like robots, basically?
AUGUSTUS: Not exactly; more like artificial intelligence. Specifically, it’s called ASI, an artificial intelligence superior to human intelligence or ability. The superhuman, as we like to call it in the geek community.
DARIUS: And they call me the crazy one.
AUGUSTUS: Don’t confuse using technology in our advantage with a god complex, and a bad case of fatal attraction. You really lost it, Darius; almost sabotaged the order’s plan to cater to your fantasies. We can’t have that happen again, so, I hope you understand, some adjustments had to be made.
DARIUS: What are you talking about?
AUGUSTUS: Let’s just say, you didn’t get that scar on your head by accident…
DARIUS: What did you do to me?
AUGUSTUS: Don’t worry, nothing drastic. All I did was install a type of control button, to put it in a way. Just to make sure you don’t go rogue on us again. Can’t blame us for including an insurance policy after the mess you made. (Yawns) Well, I think it’s time I call it a night.
DARIUS: Question, did that “tweak” of yours involve some sort of weird programming with the movie Sunset Boulevard?
AUGUSTUS: The fifties noir film?
DARIUS: Yes.
AUGUSTUS: Well, I am a big fan, but no; that’s all you, pal. Anyway, I need my rest. I’ll see you tomorrow.
DARIUS: Sweet dreams…
AUGUSTUS: (Somewhat confused) Uhm… okay. Make sure you get some sleep (he leaves).
DARIUS: I will, eventually…  (Darius dozes off in a daydream sort of state; the song Wicked Game by Hula-Hifi, lingering in his mind).

Cut to – The Salvatore mansion. Damon and Bonnie’s room, around 3 am. Damon wakes up suddenly, sweating and breathing heavily. He turns to Bonnie, she’s not in the bed. He gets up, knocks on the bathroom door, no answer. He opens the door, she’s not inside. Vamps downstairs, finds her watching T.V in the family room.
DAMON: Hey, Bon-Bon; what are you doing?
BONNIE: Couldn’t sleep, and I didn’t want to wake you, so…
DAMON: (Peeks to see what she is watching) Sunset Boulevard, love this movie.
BONNIE: Come, join me.
DAMON: (Vamps speeds to cuddle with her) You okay?
BONNIE: Fine, just a bad case of insomnia.
DAMON: Want some popcorn?
BONNIE: Is the answer ever no when it comes to that question?
DAMON: (Smirks, gets up) One order of large popcorn coming right up (gives her a peck on the lips, and vamps to the kitchen. Bonnie continues to watch the movie; at some point she begins to feel sleepy and dazed, almost immediately, she falls into a deep sleep).
Cut to – 1950, Hollywood, California. The cast and crew, of what promises to be the next Oscar winning film, are getting ready for another day of shooting on set. The lead actress, a true Hollywood diva, is in her dressing room rehearsing some lines. The lead actor walks in the room, hands her a cup of coffee.
KAT: Every day I tell you I hate that…
Tumblr media
IAN: And every day I do it anyway.
Tumblr media
KAT: Can you just get out, before I have security take you out.
IAN: Is that any way to treat your co-star?
KAT: The only reason you got this job is because your daddy is the head of the studio, you are a horrible actor.
IAN: Kitty Kat, that hurts my feelings. Not everyone can sleep their way to the top, if you know what I mean… Shall we do the count? Joseph, Chris, Michael… Oh, and let’s not forget your recent one, my lovely brother, Paul… I told you, everyone knows about you two, or almost everyone… Aw, poor Candice! Anyway, you can drop the act now.
KAT: And, I told you, who I choose or don’t choose to sleep with, is none of your business, or hers. So, butt out.
IAN: You know, you are quite cute when you get mad (smirks).
Tumblr media
KAT: I actually look cuter when I’m kicking someone’s ass; want to see?
Tumblr media
IAN: (Wiggles is eyebrows) Ooh, you are on fire today!
Tumblr media
Keep it up, maybe you will finally nail at least one scene. (The film director walks in).
MATT: You two are up. And please, stop with the bickering, it’s getting very annoying. Be professional for Christ’s sake!  Come on, chop, chop! You are on in five (leaves).
Tumblr media
KAT: How dare he speak to me that way! Does he know who I am?!
IAN: Apparently, he doesn’t care; ouch! (Hands her the coffee cup) Here, have some, looks like you are going to need it.
Tumblr media
KAT: Shut up… (grabs the cup reluctantly, and takes a sip. Another actress comes barging in, venting).
CANDICE: I swear if I have to do another scene with that incompetent fool, I’m quitting!
KAT: What did Chris do this time?
CANDICE: He can’t tell his left foot from his right one. How on earth did he get the part!
IAN: (Looking at Kat, teasing) Gees, I wonder how…
KAT: (Rolls her eyes, turns to Candice) Come on, he’s not that bad.
CANDICE: Please, you only say that because you slept with him. Not that I’m judging, he’s very hot, but he definitely can’t dance!
Tumblr media
KAT: Well, he makes up for it in other areas (smirks)…
CANDICE: (Grins) Naughty, naughty… Anyway, where is Paul?!
IAN: Missing someone? Don’t worry, Blondie, he should be here soon, he’s just running late. Think you can handle a few minutes without him?
CANDICE: God, I hate you…
KAT: That makes two of us.
IAN: (Looking at Kat) You know there’s a fine line between love and hate (smirks).
KAT: In your dreams.
IAN: Every night, at least twice.
KAT: You are disgusting.
IAN: I know (winks. The Assistant Director walks in).
STEVEN: Miss. Graham, Mr. Somerhalder, we are ready for you.
KAT: Let’s go.
Cut to – LAPD Headquarters. The Chief of Police is in his office, smoking a cigarette, looking at a photo of a victim who was found brutally murdered the night before. The victim, an aspiring actress who had just landed her first role, a minor part in a high-profile production.
Tumblr media
This town… A concrete monument of decay. From the outside it might seem glamourous, with its movie stars and divas, but it’s nothing more than a sewer filled with rats. Nights reek of booze, gun powder, and flesh blood, masked with a cheap imitation of expensive perfume.
Days are no better. The only difference between the two is that during the day, it’s harder for the predators to hide, or so they think. In reality, the true gangsters hide at plain sight. They mock us, thinking they are always one step ahead, always above the law.
But not this time… not this time… (Caresses the victim’s photo, a tear scrolling down his cheek) My sweet Nina… who could have possibly done this to you? And why?
Tumblr media
youtube
(The song “The Two Of Us” by Mark Isham, plays in the background, as the Detective has flashbacks of the woman and the horrendous murder scene; tears keep rolling down his cheeks).
Cut to – the film set. Kat and Ian are shooting one of their scenes.
IAN: Don’t go with him… you belong here, with me.
Tumblr media
KAT: Please, don’t say those words. You know I want nothing more, but I can’t stay… He is my husband.
IAN: And I am the man you love.
KAT: Always and forever; no matter how far.
IAN: (Kisses her passionately. As she begins to walk away and the rain begins to pour, he runs after her, turns her around) I’m sorry, but I won’t let you go (kisses her again, the song Godot - The Fragrance of Dark Coffee + Rainymood, starts to play.
youtube
The raindrops continue to fall as they hold each other, probably for the last time…)
MATT: And, cut! Beautiful! Now that’s what I call cinema! We are making history people!
KAT: (Ian is still holding on to her). Didn’t you hear cut?!
IAN: No, must have bad hearing… (he smiles; she tries to resist, yet can’t help but smile herself).
Tumblr media
MATT: Okay, everyone, let’s take 30 while we prep for the next scene.
KAT: (To Ian) Did you hear that? (Pushes him away) Now, shoo, skedaddle! (She walks away, he follows behind, teasing her).
STEVEN: Mr. Davis, there is a Detective here to see you.
MATT: What? Why?
STEVEN: I think it has something to do with that actress that didn’t show up on set today.
MATT: Which actress, Steven, there are plenty of them around here.
STEVEN: Nina.
MEET: Nina, who? Doesn’t ring a bell.
STEVE: She’s the actress that is playing Miss. Graham’s handmaiden.
MATT: Oh, yes, I think I remember. What about her?
STEVEN: I don’t know. Why don’t you talk to the Detective.
MATT: Fine. Send him my way.
ZACH: (Shows him his badge) Detective Zach Roerig, LAPD, can I ask you some questions?
MATT: Sure, just don’t take too long, we need to keep shooting while we still have the proper lighting.
ZACH: (Takes a picture of Nina out of his pocket and shows it to him) Do you know this woman?
MATT: Barely, she is just an extra with a very small part, we don’t interact. I only work with the stars, so my assistant might be able to give you more insight on her.
ZACH: I’ll talk to him, that’s for sure. But you are the one in charge of this production, correct?
MATT: I am the Director, so yes.
ZACH: Maybe you should pay more attention to your “not so important” cast members as well. Miss. Dobrev was found brutally murdered last night; just one block from here.
MATT: Oh, lord, that is terrible. What happened?
ZACH: Was I not clear? She was murdered, decapitated to be exact. And, we suspect the one responsible for this heinous crime, is part of this little film of yours.
MATT: That’s absurd! No one here would ever do such a thing!
ZACH: You’d be surprised what people are capable of, especially in a town like this. It ain’t all lights and glamour. This is an official investigation, so we are shutting this production down until we get some answers.
MATT: You can’t do that! We are on a schedule.
ZACH: Well, it looks like you’re going to have to make some changes. I need you to call in everyone in the cast and crew, and I mean everyone. No one leaves, until we clear them.
MATT: Do you have any idea who you’re talking to? I don’t take orders from anyone.
ZACH: You Hollywood types and your sense of entitlement. You are in for a reality check, no one is above the law. Here is a warrant to search the premises and question every single one of you. So, make yourself comfortable, we might be here for a while. I’ll need your office for questioning, while my squad processes the area. I take it you don’t mind. And, to prove I’m not all that bad, I’ll start with you. Lead the way.
Tumblr media
Cut to – the Director’s office.
 SUSPECT # 1 – THE DIRECTOR
Tumblr media
ZACH: For the record, state your full name.
MATT: Matthew W. Davis.
ZACH: How did you know the victim?
MATT: I told you, I didn’t. Apart from directing the few scenes she has been in, I have never talked to or interacted with her at all.
ZACH: What were your whereabouts last night, from 11pm to 2am?
MATT: I was here, filming. Went home around 3am.
ZACH: (Shows him a note that reads: You were great last night. Keep it up, and you might become a real movie star someday…). Do you know what this is?
MATT: (Looking nervous) Where did you find that?
ZACH: I’m the one that will be asking the questions. Is this your handwriting?
MATT: It is.
ZACH: Can you explain how, and why, this was found in the victim’s purse the night she was murdered?
MATT: I have no idea. That note wasn’t for her.
ZACH: Oh, really? Who was it for, then? And why do you reckon Miss. Dobrev had it with her?
MATT: I can’t tell you who it was for. And, I have absolutely no idea why that woman would have that note.
ZACH: Oh, come on, try harder.
MATT: This is ridiculous, I want my lawyer.
