FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR. there aren't really seasons where i'm from, so more generally my favorite time of year is the start of it! something nice about seeing the year turn over i think

SOME INTERESTS AND THINGS YOU LIKE. my life is a constant cycle of consume new media > fixate on said media > repeat so my current interests really depend on what i've gotten into recently haha (rain code right now i fear) otherwise some things i always like to talk about regardless are atla, orv, ace attorney, and specifically venti from genshin & ryuki from somnium files. i'm sure there are other things that i can't remember rn tho haha. in general, i also like math, reading & writing (i mean. you know LOL), photography, and music (i play the piano)! i also just like to learn in general

IF YOU DON'T HAVE THEM ANYMORE, COULD YOU SEE YOURSELF PICKING THEM UP AGAIN? my first muse was the lovely marianne von edmund :] she is very dear to my heart which unfortunately means i was very hard on myself when it came to writing her so probably not, but i think of her time in toa fondly

HAVE YOU HAD ANY OTHER TOA MUSES? caeda very briefly from when i first picked up the archanea games, and est whose app i wrote on the spot in the middle of the night after rereading her base conversations & supports

DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE A TYPE OF CHARACTER YOU GRAVITATE TOWARDS? i'm sure i probably do, but i wouldn't be able to put my finger on it myself. i think the process that happens for me when it comes to muses is that i find characters with certain aspects that i find interesting and would like to explore, then i learn to write them. and very rarely a character will just hit me over the head with a steel chair (yuri and est namely for muses i have/had in toa haha)

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE YOU ENJOY WRITING THE MOST? i love exploring a variety of relationship dynamics, though antagonistic relationships and found family in particular are my favorites (paw against the glass for the ashen wolves..) and i like writing the disparity between what a character thinks internally versus what they would actually express externally. more generally, i really enjoy writing combat!

FAVORITE TOA-RELATED MEMORY. i think any silly rng moments with the dice. two that come to mind immediately are est & sirius whiffing their attacks against one another in arena and, far more recently, waking up to yuri immediately getting bodied in team zofia. those made me laugh a lot haha

Reading, writing, playing on the switch, toy photography (though I am not very good yet 😅) playing on the switch and watching anime. Also I like planning my day in my paper planner and I enjoy making my daily spread look pretty.

Something i don't enjoy is sorting my mail. I don't know why it's sorting mail in particular.

My favourite types of books are probably fantasy, historical, any book inspired by a fairytale. I do like books with a love story and enjoy reading them as long as the plot and chatacters are well written.

My own writing is probably influenced a lot by my love of fairytales and having watched way too much disney (and still do something I will try keep on the low at the start of the relationship)

Games wise I guess I really like cozy games with cute graphics so I adore animal crossing, story of seasons, and harvest moon. I do also really enjoy puzzles and puzzle games such as Professor Layton, or Phoenix Write. I also do enjoy Pokemon and Fire Emblem. Especially Fire Emblem for their great stories.

I guess my friends if asked to describe me would say I am the sweetest kindest person.... even if I disagree there and think it's nothing special. I am on the more reserved introvert side in person but can find it easier to open to people online. I have a tendency to day dream too much too and have quite a creative mind so it's easy for me to fall into my day dream.

As mentioned above my favourite genres are fantasy, and historical, or even better historical fantasy based on a fairytale. Daughter of the Forest will always be one of my favourite books. Right now after having devoured the Bridgerton books I am reading the prequels. it's not my usual genre but I just find the sibling dynamics and chatacters so lovely I can't help but care for each of the characters wanting to see them do well.

One thing I feel insecure about is probably my short height and my freckles. I always worry I am a bother to people and that I am causing them trouble and that I am just not worth it as I am in the nothing special.

"Seems like you're having a good time." he responded, sighing and moving away from you. "Are you getting jealous over fictional characters?" you asked, closing your book and squinting at him. "No." "You are aren't you." you poked at his side, making him turn away from you. "Wanna know who my favorite character is?" you asked, hugging him from behind as he turned away from you, nuzzling into his pillow. "No. Goodnight." "Master Mikage is ready for bed." you mocked in an accent. "Certainly he is." he responded playfully. "Who is your favorite character?" "Darcy Mikage." "You plan on carrying that plan out don't you." he responded. "If you want me to stop dreaming of victorian men might as well... you and i are gonna go for a hair makeover and shopping for victorian clothes so that i can take pictures of you in it. What's say?" you said as you heard him sigh. "Deal. But you... have to wear one of those victorian dresses." "Deal." yeah reo was oc in this one but that's how he can be. this is an extremely bizarre question i just thought of but. thoughts on the s/n cast being in a lighthearted (??) au a la hs/college/coffee shop au but still forced to meet (group project members, reluctant coworkers, etc.). i have no idea if this makes sense fksjks

lighthearted au of choice is 'everyone works in the same shitty mall' because its the one i can make make sense in my head the best. dont ask why jdhslkag

sam is the long suffering assistant manager for a best buy. eric is the actual manager and the rest of the spire network folks are the other employees here. darcy has stolen at least 2 entire xboxes. indrani, grace, and sam walk to the food court together every day to have lunch together and shittalk everyone else.

