looking back through your stuff, I think you might be the reason I finally pull it together and watch the predator movies, I've always been meaning to but just never got around to it
Do it, yo! At least the first one and Prey, those two are fun, rock-solid movies. I love Predator and I love Prey. Go for it.
Predator 2, I have a real deep fondness for, but I can also understand why people think it's a shit movie haha. So only go into that one after watching the first and deciding how much you like it ahaha
Predators is pretty good, The Predator is...something (very stupid).
I enjoy AvP for what it is, even if it's not perfect, and if I could bury AvP2 into a deep dark hole to fester, I would.

Would you be bred by the Predalien from AvP2 - yes or no?
Bonus question - would you prefer it done orally or not (or both ways at the same time 👀)
The Predalien only breeds by laying eggs in pregnant people so that's a non starter for me
if we ignore that then uuuuh yeah fucking obviously

What *is* the predator in AVP? I know nothing
Anon I’m kissing you rn THANK YOU FOR INDULGING ME !!!!!!!! I should mention I had to consult the Xenopedia for a few minor bits of info, like exact numbers, but the rest of this is safely stored within my rancid little brain… which should speak to my level of boundless avp brainrot… (also this post is enormous sorry !!!!!)
Quick rundown of AVP itself for those uninitiated: AVP is the crossover of the Alien and Predator franchises. Although the 2004 and 2007 movies aren’t technically canon to the movie timeline, the crossover is canon to the franchises (along with the Blade Runner universe, believe it or not!) which can be seen in various books, comics, and even easter eggs in the 1981 Predator 2 movie. Basically, the Predators (yautja) hunt the Aliens (xenomorphs) for sport/ as a rite of passage to become adults.
Now onto the Predators!
Culture:
“Predators” are nicknamed that by humans who encounter them, but their species is called “yautja.” They come from the planet Yautja Prime and are a highly advanced/intelligent species, arguably more so than humans. They come from tribe-like communities and value strength and resilience above all else. Their society is matriarchal, and female yautja are significantly larger/ more powerful than the males. It’s widely accepted in-fandom that yautja hunters take trophies (usually skulls) from their prey specifically to present to potential mates, to make themselves appear more desirable and worthy of attention. They’re somewhat mammalian despite their appearance, and participate in village-raising of their young (which are born live). Female yautja have yet to be seen on-screen, but they are featured in a lot of the literature as hunters.
Due to significantly longer lifespans than humans, they reach adulthood/ maturity at around 50-60 years old. Their status of responsibility/ worthiness/ adulthood is basically determined by their ability to successfully hunt and kill xenomorphs (called “kiande amedha” or “hard meat”). Killing a xeno means they are “blooded” (marked) as warriors, and are therefore worthy to hunt as an adult.
Scar (AVP) marking his bio-mask with acidic xenomorph (facehugger) blood after becoming a Blooded warrior:
Tumblr media
Physicality:
The yautja actually have a lot of physical variation which I think is really cool. Generally they’re between 7-8 ft tall (roughly 500~ lbs), and very muscular. They can have different skin patterns (i.e. green, red, blackish, etc) and freckles/mottling on their reptilian-like skin.
City Hunter (Predator 2) (left) with red patterning, and Scar (AVP) (right) with freckles!:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is even genetic variation seen, like with Feral (Prey) and Beserker (Predators 2010), whose facial structures looks vastly different than “regular” yautja. These guys are thought to be subspecies.
Example of Wolf (AVP2) next to Feral (Prey) from the Xenopedia. Feral lacks a substantial forehead crest, facial markings/patterning, and has substantially thinned tresses:
Tumblr media
Some have quills along spots where humans grow body hair (eyebrows, abdomen), and all have long fleshy tendrils (usually called tresses or dreads) that grow from the bony crests of their skull. These tresses are sensory organs and bleed when cut. It’s generally thought in-fandom that the tresses are highly sensitive and somewhat equivalent to erogenous zones/ are intended to attract mates. They can vary in length from short (usually no shorter than neck length) to very long (which is seen as more desirable… and yeah I have to agree). They are often decorated with rings and bones.
Scar (AVP) and his gorgeous long tresses:
Tumblr media
Additionally, Yautja Prime is a hot-climate planet, and yautja canonically don’t do well in cold weather (as seen in the AVP novel where Scar gets windburn from the Antarctic cold). Their thick hide makes them very impervious to damage, but not unkillable; they are also very hard to outsmart given their high intelligence and advanced technology. However, they seem to have somewhat impaired vision without the use of the infrared lenses of their bio-masks (as well as other light-spectrum filters), which has caused problems for hunters dealing with quick-witted humans before.
Some examples of how the yautja see: regular vision (left), thermal bio-mask vision (middle), ultraviolet bio-mask vision (right):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hunting & relationship with humans:
They have their own language and writing system. While they communicate predominately with clicks, roars, and growls, and don’t have any lips to really form words, they are capable of replicating human language on occasion. They also use their bio-masks to repeat and string together recorded pieces of human language. Generally, interactions with humans are violent, with humans the ones being hunted, but on occasion humans and yautja have teamed up. The only humans who have canonically been Blooded by yautja have been women, which is awesome.
Yautja have an honor code while hunting that basically goes as follows: only hunt worthy prey, and don’t break the code. There’s lots of interesting facets to the honor code, so I suggest followed that link if you’re actually interested. The yautja who break this honor code are excommunicated, labeled “Bad Blood(s)”, and hunted. It’s not necessarily canon, but they also seem to follow a sort of debt of gratitude code; if a human saves or otherwise helps a yautja, chances are they’ll return the favor of protection— or in the case of Alexa Woods, for saving Scar and killing a xeno, becoming Blooded.
While usually humans fall into the category of “worthy prey” there have been instances of yautja respecting them, and even treating them as equals.
I am incredibly invested in yautja lore and love talking about it. If you’re still curious I could continue talking forever lol

