Here are a few things I'll eat in a day. I typically don't eat a big breakfast, but I will have a big lunch. Dinners in my family are late, usually 6pm to 8pm, we typically walk after dinner, then I'll drink tea to relax before bed.

You'll probably notice a lack of beef and pork, I have trouble digesting them, so it's mostly chicken and seafood. My family also don't eat a lot of bread, it's treated more like a side than a meal.

And yeah, there's a quite a mix of cultures here. My mom's side is Greek/Egypt with Turkish influences from her great grandfather, my dad is Native American with some adopted local New Mexico flavors. Since I was originally born and raised by the ocean, seafood and sea vegetables are a big thing in my diet. They're hard to find in the southwest, but I crave them and they keep me healthy as I have low blood pressure, so I need a bit of healthy salt.

Things I'll have for breakfast:

Apple cider vinegar mixed with honey or a fruit juice, usually pomegranate juice. Gets my digestive system prepped.

Oatmeal with dates, pumpkin seeds, and seasonal fruit.

Fresh fruit or fruit jelly with yogurt. I like Greek yogurt as it's more creamy and filling.

Seaweed soup with green onions or salmon

Kefir a type of strong yogurt drink

Crepe with fruit, pine nuts and honey

Omelet with spinach or dandelion greens

Eggs boiled in black tea and star anise

Shakshuka eggs with tomato and spices

Salmon with fried eggs

Fresh tilapia corn taco

Fruit smoothies

Green tea

Yerba mate

Lunch:

A Flatbread wrap with either chicken or falafel, lettuce, feta, red onion or tomato topped with tzatziki or Tahiti

Sardines with tomato pesto on ciabatta

Basmati rice with chicken or fish with garlic, oregano, basil

Tuna with red onion and chopped mozzarella

A salad made of lightly pickled cucumber and lato (sea grapes)

Rice soup - Made with leftover tea, seaweed, sesame seeds, fish

Baby octopus with chopped tomatoes, red onion, and oregano -

Dolma - Grape leaves stuffed with spiced rice and a meat then steamed, cabbage leaves are sometimes used instead

Ta'meya or Falafel - ground chickpeas or lentils mixed with spices and fried into rounds, topped with tzatziki or hummus

Grilled cheese with strawberry and sage

Jellyfish salad with sweet vinegar and red chili

Steamed cactus pads with watermelon rind

Blue corn bread with sweet corn

Fish cakes in a crab broth with five spice seasoning

Ful medames

Peel and eat shrimp

Mussels on ice

Shawarma

Dinner:

Grilled chicken with mixed vegetables like cherry tomatoes

Vegetable bake with seasonal vegetables

Eggplant lasagna with feta and sliced tomatoes

Cioppino - Seafood in a rich tomato broth

A typical salad

Frozen vegetables popped into a microwave and served with ready cooked shrimp or a can of sardines in tomato

Pumpkin puree in a can mixed with garlic, pepper, and milk pop into microwave

Jellyfish salad with pickled vegetables and sweet chili sauce

Thin crust pizza made from a pita with tomato, cheese, and Italian seasoning

Spinach or dandelion greens omelet with cheese

Rice soup - made with tea, fish, seaweed, and green onion

Sweet potato with toppings of choice

Baked potato with peanut butter and crab paste

Wonton wrappers stuffed with cream cheese and fried

Chestnut rice - Rice with chopped chestnuts

Chopped apples with cinnamon and honey in the microwave

Bread pudding - day old bread, fruit of choice, egg, milk pop in microwave until egg is cooked

Rice pudding - cooked rice, milk, cardamom, cinnamon, and dried chopped fruit

"Hi, I'm Y/n L/n!" "And I'm Jack Champion!"

“And we are playing a segment called spill your guts or fill your guts!" You smiled with nervousness, hands in your lap. "You ready?" Jack looked up at you with his classic smile, the smell of the food radiating into your nose. "No, not at all" you laughed, holding onto the sides of the table.

"Let's take a look at the food we have on the table!" You smiled, turning the table to show everything. "So first we have some delicious...bug trifle!" Jack exaggerated, a big smile on his face as he watched you cringe at the names. "Jellyfish! Not horrible I guess" The crowed let out a "ew" Jack agreeing. "Yea, ew"

"Giant water scorpion" you squirmed, holding back a gag. "This is horrible" You read out more of the foods, the questions officially starting. "Okay Jack, I'll ask the first question" You gave him a mischievous smile, holding back a laugh. "The producers have not shown us the questions! So it's all real" You made eye contact with him, giving him a reassuring smile. "It's all real!"

