Write the Story. Write what happened.
1/20/23
I feel down and overwhelmed. I think the work is depressing. Surrounded by darkness and its impacts. So, I hit the gym on the way home. 30 minute treadmill. 3 gorgeous young guys there.
Reading the ’95 journal in court. Amazing how reading it there can have an impact on the present. And, I’m living at two times at once. 1995 and 2023.
1/21/23 Saturday 8:33pm
Sweet day. I felt peaceful during the gym workout. And drive to San Fransisco
Lots of people on the road. I think they’ve been scared to travel because of the storms. So, today, they let loose.
Hit intense entries in the ’95 journal. Read them at Poise’s Cafe and at Harvey’s Restaurant. 4/13 and 14, 1995 and 4/13/1996 margin notes about office and court house gay bashing. A poster posted on my cubicle door contained my face on a woman’s body. Some one had written on it “This could be you.” I was angry as I read the ’95 entry. Then I remembered that I’m a writer telling a story. My personal emotions now didn’t matter. Write the story. Write what happened . So, I did.
The friendly gay  Harvey’s waiter who I had discussed the ’95 entries with said “It’s (gay) history.
I skipped the open water swim in Aquatic Park. I overslept and was late getting to San Fransisco this morning. I wanted too write in the Castro before my 3pm massage near Union Square.
The spring of ’95 was a horrendously cruel time. 3 strikes and office abuse. I’d forgotten what happened then. I told my massage therapist that my subconscious has decided that it’s ok for me to know now. I can see why I am so distant and silent now.
End of entries.
Note:
In the spring of 1995 I was a deputy public defender in Modesto, California. I was doing 3 strikes life representation case and was the subject of a hostile work environment , gay related, at times. It's now time to write and to post the story. So, that's what I do. It's just hard to relive through the telling. It's also illuminating.

One of Courtney’s outfits is a workout ensemble, along with a TV and workout set. Fitness was huge in the 80s.
youtube
Part of it was Americans adjusting their health needs to fit sitting in an office all day.
Tumblr media
A lot of it was the invention of fabrics like lycra and spandex created skin-hugging outfits that designers like Azzedine Alaïa took advantage of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part of it was that mall culture made it easy to open a successful aerobics studio or gym
Tumblr media
Part of it was the popularization of the VCR meant that you could exercise at home to the likes of Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons.
Tumblr media
youtube
More than anything, it was a part of the prevailing excess of the Reagan era and the idea that you could never be too rich or too thin. It was actually pretty insane and it fueled a shitload of eating disorders.
Richard Simmons deserves a ton of credit for being body-positive and body-inclusive and emphasizing health over thinness all the way back in the fucking 80s. He was incredibly progressive for the era, and a huge part of his success was that his workouts were easy and accessible for all levels of fitness. His whole philosophy was that working out should be fun and joyful and not about suffering. He’s a wonderful antidote to today’s brutally hardcore fitness influencers who feed off of people’s insecurities. I love Richard Simmons and I will always defend him!

Tumblr Plays Pokemon White 2 - Part 4
Well my overall philosophy of exploration bore fruit!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Always remember kids, in a good game you can find pretty good items you may otherwise miss if you just take your time and explore a little!
Regardless my training at the Virbank Complex was interspersed with a guy asking me to "fire up" some of his new employees. Needing to train my team anyway, I took him up on the offer.
After defeating the first foreman with Aries I got a great surprise;
Tumblr media
Aries evolved into Flaafy! She also learned Charge!
This training session is already bearing some pretty great fruit!
As I was defeating the workmen I also saw this scientist guy walking around the complex. Talking to him and hearing what he had to say netted me an ether! An item that actually restore pokemons pp! Its harder to find in the early game so I think I may hoard this for now.
Reporting back to the boss nets me the tm for rock smash. I'm collecting a decent number of tms!
After leaving in the VIrbank Complex I head to the pokemon center and buy some healing I get a few potions and antidotes, as well as soem super potions juuuust in case. I also decide to buy one heal ball and one net ball on the off chance they come in handy down the line.
Now its prep time!
I decide to start off by replacing Bentleys tackle attack with return. I also teach the same attack to Molly as well. I consider teaching one of the team work up but it turns out none of them are able to use the move. I then give each of my team members a pecha berry to hold so they can heal themselves if they get poisoned at the gym.
With that prep work complete I head to the Virbank gym.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While the last gym was a school, Virbanks Gym is an underground rock club of sorts.
This is where we find Roxie, but she and her band are rocking out so hard that she cant hear us asking for a battle! Guess we'll have to beat her bandmates to bring the music down enough to start our gym battle.
Tumblr media
I choose to start with the drummer on the left.
I start off with Molly and he sends out a grimer. Mollys intimidate takes down his attack a stage and i opt to start out with an ember. Unfortunately Grimer immediately uses disable rending ember useless. I have Molly use return (cant remember if grimer can have poison point) and it hits, but grimer hits back. I have molly use leer and grimer uses poison gas which sadly poisons molly. Thankfully she eats the pecha berry I gave her and heals up. With grimers defense lowered I have Molly use return again which hits Grimer down ino the yellow, but unfortunately Grimer uses poison gas again and poisons Molly. Not wanting Aries or Bentley to use their pecha berries just yet I opt to keep Molly in. Ember is still disabled so I take grimer out with a return.
Next the drummer sends out Koffing and I get a message that ember is no longer disabled. I have Molly use Ember and manage to get a burn on Koffing. Koffing hits with assurance and molly is hurt by their poisoning. Luckily though Koffing is also hurt by their burn. I use an antdote on Molly to heal her up. Koffing takes the opportunity to hit with another assurance but is again hurt by their burn. I have Molly hit with return but it doesnt do much. One more ember and a bit of damage from the burn damage is enough to take koffing out.
I use a couple of potions on Molly to heal her up before taking on the guitarist on the right.
Once again I send in Molly and hte guitarist uses venipede. I have Molly start off with Ember which, it turns out, is super effective and takes venipede out in one hit! It must be the bug typing. This victory levels Molly up to level 16.
There is now only Koffing to deal with, and remembering how the last koffing tanked return I decide to rely on special attacks here and have Molly use Ember which takes Koffing down to half health and burns it. Another ember is enough to take it out.
Molly is really the MVP of this gym! Tbh I was expecting it to be Aries. I dont even need to heal up with a potion before facting Roxie. However before I face the gym leader I do take Bentleys pecha berry and give it to Molly while moving Bentley to the front of the party. I then give Bentley the silk scarf in the hopes that it will power up his Return attack.
I don't expect Bentley to do much in this fight since grass is weak to poison, but given what a murder bean Bentley was at the start of the adventure I doubt he'd be content with sitting out.
With that I face off against Roxie.
Roxie starts off with Koffing naturally enough. I opt to Bentley start of with Growth increasing his attack. Koffing hits with a supereffective smog, and I have Bentley set up another growth. I'm hoping to get a very stron ghit here. Koffing hits with assurance bring Bentley into the yellow. I then make a critical mistake and misclick another growth rather than an attack and Koffing hits Bentley with another smog. Not wanting to waste al those growths I opt to have Bentley use vinewhip. even though it wont be very effective. Which it sadly is not. Bentley is then KO'd by Koffing.
This ones on me not Bentley. Really could have played that smarter.
Wanting to save Molly for whatever pokemon Roxie has next, I send in Aries. Remembering that Koffin tanked return, I'm guess this guy must have high defense so Aries special attacks should do better here. Even so just to be safe I start off with a thunder wave to paraylze koffing and then use charge to power Aries up. Koffing hits with a tackle but it does barely anything. I have Aries use thundershock and its enough to take Koffing out in one hit!
Booyah Aries!
Roxie then sends out her next pokmeon, Whirlipede. If Whirlipede is a bug type like Scolipede was swapping in to Molly should be effective here. However I decide to leave Aries in. Her paralysis may be the best way to keep Whirlipede from using any moves that might poison my team.
So I do just that and have Aries use thunderwave right off the bat. Whirlipede gets paralyzed but still manages a pursuit. I have Aries use cotton spore to slow whirlipede down, and Whirlipede hits with venoshock for half of Aries health. Hoping to get lucky with paralysis I have Aries use charge to power up for an attack. Whirlipede used Venoshock again, but thanks to charge increasing Aries special defense it doesnt KO. Whilipede is paralyzed the next round and I have Aries use Thundershock which doesnt do as much as I hoped. I decide to use cotton spore again next round. If Aries cant beat Whirlipede i can at least make it slow for Molly. Whirlipede hits with another pursuit and I have Aries use another thundershock. Unfortunately Whirlipede uses protect and the damage fails to land. I repeat the same tactic next round but it only chips whirlipede. Whirlipede hits with another pursuit taking Aries out.
While two of my team members are down I'm not out. I send in Molly knowing Whirlipede is weakened alread and with Mollys intimidate its attack drops as well. Aries part comes through as Whirlipede is paralyzed and one ember is all it takes to beat Whilipede and win us the badge!
Tumblr media
Thankfully Roxies a graceful loser and gives us the Toxic Badge for beating her. Now any pokemon up to level 30 will obey us. She also gives us the tm for venoshock.
Tumblr media
yes they did Roxie yes did.
I'm fairly certain Bentleys disappointed he lost, but he'll rebound.
Immediately after we step off the stage a stranger approaches and asks us to go to pokestar studios. Mention of the place sends Roxie running off after her dad.
C'mon Roxie whats the worst that can happen here?
I head towards pokestar studios but stop at the pokemon center on the way to heal up my pokemon after that gym battle and head to the north of Virbank
So we walk in and the same stranger who talked to us back in Virbank Gym sees us and introduces us to the boss Mr... Stu Deeoh.
Stu Deeoh
I am not making this up.
Tumblr media
Some parent out there really had the last name Deeoh and named their kid Stu. And that kid then proceeded to go into filmmaking.
I just.... what life does this man have?!
Tumblr media
Be honest dude. Did your parents hate you? Are they dead? Did you kill them to inherent their money but mostly because they named you Stu Deeoh?
Tumblr media
You and Alder must go to the same bar or something because you are dodging the question.
Tumblr media
Well now I just want to slap your bald head.
I get a tour of the studio and meed Roxies dad in the lobby. Hes apparently just shot a film? Which was... fast? Are... are these cheap B movies? I hope its cheap B movies cause otherwise its something else and this is supposed to be a kids game.
So Roxies dad pressure me into watching his movie to get "acting tips" from a "professional".
Hahahah okay Pop Roxie MAAAAAAAYBE chill out a little? Yeah?
You've been in one low budget film shot in an open lot probably in front of a green screen. If your lucky its not something that'll make your daughter never wanna look you in the eye agian.
I don't gotta see your film, right talent seeker guy?
Tumblr media
Arceus damn it!
Tumblr media
UUUUUUUGH
Tumblr media
Oh....
Oh wow...
Tumblr media
You uh.... You okay Pop Roxie? Your knees okay?j
(missed my chance to screenshot this next bit so I got a screenshot from youtube. Original Vid here)
Tumblr media
Wow man... tone death much?
Then Pop Roxie goes on this heartfelt speech about having always wanted to pursue his dream of being on the silver screen and being inspired by his daughter, and then he just... goes back to his ship saying he would return to the screen one day.
OH Pop Roxie!
The guy then just... drags me to the studio to see the Boss.
Tumblr media
Call me Dahling again and Alder and Pop Roxie won't be the only older men around here who need new knees.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I WILL NOT BE IN A POR-
Tumblr media
.... Ah. Thats significantly less bad. Well... I guess Hugh wouldn't mind if I take a few hours out of my day to-
Tumblr media
YOUR KNEES ARE MINE OLD MAN
Tumblr media
Oh right sure. Get your Kung Fu star five pokedollar Brycenman look-alike phony out here to protect you. I have a murder bean, a lightning ram, and a firebreathing dog. I aint afraid of your security detail!
Tumblr media
.... Holy shit you're... you're actually Brycen.
Shit, uh... well if you heard anything about knees just know it was a HUGE misunderstanding eheheheh.
.....
My mom has a picture of you in our fridge.
Tumblr media
She kisses it good night.
Tumblr media
For years I thought she actually murdered dad so she could- I MEAN SAME TO YOU MAN! SAME TO YOU!
Tumblr media
Your knees are spared this day old man.
Tumblr media
Actually will I be getting paid for this? Yknow like in cash money? Cause, like, moms been single a long time since dad died and we could really use the-

