#communist manifesto daily
Text
Reading theory can be hard.
But there's no reason we can't make it easier.
The goal of this blog is to slowly post bits of the Communist Manifesto, written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, as accessibly as possible, to maximize the number of people reading it.
Currently I am focusing on the Manifesto itself, and excluding the preface, end notes, and other miscellaneous texts contained within the publication available here (though with enough interest I may end up posting these as well).
The text itself will be reformatted to Tumblr's native post editor, and split into about 600-700 words per post. (At 250 words per minute, it's just under a 3-minute read.) Footnotes will be placed next to relevant sentences and passages for improved readability.
The focus of this is making the text as accessible as possible. If anyone has any suggestions on additional aids, please let me know and I'll see if I can incorporate the suggestions into the posts before they go up.
Posting is slated to start on March 6th, with updates on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11 PM EST.

On this day, 21 February 1936, Korean anarchist Shin Chae-ho died in prison. He and his partner had been arrested by Japanese colonial police and he was sentenced to 10 years' hard labour for belonging to a secret organisation. Shin had been Korea's most prominent journalist, writing for Hansong News and Dae Han Daily, and he drafted the Korean Revolutionary Manifesto put out by the Band of Heroes anti-colonial combat organisation. Shin's writings highlighted the relationship between destruction and creation: "The revolutionary path begins at destruction, thus opening up new ways for progress. However, revolution does not stop at destruction. There can be no destruction without construction; no construction without destruction… In the mind of the revolutionist, these two are indivisibly linked: destruction, ergo construction". Shin was also well known for his idiosyncrasies. For example he was known to wear, at least occasionally, women's underwear, as he thought it was "beautiful". And when he washed his face, he would always end up splashed with water. When asked why this happened, he responded: "Because I refuse to lower my head for anyone till the day I die!" Shin was eventually arrested while trying to set up and Oriental Anarchists League with individuals in Beijing and Manchuria, which was also under Japanese occupation. In 1945, Shin's comrades in Shanghai set up a publishing house called the Shin Chae-ho Study School, publishing historical and theoretical works until it was shut down by the Communist Party government in 1949. here’s all the useful/random things i’ve found on the internet in one place (i’ll also be updating this from time to time to add new stuff)
piracy:
(btw make sure to AT LEAST have a few ad blockers before u start pirating and if u can get a vpn)
nikfilecabinet — their entire account has a lot of useful shit ive just mostly used their piracy section
does the dog die — u can look up triggers that are in movies/tv shows (not directly related to piracy but though id throw it in here anyway)
books:
communist manifesto — it like 50 pages just read it
stone butch blues —
it is frequently discussed as a difficult yet essential work for LGBT communities, as it "never shies away from portraying the anti-Semitism, classism, homophobia, anti-butch animus, and trans-phobia that protagonist Jess Goldberg faced on a daily basis—but it also shows the healing power of love and political activism."
fucking trans women — (cw for lots of nudity obviously)
a zine by trans women, about the sex lives of trans women. It is an educational and instructional tool as much as it is a creative exploration of how we have sex.
all animorphs books — kids are able to morph into animals and have to save the planet or something idk i haven’t finished the first book yet
spanish for beginners — speaks for itself
an indigenous peoples history of the us —
it describes and analyzes a four-hundred-year span of complex Indigenous struggles against the colonization of the Americas
electronic furby manual — a l l h a i l f u r b y s
misc:
native languages — they have lots of reliable info on native things and links to tribal sites
scarleteen — they have articles on tons of important things relating to sex ed, including things on queer sex, stuff relating to being trans/intersex, having sex while disabled/having a disabled partner, safe sex, consent, u get the picture
mending/fixing/taking care of clothes — they also have stuff about “upgrading” clothes (remaking, resizing, etc.) (also i got this from this twt thread that has other stuff too if u wanna check it out)

Nonfiction Recommendations: Jewish American Heritage Month
Black, White and Jewish by Rebecca Walker
The Civil Rights movement brought author Alice Walker and lawyer Mel Leventhal together, and in 1969 their daughter, Rebecca, was born. Some saw this unusual copper-colored girl as an outrage or an oddity; others viewed her as a symbol of harmony, a triumph of love over hate. But after her parents divorced, leaving her a lonely only child ferrying between two worlds that only seemed to grow further apart, Rebecca was no longer sure what she represented. In this book, Rebecca Leventhal Walker attempts to define herself as a soul instead of a symbol—and offers a new look at the challenge of personal identity, in a story at once strikingly unique and truly universal.
