Additional stuff below readmore

Kalla is great for cuddling with and she can even become a furnace if you're feeling cold. A very fluffy snuggly furnace. She loves picking people up and fighting or wrestling with people... and holding people... Very hands-on gal. Get manhandled, nerd (but only if you're down for that). Just... don't let her cook anything. It will be both burnt and undercooked at the same time. There is also a chance she won't know it's a romantic date instead of a platonic date, because she is kinda dense. Lastly, don't mind the flames, they won't hurt you.

Luis gets a bit awkward on dates or when talking with new people because he is a bit of a workaholic and does not socialize all that much. He hates dressing up and doesn't care too much for overly fancy settings, so this WILL be a "casual" date...with lovely food they've cooked just for you (and if you like eating fish, he will catch them himself! for you!). It is an expensive restaurant high quality meal, without the expensive restaurant. They will also fall asleep during cuddles (he loves naps... and is afflicted with permanent sleepy bitch disease). May potentially show you his knife collection.

Aster is a big fan of making things go boom, so, naturally, that will be included in any date she goes on. But hey, you get a personalized fireworks show in the middle of nowhere (the only place she's allowed to make boom happen 😔). Also, she might even give you a piece of shrapnel she thought was cool. Or a rock. Or a piece of dragonbrand if yall really hit it off (yes, it would be a piece of her brand, chipped right off her hair branches). She doesn't really get what dates are beyond 'romantic stuff' and her love language is explosions and whatever cool thing she just found.

Senna will bring honey as a little date treat to share. She doesn't talk much and is very quiet when she does speak, as she prefers to Observe and listen. If you like to talk a lot, she will let you do it! Also, bonus points if you ask her about her interest in bees, she will hit you with the bee hyperfixation beam. Also, yes, the honey she brings is from her bee friends, and she will tell you all about the bees' favorite flowers.

The Ladies is your regular everyday overpowered sentient magical anomaly (mesmer flavored). She is very chaotic by nature of being a bundle of sentient magic, but she means well. Also they will be wearing a different outfit every time you look away. Because fuck you, magic wardrobe change. Also, she should not be the one organizing or planning the date, absolutely do NOT let her have that responsibility. She doesn't even know what a date is supposed to be like 😭. Also when you date The Ladies, you are also dating their clones. Because the clones are them, they are the clones. It's fine, dating her is like having 50 partners but they're all the same person.

Mesmer!Luis is less shy and awkward than his canon counterpart when it comes to dating, but is also slightly less of a romantic. He also doesn't have quite the same hangups around dressing up (but he will be very unhappy if he can't "dress" a little slutty with his illusions) and fancier settings! He will only cook you a little dessert treat and not a whole meal, but will let you touch his chest or biceps, if you like. Absolute cuddle fiend and he's warmer than a human should be, but it's fine, promise. This version is also less likely to fall asleep, but the chances are still decent enough that he might! Could be convinced to show off and flex his fun little mesmer tricks, if asked.

Beans is just a lil creature! This gremlin is not supposed to be charr in their usual form, so they are a little awkward and clumsy with this new form. May whack you with it's tail, that thing is sososo long compared to the tail it is used to. It will probably drag you into some wild adventure or scheme. It will also break the 4th wall and get very Meta. Beans is also very fond of memes and bright colors.

Alice has been a ghost since King Adelbern betrayed his people and bound their spirits to fight for an eternity against the charr. Alice is not fully bound any longer. In her free time, she enjoys a bit of sparring and... well... all this freedom is new so she doesn't know much about her own likes and interests beyond that! Also, she is like, really cute. If she likes you enough, she may even take off her helmet for you. She may also be subject to outbursts as she fights to keep control of herself. It would be Very Bad if the Foefire takes over (I advise running, if such a thing were to happen).