sam has a ham radio hobby and uses her store discount to buy parts (i havent been to a best buy in forever idk if they have those. bear with me here). she is a radio nerd in every universe and i love her <3

mel works in the new escape room (cy also works here) and is weirdly serious about it?? emily works in a trader joes. jackie is in the weird little board game store you know the kind.

jackie steals pokemon cards from behind the counter for mel. mvp

i could literally just have said they know each other from working in the same store but instead im about to build the weirdest relationship map ever because #ilovecomplexity. ok here we go

mel, em, and sam have lived in this town and known each other since they were kids. mel and sam were closer in high school, but then mel left town to go to college for a few years (before dropping out), and sam and em started hanging out a lot more. jackie just recently moved to town to go to the state school nearby (fun fact: in a previous version of this story it took place in suburban illinois, and emily went to university of illinois urbana-champaign so lets say its there for funsies). emily is also taking classes there so she and jackie ended up in a class together (em is a math major and jackie is the worlds most pathetic physics major so they probably took like calc 3 together or something) and thats how jackie got dragged into the group!!!

sam has the worst little awful apartment youve ever seen (its literally the r/malelivingspaces i dont deserve a bedframe post) and jackie is somehow always hanging out there (jackie lives with 3 roommates and is always in a fight with one of them). sam frankly does not mind. the two of them get a long a LOT better without an impending apocalypse. physics student jackie + radio enthusiast sam spend a lot of time discussing like, the electromagnetic spectrum and also jackie is making sam watch breaking bad and sometimes they play minecraft.

emily: im gonna ask sam to have dinner at the california pizza kitchen with me

mel: what the fuck. thats a terrible idea. why would you take her to the fucking california pizza kitchen in the mall we literally work at. what??

emily: ...... should i do the cheesecake factory??

jackie is the ultimate 'lie to your boss. leave work for no reason. just walk out. fuck it ✌️' guy and is constantly trying to get the other three to spend work hours just sort of fucking around and hanging out with them. like theyll tell their manager theyre taking a bathroom break and then walk down to the escape room and talk to mel for 30 minutes. mel, who takes her work in this universe as seriously as in canon, absolutely HATES this and is like no im not skipping work with you. stop it. but caves eventually and spends a lot of time just sort of wandering through the weird field behind the mall with jackie and getting high. its great

chaos and absolute tragedy when the sbarros in the food court is replaced by a fancy health food place and its the only topic of discusion for months. no survivors

emily and mel are on a much better path towards actually mending their relationships in this world. i think they both still live at home, and having their other siblings leo and addie around (as well as their mom and grandma) makes them WAYYYY less likely to want to tear out each others throats. sam loves going to dinner at em and mels because it reminds her a lot of her own family (and because shes known them so long shes been going over there forever. helped addie with her math homework when addie was in hs kinda vibe. its nice)

also while sam is still estranged from her family in this version, the paternal relationship between her and eric is also much more clear, which is also nice. sam PEOPLE LOVE YOU.

My Favorite Reads of 2020

I read quite a bit in 2020, so I wanted to share some of my favorite books and fics.

I work in the teen department of my library, so I read a lot of YA. I think that fic and YA are looked down on for similar reasons: both are supposedly the domain of teenage girls, childish and of dubious quality. I’ve definitely read YA novels that were no better than fic, and I’ve also definitely read fic that was better than most YA novels I’ve encountered. Fic can be more thought-provoking than one might assume, and YA can be way more salacious than one might assume. YA has gotten way cooler and way higher quality than what was available when I was a teen ... and so has fic!

That said, not all of my favorite reads of 2020 were YA, but a lot of them were. Go read some of these--it’s good for your brain.

Mainstream Fiction

Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger

Genres: Young Adult, fantasy, mystery

Keywords: ghosts, LGBT (ace), Native American (Apache), crime solving

Two words: ghost dog!! In a version of the US that’s a lot like ours but more magical, Ellie (short for Elatsoe) is a Lipan-Apache girl who can raise the ghosts of animals from the dead. When her cousin is murdered, she has to go toe-to-toe with the elites of Willowbee, TX to get justice for her family.

The Little Drummer Girl by John LeCarre

Genres: political fiction, romance

Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribray

Dread Nation by Justine Ireland

Genres: Young Adult, Horror, historical fiction

In this book, the Civil War was ended not because the north won but because the dead rose from the battlegrounds. Now, the dangerous work of fighting the undead falls to black and brown folks while the white folks hide behind the safety of the walls. Balancing humor against cutting commentary on race in US, this story kicks so much ass.