Bad Jews by Emily Tamkin
What does it mean to be a Bad Jew? Many Jews use the term “Bad Jew” as a weapon against other members of the community or even against themselves. You can be called a Bad Jew if you don’t keep kosher; if you only go to temple on Yom Kippur; if you don’t attend or send your children to Hebrew school; if you enjoy Christmas music; if your partner isn’t Jewish; if you don’t call your mother often enough. The list is endless.
In Bad Jews, Emily Tamkin argues that perhaps there is no answer to this timeless question at all. Throughout American history, Jewish identities have evolved and transformed in a variety of ways. American Jewish history is full of discussions and debates and hand wringing over who is Jewish, how to be Jewish, and what it means to be Jewish. In this book, Emily Tamkin examines the last 100 years of American Jewish politics, culture, identities, and arguments. Drawing on over 150 interviews, she tracks the evolution of Jewishness throughout American history, and explores many of the evolving and conflicting Jewish positions on assimilation; race; Zionism and Israel; affluence and poverty, philanthropy, finance, politics; and social justice. From this complex and nuanced history, Tamkin pinpoints perhaps the one truth about American Jewish It is always changing.
Genius & Anxiety by Norman Lebrecht
In a hundred-year period, a handful of men and women changed the way we see the world. Many of them are well known—Marx, Freud, Proust, Einstein, Kafka. Others have vanished from collective memory despite their enduring importance in our daily lives. Without Karl Landsteiner, for instance, there would be no blood transfusions or major surgery. Without Paul Ehrlich, no chemotherapy. Without Siegfried Marcus, no motor car. Without Rosalind Franklin, genetic science would look very different. Without Fritz Haber, there would not be enough food to sustain life on earth.
What do these visionaries have in common? They all had Jewish origins. They all had a gift for thinking in wholly original, even earth-shattering ways. In 1847 the Jewish people made up less than 0.25% of the world’s population, and yet they saw what others could not. How? Why?
Norman Lebrecht has devoted half of his life to pondering and researching the mindset of the Jewish intellectuals, writers, scientists, and thinkers who turned the tides of history and shaped the world today as we know it. In Genius & Anxiety, Lebrecht begins with the Communist Manifesto in 1847 and ends in 1947, when Israel was founded. This robust, magnificent volume, beautifully designed, is an urgent and necessary celebration of Jewish genius and contribution.
People Love Dead Jews by Dara Horn
Renowned and beloved as a prizewinning novelist, Dara Horn has also been publishing penetrating essays since she was a teenager. Often asked by major publications to write on subjects related to Jewish culture—and increasingly in response to a recent wave of deadly antisemitic attacks—Horn was troubled to realize what all of these assignments had in common: she was being asked to write about dead Jews, never about living ones. In these essays, Horn reflects on subjects as far-flung as the international veneration of Anne Frank, the mythology that Jewish family names were changed at Ellis Island, the blockbuster traveling exhibition Auschwitz, the marketing of the Jewish history of Harbin, China, and the little-known life of the "righteous Gentile" Varian Fry. Throughout, she challenges us to confront the reasons why there might be so much fascination with Jewish deaths, and so little respect for Jewish lives unfolding in the present.
Horn draws upon her travels, her research, and also her own family life—trying to explain Shakespeare’s Shylock to a curious ten-year-old, her anger when swastikas are drawn on desks in her children’s school, the profound perspective offered by traditional religious practice and study—to assert the vitality, complexity, and depth of Jewish life against an antisemitism that, far from being disarmed by the mantra of "Never forget," is on the rise. As Horn explores the (not so) shocking attacks on the American Jewish community in recent years, she reveals the subtler dehumanization built into the public piety that surrounds the Jewish past—making the radical argument that the benign reverence we give to past horrors is itself a profound affront to human dignity.

The Luciferian United Nations
Starting with Helena Blavatsky.
