Kiss Me in Komorebi 🌹 pre-show
An Exclusive Interview with the Bachelor! (part four) including a never-before-seen picture of Daniel Taylor's family!
pictured from left to right, birth order in brackets. Thomas (5), Matthew (7), Alan (3), Sofia, Rachel (2), Jordan (6), and Cheatham (4)
prev. | beg. | next.
more about the family below the cut! 🌸
Dan's family has been incredibly off-the-radar until now. He kept them almost entirely a secret during his earlier career, and only Jordan (a rising Simstagram model) has been exposed to the public eye and featured in his SimToks. He's not supposed to have favorites but his baby siblings, Jordan and Matthew, are definitely his favorites.
Daniel's father, Lt. Daniel Taylor I was an intensely abusive man, rigidly militaristic and a drunk to boot. Dan was the firstborn, and his namesake. Every sibling that was born after him was automatically under his protection, and he values each and every one of them above himself.
If you'd like to read more of Dan's history, you'll find his entire history written here, on his old profile. His history is not public knowledge: I just love writing and was too impatient to reveal it slowly!
Sofia Taylor (nee Perales) || Dan's mother. She can do no wrong in his eyes, and is literally the most important woman on Earth to him. Getting along with and being respectful to her will be very important. She suffered immense abuse at the hands of Dan's father and put up with it for years for the safety and advancement of her children. Dan never blamed her for anything, and the minute he got enough money from his show, he bought her a cottage in the rolling Henford countryside. Dan pays for everything, and she wants for nothing - which is, as he says, how she should live out the rest of her days forever.
Rachel Howard (nee Taylor) || The second-born. She is shrewd and sharp-witted, and very much a product of her father's stern household. Though she has a warm smile and a soft touch, the scar on her lip and the hard steel in her eyes belies the kind advice she's wan to give at any given moment. Rachel stepped in to take care of her siblings alongside Alan when Dan was shipped off to military school, and the three eldest siblings have a very close (if incredibly easy-to-aggravate-one-another) bond. Has two twins, a boy and a girl. Was so eager to shed her last name that she legally changed it once her boyfriend proposed.
Alan Taylor || The third-born. Alan has all of Dan's taciturn stoicism, but he's been softened by years of fatherhood and a quiet life lived in peace with his husband and children. Alan admired his eldest brother immensely, and was the one who felt the most abandoned when Dan left (seeing as he became the next Oldest Boy in the household). It took a long time for the two to reconcile after Dan's small rise to fame, but the two would say they're even closer now than they were before Dan left. Literally the most dad of all dads - if Dan never wanted to give his own children a chance to face the cruelties of the world, than Alan wanted his own children to be able to experience nothing but love and kindness that the world has to offer. Has three kids, two girls and one boy.
Cheatham Taylor || The fourth-born. An absolute rascal, Cheatham is the Uncle Bumi of the family. Largely ignored by their father for his weakness of health in youth, Cheatheam began acting out and rebelling at an early age to garner any sort of attention from the Lieutenant. He and Dan were at odds for the majority of his youth, and it wasn't until Dan was forced from the house that Cheatham was forced to confront their reality. Cheatham spent a few years on the road with Daniel before taking over the family ranch (and turning it into a weed farm, just to spite the old man) He's a spitfire and has the best laugh in the world, and though they are polar opposites, Dan finds him to be the easiest to confide in. He is happily married and has two children, both boys.
Thomas Taylor || The fifth-born. The Clark Kent of the family, Thomas was the Lieutenant's "second attempt" at a Proper Son. Thomas was a sweetheart from the moment he was born, and though his father taught him all the things he'd taught Dan, bullied him and beat him like he'd bullied and beat Dan, he never lost that innate sweetness and goodness that kept him Thomas. Sweet, simple Thomas. He was young when Dan was sent away, but insisted on sending him letters every chance he got - and Dan saved every one. He owns a garage in Starlight Shores, and he and Dan have beers and watch football together on the weekends.
Jordan Perales || The sixth-born, Matthew's twin. An aspiring Simstagram model and the baby sister of the family, Jordan was very young when Daniel was sent away, but she remembered him incredibly fondly. Daniel was even more protective of his younger siblings in his father's later years, as the man seemed to get impossibly worse as time went on, and both Jordan and Matthew were constantly at his side. The two of them view Daniel as their father figure, and he and Jordan are particularly close: she's the one who convinced him to go on Jupiter York's bachelorette, and she's the one who convinced him to try The Bachelor Challenge for himself. You'll want to bond with all of his siblings, sure, but Jordan is the one you'll want to be friends with the most. She changed her name the second she turned eighteen.
Matthew Taylor || The seventh-born, Jordan's twin. Matthew is the youngest and final Taylor, a surprise baby hiding behind his sister in the ultrasounds. Matthew struggled the most as a child in the Taylor household, which is saying something: but to put it in perspective, Daniel took more punches, beatings, and bloodied noses for Matthew than any other child in the house. Daniel holds the world in his palms for Matthew, and the two are incredibly close. Matthew is trans, and he knew from a very young age - which, as you can imagine, didn't exactly sit well with the Lieutenant. As Daniel will have the public know, Matthew is a boy, was always a boy, and if his deadname or the traumatic history of his transition was ever made public, Daniel would personally John Wick whoever was responsible.

SUPERPOST: DIGIMON ADVENTURE: LAST EVOLUTION (KIZUNA) RECAP/REVIEW SPOILERSSSSSS
SPOILER ALERT I WILL BE GOING INTO DETAIL. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER.
I’m not gonna do a blacktober/drawtober today, but I willlll rant about Digimon, because nothing ever really changes. Ok, I’m tipsy and I feel like everyone and their mum has watched Kizuna now so I wanna finally express my feelfeels on it. Let’s goooo
-------------------------------------------------------
Ok, so I love how this movie opens especially as an old school fan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s perfect. I love the solid feeling of ‘finality’ to the series that we never got to see in Tri... (I’ll try not talk shit about Tri in this recap but it’s gonna be difficult, I’m sorry)
- We got that call back to the original soundtrack! The only time in life I will tear up at hearing Bolero.
- I adoreee the animation and designs in this movie. It feels so much more diverse (in terms of facial features) than Tri did without even trying really. The facial expressions are so much characteristic and there’s less awkward spacey moments. It’s nice! (Ooops, mentioned Tri: Count 2 haha)
- While I was a bit disappointed with the digidestined outfits when they were first released as still images, they do look a lot better in action and they fit in well with the world that is built. But Taichi swapping sneakers for sandals? Seems false lol
Tumblr media
Taichi’s anxiety about the destruction. Nice to see continuation and character development. We love him~~~
- The Parrotmon vs Greymon + Angemon + Angewomon fight looked dope and was a nice call back/development. The electricity and fire looked amazing and honestly had me hyped. A lot of fight scenes in this movie did.
Tumblr media
Haha, of course Yamato had to come in looking unnecessarily cool on his fancy new bike only to talk shit about Taichi. We love him too, goddammit lol
- It totally makes sense that the two pairs of siblings and Koushirou would be the most actively involved out of all of the digidestined tbh
Tumblr media
The movie opening theme being set to the original ‘Butterfly’ was great, and in a weird way reminded me a little of the Cowboy Bebop Movie opening theme - except very much in the style and world of Digimon Adventure
- The digidestined are public superheroes now? Makes sense, I don’t hate it~~~
- I love the montage of Taichi and Yamato going about their lives as people in their early 20s. Taichi mostly dealing with the pressures of adulthood. Yamato feeling nostalgic about the things he left behind in childhood (playing harmonica, being in a band)
Tumblr media
Ahhh, they can drink now! So weird, yet so fun haha
- It’s also really nice for my shipper heart to see Taichi and Yamato sit down and have a meal together without totally biting each other’s heads off. Shows how much they’ve matured!
- Yolei straight up was like ‘I don’t have time for this shit, Koushirou you deal with it’ 😂Mimi has taught you well, young padawan
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was really hoping these two would be a better addition than Maki and Daigo (RIP) and they were! It’s almost like the writers saw Tri and was like... let’s do better. (Ooops mentioned Tri: Count 3)
- I reallyyyyy really sadistically like the concept of the Digimon and Digidestined’s connection to each other dying slowly the older they get and with the less necessary the Digimon become in the human partner’s life. Yeahhhhh, it doesn’t match up with the 02 ending but I’m personally not too attached to that ending so I don’t mind. A) it’s actually a plot point that makes me give a shit and B) it’s very much a reflection of life which Digimon Adventure has always been and C) it makes sense of the reason as to why Digimon gravitate to children
Tumblr media
DAISUKE! We stan a kinggg, with his dope sunglasses. I’m so happy the 02 kids are involved in this, even if it is kinda minimal.
- I love that they included the fact that the digital gates are basically like a free airplane ticket to anywhere in the world with a computer. It’s such a useful and cool concept
- ‘Burger Queen’ ahaha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AHHHHHHHHH HAHAAHHAHA I can’t. It feel so wrong yet so... correct? Hahaha
Tumblr media
I’m sorry, my love for Gennai died with Tri. If it was old Gennai from Adventure maybe I would’ve felt a bit more nostalgic and loving. (Oops mentioned Tri: Count 4)
- I love the 02 kids basically being a smaller detective team that Chief Detective Yamato sent forth to do some investigating. It makes so much sense and we shoulda got this in triiiiii (I just wish we got this movie instead of Tri, I’m sorry Oops mentioned Tri: Count 5)
Tumblr media
Spy movie? I don’t hate it~~~~
Tumblr media
OK, DETECTIVE ISHIDA! (enter theme music which is most likely very dark and edgy and gothic with a hint of pop punk)
- Sora staying at home when Mimi is in the hospital seems... off... very off... but ok... ... ... I hate how they sidelined Sora in this movie. Why does every Digimon writer since Adventure hate Sora?!?!
- The act of Taichi literally shunning his future by switching off his phone to once again reach for his old goggles and old digivice is... poetic cinema
Tumblr media
Saw the switch coming but whoa 😳
- You know the whole concept of her creating an eternal Digital world was a cool concept until she called it Neverland
- While I really like Menoa and her being the villain, this isn’t exactly a new motivation. How many times have we seen human partners turn into villains after losing their Digimon, man?!?! Just more motivation into making me think this film is just fixing the mistakes of Tri (Oops mentioned Tri: Count 6)
Tumblr media
I really like this design! It might make my top 3 Digimon designs.
- You know... only in the Digimon fandom would a goddamn whistle make us all emotional 😭😂
Tumblr media
This movie is so pretty!!!!
- Wait... did Biyomon vanish and that’s why Sora wasn’t involved? 😢
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow. WOW. That goodbye... between Taichi and Agumon... and Yamato and Gabumon... was... ALL I WANTED/DIDN’T WANT. Seriously. As I said before, I really like the fact that this movie feels... final. Honestly, I don’t want grown up adventures with the Digimon - regardless of how mean that sounds. What’s unique about Digimon is how childlike it is and the separation between the Digimon’s childlike nature and the Digidestined was growing the older the humans got and it wouldn’t make full sense for the relationship between the two to go from friends and almost equals to parent and child.
I guess I would’ve been more accepting of the Digimon staying a constant in the Digidestined lives if the writers touched on the theme of the Digimon being adult or baby whenever they like (or whenever they eat) and relating it to humans still looking after their inner child of curiosity and creativity as they get older. But that’s a pretty difficult concept, I’m still working my head around that haha
Also, Digimon has always specifically been a metaphor/real example for the joys and hardships of childhood. While it’s super sad, I’m glad we got such a nice send off!

December birthday party
I planned to post it on December 22 but i forgot... Either way, here's a fanfic in honour of Charlie and Rowan's birthdays that are in December.
Summery: Mc and the friends are throwing a birthday party for both Rowan and charlie
Word count: 1.8k
~~
"Listen up, everybody! Charlie's birthday was last week and- I always forget the exact date, but- Rowan's birthday will be soon since it's close to Christmas! We've gotta get going!"
"With what exactly?" Asked Jae. He was always suspicious with whatever plans MC came up with.
"With the surprise party, of course!" They said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "We need to decide on a theme, place, time, the people we'll invite, who's in charge of the decorations and cake and snacks.. so pretty much, everything."
"We've still got like, almost a week to prepare everything.." Tonks complained. MC gathered all of them right before bed time and she wanted to go to sleep already.
"Anyone have any ideas for a theme?" MC continued.
"Toads!" Tulip yelled.
"Bowtruckles!" Barnaby chimed in.
"Fashion. It should definitely be about fashion." Andre added.
"Hmm.. cowboys..?" Talbott suggested.
MC did a face-palm and groaned, "no, no, no, you just proposed things you like. We need to think what Charlie and Rowan like!"
"Dragons and books, then," said Penny hesitantly.
"See, that's much better," MC agreed, "maybe dragons and trees? Or just.. fire?"
"It'll be lit!" Tonks snickered.
"Great! So who wants to be in charge of the decorations? It has to be fire themed!" MC continued
"I guess.. me? I'm already experienced, after the celestial ball.."
"I can help," Chiara and Liz said in unison.
"Perfect! Now let's decide on a time and place.. I think we can do it on the 22 of December.. any ideas for a place?"
"The Gryffindor common room," said Jae.
"The duelling club!" Diego added.
"The artefact room.." Ben tried to suggest.
"Seriously, guys! Don't propose places you like! How about the three broomsticks? Then Bill can come too, and we'll have butterbeers."
"Yes! And I can get more sweets from honeydukes," Tulip volunteered.
"Jae, I put you in charge of the cake," MC told him, and he tried to oppose, "why me? Can't Penny do it? Or literally anyone else?"
"After years of detention in the kitchen, I think you'll do great," they winked, remembering their adventure together, when they tried new recipes for Hagrid and Jae turned to be really good at cooking and baking, but made them promise not to tell.
"Fine," he murmured in respond.
"Can we go to sleep now?" Ben asked the question everyone wanted to ask.
"Not yet, we just have to decide on the most important thing.. how and who will keep Charlie and Rowan busy while we prepare everything, and then bring them to the three broomsticks?"
"You? You're the best at stalling, no offense," said Andre.
"I'll take that as a compliment.. alright, everyone knows what they're responsible for?"
"Yes.." they all groaned, wishing to go to sleep already.
"So don't forget.. we're meeting up in the three broomsticks in three days! I won't be there because I'll be with Rowan and Charlie so, Penny, I'm putting you in charge of making sure everything goes as planned, goodnight!"
There was a sound of tired whispers as they all walked back to their dormitories, aside from MC, who went straight to the owlery, to write and send a letter to Bill, asking if he could pass by for Rowan and Charlie's surprise party.
The next three days passed fast and strangely enough, uneventfully, except for that one time Ben almost exposed the plan.
Finally, the 22th of December has arrived, and at 4pm, when the rest of the group got together at the three broomsticks to prepare everything, MC walked with Rowan to meet Charlie at the library.
"You sure I'm the right study partner?" Charlie asked with honesty, "I'm not really good at studying.."
"Nonsense! You're my best friend, of course I'd rather study with you no matter what!"
"I thought I was your best friend?"
"You're THE best friend, Rowan. Everyone else is just my best friends, without THE.."
"Yeah, I'm not sure about that.."
"Anyway.. let's study!" MC shouted, causing Madam Pince to threaten to kick them out. Charlie still didn't felt like studying, he and Rowan exchanged looks, before Rowan spoke up, "But, we don't have any exams? Why would you want to study all of a sudden?"
"Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure."
"Quoting Rowena Ravenclaw won't help you get away without an answer!"
MC stood up, with their hands still on the table, and said, "you know, I just realized I never saw the both of you at the quidditch field... isn't that weird?" MC smiled nervously.
"I watch all of yours and Charlie's and Andre's matchs, what are you talking about?" Rowan tilted their head, the way they always do when they're confused. Which happens frequently around MC.
"But I never saw you together! You have so much to talk about, I mean, Charlie's an expert in quidditch and you're an expert of trees.. don't you want to talk about it?"
"That's a strange topic to discuss.." Charlie mumbled, "and the quidditch field is taken for one of the teams practice right now.."
"But if you insist," Rowan continued, "we can go around and look for broomes.."
"Wha- no! We can't! Because.. I umm.. promised Ben I'll help with that thing uh-"
"We saw him leaving the castle on our way to the library," said Rowan, "he said he's going to buy a new quill."
"Uh, right. I forgot. Do you want to help me pack my bags then?"
"I thought you're staying in Hogwarts for Christmas like always?" Rowan smiled, and MC panicked, what if they somehow know about the party?
"It still shouldn't be messy, and you know how my side of the dorm looks like, hehe.."
"I'm sorry, what's happening?" Charlie had zoned out half of the conversation and was now confused.
"Just MC acting mysterious all over again.." Rowan stared at mc with a suspected look.
"Aren't they always, though?" He shrugged.
"You know me.. the mystery of Hogwarts," MC laughed nervously.
Rowan and Charlie again looked at each other and then at MC, who still giggled.
"Anyway, do you need help packing, Charlie?"
"No, It's fine, I already did! I'm really excited to go back home and see my parents and Ron and Ginny again, and of course Bill! And the best part is I'll get so many presents! Christmas presents and birthday present, what can be better than that?"
"Yeah it's so nice your birthdays are close to Christmas, isn't it?" MC said, finally stopping Rowan's suspicions. "It is!" Rowan cheered, "I get to celebrate both Christmas and my birthday at home in the tree farm with my family! I miss mum and dad and my brother of course! He suppose to go to Hogwarts next year, isn't it exciting??"
"You have a brother? How come you never mentioned it?" Charlie wondered if he somehow missed this piece of information about his friend.
"Yes, and you'll meet him next year, I hope!"
"With your brother, Penny's sister and my brothers we'll have so many younger siblings here next year!"
"It's going to be a challenge," MC snickered, "I mean, we can barley keep them out of trouble now.." They all laughed, because it was true.
"So what time is it?" MC asked when the laughs faded.
"4 and a half.. why? Are we in a hurry?" Rowan asked.
"No no, I just remembered I told Ben- I mean, Penny, I'll meet her at the three broomsticks at 5 so.. hehe.." they chuckled.
"Why don't we just go and wait for her there, huh?" Rowan smiled mischievously, and MC gulped nervously.
"Rowan, you're too smart for this world," they patted them on the back, "let's kill time with a game of gobstons instead, okay?"
"Fine," Rowan finally gave up on trying to discover what MC is hiding from them.
They all walked to the courtyard and played gobstons for a while, just laughing and smiling until their stomach ache.
"Is it 5 already?" MC asked after a while, right before Charlie's turn.
"5 and a half actually," said Rowan, and before they could say anything else MC shouted, "what?! It's been a hour already?!"
"Time does fly when you're having fun.." Charlie mumbled, while thinking what can be the right move.
"We have to go! Now!"
"At least let me finish my turn!" Charlie whined as MC dragged with him and Rowan.
"Why do we even have to come with you to your meeting with Penny?" Rowan asked when they were near honeydukes.
"Well you know.. because.. it's just.. you see-" MC stalled, trying to earn some time while they're getting closer to the pub, "just get inside, alright?"
Rowan glared at them with one last suspection look as Charlie entered the pub without a doubt.
"Surprise!!!"
The friend's usual spot at the three broomsticks was filled with people. Friends, to be accurate. There were two dozens glass of butterbeer on the table, with a diverse selection of coulorful candies. The celling was decorated with paper dragons, flying around, roaring quietly, surrounded by trees, and you could notice some tiny paper books flying around above with brooms on their side, as well.
Rowan looked as if they were about to faint and Charlie was too ecstatic to talk.
"Wha- it's so- I-" Rowan eyes were filled with tears of joy, they never thought they'd have so many caring friends who would want to throw a birthday party just for them.
"This is so cool!" Charlie shouted, "are those dragons?!" He looked at the celling with an excited look.
"Just wait until we get home for Christmas.. mum's going to cry and hug you so much," Bill laughed, "seventeen is the most important age!"
"You can do magic!"
"You can apparate!"
"You're practically an adult!"
Everyone laughed and cheered. Rowan and Charlie were so far from being like all the adults they knew. They didn't changed much from that sweet anxious behavior they had in their first years at Hogwarts.
Bill raised his glass of butterbeer, "to Charlie, the best brother and the greatest quidditch player and the most dragon-excited person we know!" He laughed.
"And to Rowan!" MC snatched the glass of butterbeer out of Bill's hand, and raised it as well, "the best friend anyone could ever have. The loyal, ambitious, kind and smartest person I know!"
"Whooooohoooo!" Tonks applaused and they all drank their butterbeers and started to chat with each other.
Maybe it was the butterbeer, or the heat inside the pub, or maybe it was the fact that all their friends were together with them in one place, just laughing and smiling, happy for their friend's birthdays.
Whatever it was, it made both Charlie and Rowan feel warm inside.

