Haya the Hedgehog
back in August 2022, i made some dinky designs; Sonic Badniks in the style of Mario enemies. after a while in September, i then got to drawing Sonic, and then the rest occurred.
because further posts will show these designs, i'm somewhat forced to introduce it as a separate post for easier linking for context.
before that, however, i was doodling this Mario-centric Mario/Sonic crossover idea that would act as this introduction to Sonic’s world and his characters to Mario players. basically, some alternate Sonic Forces where Eggman not only captured Sonic, but his friends too, leaving nobody else to come save the world.
so Mario would arrive in this rainbow ring and explore the world to save everyone. big hogablah
because of that, i was thinking how Mario would arrive there, if this version of Sonic's world is part of Mario's universe, if it follows the same lore rules... same... design rules... and that's how i got this child to take care of.
so now we have the Haya Dimension; a dimension in Mario’s universe (think like how Super Paper Mario handled it) where it also has to play along with the rules of Mario. therefore, i put myself within these four rules:
Follow the basic plot beats, not the nitty gritty. The corporate suits above only care about the former, after all.
Change whatever worldbuilding to fit in-line with Mario’s.
Sonic’s name is Haya.
Lower some stakes so as not to cause Mario to travel there and get involved. (Sonic 06 was on my mind when i wrote this)
the Haya Dimension has to be completely outside of Mario’s point of view. nobody there must know the mystery about this dimension. nobody!! not even… Birdo
Differences
yea of course this has to happen. okay uhh i’ll be aping off of my DeviantArt post noting down some differences. note that some of these aren't entirely Mario-related lol
During the Classic Era, Eggman hired a bunch of organic creatures; the badniks are living creatures. Higher-ranking in the Eggman Empire being robots.
Starting in Dreamcast Era, all of Eggman's troops were replaced by robots. This explains E-123 Omega remaining a robot; a modified Topman Tribe husk
Ending in Meta Era (Colors onward), Eggman's troops are both a mix between organic and robotic troops. High-ranking remain robots.
There's no Classic/Modern distinction. Haya Generations looks really different.
There's no physical "future period" in Mario, so Silver is left as a present-day future teller, always relying on the Stars telling him the future.
That there's no "future period" to travel to requires Haya 06 to be rewritten entirely.
The Sol Dimension is a Special World equivalent of Haya's Dimension. Onyx Island comes from the Sol Dimension. Eggman Nega is our Bowser (blue) equivalent.
Cream and Vanilla likely lived on the Moon before becoming homeless after the events of Adventure 2. After that, they moved to Earth.
Sage is designed as a fairy
Honey is a Drag Queen.
Kitsunami's water pack is designed after inter-dimensionally observing E. Gadd's F.L.U.D.D. tech.
Eggman's Goal Plate is a Flag Plate. Spin it all the way down as fast as you can for bonus points.
The magical gems have eyes and special hairstyles. I'm waiting till Sonic Superstars showcases each Emerald's special power before assigning a symbolic hairstyle to them.
it's basically become my personal playground to test my might, my designs, and my writing.
i understand i've yet to fully understand these characters, but i've also done my best to try and write bios for the characters present.
Haya was originally designed as if he were a Mario enemy. he serves as the groundwork design for everyone else. as a Mario enemy, i specifically brought attention to his shoes being a colorful red-yellow.
Eggman went through a ton of designs. they all failed. there's no way to change him. he's already great. his only difference has him with a round nose instead of a triangular one.
his tails were designed after propellers, yet still mutated to still make his bully backstory make sense. the stripes on his tails are designed after propeller wings.
and that's all i wanna share right now. as Reupload Gonanza continues, more and more of these designs will start appearing, each with a slight justification from me behind each designs. be sure to check out the "#Haya Dimension" tag under the post.

You're an enabler and I appreciate you.
I will preface this by saying I'm not really a Shadow fangirl. I like him, but Edgy the Hedgie is not a character I have ever spent long hours trying to crawl into the headspace of. WITH THAT SAID...
The thing I love about Shadow is that he is a character that was explicitly made by artificial means, but is entirely defined by his self-determination. And that, despite all character development and an entire game about it, remains in flux to this day and it is SO COOL as a character conceit.
His whole thing is "This is Who I Am", but the very fact that he needs to decide that and announce it... He is constantly having to question that fact, because he--more than any character in the franchise--does not know if what he is doing is his design or his choice. He IS artificial, but in a world with sentient robots that have emotions, WHAT DOES THAT ACTUALLY MEAN?
In Shadow the Hedgehog (the game), there is ONE easily missed line that confirms he's even the original Shadow - if you don't finish every storyline and the True Ending and hear that one line from Eggman while you're busy trying not to die, there is a lot of doubt that implies the Shadow we know now is just an android clone. And in those other endings, Shadow angsts and dramatises and then carries on anyway, because that does not define him.
And whether he is or not, there's still an awful lot of subtext that implies the original Shadow was designed after the Echidna prophecy of Super Sonic. And when we first meet him in Sonic Adventure 2, he is very much defined by Sonic, even though he's ostensibly unrelated. He had to die lose his memory and find himself to become his own character, and I personally think they played that arc out SO WELL in the games. He is now Shadow, he is separate, he is his own character, with his own family and motivations, but he will never fully escape the fact that he was made to be something else, and can never fulfil that role.
Maria died.
He failed before he even had a chance to try and save her.
So. When I bring Shadow in for the Lost Prince, I am absolutely smacking him with the fact he was made to be an artificial version of a prophecy he wasn't around for. Sonic up and dealt with both Eggman (in the Sonic 3 & Knuckles version of said prophecy) and Chaos (in the Adventure version) before Shadow even woke up.
And that's HORRIBLE. Being reminded that you were made for something, you were made in someone's image, and to then meet that person and realise you never had a chance of being anything like them?
Of COURSE Shadow resents Sonic, even if he kind of likes him, and I could spend another however long this has been talking about their relationship. Sonic is so secure in himself, in his choices. He never questions who or what or why he is. He never feels a need to. He is always confident that what he's doing is right, even when everyone around him is telling him he's wrong. He's so visibly loved by everyone, while Shadow...
Shadow has Rouge. He has Omega. He has Sonic himself, in a strange way. But is that enough?
To me, Shadow is in this constant battle with himself. Whether he's good or evil or right or wrong or whether he serves GUN or if he's making his own choices, or if he's Rouge's friend, or her subordinate, or an alien, or a human, or (in the Lost Prince) a mobian, or nothing at all.
And in this fic, the one constant he has, that he is not Sonic... when Sonic too was supposed to be raised and moulded and built into something almost mechanical... that's been called into question, and... how does one deal with that?
But anyway. Shadow is so complex, and so interesting, and I basically love to poke him.
And it's hilarious that he's going to be voiced by Keanu Reeves, I CANNOT WAIT.

Not trying to bash your timeline, complain or say you're wrong or anything, I just have a few questions just to understand. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
1-why is Sonic 1-GG before sonic 1-MD?
2-I understand why SegaSonic and Tails Adventure could take place at the same time, but why are they and sonic 2-GG between CD and sonic 2-MD?
3-why is chaos between 2 and 3? Doesn't 3 start right after 2?
4-I understand Skypatrol and Labyrinth taking place at the same time but how is knuckles chaotix also around the same time?
5-why is advance between Sa1(+shuffle) and Sa2?
6-If 06 rewrote itself (aka back to the future type of time travel), then how does generations create a split timeline? Can the time eater split timelines?
BTW I could still be wrong so feel free to correct me.

The Sonic 1 Japanese Manual establishes that Sonic and Eggman have had conflicts before, the events of the Genesis game are NOT their first encounter. And the japanese manual also says that Eggman started shoving animals into his robots specifically as a fuck you to Sonic, turning all his friends on the island into his enemies. So considering the Master system/Game Gear version of Sonic 1 has robot enemies that animals do NOT pop out of when you destroy them and also how the first boss of the first stage of Sonic 1 MS/GG is just Eggman trying to ram into Sonic with his Egg Mobile with no weapon attachments, to me it makes sense to say some version of the Master System/Game Gear games events happened before the MegaDrive/Genesis games events.
Sonic CD takes place inbetween Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, something I felt was true even before Sonic Origins came out and confirmed that placement. I personally feel like the events depicted in the Master System/Game Gear version of Sonic 2 make more sense to have happened before Sonic 2 Megadrive/Genesis. Because the plot is Tails being kidnapped and needing to be rescued, so it feels like a more satisfying character arc for Tails to go from damsel to side kick.
When it comes to the Game Gear versions of Sonic 1 and 2 you kind of have to fudge the details a bit because they were not created with the intention of being different stories, but alternate versions of the same story. And also Sonic 2 MS/GG takes place on South Island which is impossible for several reasons lol.
There is an implied passage of time inbetween Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 insofaras Sonic did not IMMEDIATELY just into the Tornado and fly off for Angel Island - the Japanese manual says that he was chilling on a beach and finding washed up artifacts that made him think of an old legend about a lost island, and it was Tails telling him about readings he got on some sonar machine that inspired them to fly off. Eggman is supposed to be more or less trapped on Angel Island sure, but frankly nothing is stopping him from just leaving the island if he wants. The only reason he's sticking around is because that's where the Death Egg crashed, and he wants to repair repower and launch it again. So to me the events of Sonic Chaos could be squeezed in between those two games.
For Sonic Labyrinth Tails Skypatrol and Knuckles Chaotix I just kind of like the idea that Sonic Tails and Knuckles all were off having their own personal independent adventure all at the same time. It feels appropriate that their solo adventures happened simultaneously. Sonic and Tails show up for the ending screen of Chaotix but they're not in the game proper, so they could easily have just flown over after finishing their own games, especially considering Chaotix is just so much Longer of a game than Labrynth and skypatrol.
Advance very clearly takes place after Sonic Adventure since it features Amy in her new red dress design, and it does NOT feature any of the new characters that show up in Adventure 2. So it feels right that it's nestled between the Adventure games. Advance 2 introduces Cream the rabbit before her appearance in Heroes, so that's why that game seems right to take place before Heroes which is after Sonic Adventure 2. Also based on the release dates of the games themselves.
I go back and forth on Sonic 06 but personally I still feel like my justifications for why it should be considered an alternate timeline hold water: Eggman's design is IMPOSSIBLE to explain and NO I do not accept "art style change, non-canon" as an excuse. And Elise having had one of the chaos emeralds in her possession for TEN YEARS literally makes every single game that happens before the events of 06 impossible. Seriously that chaos emerald Silver leaves with Elise that she has in her possession at the beginning of the game is a god damn time paradox in and of itself. Blaze being in Silver's future only to then end up being a native of the Sol dimension is the only thing that could have a plausible Single Timeline explanation but even that is like. Kind of lame, in my opinion. It really undercuts the emotional impact of Blaze's death scene to say that her sacrificing herself to seal Iblis away was ACTUALLY just sending her to be reincarnated in an alternate dimension to be born and grow up as a princess. That's some "Bardock didn't actually die from Freeza's death ball he was actually sent back in time and became the first Super Sayian" shit.
To me the idea that Sonic 06 was an alternate timeline, and the events of Generations and the Time Eater just spliced them into the primary timeline by doing some fourth dimensional timeline fuckery. Battle of Red Mountain style. Sonic Mania spinning off from the events of Sonic Generations because Past Versions of Sonic and Eggman receiving knowledge of future events and that changes their fate is also my natural conclusion, though Sonic Superstars kind of puts a monkey wrench in that. It's a lot easier to wrap your head around if you just consider time non-linearly though.
Everything makes sense as long as you're as crazy as I am lol

The murder of sonic the hedgehog is REALLY good. Its definitely got a lot of love packed into it and it shines through the whole thing. Its a favorite because its a little silly but they still work to take the characters seriously (idk. U can tell the devs really loved doing it. I think its all around a fantastic introduction to the series!)
I’ve been hooked on Sonic from a SUPER early age. Like playing on hand me down consoles and stuff. My favorite game ever was sonic and knuckles or sonic 3 and then it was sonic the fighters. And then every game after that until Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) for the xbox 360 came out and despite the glitches and everything else im sure anyone could tell you about it younger me just found it SO striking. Everything about it. I used to sit and watch all the cutscenes on youtube on the family computer like it was my JOB. Idk where the turning point was I’ve played all the other titles except for a couple here and there more recently but I def think you could start where-ever you want!!!
Theres some games I think most people in the fandom would agree are unplayable or just Bad (for any number of reasons, everyone has their opinions! But think like notoriously bad like sonic boom..or specifically sonic colors nintendo ds version) BUT I’m a firm believer that if Sonic 06 specifically didnt have game breaking issues it would have been a masterpiece (look up project 06…! its a labor of love and it made that game feel like what I thought it did when I was itty bitty and more. Beyond my expectations. Genuinely impressive and really shows how much could have been fixed/polished for gameplay/overall) obviously I’m very biased but 06 is something I’ll never get over and I think more people should see Project 06 because the work put into it is immaculate and really showcases what I loved and still love about that game
The fandubs are good! If you’re looking for more watching stuff instead of playing stuff the original remastered Sonic OVA movie is up on YouTube for free and I think you’d really enjoy that too! There’s some design choices (like knuckles just flying for half the movie/not gliding like he would in later titles) that are more timeline based (like they hadnt gotten a firm grasp in franchise what was what yet etc etc) but it really sticks to that charm that drew me in to begin with so its a 10/10 in my book.
Games I think you could start anywhere you’d like (even if people say you’ve GOTTA play x or y or z or whatever you do what you think you’d like) but as a die hard fan you know I’ve got to mention Sonic Adventure 2 or Heroes or one of those. More ‘recent’ games I’ve really enjoyed that didn’t feel rushed/scrapped halfway through.. Sonic Generations is good, Sonic Unleashed is good (and theres a short film called night of the werehog thats official you could watch!) Frontiers obviously is the best I think we’ve gotten in a while narratively.
And im biased but I really. REALLY like sonic and the black knight. I think it being on the wii was a little bad controls wise but it has some charm! The storybook ones (Sonic & The Secret Rings and Sonic & The Black Knight) were super interesting to me when they came out just because it was a fresh art style lol.. Still very charming to me
The Shadow The Hedgehog game will always hold a special place in my heart and I know you like that guy so if you haven’t checked out that game (it has so many endings.) I think you’d personally love it!!
Other than that I think IDW comics are really great if you can get your hands on em! I don’t read them very often if at all anymore but I keep up to date on new characters in gen (more out of interest for the designs and direction theyre going) but if you EVER get the chance to read the arc with the metal virus you absolutely should. All the comics are great but I think you especially would think that arc in particular is incredible