ZACH: You are in your right to request one, but that would only make you more suspicious. So, I would advise otherwise.
MATT: What do you want from me? I already told you everything I know.
ZACH: Who was the note for?
MATT: Okay, okay… it was for Candice.
ZACH: Doesn’t make much sense though, she’s already a movie star…
MATT: She is, but not a diva, like Miss. Graham. That’s what every woman in Hollywood wants. And I am the only one that can give that to them.
ZACH: That’s a lot of power to be in one man’s hands.
MATT: I worked hard for it, trust me.
ZACH: Sure you did… Okay, I’m gonna let you go for now, while we verify your alibi; but trust me, we will talk again.
MATT: Whatever. Can I leave?
ZACH: Yes, and send your assistant in.
SUSPECT # 2 – THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Tumblr media
ZACH: For the record, state your full name.
STEVEN: Steven R. McQueen.
ZACH: How do you know Miss. Dobrev?
STEVEN: She is one of the actresses in the film.
ZACH: More like, was…
STEVEN: What?
ZACH: She was murdered last night, about a block from here. Know anything about that?
STEVEN: No, no, of course not. Oh, god, she’s dead?! This can’t be true… How, why?
ZACH: Well, that’s what I want to find out, pal. Think you can help me figure it out?
STEVEN: Whatever I can do to help, you can count on it. Miss. Dobrev was a lovely gal.
ZACH: Were you two close?
STEVEN: Not really. I met her when we started filming. We talked from time to time, but that was about it.
ZACH: Just talk, ha?
STEVEN: Yes, Detective, I swear.
ZACH: I believe you. Look, you seem like a decent guy. I’m sure, if anyone, you are the one that knows what really happens around this set. Help me out? Miss. Dobrev deserves some justice, don’t you think?
STEVEN: Of course. I will tell you everything I know.
ZACH: Good. Why don’t we start with Mr. Davis’s real relationship with the victim…
Cut to – Kat’s dressing room. Kat, Ian, Candice, Paul, and Chris are talking about the situation.
CANDICE: With all due respect, but who is this Nina person?
KAT: She’s the actress playing my handmaiden.
CANDICE: Oh, her? Well, you can’t really refer to her as an actress, I mean...
Tumblr media
CHRIS: She’s a nobody, so who cares.
Tumblr media
PAUL: Judging from the Police take-over, something big is going on.
Tumblr media
CANDICE: Why do you care?
PAUL: I’m just saying, it doesn’t look good.
IAN: Well, I agree with Mr. slippery shoes and Cinderella, who cares! We should be shooting, don’t want to lose the good lighting.
KAT: Of course you wouldn’t dare to care about anyone but yourself….
Tumblr media
IAN: Really, Kitty Kat? This coming from little Miss me, myself, and I. We all know who you are.
Tumblr media
KAT: No you don’t, so stop pretending you do.
PAUL: (Sarcastically) Ouch, bro.
Tumblr media
CHRIS: (To Kat and Ian, sounding quite bitter) Can you two stop bickering, for like a second! Gees, just get married already! So freaking obvious…
Tumblr media
KAT: Please, he wishes!
IAN: I might like a little pain here and there, but I’m no masochist… unless you ask nicely, of course (winks; the Director walks in). Matt, can you please tell us what the hell is going on!
MATT: We’ve been shut down, until further notice. Oh, and no one can leave either, so make yourselves comfortable.
IAN: What! Why?!
MATT: Well, that wannabe actress playing Kat’s handmaiden was murdered last night. Ruined our entire schedule! The Police think one of us did it… ridiculous!
KAT: Wait, what!? She was murdered? No, no… that can’t be… Oh my god!
CHRIS: And I’ll say it again, why do we care? She is a nobody! Or was, whatever!
KAT: Don’t say that! You have no idea who she was…
CHRIS: Neither do you, Kitty Kat.
Tumblr media
IAN: (Pushes Chris away from her)  First, no one calls her that, but me. Second, back off…
Tumblr media
CHRIS: (Sarcastic smirk) Oh, please. Don’t you get it? She will never love you. Once she gets what she wants from you, she’ll throw you out like a piece of trash. So stop trying so hard.
IAN: (Grabs him by the neck) Listen, psycho boy…
PAUL: Stop, both of you. Is it too much to ask for you to act like adults, for once? We really don’t need your little pissing contest drama right now.
Tumblr media
KAT: Nor any of this… Everyone get out, I need some space.
IAN: (Looking concerned) Kat...
KAT: I said, get out! All of you! (They leave).
Tumblr media
Cut to – the Director’s office.
ZACH: Thank you for your cooperation, this information is critical to our investigation.
STEVEN: (Looking scared) Please, Detective, promise me you won’t tell them you heard those things from me, I would be completely ruined.
ZACH: Don’t worry, your secrets are safe with me, trust me. Now, be a sport and send Miss. Accola my way, will you?
STEVEN: Will do, Detective.
ZACH: Thank you, we will talk again soon.
SUSPECT # 3 – THE ACTRESS
Tumblr media
ZACH: For the record, state your full name.
CANDICE: (Flirtatious) Detective, you don’t believe I had anything to do with this, do you? I mean, look at me… do you really think I would be capable of such a thing?
ZACH: Perhaps you didn’t hear me. I said, state your full name.
CANDICE: Fine… Candice Rene Accola. But I swear, Detective, I never even crossed a word with that woman.
ZACH: Funny, that’s not what I’ve heard…
CANDICE: From who? Whoever said that is obviously lying! I have a reputation to protect, I don’t mingle with the extras.
ZACH: Oh, I’m sure you don’t, but I wonder if you get jealous of them?
CANDICE: (Laughs) That’s absurd! Why on earth would I be jealous of her!? She’s a nobody.
ZACH: Maybe she had something you wanted…
CANDICE: What could she possibly have had that I don’t? If anything, she was the one jealous of me.
ZACH: I hear you are quite smitten with an ex of hers.
CANDICE: An ex? What are you talking about?
ZACH: Just cut the bullshit Miss. Accola. I know for a fact that Mr. Wesley and Miss. Dobrev where previously engaged, that is until you came into the picture…
CANDICE: (Nervously) Please, Detective, let me explain…
ZACH: Please, do.
CANDICE: It’s not what you think. I mean, yes, I knew they had a thing in the past, but that was a long time ago. They went to the same Highschool, in this godforsaken town in the middle of nowhere, or something along those lines. But, I swear, I never even spoke to her, nor did he, after that. No disrespect for the deceased, but she was weird, she didn’t belong in the same circle as us. There are levels, and she is, well, was, way below ours. If you are looking for a real suspect, I suggest you talk to Mr. Wood, I know there was something going on between those two.
ZACH: Really, why would you say that?
CANDICE: They are both whack jobs. They would get together after shooting; hang out at this weirdo trash bar down the block called “The Grill”, where all the other city looneys hang out. Trust me, they were into some really creepy stuff.
ZACH: What kind of creepy stuff?
CANDICE: Some obscure vampire nonsense. I’m telling you, totally cuckoo.
ZACH: Vampires?
CANDICE: Yes, I swear! If you ask me, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chris turned out to be one… I mean, if they were real, of course. Only a crazy person would believe those things.
ZACH: I agree. So, you are saying Miss. Dobrev had a dark side?
CANDICE: Oh, for sure! No one ever bought her little “Mary Sue” act.
ZACH: Well, that’s quite specific information for someone who claims not to know anything about her.
CANDICE: I’m just telling you what I’ve heard from others, specifically, from Mr. Wood.
ZACH: Okay, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt on that, for the moment. Now, (hands her the same note he handed the Director) can you explain what this is about?
CANDICE: (Looking genuinely clueless) I have never seen that before, I promise.
ZACH: Fair enough. Moving on, what where your whereabouts last night, from 11pm to 2am?
CANDICE: I was here shooting, until about 3am, I think. I went straight home after that.
ZACH: 3 am? Doesn’t seem like a safe hour for a lady to be driving home alone…
CANDICE: Oh, of course not. I had my driver take me home.
ZACH: What’s your driver’s name?
CANDICE: Mr. Trevino, you can ask him if you don’t believe me. He’s right outside my dressing room.
ZACH: No need, just yet. You are free to go, for now. Let Mr. Wood know I’m expecting him next.
CANDICE: Sure thing. (As she is walking out) Detective, one more thing… I probably shouldn’t say, since she is my best friend, but I feel obligated to mention this, it’s in my duty to do so. You should know Miss. Graham and Miss. Dobrev used to be very close friends, best friends actually. She doesn’t know I know that, but I do. In fact, Kat is the reason Nina got this job in the first place; and the reason why Nina moved from that Mystic place to LA. Just thought you should know… Hope it’s useful information (flirtatious smirk).
ZACH: (Flirting back) Very useful, Miss. Accola; thank you for sharing.
Cut to –  Kat’s dressing room. She is looking at herself in the mirror; she seems somewhat sad, but a lot more worried. Ian knocks.
Tumblr media
IAN: Kat, please, let me in… I’m sorry… (Kat opens the door, he walks inside, she looks around to make sure there is no one else there; shuts the door after him).
KAT: What do you want? I thought I made myself clear when I said I wanted to be left alone.
IAN: I needed to make sure you were okay (looks around the room) … I didn’t know you knew her outside of the film, I’m sorry if I was insensitive.
Tumblr media
KAT: (Goes to her mini bar, serves and hands him a glass of bourbon) It’s just you and me, look for yourself. You can stop pretending now.
Tumblr media
IAN: (Relieved) Okay, good… I don’t know how much longer I would be able to keep up with the act.
KAT: As long as it takes; we can’t risk them finding out.
IAN: I know, Kitty Kat, but I’m freaking out here! This place is infested with cops. What the hell are we going to do...?!
KAT: Calm down, we will think about that later… (kisses him passionately, and throws him on to her dressing room bed…)

A Bump in the Road - Morgan Rielly
Request: 44. You need to see a doctor.” Morgan Rielly
I winced as I got off the sofa, I had been feeling off for a couple of days now but I just chalked it up to my period and the cramps being extra bad this month. It didn’t help that Mo was out of town on a super long road trip and that always put me in a funk. But he was coming home today and I was ready to spend some time with him. I was picking Morgan up from the airport so I threw on some leggings and one of Morgan’s old sweatshirts.
Getting into the car, I tried to push off the discomfort and focused on the road ahead of me. I managed to pull into the parking lot of the airport just as Morgan texted that they landed. Heading inside the small, private terminal they would be coming through I found a couple of the other girls waiting. Alannah waved me over, smiling as I sat down next to her. “Are you okay Samantha? You look a little pale.”
“Yeah.” Alannah looked like she was going to push more but the guys showed up then. I was slow to get out of the seat so Alannah said something to Morgan before going to Zach. I had just stood up by the time Morgan got to me. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too. Alannah said you don’t feel good.”
“I’m fine, it’s just cramps from my period.” Morgan grabbed his bag as we headed out to the car, I didn’t even argue with him when he motioned for the car keys.
