In my head, you’re a Magnus Archives blog. I mean, I know you obviously listen to other things, but In my mind it’s things like Welcome to Nightvale, Malevolent, Hello from the Hallowoods, The Sheridan Tapes, things like that, horror and supernatural.

So I had to do a double-take when I saw a Dungeons and Daddies post from you, I really didn’t know you listened to it. Then I see you reblog a Fawx and Stallion post, and now I’m just wondering how many podcasts you’ve listened to that I’ve also listened to.

Hahaha yes this blog has been mainly for tma stuff for years now, I still feel like I'm new to the fandom but honestly I've been here through a lot of it since the beginning of season 5

Buuuuut in the past few months I've stopped going into the tma tag regularly and been feeling a little detached from it, at least as opposed to before. My listen to tmagp has been way less interactive and I hardly reblog content anymore (which is something I like doing but because of various bad experiences on the internet recently I have yet to recover from I feel safer posting my own original posts rather than reblogging)

And that freed up a space in my mind to realize I've actually been listening to a lot of podcasts besides tma and it's honestly a shame not to talk about them more with others

I do listen to a lot of horror fantasy supernatural and science fiction podcasts! I also love a lot of dnd and ttrpg podcasts, I also love everything dropout and wish I could get into critical role but it's so big I don't think I'll manage it

tag game!

@soulproof tagged me to shuffle my spotify and list the first 10 songs that come up! i find this game interesting every time it goes around bc it's such a clear holdover from the itunes library and the days when it was less complicated to try and put all your music on shuffle. i'll just do my on repeat i think

1. denny's - SUGR? | i like this song but i think the story is a little confusing, def not in my top 5 from this artist. great hbd tune. it's here bc it's my alarm lol

2. real love baby - father john misty | im in love! im alive! i belong to the stars and sky! yeah we know this one, it's great to sing when doing chores etc

3. the frost - mitski | this album rules and ofc i am most attracted to the songs abt loss. yesterday i saw frost on the ground etc. good fall tune!

4. paper bag - fiona apple | i mean. it's fiona apple. her lyrics are just fantastic. my fall playlists are both kinda sad/pessimistic, isn't it great when an artist makes pessimism fun and flirty?

5. everybody wants to love you - japanese breakfast | another tune ive been enjoying when doing chores. plus i got to see this band live recently and they've been on all my playlists since.

6. comes and goes - HYUKOH | good song abt change and the inevitability of loss that is, again, fun and flirty. if u dont know hyukoh check em out, they have a bunch of bite sized EPs

7. i belong in your arms - chairlift | not my favorite chairlift song but wailing i belong in your arms has gotten me thru some of these housesitting jobs recently

8. bros - wolf alice | similarly, not my fav wolf alice song but also i love songs abt bestfriends and i am a sucker for songs abt deep intense friendship.

9. little death - the beths | GREAT crush song i love the beths. they have a lot of great songs abt desire specifically. also i got to see them live at the postal service / death cab concert so im listening to them more

10. slip away - perfume genius | did this enter everyone's consciousness mysteriously or do yall remember how u found it? fun song tho

star sign: aries sun, capricorn moon, virgo rising. being chill and normal was never an option.

favorite holiday: probably Halloween 💀 as someone who loves horror and is a recovering theatre kid, it's perfect. plus, i'm gay.

last meal: three twizzlers & a litre of ginger kombucha

current favorite musician: i've been listening to a lot of Wolf Alice and SASAMI recently.

last song listened to: 'No Girl So Sweet' (PJ Harvey)

(a tangent... but if any of my mutuals want to stalk each other on Spotify pls lmk...)

last movie watched: Talk to Me (2023) dir. Danny & Michael Philippou. i watched it on my flight and it was honestly a lot better than i anticipated. even though gore isn't typically my favourite, i was pleasantly surprised by how they managed to integrate it into a possession film. loved the grief-driven storylines, and the characters charmed me. rating: ☆☆☆☆

last tv show watched: Betty (HBO) !!! i have debilitating crushes on everyone from Skate Kitchen.