“Lucifer represents... Life... Thought... Progress... Civilization... Liberty... Independence... Lucifer is the Logos... the Serpent, the Savior.”(‘The Secret Doctrine’ by Helena Blavatsky pages. 171, 225, 255, Volume II
)“It is Satan who is God of our planet and the only God” pages 215, 216, 220, 245, 255, 533, (VI)
“The Celestial Virgin which thus becomes the Mother of Gods and Devils at one and the same time: for she is the ever-loving beneficent Deity…but in antiquity and reality Lucifer or Luciferous is the same, lucifer is divine and terrestrial Light, ‘the Holy Ghost’ and “Satan” at one and the same time.” Page 539
Blavatsky was the founder of the Theosophical Society and was a major influencer of Alice A. Bailey.
Bailey, with her husband Foster started an official NGO within the UN called World Goodwill whose goal is to “cooperate in the world of preparation for the reappearance of Christ”. Bailey claims: “Evidence of the growth of the human intellect along the needed receptive lines [for the preparation of the New Age] can be seen in the 'planning' of various nations and in the efforts of the United Nations to formulate a world plan... From the very start of this unfoldment, three occult factors have governed the development of all these plans.” SOURCE: [Alice B. Bailey, Discipleship in the New Age (Lucis Press, 1955), Vol. II, p.35.]
“Within the United Nations is the germ and seed of a great international and meditating, reflective group - a group of thinking and informed men and women in whose hands lies the destiny of humanity. This is largely under the control of many fourth ray disciples, if you could but realize it, and their point of meditative focus is the intuitional or Buddhic plane - the plane upon which all hierarchical activity is today to be found.” [Ibid. p.220.]
Robert Muller, was an international civil servant with the United Nations. Serving with the UN for 40 years and rising to the rank of Assistant Secretary-General, his ideas about world government, world peace and spirituality led to the increased representation of religions in the UN, especially of New Age Movement. He was known by some as "the philosopher of the United Nations". He created at least 29 schools around the world earning him the UNESCO Peace and Education Prize in 1989. He is also known as the “father of global education.”
“The underlying philosophy upon which the Robert muller school is based will be found in the teachings set forth in the books of Alice A. Bailey (Lucis Trust is the Publishing House which prints and disseminates United Nations (UN) material. Lucis Trust was established in 1922 as Lucifer Trust by Alice Bailey as the publishing company to disseminate the books of Bailey and Madame Blavatsky and the Theosophical Society. Due to public outrage over the creepy name of the publishing company, it was changed one year later to Lucis Trust.)…The school is now certified as a United Nations Associated School providing for international cooperation and peace.” – Muller, R. World Core Curriculum (Preface)
“A world core curriculum might seem utopian today. By the end of the year 2000 it will be a down-to-earth, daily, reality in all the schools around the world.” R. Muller, A World Core Curriculum (n.p., n.d.), p. 13.
The Muller school is the education program for the world as will be enforced by the United Nations. He created the World Core Curriculum that is being seeped into education systems around the world by UNESCO, (search ibe.unesco.org) UNESCO’s vision from their page is “develops educational tools to help people live as global citizens free of hate and intolerance”. (in other words, one world education but through in the terms “hate and intolerance” to make it sound positive).
It’s first Director was Julian Huxley. Huxley was a member of the Communistic Colonial Bureau of the British Fabian Society, signer of the Humanist Manifesto II. An Evolutionist, and member/vice-president (1937-44)/president (59-62) of the British Eugenics Society, and not only a transhumanist but coined the phrase transhumanism.
Under Huxley’s guidance the UN created a “guidebook” for teachers. Within this guidebook the teachers are reminded that the first step to educating a child to be a World Citizen, is the DESTRUCTION of a child’s love of country and patriotism. (John A Stormer, None Dare Call It Treason, Florissant, Missouri: Liberty Bell Press, 1964 p.112)
In Volume V it reads, “In the classroom children under thirteen years of age: Before the child enters school, his mind has already been profoundly marked and often INJURIOUSLY, by earlier influences…first gained, however dimly, in the home.”
Also, “the kindergarten or infant school has a significant part to play in the child’s education. Not only can it correct many errors of home training, but it can prepare the child for membership, at about age seven, in a group pd his own age and habits – the first of many such social identifications that he must achieve on his way to membership in the World Society.”
(HEY, REMEMBER THAT TIME BIDEN SAID THAT WE HAD TO START SENDING OUR KIDS TO SCHOOL AT AN EARLIER AGE?)
-“As we have pointed out, it is the family that INFECTS the child with EXTREME NATIONALISM. The school should therefore use the means described earlier to COMBAT FAMILY ATTITUDES”
.-“In our view, history and geography should be taught at this age as UNIVERSAL history and geography… The study of history… raises problems of value which are better POSTPONED UNTIL the pupil is FREED FROM THE NATIONAL PREJUDICES which at present surround the teaching of history”.