ONE FINAL NOTE IS THAT SONIC GAMES SOUNDTRACKS DO NOT EVER MISS A CHANCE TO GO HARD AS FUCK FOR NO REASON!!!! All of the games OST’s EVER have at least one song for everybody on planet earth and I will not retract that statement ever. If u havent listened to any I highly recommend it

sonic movie 2 spoilers under the cut i have A LOT to say holy shit
HOLY SHIT THIS MOVIE IS BETTER THAN THE FIRST I LOVED IT
theres so much i want to say but i have NO IDEA how to start or how to end
first and foremost they did knuckles SO MUCH JUSTICE sega wishes they could write as well as whoever the hell made this script. hes no longer the comic relief dumbass, hes a warrior!! like he used to be!! and he has dignity and honour!! and hes a little gullible but its okay, thats how he originally was anyway x
AND TAILS!! his camaraderie with sonic was so great. i loved how he came all the way to help him from whatever planet hes from and how they just bonded so well immediately and theyre already like brothers I LOVE IT
particularly i liked the scene on the beach where sonic and knuckles stopped and breathed for a sec after having lost the master emerald to robotnik and bonded over what happened to them both the day longclaw died. i liked how they related it back as knuckles’s family was fighting against her and UGH it was so sad but it was so great
AND THE REFS! they never cease to amaze me. i counted a dr robotniks mean bean machine ref (which is funny because ive been thinking about booting up my ps2 again to play it, i want to get good at puyo puyo), a sonic adventure reference during the dance off in siberia, AND ALL THE SONIC 3 AND KNUCKLES REFS!! jesus christ. theres probably more, but theyre slipping my mind
post sleep edit, remembered the manuel in the death egg looking like a manuel for a sega genesis game, that got a chuckle out of me iirc LOL
also kinda feel bad for rachel and what happened in her wedding. poor girl got set up and for what😭 a sting operation? its positively TRAGIC

i did have a few gripes though. theyre a bit miniscule though
first of all, fuck whoever decided robotnik should floss. fuck you for that
second, did not enjoy how small the emeralds were. i know its probably so they can make sense in a human filled world but the emeralds were literally the size of my finger. and the master emerald was the size of ONE in game chaos emerald
also was a bit weirded out by agent stone drawing robotnik in his lattes but ummm hes gay so its fine idk the fujoshis will have a field day with that
alsooo kind of sad there wasnt anything with crazy carl drawing tails gets trolled or uganda knuckles. that wouldve been funny i think

Dude, the "Shadow is 15" thing is from an official character sheet, for SA2 iirc. I can’t link it as an anon but just google it. In theory I agree with your take of years in consciousness and artificial being and whatnot, but 15 is actually the age that was intended for him and that he’s labeled as. (If sonic chars talked about their age ever)

Lo and behold, Shadow still isn't 15, so I'd rather not receive whatever link you get your information from unless you have a verified original document in print to match my own documents at home. but nice try :")
here's the heroes manual that states shadow doesn't age, has no verified time of creation, and is labelled as ageless moving forward by quite literally everything in the canon, which has never officially given him an age. why? because he's ageless.
kachow. no theories or deep dives needed, and if they wanted to be adamant on shadow's age being 15 they'd fucking put it under all his character profiles since his debut 01: but they didn't. because he isn't 15.
sure, he might look like sonic— SEGA wanted an aesthetic and temperamental reflection of the blue blur (hence his initial name being terios) and their abilities are matched, but that doesn't mean that shadow, within the actual sonic lore, just magically gets labelled as 15 for being like sonic. even if you wanted to read into things too far it wouldn't make logical sense— like, tell me how the FUCK would gerald robotnik predict the age and existence of sonic approximately 35 years prior to his birth (if we count shadow being put in stasis the same year he was created) and make it so his ultimate creation who cannot age... will be permanently underdeveloped as a teenage hedgehog... so he can uh, provide symbolism in the 21st century for events that haven't happened? "mural theory" ok that doesn't have sonic's age on it either, gerald wasn't thinking about if sonadow would be shippable for you guys when he made a bioweapon.
^^^ oh you thought it was gonna end there? NOPE! because even if you think shadow lived for 15 fucking years before being put in stasis, hence why he's 15, NEWSFLASH! maria isn't 15 so gerald would have made shadow before she was even born (incompatible with the lore) and even if we retcon that, he wouldn't even be able to make shadow because the black comet comes every 50 years. "well that doesn't mean shadow couldn't have lived for 15 years after black doom came, then gone into stasis for 50 years!" yeah it does lol 15+50=65, the black comet comes every 50 years. in order for shadow's game to occur, it has to be half a century after gerald created him. so uh, your 15 isn't gonna fall out of someone's ass no matter how many ways you try to push it.
anyways, if you have to try that hard to refute the ageless canon, you're digging for ways to override it. which is misinformation. don't do that.

After @ultraericthered pointed out that their behavior is exactly why the Sonic fandom gets such a bad rep online, the SammyClassicSonicFan Gang apparently had themselves a group therapy session where they told themselves comforting lies rather than actually engage with arguments and facts. And I just need to show some of them; they’re too good to pass up.
No, that’s what I’m doing to you now. What I was doing before was giving reasonable arguments as to what about SatAM warrants legit criticism and what doesn’t, and how all of its flaws and inaccuracy to the game doesn’t make it an invalid take on Sonic particularly when you consider the context of the times and position the show’s developers were in with SEGA of America. Rather than respond to that, you went “La la la la, I’m not listening!” and regurgitated your old positions as if I hadn’t just given you new information to consider.

Also, way to miss ultraericthered’s point - he was being sarcastic about your “an adaptation must always adhere to game canon!” stance because Lost World is a canonical game, its events and characterizations are therefore canonical, so by your own logic Tails behaving like that is part of his canon characterization and should be adhered to in adaptations. As we will see later, these peoples’ definition of “dismissing the mainline game” is “pointing out issues with them”, and they’re accusing us of doing it out of bias toward SatAM...which I have also pointed out issues with, repeatedly. Nuance and an even-handed perspective, what is it?

How anyone can read what we posted and say we were “treating the side canon as the mainline canon” is beyond me. What we were saying is that the game canon is the mainline canon, the side canons are the side canons, the mainline canon is not obligated to feature anything from the side canons but the side canons are also not obligated to do everything like the mainline canon does it. If you’re really an Underground fan, you should agree with that.
So “shitting on” certain games or certain aspects of certain games = “dismissing the mainline games canon”. Right. I’m a big fan of the original Sonic game, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the Adventure titles, Unleashed, Generations, the Storybook titles and Sonic Mania, see a lot of positives in games like Lost World and Sonic Forces even if I think they overall failed in execution, and even have a nostalgic fondness for that shitty 3D racing game with the Tails Doll.....but nah, I totally hate the games canon and am just a SatAM fanboy.
It boggles my mind that this is what people like this actually believe. The vast majority of people I’ve seen don’t ignore the games canon and love it on the whole, they merely have justified constructive criticism about many of its post-2000 entries. These people apparently think any criticism of the games canon is an attack on it and that everyone should just shut up and unconditionally love every game ever released because they’re part of the core canon.
Note that neither I nor ultraericthered have used the “SEGA stan” label. I agree it’s ridiculous.

This is literally insane. It’s an argument I never once made. I never said the games have to be non-canon. They are fucking obviously canon - the CORE canon, as has been said before. The argument is that not every sub-canon needs to ape the core canon in order to be a good and valid interpretation of Sonic. That’s it. Also, I’ll tell you how the core canon won’t improve: jumping down the throat of everyone who likes parts of the franchise that are different from it (while still enjoying the core canon too, mind you!) and dares to suggest they be allowed to consider them as Sonic and themselves as real Sonic fans, not “normies”.
More misrepresenting the argument to comical degrees. I never regarded the games as “secondary canon”. I literally called SatAM and the Archie comics “sub-canons”. These clowns think me talking shit about games mean I disregard the games as canon in favor of SatAM and the Archie comics, which ignores that I talk shit about SatAM and the Archie comics too. I’m a free-thinker, I’m not gonna blindly worship or blindly condemn anything.

Yes, and that mindset is stupid. Just like your mindset of expecting Sonic to always be exactly like the core canon. There should preferably be overlap, but differences should be allowed.

So yeah, it’s been fun, but also really sad. I’m a lover of Sonic as a whole franchise (games, shows, comics, movies, etc.) and I wanted to make the case “Hey, even if SatAM, an admittedly flawed show, isn’t your cup of tea, couldn’t you still acknowledge it as Sonic and its fans as Sonic fans whose views are just as valid as your own?” and the response I got is “WAAAAH, YOU’RE JUST A BLIND SATAM / ARCHIE FANBOY WORSHIPPER WHO HATES THE GAMES AND WANTS TO CONSIDER THEM NON-CANON! GTFO OF HERE, HERETIC! WHEN WILL YOU LEARN THAT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!?”

do u have any advice for writing amy rose? i am trying to get back into writing fanfiction again and i love yours so much so i thought i'd ask for ur take on her character.
A short analyzation on Amy Rose.
I want to start by saying that I really appreciate the support and I am honored that you asked my intake on Amy’s character. So, I am not a professional writer or anything for that matter however I will give you my intake on Amy Rose as a fan and how I perceive her as a character. So, let’s start!
The positive and negatives of Amy Rose
To write a good character we need someone who people can relate to. This character needs to be three dimensional, meaning that they act like a person. Someone who struggles, thinks, learns and develops. This character has good and bad. Good written characters are not all good nor all bad so let’s think about that while we talk about Amy Rose.
Canonically speaking Amy Rose has a lot of good traits:
-Loves unconditionally
-Loyal
-Kind
-Cares for others
-Determined
And negative as well:
-Has an explosive personality, gets angry easily
-Has no patience
- She takes other’s needs into consideration but hers. (This may be seen as a good quality but on the long run it actually isn’t. This is more of a personal opinion but I think it is important to consider our own happiness as well.)
-Obsessive (Although we can see she has grown out of this recently
-Stubborn
You can play around with these but we can talk about that later.
Amy’s uniqueness
Alright so now that we know her good and bad, let’s talk about her character. The unique thing about Amy Rose is that out of the Sonic characters she has been the only one who has shown development. (Besides Shadow in 06, but that didn’t happen so all his character development went to the trash lol)

