Nie Mingjue's Fatal Journey crying scenes appreciation post
There's no way I wouldn't make this post, but it ended up way longer than I intended.
Fighting with Huaisang
Tumblr media
When is this man not tearing up?
This fight is so important for Huaisang's character development and the movie's themes, with Huaisang being ready to challenge and question the Nie ways and Mingjue doing his best to uphold those traditions and keep the peace through the only way he knows how.
But it's still hard to be challenged like this and to face the possibility that everything you've ever known might not be right, actually.
And this gif specifically is from the moment Huaisang questions if Mingjue even knows what they're there to fight and what this supposed great evil that will come to Qinghe if they fail to balance their blades even is. Mingjue has no answer, of course, I suppose he was only taught this and never had reason to question it.
But Huaisang is also talking about the disciples they already 'lost' at this point of the movie, and he says something along the lines of " You don't know anything, you only know how to bring them here to die" and that does it. Because it's both "you can't follow these rules blindly when they rely on sacrificing people" and "you've changed and I don't trust your judgement on these matters anymore".
And as he says it, Mingjue looks at their disciples and he sees the puppets for a moment. And Huaisang just questioned if the other disciples were really attacked by puppets.
So that's a big moment and Huaisang is right, of course, but he doesn't have a confirmation that this is the result of Mingjue's health deterioration yet, so he keeps pushing. And Mingjue doesn't really have a counter argument because he knows what's going on with him, but it must be very scary to hear it from the person you care about the most and realize just how much you're being affected.
(Actually, Mingjue has one counter argument and that is "Well, I am at least trying to do something while you're painting and living a carefree life", and he's not wrong either. Huaisang is right and rightfully harsh, but this is the first time he's being confronted with these difficult choices and all their family history. He can reflect on and question it, but his brother has been meking those hard decisions since he was 14, when did he ever had a break to question and change things?)
Which leads us to
The Talk
Tumblr media
After seeing his brother sacrifice himself for him at the bridge, and then seeing Mingjue be so vulnerable and lost, that anger from their fight is gone. They can meet in the middle with "You are right, I wasn't thinking straight, this is not a long term solution and I've failed at changing our ways" and "It's not your fault, you did everything you could but you're not responsible for this situation" and it's very beautiful and heartbreaking.
Mingjue is so remorseful, both because he has condemned Huaisang to die with him and because he feels like he failed everyone and everything (even if he doesn't seem to know what he could have done differently to avoid all this).
And Huaisang's reaction in this scene is so calm it made me think this Huaisang is somewhat used to his brother displaying vulnerability around him. This isn't book NMJ with all his victories, this isn't a man who never let the Unclean Realm be conquered and who could afford to keep Huaisang far away from the war. This is a man who was attacked and subdued in his own home, who had to send Huaisang to the hands of the people who killed their father.
This Huaisang doesn't have reasons to see Mingjue as this unmovable force, he has seen Mingjue hurt and threatened and fearful; and he's now seeing him remorseful and defeated.
(I'm sure Mingjue telling Huaisang about the fact that he's dying and admiting his mistakes and insecurities is something new, especially considering their previous fight, but this Huaisang doesn't take it as a shock, because he knows his brother is only human and there's only so much he can handle. He even, like, explicitly says this)
And so he assumes this calm, reassuring and empathetic posture, because that's what his brother is asking for. And it's the most beautiful thing, Huaisang has so much love for him, so much empathy. And this is Mingjue's reaction to his brother's reassurance that it's okay if they have to die there:
Tumblr media
I'm sure Huaisang is still processing Mingjue's "I only forced you to practice because I'll die soon", but he's so good at reassuring his brother.
Because Mingjue just told him "I am dying and I'll go as a failure" and Huaisang insisted "None of this is your fault and you did everything you could and more, and if I have to die here with you today, I don't regret a thing, and you shouldn't either".
There's no despair or anger that his brother is only telling him this now, there's only understanding and acceptance and so much love and they really knew what they were doing with this movie.
His people love him
Tumblr media
Mingjue is so moved. He just admitted to Huaisang that he's not in peace with his accomplishments, or lack thereof; that he feels ashamed to face his ancestors, having done so little.
So I truly believe Mingjue doesn't consider himself worthy of this much trust and support. (And I can't ignore how this is tied to the Nightless City situation, where he led the men who trusted him with their lives to a dangerous situation and couldn't save any of them).
As we see in the confrontation at Jinlintai, that technically happens after this movie, that is still a very sensitive topic.
Tumblr media
And here he has his loyal disciples saying they will follow him yet again, despite his previous 'failures'; just like Huaisang was ready to die with him. They have so much trust in him, and the way he's nodding a little here, just like he was nodding when Huaisang reminded him of everything he's done for their sect since their father died, is like he's convincing himself of it. That he can do this and he can do this right this time.
And yet
Tumblr media
He fails again. And I don't even think he knows it was him who killed those disciples, like some people say. He doesn't need to because it doesn't matter. His men, who followed him till the end of the world, are dead again. And so is the hope he had of doing this one right thing before he dies.
Yes, he supressed the saber spirit like he had to, but they're still dead, all of them.
He falls apart, how could he not?
Tumblr media
At some point I'm sure Huaisang his holding all his weight because he just gives up. There's only so much loss one can handle and that's way too much.
And look at the way Huaisang is watching him as he realizes something inside Mingjue shattered forever.
Tumblr media
There's so much pain in this scene, it looks physically taxing and I hope people gave Wang Yizhou a break after he shot this. I know it's his job and he's phenomenal at it, but this has to mess with your head a little.
And hey, it's a Huaisang crying scene as well. CQL Huaisang only really cries twice. First he watches his brother have a mental breakdown in his arms after unknowingly killing his own disciples; and then as he watches his brother qi deviate and die, while unable to do anything to either stop or comfort him.
(And a lot of people said there's no hesitation on Huaisang's part when he rushes to his brother's aid when Mingjue is hurt on this post's notes, and that's true for book Huaisang too, because he runs towards Mingjue as he is qi deviating, gets hurt in the process, and still keeps calling for him, which makes CQL's decision to have JGY holding him back kind of cruel, tbh, there's not a Huaisang who would run from a hurting Mingjue regardless of the risks
But at least we have this scene.)
And that's it, I guess. There's nothing uplifting to say about this, really. He just went through a lot and kept shouldering everything until he couldn't anymore. I just wish book NMJ had gotten to receive the same love and comfort and acceptance from NHS before he died, I wish he had been able to tell his brother what was actually happening, but thats kind of the purpose of this movie, so I'm just very grateful that it exists.
It's like that post says, it didn't change anything but the love was there, you know? That's how this movie feels for me.

fictional girls who should have been gay
Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck, from the 2004 "Micky, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers" animated movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The situation: GAY
Princess and lady-in-waiting. Is there anything more intimate and potentially gay than a girl and the girl who she specifically keeps around just to officially hang out with? I don't care I love it.
they are the most romantic thing in this movie
Their introduction scene is Minnie sighing over her future love (hypothetical and male and not necessarily royal) while blowing flower petals in Daisy's face
Tumblr media
Daisy has reservations
Tumblr media
but when Minnie is explaining True Love to her (while they hold hands and twirl around the room)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Minnie says she'll know her true love because she'll hear music (sentimental music is now playing) and they'll make her laugh- AND THEN DAISY LAUGHS
Tumblr media
she starts saying that sounds silly...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but Minnie looks at her, and flutters her eyes at her...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and Daisy just MELTS. She clasps her hands over her heart and switches to sighing that that sounds lovely...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
who drew and directed that and didn't notice how much it looks like Daisy just fell in love with Minnie. hey. I want to know
did they realize they could've had Daisy staring at something else?
a painting of young lovers. a couple passing by the window. even the sad bedraggled flower Minnie had been using for a game of he-loves-me-he-loves-me-not
(i cannot get over how the flower wilts the last time we see it, right after Minnie says "trust me Daisy, I'll know him, when I see him)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I understand it's meant to be like, oh look the flower looks like Micky now she'll know him when she sees him- but it could also look like HER, Minnie is talking to Daisy about true love and knowing it when it's there but oh the IRONY if Daisy was in love with HER while she says that!!! With Minnie having no idea!!!!)
anyway
how about just not have Minnie flutter her eyelashes at Daisy like that
have HER not be looking at Daisy when she's talking about true love
anything. anything else would have worked better
Well apparently none of those options occurred to the film makers because these girls are supposed to be STRAIGHT somehow
(Minnie, princess of prolonged held eye contact)
Tumblr media
(and Daisy, lady of keeps having to look away when Minnie is staring at her Like That)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moments later, after a montage of Minnie strolling around the gardens dreaming of love (to the tune of a song about young love), an attempt on her life is thwarted by DAISY asking her to come over for a moment, moving Minnie out of the path of a falling safe meant to crush her
(by the way, holy heck it feels honestly scary. it just. DROPS)
The song lyric leading up to Daisy calling out for Minnie is "Your first your only love~! Love so-" (can't hear properly)
Minnie being willing to leave her daydreams of love for Daisy no questions asked is what saves her actual literal life I'm sorry but again why did they think having Daisy being the reason she lives was so important. This is a Micky Mouse cartoon legit just have Minnie stand up on her own and wander out of harm's way or get distracted by a flower or something but NOOOOO it's DAISY who unknowingly gets her out of danger, it's Minnie listening to her that saves her. ARGH IT COULD HAVE MEANT SO MUCH BUT
Minnie has actual whole conversations with Daisy. Actual. Talking. Sharing of thoughts and opinions. Chances to see their personalities and how they play off each other.
