19. Do you have any playlists/music you listen to while working on production?

So many. Legitimately, one for each character. You can find them on my Spotify page (below, if tumblr co-operates).

But I also have a 2nd, secret January playlist that wasn’t (until now, so I can show y’all) public that has more… villainous songs on there. And also sadder songs. He’s having A Time.

Way back when the discord was just me, Pinja (logo designer), Mick (theme composer), and Paige (Elaine) I used to post random memes along with updates and one of the first things I posted was the aforementioned playlist. And then I forgot about it for ~2 months.

And THEN we started adding cast to the discord and Rhys (who I do not know very well at all at this point I cannot stress this enough) texts me and goes ‘I’m listening to your January playlist. Hozier. Love it.’

And I’m like ‘Oh, well then, guess I can never speak to this guy again, that’s so embarrassing.’ So I told him ‘That’s so embarrassing, I can literally never speak to you again’ but that didn’t really work out for me, huh?

BUT WAIT IT GETS WORSE another month after that he tells me ‘Oh, I re-made your January playlist on the old man music app I use so I can listen to it sometimes and think about the show’ (<- exact phrasing) and I was like ‘You WHAT?!?! WHYYYYYYY???’ And instead of saying ‘To spite you personally, of course’ he said ‘Because I like it, and it helps me understand the character.’

And sometimes I just think about how much he had to give a shit to do that and it makes me really upset in a happy way. BUT NO ONE TELL HIM, HE’S NOT ALLOWED TO KNOW IT MEANS A LOT TO ME WHEN HE DOES NICE THINGS BC THEN HE’LL TRY TO DO MORE NICE THINGS AND THAT’S NOT OKAY.

I've returned! I'm listening to Hozier rn and bc my brain is Good Omens now, I've been thinking about a lot of his songs in context of the show and they fit soo painfully well.

In this essay (not really) I'd like to point out some songs that you can add to your GO playlists as well as just talk about Hozier and his lyrics for a bit bc outside of the context of GO bc they are gorgeous and this is my post goddammit.

- Unkown/Nth - this is first in my list bc it is calling to me rn and fits the best with the emotional beats of season 2. It discusses the fear of being unknown in a relationship, for the one you love to not see you for who you are.

Let's not forget to mention that this song is representative of the 9th circle of hell - the Treachery Circle - circle of betrayal. Getting into an elevator to go to heaven and leaving your demon bf is a bit treacherous Az, sry.

GO aside this song is beautiful, it is so earnest and wonderfully captures the feeling of not being seen in a relationship, having the other person just completely unaware of who you really are. And of course, stabbing you in the back too.

Just listen to it, its great.

- Of course we have the gem: From Eden - Crown of the collection. This song is about the snake that tempted Eve in the garden of Eden (and many other things besides). The lyrics are perf for GO, given the context and the chorus "Honey, you're familiar, like my mirror years ago" invokes nostalgia, perhaps of being an angel? And the line about going "to the strand, a picnic planned for you and me" just gives me feels bc we know our boys love a good picnic. "I slithered here from eden just to sit outside your door" okay Crowley.

- Take Me To Church - I feel the need to include this as I feel people will ask if I don't. I don't get A/C feels per se from this, but I understand why it is brought up a lot (other than being on Crowleys playlist), as it does discuss the hypocrisy of the Church and how they use your sins against you for their own gain.

- All Things End - sounds like "nothing lasts forever" 😭 I see the lyrics to this being about a relationship not working out, despite those partaking in it wanting it to and trying to give it another shot. It also talks about everything ending, and despite changing this - this should not change our plans - sounds v 2nd coming-y to meee.

