Okay so I am now caught up with the new Black Butler chapters

NOW ONTO THE THOUGHTS WITH SPOILERS UNDERCUT!

...Okay so me and @cartyrs recently have a talk of the vibe of the manga rn (see here and here for the actual talk) in which we both kind of agree the whole Undertaker setting up a orphanage that sacrifices children for blood donations for Doll (in which I ask WHY KILL THE CHILDREN AND NOT DO WHAT ANA DID AND GET THE DONATIONS VIA MEDICAL SHIT-) while building the kids up to be like OCiel, Sebastian, the other servants, and maybe Doll is a bit weird and doesn't fully make sense, but seeing the final face shown panel of Artie is straight Sebastian!

. . . Artie-

He's uhhhhhh....he's kind of freaking me out-

I red this again to figure out what it could be cause it's not just a Sebastian vibe anymore, it's something else, and with a next page that struck me with a thought-

Why does he look kind of like Peter to me?? I know I can't base it purely cause he's a youthful blonde Victorian child, but even his dialog is weirdly Petercore just while Peter was "kids are brats" Artie's more "adults are mean", now obviously I'll be nuts to try and dare theorize he's actually a BD of Peter cause 1) he would have a scar where he was shot unless like Wendy the bullet was to the side and not back to front as I assume based off his corpse-

and 2) Doll would've recognize him for certain or at least be weird around him supposed deja-vu

... No-

Now I won't be first to mention how Finny thinking of when OCiel matched with how he's feeling right now, but the fact that Theo, this orphanage's literal Ciel, telling him to run has to be SO conflicting for our baby...

Well, I mean it'll be sad but at least 208 wouldn't be worst-

FIRST OFF, I was spoiled of some scenes already, thank my friend for that!

Second, when this picture showed up, my brain decided to ruin me more by playing this-

WHICH DOESN'T FUCKING HELP-

Anyway, back to the review of 208, a weird feeling in my chest of tears, happiness, anxiety, and theorizing-

The parrels Snake even points out of Doll and OCiel when it shows the parrels of Doll and Finny crying over the idea of losing Snake-

The hand reaching out to him by people who saved him-

Ooooooh, okay, I was about to whip out my knowledge of animal DNA vs Human DNA and how at sad as it sounds we can't have werewolf babies and question everything-

I mean Dagger's not wrong, I mean he literally named Sebastian based off what he wears and OCiel just off how adorable his smile is, unless someone else named him and he took credit

Also on that thought how he named Doll makes it so much cuter/sadder since he described aka in his eyes she's really is as precious

Also I can't tell is Dagger is saving other abused kids from this circus/freak show, is packing up the ones who tagged along, or if Snake unknowingly witnessed one of their kidnappings-

YOU CAN'T SPRING THAT SHIT UP ON ME YANA-

Kind of interesting they don't have beef, which according to some weird test is the most favorable meat out of the ones out there. Like I get they don't have cattle since they roam and I assumed beef is expensive back in the day, but a part of me kind of hopes it's like a Soma situation back in Weston where they don't have beef due to someone's religion, though then there's pork-

My boy didn't speak much at all throughout the arc so this is excited as shit!

Okay this is by far my new favorite picture of all of them together! Doll chilling in her dress- A honestly super cute wholesome pic of Beats- Peter giving off that trustworthy older bro vibes- Wendy giving off that one cool Aunt who lets you eat ice cream before breakfast and lets you sip her wine if you behave enough and takes you to Disneyland a weekend just to see you excited and scared on roads vibes-

Though now I have a few questions of this scene seems to show everyone knew Doll and her habit of dressing up to chill with others in comfy clothes (which in same bitch) and which i wonder: Did no one fucking care she was in the bath and trying to strip OCiel back then?? Dagger and Jumbo were in there, I get why they would be chill with their baby sister in there but why didn't they step in-

Ch207 (p3), You've known me long enough

We get a vague understanding of what life was possibly like for Artie before coming to F. O. L. Orphanage...

...and we learn that Artie and Theo already knew each other before then, too.

But what does Artie mean by telling Theo to not "get scared now" after knowing Artie so long? Afraid of holding a gun... or afraid of Artie? Makes me wonder what Artie did before they both ended up in that orphanage!