last book finished: Empire of Wild by Cherie Dimaline. it was assigned in one of my first year uni courses and i sped through it without really taking the time to read it properly. now that i have it's been rotting my brain non-stop. her use of simile is insane.

i also recently finished An Anthropologist on Mars by Oliver Sacks. one of my all-time favourite authors and academics, would highly recommend this as a foray into 'medical' non-fiction.

last book abandoned: i don't think i've ever abandoned a book in my life, but i recently had to choke down this technical document about building codes that i can't be bothered to remember the title of.

edit: just remembered the absolute chore that was reading Outlawed by Anna North. i feel cheated and lied to by the cover because i love the cover, but the book is honestly unbelievably boring. i’m tired of the evangelical horse girl narrators, i had enough of those where i grew up. i did finish this because i hate quitting, but it tested my patience and made me feel like pulling my hair out.

currently reading: Milk Fed by Melissa Broder (for like the third time). this book is sooo weird and kind of gross, in the best way. it's definitely not going to appease everyone but i have a sick fascination with it and keep coming back. i've also been having a love affair with the cover design for a while now.

last thing researched for writing/art/hyperfixation: common apartment floorplans in Italy (if anyone has this info, hmu). i'm also in an internet sinkhole of background on the 2024 F2 grid and their respective karting histories.

favorite online fandom memory: when i was 15 i had public beef with a bunch of conservatives in a politician's comment section over pipelines and green policy and then said politician blocked me on every platform. this wouldn't be fandom related if not for the fact that i used my fan account to do all of this, so [redacted] had to search my cringe username multiple times... like omg are you a fan?

favorite old fandom you wish would drag you back in/have a resurgence: the euphoria that i felt being a part of the haikyuu fandom during quarantine will never be replicated, but i think about it every day.

favorite thing you enjoy that never had an active or big fandom, but you wish it did: i'm really into the original, morbid Grimm fairytales and wish that someone would produce a proper remake of Cinderella already. let the doves pick out the step sisters' eyes, cowards.

tempting project you don't have time for: this is a trick question because i always give into temptation regardless of whether i have time for it or not. i really want to do a series of deep-dive posts about track design and the 'architects' of f1... i've been fixated on it for a while now and haven't seen a lot of discussion about it, plus it seems like it would be fun to put all the research together :)

I had a thought about the USO girls being protective of Steve and then I wrote this little thing. Enjoy!

...

“Goddam straps came loose during the song.”

The girls pool into the dressing room, laughing and chattering. Betty fiddles with the collar around her neck until it’s open where it connects in the back. She sighs in relief as she frees her breasts and pulls the pins out of her hair to get the ridiculous hat off, shaking out her red curls. The other girls start to undress as well, all eager to get out of their costumes and into their (slightly) more comfortable clothes.

“Ya almost flashed the whole audience”, giggles Miriam, a pretty blonde who joined the group very recently.

“Please, imagine how many bonds would sell with these bombs” Betty says cheeky and shimmies her boobs to a song only she could hear. That earns her a few wolf whistles and howling laughter.

“Would have given the old bloke in the first row a heart attack” Ruth cackles. Betty knows exactly who she meant and giggles too. The guy’s eyes almost fell out just from seeing that much leg.

“Forget the grandpa, Rogers would’ve gone up in flames right then and there on the stage.” Martha throws in, strapping a small watch around her wrist. “He always acts like he’s not seen us change a hundred times.”

“Nah, he’s just one of them catholics, they feel guilty about everythin’.”

“Ain’t that true!” yells a voice from the back of the room that Betty recognizes as Irene’s. When she isn't on stage she wears a simple silver cross around her neck. “I still hear the fucking nuns in my head when I start to enjoy myself.”

“Where is he anyways?” Miriam asks, looking around a bit.

Ruth sighs. “Probably being paraded around like a showpony again, poor fella.”

“Can’t really blame them when he looks like the American dream with a cherry on top”, Martha says as she checks her makeup and hair in one of the many mirrors along the walls.