In conclusion, Amy stopped being that obsessive, she developed. Our pink hedgehog is now independent and pretty much do whatever she pleases. She is not as attached to Sonic and although she still loves him, she now thinks for her own and may even question his decisions from time to time. I believe she does her own thing now and wants to give him Sonic his space as well. For me Amy can be described as ‘Cute & Dangerous’
Amy’s interaction with other characters.
Alright, so Amy Rose is a pretty solid character and it’s a cinnamon roll. So, her bad qualities are not going to show up as often. For these negative (and good) qualities to show, it all depends on circumstances and character interaction. Just take a few minutes and think about it …
How will Amy interact with Rouge? Would she be more open and let get girly side show up? Will they even be friends? Does Amy see Rouge as an older sister?
How will Amy interact with Shadow? Would they be friends? Or would their personalities just crash? Does Shadow’s character take out the worst on Amy?
How does Amy interact with Sonic? With Knuckles? Cream? Tails?
This also depends in what kind of story and circumstances you will place Amy in. Does she live in our world and is struggling to get by the days? Does that make her stop caring about herself and only focus on work? Does she still love Sonic but he doesn’t love her back so that makes her depressed? Will she be stubborn enough to get him to love her? Will she love him regardless and put her happiness aside? Or is she afraid that she won’t be able to find happiness or love? Maybe she has other things in mind besides love? Maybe she wants to do her own adventures? Or she just wants to open up a café and live a peaceful life forever?
As you can see, you can explore a lot of situations with her character. So, here are some (in my opinion) relationships that Amy would have with other characters. (Based on canon and personal opinion)
Amy/Sonic: Love interest of course, but its platonic romance. Care deeply for each other. Friends for life. Sonic is just not that interest in love right now but that doesn’t mean he can’t love others or Amy.
Amy/Knuckles: Older brother and sister. Both are matured when needed and protect each other.
Amy/Silver: Crazy all the time together, plan the stupidest shit and get away with everything. Besties.
Amy/Shadow: (I can honestly write an entire essay as to why this two have such good POTENTIAL platonic or romantic but anyways) They are ok with each other’s presence. Won’t willingly talk to each other unless they are forced to. Once they do though, I can see them hanging out from time to time. They are friends and nobody expects that from them.
Amy/Rouge: Rouge is the big sister and Amy the little one. Amy goes to her for advice and talk about things she can’t talk about with Vanilla or Cream.
Amy/Cream: Amy is the oldest sister and she takes care of Cream and advises her. Amy would do anything for her.
Amy/Blaze: I think she will be the closest to her. Amy has helped Blaze open up and they are really good friends.
Alright now, some tips:
1. Feel free to write your character according to your interpretation.
There is no good or bad way to write a character. At the end of the day everything comes down to character interpretation. I personally see Amy as a young adorable, fashionable girl who is not afraid to express how she feels. She can be sweet and dangerous and she won’t let anyone step on her unless is totally necessary. However, you may see her or interpret her differently and that’s completely fine!
2. Let your character feel, suffer and develop.
I cannot stress this enough, everyone is a sucker for a character development. Not everything has to be flowers and sunshine. Let your characters have flaws, let her to be annoying or a cry baby, what matters here is that you DEVELOP them throughout the story.
3. Plan ahead and don’t
First, write down the kind of story you want to write. Romance? Adventure? Mystery? Then start writing your characters. After you are done writing your characters, analyze them. However, I was once told that your characters are kinda like your kids. You made them but you don’t ever truthfully end up knowing them. Just like people, we have our embarrassing, sad, happy moments. We even have our ‘Out of Character’ moments. Just explore your characters, let them be free as they can.
Amy Rose is a very versatile character. If you think about it, Amy can literally be in any story and she still be such a good character to write about. She is funny, entertaining, stubborn and obsessive. She can be so many things! At the end of the day, it all really depends on how you develop her.
I hope this helps somehow? Like I said before I am no expert but this are some tips and character analyzation that has helped me when I write stories. I am honestly SUPER excited to see what kind of stories you come up with and if you ever need help with something else let me know! If you do end up writing a fanfiction, please do tag me! #NotAPrompt saddly:( Anyways hello hope ur having a good! So from an amazing writer to your fellow beginner writer. How do you organize ur ideas or outline it before you start a sonamy story?
Thank you and great question!~
When you start any story, there needs to be a written Outline, or spine, of a story. Loglines also help to organize a clear direction for your story– example: Sonic, a free-spirited and adventurous hedgehog, and his friends must collect all 7 chaos emeralds to stop Eggman and a released, ancient god of destruction from threatening their world. - Logline I made up for Sonic Adventure. A logline is one sentence that clearly establishes a character and conflict.
Once you have some ideas, let’s say maybe you have the middle worked out or the exciting incident, you then create an Outline. Act 1, Act 2, Act 3. Act 2 should be the longest and biggest portion.
In my prompts, I usually hurry through Act 1 to get you to the exciting incident and then smoothly transition through a wrapped up conclusion.
Act 1 should be small, almost equal to Act 3′s plot points. Act 1 is you introducing the normal life before something twists it around, the conflict. The conflict is the starting point to Act 2, where you begin the rising action.
(the most simplest form. There are other arcs, such as ‘Character Obstacles’, ‘Character Tragedy’, and ‘Character Hero Story’. There are a few more too, but those are the ones I write the most of :)b There’s even a romantic one! Look them up and find your favorites in your own stories, comics, or movies ;)b)
For example, in my lastest Sonamy story, the turning point for the characters was when Amy also got sick with Sonic. This changed the normality which was that Sonic was originally sick, and now, the conflict begins of how are they gonna hide from the robots while both being squished together sharing leaves and turning ditzy in their sickness? I then lead that to Act 3, where silliness does ensue but they end up having a memorable, although disgustingly funny, platonic moment together that turned sweeter and even romantic as the conclusion unfolded. (Prompt: x)
Granted, this story is NOT a work of art haha XD I was inspired to make it, but the plot to it was extremely simple, which is why no real ‘action’ takes place and it’s all character emotion that drive the plot forward.

Many ways a character can express or subtly hint at their emotions. Sometimes they’re impulsive and transparent, wearing their hearts on their sleeves. (AMY) Sometimes their shy or subtle, opting to mask their emotions deep below the surface until they can’t help but ‘leak’ their emotions out during the climactic reveal and ‘breaking point’ for their character or plot summary. (Sonic.) Sometimes their so out of it, or not even in tune with their own emotions that they play them off and go cynical with it all. (Sometimes, I see this as Classic Sonic, but not always.), there are many more. Find them all! lol
As for my bigger fanfictions, I do make a summary, which is the full story condensed into a page or so worth of ‘notes’ as I refer to them. It’s not as neat as labeling Act 1-3, but it does give me a basic outline.
For Example, you can’t use your summary outline for your summary to your story. Your summary should have the reader asking questions so they’ll want to engage with the story. Instead, your Summary Outline should look like this:
Sonic and Amy, during a normal fight with Eggman, suddenly mention a tough topic for the both of them that causes some bickering and tension. When the tension accelerates beyond normal teasing, the two end up accidentally losing their tempers and hurting each other. Eggman, deciding drama’s not what he wanted today, sends a fully-armed attack at them while their distracted, thinking it a good opportunity to catch Sonic off-guard. However, though Sonic looks like he’s about to get whammed by the ambush, Amy pushes him out of the way and they survive. Amazed, Sonic rushes over to her, “Amy! W-why… Why did you jump in the way like that? I don’t get it… Weren’t you mad?” He hovers over her as she weakly squints an eye up at him (NOTE: This part is getting more detailed, can you tell? It’s the climax of the story and should have much more detail and notes going on. Even dialogue that can be rewritten or changed. It’s okay to have notes like this for your most dramatic scene, and keep the rest of it generally swift, but try not to go too vague. If you do, you may forget how you wanted to write that part, and that’s NO GOOD! -Sonic reference, lol!) “S-Sonic… Don’t you understand?!” She wobbly gets up to lean up into his face, “No matter how mad you may make me, or how awful our bantering gets, I will still love you no matter what!” (Exciting Incident, Amy’s confession, which will lead to a reaction in not only Sonic but the audience. This is the height of the climax and when things start to go down, but Sonic’s climax is right after this– example: ) Sonic, taken back by her words, suddenly smiles, “I can do no wrong by you… can I?” Amy smiles, and when Sonic realizes she’s not teasing or messing around this time, loses the smile and has his eyes scan her for any sign of humor. When none is found, he embraces her, “…Thank you… Amy.” (This is the point you begin the falling action, which is also the beginning of Act 3, which starts at the ending of the climax and continues towards the resolution, the lasting effect or result of the climax. What has now changed for the characters? What is their new reality? In Drama, there needs to be a few players: Victim, Villian, and Rescuer. Rescuer has to lose every time, then the dynamic will change to Victim as a Villain, and Villian as Victim. This then turns into ‘Creator of the drama’ which is neither victim nor villain, to two supports, ‘Challenger’ Sonic then turns to Eggman, cocky and snarky as usual, but this time, with an arm around Amy’s shoulders. They fight together and beat Eggman, still lightly joking with one another, but not as bad as before. Eggman is confused, defeated, he asks what happened. Amy and Sonic confidently look to each other, and together, wink slyly and say, “Friends fight together!” Before Sonic says, “Doesn’t mean they’ll leave ya if you have different opinions then them.” He smiles to her as she nods and continues his sentence for him, looking to him with love and admiration. “It just means you’re two different people, and that’s just fine by me! Otherwise, the world would be so boring!” (The lesson is usually delivered towards the end of Act 3, maybe not as strongly as this was. Sometimes, the lesson can be subtle and should be too. You don’t want to write ‘on the nose’ unless you’re writing for children very young, but in my opinion, Children are super smart too and pick up on a lot! My advice is to write strongly and powerfully even if it’s just for children audiences. They’re smarter than you think!) “And dull!” Sonic remarks, as the two of them laugh. Unable to comprehend their strange mood swings, Eggman grips his head and ducks down, frowning profusely, “Ahh… Now I have a headache…” (
And by the end, your audience will have understood the climb your characters took to reach that resolution, and they–themselves–reach a conclusion to their emotional relief. (People hate cliffhangers so much because you leave the Audience suspended in their need for closure, but that also addicts them to your story… so Authors can’t help but use it XD But we hate having it used on ourselves!!! Curiosity doesn’t kill your story, only your cat! And the satisfaction of knowing brings it back ;)b)
Was it hard for your characters to reach a conclusion?
Did that help? Lol This plot I made was rather simple, but I hope it taught it some stuff I like to think about when making a story! :D Drama is SO IMPORTANT! Remember to think of their character cores as well, what traits could create conflict in them and in others? What traits could help them learn and cope through that trauma? These are all important, and Romance usually has a ‘revelation’ or ‘impulsive excitement push’ around 10-15 pages/minutes when writing or watching a romance plot. I call it the ‘push’ because you can tell the writer is trying to nudge the two together. In film, you see them get bumped up against each other and then apologize but the girl moves her hair as a distraction and the boy looks away, but both are nervous and awkwardly blushing. That’s another ‘push’ in my book towards the romantic subplot.)
(Then they notice their cute, they keep seeing each other, la-de-dah, even AMY wanted this to happen!)
(Remember, this is Amy’s ‘day-dream’ sequence, it’s interesting how she thinks of Sonic, versus how he actually portrays himself. Useful info for writing Sonamy XD)

I thought that watching Primal would elicit the same emotive quality in me, that watching the expressions in Godzilla vs King Kong and Rampage did. But turns out those giant animals were much more affectionately empathic than the giant animals in Primal. The relationship between Spear and Fang isn't just affectionate caring. They get annoyed with each other, have fights, and aren't so "touchy feely". Primal reminds me that there is a wider range of emotions that can be silently emoted.
(Sorry I didn't write reactions to ep1-3. I've been trying to not turn everything I watch into a production.)

This series has got me on so high-alert, that I keep expecting something horrible to appear as part of this peaceful cove. I thougth the butterflies would be poisonous. I thought a big sea serpent woudl appear from the deeper part of the water. I thought the pollen would be poisonous. I thought that some bigger predator would appear, to explain why the fish were too docile or why the resources of that cove weren't used up already.
Hey, the title of the episode is "Rage of the Ape Men". Maybe that cove was a sacred site that no one was supposed to touch.
Well, if you wanted to set up a society that's super ritualistic or religious, without dialogue, this is how you do it. O.o
With the beatings that Fang can take, sometimes I think she has a healing factor...and an indestrucable skeleton...She's Wolverine. lol

So isthis poor infected dino infecting the water supply? ;_; Well, if it wasn't by drinking before, spewingblood into the water now is going to do it. ;_;!
The sad part is whoever fights the zombie apatosaurus to save the eggs is going to get bit and infected.
Why is the infected zombie dino faster than the healthy dino running away????? Noooo! Don't die! Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! ;O;
Well...now I remember how burtal this series is.
Dang,this zombie apatosaurous is scary.
I was afraid it was going to start infecting a herd of another pack of dinos at the bottom of that canyon.

Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal ep9 "The Night Feeder"
omg I can't believe that Spear didn't take Fang's celar warnign to run away!
Maybe a big snake? Fang is already established to be freaked out by snakes after the River of Snakes episode. And the big cat's killing must have been set in a jungle for a reason.
Nevermind. That predator perspective sounds like feet.
Why arne't the triceratops continuign to run?!?!???? ;O;!
Well, if it's a "night feeder" maybe they're safe by the fire.
Oh yeah, predators can come in teh day, just as much as night in this world. They may not be accustomed to a "night feeder" that only comes at night. Reminds me of how my dad who grew up in a haunted house, used to always say how funny it was that horror movie ghost stories always took place at night, as if scary/weird things didn't also happen in the day too.
It's funny how much tension is in that fire going out, while simply knowing the title of this episode.
So scared for Fang not being shown running as fast as Spear. Evne though I know she can.

And why is it so fast? Sonic blasts?
What the heck? Why did Spear and Fang run in different directions? Ok, and what's teh black goo?
I was scared before, but now I"m just curious what the monster is.
Having this final battle with this specialized tactic from the protagonists, but shown from the perspective of the enemy/monster is really interesting.
It was just another dinosaur? Really? Ok, sure. I guess sometimes there are just all types of dinos.