- Francesca: Love the lyrics to this one, it explores themes of love, its endurance and power in the midst of challenges that would most likely shake others devotion. The very last paragraph speaks to me - it sounds light compared to the rest of the songs and I'll let the lyrics speak for themselves:

more than a woman is the ultimate kevin day song to me……. im so glad you agree…… i knew you would understand. i was listening to that playlist the other day and realized i HADNT added it yet and it felt like an oversight so i had to fix it immediately. it was very important to me the whole playlist wasn’t sad. i stsrted my kevin playlist in the height of me losing my mind about him last year in july (i read the books for the first time at the end of may!) but it only made me crazier so i held off making the jean one until november LOL. his is def a little more sad but i think a good portion of the songs are hopeful :-) and YEAH jean is soooo hozier to me. i gave myself a limit on how many hozier songs i could add. it will probably be broken eventually

DBSIDBSID. the kandrew beef is Personal and it’s so funny. i am working on making them get closer it just takes a lot of time bc andrew simply does not like to stick around. he comes to a sort of truce with them at some point, mostly after he and jean have a Talk alone, but he still doesn’t like kevin for a while. there IS side andreil tho…. neil is 26 :3 he comes to visit kevjean in paris for a bit and immediately causes problems. but the problems help them get their shit together so it’s fine! andrew is of course intrigued. most of it happens in the background tho bc they like to disappear together…… but neil actually ends up in foster care and gets adopted by wymack when he’s around 13, which is around the same age andrew is adopted and meets jeremy, so they understand each other still :) they do a lot of sneaking around and do not want their relationship perceived at all vs jeremy knox head of the PDA committee and very happy for his own friend finding love.

the biting…….. jeremy falls somewhere in the middle of the spectrum but he does suffer from the most intense feelings of love anyone has ever felt and will latch on like a dog and not let go sometimes. it really depends on his mood and what they’re doing how hard he bites ^-^ jean almost never complains but kevin always does. as is how they are. and they really both love attacking kevin. sitting there biting at his neck and shoulders and jean in particular likes gnawing on the wrist bone. jeremy is only a few inches shorter than kevin but will not hesitate to push him around….. dreamy sigh. at first he’s very nervous about overstepping Anything around either of them but once he knows that they actually like him he becomes such a menace. it’s his life’s duty to make kevin day, his childhood celebrity crush, a little embarrassed and whiny. both he and jean are soooo happy to tease kevin and kevin complains constantly about being ganged up on. jeremy is actually still IN college too, he turns 23 toward the beginning of the fic (i. hc him as a cancer!) and he and andrew have their fifth year to get through so he’s really just some college kid nibbling on and picking on them and taking over their apartment. trust that jean gets teased too he wouldn’t want anyone left out!

JEANFO….. jean….. my apple strudel….. there is so much i could say about him but it feels hard to do him justice…… he really is so special. he’s a little more healed of course bc he’s 28 and has always had kevin keeping contact with him. kevin got out at 14 so jean was there for 6 years without him and it’s really. it’s not a good time for him. but kevin refuses to lose contact and even sneaks across state lines to see him at 16 when he gets his license (with 14yo neil). jean has always had something to hold onto and live for. so jean is doing okay……. he still struggles and he’s very stubborn so he would rather AVOID things and kevin isn’t the kind of person who’s going to push him to face them (kevin has his own things to avoid) but he gets a good push from jeremy. and he LOVESSSS keremy. it’s one of his greatest joys that the two people he loves most care about each other the way they do. he’s so obsessed with them and so excited to show them off when they get together with friends. he’s really a little bit of a clingy freak :-) ESPECIALLY if he gets drunk. he’s a very needy drunk and if someone doesn’t kiss him (or if he doesn’t get to bite) his whole night is ruined and they certainly can’t have that. he learns quickly he cannot keep up with jeremy Party Boy knox tho. he’s a silly guy <3 sooo bitchy to everyone outside of his boyfriends but tender with them…. they’re trusted with his girlish little heart. i could talk about him for ages but i fear tumblr will cut me off LOL our responses to each other are getting so long like we’re writing letters by candlelight to be sent post-haste…..

Apollo and Leo both have a habit of holding their hands together when they miss their partner/exes- and it's actually a habit I myself have picked up.

Valentine was created after/ while I was reading the DIE comic series- the main character's scene in prison was the main inspiration for him.