Princess Minnie, the slightly head in the clouds princess, and Daisy, grounded and a bit dry
Minnie: He loves me. He loves me… a lot. He loves me. He loves me even moooore. He loves me...
Daisy: Pardon me, Your Highness… (blows some free-floating petals off her face) you‘re, kinda mangling that flower.
like there's this set up for Minnie being rebellious enough to reject tradition and rules, being annoyed at them for cramping her style
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daisy: This, fantasy man- (the exasperation on those two words XD), d'you happen to know if he's royalty?
Minnie: Does it matter?
Daisy, breathlessly: Well, as you know, someone of your, royal stature, needs to be courted by a gentleman of royal blood.
Minnie: What a royal pain.
Tumblr media
It's supposed to be about getting with a commoner instead, but... HMM I WONDER WHAT OTHER SOCIAL EXPECTATIONS MINNIE COULD BREAK.
A gentleman of royal blood? Well what if it's not! A gentleman!!
Minnie: Daisy, I can't marry someone I'm not in love with.
Daisy: You want love? Buy a dog.
the delicious set up as Daisy as jaded and practical BUT moments later she can't help herself with Minnie, she can't ruin Minnie's little happy bubble, she can't keep pushing Minnie away from her dream
When Minnie gazes at her all warm and mushy, Daisy has to giggle and admit that the idea of a true love who makes you laugh is just Lovely, actually
she says, while staring back at Minnie
WRITERS I WANT TO TALK WITH YOU I JUST WANT TO CHAT
but anyway, they have a flow, a rapport, they play off each other and clearly care about each other and, meanwhile, M e a n w h i l e
meanwhile, nearly all the time Minnie spends "being in love" with Micky is done in silent daydream episodes where they float on clouds and stuff. They get a montage of vague cute stuff. It's a whole lot of Nothing. Very pretty! But nothing
They see each other and it's supposed to be love at first sight. Whee. I'd find it cute if Minnie didn't already have someone and Micky wasn't mostly focused on being a good Musketeer. What do they give each other? They hardly even TALK! At the end of the movie I still have no idea how they'd get through a simple conversation! As a crush sure it reads fine- but true love? Where? When????
MOMENTS after meeting and "falling for" Micky, Minnie is yelling at him and his friends, furious because they accidently attacked Daisy thinking she was a threat
Tumblr media Tumblr media
wow good job showing us Minnie's priorities here. Good job showing us she cares about Daisy
Tumblr media
good job not using that to let her and Micky like, talk, or anything
Daisy, meanwhile, spends the whole movie with 0% interest in Donald at all, nothing but burns and scorn, only getting with him in the last moments literally just because why not
As in that's honestly the reason the movie gives. Not that she likes him. Just. Why not.
my eye is twitching
MINNIE LOVES THE IDEA OF A FORBIDDON LOVE!
SHE SAYS, SHE SAYS-
Minnie: Our love is, forbidden?
Daisy: Bin-go~
Minnie: A forbidden love? How romantic...!
girl you've had 1 (ONE) interaction with "the little one" like props to you for liking a short king but hey, heeey, this is so not selling the love vibes ok
GUESS WHAT OTHER LOVE WOULD BE FORBIDDEN
HMM I WONDER
Tumblr media
Minnie: Look, Daisy. Mickey and I have the same last name!
Daisy: Well, it must be destiny. Good thing destiny doesn’t control my love life.
(daisy being practical jaded or daisy using code for 'yeeeah, im prim and proper in everything else, but im going against the flow when it comes to romance)
Minnie: What do you mean?
Daisy: Well, look at me! If it did, I’d get stuck with Mister… (squawking and babbling)
Minnie & Daisy: (laughing together)
Tumblr media
hey remember how Minnie laughed when Micky rolled a nat 0 trying to untie her and the narrator was like "Oh he made her laugh! It must be love!"
remember when Daisy makes Minnie laugh with a Donald Duck impersonation? While they were in bed together??
NARRATOR IF A LAUGH IS ALL IT TAKES THEN CHIME IN PLEASE
Do You Remember when Micky and co failed and Minnie was kidnapped by badguys and Micky had a moment of slump before getting his second wind? Was he motivated by thoughts of his True Love? Was he thinking of Minnie when he decided not to give up on saving her??
NO.
he was looking at his friends being sad.
He encourages himself thinking about how the captain of the guard chose him and his friends to be musketeers
No Mention Of Minnie At All, Aside From A Quest To Be Cleared
wow much love such devotion
The point of Micky's story is him wanting to be a Musketeer. The emotional climax is always between him and his two friends. THE ROMANCE IS SO WEIRD IT DOES NOTHING AND COMES FROM NOTHING AND GOES NOWHERE.
Minnie has no character growth no obstacles nothing to do. she was ready to throw tradition aside for the man of her dreams the moment we saw her-
IMAGINE the crunchiness if she had either a moment of "wait actually, i think he's cute but this isn't love" OR "hey wait all this time I've been dreaming of a guy maybe it's not a guy though? Tee hee let's destroy some more social norms!"
(don't for the love of all things bring up lines of succession this is alternate universe france in the 1600-1700's there is a Lot To Gloss Over Okay)
And Daisy is RIGHT THERE.
Tumblr media
Not interested in guys! Sighing over Minnie! Staying with her throughout the whole movie because apparently you can't kidnap the princess without her lady in waiting!
RAAAGH. I know, I know Disney and gay don't mix, especially in 2004- but why why why why did they think Minnie had to be with Micky in this one? Why did they make the emptiest crush ever instead of just letting Minnie and Daisy chill up on the throne dais together? IM IN PAIN EVERY TIME I REWATCH THIS.
tldr: Daisy was in love with princess Minnie, and if Minnie had known she's the exact sort of rebel princess to just marry her lady-in-waiting like a boss

Hey there! I was wondering if you could write about a female reader, traveling with the batch. She suffers from anxiety and depression, coming in phases. There are good and bad days, but she manages to keep it to herself, until she has a really terrible one. And she has feelings for Tech and the other way around, but they haven't addressed it yet, and he is the one realizing something is off with her, trying to comfort her. Some Angst/Fluff stuff... Please? ❤
Hm, this one hits home. Ouch. Sure I can, I actually love the opportunity to comfort myself while writing, especially with Tech 😋😅
Let me see what I can do for us you 😊
Tech x Fem!Reader - The Lowest Low
Tumblr media
Warnings: Angst/Mention Of Anxiety/Mention And Description Of Depression Symptoms/Panic Attack/Comfort/Fluff/Soft, Shy, Gentle Tech
____________
Until now, you have always been able to hide it, but suddenly the deepest low in a long time hits you, and you can't hide it anymore. Tech tries to understand what's going on with you.
_____________
Tumblr media
So far you have always been able to prevent it, to hide it, even from Hunter. You always withdrew in time when the bad episodes came, you have learned to act by now, to pretend that everything is wonderful, while inside you feel panic, fear, and a deep inexplicable, lonely sadness.
But this one episode is particularly horrible. You blew the last job, a panic attack overtook you, threw you off track, and forced you to retreat. Much to the surprise of the guys, who looked after you in complete bewilderment as you simply cleared the field. This time, none of your breathing exercises or mental retreats helped.
Your back is tense, your muscles tight as if expecting to take a punch at any moment. Your fingers stiffen, a feeling of pressure on your chest, one uncomfortable goose bump after another chases across your body.
A lump forms in your throat and a slaying wave of sadness washes over you. This helpless feeling is awful, you feel guilty of just ditching the guys, on such a simple mission. Nothing special happened, not that you can remember, no specific trigger.
You feel burning pressure behind the bridge of your nose and eyes, tears held back. Your cramped fingers cling to the collar of your shirt as if expecting to be strangled by the fabric at any moment.
The air you breathe is like lead, heavy on your body and hard to get into your lungs. You feel dizzy. An all-encompassing fear has you in its grip, the feeling of being helplessly exposed to everything around you is overpowering. You want to scream, but it seems there isn't even enough air to breath.
You are trembling, your breathing is irregular and heavy. You have retreated to a quiet corner, somewhere behind the landing pad of the Marauder. You are so preoccupied with your condition that you don't hear someone approaching.
Startled, you look up, your heart almost stopping as you hear Tech say your name.
He's standing there, for the first time in a long time not holding the datapad, his helmet tucked under his right arm.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. Are you not feeling well? You're pale and look tense, almost panicked."
You feel a single tear run down your face, then a second, but your expression is strangely blank, you feel it yourself.
Tech is looking at you, obviously trying to understand what's going on with you, to make sense of your behavior.
You never wanted anyone to see you like this, especially not Tech. But you sense that the cat is out of the bag, and any white lie would only make him feel like you don't trust him.
"No, Tech," you say softly, "I'm not feeling well."
