Rage | Robber!Frank Castle x Male!R
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary - The burley “punisher” known for his menacing presence and crimes happened to stumble by your home…
A/N - A simple thought that became something more then it should of, although this has been sat in my drafts for weeks now, I just decided to leave it open, maybe a PT 2 if yall are interested idk…
The night was young.
You sigh, scribbling down notes, anything that came to mind to help with the current case “Murdock and Nelson” was handling.
A series of break-in’s littered the papers of Hell’s kitchen, the bastard had managed to wriggle himself from the grips of the N.Y.P.D, stalking the shadows of the night for his next victim.
Flopping back into your chair, the cushions helped relieve the strain between your shoulder blades from standing a while, bending over the desk that currently wasn’t visible, messy crumbled up balls of paper and yellow documents detailing the certain aspects fitting the onslaught of crime covering the varnished service.
The cool breeze of the city left you shivering and alone reminding you that the law firm you happened to call home for past couple of months was your intake of madness and the decent into a spiralling well of secludedness, you hadn’t had the time to truly enjoy the character Hell’s Kitchen was and will remain.
Once clasping the window shut, you stand, rubbing at your eyes, the tiredness that stuck to them like honey grew thick yet withstand-able, it was if the city was listening, creeping and sauntering, figuring you out, a loud clunk echo’s through your apartment, ringing from wall to wall.
You had guessed it was the stormy weather outside but curiosity killed the cat…didn’t it?
“Fuck-“
Ushering out profanities was your way of coping, taking course of a few steps, gradually making your way to the wooden frame of the door consoling the running thoughts swirling around in your fuzzy brain, you still before turning the bitter-cold handle.
It wasn’t a shock, it almost felt real, more then anything you had witnessed over the past coming months, there he stood, a tall burley man, broad shoulders and toned physique, dressed in all black and a ski mask to cover his identity.
Silence fell over the room but his confidence stood proud, his muscular arms falling to his side underneath the dim light the outside street lamps provided.
“I don’t want any trouble sir-“
You tremble at the thought of becoming his next victim, although he hadn’t killed, the offer still loomed over you like his figure. It wasn’t immediate but you had guessed something within him flicked like a light switch, he placed the bag he managed to fill with stolen goods, your goods, on the floor with the same clunk from before, moving himself closer until he began to invade your space.
“What…do-“
With the incapacity to speak, you stumble back into the wall, his brown hazel’s staring deeply, trying to figure you out. He huffed before licking at his dry lips, closing in on you like an animal with it’s prey, trapping you from a potential exit.
At first he huffed and puffed like the big bad wolf, eyes twitching and lips still, as intimidating as he was, curiosity did infact kill the cat. You waited, keeping your eyes trained on his own, watching for anything.
“You’re a little to curious for your own good”
His voice was low and growly like the worn-down roads of New York City, a shiver ran down the edge of your spine, tingly yet comforting, almost riveting. Although you had no plan of escape nor defense, you melt into the wall keeping you up right, he eyed you up, almost checking to see if you fit the checkbox he had granted himself.
“Are you saying…I gotta be careful from now on?”
You question, hands glued by your sides whilst his block you against the structure of the room. This wasn’t how you expected it to go nor is it how you expected him to be, in ways he seemed softer, almost sweet like your favourite candy dissolving on the tip of your tongue.
He nods confidently, quicker then you would have liked. You can’t help the shakes the ran through your body like a tumble dryer and clothes, eager to figure out what it was that he so desired from you but also to terrified to even speak another word.
“There’s a bad guy out there, he could hurt you, y’know?”
Was it a threat? Or was he simply taking his time? His voice had managed to make you calmer, although being the aggressor, you couldn’t help but reach out, placing a hand on his hard chest, trying anything to communicate.
“Please- please I don’t want this, I-“
Worrisome pleas seemed to do nothing as he stood, still blocking you. The glint in his eyes had changed from dangerous to lustrous within seconds as if he wasn’t here to steal anything but your innocence.
“Don’t you think you could learn a lesson or two?”
A warm hand cups the base of your throat, tightening until your breathing was short-circuited, restricting each intake until you faced him, watching as he tugged a smile onto his plump lips.
Pressing forward, you allow your hand to drop from his chest, his overwhelming presence shifting until his warm breath began to fan against the shell of your ear.
“Never disturb a man whilst he’s at work…”
He presses more firmly with his hand this time making you gasp, choking on the air that seemed to be invading the small space in your lungs. He chuckles before pulling away, essentially playing with his meat, doing everything and anything in his power to make you dumb and nonchalant.
“I- please”
Your ache prolonged, blossoming as you grew harder, he was tall, practically looming over you, closing in and eventually overshadowing you from the light, his burly body blocking you in. A single hand of his cup at one your cheeks, his thumb trailing against your bottom lip in attempts to quieten you.
“God your sweet ain’t ya…”
His mouth was vulgar, his smile stretching as you accept the thumb into your mouth, tongue rolling against the thick digit. Frank could feel himself twitch, it was unusual for his nightly escapades to go like this, it was uncommon for someone to be so inviting, non the less he was entirely enticed by the whole ordeal.