Hey, I just finished reading Peregrine Phoenix vol.1 - I adored it enough to come poke the author about it. I'm a fervid martial arts guy, and I noticed that, despite the relatively sparse description of grappling in comparison to the abundant striking, both of Mokou's barehanded fights ended with suplexes. Interestingly, she fights taurs both times. I'd love to hear more about the process behind choreographing this, particularly the process of figuring out what might and mightn't work on a quadrupedal body plan. Were you inspired by judo, wrestling, something else?

thank you so much for this ask. it's maybe the perfect question so i hope i can do it justice.

it's been about 2-2.5 years since i wrote the fight scenes in book 1, so i don't have as precise an idea anymore of my peripheral inspirations. as far as personal experience with martial arts, i don't have a whole lot - i took karate in high school at a suburban McDojo and got to... brown belt? then a whole lot of nothing. but by the time i started writing book 1, my wife's interest and appreciation of Wing Chun got me into the off-and-on habit of doing daily Si Lim Tao with her.

because of this, i'm a bit of a chameleon when it comes to my influences. i rely on media depictions a lot. i see a cool martial arts movie (like the Ip Man movies for Wing Chun, or like The Raid for Silat, etc) and i'm like "well that's cool as fuck, and mokou loves to tussle and she's lived forever so i bet she knows that." i like to give her worldly influences and i also like to give her otherworldly/larger-than-life/future influences because she's been part of this unbroken continuity of being and her knowledge and practice should reflect that. so it's things like Wing Chun and Silat, but it's also things like Lunarian CQC from the Lunar Wars, Danneskjold Pit Style from her life across the Moghra'yi, or Heaven Sundering Fist from wherever the hell you learn fake anime martial marts in the time and space between Gensokyo and Qud.

the suplex finisher is for any number of reasons. number one, there's something incredibly decisive and definitive about a suplex. number two, it's flashy as hell and i love flashy things. number three, and perhaps most critically, it gets your foe off of their feet! and when you're facing a quadruped, that's very important, that's the root of their strength! they can get twice the leverage out of the ground as you can, so the sooner you can negate that advantage, the better!

writing this series has me thinking about the ergonomics and design philosophy of centaurs more than i usually do, which, if you look at my #taurposting tag, you can probably understand is something i already think about a great deal. whenever agate fobs off mokou's interest or training offers with "i have my own techniques" i'm always like god. but actually what do those look like. how do you get gains as a centaur in a world with no gyms. one of these chapters in one of these books i'll probably go into it.

mokou's moveset in ULiL/AoCF is also a big inspiration! she's got all these great stomps and kicks and flips and nasty fire-claw punches whenever she deigns to pull her hands out of her pockets. she's not a very "honorable" fighter, she cares way more about getting to cut loose. agate's lucky she didn't catch a handful of homemade explosives to the face!

my choreography process is usually like… well i do a lot of rotating these gals in my mind and seeing what would be the coolest thing for them to do, the most sensible thing for them to do, the most emotionally or thematically resonant thing for them to do, the best nod to that dope move in the martial arts flick i just watched, etc, and then whatever i settle on i try to depict as clearly as i can. then if there's room for textual flourishes i'll spruce it up some.

Judo wasn't really a direct influence over book 1's fight scenes - i think the first judo-centric martial arts film i've seen was Sanshiro Sugata (1943), and i saw that one for the first time in may of 2022, too late to influence book 1. hilarious movie for fight choreography btw, he just fucking shuffles up and GETS them and then they fly across the room and almost die and it keeps happening. beautiful.

that said, there's some tussles coming up in book 2 that give a nod to Judo! this is because i've been getting way into Sumo lately and Judo has a good playbook to help in Sumo bouts. also Judo is a great style for someone who is too depressed to regularly keep herself in peak condition, because a lot of it is about putting what force you have to best use, and using your enemy's force against them. Wing Chun is also good for folks who aren't in the best shape, so that's another of my justifications as to why she talks that one up.

and finally, caves of qud as a game is one that has sadly underdeveloped (though not nonexistent!) barehand combat support, so there's a bit less inspiration i can pull directly from the game. mokou's new in town anyway, so she hasn't had a chance to soak in the styles regardless. i'm gonna take this opportunity to plug the Qud-Fu - Mixed Martial Arts Skills mod which i keep meaning to install and play around with but so far haven't. but if i do it strikes me as one very likely to show up in the fic XD

Tav Posting Part 2!

So, for my next campaign I decided to play my irl dnd character Nami Peros! Unfortunately a lot of important details about her, such as her race, goddess and subclass aren't available in the game organically so I had to download a couple more mods to truly make an authentic 1:1 adaptation to BG3.

Introducing Nami Peros!

Water Genasi Grave Cleric Goddess: Eldath in campaign Selune

AKA: Best fish gal around!! I actually LOVE how her design turned out in game, and to see her fully realized like this and being able to PLAY AS HER in game has been such an awesome experience. Shout out to the developers on Nexus Mods for the Elemental Power Genasi Mod and the Cleric Subclasses Release mod that made her run possible!