He blinks, standing there indecisively for a moment. He glances over his shoulder as if to make sure the two of you are really alone. Finally, he looks at you again and asks, "May I come closer?"
You manage to smile at him and nod.
"Of course, I always like having you near me".
A small smile twitches at the corners of his mouth, then he moves closer and sits next to you with some courtesy distance, his long legs bent. Tech sets his helmet down on the ground beside him and looks at you.
"Is there anything I can do to help?"
You sigh softly and say, "I don't see how. That's something I don't want to burden you with."
He frowns thoughtfully and says, "It's not a burden. All I see is a person I care about suffering, and I want to counteract that. You said you like having me around, the feeling is mutual. Maybe I can help you in some way with my presence?"
You smile, feeling touched by how cautiously Tech approaches the matter, although he usually wants to go straight to the point.
You swallow nervously, smile cautiously, and ask him, "Would you mind holding my hand?"
Tech blinks in surprise, he seems a little shy, but he moves a little closer and gently grips your hand with his, closing your fingers with gentle pressure.
He thinks for a while, then says thoughtfully, "You need contact, with something or someone that will give you security, peace, safety, an anchor that will ground you, so you can get out of this slump you seem to be in."
You nod and breathe a sigh of relief, the pressure on your chest slowly easing. You block out the irrationally felt fear, feeling less exposed.
"That's why I asked you to hold my hand," you say softly.
Tech tightens his shoulders, sits up a little straighter and smiles, a very gentle, shy, but sincere smile.
"I'm honored," he says, squeezing your hand a tiny bit tighter to emphasize his presence at your side.
You slowly take a few deeper breaths, a few more tears running down your cheeks.
"Isn't it getting better?" he asks, concerned.
Your smile widens a bit, though tears are still streaming down your face.
"Oh yes it is, that's the relief, Tech. That… Tension I've been feeling has been exceedingly intense, all consuming. When it subsides, it's so relieving that I cry sometimes."
He blinks, thinking about what you said, trying to understand.
"It must be scary to feel that intensely," he says thoughtfully.
You nod in agreement.
"Yes, very much so. But there are sometimes very special bright spots that I would never want to miss"
Surprised, he looks at you.
"Such as?"
You feel warmth rise in your tear-stained cheeks as you say, "What I feel for you is intense, too. The joy of your presence or your attention. The peace and security you radiate to me. The incredible affection I feel when I see you smile."
Tech blinks several times in a row, as if he needs to reload his system. His ears turn red, and he looks shyly away to the side.
"Oh," he says softly.
You swallow, afraid you might scare him off, but he's still gently holding your hand, making no move to let you go.
You clear your throat carefully, wanting to say something else, but not daring to. After a while of quiet, Tech breaks the silence that has developed.
"You like me," he says softly, almost in a whisper, like a statement he can't quite grasp yet.
"Yes, indeed."
His eyes dart briefly in your direction with a quick smirk, then he glances shyly at his shoes again.
"Do you like me, too?" you ask softly.
His ears seem to get even redder.
"You could certainly put it that way, yes," he says with a nervous clearing of his throat.
His comm beeps and Hunter's voice is heard, "How's it looking? Is our girl okay?"
Tech glances at you briefly before answering, "She's doing better, but it's recommended to give her some more quiet time."
Hunter says understandingly, "Okay, take your time".
You realize that Hunter, of all of them, probably noticed the most when your low overtook you.
Tech barely noticeably moves a little closer, his thumb stroking your hand that he is still holding.
"Would you do me a favor?" he asks seriously.
"Of course."
He looks directly at you and says, "If you feel like this again, give me a sign, come to me. If it helps you, I always like to hold your hand. Maybe, long hugs will help too?"
Your heart really jumps out to him as you see the gentle expression on his face.
"I'd love to, Tech."
After a brief pause, he asks, "How are you feeling now?"
"Much better."
He raises his brows and asks, "Are you sure? Maybe we should try a hug just to test if it works"
You smile, having to suppress a grin.
"Now that you mention it, maybe we really should."
He moves closer, letting go of your hand. A bit over-cautious and awkward, he puts first one then the other arm around you. But as you lean against him, his embrace naturally adjusts to your posture.
"That's good," he says, "I mean, that should certainly help."
You grin contentedly to yourself, all at once very happy, at least for the moment.
"That's really very good, Tech"

hi! regarding your last post about abandoning projects, do you have any advice for overcoming that?
I do!
1. Write something you're passionate about.
Now, I get that everyone constantly says that, and you'll think, "that tells me absolutely nothing" bc passion can only get you so far and usually fluctuates a lot. It's something I've started to realize happens to me. One day I wake up and have a new idea I love and think "wow this is gonna be a piece of cake to finish" despite me knowing it's going to entail a lot of planning and once I get the inital idea out of the way and get to that planning stage my attention for the project... dies.
What I mean with that is to write something you're passionate about is that you shouldn't write something into the project you feel like others will like. Or if it's a project with tropes in it, that you have to follow those to the T.
If an idea is boring, don't write it.
If you have a cool idea that might not fit the vibe entirely, write it down. Keep it in mind for later when it could fit the vibe better.
Incorporate as many things you love as you like and then worry about how the broader plot can shape around them.
2. Don't write in order of what's supposed to happen.
I know it'll make you feel better to feel like you have a clear point A to B but truth is, some parts are going to be extremely boring to write. You won't want to write all about the logistics of a scene happening right that moment or the spicy dialogue that carries the scene bc you're way more focused on another detail that drew you to write a particular scene.
In those cases, I usually just put whatever is supposed to happen in brackets [insert car chase here] and move on the bits I'm excited to get to. You might wake up a couple of days later thinking you want to revisit that car chase scene and write it all in one go now that you've stopped obsessing over a different scene you cared for before.
3. Make the experience more fun for yourself.
If you feel like you're burning out and losing steam from writing and planning the project, take a step back and do something else.
If I still feel like doing something with the project that isn't necessarily write it, I tend to end up making edits or a playlist or looking for inspiration pictures that might give me an idea of a new setting or what a character will look like. And that's what usually keeps my brain working and thinking about the plot.
As soon as another idea pops into my head bc of the space I took not writing the projects itself, I write it down and get reinspired to work on it.
4. Look for inspiration.
As mentioned in 3., I can't recommend enough to look for inspiration in pictures or boards on pinterest or a song or a quote you really love. Trust me, seeing a cool picture or reading a quote that immediately makes you think of a specific character makes you itch to get back to writing.
It also allows your writing to grow when you take the time to look for inspiration. Writing everything in one go might make you feel productive but the quality could potentially decline the longer you're at it and when you come back to it you'll ask yourself what the hell you were on writing some of the stuff. So taking that time, finding new locations/side characters/some dialogue snippets you could incorporate, will make you feel excited to actually see those ideas and inspirations become part of your project.
5. Take breaks.
This is another one of those things you always hear and think, "that's what leads me to abandon it in the first place??" and while I agree (been there) It's also important not to get burned out by the project.
The breaks shouldn't span entire weeks, of course, but don't beat yourself up when you can't get to the project for a couple of days bc of life happening or something else being more interesting.
Taking those breaks ensures you not only build anticipation, but it also let's the project breathe and allows you the space, to again, think of the broader plot or a specific scene that could be cool to incorporate.
6. Find someone to talk about the project with.
In our day and age, we're lucky to have such big writer communities. Chances are, someone out there will get aboslute brain rot from the project you're working on. Talking to people like that will not only allow you to have someone to bounce ideas off of, but it'll also keep you focused and in a way, hold you accountable to actually see it get to a point you can and want to share more.
Starting up a WIP blog, like the one I and many others have, or a writerblr blog will attract people to the idea and have them reach out to ask questions that again keep you thinking about fun parts of the project and develope the idea.
I have a friend I constantly talk to about every idea he and I get. Not all of them ever see the light of day, but we talk about them, send ideas we think could be cool, and write small snippets of scenes bc we are excited about the project. That not only gets you to a starting point, but also makes the planning way smoother and means you're getting instant feedback.
And that's what usually gets you to write more instead of watching your project collect dust in the drafts.
7. Write every single idea down.
This is also something everyone says, but it's true. Chances are, you forget the idea and kick yourself for it later or you think it won't be as good as you imagine it and then you have a missing scene you don't know what to do with where that idea could have fit.
Sometimes, usually just before bed for me, I get ideas, and since I have my phone close by, I just open the notes app, write down the snippet of a conversation I just thought of or a cool detail I'll add when I get back to the file and BOOM I have the next plot point figured out without actively forcing myself to sit in front of the computer and thinking "what is supposed to happen now??"
Even if the idea is silly or seems wack, I can't recommend writing it down enough. You'll thank yourself for it and in a way train yourself into passively thinking about what could happen next.
I have a dedicated page in my files just for random ideas I got in the middle of the night and while some will not make it into the draft itself, it's still fun to think about them or even write a short scene involving the idea just to see where it goes. Maybe it'll inspire you to take your project into a new exciting direction, too!
8. Don't obsess over word counts/progress made.
It's a recent shift I've noticed, where people obsessively focus on how long a scene/chapter is. Like one being 5k long means it's somehow better than a scene that's only a couple hundred words long, but concise and has the kind of structure that keeps you engaged.