ITS POKEBOB DAY!!!! GIMME SOME POKEBOB HEADCANONS!! >:3
SDNCJDBBDSISL LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
So of course Doc Roe runs his own pokemon center
He and his poison-type team use their poison/venom to make antidotes and potions and stuff to help the pokemon that come in
He’s known as the best PokeDoctor in the region because not only is his care/treatment effective but he’s also so GENTLE and SWEET
Like I have this image in my head of a wounded Pichu or another Baby Pokemon coming in and being super scared
But then he uses his adorable cajun accent and just
“Hey darling you’re okay. See? Good as new! You did such a good job!” pats the baby on the head
Sometimes when people come to him after being at the gym in town it can be a lot but when he see’s all the pokemon leaving with their trainer happy and healthy he can’t help but feel warm and fuzzy knowing he helped make them feel better
At the end of the day he’ll go out for drinks with the gym leader and gym trainers before heading home with his Seviper
SPEAKING OF GYM LEADERS
IT’S BUCK COMPTON BABEY
My boy has a rock-type gym and loves every minute of it
The gym trainers - Malarkey, Muck, and Penkala - all have a blast battling with the challengers before they get to Buck
The gym challenge involves strategy and thinking ahead, so the challengers need to be really mindful with the order in which they challenge the trainers
I picture Buck being like so friggin proud of a challenger when they beat him
Like he’s SO happy to give them his gym badge it’s so sweet
Then they meet up with Roe and go have a game of darts
Speaking of a game of Darts… what would we do…
WITHOUT GEORGE LUZ
I have a very vivid image of the sweet baby being an electrician and using his team to help him make repairs and do his job
And he’s fucking amazing at it and just a shining light all around
Like he’ll be up on the electricity pole with his Pawmot on his back and someone will yell hi up to him and he’d be excited to see a friend and almost fall but it’s ok cuz he has a safety line
Will 100% use his voice acting skill to prank people when he’s on the job
W H A T IS THE HOLDUP MR SOBEL
He’s working on the circuits and shit in the crawl space (idk i don’t know electricity) at wherever Sobel works in the PokeBoB AU when suddenly Sobel just hears
And the man has the PTSD Chihuahua face and Luz has to use every muscle in his body not to laugh
Of course he’ll meet up with the Lads at the end of the day to remind Buck that he is in fact right handed
Thank you for the ask Pretz!! These were so much fun to make 😝💖

