Hello to my favorite bitches, long time no see! Ready for a classic mejigay gossip sesh?

If you were anything like me, you started a Tumblr blog about visual kei very young (I've posted about vk on this blog since I was 16) and now you're an adult. MEJIBRAY broke up around 6 years ago now I think right? I am now 24, have a masters degree and planning on moving to Japan in spring. Crazy how time flies right.

Let's refresh our minds a little bit okay? Now I'm assuming you remember everything from those 6-ish years ago. The MEJIBRAY label/contract issue with Tsuzuku and Koichi, Tsuzuku's borderline disorder, the refusal to do encores during the last tour, the charcoal face paint and the result of it all which was 8p-sb. If you want a recap on that specific semi-disbandment drama there's plenty of posts that I made about it while it was happening so feel free to check it out! (keep in mind I was like 18 and very dramatic writing those posts lol) There's also this great summary from a redditor in the comment section here

The same redditor even filled me in on stuff I felt out of the loop about in their reply to the OP. I know 8p-sb is gone and Koichi does Trembling Bambi solo stuff while Genki (Tsuzuku) is a vocal coach, is in the band 30 seconds certain victory, and revives VanessA occasionally. But this has also happened:

Yeah what the fuck Koichi? Now, I do remember starting that yakuza theory here on Tumblr back in the MEJIBRAY semi-disbanding days. I read it on tanuki and told y'all about it and got soooo much shit for it at the time lol. Looks like Koichi kind of confirmed the theory! (take that rude anons in my asks back then lmao). However, Koichi staying in the same industry he claims is rotten and run by the yakuza is definitely weird. Why talk all high and mighty while benefitting from it one may ask. Either way, for those wondering what Koichi is up to, there's your answer and an explanation to why he got backlash. About the VanessA stuff, one can conclude that our favorite duo, Genki and Koichi, doesn't seem to be that involved with each other anymore.

I would also like to take time to talk about Genki's well being, as some of you might know he has a youtube channel in Japanese. From my so-so Japanese skills I can still keep up with a lot of what he's saying. Good news, he's doing better now than the MEJIBRAY days from the looks of it. In this video he talked about how the photo from the MEJIBRAY days was him being unwell and the picture to the right is him feeling much better!

(TW for this paragraph: self harm) In another video he talked about various topics/gave advice such as about self harm/cutting and how it annoys him when people say he shouldn't hurt the body his parents gave to him. He thinks that's an incorrect way to tell someone to stop cutting and seems in general to be very open to talk about this topic while smiling and not getting angered. So he seemed very stable, mature and content to me.

What about Meto/Yutaro? Well, he seems to be a happy chef! As for MiA... I've seen him hang out with hosts like Roland and in general seems to live that bougie life. Roland is a top host who aims for the prince vibe just like MiA, and is open about his plastic surgeries just like MiA. Now let's get into a really recent topic about Mia!

Just like me, you might still follow our MEJIBRAY boys on various social medias. And just like me, you might have seen MiA's picture where he chews a bone. "Huh, weird" you might have thought as you scrolled past it. Well here I am, resurrecting this blog once again, just to tell you that the bone is MiA's fucking ribcage bone. I ain't posting that picture, find it yourself cause it's gross.

As MiA poses in the same costumes from his MEJIBRAY days and posts them on Instagram, you'd think his life and social media posts were a bit mundane. Then, a fucking picture of him chewing a thick ass bone pops up. The bone in question was taken out during a ribcage surgery, that MiA claims was done in order for him to create a custom guitar with his BONE INFUSED into it. Yeah I know. What???

In general you could either see it as him being a massive attention hungry person, or as unhinged and putting his life in danger. Bone surgeries are very harmful and anyone with two working eyes can see his shaved jawline bone already. So adding a removed ribcage bone to that... It's dangerous.

That's it for the gossip sesh! I'm thinking of making this "Keeping up with MEJIBRAY: The series" a thing whenever I think there needs to be a big gossip update like this.

AK & VK's Hobbies

A lot of the AKS probs do horse-riding too cause rich kids and their parents have pet horses mostly in canon stuff.

Also hanging out with pets for VKs and AKs since they all have pets galore. Though no one has more than Aladdin, Jasmine and their kids’ massive menagerie.

Everyone sings (probs various degrees of good)

Harriet: Likes doodling (not coherent usually & just for her eyes only) and reading.

Harry & CJ: They like to read but mostly for the dramaticness & extraness. And because they are Hook’s kids so classical literature and stuff is easy for them. It’s probably a hobby that surprises people the most!

