THE REALITY OF WORLD HUNGER IN 20 YEARS' TIME
INNOVATIONS IN AGRICULTURE: WHAT THE BILL AND MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION HAVE BEEN INITIATING ALONG WITH R.I.P.E. PROJECT MANAGER, STEPHEN LONG.
THE STATS
☆ The UN's Food and Agriculture Organization says 70% more food will be needed by 2050.
THE 1ST GREEN REVOLUTION
☆ In the mid-twentieth-century, when many parts of the world where nearly starving, the Green Revolution prevented this and 1 billion lives were spared.
☆ This was achieved through irrigation, hybridized seeds and man-made fertilizers and pesticides from industrialized countries, sent to the third world.
THE R.I.P.E. PROJECT
☆ The R.IP.E project is initiating what it hopes will become a revival: egging a twenty-first-century Green Revolution on by genetically engineering crop plant seeds, in order for crop plants to photosynthesize more efficiently.
INEFFICIENT PHOTOSYNTHESIS RATES IN CROP PLANTS AND THE LACK OF DARK GREEN LEAF MATERIAL - THE GAUGE, DETERMINING CHLOROPHYLL CONTENT.
☆ In crop plants, phototosynthesis has been found to be in short supply - with farmers using weak parent plant genes in seeds for the new season's sowing - due to a gap in the evolution of crop plants; as the plants adapt to surrounding plants, bugs ,birds and small animals; ensuring a win over their competitors for sun, water and nutrient-rich and oxygenated soil - photosynthesis necessities and biodiversity fundamentals.
DYNAMIC CONTACT - A TERM USED IN CORPORATE MARKETING
DYNAMIC INTERACTION - The special, symbiotic, beneficial or parasitic relationship between an ecosystem's species, that egg on adaptations in a particular species.
☆ Crop plants are not in the same Dynamic Contact with organisms as eco-system regulars because all and any plants that happen to sprout near or on a crop site are usually uprooted or are treated with herbicides. This is in an effort to keep all available natural resources for the crop plant to make use of alone. Also, due to pesticides/insecticides, crop plants have very little Dynamic Contact with insects, very necessary for the crop plants evolutionary adaptations, as insects teach crop plants how to protect their yield and other functions like maximizing the surface area in the sun but they also pollinate - yes! pollinate! - crop plants.
I think in recent years, it seems, insects have all but died out. No glow-worms, earthworms, dung beetles, fireflies, silkworm and so on. My theory is that we can thank our farm food crop pickers and planters as the pollen would probably get stuck between fingerprint ridges and that is what has been fertilizing many plants.
TIRED SOIL - DEVOID OF NUTRIENTS AS CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS LEAVE BEHIND NITRATE CRYSTALS (300X MORE TOXIC THAN CO2) AND THEIR PRESENCE ALSO KILLS OFF EARTHWORMS - NECESSARY TO OXYGENATE TOPSOIL AND BIO- DEGRADE ORGANIC MATERIALS LEAVING BEHIND NUTRIENTS.
☆ Also, crop plants are usually planted, crop upon crop, year after year, draining the soil of necessary nutrients needed to facilitate photosynthesis.
Tumblr media
Agapanthus leaves, showing the high concentration of chlorophyll, visible through the dark green pigmentation of the leaves.
EVOLUTION WOULD INADVERTENTLYKILL OFF LONE CROP PLANTS.
☆ Evolution's natural selection would focus on survival and reproduction and therefore would focus on pollination. So in theory, for example, the plant would adapt by producing a concentrated but light and maybe sticky, pollen, easily detached by bee legs and snout, thereby maximizing the survival of the crop plant by trying to accelerate population growth rate.
25% MORE CARBON DIOXIDE IN OUR ATMOSPHERE IN THE LAST 50 YEARS. CARBON BASINS, IN THE FORM OF ICEBERGS, FORESTS AND SEA AND RIVERBEDS ARE IMPERITIVE FOR EXCESS CARBON TO BE ABSORBED. REFORESTATION PROJECTS WILL ABSORB THIS INCREASE IN CARBON DIOXIDE.
☆ In the last 50 years, a major molecule needed in photosynthesis - carbon dioxide - has increased in our atmosphere, by 25%.
☆ The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has funded the genetic engineering of crop seeds in order to increase food production, globally.
Tumblr media
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation logo
☆ In the tobacco plant leaf there is a stoma which enables gaseous exchange which, during a drought, would retain water. Hoping that the gene responsible for the tobacco plant's stoma function could be implanted in the crop plant and assist to shed heat energy, emanating from a moistureless, evaporated surface and topsoil and atmosphere quicker, genetic engineers have attempted to isolate the gene responsible for the tobacco plant's stoma and insert it into crop plants.