Wait a second. Is Primal actually set in a "land of the lost"? And not just prehistoric times? omg
Well, she recognizes the plants in this area so it can't be all that different from where she comes from. If her civiliation has agriculture and uses the same plants... So this isn't a "land of the lost" situation.
I was just thinkign that if she comes from an organized settlement civilization she would have been the type of person who would've tried talkign to Spear already. lol. So she says her name is "Mia".
i'm really surprised that Spear missed teh chicken, but I guess it was a little small for his usual targets.
I'm always excited to watch a sequence of "Telling a story through pictures" made by animators and cartoonists. I feel like I'm about to watch a masterclass in effective storytelling.
Gotta pan back to show the carnage left behind! lol Most of the carnage in this series is beautiful or feels meaningful, but what was that pan?
So Mia's captors took her back...And they put up skulls of the tool-using primates to scare them off?

PLAYLIST SHUFFLE TAG!
Okay, so @viterbofangirl tagged me in this and I need to start learning to post my own shit, so what the hell, why not?
Rules: you can usually tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to! put your favorite playlist on shuffle and list the first 10 15 songs, then tag 10 people. no skipping!
(I couldn’t stop at 10 so I added 5 more, sue me)
I have very random music taste and I listen to my music on shuffle alot, so I made a playlist of the ones I like the most (that way I don’t hafta skip 150 songs to get to the one I feel like) so I’m gonna use that one.
1) History of Violence - Theory of a Deadman
Hoo boy starting off light huh?.... Yeah so, I was in the drive thru at Sonic when I first heard this on the radio and was immediately like “holy shit”. Instead of like metaphors and poetic subtlety, it’s just straight up like “here’s a poor abused woman who resorted to murdering her shitty boyfriend/husband cuz she couldn’t take it dum dum dum”. Even though the actual situation is not the same, this song is perfect for getting across the internal issues and turmoil of my character Mikey. Its so perfect I’m even planning to animate something for it...... if I ever get around to learning animation that is.....
2) The Vengeful One - Disturbed
Two songs in and I look kinda emo.... But hey this song is soooooo cathartic! I love me a good heavy rock song, and the drums and electric guitar are perfect for my ears to absorb. This song gives off a feeling of overwhelming power mixed with a coldness and disdain for the bad in the world. Obviously, thats not my usual temperment, but its an interesting one to explore! Especially when I’m trying to get into the head of characters that exude that like my OCs Spark or Ryu. Plus its fun to sing in the car X)
3) Enter Sandman - Metallica
Okay this one is just a classic! Same thing with the drums and guitar they both slap SOOOOO GOOD. I don’t really associate this song with any of my characters or fandom favorites, but it DOES give me a super strong urge to learn the drums. EXXXXXXXXIT LIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT! OFF TO NEVER NEVERLAND!!
4) We Are Giants - Lindsey Stirling ft. Dia Frampton
I don’t really to listen to music by band or artist, but I LOVE Lindsey Stirling!!! She’s probably my favorite musician! This is such a good song, especially for someone like me. Its a positive song that talks about feeling alone in a crowd and unimportant to the world, but how you really do matter and shouldn’t be afraid to dream big and shoot for the stars. It really speaks to me and the vocalization is so good (especially for singing), not to mention the official music video is animated and AMAZING!
5) Cetus - Lensko NCS
I dunno if anyone knows this song, but damn its good. Its one of those Royalty-Free songs that people look up for their channels, which is how I found it in the first place, but I loved it immediately. Its a peppy 8-bit electronic bop that turns a little Irish jig at the end and honestly I think if I ever start an animation channel I’m totally gonna use it! (Also go support Lensko he make good beats!)
6) Sanctuary - Utada Hikaru
I did not grow up with Kingdom Hearts, and only played KH2 within the past year n’ a half. But good God, the moment that Cinematic Opening came on and this song started playing I swear I astral projected into a daze of feelings without names. I know that “Simple and Clean” is the quintessential Kingdom Heart song that gives everyone feelings, but IMHO Sanctuary blows it out of the water. As beautiful as the animation was, or how curious the occasional backwards lyrics are, or how weird it is having high-res Goofy and Donald in what is essentially an anime opening, I really can’t be distracted from this song when I play.
7) Chemical Plant Zone (Rock Remix) - Zerobadniks
Chemical Plant Song is like, one of the TOP Sonic songs by popular vote (and we know how awesome the Sonic series is musically so thats saying something!), but I could never quite vibe with the normal 8-bit version. I think I first heard this as someone’s ringtone and was immediately like “THATS PERFECT THATS EXACTLY HOW I NEED IT!”. The rock makes the song soooo much better and honestly gives the song the perfect vibe. Unfortunately, it took FOREVER to find cuz none of the Rock Covers of this song were the right one. In fact, tbh, I’m not even sure whether Zerobadniks is the correct artist..... that’s just who everybody was crediting when I found it.

8) The Wolf - SIAMES
YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT ANIMATED MUSIC VIDEOS???? THIS IS A GOD-TIER ANIMATED MUSIC VIDEO. I found the video first, and seriously, if you haven’t seen it YOU NEED TO!!! The beat works perfectly with the images on screen and the story being portrayed is really intriguing, with the lyrics adding to atmosphere without necessarily describing the visuals shown. Even without the animation, the song itself is a banger. It bring to mind the feeling of intense motion forward, but unable to decide whether its movement TOWARD something or AWAY from something. I love listening to this on a nighttime drive.
9) Burn the House Down - AJR
If you ask me, the best way to make a pop song better is to add either violins or trumpets. For this song, it was definitely the trumpets that first caught my attention, and the rest of the song kept me listening. I don’t really know how to describe the vibe of this song, and I don’t have a specific character or story in mind when I listen to it, so its a little hard for me to talk about it. I think the best way I can describe this song and what draws me to it is a feeling of nonchalant go-with-the-flow attitude to shenaniganry. Almost an undertone of “We’re hooligans in a situation that we probably should get out of, but hey we’ve got life and each other so why worry?” At least that’s the closest I can get to a verbal description heh...
10) Slim Pickens Does the Right Thing and Rides the Bomb to Hell - The Offspring
DANCE, FUCKER, DANCE, LET THE MOTHERFUCKER BURN!!!
So this also has a KICKASS animated music video, but its technically combined with the song “Dividing by Zero”. Now the video works SO well with both, and the shifting artstyles reflect the differing tones of the songs PERFECTLY. However, I have a preference for both the animation and the song on the Slim Pickens half. Its fun to listen to and sing at the top of your lungs and its SO CATHARTIC. Again I cant really describe what my head does when I hear it, but I think you can probably feel a similar vibe if you watch the music video.
11) No Heaven - DJ Champion
The first time I finished the original Borderlands, I had been playing for days on end, had just finished a long battle with the Destroyer, and sitting back relieved to have beaten it and reflecting on how much I had enjoyed the adventure. Then this song started playing. For what I believe was forty minutes this song looped on my TV while the credits rolled. By the time the credits finished I was pulling up the song to listen to again! What an absolutely PERFECT cherry to add to this experience. This song perfectly encapsulated the chaotic, trigger-happy, morally ambiguous craziness that I had enjoyed and absorbed in this game. Every time I hear it now, I imagine myself in the wastelands of Pandora, driving haphazardly across the sandy dunes as my companions and I shoot and blow up everything in sight. You know, living the dream.......
12) Hit & Run (Wolfgang Lohr Remix) - The Electric Swing Circus
I fucking LOVE electro-swing! The electronic beats and rhythm blend so well with the wild and energetic freedom of swing. A lot of electro-swing gives me a vibe of wild movement, reckless abandon, and freedom from constraint. I think this song melds all of these feelings the best! As the last song might have indicated, despite my general nice and sweet temperament, there is a part of me deep down that is an absolute gremlin secretly enamored with chaos, insanity, and a general disdain for law and authority X). But whereas anything Borderlands related has a more “morality is an illusion blowing shit up is real” air about it, this song is far more peppy. More of a “good-hearted but insane” type of chaos, like an 100mph car chase where you end up sailing over the train tracks JUST as the train passes.
.... I may have gotten a bit off track lol
13) Kickstart my Heart - Motley Crue
I love this song, but I have to be VERY careful when and where I listen to this. I love songs that make me feel like I’m going a million miles per hour, like I’m gotdam Sonic the Hedgehog. Unfortunately, I may or may not have had multiple instances of listening to this song in the car and abruptly realizing that I’m going like 15mph above the speed limit...... So yeah, regardless of absolutely perfect it feels to play this song while speeding down a nearly empty highway, please be careful and drive responsibly!!!
14) I’m Born to Run - American Authors
Imma just up and say it. This song is a Sonic song; like not like actually from the series but a song for the character. This song encapsulates Sonic as a character better than some of his ACTUAL THEMES (and remember Sonic music are bangers!). Its a song about freedom, living life as it comes, and not letting anything slow you down. Frankly I’m surprised they didn’t make this song FOR the Sonic series, or even the movie! Speaking of which, ironically I heard this song right after watching the Sonic movie in theaters, so yeah there’s no way I can associate it with anything else.
15) Opa Opa - Antique
Oh, what a PERFECT way to end this list! This may be one of my absolute favorite songs of all time! I don’t remember exactly how I found this song... I think I had just relistened to Dalar Mehndi’s “Tunak Tunak Tun” and was looking for other catchy non-english songs and BOY HOWDY I found one! I know nothing about the band or what the song’s about (its in greek and i dont speak it), but this song is just a masterpiece of retro, pop, and dance sounds. This song feels like the musical and lyrical manifestation of dance and movement. I really REALLY wish I could dance JUST so I can express how happy and free this song makes me feel! This is the BEST song for me to end this list with!

Sonic Ring Bond - THE EYES OF THE WORLD - Chapter 2
Well, so much for getting chapter 2 done quickly lol. I can't believe it's been a month already since I published chapter 1. I didn't mean to take that long and had honestly thought I was far faster than that. Well regardless, with my apologies for taking so long, here is chapter 2 at last!

Chapter Synopsis: Having escaped from Eggman thanks to a timely rescue by Mighty the Armadillo, Rosy recovers from Eggman’s concoction used to keep his living batteries docile and in top form. But she knows that he is hard at work on his latest scheme and it has little to do with her, but how can she convince everyone to care when they are all fretting over her?