You groan once he pushes deeper, jabbing the palette of your throat causing you gag, tears pricking the corners of your eyes. He couldn’t deny how pretty you were like this which pushed him to pull his now slick digit back with a pop.
Frank doesn’t fight the urge to dip his head low enough to connect your lips, locking you within a searing kiss, one that left you both hungry for more. His tongue, long and wet, rolled smoothly against your own, the material of his disguise rubbing against your upper lip and the tip of your nose, giving enough friction to calm the storm.
It’s chaste and sweet much like he was trying to seduce you which had worked a little to well considering how dumb and weak you had gotten from one touch, one look.
Pulling away with a quick press of his lips, he looks hungrily downward, lips slightly red and lick from the sloppy snog. Still leaning one muscular arm against the wall just to the right above your head, he leans further into you, pressing all of his weight against your front.
That’s when you had felt it, thick and plump underneath his black cargo’s, he settled against your own slowly growing bulge, the continuous roll of his hips relieving the ache as you sigh, practically falling into his chest.
“Just one touch and yer’ dumb for me, for it, come on, show me what i’m missin’ sweetheart”
His hands wrap around your waist once he pulls away, just enough to softly throw you onto the sheets of your bed, his talented hands make quick work of your night shorts and boxers, his eagerness prevailing once they fall into a pool on the carpet.
You hiss when the cold air hits your now oversensitive tip which dripped copious amounts of pre, Frank noticed with a deep chuckle, strong hands pushing up your legs with no resistance as he settles on his knees, hot breath fanning against the back of your thighs.
He takes note of your pale pink hole, salivating at the thought of finally planting his face between the two pert globes you had offered up.
“There he is- fuck look at that”
He wouldn’t ever admit just how hard you had got him, you we’re pretty, a little to pretty, maybe ditzy and a little stupid for letting someone as dangerous as him touch you in ways that had you clutching at the sheets.
“Sir- I can’t, need you-“
Is all you could mutter passed pressed lips, it had been so long, to long since the last time you had gotten intimate with someone, this one took the cake, it was all kinds of strange, only taking note of features shown, the way his eyes had changed to a dark shade of lust, how his lips softly pressed dirty chaste kisses to the skin of your under thighs…why was this happening, you were suppose to help catch the bastard, not fall into bed with him.
“Say that again- wanna hear yer’ beg”
Each kiss led lower until he settled just above your hole, pressing two rough, sloppy kisses to the puckered skin surrounding it, he wanted to hear just how eager you were to finally have him, to finally allow him to dissect you like a butterfly, clip the wings and make you his own.
“Please- I need you, anything-“
He tuts before chuckling one more, the huff of hot breath settling over the coolness of your hole, without any thought, you sink back into the sheets before reaching for the top of his head, with a surge of confidence, you smush his face between your cheeks as he spreads them, feeling him smirk against you was everything, but the long lap, from balls, taint to hole was much more.
He had witnessed the case file you had on him, guessed you were some sort of lawyer working for murdock, it just fuelled his fire, his urge to take control, make you forget, make you understand that he is the man you should fear, but the man you should come running to, it had his dick jump with joy, you were easy but he liked that.
He lapped and lathed at your hole dirtily like some pornstar, eager to uncover the very thing he craved. You could feel the once more slobber roll down from his tongue to your balls, dripping onto the carpet below, shivering in his hold, you begin to push back, wiggling against his face as he noses at your wet clutch.
The tips of two fingers were present, pushing into you alongside his tongue like butter, no resistance, just pure admiration and pleasure, allowing the stranger to ruin your hole, lavish licks and darts of his tongue had you quivering around the intrusion, his fingers smashing in and outwards, scissoring them apart to prepare you for the oncoming assault.
“So easy, just wanna be used? Yer’ that hungry for me? yer’ been stalking me for months and here I am…using yer’ like a damn whore…what would Murdock and Co. think of yer’ spread out and whining for the biggest criminal in Hell’s Kitchen?”
You whimpered at the thought, almost driving you over the edge. He was vulgar and dirty with his words and his tone, deep and low, almost making you dizzy along side the third digit slipping inside, burying themselves to the knuckle making your cock jump.
He smirks against your hole before giving it a few final laps. He pulls them away, standing to glare down at your fucked out features.
“Somethin’ tells me yer’ like the sound of that hmm?”
You watch attentively as his fingers work to unclasp his belt, whipping it off. He unfastens the button, watching as his cargo’s pool around his ankles before kicking them off along with his boxers.
His cock slaps up into his abdomen with a sharp thud. You glare at it, taking it in, judging it harshly. He was big, big enough to leave an impression, he was girthy and long, thick from base to tip, his head an angry shade of red, his balls resting heavily between his thighs, the light shedding of hair framing the beauty.
“Don’t think yer’ gettin’ outta this boy, yer’ gonna take it like the pretty little thing yer’ are”
Peeling off his long sleeved t-shirt, you glaze amongst the muscles that bulged, his physique was godly, heavenly, everything that had your body spreading automatically to give him the space to slot between your legs, kneeling on the edge of the bed.