@urianius
to say areum expected this would be an understatement. to say she knew exactly how to handle it despite expecting it would be the lie. she’s expected this more like it’s been something in the wind, up in the air. after ahyeon thought to bring up legends and tales with soonyoung ( despite never holding a conversation with him ) and ahyeon catching a peek of donghyuck waiting by the cove they meet at - she’s had a feeling. she didn’t know how bold he’d be, how deep the curiosity went and her sister had mentioned nothing of the sailor boy.
areum hadn’t asked questions, had just smiled as she saw something akin to deja vu unfold before her eyes. she didn’t know donghyuck well enough to judge how safe he was, but she knew enough to allow him into her home. her husband was a nice man but he was protective of his own, and that meant that despite integrating her into the island life, he only let a few spend time near them and their soon-to-be family. those few included donghyuck who, after tasting an old recipe she’d been trying to get soonyoung to learn, the boy’s been frequenting their cottage.
never without soonyoung though, and areum makes a point to keep that difference apparent in the distance between them in the cabin kitchen. their home is a small one, as close to the water as possible, close enough for areum to hear the waves and know it’s also lulling her child to sleep during nights soonyoung is gone. it warms her heart because even in this body she knows their child is a part of the sea.
nights like this, when she tries her best not to revert to the mistrustful ways of her kind.
donghyuck is quiet, and he’s been quiet since he entered and the door shut behind him. their brief interactions have made it hard for her to know exactly how to address him, and despite how long she’s ben here - areum knows there are many things that give away how foreign she is. especially now.
given the circumstances she wonders if that matters at all, how open she’s allowed to be and how this might end. her curiosity had been a reckless thing, a worrisome thing that’d led her to the love of her life, but that’s not always the case and now it’s not her she has to look out for. it’s her and soonyoung’s child.
she sets the candle on the table and her eyes on the boy who looks about as lost and new to this as she feels.  her experience on land has made her a little mischievous though.
“well?” if his interests lie where she thinks, he’s going to have to accept a little brashness from her. it’d been silent previously, little movement just shadows dancing on the walls but her voice seems to bring him back, and his gaze falls on her. it’s a curious one, curious enough that she can see the questions turning in his head.
‘i - i’ve met someone that looks like you, at the cove.’ “i’ve met sailors that look like you in all my travels.” she stifles a giggle at how his brows furrow at that, like he’s second guessing all his reasons, or perhaps the right way to come out and say it. he’s sure of himself, he has to be, areum knows he’s met ahyeon but she also knows the questions and the doubt that her existence must give him. right now she’s sure which would be harder to believe.
a mermaid actually existing or a human that looks uncannily similar to one. areum shifts, the length she’s spent standing starting to get to her. she won’t sit though, she’s going to address this with the dignity afforded to her kind and the seriousness that it demands. soonyoung would scold her but she figures he’d have more things to ask about should the conversation go on. that - all depends on if donghyuck can dodge her diversions.
“if that’s all....it really is late.” ‘a mermaid - i met a mermaid at the cove.’ “lee donghyuck - are you here to tell tales?” ‘a mermaid that looks like you!’ she allows the raise in his voice if only because she knows it’s what he needs to push through. the second half is much quieter, almost shy like he still can’t believe it. almost exactly like you.’
as the smile curves onto her face areum lets go of some of her reservations. he looks determined now, and whatever his intentions are, at least he’s prepared to seem crazy to see them through.
“are you sure of what you saw?” ‘i know it, tail and everything.’ “is that so?” areum’s enjoying it, rarely does she get to tease like this, especially because her husband lets her get away with so much in the irritable stages of her pregnancy. he’s also so very gullible when it comes to the words that leave her mouth so it’s no fun. donghyuck - donghyuck is loads of fun. especially when the irony is that she knows he’s right, but he has no idea. the knowledge seems to seep in the longer she keeps the smile up, and it makes him fidget, out of frustration, confusion anything.
‘she looks like you! she was watching you and soonyoung from the cove - and i’ve seen you go there late when i’m loading ships. why?’
it’s a lot to handle, to process and he’s taken a leap without her so much as giving him a hint to chase. her silence might be giving him more confidence than intended and she allows it because she gets it. soonyoung had a similar confusion in the days following their first meeting though...areum’s interested in how he handled meeting ahyeon if he’s this straight-forward. areum acquiesces and finally takes a seat at the kitchen table. in all the excitement she feels yet another kick to her stomach and she supposes she shouldn’t get the baby used to such late hours.
“I would think - siblings are supposed to look a little like one another. don’t you think?”
the questions stumps that first confidence she knows it and she’d done it on purpose.
‘sisters...you’re joking right?’ “do i seem like i’m joking?”
‘all those stories - about soonyoung being smitten with you....’ “oh please i didn’t enchant the man and enslave him.” ‘how do i know that for sure?’ it’s been a while but over the flicker of the candle areum’s sure her eyes flash their original color. she knows humans have their tales, their ideas of her kind and while she’s tolerated what she’s had soonyoung ask and learn, she doesn’t quite have the patience for anyone else. he’d often mentioned it, how they were seen as maidens to drag men to their deaths, she knows the falseness of that as much as she knows as the true horrors that they’d never really know of. regardless, it gets tiring hearing what’s been made true and then made them out to be a threat without anyone to back their kind up.  “if i had you’d have never seen him again.” she sees him swallow. ‘is that - is that what she plans to do with me?’ “is that what you think she intends to do?” areum leans forward, her fascination getting the best of her. donghyuck is expressive and she can see every emotion and thought as it passes by his face. though, that could be from the lack of interaction she has when her husband is gone. her trips to the markets are early and without much hustle. her discussions are the same old banter with the market ladies and the sailors by the harbor who check on her in his absence. it’s been a while since she’d had something so interesting, so stimulating with another human. it’s fun.
“if that was her intention dear - you wouldn’t be here.” a yawn courses through her body at that the night catching up with her as the conversation simmers down. areum is having too much fun but she also doesn’t know what the outcome of this will be.
whatever thoughts are going through now, she can’t be bothered to try and read them. if he’ll go home and decide he wants nothing to do with the enigma that is the two of them. she wouldn’t blame him, but she sees the hint of a red on his cheeks over the shadows of the candle on his face and she thinks it counts for something.
“anymore questions? this is quite tiring i thought i’d get something interesting, like what her favorite color is, or any human items that’d fascinate her that you can show her, maybe her actual name? though i doubt you can say it properly.”
‘there’s - one thing i’d like to know how to say.’ “oh?” ‘i tried to tell her - her tail was pretty, i think she didn’t understand me.’ “i can teach you that, but please there isn’t enough time in the night for you to butcher our language.” she sees the first hint of an actual smile, of actual relief in his posture and areum deems that must be enough for tonight. she stretches over the table and steadies herself to get up and help him to the door. hyuck pauses mid stride into following her and she gives him time, space to get all he needs off his chest.
‘so then - you’re a mermaid.’ “was.” ‘you can do that? change forms?’ “i traded one, for another.” ‘does she - visit often? your sister?’ “that depends.” ‘on what?’
areum smiles then, and leaves that as her answer as she ushers him to the door.
“goodnight. and about the phrase.” areum delivers the words as if she were still underwater, with all the dry air of land but the heart from her home. it does feel weird speaking in her tongue with anyone other than her sister but it’s worth it for the look of puzzle but determination on his face. it’s reminiscent of a certain husband of hers and that’s why she trusts him with the words. “next time you see her, try that.”
‘what’s that mean?’ “you’ll find out.”
she leaves him with that, and closes to door to a final breath with her back pressed to it. the candle is nothing compared to the warmth swimming in her chest, the excitement and her hand comes to rub against her belly, a smile automatic on her face.
‘we’ve got quite a lot to tell your dad when he’s back don’t we?’

Headcanons about how each member of the Outsiders gang feel about the others?
ooh this is an interesting one...
(this is gonna be so long LMAO)
so, just to be clear: these guys are a gang, like brothers, and they would do anything for each other.  they might get seriously pissed off at one another sometimes, but when push comes to shove, they’ll be there if the other guy needs them, no questions asked
like, outside the group, they do have other friends, but the seven of them have something special that other people see and are envious of.  other people - no matter what side of the tracks they’re from - are sort of jealous of them and wish they could be like that with their friends
honestly, I think a big part of why they’re friends is because they’ve just always been friends, and it’s hard to imagine life without the others there, no matter how incompatible they may seem on paper - they’re a diverse, interesting group of guys with all sorts of different outlooks on life and personalities
that said, I do think they kinda pair off with each other a lot, especially now that Darry’s pretty busy with trying to keep a household
obviously Soda and Steve are BFFs
Darry and Two-Bit are each others’ best friends, being the oldest and having known each other forever
then there’s Pony, Johnny, and Dallas, and they’re sort of a trio
however, Dallas and Tim are probably each others’ best friends, even though they kinda hate each other.  interesting dynamic there
but Johnny is also sorta both Pony and Dally’s best friend, and Johnny doesn’t like to pick so he’d probably say the same
Pony wouldn’t say so to Dally’s face, but in truth he’s pretty scared of him so...yeah.
but when any of these pairs pair up, or - worse - all seven of them are together?  watch the fuck out.  for real, these guys are mischief makers.  not dangerous, just incredibly stupid and loud lmao
like...Darry will 1000% cut loose if he gets the chance to be with the rest of them and they will all cheer him on to be the biggest dumbass he can be, and tbh it’s pretty cute, in a stupid boy way
oh - and Darry is everyone’s role model
Now, thinking individually:
Darry
Sodapop: obviously Soda is his younger brother and he has to look out for him legally, but I feel they’re pretty tight - Pony even says so in the book.  Soda can get away with teasing him, and he’s a great shoulder to cry on when things are getting stressful.  also: “little buddy” *wibbles*
Ponyboy: he loves this kid bunches, but he just doesn’t get him sometimes.  he also frustrates him to no end, and wishes he would just listen and realize he’s trying to help him.  he’s really protective of Pony, and sees him as a really little kid still, so sometimes he goes a bit overboard with looking out for him, but he can’t help it - he’s seriously worried about him all the time
Johnny: Darry also worries about Johnny a lot, but sort of in a helpless way - Darry just doesn’t really know what to do besides be there for him.  but he’s glad Johnny’s there for Pony, and when they actually get a chance to talk (which isn’t often), they always have the most laid-back conversations
Dallas: these two have a serious respect for each other, and for as much as Darry recognizes that Dally is a real-deal thug, he knows he has his own code that he lives by, and Darry respects that.  Darry isn’t afraid to go toe-to-toe with him, though, considering he always keeps his door open to him, so he doesn’t tolerate his bullshit
Two-Bit: like I said above, I see these two as best friends.  they’re total opposites, and that’s what makes them work as buddies.  Two-Bit gets Darry to loosen up every now and then, and they’ve known each other since before god, so it’s not unusual to see them on the front steps with a six pack shooting the shit and talking about their little siblings, sports, life, etc.
Steve: Darry respects and cares about Steve, but I think he’ll always view him as Soda’s best friend, so in his head Steve is just this annoying little kid still at times.  also, he still kinda holds a grudge for that “all brawn, no brains” comment.  but Darry would never turn him away, and is always asking him for car help
Sodapop
Darry: I feel like Soda sees himself as Darry’s equal, and that’s why he’s got no fear of him.  he will tease him, call him out on his bullshit, and listen to whatever he has to say without trying to give him a bunch of advice.  Soda does wish that Darry would lighten up a little sometimes, though, just relax and be present with the rest of them like he used to
Ponyboy: as a middle kid, Soda loves having a big brother, but also having a little brother that he can be there for.  he thinks Pony is just the smartest kid he’s ever met, and he’s really proud of him.  he also is Pony’s shoulder to cry on a lot of times, and he tries to include him in stuff to help him out of his shell if Steve isn’t being an issue
Johnny: Soda wishes he could see more of Johnny - he thinks he’s a good guy, a loyal friend - but they don’t really get the chance that often.  but Soda always asks Johnny how he’s doing, what’s new with him, and always checks in on him
Dallas: Dally doesn’t scare Soda that much, and they have a fun time together, but Soda’s not blind to the person he is, his darker side.  he knows not to cross him because he’s afraid of what happen if he will, so he tries to keep things light between the two of them, just shoot the shit and talk about girls, go driving, etc.
Two-Bit: Soda’s favorite dumbass.  if Soda has a dumb idea, Two-Bit is his yes-man.  they play off each other really well, and Sodapop likes that with Two-Bit, things just don’t feel complicated.  life is just easy, and Two-Bit is always willing to either listen, or distract, and Soda seriously appreciates that
Steve: these two are just trouble when they’re together, no beating around the bush.  these two are also pretty different from each other, but they’ve been friends so long that Soda can’t imagine not having Steve for a friend.  they just get each other, and since Soda has so many people dump on him...Steve is the guy he goes to when he needs to vent.  they can just work on a car together and talk, and all Soda needs Steve to do is listen
Ponyboy
Darry: Pony wishes Darry could be the way he used to be before the accident, and he often gets frustrated with him, sees him as a nag and someone who just wants to be right and make everyone do what he says.  but he also loves him and looks up to him and knows that Darry is doing his best, so sometimes he tries to cut him some slack.  there are times when they’re one-on-one and Pony really enjoys that - Darry is smart, and they can talk about school and books without anyone looking at them sideways, and Pony really admires his big brother’s intelligence
Sodapop: we know Pony loves Sodapop - he even admits he’s his favorite brother.  he really does put him on a pedestal (when he probably shouldn’t), but Soda isn’t always on his back about everything and is a great person to talk to and work things out with.  Pony thinks he’s pretty much one of the coolest guys in town, too, and wants to be like that
Johnny: soft bffs :’)  Pony does definitely see Johnny as kinda skittish, but he’s also his best friend.  they don’t have to talk at all, which is honestly perfect for both of them.  Pony sees Johnny as his equal even though he’s two years older, and is always trying to play up to him, and even sometimes protect him from others.  I think Pony also probably likes to watch Johnny play pinball, lol
Dallas: Pony is scared of Dallas - period, point blank.  he respects him, but he’s scared of him, and doesn’t get for a long time that Dallas actually cares about him
Two-Bit: Pony sees Two-Bit as a goof, sure, but he also sort of looks up to him - he’s calm, he’s funny, he seems to have a grip on life; an understanding of it that he can put in concise words.  being with Two-Bit is easy for him, and he likes that Two-Bit is always willing to include him and talk to him and not make him feel stupid
Steve: even though he’s Soda’s best friend, these two are like oil and water.  Pony thinks Steve is too serious, too snarky, too mean to actually be able to like, but he still cares about him because of how close he is to his brother, and respects his intelligence and work ethic
Johnny
Darry: Darry has been kinder to Johnny than he could ever feel he deserved, and he’s grateful.  he’s a little scared of him, but really only because he’s a giant of a guy...but with Johnny, he’s a gentle giant
Sodapop: he kinda wishes he could be as popular and laid-back as Soda, as good with the girls as Soda.  but it’s so hard for Johnny not to like him because of how nice and chill he is.  he also really appreciates that Soda isn’t overbearing with “protecting” him - he just lets him be himself
Ponyboy: Johnny thinks Pony is just so smart, and so talented, and 99% of the time, he isn’t jealous of that.  he looks out for him in his own quiet way, but can also see how some might think Pony is kind of annoying.  but he really likes him, and is more than willing to let the kid either just sit with him quietly or talk his ear off about his books and movies
Dallas: Johnny’s hero.  what else needs to be said?
Two-Bit: Johnny thinks Two-Bit is a real cut-up - he gets on his nerves a bit at times, but he likes his upbeat, no-nonsense outlook on life and that he treats him like an equal
Steve: he and Steve are just sorta friends, without much complications to it.  Johnny thinks Steve is smart and surly, but his attitude doesn’t stop him from liking him
Dallas
Darry: this is the one person Dallas would never dare cross.  ever.  he may snark at him, but that’s it.  and you know what?  Dallas respects that.  he sees Mrs. Curtis in her oldest son, and that softens him towards him.
Sodapop: Darry’s kid brother.  he’s wild and way too upbeat for Dallas most times, but that wild energy can sometimes be harnessed into some real wild times, and that’s when Dallas really has fun with him
Ponyboy: Darry and Soda’s kid brother.  he knows the kid is something special, though, but he doesn’t know how to express that.  but he doesn’t mind him tagging along on his escapades, and gets a kick out of him
Johnny: the one person Dallas loved (however you view that love, romantic or platonic).  What else needs to be said?
Two-Bit: he’s annoying, but there’s something about Two-Bit that Dallas can’t help but respect.  they’ve gotten into fights before, but Two-Bit is the opposite in Darry in that he seems to have that same energy of don’t fuck with me, or you’ll regret it, which doesn’t make sense to Dally because he’s such a goof
Steve: Dallas respects that Steve is good in a fight, keeps his trap shut, and is smart.  period, full stop.
Two-Bit
Darry: if Two-Bit didn’t have Darry, he’d be in constant trouble.  he helps him feel like more of an adult, and he wishes he could be more like him at times.  but they’re old friends, and Two-Bit wishes he could see more of him like he used to, and he’s always trying to cheer Darry up while also asking him for advice and venting to him because he feels like everyone else will view that as him being a burden
Sodapop: again - this is a crazy duo.  just watch out for these two when they’re together.  Two-Bit will say yes to any of Soda’s stupid plans, and Soda will do the same for him.  seriously, just watch the fuck out for these two.
Ponyboy: Two-Bit is worried about this kid.  he really sees him like a little brother, and he wishes he could stay innocent and kind forever, and works to do what he can to preserve that because he’s so smart and has so much to offer.  he just tries to be there for the kid, and wishes he could see that the whole gang really cares about him
Johnny: Two-Bit honestly believed for a long time that they couldn’t get along without Johnny turns out they couldn’t get along without Pony.  he knows Johnny’s tough, but Two-Bit can’t help but be a bit protective over him, and often forgets he can handle himself
Dallas: in some ways, for as much as Two-Bit likes getting up to trouble with him and screwing around together, Two-Bit thinks Dallas is an idiot.  he’s dangerously reckless, opposed to Two-Bit being more harmlessly reckless, and worries about Pony and Johnny hanging around him.  he likes him for sure, but thinks he’s a pretty bad influence
Steve: Two-Bit sees Steve as a bear to poke and get a reaction out of.  he gets a real kick out of messing with him because he’s so serious, but he also knows how smart and dedicated a friend Steve is, and really likes that about him.  he wishes he’d lighten up a bit and be nicer to Ponyboy, but he’s loyal to him and considers him a very close friend
Steve
Darry: Steve really respects Darry for the sacrifices he’s made, but he sometimes reads him wrong and crosses a line with him.  he tries not to do that because I think he wishes he could be more like him - just as smart, just as strong, just as dedicated
Sodapop: again - best friends, y’all.  Steve appreciates that Soda is the more upbeat person of the pair, can get him out of a slump and put things into perspective for him - things aren’t always quite as bad as they seem.  they’ve known each other so long, that Steve can’t imagine his life without Soda and sees him as the brother he never had.  if Steve’s the mechanic, Soda’s the driver
Ponyboy: thinks he’s a TWERP.  he hates how he’s whiny and always tagging along everywhere, and he can’t help but think of him as the baby of the group.  bitch bitch bitch.  but...he has to look out for him.  he tells himself it’s for Darry and Soda, but he feels this strong urge to protect him that he can’t quite explain (and definitely doesn’t like)
Johnny: Johnny behaves more like Steve wishes Pony would - he’s cool, and nowhere near as whiny, so Steve likes hanging out with him, and looks out for him, too - like when Sylvia came onto him.  he wants to help preserve what very little happiness and innocence Johnny has left, so Steve is always inviting him places
Dallas: Steve thinks Dallas is a bastard, but in a good way.  he thinks he’s tough and tuff, and likes how he doesn’t give a damn about the law and will fuck up anyone who gets in his way.  there are days where Steve wishes he could care as little as Dally, but he just can’t, and that’s where there’s sometimes still a disconnect - Steve does care, in his own way
Two-Bit: these two often get stuck together.   they’re actually close in their own way, especially after Johnny and Dallas die, because it’s the brothers and them, so Steve appreciates having Two-Bit around to lighten things up, even if he claims to think he’s annoying.  they can just sit around the DX and talk about whatever, and it’s easy, and Steve appreciates Two-Bit always trying with him, not being deterred by his often crappy moods