High above the world drifting through the clouds, steam powered airships built around steel bodied balloons and covered in wings, sails, and propellers connected civilization across the skies. It was a far safer form of travel than by land when the unusual shifting nature of the world could have taken your path away from you in an instant, but even then Ring Gates were a necessity of life that even the flying vessels which came in all shapes and sizes took advantage of. There was one distinct exception though, one naturally affiliated with Checkpoint.
The vessel was known as the Coral Cloud, which was no small wonder due to its coral color giving the myriad of great balloons housing no lesser number of research labs above the world like its drifting namesake. This vessel rarely made use of Ring Gates to travel as the number of Rings necessary for so large a vessel was impractical when those rings instead could be used to fuel the personal Ring Gate beacons of the Ring Gates used by Checkpoint sponsored adventurers.
One such personal sized Ring Gate opened within a room full of countless blocks with glowing geometric lines adorning them like circuitry that floated freely above the wire mesh floor that barely separated Mighty as he flew through it from the pipes and conduit that filled most of the vessel. His shell assured the flooring would have to be replaced though as he crashed into it with his shell absorbing the impact as he shielded Rosy in his arms. It worried him when she did not respond but he had to protect her from Eggman before he could worry about her current state and shouted out. “You have to close the gate! Hurry, absorb the Rings!”
The operator was used to adventurers coming in hot and threw a lever on the console they were manning. With a loud crackling of electricity, the room blacked out save for the light of the weird blocks shifting about and serving as the room’s ceiling. Soon, the golden motes of light left behind by an absorbed Ring drifted up like fireflies departing for the leaves of the forest. As the motes twinkled out the lights came back on and the lever groaned back into place with a loud thud signaling the success of if its efforts.
“So, what’s today’s story?” the operated sought out the tale that made him work the emergency function of the console before him. He did not know how it worked but it was rarely a show that did not accompany a dire story. Today’s story would have to wait though when he realized that Mighty was supporting Rosy’s head and had her cradled in his arms as he sat up and tried to get her under him. Wasting no time, he worked the radio that had been set up on the console.
“Sick bay! Get a stretcher to the to the Beacon Bay! Now!”
The urgency in the operator’s voice left Rosy feeling guilty but there was nothing she could do about it. She had no control of her body despite being wide awake and could do nothing to comfort Mighty who was apologizing as he held her tight. “I shouldn’t have gathered Rings for the Ring Gate. I had finally caught up with you after seeing you jump into that gorge but thought I could gather them fast enough. I’m so sorry Rosy!”
Mighty would have been glad to know that his voice was not lost on her, but he would have felt horrible knowing how bad she felt. Especially as her sleeping body seemed to find Mighty quite comfortable and worked to snuggle up against him. ‘I’m so glad my body is moving. It means I should be able to still move when it finally wakes up. But how long is that going to be. I can barely think… clearly.’
It was difficult to put her thoughts into words and she wanted to pout, but her body continued to keep sleeping peacefully. It astounded her too considering how warm she felt, and even the medics agreed as they placed a bag of ice on her forehead as they laid her out on the stretcher they arrived with. Her body disagreed with the sudden chill though and she snapped into a tight ball with her quills going rigid to protect her from it. ‘I’m so sorry,’ she desperately wanted to cry out in apology. ‘I can’t do anything though.’
Like Rosy, no one could really do anything about her while she was completely curled up, but they tried regardless poking and prodding her with brooms in an effort to at least get her out of the Beacon Bay. It was fortunate for the medics that she had curled into such a tight ball as it did make her easier to roll about. It was humiliating for Rosy though and she just wanted to cry. As she could not even see what was happening around her anymore from within her curled form, she turned her thoughts inward as well. Especially in light of Mighty still apologizing to her. “I really messed up Rosy. But I swear. I’ll figure something out. I’ll make it up to you somehow.”
‘You don’t need to apologize Mighty. I messed up too. I got so excited I wasn’t even paying attention.’ Rosy’s thoughts were less words and more a vague picture in her conscious mind of what she wanted to convey. But there was also a lot there she did not want to focus on, but there was little else she could do.
Messing up was something she knew she did the moment when Mighty said he had. She had seen more than enough seismic shifts that reshaped the face of the world on a regular basis to know what she had seen was wrong. The forest of giant mushrooms that was growing up out of the gulch was not normal. Sure, there were Rings appearing to mark the birth of a new land, but there was no sign of the tell-tale shimmer that it was a new land. It was like an existing land that had shoved itself through where there already was land. The cave where Rosy encountered Eggman was more proof of that as she recalled the pale green color compared to the rich soil hue of the earth the disrupted mine tunnels cut through. And then there was the Gaia Eye.
‘What was that anyway, and was it really asking me for help. Ooh~! I wish I could really think clearly right now…’
“Really, what are were you guys thinking?” a familiar voice suddenly pulled Rosy from her thoughts. ‘Tails!’
Though her mind was excited to hear the voice of her best friend and usual adventuring companion, her body continued sleeping away in a tight defensive ball. Her current position was also the focus of the far more aggravated fox boy with the two tails for which he was nicknamed. “Hedgehogs curl up when they feel threatened or endangered and you’ve been pushing her around with brooms. It’s no wonder she hasn’t uncurled. You’re going to have to make her feel safe and comfortable to coax her out of her defensive posture.”
Exasperation laced Tails’ voice and Rosy felt bad for him having to deal with the trouble she was causing. Being Rosy’s friend though Tails was used to dealing with her and the trouble she got into on a regular enough basis and he already had a solution for dealing with her balled up form. ‘Pillows?’ Rosy could not help but ponder when she felt soft objects being piled down around her until she was buried by them. And they were so soft and comfortable that being buried by them seemed to get her body to final relax and uncurl.
Finally uncurled Rosy was shortly after subjected to all manner of fretting over her but she would have to rely on her senses other than sight to figure out what was going on as her eyes had not opened again since she curled into a ball. It was frustrating and disorienting, but all the fussing over her prevented her from trying to sleep it off. Eggman’s chemical concoction coursing through her veins was not making it any easier as all of the stimulus drew her conscious mind’s attention to every little detail. She felt like it was all going to drive her mad and that she would be wide awake the entire time her body kept on sleeping, but she realized as she opened her eyes buried in a new nest of pillows that she must have fallen asleep at some point.
“…hmmm, I don’t remember being put to bed…,” Rosy mumbled as her brain tried to line up with being awake again. Her memories in general since inhaling Eggman’s concoction had grown fairly fuzzy and seemed little more than fanciful daydreaming. “If I’m going to day daydream it should be about Sonic…”
“Go back to sleep Rosy…,” Tails voice rose out of the pillows she was rather pleasantly buried in and Rosy pouted as she turned her head to look in the direction they came from. Sure enough, flopped on his belly on the edge of the nest was Tails, his white snout poking out from his orange furred face and pointed right at her. He seemed more than half asleep himself and Rosy pouted playfully at him before reaching out and scratching the top of the fox’s nose. “I slept all day already– oh!”
“Wah~!”
Thrown from the explosion of pillows into the air Tails rolled onto his back and bumped his head against the bed frame in the center of the small sleeping chamber. “Ow~,” he winced and clutched the back of his head with both hands. Wide awake now, Tails wanted an answer to his unpleasant waking “What was that for?”
Looking up, Tails saw Rosy looking around pensively as she tried to figure out where she was, and he forgot his concerns in an instant.
“Rosy!”
“Ah! Tails!” It was awkward for Rosy being the one tackled in a huge embrace and she lost her balance and fell back into the disrupted nest of pillows. Clung to tightly by Tails she could not do anything about being knocked down and simply giggled. “Yep, it’s me, teehee. Sorry about scaring you.”
Looking up from where he had buried his face into her Tails was greeted by Rosy sticking her tongue out playfully at him as she struggled to bring her head up to look at him. He frowned at her playfulness and soon turned his grip on her to his advantage and started tickling her with his tails. “Kya~! No! Don’t, please!”
“It’s what you get for being so playful after everything you put me through, I heard everything from Mighty and can still hardly believe it.”
“Ha ha ha… we can talk about it… ha ha ha… but please stop~!” Rosy struggled to talk and breath as she squirmed helplessly pinned by Tails. He did not seem willing to relent but a yellow fox girl propping herself up on her arms out of the disrupted nest of pillows and rubbing her sleepy eyes distracted him. “Oh, Zooey! Rosy’s awake!”
“She is!” snapped to full consciousness instantly by Tails’ words Zooey turned her attention to Tails and Rosy and a confused look crossed her face. His face flushing, Tails let go of Rosy and snapped to his feet. She did not follow him as she gasped for air attempting to recover from his tickling. She still managed to greet Zooey breathlessly, however, “Hi Zooey, I’m back…”
“Thank goodness,” Zooey sighed as she held a hand to her chest. Getting up she took a hold of Rosy’s hand and helped the hedgehog to her feet. “Everyone was so worried and it’s only getting worse.”
“Worse?” Rosy tilted her head confused but a voice behind her made her turn her ears back before turning fully to see Mighty stretching off sleep himself in a chair against the wall. “It’s probably best we go talk to the Elder. I hope he’s awake. To be honest I don’t really know what time it is.”

