B.J. Hunnicutt), Wayne Rogers (Capt. "Trapper" John McIntyre) and Loretta Swit (Maj. Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan) and series executive producers Gene Reynolds and Burt Metcalfe. In these intimate, highly personal remembrances, the creation and evolution of the show’s iconic characters are revealed, alongside rare and never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage, photos and stories.

Writer/producer Larry Gelbart, as well as additional series stars Larry Linville (Maj. Frank Burns), Harry Morgan (Col. Sherman T. Potter), McLean Stevenson (Lt. Col. Henry Blake) and David Ogden Stiers (Maj. Charles Emerson Winchester III) are remembered through a vibrant collection of clips from the series as well as in rarely-seen archival interviews. With unique experiences, observations and memories from 11 seasons of M*A*S*H, this special will make audiences laugh, touch their heartstrings, and leave them on a nostalgic high while celebrating the sustained brilliance of the iconic sitcom.

The M*A*S*H two-and-a-half-hour series finale that first aired on CBS in 1983 remains the highest rated telecast in television history, delivering an incredible 77 audience share and 60.2 rating. To-date, the show has never left the air, continuously running in syndication, on basic cable and now streaming on Hulu. The series was produced by 20th Television.

Today's compilation:

70 Ounces of Gold: Golden Hits, Vol. II 1989 R&B / Soul / Pop / Girl Groups / Doo Wop / Rock & Roll

Pretty sweet, eclectic, and extensive slate of oldies here from New Jersey's Compose Records that gathers together a broad range of hits from the 50s and 60s. This second installment in the label's oddly titled 70 Ounces of Gold series—in which each minute of runtime is equal to an ounce(?)—comes with unmistakable standards on it, like The Kingsmen's pioneering piece of early 60s garage rock-proto-punk sloppiness, "Louie, Louie," which was such a strange song in its time that it even invited an investigation from the FBI into its slurred and barely intelligible lyrics for being potentially subversive 😂.

But there are some less remembered gems on here too, like B.J. Thomas' unfortunately overshadowed "Hooked on a Feeling," which ended up being much more famously covered by Stockholm's Blue Swede, with its iconically goofy "ooga-chocka" backing chant helping to take it all the way to #1 in the US in the early 70s, and its further inclusion on the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack enabling a massive resurgence for a newer generation as well. In my heart of hearts, though, I truly believe that the original B.J. Thomas version from the late 60s, which also happens to include some electric sitar on it(!), is the more superior rendition as a heartfelt pop tune.

And another overlooked oldie but goodie on this CD is The Esquires' "Get On Up," the debut single from this Milwaukee-based R&B group that went to #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the R&B chart. A really infectious tune that features some darling, harmonized male falsettos and also a brief vocal repurposing of a piece of melody from Eddie Floyd's classic, "Knock On Wood," which had only come out the year prior, and was later turned into a tremendous disco hit by Amii Stewart ⚡🌩.

So, just another well put together release of oldies here. Stone-cold classics whose inclusions don't come as a surprise at all, featured alongside some quality songs that haven't received nearly as much shine since their release. It's pretty much all you could ever ask for from one of these types of albums.

Sleepy Hollow

Today I listened to an audio book rendition of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, as read by B.J. Harrison. I like this story. Admittedly I got lost at a few parts in the reading because I was doing errands while listening but it was a nice change of pace to my usual listening to music while out. Harrison does an amazing job at narration with varying voices and inflections. The narrative itself less about the infamous Headless Horseman for those who haven't read or heard the story, but instead details a classic tale of two small town men vying for the hand of their communities woman in a well off family. Whether the finale was foul or fantastical is up to the reader; though Irving I find leans more to one side than the other. All in all I gave it 4 stars and I will definitely be revisiting this tale.