Six Baudelaires AU, Part Three: Reference Guide
A quick guide for everything I intentionally referenced in The Six Siblings, That’s Not How the Story Goes.
{ao3} {tumblr} {part one reference guide} {part two reference guide}
Without further ado…
Tumblr media
Chapter One / Prologue - in which the Baudelaires get lost at the train station
“We’re dead as heck.” Nick shrugged.
Considering the younger age of the children here, they use much lighter swear words.
Klaus had his hands over his ears, and he looked on the edge of tears. “It’s too loud! It’s too loud!”
Klaus is overstimulated.
They were in some kind of shoeshop, and a ginger man glanced at them. “Oh, hello!” he said. “Are you- where are your parents?” [...] “When did you see them last?” [...] “Why don’t you have some snacks? It’s all vegan, if-”
The shoemaker that helps them out is Drumstick from File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents, who is noted to have made money repairing shoes.
“Lilac is almost-nine,” Klaus said, “And she’s got two braids cause she wants to be like Wednesday Addams on TV.”
The Wednesday Addams reference should be obvious, though I should point out that Lilac wants to emulate the 1960s Wednesday, which is the one she’s seen on TV; the older show once again makes the time period ambiguous.
“Oh my God.” Beatrice was saying. “Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.” “Kids, are you alright?” Bertrand asked, the second they pulled away. “Did anything happen?”
Pretty clearly, the Baudelaire parents were terrified that VFD had abducted their children while they were separated.
“No! No, we’re gonna be fine!” Lilac said quickly. “We just need to find Klaus and Nick. I… I’ve gotta find them. I’m in charge. I’ve gotta find them-”
Ah, Lilac’s already got Anxiety™.
Rest of the fic under the cut.
Tumblr media
Chapter Two - in which Violet saves everyone’s asses
No major references in this chapter.
Chapter Three - in which Sunny cusses quite a bit
“Their species can completely freeze over in cold temperatures.” Solitude assured him. “So they may stop moving, almost look dead, but they’ll be alright, and they’ll unfreeze when we get somewhere warm. We’ll have to catch them up on whatever happens.”
Babbitt’s based off of a wood frog, which do freeze in low temperatures.
Also to note: by this point in the fanfiction, Solitude no longer uses babytalk, and instead speaks in full sentences.
Chapter Four - in which the Baudelaires join the Snow Scouts
“Oh, yes.” Klaus said. “Those snow gnats behaved like Violent Frozen Dragonflies.” “Guys…” Nick whispered, but none of them heard him.
Nick is not a fan of VFD at this point, but his siblings are too busy trying to get help from this scout that they don’t immediately notice his discomfort.
As her story continued, Nick pulled on Klaus’s sleeve, gesturing that he wanted to talk, but Klaus shook his head; the other Snow Scouts would notice them leaving.
Trying to tell Klaus something about VFD.
“I mean it.” Nick shook his head. “Things can’t ever go back to the way they were. Even if one- or both- of our parents is up there, and they shove Olaf off a cliff and take us home… it’s not going to be the same. We… we know too much.” His siblings remained silent, processing this, as Nick wiped his eyes on his sleeve. “They won’t protect us.”
Nick knows how VFD recruits its “volunteers”; his fear is that their parents are alive and consented to them being recruited, and will just turn them over to VFD.
Chapter Five - in which Nick gets to climb something again
She hmmed, brushing her bangs out of her face as she considered what she could make with all of this.
Sunny already has long hair that she’ll need to tie back while thinking, like her big sisters.
Sunny held out the mug of orange juice, and said, “Aurantiaco,” which meant, “Chip away at the juice until you have shavings, so I can make orange granita.”
“Aurantiaco” is derived from the Latin adjective “aurantiacus”, meaning “orange.”
Chapter Six - in which Sunny makes a signal
Quigley gave her a smile, and then looked back down, as the Baudeaires crowded around him- all except Lilac, who was still staring at the smoke. “Well, we’ll have to go back through the Vernacularly Fastened Door, down the Vertical Flame Diversion, hike the path the Snow Scouts are taking- and they might notice we’re gone by now so we’ll have to come up with some excuse, Duncan always said you could never go wrong with an exit pursued by a bear-”
A reference to a famous stage direction from William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale.
Chapter Seven - in which Lilac goes feral
Nick bit his lip and pushed a charred novel back onto the shelf, before moving to scratch his arm.
TRIGGER WARNING: SELF HARM MENTION
Once again, Nick’s arm scratching occurs whenever Olaf or his troupe are mentioned.
Klaus walked over, too, and he pulled his siblings into a hug. “We’ll protect each other.” he said. “Okay? No sacrificing ourselves, no kidnappings, no separations. No more.”
Klaus really wants to make sure Lilac doesn’t try to trade herself, like she tried to do with Nick.
“Lilac, seriously, I can’t breathe-” “Then suffocate.”
A reference to the popular meme:
Tumblr media
“We hate to interrupt!” came Lilac’s voice, and Violet and Quigley turned to see her and the twins run back into the kitchen, “But we found something!”
Lilac: Y’ALL BETTER NOT BE FLIRTING IN HERE
Chapter Eight - in which the Baudelaires raid the fridge
Solitude looked up. “Sure, hon.”
A reference to the meme:
Tumblr media
“I was making them an anniversary present- a map of all the places they’d traveled.” Quigley sighed. “And I never got to tell them that I don’t…” he hesitated, and then said, “I mean, Duncan and Isadora came out to them, but I never told them that whenever I was doing astronomy class and called myself a space ace…” Violet laughed, and Quigley flinched. “No, no, I’m not making fun of you, it’s a good pun, I’ll have to make sure Nick knows it.”
Quigley and Nick are both asexual.
“I think my parents found out when I told them I wanted to marry both Elizabeth and Darcy.” Violet smiled. “Lilac and Nick teased me about that for years. I don’t even know if they remember now.” Quigley stared at her. “Holy shit. Vi… I said the same thing.”
A reference to Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
Violet is bisexual, Quigley is biromantic.
Nick slid against a half-collapsed wall, screaming into his lap, hot tears springing to the edge of his eyes and streaming down his face.
TRIGGER WARNING: PTSD, SELF-HARM
Nick goes away to have a panic attack without his siblings worrying about him; it’s also explained in this segment how his scratching is him desperately trying not to slip into a flashback.
Chapter Nine - in which Lilac and Nick are very pissed off
“Nocere!” Sunny said, which meant something like, “I’m alright, they haven’t done anything too bad.”
“Nocere” comes from the Latin verb “noceo”, meaning “to hurt.”
“Uncus!” “The hook-handed man made it so I didn’t freeze.”
“Uncus” is the Latin word for “hook.”
And then she asked, “Senio?” which meant, “Where are the others?”
“Senio” is the Latin word for “six.”
“Nosra,” Sunny said, which meant, “A man with a beard but no hair and a woman with hair but no beard; they’re arsonists who burned down the Headquarters.”
“Nosra” is “arson” spelled backwards.
“Coquus.” Sunny said. “I can do that. There’s enough ingredients to make spinach rolls in the trunk, including an eggplant that’s about as big as I am.”
“Coquus” is the Latin word for “cook.”
“I know, Vi! I know what they’ll do to her, what they’re probably already doing to her!”
Obvious reference to Nick’s time as a captive, but subtler reference to the fact that Olaf tortured him with the information of what he’d do to each sibling in turn.
“Yes, she is!” his voice broke. “I was helpless! I thought I wouldn’t be, but I was! And she’s a baby! I was almost thirteen!” Tears streamed down his face, as he pushed her again. “I was almost thirteen, and I was wrong!”
Reference to a similar line spoken in every All the Wrong Questions book.
Chapter Ten - in which Nick spills some Bitter Tea
Title is a reference to Kit’s quote, “Tea should be as bitter as wormwood and sharp as a two-edged sword.”
“Sure.” Nick said. “We can be Volunteers who want to recruit our innocent little baby. They’ll believe that.”
A reference to VFD recruitment tactics.
“Isa had a huge collection of what me and Duncan called ‘goth poetry.’” Quigley said, smiling. “She likes to recite, too. Verbal stim.”
Isadora (and all the Quagmires in my headcanons) is Autistic. Nick has ADHD and also stims with recitation.
“It’s not. Snicket’s real. And he…” Nick shivered. “Let’s just say he’s definitely real. Maybe even still alive.”
“He’s real and he fathered my oldest sister.”
That’s when they heard the crash, and Esme’s scream. They all fell silent for a second, and then Nick let Quigley go.
An intentional combination of the Book version of this scene - where they decide to warn Esme- and the Netflix - where she traps herself.
There was a flash of recognition, and then she smirked. “Well, well, well.” she said. “If it isn’t Beatrice’s little angel.” Nick’s hand flew to his necklace, as his glare intensified. “Fancy seeing you here, I thought you were supposed to be smashed at the bottom of the mountains.”
Something Olaf called him in Chapter Fourteen of Part Two; Nick was very close to Beatrice, whom Olaf and Esme both despise, so you can bet they took a lot of their anger on her out on him.
“Fancy seeing you here.” Nick said. “I thought you were supposed to be somewhere in the second circle of hell, but I guess you can’t have everything, can you?”
In Dante’s Inferno, the second circle of hell is the circle of Lust.
“Why he’s here doesn’t matter.” Nick said, and then he smiled very coldly and said, “What matters is you’re our hostage now, so I’d suggest you shut the fuck up and do what we tell you to do.”
Was going to make this more obvious in the text but decided against it, so here’s a fun fact: this is something that was said to Nick during is captivity. He’s getting a lot of joy out of saying it to Esme.
Chapter Eleven - in which Carmelita gets adopted
Nick took a deep breath, and then said, his voice breaking, “Don’t act like I don’t know what you’d do to her. If you have laid a single fucking hand on my sister, there will be hell to pay.”
Once again, a reference to Olaf torturing Nick with information on what he planned to do to the other Baudelaires.
“Why are you recruiting us, too?” Colette asked, peering from the net. “We already work for you.”
Changed from Fernald to Hugo, Colette and Kevin in order to explain their absence in TGG.
Esme glared at him. “We don’t need that ugly girl. Having an infant servant was fun.”
TRIGGER WARNING: CSA MENTION
Esme knows about Olaf’s attraction to Lilac/Violet and is jealous, instead of being, you know, disgusted and horrified.
Carmelita just smiled and gave Esme a hug. She turned towards Olaf, starting forwards, and just then, Nick thrust Solitude into Violet’s arms and raced ahead of her, pushing her back.
Even though Nick hates Carmelita, he doesn’t want her suffering like he did.
Tumblr media
Chapter Twelve - in which Lilac is a Disaster Lesbian
“No- she can curl up inside a diving helmet! Aye! The helmets have a tiny door on the neck just for such a purpose! Aye! I’ve seen it done!”
Though this doesn’t happen in-fic, this did happen in the original book lol.
“Actually,” Nick sighed, laying his head on Klaus’s shoulder as Soli wriggled around to try and get a good view of the captain, “He’s the researcher, I’m an… well, I…”
Nick’s having an identity crisis brought on by the PTSD; he’s not sure who he is anymore.
“Come on, Lilac will be fine in a minute.” Nick said, elbowing Klaus. “She just needs to time to adjust. You know. Like Sappho.”
Sappho - a famous lesbian poet.
Chapter Thirteen - in which I bang my head against a table because I have to pay attention to Widdershins
“No, no, we do!” Fiona looked ecstatic, and Lilac let out a squeal as Fiona grabbed her hands. “One of our previous crewmembers, the one who later turned out to be stealing information on VFD headquarters, she stockpiled a shitton- oh, sorry, I mean a lot of coffee.”
The “spy” may-or-may-not have been an anti-VFD Ellington Feint...
“Now, I’m sure you have lots of questions.” Fiona said as they walked.  “Definitely.” Nick said. “Number one, how d-”
A reference to the meme/quote from “The Office” (US) 4x11:
Tumblr media
Chapter Fourteen - in which the Baudelaires encounter a Great Unknown
“Let Violet work on the wheel,” Klaus suggested, “And maybe Fiona can help Lilac with the telegraph.”
These kids are gonna get Lilac a girlfriend if it kills them.
“Don’t worry,” the captain replied, “We’ll find a spouse for the others, too! Aye! Perhaps we’ll find your long-lost brother, Fiona! He’s much older, of course, and he’s been missing for years, but if Klaus can locate the Sugar Bowl he can probably find him! Aye! He’s a charming man, so one of the girls would probably fall in love with him, and then we could have a double wedding! Aye! Right here in the main hall of the Queequeg! Aye! I would be happy to officiate! Aye!” “Okay, well,” Nick said, as everyone stared at each other incredibly uncomfortably and he finally made his way to stand beside Klaus, “That’s not going to happen, for a number of reasons. First of all-”
First of all, Klaus is gay.
Second of all, Fiona is gay.
Third of all, Lilac and Fiona are the ones flirting.
Fourth, everyone’s too young to get married.
Fifth, Nick is aromantic.
Sixth, “your older long-lost brother” is not a good phrase to throw around to a group of children who’ve been trying to escape a man who tried to marry Lilac.
Seventh, your children are not fucking prizes to hand out???
Eighth, what the fuck dude.
Chapter Fifteen - in which Lilac and Fiona are Gay as Hell
“I mean, you could call them King stropharia. I just like the scientific names. They’re fun to say.” “Oh, that’s completely valid.” Lilac smiled. “I learned Russian when I was younger just because the boys read Anna Karenina and all the names were fun to say.”
Autistic verbal stims!!
“Lentinula Edodes.” Fiona said, smiling at some fungus growing on a hardwood log. “Also known as Shiitake Mushrooms.” “Shiitake?” “Don’t start.” Fiona giggled.
It sounds vaguely like “shit.”
Lilac and Fiona returned to the dorms very late, arms linked together as they chatted about a book they’d both enjoyed, about another sugar bowl whose contents were actually very well known.
A reference to We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson.
Nick, meanwhile, was passed out on a chair near the door, almost having fallen over; Lilac recognized this position quickly, from the many times he and Klaus or Violet would sit at the bottom of the stairs waiting for their parents to come home late at night. “He was waiting for us.”
Nick was waiting up to talk to Lilac, probably to tell her about the Snicket Thing.
She carried him to a bunk, lowering him onto it. “Go back to being five years old, okay?” Lilac whispered, reaching over to grab a blanket. “We’ll lock you in the closet again and then make ice cream towers.”
“Lock you in the closet” is a reference to the one-shot.
Ice Cream towers are a reference to the prologue of part two.
Lilac sighed and pulled the blanket over him. “You’ll be okay. You want me to sing?”
All the references to Lilac singing someone to sleep are reference to the song “Asleep”, performed by Emily Browning, Movie!Violet’s actress.
“Good or bad cry?” Lilac shut her eyes. “Both.” she admitted.
Chef’s Salad.
Chapter Sixteen - in which the Crew goes swimming
They heard what sounded like a very suspicious watery noise, and Nick said, “If this submarine is flooding, I’ll take one for the team and die first.”
Reference to this line from Part One, Chapter Four: “Do you think if one of us died, the rest’d get transferred somewhere else?” Nick asked, hanging upside-down from the rotting couch. “I’ll take one for the team.”
“Nobody’s dying.” Lilac sighed, not looking him in the eye.
Nick’s lowkey suicidal remark scared her quite a bit.
“How about some of us stay here and do more research,” Violet suggested, squeezing Nick’s hand, “And the rest of us look for the Sugar Bowl? I can stay with Nick and try to work with the submarine. Nick, maybe you can dig through books and see if you can find anything on the Gorgonian Grotto, or the Great Unknown, and read it to me while I work.” [...] He’d found something that seemed to be filed under the Great Unknown, but it was probably misfiled as it just talked about a tearoom and a roadster.
Probably my most blatant reference to Movie!Klaus’s actor, Liam Aiken, narrating the All the Wrong Questions audiobooks.
“Ekab!” Sunny said, which meant, “I can stay here and cook!”
“Ekab” is “bake” spelled backwards.
“I’m sure someone did, aye.” Widdershins waved his hand. “Whoever got assigned the job. Perhaps R, or her daughter, they may have been nearby at the time. Or Larry, aye! We weren’t told about who was in charge of you, just that we needed to document information and track the Sugar Bowl!”
A reference to Jacquelyn (the Duchess of Winnipeg, making her either R or her daughter) and Larry Your-Waiter following the Baudelaires in the Netflix series.
“Don’t you worry, Nicholas! Everything’s for the Greater Good!"
While Widdershins usually calls him Nick, he slips up here, much like Poe always does; Nick hates being referred to as Nicholas.
“Besides, VFD wouldn’t abandon you! Aye! You’d be a great volunteer! You’re a dedicated researcher! Aye! You’re a saint! Aye! You’re an angel! Aye! You’re a-” Nick stared at him in horror, and then said, “I have to go!” and took off running.
Nick was already put on edge by this victim-blaming conversation,  the revelation that multiple people could’ve helped him, his siblings leaving, the VFD cult stuff, and Widdershins’s constant bullshit, but the use of the word “angel” sets him off the edge; it reminds him too much of being referred to as “Beatrice’s Little Angel.”
“Okay, so, I found a box of rubber bands.” Lilac sighed, sitting atop a chest. “And half a gun, a broken mirror, what might be a microphone, and a scattered notebook with sketches of some kind of snake.” Solitude peered over her shoulder, her arms full of bottles. “I don’t recognize it.” she said sadly. “Also, it’s not a snake. It’s got legs, see there?”
Lilac found sketches of the Bombinating Beast.
Chapter Seventeen - in which Violet doodles
“Precisely.” Lilac said. “It’s something that’s not a choice at all. Our Mother used to give us Hobson’s Choices. She’d say, ‘Lilac, you can dust the furniture, or I can play polka music all night.’”
A reference to Lemony Snicket’s dislike of polka music in File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents.
“She’d do that with the others, too.” Lilac recalled. “Violet could clean her room or we’d stand in the doorway and sing Row Your Boat, and Nick could be nice to guests or be made to read that third book about those kids in a maze, and Sunny could have a bath or a pink dress.”
A reference to The Maze Runner: The Death Cure by James Dashner. I hated the entire series, but the third book was the worst.
TRIGGER WARNING: Following references for Chapter Seventeen discuss Nick’s self-harm in detail.
She ran a hand over her ponytail, and then she said, “Nick, I will be right back, but you have to promise not to lock the door.”
She is scared he’ll lock her out and continue self-harming.
As soon as she was out of Nick’s sightline, she buried her head in her hands, struggling to remain calm. Don’t freak out. Don’t freak out. Help him now, freak out later. You need to help, Vi. Just keep moving.
Violet knows freaking out in front of Nick will just make him feel worse
Do the scary thing first, get scared later.
“No come in!” Sunny shouted. “Surprise!”
Sunny’s preparing Violet’s cake.
“Nodnaba,” Sunny said, and Violet heard her sliding from the counter. “He and Widdershins stepped out a moment; they’ll be back soon.”
“Nodnaba” is “abandon” spelled backwards.
Widdershins and Phil have “stepped out”, and either right now or very soon will be abandoning ship.
“Crayola,” Sunny said, which meant, “There’s a whole box of markers right here, for writing labels on cannisters. Can you bring them back when you’re done?”
Very obvious reference to Crayola art supplies.
“Alzatadispalle,” Sunny said, which meant, “Eh, fine, I don’t care about this submarine much anyway.”
“Alzata di spalle” is Italian for a shrug.
But she swirled the marker- a light blue color- around her brother’s arm, until there was just a jumble of color. Then, an idea finally coming to her, she took a black marker and drew some squiggles above it, mirroring the shape of their Uncle’s prized snake, the Incredibly Deadly Viper. It felt like a lifetime since they’d seen him.
A reference to Ink swimming through the sea at the end.
Violet took his hands, squeezing them softly. “When you feel… feel like you want to scratch without an itch, I want you to take these markers and draw where you… where you want to hurt. Do that instead. It should help. And if it doesn’t, I want you to tell me, okay?”
This is a legitimate coping mechanism for self-harm; drawing on skin with pens or markers.
Violet waited until he met her eyes, and she admitted, “About two years ago, I asked Father why he had pen drawings on his arm.”
Bertrand dealt with depression and self-harming tendencies, as well. Violet was the only kid who knew, and only because she asked.
Chapter Eighteen - in which Solitude catches a cold
“I found a newspaper scrap.” Lilac said. “I, uh, read a bit. Maybe we could discuss what we’ve read while we eat.”
She read the stuff about Fernald starting the fire.
“Like… ‘poached egg’ means ‘half the battle.’” Klaus said. “Remember when Nick used that metaphor and we punched him for it?”
A reference to a tangent Lemony went on in this section of The Grim Grotto.
Soli nodded, passing Klaus the wasabi and Lilac two cannisters, and soon they put on their diving helmets, suiting up for their return journey. Solitude hmmed as Fiona helped her put her helmet back on, saying, “Sand’s inside, I think.”
The spores.
“Senso-orario,” Sunny said, which meant something like, “I fell asleep in the kitchen, and when I woke up, Phil and Widdershins still hadn’t returned, and now I can’t find them anywhere.”
“In Senso orario” is an Italian term for “clockwise.” “Widdershins” means “counterclockwise.”
Chapter Nineteen - in which Olaf is a dick
“Ha ha ha heepa-heepa ho!” came a villainous laugh from the hallway, and within a few moments, Count Olaf entered, dressed in a similar suit of slippery material, only with a portrait of Edgar Guest instead of Herman Melville. “Tee hee tort tort tort!” “No, no,” Violet looked up, giving him a glare. “Don’t do that.”
A reference to me not wanting to write Olaf’s villain laughter for like three chapters.
He stepped closer, putting a hand on Fiona’s chin. Lilac gasped and ran forwards, slapping his arm away. “You must be Fiona.” he said. “Why, you’re all grown up! The last time I saw you, I was trying to throw thumbtacks into your cradle.”  Nick shot up his head, giving Olaf a glare that could have killed him. “Get away from her!”
OLAF 👏 IS 👏 A 👏 CREEP
Lilac and Violet glanced at each other, and then around, trying to spot an escape route. This, however, was a mistake; Olaf figured out very quickly what they were planning, and before they could do anything, he reached forwards and ripped Nick out of Klaus’s grasp.
Once again, Olaf knows the kind of effect he has on Nick, and how protective of him the others are, and uses this to his advantage.
“My henchperson will simply torture the information out of you.” He smirked down at Nick, who was shaking uncontrollably. “Isn’t that right?” Nick didn’t respond, barely keeping himself from sobbing.
Nick’s been captured again, with his siblings. Olaf is taunting him, heavily implying that he’s going to follow through on his threat to torture Nick’s siblings in front of him before killing him.
“Umore,” Sunny said, which roughly translated to, “God, that’s a mood.”
“Umore” is an Italian word for “mood.”
“What did we tell you, you little beast?” she hissed. “You can’t get away from us.”
Most of Nick’s worst trauma came from “punishments” from when he tried to escape, which is why he panics whenever they’re about to be caught.
“Holy fuck,” said a girl at the oars, “What the hell is wrong with you all?”
Not really a reference but I just want to point out that none of these recruits have any context for this so they’re probably just. seeing all these crazy shits saying whatever they want
“I’m getting tired of this.” Olaf said, waving his sword and gesturing at Nick. “You all get to see the first brig, it’s deluxe, as it comes with a noose. I think we should put this one in the second brig for-”
A reference to Netflix’s The Vile Village: Part Two.
“I think,” Olaf said, pressing his sword against Nick’s throat, “We should put those two little rebels in with our little Nick.” Nick finally started to cry, tears streaming down his face as he almost collapsed, and Violet shouted, “You bastard! Leave them alone!”
Once again, Olaf’s planning on following through on the threats that scared Nick so badly. Violet, the only one who knows about what Olaf threatened him with, is the first to start panicking.
Chapter Twenty - in which Lilac leads a jailbreak
The title itself is a reference to Chapter Sixteen of Part One: in which Solitude leads a jailbreak.
Her younger brother finally pulled away, but only to run off to the corner of the small brig, where he leaned over and vomited onto the floor, barely keeping his own balance. Lilac jumped to her feet and dragged him towards the wall, as he shook more and clung to her arm. [...] Nick shuddered beside her, and he finally choked out, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”
Nick knows exactly what Olaf’s threatening, and he’s falling back into a pure traumatized state; he doesn’t think they can escape, he thinks he’s going to die while Olaf torments his siblings, and nothing is going to stop him.
“I…” Lilac slid onto a hard bench, where Nick sat beside her and refused to stop clinging to her side. “I glanced at the locks on our way in. They’re ordinary enough pin-tumbler locks, so- hold on a moment. Nick, Nick, please-”
A reference to a repeated phrase in When Did You See Her Last?
And then Lilac quietly sang, “Pretty when the window blows, I love my tree in autumn… Like I love my tree in summer, like I love my tree in winter… They put me in a room, and I thought of you in autumn…” She shut her eyes, humming the next line, and then she picked up again. Fiona kept working on the lock, and Nick kept clinging to Lilac, terrified to let go, and she kept singing. “Pretty when you sing me a new song in autumn, or a new song in winter, or a new song in summer…”
The song is “Pretty When The Wind Blows”, sung by Emily Browning, Movie!Violet’s actress.
The line she hums is one that would definitely not cheer Nick up - “And I’m sad I won’t see you again.”
Violet leapt in front of her siblings, and Klaus reached out to grab Sunny, who honestly didn’t look too worried.
Sunny is friends with Fernald, she knows he won’t do anything to them.
“We could pretend the Great Unknown showed up and is about to eat everyone.” Violet said. “I’m sorry, do you have a small black statue that can imitate its call?” Fernald said. “Why would I-”
A reference to Violet and Klaus’s escape in Netflix’s The Grim Grotto: Part Two.
A reference to the Bombinating Beast statue from All the Wrong Questions.
“Smelled like horseradish.” Sunny nodded.
Sunny, the chef, would remember.
Chapter Twenty-One - in which Fiona is Volatile
“I-” Nick stuttered. “I know TS Eliot.”  “Macavity,” Sunny said, which meant, “Wasn’t that from your musical phase?”
A reference to a song/character from Cats the Musical, based on a poetry book by TS Eliot.
“I’ll make this simple.” Olaf smiled. “I could torture you until you tell me, or we can trade information- or a lack of information, if you so prefer.” Then, in a sickly sweet voice, he called, “Nick?”  [...] “We don’t make deals with bastards.” Lilac crossed her arms. Olaf smirked, eyeing her in a way that made her incredibly uncomfortable. “Interesting choice of words, my dear Lilac.” Nick sat up, horrified, as Olaf took a step closer to his oldest sister, and then he shouted, “It’s in the kitchen!”
TRIGGER WARNING: CSA MENTION
Nick is terrified of Olaf hurting/assaulting Lilac, as well as outing her as Snicket’s daughter to everyone.
Sunny sighed and said, “Cruciatu,” which meant, “Can they kill us now?”
“Cruciatu” comes from the latin verb “crucio”, meaning “to torture.”
“I’ll be fine. If we get caught, we have a potential escape plan that involves a seaside town, a train, and a vineyard.” Fiona said. “And releasing a bunch of wild new recruits to perform chaos.”
Firstly, a reference to the Thistle of the Valley train that goes out of Stain’d-by-the-Sea.
Secondly, a reference to Netflix’s The Grim Grotto: Part Two.
As she moved slowly towards the controls, Violet at her heels, Nick curled up on his chair, and he whispered to himself, “But they were fucked up in their turn, by fools in old-style hats and coats… who half the time were soppy-stern…” He hugged Solitude very close, shutting his eyes and trying not to think about everyone who had left. “And half at one another’s throats.”
The poem later recited by Olaf in The End - “This Be the Verse” by Philip Larkin.
“Mr Poe,” Klaus said, looking from the taxi to Poe, “Have you ever heard of a Hobson’s choice?”
“You can either get in the taxi, or go with Mr Poe.”
The woman smiled at Lilac, as if she’d asked the right question.
Another All the Wrong Questions reference.