“You’re period isn’t for another 4 days and you only start cramping the day before. You look really pale.” I got into the passenger seat and winced as I twisted to get my seatbelt on. Morgan looked super concerned, reaching over to feel my forehead. “And you feel warm. How long have you been feeling like this?”
“A day or two. I probably just ate something bad.”
“You need to see a doctor Sam.” I really wanted to roll my eyes at him but I also knew he was just worried about me.
“I’ll get an appointment for tomorrow.” That seemed to make Morgan happy because he didn’t bring it up on the way home, letting me call to make an appointment before we cuddled on the sofa. As we caught up on tv I started to feel worse, trying to hide it from Morgan so he wouldn’t worry. That all went out the window when I stood up to get a drink and I literally swayed before falling back onto the sofa.
“That’s it, we are going to the ER now.”
“Mo…”
“No, you just almost fainted. You need to see a doctor. Right now.” His face was as serious as I had ever seen, even when he was on the ice in a tight playoff game. “You are going to sit here while I go get pants for both of us and your purse. Then we are getting in my car and I am driving us to the hospital.” I just nodded, wincing as I moved on the sofa. Morgan left the room quickly, I could hear him down in the bedroom. He came rushing back, pulling on a sweatshirt and carrying sweatpants for me. “Do you need help getting these on while I grab your bag?”
I just shook my head, slowly pulling on my sweatpants. I barely had both legs in the sweatpants by the time Morgan returned, carefully helping me stand up and pulling the sweatpants up before looking me in the eyes. “I have your purse with your wallet, your water bottle, some snacks, an ipad, and some headphones.” I nodded and before I could say anything Morgan picked me up and moved towards the door. He hurried us out of the apartment and down to the car, buckling me in before hurrying around to the driver's seat. I closed my eyes as Morgan started to drive, even with my eyes closed I knew he was speeding as much as he could in a big city with so many traffic lights.
Before I knew it Morgan was stopping and getting out of the car, my eyes opened to see him hurrying across the front of the car with the backpack before helping me out of the car. He had actually parked the car and was now carrying me through the parking garage to the emergency department entrance. A nurse spotted us as soon as we entered, bringing a wheelchair over for me. As much as I didn't want to admit it, the pain was much worse now and I was so out of it that Morgan had to do all the talking to get me checked in. Once that was all done we were moved back to a room and Morgan lifted me onto the bed.
The next few minutes were a flurry of activity, a nurse getting me on an iv as a doctor came in and started to ask questions. They must have given me something for the pain because I was finally about to focus on what the doctor was saying. "Your boyfriend said that you have been having bad stomach pain for a few days now?"
"Yeah, at first I thought it was just cramping but it is much more painful than any cramp I have ever had."
"I'm going to run some tests and we will figure this out." He spoke to the nurse before leaving the room with a nod. Once the nurse was also done I turned to look at Morgan who looked terrified.
"I'm going to text Kyle and Sheldon to let them know I probably won't be at practice tomorrow." I wanted to argue but the concerned look that covered Morgan’s face was enough to stop me before I spoke up, just nodding and watching him type out a text. When that was done he put his phone away and grabbed my hand. “How are you feeling?”
“Like there is a knife in my stomach, but besides that I’m fine. How was your road trip?” Morgan raised an eyebrow, making me laugh. “It will distract me until the doctor comes back.”
“Fine.” With that Morgan launched into a story of the shenanigans that he and his teammates got into during their trip. As Morgan was telling me about Mitch hiding Auston’s gear before a practice. The story made me laugh which caused pain that I was trying to hide from Morgan. "I'm hurting you by making you laugh. Is there anything I can do to make you more comfortable?"
“No, I think it’s just something I have to deal with until the doctor figures it out.” Morgan held onto my hand as we waited, telling me more about the road trip until the doctor came into the room around 30 minutes later.
“Ms. Kennedy, we got the results of your test back. Your appendix is about to burst. We need to get you into surgery right away. The complications if we wait too long are severe so time is of the essence. Our plan is to do it laparoscopically, that might change once we are in there. The surgery should last about an hour as long as everything goes to plan. Do you have any questions?”
“What is the recovery time?”
“You will probably have to stay in the hospital for a day or two, maybe 3 if there are any complications. You should be back to regular daily activities in 2 to 4 weeks, nothing too strenuous for the first week or so. Anything else?” We both say no, the doctor shaking both of our hands before moving towards the door. “Someone will be in shortly to prep you for surgery.”
Once he was gone I looked over at Morgan who was frozen. “Mo, it’s going to be fine.”
“It’s still surgery Samantha! Surgery always has a chance of something bad happening.”
“Wow, did you really just full first name me? I will be fine, and two days from now I will be watching you play hockey from the comfort of our bed while you kick ass on the ice. I’m gonna text my family quickly before I go back for surgery but I am going to need you to keep them up to date with what’s going on. I know they are going to want to fly out but hopefully I can convince them not to come.”
“Good luck with that.”
Morgan’s POV
I watched as Sam texted her family before the nurse came in to take her back for surgery. “I’ll see you once soon. I love you so much.”
“I love you too Mo.” I kissed her forehead and then her lips before they wheeled her bed away. Another nurse showed me to a waiting room where I would be out of the way and they would know where to find me. I was texting an update to Samantha’s family when someone bumped into my legs. It annoyed me when they just stood there then, not apologizing. I looked up and saw Fred and Auston standing there with coffee and a bag of food.
“What are you guys doing here?”
“Sam texted us and said you might need some company. So we brought coffee and snacks." They sit on either side of me, handing me a coffee before pulling out some sandwiches. “How long is the surgery supposed to take?”
“Hopefully an hour. Thank you guys for coming.”
“Of course, Sam’s family too.” Freddie says handing me a sandwich. Auston and Fred kept me distracted for the whole time as we waited for the doctor to come out. I started to get antsy when the hour mark passed. As we got closer to two hours I was pacing the waiting room. “Mo, sit down. I’m sure they will be out soon with news.” Freddie had to pull me back into my seat to stop me from pacing. Instead of pacing my leg was bouncing and Auston laughed at me.
“Sometimes surgery takes a while, if something went wrong I’m sure that someone would come out and update you.” I really wanted to believe my teammates, but I was still worried. Finally Samantha”s doctor came out and as soon as I spotted him I was up, out of my seat and moving towards him.
“Did something go wrong?”
“No, things were a little worse than we expected so we weren’t able to do it laparoscopically. Besides that everything went perfect. She is in a recovery room now. I don’t think the change in procedure will extend her time she needs to stay here, it could take her a little longer to get back to 100 percent.”
“Okay.”
“A nurse can take you to her whenever you are ready, but unfortunately only one visitor can see her.” I thank him, shaking his hand before going to tell my friends what was going on.
“We’ll try to stop by tomorrow after practice if Sam is up to it.” I bid them goodbye before following the nurse back to where Sam was. Walking into the room, I wiped my sweaty hands on my sweatpants before going into the room. Sam was laying in the slightly inclined bed with her eyes closed, so I tried to be quiet as I pulled a chair up to her bed. Just as I was sitting down Sam looked at me smiling.
“Hi.”
“Hi, how are you feeling?” That caused me to laugh, of course she was asking me how I was.
“Aren’t I supposed to ask you that, since you are the one who just came out of surgery?” That got a smile out of her as she reached for my hand.
“I’m fine but I am also pretty sure that I have pain meds in me right now.” Sam stroked my cheek and smiled at me. “You worry about me, and the nurse mentioned that the surgery ran long so I know that you worried even more.”
“Well, Fred and Auston didn’t have to tie me down to the chair.”
“That’s good.” We talked for a bit before a nurse came in to check on Sam. When he left Sam turned to me. “Why don’t you sleep at home?”
“I’m sure they will be okay if I stay here with you overnight.”
“It’s not going to be comfortable for you. Please go home and sleep in our bed, I will still be here in the morning and your back will thank me for making sure you don’t hurt yourself.”
“Sam…”
“Please Mo. Do it for me. I am going to be asleep basically the whole time you are gone.”
“Fine, but I will be back in the morning as soon as visitor hours start.”
“I can’t wait.” Kissing Samantha goodbye, I left the hospital, wishing that I was back with her but knowing she was right.
***
“She is walking around with a nurse but they should be back in the room in a few minutes.” I thank the nurse and sit down in a chair and answer a few texts before I hear Sam and a nurse coming into the room.
“Mo!”
“Hey Sam, how are you feeling?”
“A little stiff, but good. It felt really good to walk around the floor.” The nurse says a doctor will be in soon before leaving us, Sam coming to sit on my lap. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too, but you were right.”
“I’m sorry, can you repeat that?” I laugh, kissing her before lightly squeezing her side.
“You were right and I love you. I also brought you an iced coffee, I called the nurses desk and they talked to your doctor who gave the okay for the drink.”
“I love you too. And not just because you brought me coffee.” Hugging Sam as she drank her coffee and we chatted, waiting for the doctor, I was happy that this was just a bump in a road and even though I was super worried about the surgery, it all worked out.

Amoureux (c.s./d.s.) - Chapter Twenty-One
A/N I think Daniel’s starting to regret his choice...
Tumblr media
“Louisa.”
“Do not talk to me right now.” Louisa pushed past Daniel as she descended the few steps from the alter.
He stepped in front of her, setting his hands on her shoulders, “You can see why I had to be truthful, right? It’s not fair to him.”
“Va te faire foutre. That is not why you did it and we both know that.” Louisa spat, shoving him to the side so she could pass, hiking up her dress to make walking easier under the wide skirt.
Daniel stepped on her train to keep her from leaving as the rest of the guests awkwardly filed out of the church to the sound of silence, no wedding bells heard for miles.
“I don’t know what you’re saying but I’m hoping it means ‘thank you’.” Daniel whispered.
Louisa spun around, as if ready to hit him, but Jonah was pulling her back, directing to Daniel, “With my respect, Your Royal Highness, she told you to go fuck yourself.”
Daniel gaped at Louisa who was glaring at him from beside Jonah, “Listen, I understand that you’re upset with me but-”
“No buts!” Louisa held up her hand to silence him. “You had no right. That was not your place.”
“I know…I know…I just-”
“I do not care about your excuses.” Louisa cut him off again, sharply. “If you knew then you would not have completely embarrassed me and made a mockery of your brother in front of everyone!”
“Louisa-”
“Ah.” she held her finger between them. “You keep your mouth shut until I want to hear from you, compris?”
Daniel hesitated, wide eyes staring at the obvious anger in her face and it scared him enough to nod once, a soft pout on his youthful face. Louisa sighed strongly, adjusting her dress and looked to Jonah who was beside her, his wife a few steps away as she watched the scene unfold worriedly.
“What now?” Louisa asked him, her voice shaking.
“Prince Christian has left for the palace, so we are to follow him promptly. The King and Queen and Princess Anna have already been seated in the carriage and are awaiting the both of you.” Jonah answered.
“Did Christian say anything?” Louisa questioned, her concern apparent.
“I am afraid not, ma’am.” Jonah whispered.