If you feel like a scene is done and you're happy with it, even if it's short, leave it. Maybe you'll come back to it and add more, but maybe you'll realize it's perfect the way it is and doesn't need unnecessary details added.
9. Don't get lost in the details.
This is something I've neen prone to do. Obsessing over a single detail or scene to the point that working on it becomes exhausting because I couldn't move on.
It's what kills your drive to write on the project fairly quickly and relates to the point I made to just put whatever is supposed to happen in brackets to revisit later.
The details are usually what make the story feel personalized, but it's also so easy to get lost in them. Writing the broader scene down and revisiting it sometime later to add those details is going to keep you writing and engaged with what you want to make the project into.
10. It's YOUR project, don't forget that.
Sometimes I've started things I thought were fics or stories I'd love to explore only to realize I'm not the best writer for those or that the writing part just isn't as fun as I hoped it could be.
You need to be aware of when to cut your losses. If the project starts to feel more like a drag than what you initially started with, scrap it OR, and this is something I've started to seriously do, is to rewrite/re-plot it from the beginning.
It is time-consuming, but you'll feel better for it in the long run if you take the bits you like and forget the ones you don't and build the project anew. It's tedious but really rewarding once you manage to get to the parts that were there before discouraging you from finishing the project in the first place. And the most important thing is that you're happy with your project.
Of course, what works for me might not work for others, but those are some of the broader things I can recommend you try :) I hope I was able to help a little!

Actually. While I have a moment. This will not be my best analytical work but I have been going mad over a particular dialogue that Daniil can have with a Town Man, two specific sections which occur when they discuss the Kains.
Man: What do you think of the Kains?
Player: I have a soft spot for resolute, outstanding, and bold people. Their kind is rare nowadays.
Man: You're right... the Kains are conquerors by nature. They fear nothing. They're up in arms and ready to overthrow any rules, any dogmas, any taboos. You have that in common with them, don't you? Well... every coin has a flip side.
Player: And what is that?
Man: The Kains are insane. Possessed, like lead performers on the stage. They're cruel; without a moment's hesitation they would sacrifice anything in the world to achieve their brilliant goals. To their credit, their sacrificial list always starts with themselves. lt has always been that way.
An alright firstly I adore this simply because it is rather delightful characterization but ! What really interests me here is the man characterizing Daniil as the Kains' flip side, because I think it's interesting the characterize Daniil through the Kains and vice versa; that both here and with Daniil we see the pattern of cruelty or disregard that is accompanied by a penchant for self-sacrifice, and I have always adored this line for likewise framing the Kains as conquerors, just as Daniil. That alignment with the utopians and conquest isn't subtle or novel, given the. You know. Conquering nature, but still ! The poetic hubris of it all !
Anyway. A second dialogue option plays out thus:
Man: What do you think of the Kains?
Player: Nothing good, I suppose. Their notion of communication is rather annoying.
Man:  It is. And their policies are peculiar as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to sell the idea to you... I only know that they are very fond of you. It's not easy to win their favour like that.
Player:  Really? And how did I win it?
Man: Thanks to Maria, I guess. She has that supernatural intuition of hers, her mother's heritage. She can feel the resolve within you, she can read your intentions; that makes her believe that you're going to help us all.
I actually had recently been bothered by how quickly the Kains latched on to Daniil (Simon and Nina saying that they love him on Day 11 lmao), and assumed that Maria had foreseen his actions but. This kind of compels me more, the suggestion that she did not see his future but just his resolve and intentions, that it's less about his actual actions and instead what he is capable of doing. I find that far more delectable, because in truth I am often a little bored by visions and fate, the idea that the Kains just Saw Daniil preserving the Polyhedron. It also suggests more agency within Daniil's character, more choice; as for the Kains, I still find it a little odd that they are so willing to entrust themselves to Daniil based upon Maria's intuition; it feels almost like desperation, which I prefer to read in here. Honestly I think it could equally just be that they trust Maria that much, and Maria trusts herself, but again I find it more fun to imagine that they are desperate and have staked their future on Daniil. WAIT WAIT I JUST REALIZED. AN EVEN MORE DELECTABLE PARALLEL. Do you see what I am seeing. Daniil staked his life on Simon Kain and Simon Kain staked his life on Daniil !!!!

Ep7 Siuan Changes
I'm going to preface this by mentioning this is going to be full book spoilers. Also, while this may read as a defense, it's less of that and more of an exploration of the changes made and what avenues that they open up going forward in a way to internalize what happened in the show and to look for silver linings. I'm not really SOLD on the big change here. But so far the show has shown that they're usually thinking ahead on these changes so I'll just have to wait and see. Book spoilers here on.
Part The First - This episode was bigly about making the hard choices you think are right. Anvaere does it with Barthanes, talks about how that's Moiraine operates. And nothing Siuan says is incorrect. Moiraine absolutely failed in her part. And instead of changing tack (sailing metaphor), or at least telling Siuan so they can come up with someone else to take her place, she hid that knowledge and tried to go it alone. Part Deux - Character Involvement. The books in general, and this show especially, is being driven by our attachment to the characters. Later on in the series, when Siuan is helping Egwene become the Amyrlin, she mentions her failings. How she just ran roughshod over people. By doing things the way they did in the show, it's a lot more direct. When (if) she says something like that in the show, we're going to remember that scene specifically because of how much it impacts Moiraine and Siuan as people. Number Three - In the books, the tower coup comes as a surprise. That seemed a very extreme reaction. In the show, it'll be easier to show exactly how it goes down. She even spells it out. "Tower law says we cage the Dragon Reborn". Well, she failed. Now the Coup is going to be a direct result of stuff we saw on screen. Gone Too Far Four - To me, the tower split was very much set up as a good guy/bad guy split. The deposing of Siuan happened under circumstances that went against tower rules in the vote to remove her, and so everyone who stayed is already compromised. Weather out of fear, or a feeling that a whole tower is more important in these times, every Aes Sedai who stayed compromised themselves. How they all deal with those feelings and whatever self deceptions they use, happens a lot in their heads. Which is harder to do on a TV show. This way, it's clear. Now when the split happens, they can do it along the lines of "While Siuan was deposed legally, we really don't think a Red should be Amyrlin just right now, she is definitely going to fuck this up". Which is a lot easier to explain on screen and paint a group with a wide brush. 4.5 - Very similar to 4 but in a legally distinct manner, once the tower is healed, in the books, a big part of bringing them together is Egwene making the rebels apologize for rebelling. Which always seemed like a weird cop out to me. In the books, as I mentioned, the split seemed very much a goodguy/badguy split. And this solution is just some posturing that seemed very centrist in a "Doesn't acknowledge the actual problem but makes a bunch of people feel better" kind of way. By making it an idealogical split, the rebels actually would be rebels. So this scene would play off better.
Five - A part of Siuan's later story is her coming to grips with her failure. And while, yes it is true the captain of a ship that mutinies is 100% responsible for that mutiny, we never really see the lead up to it in the books. Now, we're there with her as she does it. Should she have trusted Moiraine like she had almost her whole life? Should she have remembered how to embrace Saidar and realized she can't force the water? (In this part i'm pretty sure it's no accident that she compares Rand to the Water that Turns the Wheel). These are things we'll be seeing her wrestle with in the future. Maybe.

Ain't no sunshine like you (Legend)
Pairing: Legend x Sunshine! Reader
Genre: Fluff, idiots in love, get together
Rating: T for cursing (Like three times)
Summary: You are sunshine incarnate, rarely upset and often cheerful. Friendly to everyone. Legend- well he's a prickly bastard but we love him. When you go to Sky for advice instead of Legend- legend feels like he's done something wrong. You end up confessing after your talk with Sky- and Legend quickly realizes that he has a real shot at happiness with you.
Warnings: Angst- Legend thinks he's not good enough for you (It's okay you fix his little red wagon)
------
Legend knows he's abrasive. Okay? He doesn't need anyone to tell him that. And even if he does have a soft spot for you specifically- no one would guess.
(They all know all of them but you. But that's not something we talk about.)
But you seem to think he's great even with his faults, seeking him out first when you need anything. So... Seeing you go to Sky first this time hurts... A lot.
Did he do something wrong? Had he upset you? Legend doesn't think so... But he still goes through every interaction between you and him over the last week.
He comes up short- Legend can't think of anything he's done wrong.
He turns his gaze to you and Sky- both standing on the edge of camp as the fire starts to really burn.
Fireflies flicker around the group, chilled air welcome after the heat wave the day had been.
You stand with a look of fear on your face, cheeks coloring as you say something in a hushed whisper to Sky.
Sky just laughs, setting his hand on your shoulder gently.
You shake your head, whispering more urgently.
Legend just sighs heavily.
"You're down bad." A voice says as someone sits beside him.
Legend turns, finding Warriors staring at him with a knowing look.
"What are you on about now?" Legend asks.
"(Y/n). You're glaring holes into Sky."
"I am not."
"Whatever you say, Vet." Warriors says, sounding far too amused for the situation.
"You just don't get it." Legend huffs.
"Get what? That you like them?"
