💭ǫᴏᴛᴅ: ʜᴏᴡ ᴡᴀs ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴅᴀʏ ᴛᴏᴅᴀʏ?

✨AOTD: My day was pretty good. Thankfully Monday's are short days at the school I work for. I did start feeling really horrible around noonish today so I was very happy to get to come home a few hours later to take some cold meds and a much needed nap. I am hoping I can make it through the week with being sick.

Anywho, I want to thank @booksparks and @just_islemcelroy for the copy of #PeopleCollide #FRC2023 in exchange for an honest review.

I have not read this yet but plan to read it soon. I am one of BookSparks Ambassadors for the #BacktoBooks Fall Reading Challenge and this is one of the books that was on my track.

I am actually really happy with the track I got because there are some amazing books that I will be receiving to share with you all.

People Collide by Isle McElroy is marketed as "a Fight Club for the Millennial generation." Also, in the synopsis it says that People Collide is "a gender-bending, body-switching novel that explores marriage, identity, and sex, and raises profound questions about the nature of true partnership."

In People Collide we follow Eli who is married to Elizabeth and they happen to live in a cramped apartment located in Bulgaria. Well, one day he happens to discover that he no longer inhabits his body, but now inhabits Elizabeth's body and then learns that Elizabeth is in his body. You would think it would be all Freaky Friday stuff but it's not and Eli finds that Elizabeth has disappeared without a trace. This leads to him searching for her all across Europe and the US. As he searches for his wife, he starts to ponder about gender, how their marriage will work if they live in each other's bodies which makes him wonder if it will make or break their marriage.

To me People Collide seems like an interesting exploration of gender and relationships and would be metaphorical. Plus, it sounds interesting with the body switch trope.

Once I get around to reading this book I will update you all as I read/do a review post.

February 2023

Well, I am still in rather a reading slump. Those of you who shared advice after my post about it last month thank you. I first tried re-reading a few favourite books I’m passionate about, audiobook versions included. Then to try and experience that book spark I picked up some newer titles with one of my favourite things. Mushrooms!!!

The second and last volume of the dystopian sci-fi series Little Mushroom Revelations by Shisi is here uncensored after a delay.

I normally don’t read many light novels, but the first volume of The Dragon’s Soulmate is a Mushroom Princess! by Hanami Nishine caught my eye too now that it is available in print.

And last since it has been several months, I figured a check-in on the Poison Ivy series (now ongoing!) was due too.

I hope all of you find those titles that spark the love of reading in you too.

'Til All These Things Be Done is a well-written historical novel about life, love, loss and forgiveness. The story is set in a small rural community in Texas in the early 1900s and the timeline moves between the past and present. I really enjoyed Leola's character! She's strong, independent and determined! The descriptions were amazing! The language, the sounds, the scents, and man the cooking it was so easy to feel like I was right there experiencing it! I finished the book in only a few sittings. It was so easy to get lost in the world Suzanne Moyers created! It's a heartfelt and compelling read! BOOK REVIEW ʍəıʌəɹ ʞooq BOOK REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Magic is extremely rare in the kingdom of Verchiel and those who can wield it are called Incarnates. They are worshiped gods deemed saints of the land. Leading the land, sometimes into ruin. After the sudden deaths of the previous leaders, a struggle for supremacy ensues between the Incarnates. Each has their own reasons for wanting to rule. We follow four new Incarnate. Gabriel, engaging in shady practices to get what he wants than ever feel powerless again. Zoe, has been determined to embark on a new path, since becoming an Incarnate. Niklas is an exiled prince from Bjoral, a land that sees him as a heska, trying to forget his past. And finally Silje, a killer who won’t stop until everyone adores her, wanting the love that she so desperately lacked. An Incarnation of Shadow and Light, gives me A Darker Shade of Magic vibes. I was immediately drawn to the premise and magic system of the book from the start. Each of the Incarnate takes the magic from either the sun or the moon. Zoe and Silje are Daughters of the Sun and Niklas and Gabriel are Sons of the Moon. Sun Incarnate is able to use its magic during the day. Having the ability to heal and have psychokinesis. Moon Incarnate is able to control the Shadows and Illusion, with Niklas having a special ice power. It was just a nice and solid fantasy book with elements that I liked, but I just didn’t love it. It is really hovering in the middle. S.A. Christianson really captures the atmosphere of the story. Allowing you to immerse yourself in the illusions at night, or the rays of the sun during the day. While it has some great points it was a little lack luster for me. I lost my interest mid way through the book, becoming bored with the story, and really wanting more contrast to the wonderful parts of the novel. I highly recommend this to fans of the series I mentioned above, and to anyone who appreciates complex, morally gray characters. ✨I have not started to read For Girls Who Walk Through Fire yet but I am excited to dive right into it after I finish a few books.

✨But let's talk about a few reasons on why I requested this book:

The cover is super pretty and I think Riot did a good job showing off the book

It just seems really interesting and unique.

✨Warning: I am going to talk a little about the synopsis here but giving the trigger warning that it talks about sexual assault so if that is triggering to you then please take care because your mental health matters.

✨Okay, so For Girls Who Walk Through Fire is about Elliot and how every week she needs to go to a support group for teen victims of SA and she hates it because all they do is talk and she just wants justice. She ends up deciding she will get her justice when she hatches up a plan when she finds her late mom's spell book This leads Elliot to recruit a coven of fellow survivors that are from her group. Each girl ends up hexing their assailants but as they do this they end up creating a bond and leaning on each other.

✨I just think this is going to be a powerful book due to it tackling a hard subject that a lot of young women and women go through. Then, on top of that having people who differ from one another come together and create such a bond when they all have gone through an awful thing. I look forward to reading about these characters getting their revenge and to see friendships bloom.
