So I've just got my hands on the tenth anniversary art book and while the quality of it is very nice and it has a lot of pages, I could swear they said it was going to feature new art and yet I have only found a single illustration that I hadn't seen before.

#there are short stories which I'm assuming are brand new so that is something at least #but otherwise yeah it's literally just some of the game covers #some of the CD covers #a couple of other illustrations that have been featured in other art books over the years #and then a whole bunch of merch art #hmmmm #I don't know what to say honestly #the weird thing to me is that there isn't even a proper contents page #there's a separate sheet of paper that comes with it and acts as an index page #but like why not just have a contents page? #if you don't own any DL merch whatsover then I think this might be a good buy but otherwise I'm not sure there's much point to getting it #if anyone wants me to talk about it a bit more then let me know

I'm sorry I can't watch the new trigun and I never will. it looks so ugly. the vibe is no where near the same and it takes away 90% of the charm of the original and makes it into something totally different. Got three Vinyl’s over the weekend

#I had ordered the clear deluxe Yungblud vinyl a while ago and it came in the mail #and the pink one was the ticket to the concert #I now have two posters of him and two signed art cards from him #since they came with the vinyls #and then I saw Pollyanna #I got their autographs and one of the opening bands autographs on it #honorable mention which is how I found pollyanna so I got all of both bands to sign it #there really weren’t that many people at that concert which while kinda sad was also really cool cause I got to chat with both bands #oh yeah and the sticker on the vinyl was what they put on our merch cause they kept it under the table during the concert so we didn’t have #have to carry it the whole time #had to mark it so they didn’t think it was a random bunch of merch #music #vinyls #vinyl #Yungblud #Pollyanna

and you know i gotta say. the vast majority of the people losing their shit this weekend made it very clear that they do not understand the difference between "artists who want a measure of comfort in their lives" and "the billionaires actually being targeted by phrases like eat the rich." that is such a weird thing to be so proud to announce to the whole entire internet.

it's also extremely weird to behave as though any individual is entitled to an artist's work for free. or that the audience should be the final say in determining what an artist creates. there is a major difference between the betrayal of an artist who produces art and then banks on their social capital to engage in harmful, violent, bigoted behavior (like jk rowling) and the "betrayal" of an artist who decides that they should be or need to be compensated for their work. the latter isn't actually a betrayal at all. it's just a shift.

the thing is that the watcher boys didn't invent capitalism, they didn't invent the streaming model, they didn't invent youtube or patreon. they aren't getting 100% of the money from either. their merch doesn't magically appear as if made by elves while they sleep. their videos don't happen out of nowhere and without incurring bills. they have a business which employs people, and sure, you can say they employ too many people, but do they actually? a bunch of randos on the internet don't actually know that. they don't know these job titles, or how necessary it is to have everyone there. it's pure speculation. the entire company exists within a system they did not invent and are trying to stay afloat in said system while a bunch of assholes on the internet berate them for not acquiescing to their every whim at the expense of their artistic integrity, their ability to compensate their staff fairly, and their ability to keep making art.

and jumping from "i want to continue enjoying this artist's work for free" to "i think people should be fired and the remaining employees should be given greater responsibilities and more tasks to complete" is wild to me. there's nothing leftist in that and so trying to leverage leftist jargon to prove some sort of moral superiority is fucking wild, it's disingenuous, and it's sketchy as hell. you're allowed to be disappointed. you're not magically exempt from being told you're being an asshole if you decide your disappointment entitles you to take part in asshole behavior.

"but we don't want something heavily produced and we don't want these shows" then don't watch! that's it! don't watch! you are not being held hostage and forced to engage with this content. you have the choice not to. throwing a tantrum and launching racist vitriol at steven lim and demanding he step down as CEO shows a level of entitlement and childishness that, frankly, i wish they could have ignored, but they're both kinder & more patient than i am.

anyway congratulations to watcher on their new streaming service and their gorgeous new website, congratulations to the boys on a new step in their careers and on achieving something they've made clear they've wanted for ages, thank you to the boys for all their hard work and for sharing their creativity with us. thank you too for taking such a big and genuinely brave step to no longer be beholden to major corporations and advertisers so you can make the art you want to make. thank you to steven lim for taking so many steps back to keep the company running and for doing your best in a shit economy and while being targeted by this kind of nastiness online. and thank you to the entire team at @wearewatcher for continuing to do amazing work despite being treated like shit by the fan community at large on the internet while you're trying to make a living and create art. you all deserve better than you've been shown of late and i hate that such an exciting moment got overshadowed by so many temper tantrums.

because the whole fucking point, the dream, is getting to make the art that matters to them, without being held back. i'm sorry y'all don't want the heavily produced and high quality shit but your preferences as a member of an audience are not the law by which artists should abide. they are artists and they are free to, and deserve to, make the art they want to make.