“Ah, I’m so glad to see you awake,” the elder offered Rosy a smile as she walked into his office flanked by Tails, Mighty, and Zooey.
“We all are Elder, but, there’s obviously bad news to share as well,” Mighty hung his head looking downcast as he chased away the opportunity for pleasantries.
Rosy did not like it one bit and turned to Mighty, excitedly bouncing up and down as she spoke.
“That’s because Eggman is up to no good again! If I hadn’t broke my communicator during that big shift, I could have called everyone and we could have stopped him then and there.”
“Please hold my dear,” The elder interrupted, holding a hand up from his cane and forcing the other to support all of his weight and hunched back unsteadily. Rosy dropped her arms to her side and looked at him curiously allowing him to return his other hand to his cane. “Eggman is a nefarious individual and while we adventurers of Checkpoint have foiled him before thanks mostly in part to Sonic, we are adventurers and not really trained to combat a threat like Eggman. Foiling Eggman is a task best left to the military, or at least that is what headquarters has decided on this matter.”
“Huh?” Rosy rose her voice in question failing to realize that the others grew deathly silent and visibly uncomfortable at the mention of the military. “That doesn’t make sense. No one except for me even knows what Eggman was doing down there unless you actually heard Mighty.” Turning her gaze back to Mighty, Rosy finally picked up on the air in the room. “Mighty… Tails, Zooey? Um, what’s going on?”
Reaching up with a finger Rosy scratched at her cheek with a nervous laugh but no one seemed willing to answer. No one even seemed willing to make eye contact with her and her tail and ears drooped at the heavy atmosphere.
She did not like it one bit and wanted to cheer everyone up, but she had to know what was wrong and no one was talking. Pouting in defiance at the dreadful air she perked her ears and tail up and turned back to elder with her hands held up in tight balls.
“What did Eggman do? I’ll never forgive him if he hurt the people of that town or was responsible for that shift. I didn’t think about it then but that wasn’t a normal shift. It was like one zone trying to rise up through another after it moved. I hope everyone is alright as that isn’t like any shift cities are built to handle.”
“Please calm down my dear. There is little reason for you to fret over the town. As unprecedented as such a shift was the rescue teams were able to assure that no one was left in a bad spot. And though no member of this vessel is partaking, Checkpoint has deployed researchers to join those from other companies and governments to investigate this new type of shift.”
“It won’t do any good without the Gaia Eye,” Rosy leaned forward emphatically while pressing her elbows against her body. The confusion on the elder’s face deepened Rosy’s pout and she leaned forward even further as she explained.
“That’s what Eggman was after there! He says it’s an artifact comparable to the Chaos Emeralds and that it’ll let him control the world. I’m sure that’s what caused the shift and we need to get our hands on one to understand!”
“Um, Rosy, what’s a Gaia Eye?” The meekness in Tails’ voice calmed Rosy down and she straitened back out and lowered her arms back to her side before facing Tails and his following statement. “I’ve never heard of one.”
“Neither have I, “Mighty chimed in, though he continued to not look at Rosy directly. He was too busy realizing that he might have heard about it if he had not run off to gather Rings for a Ring Gate. “I really shouldn’t have left you there even for a moment Rosy. That was irresponsible, especially since I was only there in response to hearing that Checkpoint had lost your communicator’s signal. I was barely able to catch up at all with the way you were moving when I saw you jump into that gorge. And leaving you with Eggman…”
“I’m fine Mighty,” Rosy spread her arms out wide before spinning around to show the whole room the truth of her words. “It’s my fault anyway for getting his attention. If I could have just stayed quiet, I could have snatched the Gaia Eye out from under his nose without a problem. Ooh~, Fang would be so disappointed in me messing up like that.”
The mention of the rather infamous Fang the Sniper drew disappointed looks from Zooey and the Elder who were familiar of Rosy’s time in his company, but Tails interrupted before they could say anything as he was feeling ignored. “Rosy, I think you’re forgetting something.”
“Ack!” Rosy exclaimed and stuck her tongue out as she scratched the back of her head. “I’m so sorry Tails.
“Um,” Rosy paused to think while waving her hands at Tails in an attempt to get him to stop looking so displeased with her. “Well, I don’t really know what the Gaia Eye is either.”
“Really?” Tails exclaimed looking at Rosy incredulously.
“Well I had a dream about seven of them and Metal Sonic and then when everything was going on I kind of went looking for it. I found it too!” Rosy’s excitement was rising again with the wagging of her tail serving as a barometer of how excited she was. “Unfortunately, that meanie Eggman was looking for it too and he had so many robots with him. If I was as good as Sonic with his abilities, I wouldn’t have messed up so badly, I’m sure of it. I could have rescued all of the animals that he had trapped in those awful robots of his too.”
“Eggman’s using animals in his machines again! You didn’t mention that Mighty” Tails could not believe his ears and turned his attention sharply to Mighty who looked just as surprised as Tails. Tails’ prior meekness seemed to have found its way to the armadillo though as he again grew more somber.
“I didn’t hear that much,” Mighty admitted as he hung his head” When I saw Rosy pinned in by Eggman I knew I had to get enough Rings to make a Ring Gate to get us both out safely. When I got back Eggman was talking about the effect of his work on her. I was terrified I had let Rosy come under some serious harm and now with what the military has said…”
“The military again,” Rosy harrumphed displeased. She had yet to learn why they were being brought up when Eggman was obviously causing lots of trouble and needed to be stopped which had proven to regularly be a task beyond the military. ‘Sonic wouldn’t wait for the military if he knew what was going on.’
“Rosy, maybe you should sit down, and I’ll explain for the elder,” Rosy was pulled from her thoughts as Zooey placed her hands comfortingly and with guiding intent on her shoulders.
“Oh my. Thank you so much Zooey. In fact, I think I’ll take a seat myself,” the elder seemed to disassociate himself from the ongoing commotion as he gladly left it to Zooey and took a seat much to the relief of his arms. He did not fully disengage though and watched almost apologetically stroking his long thin beard as Zooey sat Rosy in an available chair and stood in a way to not let Rosy back up.
“Now, no one talked to me about this either so I’m not happy at all, but headquarters and the military are not being very cooperative,” Zooey began while bracing herself against the arms of the chair Rosy was seated in. She was allowing Rosy no room to act and leaned over her causing Rosy to sink back into the chair as she looked up. She flinched as she felt her quills pierce the fabric of the chair revealing how tense she was at Zooey’s intensity, but asides from taking one hair to brush back the lock of hair beside her face the fox gave her no relief as she continued.
“Everything you just told us Rosy we had no idea about.”
“Huh?” Rosy nearly squeaked as she instinctually pulled her legs in as the fox above her triggered her instinctual need to curl into a ball with the harsh look she gave her. “But Mighty said he missed that so why is that such a surprise. And why are you being so scary Zooey.”
“Because Eggman declared to the world that you’re the key to his next plan for world domination and headquarters has agreed to hand you over to the military at their request to keep you out of Eggman’s hands!”
“What!” Rosy wanted to spring up but Zooey’s position made sure she stayed pinned in the chair and she could only look around for an answer. Tails looked helpless and Mighty was obviously blaming himself silently, but the elder seemed to have maintained his calm and proved the source of information that Rosy needed.
“It is as Zooey says my dear, but it is not a situation we of Checkpoint’s research division agree with. But,” the use of the qualifier shook the elder’s nerve as he used it and he had to force himself to speak as he continued,” we are in no position to refute headquarters. At this time the Coral Cloud is as physically far away from any land masses as is possible and is constantly adjusting its course to account for any ongoing shifts. You are effectively trapped here until the military’s airships arrive to retrieve you. And headquarters has also already sent numerous Ring hunters like yourself to the Coral Cloud to gather up any Rings that may appear and prevent you from making a Ring Gate to escape.”
“No way! I don’t understand at all!”
“Rosy…,” Tails weakly spoke up getting her attention. Rubbing his upper arm Tails forced himself to look at Rosy and her questioning eyes. “When Eggman made his announcement he was pretty adamant about declaring that he had made a breakthrough in his research and that you would be the key to completing it and how he would enjoy picking apart anyone who would try to stop him. Normally I’d agree that Eggman making such a claim sounds pretty wild, but the military knows about the compound you were under the effects of and hearing Mighty explain it…”
“So what, I’m going to be locked up and let Eggman run around hunting for the Gaia Eyes as he pleases?” The question spilt quickly out of Rosy’s lips but the looks everyone gave her told her there was not anything they could do about it. Naturally she puffed her cheeks up defiantly as she wasn’t going to stand for that. “Don’t you see Eggman’s just using me as a distraction? The Gaia Eyes–”
“Rosy,” the matter-of-fact tone from Zooey quieted Rosy and she looked up at Zooey wearily. The fox’s features had softened to one of concern though which only made Rosy grow more timid under the fox. “Even if you are just a distraction to Eggman’s bigger plan, the Gaia thing you’re talking about hasn’t been mentioned by anyone but you. But the effects of Eggman’s terrible concotion on you was seen by everyone here.”
“She’s right Rosy,” Tails supported Zooey from afar as he rubbed his foot into the ground and pressed his index fingers together. “Sonic and I knew about that formula since we first traveled together on West Side Island. In fact, Eggman had a whole chemical plant just for producing the stuff, but we didn’t think about it because we could swim through the stuff and weren’t affected. But Rosy, you’re the first sapient anything to be affected by it. With Eggman’s genius if he got his hands on you he could figure out how to make it work on everyone.”
“But Tails, I’m not Eggman’s only goal,” Rosy attempted to make him understand. But the words she chose next doomed her attempts. “He wants to use the Gaia Eyes, and I just know they were asking me for help!”
It did not even take a moment. The atmosphere of disbelief that filled the room was crushing and Rosy found herself just waiting to hear someone call her fortunetelling silly. Not wanting to hear that she finally just curled up into a ball and stiffened her quills as much as possible, regardless of the damage she would cause to the chair. Curling up did not keep her head out of her memories however and she couldn’t help but think about how Fang took her fortunetelling seriously. To him it was a gift and not just a silly hobby and that had at last opened up the world to her. She knew there was more to the world than just the Rings and the Time Stones, Chaos Emeralds, and Chaos Rings all proved it, yet still no one believed her.
Too frustrated to stay where she was waiting, Rosy attempted to rev up a Spin Dash and managed to scare Zooey just enough to back off and give her room to escape. Not wasting it she shot off in her sloppy and clumsy attempt like a rocket back out of the Elder’s room knocking the chair over in the process. The elder could not help himself but sigh as he looked at the chair.” I suppose it was only natural she would not take too well to the situation.”
“Do you think…,” Mighty started as he was conflicted between chasing after Rosy and picking up the chair.
“If you chase after her thinking she needs comforted you’re not going to do her any good Mighty,” Tails resolved both of Mighty’s dilemmas with his words and as he personally picked up the chair and helped Zooey back to her feet. “I know she’s upset, but she doesn’t dwell on stuff like that. Next time you see her I can guarantee you she’ll be wearing an honest smile.”
“Then what is she doing?” genuinely wanting to know, Mighty attempted to coax an answer out of Tails who simply smiled. “Just whatever she can. I already can guess where she’s going, but since this is her first time on the Coral Cloud, I’ll have to occupy myself while I wait for her.”
While the others were off balance from Rosy’s display, Tails wore a strangely relieved smile. Noticing everyone else he laughed slightly and offered an explanation. “Trust me, she’s fine. Actually, she’s doing better than I thought she would be after her experience. So, don’t worry about her, okay. Besides, I’m sure I can calm her down a little.”
“Wait up Tails!” Zooey called after Tails as he left and had to chase after him leaving Mighty alone with the elder.
“Would it be too much if I asked?” the elder inquired trying to be respectful of the armadillo’s position. Having a guess at how things were starting to go Mighty smiled, even if there was a sardonic air about him.
“I did promise I’d look after them, and considering our world… well it helps to have an experienced adventurer watching their backs who is a bit more responsible than his own best friend.” Mighty’s playful jab at Sonic was as much a sore spot he had with Sonic sharing his abilities with Tails and Rosy without watching over them as much as it was him pondering what Sonic was up to after Eggman’s announcement. He could not linger on Sonic though as Rosy was the current matter of importance.
Zooey felt the same way as Mighty and when she caught up with Tails, who had fortunately heard her in time for it not to be too long of a trip, took his hand in hers and leaned her forehead against his for support.
“Z-Zooey!” he squeaked in surprise as she took a moment to catch her breath. There was a growing bond between them and most everyone in Checkpoint knew about it. Their bond was not the joke though, but rather the bad luck the two of them had as almost every time they might have had a quiet moment together an emergency was sure to interrupt it. Tails did not want to think about that right now all things considered but it was where Zooey’s mind was.
“Promise me you’ll get the both of you back safely,” Zooey demanded of Tails as she finally straightened up and looked him in the eyes. Before Tails could offer a logical argument, she held up a finger and pressed it to his lips to hush him. “And I know she shouldn’t be able to go anywhere. She should be trapped here. But you know she got onto Little Planet before she met Sonic and that should have been far more impossible than getting off the Coral Cloud safely. And maybe her love of fortunetelling is starting to rub off on me because I can’t help but feel like you two are about to go off on a big adventure and that I won’t be able to help you this time. I’m supposed to be your agent and mediating for you and parties with interest in your activities, but this time I feel so useless and like I can’t do anything. I won’t even be able to work on the X-Tornado or any other aircraft until Rosy is in the military’s hands. But I know you don’t want that either, and if she feels like someone needs her help…”
Zooey didn’t seem to have the strength left to express her concerns and closed her eyes with a sigh, resting her forehead against Tails’ own again. His mouth hanging open a moment as he was unsure what to do, Tails took a note from Rosy’s book and tried to cheer her up.
“It’s fine Zooey,” he began as he gently took her hand from his lips with his free hand, “we have our Ring Bond with Sonic so it’s like he’s always there for us. No matter what happens, I’m sure we’ll all be together again just fine.”
“Do you mean it?” Zooey asked, coyly opening her eyes to gaze at him.
“I-it’s a promise!” Tails answered too excitedly, breaking the tenderness of the moment and having to escape for his own sense of control.
Zooey was not upset by Tails’ panic though as it was better if they at least controlled when they parted, and he did promise her. ‘Make sure you keep it please, Tails.’

“Ooh~! I should be able to find things faster with Sonic’s speed, but all I’m doing is getting lost fast!” With a heavy sigh Rosy blew her bangs up as she skidded to a stop surprising several researchers and adventurers patrolling for Rings. She was not worried about them and seeing her they went about their business no longer surprised. “Maybe here, it looks like it was big enough from outside and not just another balloon. Why don’t they label these rooms with more than numbers?”
Puffing up her cheeks Rosy pushed open the double doors and was promptly surprised by a familiar voice. “About time you got here Rosy. I was starting to think I’d have to find you before the military’s ships get here.”
“Tails!” Rosy shouted in surprise and looked across the library she had walked into. He was surrounded by books and had a sheaf of papers beside him which he had been systematically scrawling out notes on. Zipping across the library Rosy glanced at the notes for only a moment before turning to Tails. “Have you found anything?”
“Not really anything substantial,” Tails confided in her while trying to hide a knowing and grateful smile that he really did know her so well and that she knew it. “Though, if what I’m reading here is right, the term ‘Gaia’ is affiliated with a long-gone ancient civilization. They may even be older then when echidnas were still around.”
“Wow~!” Rosy’s mouth formed an ‘o’ shape as she took in that information. “So even Knuckles wouldn’t know, would he?”
“Not likely,” Tails agreed as he continued his research. “But ever since Sonic saved the world from the Black Ring we haven’t seen him and Angel Island isn’t believed to be stationary anymore. I don’t know what really happened, but the world has definitely not been the same.”
“Well not all of it,” Rosy countered tracing a finger along Tails’ notes and trying to glean anything from them. “A lot of the world didn’t change. I was so surprised because I thought Sonic had to use the Rings and Chaos Emeralds to restore everything, but then it turned out there were whole cities and known landmasses that just weren’t part of the world when Eggman nearly wiped everything out. It’s so confusing I don’t know what to think. How can there be no landmasses left in the world yet there were plenty that weren’t affected and were perfectly fine?”
“Well, if my quick skimming is correct, Gaia theorist would attribute that to the Gaia Theory. The existence of sub dimensions like how Sonic forms his Ring Bond with the Chaos Emeralds or how South Island drifted on the sea independently from the normal seismic shifts supports it too. A lot of Ring researchers normally discard it out of hand, but since the Black Ring incident it’s been quickly gaining ground again in the scientific community.”
“And you learned all that while I was running around just trying to find the library? That’s amazing Tails!” Rosy couldn’t help but gush at Tails but he laughed and scratched the back of head finally looking away from the books he had surrounded himself with.
“Actually, it’s something I’ve been getting involved with since learning that our world is more complicated than I thought. I actually didn’t make the connection at first but while I was on my way over thinking about what you called the object Eggman is after it reminded me of a professor I know and his field of research.”
“Really~?” the question playfully fell from Rosy’s lips as she started studying the spines of the books. Tracing her finger along them she carefully made note of the most prolific name as she teased Tails. “If you know a professor you should have just contacted them and asked. It would have saved you a lot of time. I know you prefer machines anyway to ancient cultures. Well, unless they have ancient machines!”
“I would have missed you if I had,” Tails frowned at Rosy’s playfulness and simply received a giggle for his trouble. Not wanting to fight he returned his attention to the books he was working through. “Besides that, I’d need the captain’s permission to make any outgoing radio calls. Considering you’re currently supposed to have a top-secret location it’d be risky to make a call asking about something Eggman is looking into. It could give you away and get everyone here attacked by Eggman.”
A nervous laugh escaped Rosy as she was faced with the obvious truth. “That would be bad huh. Ooh~! Why does Eggman have to be after me too?”
“You haven’t already forgotten have you?” Tails joked as he tried to lighten the mood. Rosy simply puffed up her cheeks at him unappreciative of his efforts and he couldn’t help but laugh. “Come on Rosy, it was just a joke.”
“A mean one too.
“Anyway, forget about all of that, what about this professor you know?” Deftly shifting the conversation, Rosy kept her finger on the name of one particular professor she had seen on more books than any other.
“He’s a really great guy,” Tails smiled as he answered. “A little weird at times but he knows an awful lot about anything and everything related to the Gaia Theory. I was hoping I might find mention of the Gaia Eyes in the books we have here from him, but most everything here is related to major archeological finds and nothing theoretical.”
“But you’ve taken so many notes already,” Rosy mused as she dropped her finger from the name Prof. Dillon Pickle and looked at Tails’ notes.
“Oh, that’s just stuff for future research to see if I can find any relation between time periods and multi-dimensional awareness.”
“Well I’m here now so why don’t we risk talking to Professor Pickle and get a move on stopping Eggman’s plans.”
“Eh, wait! What! How did you–?” Tails fumbled for a response when Rosy so casually called out the name of the professor he knew. His reaction was a dead giveaway that she was right, and she cutely smiled triumphantly.
“Don’t worry about that Tails, Eggman being stopped is more important. Let’s go,” Rosy insisted as she took hold of Tails’ arm and tried to pull him from his seat and notes.
It was a vain effort as even successfully pulling Tails from his seat did not underscore her ignorance of the Coral Cloud’s layout. Tails was not fond of the idea of using the ship’s radio either for a personal conversation and they soon found themselves in Tails’ private quarters, which turned out to be the small cell of a room where Rosy woke up.
“Aw, how sweet, keeping me safe with you,” Rosy swayed back and forth happily as the realization dawned on her. “You really are the best Tails!”
“Only the best for the best,” Tails countered as he fished around under his bed.
Nothing brought a smile to Rosy’s face like Tails’ friendship and she was eternally grateful to have met him. Watching him fuss about under his bed though with his tails swishing about from the effort piqued her curiosity. Poking a finger into her cheek she leaned over sideways to try and get a better look and ended up flipping sideways out of the way as Tails suddenly popped out from under his bed and rolled backwards into the wall. “Ah! Tails, are you okay!”
“I’m fine… I think,” Tails groaned and rubbed the back of his head. Rosy was already on top of him though and ready to help him to his feet even as she picked up the odd briefcase like object that joined him. “I really need to cushion everything in here if I keep hitting my head.”
“Well you have plenty of pillows in here right now,” Rosy laughed as she looked away from Tails to the other side of the bed where the nest of pillows still lay heavily disturbed.
“I do for now at least,” Tails agreed as he accepted Rosy’s help to his feet. As she was holding the odd case, he had to do most of the work getting up, but Amy’s distraction resulted in her not being a good anchor and he accidently pulled her down on top of him. “Wah– KYA~!”
“Rosy!”
The tumbled heap they fell in was enough to surprise anyone, but Rosy’s sudden scream was one of obvious pain and Tails scrambled out from under her in a hurry. Left on her knees Rosy tightly grasped her shoulder and worried Tails all the more as there was no way the case should have hit her shoulder. Kneeling next to her he reached out for her and she twisted away from him.
“Rosy? What’s the matter?” Tails attempt to inquire but Rosy couldn’t answer as she was biting her lip while trying her best to hold back tears of pain. His brow furrowing in concern Tails dove across Rosy’s lap and snagged her injured arm by the wrist making her yelp in response. “I’m sorry, but if you’re going to act like this.
“What in the…?” Through a complicated mixture of tackling and grappling Rosy, Tails stared astonished at how red the skin of her shoulder was as he managed to push up her shoulder puff into a squished mess. “What is this from,” Tails pressed for further answers gingerly touching Rosy’s shoulder and making her wince and being surprised himself, “and why is it so cold?”
“Ghh~ Tails, that hurts, please let me go,” Rosy pleaded as Tails turned out to have quite the advantage not only due to his two tails but also his work as a tinkering engineer in odd places. Unfortunately for her he had no intention of letting her go yet.
“I did apologize in advance for having to be rough with you, it’s the only way to deal with you when you get like this. You’re great at taking care of others, but when it comes to yourself you couldn’t be more neglectful.”
Tails’ callout cut deep and Rosy simply did her best to look away unable to escape Tails hold. As she was not being helpful Tails could not keep himself from sighing. Studying the shoulder puff of her leotard it did not appear to be damaged or even cold like her inflamed shoulder. Which meant the source of the injury… “No, wait Tails.”
Rosy’s pleading fell on deaf ears as Tails reached up into her shoulder puff and found her deck of tarot cards. Extracting the case that held the deck he looked it over for a moment, but it was warm as far as he could tell except for where it would have been pressed against Rosy’s shoulder. Curious, and ignoring Rosy’s pleading and attempts to break his impressive hold on her he popped off the lid with his thumb and revealed the cards within. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until Rosy’s squirming jerked Tails enough to knock the cards free and several fell onto Rosy’s bare arm and legs.
“KYA~! AH~ OW~! ACK! I’m sorry!” Rosy was practically crying and in tears as the cards touched her and streams of vapor rose up from the temperature difference that as far as Tails could tell didn’t exist. Rosy scrambled backward and very nearly curled up into a ball as Tails let her go to study her cards and gave her a quizzical look.
“Rosy, what exactly is going on?” He held up one of her cards just fine and unaffected by the cold Rosy experienced, but the redness on her showed an obvious affect of touching them on her. Rosy wasn’t answering however and Tails sighed as he pressed her again. “Rosy.”
“But you always call it unscientific,” Rosy lead with a counterpoint to answering as she puffed up her cheeks in a desperate bid to fight back the pain and cold.
“Rosy,” Tails began with another sigh, “I just saw your cards freeze burn you and you’re worried about me calling it unscientific. If anything, let’s get you to sick bay and those burns treated before we worry about it being scientific or not.”