“I am riding with you. Not him.” Louisa shot a glare towards Daniel as if he wasn’t standing right there. She lifted up the hem of her dress and walked briskly back down the aisle admits the evacuating crowd.
Everyone seemed to move out of her way to let her pass.
Louisa stayed silent as she sat in the carriage across from Jonah and his wife, her unreadable glare focussed out the window and she twisted her engagement ring around her finger anxiously. She couldn’t get the image of Christian’s face out of her mind, the hurt in his eyes and the anger on his face. It made her feel sick.
Daniel was ushered into the other carriage with his family where he was immediately reprimanded by his parents the entire way home, Anna simply sat between her parents and stared silently at her lap as her brother was yelled at. He didn’t even bother to put up an argument. Louisa’s hurt expression was punishment enough.
Both carriages arrived back at the palace only moments after Christian had and the family rushed inside, Louisa right at the front of the group to try and find him first to explain herself. Daniel shuffled after them, pulled along by Jonah who was less than impressed at the little stunt he pulled to ruin the wedding. It was a classic Daniel move but to a level that no one expected him to stoop to.
Jack and Zach opened the doors for the family, sharing confused glances as it was clearly not the excited and happy arrival they had expected.
“Where is he?” Louisa asked Mary who had met them in the foyer.
“Ballroom, ma’am.” The lady in waiting answered softly, her thin eyebrows narrowed in concern as she watched Louisa rush off after who was supposed to be her husband, who, only moments before, had stormed inside and made a beeline to the reception that was being set up in the ballroom.
Louisa ran right inside the large room to find it already completed for the expected reception, large impressive bouquets of flowers decorating the room around a huge white trimmed table for the guests, donning only the best china, silver cutlery, and crystal glasses. Christian’s red suit could be seen admits the white across the ballroom, speaking to Corbyn, and Louisa ran over, her heels clicking against the wood floors.
“Christian!” she called loudly.
“Sir, we worked all night to prepare these dishes-”
“I do not care. Just get rid of it.” Christian ordered just as she approached them, and she grabbed onto his arm in desperation.
“Christian, I am so sorry. Listen to me, please.” she nearly begged, staring at his face that was clenched with anger.
He shoved her hand off of him and directed to a shocked Corbyn, “Throw it all out for all I care. There is no reason to celebrate.”
“Oh my God, Christian. No. No, no; please listen to me!” Louisa nearly begged, tripping a little over the end of her dress a little as he started back down the length of the ballroom and she rushed to follow him. “I did not know what I was doing, and I-I made such a terrible mistake and I am truly sorry! I told him to go away, but he did not listen!”
Christian ignored her, shouting to the few remaining workers in the room, “Tear it down! Get rid of everything! I do not want to see any of this by tomorrow.”
Louisa felt tears welling in her eyes as she clung onto Christian’s sleeve, trying as hard as she could to keep him from walking away but he was stronger than her and she ended up just being dragged along behind him, her heels skidding over the wood floors, “Christian, please!”
He pulled himself out of his suit jacket to get her hands off him and continued walking towards the doors, leaving her running after him with his jacket clenched in her trembling hands.
The workers stayed motionless and silent as they watched the young couple unravel in front of them, the rest of the family and their group listening silently to Louisa’s tortured sobs from the foyer.
“We should not be standing here listening.” The King said softly. “Let us take some tea outside.”
The group started towards the front doors, but he stayed back to set a hand on his youngest son’s shoulder.
“You will stay in your room until I permit you to leave, understood?” he spoke softly, yet sternly.
Daniel could only nod, biting his lip to hold back his own frightened tears, and turned for the stairs. Jonah followed to lock the door behind him.
Louisa let out a wracking sob that echoed through the large ballroom, Christian’s name falling from her lips as she grabbed his arm again, trying to pull him to face her, “Please, Christian, please, please, please, please, please, please listen to me!”
Christian whipped around to face her, nearly making her stumble as he grabbed her wrist and pushed her back a little, “Stop making a fool of yourself in front of everyone! You have done enough today!”
“No, no, no, no, Christian, you need to listen to me-”
“I have nothing I want to hear from you!”
“I love you! I love you and I want to marry you! Please-”
“Do you?” Christian snapped loudly.
“Yes!” Louisa grabbed for him again, but he took a step back from her, overwhelmed by his intense emotions that were coursing through him.
“Do you know how insane this is?” Christian shouted, his cheeks red with anger. “The whole fucking country thinks I am a bloody fool! Every single person in that church knows you fucked my brother!”
Louisa flinched at his angry language and she let out a small sob, clinging tighter onto his jacket she held her in arms, her tears smudging the powder on her cheeks and dripped onto the red material she held as if it were him.
“I am the future King of England, Louisa!” Christian added, even louder now, “I cannot have this shit getting out and now everyone knows, and it will spread like disease! Do you know how bad this looks on me?”
“It was not my fault!” Louisa screamed, her voice breaking. “I told him not to!”
“There should not have been anything to tell in the first place!” Christian retorted just as loud.
“He started it! He kissed me first!” Louisa protested, willing to try anything to get him to even so much as look at her.
“Was it mutual?” Christian asked sharply.
“What?” Louisa whispered, his eyebrows furrowing a moment as if it was a difficult question.
“Did you voluntarily kiss him? Did you voluntarily get into bed with him?” Christian shouted.
“Y-Yes but-but-but he started it!”
“I do not care who started it! The goddamn horses in the stables could have started it and it does not give you the right to use that as an excuse!”
“He just- I just- He-” Louisa cried, her whole-body trembling under his glare. “I am sorry! I am so sorry!”
“Are you?”
“Yes! I love you!” Louisa shouted, stumbling over herself again to reach for him.
“Do not touch me right now.” he snapped, taking a step back.
“Tell me you love me.” Louisa asked softly.
He didn’t reply.
“Christian, please. I love you. I know you love me too. Please just say it. Please, please, please, I need to hear you say it.”
“Get out.” he breathed, his gaze focussed on the floor and he clenched his jaw a moment. “I cannot look at you right now.”
“Please, Christian, please.” Louisa cried.
“Get the hell out of my sight.” Christian ordered, snatching his jacket from her tight grip and he turned away from her.
Louisa stared at his back for a moment before biting back her sob and rushed out of the ballroom with her face in her hands. She blinked away her tears the best she could, stumbling up the grand staircase under her long wedding dress, tripping over the excess fabric in her rush, her tiara almost slipping off her head.
Daniel was stood at the top of the stairs – always an expert at keeping extra keys hidden under his mattress – and he simply stared at her as she climbed the stairs. She stopped at the top when she saw him and they stared at each other for a moment. He simply stared at her tear streaked face and her frazzled hair and appearance, a small pout coming to his lips in shame. Louisa didn’t say a word to him; she only shot him a glare and pushed past him to get to her bedroom. He watched her walk away and the slam of the door made him flinch.

Home for Christmas
A/N: Oops. This was supposed to post yesterday. (and it’s barely posting today.) Guess we’re a day behind? Guess this means extended Christmas? Guess in the final days of 2019 I still can’t stick to a schedule. Oh well. Some things never change, while others...do. Here’s the one and only Ryan request for Day 8 of the 12 Days of Christmas Fics. I asked @something-tofightfor and @its-my-little-dumpster-fire for input on whether this should be past Ryan or future Ryan, and this was the response I got- @something-tofightfor : future. @its-my-little-dumpster-fire : past ‘cause I like to be difficult. So I cheated and did both. Anywho, this is related to Passing Through.

“Did you eat all those cookies?”
“Is that mistletoe? You know it’s poisonous, right?”
When you woke up on Christmas morning, the red and and black tartan blanket had been pulled up to your chin, the multi-colored quilt tucked around your toes. It was chilly in the attic-turned-guest room. Taylor’s husband Dean had been meaning to bolster the insulation and seal the drafty windows, but as they seemed to every year, the holidays simply came up too soon for him to get the work done in time. You and Ryan both understood of course, assuring Taylor that you’d both spent much colder nights, and complimenting Dean on the amount of work he had been able to do on the house in the short time that they’d owned it. They’d made the move from Georgia up to a small suburb outside of Pittsburgh only two months prior, and somehow they’d made it suitable to host most of the Brenners for Christmas (Patrick was spending the holiday with his new girlfriend Natalie and her family down in Texas, and Tommy had gotten work out on a wind farm in Kansas, the holiday overtime too good to turn down.)
Extra blankets and a space heater had been brought up to get you through your stay, but even without them you would have been fine. You were never cold when Ryan’s arms were around you, your back against his chest, his steady heartbeat lulling you to sleep. But when you opened your eyes and rolled over, he wasn’t there. Hmm. You peeled back the double layer of blankets and dropped your legs over the side of the bed, toes wiggling into your waiting moccasins. The rushing sound of water moving through the pipes met your ears as soon you were on your feet, and you guessed that he’d gone down a floor to use the bathroom. You folded the blankets and reached for the forest green thermal shirt that Ryan had worn the day before, pulling it over your head and pushing your arms through the too-long sleeves. With a yawn, you combed your fingernails through your hair, twisting it up into a knot, before leaving the attic to quietly head downstairs.
You padded down the creaky steps, the soft leather soles of your slippers tapping on the hardwood. Reaching the first floor, you turned into the family room. The fire was crackling with more life than it would be had it been left alone since last night, so you knew someone had come down to stoke it. You’d wanted to be up first, get coffee going and start breakfast as a way to thank your hosts. You strained your ears listening for any signs of life, hearing only the snapping and popping of the flames, the muffled sounds of snores, and the shuttering pipes upstairs.  It’s still quiet down here… maybe whoever it was went back to bed.
Passing the tree, laden with homemade ornaments spanning decades, your heart warmed more than it had from the fire. Mason jar lids and popsicles sticks, pipe cleaners and painted macaroni adorned the branches, illuminated by bright bulbs in every color. Aunt Holly had brought the box of Christmas memories up from Georgia with her as a surprise for the bunch of them. The night before, once everyone had settled in, you all gathered around the tree to add to the few decorations that Taylor and Dean had already hung. You sat on the floor by the fireplace leaning against Ryan’s chest as the box was unpacked, listening intently to the stories behind each and every one of the decorations, imagining smaller versions of the Brenners painstakingly glueing and glittering pieces of construction paper around Holly’s kitchen table. Your fingers brushed over a clothespin that had been painted brown with messy brushstrokes, pipe cleaners bent and twisted to look like antlers, and a red pom pom stuck on as a nose.
“That’s one’a mine”, he told you as you watched Taylor’s 5 year old daughter agonize over the perfect spot on the tree. “Made it for Aunt Holly for Christmas the year she took me in.” He spoke in your ear, right arm draped over your shoulder, rough fingers tracing gentle, soothing patterns on your left bicep. “S’nice to see this stuff again.”
You turned your head, leaning it back against his shoulder to look up at him. The flickering firelight danced in his eyes as they met yours. You’d been together for two years, but the feeling that you got when that happened hadn’t changed except to grow stronger. You smiled, reaching across your body for his hand and linking it with your own. “I bet it is,” you said. “I’m glad I get to see all of this, too.” You dragged your nose over the spot where his neck sloped into his shoulder before pressing your lips to the exposed skin over the collar of his shirt. You felt him swallow and heard a happy little hum come from deep in his soul.
