this recipe is third generation, and after several attempts to 'breed' a dark crystalline glaze, I stumbled on this;

this would be a good example of cobalt and nickel competing for crystal coloration. it's a greener hue in person, but with so much refraction going on, photographing it has been difficult. another stable glaze, in terms of crazing and keeping up with the porcelain.

when soaked in acid to leach excess oxides;

quite different!

trying to think of a good name for this result...

and still trying to get a fully deep/dark crystalline glaze. already have some ideas from this result though, testing that out next firing!

Update to my leather project post

I am very dumb, thank you. Despite the half-assed efforts of 2 people in my head and 3 people not in my head, I'm still alive and doing things. So, the very concentrated urea solution (now about 5 times more concentrated is being left to evaporate down into crystals. I'm disappointed because the solution is still kinda very dark but the crystals are almost clear (but super tiny). So, I thought I'd have already been able to test some of my theories but that didn't happen. Once I actually pull out the crystals I'll be able to at least test the urea+table sugar and urea+starch on a small scale to get a general feel for how it's gonna be. I'm disappointed with my scoby's growth, so I'm gonna be leaving that for at least a month more before I actually test the thing I want to. Anyway, to the 3 people who will read this, stay safe and have fun!

Danny feels exhausted. His stupid ghost-puberty is annoying, and is affecting even his human form. Which wouldn’t be that bad, except for the fact that instead of having a simple elemental or obsession core, he happens to have a Space one. Technically the Space Core seeing as apparently he’s the newborn Ancient of Space. Or something. 

Urgh, he just wants to get some food from the dollar store down the street, not deal with whatever attempted mugging this is. He’s hangry, and just wants to get some food and curl back up in his mass of blankets back in his tiny apartment. 

So maybe he overreacted. He might have released his very careful hold on his less-than human traits that have been attempting to leak through the last several weeks. On the bright side, he, uh, isn’t hungry anymore and is now back in his nest of blankets. 

On the other hand, there is now a vigilante in his window.

Look at my gems, boy

I know I'm mostly a specbio account these days, but I felt like drawing some other guys of mine. These four are my hnk ocs that live on the moon because you can't just make a bunch of gems without putting some of them up there! I'll put some info about them too, for funsies.

So my hnk story takes place mostly on a volcanic island and is about what happens when some gems are separated from their normal society and try to start their own. These guys all live on the moon but have their connections to earth too.

Biphosphammite / 1.5 / Was born and taken from the volcanic island before anyone else set foot on it, and they were used in several experiments about inclusion behavior. After that, they were allowed to live on the moon and they quite like it, but they wonder what they're missing out on back on earth.

Pallasite / 5ish / Had a different identity back on earth, but they were kidnapped and offered a way to save themself if they agreed to help take more gems. They were repaired with a meteorite that landed on the moon and took its name and appearance. They don't like their new job and frequently sneak down to the volcanic island to hang out, but just as frequently are they taken back to work.

Stishovite / 7ish / Was once a quartz born on the volcanic island but got caught up in an accident that left their body a mix of glassy impact debris and without any memories. They became friends with Pallasite during one of their visits to the volcanic island and followed them to the moon once. They're having fun but they're kind of clueless about what's actually going on with anyone.

Salt & Pepper Diamond / 10ish / A diamond who washed up on the shores of the canon island missing legs, arms and half of their head. They were told that they were born this way, but they frequently had dreams about having them stolen and became unsure. They were taken to the moon by Pallasite but agreed to switch sides to buy themself more time to figure out what happened to them.

I think some people need to get it through their skulls that settler colonialism is an inherently genocidal system. Calling for an end to the violence but not a return of Indigenous land is simply a call for the genocide to continue in a quieter and more polite fashion.

I don't think a lot of people realize that the genocide of Indigenous people worldwide living under settler colonialism is ONGOING. You CANNOT truly see the end of a colonial genocide without an end to the colonialism. As long as Indigenous people are alive, colonizers will find a way to justify and deny genocide because the foundation of 'their' country necessitates the removal and subjugation of the Indigenous population. Indigenous survival is an act of rebellion, one you MUST believe in. You cannot give up on Indigenous people or believe that they are gone, no matter how hard colonizers try to wipe them out. You cannot trust the slander colonizers will spew about how they had to do what they did, about how Indigenous people are all savages who are coming for their women and children, or are somehow unworthy of their country. You can't trust colonizers' fearmongering about how a return of Indigenous land will result in the expulsion and death of all settlers. You CAN'T believe colonizers when they say what they're doing isn't genocide.

The playbook of settler colonialism is old, barely updated because the forces of greed and racism inherent to it have yet to be properly deconstructed. I'm seeing the same tactics used in the genocide of my people that started hundreds of years ago being broadcast live to the world and some people are STILL going along with it. Time and time again people like to 'forget' that it is plainly and explicitly to the benefit of colonizers to dehumanize the colonized so they can steal what is rightfully theirs without opposition and then lie about what they did. As long as the colonial system remains, colonizers have motivation to destroy the Indigenous population physically and culturally, they'll just get less obvious about it. Call this what it is and DON'T be satisfied until the land is returned to its rightful stewards. Palestine MUST be free, you either support decolonization or you support genocide 🇵🇸