A little bit about her lore, my friends and I are still pretty early in our campaign but her basic backstory is that she is a half genasi/half elf; her marid mother is far, far, in the elemental plane and her father a humble elven seafarer. She grew up lonely, longing for a maternal presence in her life when she came upon the Goddess Eldath, Mother of the Waters, and began her worship as a way to fill the void her mother left. She often accompanied her father on his voyages, a healer is always needed on board, lest there be sickness, monsters, or pirates that lurk deep in the waters.

She always felt more comfortable when surrounded by sea anyway, closest to her element, her mother's love, and Eldath. After witnessing many losses and deaths in her childhood, witnessing many crew members lost due to illness or the perils that lie at sea, she turned to her worship and solidified her role as a grave cleric to at least keep the tempest of death at bay until they could dock at the nearest port to the closest temples. Professional big sister, aspiring pacifist, while in town Nami enjoys meeting the local townspeople and often stays at the local temple to lend a helping hand. She loves her nomadic lifestyle, comforted by the stability of her father's presence in her life, the unshaken solidity of her faith, and excited by the thrill of adventure and discovery, journeying through all that the material plane has to offer. She wants to venture to the Elemental Plane one day to find her mother, see if she lives or dies, and explore her marid heritage.

For the rest of our party, I was more than happy to adapt their characters into the BG3 character maker and will introduce them here:

Resident Hot Guy Cinder Fire Genasi Barbarian Party Guide (played by DM) Nami's crush?

Our DM is extremely proficient in creating drop dead gorgeous himbos and twunks, and our boy Cinder here does NOT disappoint. Poor boy can't lie to save his life, nor let those around him needlessly suffer. Selfless to the point of being a little aloof, has no real need for money or possessions as he too wanders around town to town responding to local bounty postings and working to protect those around around him as a shining beacon of earnesty than leaving behind a wildfire of destruction. Has a connection to the local thieves guild? Folk Hero In Over His Head™️

Chaos Gremlin Inkling Tiefling Rogue lives to be Nami's mortal enemy

"Inkling is a rogue thiefling. She has made a name for herself at acquiring the seemingly impossible. Gold, treasure, art she can find anything for a price. The scars she carries are covered with intricate markings. Their significance know only to her; everyone else has perished long before she reached adulthood. Delicate and bold lines trace across her skin in stark contrast to her lilac skin. Inkling has known only fear and prejudice, as a half demon most people cower under her gaze or sidestep her presence entirely. If everyone views you as a monster might as well embrace the flames and make money while you are at it 😈😈." -- PC for Inkling's description of her

Yes she and Nami butt heads ALL. THE. TIME.

Cool guy Druid (don't look at explosions) Dretchroyaster AKA Dretch

"Dretch is to never return to his village, lest he has a death wish. A former sentinel of his clan the Royasters, Dretch was always seen as someone of an outcast. His green scales marked him as part of the Ashwen lineage, a clan that was born from the blood of one of the most malicious dragons, Ashwenezl. Ashwenezl had killed many, using his poisonous saliva to poison the wells and water supply of any village that dared to setup near his forest.

Thousands of years have passed since Ashwenzl lived, but the human descendants of those who were terrorized by the dragon do not forget. Three villages conspired to get revenge among the Dragonborns that lived in the forest. Three villages went into the woods, waiting for the darkness of night to strike. As they approached the campsite of where these Dragonborns lived, one villager set the forest ablaze.

Dretch was on duty that night, and was among the first to see the sparks of flames that soon engulfed their homes. In a moment of haste, Dretch made a decision that would forever alter his life and mark him as an outcast among his clan; he warned the neighboring druids first. Dretch did not think, he knew that a majority of the Dragonborns in his clan were fire resistant, that their sturdy scales would protect them from any burns. But the creatures that lived nearby, the ones who cared for and neutered the trees, did not. He went as fast as he could, but made the error of not sounding the alarm. He was able to warn the Druids in time for enough to escape, but the lack of the warning bell left his fellow clanmates in the dark. They did not realize they were among an ambush until it was too late.