this blog is no longer active
Hello Hello ~
My name is Tix (they/them), and welcome to my rotumblr blog! I'm 21, I'm from Unova and in Unova and i run a small café on Route 3 right outside Striaton City. If you don't find it, just look for the Daycare on the hill, walk up that hill and look for the building at the foot of the hill! And now come in and get a cupcake, you earned it!
A bit of background info, so you're not put off:
- I'm a trainer, i went on gym journey but i never finished (i have 5 badges). I know a bit about tactics, i like battling as a concept (i love watching league battles and gym battles on TV) but I'm not a big battler myself. If you're interested though, just ask. I have a good team and we do like the exercise. Just... Don't expect me to win.
- My parent's own a farm near Lacunosa Town on route 12. Their main focus is on Produce but they also offer a breeding program. I've worked a lot with them as well, so if you've just gotten an egg from the daycare, i can give you some tips. I don't know everything though.
- I'm a poison type specialist. Don't be put off by this. The food is all safe to eat, the air is safe to breathe and if anything should ever happen, i have antidotes. My Pok←mon are all sweethearts, but please be careful about touching them. If you would like to pet them, feel free to ask me. I will gladly tell you how to safely do it or if it's not possible. This should go without saying, but some people... Well.
I also have an employee, Olivia. Meet him here
There is also Brandy, my Rotom. Let's hope they can behave!
As for my Pokémon, here they are! [Compact list of Pokémon at the end in the ooc section]
Also here's two pics of me. (//i forgor what the picrew were. if anyone knows, let me know)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OOC below the cut:
// Hi, hello. I run this blog as a side blog, so I'll like and follow from my main @fire-water-grass-core . If you need to address me (the player/mun), I'm okay with any pronouns, and if you need a name you can call me Kama, Nox or Cheese. (And please excuse me if i sound harsh sometimes, or ask stupid questions). I also run:
@drampas-trainers where i document my journey through the Pokémon games
@professors-polycule, a project for my fake region.
@zekrom-sword where i explore some darker themes (ig?) regarding pokémon hunting. This blog is way less rules heavy thouhg and i'm happy to do some shenanigans there.
@team-nightdancer which is a PMD-based blog that i also run but it is inactive at the moment.
If you want to interact with them, feel free to do so. Rules from here also apply over there if not specified otherwise :)
First, this is obviously a Pokemon irl rp blog. As I and the people I'll mostly interact with will pretend that Pokémon are real, this is a blanket #unreality warning. I tried for a while to tag every post with that, but tbh it's tiresome, and I don't think it's really needed. Instead, I'll usually tag with at least one of the following three tags: #pokemon irl, #pkmn irl or #pokeblogging. It's probably gonna be #pokeblogging though.
Second, while both I and my character(s) are adults, I'd prefer to keep this blog semi SFW. (I will act like an adult though.) Mentions and, I'll call it "informative discussions" of sensitive topics are okay, but I try to keep it off screen. I don't think anyone had plans to play out elaborate sex-scenes on here but you never know.
If anything comes up, I'll try to put a warning tag. I'm not a fan of spamming tags, and some posts i already did have quite a lot, so I'll keep it to one format: #cw [trigger]. I will probably still use them sparingly, since i'm personally okay with most things. Please tell me if i should tag something.
That said, i usually don't consider "gore" as NSFW because thats just silly in my opinion. People cut themself and break their bones. I'll still try to keep stuff like this on the low end, and extreme stuff like dismemberment will also be tagged.
Third: I'm not the biggest fan of high stakes, especially on a global scale. I'll decide case to case if i want to react or interact. If it's something personal high stakes I'm more willing to participate (a character's arc that results in a final battle with a nemesis). Like i said, global scale high stakes where the world is threatened is probably not something I'll do a lot (team aqua wants to flood the world again). I do acknowledge it if it's happening because a lot of other blogs do participate and it's just weird if I'll always ask "whoa whats a shadow Pok←mon", but, like, Tix will probably be a lucky one and be unaffected by most things. If you would like me to participate, feel free to ask though. (I might just decline). Everything will be appropriately tagged #high stakes pokereality. I don't think i will be getting into details like "low stakes" and "medium stakes" for tagging.
Regarding sentient/sapient pok←mon: Human Characters will treat them as roleplayers online who just have fun. Might play along, might be a bit snarky or so. Pokémon Characters (Porygons, Rotoms, Team Nightdancer) will interact and understand them, even in person. This means that @team-nightdancer is NOT canon to the human run blogs, despite me running both. Exceptions to this rule is the Porygon line, Rotom and possibly very specific cases.
Fourth: as for other tags: all of Tix' and Olivias pokemon will have their own tag in the format #[nickname] the [species] , for example #coffee the koffing . I don't know how consistent I'll be with capitalisation, i try to use all lowercase. All posts regarding Yoghurt the Yveltal while it was still an egg are tagged with #yveltal??? Posts about Cracker the Murkrow and Cheese the Crobat from before they were caught are tagged #unknown crobat . I will not tag Pok←mon of other people, and I'll only tag the Pok←mon that are relevant for the specific post/reblog (because i have a lot of pok←mon and the tags won't end otherwise). If I'm sure something will be the last entry in a longer series of reblogs, i might tag everyone who was relevant, but don't expect it. I usually put them there so people know who I'm talking about, because i use the nicknames. (Another list of the Pok←mon will be at the very end)
depending on what kind of interaction i am doing on rotumblr, there are 6 tags, 2 for each Tix, Brandy and Olivia. Answers to asks will be tagged with #tix answers, #brandy answers or #olivia answers. If it's about "normal" blogging, it'll be tagged either #tix.txt, #brandy boasting or #olivia online. some old posts might have #tix blogs or #olivia blogs, i won't go through that to change it. posts from before olivias appearance might not be tagged at all in this way. The "event" (idk how to call it) where i come up with weird drinks or things that people order will be tagged with #daily disaster drinks . In character, these will be made by Olivia and will not be daily, as Olivia isn't working at the caf← every day.
Ask games or Ask memes or whatever you call them will be tagged with #ask game. Once i reblog them, they are open indefinitely. The tag will be for the initial meme only, not the answers to make it possible to find them. Generally, please put the question for the meme into your ask, especially if it's an older ask game, i might ignore it otherwise. Also, please specify which muse you're asking, if not I'll just decide who is answering on my own. In addition: most ask games i reblog here are also fair game on @drampas-trainers. I will only answer over there if you put the question in the ask though. If you want to ask a specific character there, do so, otherwise it'll be a sort of "collective answer"
For the ask box or inbox in general: I'll accept magic anons (if somewhat reasonable). I'll also accept physical items. If you wanna ask stuff outside of memes or whatever, go ahead.
I also like to do headcanons. These might make more or less sense, depending. I will usually introduce them with "//headcanon time" or something similar and then put a readmore. These will also be tagged with #headcanon . If you don't like them, feel free to just ignore them, i won't be mad whatsoever. I also don't mind discussing certain stuff in universe, we can play something like "what? really, i heard that slightly differently!". My characters are both not professional researchers or pokebiologists, but Tix is a poison type expert and Olivia is a battle specialist and teaches at the trainer school. They know their stuff for the most part. Because of this i'd like to ask you not to just straight up contradict me on these posts, like "wow, that's completely and utterly wrong!" I will try to do the same. Please tell me if i overstepped boundaries.
Also here is a (not complete) list of a few headcanons that i use.
Another tag might be relevant: #offscreen rp . I will use that for in-character roleplay interactions with other people. They happen outside of "rotumblr" and are there for the content. Also sorry if they clutter your dash. If you see this, please don't reblog with your own in-character additions as they are usually planned. If you reblog, I'll probably just ignore. Likes are very welcome though. :3
Out of Character posts will be tagged with #ooc . This goes only for posts where a significant portion is ooc.
Out of Character answers to asks will be tagged #cheesy answers
Out of Character notes will be marked as // or //ooc (including tags)
I might reblog art or even posts that tix or olivia aren't involved in. these will be tagged #//reblog .
Image descriptions or Video description will be in [brackets] .
I'll update and edit this post as well as reblog it if something changes. (Or make an entirely new one, like this time hehe)
Fifth:
I, Cheese, Mun will use pink coloured text in addition to the //
Tix will be writing/talking in colourless text
Olivia will be writing/talking in blue text
Brandy will be writing/talking in red text
otherwise, i won't use much colours in posts. this intro blog stuff will be the exception to make it easier to read (i hope)
That being said: feel free to interact, feel free to send a DM, feel free to send asks, I'm happy to do offscreen posts and RP and whatnot, I won't bite and i won't poison you. Probably.
little thing about reblog chains (i guess?)
Now, that was a long one. If you read it all, congratulations, have a cookie. Or a coffee. And most importantly: have fun!
PPS: Here's a list of Tix'Pokémon:
Coffee the Koffing
Muffin the Roselia
Bienenstich the Scolipede

If all of Tix team appear in a post (i doubt) it'll be tagged with #tix band
The Mareanie are a band of troublemakers and will be tagged #mareanie blt if all of them appear in a post
Probably grouping others together as well, but later.