The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo

Genres: Fantasy, novella

Keywords: LBGT (non-binary), ancient China (kind of)

A cleric records the history of an empire newly fallen and remade, cutting back and forth in time between the present and the recollections of Rabbit, former handmaiden to the empress.

This fic takes to heart the idea that pokemon don’t tell lies and then gives the pokemon a platform to speak, making a case for “N was right.” It asks pointed questions about sacrifice, consent, personhood, and what it means to be a hero. The Suicune’s Choice by An Author’s Pen

Poppy the leafeon doesn’t want much: to spend time with her friend Lavender and to take care of the natural world. But the Guild’s attitude towards conservation (it’s not interested) forces her to take a much more aggressive approach to protect what she loves.

Farla’s speciality is using canon details to shed light on the fridge horror canon implies but sweeps under the rug. Bonnibel is a good trainer and she’s having a great time. And lots of snacks. A misery tour of Alola with delicious darkness.

PostwickShip Fic Ideas

So I beat the main game of Pokémon Sword this past weekend, and I have been COMPLETELY obsessed with this adorable ship — to the point where I have been writing down all these ideas for a fic for it, and I just really needed to put the words to paper (or google doc, I guess) and share them! @kuumamochi - here ya go!

So quick note, I changed their ages so she, Hop, Bede, and Marnie are all around 16 instead of 10-12, and I actually made an OC for this to use instead of the base Gloria/Yuuri, so first some little details about her!

OC: Elizabeth

Called: Lizzie

Age: 16 (birthday - Spring)

Hair: long, caramel blonde; usually tied back into to twin braids with side-swept bangs

Eyes: large, round, icy blue eyes (get darker closer to the center)

Height: 4′11″

Weight: 115 lbs

Starter: Sobble (nicknamed “Darcy”, like from Pride and Prejudice)

Likes: strawberries, hydrangeas, warm blankets, and a good book

Dislikes: meat (she’s vegetarian), scary stories, snow, and sports

Favorite Pokemon Types: Fairy and Grass

Typical Outfit/Style: knit beret, striped shirt, short skirt, hoodie, thigh-high socks, and ankle boots

Personality: shy, a bit oversensitive as a child, easily upset by harsh words or by bullies, slowly grows out of it and comes out of her shell as she grows up with Hop; always felt like a “damsel in distress” when Hop would stand up to bullies for her, and wants to be the one to stand up for him for once; always thinks before opening her mouth, sometimes for too long and misses her chance to speak in a conversation

History with Hop:

Grew up with Hop for as long as either can remember

It was always the two of them against the world

Hop protected her from bullies

Lizzie patched him up when things got “too real”

Always figured they’d be together forever, no matter what

Leon gave Hop his first Pokemon (Wooloo) right before he left on his Pokemon journey

Lizzie was a little jealous and wanted one too

Leon said he could catch her one, but then Hop one-upped him and said he’d find her a shiny Wooloo instead

Lizzie agreed to let Hop find one, and hasn’t tried to catch one until he finds her a shiny Wooloo

It’s been six years since this, and he’s still looking

Lizzie realized she had a crush on Hop when he came over to cheer her up after being stood up for a date at age 13

They watched Pokemon league matches while eating ice cream until they finally passed out on the floor at about 3am

Hop turned 16 first, and should have been the first to go on his Pokemon journey, but insisted on staying another six months until Lizzie’s birthday so that they could go on their journey together

Hop realizes he might have a crush on her right before they start their journey, when they both reach for the Wishing Stones

He sees her eyes light up in the stones’ glow, and gets the “oh no, emotions” feeling in his gut

Their Journey Begins:

Lizzie gets her Sobble because it reminds her of her childhood self

She wants to be for Sobble what Hop was for her

She names him Darcy, after the character in her favorite book

Hop is only a little jealous she named her first Pokemon after the love interest to the character that shares her name (No, Liz, I didn’t read it, you just talk about it all the time and I can’t escape it!)

In the Slumbering Weald, they get separated in the fog, and have to try and find each other as well as the lost Wooloo

They don’t see the sword or shield Pokemon until they find each other again, holding hands to not get lost again

They’re still holding hands when they wake up after passing out in the fog

Lizzie’s second Pokemon and Hop’s third Pokemon are a pair of Rookidee, who they help out and that choose to stay with them

The two bird Pokemon bicker like an old married couple half the time they’re together, but cuddle and coo at each other and hate to be apart for too long

Hop, oblivious: “Look, they’re just like us! Best friends who can’t be kept apart!”