Hook kids may also play some instruments cause their dad does (piano, harpsichord and from jake and the Neverland pirates: the trumpet)

Ben: Headcanon that he can do some ‘tinkering’ with things. Not full on inventing like his grandfather, Maurice or like Carlos. But it’s a talent he has from spending lots of time with his grandad during his childhood.

He is probably a great assistant/helper! His mode of doing things is trial and error! Though he probably does know the basics pretty well. It helps him relax and calm down. It transports him to simpler times with his grandad and the stories he used to hear.

Audrey: Swordfighting, fencing & jousting with & cause of her parents (mum too cause in one disney picture book Aurora does joust! which is cool of Disney to give us content for. Also Aurora uses a sword in concept art).

Spending time with woodland creatures, hearing stories from her ‘great-aunts’-the 3 good fairies and gramma. She likes foraging. Embroidery and stitching too maybe. Probs likes reading stories too. She also writes her diary.

Gil: possibly woodworking/carpentry? But he values detail, style and elegance and likes engraving it with art unlike his father who only cares about its functionality and just generally leaves it like bare and crude. People also hc he likes gardening which is cute!

Hunting responsibly? A take I heard once. Like he only takes what he needs and sometimes just enjoys running after animals and not actually hunting if that made any sense.

‘Uma’s wicked book for VKs’ said he made Uma and Harry’s outfits for em I think so he’s a fashion designer too? Or maybe they gave him special instructions that he followed. Good for him. Cause dude can still sew then.

Jay & Jade: Practicing disguises (Jafar & Nasira both got disguises in canon so like just a family thing). Practicing magic when they get to Auradon (Jay is 1/4th Genie in mine. Plus Jafar & Nasira do have some magic of their own so do Jay & Jade).

Anthony: reading, upcycling outfits & accessories (because a line in the 1st book saying his outfits look regal & tailor-made somehow though they’re made of the same materials other’s outfits are made of. He generally makes any outfits work but further elevated by him tailoring stuff).

He likes spending time with his mum, siblings, cousins, pet(s) & his bestie, Eddie Balthazar! Loves throwing parties (based on the 1st ‘isle’ book again, saying he throws great parties)- he just enjoys the effort, the pay off & it helps him unwind (good for him. ambivert vibes).

Thinking up business strategies, accounting & book keeping! (Why are these in his hobbies? He finds it pretty fun when it all works out. So generally ‘plotting’? Yeah. Likes things organised), being a taste tester for his sibling’s food creations (they’re just good at it), dignifiedly sassing annoying isle people (mostly villains, some won’t get it sometimes) & learnin‘ stuff like languages!

He can play the piano but not really something he likes as much (wind instruments aren't his thing just like they weren’t his mum’s thing). Probs likes the idea of dueling but not exactly good at it?

Hadie: Likes rock & roll music like his dad, maybe he likes giving himself new piercings as a hobby? (met someone who did this irl! sounds cool but be careful). Likes to be a pest to the villains who are horrible parents and people (like him bothering Frollo to do his fortune quite regularly- @panthera-tigris-venenata made a post bout this! Give it a read, it's such a treat).

is the prince of the underworld so he likes to practice magic with his dad though you don’t really see results on the isle cause of the no-magic nature of the barrier (I suppose other magic users also found it very hard learning magic without well, magic! His irises glow yellow sometimes & his blue hair lights on fire so some magic still is kinda visible.)

Likes hanging out with his friends! Oh and his cousin, Freddie (if one hcs Freddie being Ursula’s daughter which I adore) and by extension Celia (who isn't Ursula’s kid in mine so not his blood cousin but he still treats her like one)

Chad: Dude won’t ever admit it but doing chores helps him clear his head and he likes cleanliness cause his mom wanted to still know some responsibility (never forced him to do it though). Likes sports and also shopping! He can sew but like only repair stuff. He can cook some basics but not a hobby of his and not something he ever has to do.

Jenna, Rafi, Salima, Aziz (& their two lil siblings in mine): Hanging out with family, friends and pets.

All love going on long magic carpet rides. (‘Borders? Air traffic? Aw, bless your heart.’ They have like no need for passports on carpet rides & Agrabah’s got it as a clause in their agreement. The royal family doesn’t need those. (reminds me of how irl the British royal family’s head doesn’t need a passport). They have passports though. This is a new idea I just had & yeah. Can have a lot of exploration).

They love travelling. Probs try different modes of travel.