“Fuck- you look-“
Your words were slight encouragement to Frank as he dipped, still the Ski-mask stayed, secreting his identy, you could still kiss him, sloppy and rough. Whining into the kiss notified Frank of your eagerness, so much so, without warning he pressed the spongy head of his cock against your rim, practically asking for permission.
Breaking the kiss had you back to reality, but it was to late, you mumbled a sharp “yes” allowing him to enter, pushing into your sloppy, slick hole with resistance. You both moan in unison as Frank pushes the air out of your lungs, pushing each inch inward until he sheathed himself fully, now resting against you.
“Atta boy, all the way in with no complanin’, yer’ such a pretty boy ain’t yer’, taking me in all the way like a professional-“
You flutter against him as his arms throw your legs up, pushing them against your stomach giving him enough space to settle just above you, his lips kissing at your jaw, nibbling on the skin as he pulls out, pushing back in slowly to allow you to adjust.
How were you going to explain the current set of events to the law firm and two of the closest men to you, Matthew Murdock and Foggy Nelson, the intimacy of your thoughts only lead you to believe that this would put you at risk…of wanting more.

Gpose Guide: Keyframes
Tumblr media
FFXIV has amazingly detailed animations, but it takes skills (that I don't have) to grab that perfect frame that'll make your pose shine.
Luckily, there's a way to slow down animations: you can use the Enable All Motion / Enable Target Motion keys (1 / 2 for you, keyboard users; LT/RT buttons in console) in quick succession.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's how it works: first, you freeze your character with 2 (Enable Target Motion) then, in rapid sequence, tap 1 then 2. Use this to navigate the animation frames.
Tumblr media
This method applies to all animations, Lip Movement included - which makes for very nice, mid-speech stills:

Here's a still-frame from this experiment:

Throw in some composition, and we land on results like this:

Oh yeah, might as well post this!
Razputin Aquato Smash Bros. Moveset!
Yeah, I wrote this a while back and while the boy has never been on any nintendo consol, I just want to show some love to him. Plus, people are complaining about lack of Psychonauts content and because school is on my neck I feel like I can't do too much work that can be posted quickly.
Movement * Raz's walking animation is heavily inspired by Psychonauts 2's introduction in Loboto's Labyrinth. Very slow and deliberate. * Raz's run gives him a big gimmick, of moving his hit box way up as he summons his levitation ball to run on. His speed and control give him one of the quickest turns, with about 3-5 frames to turn around. However, he's tripped very easily. * Raz has two jumps, heavily inspired by Psychonauts 2, but allow him to get up much higher due to his weight class. * Raz’s Shield is flavored to the same way that it is in PN1, giving him an automatic crouch when he shields. This will also allow the shield to cover him up fully, however there isn’t much ability to move the shield itself, unlike with other characters like Sora.
Basic Attacks * Dash Attack (Attack while running) – Raz uses the Wrecking Ball attack as seen in the games, with him dashing to opponents with spikes on the Levitation Ball. This also negates any tripping that he would go through. * Side Tilt (tilt the stick side to side while attacking) – Weak Psi-punch * Up Tilt – A forward-flip with an upwards kick. Has major end lag. * Down Tilt - Kicks at a foe coming close, with a guarantee to trip any opponents who get hit by the small attack.
Smash Attacks * Side Smash (Hold the stick made for attacking to the side) - A stronger Psi-punch than side tilt, tends to launch opponents around 65-70%. * Up Smash - A TK Palm that thrusts upwards, and cancels any down airs that are attacking before the TK Palm forms. * Down Smash - A solid TK Hand bashes down and buries opponents. Is great to pair with a side smash.
Aerials * Neutral air (be in the air, and hold no sticks in any way. Attack) - A surge of pyrokinesis forms around Raz. A great tool to get opponents off of you. * Forward air (be in the air and hold stick the way Raz faces. Attack) - A Psi-palm attack, similar to the one that Raz used against the Judge in Compton's mind before the level starts. * Back air (be in the air and hold stick away from where Raz faces. Attack) - Elbows an opponent. Small damage that can cause flinching. * Up air - Does a backflip in the air, kicking his leg out to hit the opponent above. * Down air - Palm Bomb makes it easy to get to the stage and even causes a small explosion akin to Megaman's stickybomb. * Aerial Dodge – Twisting while using Time Bubble (like Bayonetta’s Witch Time).
Grabs * Larger grab range than some, due to the psychic powers. Like Joker’s Grappling Hook in the air, Raz can use Mental Connection to grab opponents and drag them towards him. * Grabs using the TK Hand (changes color depending on costume) * Pummel – by squeezing the hand * Forward Throw (tilt the attack stick in the direction Raz is facing) – Simply throws the character forwards, like the Second game with Telekinesis. * Back Throw (tilt the attack stick opposite of where Raz is facing) – Has more of an Arc, like the first game * Up Throw – Throws in a bit of Pyrokinesis, using fire to launch the opponent upwards. * Down Throw – Slams the Palm Bomb down (buries instead of explodes)
Special Attacks * Neutral special (holding special button with no stick input) – Psi-blast, can be reflected * Side Special – Confusion Grenade. Longer held, the further it’s thrown. Explodes and confuses upon impact. Can’t be reflected. * Up Smash/Recovery – Pyrokinesis from wherever Raz is and summoning the Lev-balloon * Down Smash/Counter – Blocks with both his hands with part of a Psi-shield. If hit he retaliates with a Psi-Palm attack
Gimmicks * Extra distance is given to Raz for getting up from ledges than other characters. His attacks, rolls, and jumps are given a boost due to his acrobatic nature. (great for countering ledge traps) * Can only walk above water with the use of Chio, cannot use dash or swimming when on water.
