ADVISORS! plural !! Oooh Kabru is definitely staying in the kingdom with the toudens and marcille im 99.9999% sure of it now that chapter 97 is out
Tumblr media
I want a hundred chapters of the post-canon silly Kabru&Marcille sitcom "we are trying to rule this kingdom but SOMEONE is not helping" Kingdom shenanigans 💚 (the someone is usually Laios. the older races' diplomats and ex-shadow governors are not helping tho)

I wonder when the Noldor looked around at their dwindling numbers and realized that they were dying faster than they could ever keep up with.

He stares at the drawing with polite confusion.
"Very...interesting interpretation of an elf. The addition of the tendrils is...interesting."
"You said interesting twice. And what are you talking about? Interpretation? Addition? This is like, a spot on life drawing of Dahra'ah. You see her every day, how can you not tell it's her? Are you serious or is this some sort of joke? Because if i wanted passive aggressive digs at my art I would have just gone back home."
"I-no, no, no! Calm down Tess. I-Exactly, I see her every day. She's basically just a tall human woman with pointy ears, not some kind of...creature."
"Hey! Rude! We're all 'creatures' here buddy. And what the fuck do you mean 'tall human woman'? She's a 'humanoid' sure, but-"
"I mean, that's what she looks like. That's how she shows up in photographs. Her picture is up on the wall Right. There."
"..."
"..."
"That's not her."
"What?"
The young portrait artist looks back and forth from the painting to the drawing. She can see it, the way the two figures could be different renditions of the same person, but the woman in the photograph was...off. Dulled. No markings or claws, no elegant tendrils, very little of the ethereal vibes that bordered on creepy with which Dah carried herself. Just a bland but very pretty human lady with pointy ears.
Something is wrong.
"Do you have sec to come to the studio with me Roland? I think we need to compare notes."
over on patreon DonutBronut wanted 'elves of increasingly inhuman varieties' and Kona Goodhart wanted 'indecent rococo' and while this isn't all rococo fashion it has the Vibes.
at first i just wanted to draw some slightly funky elves but then i got the idea for a fantasy scenario where everyone but elves see elves as tall pretty humans instead of the weird fae-humanoids they really are and the elves just roll with it. like, they're not actively deceiving anyone, it's just a fact of life that they show up weird in pictures and most mirrored surfaces and humans perceive them different. which is fine until some human with their dang third eye cracked open is hired to do a portrait and things get Complicated.
these ladies were fun to draw because even though i could have truly gone buck wild i decided to go for something a little more subtle (also i drew a monster elf before and i didn't want to retread that territory). y'all know i love a good changeling, so these are like a species of changeling that evolved to raise their own young after establishing communities outside the veil and breeding with the locals. which is something i've done before with the Mainlanders yes, but also consider? leave me alone.

Marcille didn’t use illegal magic to resurrect Falin bc she just loves Falin that much, she was able to resurrect Falin bc she already knew illegal magic bc she doesn’t respect elf cops.

Cellbit comparing himself to Frodo from LOTR for like ten minutes in a desperate analogy to let Bad know he’s being blackmailed by the federation, then at the end of it all going “yknow, Frodo is gay. Like really gay. Absolutely gay” he’s so real for that

this is a largely meaningless observation but, based on the fleki uniform demonstration comic, mithrun seems to wear the default style of the canary uniform, probably because he has no desire to personalize it or preference for how to do so, etc. when he does seem to pick his own clothes, though, they don’t look super in-line with what we’re shown of elven clothing styles in his region: high collars look like they’re fairly popular with elves in general, but out of uniform he tends to be a lot more covered up than everyone else—long sleeves, long pants, boots rather than sandals, and he dresses that way both prior to getting eaten and after the events of the series. anyway it’s kind of cute that after everything that happened to him, someone cared enough to remember what his clothing preferences used to be.

Greenwood forest is a legitamate Cryptid forest.
And as amusing it would be for the silvans to be in control of the weirdness, i think it’d be 10 thousand times more amusing for them to just vibe with it.
Some weird humanoid figure is seen wondering through the woods on the east side? Cool, make a note of it and be sure to avoid that stretch at this time of year.
You hear haunting whistles echo through the trees? Don’t answer. The silvans don’t whistle.
No one calls peoples’ names while they’re in the woods. If you hear your name called, run.
Don’t wonder off into the flower fields by yourself during the spring. The last elf who did disappeared, and a elf-like flower display lay up against the tree the next day. It’s safe to do in groups though.
Greenwood is weird, but it’s their forest. So while the orcs and spiders aren’t technically the most dangerous thing in these woods, they are intruders and the silvans want them out.