New collaboration with Loft & Amnibus was announced for Digimon Adventure!

Details about exact merch will follow soon, but the tweet states that the concept was decided by keeping the idea of 25th Anniversary in focus but the art itself is flower + wedding outfit themed. The collab will start in June which is considered a good month for brides in Japan and so we see many wedding themed anime illustrations get released during this time every year.

Taichi and Agumon are seen holding Edelweiss, with a pattern of the flower drawn beautifully on Taichi's shirt as well. Edelweiss in Japanese Language of Flowers (Hanakotoba) is meant to symbolise 'cherished memories/大切な思い出' and 'courage/勇気', while in Western Language of Flowers it's meant to symbolise 'noble courage' and 'daring' - both of which are apt for our best leader 🧡

Yamato and Gabumon are seen holding Alstroemeria (Lily of the Incas, Peruvian Lily), and while the flower motif is not drawn onto his clothes, Yamato's coat's breast pocket is decorated with the flower as well. In Hanakotoba, Alstroemeria is meant to symbolise 'persistence/持続' or 'longing for the future/未来への憧れ', while in Western Language of Flowers it's meant to symbolise 'friendship' and 'devotion'. All meanings are apt for him imo, but especially persistence and longing for the future are very representative of his arc from the first series till Kizuna.

Sora and Piyomon are seen with Pink Carnations, with the neckline of Sora's jumpsuit lined with a bunch of the flowers. I personally love the visual of Sora in this pink jumpsuit, it plays into her slightly tomboyish yet extremely gentle personality so well! In Hanakotoba carnations symbolise 'innocent and deep love/無垢で深い愛' and pink carnations specifically symbolise 'love of a woman/女性の' 'passionate love/熱愛' and "beautiful gesture/美しいしぐさ'. In Western Language of Flowers carnations symbolise 'fascination' and love'. All meanings are pretty accurate for Sora, but red carnations are used to symbolise Mother's love in Japan so it would've been nice if they threw in a mix of red and pink to hint at her relationship with her mother!

Koushiro and Tentomon are seen holding Violet Sage, which at first glance I thought was Lavender. The flower pattern is also visible on his waistcoat and bowtie, which ties together his outfit very nicely! In Hanakotoba, Sage seems to have many symbolisations, 'respect/尊敬', 'wisdom/知恵', 'good home/良い家庭', and 'family love/家族愛'. But Blue (Violet) Sage specifically signify respect and wisdom. In Western Language of Flowers, Sage symbolises 'esteem', 'wisdom' and 'domestic virtue'. Again, a perfect choice for Koushiro, I personally would prefer to believe that they picked this not because of his crest but because of 'good home' and 'family love' since that part of Koushiro's arc in the first series was probably the most impressionable aspect of his character.

Mimi and Palmon are seen holding baby's breath, with Mimi's dress covered in a pattern of it. Even keeping my bias towards Mimi aside, this is possibly one of the prettiest outfit of hers till date, it genuinely looks like she's about to walk down the aisle as a flower girl for a very happy couple! In Hanakotoba, Baby's Breath or Kasumisou, symbolises 'pure heart/清らかな心', 'innocence/無邪気', 'kindness/親切', and 'happiness/幸福'. In Western Language of Flowers it symbolises 'everlasting love', 'purity of heart', and 'innocence'. All meanings apply to Mimi to the T, but they're also very apt for the whole wedding theme of the merch which makes this particular outfit + flower choice my favourite from the lot.

Jou and Gomamon are seen holding Violets or Sumire. I honestly struggled to figure out the flower for a while, at first glance I thought it was Periwinkle but since that was not mentioned in the Hanakotoba reference anywhere, I searched other people's interpretations and settled with Violets. His tie also has a cute pattern of the flower, and it makes me wonder if Koushiro and Jou went shopping for their outfits together! In Hanakotoba, Sumire symbolise 'modesty/謙虚', 'sincerity/誠実', and 'small happiness/小さな幸せ'. Depending on the colour, the symbolism can change in Hanakotoba, and purple Violets specifically represent 'fidelity' along with 'love'. In Western Language of Flowers it symbolises 'modesty' and 'faithfulness'. This is as Jou as a flower can get lol.