"What? No. I just- it's weird to see them go to someone else for things."
"I bet it is." Warriors says, biting back a smile.
"Whatever."
.......
You find yourself arguing with Sky over the dumbest thing. It's not even heated! You just wanted some advice about your feelings and Sky seems like he has some good advice.
So you had fought the urge to go to Legend, instead going to Sky and asking, "Hey- can you help me figure something out?"
Sky turns to you, looking up from the master sword, "Yeah, sure. What's up?"
"I want to tell someone I like them."
"Legend, right?"
"Yeah... How did you know?"
"Everyone knows." Sky says gently, "Everyone but Legend at least."
"I'm not that obvious!" You declare, "And can we go a little further away?"
Sky stands, setting the master sword against a stump, "Sure."
You lead Sky to the edge of camp, trying not to look at Legend.
Sky stops when you do, smiling, "So... How do you want to tell him?"
"I don't know! I'm not even sure he likes me back." You say, looking to Sky for help.
"Really?" Sky asks, wondering if he was this dense himself.
"Yeah! And I feel bad- I rely on him a lot after nightmares or when I don't get something... He's basically the only person I ask for help!"
"And he helps you every time. Trust me, if he didn't want to, he'd let you know." Sky tries to reassure.
"But he's so- and I'm just-!" You manage to say, stage whispering at Sky insistently.
You can feel your face heating up even as you try to shove the fear away.
Sky laughs gently, hand coming to rest on your shoulder.
"Sky! It's not funny! I really need your help!" You plead, already feeling desperate for help or comfort.
"Okay, Okay. You're right. But really, you should just tell him. That way it's all out there."
"Tell him?! Outright?! Sky he doesn't even seem like he wants romance! I just- I don't want to loose him because I'm selfish... This was a bad idea."
"(Y/n)." Sky says firm but gentle, squeezing your shoulder softly, "Legend really cares about you. He wouldn't be mad because you told him the truth."
"You don't know that."
"I do. He's been watching us the whole time, up until Wars distracted him."
You turns, and Legend is glancing at you when you do. He looks away quickly, and you giggle a little.
"Really? I just thought it was wishful thinking."
"Really."
"So... You're sure I should just tell him?"
"Positive. Fi- A friend of mine who was always wiser would agree. She'd say you have a hundred percent chance of acceptance."
You flush a little more, pleased to know Sky is so confident that Legend will accept your feelings if not return them. (You really hope he returns them.)
"I'll tell him tonight." You say, deciding then and there.
"Good. I'll try to keep the others away."
"Thanks Sky. You're a good friend."
Sky just smiles at you again, pleased to know you're finally going to do something about this- and win him the bet. "Anytime."
.......
After you all eat dinner you manage to get Legend alone. The others all talking amongst each other or gathering supplies in the woods.
"Hey, can I talk to you about something important?" You ask, sitting beside Legend. Your face is already flushing.
"Sure." He says, not really wanting to push or be too mean. But he also isn't ever sure how obvious he is.
"So... I uh-" You take a deep breath, you decide to rip the band-aid off. Better to just blurt it out. "I really like you! Like- as more than friends. And uhm- I talked to Sky and he said I should just tell you. And anyways I'm rambling- but I really like you a lot."
Legend stares at you, waiting for his brain to catch up with your words. As he processes what you just told him he feels his ears flush- and suddenly feels a lot less jealous of your talk with Sky.
He knows it's silly to have been jealous at all- no matter the topic you discussed with the other. But emotions are logical. Bite him.
"You- like me?" He asks, needing to have it confirmed that he didn't just project his feelings onto you.
"Yeah. Uh- I can leave if you want some space? I totally get it if you don't like me back! I know I can be a lot- and that you like space. And-"
"Why?" he asks, baffled.
You laugh, half nervous half giddy that he isn't pushing you away.
"Because you're great. You always help me out when I ask. You don't get on me because I choose to be as cheerful as I can be? You support me endlessly. Why wouldn't I like you?"
"Because I'm an asshole." he says, and usually he's proud of the fact. It keeps fake people away from him- but with you he hates it. Hates how prickly he can be.
"Maybe. But Only outside." You smile softer, "You're a good person, Legend. Even if you are a bit of a cactus sometimes."
He has to clear his throat to by enough time to respond coherently. "Uh- wow. That's not what I expected."
"I can tell. You really don't believe in yourself do you?"
"Why would I?"
"Because you should. You're amazing, Legend. But I'll just believe in you enough for both of us."
Legend nearly stops short when he realizes he's left your confession unanswered. That won't do. A miracle has happened- you like him the way he likes you. You deserve to know that.
He needs to know he genuinely gave this a shot. Has to try to have a happy relationship with you- sappy as it is. because he has to try. he has to know that even if it fails that he did is fucking best.
And- and he wants to. he wants to be selfish and date you.
Wants to keep liking you the way he does- wants to fall in love with you knowing that you'll catch him because you're falling too.
"Just so you know... I feel the same about you."
"You do?"
"Yeah. And- If you want to... We could give dating a try?" He asks, and Legend could shake himself. He sounds so unsure- awkward as he speaks.
You deserve someone who sounds sure!
"I'd like that. I'd like that a lot."
"So I guess I can call you mine?" He asks- and Hylia above he's trying. He really is trying to be sweet.
But that's not what he's used to. It's going to take some real fucking time and effort.
You giggle, smiling brightly as you say, "Only if I get to call you mine too!"
"That- sounds great, babe." He says, trying his damnedest to give you some sort of pet name.
He knows lots of couples do pet names. Even if he isn't a big pet name guy.
The way you light up though is worth it. He'll have to call you babe sometimes then. If it earns him such a bright smile.

hey what’re your thoughts on bnha rn. you’re like one of the only dudes i trust with opinions on this manga/anime lmao
LOL idk why im one of the only guys u trust for manga/anime opinions BUT SURE do you mean like... what do I think of the current plot? or mha in general? (I will answer both. i love to talk) current plot: (SPOILERS) It's clearly the final arc and its clearly taking longer than Horikoshi intended lol. Overall it's decent shounen fare? Nothing mindblowing but it's well drawn and weekly developments r fun so im not complaining. I'm not the type to get rly invested in villains so AFO/shigaraki even Dabi are only interesting to me thematically and as characters I don't rly care but the visuals are cool enough. I love the pure white negative space hair and Horikoshi clearly loves AKIRA LOL. I will say I LOVE the ongoing Boku No Open Heart Surgery saga that's going on with Bakugo though. I love that they have to save him in some ridiculous weird power-based way lol, normal first aid would be booooring!! + I think its smart for the manga to keep him teetering on the edge of death and flashing his lifeless body every 5 pgs (lol) because it means even if the final fight drags a lil I'll keep tuning in.
in general: There's a lot of shounen manga out there but there's only one shounen manga that caters specifically to people who love the school aspect of x-men comics so I think I'm pre-disposed to love mha based on that alone. Beyond that, I love how idiosyncratic and energetic horikoshi's art style is.. I feel like the two things u can tell right off the bat abt his drawings is that he draws rly fast and that he rly loves his characters lol. Evident in the sketches he puts on twitter and the bonus content in all the tankobon volumes (it's also great for ""content""" he's a good content creator), he's always coming up with situations and outfits and concepts on the fly for those kids like they truly live in his brain. Also the more I read the more I realize I actually quite enjoy Horikoshi's writing too? I think he really clearly grew up with and adores paying homage to corny shounen superhero stuff but he's also very genre savvy and (I think) purposefully avoids a lot of common criticisms and pitfalls. Like the power scaling is pretty tame, the adults never truly give up responsibility of the kids & continue to own up to mistakes/endangerment (but never so much as to prevent the kids from doing cool action stuff!! duh), the cast is relatively well balanced despite being so big etc etc... It's not perfect, there's pretty significant failing on gender parity, and some of the pacing is way better in archival format > week-to-week but it's pretty good overall. Also its funny?? I feel like in the midst of 9486135613 action battle series + generic anime comedy we forget to address when something actually has good jokes and i think mha does. The aoyama cheese stuff made me laugh, the kids protesting biased commentary was funny as hell, and honestly i think mirio distracting afo with his ass?? funnier than naruto's final yaoi no jutsu imo. Sorry if you wanted me to dish out criticism I know its kind of popular to hate on mha rn because it's pretty generic low-brow shounen. And also adults who obsess over yaoi-ifying these kids are like the butt of the joke on the internet rn. But I don't rly run in fandom circles, it's just a solid manga to me with fun characters. Actually 90% of the reason I started reading mha again was because I listened to the mangasplaining ep abt it recently and they made me remember how much there was to like! Good to listen to if you want a more fandom-free objective take on the manga. Also Horikoshi credits all of his assistants in a bonus page in every volume! just a cool thing to note! kinda rare for a mangaka and kind of important for a series that requires as much assistant work as a wsj shounen. I feel like the amount of assistants that have gone on to lead mha spin off manga projects is kind of testament to how good his relationship w them is.
Ok thank you for reading my long thoughts. as a reward heres some drawings of deku and bakugo as splatoon characters that ive been sitting on for a while and have yet to finish LOL

The Set Up (6)
All About Rory
Master List
An: I almost feel like this is an ok place to end it unless there are more things you want to see. Let me know in the comments?