Ryan tightened the arm he had around you, eliminating any remaining space between your bodies. His lips found a spot near the crest of your cheek, scratchy beard tickling you as he spoke. “You’re the only one I wanna share it with, Junebug.” You closed your eyes, a fullness in your chest that no one but Ryan could put there. He smiled as he kissed your cheek. “The only one I ever wanna share it with.”
“Ryan,” his name twirled off your tongue, dancing, light as a feather, to the skipped beat of your heart. You looked around the room, laughter and the smell of nutmeg filling the air as Zach and Jimmy regaled Dean with the infamous sunburn story. Holly was helping Cheyenne hang a wreath made of mis-matched buttons near the top of the tree while Jimmy chased a much-too-hyper Evan around the room. This is home, you thought, even though it wasn’t for either of you.
“Evan Jacob Bingham!” Taylor’s voice cut through the merriment, all 5 foot three of her small frame suddenly stern as she stuck both hands on her hips.
“Uh oh,” Ryan said in a low voice, causing you to snicker.
All eyes turned to Evan, his sandy hair hanging from his head as Fitz held him upside down by the ankles. Little green eyes widening to saucers, his face flushed scarlet as he took in his mother’s expression.
“Did you eat all of those cookies?!” She demanded, gesturing to the plate on the counter that now suspiciously only held crumbs.
Fitz righted the child, setting him back on the ground and ruffling his hair. He leaned over to hover over Evan’s shoulder. “Better fess up, kid. ‘Member, Santa’s watchin’. Lyin’ won’t do you any favors.”
You laughed to yourself, feeling warm all over again as your fingers left the little clothespin Rudolph. Stepping into the kitchen, you busied yourself with the coffee can, measuring scoops of the nutty grounds and dumping them into one of the leftover filters that you’d used to make paper snowflakes with Taylor’s kids the night before. More ornaments for next year’s tree. You secured the lid on the can, giving it a smack to make sure it was sealed tight, when a peel of laughter hit your ears. It was muffled slightly, and followed by a deeper, fuller chuckle that you couldn’t mistake if you tried. Ryan. Setting your task aside, you moved the curtains over the sink just in time to see Ryan hoisting Cheyenne and Evan, one under each arm, up to place the hat atop the head of the most perfectly constructed snowman you’d ever seen, a grin broke out on your face and your hand came up to your mouth. There you are, Ryan Brenner.
You watched the three of them admire their handiwork as the coffee pot bubbled and steamed to life somewhere behind you, before you saw Ryan toss his head in the direction of the house, telling them it was time to go back inside. The kids turned and immediately ran towards the back door, wobbling like penguins in their snow boots. When Ryan turned, his eyes went straight to the window, a wide smile brightening his face. Above his beard his cheeks and nose were bright red from the cold, a puff of vapor forming as he let out a breath. Raising one hand, he waved to you, and you wiggled your fingers over the cuff of his shirt to wave back, biting your bottom lip.
The door banged open and Cheyenne and Evan burst inside, stomping clumps of white onto the mat and yanking the zippers of their jackets open. “We made a snowman!” Evan said, turning to you as though he knew you’d be there to receive the news.
“I see!” you said, pointing out the window. “A very nice one, too.” Cheyenne’s arm was stuck in her sleeve, her little eyebrows furrowing in frustration. You stooped down next to her to pull her free. “Did you name him?”
“Uh huh,” the little girl smiled at you as she sat down to take her boots off. “Frosty, like in the song.”
“That’s a perfect name,” you said, recalling the afternoon before yesterday, when Ryan and Jimmy had played a bunch of kid friendly Christmas songs to keep the kids out of Taylor’s hair while you helped her and Aunt Holly with some of the baking.
The door opened again, a rush of cold air blowing in as Ryan stepped inside. “‘Mornin’, bug,” he said, eyes bright and wide awake from the icy temperature. He removed his hat, his long hair askew. Morning, Ryan.  “Merry Christmas.” He wiped his boots off before bending down to undo the laces, tattooed fingers working nimbly once they were free of his gloves. You rose back to your full height as he took a step to close the distance..
You felt the cold coming off of him but still only wanted him closer. “Merry Christmas, Ryan.” You raked your fingers through his hair and behind his ear.  “You three were up ealy,” you said, eyes never leaving his.
He shrugged with a grin. “Frosty i’nt gonna build himself,” he said before turning to his accomplices. “Right guys?”
“Right!” They answered in unison.
“Right.” He turned back to you. This man.
“Right.” You agreed, nodding as your smile turned into a laugh. You draped both arms over his shoulders, twirling the curl at the nape of his neck around your finger as you leaned into him. “Why don’t you go get warmed up,” you suggested, and I’ll get some breakfast started and-”
“Is that mistletoe?” Evan was staring at the two of you, pointing to the bundle of greenery hanging in the doorway above your heads. You hadn’t seen it before, nor had you realized that you’d gotten as close to him as you had, or that he’d placed both of his frozen hands on your hips. It is. “You know it’s poisonous, right?” He asked, matter of factly.
You and Ryan looked at each other before bursting into a laugh that had you collapsing into the frosty fabric of his coat, his hands rubbing slowly up and down your back as you both looked back up at one another. “That so?” Ryan asked, Evan nodding emphatically. “And who told you that, your mama?”
“Yeah,” came Taylor’s voice from the kitchen doorway, the lights from the tree glowing on her rounded cheeks. “Sound familiar, Ry?” She quirked an eyebrow as Evan and Cheyenne scrambled passed her, one on either side. She touched both of their sandy-haired heads as they headed upstairs to change into warm clothes.
Ryan laughed, shaking his head. “Yeah,” he said with a nod. “It might sound a little familiar.”
“That’s what he told me,” Taylor answered your question before you could ask it. “When we were kids, and I was a young, hopelessly romantic seven year old pining her pigtails off for Bobby Hartshorne, sayin’ that I hoped I got to kiss’m under the mistletoe. And then here comes Ryan,” she gestured with mock annoyance at her closest cousin who grinned mischievously. “Tellin’ me kissin’ is gross and mistletoe is poison.”
“I did say that,” he admitted with a chuckle.
“How romantic of you, Ry,” you said, barely keeping the smirk from your face.
“Well,” Taylor clapped him on the shoulder before smiling at you. “Glad to see that some things change.” She winked and then headed over to help herself to the coffee you’d made.
Without taking his eyes from yours, he spoke quietly and pulled you closer. “Rules are rules,” he said, nose brushing yours before you felt his lips steal the breath from your lungs. “Poison or not.” His fingers flexed around your hips as your hands found their way over his jawbone and up into his hair.
The kiss was quick but you felt it all throughout your bones. “Love you, Ryan,” you told him, knocking your nose against his again. “Let’s get some coffee, huh?”

The Other Swan Part 6
Tumblr media
“Hey mom, I'm loving it here.” I answered my phone when my mom rang me. Bella had been back in Forks for two days but was staying with the Cullen’s. “Never thought I would hear you say that one. I thought Forks would be the last place you would love.” She laughed into the phone. I shook my head as I walked around my room. I thought about Seth and about the BBQ that caused me and him to feel much better. I have accepted the bond and him and now all that’s left is to get to know Seth more. I'm not ready for another relationship. “Yeah well I met someone,” I bit my lip, even though I'm not ready for another relationship doesn’t mean that he is isn’t attractive, and knowing about imprinting has just put life into perspective for me. Mom giggled from the other end. “Well then I will have to come up there and meet him.” She and I laughed before we hung up. Seth had made me promise that I wouldn’t leave the house today. He said something about newborns and even he wasn’t going to be part of the action. So, for the weekend while the Cullen’s and the pack fought an army of newborn vampires. I sat nervously in my room watching the window for any trace that the boys had finished up and had come to get me. Sam wasn’t letting Seth do anything, he wouldn’t even let hm go on patrol with other boys, said he needs to focus on schoolwork and be at least 16 before he can go out patrolling for intruders. My phone ringing the next day caused me to jump before racing to pick it up. It was Leah. “Is he alright?” I asked her frantically. She laughed at me. “You know for someone who claims that they don’t like him you sure care a lot.” I rolled my eyes even though I knew she couldn’t see me, “Yes, he’s fine, Jake has been hurt. The whole right side of his body has been shattered by a newborn; Carlisle is with him now just thought I should let you know. Seth is on his way to come and get you.” I nodded and thanked her before hung up and pulled on my boost and an extra winter jacket. I didn’t have to wait long before Seth came bounding up to the tree line. He laid down allowing me to climb not his back before I pressed myself closer to Seth as he took off. When we got to billy’s Seth let me off and I ran as fast as I could to the house. The pack were all standing around outside when Seth followed me. I could hear Jake screaming from outside and I felt Seth wrap his arms around my waist pulling me close to him as I sobbed into his chest. “Doc's rebreaking his bones.” I lifted my head up as Embry spoke. I noticed Bella here now too. She looks horrified at the news. “Why'd he have to butt in? I could've taken that tick...” Leah was pacing, she looked angry at the world but what’s new. I spun in Seth’s arms to look around at everyone. Emily stood behind Billy with her hand on his shoulder, everyone else was either sitting or standing around the porch to the Black house. “Oh, give it a rest, Leah.” Paul interrupted Leah’s rambling before Carlisle and Sam walk out of the door causing everyone to look up and take notice of them. “The worst is over. He'll be alright.” Carlisle told billy as he started for his car. “I gave him some morphine, but his body temperature will burn it off soon. I'll come back to set up a drip.” “Thank you.” Billy said close to tears, even though he knows that his son would be fine. “He's asking for you.” Carlisle tells Bella as he jumps into his car and speeds off. Bella walks inside and I look from wolf to wolf and imprintee, everyone has the same look on their faces. She better not hurt him again. She’s my sister and even I am hoping she won’t hurt him again. “Did you want to head off?” Seth whispered in my ear. I shook my head knowing the whole pack needed everyone there while Jake healed. I stayed in Seth’s arms though, I knew the pack could hear what was being said but I just didn’t care, what they were talking about was their own problem. Bella remerged shortly after shaking her head and getting in her truck. She spoke to no one as she sped off. I shook my head at my sister as Emily walked over to Seth and I. “Did you want a lift home Skye?” she asked me, I turned my head to Seth slightly before his arms tightened around me. “I was going to ask mom if she could stay on the rez tonight, I'm sure she doesn’t want to be alone.” Seth said and Emily nodded. Seth, Leah and I started to walk back to their place, Seth held my hand tightly as we walked. Sue was surprised to see me there when we got back though. “Oh god, thank god my babies are alright.” She pulled Seth and Leah into a bone crushing hug. Leah pushed her off and walked away upstairs. Seth hugged his mother back though when they both turned to me. “Can Skye stay the night mom?” Seth looked at Sue as I stood there awkwardly looking at the floor. “Of course she can, I’ll get you a tooth brush and a spare towel, I'm sure you’ll want to relax after today.” I nodded my thanks to her as she took off upstairs in search of a spare toothbrush and towel for me. “You can take the bed and ill sleep down here.” He told me, I shook my head and took his hand. “I thought we could try sleeping in the same bed, together.” He blushed and started to stutter. It was seriously cute though. In the next couple of days Charlie and I received the invitation to Edward and Bella’s wedding. I was squealing with delight and immediately called Seth. “Please tell me you got one too and I don’t need to bring you as a plus one because I know wolves and vampires don’t get along.” I took a large breath after I spoke, and I could hear Seth laughing in the phone. “Yes, I've been invited, we will all be there. Oh, hang on a second Emily wants to talk to you.” I heard rustling on the other side. “You, me, Leah, we are going to Port Angeles tomorrow to find dresses.” Emily said to me. “I'm not wearing a dress and you can’t make me.” I heard Leah yell from somewhere in the Uley house. She and Emily still weren’t on great terms, but Leah was starting to come around, Emily was her favourite cousin after all. “Doesn’t matter just come with us.” “Yes I will be ready. Although you’ll have to pick me up from Seth’s I think I see him in the forest.” “Anyone know where Seth has gone?” I heard Emily ask the pack. “Skye’s.” I think it was Embry I heard. “Yeah he’ll be there, I’ll see you soon.” Emily hung up Seth’s phone before I quickly packed my bag and took off outside. “Bye Dad ill be back later tomorrow or the next day, ill let you know!” and I raced out the door before he could give me a response. Once Seth and I got to Sam and Emily’s place he went behind a tree and transformed before joining me on the walk to the front door. Emily flung the front door open before she walked out and pulled me in for a hug. “I miss when you’re not here, all the testosterone it kills me.” She told me dramatically before she pulled me inside leaving Seth outside on the porch. I laughed at her and followed her into the kitchen, I knew she meant she likes when I'm there to help her cook because I'm seriously going to consider putting these boys on a diet if they keep eating the way they do. I noticed Jake was sat at the counter and I waked up and gave him a gentle hug. “You look like your feeling better.” I observed as I threw my bag down on the floor by the door and pulled on an apron ready to help Emily with whatever she needed. “Yeah still a bit stiff and still off patrol for a while, but Seth is picking up my slack. But I can’t go to your sister’s wedding I'm sorry.” He looked sad and for a second I couldn’t tell if it was because Bella chose Edward or if he thought he was letting me down by not going. I pulled him not my side again. “It’s okay Jake, I understand, she chose Edward, I would have loved to have you as a brother in law, but you know I really cant say anything, she’s older anyway.” He nodded and Emily started handing me ingredients for choc chip muffins. “you’ll still be my sister in law when you marry Seth, so that’s okay. Even if Seth and I aren’t really blood related, he’s still my brother.” I blushed at his comment of me marrying Seth and he chuckled at me before going and joining the other boys. “You know you don’t have to have romantic feelings for Seth, right? He’s a big boy and can handle himself if you just want to be friends.” I nodded my head as we made the muffins. “I know, but I'm starting to have those feelings and its scaring me. I just don’t know how to act on it.” I blushed when I told her I might be starting to like Seth as more than just a friend. But then I was reminded of Zach, I couldn’t get the image out of my mind. I was stuck with it for the rest of my life.