UNESCO’s Constitution was written by Archibald MacLeish, a Skull and Bones member.
One of many organizations under UNESCO is SIECUS.
Within the SIECUS positions was this, “it is the position of SIECUS that contraceptive services should be available to all- including minors who should enjoy the same rights of free and independent access to…contraceptive care as do others…It is the position of SIECUS that the use of explicit materials (sometimes referred to as pornography) can serve a variety of important needs in the lives of countless individuals”. (Chronology of Education Quotable Quotes 1994 p.37.
(YOU SEE HOW THEY STARTED WITH SEX ED, THEN EVOLVED OVER TIME INTO GAY PORN AND TRANSKIDS WITH JACKED UP SENSE OF PRONOUNS?)
Now you may think this is ALL about a SECULAR N.O.W., you would be wrong.
In 1973, the UN Secretary U Thant formed the organization Planetary Citizens with NEW Activist Donald Keys.  An NGO within the UN specifically “devoted to preparing people for the coming of the new culture”.
Donald Keys was actively involved with the Findhorn Community in Scotland. He writes, “The New Age groups are focusing and enter a new stage- a world related stage. They are becoming mature enough to begin to shoulder some of the load of humanities burdens… The spread of the New Age values as a unifying “yeast” in the human loaf may be the critical ingredient for successful emergence from the 1980’s onward.”
Findhorn books are slam full of New Age occultic speech, doctrine, and symbols.
Their spokesman was once David Spangler, (I say once because Spangler seems to be scrubbed from their works along with ties to the UN, and he wasn’t the only on I found like this).David Spangler is quoted, “The true light of Lucifer cannot be seen though sorrow, through darkness, through rejection. The true light of this great being can only be recognized when one’s own eye in the inner sun. Lucifer works within each of us to bring us wholeness, and as we move into a New Age, which is the age of man’s wholeness, each of us in some way is brought to that point which I term the LUCIFERIAN INITIATION, the particular doorway, through which the individual must pass if he is to come “fully” into the presence of light and his wholeness…Lucifer comes to give us the final gift of wholeness”. David Spangler, Reflections on the Christ (Scotland, Findhorn Publications 1977 p.43-44). (THAT SOUNDS A LOT LIKE ALBERT PIKE AND MANLY P HALL)
This was almost a week worth of research, just in order to whittle it down to this short post. The amount of info, ties, and connections between occultism, nations, Rome, and politics, secret societies, and more was exhausting. There is so much more, going on for so long, and nothing is going to stop this. So wherever you are when it comes to God, this is where we are being led. Wherever you are when it comes to a political candidate, remember these things next time you hear them going on about the “issues Americans care about”. Because the whole time they have distracted us with borders, taxes, inflation, scandals, the size of a candidates hands, and on and on, this shit right here...has kept growing and growing like cancer. No one side talks about it because they all know. They are all a part of it, playing a role to distract each of us.

Geometry today was a pain and a half! I am almost positive the answer key was wrong for two sets of questions because I checked and rechecked my work and followed the examples exactly on the third check, and my answers always stayed the same. Sometimes this will happen as the textbooks might go through an edit but then the link to the answer key is an old link instead of the updated one. Besides, when I did the same type of questions on KA and in the second set on my assignment, doing it the same way I did in the first set, they were correct.
Still, persistence was getting aggravated. I should trust myself more when I know I am right instead of worrying that I did something wrong and have no realization of what that wrong could be because everything appears exactly how it should after multiple times solving the problem in different ways using the same formula.
Either way, I am glad to be done with school work for the day. I'm finishing up dinner now and then I can enjoy ballet tonight. Yes, it's disciplined and intense, but it's my safe space and where I find joy in my day. It's my study break.