Chapter Twenty-Two - in which Kit cannot drive
“So,” Nick said, kicking his feet and glancing down at Soli, “Are we in agreement that we are ‘fucked’, a word which here means, ‘holy shit’?”
Obvious reference to Lemony Snicket’s way of defining words.
They looked to each other, thinking hard. “Well,” Lilac finally said, “In the few minutes we’ve known her, Kit Snicket has broken at least nine safety laws, driven into a hedge, and seems intent on recruiting us to spy for a secret organization.” “I like her.” Violet decided. “Me, too.” Klaus added. “Same!” Sunny said.
A reference to similar lines in Netflix’s The Penultimate Peril: Part One.
“Mother said she purchased it during intermission.” Lilac said. “She said it was the most interesting time she’d ever had at the opera, and she never wanted to forget it.” “I’m sure it was interesting.” Nick muttered, curling up a little.
Nick knows about the murder.
She moved behind Lilac, tying back her hair for her. “You look just like your father.” Kit sighed, not noticing the flinch Nick made as he reached for some food to pass to Soli. [...] “Really?” Lilac asked, smiling a little. She’d never told that she looked like her parents.
She looks like Lemony.
Violet and Nick shared a quiet look, one that their siblings didn’t quite understand, but the two of them read perfectly.
Violet and Nick, after Widdershins’s shit, are very anti-VFD.
“That’s fine.” Lilac assured her, reaching for a cup. “I like my coffee bitter.” “That is surprising.” Kit said absent-mindedly, still looking through papers.
Considering Lilac is Lemony’s daughter, and Lemony doesn’t like coffee (All the Wrong Questions), this comes as a surprise to Kit.
“That’s why you’ll be together.” Kit said, putting her hand gently over Nick’s. “I’ve received reports on your progress, Baudelaires, and while I haven’t been able to reach you, I have seen that you take care of your own.” [...] Kit gave them all a reluctant and sad smile, and then repeated, almost to herself, “You Baudelaires take care of your own.”
A reference to a line from When Did You See Her Last?: “We Snickets take care of our own.”
Chapter Twenty-Three - in which the Baudelaires enter the Hotel Denouement
Nick bit his lip, thinking about everything. VFD. The secrets. The Sugar Bowl. That reminded him of a book Lilac read him. “We’ll live on the moon.” he said quietly, his voice almost blank. “And we’ll have flying horses.” God, he wished he was still young enough to believe that.
A direct reference to We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson.
When it was time to go in, Klaus and Lilac immediately threw their hands over their ears.
Overstimulation.
Exactly six bells were ringing- the extra bell, 371, 547, 674, 781 and 954.
371 - Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Education and Social Sciences.
547 - DDC for Organic Chemistry; Colette’s mission involves her sneaking in here.
674 - DDC for Lumber processing.
781 - DDC for Jazz is 781.65; Ellington’s career has something to do with jazz.
954 - DDC for India and neighboring countries; it’s an Indian restaurant.
Chapter Twenty-Four - in which the first three bells ring
The woman smiled, and while Lilac did not recognize the white coat or black uniform underneath, she did recognize the woman standing in front of her, even though she wasn’t bending in any unusual positions. [...] “You see, I am a brilliant chemist, as you can tell from my outfit, but I’m afraid some of these fumes have gone to my head, and I’m having trouble recognizing some words here.”
A reference to Cleo Knight, the brilliant chemist from All the Wrong Questions, who only wears black-and-white to honor the family ink business.
“I told you they’d judge us.” Kevin said. “I should’ve just called up my old gangmate.” “She wouldn’t have gotten here in time, she lives on the other side of-” Hugo began.
A reference to the theory that Kevin is Kevin Old from File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents; his “gangmate” would be Florence Smith, who had a special interest in reading and thus have a large vocabulary.
Lilac narrowed her eyes. She recognized the chemical compounds- her and Violet had gone through a celebrity crush phase on a chemist about three or four years before- but she was having trouble figuring out what they combined into. “What is this for?”
Another reference to Cleo Knight.
He doodled the shape of a pegasus on his arm, beside the moon. He remembered that book. What else had Merricat thought would be on the moon? Rose petals. He could draw roses next.
Once again, a direct reference to We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson.
“Can I help you, concierge?” Hal asked. “Um.” Nick froze a moment, panic clutching his chest. You’ve been caught! You’ve been caught! You’ve been caught!
Once again, Nick is immediately put into a panic by being caught, due to his trauma from his captivity.
Chapter Twenty-Five - in which the next three bells are answered
The door swung open just as Klaus stepped back, and he saw Charles exit, blinking over at him in a bathrobe. “Sorry,” he said, “I was hoping I wouldn’t have to call someone just to take me down the hall, but my eyesight isn’t what it used to be, and I’ve recently developed a phobia of optometrists.”
This entire scene is based on a scene that had to be deleted from the Netflix adaptation due to Rhys Darby (Charles) being stranded because of a hurricane during filming. It can be read here.
“Don’t step on the crack, or you’ll fall and break your back!” Soli sang, laughing a little as she jumped down to Room 781, trying to imitate Babbitt’s hops.
While this is a slight variation on a popular children’s game song, it’s specifically a reference to the scene between Ducky and Littlefoot in The Land Before Time.
The woman looked at her very, very carefully, and then said, “It’s alright. That’s a fake, anyway.” “Fake what?” Solitude turned to look at the statue, as the woman knelt to put it back. “It looks like a snake, but there are those little claw-shapes there, suggesting hands.” “Well, it’s a replica, made by my foster-brother-in-law’s sister-in-law. Just in case we need to switch out.” “Switch out what?” The woman glanced down at Solitude, smiling and brushing the young girl’s hair back; it had fallen a little from her hat. “It’s a long story, and you probably have work to do. I’m sure you have more important things to get to.”
The woman is clearly Ellington Feint from All the Wrong Questions; she is still very into Jazz music (hence her room), and may-or-may-not have access to the Bombinating Beast statue.
Her foster-brother-in-law (Kellar)’s sister-in-law is Ornette Lost, implying Ornette married Lizzie Haines.
Solitude blinked. This woman couldn’t know her; Soli didn’t recognize anything about her, except the record currently playing. She hesitated, and then pointed to the record, saying, “That’s a pretty song.” The woman smiled slightly. “It is, isn’t it? Do you know the name?” “Do you?”
The song is “Solitude” by Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong; aka Ellington’s song in All the Wrong Questions.
“Really?” the woman sighed. “Okay, sweetheart, you run along. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to find my wife before she can fistfight Geraldine Julienne in the lobby.”
Her wife is Moxie Mallahan, a journalist who would definitely get kicked out of the hotel for fighting Geraldine Julienne.
“Plumber,” Sunny said, which meant, “Yeah, but she writes those shitty articles from The Daily Punctilio about us, so she deserves it.”  “I thought that was Ms Poe.” Soli said confusedly.
A reference to Katherine Plumber, the journalist from the musical Newsies.
A reference to Eleanora Poe and Geraldine Julienne being combined into one character in the Netflix adaptation.
“Klaus Louis Baudelaire, are you suggesting that we have not been having a good time?” Nick said.
Klaus’s middle name is taken from his actor, Louis Hynes.
“I mean,” Nick said, considering, “The whole ‘VFD’ thing totally explains that weird-ass letter they sent us from Europe.” “What?” Lilac narrowed her eyes. “You remember?” Nick said. “When they went to Europe for, like, two weeks, and sent us that fucked-up letter about how they loved us and that even if life sucked we’d always have each other and all that bullshit?” Lilac, Violet and Klaus groaned. “Oh, fuck, you’re right!” Klaus said. “That makes so much sense now.” Lilac said.
A reference to “The Letter That Never Came” scene from the 2004 film.
Chapter Twenty-Six - in which the harpoon is fired
The Baudelaires sighed, and then Nick said, “Yeah, a little suspicious, isn’t it? Your parents burned to death the same night VFD saw fit to drag you all out.”
Highkey reference to the theory that Volunteers kill the parents who don’t want to give their children up for recruitment.
Violet nodded grimly, while Lilac and Klaus gave Nick careful looks, and Solitude and Sunny gasped quietly. Dewey scanned him with his eyes. “You would get along with Ernest.” he said finally.
The implication here is that Ernest joined the firestarters partially due to speculation about their parents’ murder, or at the very least, Ernest is incredibly critical of the way VFD is run.
“You can’t rely on associates.” Count Olaf said. “More comrades have failed me than I can count. Why, Hooky and what’s-her-face double-crossed me just yesterday and let you brats escape, and then stole my submarine!” “Good for her.” Sunny said, almost unfazed, too furious at Olaf to feel much fear at the moment.
A reference to the meme from Arrested Development:

