Anyhow, Chiori with a s/o who just can't keep their clothes in good condition. They're just out adventuring, a lot which caused their clothes to get messed up.

You should honestly see my clothes whenever I get to painting my minis. My elbows are covered in paint, not even mentioning my hands.

Chiori is going to do violence to S/O.

She works hard to keep her own clothes in relatively clean condition.

Sure, Fontaine had plenty of helpful technology to help wash and dry clothes, but that didn't mean she went frolicking in the mud on purpose.

So, Chiori is very frustrated with S/O waltzing into their home, covered in dirt, torn rags, and Archons know what else.

She pinches the bridge of her nose as a loud sigh exits her mouth.

(Chiori) "Seriously? I just stitched that shirt last week."

(S/O) "Hah...uh, sorry."

Chiori teaches S/O how to take care of their own clothes so she doesn't have to fix it every single damn time.

After a certain point, she doesn't even cringe at the state of their clothing anymore.

She's honestly amazed they haven't just waltzed in half-naked at this point.

Hearing the bell ring on her doors, she spares S/O a single glance before going back to cutting the cloth with her swords.

(Chiori) "Shirt or pants ruined?"

(S/O) "Not even a hello first, cHIORI?"

(Chiori) "Hello, S/O. There, now what part am I fixing?"

(S/O) "...The shirt...-"

(Chiori) "I must be psychic. Take a seat over there, I'll get to you eventually."

Just because S/O is their boyfriend/girlfriend, does not mean they get any special treatment.

In fact, they probably get ragged on even worse for knowing how she is, yet having the gall to walk into her store looking like that.

As a child, Chiori was notorious on the streets of Inazuma for being incredibly rambunctious. A troublemaker child; the lone daughter of merchants who had nought the time to be too strict with her, considering that fact responsible for how she grew to be far more blunt than most, and dislike the sheer concept of authority.

People were often questioning how, and why, a child as sweet and polite as yourself would become friends with a child as bad news as Chiori. But, the truth was, she was misunderstood - and you had grasped that hidden reflection in her character the first instance you met her. At heart, she wasn't a bad child. She was just... extremely blunt.

Okay, maybe she did do a few 'bad' things. Like the time she grasped your wrist and pulled you into a nearby bush, whilst telling you with absolute certainty that the plan for the day was to sneak into the Kamisato Estate and move objects around. Or that one time she requested for you to attend one of her lessons with her, to which her father agreed, hoping that your presence would benefit in a way which would be desirable, only to watch as she gave her teacher the runaround of the century.

But, despite that side of her who would constantly bounce off the walls and cause trouble, she had a side to her that was harmless. Coming from a family who could not always provide what it is that you needed, Chiori would go out of her way to help. Whether that would be pestering her mother and father for them to help, or sharing her own spoilings with you. Inviting you and your family to meals, without telling her parents until she's already done so. Persisting you keep the books that her teachers would provide her with and forget to take back when they flee, encouraging you to study them if that is what you wish to do.

Approaching you with a mysterious smile whenever you meet up, and you brushing off the oddities which was her measuring the size of your wrist with her fingers, and comparing the length of her arms to yours.

One day presenting you by surprise with a garment that she claims that she had made herself with the help of an experienced tailor. You, touched, treasuring the article of clothing with absolute tenderness. Yet as the gifts became more and more frequent, it came to the point your entire wardrobe went under the "made and gifted by Chiori" title.

Her teachers would probably pass out if they ever saw the scene of you and Chiori, both sat on opposite sides of a table, whilst you taught her some of what you had learnt from the books she gifted you. The brunette, astoundingly sitting there in silence and listening to every word that comes out of your mouth as you teach. Whilst she would eventually get a little bit restless, you know her well enough to understand how to recognise the signs, and stop. She would genuinely learn something from you, unlike her previous teachers.

By the time you move to Fontaine with her, you are practically her personal model. She knows your every measurement to the very millimetre; your favourite kind of fabric; your every preference when it comes to dress; absolutely everything. If Chiori were to make something for you, it would guarantee to become your next favourite article of clothing, as she made it with the intention of becoming "the best".

Years ago, when she first started out, she made the promise that she would make clothes for you extremely often for as long as she was making clothes. Now, she isn't the kind of person to go back on a promise - even now that she's a big-shot.

she tastes just like her perfume smells, it sounds weird but it makes quite a lot of sense, she is working with it all the time. she makes a lot of perfumes but one thing they all have in common: you tried them first.

she tastes like chips, the kind you always catch her eating wether shes on the job or not. yes she takes her job very seriously, but that doesn't mean she isn't going to take a break once in a while.