The Dragonborns were eventually able to fend off the villagers, and many died in this attack. Many were from the three villages. But five Dragonborns died that night, among them the daughter of the Clan Leader, Tzark. Dretch had dishonored his clan, an unforgivable sin among the Dragonborn" -- as written by PC for Dretch

Soft Boy Gonk Gluronk! Half-Orc Rogue/Painter Extraordinaire

"Gonk Gluronk is a half-orc rogue who, while seeming big and tough on the outside, is kind and gentle on the inside. Throughout his youth, pure necessity facilitated his rogue capabilities. As a small boy, his village was taken siege by a raging tyrant, whose friends in high places turned a blind eye to the violence and inequality. Gonk did not appreciate seeing the people he loved be taken advantage of, so he decided to do something about it. He became somewhat of a village myth, as rumors of his good deeds done by not so good means began to make their way around the locals. Defying the tyrant, Gonk has had a target on his back since he was a teenager, but with the village behind him, the tyrant has never been able to prove Gonk guilty. Now, as the tyrant grows older and weaker, he fears retribution from the very villagers he has oppressed." -- as written by PC for Gonk

One of the only characters who the BG3 character creator did sooo dirty!!! Our half orc here is actually a handsome handsome boy, and I wish (I should go digging through nexus) there were more facial options for half-orcs :( Here is another render of Gonk through Heroforge!

I tried to be as faithful as I could to his counterpart here and worked with what I had!! 😭😭

Last but not least, our mysterious Mikhail Elf Druid/Shapeshifter

Mikhail's PC hasn't provided a backstory just yet, as he's the newest addition to our party but trust me he is a very grumpy and mysterious emo boy.

During our first encounter with him, we found him trapped in a cage surrounded by goblins in an underground cave. He was cloaked, his hood hiding his face before we had taken care of the goblins and freed him. When he rose and pulled back his hood, Nami was taken aback to find that the stranger wore her face exactly. A perfect match, a one to one copy, and the shock of it all hung in the air for a few beats until Nami gently placed her hand in camaraderie to the figure who wore her face. "You are just like me," she remarked softly, smiling sweetly even, ....... and cast Inflict Wounds. 9HP Nami had chunked half his HP in one go, and he quickly backtracked to reveal his true self as Mikhail, one of the 3 leaders of the Thieves Guild, on a mission to solve a mystery. He's hot.

Oh boy, here we go! Much angst. Complicated, messy characters & dynamics. Very intense people being very passionately (toxically) in love. Someone is a virgin. Ruthless highlighting of imperfections. Overly poetic eye descriptors. A recipe for pure self-indulgence!

8.) Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

Oh no. Dialogue is the worst!! Probably my proudest moments are the dirtiest or the harshest, no in between. Though I will say a lot of my proudest writing moments period were from Contempt. Dialogue included!

"A great love story, is it not? The gold digging whore and the cock hungry slut live happily ever after."

"What do you know about happiness? What do you know about love?"

"You presume --"

"You were obsessed with my mother! You're bitter she married my dad, just like you're bitter I'm marrying Ginny."

This is just a piece of it, but that whole back and forth between Harry and Snape is so fun. I tried to keep them both in character, neither really backing down. It begins with Snape lashing out, Harry tries to get his bearings, Snape twisting every new topic back around to wound Harry with it, Harry not putting up with any of it. It has the angst! It has the rudeness! It has my boys butting heads! What more could a gal want?

I do! She is a fickle creature. I've named her Renata. (Listen, my car has a name. My phone has a name. My laptop has a name. Why wouldn't my muse have a name?)

I was talking to ripeteeth last week about beautiful prose, and how I like to pluck random lines and tuck them in my pocket to think about all day long; and how I love the taste of the words in my mouth, repeating them over and over. I'm such a sucker for beautiful strings of words, so my favorite writers are those whose works I read and I walk away with pockets full of gold nuggets.

@perverse-idyll, whose works I've loved the longest! I've returned to her works time and again for over a decade! She writes Snarry so perfectly in my eyes; crafts the characters so true to form, and their dynamic is just as dark and explosive as I love it. Everything that drew me to Harry and to Snape and to them as a couple, PI provides. I could cry at the perfection of it. And I've honestly not been able to stop thinking about the latest chapter of The Afterlight since I read it! I don't have words enough to express my love of PI's work, so I'm just gonna wave her own words in your face in the hopes that you might understand:

Sitting absolutely still, consulting instincts or morals or who the fuck knows, Snape levelled a long, narrow look across the table. Long and narrow like so much else about him, with the smoulder of a low flame just beginning to lick at spilled fuel. It could have been contempt or calculation, or the effects of drinking whisky that literally burned.