“How do you know us?” Lilac asked, putting an arm around Violet. The man looked at her sadly. “That’s the wrong question.”
A reference to All the Wrong Questions.
Chapter Twenty-Seven - in which Nick finally spills
“Diviso?” Sunny asked, which meant, “What if they try to split us up?”
“Diviso” is a Latin adjective meaning “divided.”
Chapter Twenty-Eight - in which Everything Goes to Shit
The title is a reference to many of my other fanfictions: In the Stranger Things Superhero AU fic Shatter: Pirouette in the Dark, Chapter Nine was titled “Everything Goes to Shit”, and Chapter Thirty was titled “I already used the title ‘Everything goes to shit’ but I need to use it again”, and people thought that was so funny that it became a running joke in basically all of my fics.
“Lilac Emily Baudelaire.” “Violet Malina Baudelaire.” “Nick Liam Baudelaire.” “Klaus Louis Baudelaire.” “Solitude Theodora Baudelaire.” “Sunday Theo-dora Bau’elaire!”
The first four children have their middle names from their original actors- Emily Browning, Malina Weissman, Liam Aiken and Louis Hynes.
Solitude and Sunny’s middle names are both Theodora, to further confuse people as to what the S stands for. See: S Theodora Markson, All the Wrong Questions
Nick took a moment to respond. “E-Explorer?”
Identity crisis! Getting a bit better though.
“He murdered…” Lilac bit her lip. “He murdered Jacques Snicket!”
Lilac’s realizing here that that was her uncle.
They all turned to look at Olaf, who didn’t even look uncomfortable. They wanted him to be uncomfortable. They wanted him to be scared.
A reference to a line from Shouldn’t You Be In School?: Someone cleared their throat and we both looked back at a tall, masked figure, watching us calmly. Too calmly, I thought. I wanted him worried.
Sunny and Soli were crying, too. “Audit,” Sunny said, meaning, “People never listen to children.”
“Audit” comes from the Latin verb “audio”, meaning “to listen.”
They stood up, with Nick lifting Solitude and Violet moving to lift Sunny, and then they walked back together, holding their heads high and ignoring the stares and whispers and chills. They sat again in the front row, still holding onto each other and refusing to let go.
Tumblr media
“Bene?” Sunny asked. “Is that good?”
“Bene” is the Latin word for “good.”
The elevator shot down to the basement, and as it did, Nick and Violet leapt onto Olaf, pummeling him with their fists and trying to rip Justice Strauss away. Olaf shouted, and Lilac and Klaus immediately jumped help, managing to pull Justice Strauss out of his grip as Soli and Sunny screeched and started biting at his ankles, with Babbitt jumping over to the judge so they didn’t get squashed. The siblings had been waiting for this a long while, and they weren’t going to waste time.
a reference to the original shitpost that inspired this au.
Chapter Twenty-Nine - in which Sunny turns to Arson
“Alexandria,” Sunny said, which meant, “Unless she has a backup, you son of a bitchass motherfucker.”
A reference to the Library of Alexandria.
Tumblr media
Chapter Thirty - in which the Baudelaires have had ENOUGH
“And the only fucking reason,” Lilac said, sitting up and grimacing as her stomach wound flared up, “That we haven’t thrown you overboard already is that we might need bait to catch larger fish to eat.”
A slight reference to “Shipwrecked” by The Gothic Archies, which was inspired by The End.
“Cazzo,” Sunny said, which meant, “Which won’t be long, dickhead.”
“Cazzo” is an Italian curse word.
Chapter Thirty-One - in which Nick is not taking Ishmael’s bullshit
“You cannot force me to wear white.” Lilac said.
A reference both to Lilac being incredibly goth, and to her trauma from the Marvelous Marriage, where she was forced into a wedding dress.
Nick said. “Listen up, you- someone cover Friday’s ears.” Klaus reached forwards and slammed his hands over Friday’s ears. “Alright. Listen up, you bitchass motherfucker.”
I’VE COME TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT, SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG IS A BITCHASS MOTHERFUCKER-
“I was drugged up once, it’s not fun.”
I left this to be interpreted in separate ways: one, like Duncan guessed in Part Two: Chapter Twenty, Nick was drugged as part of his torture. Two, like Klaus said in Chapter Twenty-Four, Classical Literature Camp was wild.
“Yeah, it’s not.” Violet agreed.
Reference to her being drugged in The Hostile Hospital.
Chapter Thirty-Two - in which the Baudelaires make camp
“I feel like we weren’t supposed to do that.” Violet said, as they walked away from the beach.
A reference to me going very off-book.
Sunny nodded, as they placed them in front of her. “Crusoe,” Sunny said, which meant, “We can drink the milk inside, so long as we don’t allow it to ferment, and I can make us toasted coconut flakes, if you give me some room around the fire.”
A reference to Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe.
“Sandstone,” Sunny said, meaning, “Can someone get me something like a bowl?”
A reference to her first line in the Netflix series: “Can you find a rock that’s not sandstone?”
They were silent again, and then Lilac said, “Um, speaking- speaking of hard things to tell- oh.”
She was going to tell them about her biological father.
Nick’s face fell. “You’re right, we don’t wanna kidnap.”
Don’t wanna emulate VFD.
Chapter Thirty-Three - in which the Baudelaires begin to heal
“Wait.” Friday narrowed her eyes. “Bears don’t live on beaches.” “I know!” Klaus laughed. “Shakespeare had no geographical knowledge whatsoever.”
Once again, a reference to a famous stage direction from William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale.
“Yeet!” Violet shouted, as she threw herself beside her siblings, and after a second, Lilac flopped over, too.
A reference to the vine/meme.
Chapter Thirty-Four - in which Friday goes off-book
“Kit Snicket?” Lilac shouted. “No, Kit Kittredge.” Solitude sighed.
A reference to the American Girl doll, Kit Kittredge.
Friday sighed and stood up, taking a few steps forwards. She looked at her mother, and her mother’s outstretched arms, and then out at the crowd. Watching her. Waiting for her to listen. And then she stepped back. “No,” she said. “No, I don’t think so.”
A quick rundown of Friday’s mentality here.
Chapter Thirty-Five - in which the Baudelaires plan a mutiny
Klaus nodded. “Cinderella. East of the Sun and West of the Moon. The Juniper Tree. Little Match Girl- might skip that one, actually. Do you want to try to read it?”
Skipping “The Little Match Girl” because she dies at the end.
“Suit yourself.” said Olaf. “But you know what? I bet those islanders won’t let you back onto Olaf-Land, now that you’ve recruited one of their own.”
Intentional use of the word “recruit” here, just to taunt them.
Chapter Thirty-Six - in which we go surprisingly more off-book
“I know this.” Nick was the first one to move, stepping towards a tall fish statue, the red paint slightly peeling. He shook quite a bit as he ran a hand over it, and Klaus rushed over to put an arm around him. “We were trapped in here. How… how did we fit in here? Klaus, how did we fit?”
A reference to the fact the Red Herring statue can be seen in the arboretum in the Netflix adaptation.
Nick turned to Klaus, eyes wide. “We did fit? We were in here? I didn’t make that up?”
A very lowkey reference to We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson; Uncle Julian sometimes doubts the traumatic arsenic incident that paralyzed him and killed the rest of the family really happened.
Chapter Thirty-Seven - in which Lilac has a costume change
“Why would I-” Violet asked as Lilac grabbed a knife, drew it up to one of her braids, and chopped it off. Violet leapt to her feet and gasped, while Nick’s dropped his marker in shock. Soli and Sunny let out tiny shrieks, as Friday stared and Klaus said, “Lilac!” “I need to think.” Lilac said, and she grabbed another braid and chopped it off. “And this hair is getting in my way!” “Lilac-” Klaus started forwards, but she held up a hand to stop him, and then grabbed her loose hair and started cutting. Her braids fell to the floor of the tree, as she kept cutting to get rid of the strands that could reach her face. Within a few moments, her hair was cut even shorter than the boys’, with only a small, thin braid on the side of her head.
Firstly, a reference to the fact the dramatic haircut is my favorite trope of all time.
Secondly, specifically and heavily inspired by the scene in IT: Chapter One when Beverly Marsh cuts her hair.
“Oh, fuck yeah! Deus ex Rana to the rescue!” Klaus said, rushing over first.
“Rana” is the Latin word for “frog.”
Chapter Thirty-Eight - in which the Medusoid causes a ruckus
“Hey!” Lilac shouted, stepping forwards. “What in the nine circles of hell is going on here?”
A reference to Dante’s Inferno.
“So are you, my dear.” Olaf said. He eyed her with his shiny eyes. “Why’d you do that to your hair? It makes you look much less pretty.”
Unfortunately, another reference to Beverly’s haircut in IT: Chapter One: this was the response it elicited from her abusive father.
Chapter Thirty-Nine - in which man hands on misery to man
Solitude looked to her, narrowing her eyes, a seemingly insignificant memory floating back to her. “Question mark.” she said, “Beast.”
When she realizes some stuff about Ellington’s statue.
Kit looked at her, and Lilac saw in her eyes that her choice not to take the apple had nothing to do with her child.
TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE
It’s often theorized in canon, and confirmed in this fic, that Kit was suicidal, which was why she decided not to take the apple.
Chapter Forty - in which the Baudelaires go on together
“We didn’t.” Sunny said, putting a hand on Lilac’s leg. “We have each other.”
A callback to “We lost everything.” “Except each other.”
“We don’t need to escape.” Violet said. She turned to Lilac. “Do you remember that musical, based on that movie, based on that movie, based on that book-”
The song they proceed to sing, “Finale”, is from the musical The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which is based on the Disney movie, which takes a lot of inspiration from the 1939 film, which was based on the Victor Hugo novel.
Also I made a gifset with those lyrics and I’m still very proud of it.
“I know.” Violet nodded. “I… I guess we can’t lock you in the closet anymore, huh?” Her smile only lasted a few seconds. “I’m sorry. Just trying to cheer you up.”
A reference to the one-shot.
They never told Bea she had the same shine in her eyes as her father. She didn’t need to know.
Bea is biologically Olaf’s daughter.
Solitude found all the herpetology books, which Klaus and Friday read to her. She furnished Babbitt’s habitat, and let her hair grow out so that she could braid it.
Just like her big sister Lilac.
“A statue normally wouldn’t mean anything,” Violet had told Friday, “But, well, Nick found some interesting accounts, didn’t you, Nick?” “Li’s Dad is a wordy motherfucker,” Nick said, tossing a file that had been slipped into a bowl of honeydew melons, “But yeah, I did.”
Huge reference to All the Wrong Questions.
Tumblr media
Chapter Forty-One / Epilogue - in which Beatrice leaves the island
“Well, maybe we only have to last a year until Lilac turns eighteen, and then we spend our fortune on pop tarts and Pokémon cards.” Solitude said.
A reference to this Alex Hirsch tweet:
Tumblr media
“We’ll have to come up with fake names.” Solitude giggled. “I’ll be Sensible.” “You will not, I called dibs!” Sunny shouted.
A reference to Netflix!Sunny’s name in @ornettelosts‘s Nine Baudelaires AU. Love ya, Sammie! :D
“I still wanna know how Babbitt had-” Nick began, but Klaus slapped a hand over his mouth.
“I still wanna know how Babbitt had sex.”
Lilac ran her hands over the title. “Yeah. Let’s leave this behind.” She smiled and said, “Time to go. Sound off! One!”
They’re leaving their series of unfortunate events behind.
Lilac smiled and said, “Let’s go find something new.”
There’s always something.
Perhaps, in ten years, Beatrice would have a much happier message for her uncle than he expected.
A reference to The Beatrice Letters and, lowkey, the happier version of it in Netflix’s adaptation of The End.