Other Aesthetics * Smash announcer says "Razputin" (The shitty Wii-mote speaker says "it's Raz" using a line recorded by Richard Horvitz himself) * Stage is based off of PN2’s Quarry, with the Motherlobe in the background. Platforms are the floating stone platforms that lead up to the Motherlobe. Can shift to float around the Quarry, or when Stage hazards are on, can shift the stage onto the Motherlobe landing pad. COSTUMES! * PN2 Outfit * PN1 Outfit * Black Velvetopia Outfit * Psi-King's Sensorium Outfit * d'Artagnan Palette * Sasha Palette * Milla Palette * Oleander Palette
* Stage Entrance - Comes out from a Psi-portal door and readjusts his goggles.
Taunts * Up taunt - Triple Backflip * Side – Zilch Dance (borrow from the animation where he punches Bobby while on the grind rail so he stays still) * Down – Brings out a Comic and flips through it
* Losing/No Contest - Politely claps. Around four per second Win Screens * Pulling one of the “Power Get” poses he loves to do. * Brushing himself off and then jumps, with a smile and fist in the air * Archetype congratulating Raz and hanging off of him
Yeah, I don't have anything for the Final Smash, but maybe others could come up with something?

Rockman.EXE and Cyber Security.
Tumblr media
When you are a Rockman/Megaman Battle Network fan and you take a college course about networking, you start to notice how broken the internet is in the anime. So just for fun, I want to talk about a few things I learn about network security and how it is interpreted in the Megaman Battle Network anime.
1. Firewalls
What are firewalls? In simple terms, it is a security barrier that is placed between a private network and the public network.
They are configured to monitor and filter networking traffic, hackers go through them by figuring out how they are programed, once they do they can either bypass the security undetected or simply disable the firewall.
Lets take a scene from the movie where Lan sends Megaman into a secretary’s console to destroy a program inside a company’s server.
Tumblr media
Megaman is running through the network between the console and the firewall, which protects the private network of the company.
Tumblr media
Logically, for Megaman to go through the firewall, he is going to need to use his powers as a Net Navigator (Net Navi) to analyze the firewall at an incredible speed to try to find a way to go through it, right?
WRONG! Battle Network logic says you can just break it with brute force!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You see the problem?
Does this mean Navis and battle chips are just as destructive to the net as viruses? Because last time I checked, Viruses and malware are the only programs with the ability to destroy networks.
2. Viruses
Viruses are man made, they are programed with a purpose that’s usually to destroy data files. They can also be used to change and manipulate programs, that’s why you can see evil Navis controlling viruses to do specific jobs for them. Viruses can’t replicate on their own without a user interface, so how is this Moloko a baby?!
Tumblr media
There was an undubbed episode of Megaman Axess where Rush meets and befriends a baby Moloko virus, which doesn’t make any sense. Yes, Rush is a virus, and it has been established that viruses can communicate with each other, but why does this Moloko have parents? And why was the group of Molokos it separated from was being herded by other viruses like Trumpy? All I’ve seen Molokos do is charge at megaman when they see him, trying to ram him. Why would someone herd them? For the wool? It disappears after you hit it!
And what even is Rush’s purpose anyway? When he first appeared in the anime, he was made to track down Rockman’s frame or structure when they were trying to revive him with the backup data, but now?
All he does is being a crappy character who runs away when things get dangerous, doesn’t act like a dog anymore, and irritates me because he can move between the cyberworld and the real world! He is selfish, lacy, and practically useless, there are several times where Megaman goes missing and Rush is never even called to track him down, so he doesn’t even have that ability anymore.
On a positive note, viruses can be interesting, I found out that there are different types of viruses. For example.
A Stealth virus is a virus that avoids detection from anti virus software, this means it can conceal itself and attack without being spotted, sounds familiar? In this case the anti-virus software would also include Navis.
A retro virus tries to destroy anti-virus programs, I like to think these apply to viruses who specifically target Navis in battle like Canodumbs and Piranahs since they only attack when they detect an enemy in the line of fire.
Armored Viruses are hard to detect or analyze because they have a protective code, These could be Viruses with armors or auras like the Dominerd or even the life virus.
But Phage viruses remind me of these guys because they rewrite programs.
Tumblr media
And I guess this one counts too?
Tumblr media
Other viruses just act like malware, like the Alpha bug that is more of a worm than a virus, because it can replicate and travel across networks without any human assistance.
Others are obvious like the Pop up virus which is just Rush, and it is supposed to be adware, but just like Rush, it is more annoying than harmful.