Warnings: death by fluff? 😂
You open the door nervously, seeing Rory standing outside your apartment with flowers in his hand. He offers them to you, and you graciously accept them. You smile from ear to ear as he steps inside. "These are pretty! Thank you, and I'm sorry it took so long for us to get together." You say, lowering the flowers from your face.
Rory stands in front of you, beaming like a fool. "I'm just happy to see you." He cups your face in his hands and softly kisses your lips, leaving you slightly stunned.
It's not that you don't like it or don't want to kiss him. He's just more confident than you, and you love that.
You're often too shy around him to make the first move. You always overthink the situation and worry about the consequences. Being friends with his brother doesn't help much, either. What if you mess up, and he tells Kieran? Kieran still teased you from a year and a half ago when you two went to a French restaurant and ordered the wrong thing because you couldn't correctly pronounce what you wanted.
You lace your fingers with his and lead him to the kitchen, "I was going to make dinner and than I realized...I really don't enjoy cooking. I mean I do but I didn't tonight." You pause as you reach into the cupboard for a vase.
"Oh no," He chuckles, "This isn't going to work. I should get going." Rory's tone is high-pitched and playful. You can quickly tell he's joking. "We could probably sit silently all night, starve, and I'd still be over the moon to be here." His blue eyes sparkle as he watches you set the vase full of flowers on the counter.
"Oh good…cause that was my plan." You tease. "I was actually going to order pizza. I figured I'd wait until you got here. I didn't want to order the wrong thing." When you think about the money, you wasted on groceries.
Amused, he leans against the counter. "Get whatever you like. I'm not fussy."
"Perfect, I decided I'll allow you to pick the first movie we watch, but don't get used to it!" You joke. "I'm just being a nice hostess."
Rory chuckles, "I have some good opions when it comes to horror movies. I could teach you a thing or two." He follows you to the living room, and the two of you sit down on the couch.
You turn the tv on and hand him your remote. You watch his brows furrow, and a concentrated look forms on his face as he scans through the movie Apps on your TV.
He pauses at some of the titles, muttering comments under his breath. You wonder what he's looking for and what kind of horror movies he likes. He finally stops on the list you've created specifically for moments like this when you want to watch something that scared you.
"You've got good taste." He tilts his head to look your way noticing that you're intently watching him. It would help if you stopped staring, but you can't.
"We don't have to watch those. Honestly I've seen most of those a million times." You lean back on the couch, tucking your legs underneath you and pushing your back into the corner of the sofa.
While Rory is concentrated on finding the perfect movie, you decide to order food.
"Ok, I know which one we're going to watch." He smiles and leans back, proud of his choice. "I'm not going to play it until we get food, though; no distractions allowed." He chuckles.
You laugh with him feeling comfortable and relieved. You enjoyed his presence; something about him was calming to you.
"What are you thinking about?" He asks, noticing the smile on your face; you've uncrossed your legs and scooted a little bit closer to him. It's a small move, but it shows how much you trust and want to be near him.
"Honestly?" You ask, "I'm just glad I listened to your brother." You giggle, "When we met at Jazz's party and exchanged numbers but didn't ever talk, I thought that would be the end of anything happening between us."
He blushes slightly and says, "I tried to text you, but I never knew what to say. I got in my head and thought maybe Kieran persuaded you to give me your number out of pity." He laughs and covers his face with his hands. "I'm happy that's not true. I still reread my texts a million times before sending them, making sure they sound right." He confesses, leaning back and resting his head on your shoulder.
Without hesitation you bring your hand to his face, gently pushing back his hair. You stroke his cheek and say, "Glad I'm not the only one." You smile and kiss his temple, making him sigh.
The knocking on the door startles Rory, and he jumps slightly. You snicker as you stand up and walk to the door.
You open it and see a young man holding a large pizza box. He smiles and greets you, "Hi, I have your order here. That'll be $13.99, please." You take out your wallet and hand him a $20 bill. "Keep the change," you say, taking the pizza from him.
"Thank you, have a nice day," He says, walking away.
You close the door and turn around, holding the pizza before you.
"You're jumpy." You giggle, walking towards him. "We haven't even watched the movie yet." You tease, setting the pizza on the coffee table.
He shrugs and smiles sheepishly, "I was comfortable and not expecting it." He defends himself, reaching for a slice of pizza.
You roll your eyes and laugh, "Sure."
You join him on the couch, grabbing a piece of your own. You smell the cheese and pepperoni, making your mouth water.
"Movie?" You ask.
He nods, setting his pizza down and grabbing the remote. He looks at you with a playful smile and says, "Alright, I'm telling you now, if you get scared, I'm fully ok with you snuggling up to me. I'll keep you safe."
You smile back and say, "Oh, really? And what if you get scared? Who's going to keep you safe?" You tease, poking his chest.
He laughs and says, "Me? Scared? Never. I'm a brave man. I can handle any horror movie." He says confidently, pressing play.
The movie starts, and you watch it with him, enjoying his company and humor.
Throughout the movie, he makes funny comments and jokes, making you laugh and forget about the scary parts.
You catch him watching you through the intense parts, and he'll grab your hand or rub your arm to let you know he's there.
For you, at this very moment, life couldn't be more perfect. This connection you felt with him was indescribable. You decide to be brave and push past your nervousness. You lift his arm from his side and curl close to his chest. "I'm not scared." You tell him. "Your just comfortable."
Rory chuckles, wrapping his arm around you, running his fingers up and down your arm, and kissing the top of your head. "Can I tell you something?"
You nod, curious pulling your head from his chest.
"I really like you. A lot. And I want to see you again. And again. And again." He makes your heart skip a beat.
You can't get the grin off your face, "That's good cause, I really like you too." You lean in and kiss him gently, feeling his lips move with yours. He deepens the kiss and hugs you tighter, making you feel loved and happy. You pull away for a second, looking him in the eyes.
A smile still plays on your lips as your eyes scan his face.
He looks at you with curiosity and affection. "What?" He asks, slightly out of breath.
You shake your head and say, "Nothing. I just like looking at you." You kiss him again, softly and sweetly.
Rory smiles and kisses you back, holding you close. He whispers in your ear, “You amaze me.”
You blush and snuggle back up to his chest, feeling a warm glow in your body. Was it possible Kieran was right and Rory was the one?

I was thinking about my characters recently and I got worried for a bit that one of my stoic characters wouldn't get mad at anything! Then I realized, "Nah, there are SOME select situations.." It was really fun!
SO! Pick a character of your choice (probably a more put-together character but it doesn't have to be!) and think about their Anger TM.
What would make them mad but would also be really funny and amusing to them?
What would send them into a wild rage? A tirade? Violence, if they're so inclined?
What would make them the kind of cold anger that would lead to months of plotting revenge?
What would make them "not mad, just disappointed"?
No pressure but I thought it'd be cool to pass the prompt around!
OH I LOVE THIS Thank you!!!
Because I've been hyperfixating on my new WIP as of late, I'm gonna do this for the main/more important characters in Feather Candles, which I'm going to put most of under a cut because I already know this is going to get very long haha
(Also I apologize for my awful formatting but this was just how my brain wanted these listed out)
Tumblr media
Mad, but it's also funny:
Lark - This is an emotion specifically for when his sisters complain about his "bad habits," if they can be called that. "Can you please stop rolling up your sleeves? It's so obvious you're showing off." "I was actually just making sure I don't drag them through the food on the table but whatever." - Also whenever people ask why he's not courting anyone yet, he's just kind of like, "Hey I'm grieving the death of the person that was basically married to me. Can you leave me alone????" ~
Milo - If she accidentally trips on something/runs into something and someone says, "By the way, there's a chair right there," (or whatever it is), she will get mad, but she also has to laugh because it is kind of funny, despite it being at her own expense. There's more anger than amusement, but she'll still laugh a bit. ~
Peregrine - "You're way too young for/to be doing [X]!" Oh boy. This man is about to burst out laughing at your ignorance. The "anger" burning under his amusement is at the fact that someone is saying that without knowing just what he's been through. Sure, he's young—but he's had way too much life experience already. - This is also the emotion for when people tell him he's gonna die young because his magician's mark appeared when he was only six years old. He laughs with some bitterness because "Do you even know anything about how magic works?" But he's also a little peeved because he hates being reminded that yeah, this might actually be true. ~
El - This is his reaction to people making jokes about his lost memories. He knows it's a joke and can't help but laugh. He also is really stressed out that he can't remember who he was in service to or why he wields a sword. - This is also his reaction for people that poke fun at his body shape/build. He's just a tiny bit mad that someone would make a comment about his height/weight, but he laughs because he's well-aware that he could snap them in half like a twig.