Lizzie: *facepalm*

They travel together all the way to Motosoke, camping together in the Wild Area

Lizzie teaches Hop how to cook, so as not to starve or poison any of his Pokemon or himself

His Pokemon are forever grateful

After opening ceremonies, they take on different gyms

Lizzie starts with Milo’s, while Hop takes on Nessa’s first, then they switch and meet back up in Motosoke for Kabu’s badge challenge

This starts as the longest either of them have ever been apart, and they’re both nervous while putting on a brave front

Just about every battle they’ve ever had has either ended in a draw, or been cut off by something

They don’t find out who is the “stronger trainer” of the two until the Semi-Finals

It’s been a while since I took the test >o< Last book you read? oh geez... my depression has kinda made it hard to read books because I get this like, long gap of disinterest/inability to focus and it’s sooo hard to pick it back up afterwards. I have this problem with podcasts too (I just wanna listen to Adventure Zone T_T). Last book I read was called The Red Queen and I remember liking it! I’d like to get back into reading again.

Scary movie or happy ending? I mean I like scary stuff, but these two aren’t mutually exclusive... scary stuff can have happy endings. I always want a happy ending and if I don’t get one I will riot!

Do you have any pets? Four dogs and a cat! Nikki, Hiro, Chunkers, and Lilac are my dogs and Phineas is my cat. Let’s watch in Italian!

Let’s watch some Winx Club in Italian! I know no Italian but I can comment on the visuals and guess at what they’re saying. And I’m super impatient for more Winx and not in the mood to type my fanfic or sew more right now.

There will be real episode summaries/reactions when the English episodes come out.

Hit raiplay to watch along—at the moment season 8 has episodes 16-21 though that may change at any time.

19 La Torre Oltre le Nuvole

Italian theme song! My favorite theme is the first but season 4 and 6 are other favorites. Season 8s is fun too, not as forgettable as some.

Flying! Cowboy flying! Even Stella seems to be having fun by now. I like Bloom’s hat, it has mismatched wings on it.

The girls fly down towards some islands… and there’s Diaspro running up to Bloom! Neither is thrilled to see the other. I wish I knew what they said, I think Disa is giving a sob story-- I would expect it to be a sob story about herself but… no! Points to Diaspro, she’s told them that Sky is in danger. And there he is, running from the black unicorn who keeps zapping him with fire!

Sky trips and falls! His doom approaches!

I think the Winx direct their steeds to fly down and help sky, but they won’t. They’re scared of the black unicorn. Aisha says they should transform and fly down themselves but Flora has a better idea. She talks to the trees… it doesn’t work, too much negative energy.

Poor Sky dodges some more zaps.

Bloom’s unicorn dives down, it’s trailing rainbow colored sparkles. Then the other winx unicorns get brave enough, they kind of circle the black one trailing rainbows. I think this is unicorn positivifying magic! Heroic music plays! Bloom uses her bond with her unicorn, I think, and they glow all sparkly. All the winx unicorns fly in formation making a rainbow in the sky. Sparkles fall on the black unicorn and he lights up all rainbowy before returning to his usual color. He’s saved!

The girls land, and Bloom makes sure Sky is ok. Tecna snaps her fingers and fixes Sky’s suit, love that.

Aisha goes to say hello to the black unicorn, but even rescued he’s a little standoffish. Here come the unilumens and I think they’re telling the story of the black unicorn. I think he has a tragic past.

Diaspro joins the party and shuts Bloom down when she tries to talk, then says some Diaspro-ish things to Sky. Flora hides her face in her hat. Ooooh, I bet Diaspro just referenced how long she and Sky have been out unchaperoned. Bloom’s pissed. Diaspro snarks back. Sky is embarassed, yeah I bet you are Sky you let her lead you all over the magic dimension.

The black unicorn suddenly advances on Diaspro, who backs away in terror. then—it licks her face and crouches down to let her mount! I wish I knew what Diaspro and the lumens were saying, but it seems this unicorn has chosen Diaspro! She mounts and they fly away. Diaspro calls something back—but is it, “I’m turning over a new leaf, I’m gonna spend time with creatures who want to be around me!” or is it, “Now I’ve got unicorn power, I’ll win Sky’s heart in season nine!” Which is it? I don’t know! Will she still have a unicorn friend next time she comes to bring the couple drama to our show? Sadly, probably not, but it would be way cooler if she did!

Stella’s just glad that’s over.

Bloom gives Sky a stare. The two of them go, ‘hmmf!’ and look away from each other. I groan.

Flora tries to distract from all this and get everybody back on track for the mission and the rest of the Winx get on board, though Stella says something dumb first.

Sky and Bloom argue.

Just dump him Bloom, a guy who doesn’t have the backbone to avoid the ex he hates is about as bad as one who actually still likes the ex.

We escape from that and go flying some more!

The Trix watch from the ground. They chat a bit then go flying after the Winx.

Flying. Bloom and Sky argue. he’s flying with his suit wings, not sharing a unicorn.

Magic barrier ahead! The unicorns light their horns up in a cool visual effect and the barrier opens. Everyone flies through.

They emerge in what looks like the same place except up ahead is a floating island with a horn-shaped tower. So I guess they went to a different part of Monocerous. A purple light shines from a window at the top of the tower.

Instead of just flying there, the unicorns drop the girls off at the bottom of the tower. ‘Cause you gotta dungeon crawl, you can’t just start at the final room! The girls thank them, and the unicorns fly away.