Before Artie can elaborate (though he probably wasn't going to right then anyway), he and Theo realize more staff are headed their way.

Of course, that fan translation of the above page was very wrong about what Doll says. She doesn't say she will find a way to keep him/make him hers. No one calls anyone "baby". 😮‍💨 This does not, however, rule out the possibility that Doll tries to have Snake turned into a bizarre doll, if he dies. We do have to worry that bizarre doll Snake might turn against Finny and our earl simply because Finny left him to die. Same problem if Snake somehow lives (which I highly doubt); he could feel abandoned and choose Doll. Snake remaining loyal to our earl might not matter, though; Undertaker could turn him into a basic bizarre doll in order to simply show him off to our earl -- and possibly Finny, too -- later, just to make them feel worse about his death.

The fan translation of the next page isn't nearly as bad. The language here is more formal, but the gist of it was right:

I agree with @fwippysays, who said Finny might be thinking back to his master being arrested, then comparing it to now with Snake dying, because these are moments when Finny feels powerless to help those he cares about.

I hope Snake hears Finny's heartfelt apology for leaving him behind. Thankfully, the snakes are there to witness this: that Finny wanted to destroy Doll and take Snake with him. It's just that he felt he had to focus on their mission, otherwise Snake's death would be in vain.

Now what? Kill the approaching staff?

If Snake dies, I hope the snakes paralyze Doll and find the kids outside. Then they could burn the barn down. No bodies, no bizarre dolls.

Ch 197 : Send in the Clones

This is a short chapter. Finny and Snake are led from the outside by Susan, one of the young staff members, who teases/flirts with Snake about his relationship with Doll before introducing them to the Collie class. They made bath salts the day before and today are making pound cake with orange marmalade, instructed by an older woman staff member.

While we’re here, we meet a few more of the children at the orphanage, and more parallels begin to emerge.

We’ve already met Theo, the “Ciel” clone, and Jenny, one of the kids from the outdoorsy Corgi class in chapter 196, so now we get to meet three more, who parallel the other servants: Sebastian, Mey Rin, and Bard.

Oliver (オリバー), Mey Rin’s Doppleganger, Collie Class

It’s possible Oliver is a boy, but it isn’t explained. (Oliver does use 僕, boku, the same first-person pronoun Our Ciel does, and a common one for young boys.) Oliver is also very shy and tends to stutter when they speak, like Mey. Oliver has a strong aptitude for domestic tasks like embroidery, and seems very close/clingy with Daniel, the Bard clone, and always seems to be apologizing.

Artie (アーティ), Sebastian’s Doppleganger, Mastiff Class

Artie is the oldest in his class and impresses Finny and Snake with elegant manners and speech, just like a high-ranking servant like a butler. He keeps some of the other kids in line (like the Bard clone Daniel), and also seems to know more than he initially lets on about “fledgling day” (the day that the kids leave the orphanage, supposedly). He also uses the same pronoun as Sebastian, 私, Watashi.

Daniel (ダニエル), Bard’s Doppleganger, Collie Class

Daniel is definitely a boy (or he sees himself as one, anyway), as he complains about having to dress like a girl and do “woman’s work,” in much the same way that Bard complained to Seb when he first joined the servants. And like then, he’s given a stern talking to about cooking and other domestic tasks not being the sole domain of women. (He even uses the same pronoun, オレ/俺, ore, as Bard.)

I can’t say yet what the significance of these parallels are yet, but they’re definitely one of the most important aspects of this chapter. The other one has to do with a term that’s repeated over and over this arc—

「巣立ちの日」, literally “leaving the nest day,” or what I’m calling “Fledgling Day.”

It’s the day that the eldest in each class “ages out” of the orphanage and presumably goes on to the world to work as a servant in their area of expertise, and is a day of celebration. When Artie first talks about it in this chapter, it’s while lecturing Daniel about needing to be prepared with skills when he leaves the orphanage one day.

However, only a few pages later, Susan, one of the staff, announces that Jenny, the girl we met last chapter who was afraid of horses, is having her “Fledgling Day.”