Aziz can Skateboard (based on Jasmine skateboarding in an Aladdin console game XD. Can't remember which game it was rn. But ‘Nasira's Revenge’ maybe? Feel free to correct me if I remembered the wrong game. While trying to find a pic, I found a doll of Jaz with Carpet as a skateboard so interesting.)

Anxelin & Ruby: Too many cause of their mom, Rapunzel's many hobbies and how it inspired them. They love trying out new stuff and are pretty adventurous. Their favourite book series is obv the 'Flynnigan Rider series'.

Best Gift Ever | Carlos De Vil

Author’s Note: I got this request 3 years ago and here it is finally.

"It's not that I don't believe you but..." You trailed off, rubbing your face tiredly. "You think we don't know who our best friend has a crush on." Mal raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. You flushed, a bit embarrassed. They didn't have a reason to lie, you supposed.

According to her and Evie, Carlos had the biggest crush on you and they were more than delighted to see that you felt the same. "You should tell him." Evie spoke softly to you, rubbing your arm comfortingly. "Yeah. And then we can count you as his Christmas present." Mal snickered.

Your heart felt like it was going to blow up and the butterflies in your stomach were rioting but nonetheless, you were all smiles and red, warm cheeks. “I want it to be special.” You declared. This was the first Christmas the VKs had spent in Auradon and they had all be amazed and wonderstruck by the festivities in some way or another.

You had heard only bits and snippets of their childhood on the Isle and from what you understood, Carlos had it the very worst. This broke your heart and you wanted to make him feel as loved and wanted to make up for all the years missed out on.

“Just call him on Christmas and tell him to meet you. And to get the point across, wear a bow. Just a bow.” Mal cackled as Evie smacked her shoulder. “Stop! He would faint.” Evie giggled.

As Mal and Evie continued with their shenanigans, you racked your brain for ideas when it hit you. Next week was the yearly Christmas fundraiser put on by Auradon Prep. Any talent was welcome and encouraged to join.

“Guys!” Evie and Mal went quiet. Your eyes were filled with excitement and determination. “I’m gonna sing a song for him. At the show.” You nodded, becoming more and more excited at the idea.

Evie gasped. “And I can make you a special outfit! He won’t be able to keep his eyes off of you!” She squealed, quickly pulling out a sewing tape measure. “As long as he waits to put his hands on you until later.” Mal snickered, leaning against the wall.

You smiled, allowing Evie to begin taking your measurements. You knew exactly what to sing.

That was last week and you would never be able to repay Evie. She had put all other projects on hold, sewing your dress and making sure that it was perfect. And boy, you felt perfect.

You focused on taking deep calming breaths, not even watching the talent going on stage before you. “(Y/N)!” Mal whispered, coming from the stairs that led to the audience, Evie right on her heels. “Ooh girl! You look so good!” Evie praised even though she had seen you everyday for the last week.

Evie had sewn you a red dress that hugged your body in the right ways and stopped mid thigh. It was off the shoulder with sleeves that covered above your elbow to your wrist and a classic fuzzy white trim on the top of the bodice. It screamed sexy Christmas.

“We got him here, right there.” Mal pointed through the curtains, leading you to peak through the folds, quickly spotting the familiar white haired boy in the audience next to Jay. Mal put her hand on your shoulder, grabbing your attention. “All we had to do was tell him you’re performing and he nearly knocked us over trying to get here.” She winked at you, making you flush and match your dress.

The sound of applause from the audience and Fairy Godmother on the mic, thanking the performer, made you all turn your heads. “Up next, (Y/N)!” Evie and Mal whispered good lucks behind you before darting back into the audience the way they came.

You smoothed down your dress and walked out onstage, nearly being blinded by the lights. You reached center stage and adjusted the mic stand to your height. Once ready, you took a shaky breath and nodded to the audio guy in the wings who began the track.

Gazing over the audience, you met Carlos’s eyes and held his gaze as your cue for the first verse came.

You sang loud and clear, carrying notes flawlessly all while holding eye contact with Carlos, desperately hoping your message would come across clearly.

The beat picked up and you got lost in the rhythm, allowing yourself to smile and sway to the beat. You broke eye contact with Carlos and focused on the rest of the crowd, putting every bit of emotion behind your performance.

You glanced at Carlos who was focused on you, cheeks flushed. You shot him a wink, flushing yourself as a smile spread across his face. In return, a wide victorious smile crossed yours.

You continued with the song, getting lost in the lyrics and emotions. So lost, in fact, you didn’t notice Mal, Evie, and Jay shoving their way through the crowd, dragging Carlos to where he would be right in front of the stage. He didn’t resist, not wanting to miss a single second of your song.