"Okay, so Jack...I think I'm gonna give you…" You looked at the array of food, deciding to not start so badly. "Jack, here is your thousand-year-old egg nog" he looked at you with annoyance, biting back his lip. "Give it a sniff" you giggled, his face dropping the smile. "That's fucking disgusting! Oh no, wait can I cuss?" "No!" you shook your head, his face stuck on the expression from when he smelled the drink.

"First question" you pulled from the deck of questions, reading it to yourself with a smile. "Jack…Who is your favorite to least favorite co-star on Scream VI?" You knew he would have to drink it, he was too sweet of a person to answer a question like that. "That's so mean, I can't answer that..." "Are you actually gonna drink that?" You teased, Jack shaking his head.

"So least favorite is probably Mason.." your mouth dropped open with a smile. "I'm kidding, no uh" he cringed before taking the cup to his lips, taking a sip. "Swallow it! Swallow it!" He held up the silver bucket to his mouth, shaking his head. You watched with disgust, laughing over at the audience.

“Good job!” You clapped, Jack’s face stuck on a sour expression. “This is my payback. You’re eating that meat cube thing” You shook your head, biting back your lip, your eyes basically pleading. “Ready?!” “Absolutely not” “Great!” He said with a laugh.

“Y/n, who is your hit song “Nonsense” really about?” You glared at him, the audience letting out a gasp. “Come on Y/n! Tell us! Or you could always just eat the tongue jello” If it were about any other person you probably would’ve told. But you knew it would be too embarrassing to tell Jack it was about him on live television.

Your lips bent into a frown, shaking your head as you took the spoon to the food in front of you. “That’s disgusting” “I know” you sighed, looking at the clear and pink jello in front of you. You held back your breath as you put it in your mouth. The taste and texture made you want to throw up, quickly spitting it into the bucket.

“You guys are horrible” you coughed, Jack just smiling at you. “You could’ve answered the question!” “That’s never happening”

“Okay! So Jack you’re gonna have the delicious cod sperm today!” His eyebrows furrowed, looking at the plate of bean shaped like sperm. “How…how do they get it out?” You chuckled, shrugging before reading out the question. “Jack, you have mentioned before that you’ve had a crush on one of your co-stars. Who is it?”

His heart pounded out of his chest, feeling his face get hot. He looked at you and then at the platter in front of him, letting out a sigh. “I really don’t wanna eat this” you smirked, watching him as he rubbed his forehead. “It was only for a bit!” You looked at him confused. “Just say who it is” he bit back his lip. “Y/n” the crowd yelled in awe, making you shake your head. He quickly noticed how your face held back a smile, his heart bouncing around in his chest.

“Okay, Y/n! Now it’s your turn!” “Hey! You can’t just say that and move on. For how long..?” You teased him, his eyes rolling. “Like a week, get over yourself” You pouted your lips jokingly, but on the inside, you were going crazy. He really liked you? Even if it was only for a week it meant he saw something about you. Maybe the stares he gave you weren’t just a figment of your imagination. Maybe you weren’t delusional…

“Y/n…I’m gonna have you eat the water scorpion!” You just sighed, hoping that the question wasn’t too personal. “Can you give us a sneak peek at one of your tracks?” You shot a glance at your manager, her smile telling you it was fine. “Yea! Okay!” You pulled out your phone. “Seriously?” “Mhm”

You scrolled through some of your voice memos, finding one of your upcoming singles. “Ready?” You held your phone to the mic on your dress, watching as everyone listened in awe. “Okay! That’s all!” You played about 5 seconds of it, everyone left wanting more. Jack didn’t say anything, instead, he clapped along with the audience. “Thank you guys…more coming soon? Maybe?” You smiled, Jack giving you a high five.

“For our last round…Jack I’m gonna give you the Salmon smoothie!” You picked up a card, reading the last question. “Jack! You’ve become a staple celebrity crush. Do you secretly watch fan edits of yourself?” You smirked, knowing the answer. “You already know!” He pointed, shaking his head. “Yes, I do” he sighed, the audience laughing. “I was literally backstage at some event and he was watching edits of himself” You shook your head. “Hey! Hey now, don’t expose me”

“Alright! Y/n, the bull penis is all yours” You shook your head, the crowd excited with laughs. “For your last question! Out of all your best friends…Who is your favorite?” The question wasn’t that bad, nodding as you pushed the plate away from you. “My favorite friend is you, Jack” “Yes!” He brought down his fist, your face with a big smile. The crowd cheered, your voice being drowned out. “That was spill your guts or fill your guts! We’ll be right back with more Late Late Show!!