Wild rage (and maybe violence):
Lark: - If someone dares to insult Brant's memory, that person is about to regret opening their mouth. (The duke of Halisin is probably not coming back to the dining hall any time soon, that's for sure.) - Likewise, if someone even hints at insulting either of his sisters, you can bet this man is about to break some bones. ~
Milo - She almost never reaches this point because if she ever reaches this level of emotion, she's more likely to get upset and start crying (and this is still extremely unlikely) than to feel true rage, but if you do something that betrays her trust, she'll start heading in the direction of screaming, "How could you do something like that?!" at you. ~
Peregrine - If someone hurts a person he cares about, you better believe he's slamming his tome as hard as he can against that someone's face. This is basically the only thing that will get him to snap because "Violence begets violence" or whatever, but he's actually got pretty good restraint when it comes to violence. Like, this man could easily just magically explode someone with lightning, but he'll choose to hit you with his tome. - His anger for not realizing something "obvious" (hindsight is 20/20 vibes) also falls into this category. Even if he's the first to make the realization, he'll still fly off the handle at the fact that he didn't figure it out sooner. Not in a physically violent way, but this is basically the only other time you'll hear him yelling and see actual rage in his eyes. ~
El - Do not hurt this man's friends. He will challenge you to a fight that you will not emerge from unscathed. - Do not insult this man's values. He will challenge you to a duel that you will not win.
Cold anger (with potential revenge):
Lark - This is how he feels in regard to that assassin that killed Brant. Dark, cold anger that will not leave him until he's avenged his friend—at whatever cost. ~
Milo - Someone insulting her abilities on the basis of something completely unrelated (like her sight). She won't necessarily plot revenge, but she might not speak to you again until you thoroughly apologize. ~
Peregrine - Nothing you do to him personally will get this man to feel this way. But if you do something to someone he cares about, you can bet that he's got a list in his mind of your personal weakness that he can exploit when it will hurt most. (But whether or not he's actually able to carry out revenge is a different story. His heart is too gentle for that sort of thing.) ~
El - Cold/lingering anger just isn't really his style. He'd rather get things off his chest so it's not bothering him—and maybe just have a fight to settle whatever it is that he's mad about.
Not mad, just disappointed:
Lark - Oh my sweet summer child. This poor broken boy. (I mean he's like twenty-eight years old but REGARDLESS) This is the "anger" he carries for himself, and himself alone. Everything that happened is all his fault, and he should have prevented all the bad things. (He fully believes that he's the reason that Brant died and that he could have saved him somehow.) - Also (we're not gonna get deep into this but) he's got this mentality that he's a disappointment to the queendom for being born a son to a queen. He does all the boring/useless tasks that his sisters don't have time for, and he's basically given free rein at all times to just leave the castle and wander around. (Seriously, how else is he supposed to feel after realizing that there was an assassin after him but they didn't increase reinforcements??) Like, he's not mad he was born in his situation, and maybe not even quite disappointed, but it's basically that. ~
Milo - Really stupid mistakes (especially where people got hurt) that could have been easily avoided. She's a tactician. Most of this disappointment is directed at herself. ~
Peregrine - Kind of odd(?), but this is kind of his attitude about threats and/or violence. Like, if there's a situation where someone is engaging in unwarranted violence (towards himself or someone else), he'll just sadly shake his head at them. "Are you trying to provoke me into fighting back? I could kill you with a simple wave of my hand, but you know I won't, so you're taking advantage of that. It's a bit pathetic, don't you think?" (No, this isn't in the "I'm trying to get under your skin" voice, this is the "I truly believe you are a good person and are capable of being better" voice.) ~
El - This is how he feels about Peregrine's unwillingness to "stand up for himself" (because what else are you supposed to call it when a man barely reacts to slurs being yelled at him???), as well as verbal violence in general. He finds it disappointing when people talk big and only talk big. If they can't even fistfight for what they're getting so worked up about, then why are they getting worked up about it? (Don't worry about El, he's fine.)

OKAY YEAH THAT WAS A LOT But that was fun! Thank you for this prompt, I enjoyed it a lot!

Coal Dust
Warnings: 18+
Synopsis: Santa is married, the day is saved, and Christmas is underway. But then something else happens, as if Bernard hasn't been under enough stress.
Pairings: Snowfall Sweethearts ☕❄
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The whole workshop is a mess.
Lines of black streak the floor as elves try to sweep up the residue left by the Toy Santa's big idea. Charcoal mixes with snowy boots to make a slippery, murky, sludge on the tile.
Bernard leads Mrs. Claus inside, the snowy courtyard a mess of gray snow behind them.
He grabs Charity's attention when people try to pull him away.
"Can you show Mrs. Claus around?"
"Me? Are you sure? Shouldn't Curtis-"
"You've spent more time in the mortal realm than any of us," he explains, "I figure you'll be best to answer any of her questions. I trust you."
Her heart flutters, "O-okay."
"Thanks, Shiver," He turns to Carol, pulling Charity next to him, "This is Charity, she's going to show you around. Anything you need until you get your bearings, ask Charity."
"Hi," she smiles shyly at the mortal.
He scurries off to help in the Comm room, the last thing he needs is something happening to Santa.
She can appreciate Carol wanting a detailed tour, when she first got back to the pole she'd gotten lost a few times herself.
"This is the Comm. Room," she explains, "This is where we can stay in touch with Santa while he's out on delivery."
"How's everything going?" Bernard asks, it's been over an hour and nothing's gone wrong so he's started to relax. He's also started to realize just how worried he'd been, not just about Christmas, but the red haired elf in front of him specifically.
While he was restrained away from the others he'd heard breaking glass and angry yelling. As it turns out, Charity, never one to sit by quietly, had thrown a stool through one of the workshop windows when Toy Santa locked the elves in.
His eyes settle on her face, black powder smudged on her cheeks, one of which has a line across it, darker than the rest. His eyebrows furrow and he goes to say something when he's interrupted.
"Everything is... wow," Carol grins, "This place is amazing!"
He smiles at her with a nod, "I'm glad you like it. Where are you off to next?"
"Bedroom and living quarters," Charity says, "I'll see you later."
She turns to leave but stops when she feels his hand on her wrist.
"Can I borrow her for a minute?" He asks Carol, not waiting for a reply when he pulls her aside.
"What's wrong?" She asks at his suddenly worried expression.
She watches with wide eyes when he brings his hand up to brush her hair away from her face.
"What's this?" She flinches at the sting from his thumb grazing the line on her left cheek. His eyes narrow, "Are you hurt?"
"It's nothing," she insists, pulling his hand from her face, "I'm fine."
"No," He shakes his head and moves both his hands to cup her face now, "I want you to go see Dr. Histmas, I'll take care of Mrs. Claus."
"I'm okay, Twitch, seriously. It's nothing a warm washcloth and some Neosporin can't fix."
"You're sure?" His eyes search hers for any doubt and she smiles at him.
"Positive."
He pushes down the sudden urge to lean forwards and capture her lips with his and reluctantly lets his hands fall from her face.
She can feel his stare as she goes to join Carol in the hallway.
"How long have you two been together?" She asks and Charity's eyes go wide.
"W-we-we aren't!" Her face and ears go red. She hurries ahead, leading Mrs. Claus toward their next stop.
Another fifteen minutes of thinking about those adorable chewed and chapped lips and Bernard drops what he's doing to go find her, he's been pushing this down for far too long.
He loses his nerve outside Santa's living quarters and starts pacing. He should just go back to work.
He jumps when he turns around to an opening door, coming face to face with a surprised Charity.
"Did something happen?" She asks, "Is Santa okay?"
"He's fine."
"That's good."
It's quiet for a moment.
"So-"
"I wanted to-" They both freeze, and he clears stammers, "S-sorry... What were you going to..."
"Nothing... please, go ahead."
Why are his palms sweaty? He takes a deep breath.
"I wanted to... Know if you wanted someone to walk you home?" He gives her a crooked smile. Chicken, "It's late and you look exhausted."
"Oh..." Oh? What does that mean? "Sure Twitch, I'd love if you'd walk me home."
The walk to her cottage is quiet, but a comfortable kind of quiet. The kind of quiet that's warm and breathable.
He smiles when she slips her right hand in his left, testing the waters before leaning into him and wrapping her other arm around his.
"Thank you," She says, resting her cheek on his shoulder.
"For what?"
"The company."
He can feel the points of his ears turning pink and his smile widens.
The inside of her cottage is cozy and much more homey than his apartment, not that he spends much time there anyways, too busy running around all the time. He finds himself immediately relaxing as soon as he steps inside.
"I'm gonna go take care of this," She motions to her cheek, moving away, "I'll be right back."
""Let me," He follows her into the bathroom.
"Are you sure? I-I can do it."
He just smiles and maneuvers her to sit on the side of the tub.
She can't help but stare while he patches her up, cheeks turning a bright shade of red when he kneels in front of her and tucks her hair behind her ear.
He pouts, eyebrows creased together as he carefully cleans the coal dust from the wound, whispering a soft apology at every flinch, "I'm sorry... I'm almost done... just a little more..."
"There," he says, thumb smoothing over the freshly placed bandage, "Good as new."
His eyes go wide when she leans close, pressing a quick kiss to his lips.
He's in complete shock.
"Merry Christmas, Bernard."
She kisses him again, harder than the last, but only just so. More confident than before.
It takes him a moment before he completely melts into her, eyes fluttering shut. His hands find purchase on her hips and he smiles against her lips.
"I've wanted to do that for over 600 years," he breathes, forehead pressed to hers.
"Then why didn't you?"