Soon the song was coming to an end and you met Carlos’s gaze again, him being closer than he was before. You took a leap of faith and pulled the mic off the stand and strutted to the end of the stage, easing yourself down gracefully.

You looked and met Carlos’s eyes again and suddenly felt more shy face to face.

You were barely singing, your voice being carried softly by the mic. You stopped in front of Carlos as the music ended, the crowd clapping and whistling louder than before.

You squeaked as Carlos pulled you in for a tight but gentle hug. You hugged him back before pulling away and placing a hand on his jaw. “Merry Christmas, Carlos.” You murmured, feeling like you two were the only people in the world.

You closed your eyes and leaned in, his lips finally meeting yours. This gift for Carlos was also a gift to you.

You walked around with a huge basket on your arm as well as your school backpack, the bag filled to the brim with cute clear bags of tarts and a flower attached to each bag. The tarts were an old recipe from your mother’s chef. It never tasted amazing on the Isle due to lack of good ingredients but you used the basement kitchens at school with Auradon ingredients and they tasted amazing. You were obsessed and baked them all the time. You went around handing everyone you passed a bag.

“Have a nice day!”

“Will do. Thanks for the makeover by the way, Heart.”

“No problem, you look fabulous. I can really say the change in your walk.”

Evie may have have been the fashion master, and Mal had hair covered, but neither of them could touch a candle to your confidence classes. Although, Evie did sometimes chew your ear off about constantly cutting holes and slits into her outfits.

All the students you passed were pleasantly surprised with the treats. You saw all of the VKs around Mal’s locker, as well as Moetini, Ben, Audrey, and Chad approaching.

“I made tarts!” You announced to everyone.

“Blueberry or strawberry?”

You held up two bags. The strawberry tarts had a classic heart shaped cut out while the blueberry cut outs were shaped like spades. Daisies were the flower that was in each bag. You handed everyone a bag, even Audrey and Chad took one.

“Oh my God. What is all this?” Moetini asked in shock.

“You’re such an Auradon girl,” Mal said.

You gasped. “I am not. I just like these…”

“Sorry, Heart. I do believe you’re an official Auradon girl.” Ben took one of the bags holding the strawberry tarts. “No one should complain though if Auradon girl means we get free cookies then sign me up.”

You snatched his cookie out of his hand. “Take that back.”

“Is being an Auradon girl that bad?”

“I’m a VK. I was made to grow up on the Isle, don’t try to erase that.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to say you weren’t from the Isle, you just act so different.”

“Is that a bad thing?”

“No, it’s great. Just not the typical VK.” Ben motioned to the others behind you.

“I didn’t mean to offend you, really (Y/N).”

Tears welled up in your eyes. Ben panicked and tried to wipe your tears.

“Whoa, whoa. I’m so sorry. (Y/N)? (Y/N)?”

You slipped fresh bag of the strawberry tarts into Ben’s hands before looking up at him smiling through the tears. “I can’t believe you fell for that.”

“Not funny, Heart. I thought I really hurt you.”

“I mean I’m not an Auradon girl but nothing you said bothered me. Here, I know you like the strawberry but the blueberries are a personal fav. My dad can attest to that, used to be his favorite.”

You handed him another bag of tarts. You turned to the other VKs.

“Time for Goodness Class. Let’s roll out.”

Mal slung her arms around you and Evie’s shoulders, the boys tagged along close behind.

You turned around as best as you could with Mal’s arm still around your shoulder.

“You coming to the Tourney game this Friday?”

“I wouldn’t miss Carlos and Jay playing for the world, and the whole team all the guys have been working really hard. I know you’ll do great too, Chad.”

“You do know I’m on the team too, right?”

“Oh… you are?”

“Forget it, Benny-Boo. Let her go to her class. She doesn’t care.” Audrey grabbed Ben’s arm.

“Just wanted to know if after the game you wanted to come out for ice cream with Chad, Audrey, and I.”

“Can Moetini and the VKs come along?”

“Yeah, totally. Bring whoever you want.”

You made a little hmph noise and turned back around to head to class. You, Evie, and Mal started to walk in a funny way where you cross your legs over the person next to you’s legs as you moved.

“So is that a yes?!” Ben yelled as you walked off.

“I’ll think about it!” You yelled back not even looking at him.

“Oh, this spell is going to be too easy,” Mal said as you and the VKs kept walking. You rolled your eyes as they all laughed.