Hey! Can you please tell me about these books? You got titles? I really wanna do 12 year old me a favor and read them.
omg yes absolutely
so i ended up only reading about 2.5 of the 3 books of the Machiko Noguchi saga, published 1994 - 1999, these are what the first AVP movie is taking from in some form (although they're more set in the Alien timeline of future space travel instead of modern day like the movie) but the first book is still near and dear to my heart. The good two are written by Steve Perry and daughter Stephani Perry, whomst! by the way! If you're familiar with the Resident Evil novels, SD Perry is Stephani Perry here!
This book is the one you wanna read, it's a closed story and rewired my brain chemistry: Aliens vs. Predator: Prey, 1994.
Tumblr media
(Thriftbooks link, although I bet you can find it for even cheaper?)
This first book stays with me even if I'm not directly thinking about it; around the same time I read it I had DigimonWorld Dusk for the NDS and I got a friend to get Dawn so I could have best boy Guilmon, and I named him after the main Yautja character Dachande. Ever since with Digimon games, Dachande is the name I give my Guilmon. This book is great because it's told from both Machiko's perspective and Dachande's, so you see a glimpse into Yautja society and thought/language as well as how Machiko saw them. I haven't read it in years but it was formative stuff.
The second book, Hunter's Planet, was by a different author in the worst way and it shows; not only was the plot like, weirdly dumb in a modern failed attempt at a blockbuster way but the second book was my first run-in with like "An editor should've caught that" type mistakes in mass published stuff. It's because of this book that when I write a sequence of a lot of dialogue without tags/noting who is speaking I go back and comb through it because, personality aside, the author of this second book David Bischoff would write long discussions between Machiko and her android buddy but it was immensely difficult to tell who was saying what because they pretty much spoke exactly the same. Kind of disappointing, imo skippable but maybe it's good in a B-Movie way now.
The third book, War, marks SD Perry's return! And it really showed from what I remember of the half that I read of it, sadly I did not finish it.
Since then I think Machiko has appeared in comic runs and is referenced in other things in the more print-world stuff rather than movies. AVP1 the movie was an iteration on Machiko's story, and I really dont' remember it being that bad of a film. I think people were upset because they interpreted the marking of the woman's face as romantic (???) instead of respect, which, to the book's credit and less the movie's, the movie didn't take its time to explain Yautja culture and probably assumed the audience would figure it out. Which, some did, but the backlash was so great that in AVP2 the Yautja, the only other sentient alien in the movie, did not interact with humans at all. Which tbh made for a worse movie! So. Y'know, happy reading!