"I- w-w-what do you mean? I mean-" He looks up at her, "You... Santa assigned you out of the pole, I didn't know the next time I'd see you, I was scared! It-... It wasn't the right time."
"And now?"
He starts to smile again, that crooked, goofy smile she loves, "I would love to see where this goes. If you'll have me, that is."
She doesn't say anything, just cups his cheeks and pulls him into another kiss.
"I'll take that as a yes?" He laughs lightly.
"Stay," She says, "Here, tonight. I- I want to spend Christmas with you."
His face falls. There is nowhere he would rather spend the day, than curled beside her, but, "I have to go back to the workshop. I have to be there when Santa gets..."
He trails off, one of his curls wrapped around her finger, sad smile etched on her face.
"I can come back!"
She shakes her head and stands, "It's fine, Bernard."
"No, I can! I can come right back over once Santa gets back and we debrief and I-I-I," he hurries after her, holding on to her hand, "Charity, please."
"It's okay," Her smile isn't full, he wants it to be, "I understand, you're super busy as head elf, Santa relies on you. I get it, Twitch, I do."
She's taken aback when his hands firmly hold her face, looking at her like a kicked puppy, "Please don't be sad. I don't want to start this with sad. I am very busy but I will come back as soon as I can... I promise."
He feels her arms snake around his middle and she pulls her face from his hold, nestling it against his neck.
"W-wow, okay," The sudden increase in affection brought on by this whole situation has his head spinning. He can feel her breath on his skin as she relaxes in his arms, "Is it okay if I come back?"
She nods, falling further into him.
"I... I have to go, Shiver," He says, still not pulling away, "Will you be awake when I get back?"
"I dunno... I can try?"
"No," He leans back and runs his fingers through her hair, smiling tenderly, "No, get some sleep, I'll be here when you wake up."
❄❄❄❄❄
"Is something going on?"
Santa has never seen Bernard rush through a post-delivery debrief like this before.
"Nope."
"Bernard?" The pointed look makes the elf shrink slightly.
"I-I'm just tired, it's been a long month," It's not a lie, the whole toy Santa debacle has him exhausted.
"Uh-huh," Santa's eyes narrow, "Have you seen Charity?"
"W-what?" His voice cracks, "No! Why?"
"Someone said she cut herself when she was trying to bust out of the workshop. I didn't know if you knew how bad it was."
"Just a knick on her cheek, she's okay."
"So you have seen her."
"I-Wha-w-well yeah! Earlier! But when you asked I thought you meant recently, not like earlier than n-now..." he rambles, chuckling nervously.
"O... kay?" Santa shakes his head, "Well, I think that's it for the debrief. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go kiss my wife."
"Yeah! Y-you do that, sir!"
His cheeks puff up as he lets out a breath of relief.
By the time he gets back, the cabin is dark. He tries to be as quiet as possible, until his foot catches the side of a table, sending him and a few knickknacks toppling to the ground.
Charity bolts upwards when she hears an exclamation from the front room.
"Silent night!"
She relaxes hearing Bernard's voice. She swings her legs over the side of the bed, keeping the large fluffy blanket wrapped around her as she shuffles into the living room.
She's still half asleep as she clicks the light on, catching him picking up his mess. His face softens when he sees her, and he stands up.
"What are you doing up?" He asks.
She doesn't say anything, just steps close and leans into him, cheek squishing against his shoulder.
"I didn't mean to wake you," He rubs her back, "C'mon, go back to bed, I'll take the couch."
She takes a deep breath and steps away but doesn't let him go for the couch, instead pulling him with her.
He sits on the edge of her large bed as he kicks off his boots before looking over at her, "Are you sure you don't want me to take the couch?"
The next time she wakes up, she's snuggled into his chest, his arms wrapped tightly around her. He's out cold, Christmas and the days that follow traditionally being the time he sleeps the hardest. The stress and excitement from the holiday finally off his shoulders.
She reaches up, twisting his curls around her fingers and taking in his flushed cheeks, still smudged with coal dust.
"Merry Christmas, Twitch."
He pushes his face into her hair, muttering in his sleep, "Merry Christmas."

what do you dislike about Kayne/the butcher in terms of writing?
Everything 😌
No but really I'll share my thoughts under the cut.
I could probably write an essay about how the introduction of Kayne has already irreparably damaged the show's narrative, but the short version is that by existing, he has erased virtually all stakes, imo. He appeared basically out of nowhere, deflated all tension leading up to the final confrontation with the King in Yellow (who was the main antagonist at the time), and following that confrontation removed all the consequences of it. By undoing Arthur's broken bones and returning John, everything about Arthur's and John's choices on the plateu were invalidated, as well as the choice we the Patrons had made, despite it being billed as a very significant vote. He replaced them with entirely new and completely arbitrary consequences (the memory loss, whatever John's deal is).
His motives may or may not become clear later on, but in the meantime, we're left with a villain who seems to be reshaping the story just for his own amusement, with no regard for the characters' agency or consequences. If Kayne can bring Arthur back from literal death whenever he wants, why should I ever be worried for his safety? Why should I care if John is losing his memory again, when Kayne has full control over his mind and existence? There's no point even wondering what he's after or what the conditions of his deal are until he reveals them himself, and even then, it might just get undone again.
It's contrived, imo. It's lazy. It's a get out of jail free card when you snap a character's femur and then realize you don't want spend time on healing, or come up with some other explanation to get rid of the injury so the plot can barrel forward. He's too powerful, and until he tips his hand, we can't trust that anything else will stick or matter.
Butcher is different, but the problem I have with him is the writing trying too hard to convince us that he's smart/good at this. Him clocking Arthur as blind after a few minutes, after personally watching him READ THE NOTE he himself gave him, and despite none of the other people who spent longer with Arthur noticing, is a desperate bid for us to think he's smart. Him climbing on top of the moving train, where he can't see or hear his quarry, and dropping in exactly when Arthur is next to the specific window, is very dramatic but nonsensical. He chats on and on with the officers, basically shouting at the audience how scary and important he is for far too long.
And he just happened to chase Arthur into an apartment building with a chair and rope set up in the basement. Again it's all a little too convenient. There's a lot about the current scenario that doesn't make much sense logistically, but it doesn't matter because we're just supposed to take the Butcher at his word that he's very good at this.
And hey, I'm not looking for realism. That's not my issue. I just don't like a story telling me that the villain is the best in his field, and then showing him rely on happenstance and luck while he prattles on and on, and sometimes magically intuits something unearned.
(I'm also not a fan of his "oo I'm in love with my victims" shtick, but someone else explained that better already)
Disclaimer these are all my personal feelings and I'm not trying to convince anyone or say you shouldn't like these characters, I fully admit I also have strong personal reasons for disliking them unrelated to the writing so I can't be 100% objective. But who even can be, amirite?

I'm one of the few who dislike Buck's current story line, but Connor and his wife make it so much worse to enjoy. It's probably intended, but they're so manipulative and ungrateful in their two episodes of appearance. Them coming to his workplace definitely feels like them cornering Buck so that he'd go with it already, especially with their raised voice as if they want people to know, and then had the gall to say "I'm sorry if it makes it awkward for you" as if coming there didn't do that. Feels more and more like they want to specifically have a good-looking white kid, no?
And they're dragging it until 6B? I' sorry for those who enjoy it, but I HATE that decision.
Them showing up to his job and ambushing him was completely uncalled for. The reason the 118 now knows is a direct result of that.
Now. Here is where my issue (and not really an issue more so just a tiny grievance) comes in with this sperm donor situation and I will try and articulate this the best way I can. I was on board with the storyline and still am! It was so outta left field but I could see how a story like this could work for Buck!
However, so far in the two episodes we’ve gotten this story it has been through a comedic lens and that annoys me. I mean yea its funny, Buck cant jerk off haha. He intentionally hadn’t told anyone but Hen and then Conner and his wife accost him at work so now everyone knows. And while that scene in the truck was HILARIOUS, I was hoping that when his family found this out that SOMEONE would’ve been like “ummm Buck…maybe lets talk about this” and I know we kinda got that with Hen but even then they were drunk! And they do that quite a bit for Buck’s situations. Its used for comedic relief and that kinda frustrates me? I know he’s the golden retriever and he’s a bit of a himbo but it would seem like this is a serious situation that should be taken as such? Buck and his feelings and situations are quite often dismissed or used for laughs and that’s disappointing because that boy has been on the verge of a breakdown for so long now and I am still hoping that we are going that route.
And to be clear, my desire for a more serious Buck storyline does not mean I don’t love what we’ve gotten for the other characters. Yall know I’m an Eddie stan account! And I LOVE that we’ve gotten Bathena/Madney/Henren storylines! This disappointment doesn’t stem from lack of Buck on my screen, simply the lack of depth in which his story has if that makes sense?
Now with all of this said, I realize that it’s only been 2 episodes and that stories progress over time, trust me I know. Which is why I said earlier that its a small grievance with the story so far. Now that we know the Buckley parents are making a return in 6B, my wish is that this leads to some serious moments for Buck. I want him to have some self realizations about himself and what he wants. I hope his parents coming to town means we get to explore that relationship further cause we all know how much them and his upbringing effected/continues to effect him.