I get uncomfortable in the Lockwood and Co fandom sometimes bc occasionally ppl will heavily sexualize/write smutty fanfic about characters who are minors (I do understand that sometimes creators will age it up, which I appreciate.) and of course sometimes you walk out of the SoC/SaB fandoms wanting to fight someone who disagrees with your ship, but what’s a day without that? The coziest and sweetest in probably the Howl’s Moving Castle fandom. Basically we all just want a flower shop and a cool wizard and a gorgeous gorgeous house. So early andromache/quynh, in nature together, just enamored w/ each other. This bit is just feels very present, very physical, and i think that’s andy and quynh to a T. They’ve got each other and they’ve got the whole world to love each other in, and they don’t need anything else. Basically they’re both this meme while riding around being amazing

Now here we go w/ andy post-quynh getting put in the iron coffin, in this world that isn’t as big, isn’t as beautiful and is missing the most important thing to her. “Friendly fire” to me here means andy hurting herself for not being able to help quynh then throwing herself into every fight she could to try and stop feeling anything. Then time keeps going as it always does and she’s forced to move on, to keep fighting, to protect the people she still does have. MORE ON THIS LATER (the last verse lol)

PLS look at this and tell me it doesn’t scream early joenicky. you can’t its impossible. The fire of war and fury and anger turning to the fire of passion??? These dumb boys not knowing how to handle each other with gentleness so they decide to just be rough with each other in every way they can to try and get these dumb feelings out????? They found each other in a fight, and even when they stop with the violence they don’t really know how to stop fighting yet. They definitely hurt each other in their quest to figure out how to love each other, bc that’s all they knew how to do with each other in the beginning!!! BUT on the inside they’re SoftTM so chorus time:

Chorus works for both couples imo but I’ll start w/ joenicky. SO despite the fact that in the early days they don’t know how to reach out w/o hurting, they do want to stop hurting each other, and I think the chorus fits well for the feelings they don’t know how to express to the other (yet). When Joe laughs his ass off at Nicky getting bit by a snake bc he stepped in its hole, rather than be pissed he’s just struck dumb for a sec by how gorgeous and carefree Joe is when they’re not at each others’ throats. Joe notices Nicky spending just way too much money on a sturdy pair of shoes (bc he can’t barter well in the local langauage) bc he noticed joe’s were starting to wear thin and he wanted him to be comfortable. basically they’re both like this but with feelings 

And then, of course, throughout all of this while they’re still fighting half the time and bumbling their way through learning how to be kind, they’re both thinking “god, i hope you’re good to me.” and “i want to be good to you.” 

Then w/ andy/quynh, after quynh finds andy again they have to figure out how to be together again. they both know they want to be together, but quynh is dealing w/ so much and andy is mortal now and time is running out. but sometimes none of that matters b/c quynh is laughing at something nile said and andy is just sitting back feeling so grateful she gets to have this again at least for a little while, and praying (to who???) that she doesn’t fuck it up. Then andy is telling a story and reminiscing w/ booker and quynh thinks the exact same thing. OK last verse i am just so sorry this is the longest post ive ever written

So this verse makes me think of the first time andy and quynh see each other again. Who knows how they got to this point, it just matters that they’re there. It’s such a fragile moment, they’re both feeling such a riot of things in their chests that this could just go any way. But then quynh fiddles w/ her fingers like she used to do w/ arrow shafts when she was nervous and andy goes to tuck hair that’s no longer long behind her own ear and they realize “oh. not everything’s changed after all.” and they just fall into each other. Figuring out the future, for them and for the group, will be so hard (oh, hope you’re good to me) but for this moment alone it will all be worth it.

but let me tell you when this boy saw you, he decided in that moment he needed to be as bold as possible

you most likely met when you mother invited the anderson family over for dinner one day because she met todd’s mother in their monthly book club (kind of cute honestly)

when his eyes first met yours he knew he saw the most beautiful human being ever. it was like love at first sight but without the love

you guys hit it off instantly (your parents were very happy) and he asked you out on a date that night on your doorstep

(Leopard AU with Reed AU) Reedpaw blinks when Featherpaw comes to him and apologizes, telling him that she's sorry that Mistyfoot picked her over Reedpaw when Leopardstar rescued them and took them to Thunderclan.