If all of Olivias Team appear in a post, it'll be tagged #olivias gang

Gai’s Kanto Adventure Pt. 5
This entry is a rather eventful one.
The first thing Gai, Kakashi, and Rin after having a nice breakfast and packing up their things was head straight for Pokemon road.
The trio had to wake up a snorlax, which Rin promptly chucked an ultra ball at and continued walking before it was even officially caught.
While on the Pokemon road, Gai did the unthinkable AGAIN
Tumblr media
His pokemon hit yet another Jolteon in the face.
And he winders why Kakashi’s jolteon won’t snuggle up to him anymore 😤😤😤.
Once they reached Fuchsia City the three of them headed straight for Go park, where Gai caught a beautiful shiny Machamp (that i totally did not send from my pokemon Go file 😳😳😳). It didn’t take any time at all for Gai to figure out he could actually ride Machamp and take full advantage of this fact.
Tumblr media
After a bit more training the trio decided to take on the Fuchsia city gym, but before they did Kakashi dragged Rin and Gai to the mart and bought enough antidote’s to take care of a small army of poisoned pokemon.
Those antidotes came in great us, as Gai expected for something that his eternal rival had thought of.
Wanting to really think his team through this time after the last gym he faced, Gai decided to let Kakashi challenge the gym first. While watching his eternal rival he noticed that the gym leader had a pattern of protect stalling in the match. Something he also noticed Kakashi accounting for in his battle and working around with his pokemon.
Without saying a word to his eternal rival, Gai promptly challenged the gym after Kakashi received his badge (and the gym leader had an opportunity to heal his pokemon) and calculated when the gym leader would use protect so that he could have his Pokemon bulk up.
It didn’t take long before his Pokemon were ready to knock out all of their opponents in a single hit. An impressive feat for pokemon that were weak to the psychic type Pokemon that Gym leader Inoichi used.
Tumblr media
Rin quickly joined the three as a trainer with four badges, and the three headed off on their next adventure without taking a break.
With the ability to surf on water, Kakashi convinced Gai and Rin to go with him to an abandoned power plant he’d heard about from his father. There he found multiple electric type pokemon, which Gai couldn’t help but notice caused Kakashi to smile a lot more than usual.
After a short catching spree for Kakashi, and a single capture of an electabuzz for Gai to add to his growing team (it might not be fighting type but it has the heart of a fighter and thunder punched Gai’s hitmonlee in the face, so he added it to the team!) the three decided to finally take a break and rest for the day.
Which of course means Gai and Kakashi will be sparing all of the next day. They can’t fall behind in training now!

Pokémon FireRed (2004)
Tumblr media
i will not waste time on an intro because everyone already knows what pokemon is. and everyone already knows that FireRed and LeafGreen are remakes of the original games yeah yeah yeah whatever. but would you believe me if i said i've never beaten a pokemon game before? "yes", you say? well, uh, fuck. either way, i decided i might as well try to finish the games that started them all. or at least the remakes because i dont think i could stare at black and white screens for too long.
as far as remakes go this isnt half bad. this was made during gen 3 so expect similar gameplay to ruby/sapphire/emerald. it's been modernized quite well with the addition of held items, natures and abilities and what not. however, even with these shiny new features and QoL changes, kanto is still kind of an annoying place to be.
for example, the early game hell in many old pokemon games is especially rough here. when you start the game, you have barely any money to afford potions and/or pokeballs, only being able catch pidgeys and rattatas and bug pokemon with stupidly low levels (unless your patient enough to catch pikachu with it's 5% appearance rate, i wasn't), having to navigate a forest with pokemon that can easily poison you (oh yeah hope you have money for antidotes too asshole), trainers that barely give you any money, two gym leaders that will ruin you if you picked charmander, having to navigate a really fucking annoying cave to get to said second gym leader UGH. but once you beat misty it's smooth sailing from there. until the elite four at least.
it's fun finding all the little creatures in the grass and smoking other trainers with your specialized party, it's an addicting gameplay loop that still endures which is why there's like 60 of these games now. there are a few issues i have, mainly the concept of HMs. they're special moves you can learn that have uses outside of battle like cutting down trees and flying to towns you've visited before. however, you can't unlearn them for a good portion of the game so if your pokemon has learned one, they now have one less move slot to work with. so the "solution" is to just have a useless pokemon thats in your party only to use HMs, meaning now you have only 5 real pokemon on your team. it's insane that this was an issue in every single fucking game in the series until sun and moon, 20 years after the original games. better late than never i guess.
another issue is how EXP is divided among pokemon. only pokemon that were active in a battle get EXP, and depending on how many you sent out, it's divided for each one. i.e. if you used two pokemon and the enemy gives you 600 EXP, they each get 300 instead. three pokemon, 200. thing is most wild pokemon you caught suck ass until they start getting levels so you have to do what's called "switch training" which involves putting the one pokemon you wanna grind levels for at the front so they're sent out to battle first, and when the battle starts, immediately switch to your actual good pokemon and win the battle that way. eventually, your weak pokemon will get stronger.
this whole process takes forever and call me a basic bitch but i actually like the EXP Share in later games. all it does is save hours of your life grinding, but the one issue it does have is that it makes the games too easy, in which case, there's something inherently wrong with how the the main gameplay of the entire series is balanced. pokemon should stop trying to uphold traditions and try something entirely new! maybe take a few pages from other monster collector games like digimon and persona/SMT... but they WONT because these games are too mega popular and have a huge competitive scene and the last time they tried to do something different and bold with the main series (black and white) everyone hated them BECAUSE they did something different and no one FUCKING BOUGHT THEM!!!!! oh yeah wasn't this a review of firered
gigantic rant i had aside i still quite enjoyed my time with firered, when the game works it really works. when i finally have a team of pokemon i like and start demolishing trainers and gym leaders left and right it's really engrossing, even if the kanto games haven't aged the best. im still glad i beat it though and i wanna play more in the future, maybe try emerald or platinum next. i never quite got into pokemon the same way i did with other RPGs like final fantasy or dragon quest but it's still a fun series with lots of good monster designs, and when i do actually get to play the multiplayer with friends i always have a ton of fun. a good time, but if i see ONE more pidgey or rattata...
NOTE: i love you dragonite. i love you. i want hug. eevee too. baby