A short while later found Rosy and Tails in a room full of hospital beds with only a white curtain keeping them separate from each other. Rosy sat on the bed obviously upset under the heap of blankets she was wrapped in. It was weird to Tails to see her good cheer gone and not replaced with a moment of bratiness. It was also unsettling but considering he had been experimenting on her but a few minutes before hand as the medics had her soaking in a warm bath to treat her burns it was little surprise.
“I know saying sorry again won’t help, but I’m getting even more worried about you,” Tails began as he drew the curtain around the bed shut to provide them total privacy. Taking a seat on the bed beside Rosy he lifted a card from the case and felt Rosy’s eyes on him as her cheeks puffed up. “Besides, I’ve had enough time to go over the data already and it’s unquestionably a local reaction exclusive to you and your cards. I can’t say exactly what’s happening, but it’s a lot like the phenomenon with Rings where not everyone can see and interact with them. Except in this case it’s only affecting you.”
“So? Rosy huffed, her temper obviously sizzling under the surface despite her best efforts to not be mad at Tails. She knew he was just trying to help but her cards had not even been so cold when she first experienced their temperature change.
‘I’m sure the Gaia Eyes are angry at me for wasting my time here.’ Rosy kept her thoughts to herself but it was obvious Tails wasn’t going to let her have her way as he returned the card to the case and placed it down on the bed between them.
“What I’m trying to say Rosy is that while I can’t prove anything, there is definitely a phenomenon occurring,” Tails continued to try and get Rosy to open up. It wasn’t going to be easy either as the idea that was forming in his head since comparing the phenomenon to Ring phenomena meant he was going to have to ask her to let him experiment on her again and was afraid she wasn’t going to see him as better than Eggman. ‘Actually, she may see me as worse since Eggman’s compound didn’t hurt her any.’ Mentally shaking his head Tails attempted to continue again. “That there is a phenomenon and that I could get readings on it means that maybe something is trying to communicate with you.”
“Not maybe Tails; is,” Rosy balked at Tails’ use of the word maybe. “Something is and it’s asking me for help. I can’t sit here and ignore it. The fact that it’s using my cards to get my attention again is proof that it knows it’s in danger. But I don’t know what to do stuck here before being handed over to the military to be locked up. What if they never let me out again Tails? I don’t want that!”
“I don’t want that either,” Tails found himself uncomfortably trying to play the comforter for a change. Rosy looked at him pleadingly for an answer but nothing was coming to mind immediately until his eyes widened with realization. “Wait! Go back, go back!”
“Go back? Rosy tilted her head, a hint of hope appearing in her eyes at Tail’ excitement.
“What you just said about it getting your attention using your cards,” Tails continued insisted with almost no restraint. “What exactly did you say?”
“I said that it’s using my cards again–”
“That’s it!” Tails jumped up and turned to look at Rosy head on. She was excited that Tails was excited and if he was not so focused on his train of thought he might have heard her tail thumping on the bed as she started to believe he had the answer she needed, but alas. “When was the first time? Tell me exactly what happened and what you did.”
“Well…” Rosy began her account of the events that led her to the Gaia Eye and her confrontation with Eggman. When she finished Tails was holding his chin in thought and he seemed to be contemplating any number of possibilities. Rosy was feeling anxious though and pressed him to say something. “What do you think?”
- ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ADVENTURER AMY ROSE, PLEASE REPORT TO THE MAIN DECK! REPEAT, ADVENTURER AMY ROSE PLEASE REPORT TO THE MAIN DECK! G.U.N. AIRSHIPS ARE WITHIN FIVE MINUTES RANGE AND ARE PREPARED TO RECEIVE YOU! ADVENTURER AMY ROSE, PLEASE REPORT TO THE MAIN DECK! –
“Not now!” Tails shouted as the announcement echoed throughout the Coral Cloud. The dread in Rosy’s eyes sank his heart and he made up his mind to act. Pulling her leotard from where it hung on the wall above the head of the bed, he thrust it at her, “Here, get dressed!” before zipping out of the surrounded space shouting behind him,” I’ll be right back!”
To a chorus of surprised shouts and other noises Rosy dressed herself as fast as she could and was barely ready for when Tails suddenly burst back in, his speed causing the currents to rush up to the ceiling. The dramatic wind that accompanied the fox revealed the chaos and confusion he caused in the sick bay and as Tails extended a hand towards Rosy she saw Mighty in the doorway. “Tails…”
“Just follow my lead,” Tails insisted as his twin tails started spinning together like his own personal propeller. Keeping his feet rooted on the ground as he waited for Rosy to tentatively take his hand caused a windstorm in the sick bay which proved advantageous as Mighty could not approach through it. When Rosy finally did take his hand though she could barely get her own feet under her to use the speed that her Ring Bond with Sonic granted her. She did not have to though as Tails was out the open port hole opposite the main entrance of the sick bay with her in tow in an instant.
“What are they thinking?” Mighty asked as he raced across the chaos engulfed sick bay to watch Tails soaring through the air with Rosy hanging on for dear life. Watching their course around the ship Mighty’s eyes widened in realization. “Don’t tell me he plans to use the Beacon Bay!”
Not waiting a second to find out, Mighty raced off hoping to beat Tails to the Beacon Bay to talk him out of this madness. Thrown off balance by Tails’ sudden fierceness of action Rosy shouted above the rushing winds to get an answer herself to what he was thinking.
“Tails, what are you doing? Oh no!” Rosy’s question gave way to concern as she saw the grim airships approaching the Coral Cloud were almost like a small fleet in number, her blue eyes seeing the late afternoon light reflecting off of the lenses of binoculars and spyglasses. “Tails, I think they see us!”
“What a day for great flying weather,” Tails complained as he risked a look and spotted silver orbs equipped with machine guns fly out from the ships on gossamer bee like wings.
“I didn’t know the military had robots! Rosy shouted before screaming as machine gun fire opened on them from the military airships. “Why are the shooting at us!”
“I guess they figure it’d be better if you were dead than risk you getting into Eggman’s hands,” Tails grunted out his words through gritted teeth.
Much as he could use his tails to keep up with Sonic he was an open target out in the clear sky and had to take cover against the Coral Cloud. The sparks of ricocheting bullets soon lit up the massive research dreadnaught and klaxons blared to life as the ship came under fire.
“Tails!” Rosy cried out but Tails wasn’t going to let her care for others endanger her and practically yelled at her. “Don’t you dare let yourself give up Rosy! I have an idea, but you need to trust me!”
Tails determination was a rare thing for Rosy to see and it inspired her to give her all which she signaled with a fierce nod of her head and puffing up her cheeks determinedly. Knowing he had her dedication to him getting her out of there he took the lead with her falling in beside him.
“First we need to get to the other side of the Coral Cloud!” Tails attempted to explain as a number of the military machines flew out in front of him and Rosy and opened fire. Deftly dodging the warning shots Tails leapt up and with a quick swipe of his tails split one in half before stiffing his fur like hedgehog quills, curling into ball, and blasting through the other others. He had to as well since Rosy was too clumsy with her speed to transition into attacking so smoothly and nearly had run straight into the gun fire.
“Thank you Tails,” Rosy shouted out her gratitude as he caught back up with her. “I keep practicing and I’m getting better, but...”
“Don’t worry about it Rosy,” Tails brushed aside her coming complaint about her own ability. “It’s not your fault. Combat practice isn’t something you really get the chance to do normally. Now come on, we have to get out of the line of sight of their spotters. The military’s machines are radio controlled so they need a line of sight on us to use them.”
“So, they are robots?”
“Nothing near as advanced as Eggman’s though. They’re more like toys in comparison,” Tails finished his explanation as he and Rosy slid down the backside of one of the Coral Clouds main balloons.
“At least Eggman’s look like toys,” Rosy pouted as Tails caught her so she wouldn’t fall off of the airship. “So where are we going anyway?”
“The Ring Gate Beacon Bay.”
“Huh? But Tails, we don’t have any Rings, and even if we did–”
“Didn’t I ask you to trust me?” Tails interrupted as he placed Rosy down on an exterior catwalk.
“Yeah,” Rosy nodded keeping her question to herself and putting her faith in Tails.
“Right then come on, we need to hurry because the military is going to be crawling all over the place before long and those drones of theirs will be a danger to everyone!”
Dashing off again propelled by his tails, Tails led Rosy as quickly as he could through the confusing structure of the airship. With Sonic’s speed at their disposal though it did not take them long to reach the Beacon Bay. They weren’t the first to arrive though and under the ceiling of shifting cubes Mighty stood waiting for them with a disappointed look on his face.
“Tails, Rosy. I understand you’re afraid of what the military may do, but endangering everyone like this,” Mighty clenched a fist as he tried to get through to the young adventurers the consequences of their actions.
“Mighty…” Rosy held a hand to her heart as she looked at Sonic’s best friend and felt the guilt building up inside her again. Tails was not going to stand for it though and positioned himself between Rosy and Mighty.
“It’s not that simple Mighty,” Tails challenge quivered as he had to face the armadillo. He was peaceful by nature, but his strength was terrifying. Tails did not want to have to fight him. If he could just talk him down, which would be easier if he could get Rosy to worry about herself while other people were in danger. “I know it sounded crazy when Rosy said the Gaia Eyes asked her for help, but there really is a phenomenon that I’ve observed taking place around her. I don’t know the specifics, but if someone is in trouble because of Eggman…”
“But Tails–”
“No Mighty!” Rosy suddenly interrupted and clutched at her tarot cards hidden away in her shoulder puff and feeling the chill against her hand. “It’s not just me and everyone here. If Eggman gets his hands on the Gaia Eyes I just know it won’t be good!”
“But if he gets his hands on you Rosy!”
“Then help us Mighty so he can’t!” Rosy pleaded, a vulnerability in her voice she did not like having. She hated thinking that even with Sonic’s speed that she was little more than a damsel, but the current circumstances were beyond her control. But even then. Even then she knew she was the only one who could find the Gaia Eyes besides Eggman and that meant she had to risk herself and step up. She had to be a hero, even if she had to admit that she could not do it alone. “I know I’m being selfish, and I know everyone is going to be angry with me, but I know I’m the only one who can help the Gaia Eyes right now and they’re asking me for help! I can’t and won’t ignore them Mighty, not even by force. So if you’re really worried about me, and you believe that Eggman capturing me is a possibility that can endanger the world, then help me save the Gaia Eyes so you know I’ll be safe from Eggman!”
Like Tails, Mighty was awed as Rosy’s determination came out and brushed away all her doubts and fears. Her eyes shone with it and she stood fast and unyielding. She was bristling with energy and it was easy to believe that she would let nothing stop her. But Mighty had seen her so helpless under the influence of Eggman’s concoction and knew her energy and determination alone would not be enough. But he was also sure that nothing else would stop her. Save the piloted machine gun armed piece of armor that came up behind her and Tails and leveled an arm mounted machine gun at them.
In a flash Mighty took Tails and Rosy’s backs, his shell protecting them from the gunfire from the military contraption. “Guh! I can’t believe they would open fire without even a warning. What was wrong with a peaceful resolution?”
Mighty’s answer came in the form of a series of the spherical drones flying into the Beacon Bay and opening fire on the three of them. Like before Tails was quick to act to take them down, but another wave could be heard fast approaching and attacking them exposed him to the steam powered armor.
“I really would like a peaceful solution Tails!” Mighty yelled out as more gunfire bounced off his shell and the armor slowly entered the Beacon Bay with lumbering steps.
“Right! It’s kind of a long shot though.” Tails shouted out his understanding and turned his attention to Rosy. “But Rosy, I don’t know anything about how you use your tarot cards, but if something is trying to communicate with you and can affect the world like you think, then you have to ask it to help you now! You can’t help it pinned down like this, and I think the Beacon Bay is the best place for it to exert its power! Just leave these guys to me and Mighty and ask it!”
“You’re really going to ask me to get violent aren’t you Tails? You know how I feel about violence,” Mighty complained but he had already given in to the possibility. Right now, protecting Rosy like he had promised himself when he first met the Sonic influenced adventures in an Eggman trap before he forced them to join Checkpoint was his priority. Smiling, he nodded to her. “You’ll have to better explain everything to me when we get out of this Rosy.”
“It’s a promise!” Rosy smiled before turning her back on Mighty and flopping to the ground making a ‘w’ with her legs.
Trusting in Tails and Mighty, Rosy pulled out her tarot cards even as it felt like the cold from them was burning her fingertips through her gloves. “Ooh~ stop that! I’m trying to help but I’m stuck so you have to help me a little too. Please, if you can.” As she pleaded with the power that was being channeled through her cards, she carefully lay them out in a pattern on the ground before her doing her best to ignore the battle taking place around her. Tails and Mighty were doing their best and she had to do hers as well. “And so do you,” Rosy demanded of the power she was attempting to communicate with. And perhaps it heard.
Darkness fell faster than a blink in the Beacon Bay as Rosy lay the last card of the spread down with power completely disappeared from the airship. The sounds of the drones lifelessly crashing to the ground and the groaning of the vessel as it started to lose altitude filled the air. Then a crackling sound buzzed and echoed through the air, the geometric lines of the cubes above coming alive with a black and purple light. It was unsettling as the dark light filled the room with a similar lit smoke and Rosy was sure she could see the shadows of strange creatures with glowing lines on their bodies dancing about in it. The sight left everyone speechless and chilled as it was nothing like they had ever seen before and seemed not of their world, but they were corrected by the golden shimmer of the tell-tale appearance of Rings and the golden motes of light signaling their arrival filled the room before coalescing before Rosy. With a flash of light a Ring Gate spun into being before her and power started to return to the Coral Cloud.
“It worked!” Tails voice cut the unsettling silence along with the slowly returning hm of the airship in triumph! “I can’t believe it! I can’t wait until I can talk to the professor about this! This is like a whole new realm of knowledge about Rings and the world–”
“Tails!” Rosy interrupted him with an urgent shout, already on her feet and her cards gathered and put away.
“Right,” Tails laughed at himself flying down to join her and Mighty who strolled over wearily.
“We don’t know where this gate is going to take us do we?” Mighty asked knowing it was a silly question.
“Just like most Ring Gates then,” Rosy answered with a bright smile and the anticipation for adventure in her eyes. “But, this one we know will take us to a Gaia Eye! Let’s go save it from Eggman!”
With a shout, Rosy threw a fist into the air and ran into the Ring Gate followed by Tails and Mighty.