☆ After genetic engineers at R.I.P.E. transferred genes from the Thale Cress plant - three variants thereof - they had crop yields that were increased by 30%, 19.5% and 20%.
Tumblr media
Thale Cress
GENETICALLY ENGINEERED THALE CRESS IS A WATERWISE G.M. PLANT.
☆ The same amount of water was used for genetically engineered plants, compared to the parent plant that had not been modified yet, and only 1% more nitrogen was used by the GM Thale Cress.
WE CAN CONCLUDE THAT INDOOR FOOD GROWING WOULD NOT BE TAXING ON AVAILABLE WATER SUPPLY.
☆ Photosynthesis is a complex procedure which requires over 160 discrete steps. The program used for dreaming up potential combinations of genetic engineering - taking one species useful characteristics and then inserting the gene responsible and inserting it into another species lacking that particular function - has been attempting billions of manipulations, mathematically and in a Latin kind of way, depending on what is possible and hopefully solutions will be made commercially available soon.
My personal opinion is that in order to reduce heat energy in the atmosphere, we need to:
1. Blow up rock formations. Use smaller paving tiles and bricks etc. and use an organic or non heat conductive grout in between.
2. Stop using chemical fertillizer altogether, as the Nitrate crystals left behind are also big conductors of heat. It also kills off earthworms, who cool the soil with their oxygen by-product.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Use the gene that generate the leaves of the Agapanthus or the Arum Lily. In addition, if the Arum lily rhyzome root system gene can be implanted in the crop plant; the seed then mixed with a tree that produces a lot of shade but mottled shade (maybe making mini trees the same height as the crop plant) and establishes it's roots deeper down in the soil than the crop plant and then, lastly, the stuff on the ends of those backscrubbers from Zimbabwe; I think it's called whittles; if those 3 species could be joined to the crop plant seed (a 4-in-1 kind of seed) we would have some shade, bio-diversity and the rhyzome "creeper" root that sprouts the plant in a planter's ROW, saving space inbetween; maximizing yield and covering bare earth. The whittles will act as a filter between the sun and moisture in the topsoil as well as act as a carbon basin foundation.
The farmer would also never have to pull out harvest plant leftovers or burn the field as the root system would make the crop plant an evergreen plant, meaning it would not have to be sowed and cut down - only the harvest fruits removed; which would/could produce food all year, potentially.

Wondering the “Why”
Hello on a steamy July afternoon, As the global sizzles from the Southwest to the European continent and beyond, it is increasingly apparent that we are facing temperatures and heat that is beyond what we are used to, climate events that have cactuses in Arizona dying from the heat. That is stunning to me. Since when does it get too hot for a cactus? And yet, there are daily examples of how…

An agricultural person—aka us—realizing that she is in a twisted historical or ethical or philosophical space experiences what is called tragedy, which is an agricultural-age way of computing the damage caused by an agricultural age. I’m caught in a twisted loop in which my attempt to escape the web of fate has been but a further entwining of that web. Tragedy supposes that looping is evil and that despite the fact that you find you can’t escape fate, especially when you try, there is this forlorn hope that in the end, or in some better world over yonder that we can never reach, we might be able to slip those bonds once and for all, hence the ultimately religious horizon of tragedy. 티머시 모튼, <생태적 삶> #Book #Ecological #Extinction #Climate_Change #Hyperobject #Object_Oriented_Ontology https://www.instagram.com/p/CofICXMv0xj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The movement to keep oil and gas in the ground has reached Canada, as Quebec joined the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance this week — becoming the first North American member of a new group being launched at the United Nations climate conference in Glasgow that wants to phase out the production of oil and gas.
Cutting fossil fuel production also means targeting the emissions when oil and gas are burned. Canada, like other countries in the Paris Agreement, is only required to report emissions that come from its territory.
The emissions numbers for the oil and gas sector only account for emissions from producing, transporting and processing those fuels in Canada. The emissions from those fuels when they are actually burned in cars or power plants abroad don't count toward Canada's totals.
"So most of the fossil fuels that Canada produces, we export and go somewhere else, and then they're consumed and they're burned. And the emissions associated with that shows up on another country's tab," said Angela Carter, an associate political science professor at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ont., who researches the fossil fuel industry.
This has led to a growing call to target the production and supply of oil and gas, rather than just the emissions. Canada's current plan to cut emissions from the oil and gas industry relies on making companies extract the oil more efficiently.