BE students as gym leaders?
Pokémon: Three Houses
This is the section of the Fódlan region dedicated to the realm of the Black Eagles (calling it the Empire felt strange.) You can find the Ashen Wolves here.
Tumblr media
Edelgard
Edelgard is the first gym leader you meet, but is strongly recommended is kept for last. She has two long braids, a token flareon headband, a red hoodie she wears over a black tshirt, cargo trousers, and black combat boots. She is the leader of the Fire type gym which is house in a large castle in the centre of the land of the Black Eagles atop the tallest hill. The land itself is warm, rainy, and extremely green with several towns scattered across the swamps and farmland. Edelgard is the daughter of the Ruler of this part of Fódlan, but it is her extraordinary talent as a gym leader which has earned her the moniker the Flame Emperor.
Historically, her nation has been extremely cruel to Pokémon, including things such as experimentation and slavery. In the last few decades however that has changed, and Edelgard intends to keep things driving forward. She has earned the loyalty and devotion of her Pokémon because of this, especially her companion Ceruledge who she rescued as a charcadet from experimentation.
Hubert
Hubert is the Poison type gym leader. He has black hair that is shaved into an undercut with a heavy fringe which hangs in his face, a black jumper with a skorupi patter on the front, a white shirt, black trousers, and black smart shoes. He wears a bandolier around his torso with a series of bottles of poisons and potions clipped to it. Historically, the leader of this gym is always the devoted follower, protector, and server to the Fire type gym leader who is always the heir to the land of the Black Eagles. Hubert of course has a devotion to Edelgard which surpasses what he was born to do. When he was a child he resented his birthright, but the more he came to respect and adore Edelgard, the more he began to throw himself into his role. Ever since he was a child his father has microdosed him with poison making him personally immune to the effects of poison type Pokémon and thus able to handle the most dangerous species he may come across. It is this that inspired the most terrifying and dangerous challenge in order to earn a match with this gym leader. You are given a series of poisons and you have to battle your way to the antidote before they kill you… of course, they are not really poisons and you never in any danger. That however is the best kept secret of the Poison gym.
When Hubert was a child, he was put into a large cage with a Seviper, he immediately began playing with it. When it gave him a friendly nip on the hand Hubert’s father was delighted to see that Hubert showed no ill effects, it had proven his experiments had been a success. He was however infuriated when Hubert became close to the Seviper, it would follow him everywhere and curl around his arm and lay over his shoulders. Hubert’s father saw Pokémon as tools rather than friends.
Ferdinand
Ferdinand is the Fighting Type Gym leader, and he has a great rivalry with the Fire Type Gym Leader as they were brought up in extremely close quarters by their parents who were very close. Especially as Ferdinand’s father worked for Edelgard’s father’s government. He began growing out his hair when he took over from his father who always had a great distaste for long hair on boys. His hair now is almost at his shoulders, he wears martial arts wrappings around his hand and wrists, a mahogany coloured t-shirt with a fist on the front, black knee length shorts over stripped athletic leggings, and athletic lace up red boots.
When Ferdinand inherited the Fighting type gym from his father it was barely functioning. The Pokémon were badly treated and the trainers were practically given a badge in exchange for cash donations. Ferdinand worked extensively to turn it into something to be proud of - the Pokémon were fed well and pampered. They ended up flocking to the gym as they enjoyed living and training there. The building was cleaned and the facilities were well maintained, a few trainers were angry that the badges they acquired through cash donations were no longer valid but as a general rule the surrounding town was delighted at the progress. The gym attracted more trainers than ever. Ferdinand’s father never had a companion Pokémon, but Ferdinand always had a liking for quadrupedal types. As a result when he first met his Tauros, a Paldean Blaze variant, he was delighted and fell in love. His Tauros, who he named Tara, grew very attached to him too. As a result, Ferdinand broke the trend even further by becoming the first Fighting gym leader who actually enjoys the company of Pokémon.
Caspar
Caspar inherited the Electric Type Gym Leader, he took over from his father who decided to pass it along to him and focus entirely on his role in government. Caspar has messy, spiky hair, jeans that at perpetually torn from things such as climbing trees, fighting, and tripping over things, and a loose black t-shirt with a magnetite on the front that falls to nearly half way down his thighs. He has several wristbands on his wrists and biceps, one has his phone clipped to it, several wires were twisted into bracelets, and a silver chain around his neck. He wears big stumpy black boots which make him a couple of inches taller. Whenever he is seen wandering around and adventuring, he always has bis Zapdos flying around him and there are rumours that he has a slight electric shock that radiates from him when you shake his hand.
When you reach his gym, he is no where to be found - instead you meet an extremely stressed gym attendant who is anxious that she doesn’t know where Caspar is. This is a frequent occurrence as in her own words, Caspar hates responsibility and prefers to focus on battling and catching Pokémon. If you wish to battle him, you have to find him. When you see him he is a cheerful young man who is ecstatic to fight you. He enthusiastically comments on your battle choices and when you beat him he congratulated you saying he fully intends to fight you again and wjn.
Linhardt
Linhardt is the leader of the Psychic type gym. He wears his hair in a long braid and wears a purple sweater, he wears a light blue shirt with the top button done underneath, and dark blue jeans. He wears smart black shoes, and has a brown leather satchel. He speaks with a Received Pronunciation accent and uses quite formal language. Unlike the others you can only challenge him to a battle at night as he naps so much during the day. He’s usually grumpy because he likes to get so much of his research done at night but he usually battles at this time with little to no resistance. Despite that he still yawns throughout and wants to take a nap afterwards.
He is currently doing research on the theory that there may be a potion he can create that allows a human to mimic attributes of an Abra. Where they can sleep, but still work or perhaps develop over abilities. He was inspired to do this by his companion Abra, who curls up with him on his bed or wherever he’s decided to nap regularly. Abra has shown resistance to evolving, and Linhardt finds that in itself fascinating. Saying on the subject ‘I wouldn’t want to have to stay awake that long either.’
Bernadetta
Bernadetta is the leader of the grass type gym, she wears a large green zip up hoodie which goes to her knees that she leaves open with a t-shirt with a smoliv on it. She also wears grey leggings, and red trainers. She carries around a large grookey backpack. She is shy and timid so it has always surprised everyone that she surrounds herself with the most terrifying looking Pokémon. She gushes about how adorable they are and makes little teddies of them and for them. Her companion is a carnivine, she met her as she was looking after the carnivorous plants on the grounds of her family’s house. Bernie always felt much safer when she was around as she protected her from her father, and the other neighbourhood children when they were cruel to her. She usually reversed to carnivine as Neeve, or her “precious baby”.
The challenge when you get to her gym is getting her out of her room, you have to fight trainers for various items to tempt her into leaving. The rule of the gym is, if you can tempt her away from her room - you get to challenge her.
Dorothea
Dorothea is the leader of the Fairy type gym. She keeps her long wavy brown hair pinned back with a large golden butterfly clip. She wears a short denim skirt, pink Doc Marten style boots, floral tights, a pink vest, and a knee length brown coat with a fluffy collar and cuffs. As a general rule, the gym leaders in the realm of the Black Eagles are inherited. However, the few exceptions to this include the Fairy type gym which is run by ‘commoner’ Dorothea and her companion Delcatty who has been with her since she was a hungry street kid and Delacatty was her partner in crime - a little Skitty who helped steal food for her. That was until she was picked up a theatre troop ran by Manuela, the previous Fairy Gym leader. No one expected the previous Gym Leader Manuela to pick Dorothea as her successor. They had both known each other from Manuela’s days in the theatre and she knew no one who had the same affinity with fairy type Pokémon until they both bonded over Manuela’s aromatisse and Dorothea’s then Skitty.
When you reach the Fairy gym in order to battle Dorothea you have to collect a series of mechanisms from various Pokémon trainers. When you reach the end, Dorothea puts them together to create a music box which she gives you alongside her badge when you defeat her in a Pokémon battle. The music box gives you the ability to attract Fairy Pokémon.
Petra
The Water type gym is always led by Brigid, a state forcibly run by the realm of Black Eagles. The current gym leader is Petra, the Princess of Brigid due to her father ill health. Brigid is an island which you have to travel to by boat. When you reach the coast, you are greeted by a gorgeous beach, on the edge of a glorious forest. It’s brilliantly green and filled with new Pokémon and plant life. When you reach the other end of the forest, passing through several villages, you reach the other side of the small island. On the coast there is the water gym, and fishing on the docks is Princess Petra. She has hair her in a long plait held in place with a silver bar hair clip. Due to the island being hotter than the rest of Fódlan, she is dressed in a blue athletic crop top with a mudkip on the front, loose navy cargo trousers, and practical hiking boots. She is often seen with her companion Pokémon a floatzel who often perches on her shoulder or goes out scouting a few feet in front of her to make sure the coast is clear.
Petra finds trusting people from Fódlan difficult given how her country was forcibly taken by the realm of the Black Eagles. However, she is willing to give you a fair fight, but first you have to accept the fishing challenge where you attempt to catch a bigger Pokémon than a series of Pokémon trainers. When you have finished you are congratulated by Petra who rewards you with a battle.
Monica
Monica is the leader of the Ghost type gym, she dresses in a purple silk shirt dress with a large black, ribbon bowtie. She wears black tights that are covered in an intricate floral pattern and purple lace up boots. She has disappeared and reappeared so many times there rumours that she is a ghost herself. She has been very attached to the same Mimikyu since she was a small child, when she used to wander away from her family and get lost regularly she found herself in a forest. A mimikyu stumbled upon her, and Monica insists to this day she was convinced he was a pikachu. He helped her find his way home, and he’s been her companion ever since.
She is extremely fond of Edelgard, the fire type gym leader, will often ramble at length about her to you. When you take the challenge of fighting her, the trial you go through first involves answering a question about Edelgard with every trainer you meet. You cannot progress until you get it right.