And then the skies grow stormy! Sky and Stella have to jump back from a lightning strike.

And there’s our new favorite Trix! With the other two.

Cosmix time! The ops I love more in Italian but the transformation songs I don’t care about the language as much. Except Sirenix, because Sirenix.

Aisha makes a BIG morphix bubble around the Winx, but Darcy takes her out pretty quick so I guess she overreached herself.

Battle battle fighting fighting, we’ll get the prime star first…

Icy does the smart thing and flies towards the top of the tower. Sky confronts her and Icy… slaps him with a giant ice cube! Ahahaha!

Bloom sees her sweetie flying through the air stuck to a giant ice cube… but Sky uses his suit and unsticks himself. He and Icy grab for the prime star! They’ve both grabbed it! Purple light explodes out of the tower!

Bloom’s flying up to help when she gets whooshed into the purple and the she’s in this… rainbowy iridescent space? The background looks like the glittery cosplay fabric I buy for twenty bucks a yard, but only if I have a really good coupon.

In this magic-space Sky is flying, dodging spears of ice. Icy has some good minimal magic gestures too, she’s summoning big ice stalagmites with just a flick of her finger. I guess the animators haven’t seen Frozen. Sky is trapped. Bloom is upset!

Oh no, Bloom can either help Sky or go after the prime star, which will she choose? She looks back and forth. Sky, to his credit, is trying to escape for himself. He tells Bloom to go after the prime star.

Cool epic fight music! Bloom summons her fire dragon, we see it grow out of her hand. She sends the dragon after Icy while she grabs the prime star. Sky does something with his suit and he lights up and busts out of the ice prison. Hooray! In Italian i think Sky did the “yelling the name of your attack” thing when he lights up his suit.

The star case appears and the star tells them something, I presume about how they got the star because they trusted each other.

Icy comes back for more… but the Winx are ready. Flora blows away all three Trix with a petal storm. We’re blasting off again!

The girls congratulate themselves.

Their unicorns and the unilumens fly by overhead, and Twinkle flies down to join them.

Now would be a good time for… a concert! With only Sky as the audience. Twinkle briefly sits on Sky’s head, which is adorable, then she sits in his arms. I love that, I always felt there wasn’t enough sitting on each other when the girls had their pixies, you know? It seems like the kind of bond that would lead to snuggling, like with kittens.

The girls sing, the unicorns fly overhead, Sky nods in time to the music, then he and Bloom have a romantic moment.

Next time: Winxboards! Mielle! A giant… pokemon?

20 Il cuore verde di Lynphea

Green Heart of Lynphea, I can understand that just from being Latin-based languages.

Alfea! Grizelda is giving a lecture in some place with really big plants. isn’t there a greenhouse that’s like, a portal to another realm with giant plants? Grizelda conjures a book with old-style botanical drawings of plants inside and an oak leaf on the cover. The page it opens to has a blue flower and a pomegranate.

I want to hear more even if I can’t understand it, but the camera follows Flora to an area with normal-sized flowers.

Grizelda lectures. Aisha follows Flora. Flora’s checking out a bush with buds on it. Aisha magics the buds—but instead of blooming, they stick out their tongues at her! Hah! Grizelda comes over and tells Aisha off for using random magic, I assume.

Bloom has a great idea. Is it a concert? Every idea Bloom has this season is a concert.

Tecna touches a flower and it slaps her hand with a little vine. Flora explains… something to Tec.

Stella sings a line to a flower, then talks in a slow hypnotic voice as she tries some magic. The flower spits water at her.

Grizelda gives them a lecture about not upsetting the plant life.

Star case! We’re going to Lynphea! Flora’s happy she’ll get to see her sister.

Valtor’s asteroid! We’re going to Lynphea! Stormy lords it over her sisters that she found the prime star. Darcy has to get between her and Icy. Valtor opens a portal, but Darcy hangs back after her sisters go through, giving Valtor a significant look. Hmm.

Winxboarding! They land at Flora’s house and there’s Mielle! She’s wearing the outfit from season 6 but looks like the age from season 3. I mean, art style yeah, but I’d say she really has de-aged. She comes up about to flora’s waist. We’ll see if she transforms.

She’s still as fiesty as ever, she says she’s coming along and calls a giant ladybug. Flora tells her to stay home where it’s safe, like Flora always does. Bloom backs Flora up; the Trix are dangerous! The star case appears and its compass points the way, so the Winx summon their boards and fly off. Mielle follows on her ladybug, because she’s Mielle. This is exactly what happened in season 7, isn’t it? Mielle follows and rescues them? Flora should just let her come along!

Giant flowers! Winxboarding! A walled garden! that’s where we’re going!

Flora tells them something worrying about the garden… maybe like how you have to be in tune with nature, which the girls certainly were not back at Alfea.

Then there is some singing. Even more random than the rest of the singing, because we can’t see who is doing it!