Takeru and Patamon are seen with White Gerberas. Like Yamato, Takeru's outfit doesn't have a pattern of the flower, but the Gerberas themselves are pinned to his suspenders. In Hanakotoba, Gerbera symbolises 'hope/希望' and 'always moving forward/常に前進'. White Gerbera specifically are used to symbolise 'hope' and 'honesty/律儀'. In Western Language of Flowers it is meant to symbolise 'cheerfulness' and 'beauty'. All meanings are accurate for Takeru, no comment needed!

Hikari and Tailmon are seen with Sunflowers. I personally feel that Hikari's outfit is a little too much compared to the rest, just the sunflower belt would've been enough but they added that extra line at the hem and it's kind of an overdose. In Hanakotoba, Sunflowers symbolise 'I gaze only at you/私はあなただけを見つめる', 'adoration/愛慕', and 'worship/崇拝'. In Western Language of Flowers, it symbolises 'adoration' and 'false riches'. I understand that they wanted to go with a bright or perky flower for Hikari but something like a Pink Aster which symbolises patience or Cosmos which symbolises harmony, peace etc. might suit Hikari better given the overall theme of the illustration. The only miss in the otherwise perfectly depicted theme and art!

Wait, Spider, did you invent the Queer Chevron flag??? That's been my favourite flag for years specifically because of the historical significance of the colours (what with mallow and lavender flowers being so important symbolically to the burgeoning community at the turn of the 20th century). Plus the purples just soothe me, they're so nice. I even have a character with tattoos that were partially inspired by it. You really knocked it out of the park!

So the original flag idea came from a conversation between myself and @officialqueer many and many a moon ago, and then there was a whole community conversation about it. I think it was @bizexuals who made the actual first graphic? It went through several iterations, some of which were discarded for accessibility reasons or just not putting off the vibe agreed upon.

We wanted something that would specifically be easy to use in art and reproduce on merch, something that used simple, easy-to-obtain colors (two shades of similar-but-not-the-same purple and white or off-white), and something which had historical significance but was not directly derived from any existing flag. We didn't want to just 'mash a bunch of other flags together,' we wanted something which would be new but draw from past symbolism.

The two purples are lavender for the 'lavender menace/lavender scare' & the violets used to signal sapphic attraction. We used a chevron because... well. We're not straight. And when possible the background should be an off-white or cream, to signal eschewing 'purity politics' or respectability politics.

The shorter answer is that no, I did not "invent" the Queer Chevron flag -- it was a group effort which took weeks if not months -- but it was born from an idea that I had with someone else, yes. :) It is @officialqueer and I's baby, and we love it.

Time is well versed in music by ear, able to pick up on any tune and easily replicate it (due to the many years and time travels worth of practice of course).

So, when you asked if you could borrow his guitar, he was rather curious and intrigued to hear you play - seeing as you hadn’t mentioned it before on your adventure together.

He was fascinated by the small portable hookup that you had in your bag, he’d never seen anything like it before, not even by the greatest of bards in his era.

When you began to play though, he was in awe of your talent.

Regardless of whatever genre you played, he could tell how much you enjoyed it, as the tune took over you as you focused in and let your soul run wild with it.

He enjoyed getting to see you in this state, the vulnerability that comes with it. It was like he was getting to see a whole other side of you that was rare, especially on the road.

Time DEFINITELY becomes your biggest supporter after that. Want to play at a tavern? He might as well already be pushing/carrying you onto the stage before you even mention it.

Busking? Time is standing on guard for you!

All in all, very supportive, loves to hear you play, is like a dad whose wearing all of his kids merch out in the crowd and wants everyone to know he’s your biggest fan lol.

Tired Webcomic Creator Noises

Gags … ah yes lets make art into mindless content spat out by Ai cos we've been literally killing creators with inhumane workloads to spit out as many episodes as possible for mindless consumption.

I make my comics with passion and love of the craft! I have a degree in Comics, I spent years...years learning, practising, experimenting, adapting. I recall the days where you may get a page a week, or a few at the start of the month back in the 2000s era of self hosted webcomics and smackjeeves. (Rant below)

I've had to learn how the whole scrolling format worked to adapt to where all the readers had gone to, having been taught the traditional print page formats. And now cos its suddenly a massive money maker for these few hosts and they've pushed creators to the brink with the sheer volume they want pumped out that of course they want to use AI.

But it will speed up colouring! I have multiple tools available by the software I use and made by the wonderful people who love creating that colouring isn't that much of a chore, Its my fav part honestly. And its also a job sector within comics, colourists are skilled artists and this is another way to trim the fat, to pocket more money and keep churning out the 5th millionth villainess story.