It could be that Harry had just lit a match. (The Afterlight, chapter 3)

@ripeteeth who is probably most definitely a genius. I will blind rec teeth to you. "Oh teeth posted a new fic I've not read and know nothing about? You should totally read it."; "Oh, teeth posted a fic for a fandom I've never even heard of? Cool. Count me in." They have such a fascinating way of looking at things, and they craft stories in such a unique way. It's brilliant and different and absolutely stunning. They portray people and life in that merciless way I love; like they dug through the gutter; like they're elbows deep, digging into the gut; mud and blood and smearing it on the wall. All of the things no one else would think to see worth or beauty in, and they create a masterpiece with it. Blow me away, teeth!

@liladiurne whose work has the timeless quality of the classics. So much thought and care goes into everything that she does! She has so many interesting ideas; new ways to paint the world, new ways of looking at the characters. She is an explorer and an inventor both! And she tells of love so beautifully; sweet agony dressed in silk and pearls.

And so, it was clear to me, from the moment I felt his hand upon my back, that this touch was meaningful. Harry was not one for unnecessary or superfluous contact. He touched things because he wanted to, because he was unafraid of them and wanted to know their secrets. He touched what he deemed important. (Certain Dark Things, Chapter 2)

Warnings: Violence, readers a bounty hunter expect some death and torture, suggestive themes for Sevika's part

a/n: Had so much fun writing this, sorry it took a while, had some irl stuff ^-^

Jinx

Silco hired you occasionally for quick jobs, so you'd rarely spent time in office unless you were picking up your payment or getting details on a hit.

But after he permanently brought onto his team, you'd spend a few good hours listening to his boring plans and business rants, you're eyes wandered the room, eventually spotting a girl around your age laying on a support beam, shortly after that you become friends and then more than friends

She was completely captivated with your job, in her mind you were like some god-like ninja that got paid for blowing stuff up and killing people

When you pointed out that you had the same job as Sevika her jaw went slack and she let out a very dramatic gasp,

"No, no! But you're like cool!"

She always begged to go on jobs with you, claiming that her bombs would get it done way faster, you rarely let her come with you and if you did you had to shake her down for any explosives.

Once the two of you became closer and began staying at each other's houses, swapping clothes, sleeping in the same bed, typical couple stuff, Jinx would frequently steal your knife or gun holsters to decorate them, covering the dark stained leather in bright splotches of color and her signature.

If you have a rough day she tries her best to cheer you up, bringing you something new she's working on or stealing a bag of candy so you can snack on it while the two of you chat, she thought she wasn't the best at comforting people but her presence is comforting enough.

Vi

Vi has done her fair share of crimes, she knows what it's like on the streets, how dangerous and relentless people can be, she often worried about your safety, even though you weren't working under anyone she couldn't shake the thought of someone forcing you to kill

Nonetheless she always supported you, once a month she'd run a bath before you got home from work and made your favorite meal, it was something you looked forward to and gave you a reason to keep fighting

You trained together a ton, after you moved into an apartment together you turned the guest bedroom into a home gym.

Vi matched your skill level so training fight either went on for 30 minutes or ended in a bloody nose,

"You keep doin' that and I'm gonna turn into a masochist" "You ARE a masochist."

When it came to safer missions, like retrieving items or kidnapping people, you'd bring Vi along, mostly just so you could let blow off some steam by punching assholes in the face.

Sevika

wifey time

She was the one that suggested you'd join her profession, she knew your skills and how tired you were of staying home reading the same books over and over again

She kept her eye on you for the first few months, coincidentally she always managed to be on the same mission on you, she definitely told silco to hook her up

She knew how emotionally tolling the job could be on you, especially since you were new to it all, she's not the best at comforting people but she'll be by your side with her human arm over your shoulder, her presence more comforting than any words could ever be.

Sevika LOVES teaching you tips and tricks, at first it caught you off guard that she was talking casually about such morbid topics, but then you found yourself arguing about the quickest and cleanest way to kill someone.

"Jesus did you shove your hand in a blender?" "Nope, just punch hard." "You ever considered uh I dunno, a weapon?"

Similarly with Vi, Sevika will train with you all the time, it's never a fair fight with that arm of hers, and she TOTALLY doesn't deliberately pin you to the floor or a wall just to see you squirm and whimper.