Hi there, fellas! Below the cut, I’ve included some wanted connections & filled connections too. Please, do not be afraid to reach out to me on any of them! I’m seriously open to anything, even if it’s an idea not listed or filled! (updated: 04/01 @ 1:51AM pst)
M A V E R I C K   S T A R K ( Son of Tony Stark & Pepper Potts )
Best Friend - Someone that knows him inside and out. They’ve been friends since childhood and could be complete opposites or absolutely the same. Either way, this one has to come from the MCU! | PETRA MAXIMOFF
Littlest Sister - His weak spot, his bright spot. These two are attached at the hip and he would do anything for her. He has a hard time teasing her but he will definitely randomly tackle her and “beat her up” like older brothers do. |  MORGAN STARK
Dependent - Someone that he has to constantly defend. He wants to make sure they’re safe and sound always by picking them up and moving them out of the fight before he kicks the ass of whoever decided to mess with them. | EVERY MCU CHILD TBF
Ex - He knew it was a bad idea, he did it anyway. Now they’re in each other’s lives forever for better or for worse. They just stick to him and maybe get him on a weird different level. | OPEN
Childhood Crush - He had a crush on them and they just never knew it. Even today he still has feelings for them, but pushing it down until it no longer exists still feels like a decent option. Worthless, but a decent option. | AUDHILD ODINSON
Friendenemy - Someone that really annoys the heck out of him and has extremely contradicting views but they work together so they have to make things work too. Definitely a Steve Rogers / Tony Stark kind of relationship. | OPEN
Labmate - Someone that keeps him from doing something stupid with his experiments. They keep him grounded, but hey, maybe they like to have some fun too. Who cares what they break? The Starks can fix it later, right? | OPEN
Enemy - Anyone against the family or anyone that tries to hurt his friends… Or maybe they hate him for the opportunity he got just for being Stark’s son. | SACHA BELOVA
T H E O D O R E   L I D D E L L ( Son of Alice Liddell )
Best Friends - People that are ultra-close to Theo and understand all the other crazy sides of him. They may not know about the whole “spirit” thing, but they know he’s a nerd trying to make it in the world. | OPEN
Older Sibling - Maybe they never believed in Wonderland or maybe they did. Either way, Theo always secretly looked up to them. They were the glue that held the family together and he just wanted to be as talented as them. | GEMMA LIDDELL
Younger Sibling - Maybe they never believed in Wonderland or maybe they did. Either way, Theo always kept  the beliefs of  fairy tales alive for them, even when they started to grow up. They’re much more mature than he was at that age, but that wasn’t a bad thing either. | OPEN
Ghost Pal - Someone that has stuck to him for one reason or another. He might be sharing his body with them every now and again or maybe he’s just someone they can talk to without manifesting and losing energy. Maybe they’re just helping him work out his powers. | KIERAN GRACEY
Guardian - Let’s face it, his big heart is a big target. He’s gonna need someone to keep him from getting thrown in the nuthouse or getting hurt because he trusts too easily. | OPEN
Crush - He stumbles over his words when he’s around them. He just can’t help himself. If he wasn’t so awkward, maybe he could manage to be with them someday. Either way, he still wants to be around them 24/7. | LYNETTE DESCHAMPS
Wonderland Buddies - Anyone from Wonderland that managed to sneak into the real world. They haven’t seen each other since both of them were kids. | ALL THE BUDS

Mentor - Someone to help her understand the force and how to be better with it. She’s chaotic, so whether it’s good or bad, she needs some help to get better. | OPEN
Good Influence - May go along with sibling or mentor or even friend, but someone who is constantly telling her she can be better and follow Obi-Wan’s good lessons. They help to chill out her firey emotions sometimes. | ARIN TICO
Bad Influence - Tells her to go for her emotions and that what she’s feeling isn’t bad if she channels it all into the dark side instead. She believes them, she just knows it isn’t a good idea... | BEN SOLO
Sibling Figure - Doesn’t matter if it’s brother or sister, anyone that she could consider an older or younger sibling would be amazing. She’s always wanted a family like that and envies it in many ways. | BRYN DAMERON
Friends w/ Benefits - She’s definitely open to a relationship with benefits! It’s kinda a thing for her to be with someone just for fun and enjoyment. She just likes to feel close to someone. | OPEN
Crush - Someone who develops a crush on her or maybe she finds she likes this person a lot more than she should. Maybe she’s afraid she’s gonna lose them too. Maybe they’re someone that makes her feel like she can make her Father proud. | DARYAN CRESSE
Enemies - Let’s face it, Obi-Wan had many enemies on the Sith side that may not like that Kyra exists and may want to take her out. | OPEN
B E A T R I C E   F I T Z H E R B E R T ( Daughter of Rapunzel & Eugene Fitzherbert )
Best Friend - Closest to her and knows everything she tries to hide. They can read her like a book and while they probably won’t call her out on it, they do try to keep her safe. | OPEN
Siblings (2) - She feels incredibly close with both of her siblings and is always putting their welfare above her own if she can. They make her life less lonely and she trusts them completely. | TOBY FITZHERBERT & OPEN
Guard or Stable Friend - Perhaps a child of Maximus or Pascal maybe? Someone who could have tried to teach her to protect herself and others and relied on her ability when they met as children. | OPEN
Ex-Friend or Ex - Someone that she thought loved her but she figured they didn’t after everything that happened. They were the one to make her wary of friendships at all. | OPEN
Corona / Arendelle Friends - More friends from Corona for her to adore or possibly become acquainted with. I would also like to see possible Arendelle connections! | OLA BJORGMAN
Controller - Takes advantage of her kindness and uses it to their advantage simply because she’s naive and easy to control once she trusts someone. | FELIX WESTERGAARD
Unique Friend - Someone to teach her that not all people are out there to be good and kind. Maybe they’re taking pity on her. Maybe she slightly annoys them. It’s flexible. | OPEN
H E N R Y   W A L T O N   J O N E S,  III ( Son of Indiana Jones & Marion Ravenwood )
Companion - Someone to follow him on every adventure, big or small. He would consider them one of the only people that don’t get offended by him and actually understands his thought process perhaps. | OPEN
His Little Sister - He took her on too many mini adventures when they were both kids. She’s one of the only people that knows when he’s faking it. Maybe a little more street smart where he can be a little book smart too. | OPEN
Ex - The initial person that broke his heart. Could have been when they were young or maybe things got too serious and he had to run away like dear dad? Either way, he tries to avoid them but he’s unable to. | OPEN
Enemy - Many people could fill this position. Especially if they’re greedy and disrespectful of culture or hurt others. | OPEN
Flirtacionship - He’s a pretty face with a little charm and they’re willing to put up with his bluntness and obsessive talk of history. | Adrien Solo
Apprentice - Someone he’s showing the ropes to! He doesn’t ever underestimate them, but definitely doesn’t want them getting hurt and he’ll do everything he can to make sure that doesn’t happen. | OPEN
M I K A S A   K O P O L I ( Daughter of Kiki & Tombo )
Coven - I would love it if the witches got together and created a coven of super diverse but interesting talents! The more power they have the better. Did someone say powerpuff girls?? | EDEN DALLOWAY-PIPER & OPEN
Customer - I would love it if she had a frequent customer that always required a certain potion or elixir… Or maybe they’re just addicted. Either way it works! | OPEN
Bad Influence - They’re so nice and pleasant to her that they convince her to use her magic for bad instead of good. Yikes, now they’re making drug-like concoctions or something. | KAL BARR
Best Friend - They realize her potential and push her to keep doing good and trying! They may go on adventures with her on the broom too! | OPEN
Big Brother - Someone that she looks up to more than anyone. She’s always pushing herself to be at their level. I would imagine they’re pretty close and work together well. | OPEN
Mentor - Maybe someone that wants to coach her more and make her better at being a witch! She could definitely use one at times. | OPEN
Apprentice - Someone she happens to be teaching about the magic world that she sees a spark in... She’s not a perfect teacher but they’re just starting out anyway! No biggie. | OPEN
Attraction - She trips all over herself when this person comes near but she knows she shouldn’t ever fall for someone again. She would probably write them secret letters with flowers too. | OPEN

Her Dependent - This person just needs someone’s protection like she did when she was little. She sees a lot of herself in them and wants to keep them safe. | OPEN
Her FWB or Ex - This is someone she probably trusted quite a bit and then they let her down in some way. She’s still drawn to them completely but she tries to stop herself from being with them to no avail. | OPEN
Her Mystery - Probably someone that she wants to expose as a fraud but can’t and while it frustrates her, she’s just too intrigued to give up. | OPEN

Wu Assassins
Here it is. A fantasy American show with Asian leads that isn’t all martial arts and little acting. Wu Assassins is convoluted and rather ridiculous, but it’s got a heap of good points. And who says there can’t be a fun convoluted ridiculous show with Asian leads to compete with the 9000 convoluted ridiculous shows with the whites as leads?
1. There is admittedly a LOT going on. There are elemental super villains on the loose that need to be stopped. A police bust on the Triad. A lot of people WORKING for the Triad. Heroin addiction. Power struggles. A dude who really just wants to start his own restaurant. There’s a lot of crazy happening nonstop in this show. Thankfully on the whole the actors are good at pulling off serious acting amidst the chaos.
2. Lewis Tan. One of the hottest men on God’s green earth. I could watch the man all day and he’s good here as a charismatic car thief. Unfortunately I have yet to see him have onscreen chemistry in a romance and this was no exception. His kiss with Katheryn Winnick feels like a forced high school play lip lock. This isn’t because I don’t think he CAN do romance, more the fact that he’s been paired with some folks he just really clunks with. Other things that didn’t work was the fact that Lu Xin keeps calling himself a “monster” because of his scars. His scars that are easily hidden. Scars that are on like the handsomest man on earth. Slow down there Phantom of the Opera, NO ONE sees you as a monster. You’re an absolute stunner of a man with charm and money...NO ONE feels real bad for you here. The whole “I look in the mirror and see a hideous disfigured husk” is less than convincing on a dude who the scars actually give character to. As was commented on Uhtred once on The Last Kingdom “even his scars are handsome”. Same here with ol’ Lu Xin.
3. And Katheryn Winnick is part of the problem. While it’s nice to see her getting work after Vikings, she feels WAY too mature and commanding for this part. This seems like a character that should be being played by someone in their mid-twenties, or better yet since Winnick actually is an accomplished martial artist, have the character look like a NORMAL older woman. The cop part was fine, the fact that she dresses like a Hot Topic employee was not. And there isn’t really a reason for her to dress like that. Yes she’s undercover, but the outfits make her stand out more. Also her romance with Lu Xin is completely unbelievable if only for the fact they have like two scenes together. She barely interacts with him
4. The Wah siblings are probably the most compelling characters as Tommy struggles with heroin addiction and Jenny tries to deal with parents who expect way too much of her. Their scenes are well acted and could easily have been in a straightforward drama. It was nice to see a diverse cast being given some meaty roles here.
5. The shades of grey are a nice touch for the show. Uncle Six is seriously terrible, but he’s also a good father and it’s understandable that Kai doesn’t agree with him but does still love him. Lu Xin is a car thief and makes no bones about that nor does anyone have a problem with it. Jenny and Tommy are both tangled in the Triad. Everyone is part hero, part criminal and it’s all played very comfortably.
6. The time travel aspect is one of my biggest complaints. No one really explains how the Wu works or why Alec knew how to get back to his family or how Kai was able to follow him or WHY all the other Wu assassins failed or what the monks really had to do with anything...basically the mythology of the show is a mess. The acting is compelling and the story itself is good, but the mythology could use a good going over.
7. The martial arts in the show are spot on. Gritty, street fighting style, this is not a show where things don’t look like they hurt. In fact you end up wondering how the thugs end up getting up as many times as they do as devastating as the hitting looks.
8. The soundtrack of the show is amazing. Someone knew exactly how to make a show sound good.
On the whole it’s a fun show that needs more Lewis Tan and maybe a revamp of Winnick’s character and someone to sort out how exactly the Wu works. Everything else is spot on and the addition of an almost completely Asian cast make the show unique as a different voice in American fantasy shows.

The Umbrella Academy
What a good show!!!!! Let me tell ya, I was sleepin on this show and I have no clue why!?!?! Take a seat, grab a snack, get comfortable cuz I'm about to rant!!!
Ok for starters, as a disclaimer, I knew nothing about the comic books or characters or anything before watching this show. But damn, going into it blind is probably just as much fun as if you were already an established fan.
This show is so so entertaining and well done. It sort of reminds me of Heroes, way back in the day when that show was on (Sylar was my jam gah-damn). I feel like The Umbrella Academy captures that same kind of audience kind of, but it's so independent and unique on it's own that it's definitely separated from Heroes.
This show speaks to me on so many levels. Emotionally stunted family/siblings dealing with the abusive/neglectful childhood they were raised in. Superheroes (also my main jam). Action, love of all kinds, personal development for each character, humor, seriously this show is just so well rounded.
I didn't know what to expect at every turn, I was kept constantly trying to guess what was going to happen next and there were several options to choose from for them to go. Each character brings something different to the table and it's just so fun to see them grow and where they go with the story.
The actors! Good-god-almighty! They did such a great job of picking these people, not to mention the diversity. Yay! I'm so for it, I love it!
Allison is so gorgeous (even tho her hair looking like ramen noodles had me so distracted for most of the season, I got over it...kinda) She is beautiful and her power, "I heard a rumor", like damn dude you could get away with anything with that! No wonder her character chose to be an actress in the show. She is smart and sassy and confident and I'm here for it. I feel bad for her with her backstory with her daughter, but like if I were a mom with her power, I'd probably have done the same thing (cuz ya girl ain't got an ounce of patience for bullshit)
Tumblr media
Vanya (super cool name, love it) isn't my favorite character but she is still pretty cool. Its kind of hard for me to look at Ellen Page and not think of Juno. She's never been my favorite actress, but she does a good job with this character, being so closed off and neglected at the beginning and then completely transforming. Homegirl had is super rough as a child, I feel for her, being left out...that shit kills. She is soooo tiny in stature compared to everyone else in the show, it kept throwing me off a bit, but like that's not her fault. If anything it adds to her character. I hate how easy it was for her to be influenced by what others said. (Btw, fuck you Leonard, you're a dick bro, I ain't even gonna give you your own paragraph of opinion, cuz you manipulative fuck, I don't like you!)
Tumblr media
Now for the boys!
Good lord they did my boy, Tom Hopper, dirty with the outrageous bodysuit they put on him for Luther! Like he is so naturally built and pretty to look at and they had to go and ruin my visual pleasure of him with that gnarly bodysuit! I spent the better part of like the first 4 or 5 episodes trying to think of how they did this effect before I thought of them making him wear just a big foam prosthetic. (Insert gif of Chris Evans' "I don't wike it" here) Luther as a character I feel needs a bit more development, they don't really define his power super clearly except for his build telling you its strength. They don't showcase it very well and it makes me sad. Also!! Why would you put him on the moon for 4 years! Damn you, Reginald!! Even without the in-depth background development, I love him as a character cuz he definitely tries to be the golden boy, protector, older brother even though they're all the same age. I love him. The dance scene between him and Allison completed me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diego is awesome! I love him. I wasn't too sure of him at the start, he looked super suspicious and guilty at the start but I really learned to love him. Not to mention he is hot af, like damn boi! I love how much of a hot-head he is and his power with the knives is dope. His relationship with Klaus is so funny as it develops and I just really enjoy it. He is stubborn as fuck tho! Seeing some of his backstory and how close he is with mom is so sweet, cuz he plays the tough guy when he is such a mama's boy at heart.
Tumblr media
Five is such a goober! Putting an old dude in a kid's body, he is so dry and serious and it's just so funny cuz he is the most mature out of all of them! He's such a grump too, but I would be too if I had gone through what he did. His power is super cool and I would love to have it! Imagine all the money you'd save on gas and plane tickets just being able to jump anywhere like that!! GOALS! The fact he can time travel with it is just a bonus! He really is the smartest of the bunch (tho Allison is on his heels, as runner up) I'm my opinion. The fact that he is in love with a mannequin is such a quirky and fun part of the show! It's like they were like, "sure, give the youngest character a love interest, but make sure she isn't real", genius! I don't know what these writers were thinking, but it fucking works.
Tumblr media
Klaus is my favorite character of the entire damn show! This boy is so fucking funny, I can't get over it. He has these one-liners or quips throughout the show that just get me. His style and look is so attractive too, especially when he isn't really my usual type, but I was really feeling him. I love that they portray the addiction struggle. I think he, as an actor, really nails that part of the performance and brings a lot of heart to it. He really makes you fall in love with the black sheep of the family, the screw up. I really enjoy his relationship with Ben throughout the show and the fact that it's so secluded to the two of them. I really like that they don't play on his sexuality as what defines him, it's a part of him that is important, but it's not his sole focus and I really appreciate that. I wish they would elaborate more on his relationship with Dave, but maybe that'll be explained more in future seasons? The fact that he communicates with dead people for his power is super cool. The old Russian lady just yapping in the background of that one episode was so funny, but like I can see why he resorts to drugs for relief. Poor baby can't get any peace and quiet, not even in the tub! The scene of him dancing around in his towel is great, it kills me! Klaus really is just my favorite of the whole show, he really steals it for me and I just love him so much!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really want Ben to be expanded as a character. I like the actor they chose for him, I like his sense of humor and the fact that he basically acts as Klaus' conscience. I want more of him, cuz I think he is a cool character and I want more backstory.
Tumblr media
Freaking Hazel and Cha-Cha! What a duo!? Mary J. Blige is legendary, so beautiful and suave. Having her paired with a guy like Hazel is just so fun. He is such a sweetheart, falling for the donut lady who is like way older than him!? I would've never called that and it's a bit weird of a relationship, but I respect it! You love who you love! Anyways, Hazel and Cha-Cha are fun to watch and the fact that they struggle so much with trying to kill Five is just hilarious to me.
Tumblr media
Altogether the show is just so much fun to watch. The relationship between the characters and the development is choice and I love it. I relate to each character and what they go through in different aspects and it triggers me and my memories, but I don't really mind to be honest, the show is worth it. The main plot of stop the apocalypse is overdone, but if you can look past that (like I do) then the show is so enjoyable. I definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a new binge (seeing as I watched it in an afternoon, don't judge me, I did 5 hours of microeconomics homework before that).
So yeah...that's all I gotta say about that.