((WELCOME BACK YALL! I just wanted to apologize on my strange upload schedule, it’s hard to upload videos during or before classes in my collage. Though I do really hope you all have enjoyed so far, but we are back in Predator Hunting Grounds for a limited time! Not gonna lie this Build was fun to do, however I realized after recording and back in my collage dorm…I used the wrong class for the build! I’m practically kicking myself but regardless I think it looks pretty cool still. If you want the real Class to use in my opinion it be City Hunter. So without further ado let’s introduce a this newest build with nothing but Royal Fashion^^))
The Predator King’s Lore:
The Predator King is a complete enigma, more so then the Female Yautja’s & the Xenomorph king in any story. The mysterious millennia-old Yautja is said to lead several Predator clans, or perhaps the entire Yautja race. He is a rare occurrence in Alien vs. Predator lore but lore suggest that he has constructed with Xenomorph trophies or past hunted trophies a throne he uses to monitor clans and his race on Yautja Prime or his mother ship. Now since that is literally all there is to this Yautja, I have decided to locate all forms of Predator King Lore here as a list of all known references towards Predator king:
(Relations to Prince on AVP2)
Prince was a royal Yautja who arrived on LV-1201 in response to a distress signal sent by an ancient Predator in the Aliens vs. Predator 2 video game. Presumably, he was the son of a King Predator that we never saw in the game. It was possible that he used his father's ship, as it was more elegant and royal in design compared to other Yautja ships. Prince survived the hunt on LV-1201 and would one day become a King himself. Unfortunately, the story never received a direct sequel, but Prince is still a popular and well-known Yautja character in Yautja / Predator Media.
(NECA’s Clan Leader Figure)
The Predator Clan Leader is a tall alpha Predator and the leader of a clan or several clans of Predators. Originally an action figure from Kenner in the 90ties without much backstory, NECA did a reimagining of him in 2016 and was the biggest Predator figure produced at that point. NECA later released the Predator throne which consisted of the Alien Queen skull and several smaller trophies. The Clan Leader fits on the throne perfectly and is a good possible version of the Predator king.
(Kalakta)
Kalakta was probably the closest that the Predators had for a leader of their race. He was thousands of years old and fought against humans, Xenomorphs and the enigmatic Drukathi race during his long reign. Kalakta appeared in the Rage War trilogy as a wise and competent leader that every Predator respected. He called for a gathering of Predators to fight against the Rage threat together with Colonial Marines. We don't know his appearance in the book but this fan art depicts a Predator leader in a similar position.
That is all the Knowledge and Lore for this what would seem a very badass and powerful Predator Character. It truly is a shame The Predator King doesn’t get more attention or known lore, but I guess that comes with “trying to keep the Predator species a mystery”. I hope you all enjoyed this video and lore!

'predators' the third movie was actually enjoyable, and i wished the whole gang in the predator 2018 survived. just bc like. i actually liked how they wanted to keep the son safe yknow. like nebraska fist bumping and carrying rory. nettles and the space alien dog. its just. like silly at the same time. also the thing between coyle and baxley lmao.

This Fall I'll be working on an indie comic with Fernando Ruiz! I'm incredibly excited about this. I've been a fan of Fernando's work for years now, and I can't wait to see what he does with my story 'Canterbury Adventures!'
But I'm going to have to wait, because life is unfair and Fernando can't get everything done all at once. So in the meantime I want to share some of Fernando's work, starting with the Archie classic 'three on a soda'.
Let's look at the original by Bob Montana
Tumblr media
I don't know if this is the first Archie-Betty-Veronica-share-a-soda picture, but it's definitely the classic compostion for Archie Comics. Bob Montana's style is very different from Dan DeCarlo's style. DeCarlo wouldn't start working for Archie Comics until nearly a decade after Archie and the gang were created, but the way he drew the characters would quickly become the official art style.
Tumblr media
By Fernando Ruiz. An inkwash version of the classic composition, done in the DeCarlo Archie Comics' house-style. It's a simple piece but you can see Fernando's personal style in the way he fills in the background details.
Tumblr media
It's a surprisingly adaptable composition. This is Fernando's unofficial parody for AvP2 (He did the original Archie v Predator, but not the sequel), with inks and colours by Fabio Redivo.
Tumblr media
Fernando's pencils. Again you can see more of his personal style coming through in the background.
Personally I like looking at an artist's original pencils or sketches. The rougher draft often has more energy than the inked version. Fabio Redivo's inks and colours make the piece look more finished and more solid - the sprinkles on the malted and the slight pattern on the wall behind Betty and Veronica are great touches - but unfinished pencils have an appeal of their own.
You can find more of Fernando's work at his own website. You can also find some of his other projects at Die Kitty Die and Pixie Trix Comix. As he works on Canterbury Adventures! I'll post some of his sketches and character designs here. Later I'll include a link to our own site.