Reedpaw shakes his head, and nuzzles his sister. "Feather," he meows softly. "I was safe. You weren't. If I'd had to make the decision for us, I'd have picked you over myself too. You weren't safe here. Tigerstar and Shadowclan didn't know I was Mistyfoot's kit. To be honest, I think they thought I was one of Skyheart's."

Featherpaw blinks at him, eyes wide and she whimpers. "But Reed...he could have killed you..."

"But he didn't. I'm still here--we're both still here. He failed. We're going to be okay, Feather. Let's go try that hawk Greystripe caught you and Stormpaw. I'll go rip off it's feathers for your nest."

y'know of course she feels guilty. she didn't know if he was alive or dead or worse than dead. and he looks alive and whole but -- that's not the same as being okay.

they all feel guilty, don't they.

(The three of them sit by the river.

"Anyone want to bet on what our names will be?" Stormpaw asks, his tail flicking lazily.

Featherpaw snorts. "I've got loads of options. Hope she's creative about it."

Stormpaw flicks his ear. "Nah, she'll name you -- Featherheart, probably."

Featherpaw sighs. "I don't..." She shakes her head slightly. "Bet she names him Reedheart."

"I didn't do anything," he says. "Besides, we don't know what Leopardstar names cats like." He licks his paw, dragging it behind his ear. Mistyfoot would never let him forget it if he showed up to his own warrior ceremony ungroomed. "If it was Crookedstar, then it'd be easy. Stormfur, Featherpelt, and Reed..."

"Reedfoot," Stormpaw supplies. "No, he'd do Stormfur, Featherfoot, and Reedpelt."

Featherpaw snorts, and then giggles. Reedpaw purrs. It's nice to hear her laugh -- nice to just be around them again. "Well, I bet Firestar would name us..." She pauses. "I'm not sure, actually."

"He'd name you Featherheart," Stormpaw insists. "No question."

Reedpaw puts his head on his paws. He can't speculate on what Firestar would name them. Featherpaw catches his eye. "I'm glad we're all here, together," she says.

Reedpaw purrs.)

(He's still surprised that Leopardstar named Stormpaw Stormheart. But she had given him a tiny nod when she lifted her muzzle off his head, and Reedwhisker had decided to ask him about it as soon as their vigil ended.

"I feel okay," Feathertail whispers, flicking her tail impatiently.

Mistyfoot still looks worried, and she licks Feathertail's shoulder. "Sit between them, then, and if it gets colder--"

"She'll be fine," Stonefur calls. "Stop encouraging her to break vigil."

Feathertail's ears fold softly, and she sits next to Reedwhisker, beckoning Stormheart with her tail. They're supposed to sit at different places in camp, but even if Feathertail looks unimaginably better than when she left RiverClan, Reedwhisker knows she's still in recovery. He wraps his tail around her, watching the way the moonlight distorts on the river.

Reedwhisker thinks she falls asleep at some point, her head on his shoulder, but he doesn't wake her. She'll yell at him in the morning, but her breathing slows, and Stormheart licks her head, nodding at Reedwhisker. Best to let her sleep.

When the sun rises, Feathertail turns her face into his pelt, blinking blearily.

"Your vigil is over, you know," Stonefur says. "As soon as the sun hits the horizon. You better make sure Mistyfoot didn't assign you to any patrols."

He nudges them all gently, pushing them towards their den.

"Go get some sleep." He touches his nose to Feathertail's shoulder. "Proper sleep, that is."

"I was awake all night," she says, but her voice is still heavy from sleep, and Stonefur just purrs.)

and you know. i don't know. i think i just wanted to write siblings being together. whoops.

(They all have nightmares. It would feel like the set up to a joke, if they all have nightmares didn't mean Reedwhisker seeing blind panic in Mistyfoot's eyes, or Feathertail cowering in her own den, or Stormheart barely sleeping as he looks over the rest of them, making sure everyone is accounted for.