Summary: Moving into a new university, James Barnes didn’t except to fall in love with the professor next door. (College Professor AU!Reader/Bucky Barnes)
Masterlist
A/N: This is for @redgillan and her love towards Prof. Bucky! There is a lot of mention of political science, I’m sooo sorry.
Please enjoy! Like always, feedback is always welcomed.
James Buchanan Barnes understood early on that things were done differently in a smaller university. For one he had more interactions with students and its diverse faculty, on the other hand resources were a bit more limited, a bit more cramped. He learned this while staring at his new office on the 5 floor of the central lecture hall. Back in the city, he and the rest of the astrophysics department had a whole building to themselves, here he was cramped in together with the political science, religious studies, and various other little sects that came with this private university’s curriculum. It didn’t bother him, but it was definitely a shock.
The small room barely fits half the books that used to fit in his old office, but James takes it all with stride as he tries to make it feel like his own -- a poster here, some books there, a picture of himself with Peggy and Steve when they were graduate students. He’s too preoccupied moving things to notice a figure standing at his opened door, obviously appreciating the view before knocking on the door.
“Hi neighbor,” a raspy voice exclaims, as he turns to see a woman dressed in jeans and a t-shirt standing in behind him, and while classes hasn’t started yet, James knows this woman feels at home within these walls and how she carries herself, which is very different approach to his dress slacks and rolled up blue shirt.
“Hi,” he gets up and walks over to her with a cool smile on his face as he stretches out his hand, “Dr. James Barnes, Astrophysics Department.”
“Oh, so you’re the one they replaced Rumlow with,” she makes a face at the name, like many of the other staff that James had met with, as she shakes his hand. She states her own name before explaining.
“...I’ve work a few doors down, part of the Pol Sci Department,” she explains with an easygoing smile that catches his attention and doesn’t let go. She’s about explain something when her name is called down the other side of the hallway. They both turn to see a short red-haired women wearing a formal blouse and skirt. She nods and looks at James one more time before moving away.
“If you need a tour of the place, let me know.”
James can’t take her up on that offer, since Dr. Banner --the Dean of the Science Department-- shows him around the school a couple of hours after that. The beginning of fall semester begins and James finds himself busy between the classes that he has, the club that he is supposed to be running, and other tasks handed to him as the only other member of this part of the department. However, he sees her from time to time.
“Good morning, Dr. Barnes,” she says with a smile.
“How are you classes so far?” she asks one time when they are walking together through the university’s lawn.
“Are you choosing that for lunch?” she asks while standing behind him in line waiting to get a late lunch.
A laugh or the sight of a bright smile catches him off guard when they are both heading towards their offices or going into the faculty lunch area and he had a dire need to learn more about her. Slowly, he learns that she’s the senior most member of the Political Science Department, as the expert of history and political theory before the 20th century. The rest of the department is also women with Prof. Romanoff leading anything during and after the 20th century and Dr. Hill leading any American and Law studies. It was an intimating group of women, but James didn’t see it that way -- not with her.
5 minutes.
James thinks as he stares at the digital clock on his computer. It had become a small ritual as of late for him to get up and have lunch just before his first class of the day started since all his classes where during the afternoon and evening. If he timed leaving his office well enough, he would get to see you.
“Oh! Good afternoon,” you say with a bright smile as you open your door, as he closes his, to put your books back into your office. James gives you a smile, as he peaks in a little more. Your office is certainly messier than his with piles of books everywhere, some potted plants near the window that faced the courtyard, and posters here and there from various films. You place the books on your cluttered desk before turning back to look at him.
“How were your classes today?” it is the same question he had asked you since the beginning of this little dalliance since most of your classes where in the early morning and evening hours; it was the only time he really got with you and he tried to make the most of it. His heart stutters a bit at the sight of your smile, as you go on to explain what the freshman did in your World History class and the upperclassmen did in your Revolutions class. You explain theory as best you could and add little anecdotes here and there. You laugh and ask his opinion on current events, and if anyone saw the two of you, they could swear James Barnes had the most tender look on his face.
It’s a little later in the semester when he hears it, a soft song playing throughout the hall that houses his office after his last evening class. James cocks an eyebrow as he makes his way to his office. Then, he sees a light coming from your office and the music playing a little louder than before. He takes cautious steps and sees you, hair in a messy bun with a stack of green books and takeout on the side. He smiles as you tap the red pen to the beat of the song. You’re marking a green book with all red as he knocks the door.
“Grading?” he asks, as you jump a little to the sound of his voice. You give him tired smile and nod telling him to come in. Your office is a little less cluttered than before since he can actually sit down, as you turn off the music.
“Alice in Chains?” he lets out a soft laugh at your taste in music because with every new day he is learning a little bit more about you and sometimes it surprises him. You grin as you take a bite out of your food.
“Older brothers are big Grunge fans,”  you explain, before going back to tapping your red pen and adding as an afterthought, “You got any siblings?”
“Three younger sisters,” he declares as you let out a painful whistle and proceed to ask him how that was like, which soon turns into swapping embarrassing childhood stories. The papers you were grading are long forgotten, though neither of you forget that night any time soon.
Talks and random moments soon turn into more in depth conversations and exchanging books over the main subjects you love, though it is a little hard to understand at times for the other party. Natasha points this out during one of your shared lunches to talk about the political science students and their next classes.
“You seriously gave him Fukuyama to read?” Natasha scoffs behind her cup of coffee, as you shrug.
“I talked about it and he seemed interested,” you explain a little more horrified than before, as you take a bit out of your burger. She shakes her head, clearly not thinking that such a man would exists.
“I mean, you could have started him out with Plato, Rousseau, hell even Marx,” she exclaims in subtle disbelief, “But, no, give him ‘time is cyclical’ man. Either you want him to run or you…”
Green eyes stare at your face for a long while, trying to catch any changes as you give her a bright smile with flushed cheeks, Natasha curses under her breathe but can’t help but smile at the same time too. It had been a long time since you had been this happy.
“So, what are you reading?” she questions, as Maria enters the dinning hall and she knows her time is limited before everything really goes into business mode.
“Neil de Grase Tyson,” you answer and she laughs.
The science students may not have known Dr. Barnes long enough to see the difference, but the political science students could see that you smiled more. You might still have some of the hardest classes in the department, but there was certainly something light about you. A group of upperclassmen, mostly young woman that liked talking and asking you questions, especially when you were spending those non-tutoring hours outside of your office, knew something was up -- something that they had never seen in the 3-4 years that they had spent studying underneath your tutelage. So, they hover around the hall after a few classes and while they get all their questions answered, they see something new -- the newest staff member watching your door.
It doesn’t take them along to put two and two together. So, before the winter semester ends, they gather around his office (when yours is empty) with bright smiles that send James into slight confusion.
“Her birthday is the last day of finals,” Helen, the oldest member declares, “She likes funny political puns and old cartoons. Just the let you know.”
James blinks for a moment.
“Good luck, Dr. Barnes,” they all coo before leaving and James quickly opens the notes app on his phone to remember the gold that had been given him, and let’s just say you had a very funny birthday present at the end of a tiring day at semester.
Winter break in a new city isn't any fun if you don’t know anyone and while James is aware that he could have gone home or spent the holidays with Steve and Peggy. He also wanted to get used to living in this new town, even if it was alone and he knew there were going to be times where he was needed within the university. And while he might have been hoping for something, for someone to spend the holidays with he was too chicken in the end to ask for your phone number, too afraid that what he wanted wasn’t how you pictured this casual friendships between coworkers. Then, on a wintry December he sees his work email has one new message.
Dear James,
I am sorry if this may seem inappropriate to you, but I saw a stargazing event being advertised for this weekend. My curiosity was piqued, but I don’t know much about the subject. Since you do, would you mind going with me to the event?
I have attached a flyer to the event in the email.
James never answered an email so fast in his life before, as he yells in excitement in his kitchen. And slowly but surely, stargazing turns into lunch and coffee “meetings” between the two of you for the rest of winter break.
The spring semester eases you into a mix of both, from grading papers together in the evening to meeting every other during the weekend for some activity, and James swears that he’s falling for you at this point with your witty one liners and bright eyes that seem take in everything he talks about. However, fear gurgles at his throat at the thought of putting a label at whatever you have been dancing around. Labels aren’t important, he thinks but you put a stop to that.
“James, do you want to go to the Academic Showcase together?” you question as you mark another green book with your red pen, not seeing his surprised face. The Academic Symposium was a university event that encased all the research done by students who had done any independent study within the past year, everyone --including Deans and the President-- attended. This meant going public with whatever you had, and it caused him to pause.
“You don’t have to…” your quivering voice brings him back to reality, as he finds you staring at him with a smile, which by now he knew wasn’t good. So, he places at hand over your own and grins.
“Of course, I’ll go. Gotta see my girl’s work after all,” he gives you a crooked grin before grasping your hand tightly into his own. The bright blush on your face telling him that it might all right to call you his cause that familiar feeling to bloom again, as he goes back to that crazy l-word once more.
Now, due to it being his first year, James doesn’t have anything to present. So, he takes his time walking around and taking in all the presentations, some catching his interest more than others as he gets more excited as he gets closer to your side of the room. That’s when he sees you, wearing a glimmering black dress, while answering any questions your student can’t seem to answer about the French Revolution and St. Just. Starry eyed and varies hand motions with that upticked smile and James knows he’s done for -- he’s in love.
He watches until all the important people are called for dinner and your student is dragged away by a very curious donor of the school. He walks over and slides his arm around your waist as you melt right at his side like you belong there. You look at him and smile.
“You’re amazing,” he declares as he moves over to look over the work you helped put together. You grin while turning to look at him with a fondness he certainly hasn’t seen before.
“I know,” you laugh, as he laughs before pulling you into a hug. His chest rumbles with laughter before you speak again, “But, you are too, and I can’t wait to see your work on display.”
James isn’t why he decides to say it in that moment, but the words of encouragement and steady belief in what you know he was capable of awes him. Your grip and on his jacket and those bright red lips tell James that’s he’s done, that this is it.
“I love you,” he murmurs softly, hoping you didn’t hear him but the soft kiss on his cheek tells him a different story. You move your hand to have his face looking at  yours and for a moment James fears what you might say, until he sees your eyes filled with nothing but adoration.
“Love ya too, Bucky,” you answer back, light and joyfully with a huge grin, as you call him by his childhood nickname and he isn’t quite so sure where you had heard it from --maybe, when he was talking about Steve again?-- but he decides it’s the best way he has ever heard it being said before.
And underneath the sparkling light and St. Just’s watchful eyes, James feels the start of something new, something permanent beginning to form -- a small revolution all on its own.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 6 Recap Pt. 1
Oh boy… I need to vent again, I’m sorry, but thanks to everyone reading this, it’s a cathartic experience if anything.
WARNINGS: SPOILERS; Not a D@€ny fan, but if you follow me you already know that and if you don’t no problem that’s why I always warn you about it; Jonsa shipper and still growing strong ( I always loved the Tyrell OK???)
Before diving into the recap:
1.- The toughts, tinfoily wishy washy stuff, analysis, random stuff that I write are my own only, and in no form or way am I trying to convince you that I am right and every body else is wrong, I have been wrong about fandom stuff a LOT, and really it’s just fun for me to do this, anyway I am open to debate if you want just be respectful. Feel free to correct me if you notice I have some facts I present wrong, I will never get mad about it and will even thank you for your insight.
2.- The analysis/opinions I express of certain ships/characters are just my opinion as an audience, if you like the ship/characters good! That’s what makes the fandom experience such a diverse thing, and I have nothing against you. Keep on loving the thing you love!
3.- The Salt Throne and I are one entity of pure undiluted Salt and bitterness,if you don’t wish to subject yourself to reading my salty fangirl rants I completely understand.
—————
1.- We start on that table-map, helI feel I condemned myself saying I didn’t wanted no more close-ups of the thing, anyway so it’s just a pretty shot to get to where the story (plot? What plot?) really pick’s up: Eastwatch by the sea.
We are with the suicide squad on this show’s dumbest mission, but then again this season a lot of dumb things happened so I am resigned. Yeah so Jon and Tormund are talking about how dumb this mission is (got is breaking the fourth wall now???) while Gendry is freezing, Tormund is happy to be back North of the Wall cuz the air in the south is shit, Jon is like bih you never went south but really is agreeing actually Jon seems much more himself now that he is in the North again. Tormund and Jon tease Gendry about making do with him cuz there are no ladies here (ahaha joking about experiencing homosexual sex but no homo bro it’s just because we have no ladies amirite? Am I watching got or the big b4ng th€or¥?) and you know what else they don’t have?? Horses, and food, and those pesky dragonglass weapons, and a raven to send for help should anything happen… But no ladies are the priority. (*sigh* this show is so painfully obviously written by man) Gendry apparently believes them and goes away, Tormund comments he isn’t very bright, he needn’t be says Jon cuz they need the brawn and not the brains right? No this stupid ass mission could have seriously used some brains.
Anyway this next convo of conversations was very intresting to hear, not because they add anything to the plot (if such a thing exists anymore in this show) but I think they are important in understanding the theme they have in common and the relevance I think they have in the final scenes of the episode.
First we have a Tormund/Jon convo, our funny redhead asks about the Dragon Queen, and I expected they would use this chance to make some crude remark about her beauty or her body (dude not a second ago they were joking about bedding Gendry!!) but no, the conversation never goes in the direction that could further the idea of Jon’s attraction to D, Jon trusts Tormund and it would be normal for bros to discuss this stuff (remember how Jon giggled about Tormund mentioning Brienne last episode), instead a very weary and frustrated Jon states she (D) wouldn’t help unless he bends the knee, Tormund says that won’t happen cuz Jon spent so much time with the Wildings to be a kneeler again, but then he moves on to talk about Mance Ryder (dude this Jon/Mance parallels are hitting me in the face like a cold fish, I know D&D I noticed! You haven’t been subtle about this!!! You used the same FUCKING dialogue) and how the dude could have saved a lot of lives if he just had let go of his pride and knelt (so Tormund is our Jon in this parallel ain’t he?) it just made me laugh that Tormund, a wildling cuz they are still Free Folk and rule themselves even if they have an alliance with the KitN, is the one to suggests kneeling, but then I realized how big of a fucken deal that is, Mance could have saved those lives yes (and that’s mere speculation honestly cuz Stannis and his army could have also died at Hardhome #just saying) but he decided keeping his people’s will was more important, Jon respected that to the point he defyied Stannis (they needed his help and dude had just saved them) openly by killing Mance, and now Tormund who is kind of the new Free Folk king/leader is saying it would have been OK if he knelt to save everyone’s lives in front of Jon whom is in a very similar situation.
Then we get a Jorah/Jon convo, again perfect oportunity to show them as D’s love interests and rivals, or for Jorah to wax poetic about Khaliiisi and Jon being jealous or some shit. Some serious talk, if we had time in this compact season for Jon to threaten (or pardon) every man who ever crossed paths with Sansa, why Gendry or the Hound haven’t mentioned Arya at all, if logic states that she is someone this people have in common and should talk about? (like Theon asking about Sansa, or Tyrion) Why Jorah doesn’t talk about D if Jon is her new love interest and it would be a nice and neat contrast between the two of them? Instead they disscus another people they have in common, ex-Lord Commander Jeor Mormont and Ned Stark, oh yes they talk about their dads, Jon says how wonderful was Jorah’s dad and how awful was his death, while Jorah said it must have been heartbreaking for his dad whose entire life was the NW and Jon talks about Ned “the goodest most honorable man ever” dying like a traitor for his honor and pride (like I sense a pattern, can you tell? Gods D&D are too subtle guys) and goes as far as to say he is glad his dad didn’t kill Jorah (you know making him pay for his crime in a just honorable way). Honestly what was the point of this conversation if not that survival is most important than honor? The writers (through Jon) are celebrating that Jorah survived even if he has done sketchy awful things (among them he conspired to have D and her baby killed so he would be allowed to go back to Westeros).
Right we get an intresting end to this convo, Jon offers Jorah Longclaw (why would he give him the sword if he is gonna need it right now in the stupid ass Wight hunt? Why didn’t he gave it to Lady Lyanna Mormont, she has presumably begun training cuz she said to Lord Glover she wasn’t gonna sit by the fire while the man defended the North??? Why would he give it to someone if Jeor gave it to him cuz he didn’t wanted Jorah to have it???) but the point of the conversation it’s not the sword, because Jorah rejects it, it’s about planting the possibility of children in Jon’s future. people have been screaming Targ baby to the heavens and back, and if that is what you chose to belive alright, but I think not, if that was the case wouldn’t it be appropiate to have the Targ theme or the J/D song in the background and transition to DS where D talks about children with Tyrion like she does in a future scene? I would have believed it then. But instead we have the Stark theme and the scene transitioning to Arya and SANSA, call me delusional if you want but for me this is another check in the ‘targcest is building up tarbowl’ column.
Summarizing this we get the very bright neón message of Honor=Death. Which I’ll bring back later.
2.- Y'all remember those good times when the WF storyline was the only thing getting me through all the bullshit I was being fed by D&D? Well they’re over. As I said in point 1 we get a transition of Arya and Sansa looking down at the courtyard while Arya talks about how Ned watched the boys training and tries to diminish Sansa’s connection to her family by stating she was surely too busy sewing to know that (have fun freezing your limbs off darling!!! Sewing and Knitting and all those “delicate female” activities you sniff at are the reason you have clothes miss, really I can’t with this where is the Arya that thought woman to be of equal importance than man?) Sansa is having none of that and says she remembers, we get a cute memory of Arya practicing archery in secret and Ned approving (we get again nods to the patriarchy is wrong! But this is sloppy as fuck if D&D make Arya feel superior to non-warrior inclined girls, like that is also misogynistic) Sansa is smiling fondly (she at this point is more of a feminist icon than any other girl in this show, make no mistake she is not upset or resentful of warrior girls, she approved with a smile when Lyanna said girls on Bear Island were going to be trained too, and she smiles at the memory Arya is sharing with her of defying the rules and practicing archery cuz that made her happy) but then things take a turn for worse when Arya said that Ned is dead cuz Sansa helped the Lannisters. I never asked for this bullshit!!! Not even Ned blamed Sansa for anything, even if Sansa hadn’t alerted her Cersei was gonna kill Robert to protect herself and her children, Ned died for Joffrey’s cruelty (he wasn’t even supposed to die, he was to be sent to the Wall) and yes Sansa had a role to play in the chain of events that led to that, but Sansa had no way of knowing that, she only tried to save her family! The smile gets wiped from my girl’s face she is completely at loss. Arya takes out the letter and starts reading it out, even when Sansa asks her to stop cuz she already knows what does the letter say (wow I can’t belive D&D keep on triggering Sansa through her siblings, FUCKING disgusting) Arya is being unnecessary cruel, blaming Sansa for being powerless to stop their father’s death when she herself was equally powerless, like????? D&D are pushing this Starkbowl bs cuz this is got and nothing can be nice for 2 sec. But really this shit has no basis, you have Wight Hunt Team people who have literally killed each other or tried to working together and joking and then have two sisters who went through hell and back fighting cuz one of them thinks the other survived KL by being a princess in a tower??? Like how is this logical? Even if this is a cleverly crafted Arya plot (I think there is some logic to this) to kill LF is not fair for Sansa, god can’t she have good things on her life? D&D took away the safety of her home by marrying her off to Ramsey and have him rape her in her HOME, and now they make her family treat her one like a stranger and the other like shit???? I’m not asking for Arya to thank Sansa on her knees like she suggested (if anything Sansa was super brave standing her ground and defending her possition and everything she did to retake their home) I don’t want everyone to worship her as they do certain someone all I am asking for is respect and safety for someone who deserves it! Really and Arya suggesting Lyanna Mormont would go for Sansa’s throat why yes she is a child, one that has lost a lot with all this fucking wars but still a child that lacks the knowledge of the true game of thrones and what it takes to survive it, like you Arya (doesn’t she remembers she was cupbearer to Tywin who literally was responsible for the murder of her brother and mother? This is actually what leads me to think this is a ploy cuz Arya is not a hypocrite as far as we’ve seen) still this was painful to watch if you love the Starks.
Anyway leaving my frustration with this cheap drama aside, did anyone notice the parallels between the Arya and Sansa confrontation and the Jon/Tormund and Jon/Jorah conversations? The Wight Hunt Team was talking about great honorable man whose honor and moral code brought their downfall and in the Sansa and Arya, the youngest sister was blaming the eldest for having no honor and surviving (she goes as far as to say she would have rather died than betray her family) while Sansa defends what she did and shows how far she has come from paying the game.
Again this thing is not subtle at all.