Prey is the true Predator 3
...yes...I am going to start out this post by saying that...a few minutes ago. I literally had just watched Prey, the 2022 film in its entirety. That includes credits...even before seeing the film, I had wondered about what my reaction would be. And that would be including two. Because I want to express my feelings on what I had just watched. This is all just my opinion. Including as a long time Predator fan and...still a Yautja fanboy. I have some things to say.
The first way I will talk about the film will be as an extremely happy, and very surprised fanboy. Be warned, this will all be in caps lock, and I will sound very immature. This is what I feel like. Here we go.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT! I AM SO SORRY FOR EVER FUCKING DOUBTING YOU DAN TRACHTENBERG AND PATRICK AISON! WHY COULDN'T I SEE THIS IN A FUCKING MOVIE THEATER?! THIS FILM IS AS GOOD AS THE FIRST TWO FILMS THAT I LOVE SO DEARLY! AND SOME WAYS IT'S SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST FILM! WE HAVE A PREDATOR FILM THAT IS NEAR THE LEVEL AND POSSIBLY EVEN BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL! IT SEEMED FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE! THIS WAS A FILM I DIDN'T KNOW I NEEDED BUT I GOT IT! I AM SO FUCKING HAPPY MY REACTIONS DURING AND AFTER THE FILM ENDED HOLY SHIT DUDE!
Now...that is out of the way. The second way is to view the film more...maturely...like an actual critic. But not like a full review or anything. But seriously...
Good God...I had thought about crying after the film ended, and even now. I may be overreacting. But watching this film...after the shit I had to endure in 2018. I worry if this was in theaters, I worry of how I would be in the audience...because oh my God...it's strangely funny. But really, I am so fucking happy.
I've seen some good films this year. Such as The Batman, Top Gun Maverick, and Elvis. I'll also put in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 because I love that film as well because I'm a long time Sonic fan too. But this is just me, but this may possibly be my favorite film of the year.
I swear, I feel like reinstalling AVP2 2001 sometime now because of this. Because again, whatever everyone else feels. Even though I haven't been in a huge Predator mood lately. But I'm again, so happy with what I had just witnessed.
Yes, the acting is great, Amber Midthunder is awesome, the direction for this film is awesome, the score is awesome, and the Feral Predator himself...I love him too. Again, this is all my first reaction. But again, when I watch films, I...critique them as I watch them...so much about this film was good. And I'm being legit, I was pacing back and forth saying oh my God while the credits were going on.
I feel like Prey is the true Predator 3 film we should've gotten years ago. Because good God, and I finally put Patrick's name in the caps lock paragraph. But seriously, I shouldn't have doubted Dan and Patrick's work on this.
Prey, Predator, and Predator 2.
That is my Predator trilogy. Just like how I see Alien, Alien Isolation, and Aliens as my Alien trilogy. And I wouldn't want it any other way. Yet I have just read Dan Trachtenberg has stated there are discussions for additional installments after the release of this movie. Because alright, I'm intrigued. Because this man and Patrick gave us what is SOMEWHAT the "Aliens" of the Predator franchise. I am so glad this is becoming so successful. After the shit Predator has endured, this franchise deserves it.
Good God, this film is better than any of my fan fiction ideas. Because this film gave us something new, something really good. And my ideas were basically...they're still cool. One of them was basically Terminator 2, but with Predators. Including me heavily using the comics which...might be a bad thing at times. I still love the expanded universe that was introduced in the 90's.
I love this film. I think I've made that clear enough. Even if before seeing it, I saw and read certain spoilers by mistake. But that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the film. My experience was still so great and seeing the film for myself...I loved it so much.
I'll reveal that during the Predator scenes I was so overjoyed seeing. Particularly two scenes with the first "Reveal" to the characters where I kept saying "Ah" a bunch. Holy Crap, Feral is basically the kind of Yautja I wanted to see in a film in a long time. Especially in that scene with the other antagonists. But again, there's so much other good stuff. Even if I rewinded certain scenes a few times. This was again, a movie I didn't know I needed.
So yeah, I fucking loved this film.