Yes I am in most views a tiny creator, I haven't even broken their 1000 sub goal to even try applying for ad rev in the near 5 ish years on webtoon. But what I make I love, I spend hours researching folklore, scripting, drafting the whole kabudle like many other creators. And other than the kind supporters on my Patreon and Ko-fi I don't make much from the hours, days, weeks I pour into what I make. But at least I know its made with my own hands. That its made with love as corny as that sounds.

Ai is creeping its tentacles into everything, now ethically trained ai tools to help smaller creators would be fine. Most creators already rely on 3d tools to speed up things like backgrounds for webcomics. But when we don't know what its trained on, and is marketed wholesale as something anyone can use to make "content" is where it gets insidious. I am all for anyone with the desire to create and tell a story to go out there and do so, whether a beginner or a master. Part of the joy of a long running webcomic is seeing the artist grow both artistically and literary. But with ai it will be all one homogenous style, a copy of what ever is the hot thing. We already have amazon stuffed to the teeth with ai generated books, videos, merch and more all to be sold in some get rich quick manner. (need I point at the Willy's Wonderland incident). Youtube videos being spat out by faceless accounts stealing and regurgitating content at the speed no human video making team can easily match without cutting out quality or fact checking.

It is tiring. Creatives as a whole are treated poorly for decades, and now with the rapid late stage capitalism, website /social media enshitification and the blind headlong rush into the next big money making thing (watches the nft crash). I can't deny Covid sped this up, as everyone was locked inside and turned to what we creators made for comfort. But that content eating boom, lead to more demand, faster output and tighter budgets. We are seeing journalists being cut, game designers in their thousands and recently Dreamworks cutting a bunch and pushing to make their Robot film come out sooner due to public demands.

Skilled creatives are being treated like disposable fast food restaurant employees. Used til they burn out, get injured and even die! And then are simply replaced.

I've never been a creator with huge ambitions to work at places like DC, Marvel or Top Cow. I simply wished to create and share stories with the world, to bring smiles, to create art that evokes emotions, inspires others to look around themselves and create too.

Art is for everyone. You just need to take that scary jump, there is a whole array of welcoming communities willing to teach and share. I wouldn't have improved so much without the kindness of the webcomic groups I've discovered and learnt from. Everyone is always learning, and there no shame in not knowing how to do a thing. Even I started with the cheesy how to draw books as a kid and made my own pokemon and digimon.

Don't let the world treat your art as content. It is "ART" as much as what's kept in the louvre is seen as art, so is that little stick man doodle on a postit.

So Try something new, try a new material, a new style.

And support the artists you enjoy, tip their Ko-Fi, pledge to their Patreon, buy a sticker or print. Share their posts and tell them what you love about what they make.

Don't let machines steal away the art in HEART.

+ After the whole Baker incident happened, Ethan is very, VERY intent on keeping you away from any danger. When you both moved to Romania, he was installing the top-notch security systems around your house. He even took lessons from Chris to insure he would be able to defend you from any threat. 

+ Ethan loves to spend time with you whenever he can, seeing as he's busy cleaning and cooking for you both. "Ah, don't raise a finger sweetie, daddy'll do it for you." He babies you so much it's fucking annoying. "No, don't touch that hun, dad's got it!" 

+ God, he definitely uses it as a way to get you to spend time with him. You always cave in, and Ethan knows it. You know how much daddy works to keep you happy, right? "Sorry baby, my back is just so sore from working all day... How about we watch some movies? Didn't you want to watch that one movie...?" 

+ If you couldn't tell, Ethan is extremely manipulative. He's willing to gaslight you into obeying his rules, and has no remorse doing so. Ethan knows he's doing the right thing, so if it means he has to guilt trip you a little than he doesn't mind one bit.

+ He's also really delusional. Ethan has this fantasy of you never growing old, staying around with him forever. Ethan will always see you as the little baby who'd snuggle up to him when you were scared, and would only be comforted by a big hug and a warm glass of milk. You'll always be daddy's little royal in his eyes. But when you grow up and start to drift away from him? Well, Ethan's going to make sure that doesn't happen.

+ Ethan will spoil you rotten. His job pays him well, very well to be exact. He has such a soft spot for you he can't bring himself to say no. With a carefully timed "Please, dad?" and a flutter of your lashes, Ethan is already buying you whatever you want and more. 

+ He does have moments where he absolutely refuses though; there's no convincing him otherwise and that's final. Ethan feels extremely guilty about this later on and makes it up to you with treats and a present some time afterwards.