Sidney couldn't believe what was happening right now. Zach, a sophomore rookie, was explaining to him, a senior star, how to handle a child during the cancer skate. He’d been doing this for 13 seasons now. He could hear Kris and Geno snickering in the background.
“I’ve got this, ZAR,” he finally snapped. “I’ve done skates with cancer kids before. I should be the one instructing you, not the other way around.”
Zach sighed. “I know but…”
“Zach, quit bothering Sid about Andy,” Jen instructed. “There is a reason Kat didn’t put you with him.” Jen turned to the rest of the team. “The kids are here now. You will be going out into the concourse with signs with your child’s name on it. You’ll help them lace up and then just have fun on the ice. Give them a tour too if they want. The parents are here and will be in the stands. This is a day for them to feel normal and special. Lots of pictures will be taken. Have fun and be nice,” She glanced to some of the younger guys, “And appropriate.”
The guys walked out and saw a group of children ranging from the ages of 4 to 12 waiting for them. Besides the players having signs with the kids’ name, the kids had on jerseys of their respective players.
Sidney could feel Zach’s eyes following him as he approached a boy wearing 87. He looked to be about 8 with darker brown hair and a Penguin’s ball cap. He tightly gripped a hockey stick that was clearly a hand-me-down one. Sidney noticed how all the other children interacted together but this boy just looked around. Setting the sign down, Sid walked over to the boy.
“Hi there. You must me Andrew.”
The boy nodded. “You can call me Andy. Only my doctor calls me Andrew. I know this is skating but can we can practice some hockey, Mr. Crosby? Momma told me I could bring my stick.”
Sid smiled and led the boy towards the locker room. “You can call me Sid, and I’d love to practice hockey with you, Andy. Would you like a tour first? I know most of the other kids are just going to skate and then get a tour.”
“So this way we can have more ice to practice?” Sidney nodded. “Okay.”
“We can start in the locker room so you can drop your stuff off.”
Andy nodded and followed Sidney. He was quite compared to the other kids. “So this is the locker room,” Sid said as they entered. “You can put your stick over there in my spot. The showers are to the left  and to the right is the entrance to the ice along with Coach’s office. We can go see the training room next.”
Andy was quiet as the began walking. “Have you ever been here before?”
Andy nodded. “I came here in February for a game. This place isn’t as cool MSG though.”
Sid smirked. “No way. Only a Rangers fan would say that.” Andy was quiet. “No…”
“I was born one. Only since February have momma and I been watching Penguins games regularly. We‘ve been watching hockey forever though. I’m named after Andy Bathgate. He was an awesome Rangers player.”
Sid smiled and pushed the training room door open. “Did you know Andy Bathgate played for Penguins towards the end of his career?”
“Really? That’s cool. Can we play hockey now?”
Sidney nodded. “How long have you been playing? That stick seems pretty rough.”
“I started when I was like 2 or 3. I had to stop playing when I was 6 and got diagnosed with my Wilms tumor. The stick was Uncle Z’s. Momma tries to play pickup with me at home with foam sticks and ball, but the doctor doesn’t like that. Momma just wants me happy though.”
“She sounds like a good mom. Do you need me to help you lace up?” Andy nodded. “You talk a lot about your momma. What about your dad?”
Andy shrugged as he handed Sid his skates. “He’s not around. It’s just me and momma. Uncle Z lives with us too.” Andy stumbled a little before Sid caught him. “Momma always says it’s okay to ask for help even if you don’t want it but need it.”
Sid smiled. “Your momma is a very smart woman.”
“She’s here. You can meet her later.”
Sidney helped Andy onto the ice and led him to an open area away from where the remaining kids were skating. They passed back and forth for a bit. “Why don’t we skate and pass. Standing here is too easy for you,” he commented.
He watched Andy’s technique, which was very good for a kid his age. He had good vision compared to others. Just like he had. “You’re really good.”
For the first time that day, Andy truly smiled. “That means a lot, Sid. Thank you.”
Sid went and grabbed a net and started helping him shoot. Sid spent every second analyzing the boy’s potential. That’s when he noticed the stick. “Your stick is fractured, Andy. It’s going to break soon.”
Andy shrugged. This knowledge must not have been new to him. “I have some extras if you want one.”
“But they’re your sticks. Nobody touches your sticks. Nobody.”
Sidney shrugged. “And nobody should play with a fractured, wooden stick. Yet here we are. I’ll be happy to make the exception for anyone as talented as you.”
“You really think I have talent, Mr. Crosby?”
Sid nodded. “I see a little me in you.”
—————
They were the last ones left, and somehow Sid was not at all surprised to see Zach waiting for them in the locker room. “Hi Uncle Z,” Andy shouted.
Sid froze and glanced between the two. Zach’s earlier reaction made sense now. Sidney felt stupid for not putting two and two together. The thing was though, he had met Zach’s brother and sister, and they had no children.
Zach grinned as he gave Andy a big hug. “You looked like you were having a ton of fun out there. Did you have a good time?”
Andy nodded. “Sid is really nice. He taught me some of his tricks. He even gave me one of his sticks to keep and use,” Andy shoved the stick in Zach’s face. Sid handed him the wooden one. “Sid didn’t want me to break your stick. I agreed with him.”
Zach smiled and handed Andy his bag. “Well that was very nice of him. Your mom is outside the locker room. Tell Sidney bye.”
Andy shook his head. “Sid agreed to meet momma.”
Sidney wanted to say that he had been informed that he was going to be meeting Andy’s mother and that he had not explicitly volunteered to. It didn’t matter though even if Zach’s face said differently. Andy grabbed Sidney’s hand and dragged him out of the locker room. Outside stood a woman that made his mouth drop. The woman was simply beautiful.
“Momma, this is Sidney Crosby.”
Sid shook her hand. “Y/N Reese. Thank you for making my son’s day a good one. He was a tad worried when he found out my cousin was with a different kid. He’s shy and aloof around most.”
Cousins. Close cousins then. Sid smiled. “He’s a great kid, both on the ice and just in general. He talks very highly of you. I’d say you’re his favorite person in the world.”
Y/N chuckled, making Sid soften on the inside. “Well that’s very kind of you, but I believe he looks up to you and Zuccarello more. I was just happy you got him practicing again.”
“Have you thought about getting him lessons or in a league? He has the potential.”
She shrugged. “The doctor tells me no. I know kids with cancer can be fragile but Andy has always been good. The tumor is gone and there hasn’t been any growth for over a year. I don’t know why the doctor is still so stubborn. All he does is hit on me. God that’s probably why,” She paused, realizing what she had just said. “I am so sorry. I shouldn’t have unloaded all of that on you.”
“It’s okay,” Sid smiled. “Life is hard, and I bet especially as a single parent.”
“He said a lot, didn’t he?”
“Kinda. Once he warmed up to me—“
“—he didn’t stop talking,” Y/N finished. “Andy is like that. Always has been. Today was the first time in a while I saw my son happy and smiling. I really have to thank you for that, Sidney.”
“It was completely my pleasure.”
“I’m hungry, momma,” Andy moaned. Sidney has been so entrapped in his conversation with Y/N that he forgot that Andy and Zach were right there.
Y/N nodded. “Tell Sidney goodbye and thank you.”
Andy hugged Sidney. “Thank you for making today really awesome, Sidney. We should do this again sometime.”
Sidney chuckled. “I’d like that a lot, Andy.”
Y/N helped Andy zip up his coat. “Are you coming with us, Zach?”
Zach nodded. “I’ll be out in a sec. I need to talk to Sid about our game tomorrow against the Rangers.”
“Is it here?” Andy asked. The two players nodded. Andy tugged on his mom’s arm. “Can we go, momma? Can we?”
Sidney watched Y/N hesitate. “I don’t know, Andy. It’s awful last minute to get tickets and you’ve been complaining about your stomach and head hurting and you haven’t been sleeping or eating well.”
“But I did fine today!” he argued.