Ar-Pharazon from the Reverse Gondolin AU and as Witch-King of Numenor - thanks to @who-needs-words for helping develop this idea!
#silm#silmarillion#second age#ar pharazon#reverse gondolin au#(well more like the aftermath of gondolin reversal)#this au has consumed my life#on the plus side inspiration for feanor is finally reemerging from under the metaphorical couch so i might get something finwion-y done soo#aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa so much to draw so little time#seriously though golden nazgul is such a cool idea#whatever the mordor equivalent for the angband trio is (sauron pharazon and shelob maybe?) is going to look so cool in black and gold#black/gold black hole shelob!!#and prince elrond is super finwiony looking#also he has his wings & glowiness out a lot more so that'll be fun#but yeah basically in the au Prince Elrond realized via foresight what was happening/going to happen in numenor#so he went there and disowned ar pharazon (by extension removing him from the throne) and crowned tar miriel rightful Ruling Queen#then later when sauron showed up he came back kicked sauron out and outlawed the death cult#but between that time sauron secretly recruited ar pharazon by promising him kingship in exchange for his support#and anyways ar pharazon survived all the way to the TA as the Witch King#(mr. angmar here gets to be second in command of the nazgul sorry)#-imagine this guy showing up to be all 'bagginssss' though#the witch king of numenor is somehow even more dramatic#also the whole 'no living man can kill me' is. a bit different coming from a guy who has many enemies in the form of#a) his cousin the Ruling Queen of Numenor#b) his uncle the choice-of-elves-peredhel#c) a bunch of Faithful in the Halls#the dead guys aren't too much of a problem#but i wonder if he heard that prophecy and worried a whole lot more about the Ruling Queens#or Prince Elrond who in the au has very definitely embraced his maia-ness#and then imagine his surprise hearing 'but no living man am i' and it coming from. a random human lady.

Fëanorian Week 2023, Day 5: Curufin (or Celebrimbor, rather)
Tumblr media
I have a similar problem with Curufin as I do with Caranthir: he’s just kind of there a lot of the time and kind of the only description of him is that he’s a mini version of Fëanor (and I was already going to be drawing Fëanor).  The one very notable thing he did was be father to Celebrimbor, who did plenty of notable things, including having a striking and vivid death (as opposed to Curufin who just got killed without detail or ceremony during the same battle as the other two C’s).  Therefore Celebrimbor gets to steal his dad’s day of Fëanorian Week.  Sorry, Curufin stans.

Its all like the most unserious shit in existence on earth but the way reddit men talk about dwarfs vs elves type shit always makes me grit my teeth. Type of person who would generate a chad vs incel dichotomy about the textures of the spots of sand on a deserted island on theyve been stranded on for 2 years

i dont think im done talking abt this, actually. i'm going to try and explain how stupid this whole thing is because there's always SOMEONE going on about how if it wasn't for the circles, and the parallels of the circles to real-life atrocities, "the mage-templar debate" would be a two-sided issue.
actually, it's not.
the "mage-templar debate" is not an issue of ethics even before addressing the conditions of the circle, because you have other options.
the basic premise of the argument is "mages are inherently a danger to themselves and everyone around them. is locking them up to reduce the harm they pose to the general population the correct ethical decision?" but the entire concept is already bullshit even before you address the conditions of the circle, which is where most people claim the civil rights movement comparisons come from.
because. CANONICALLY. you have other options. you have options within the context of the games to reduce the "threat" or "danger" of magic. there's no cases of mass abominations in rivain. there's no cases of mass abominations (as we know understand & abominations anyway) amongst the avvar. there's no cases of mass abominations in tevinter. from the get-go the idea that "mages have to be locked up for their and everyone's safety" is already bullshit, before you even touch the issue of the circles. even before you get to the conditions of the circle, the very existence of mages in rivain and nevarra and the avvar and tevinter already renders the argument null and void.
from it's very inception, the entire premise -- mages are inherently a danger to themselves and everyone around them -- is proven to be a belief, not a fact.

a fascinating, impactful thing about Elrond and Elros’s Choices to be Elf and Man respectively is that no way did they not start out Pretty Fucking Codependent. Since the age of 6, it’s been just the two of them surrounded by kinslayers, and then just the two of them surrounded by Gil-galad’s people and the Host of the West who don’t understand their many, many complicated feelings about the kinslayers. Like their parents before them, they are the only two half-elves alive in the world, completely alone but for each other. And their primary models for healthy relationships are Elwing “I will not let you suffer the wrath of the Valar alone” Dioriel, Eärendil “[I’m exhausted and want to leave but] My wife may Choose for both of us - immortality? Alright, babe” Tuorion, and Maglor “this is a terrible idea but I will not let you take further blood on your hands and Eternal Darkness on your soul alone” Fëanorion. There’s no way for them to have not been Pretty Fucking Codependent!
Yet still, still, for the love of boldness and fortitude and the mystery beyond the edge of the world, Elros chose to be a mortal Man; and for the love of wisdom and grace and the beauty of the world, Elrond chose to be an Elf forever in Arda; and as price, they both accepted that they would be sundered from one another until the end of all known time.