“And he’s such a gentleman too”, Miriam adds with a sigh. “You think he already has a dame?” Betty snickers internally. Oh, poor sweet girl.

“Rogers? Nah, he looks like a brick shithouse but he’s real delicate on the inside, if ya know what I mean”, Betty says conspiratorially and winks for good measure. She had already peeled herself out of the costume and currently buttons up her blouse.

“Well yeah, he’s a big softy, I noticed. He still could have a girl. I bet he’s a real romantic.”

Betty stops fiddling with the buttons. And she hesitates. Ruth silently meets her eyes. She could feel Martha looking too, as well as a few other girls who had been listening to the conversation. Miriam doesn’t seem to notice the sudden stillness, just rolling up her stockings and securing them on her garters.

Well, Betty thought. Better to get it out now than Miriam finding out about it under different circumstances. Her eyes briefly wander over to where Alice is zipping up her dress. Sweet, quiet Alice, who writes letters to her ‘roommate’ almost daily and always seals them with a kiss when she thinks no one is watching her.

“No, I mean… He’s… He’s a man’s man, y’know?” Her voice is a lot quieter now than it was before and heavy with implication. Most of the girls already knew, but you can never know who might be walking by. They all like him. They all like Steve. They helped him get over his stage fright and he is a goddam cheat at every card game they’ve played so far. They all like him a lot.

Miriam's eyes widen when she understands. Her mouth opens and closes a few times, like a fish on land.

“You mean… he’s one of them homos?” The last part came out in a whisper, the news clearly shocking to her.

Betty squares up her shoulders to appear taller than she is. Her expression turns cold.

“Now you listen here Miriam, I’m sain’ this once ‘cause you’re young and new to the showbiz, but these people are everywhere and you’re a stage dancer, so you’ll meet a lot. And let me tell you Miriam, these are fine people who live their lives just as you do. They too just want a roof over their head, food on their table and this damn war to end. Who cares who they’re foolin’ around with.”

“But he’s-”

“Been nothing but nice to you, has he not? Was he not such a gentleman? So you’re gonna learn to accept him and those people and if you can’t, it’s you who’ll have to leave, got it?” Somewhere during her speech she had crossed her arms over her chest, giving Miriam a hard look.

Miriam looks at her with huge eyes and then nods.

Betty lets her frown melt away and gives Miriam a tiny smile and a nod back. Beside her she hears someone let out a long breath. It was Ruth.

“Well damn Betty, heart of gold and tongue of steel.”

Betty gives Ruth her biggest grin. “And bombs for tits, don’t you forget it.” She shimmies again and that breaks the serious and heavy air around them as they all laugh at her.

Martha leans in closer, a secret smile on her lips and a mischievous glint in her eye. “But do you think he has a fella?”

“Who knows?” She shrugs, but couldn’t hide the smirk. “If he doesn’t I’m sure it’s no trouble finding one. I for sure wouldn’t have trouble if I had an ass like that.”

Screaming laughter erupts so loud that Betty is sure you could hear it in the audience.

Summary: After Theodore finds himself on the receiving end of a good dressing-down, he needs someone to talk to. Luckliy for him, his oldest brother is always there to lend a listening ear.

TW: Mention of stillbirth, a little sad so maybe grab tissues if you tend to need them…

December 20th, 1916

It was winter break and the Sharp children typically spent this time at home with their parents. This year, though, for the second Christmas in a row, they were one family member short, Magdala having made her way across the Atlantic to pursue her research.

Both parents had hoped that by now that the war raging on the continent would have died down, making international travel easier. Securing Magdala's visa for the United States of America had been quite the task, and while Aesop maintained a good relationship with the British ambassador to MACUSA, her visa only allowed her to enter the country one time. She couldn’t simply come and go as she pleased as she would during peacetime. Magdala wouldn't be joining her family until the war ended, unfortunately.