Shenhe, Chiori and Eula with an SO with a smile that can melt even the coldest of hearts when they’re around. You gotta love those warm fuzzy couples after all.

Shenhe feels at peace everytime she sees her S/O smile.

Anytime they look at her, she can't help her heart suddenly beating faster.

Even with her emotions being suppressed, that smile alone was almost enough to completely break through it.

Shenhe doesn't fight the urge to hold them tightly everytime their smile gets her emotional.

(S/O) "S-Shenhe?"

(Shenhe) "Please, keep smiling. It makes me feel happy."

Though in truth, S/O alone made Shenhe happy. The smile was just something made her love them even more.

Chiori can't help but feel a little bit better after seeing S/O with such an earnest smile.

It was enough to make any annoyance of the day vanish without fail.

Though she doesn't make too much of a big deal about it.

After all, their smile was simply nice, and that was a fact. Why bring it up every time?

Once she sees their smile, she gives one back, albeit it's not nearly as sunny as theirs.

(Chiori) "Hm. Is there anything that won't make you smile?"

(S/O) "When it comes to you, you always make me smile, Chiori!"

Chiori hums with a faint smile.

(Chiori) "I should really have you talking to every customer for me when it doesn't involve getting their measurements...But then again, that'd be a little counterproductive."

(S/O) "Just a little!"

Eula freezes (HA) up and her cheeks become heated seeing S/O's smile directed at her.

After a quick clearing of her throat, Eula smiles back as she relaxes.

(Eula) "You're happy as always."

(S/O) "When you're here, how could I not be?"

Her eyes widen in surprise for a brief moment, but her expression softens immediately after.

(Eula) "Well, aren't you a smoothtalker?"

She doesn't say it aloud, but just a glimpse of their smile is enough to make her entire week,.

I've been looking into some of the criticisms people have of this character, since I'd been hearing things and I wanted to know if those concerns were really valid. Long story short: they are.

People are understandably upset about the nerfs she's been receiving. It's pretty frustrating when we get characters like Neuvillette who are insane monsters, but then the devs turn around and relentlessly scrutinize and tweak others, like Chiori.

Chiori was nowhere near as strong as Neuvillette is currently and she's seemingly getting hit with nerf after nerf. It really makes you wonder if HoYo is even trying to balance the game, or if they're just playing favorites. Which, needless to say, would be incredibly unfair. Or maybe they really are just that stupid and have no idea what they're doing. Hard to say.

Anyway, this is not a doompost; rather, it's an attempt at a rational analysis of what Chiori's shortcomings are and what they mean for her success as a unit. As I said, I find most criticisms of her kit to be valid, but that doesn't mean Chiori is weak. Far from it.

The general consensus is that Chiori is a stronger version of Albedo. She has pretty much the exact same role, but she deals more damage than Albedo does, and doesn't have to deal with the cringe of her primary source of damage being killed by bosses all the time. In this sense, Chiori is a perfectly good unit who has a place in the meta.

The primary complaint isn't Chiori's power level, it's her lack of flexibility and the fact that she's essentially a rehash of an existing character. People dislike that Albedo is being powercrept, and that Chiori wasn't given a more unique design that doesn't limit her to mono Geo teams. That's all very understandable.

Now for the actual nerfs: removal of DEF snapshotting for Chiori's dolls, and of course the decrease in the burst multiplier. Plus the changes made to her Constellation in earlier beta versions. Personally I don't think these nerfs change much, although removing Chiori's ability to snapshot was cringe and the burst damage nerf seems unwarranted. 30% reduction in damage dealt is a bit much if all they wanted to do was reduce her Energy needs and make C2 better.

HoYo going out of their way to nerf the output of Chiori, when her only real strength is being able to deal a lot of damage, feels a bit like a slap in the face. Especially when they're doing that instead of addressing some of Chiori's key issues, like the lack of AoE on her dolls' attacks, or the fact that she can't reposition them because of her skill's relatively long cooldown. Not to mention, once again, her team restrictions.

What this all means is that Chiori is not a particularly good pull if you're looking to add value to your account or just trying to 36-star the Abyssal Spire for the first time. She can be pretty strong for new players, due to her raw damage that will help you breeze through early-game content, but for the average invested F2P, she's not great.

But also: if you're willing to do what it takes to make her good, Chiori will be good. It's a matter of playing her in the right team and giving her enough investment to put in work for you. If, like me, you're undeterred by Chiori's blandness and limitations, don't worry about all the doomposting. You'll be able to make her work, she's not a bad character by any means.