+ Touching on the last on: Ethan is really cheesy when it comes to spending time with you. Matching clothes? He's a sucker for it. Movie nights with all of your favourite snacks and drinks? Ethan's already got it set up. It doesn't matter to him how you want to spend time together, as long as you're happy, he's happy. 

+ Ethan desperately tries to be relatable, often researching into your interests and hobbies as much as he can. You like to draw? Here, dad's got you the best art supplies that he could find. Like a band? Ethan's already bought you a bunch of merch. (Well, if the band is up to his standards.)

+ Adding onto that— Ethan is a total helicopter dad. He has to monitor EVERYTHING you do on the internet. Well, not that you know of course. He has eyes on everything you do; every text and app are strictly monitored. If Ethan finds something he doesn't like than... Well, you ain't getting your phone back for a long time. 

+ Ethan does the same with music you listen to. More than one swear word and he's confiscating your phone. He's on edge if he even hears the word 'fuck' come from your phone. (Despite having quite the sailors mouth himself.) You're his baby, how could you be listening to such inappropriate songs?!

+ You'll probably learn how to dodge his efforts eventually, but Ethan always finds away to corner you again. You're forever trapped in his nest, treated like fragile porcelain.

+ Ethan is also weary of who you talk to. During childhood, you've been homeschooled. Probably due to the whole Dulvey incident; both to keep it on the down-low and because Ethan is anxious. What if you get bullied? He can't have that happen to his precious baby! 

+ The only people you've ever talked to when you were young was probably Mr. Redfield, your dad, and your tutor. Chris is like an uncle to you; equally as protective of you like your father. It's hell when you try to ask Chris to back you up against your dad's mother goose ways. 

+ It usually goes like this. "Uncle, come on! He's being paranoid again!"

"(Y/n), listen to your father. He's just trying to protect you, kid." 

+ During middle school, you managed to convince Ethan to let you go to public school. He was very weary about it, and would drop you off and pick you up every day. Everyday, he interrogates you on how your day was. It goes something like this.

+ "Hey sweetie. How was your day?

"Good. I ate the lunch you packed me."

"That's great, honey. Anyone picking on you?"

"Um, No?"

"Any boys or girls you like—"

"DAD!" 

+ Ethan gets lonesome without you around all day. He finds himself checking your room more often, and makes you handmade lunches packed with love. He leaves little notes in them too. "Hope you have a great day, love dad." He makes the fruits and veggies into little shapes, and cuts your sandwiches into hearts. Kids laugh at you about it, but you knew better than to tell Ethan about it. Besides— They were delicious!

+ If you manage to make a friend, than good luck keeping them around. Ethan's usually a sweetheart to you, but your friends? Not as much. He's intimidating when he wants to be. Ethan is asking questions like crazy. He probably knows more about your friend than you do at this point. You quickly learn that it's better to go to their house than your own. That's if Ethan allows you, of course.

+ Oh, don't even bother trying to run off to hangout with friends either. Ethan specifically requested Chris for a tracker to be implanted in your phone so he can keep eyes on you at all times. Chris and Ethan are already pulling up at your friends house, honking the horn and rushing out of the car. 

+ "Is... Is there someone honking outside?"

*deep sigh.* "That's probably my dad..." *VIOLENT HONK.* "... Maybe my uncle too." 

+ Oh god, don't even MENTION a crush around Ethan. Ethan loses his mind just thinking about the concept, nonetheless an actual crush. He's immediately on your case if notices your acting different. You dress differently, as if you're dressing to impress... You come home giddy and doe-eyed, like you've just been swept off your feet. Ethan knows these signs all too well. 

+ He should've expected it sooner or later, but he's tearing out his hair just thinking of some random kid placing their hands on you, kissing you, just— doing ANYTHING to you. It's driving him up the walls. Ethan can't really do anything either, seeing as he's a grown adult and your crush is way younger than him. 

+ God, if you're heartbroken than he's never felt more relieved in his life. Ethan feels bad for the most part, but as he's holding you to his chest while you sob, he's jumping for joy on the inside. Luckily, Chris has some connections that come in handy during times like this. All he had to do was threaten the kids family! So simple!

+ There's no doubt that Ethan would drop anything for you, so when you're whisked away to a remote village by a mother desperate to bring back her child, well... Ethan is going through hell and back to bring back his baby. He can't lose you, you're all he's got. Fuck the rest of that dammed village, Ethan will tear through friend or foe to get to you.