The immediate aim of the Communist is the same as that of all the other proletarian parties: formation of the proletariat into a class, overthrow of the bourgeois supremacy, conquest of political power by the proletariat. The theoretical conclusions of the Communists are in no way based on ideas or principles that have been invented, or discovered, by this or that would-be universal reformer. They merely express, in general terms, actual relations springing from an existing class struggle, from a historical movement going on under our very eyes. The abolition of existing property relations is not at all a distinctive feature of Communism. All property relations in the past have continually been subject to historical change consequent upon the change in historical conditions. The French Revolution, for example, abolished feudal property in favour of bourgeois property. The distinguishing feature of Communism is not the abolition of property generally, but the abolition of bourgeois property. But modern bourgeois private property is the final and most complete expression of the system of producing and appropriating products, that is based on class antagonisms, on the exploitation of the many by the few. In this sense, the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property. We Communists have been reproached with the desire of abolishing the right of personally acquiring property as the fruit of a man’s own labour, which property is alleged to be the groundwork of all personal freedom, activity and independence. Hard-won, self-acquired, self-earned property! Do you mean the property of the petty artisan and of the small peasant, a form of property that preceded the bourgeois form? There is no need to abolish that; the development of industry has to a great extent already destroyed it, and is still destroying it daily. Or do you mean modern bourgeois private property? But does wage-labour create any property for the labourer? Not a bit. It creates capital, i.e., that kind of property which exploits wage-labour, and which cannot increase except upon condition of begetting a new supply of wage-labour for fresh exploitation. Property, in its present form, is based on the antagonism of capital and wage-labour. Let us examine both sides of this antagonism. To be a capitalist, is to have not only a purely personal, but a social status in production. Capital is a collective product, and only by the united action of many members, nay, in the last resort, only by the united action of all members of society, can it be set in motion. Capital is, therefore, not a personal, it is a social power. When, therefore, capital is converted into common property, into the property of all members of society, personal property is not thereby transformed into social property. It is only the social character of the property that is changed. It loses its class-character.
Let us now take wage-labour. The average price of wage-labour is the minimum wage, i.e., that quantum of the means of subsistence, which is absolutely requisite in bare existence as a labourer. What, therefore, the wage-labourer appropriates by means of his labour, merely suffices to prolong and reproduce a bare existence. We by no means intend to abolish this personal appropriation of the products of labour, an appropriation that is made for the maintenance and reproduction of human life, and that leaves no surplus wherewith to command the labour of others. All that we want to do away with, is the miserable character of this appropriation, under which the labourer lives merely to increase capital, and is allowed to live only in so far as the interest of the ruling class requires it. In bourgeois society, living labour is but a means to increase accumulated labour. In Communist society, accumulated labour is but a means to widen, to enrich, to promote the existence of the labourer.
- The Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx and Frederich Engels

Manifesto of the Communist Party
A spectre is haunting Europe – the spectre of communism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and Tsar, Metternich and Guizot, French Radicals and German police-spies.
Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as communistic by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?
Two things result from this fact:
Communism is already acknowledged by all European powers to be itself a power.
It is high time that Communists should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish their views, their aims, their tendencies, and meet this nursery tale of the Spectre of Communism with a manifesto of the party itself.
To this end, Communists of various nationalities have assembled in London and sketched the following manifesto, to be published in the English, French, German, Italian, Flemish and Danish languages.
I. Bourgeois and Proletarians*
* By bourgeoisie is meant the class of modern capitalists, owners of the means of social production and employers of wage labour. By proletariat, the class of modern wage labourers who, having no means of production of their own, are reduced to selling their labour power in order to live. [Engels, 1888 English edition]
The history of all hitherto existing society† is the history of class struggles.
† That is, all written history. In 1847, the pre-history of society, the social organisation existing previous to recorded history, all but unknown. Since then, August von Haxthausen (1792-1866) discovered common ownership of land in Russia, Georg Ludwig von Maurer proved it to be the social foundation from which all Teutonic races started in history, and, by and by, village communities were found to be, or to have been, the primitive form of society everywhere from India to Ireland. The inner organisation of this primitive communistic society was laid bare, in its typical form, by Lewis Henry Morgan's (1818-1861) crowning discovery of the true nature of the gens and its relation to the tribe. With the dissolution of the primeval communities, society begins to be differentiated into separate and finally antagonistic classes. I have attempted to retrace this dissolution in The Origin of the Family, Private Property, and the State, second edition, Stuttgart, 1886. [Engels, 1888 English Edition and 1890 German Edition (with the last sentence omitted)]
Freeman and slave, patrician and plebeian, lord and serf, guild-master‡ and journeyman, in a word, oppressor and oppressed, stood in constant opposition to one another, carried on an uninterrupted, now hidden, now open fight, a fight that each time ended, either in a revolutionary reconstitution of society at large, or in the common ruin of the contending classes.