In the anime, killereye viruses are used as spyware, there was an episode were Videoman used them to spy on Rockman and make copies of him.
Tumblr media
3. Tracing a signal.
Basically, everything you do on the net leaves bread crumps or cookies behind that makes it easy to track a user online, every device have a Mac Address and every network has an IP address, but it takes a special kind of software and advance skills to track down somebody in the real world.
Let’s talk about episode 32 of Stream.
Remember that episode were Megaman followed a revived Shademan to 20 Years in the past and he witnessed a famous hacking incident that was stopped by Colonel?
Tumblr media
Aside from the fact that it was 20 years in the past and Megaman is more advance than most of the technology there, there were a few things bothering me.
For starters, why does that computer show a little Colonel doing something to that guy’s hacking program? It’s cute and all, but this is a confusing way to show someone disabling a program, it usually just shows a notification. Or is that how the computer sees colonel, like a little pixel version of him? XD
That hacking program was made to open any cyber lock, it uses three special pillars to disguise the signal so the police wouldn’t be able to track down the address, this means those pillars have some special form of encryption to cover the data to make it untraceable. In the anime’s world, that means it’s invisible, but somehow Megaman can still sense it? And how did Barryl know where the guy was? Did colonel tell him? Or did the viruses he sent to delete colonel revealed his location? Oops.
4. Hard Drives.
To end this post, what are hard drives? They are what your computer uses to store files, so Navis can obviously be stored in a computer as well. The problem is that they are still sentient inside the computer instead of dormant.
The concept of containing a Navi, yes, Navis have their own jail in this universe, doesn’t really make any sense. We know Navis can sleep, but the Navis we see in cages are still active, and if everything is connected to the internet, how can they not escape?
I’m using this scene with Megaman as an example, when he was arrested for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, he was put in a cute little cyber cage.
Tumblr media
However, since Megaman is more advance, he wonders if the hard drive of the computer he is stored in is weak against vibrations. What does he mean by that? Physical or cyber vibrations? Does that mean he can control a frequency in that computer’s cyberworld to alter it?
Whatever he did worked, because he left a gap in the cage, but how did he do it without damaging the Hard Drive? The police officer wouldn’t be able to access his files anymore, maybe it was minor file corruption?
And the worst part is that he opened a gateway into the internet, which is still there! I guess Megaman can travel through routers by himself? Maybe that wouldn’t have happen if the officer just disconnected his ethernet cable.
This Network based world is a scary one.

Note
Do you have any gamer nekos?
Oh definitely,
I've got a smattering of 'em queued up for ya. And I made sure they weren't all drawings of vtubers. Nothing against vtubers but they have kinda taken over the animal eared scene (especially those with a gaming theme) since they came around and I personally like to see peoples' OCs. That being said there are vtubers in the mix.... a lot of them still have nice designs to them...
If you want to see some of my older finds, I tend to tag anything with a game controller or console, or has a game screen in frame with #vidya games (because I am clever and super original).
With that out of the way, here are a few of my favs from the bunch to get you started.

Taking good gposes without reshade or 3rd party tools
Tumblr media
this post was made for like, 2 of my mutuals. full disclosure i dont entirely gaf if you do or do not use plugins or reshade- but a lot of tutorials i can find usually like to say "use shaders!" instead of showing how vanilla tools are good. this ones for you console players. It's a bit lengthy so I kept it under the cut for scrolling convenience.
My character only has cosmetic mods on for this tutorial. I did not use anything that I could not access using vanilla methods and menus, my shaders are off for this demonstration.
PART 1, some tricks in the gpose menu
a few that I personally have picked up from poking around in the menu this is one I like to use for decent angles, minions!
Tumblr media
Any minion that could sit on your shoulder (head for lalas) is like a second camera. I use nanamo here as an example as she's relatively easy to get and Midgardsormr does not get on your shoulder with /beckon the way other minions do
Tumblr media Tumblr media
left is nanamo targeted, and right is with my character targeted. See the difference? This could give you a different variety of angles that would be difficult to achieve otherwise
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also like using tools like the talking animations to get different types of expressions. you could achieve a D:< face like above, or a :D face if you use /smile
Tumblr media
last trick and one I will be using for this tutorial is Explorer Mode accessed via duty finder, this allows you to use battle moves that could assist in a more dynamic shot, as well as letting you access cool dungeons to walk through
Tumblr media
like this! though if the effects are bothering you you could turn it off with this button, please note that you cannot turn off battle effects for every move
Tumblr media
Part 2, let's get gposing
Tumblr media
Now that you have an idea and pose (I used whm lb3 to get this) when you enter the gpose menu, the first thing that you'd notice is that it is very dark. Manual light adjustment usually remedies that
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a look at what i have used, and a walk through of what every button does. I forgot to mention screen effect, which again is pretty straightforward- in the past I've used the particle effect to be more "glittery." though do feel free to play with it.