As for my selections, things got much more personal than I’d expected lol. Thanks for reading, and hope you’re having a great day! Alright, here goes:
1. Swiss Army Man

This is my favorite movie of all time, and I’m not sure anything will ever dethrone it. Every single aspect of this movie is beautiful, and it only gets better as you learn about how the movie was made. It’s a movie of very crude humor and deep messages (one of the movie’s taglines is “the first fart will make you laugh, the last will make you cry”). Lots of folks get different messages and meanings from this movie because there’s oodles of symbolism, but at the movie’s core is a message about growth, accepting who you are and who you were, and learning to love yourself and admit your past mistakes and growing past them (as well as thinking with your heart and head instead of your dick lol). Ok I have to stop now, but please watch this movie if you ever get a chance (it’s on Netflix right now btw).

2. Half Wet

This may be cheating as it’s a short film, but Half Wet is very comforting and near and dear to my heart. I don’t think I’ve gone a year without seeing it at least once since discovering it. It’s beautiful in its art, A E S T H E T I C, and audio, and while it may come across as a little abstract it’s very fun to watch and quote!

This pick is absolutely cheating, haha. This is a TV series rather than a film, but it is second to none when it comes to providing comfort and positive feelings. The link above leads to the episode “The Secret Dish” (as well as the playlist) because it was the very first episode I watched which got me into the series after listening to a friend’s recommendation! The world of the Moomins is full of nature, slow paced, charming, and magical and this is reflected in the music, every character, the stories, and just everything. This series got me through college and helped so much during one of the worst periods of my life (so far), and maybe it will do right by you too.
4. Mr. Bean’s Holiday

This movie is one of my “go-to” feel good films. A silly man goes on a silly vacation. Every location is beautiful, the humor is jolly good fun, and it’s not a film you really need to focus on if you just want something nice on. Additionally, the final scene of the movie (which is the link above) is PURE CATHARSIS and the greatest “end of a journey” scene that I can think of, set to wonderful music.
5. The Sonic the Hedgehog OVA

This was the favorite movie of my childhood. The animation is that 90′s anime aesthetic that’s so nice to look at, it’s extremely quotable, and it’s a must watch for any Sonic fan imo. This is on this list because while the movie itself isn’t necessarily comforting, it captured my “childlike wonder” and imagination form playing classic Sonic games back in the day so well and rewatching the movie brings back that feeling every time.
6. Jurassic Park

This is also an odd choice for a “comfort film” list, haha, but allow me to explain. I think the first minute of the trailer for this movie (linked above) perfectly encapsulates the way I feel about this movie. The sheer sense of awe and wonder as these dinosaurs and park itself are all brought to life on the big screen. This film is a labor of love and fantastic filmmaking, and when I think of the concept of “film” itself Jurassic Park is my go-to movie.
7. On Your Mark

(It takes about a minute for the lyrics to kick in) This is another “cheat” in that it’s not a feature length film, but this music video animated by Studio Ghibli tells a full story (with multiple endings by the way) all the same. The lyrics and visuals present a message of hope and freedom, and it helps to come back to this music video from time to time, especially in times like right now.

Henlo! I'm curious what your fave Sonic character(s) is ^^ and do you have any headcanons for them?
oh boy! okay i'm going to do my best to answer this but i have been in this fandom forever and could write a dissertation on just like,,, one character. so instead i'll sparknote some cute things about my top 4 and if you want to hear a more elaborate response i can do separate posts for each of them! it was hard enough to pick a couple characters since i love them all 😊
1) espio the chameleon
i love this little purple man so much oh my god. for starters, i'd like to think he isn't as serious as a lot of people make him out to be. yeah he seems chill but let's be real, he's arrogant and i love every second of it! he definitely radiates hot topic vibes but we're talking ronnie radke, hollywood undead vibes. definitely an e-boy but not in the fake alt way, he just radiates soft-grunge vibes? he's bisexual with a male lean and definitely dated mighty at some point, but i personally ship him with wave (more on that in a second!) his best friend is silver (i ship them too tbh) but his friends are rouge and shadow for the most part. he's the character closest to shadow (personality wise, not emotional proximity) and i adore their interactions in shadow's game so i sorta ship them too...? ahhh this is supposed to be about headcanons! anyways, i think he's fun to be around and has a thing for people with good stories to tell: wave about the past, silver about the future, and rouge/shadow with the present as agents. i think the cooperation between the chaotix detective agency and GUN is something people should write more often! oh, and he likes green tea boba ✨
2) wave the swallow
god, she made me realize i like girls and i still absolutely adore her. it was taken down but at one point years ago, her birthday was listed as november 11th which makes her a scorpio, and as a fellow scorpio i stand by it! she's also definitely bi but with a female lean, and her best friend/occasional partner is rouge. they remind me of maddy and cassie from euphoria, but wave isn't as bitter as maddy ofc. i feel like people forget that storm and jet are pretty damn incompetent without her, she literally does everything for them and that's a big nod to her people pleasing. yeah she's arrogant, but she's not wrong in being self absorbed because she keeps things running! she radiates hayley kiyoko, p!nk, 100gecs, and paramore vibes. she's a baddie but a softie! i think her and espio would be amazing together (even platonically) because he loves learning and debates, and she has a lot to say and needs someone to respond, as opposed to zoning out. i feel like she could be a famous rollerskater on tiktok or something, and would have her own line of custom gear! she might be cold and competitive, but she's really sweet and just has no way of expressing it... poor girl. i think her and sonic could be amazing friends, and i'd love to see more art of them being pals and going on adventures together!
3. shadow the hedgehog
hehehehehe oh boy, as the current love interest of my fixation character, shadow is getting more attention than usual these days! i always liked him but my fave boy and girl were espio and wave for the longest time, so finally getting to fixate on shadow is great for me! shadow is neurodivergent, basically in canon. his memory issues are both trauma related and just a part of his programming. something that i admire about espio and shadow being friends is that the former loves authority and doesn't need it, but the latter despises it but needs it. shadow was created to obey, and so even if GUN wrongs him a thousand times, he needs them. it's why he keeps going back to eggman, and helps sonic when asked. shadow might not admit it, but he has a saviour complex! although i agree that with modern music he'd listen to like mcr and pierce the veil etc, i think he'd also resonate with sex pistols and other music from the decades he missed while in stasis (footloose is probably one of his fave movies just because of the killer soundtrack!) he loves flowers and does his best to take care of plants, has nervous tics, and the reason his quills turn upwards is because of all the chaos energy he has! super sonic's quills turn up when transformed, and shadow is constantly tapped into that energy: even with inhibitors it's a lot to manage. shadow also loves reading, and i think his favourite book would be The Wars by Timothy Findley (amazing read, please check it out because it reminds me so much of Shadow oh my god)
4. INFINITE!!!
okay i have to keep this one short but he is currently my favourite character, and i could talk about him forever. i know SEGA claims his real name is Infinite, but i headcanon that in the village he came from he wasn't given a name because he was considered a burden and a curse (due to his heterochromia and other reasons). for me he was called araperi or ara (nothing/no in Georgian) because they only referred to him via negative reinforcement. the scar on his eye is because either he or another jackal tried to claw it out when he was little because it made him an outcast and he wanted to belong. he only started school when he was in highschool and never really learned how to read english (i base a lot of his village lore around Georgia and my experiences with Georgian culture- even though my culture was erased when i got adopted lol). he only learned english through musical theatre, and is fluent but not very literate in english (can't read or write very well). he radiates younger sibling vibes so i headcanon that he has 4 older sisters who all treated him pretty bad on varying levels. after a year or two of highschool he ran away with some friends and after meeting more nomads, squad jackal was eventually formed! infinite (or finn as i sometimes call him) was definitely into theatre (his favourite musical being sweeney todd) and he's an AMAZING singer, acting too (which is sorta canon because he adopted shadow's personality and fighting style after their first encounter and rehearsed a whole monologue lmao). his singing voice sounds like clem turner's but with a bit more rasp, probably because i feel like he'd listen to bring me the horizon and kim dracula! infinite is actually a big puppy once he likes you, he's just secretly awkward and insecure as hell (maybe the last part isn't a secret, haha)
wow, this was longer than expected and i feel like i hardly said anything, but this is sorta where i'm at with these four! i could talk about them forever though, so feel free to ask follow ups or request a full post for them, any ships i mentioned (or didn't) or if you want a post about anyone else!