It’s these weird flower people. They are very weird.

They open the gate into the garden, but before the Winx can run through it grows back closed again. Flora realizes it’s the dance the flower people did that made the gate open. Stella magics the girls into these adorable flower ballerina dresses. Stella’s is the best I think, she’s got orange and yellow that go well together. Musa has good colors too, the others are a bit too pastel for my taste.

Time to dance! the girls leap around—en pointe, which normal people cannot just do, you have to train your muscles like a long time. That’s about the limit of my knowledge of ballet: that it’s a serious physical discipline you have to practice every day. As they leap about the girls’ skirts twirl independently, so this episode must be to sell a doll line with twirling skirts. They dance around, leap in the air, dance on giant flowers. I like the idea that the twirling skirts make them float, that could be a fragment of an idea about clothes that give you powers. Like Mai’s bracelets in Mai-hime, they float out from her arms and she can fly with them. The visual is neat.

It works! The gate opens! The Trix arrive just a minute too late, the Winx have gone through.

Darcy summons an illusion of the dancing Winx to make the gate open. Go Darcy, that is smart! Also how did she do that? I guess they were watching the Winx dance and recreated what she saw.

The inside of this place I’ve been calling a walled garden is really neat. it’s big, it has many levels and a bridge… it reminds me of a Starcastle! That’s what it looks like. It also looks like a wedding cake with several tiers. On top is a very important heart grown with vines. that’s where the prime star will be! There are stairs and paths through the different gardens to get there.

The star case appears and disappears. The flower people, who I think are called lillin, come to guide the winx to the top.

Up one set of stairs! The lillin give the Winx seeds which sprout when they put them down.

Next garden! Lillin raking very small gardens and… aloe leaves with giggling faces? That was weird.

The girls reach the heart at the top! they’re basically walking on tiptoe even while wearing ballet flats. The heart has a door in it and Bloom is sure this is where we’ll find the prime star.

Back with Mielle, she’s caught up with the Trix! She hides behind a bush and listens to them plot. How’d Mielle get in here?

The Winx now walking flat-footed approach the heart when the ground rumbles and up sprouts a… radish pokemon. If there were a pokemon based on a radish, this would be it. This is not the radish spirit in Spirited Away. It looks friendly at first, then roars at the Winx.

Aisha is keen to try violence but Flora tries talking first. She gets nowhere. Mielle comes running up then and she and Flora say a few words.

Cosmix time! We’ll try violence after all!

Flora and Mielle argue, Mielle runs off crying.

Winx vs. radish!

The Trix see Mielle run past and Darcy realizes they can use her as a hostage to get the prime star. She knows Mielle’s name and that she’s Flora’s sister, which is creepy to me. Mielle gets zapped with Darcy-magic.

Winx vs radish! Bloom does her dragon, which goes right through the critter, which then falls to the ground as an actual radish. That fight ended fast!

But here’s Icy and Stormy! As they face the Winx, flora hears Mielle’s voice calling for help. She abandons the Winx to save her sister. Flora searches and finds Mielle passed out under a tree. She says she was attacked by Darcy.

I’m pretty sure this IS Darcy, but Flora heals her sister’s injured leg while the Winx fight the other two. Flora picks up Mielle and they fly up to the heart. The rest are still fighting and I think Mielle says Flora should get the prime star while they’re distracted. This is solid logic and Flora goes into the heart.

It’s a very leafy room with the prime star floating in its hamster ball in the center. Mielle hops out of Flora’s arms and runs to it—and grabs it and turns into Darcy. And laughs and flies off.

So Darcy can change her weight when she uses an illusion; Flora was carrying her and the real Darcy would weigh the same as Flora.

The real Mielle wakes up in the forest. She’s fine, and mad.

The Trix make a clean getaway with the prime star!

Mielle runs up and hugs Flora.

Next scene the girls are back in their space clothes sitting on the front steps of Flora’s house. Flora has guilt over being tricked. Mielle I think says it’s her fault for following, but Flora says something that makes it all right and they smile and laugh. Mielle conjures a rose that sparkles with magic.

I do kinda like that Mielle didn’t rescue them, so it wasn’t exactly the same plot as last season. But i wish She’d gotten to get a little revenge on Darcy!

Then we’re back at Alfea and the flowers from the beginning of the episode have bloomed. Flora casts a spell and sparkles come spiraling up from them. She’s wearing the flower that Mielle gave her in her hair, so I guess sisterly love gave her the magic of nature.

Next time: Melody! Musa’s dad! Riven! Darcy getting up to more stuff! Dance Dance Revolution! Some very strange outfits!

Dumb self ship nonsense about Faba that I spent way too long rambling about last night

I feel like more people deserve to read these mad ravings, which is why I’m posting them (under the cut, mercifully) before I head out to work today.