You may notice in the back of the picture, there is a blue torch. I really want that blue light to hit my character, but it's not doing that now because ffxiv's lighting engine was nerfed tremendously to help load. All I have to do to give that light to my character is move the camera in the position I want it to (i put it as far back as possible so I am as close to the torch as I can be)
Tumblr media
et voila, there is now blue light. The way lighting works is that you have 3 lights, and each with 3 "types" type 3 is most intense, while type 1 is the least. The sliders show which color is most intense, I just slid blue up all the way to have it be the brightest.
Tumblr media
nearly forgotten about the pesky shortcut portal though. to hide this you can switch to the bottom most button in the lefthand column, and switch from "show all" to "self only" though if this is a group shot, change it to "PCs only" (i think thats the term)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you could also see in this shot my "character lighting" slider is up, this is how intensely light affects your character- mine is relatively low here because I do not want the light to be too intense.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and lastly, i used limb darkening (as well as using the cinematic frame in the 2nd button lefthand column. the one not affected by camera movement. I find the frames pretty straightforward but let me know if you'd like me to talk more about them) you could tell the difference in mood. left is without, and right is with. It depends on the vibe you want, but I personally always think a teensy vignette can do a lot for a picture
Tumblr media
and with that, this is the final result, and the one I showed at the beginning! Though not necessary, you could always take it a step further and run it through an editing program (personal recommendation if you want something free is photopea, which is an in-browser photoshop replica) or even using photography knowledge like rule of thirds & color story. but this is still much, much better than what we have started with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
how far we've come....

Atari 2600 Chronicles 1980 #7 - Boxing
Third parties! Weird to think that it took several years before they actually became a real thing on console. Sure, we had the console manufacturers creating *clones* of popular arcade games before (Circus Atari), or get the license to make an adaptation of the official thing (Space Invaders), but this is the first clear cut example of another publisher putting something on store shelves that works on the 2600 just fine.
Then again, Activision, the company in charge of the next 4 games i'm gonna cover, consisted mostly of disgruntled ex-Atari employees that wanted more (and deserved) more credit for their work. We're gonna have to wait a little longer before we see a start-up that came entirely outta nowhere.
The main difference between Atari and Activision games at this point is that the latter seemingly enjoys style over substance more. These early titles actually have *less* content than what Atari brought to the table in 1980, and debateably 1979 too. However, they are visually surperior and feel muuuuch less dated thanks to it. You'll see this to greater effect with several of the upcoming titles. Boxing itself is a very, *very* subtle take on it.
The Verdict
Graphics (6): If you SQUINT, you can see a little bit of the Activision sauce put over this simple overhead boxer. There's this little graphic at the bottom of the screen that would keep showing up throughout the company's 2600 history. Reading 'Activision'. It looks pretty good. The font also got an improvement over Atari's offerings, being smaller and more rounded. This'll also keep being a factor throughout. Now the game itself? You'd need to understand that the boxers have way more frames of animation and the subtle detail of having their noses bopped in when hit before you can appreciate it. Oh, and get used to the boxers looking like lobsters if you can't get the hang of the overhead perspective.
Sound (5): There's exactly 2 sound effects in this game. The punching noise and the 'ding ding' of the bell when a round is over. Man. They are good sounds, once again largely beating Atari in giving off a modern vibe, yet is that really enough when the quantity is THAT low? Going straight down the middle for this one.
Fun Factor (5): I can vaguely see what the hubbub is about when some reeeeally nostalgic types call this one of the best boxing games ever. It's certainly one of the first competent ones, I will go as far as saying that. Landing a blow, or better yet, a combo by wailing on the opponent when he is on the ropes, that can be a little bit of fun. However, it's all too fleeting. Too shallow. Seems like the game struggles to connect (automatically adjusted) hits for ya too, it happened far too often that I thought I would have found the right spot, only for the game to play an awkward whiff of an animation and be none the wiser. Strategy also kinda goes out of the window when playing against the AI, I don't think I lost a single match by just bashing him up without thinking about it.
Longevity (4): Relying heavily on the players making their own fun in multiplayer isn't doing it anymore i'm afraid. You can set the AI/second player and yourself to a higher or lower speed and that's literally all you can do to change things up. A small group of people got their money's worth out of this one in the 80s, for me this is nothing more than compilation fodder. Something you'll play twice to get the Activision Anthology stamp, which is what I was playing this on. And that's exactly what I did. I actually got enthousiastic about reading about this supposed 'difficulty setting', turns out that's just their naming of the higher speed switch. Bleh.
In Conclusion

Disrupt Project - Animation storyboards
(20/11/23-24/11/23)
I ran into a multitude of problems this week, the most bothersome being losing my adobe files and having to redo all my work. Frame-by-frame animation and creating animatics has been a hobby of mine for a few years so I wanted to create one for this project.
I storyboarded out my idea, myself on the screen of my Nintendo 3DS console being sealed in by Tetris blocks, symbolising how I used video-games to ‘seal’ myself off from the world as a coping mechanism.
Tumblr media
Partial inspiration for this idea came from a scene in the video game Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, where a character is executed and tortured by many different popular video game mechanisms, the most notable being the final blow coming from a falling Tetris block.