‡ Guild-master, that is, a full member of a guild, a master within, not a head of a guild. [Engels, 1888 English Edition]
Our epoch, the epoch of the bourgeoisie, possesses, however, this distinct feature: it has simplified class antagonisms. Society as a whole is more and more splitting up into two great hostile camps, into two great classes directly facing each other – Bourgeoisie and Proletariat.
From the serfs of the Middle Ages sprang the chartered burghers of the earliest towns. From these burgesses the first elements of the bourgeoisie were developed.
The discovery of America, the rounding of the Cape, opened up fresh ground for the rising bourgeoisie. The East-Indian and Chinese markets, the colonisation of America, trade with the colonies, the increase in the means of exchange and in commodities generally, gave to commerce, to navigation, to industry, an impulse never before known, and thereby, to the revolutionary element in the tottering feudal society, a rapid development.

I think you'd love to listen to Victor Jara
Chile was one of the many countries touched by Kissinger's ghoulish hands. I just wanna take this moment as an excuse to encourage anyone, everyone, to listen to Victor Jara.
He was Chilean, he was an explicitly communist musician and poet, and he was killed by Pinochet's dictatorship for it; still, the brutal details of his execution are nothing next to how enduring his life's work still is, to the overflowing tenderness with which he sings about the lives of Chile's impoverished working class, their struggles, their love, their dreams.
Manifesto is one of his most well-known songs, being a very explicit and gorgeous explanation of how he views his work, and desperately moving in the context of it being one of the last things he ever sung before he was killed. It goes hand in hand with songs like Plegaria a un Labrador, (Prayer to a Laborer) where he incites worker solidarity and revolt in explicit terms, and, of course, El Derecho de Vivir en Paz, an anthem against the Vietnam war which became an rallying cry for intersectional struggle for the right to live in peace.
Cuando Voy al Trabajo (When I go to Work) is one of my favorites. Looking through the foggy bus window on your way to work alongside everyone else in the same boat as you, not knowing them, loving them. The harshness of the daily life of a worker intertwined with the tenderest yearning, for his beloved, and for something better. "Laboring the beginning of a story, without knowing the end."
Te Recuerdo Amanda (I Remember You, Amanda) shares this theme, and is also deeply moving. In his words, "it tells of a love between two impoverished workers… the same ones that you see on the streets sometimes without noticing what exists inside a soul. It's of two workers from any factory, in any city, in any place in our continent"
Luchin I can't listen to without bawling. It's just the softest vignette of a little kid in the rural south of Chile, making his own fun in that way kids like him do, always have. This live recording doesn't have the best subtitles, but it includes a small spoken intro, that just tears my heart apart. "If there are kids much like Luchin, eating worms and eating dirt, let's throw open every cage, for all of them to fly like birds."
And I could just... go on, and on, and on. Just. Listen to this little piece of my home, that is so very good. Help prove to his murderers that, at least for the span of a song, they failed.

last night I couldn't fall asleep and I kept thinking about if someone ran "communist manifesto daily" like dracula daily you know. like I see a lot of posts about people struggling to read theory and also a lot of posts about how you really SHOULD read theory if you want to have a discussion about it... and it's like I get that it's hard but I notice that I tend to read through most things on my dashboard even if it's on the long side... so then what if like I just put it in reasonable chunks on tumblr...

On this day, 15 January 1934, the popular UK tabloid the Daily Mail published an article called “Hurrah for the Blackshirts!” in support of Oswald Mosley's fascist movement. The article was written by Viscount Rothermere, who was an avid supporter of Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini, as well as Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party. Rothermere declared in the paper that the election of Nazi MPs "represent[ed] the rebirth of Germany as a nation". After the Nazi seizure of power, when democracy was abolished and many socialists and communists were sent to the concentration camps, Rothermere praised how "Under Herr Hitler’s control, the youth of Germany is effectively organised against the corruption of Communism.” Rothermere corresponded personally with Hitler, and met with him several times, and wrote approvingly of how the Nazis had dealt with Jewish people: “Israelites of international attachments were insinuating themselves into key positions in the German administrative machine… It is from such abuses that Hitler has freed Germany.” Rothermere's family still own the Mail, which today continues to advocate far right politics. For example in recent years they have attacked the National Health Service for distributing HIV medication, falsely claimed that a terrorist bomber was an LGBT+ activist, falsely claimed that most people trying to claim sickness benefits were faking it, criticised the National Trust for acknowledging the existence of gay people, falsely claimed that 10,000 people were trying to claim sickness benefits because they were "too fat", mocked gay marriage, made countless false claims about Muslim immigrants and much more. Daily Mail columnist Melanie Phillips was repeatedly quoted in the manifesto of Norwegian neo-Nazi terrorist Anders Brevik who murdered 77 people. Today, the Mail is the top-selling newspaper in the UK. Spider-Man Read-Through 008: Medusa and Mysterio
MASTERPOST
ASM 62-67
This entry's very compelling, but what a mess.