Chapter 2- Part 9
Let’s move on to the people at the desks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This must be the in-universe explanation for why this game has all Pokémon from Gens I-VII. But like, throwing so many varying kinds of species together like that…doesn’t that seem kinda ecologically dangerous? I dunno, it just doesn’t seem like that’s how that would work-
And even then, we’re gonna catch some anyways, sooooo tough luck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’ll probably be our next stop then, after we see as much of the Opal Ward as we can. Surely the cops and debris from earlier will be cleared out by now, right? And who is the first Gym Leader gonna be? Is it gonna be Julia? She’s the first Gym Leader we’ve actually met, and she mentioned being at the Gym when the train exploded so it couldn’t have been that far from Grandview Station…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hm, this is interesting- is this, like, a method for training/level grinding? That’d be nice if so, but I don’t think I’m gonna be using that right now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s…definitely a very long and specific metaphor, but eh- it’s a reference.
Tumblr media
Still interesting, but - where are the Trainers, though? It’s Saturday (as of the time of playing for Chapter 2), so there should be more according to this person. I saw a ton of NPCs when Victoria was walking Xera in, was that them? In that case, I probably shouldn’t talk to any of them right now…
(Note from the future: Reading back over this conversation while cropping down screenshots for these posts, I don’t think this is what they meant, I think they just meant the free battle Trainers aren’t available to players right away, but past me misunderstood this dialogue. I blame the extended “new Trainer with Lv. 5 starter” metaphor.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did already know that, actually, but points for effort.
Tumblr media
This guy’s not special enough for us to talk to apparently, the geometry itself denies him a conversation.
Tumblr media
And here’s the Poke Mart! We don’t start out with a ton of money and beating Cain and Victoria didn’t give us much more, but even still-
Tumblr media
I bought a couple Potions, Antidotes, and an extra Poké Ball.
Tumblr media
And now we’re half broke! It’s fine though, maybe the other Trainers will be able to pay a bit more.
But speaking of buying stuff, look who’s down here!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yup, the certified Magikarp Salesman is here too! As much as I wouldn’t mind having a Magikarp, I think I’ll hold off for right now until Xera’s just a little more financially stable.

I should really be getting some rest before I start work in four hours but I'm too busy watching the movie 2012. I can't help but think of what would Terry do in a situation like that. Would he spend 1 billion euros per person for him and beloved or would he decide to just "end it" on his own terms and take beloved with him?
Dynatox patents an Arc all of their own in case of a cataclysmic event.
Which is very ironic, because you can consider companies like are partially, if not very responsible for any and all end of the world scenarios due to the sheer amount of pollution and environmental catastrophes they're behind globally. They create the illness and the design the antidote too, profiting off of both in equal measure. And hypocrisy of all hypocrisies, Terry Silver seems like the type of man who would have his own way to escape disaster he's slightly behind and has been for decades, always equipped with a plan B. C. D. and E and simply too hellbent on being in control and on top of things to leave the situation up to chance, and too much of an egoist to share an escape Arc with anyone else even though he can entirely pay for whatever obnoxiously expansive ticket that requires. No. Terry Silver travels in big style, not crammed up in tightly confined space, like a sardine in a can. The literal Apocalypse might be happening in the wider world, but Terry wants his own dojo, his own private gym, pool, sauna, his collection of cars, weapons, thirty five master bedrooms, eighteen bathrooms, his suits and wardrobe, Michelin star chefs, maids, cleaners and the whole nine yards. Naturally, there's the added controversy and outrage behind fact that one American tycoon and Billionaire designed his own Arc covertly, which he selfishly enough houses with literally just himself, John Kreese, whether John Kreese wants to or not, because he sees this as repaying his Captain for Vietnam --- a life for a life and he'd rather see the world burn that leave him behind --- Terry's staff, the crew manning his state of the art submarine, his riches and nobody else.
And beloved, of course.
Someone he might actually name the Arc after.
He and whoever he chooses (which are only individuals he specifically likes --- or maybe those he absolutely loathes so he can have a pastime out of hunting them for sport on that very Arc), playing god in the situation, are very likely to survive the end of the world, because he is willing to trample over actual corpses to make it out okay and survive by any means necessary. He does too. Cobra Kai never dies, after all. He's been through one hell before in Vietnam and lived and he'll live again. Maybe, once everything clears down, humanity starts emerging and re-establishing the remnants of civilization on the ruins of what was left behind, Terry can play himself off as a kind benefactor who was so very charitable and selfless with his Arc, but alas, so many of his passengers died under mysterious circumstances. Oh, the grief.

“Those two in the window”
Partially written by AI
Tumblr media
There once was a young man named Tristan who was fascinated by mannequins since he was a kid. He spent hours gazing at them in store windows, admiring their perfect bodies and wishing he could look just like them. Tristan was determined to make his dream a reality and he worked out every day at the gym, building the tapered back, Adonis belt, six-pack abs, and pillowy pecs he so desired.
One day, Tristan met Keegan, a mysterious black-haired man with bedroom eyes. Keegan had a unique power; he could turn anything into plastic, but he had no control over it. Tristan was immediately intrigued and was drawn to Keegan's three plastic dogs, which were always by his side. Keegan was sad because those dogs were once real but he accidentally turned them into toys.
Tristan became infatuated with the idea of Keegan turning him into a mannequin, but he wasn't sure if it was the right decision. He was torn between his love for Keegan and his love of this dream. Despite his reservations, Tristan found himself falling deeply in love with Keegan.
One night, after a passionate lovemaking session, Keegan accidentally turned Tristan into a mannequin. To Tristan's surprise, he could still hear, think, see, and feel. He was thrilled to finally have the body he had always wanted, and his dream of being a mannequin had finally been fulfilled.
Keegan was devastated by what had happened and was determined to find an antidote to turn Tristan back to normal. He searched far and wide, scouring libraries and talking to experts, but nothing seemed to work.
As the days went by, Tristan began to adapt to his new life as a mannequin. He still had thoughts and feelings, but he was no longer able to move or speak. Despite this, he was content, knowing that he was finally living his dream.
Keegan, however, was becoming increasingly desperate. He loved Tristan deeply and couldn't bear the thought of living without him. He continued his search for the antidote, but it seemed as though he would never find it.
In the end, Keegan came to a realization. He looked deeply into Tristan's plastic eyes and, in a moment of desperation, turned himself into a mannequin as well. Tristan was now surrounded by the one person he loved most in the world, but they were both frozen in time, unable to move or speak.
In the end, Tristan and Keegan were together forever, as mannequins. They stood in the window of a department store, gazing out at the world, frozen in time but still in love. The two of them were finally the perfect specimens of beauty they had always dreamed of being, and they were together for all eternity.