Pokemon Violet is so incredibly close to being an excellent game. I’m not that far in, but so far I’m really enjoying the spin they’ve put on the usual storyline. It took me 2 1/2 hours to even get to the school. The autobattling mechanic is wonderful. No random encounters is wonderful. No matter what I’m going to have fun. I’m a sucker for open world games and for Pokemon. I loved Arceus despite its flaws, so I don’t regret buying it one bit. Pokemon is one of my all time favorites.
THAT BEING SAID
Game Freak REALLY needed to push back the release because the optimization is miserable. I get that the Switch is a pretty underpowered console, but some of the frame rate issues I’ve seen are really, really bad. Like worse than Arceus bad, and Arceus had some janky animations. Violet has the benefit of looking more cohesive in the art style than Arceus, and it could be a very pretty game, but it runs like when I tried to get to run Oblivion on a garbage laptop that shouldn’t have been able to run it. Low FPS, bad pop in, janky animations, and lag plague the experience that is so close to being excellent. Hopefully Game Freak patch some of these issues soon. Daddy Nintendo really need to step in and make them actually finish the games before releasing them. It feels like we were given a late stage test build.

I'm gonna be praising Pokémon SV a lot on this blog, and making fun of the game's jank as well. So I'll take this opportunity to give my honest thoughts about that jank and the state of the Pokémon games. It's a long one, so read below the cut.
Scarlet and Violet are embarrassingly rushed. That is the keyword. Rushed. I believe that in most if not all cases, game developers are not lazy. When a game looks like this, it is obvious that the upper management did not give their developers nearly enough time. It in management's fault, not the people making the game.
In my experience, whenever someone complains that a game’s devs were lazy, they are really disagreeing with how the devs prioritized that limited time they were allowed. The world geometry is strikingly blocky and not very well textured and the frame rate almost never runs at 60 fps (your profile's play clock consistently runs short of your actual playtime because of this).
On the other hand, there are 400 Pokémon in the Paldea Pokédex. 102 of them are brand new to Gen IX. Every mon had to be coded, textured, animated, etc. It's impressive how expansive the dex is considering it contains 40% of all Pokémon ever created. So while performance is bad, they did use some of their time to give us a really good regional dex. It's impossible to know how many compromises like this were made, but I know there were a hell of a lot of them.
It is depressing that SV shipped the way they did in the year 2022. Breath of the Wild was essentially a Wii U game ported to Switch in 2017 and runs almost flawlessly on the exact same hardware. And it looks much better while doing it. It’s astounding that the higher-ups at Gamefreak looked at the game that their undoubtedly stressed and overworked devs were producing, and said “Yeah, that can ship this year.”
The problem has only gotten worse with this company. Black 2 and White 2 were absolutely jam packed with content, but developing on modern consoles is much harder than on the DS. Ever since, you can tell that corners have been progressively getting cut. X and Y had no postgame. Sword and Shield had an underwhelming presentation and finally cut the ever-expanding dex. Legends: Arceus has bugs all over and is startlingly unpleasant to look at. BDSP was developed by ILCA and not Gamefreak, but you can tell at a glance that they didn't have enough time either.
So, what's up? Will it get better? I doubt it. For every adult fan who cares about the state of the franchise and quality of the games, there are leagues more children who can't tell the difference between a masterpiece and piece of shit. The games will sell as long as there are children (and their parents) to buy them. You and I are the minority and no amount of boycotting would work.
The only way I see this getting better is if the next games are so catastrophically rushed that they are literally (and I mean literally) unplayable. When parents start returning the games for refunds because their kid can't play the game, things might improve. Ain't that comforting?
It makes me sad to see one of my childhood favorite franchises go like this. I want the best for Pokémon. Not just for myself, no. For today's kids and tomorrow's kids. I'm able to look at the games I played growing up--Platinum, Heartgold, White--and see the abundance of care and polish put into them. They're genuinely good games and I'm happy I got to play such good games when I was young. I want kids today to be able to look back 10 years and say the same, because right now? They deserve better.

Hello, Sneep. I've been a fan of your work for a long time and it's a huge inspiration for a beginner like me. If you don't mind, can I ask you 2 questions? 1-What books/videos/content do you recommend for someone who wants to start to animate sprites like you do? 2-How do you make anti-aliasing? I know a bit of color theory, but I struggle a lot to make my lines look smooth. Thank you!
Hey, Anon. Appreciate you feel that way about my work. Means a lot, man.
Your first question is a little difficult for me to answer. I've never looked at books, or videos for animating sprites. I just started doing it back in the day because video games and animation were pretty cool to me, and emulation was a big thing for me in the early 2000′s.
I used to (and still do from time to time) check out a lot of sprite art of classic games on Spriters Resource. I’d look at stuff from the SNES, Arcade, Sega Genesis, PS1, etc. Some of my influences were simplistic and fun stuff, like The Simpsons Arcade and Super Mario World, or other styles like games from Capcom, such as Magical Quest and Marvel Vs. Capcom, and some of Treasure's Sega Genesis game art is really appealing and prolific as well.
I didn't grow up with a GBA, and not well versed with it's library, but it seems like there's a lot of decent stuff on that system as well.