You bumped Jack’s shoulder as you walked out, waving to the crowd. “You had a crush on me?” You couldn’t help but ask, your face filling with heat. “Yea, is it really that hard to believe?” You shrugged, walking into the green room behind him. “I am honored to be your favorite best friend!” He lied, he wanted you to see him as more than that. Sure, he was happy that you loved to spend time with him. But he wished it would go to the next level.

You plopped down on the couch, chugging down a water bottle to get the taste of raw meat out of your mouth. “I can’t believe you made me eat that” you made a face, shaking your head. “You could’ve just answered the question!” He was kinda glad you didn’t, it probably would’ve hurt when you said a name that wasn’t his.

“Why do you wanna know so bad?” You smiled, your heart beating a bit faster than usual. “I’m just curious” he sat next to you, faces dangerously close to one another. “Okay, I’ll tell you” “yea?” “Mhm” you shook your head, Jack staring at you with admiration. His eyes were big and doughy, making you choke on your words. “Well, I…uhm” he watched as your confidence drained, now filled with anxiety.

“You don’t have to tell-“ “It’s about you! I’m sorry, oh my god” you squirmed, Jack's eyes widening. You paused as you realized what you had just admitted. Before he could say anything you got up to leave, Jack taking you by your wrist. “Seriously?” You nodded with a gulp. “Why were you scared to tell me?” You scratched the back of your neck, feeling more than uncomfortable in the situation you had dragged yourself into. “I guess I was just scared you didn’t feel the same way…” his smile was comforting, pulling you closer to sit back down.

“I do” “You do?” He nodded, taking your face into his hands. He noticed as you panicked, your eyes tracing his expression. You couldn’t tell if he was serious. Before you could process anything you felt his lips fall onto yours, eyes widening before you relaxed into him.

Your heart was all giddy inside of you, your hand on his chest as he pulled you closer. It felt like pure euphoria when he kissed you. You didn’t know how to describe it, but it was addictive. You felt like you could truly never get enough of him, pulling him closer with a hungrier and deeper kiss. “Hey! You guys are on in-“ You pulled alway quickly, a producer with an awkward smile on his face. “Y’all are on in 20” you thanked him, looking back at Jack. His face was flushed, your lipstick messy on his face. You tried to rub it off, giggles filling the room.

“Also, I didn’t mean to friend zone you, I’m sorry” You moved the hair out of his face, rubbing his lip as he watched you in awe. “Well, I know that now” he smiled, pulling you in for another messy kiss.

When did you first start learning Spanish? And any basic learning tips? I have a few Spanish speaking coworkers but I get so nervous trying to practice my Spanish with them.... and and, when you were first learning Spanish, did you have any little things you found especially fun/funny?

Oh gosh it's been decades now. To give some backstory and you can do your own math here, this blog started in 2013 when I was still in college getting my degree in Spanish

I started in what I think would be middle school when Spanish became a mandatory class, but I didn't start really studying and understanding things until high school. It wasn't until even after college that I REALLY felt like I understood Spanish because there were so many native speakers and people interacting with me.

One thing that totally changed my perception and how I perceive Spanish was there was a question on the preterite and imperfect, and I'm giving my answer and trying to explain some bits about how a lot of times both are potentially correct but it's how you mean it that matters

And someone mentioned that "imperfect" in its linguistic etymology means "not yet completed"; that "perfect" is "done thoroughly" where the -fect is probably related to hacer "to do"... and "imperfect" thus means "not yet done", and just a huge lightbulb moment

I remember thinking "I WISH one of my teachers had known that or said that to me because it makes so much more sense now"

And I still mess up but usually it's followers like "oh we say THIS here" or "that's not the word we use but it reminds me of this thing in my country"

A few funny things in Spanish based on mistakes that I've made or things that I learned:

You haven't truly begun your Spanish journey until someone tells you that embarazado/a means "pregnant" not "embarrassed" (avergonzado/a).... similarly no one mentions that embarazoso/a means "awkward" or "unwieldy" in a way

querer means "to want", but it can also mean "to love" or cherish; similarly querido/a means "dear", but la querida can also kind of mean "side-piece" like someone's affair partner woman so if you see someone talking about their querida without a name or a noun they might be talking about an affair

el pelo is "hair", el cabello typically means "hair on the top of the head" like a human... and el cabello is NOT el caballo "horse"

the word for "eye-catching" is llamativo/a and NOT miradizo/a which miradizo/a is one of those old words but it kind of means "awestruck" or "makes you stare in wonderment" in a weirdly poetic way

sartén as "frying pan" can be masculine or feminine depending on country

there are too many words for beans

there are three main words for "purple" - la púrpura usually means "red-violet" or Tyrian purple and also the mollusk you get purple from; morado/a is often "dark purple" related to la mora which can be "blackberry" or "mulberry"; lila is "light purple" meaning "lilac".... you can also say violeta that's fine too

people say naranja for "the color orange" more than anaranjado/a but not everyone has the patience to explain that naranja which comes from the fruit doesn't change for gender

same with rosa as "pink", where rosado/a "pink" is also valid and usually what's taught

the word for "jellyfish" in Spanish is la medusa and that makes me happy

similarly, a male "horseman" is often el jinete; a female "horsewoman" or "rider" is sometimes la amazona and that also makes me happy

la macedonia is sometimes "fruit salad", so one assumes that Macedonians were just throwing fruit together in a bowl or something

Except for two big exceptions, most words ending in al- in Spanish are from Arabic origins [the exceptions being anything related to el almuerzo "lunch", and la almendra "almond"]

la manzana can mean "city block" in some places - probably because in a feudal society people lived in "manses" and the biggest house was the "mansion" where the lord lived, and it has nothing to do with apples

la montaña rusa is "roller coaster" literally "Russian mountain" because Russian people used to make little roller coasters by shaping ice mountains and putting tracks on them

la paja rusa does NOT mean "Russian straw", it is extremely NSFW and do not google it on a school server...... in fact don't look up any kind of paja because it's just as NSFW and it means "straw" if you're not talking about sex so otherwise don't worry about it

someone told me that linguistically para is just por+a, so parais literally "for the purpose of" or "for/so that to" and I've never been the same

the word for "ladybug" in Spanish is la mariquita which is "little Mary" because red used to be associated with Virgin Mary and the spots were said to be 7 and represent the joyful/sorrowful mysteries - many languages have a religious connotation to "ladybug"... also English, because the "lady" refers to Mary, like "Our Lady"

The Spanish alphabet used to be different where CH and RR were their own separate letters... it made looking things up weird; I also don't know how I feel about L vs. LL as separate letters because it's a whole other sound but it IS technically two L's

The word for octopus is el pulpo... the word for "pulp" is la pulpa; don't be like me and mix up asking for orange juice with no octopus

I cannot stress this enough but el pollo is "chicken" or "poultry"; la polla is a NSFW word meaning "cock" and as soon as you say you want cock for dinner you will die some on the inside

I don't know what the deal is with ahorita or what it means without hearing the tone of voice and neither does anyone else, it could be anything

caber is the worst verb, but ir/andar are also up there

every so often luego/pues means "thus" or "therefore" and it's going to throw you off

every so often el hacha (technically feminine) means candle or torch, and in any other situation it means "hatchet" so imagine my confusion when I read about people carrying axes around to see

all my life everyone told me never to use gustar without an indirect object and a friend from Puerto Rico says gusta to mean "cool" all the time and it made me question everything

She is 19 years old but also 4.5 billion years old and also 6 months old. She has escaped from barbie jail on Pluto (long story) and has amnesia. She loves all dogs, but especially loves Noodle who has six legs and is king of dogs in secret. She likes eating sand, marker lids and luscious green vegetation and she does NOT like scrambled eggs because she has sensory issues and they are gross. She is not allowed to eat sand, marker lids or luscious green vegetation and she HAS to finish her scrambled eggs because she needs the protein. She cannot read but she is fluent in every single language that exists including body language. She is part of a gang with her friends from school. Her friends are called Hot Sauce, Born in the Morning, beautiful Ruby, honesty and Kevin. She thinks flowers are sexy and likes having agony aunt columns read to her. She’s only had two tantrums in her life and she can’t even remember them so you can’t hold that against her. Just about everyone who meets her wants to adopt her, and she was adopted by three people in two bodies but we can adopt her too because she has plenty of love to go round and honestly she kinda needs the supervision.