@poison-patriarch
There were only so many different shapes one could pick out of the pattern on the ceiling, especially after laying there unmoving all night. Not much sleep was had this past night, nor the one before. He wasn’t sure if it was the waves of static in his nerves all the way to his fingertips and toes or the fogginess in his brain that had kept him up this time. At this point, it didn’t matter. These last couple of days had him turning to anything and everything under the sun to get rid of the tingling. Nothing had worked against the poison and it was beginning to be a major problem plaguing his body.
A few days ago, he had accepted his first job as the newest rookie detective with the local department. Fresh out of his internship, he was tasked with helping the lead detective investigate a nearby building where some vandalism was occurring. Nothing too difficult for his first case. Just to make a show of his new talents, he had offered to do the initial evidence gathering alone and the other detective could come in after and check his work.
First mistake.
He did not have any partner pokemon to assist him if anything went wrong. Not the reason he was lounged pathetically on his couch right now. No. But it might have helped. There just so happened to be one room in that building had a weird glow coming from under the door frame, so he just had to see what that was about. Curiosity always got the better of him recently. He tried the door. Stuck. It wouldn’t budge. He made a note in his notepad and started to move to on to the next but the strange glow. He shook his head. Something in his gut told him he should find out what was glowing. He ran his hand through the fluff on his head and turned back to the door.
Second mistake.
He tried wiggling the handle. Lifting up on it, maybe the hinge was stuck. He tried the keys to the property. None of it worked on this stubborn door. Frustrated, he used his full bodyweight to shoulder the door open. The door latch punched through the door and it swung open. A hole left right where the lock was and the handle still firmly latched to the frame. The door smacked into the wall and dust fell from the vibration. A glowing vial rolled across an adjacent desk. He lunged to grab it before it shattered on the ground.
Third mistake.
His reaction was not quick enough to catch it, however, it was quick enough that his head and body was over the vial when it smashed and whatever was inside created a cloud of vapor, engulfing him. His eyes watered and he started to cough. Stumbling towards the door, he tried to wave the vapor away from his face. It wasn’t enough. Nor was his futile attempt at lessening his exposure by exiting the building. The other detective was unimpressed with the incomplete investigation. The vapor had almost completely dissipated by the time they made it back to the room. No glow remained anywhere in the room. The only other vials were all empty or smashed to tiny shards like the one that rolled of the desk.
He was quickly sent home once he violently started couching. Told not to come back if it continued. He stopped by the mart on the way home. Got some medicine. Varying types because he had no idea what this vapor was. He even tried an antidote and though that made him feel slightly better, it was only for a few hours. Then symptoms came back with a vengeance. The tingling was a new one, which lead him to believe it was most likely poison. Anything that came up from research to help with poison, he tried. Home remedies, weird cocktails. You name it. This lead him to the first sleepless night. Now he laid staring at the ceiling wondering if this is how he died.
One last thing he could think of to do was seek professional help. But who could he see? He didn’t want to go see any kind of doctor. They would find some reason he would need to stay for testing. He shudders at the thought. Maybe a poison specialist. The gym leader of Fuchsia City was well known for anything poison related. Wouldn’t hurt to try. He stood and pulled on a coat before heading to gain an audience with Koga.

Kanto Gym Leaders
Are you ready to take on the Kanto Pokémon League again? Check out more information under the cut.
Tumblr media
Want to learn more? Check out the Memories of Kanto tag.
Though the badge case image has the gym leaders in their traditional order, you won’t be challenging them that way in Memories of Kanto. Since you begin your journey in Lavender Town, the gym challenge will be in the following order:
Gym Leader 1: Mariana (Cerulean City)
Tumblr media
Mariana hasn’t been gym leader in Cerulean City for very long, and she has big shoes to fill! The layout of the gym has remained largely the same, with a large pool in the center of the room where the other trainers in the gym (a swimmer and a tuber) swim around until they spot you.
Once you defeat Mariana’s team of Poliwag and Goldeen, you have your first badge: the cascade badge.
Gym Leader 2: Torsten (Pewter City)
Tumblr media
Pewter City gym has a straightforward design. It’s simply a rocky path where you will be challenged by two campers and a black belt.
When you reach Torsten, you’ll need to defeat his Onyx and Aerodactyl to win the boulder badge.
Gym Leader 3: Fina (Cinnabar Gym)
Tumblr media
Fina has recently built her gym and science center on Cinnabar island, after the original gym was obliterated by an eruption of the island’s volcano. She’s here to research and monitor the island, and her gym is staffed by scientists and ruin maniacs. These trainers do have work to do, so they might just let you pass by unchallenged, as long as you answer their trivia questions correctly. I hope you know about type effectiveness and Pokémon evolution!
However, you can’t avoid taking on Fina’s Vulpix, Growlithe, Flareon. Once you defeat her, she will reward you with the volcano badge.
Gym Leader 4: Janine (Fuchsia City)
Tumblr media
At first glance, Fuchsia City gym appears empty. However, this gym has trained ninjas for decades now, so no one is surprised that it is affectively booby-trapped. Trainers are hidden throughout the room, and you never know when you’ll be thrown into battle with a ninja boy, lass, or battle girl. Make sure you have a lot of antidotes on hand!
Janine’s team of Venonat, Nidorina, and Crobat, will surely leave you poisoned, but if you survive the battle you’ll receive the soul badge.
You’ll also receive congratulations from the retired ninja master Koga, who has great faith in his daughter’s abilities. If you talk to him prior to challenging her, he will share some information about poison types with you, though he is skeptical of your odds against Janine.
Gym Leader 5: Vince (Vermillion City)
Tumblr media
Vince keeps a much more relaxed gym than his mentor, Lt. Surge. The gym has now been fitted with colorful, musical tiles; if you step on all of the tiles of a given color in the gym, following them from front to back, they’ll play a tune together and turn off one of the rungs in the electric fence blocking off Vince’s stage. Following the musical paths will definitely put you in the sights of the gym’s trainers: a sailor, a juggler, and an idol, who mention that they are also a lead guitarist, keyboardist, and master Metal vocalist, respectively.
Vince compliments you on your musical chops when you reach him, and compares the support a gym leader gives to trainers--both his friends in the gym and the challengers that come from across the region--to the easily-overlooked importance of a bass guitar in a rock song. Once you’ve defeated his Pikachu, Lanturn, Magnezone, and Ampharos you’ll be rewarded with the thunder badge.
Gym Leader 6: Murdoch (Saffron City)
Tumblr media
The youngest gym leader in Kanto, Murdoch works hard to be professional. He has turned the nine rooms built into the gym into a shadowy mirror-maze. It’s dark and difficult to navigate, and you will be challenged by school kids and mediums as you work towards Murdoch. (The school kids aren’t subtle about being Murdoch’s battle buddies, and the mediums are similarly un-subtle that they all look upon Murdoch as their adopted grandson and they’re very proud of him. Some will laud his world travels and interest in staying up-to-date with the newest Pokémon discoveries.)
Murdoch is impressed that you reach him, and even more impressed when you defeat his Haunter, Mimikyu, Mismagius, and Gengar. Somewhat begrudgingly, he will give you the marsh badge.
Gym Leader 7: Erika (Celadon City)
Tumblr media
Erika takes pride in the upkeep of her flowering maze of a gym. In fact, at one of the windows outside a young girl gazes longingly at the beautiful trainers in the gym. These trainers include a lass, an aroma lady, a beauty, and a pair of ace trainers.
Erika’s team of Victreebel, Jumpluff, Bellossom, and Tangrowth are formidable, but if you can beat them you’ll receive the rainbow badge, and then there’s only one gym left.
Gym Leader 8: Blue (Viridian City)
Tumblr media
Blue has done his grandad proud (if you talk to the retired Professor Oak in Pallet Town he’ll tell you as much!) by becoming a major facet of the community in Viridian City. He has taken well to being a gym leader, though he’ll playfully taunt challengers until or unless they defeat him. He’s built his gym to prepare trainers for the variety of his team, a stark contrast to the rest of Kanto’s gym leaders. You’ll need to navigate through a stream, a grassland, and some rocky terrain to reach Blue, and on the way you’ll battle a variety of ace trainers, all with Pokémon themed to the terrain (water and ice along the stream, grass and bug in the grasslands, and fire, rock, and ground type in the rocky terrain).
Blue will grant you the earth badge once you defeat his team of Rhydon, Exeggutor, Alakazam, Arcanine, Blastoise, which is no small feat. Now that you have all eight badges, he’ll wish you luck against the elite four and the champion. You’ll need it: Blue has never been able to defeat the champion, and not for lack of trying.
I also made Vs. sprites for Mariana, Torsten, Fina, Vince, and Murdoch to be able to make the badge case, but you can’t actually see much of them there, and I spent way too much time on them not to include them, so here they are:

Cooking (Final Rose x Pokemon)
Inferno stirred the pot carefully. Cooking was something he and Diana both enjoyed, and they had both worked hard to become good at it. It had started off as yet another training exercise, a way to practice his control over his fire that would end in a delicious treat for both of them. Inferno had since discovered that he quite liked taking various ingredients and turning them into something tasty.
It might also have had something to do with all the good memories he had of learning to cook with his trainer. It had been something he could help with even when he’d been a Charmander, and it had only gotten easier as he’d gotten bigger and developed more dextrous limbs.
“Pachi...?”
Inferno chuckled. Despite his small size, Pachirisu ate quite a lot.
“Char...” The meal would be ready soon, but it wouldn’t do to rush it. It would be ready when it was ready. “Zard...”
Nearby, Diana was cutting up some fruit and going over their supplies. They were strong enough that the wild pokemon in their area were unlikely to be a threat, but it was a good idea to have plenty of potions, antidotes, and the like on hand. The nearest Pokemon Centre was still a few day’s away, and although Clefable did know some healing moves, it was best not to push her too much.
Since they’d be staying in this section of the forest for at least a few days while Diana looked for some pokemon to catch, Tyranitar had been tasked with setting up camp. A defensible location was critical, and the rock type had already built up a nice wind break that would make it easier for Diana to set up her tent while also providing them with cover if they came under attack.
Tyranitar and Inferno were both strong enough to simply tank hits from their opponents if necessary, but Pachirisu and Ninetales would both do better if they had cover to work with. The rocks would also give Tyranitar something easy to throw if it became necessary. In a forest full of bug types, there were few things more dreaded than a boulder to the face.
A commotion drew his attention momentarily, and Inferno chuckled. Aegislash had once again challenged Diana to a fruit chopping competition. The ghost type had yet to forget his defeat back when they’d first met, and he was eager to get his revenge. Somehow, though, Diana continued to eke out victories, much to Aegislash’s aggravation.