“Are we sure we can we really do this?” Carlos asked.

You guys were in the dorms’ basement kitchen that was available for late night snacks. Mal had found a recipe for love potion cookies.

“No, we are not but do we have a choice?” Mal stirred the batter.

“A love potion though? Is it even going to work? Do I really have to do it?”

“If it makes you feel better just think of it as a little booster, (Y/N). Ben’s already in love with you, we’re just helping it move quicker.”

“He’s not in love with me.”

“And I’m not MVP on the tourney team,” Jay piped up.

“He’s not in love with me you guys. He has a girlfriend. And, furthermore, I’m not in love with him. We’re friends.”

The VKs said nothing but you could tell from their faces that they didn’t believe you. You petted Dude’s head and slumped down a little. They were seeing things, things that weren’t there. There was nothing between you and Ben.

“Anyway, we need a tear. A real, sad one.”

“Okay, so let’s chop up an onion and get you a tear,” Carlos said.

“We need a tear of human sadness. This potion’s the best reviewed. We’re following it exactly.”

“A tear’s a tear.” Jay chimed in.

“Actually, no.” Evie handed Mal the bag of flour. “They both have antibodies and enzymes but an emotional tear has more protein-based hormones than a reflex.”

“Well, look at you.”

Evie smiled proud of herself. Just then, Lonnie strolled in looking for a late night snack. Everyone scrambled to look natural as Mal tried hide her spell book under the egg carton.

“Oh hey guys. Mal, all the girls want you to do their hair! Midnight snack, too?” Lonnie looked at the bowl of cookie dough. She stuck a finger in to grab a bite before the VKs could stop her. Jay took this as his opportunity to try and flirt with her.

“Hey, there.”

“Umm, hi?”

You snorted. Sometimes, watching Jay fail at one of the things he did best was oddly comical. There was something satisfying about seeing a girl not fall for the charm, it also meant that you really needed that tear for the potion to work.

“Do you think it’s missing something?” Mal asked Lonnie.

“Could use some chips?”

“Chips?”

“Chips. Like chocolate chips. Like your mothers would make when you were feeling down about the world?” Lonnie couldn’t help but shed a tear as she realized they didn’t have it easy on the Isle. Mal quickly wiped her tear and plopped it in the batter.

“We’ll be fine Lonnie, thanks for stopping by. Don’t forget your snack! Evil Dreams.”

“Oop, almost forgot. Thanks. See you guys tomorrow. Don’t stay up too late.” And with that Lonnie left the five of you to finish making the love potion cookies.

“Let’s hurry up before another person comes in.”

“Agreed.”

You opened and shut your scissors multiple times close enough to his head that Ben could hear it. The noise made him duck and shut his locker, making you laugh.

“I wasn’t joking when I said keep those things away from me. I don’t need any more of your design ideas.”

You belted the scissors.

“I thought you liked the shorts I made?”

“I can just buy shorts if I really want some.”

“But you know what you can’t buy?”

“I’m both excited and scared to find out the answer to your question.”

“Tada!” You held up the bag of Mal’s chocolate chip cookies.

“Not tarts? I’m shocked.”

“Not tarts but definitely hot sauce free, I promise. Royal promise. It’s a pre-game snack.”

“Oh, royal promise, she means business… but I’m not really supposed to eat sweets before our big games.”

You looked over Ben’s shoulders to see the other VKs watching. Watching you fail.

“Can’t break the rules even a little bit? You know you want one.”

“I mean, yes, I do. But, no can. I really shouldn’t before the game, hence the ice cream afterwards which you still haven’t given me a reply to.”

“Yeah, I’m coming. So are the others.”

“Awesome. See you afterwards, then. Sorry ‘bout the cookies. I’ll try some next time.”

“Yeah, see you later loser.”

“You too, punk.”

You walked over the small distance to Mal’s locker where the others were waiting giving you questioning looks. You just shrugged your shoulders.

“I mean, what were we thinking, (Y/N)! He would never eat the cookies!” Mal said obnoxiously loud.

“What are you doing?” you whisper-yelled.

“Yeah, (Y/N). Someone probably warned him about constantly accepting sweets from a villain kid!” Carlos chimed in.

You finally caught on, this seemed so trivial. You spoke up loud enough so Ben could hear.

“Yeah, you’re right guys. Every Auradon parent probably teaches them that. It was only a matter of time before they stopped accepting my tarts.”

“It’s okay! We’re here for you, (Y/N)! We’ll eat them if you like!” Mal yelled.