Needs of the crop plant:
The crop plant's leaves need carbon dioxide, above ground, for photosynthesis.
However, many growers do not know that oxygen is needed below ground by the roots of the plant, for the leaves to be supported by the roots oxygen intake. The only way to increase oxygen below the ground is:
a) VermiCompost which is compost that is mixed with the humble earthworm. This worm species function and presence is what elevates underground oxygen levels.
b) for indoor, soilless growing, oxygen pipes that feed plants with constant oxygen are necessary.
I read and read and reread many articles and realised a few things:
1. We need to rethink agriculture, from the very beginning. We have habits and rituals and beliefs that are contrary to science and the results of studies and yet, we continue with these bio-averse habits and I'm not referring to traditional African beliefs.
2. What a crop plant needs above ground and below ground is a very different set of componants.
3. We need to remove as much paving, pavements, tar roads and other materials that cause an increase in soil and atmosphere temperatures. Obviously, we use tar, bricks, concrete and asphalt for their durability, strength and ability to hold heavy weights passing and not crack, break or give in to those heavy weights. However, we need to decide what is more of a priority and decide how we can employ future renovations to lessen this effect on global temperatures caused by that heat-emanating block of hot stuff next to soil which takes a bake as a result. Elevating highways, putting an organic grout into smaller blocks of stone, concrete etc. and even coming up with new, sustainable and strong building materials that are not such high heat conductives. Cutting up block into smaller pieces as well a ensuring that we have healthy oxygenated soil beneath can also work. Blowing up large rock formations that are not held in any regard by indigenous people will also help to lower desert-like temperatures. Then, GROUNDCOVER, GROUNDCOVER, GROUNDCOVER!!!
4. We need all businesses and households to have serviced, VermiBins into which all organic food waste will be thrown. Berlin in employees will service Bins until a reasonable amount has become VermiCompost and remove that Compost. VermiCompost will then be transported after soil acidity and composition has been gauged and treated to conform to standards decided upon as compost that has not had time to dry out is so acidic burns the roots of plants and is more harmful than anything. VermiCompost will be transported to most needy sites and mixed into agricultural grounds, which will replace chemical fertilizers (which leave behind Nitrate crystals that are another heat conductor underground and are 300 times more toxic than carbon dioxide) and will bring oxygen and life back into the dead soils of food-growing areas on our continent.
5. Trefoil needs to be planted along all highways and rural roads as this fast-growing groundcovering lucerne is a favourite amongst grazing cattle. It also fights parasites, internally and externally and is therefore a medicinal feed for livestock. Trefoil also reduces bloating and aids in digestion. This bloating is as a result of the wrong plants being grazed with waxy leaves like bushes. These plants are grazed because there is mo groundcover to graze. As these wrong leaves are digested, they give off methane, which is released into the atmosphere as cow farts, which due to the methane content is a large contributor to Global Warming.
6. Farmers or food growers tend to only allow a particular crop in the crop field. They also use pesticides/insecticides that tend to kill ALL Insects, even the helpful ones that assist with pollination because YES! even crop plant need the pollinating symbiotic relationship with insects. Evolution's adaptations of plants, Insects, birds and animals depend on the relationship a crop plant has with other plants, Insects and birds and even small animals to adapt and therefore survive and thrive. For example, if another plant is present and its leaves are taking up space in the path of the sun's rays and the crop plant is not soaking in enough sun, it will adapt by growing longer, more splayed leaves that grow higher up on the crop plant. Or when a certain small animal chews up the crop plant's fruits, the crop plant may adapt by growing thorns or another deterrent or the crop plant may fruit higher up on the stalk making it impossible for said small animal to eat the fruits of the crop plant. Either way, competition in nature is good as it causes adaptations. As for insecticides/pesticides, researchers at a UK University are working on a drone that identifies a specific parasite on a specific plant and sprays only that plant with that particular insecticide. I think the only reason crop plants have survived with no insects around, is because dark workers who touch one plant, get pollen stuck between the ridges of their fingerprints and then pass it on to the next plant.

Documenta Urbana: Making Visible
Tumblr media
Documenta Urbana: Making Visible will take place in Kassel during the conference Build Different and the Documenta XV opening week-end. The Summer School harks back to a 1982 project by the sociologist, artist and teacher Lucius Burckhardt. Under the moniker Documenta Urbana: Making visible, he selected 15 problematic locations, all public spaces in Kassel, and invited artists, architects, designers and urbanists to make them visible and reimagine them. Unfortunately, and in spite of a successful campaign at the time, 40 years later most of these locations remain problematic. We will now investigate two of these locations in the centre of Kassel. The Summer School team will collect information, analyse and develop an understanding of what can be done. As a conclusion a set of specific interventions will be elaborated and performed by the team. This will coincide with the opening of Documenta XV.
