I read the first Lockwood & Co book!! Turns out middle grade novels can be fun at any age! I enjoyed all the spooky ghost imagery language and I especially loved the "pile of laundry on chair is actually a ghost" moment, because that's such a classic fear
Over the last couple years I've been reveling in the fact that I have the time & ability to read novels for adults - I remember trying to read a few in high school/ middle school and I was never able to get through them. But now my brain is 27! - so I haven't read much YA. Reading this novel reassured me that there's still loads to enjoy in any book regardless of the target age range. There are lots of books I remember fondly and look forward to revisiting! And lots of series I look forward to reading for the first time <3

The Unlucky Ones by vidiotsjrock
As my Valicer In The Dark AU has been a theme this week, I decided to hit up the YouTubes for a song that might fit it -- and I happened across this video, tucked away in my old "favorites" list (remember when you could favorite things on YouTube?). I'm quite sure I originally favorited it because I enjoyed the A Series Of Unfortunate Events movie and thus liked the music video, but the song is a good one too. And, listening to it again, I did find myself thinking that there was a Valicer In The Dark vibe to the lyrics! I mean, just the title of the song alone applies to them pretty well -- their crew was formed in response to them being very unluckily accused of the murder of a potential Spirit Warden and having to run from the Bluecoats. And when you get to the chorus:
Come out and dance a while Out in the black cat infested night We dance on ledges and spires With losers and liars We don't have a thing to fear
Yeah, that totally makes me think of the Three Pillars having various adventures and pulling various jobs while avoiding the Bluecoats and the attentions of rival gangs. :) So yeah, more than happy to feature this 14-year-old video on my tumblr today! Perhaps next week we shall get something more modern -- we shall see. :P

4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
"Daddy, how did you meet Mummy?" Bea trilled in a high falsetto. She dropped her voice and attempted a low baritone. "Well, son, it all started when I kicked a tennis ball at Mummy's tit—"
11: What do you like best about this fic?
The fact that my plan is for Remus to transition more and more into Holiday Remus mode with every passing chapter.

a series of unfortunate events (1/2):
“They didn't understand it, but like so many unfortunate events in life, just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't so.”

Do you think there’s anyone out there who picked up a Series of Unfortunate Events book as a kid, read Lemony Snicket’s warnings on the back, and actually went ‘better not then’ and put it back?

being a kid can give you the weirdest first impressions of really famous and well-rounded actors. i think this affected me especially as a very sheltered kid who truly never watched anything except kids media in the 1990s-2000s. like, oh, james caan? the dad from elf? or kathy bates, as in miss hannigan in the 1999 television movie version of annie?? (which also starred alan cumming, except my first impression of him would’ve been spy kids probably)

So during a Series of Unfortuante Events title song, Count Olaf keeps telling us to look away. But during the last 2 episodes, he BEGS us not to keep watching and leave, because as long as we don’t watch the last episode He. Doesn’t. Die he keeps on living and so does the woman he loves
