Funny story; I wasn’t planning on attending. I’m on vacation right now and today I was touring the city when I got a message from my friends informing me that they had an extra VIP ticket for a convention.

Since I’m not from the area they wanted me to explore inside Long Beach’s convention center. So hence I joined them and boy was I SHOOK at the voice actors in attendance. Overall I had a great time, met cool people, and saw so much cool stuff to buy.

It’s been a few years since the last time I attended an anime convention (Anime Expo 2018 traumatized me).

P.S.

Bryce Papenbrook is the definition of a literal Angel. Not even my own wedding will top off those 5 minutes my friends and I had with him.

Lembra do primeiro julgamento do Magneto?

A Marvel está produzindo uma minissérie chamada: “O Julgamento de Magneto”.

Não sei se você sabe, mas o primeiro julgamento do personagem foi em X-Men 200 de dezembro de 1985. A edição, escrita por Chris Claremont, com arte de John Romita Jr. e Dan Green é parte de uma das grandes aporrinhações do roteirista, que precisou adaptar conceitos porque o editorial mudou o rumo de algumas de suas histórias.

Só pra te situar:

Claremont tinha um plano para a edição 150 do título que envolvia uma Jean Grey lobotomizada sendo tentada pelo poder da Fênix. O ponto é que Jim Shooter, fazendo a sua melhor rainha de copas mandou que cortassem a cabeça da ruiva.

Ele teve que criar duas histórias as pressas:

A edição 150 veio com uma história sobre o Magneto, onde ele passa dos limites e acaba matando toda a tripulação do submarino Russo Leningrado. Já a edição 161 mostraria Erick e Xavier contra o Barão Strucker. E pronto, estava pavimentada a estrada para a edição 200 do título. Na edição, que seria um divisor de águas na vida do Mestre do magnetismo, ele seria julgado em Paris, o que causou um tremendo caos na cidade porque um grupo de terroristas, que se identificavam como os X-Men começaram a promover diversos ataques terroristas caso Magneto não fosse libertado.

Mas eles eram os X-Men?

Na verdade, nem os X-Men sabiam quem eram naquele momento. Parte deles havia retornado de uma aventura Asgardiana, outra parte estava na Mansão tentando entender a história de Rachel Summers, que afirmava ser a filha do Ciclope de um futuro alternativo. Enquanto isso, seu pai estava as voltas com o nascimento de Nathan Charles, o bebê que viria a se tornar o Cable e estava exercitando suas habilidades de pai medíocre, querendo abandonar a esposa prestes a dar a luz, algo que ele faria sem dó nem piedade pouco depois disso. E ao redor disso, tinha o dilema do Professor X, cujo corpo recém-clonado estava morrendo. Completamente perdidos, os X-Men foram arrastados para a confusão em Paris E precisaram lidar com Fenris, os gêmeos do Barão Strucker, que por acaso, também eram mutantes.

E sim, os tais terroristas eram eles.

Enquanto os mutantes X-Men saiam na porrada com os filhotes da ditadura nazista, Magneto, que estava dando uma de bom menino em seu julgamento, resolveu proteger os humanos que o viam como o Adolf Hitler do fim do século. Aqui vale um adendo. Apesar de eu ainda não ter dito isso, a acusação do magneto teve James Jaspers como representante e Gabrielle Haller foi sua advogada de defesa. Sabe quem também é Haller? David Haller, o Legião, é filho de Gabrielle e Charles Xavier. Quanto ao Jaspers, bem… Mad Jim Jaspers foi um personagem criado por Alan Moore para as aventuras do Capitão Britânia. Ele tem o poder de alterar a realidade a seu bel prazer. E Claremont gostou tanto do conceito que resolveu usar o personagem no evento Queda dos Mutantes. E foi por isso que ele apareceu nessa edição. O autor tinha planos que foram frustrados pelo editorial. Quando a queda aconteceu, ele teve de criar outro personagem em cima da hora para fazer as vezes de antagonista.

Resumo da ópera:

Quando toda a confusão é resolvida, Xavier cai duro e chama o amigo pra tocar os X-Men na sua ausência. No fim da edição, ele foi levado por sua amada Lilandra pro espaço, onde ele poderia ser tratado. Sim, a raposa foi convidada pra cuidar das galinhas. E ele ficou do lado dos anjos até o final da década. O que até funcionou porque o tom das histórias dos X-Men foi ficando cada vez mais pesado e Magneto praticamente só cuidava dos Novos Mutantes.

Algumas considerações:

O uniforme do magneto é muito feio. John Romita Jr. tem muitas habilidades, mas não é estilista. A história é interessante, mas tipo assim… seguindo o exemplo da edição 150, foi uma edição comemorativa sem muito glamour. Tem praticamente o mesmo número de páginas que as edições normais, mas serviu como ponto de virada tanto para os X-Men como para o Magneto, que mudou de lado por uns tempos. Por mais que retirar o Professor X do título por uns tempos já seja uma ideia batida, essa foi a primeira vez em que o personagem retornou como vilão. Que foi o que aconteceu durante a saga dos Skruls Guerreiros que começou por volta da edição 275.

A intenção foi amadurecer um pouco o título e seus temas, mas bem… o editorial não quis isso.

O Ciclope, que já vinha sendo mostrado como um idiota desde a morte da Jean Grey, ganhou um novo demérito: marido e pai ausente. Ele até tentou dar uma sossegada com a Madelyne Pryor, que lembrava demais a Jean, por motivos que descobriríamos depois, mas ele queria fugir das responsabilidades o tempo todo. Se você é fã da Capitã Marvel, saiba que o tratamento razoável que ela tem tido é recente. Carol Danvers sempre foi uma personagem que ninguém sabia o que fazer com ela, tanto que nessa fase dos X-Men ela tinha sido mandada pro espaço. Ela virou a Binária, a Fênix dos Piratas Siderais. Foi a partir dessa edição que Kitty Pryde descobriu que era míope e que apesar de ser uma X-Men, precisaria usar óculos. Ela não conseguiu ler os cartazes e achou que estava vendo uma das muitas manifestações antimutantes que estavam acontecendo em paris naquele momento, só que… aqueles eram pró mutantes.

Conclusão:

É da primeira fase do Claremont nos X-Men? É bom e vale uma lida. Praticamente todos os bons conceitos da franquia foram criados nessa fase. A fase até tem umas derrapadas, mas vale muito apena. E isso é tudo. Até a próxima semana. Read the full article
