Baddha Konasana
Baddha Konasana or Bound Angle Pose is also called Cobbler Pose. This is a seated asana which helps in stretching the hips, abdominal muscles and thighs. This is a grounding pose that activates the Muladhara, or root chakra. It connects you to the energy of Mother Earth, makes you feel safe and strong, and helps open your hips. The name Baddha Konasana is derived from the Sanskrit words bandha, angle and asana, in which Baddha means to bind or bind, Kona means angle and asana means posture. It gets its name because it involves the soles of your feet meeting while your legs are bent at an angle. Once you are in this pose, you will notice that your folded legs also look like the wings of a butterfly, hence it is also called butterfly posture. ~Baddha konasana~
Baddha konasana is a basic seated asana that opens the hips and the muscles of the groin.
The term comes from the Sanskrit baddha, meaning โ€œbound,โ€ kona, meaning โ€œangleโ€ and asana, meaning โ€œposeโ€ or โ€œposture.โ€
To enter the pose, sit with the back straight, directly on the sit bones of the buttocks. Bend the knees, bringing the feet together in front of the body with the toes, arches and heels pressed against each other while the hands remain on the feet.
Keeping the feet together, bring the heels as close to the groin area as comfortable. Enjoy deep breaths in this pose for as long as needed. Individuals can also practice the pose by gently bouncing the legs up and down like butterfly wings, or by tilting the upper body forward at the hips, keeping a straight spine, to increase the stretch.
Baddha konasana is commonly referred to as butterfly pose in English.

๐Ÿฆ‹ Seated Butterfly/Bound Angle Pose is one of my favorite stretches and is easy to take when sitting on the floor or even on a couch. It's amazing how much tension we can hold in our hips and Seated Butterfly helps it melt away ๐Ÿ˜Œ Some variations to try: For a deep stretch, guide the thighs down with the forearms or elbows while being mindful of how the knees feel. Want to feel the pose differently? Widen the space between the hips and the feet by sliding the feet forward into a diamond shape. Want a gentler variation? Try sitting on a pillow or folded up blanket for some extra cushioning and assistance guiding the hips forward and down. You can also place blocks underneath the knees to allow them to rest.