Tumblr media
In this first issue, Peter says that he has ~never fought a female before~.
*snickers* Oooh this is going to be a good one.
This Medusa attacks with her hair and is apparently part of the Inhumans.
...THOSE Inhumans?
Tumblr media
Oh Lord.
So she's there to test the Average Joe or something, which Peter definitely isn't.
Tumblr media
More importantly, someone has my name! Love his suit, less fond of his face. He's giving Magnus McGilded (real name) or whatever name you know him under (Cosney Megundal for me).
Tumblr media
See the likeness? To be fair, I dig the suit.
So Medusa's here for peace and giggles, but capitalism immediately rears its head and that blond guy above ask her to participate in a shampoo add. Which causes all sort of questions. How would she get paid? She doesn't have a human bank account (presumably), she doesn't care about human money (for now, presumably) and she sets up even more unrealistic standards for the human race (which. is interesting. there's something there. but anyway). And when McGilded/Bliss (...) offers to make a contract, she doesn't care and he's overjoyed. This story better hope it's a communist manifesto.
Tumblr media
Even with these panels, I can say Peter's a handsome guy.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile Osborn and Jameson are acting like an old married couple and I never thought I'd say this but it makes sense! Do they have a ship name? Osbon? Jamesorn? I'll listen to your suggestions!
Tumblr media
The source of Norman's internal conflict is that he's progressively remembering about the times he dressed in drag and was a queen of BDSM with young jock DILF-seeker Peter Parker as partner. Norman hasn't been slaying for a while, and it's time he dons the cloth once again!
Tumblr media
*snickers*
McGilded says he'll pay Medusa in fame, which is absolutely a scam, younglings, don't fall for it. She agrees with me and tells the producer to get rekt.
The producer motivates Peter to go fight Medusa fists first, questions later (which makes complete sense, remember when he fought the Human Torch?) and Peter has this to say:
"That's the trouble with women... they just can't keep their mouths shut!"
That is not very slay of you, Peter. Give back your woke badge, you're making me want to go read The Killing Joke.
By now, Peter begs every being he fights to not use up all his webbing, as it's very expensive. Peter, you sound like a broken record.
Tumblr media
Peter also accuses me, a respected member of the Homiesexual community, of being a liar. This is a hate crime.
In the end, Peter gets back at McGilded, but can't get his mind off Gwen. This issue is gold and we, commies of the 21st century, deeply appreciate it.
Tumblr media
This is a good thing, since the Vulture (apparently still alive) is going all Shadow the Hedgehog on us.
So here I was, enjoying a dark story about the Vulture avenging his name and Spidey having trouble with the rain when I was assaulted by an advertisement:
Tumblr media
This sent me in a deep dive: who was Donald O. Bolander?
"Donald O Bolander is the author of books such as Instant Synonyms and Antonyms."
Fascinating biography. Don is/was like that one author you subscribe to for one article, who spams you every week with incredibly boring newsletters, but you can never seem to get the courage to suppress them from your daily life. Somehow, they've become part of your waking hours.
We got a bit more information here if you're curious. Anyway, he died in 2010, but look at you, Donald. It's 2023 and you're still making an impact on our lives. Godspeed!
Anyway, Peter goes back home and goes to sleep in his drenched Spidey costume, which is probably bad but I can't say I ever had this specific experience so you do you. He can't fall asleep because his brain keeps acting up, and this is once again proof that Peter has ADHD, thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peter has internalized homophobia and thus can't ask Harry to give in to his urges and massage his back, but one other interesting thing happens: Vietnam.
So War on Vietnam has been mentioned a few times during these comics. It's not condemned, which is interesting because by 1968, there were definitely people speaking out against it. I think the writers might have wanted to speak out too, but weren't necessarily allowed to do so -- at least, not at that moment. I'm curious to see if the characters go against it.