It seemed though that she was making the best out of the current situation, judging by the letters she sent back home. She had spent the bulk of her time tracking down and studying the Wampus Cat, native to the Appalachian Mountains. She appeared to have a healthy social life as well, having even, much to Aesop's chagrin and her mother's delight, fallen in love. A man from New York had caught her eye. He was currently apprenticing under Shikoba Wolfe, hoping to master the art of wandmaking himself. Their relationship was still in its early stages, but Maggie had mentioned on a few occasions how she was looking forward to introducing him to everyone once travel was possible.

"So much for wanting to wait a little bit before setting down"

"Aesop, relax it's not like she's engaged to the lad"

"She had better not get engaged before I get the chance to-"

"To what, Ace? Poison him?"

"I was going to say interrogate him, but poisoning him is a nice alternative"

"Darling this is Maggie we're talking about. She's got a good head on her shoulders. She wouldn't be talking about introductions if he wasn't the same. He's apprenticing to be a wandmaker. That's impressive! And quite a lucrative business, too once he gets started on his own."

"What are you saying"

"I'm saying we could do worse for a future son-in-law"

"As long as he keeps his 'wand' away from my daught-"

"Oh my aren't you the hypocrite Aesop Sharp!"

Eleazar had reached the home stretch of his studies at Hogwarts. He had taken on a respectable amount of NEWT classes, in addition to serving as Head Boy, and de-facto assistant to Hogwarts' potions master in the (quite limited) amount of free time he had. He himself was a few months into his first relationship, a lovely girl from his own house named Alice. He had developed a crush on her while in his sixth year and had only recently gathered the courage to ask her out after having helped her obtain certain potions ingredients she was missing for class over the fall.

Natalie was far too focused on her studies to even consider engaging in a romantic relationship, and already had such a hard time with letting her guard down that it would likely take quite some time for her to allow herself to trust someone enough before she gave them her heart. She didn't yet know what she wanted to do in life, so she knew she'd have to do well in her OWL's next year in order to keep all doors open for herself. She did have a small group of trusted friends, though, and her parents were quite happy to see her finally break out of her shell.

Then, there was Theodore. He didn't struggle in school per se, his grades were always among the very top of his class, but he had certainly spent a lot of time in detention over the past few months, which had earned him a good dressing down from his father earlier that day. In his parents’ eyes, he really seemed to show complete disregard for the school’s rules, and the boy had just been reminded that there was a reason in which they were in place, that he still needed to respect them even if he didn’t understand or agree with them, and even after he graduated and went out into the world, he couldn’t just recklessly do what he wanted.

Theodore knew his father had spoken to him from a place of deep love. He knew that of his four living children, he was the one that worried him the most, not just because of his preferred career path, but because he saw a lot of himself in his youngest son. He was desperate in wanting to make sure Theodore didn’t end up like he once was, and today his desperation had reached a boiling point.

Knowing where his words came from didn’t make them sting any less, though, and so once he had been dismissed by the former professor, Theodore donned his coat and scarf and ventured outside to the garden. It was a mild winter day and snow fell gently in large flakes, covering the ground in a soft white blanket. Theodore wiped the snow off the stone bench in the garden and took a seat, facing away from the house, the tears that had started to form in his eyes threatening to fall. He spoke to his older brother.

"I bet you heard all of that, didn't you… It's always rough, you know, being on the receiving end..."

Silence. Theodore took a shaky breath.

“I just… I know he’s right. I know I need to do better, to get in trouble less. I know it’s going to catch up with me eventually, like it did him all those years ago. I know he doesn’t want me to make the same mistakes he made… it’s just…” A gentle breeze blew and Theodore sighed

“I’m not… brilliant like Maggs. She just… picks up on everything real quick you know? Hardly makes any mistakes, makes everything look so easy! And she's been halfway around the world for over a year now doing her own thing and on the one hand I'm happy for her but on the other hand...I don't know when we'll get to see her again... And I didn’t inherit the potions gene like Eleazar did. He's pretty much set for life! Graduating from Hogwarts later this year and he's already got his career all sorted out. Heck, he had his apprenticeship all but secured before he even started school, it was always a question of "if he was interested" in joining the family business rather than "if he could earn it". Not that he doesn't deserve to apprentice under Dad, he'll probably end up at his skill level in a couple years at the rate he's going. Don't uhhh… don't tell Dad I said that."

Theodore blinked and looked ahead, continuing to bare his heart.

"And Natty… Did I tell you that she almost decapitated Professor Ronen the first time he had us play Summoner’s court? It was pretty brilliant, actually. She has to work to TONE DOWN her magic! The rest of us are just trying to keep up with her half the time. And she's got friends now, which is awesome but I keep worrying that she won't want to hang out with me anymore. Which is ridiculous really, I mean… I have friends and I still want to hang out with her, she's my twin!"

Snowflakes continued to fall and Theodore could hear faint music coming from the house behind him.

"Meanwhile, everyone tells me I’m so smart and talented and have such a bright future ahead of me but I just feel like… like I have to work twice as hard just to measure up to the rest of them and even then I fall short... So yeah, I sneak out after curfew and see what I can get away with. I see what I can do to help people while I’m at it. And you know what? I sometimes feel like it… like it actually helps me do better in school you know, like I’m finding some actual practical ways to use the stuff that I’m learning. Dad’s right though. It needs to stop. I need to do better from now on. I think… I think I can do it. I think I can keep myself in check, and start staying out of trouble.”

Theodore closed his eyes and took a deep breath. The smell of freshly baked cookies filled the air, he could hear the music, still. He could feel the snow landing on his hair and face as well as a single tear making its way out of his eye and onto his cheek. He didn’t hear his father open the door and walk towards him.

“Thanks, Clarence. You’re a really great listener. I know it’s strange to say I miss you, seeing as I never met you, but I… I really wish you were here. Say hi to Granddad for me. Tell him I'll try my best to do good by him. Tell him people are going to be proud of Theodore Sharp from now on, instead of hearing the name and instantly thinking 'what did he do to land himself in detention now?’”

Aesop sat next to his son and placed an arm around him, pulling him close. He looked at the stone in front of him. It didn’t mark the actual resting place of his own father as well as his stillborn son, but it was a place he, and the rest of his family, came to reflect and remember, whenever they needed it.

“How much did you hear?”

“Just your last sentence.” He kissed his son’s forehead as he felt his shoulder dampen slightly. Aesop glanced at the sky, snow falling in his face “He heard everything, though.”

Both sat in silence for a while, Aesop holding his son close, drawing circles with his thumb on his shoulder and gently humming so as to give Theodore some privacy as he sobbed. To anyone else who might have been looking on at the scene, it simply looked like a father comforting his son. However, everyone who shared their last name knew that there were three Sharps in the garden at that moment.

“Are those gingerbreads I smell?”

“Yes. They’re pretty good, too”

“They always are.”

Theodore stood up but Aesop stayed seated. “I’m already proud of you. I need you to know that.”

“Thanks, Dad. Thanks for always looking out for us”

Theo took a step towards the house but his father remained on the bench. “Aren’t you coming inside, too?”

“I’ll join you all in a couple minutes”

Theodore walked back towards his father and gave him a hug “Granddad would be proud of you, too. Just so you know”

“Thank you, son”

“I promise we won’t eat all the gingerbreads while you’re out”

Aeop chuckled “You better not”

Theodore gave his father one last squeeze before walking back towards the house, feeling lighter than he had when he had walked out. Some of his friends thought it was strange how he made a point to talk to his brother who had never taken his first breath, or remember the man he had never met but with whom he shared a name, but Theodore knew better. He had heard it often, from both his parents. Four words of wisdom that helped him through some of his most tumultuous days.

I’m enjoying the new National album that came out most recently but apart from that I’m mainly listening to my old faves over and over like catb, Sam, Wolf Alice, Strokes, Kooks etc. Other new albums I’ve loved this year have been Inhaler Cuts & Bruises and Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds Council Skies. Not new but I’ve had Skinty Fia by Fontaines DC on a lot recently and the song I’ve had a repeat this week is Midnight Love by Girl in Red ❤️

01. favorite time of the year?

The transition period between seasons, especially fall. The weather is warm and cold, everything just feels so much cozier and the clothes are ways so comfortable.

02. comfort food?

Anything with rice.

03. do you collect anything?

I went through a sticky note phase for a while, and I do have a nice intimates collection lol (as in lingerie, bras, undies etc) but that was an expensive habit lol ...as of now I’m not really collecting much! I’ve become way more minimal since the pandemic

04. favorite drink?

Matcha lattes, taro boba and gin cocktails.

05. current favorite songs?

I don’t really have a current favorite at the moment but I have been listening to “Blush” by Wolf Alice a lot recently.

This is such a tough question but I’m going to pick one of my favorites which is “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac

8. Do you listen to music while you write? If so, share a song that’s been inspiring you lately.

i used to more than i do now!! lately i find it a little too distracting to write to anything with lyrics and i usually put on classical music or movie scores for background noise. but in my early drarry writing days i listened to a LOT of wolf alice bc their stuff has super angsty drarry vibes. i think i'm going to name my current wip after their song visions of a life, so it has definitely inspired a lot in that fic!

11. If you could only write angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your life, which would it be?

oh angst hands down. it is my bread and butter. i would definitely miss the smut, but fluff is honestly really challenging for me to write so i think i would survive without it 🥲

17. What fic are you most proud of?

it's like picking a favorite child!! or, in a metaphor that is more relevant to me, like picking a favorite flavor of ice cream 😭 with hands full of dusk is probably the fic im most proud of that i posted semi-recently, just because i was trying out some new stuff and i think i learned a lot while doing it which is also why it means so much to know you enjoyed it!!

When I’m saying favorite for any of these questions, it can change day to day or even mood to mood, so I’ll just pick two or three that come to mind for most. 😅

1. What is your favorite album?

I will admit that with streaming, I don’t typically listen to most albums in full beyond maybe 3-5 times.

But since I saw them in concert recently, I’ll say, I’ve been listening to The Head on the Door by The Cure.

But the real forever answer is Shrek 2: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

2. What is your favorite artist?

It may currently be Angel Olsen and Sharon Van Etten.

8. What is your favorite concept album?

Look, I know it’s a big one, but it’s gotta be Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie.

Ooh, while I listen to many songs that aren’t in English (especially French and Croatian), I feel like I can almost count the number of full albums on my fingers (that aren’t associated with movie soundtracks).

I admittedly make a lot of playlists for things that I’m writing but mostly play instrumental music while I write because it can be hard to tune it out, and I don’t want to be distracted.

Secrets, you say?? Hmm, I can share some secrets 👀

What inspires you to go and write out a fic?

When a piece of media consumes me (in the way Beyond Evil has), my mind becomes inundated with possibilities. I'm naturally an overthinker in all areas of my life, and that extends to things I am passionate about. I feel this visceral need to explore the text provided, but also, the subtext. So, the media itself is a massive inspo. I am not the kind of person that can just write whenever I want. For me, writing is an arduous and tiring endeavour that takes me a long time to get through. I cannot write unless I have the bug for it- which makes finishing projects very... interesting. (I'm terrible at finishing books, I'm terrible at finishing fics... it's a problem) I do not tend to plan fics in advance. There are only 3 that I can say were minorly "planned" (Indoctrination, By Desire, and one that isn't written/published yet). But that's because they're all interconnected. Most of the time, the words just present themselves and I have to type them down otherwise I'll forget them forever.

I'll give an example of a few recent inspirations:

Blessed Hands was inspired by some real-life sad shit that I guess my mind needed to process

Your Love's Whore was written because a few weeks ago, there was a scorchingly hot day and I wanted to imagine what a jwds hot girl summer might look like

An unwritten fic I thought of last night was inspired by a scene from One Spring Night (I have an outline and gave it the creative title of "hallway". But I have no intention of actually writing it thus far)

Indoctrination was directly inspired by a cafedecanela post that I can't find nor have the time rn to find (but I will look later and link it)

Another huge inspiration/aid is music!!! I'm like everyone else and absolutely live for music. So, I use it to help direct what I want from a story (the emotions, atmosphere, the "vibe"). A few examples are:

Indoctrination was written whilst I listened to sappy, sad Korean rock on repeat for about 3 weeks straight

Your Love's Whore was heavily inspired by five songs in particular: . Posing in Bondage - Japanese Breakfast . Bedroom Hymns - Florence and the Machine . New Ways - Daughter . Your Clothes - Can't Swim . Your Love's Whore - Wolf Alice . and I listened to the album Brasilian Skies - Masayoshi Takanaka on repeat whilst actually writing as I struggled to write if I can hear English words, my brain gets distracted (I hope that makes sense)

I have a whole long-ass jwds playlist on Spotify (which I made as soon as I finished watching the show back in Feb). I love it so very much because there are some absolute bangers in there that are 100% jwds.

And I'm going to keep adding to it until I grow tired.

And how do you build the structure, think of the environment, and research?

Ooookay, now I'm actually going to have to give this a think. The wonderful thing about fanfiction is that a lot of the worldbuilding and aesthetic has been done for you. (Thank you to the cast and crew of Beyond Evil). So, it's quite easy to impose your own impression onto a piece and explore what's already been established. For the fics I have released, I did do research in the sense that I didn't start my fics first. By that, I mean, when I finished watching BE for the first time, I started writing an essay (which required a lot of research, rewatching the show, dissecting scenes, researching film theory, using my useless art degree lol) exploring the show's queer coding. I wrote about 15K words (mostly were just ramblings) until I realised that I needed to explore these characters in a more artistic way. This really stems from the fact that I feel so connected to Joo Won; he and I share a few unhealthy coping mechanisms... (it's the yikes times). I've always liked Joo Won; I didn't have to adjust to him, I always saw his pov and understood where he was going from. I just felt like I got him (which doesn't mean to say, I didn't also openly laugh at him), so I think I wanted to write to work through some identity stuff I have going on. I've trying to learn Hangul in my spare time, I love Korean cuisines so I've been naturally researching that in my personal life, I also love me some snooping- so I use google maps a lot to just look at South Korea (and anywhere in the world really) and gain an impression of what different areas are like. I look up historical events, I research pop culture, etc... and I basically just try to dive in and ingest as much information as I can to make the characters and their world feel as real as possible. When it comes to writing Joo Won, I also use my own experiences (as an English person) to influence his use of language and mindset. When I first wrote Indoctrination, my partner read some of it and told me to change some of my language choices because I used English slang that isn't very universal. I listened to some of the suggestions but not all because Joo Won would totally call people a "pasty dipshit wanker"; or use words like "chuffed", "gutted", "plastered", "dodgy" (and so on) and use the c-word like it's going out of style (as does almost every English person his age).

In terms of structure, I don't write chronologically. I just write whatever comes to mind and then piece it together and edit like crazy. However, I DO LOVE MAKING NOTES AND WRITING OVERLY DETAILED OUTLINES. So... I guess it depends on the story. My three surprise/procrastination fics that I didn't plan at all (Drone Bomb Me, take my name, and your blessed hands) are some of my favourites. (I wrote DBM in a day- which I don't think I have ever done before lol) We can contrast that against a fic I can't even begin to write because the words refuse to come to me, is living as an 8,000+ word outline.

So..... There's not a lot of method to my madness, just spiteful determination.

Yeah... I'm not sure what else to say. It's all just luck and stress to be honest with you. I haven't written fanfiction in years(!!!). Previously, I was writing an original piece that is currently taking a nap.

I think I have mentioned this to you previously but I'm so very grateful for your kind support and words of encouragement. They mean so, so much to me. I am just a wee insecure baby that is the poster child of dyslexia. I know very little about the proper use (grammar, etc) of my mother tongue because of an unconventional schooling experience, soooo to have you say such lovely things about my work, is just *chef's kiss and tears* perfection. Thank you thank you thank you thank you I hope this answers your questions. I'm not sure I have haha!!