To Your Eternity – 09 – Gugunrise Kingdom
Tumblr media
Fushi has rescued, reunited and made up with Gugu, and for the first time he uses his powers…strictly for fun. For the sheer thrill of scaring the shit out of random townsfolk or thrill-seeking teenagers. Gugu has no intention of going back to the house of a man who put a still in his body without his consent, and Fushi doesn’t care either way s long as he’s with Gugu.
As time passes, the penniless Gugu grows hungrier and weaker. Fushi, obviously, needs no sustenance other than stimulation. But his stimulation thus far has prepared him for this eventuality, as he is able to create the pear-like fruit March fed him, along with dango and fish, thus saving Gugu from starvation.
Tumblr media
When Meer, who obviously knows Gugu’s scent at this point, shows up at his tent, Fushi calls the sickeningly cute and good boy Joaan, the name the boy gave to his wolf-dog. Fushi describes to Gugu how “his first person” stopped moving and “became empty”, so he “became” him. Gugu hypothesizes that both physical and emotional pain affect his bizarre friend.
He posits that if he were to die and Fushi became upset, he would become him. Gugu thinks this is seriously cool…because, well, it is. But for him specifically, it would mean even if he died, Fushi would still think of him. Gugu describes a life where he had three square meals a day, a soft bed, twin older siblings to play with, a mother and father to care for him, and an older brother to look up to.
Gugu is describing his early childhood, when, for at least a few beautiful, fleeting years, he thought he was part of just such a family and living that kind of life, where a lot of people were thinking of him. As he grew older, he began to realize he and his brother were merely the children of servants to that family. When those servants moved on to a new job, they didn’t take Gugu or his brother with them.
Tumblr media
Gugu asks Fushi, the only one who came for him and the only one he can call family, to become him if he dies, then passes out and stops moving. For a second there, I thought that was well and truly the end of Gugu—perhaps succumbing to the nasty side effects of having a still in your gut. Fushi even seems to contemplate absorbing Gugu’s form for a hot second.
For a certainty, To Your Eternity wanted you to think Gugu had died. Then Rean pokes her head into the tent, having finally found the two runaways, and Gugu springs back to life, blushing. Turns out Fushi wasn’t the only one thinking about him or the only one who came for him. Rean tries to drag Gugu out of his ragged tent and back to the Booze Man’s house, but Gugu doesn’t wanna.
Tumblr media
Of course, Rean’s motivations aren’t 100%honorable. She says she, Pioran and Booze Man love Gugu, but really they need to bring someone back who knows what they’re doing in the kitchen. But you know what? As someone who likes to cook for my friends and family, I’m fine with part of the reason people love me is that I cook them good food. It makes me happy when they like my food!
Rean is also unconcerned with Gugu’s appearance, and insists that he show her what he really looks like. Gugu doesn’t acquiesce to this, which means Rean doesn’t get a real look at him. It may be because of this she can reveal her own horrible disfigurement and declare with a straight face that if he casts his gaze upon it he’ll see that his own wound isn’t that bad.
The thing is, Rean’s horrible wound is nothing more but a tiny, fading scratch on her arm no more than three inches long.
Tumblr media
It is a rare show indeed that makes me laugh and cry with such intensity, but this might just have been the funniest episode of To Your Eternity yet. Of course, tragedy and comedy have gone hand-in-hand since the dawn of storytelling itself, it’s just gratifying to see it so effortlessly pulled off here. Just like Fushi, the stronger and more diverse the viewer’s stimulation, the more is learned.
Rean goes on to tell a story that, for her, is a tragic tale of a girl who was never given agency or independence; a girl assigned a role and personality for which no expense was spared to maintain, despite the fact she had zero say in it. It is an obvious mirror image of Gugu’s sob story, told from the POV of the child of the employer, not the employee.
Even so, I do not doubt that from Rean’s perspective, she has suffered, because just like Gugu but through very different (and cushier) circumstances, she was denied the chance to be the best her she could be, which is the one she wanted to be. The grass is always greener, etc.
When Rean tells Gugu how she got her wound—saying that someone pushed her from behind out of malice—Gugu is crestfallen, as this girl misinterpreted him rescuing her from a runaway log as having assaulted her to get back at her family—simply because she never saw the log.
But just as Rean doesn’t care how it looks that someone as rtich and privileged as her is complaining that her life is too comfortable, she also doesn’t gcare whether Gugu is a monster or a human. To her, he’s just Gugu, a weird little boy she’s taken a liking to, so he should come out of the tent and enjoy the wind with her. And if he wants to cover his face, she brought him a pot with eye-holes to wear.
Tumblr media
With Fushi having run off to find Gugu’s original mask, he and Rean agree to go looking for him. Their search takes them into town, where Rean is promptly snatched up by a goon hired by her family to retrieve her. Gugu, who later states he doesn’t care about his “circumstances” anymore, commits to simply being himself.
That happens to be someone who will barrel into someone twice his size, catch the falling Rean, and lead her by the hand to safety. As he does, Rean smiles, not just because Gugu is being Gugu, but because she’s living precisely the dream she hoped to live after running away from home. I am seriously loving this tender story of young love, which reminds me of Moonrise Kingdom, itself likely inspired by rom-com anime.
Fushi ends up finding them after retrieving Gugu’s old mask (it’s nice when you can transform into a wolf-dog, complete with a wolf-dog’s sense of smell) and locates Gugu and Rean, who is now wearing the pot to hide her identity from those sent to find her. It isn’t long before they come across a maid who is most definitely not fooled by Rean’s disguise.
Tumblr media
It’s here where Gugu and Rean rely on Fushi to cover their retreat, which he does non-lethally by assuming the form of March and writhing on the ground before the maid, who sees the little girl’s arrow wound and has no choice but to tend to her before going after Rean.
While searching for Gugu’s mask, Fushi’s creator paid him a brief visit, warning him to keep his guard up. As the maid carries March!Fushi, he’s suddenly snatched up by a tentacle of the “unspeakable” enemy he was warned about. His creator even narrates that this was bound to happen, as Fushi has failed to gain any sophisticated tactical skills since his last scrape with the enemy, and thus the enemy was always going to strike first.
Even so, something happens that neither the enemy nor indeed the creator might have foreseen: Gugu coming to his rescue. I’m not sure what he can possibly do when he’s just a small human boy and even Fushi seems helpless before the enemy’s power. Indeed, as we’re reaching the halfway point of the 20-episode series, Gugu’s days are surely numbered. But even if resistance is futile, I’m glad he’s there for his friend and brother.

Essentially, Leighton is a very friendly and fun-loving guy. Right now in his life, he is going through his version of true freedom, so sometimes he’s a little hesitant to dive into very serious relationships. He can also have a hard time being serious if it is outside of work or school.
Family & Relationships
Relationship with family: Close, but enjoying his distance from them Mother: Jasmine Avita Bacot (43) -dentist Father: Daewon “Wayne” Mbadinuju Jones (46) -retired veteran, now works as a well-paying mechanical job of sorts Siblings: Kali Elizabeth Jones (21), Biology major and
Daewon’s parents found themselves in America when he was just a young boy. His family lived in Queens, New York for a while before moving to New Jersey. Growing up, Daewon was often bullied and ostracized for being darker than the other kids and for having a different accent. He was teased for always smelling like curry and dressing differently. He begged his parents, who also ran into social issues of their own, to help him “more American”. Some neighbors insisted his family try going to their Christian church. At first, it was just to blend in show everyone he was just like everyone else.  As he grew older, however, his faith in Christianity grew stronger because it was through the Christian church he was able to “have it easier”. He started going by the name Wayne and became a very devout man.
After he graduated highschool at 18, Daewon joined the U.S. Air Force. During basic training, however, Daewon faced similar issues he had growing up. He was tired of ethnic name giving him problems. One of the sergeants on his first day took one look at his surname, shook his had, and said,” How ‘bout I just call you Jones?” Once Daewon was out of basic training, he changed his last name to “Jones”, making Mbadinuju his middle name he never speaks of.
While stationed in Germany when he was 21, he met a gorgeous woman, 18 at the time, in a bar while he and his fellow airmen were out on the town. It was love at first sight. Jasmine Bacot, an African, Jamaican, Spanish, and French Canadian, was in Germany with her father, an engineer. The two hit it off instantly. Within a year they were married and when Jasmine was 19, she found out he was pregnant with a son.
As he started his family, Daewon fell back in love with culture. Faith brought him a loving wife and a healthy boy. Somehow Daewon found a way to balance and celebrate culture while staying a devout Christian. He saw the diversity of his family as a blessing and celebrated it. While in Jamaica, visiting Jasmine’s family, the couple gave birth to their daughter three years later.
Leighton and his family are close, especially his sister, but he is enjoying his time away from them. His parents are loving and supporting, but strict. Their Christian values made Leighton and Kali feel like they couldn’t fully be themselves. Sure, they were encouraged to be creative and expressive, but with a few limitations. Daewon and Jasmine attended every competition, school event, and any other extracurricular activities, despite the two of them having their own busy careers.
Partners: Through high school, Leighton had three or four girlfriends. He had a high school crush on guy but only told his sister about it. When he moved away after high school, he had his first gay experience with a guy named Chase. They didn’t work out because Chase wanted to get serious while Leighton wanted to explore his new life. There was one more guy after that.

The peppa pig play doh kids toy Switch - The best way to Manage One particular For your Holiday seasons
Please be aware - this post was written about a Hanukkah project but undoubtedly pertains to Holiday or any time which involves little ones (especially when it's a play-doh toy time).
Not too long ago, as my young children begun to talk about what Hanukkah shows they considered they could like, I required a glance at each of the games and play doh toys toys that they can already got. Now, the kids seriously aren't remarkably bad, but for some reason we own plenty of peppa pig play doh kids toy. If you look at birthday parties, vacations and appointments from their grandparents, who survive from city, and increase that by 5 little ones, you're speaking lots of new play doh videos toy yearly. How often will we get rid of a better business bureau toys or give one particular away? Not necessarily with the level these folks were getting into your house.
peppa toys are usually a parent's fantasies of how some day their children will leave behind your computer and go back to healthy enjoying like we grew up with. To young children, peppa pig toy are a thing to hoard. They can "never" get rid of anything at all. So, pig toy are gathered and gathered.
Which has a quick psychological arrange I discovered which our play doh learn colors toys fell into several classes:
1 -- playdoh toy our kid seriously wants and represents with usually -- Keep those, there aren't a lot of.
2 -- play doh peppa pig kids toys our child may possibly have fun with about monthly -- Make them go away, once a month never happens.
3 -- playdoh toy our baby used to like. Now they only be seated in stock -- Make them go away, they're just gathering airborne dirt and dust. The next little one will by no means enjoy his sibling's hand--me--lower play doh kids toys toys.
4 -- doh toy we imagined our kid need to enjoy. peppa pig play doh kids toys which can be ducational, inventive or maybe the kind we possessed beloved as little ones -- Make them go away, get genuine!
5 -- pig toy that had been pretty much new -- fundamentally the models grandparents possessed delivered -- Get rid of them, but first have a image to send out Granny.
We were required to try to eliminate some play doh peppa pig kids toys before the holiday break influx, but wait, how?
Then I possessed a discuss. We'll use a "play doh peppa pig toys Replace". Buy and sell these "dirt gathering" peppa toys for kinds that could optimum the children's attraction. The neighbor's toys toy look a lot better than your own property do. And it's much easier to get rid of or give out swapped for play doh kids toys, afterwards after you bore of them. Once I instructed my children these people were swapping, and in addition they would get new play doh learn colors toy instead of classic ones, we was able to fill up two big cartons with peppa kids toy.
I purchased my pal, Shoshana, to perform with this project with me therefore we managed to get a Synagogue action for Hanukkah.
We distributed fliers to all of the parents presenting the notion of the toys toy exchange as well as the principles. All play doh toy were actually encouraged. Really the only guideline was that the doh toy had to be in good state. No sections missing out on. No autos without tires. No bears with no ears. No toned ebooks...
The peppa pig play doh kids toy came up by the boxfulls -- I assume I wasn't really the only parent with lots of peppa kids toys.
We marked the cases to ensure that we'd know who they originated in. We sorted the play doh videos toys into a number of groups getting decorated decals on every play doh toys toy:
Crimson -- Wonderful encased games
Environmentally friendly -- Significant little one peppa pig kids toy (we offered that any high ranking since men and women introduced totally new infant pig toys they had received as infant items), puzzles, huge peppa pig toys toys (pottery wheel, electric powered trains, racing vehicles...)
Yellow -- Very simple play-doh toys -- Stuffed pets, guides, discs, CD's, balls, cars and trucks, pickups, dolls...
Reddish -- Really small, cheap toys toys -- minimal cars and trucks, steps figures -- we authorized almost anything
We experienced coupon codes in each of the a number of colours. As we rated a play-doh toys and put a sticker on it we place a corresponding tinted voucher into that family's envelope. Shoshana and that i fundamentally composed the rates while we moved alongside. We tried to be reasonable, nonetheless it was actually challenging. It didn't definitely matter. Once someone took that play doh toys from their residence they didn't really care what its price was.
The same day from the peppa kids toys Exchange
We got a bit of girls (about 14 years old) to support. We handed out the envelopes together with the vouchers to each household. However individuals obtained moved cartons filled with pig toy, they were even now astonished at just how many discount coupons their child now experienced available for use to obtain new peppa kids toy.
We set up furniture throughout the three edges of your space, every single with tablecloths the shades of your discount coupon. Most of the play doh toys with crimson decals ended up put on a crimson table within the crimson nook...
At the crimson kitchen table (the best colour) it is possible to only buy having a purple voucher. At the natural dinner table (another ranking), you can purchase with a earth-friendly discount coupon or even a crimson coupon. At the red desk (the minimum position) you may use any shade when a red-colored discount coupon can only be applied at the green dining room table. We had indicators each and every desk itemizing what shade you should use.
There was no option of integrating discounts to increase a better get ranked, no "transform" was given when you applied a greater colour for a reduced kitchen table. When you didn't see some thing you preferred in the purple kitchen table, you could use your crimson promotion at the decrease placed table. A son or daughter who wanted a doll (yellow-colored) didn't attention they were purchasing it by using a Monopoly video game (purple).
The exchange worked well magnificently. We couldn't believe it. Things I believe caused it to be job very well was that hardly any mothers put up all around. This can seem foolish, but adults amount the value of a thing on its monetary benefit. Your children rated it on its "enjoy value". A purple discount coupon (maybe Monopoly) for a case of marbles (discolored) crafted a tiny boy very happy. May sound like a very good change if you ask me. There have been so many play doh toy involved plus the kids had palms full of "income". Everybody was content (except perhaps not the mums when their children came up residence with loads much more play doh videos toys to replace the people they had just cleared out).
We finished the day by using a magic reveal. Then absolutely everyone went home to have fun with all of their "new" play doh peppa pig kids toy.
Epilogue
We did one more play doh peppa pig toy Change 3 years later on (this period we made it happen prior to Passover, whenever people were actually cleanup out their properties (or spring cleaning)). Some of the peppa toy came with our decals in it coming from the prior play-doh toys Swap. These play-doh toy got discovered a new little one to play using them for 3 yrs, now had been operational residence with even one more child.
