Ok stupid rant, but I’m sick of looking up a game and only being able to find guides and wikis made by people who obviously hate the game they’re writing information about.

I was looking for guides for the hedge maze portion of Castlevania 64 because I was stuck in it and couldn’t visualize what the layout of maze looks like (turns out, it’s not technically a traditional maze, aka one route to the exit, which helps a lot) and the only guide I can find is one on gamefaqs or something where the person cannot contain themselves from constantly interjecting to say how much they don’t like Malus cause “ugh overdramatic cutscene, his parents are dead who cares, he looks like a girl” or how they hate the game cause it’s too hard and annoying and “oh boy as if this game couldn’t get worse”.

And like dude! Sincerely! Shut up! I don’t care! I just want to know what I’m supposed to do! You are allowed to dislike the game and express your opinions, just please keep those to a little ending opinion section or a review!!! Stop breaking up actual instructions I can’t keep track of what you’re telling me to do!!!!!!!!!!!

And I saw something similar happen on a different smaller wiki-ish sort of website (it might have been the Castlevania Dungeon, I’m not sure. Definitely not Fandom tho.) on the Castlevania: The Adventure page when I was looking for some facts. Again, the person writing was constantly being all “not that this game is important anyway” and like! I literally don’t care if you don’t like the game that’s not what I’m here for!!! Heck the website even had some misinformation on the page too saying that Christopher was Simon’s grandson in that “or whatever, it doesn’t matter” kind of tone! Like!!!!! Shut up!!!!!!!!!!!! I am here for factual information! Not a review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s just absolutely annoying and now I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do in CV64 cause I can barely process what this guy is saying ugh.

What you’re seeing is actually I believe my 15th attempt

Or 20th, I stopped counting after a certain point

This level is absolutely chock full of do or die situations, pixel perfect jumps, insta kill onstacles, enemies that immediately attack you as soon as they’re on screen (sometimes from off screen...). The slow down will fuck you over so much here mainly due to the fact that it can interfere with your inputs which in my experience means Christopher swinging the whip later than intended or not at all which suuuuuu-

The absolute worst is that final gauntlet right before Dracula where you have to defeat 4 of those guys that served as the boss of stage 1. It’s a big fucking dick move because if you’ve been hit in the previous rooms thus losing your powered up whip then this hallway is practically impossible: these guys take too many hits to kill and if you backtrack too much while trying to avoid them they will RESPAWN after a while! And no: you can’t damage boost past them because Christopher’s too slow

Dracula himself is technically easy (a giant bat as a final form? Someone must’ve resurrected on the wrong side of the coffin) but because of the extremely cramped room it’ll require you a few tries to nail his pattern and guess what? If you get a game over you gotta do the whole stage ALL OVER AGAIN!

Y’know to be as generous as possible I genuinely did feel a certain feeling of accomplishment upon finally conquering this level. Who knows? Maybe one day this game might become a sort of guilty pleasure of mine almost like with some parts of X6 by virtue of it being inherently satisfying to beat a bullshit hard game

...but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a piece of shit

Cute detail that we see Dracula’s bat form rise out of his castle’s ruins after the credits as a way to hint at a sequel. I’d say it’s bold of the developers to expect a sequel to this mess but hey it actually got one!

I wonder... did the Belmont clan knew that Dracula would come back to life eventually, after Trevor, and then Hector defeated him? Or was it a surprise?

I mean my guess is that they always had their doubt. If someone managed to bring him back once, especially so fast after his first death, then someone else could manage to do it again one day. But after one hundred years, maybe they were starting to think they were safe?

I can just imagine Christopher being raised to fight the night, being told the tale of Trevor and his friends, of Dracula's deaths, but grew up thinking that he will never have to face Dracula. He trained to become the best hunter, just like his family before him, but what were the chances that he could ever meet Dracula, a century after his death?

So it came as a surprise to him, when the Castle raised again after so long, and he felt the dark power calling for his blood, thirsting for it. He was prepared physically for this... but mentally? Not so much. Still, he couldn't ignore the call of his fate. So he went and confronted Dracula... but maybe the fear of actually fighting him, the shock of seeing him, and the weight of the responsabilities on his shoulders, clouding his mind, are the reasons why he did not realize he had failed to kill the Count the first time. :)