Inferno opened one eye. Although it was a bit chilly here, Diana had foregone her tent in favour of simply curling up to him. With Tyranitar’s wind break in place and his own wings wrapped around her, Diana had little to fear from the cold. Her breathing was deep and even, and there was a faint smile on her face. She was probably thinking about the bug pokemon they’d been catching in the next few days. She had yet to find one truly to her liking, but with the next two gyms involving grass types and psychic types, it would be a wise idea to get one.
Nearby, Aegislash and Clefable were keeping watch. The fairy type generally took middle watch since the moon was at its brightest whilst Aegislash was happy to spend the whole night out before spending the day in his pokeball. Tyranitar was sleeping close by, his bulky form serving as an additional shield against the wind. Pachirisu was sleeping on Diana’s chest, features drawn into a faint grown that eased when Diana reached up sleepily to run one hand down his back.
Back when he and Diana had been younger, they’d talked about all the gyms they’d beat and the leagues they’d win. They’d done some of that already, but he’d never realised how much he would appreciate moments like these. He could understand now why Lightning had eventually retired despite the thrill of victory. That thrill burned brightly but went out swiftly. It was these moments that lingered longer in the heart.
Closing his eyes, Inferno gave a low rumble of contentment. Maybe this was why Diana had decided to spend a few days in the forest.

gym leader au 1 of 2
it’s a forum site for cryptids and urban legends..? the top post at the moment is called “THE WRATH OF WEDGEHURST IS REAL”. the main body reads as below:
Everyone in the south of Galar has heard the story & everyone looking at supernatural icebergs knows about it but to those who live under a rock, the Wrath of Wedgehurst is an urban legend based around the forests east of Wedgehurst’s main town. People who go into the forest say it decays before their eyes, more dying & rotted trees the further you go, some deep inside oozing a blue sap of sorts that incapacitates those who are in proximity to it for too long. Gas masks corrode as you walk. Not even our regional Koffing & Weezing can stand being there, let alone any poison types. The stories go that the area used to be a site of refuge for nature itself, hiding from humanity’s exploitation and lack of care found in the settlement. As the town began to grow however, there was nothing healthy to inhabit the area and so nature’s vitriol took root. Naturally I went into the woods today. I’ve tried going in multiple times over the years but my fascination with the legend recently pushed me to try a lot more now. I only got to see the sap this Tuesday passed. Today wasn’t meant to be much further. I brought my usual kit: multiple gas masks, my Slurpuff and my boyfriend’s Spritzee. My ragtag team reached the first signs of the Wrath in good time and good health. Then the trees started dying. Spritzee tagged out four minutes after the trees were collapsing in on themselves and one another. I was through 2 masks when sap dripped onto my Slurpuff. He cried out and tried to lick it off and cried more. You know I mentioned I brought my usual kit? That wasn’t quite true. My usual kit includes antidotes. I’d stopped buying as many as it takes to get to the sap once I could get there without. They get expensive quick! Slurpuff’s on the ground panting and flailing his arm about, I’m frantically trying to get him into his ball so I can run him to the center. He finally gets in and I run. Mask breaks even more as I draw more hazardous air to it. Worst part? In my max panic I didn’t turn around. I was running deeper in. Of course I only realise this when I reached the furthest place I’d ever gotten. A huge clearing. The ground was all dry and cracked. Straight ahead was the remains of 2 trees intertwined into a fragile ball. I don’t know if it was the fumes or the stress or both or what but everything beyond this is hazy and I’m remembering as much as I can. I made the smart choice of spinning around in circles trying to see where I’d come from until I felt something at my feet. A… Trubbish? I froze immediately. Nothing is meant to be able to live here though, so how is this little thing..? Sap drenched sticks break above and land to my side. I saw something land on the branch ball and crawl around it, making chittering sounds as it did. Blue light emerged from the ball and dropped down out of it. Something much bigger jumped down after it. Both approached slowly. The blue lighted smaller thing was a rather scrawny, off-coloured Toxtricity. The other thing… I think was a person. Tall and gaunt with hair covering their face, skin stained blue. They made noise at me, I don’t know what kind. I just kept begging for help deliriously, I even tried to let Slurpuff out but it wouldn’t work. The person (I’ll stick with it for now until more evidence arises) yelled something. Kinda like Dro. And I was picked up by Arc knows. I ended up out side the trees by the main path with a revive and a purple heart badge. TL;DR The Wrath of Wedgehurst exists and it’s a secret gym??
comments are calling it an inconsistent hoax.

Pokéchronology, Volume I: Yellow
Day 3
Gonna be a bit of a shorter update post today, I'm afraid. I was preoccupied with searching for my old Gameboy Advance, cleaning it up, and getting it to work so that I could test the Gameboy Link Cable that I bought, so I didn't play much today. I've been trying to pace myself with the Pokémon gaming sessions as well so that I don't get burned out, which is why it's been a few days since I last posted.
I'd like to talk more about my collection progress but I'll do that in another post soon enough. A lot has gone on behind the scenes that I'm excited to share.
Exceedingly minor spoilers for Pokémon Yellow up ahead.
Route 6
Boy, there are a lot of strong trainers on the way to Vermilion City, aren't there? I'm exaggerating, but a couple of them did have evolved Pokémon which held up a lot better against my team than a lot of the stuff I was fighting before.
Prior to heading down this route, I left a Sandshrew I caught, named Lemon, in the hands of the person running the daycare south of Cerulean City. I also bought a bunch of Antidotes and some Awakenings and Paralyze Heals, since I've got a good bit of money now and I can afford to buy a lot more items. They really came in handy, too, with all the status moves I had to deal with on Route 6.
Vermilion City
It seems there are a few different directions I can go from here; Diglett Cave and Route 11 are to the east, and of course there's Lt. Surge's gym. But I decided to head straight for the S.S. Anne. I've got a boarding ticket, after all. And I want that Cut HM.
I had researched it earlier because I wasn't sure how I was meant to use it. Misty tells you that you can use the move outside of battle once you defeat her, which is pretty confusing because she makes it sound like you can just... use it. And there aren't any Pokémon that learn the move naturally in Generation I. It's just weird that she tells you you can do something before you actually have the ability to do it.
Then again, it's possible that you can go to the S.S. Anne before fighting Misty, so maybe that's why. Maybe I'll try that if I ever come back to this game, but I'm getting off topic.
Exploring the cruise ship a bit, I find out that it's basically just a location where you do a bunch of trainer battles, and probably get the HM as a reward once you've won all of them. I got through all the main section as you enter the boat and did a little bit of the section below that before I stopped playing today. Those Gentlemen really cough up the dough. I think I'm going to be fairly comfortable on money for a while.
That wraps it up. One of the things I wanted to do after beating Misty's gym is go back and use Cut on all the small trees encountered on my journey so far, but unfortunately there seems to be no way back to Mt. Moon from Cerulean City. I guess I'm just stuck going forward for a while, but I'll keep that stuff in mind once I'm able to go back.