She smiled at you and you could only assume that meant Ben was coming up behind you. It actually worked?

You pulled out the cookie from the bag, pretending to get ready to eat it. Ben appeared right behind you, putting a hand on your waist to balance himself as he grabbed the cookie from you and took a huge bite.

“See, it has nothing to do with trusting you. I meant it about the game, oh wow this is really good, it’s so chewy so, so… (Y/N)… have you always had such pretty eyes?”

“How you feeling, bro?” Jay whispered in Ben’s ear.

Ben was staring intensely into your eyes and it made you want to divert your attention elsewhere. He smiled at you.

“I feel… I feel like singing your name, Heart!” Ben yelled. Jay shushed him.

“I think it worked,” you said wide-eyed as you took the cookie from Ben’s hand and put it back in the Ziploc bag.

i am too dumb to tell if this is a joke ask so i will respond seriously :) tekkon kinkreet is my favorite manga in the world and a strong contender for my favorite comic in general. it is 33 chapters long and ran in the early 90s, was cancelled and wrapped up early, and later became a cult classic partially due to an equally cult film adaptation.

short summary of what it's about will be as following: it's a partially surreal story about two homeless children trying to fight back against the gentrification of their neighborhood, with themes of growing up, duality, and love. the plot digs into that slow gradual destruction and the impact it has on the cast as things gets progressively worst for both kids

tekkon is a bittersweet story that is weirdly human in it's tone and stakes, with a cast of more or less savory marginals all entangled together by what they feel about the grimy, labyrinthine & quaint old neighborhood at the center of the plot. due to the surreal aspect of the storytelling it's very open to interpretation and from experience people usually tie what they think of it to how it personally touched them, what resonated the most. most people akin it to childhood memories or long gone places and the feeling of loss in general. i myself was really moved by how it handles mental problems, with one of the main characters being (as i interpret it, it's never said outright) my favorite depiction of an autistic character in anything i've read. in general the author's works all showcase extreme kindness towards it's characters, who tend to be social outcasts or children or in tekkon's case, both

manga and movie both have different art style which are in my opinion gorgeous and stand out in animanga by how unique they are. that the film went for a fully new art style is a bonus. look at my boys go

Anime Girls in The Real World

Today we take a break from the usual on-the-pechka programming to bring you something of an art exhibition. Anime girls, the ideal unattainable female forms of the 21st century, get engraved into existing images of the real world the same way the Greeks used to engrave women into pots and vases.

Like most artworks of this kind, the above two are of unknown origin, and their earliest appearances on the internet are on community based websites. Why anyone would create art without a profit incentive is beyond me; it’s not like people have an innate drive to express themselves or anything. This next one was tweeted by the mangaka behind “Rent-a-Girlfriend”. Terrible manga, but he nails this genre:

The next few pieces will be from perhaps the only prominent artist in this niche, Mikhail Bersenyov. Right now Bersenyov is the sole active contributor on “MS INSANITY”, a VK page that most likely lies at the roots of this movement. If you were going to ask why so many of these artworks are set in Russia, there’s your answer. "MS INSANITY” is not responsible for all artworks of anime girls in Russian settings, but because they popularized the genre many follow the trend.

One thing I want to point out about Bersenyov’s work is that it is meant to depict mundane, every day Russian settings not for the novelty of being Russian, but simply because to the artist, as well as the bulk of his following, that is what every day life looks like. A Western copycat is easy to spot because they misunderstand the point and just put an anime girl in front of a half demolished soviet building. The Westerner is intrigued by Bersenyov’s work because they see Russia as a third world shithole and the perfect beautiful anime girl as an interesting contrast against it. Bersenyov’s intended audience enjoys his work because of the artist’s stated “fantasy come to life” motif. One has to have spent at least some significant portion of their life in a former Soviet country to fully appreciate Bersenyov.

Next, a few artworks by RNVNN, the artist who, according to Bersenyov, is responsible for many of the “MS INSANITY” classics, and played a pivotal role in developing the page:

Okay those last two are not that bad, but they are in an entirely different category than the rest of the artworks shown in this exhibition. It’s not like I KNOW Americans made them either. To be honest sometimes I just come on here and make stuff up.

So what is the appeal of this art? It is hard to describe, but something about these artworks looks like an image from a dream. This genre is also kind of like Haruki Murakami’s books, because being profoundly miserable really adds to the experience. I suppose I am getting to that age where I no longer care for breaking everything down and analyzing the pieces. I’m done rationalizing art. I dare you to look at these images and not feel anything. Idiot. Stay sigma.