He's not really sure what his look like. He knows what they feel like, but he's pretty sure he's gotten good at shoving down his reactions. Waking Tawnypaw because he missed his mother would have gotten him killed. Now, he thinks he just doesn't want to disrupt anyone else's sleep.

Still, he finds Mistyfoot wrapping her tail around him, purring like he was a kit. He doesn't ask, but she still answers his question. "i'm your mother. Of course I know.")

hm. it appears i've swung to fluff bc i keep trying to do angst and i just. i don't know. appeal. i was writing the mistystar kills bramblestar during the "sexy slow" part of the playlist (it's called sexy because it's got songs like "take me to church" and "nfwmb" but specifically i was listening to "river" by bishop briggs), and now i'm in the "sad slow" part, but it's like. shrike by hozier. a song that makes me cry really easily but isn't that sad.

("I'm sorry," Reedwhisker says, dipping his head towards Feathertail. They haven't talked about it for a moon, but Leopardstar is kitting and Mistyfoot and Stonefur are with her and all he can think is, "If Tigerstar knew I was Mistyfoot's kit, he never would have treated you like that."

Feathertail scowls. "He would have just treated us both terribly, Reed. It wasn't like it was all that much better when Stonefur and Stormpaw were with us."

But they both know that's a lie.

"I'm still sorry," he says.)

there we go that's some proper angst. thank you "all of my goodness is gone with you now," which is The Line, of course, but -- it's such a good line. there are a lot of good lines, really. the whole song is good lines.

anyway.

(The kits leave Leopardstar's den. She watches them anxiously, and Stonefur sits next to her.

Feathertail looks excited to see them, crouching in front of them and purring. Mistyfoot is watching Mudfur's den. He won't leave it, Reedwhisker doesn't think, because he barely does. Shadepelt visits him daily, but Reedwhisker can't bring himself to ask his previous mentor why.

"Frogkit, no!" Leopardstar cries, bolting forward. She grabs him by his scruff. "You can get closer to the water when you're older."

Stonefur pads forward slowly, giving Leopardstar space, but staying close to her side.

"He wasn't that close," she says softly, as Frogkit rejoins his siblings. "That was -- unnecessary."

"They don't know how to swim yet," Stonefur says. "Keeping them away from the river is reasonable."

Leopardstar makes a sound between a cry and a whimper. Too late, Reedwhisker realizes how private a moment he's witnessing.

"Do you want to take them back in?" Stonefur asks.

"I--" Leopardstar pauses. "We only just left."

"And I'm sure they're already tired." Stonefur watches Leopardstar carefully. His posture is soft and open, and Leopardstar brushes her tail against his.

"Let's go back," she says.

"Alright.")

there we go now i just got through the Sad Sad part of my playlist. i don't know how long i've been writing. or how many words. i just. anon you really got to me. you made me feel and think and This is the end result of that.

hm. let's shoot for something fairly happy to end.

(Stormheart wades in the water. Feathertail is helping teach Leopardstar's kits to swim. "I'll teach you too," she said, giggling, but Stormheart turned her down.

Reedwhisker stands with him now.

"It's strange," he says, "because when I'm in the water, it feels familiar. But as soon as I--"

Stormheart huffs in frustration. "I don't know. I'm a RiverClan warrior. This is supposed to be easy."

"Well, it's not," Reedwhisker says. "So, it's not. That's all there is to it."

Stormheart flicks his tail in frustration.

"Okay," Reedwhisker continues, "what's stopping you, then?"

"I can't--" Stormheart takes a shaky breath. "I keep thinking about -- slipping. That's why Featherpaw got caught. Because I slipped and Greystripe had to save me. And then I found Stonefur and..." He shake his head. "I just can't."

"So you don't," Reedwhisker says. "You don't need to swim to fish. And you can still jump out of camp, it's been a dry newleaf. So you don't, and we try again when you can."

Stormheart sighs, and Reedwhisker presses his temple against his brother's.

"Frankly," Reedwhisker says, "I'm not terribly keen on the river either."

Different reasons, same result.)