A little primer so you know what you’re getting yourself into; the Mr. Darcy fantasy of a man learning to grow the fuck up in order to win over someone else while ultimately bettering himself as a person overall is My Fucking Brand(tm) and if you’re not hear for that, then great. Cool. I didn’t make it for you, I made it for me. I do this with fun villain characters because they’re the best candidates for people that have a lot of growing up to do, whether they realize it or not.

Alright, with that out of the way, allow me to recant my crazed tangents from last night/this morning (copypasted from a discord conversation with a friend).

OK so

This fucking idiot is always wearing goggles that have a green tint

I'm willing to bet that it's mainly for safety, but also style because b e a n

Anyway

Fucker doesn't generally see the world without the green filter because of that, so he like assumes that everything is that tinted color

One day I happen to be in his office, maybe dropping off papers n stuff, he didn't hear me come in, something something I end up knocking his goggles off by accident

I do my usual sorrys, making sure I didn't scratch him by accident, and as he's saying "watch where you're going!" He stops himself mid sentence, blinking to adjust to the actual light in the room

I go to ask what's up and he says, sheepishly

"Have your eyes always been so blue? I haven't noticed until now..."

After that he's just thinking "fuck what else am I not noticing???"

Because I think he's pretty self centered/has tunnelvision for himself and his research and would treat his subordinates as interchangeable

But like his pining would evolve into like trying harder to notice and remember things about me

He keeps a little sticky note pad of his observations

And that turns into seemingly random gestures

Like "here, you might prefer these scissors instead. Their supposed to be ergonomic, so ultimately better for your left handedness, right?"

Or like "now I know it's a little early for your break, but if you start it now I'm pretty sure a new Chopped is starting in the break room"

"A little Pikipek told me the you've been having trouble finding rainbow beans for your Pokemon. I just so happen to have these spare ones here I don't intend to keep. I promise you don't have to pay me back, consider them a gift"

Oh he tries to be a stealthy motherfucker, and knowing me I probably wouldn't pick up on it

That is

Until he starts bringing me coffee that's 3/4 part creamer, 1/8 ice and 1/8 actual coffee

At that point I'm just like "okay, pause. What are you doing?"

And before he can feign ignorance I call him out for 1) basically doing for me what is expected of me to do for the rest of the foundation, and 2) only treating me this way when he has several other interns he could very much be treating better

And he trips up a little

"W-well, is it wrong of me to like you more?"

And I'd answer "no, but the rest of the foundation doesn't need to know that, and I'm pretty sure doing the bare minimum when it comes to treating interns like people shouldn't be reserved for favorites"

He gets a little upset because he knows I'm right and ejects himself from the conversation

And while he could terminate my internship then and there, he still wants me around because he's in too fuckin deep at this point

So instead he goes the opposite route, doing Random Acts Of (Spiteful) Thoughtfulness

Like. Actually learning everyone's names to start

Then learning about everyone's reasons for working/interning at Aether, what their hobbies are, basically what he was doing with me but a lot more up front about it

What ultimately happens is that Local Beanman Learns About The Other Half Of The Conversation

Turns out knowing more about the people who work for and with him makes Faba want to impress them in ways that they would appreciate more, which in turn strokes his ego in a far more satisfying way than ignoring their humanity ever did

While still not nearly as well liked as Wicke, respect for Branch Chief Faba becomes a lot less influenced by just his prestigious title and more so by his effort in forming a less robotic feeling work relationship

He does still have an ulterior motive for this; it's all to impress me

A lot of his earlier notes on me talk about my kindness and listening skills, as they're traits he deeply admires in me and made him feel envious that he couldn't convincingly pull off

Slowly he comes to realize that he's capable of those things (to a certain degree), with or without spite fueling him

In being childish to try and prove a point, he ends up learning that if he wants to win me over, he needs to grow up

I imagine he would get to a point where he feels comfortable with asking his colleagues for advice on how to approach me again and confess his feelings

A lot of them aren't all that helpful. "Get her a bouquet! A really, really big bouquet." "Girls calm down when given chocolate, right?" That sort of thing

The advice improves when he explains what went down, and it mostly boils down to "she at least deserves an apology"

And that's what he ultimately gives, explaining "I'm sure you don't want excuses or some grand gestures for me to prove this new leaf I've turned over lately. That wouldn't be the point, after all. I wanted to tell you that... you mean the world to me, and I'm sorry that I tried to claim you like some rare, shiny Pokémon. I'm realizing now that you'd rather not feel like you're being lured away by some uncaring, selfish bastard. You were right about me, and I... respect you too much to make that the end of it. Y-you deserve better, I want to be better. Can you... would you accept that?"

at that point I'm like "it's a start" and give him a peck on the cheek

Faba Found Dead in His Office: Local Branch Chief Ascends to Another Plane After Receiving Kiss from the Woman He Loves

Backstory

The middle child and only daughter of the previous successors of the Moloney Group. A family well known not only for their businesses and wealth, but in the far past was mediums for the living and undead. But even before her parent’s generation that life was washed away from the Moloney’s public name. Radha’s older brother, Darcy is now the rightfully in charge of the family after her father’s retirement.

