"I think it’s really strange that there’s been absolutely no mention of Jeff for ages. Not since Georgie was a kid. Like did they have a falling out? Does he not care about her anymore?? His “trying to be a better big brother” arc was too short lived. I hope they bring him back! Recasted or otherwise."

Romantic Reading for Valentine's Week ♥️ I decided to read a few books that had been sitting on my shelf for a long time because I'm usually not partial to the romance genre. I have Together, Apart; an anthology that caught my eye because I follow one of the authors, Erin A. Craig. Then, Written in the Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur on reference from a bookish friend; an lgbtq+ romance novel.
Together, Apart is a collection of short romantic stories set during the beginning of the pandemic. The intended audience is teenage readers. Theres a lot of themes around the shut down; loneliness, isolation, and life being suddenly shut down for the school year. There is an inclusion of lgbtq+ stories as well. This is a very innocent, sweet read.
Written in the Stars is an adult romance novel. I honestly didn't expect there to be sexual content, and I don't know why because I know it's an adult romance, but I just wasn't aware that sexy books were just laid out on front tables of the B&N. The setting was actually during winter, so this could be a seasonal read. The characters must go to Thanksgiving dinner, and they have to wear sweaters, and theres an eminent Christmas Party. It reads like you're watching a Romcom, and it's really a fun story. There is a theme of stars and astrology, or astronomy, but the facts are extremely surface level. You'd have had to be absent in elementary school to not know the moon and constellation facts. As for their astrological charts, they never actually compare their compatibility based on their signs despite there being an emphasis on dating compatibility. The writing is casual and easy to read. My only hiccup is that there are two narrators, and they interchange within the chapters. There is a separation on the page, but their names aren't the title of the chapters like in many other books. I found myself reading straight through without realizing I was in the perspective of the other girl before it was too late, and ai had to backtrack a little to get myself back on track. There are distinct differences in the two characters though, so don't be deterred that the story may be confusing. It wasn't a huge distraction.