This is sudden and surprising news that almost everyone seems excited about—except for Artie and Oliver. The latter is so shocked that they forget to tend the marmalade they’re making and it begins to boil and burn—and I wonder if that juxtaposition is intentionally ominous as to why they’re so concerned about this news.

On the last page of the chapter, Artie murmurs about how this can’t be, it’s too sudden, genuinely horrified. Does he know that “failures” are disposed of? It’s giving me even stronger Promised Neverland vibes now…

Another interesting element is that Snake seems oblivious to their different reaction, but not Finny. Could it be because of his own experience as a test subject that he can recognize what it means to have failures “disposed of”?

I wonder if Oliver and Artie may become allies to Finny and Snake, and if we may be horrorfied (ala the bone prosthesis in the circus arc) once we learn more about what Undertaker is doing with all these kids…

what are your headcanons of Artie,Mabel, Oliver and Theodore being adopted by Nina, Meg, and Augusta ?

YES!

OCiel took them to Nina's shop for new clothes after everything was done and Nina, being Nina, was just smitten by them and made way more designs and clothes than planned to the point they had to come back more often to try on or change some clothes

During that time Nina, Meg, and Augusta got close with the four and felt sad whenever they left, the kids felt the same

At one point Oliver went out of his way to bake some sweets for the women as a thank you gift for all the new clothes and Nina teared up a small bit when they left that time

Due to a storm Sebastian and OCiel trusted Nina and her wives to watch them for the night as Sebastian can easily drive in the storm with just one passenger and don't want to risk going back and forth, so Meg and Augusta brought out the spare cot and set it up for them to sleep on for the night They gave them each a glass of warm milk and honey for after some yummy dinner and the boys and girl was all fed and tuckered out and able to sleep soundly

Only after that did the three women made decisions to adopt them and did so during a party event OCiel helped set up and during the night mentioned to the quad they hope to raise them as their own children

There was some tearing ups when they got the documents and announcement but all were shocked when Theo just started sobbing and they all ended that moment with a hug

Now there's four others joining the household there was talk of moving house but didn't want to risk losing business in the shop, even though the four tried to convince Nina they can all sleep in the same room but the topic of puberty shut that down and how they should have their own rooms each

That was when Theo refused to have his own room since that's what he got during the FOL Orphanage so there was really no agreeing for a while

So they built a much bigger tailor shop still in London but closer to a yard with a bigger field connected to it with the Phantomhive's help, that way the kids can run around easily and there was plenty rooms. Mabel got her own room same goes for Oliver as he has his own things while Artie and Theo share a room as brothers

They're that type of family who help out whenever they can for each other, such as either models for works or help around the shop

After much begging they got a horse for Theo while also getting two dogs for the rest, one smaller dog (maybe a Pom or corgi) and one bigger dog that'll bite the arm off a creep if needed

Ch211 (p3), Take us to your master

Artie and Theo get Finny to the surface. Finny isn't sure why they bothered to save him, but Artie has a point: they still need him. Even if it's just instructions on what's next. Or where his master should be waiting for a report. Theo just wants Finny to conserve his energy.

Oliver helps Finny out of the water, which is quite different from how Finny pushed Oliver in. Finny thanks him, and Oliver just goes right in for a hug. For a brief moment, Finny smiles a bit.

But Theo gets right down to business. They don't have their evidence anymore, but they have a lot of information.

There's no reason to report to the police or the Yard anymore. So, Theo wants to go straight to our earl and Sebastian to make the report.

Idk if they are looking at the orphanage for a moment or if they are already walking away, but Finny notices the nearby windpump and recalls arriving there, just recently, with Snake... and it makes him cry.

One good thing about the staff waiting down there is they won't see the kids return but will assume they have drowned. They might keep someone down there (like in shifts) to wait for bodies to surface, but none will. Still, they will probably think the bodies are there and just stuck at the grating or something. No one from the orphanage will be looking for them outside... unless one of them finally discovers the busted grate.

I was hoping they would destroy the windpump and flood the underground facility, but it looks like they are focused on making a report and perhaps returning with reinforcements.

The chapter isn't over just yet. One more part to go.