Sidney spoke up. “Tickets would be no problem. I have a box you guys can sit in. It’s private so you can easily relax in it. Then security can bring you guys down after the game so you can see Zach and meet the rest of the team.”
“You don’t have to do that, Mr. Crosby,” Y/N protested.
“I insist.”
“Take the nice man’s offer, momma,” Andy whispers. “We’d just end up watching the game on TV anyway.”
Y/N was quiet as she thought about Sidney’s offer. “Zach has my number for when ever you make a decision. I don’t want to keep you from your dinner any longer,” He turned to Zach, who had been very quiet since Sid’s offer. “We can discuss the game later or tomorrow. Go have fun with your family.”
They waved goodbye to him one last time before leaving. Moments like this is when Sidney wished his family was close by or he had one of his own. Sometimes he just wanted people who looked forward to him coming home for dinner.
———
“You looked liked having fun today,” Geno said, sitting on the coach with Anna, watching Sid roll a ball to Nikita to shoot. “Andrew good kid?”
Sid nodded. “Andy was the best. Zach was making such a big deal because he is cousins with Andy’s mom and lives with them. I met her this afternoon. She’s very nice.”
“Pretty?”
“Yes. Very.”
“Is his father in life?” Anna asked.
Sid shrugged. “I don’t think so. Andy said he wasn’t around and it was just him, his mom, and Zach. I have no idea how much or if he is involved with them.”
Anna started speaking in Russian to Geno when Sidney’s phone vibrated.
ZAR: Is it okay if I give Y/N your number?
Sid: Yeah. I trust her.
ZAR: Okay.
ZAR: Thanks for being good with Andy today. You made this probably the best day of his life.
ZAR: I knew I should have trust you but he means a lot to me. Andy has had a rough road, and Y/N always gets scared his cancer will come back even though 9 of 10 kids have no complications with his type of cancer. Ever since I started living with them, those became my fears too.
“Everything good?” Anna asked. Sid nodded. “You want pizza for dinner? I think it is pizza night.”
“I don’t want to intrude.”
“Bah,” Geno spat, “We have been friends for over decade. You can’t invade life. Plus, being honest, we not want you eating alone.”
Anna nodded in agreement. Sid sighed in surrender. There was no point in arguing. If he did, who knows what crazy scheme Anna and Evgeni would come up with to get him to stay. They’d probably involve Nikita too. Anna called in the pizza and Geno went to get them drinks.
Sid felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He expected it to be Zach, one of the other guys, or even his parents or sister. Instead, he was greeted by an unknown number.
Unknown: Hi Sidney. It’s Y/N Reese, Zach’s cousin. He gave me your number.
Unknown: I promise I’m not going to sell it or give it out.
Sidney chuckled. He didn’t believe her to be the type of person to be motivated by money. She gave off a warm and humble impression.
Sid: Haha I believe you. Zach told me he gave you my number. I trust you.
Y/N: Thank goodness. I feel like that would’ve otherwise made tomorrow awkward.
Sidney perked up at this. “Special lady friend?” Geno asked, taking over for Sid in the role of playing with Nikita. Sid nodded but didn’t look up from his phone as he scooted towards “his” chair.
Sid: Does this mean you guys are coming tomorrow and are taking me up on my offer?!
Y/N: Yes. It took a lot of convincing from Andy, and Zach too. I just worry a lot with him because of the past, but I need to let him be a kid.
Sid: You’re a single parent. You and Andy have gone through more than anyone should by this point in life. It makes sense to be overprotective. I think you’re doing great though.
After hitting send the thought cake to Sidney that maybe, just maybe, he was flirting in a very weird way with Y/N.
Y/N: That’s so sweet of you. You’re so much nicer than I imagined.
Y/N: Not that I didn’t imagine you being nice. You have always came off as a nice guy and Zach talks highly of you. I just didn’t expect all of this.
Sid: It’s alright. I can’t wait to see you guys tomorrow.
Y/N: Honestly, me either. How do we access the seats?
Sid: Just go to the box office and say you’re the Reese family and are there for box S87C.
Y/N: Wow. I would’ve never guessed that was your box. The number does not give it away at all. Andy and I will see you after the game tomorrow. Good luck. I hope the Rangers win ;)
Sid: Haha. Thanks. I look forward to seeing you guys too.

Falling | Jonah Marais
Summary: Jonah falls in love with you, but it’s hard to love him back because of your past. Based off their song falling
Warnings: swearing
It’s hard to love when so many people have hurt you. It’s hard to trust when everyone has left you. It’s hard to open up to people because you’re afraid of the disappointment and betrayal that always follows when you fall in love. That’s why you don’t. You don’t fall in love anymore, because it’s too painful.
“OMG y/n get out of bed! We’re gonna go see Why Don’t We today!” Your best friend Halie yells as she’s shaking you awake. Halie is dating Zach and is always trying to hook you up with one of the guys. Especially Jonah. She could tell Jonah had eyes for you. You however, didn’t see it.
“You go have fun, I’m tired. Plus you see Zach almost everyday why are you so excited all of the sudden?” You ask.
“Because Jonah is extra lonely lately. Come on y/n please. He’s the only one that’s single.”
“Halie, I’ve told you a million times, I’m not interested. I’m done with relationships.”
“Fine, but can you at least come with me to the meet and greet tonight? I don’t wanna go alone. I wanna have a friend with me when they go on stage.” Halie pleads
“Ugh fine, if it’ll get you to shut up” you joke.
“Yay! I love you!”
“I love you too Halie. Now come on, let’s get ready”
You guys get to the venue and Zach and Corbyn comes out to greet you guys. Zach gives you a hug then turns to Halie and kisses her. Corbyn walks up to you and puts his arm on your shoulder and looks at you. “What’s up y/n?” Corbyn smiles
“Nothing much Corbyn” you smile. “Hey, is Christina here? I wanted to ask her about her latest makeup video.”
“Um yeah, she’s upstairs. Let me take you to her.” You guys follow Corbyn up a long flight of stairs. Halie and Zach are holding hands behind you. Finally you get to the room where Christina is and welcome her with a friendly smile.
“Omg hi y/n! I haven’t seen you in so long!” Christina yells.
“I know! I’m sorry, I’ve kinda been married to my bed lately” you joke. You guys start talking about makeup as Corbyn is playing with Christina’s hair. Zach and Halie are cuddled up on the couch talking. And out of the corner of your eye you see him. Jonah Marais. He’s wearing an oversized black hoodie that says why don’t we on it, ripped jeans, and of course his maroon adidas beanie. You catch him staring at you, but you push it to the side.
“Y/n!” You hear one of the guys yell. You turn around to see Daniel holding his arms out for a hug.
“Hi Danny!” You smile as you go in for a hug.
“I’ve missed you, why don’t you come see us that often?” Daniel frowns.
“I’ve been meaning to, I promise. I’ve just been busy” you reply.
“No she hasn’t. She never leaves her bed except for when she has to go to work” halie cuts in.
“Hey, I’m here now aren’t I?” You snap back.
“Well, I’m glad you’re here. We’ve all missed you.” Danny says with the cutest smile ever.
“He’s right” you hear someone say. You look up to see the curly haired cutie Jack. “We’ve all missed you and Halie both. I’m glad you made it” jack says as he goes in to hug you.
“I’ve missed you guys too. I promise I’ll come and visit you guys more often” you smile. Everyone breaks into their own conversations within each other. You’re standing by Daniel and Jack talking about Fortnite with them. But you catch Halie talking to Jonah. You wonder what they’re talking about.
“Just go talk to her you coward” you hear Halie say as she pushes Jonah in your direction. Jonah stumbles over to you.
“Um hi y/n” Jonah says as he’s scratching the back of his neck.
“Hey, what’s up Jonah?” You smile at him. Noticing how awkward he’s being.
“So, we still have a couple of hours til the show starts and everyone wants something from Starbucks, did you maybe wanna come with me?” Jonah asks shyly.
“Yeah, sure. Let me grab my coat real quick.” You say as you shoot daggers towards Halie. Halie winks back and smiles. You roll your eyes as you head towards the door with Jonah.
Once you and Jonah arrive at Starbucks he turns and looks at you. “You know y/n I feel like we don’t get to have much time to ourselves. I wanna get to know you better.” Jonah says as he looks down at you.
“Well, what do you like to do?” Jonah asks.
“I really like to sleep” You smile.
Jonah laughs. “But seriously, what do you like to do when you’re not working?”
“I like to cook. I like seeing ingredients and finding a way to make a meal out of it” you say confidently.
“Oh that’s really cool. You should make me something sometime.” Jonah says with excitement.
“Oh yeah? Like what?” You ask
“You can never go wrong with a nice steak and potato dinner” Jonah says smiling at you.
“You want a steak dinner?” I was expecting you to ask me to make you cookies or something.” You say sounding surprised.
“I mean, only if that’s okay with you. I don’t want you to do anything you’re uncomfortable with”
“You know what? I’m up for the challenge Marais. I’ll cook you the best steak dinner you’ve ever had” You say proudly. You look up at Jonah and he has the biggest smile on his face.
“I can’t fucking wait” Jonah smiles. Once you order everyone’s drinks you and Jonah head back to the venue.
“Where’s Jonah and y/n?” Corbyn asks worriedly.
“Probably making out” Halie laughs
“No, but seriously they’ve been gone for almost an hour now” Daniel frowns. “I want my freaking apple juice”
“Starbucks has apple juice?” Jack asks
“Yeah, they have them in those little bottles” Daniel smiles. Just thinking of apple juice makes him happy.
“I swear to god if they’re out there having sex-“ Zach starts, but’s get cut off once he sees you and Jonah walk through the door.
“Excuse me?” Jonah says. “We were not having sex”
“I know, I was just playing” Zach says as he stands up and gets his and Halie’s drinks from our hands.
“So? How did things go?” Halie asks as she walks up to you.
“What do you mean? We got coffee”
“Yeah I know, but did he say anything? Did he try to make a move?”
“Omg no Halie. Stop. It was nothing like that” you said.
“Whatever you sayyyy” halie says as she turns her back towards you.
The concert is about to start and the guys hook you and Halie up with some front row seats. The guys come on stage and immediately start singing Trust Fund Baby. They perform a couple more songs. You and Halie were jumping around, singing, having the time of your lives. Then they start to perform Friends. Daniel starts the song and soon Jonah starts singing. He’s running around the stage having a blast. The chorus comes on and they’re all singing and dancing. But then Jonah kneels down on stage in front of you and points at you and sings “or I can come alone, just me you on our own” as he winks at you. You can’t help but blush as you look back at the handsome creature in front of you. You took in Jonah’s appearance one more time. You were staring at his gorgeous 6’1 figure. His brown hair and brown eyes were making you fell some type of way. Realizing maybe you liked Jonah a little bit. A few more songs play and the band takes a minute to talk to the crowd. “This next song goes out to a few special girls in the crowd. This is Just to See You Smile” Jonah announced. You look at Halie and see her with tears in her eyes as she’s looking up and admiring Zach. The guys start the song and Zach wouldn’t take his eyes off of Halie. They were all having a great time and singing the chorus together. Then Jack started singing the bridge of the song. You realize that when jack sang “attracted to your everything” Jonah wouldn’t take his eyes off of you. You blush even more. Starting to question when this connection between you and Jonah started.