Someone knocks, and it's Norman, who's considerably less nice than before. Repression!
Tumblr media
So that issue was a fun one, the final battle (Vulture vs Vulture vs Spider-Man) incorporated well both Peter's Spidey and civillian lives. I don't care for the Vulture, but the soap opera is great!
The Vulture's attack continues and Robbie Robertson gets a chance to appear, to my usual delight (although I haven't mentioned him until now, he's a reasonable figure in Peter's life and these are usually rare in these comics. In fact, he directly notices that Spidey mentions him by name and figures it's someone he knows. Good going!
Meanwhile MJ gets a dated haircut, Anna and May are still in love with each other, and Anna really thinks her niece's hair are too masculine. Aaah, the Sixties. Gwen still has her long hair and shows off her legs, so she's a much better candidate for a Parker romance, obviously. Gwen's father suddenly recovered from his memory loss - as is known to happen, see the previous arc - so everything's fine again between Peter and Gwen.
Peter uses his smarts and beats the Vulture, but falls unconscious in the street... Will he get unmasked?
I mean, I could absolutely see it, SM2-way.
It so happens that Papa Stacey is here and will *not* let anybody unmask his favorite hero in his presence. He says he wouldn't do it without a legal expert. I wonder what he means by that.
One character mentions it's election year, and I wonder if it's going to be a prominent storyline. Is Osborn mayor already? Is he going to become mayor? Hm.
At this point, both Peter and Norman have been absent for a while and I have to wonder if people thought they had eloped or something. A politician, having a secret relationship with a younger male? Never seen that before!
Tumblr media
Meanwhile MJ cameos to scare all of us. Is she in her Cats costume?
So Peter's in prison, he fakes helping prisoner so that he and Captain Stacey get out safely, but Spidey reaffirms his distrust in the legal system by saying that nope, he's not gonna wait for Stacey to testify to his innocence to leave prison. No way.
Tumblr media
What a chad.
In the next issue (66), Mysterio's back! Which is nice.
Tumblr media
I'm side-eyeing everyone who says TASM2 had too much going on.
Tumblr media
Afterwards, the Marvel editors try to figure out how to give fanservice while not summoning their cis male reader base's homophobia. So far, the results have been middling. Either stick to what you were doing before, or show us more skin!!!
Tumblr media
He loves dramatic entrances, and I'm here for them!
Tumblr media
However, Peter once again questions his character development. Uncle Ben's principles are nice and all, but Peter's starving and needs money.
At least, Peter and Gwen are finally together! That's nice to see, at last. They didn't kiss yet (due to the CCA? nah). At the coffee shop where they go, Robbie and Captain Stacey talk together and reassure themselves that their interest in Spider-Man is strictly professional (in bold in text, twice!!). These men are not doing anything to beat the allegations.
Meanwhile... the Goblin is back! Norman talks to himself and says that his son is "lily-livered" and I'm sure he'd use a gay slur if he was allowed to (he'd be right, but that's not the subject).
Afterwards, Peter finds back his aunt who's absolutely terrified by the telly, which is a Thing that May Does. She's ridiculously fragile, but she's also gay so I can't help but love her.
Here's a small tangeant: we've been seeing the No More outfit (yellow vest, blue pants) for a while now. It's nice to see continuity like that!
Tumblr media
So Peter's dead.
I mean. Not really. He's just miniaturized and placed in an amusement park. It's just like in Silent Hill 3! He has now a six inches............... size. Of course.
The visuals are very entertaining - Romita is creative.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Aunt May is with her ~dear friend Anna~, who takes care of her. Yeah, I'm sure.
Randy, Robbie's son is introduced! Didn't expect that, but I'm happy that Robbie gets some development. The regular (soap side) cast keeps getting bigger...
Tumblr media
Overall, it was a quite entertaining series of issues.
After a very entertaining fight, this issue - and post - ends on this. I had a vague feeling of déjà vu when I saw that, so I checked the cover and first page of the next issue and yeah - we're about to enter year 1969 and its Tablet storyline! I've read this one (as told in the masterpost) but I'll be curious to revisit it, especially as I don't recall the Goblin having any involvement.
But before we get there, we have three issues to read in the next post: Spectacular Spider-Man 1 & 2 + Annual 5.
Next time: Black-and-white pages?! :(