Here’s a link I do remember from back in the day by pixel legend, Cure. Definitely a good place to start. I wasn’t heavy into tutorials, because I’m stubborn and find it hard to buckle down and read, but started reading it seriously a few years ago, and it’s a pretty well written piece:
https://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299
Been looking over this guy’s video, Mort Mort. Goes over stuff I don’t wanna clog in here, but he’s got some pretty good information in this, so I recommend to check it out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWKhytYUGTg
Would also suggest to check this site out, Lospec. It has tutorials, communities you can find, software for pixel art. Seems like you can find some really good stuff hopefully.
https://lospec.com/
Check out youtube videos if you wanna study the motion of sprite art in games. Youtube lets you use the < and > keys to go back and forward with frames. Use 60 fps quality if you can. NintendoComplete is an excellent source for game footage in 60fps and 720p or above from what I’ve seen. Principal’s of animation are important. This has been in my watch later list for what’s felt like 2 or 3 years, so checked to see if it’s a decent source, and it’s actually pretty helpful. Pixel artist use these rules as well, so study stuff like this. I’ve never been well versed in technical stuff. I just liked animating, and learned over trial and error, which is actually bad and wouldn’t recommend being that stubborn.
https://youtu.be/uDqjIdI4bF4
I’d say keep it simple if you’re a beginner, and I’d like to say the same for the subject matter you study. I’m pretty sure you’ll have an easier time starting with pixel art from stuff like NES, Gameboy, or other simple contemporary consoles.
I also feel that you should try looking at simpler stuff like Super Mario Bros. than say starting with something more complex like Shatter Hand. I think Japanese companies like Nintendo, Capcom, Konami, Sunsoft (Japanese only), and definitely some others out there, are the best influence in my opinion when it comes to just good overall design.
Second question, I really didn’t want to answer this question, because AA isn’t the easiest thing to explain, I’ve never really written a tutorial, or talk to people about art. I just do it because I’m just drawn to it I guess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Really didn’t wanna do this because it takes up some time to explain everything, I do not feel like a tutorial guy or have any experience writing them, and I really need to jump onto other things.
Spent some time putting this together, but I don’t know. I can’t really recommend taking this seriously. If you want to learn about anti-aliasing, I will say go check out the link from above on Cure’s Pixel Art Tutorial. It’s more helpful.
Hopefully, at the very least, the links I sent you can be of better help. Keep an open mind, not all old pixel art is perfect, question why you put down blocks the way you do, and don’t count down the days you been at it and focus on having fun doing and or learning it. Good luck with whatever you do.

Digimon World 2 - 40 Hours in update
Still trucking along with this one. I try to do about one dungeon a day and judging by the walkthroughs, I'm halfway through the main game (11 out of 20 missions). I'm finding both the gameplay and the story to be frustratingly uninspired, but at least I'm not ready to chuck my controller at the screen like I was with the first game. It's a good mindless game that I can watch YouTuber videos to and I appreciate that at the end of a work day.
Notes:
-I swear, this plot feels like it was kind of just made up as they went along. Characters come out of nowhere and they all have stupid names (Ben Oldman? What is that, a Star Wars character?) Everyone's flat, so I'm not emotionally attached to anyone. I'm also not emotionally attached to my digimon because I know I'll have to digivolve them eventually and they'll look completely different. (Still better than game 1 when they would die every 2 hours though).
-God bless emulators. If I was playing this game on an actual console I probably would have rage quit by now. Not only does save scumming allow me to avoid having to redo dungeons a jillion times, but I've also been using the frame limit feature to speed things up. Everything in this game takes TEN YEARS. In battles you're forced to watch up to 6 digimon slowwwwly attack each other and every time your character interacts with another they slowwwwly approach one another. Loading times in between screens are pretty bad too. Hitting the fast forward button has made everything so much more tolerable and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.
-All the dungeons look almost identical and that's become pretty mind numbing. They couldn't at least put some different colors/textures in there?? "Find the exit" isn't a very fun gameplay style either.
-Catching digimon is a pain in the ass...or it WOULD be if it weren't for my save scumming. Imagine going 10 floors in a dungeon only for a digimon to be like "Nah, I don't feel like joining your team" and then having to do those 10 floors again!? Couldn't be me...
-DNA Digivolution just forces you to have to do major grinding. I wish it worked like the anime where you got new digimon out of it, but instead you just get normal-ass digimon that you could tame in the wild. At least the Digimon Center is supplying me with the actually good digimon...
-Not sure the emphasis on digimon type was really necessary. It was kinda a neat idea, but having certain items only work for certain types is just annoying. Most of this game is just inventory management lol.
-I don't really know what's going on in the story at this point. They're suddenly talking about an evil digimon prince and I'm just like "where did that come from??" Bleh. I kinda wish there was voice acting.
-Positives: I like the art style still and the variety in digimon and battle moves are good. I've also kind of enjoyed slowly improving my digi-beetle.
-It seems like this game won't be overly long. I can tell you right now that I most likely won't be doing a completionist run. It doesn't seem like there are medals in this game anyways? It seems like it would be hell trying to obtain every digimon...