The show ends and you, Halie and Christina were waiting on the tour bus for the guys. “Did you see the way Jonah was looking at y/n?” Christina cheered.
“Yes! I kept telling her that he liked her but she wouldn’t believe me” Halie complained.
“Guys, it was just an act. He didn’t mean any of it. I mean yeah, it was cute. But he doesn’t have feelings for me” you protested
“Idk y/n it seemed pretty real to me” Said Christina. After a while the guys finally came back on the bus.
“Hey y/n, how did you like the show?” Jonah asked as he winked at you. Immediately blushing, you reply “it was pretty good. Even though you were flirting with me the entire time”
“What? You don’t like that? I guess I won’t flirt with you anymore”
“Hey, I never said I didn’t like it” you smiled. That immediately cheered Jonah up making him smile ear to ear.
“You know y/n, I’ve been wanting to ask you this for a while now... but do you maybe wanna get some dinner with me sometime?” Jonah asked blushing
“Wait, are you asking me out on a date?”
“I mean... yeah” Jonah said shyly
“Do I have to cook the dinner?” You asked
Jonah laughed “no, no, this one is on me. I promise”
“Okay Marais, you got yourself a date” you smiled. Hoping you wouldn’t regret it. Then again, it was just a date. Nothing serious.

Why Oh Why pt.4 (Scott Reed x Reader)
•6/23/18•
part 3
A/N: I've decided to finally end this series at part 6 :( I will totally continue writing anything for Scott or someone else. Just request and I'll get to it xx. Also, people were wondering what Natalie looks like so just imagine she looks like Veronica from Riverdale.
Warnings: Drugging
I began walking to Monty's house, though my feet were already hurting because of my heels. Scott was texting me the whole way there, I guess he wanted to make sure that I got there safely or Zach probably told him to check on me.
Scott: Bold
You: Normal
Are you sure you're alright out there alone?
Yes, Scott. I'm fine. It's only 2 blocks after all.
Are you almost here now?
Man, go have fun and enjoy the party. I'll be okay.
I don't care about the party right now. I care that you get here okay.
Alright. I'm saying bye now, Scottyyy. Go enjoy the party.
Y/N. I'm serious. Where are you?
I'll come and find you if you don't answer.
Hello???
Fuck my life. Y/N, answer me. I'm worried.
Oh my god, Scott. I'm 16 years old. I can walk two blocks on my own. I'm trying to get there as fast as I can, it doesn't help that you're texting me every second.
Just tell me when you get here.
I decide to ignore him and put my phone back in my pocket. Heartbreak is so hard, and him worrying about me this much isn't helping me move on from him completely. He makes things so hard and I regret getting such an attractive but also a sweetheart for a boyfriend. His relationship skills have no flaws in them and I don't think I would be able to break up with him on my own.
I arrive at Monty's house and open the door. I'm instantly greeted by the smell of alcohol and marijuana. Why am I here? I barely come to parties even though I'm on the cheerleading squad. The only reason I came here is to have fun with my friends, but I'm instantly regretting it.
"Hey," I hear a voice next to me say.
I look up and find a guy. I never saw him before, but he wasn't bad looking. He didn't look too drunk or anything like that, so I decide to spark up a conversation with this guy.
I smile at him, "Hi, I'm Y/N."
"Name's Cody, why are you alone?"
I shrug, "Parties aren't my thing at all. I would honestly rather be at home by myself, but I decided to go outside of my comfort zone for now."
"That's understandable," He points behind him to the kitchen, "Do you want to go get a drink? I'm sure that would help you loosen up."
I hesitate for a moment but nod my head. I need to live a little. Last year, I always went to parties and was the life of them. I'll forget about any problems I have and just go with the flow.
He grabs my hand and leads me to the kitchen. I spot Justin talking to a few people and he turns to look at me. He looks shocked but doesn't say anything and continues to socialize. I let Cody fix my drink and he tries to hand it to me, but I decided I should go talk to Justin.
I look at him, "Can you hold it for a short second? I need to talk to someone."
I walk up to Justin, "Hi, Jay-Jay"
"What do you want now?" He looks at me with an emotionless face.
"I just wanna talk to you, Justin. I'm really sorry about earlier but I miss you," I say grabbing his hand, "Please, stop being mad at me."
He shakes his head, "We can talk on Monday. Fridays are my fun days and you're kind of ruining that, Y/N."
I scoff and shake my head at him with disbelief, "Well talk to me when you think you actually have time for your best friend."
I turn on my heel and walk away from him and back to Cody. I snatch my drink from him and down it with one go. I'm so over today and I don't want to remember anything from it. After 20 minutes, I start feeling dizzy and woozy, but I conclude it's from the way I downed the drink.
"Another?" I ask Cody while looking at him with puppy eyes.
"Woah, you should slow down," Cody says with his hand on my shoulder, "You're really small, you shouldn't  drink that much."
I lean into him, "Can you pour me another? I'm just really in the need for it."
He leaves to go get another drink and I spot Scott with Natalie. I should maybe go talk to them and see how they're doing.
I stumble up to them, "Hey guys, how's the party going for you?"
"Jeez, Y/L/N. Are you already drunk? How many drinks have you had?" Natalie questions me while laughing.
I start to get insanely tired, "I swear, I only had one. Cody's the one who's been making my drinks so I have no idea what drinks he put in it."
Scott got a confused and concerned look on his face, "Who's Cody?"
I feel my legs start to give out and feel someone hurry and grab my waist to keep me up. I look up to see who it is, and I notice it's Cody.
"Cody, I'm sleepy. Can we leave?" I say falling into him and lazily wrapping my arms around his neck.
He nods and pulls me tighter against him, "Yeah, we can go to my place."
I feel someone else grab me from Cody. I was too tired to really fight against this person.
"No, she's not going back to your place. Who the fuck are you?" A familiar voice yells at Cody.
I realize that it's Scott who has his arm around my waist and is yelling at this guy I just met. He seems angry. They began arguing loudly about where I'm going and who's who. I notice Justin coming over from the kitchen.
He looks from me to Cody, then to Scott, "What happened here?"
"I think this asshole drugged Y/N. She's tired and can barely stand after the one drink he gave her. I don't think it's a coincidence." Scott tells Justin looking even angrier.
Justin takes a look at me and notices the state I'm in. I can tell all of him being mad at me all day, gets thrown out the window. He realizes that I was drugged and I could've gotten really hurt. He punches Cody right in the face, knocking him out instantly.
He turns to look at me and Scott, "Should we take her home?"
"Both of us?" Scott asks while picking me up bridal style, "Won't her mom be upset?"
Justin shakes his head, "No, her mom loves the both of us. Come on."
Scott looks at Natalie, "I'm sorry babe, I need to take Y/N home and make sure she's alright."
"You will not be taking her home while you leave me here," Natalie yells at him, "She got herself in this situation, Scott. Who takes drinks from someone she doesn't know? Let Justin take care of it."
"I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight without making sure she's all the way okay. We'll talk tomorrow, I promise." Scott says and kisses Natalie.
He signals Justin to follow him and walks out the door with me in his arms. When I feel the cold air, I shiver a little. Justin notices and takes his jacket off, and covers me with it. He opened the passenger door of his car for Scott and me to get in and takes his seat on the drivers' side.
I have snuggle into Scott and have an urge to fall asleep. I didn't get far because he gently shook me and asked me to stay awake until we get to my house. I nod my head and just look up to admire him. I don't think I've ever seen someone so beautiful without putting any effort into his looks.
I feel Justin stroke my hair, "Y/N, I am so sorry for not listening to you at the party. I should've known that you didn't know that prick, you don't even drink. I was just so mad at you for hitting me in front of everyone, I just didn't want to be bothered with you. Something could have happened to you tonight and I would have regretted it for the rest of my life. I love you so fucking much and I'm so sorry."
"It's okay Justin. You didn't know. I love you too" I replied tiredly.
Scott kisses my forehead, "Shit, Y/N. You had me so worried. When that random guy just came up and tried to take you to his place, I lost all self-control I had. Please don't ever do something like that again. If you didn't come up to me and Natalie, he could've taken you back to his house. That's so scary to think about."
I laugh softly, "You guys are giving me these little speeches like I'm about to die. I'm okay, Scotty. You were there to stop me, and I want to thank you for that."
We arrive at my house and Justin runs to the passenger door to let Scott carry me in. We walked up to my driveway in complete silence. I was slowly falling asleep in Scott's arms.
He strokes my hair, "Y/N, stay awake until we get you in the house. When we take your makeup off and get you some comfortable clothes then you can sleep."
We get to the door and Justin rings the doorbell. After a minute or two, my mother opens the door. She looks happy to see both Justin and Scott. She loves them to death and I could actually see why.
Scott spoke up, "Hi, Mrs. Y/L/N. I'm bringing her home because of an ordeal at the party. She's not in a good state so can we take care of her for a few then leave?"
"No. Can you guys stay the night with me?" I look at my mother, "Mommy can they stay?"
She puts on a facade and kisses me on the forehead, "Of course! I was so worried about you tonight, baby. Please don't stay out this late again."
I nod my head and she moves aside and lets me, Scott, and Justin in. Justin goes to the guest closet in my house to find clothes for him and Scott for the night. Scott takes me upstairs to my room and lays me down on the bed. He looks through my drawers and finds me one of his hoodies and basketball shorts that I still had.
"I see you still have these," He states sitting me up to take off my shirt, "That's so adorable. I thought you would've burned them by now."
I yawn and rub my eyes, "I thought about it. I didn't want to get rid of them though. Your clothes mean a lot to me."
He smiles at my words and pushes me back down on the bed gently. He removes my skirt and puts his shorts on me. He grabs a random hair-tie and does his best to put my hair in a bun.
He looks around confused for a moment, "Where are your makeup wipes?"
Justin comes in at the moment he gets done asking, "In her bathroom, drawer farthest to the right."
Scott nods and goes to the bathroom to go get them and Justin undresses and puts on the extra clothes. He lays Scott's clothes down on the bed and plugs his phone up to the charger and gets in bed next to me.
He strokes the little pieces of hair that Scott missed in the bun and kissed my hand, "I'm so happy you're safe, Y/N. I wouldn't know what I would do without my best friend."
"I love you, I always will. You're my best friend." I tell him and kiss his cheek.
Scott comes out of the bathroom and straddles me, but not putting his weight on me. He carefully removes all make makeup and make sure he gets all the places he can get. When it all is removed, he kissed my forehead and gets up to put his spare clothes on.
I look to my left and find Justin already asleep and I small gently seeing his peaceful form. Scott gets in my bed to the right of me, turning the light off on the way. I have gold stars on my ceiling so I could still see him a little.
"I love you, Scott," I say as I kiss him.
I don't wait for a response and instantly fall asleep from the day's events on top of the drugs I was given.
I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met