Since childhood she lived a sheltered life and spent agreat deal of her life learning about the economy, etiquette, and socializing with people and Pokemon alike. Her older brother was incredibly overprotective and did not wish for his little sister to venture despite her wishes to become an trainer. So she decided to run away with her pet Nidoran.

It was incredibly hard for the pampered, shelter girl to try living out on her own but she toughed it out and tried head out for the League. Though over the months of training, battling and collecting badges she couldn’t make it past the Elite Four so an young Radha journed all the way back to Celadon to her family.

She learned that her big brother opened up an volunteer house dueto his long time admiration of the one in Lavender Town which is where their family was originally from (though they kept from the public due to eerie rumors and stories always surrounding the town for image sake) and decided to work there, it’s been a few years now and now she’s the head caretaker though at times she will venture out for adventures.

Riona spent most of her life as a pet for Radha, but after her lady decided to become a trainer the former Nindoran was brought along as her starter. It took a lot of losses and hard training to become a adequate battler. The Nidoqueen’s diligence to better herself and commitment to her trainer is only by her trusting nature. She’s kind and cheerful, but due her previous sheltered pet life her instincts and judgment is lacking.

The first Pokemon Radha caught as an official trainer when the Pidgeot was still an Pidgey. She’s can be very hardheaded around others, Despite Riona being Radha’s strongest and closest Pokemon, Pidgeot is the most protective and responsible of the blonde’s Pokemon; constantly looking out for everyone anyway she can even the point of being a nuisance at times.

1. Which game(s) have you been playing lately?

Dragon Age Inquisition (Inquisitor Adaar/Josephine romance!), The Sims 4, Pokemon Yellow

2. What toppings do you put on your pizza?

I love making homemade vegan pizza (dough and all!) and I usually end up putting green peppers, onions, broccoli, sweet potato (yeah, don't ask), olives, tofu chunks, and *sometimes* vegan cheese. I am just as happy without the vegan cheese, though.

3. What movie have you watched lately that left you pondering? I recently saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch and there's one song in the film inspired by Plato's Symposium so it got me thinking about soulmates, gender, sexual orientation, and all those heavy thoughts that no half-bottle of wine can silence at this time of night.

4. What fanfiction did you recently enjoy? I've been reading @metatiki's Don't Worry, I'll Protect You (Inquisitor!Dorian/Cullen fic). I highly recommend it :)

5. Do you prefer beardy or freshly shaved Steve Rogers? I'll probably receive a world of hate for saying this but I dislike facial hair. Like, a lot. I basically left Canada back in 2010 and went back after 7 years and was like, "Where did all this facial hair come from???" so hate me, all-knowing internet gods, but I am going with fresh-shaven Steve Rogers.

6. If you could create a video game, what would it be about? (Having intercourse with dragons as Garrett Hawke is a suitable answer.) Well, since you stole the only valid answer to this question, I will have to go with something ridiculous. A game set in a world where citizens exist in a caste-like society based on markings they develop as they reach their early years of puberty. The ruling class is a select few, whose markings also give them (mage-like) abilities and they maintain the status quo with an iron fist, making it illegal to marry/copulate outside of one's "class", punishable by death. The protagonist was born in the lowest tier of society but as they come of age, they discover they have one of the rarest kinds of markings that makes them essentially in line to become the next ruler, possessing a unique form of magic. During the annual census, the government forcefully takes them from their home and murders their family, a standard practice to indoctrinate the protagonist by severing familial bonds and giving the protagonist no incentive to escape their 'destiny'.

During the years of being shielded from the rest of society and being trained to become the next head of state, the protagonist learns to bury their hatred. But it festers, the need for vengeance, driving the protagonist to become proficient in their abilities so that they may someday use it against the people who had taken everything from them. As the protagonist reaches adulthood, they become the target of a terrorist attack and in the chaos of the bombing, are captured by the resistance, a rebel group that's been trying to overthrow the government. The protagonist joins the resistance and together, they plot to take down the government. The game would be stealth-based, sort of like a Dishonored-meets-1984, with markings that determine caste.

8. What is something that marked you in 2017?

Like, something that made this year different from all the others? I guess coming out as gay. I've spent way too many years hiding behind incorrect pronouns and secret relationships with women, all the while hating myself for being gay. Still not beyond hating myself for it but coming out, and receiving (mostly) positive reactions is a step in the right direction.

9. Do you prefer Wonder Woman or Thor: Ragnarok?

That's a tough choice because neither film is my favorite in their respective cinematic universes. I'm choosing Wonder Woman because, for as much as I enjoyed Ragnarok, I was really disappointed that Sif, Darcy, and Jane were not in the film at all. The ladies from the Thor films were my favorite female characters in the MCU and I am sad that they may have been written out of the Marvel-verse :(.