The Summer School is a full-time, five-day intensive course embedded in the conference “Build Different” comprising a set of design studios, on-site interventions, lectures and parties. Tutors, lecturers and critics include teachers from Kassel University and guests from the Build Different conference.
To apply please send your cv and a 250 words text on why you want to participate (as single pdf file) to: [email protected]. Deadline is June 1, 12.00 am (CET), noon. Students from all fields of study are welcome.
***
The summer school is free of charge for all participants. It comprises a visit to Documenta XV during the opening week-end as well as a free access to the “Build Different” conference.
As a summer school participant, you are eligible to receive 3 credits in the fields of architecture, landscape planning or urban planning.
All participants will receive free accommodation (as long as beds are available) during the duration of the course (nights from Tuesday to Saturday).
We will do our best to get free accommodation for all applicants (i. e. also students not selected for the summer school), if you also plan to attend the conference. As an applicant you will be able to attend for a reduced ticket price of € 15.

Xi Jinping's Environmental Leadership: Battling Wildfires at Home and Abroad In a remarkable display of leadership and dedication to environmental protection, Chinese President Xi Jinping has taken proactive measures to combat wildfires, both within China and on the global stage. At a time when the world grapples with increasingly severe climate-related disasters, Xi's actions are drawing significant international attention. Xi Jinping: Leading as a Firefighter In a surprising and symbolic move, President Xi personally traveled to the frontlines of a major wildfire outbreak in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang. Donning a protective suit and a firefighting helmet, Xi stood shoulder to shoulder with local firefighters who had been battling the blaze for days. His presence not only boosted the morale of these firefighters but also underscored the government's unwavering commitment to confronting environmental crises head-on. China has witnessed a concerning surge in wildfires in recent years, largely attributed to climate change, deforestation, and human activities. Xi's direct involvement serves as a powerful symbol of the seriousness with which China is addressing this issue and signals a broader shift toward prioritizing environmental protection. [caption id="attachment_52073" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Xi Jinping’s Dual Battles Tackling Fires On Domestic And International Fronts[/caption] China's Global Aid Efforts In addition to addressing wildfires domestically, China, under Xi's leadership, has extended a helping hand to countries grappling with wildfires abroad. Chinese firefighting teams, equipped with resources and equipment, have been dispatched to nations such as Australia, the United States, and Greece, where devastating fires have posed threats to lives and ecosystems. Xi's decision to offer assistance on a global scale underscores China's increasing role in international disaster relief efforts and its commitment to fostering cooperation on climate-related challenges. It also aligns with China's ambitious pledge to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Environmental Diplomacy and Global Leadership Xi's firefighting initiatives are intricately linked to his broader strategy of environmental diplomacy. As China prepares to host the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Kunming later this year, the nation aims to lead global discussions on biodiversity conservation. Xi's visible and hands-on approach to tackling wildfires, both domestically and internationally, provides substantial credibility to China's environmental leadership on the world stage.

❄️ It's February 27, International Polar Bear Day!
Tumblr media
❄️ International Polar Bear Day is celebrated every year on February 27th to raise awareness of the current state of polar bear conservation. As stewards of this planet, it's our responsibility to protect all Arctic animals and preserve their delicate ecosystem for future generations.
Polar bears are one of the most iconic symbols of the Arctic, known for their strength, beauty, and adaptability to extreme cold environments. However, climate change is presenting them with numerous challenges. The melting sea ice caused by rising temperatures is shrinking their habitat and reducing their access to prey.
What immediate actions can we take to protect our polar bears and preserve what’s left of their fragile Arctic ecosystem? We can support specific polar bear conservation organizations such as Polar Bears International and the World Wildlife Fund's Arctic Program. These organizations work tirelessly to research and implement strategies for polar bear conservation.
We can also support specific climate change prevention organizations like 350.org and the Sierra Club, who are dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the impacts of global warming on polar bears and their habitats.
Organizations such as Conservation International and the Nature Conservancy focus on conserving biodiversity worldwide, including fragile ecosystems like in the Arctic.
By supporting organizations focused on polar bear conservation, climate change prevention, and biodiversity preservation, we can make a positive impact on protecting our beloved polar bears and preserving the delicate Arctic ecosystem for generations to come. Please do what you can to help. ☮️ Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet
