Tai, I'm supposed to be taking a lil break from socials right now, but I peeked at Tumblr just in time to see your weirdly rude pansmione ask and like...can I say I love that you're writing fpreg? Not enough of it out there imo! I'm a big mpreg lover so fpreg is just as nice to me.
Mpreg gets lots of hate, too, so I wouldn't be surprised if your anon took umbrage with that, too. But it's magic! MAGIC! Also: fiction. Idk how anyone's made it this far into fandom not understanding the concepts of magic or fiction but here we are...🤷‍♀️
Not to get graphic, but I can imagine all sorts of creative ways to make fpreg happen. Magical orgasms! Magical sex toys. Magical RITUALS. Lady peen. Lady parts saying hello and magic taking care of the rest. Etc. etc.
Also yeah hecka offensive to be like "why would you write...?" Cuz I feel like it. Cuz this fandom is for us and what brings us joy. And if it doesn't bring you joy it's not for you. Which is fine. But maybe mind your business and not rain on other people's parades? And "pointless"? There is nothing pointless about anyone's stories. There is so much to be gained from people sharing their creativity and perspectives, even if it doesn't speak to you personally.
Clearly I got heated on your behalf, Tai, oops. Mostly I came here to tell you how I'm personally stoked about your marriage law Pansmione. Like mega stoked. That sounds like exactly what my life needs. And I'm gonna need SOMEONE to please inform me once it's up so I can go devour it, please and thank you.
WLW 100% deserves to have all the fun, interesting, unique stories. Out there stories. Complicated stories. Difficult stories. Weird stories. Trope-filled stories. Subversive stories. Every story. Because WLW deserve that representation and variety and more wonderful stories to choose from. And we could all do more with supporting one another. Support creators. Support there being more stories of all sorts, so that everyone out there has a chance to find the right story for them. Spreading negativity does no good for anyone at all.
Love you, Tai! I, at least, am over here cheering for you!
Danni, your message felt like a big big hug. I believe that we would all benefit from some intense DON'T LIKE DON'T READ approach. Mainly, bc this is our hobby and we are entitled to write whatever we want. It's fiction. It's magic. We can curate our experience in fandom.
And we all deserve a positive, encouraging and warm place to rest our hearts and creativity.
Thanks so much, darling! Sharing your messa here in main bc everyone deserves to read your lovely reminder! Sending u loads of love!

Hello!! 1, 6, & 12 please! 💛
Choosing Violence Ask Game
1. the character everyone gets wrong
Hmm, I actually don't know? The ones that come to mind are Ron, Bellatrix, and Draco. For different reasons. But for all of them, it's less of a generalisation and more of a "there are common characterisations or tropes that I don't like" LMAO. I'm in a few circles where ron-bashing is really popular and I just can't, I don't like bashing in general and I really hate it for Ron especially, he deserves better. For Bellatrix... it's really more of a me problem in that I can't see a redemption arc for her that doesn't start early in the first war, and ANYTHING that tries to start it later or doesn't explain how it happened instantly is a No for me because in my head, that makes no sense and that's not how I can visualise her character in any way. For Draco... he just annoys me and since I stopped being a fan of drarry I actually haven't? read? more than one or two fics or headcanons about him that didn't make me go no that's not him he's worse.
This goes with the obligatory reminder that I'm a hypocrite and I KNOW people think the exact same thing about my portrayal of Narcissa, so it's absolutely not meant to be a dig at anyone or rude towards fans. I just heavily disagree with the above characterisations.
6. which ship fans are the most annoying?
Oh you wanna see me cancelled.
It's jegulus and rosekiller, specifically the ones in specific twitter and tiktok circles (mainly bc on tumblr I don't encounter them bc the tag system here sorta works). I don't have an explanation. They're just annoying and they know it and they seem to take pride in it. And it's not ALL of them, definitely. There's a bunch of jegulus shippers I follow who are perfectly nice people. But in the same way that certain Sides (ngl, I was a part of those sides at 14) of the drarry fandom were annoying.. some jegulus fans can be super annoying. They give tiktok fans a bad rep, is my personal theory.
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
YES POSITIVE ENDING
Narcissa and Rodolphus. Because they're GOOD. No. They're heinous. I love them.
The most chaotic and despicable Evil Best Friends? wlw mlm solidarity on the Evil side? he's a horse guy with a bad taste in men and the only one willing to put up with Narcissa's dramatics for a whole lifetime. I love them so much. I have so many thoughts. But also I don't ever want them to get popular the way Regulus or Evan has gotten popular. I wanna keep them. I want them to stay in my head and the heads of less than 100 people on tumblr. please.

Tomarrymort Dead Dove Recs, Part 2 🕊️
Thank you all for the wonderful reception to Part 1 of Tomarrymort Dead Dove recs! I was honestly blown away by the interest in this first list featuring Non-Con/Dub-Con recs. It was so incredibly heartening to see that the open-mindedness towards the taboo, the degenerate, the ‘problematic’ is not only alive and well, but thriving, in this ship, when it seems like it’s been reviled and sanitized out of other ships and communities and spaces within this fandom and elsewhere. But Tomarrymort readers seem to be a special breed 🤝 and I’m just so glad we can all be horny sickos together 🤍
For Part 2 of the Dead Dove rec list, the first half is comprised of incest fics, and the second half is chan (underage) fics. These aren’t all necessarily dark fic in terms of tone or plot (some fics are actually quite cozy); the dead dove label just serves as an indicator to take the tags seriously.
Please note there is potentially triggering and disturbing content in the rec list below (including in some of the summaries), so I will be placing all 25 of these recs below the cut. Keep in mind don’t like; don’t read, so feel free to scroll on by if either incest and/or chan is not a theme you would like to explore.
This list was made in collaboration with @danpuff-ao3’s Dead Dove Diaries Series. Check it out for other HP dead dove recs!

Tomarrymort Incest Recs
Fruit of the Forbidden Tree (part 1) / Forbidden Indulgence (part 2) / Forbidden Darkness (part 3) by @neurowriter14 (E, 19k, complete)
The true parentage of Harry Potter was unknown to everyone except for three people. None remain, but another figures it out.
Hold Me Down (Fuck Me Up) by @itsevanffs (E, 15k, WIP)
Tom Riddle, chief of police, first met his nephew Harry Potter handcuffed to his desk, lip cut and knuckles bleeding, a proud smile on his lips and challenge in his eyes.
I Could Send You to Hell, I Know You by @dividawrites (E, 7k, complete)
Nothing about Harry Potter intrigues Tom—he's average in everything, doesn't act out in class, doesn't do very much at all, in fact. When he finds out they're related, though, this changes at once. After all, there's something to be said for family traditions.
In The Dark by @itsevanffs (E, 64k, WIP)
Harry's mother remarries shortly after his father's death to James' half-brother, Thomas, much to Harry's confusion and disgust. First a duke, now a king, it seems that nothing will stand in his uncle's way when it comes to getting what he wants. Not Lily, not propriety, and most certainly not Harry himself.
Infinite by @duplicitywrites (E, 8k, complete)
Harry and his twin brother Tom have the same mark. The same soulmate. Whoever their soulmate is, wherever they may be, they will go to Tom. Tom, however, has other plans.
Little Bits by @lordmarvoloriddle (E, 10k, complete)
Inspired by Cinderella. Only there's no prince, and surely no one is singing about their feelings, and Harry's life could be a lot worse than having three step-brothers and a father who didn't like him. He's going to be proven right.
Plains of oblivion by @milkandmoon-ao3 (E, 3k, complete)
Trapped in the past with no way home, a disillusioned Harry executes a plan to make an ally of the rising Dark Lord and reshape history.
Say It Right (part 1) /  Say You'll Haunt Me (part 2) by @rightonthelimitt (E, 32k, complete)
After James Potter dies, his wife and son have it rough. Their lives change for good when they meet Tom Riddle four years later, but is it for the better?
Seventeen Years by RenderedReversed (T, 10k, complete)
Voldemort is a day old when he realizes he’s been reborn to muggle parents and that he has a twin brother. He is a year old when it sinks in who his twin could possibly be. Because his twin might, possibly, probably be Harry Potter.
Summer Break by anon (E, 5k, WIP)
A story of a brother's love and duty and terrible obsession.
the dark passenger by @cindle-writes (E, 5k, complete)
Harry had lived 17 years as a horcrux, and Ginny was possessed by another one, so is it all that surprising that their middle child reminds them a little bit too much of another boy they once knew?
*
Tomarrymort Chan (Underage) Recs
Below Stairs by pauraque (E, 1k, complete)
Harry receives a visitor.
conversationalist by worn (E, 3k, complete)
As a boy who's known silence and solitude well, Harry finds himself quickly growing attached to Tom Riddle's diary and the way it has so much to talk with him about.
Creatures of the Dark we are by @hikarimeroperiddle (M, 20k, WIP)
Banished to his cupboard at age 4, Harry learns to listen only to the Voice in his head. Its teachings wrap all around Harry until no more than dark magic and devotion remains, along with visions of a wraith with red eyes.
Everything Green Is Gold by @cindle-writes (E, 27k, complete)
Prior to Hogwarts, Harry had stayed mostly invisible to the teachers and adults around him his whole life. But Tom Riddle, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, looked at Harry like he was something to be wanted.
File A by @kushimanii (E, 7k, complete)
In a different universe, one where the prophecy was never heard and Voldemort won, Voldemort finds eight-year-old Harry Potter in the basement of Fenrir Greyback and takes him in.
he whistles and he runs by @wolfantlersinspace (E, 5k, complete)
"Tom," Harry murmured, ducking under a branch and nearly touching the top of Tom's diary with his lips, "I really don’t like this."
Hearthstone Abbey by @ramabear (E, 92k, WIP)
Harry follows Thomas Gaunt into his world much like he stepped onto Diagon Alley that first time, wide-eyed and full of wonder. He has no idea what exactly this world has in store for him, but he knows that with Thomas at his side, he is safe and happy for the first time in his whole life.
Make a Wish by @crowcrowcrowthing (E, 3k, complete)
Tom Riddle is wasting away in his hospital bed, far too young to succumb to such a terrible and mysterious illness. The only thing that gives him solace is the hope that football star Harry Potter might visit him in his final days.
Quam singulari by anon (E, 6k, complete)
Spermarche: the beginning of a boy's development of sperm; normally signifies a boy's beginning in sexual maturity and puberty.
shelter from the storm by @cindle-writes & @duplicitywrites (E, 7k, complete)
After being left behind by the Dursleys, Harry stumbles upon an empty shack in the middle of nowhere, where he finds a mysterious ring underneath the loose floorboards.
study session by @ilya-zzz (E, 3k, complete)
"Tom–" Harry tries, coughing a couple times before lifting his hands to his head, softly rubbing his temples a couple times. "...I think you should go back to your common room."
The Abyss by AislingSiobhan (E, 36k, complete)
Nietzsche was right: when fighting monsters, Harry should have been more careful not to become one himself. That didn’t matter anymore. It was too late to save himself, yet he could still save the world from Voldemort. But who would save Voldemort from him?
the eternal flame by @duplicitywrites (E, 25k, WIP)
There’s a well-dressed older man who enters the orphanage asking after Tom Riddle. The man’s green eyes fix on Tom’s face, searching and searching. “My name is Harry Gaunt,” the man says, the tenor of his voice soft and faltering, a reflection of Tom's deepest, most secret anxieties, “and I’m here to adopt you.”
This Is Why You Don't Summon Demons, Harry by @kushimanii (E, 59k, complete)
Harry Potter is seven when he's left at the nearby church by Petunia to get an exorcism. Instead, he ends up summoning a demon that he makes a deal with. The demon, Voldemort, will protect him, and in return, the demon will devour his soul when it is ripe.
Without A Chance by Harryfan80 (E, 20k, complete)
When Voldemort (as Quirrell) meets Harry in her first year at Hogwarts, he exploits her naivete and uses her to acquire the Sorcerer's Stone.

My top 5 Snape fics!
I wanted to share some of my Snape fics in the hopes that you will share yours with me in the comments or in your own posts. These are my personal favorites that I go back to reread the most. I have my own favorite tropes, so these are all somewhat angsty, hurt/comfort, and you might notice Snape gets bathed in several of these lol. Warning, these fics contain sexual content and are NOT appropriate for all ages.
5. Contempt, by Danpuff (2022)
Snarry
I don't normally like Snarry but this blew me away. This is the best enemies to lover fic I've ever read. The line between hate and love is thin my friends.
Excerpt:
The black and the white material hang open around Snape's thin frame. He's not beautiful anywhere, is he? Pasty skin with marks of discoloration. Old, faded scars. Wiry black hair. Concave chest, prominent ribs, soft belly. Harry feasts his eyes on the ghastly sight and trails reverent fingers down. Down over flat brown nipples and a long raised scar. Over a patch of rough, brown skin. Over coarse black curls. His skin is warmer than Harry expected.
4. The Underground, by me, Chiwi_la_Capybara (2023)
HG/SS
This is a shameless plug of my own fic. But it is one of my favorites.
Excerpt:
Snape licked his lips, looked up at her from beneath heavy eyelids. She looked carefully back at him, at the double wrinkle at the corner of each eye, and the purple semicircles that ringed his lower lids. The long thick black eyelashes gave his eyes a melancholy cast.
There was a certain magnetism about him. She lifted up the blanket and drew close to him, laid his head on her shoulder and anchored him to her. The warmth of his body against hers felt as close to sex as anything she had known in the past five years. He blinked at her sleepily, and his black eyes were two moons. Snape slept with his face pressed into the crook of her neck, his warm breath sputtering over her throat.
3. Traumlieder, by Rexluscus (2011)
Snape/Luna Warning, Luna is underage in this fic and there's dubious consent on both sides. This one's very smutty. Take this warning v seriously.
Snape being bewildered by Luna is such a joy. Rexluscus is an incredibly writer. They have this tone that's kind of sarcastic, kind of loving, and real perverse all at once.
Excerpt:
Snape dreamed of a creature. It had yellow hair and smelled like a cherry orchard, and it spoke with a voice both exotic and deeply, achingly familiar. Its hands were as delicate and fragile as a doll's, but its skin was warm and velvety as it tickled him below his navel. It was petting him, quieting him, and he was drifting into lassitude—all except for the exquisitely urgent want in his groin. The creature seemed aware of that; it was touching him there now, shocking like the touch of a naked flame, and as ecstasy radiated from his middle and flooded out the pain in his limbs he only now recognised by its absence... A warm breeze tickled his bare skin, and the creature laughed. He thought he could see its eyes somewhere far above him, round and lambent, like watery planets setting in a warm twilight.
2. Exaltation, by Eldritcher (2022)
Dudley/Snape.
I know Dudley and Snape sounds ick but trust me, its strange and wonderful. Only Eldritcher could have pulled this one off. Eldritcher once told me their writing has been influenced by the Greek poet Ovid, and you can tell.
Excerpt:
Harry was not taught to swim. Snape betrays the tell-tale signs of a man who has never learned to swim. Like Harry, Snape does not have fat on his bones to lift him up easy. He steps into the water, because Dudley asks him to. Dudley holds him by the waist, steadying him until he finds his level. Snape is pale, paler than the primroses closing and curling up for the night. It is all Dudley can do to refrain from catching the trembling bony shoulders to massage back the blood into circulation.
1. Self-Slain Gods on Strange Altars, Scumblackentropy (2013)\
SS/HG Warnings for an underage/student Hermione.
This is the fic that really got me into this fandom back when I was a teen. The writing is uneven, but Snape feels so real in this story.
Excerpt:
What, what, what?she asks herself as she slowly, slowly, slowly lets her palm flatten against his damp robes and slowly, slowly, slowly stands on tiptoe. His head pulls back as he tries to hold eye contact, but she never tries to look away. She vaguely registers that he has a long throat. Long. Muscled. Pale.
“You’re wrong.”
How?she asks herself as a strangled, indignant aching noise comes out of his mouth and she slowly, slowly, slowly presses herself into him, and his eyes widen in that way that breaks her heart, and she feels his blood-soaked body hard-angled and warm against hers, and she thinks that maybe she can forgive him.

5 Meta recs for Friday!
Happy Friday!!! <3 I read some really good meta on one of my fav author's writing process yesterday. So Meta Recs Friday! :D
My Writing Process by @squibstress
My name is Squibstress, and I am an unrepentant pantser.
This post is super poignant and really funny. It really shows fandom esp writing fic can be a lonely hobby and a social hobby at the same time. Also it's a super insightful look at not just the writing process because it's also about how the author thinks about the readers/reading experience.
I love, love, love the thoughtfulness Squibstress has for making reading more accessible. This is something you really only get in fandom. This extra attention to detail because it's a community and fandom is a garden <3 Personally I use a screen reader a lot and I can really tell the difference between fics which are going the extra mile for accessibiity on that.
Also TIL one of my fav authors is a pantser :D
Snarry-a-thon Recs by @danpuff-ao3
This is an incredible rec lists effort. Danpuff is making rec lists for Snarry-a-thon one of the longest running HP slash fests ever <3 Normally I don't have rec lists for meta posts but I feel this is such a brilliant meta level list. It's an amazing look at HP slash fandom evolution and also Snarry evolution. Insane levels of genres/tropes/characterization coverage! If you want to get a big picture Snarry fandom fic history this is the rec list for you!!
About Laugh and Forget (1) by @saehaerys
I am a big sucker for meta esp for fic meta for my fav fics. Laugh and Forget is a really dirtyhotbadwrong and super intense House of the Dragon/ASOIAF darkfic. PforPheobe's writing gives me serious Master and Margarita vibes because of that combo of darkness/humor/intense emotion. I have a Big Crush on their writing. Like I am not even a het incest reader but they sold me with their super dark emotional stories.
A bit under a year ago, one day in February, I had a horrible idea that Jaehaerys had coveted Saera and in his terrible covetousness he messed it all up, sending her away for cold repentance, and she fled from his face in mischief and utter disillusionment of their bond. It became increasingly unbearable for me to regard this passage of faux history.
I love fics written by authors with 100% commitment and love with their biggest Canon Feelings/Character Feelings inside it. This fic totally has that vibe. Really raw and super emotional.
The Lightning Struck Tower: “It is My Mercy, Not Yours That Matters Now” by @ashesandhackles
I really love the canon analysis meta from AshesandHackles. Honestly I am not a big reader of HP meta because it's a pretty old fandom and I feel like I don't really see a lot of value in meta at this point. But Ashesandhackles is brilliant at analysis and I feel like I just find new things to love about my fav characters and their parallels when I am reading their meta.
Harry recognises the flaw in the ending chapters of Deathly Hallows, and wins the Elder wand with an Expelliarmus too. Interestingly, it’s a spell Harry learnt by observing Snape in Duelling Club with Lockhart.
This one has incredible, incredible analysis of Snape, Harry and their relationships with Dumbledore. This is definitely not a shipping meta but I feel it's like 10x more powerful than a shipping meta because it just uses the canon to show the similarities/difference between the characters.
Re: Metrics by eldritcher
This is a funny and poignant personal post on writing stats/fandom stats.
Participating in fandom while refusing to buy into fandom's current metrics is a difficult position to take, because it's led to edgy questions now and then re: what keeps me in fandom since my metrics are pathetic (not my wording; my cousin deems anything below five-hundred kudos pathetic).
Artists/authors have a lot of emotional connection with stats for lots of valid reasons. I feel bad when my fav authors are worried about stats but also I totally get it. Eldritcher is pretty idgaf about stats except comments because they love being super chatty and meta on comments. But also it's totally impossible to ignore other stats sometimes. The meta has an interesting point. If you are somebody who cares a lot about your progress, then you got to measure something. But like what's the right thing to measure?

8, 9, and 15!
thank you very much for the ask, anon! and thank you to another mysterious stranger for picking a near-identical selection from the love your fandom ask game:
Tumblr media
5. what is something you see in fics a lot and love?
answered here.
8. you hope more people will come to appreciate ___
the power of multishipping and the power of writing any and all characters, in romantic pairings or otherwise.
i completely understand why people get very defensive over their faves and prefer not to imagine them in anything other than their preferred partnerships - particularly because i know that lots of people do genuinely get a lot of shit on account of their shipping preferences, especially [and my god wouldn't it be nice to get a grip on this] when that preference is for a canon m/f couple which has a major fanon slash rival - and i also understand that it can be tough to step outside of your comfort zone to face writing a character you don't immediately feel you have an instinctive grasp of.
but, lads, it's so fun! and - sure - it's good for you as a writer and as a human being to grapple with multiple perspectives and all that - but that's the crux of it. choose chuckles and write a crack fic today.
9. what is a ship that isn't your otp but that you enjoy?
snarry.
i obviously prefer both snape and harry with voldemort, but there's no doubt that the snarry girlies [gender neutral] are producers of the most extraordinarily magnificent stuff. if i am asked to name a fic which makes me cry and stare blankly into the middle distance, it's going to be @perverse-idyll's the white road. if i'm asked for filth i might recommend you eldritcher's a church without a steeple. if i'm asked for brilliant character studies of harry [and snape] after the war, i'm going to mention @danpuff-ao3's contempt or @titconao3's clay.
the snarry fandom has always seemed to me to consist of people who think really creatively and profoundly about life and love and all the questions therein. they're a great bunch of lads, and i do fear i'm getting closer and closer to taking the writing plunge all the time...
15. which character always makes you smile?
i've answered this here, saying ron, but when it comes to comic relief i'd like to - to my great regret - out myself as having recently become a great enjoyer of cormac mclaggen. if you had the misfortune - as i did - to attend a certain sort of english university, you will be familiar with his type [giant, obsessed with "the bants", and refreshingly stupid] and you will be familiar with making bad choices for men of that type. i can picture the jack wills polo he was wearing when they wheeled him into the hospital wing after he ate all those doxy eggs and - sigh - i love it.

Drawn for @snapecelebration's Week 2 prompt, "The Professor- Potions Master," but also I made this with @danpuff-ao3 in mind since she just celebrated her birthday! 🐝Happiest (belated) birthday, Danni! I hope it was an amazing one!💐 Thanks for all your sunshine, enthusiasm, for being such a great friend, and for you being you. Your contributions to fandom are recognized and much appreciated and loved, from modding fests to giving us some amazing Snarry stories we haven't seen before. It's clear how passionate you are about those two, especially our dearest Severus, what you write about, and that's what makes you a rock star. Your writing is gorgeous, and you're one of a kind. ❤️ I had a couple of ideas in mind for gifts, but something told me that it was time to break out the inks and paper to draw some Severus. So that's what I did. A little different from my usual style, using just 2 ink pens and white gel pen, and it was just really nice to keep things simpler and looser. I hope you like him (and his hair, bc that was a definitely a blast to draw). I definitely need to draw More Severus in the future, because uhh, his nose is actually kinda awesome to draw too? :P You can also view Speak Softly on AO3.

Some recs for @hprecfest
Day 1: A favorite fic under 5k
Harriet Potter Is by setepenre_set (Gen, T, 2k)
A short fic that's packed full of feels and awesomeness. Harriet gets sorted into Slytherin and that changes everything. I love the writing style of that fic!
Day 2: A comfort fic
Succor by pluperfectsunrise (Fem!Harry/Snape, E, 40k)
One of the first Fem!Harry/Snape fics I read, and I keep coming back to it. It's a soulmates fic that spans the entirety of canon. I love the way their relationship evolves over the years, and I especially like the say the author writes the intimacy between Harriet and Snape.
Day 4: A fic with art
The Curse of Anteros by @danpuff-ao3, illustrated by @mrviran (Harry/Snape, E, 53k)
This fic is such a whirlwind of tight, exquisitely crafted writing and all the Snarry feels one could want. Plus extra hot smut! And the art is incredible. Harry and Snape have to defeat a curse while also dealing with their attraction to each other... I don't want to say more, you should definitely go read the fic!
Day 6: An unreliable narrator fic
Forget-me-not by Elffaw (Harry/Snape, M, 1,5k)
The atmosphere in this fic is so ominous. When reading, you *know* something is wrong, and you keep wondering what until you reach the end... The author did such a good job at crafting the mystery!
Day 7: A canon-compliant fic
Year of the Thestral by @perverse-idyll (McGonagall/Snape and McGonagall/Hooch, E, 115k at the moment with two more chapters planned)
Let's say canon-compliant-ish? There's nothing in canon that says it couldn't have happened... This fic is a brilliant exploration of Snape's last year, with incredible writing and the best Snape descriptions I've ever had the pleasure to read. It's dark, it's harrowing, it's funny at times, and it will twist your soul into bits and leave you wanting more.
Day 8: A canon-divergence fic
Epitaph by sheswayout (Fem!Harry/Snape, M, 22k for now with more chapters planned)
Fem!Harry so obviously canon-divergent, and then Snape lives and Harriet starts visiting him in the hospital. It's a fic that looks at what happens in the wake of war, and how Snape and Harriet can go forward and perhaps do so together. It's soft and calm and self-reflective, and I love it.
Day 9: A rare pair fic (less than 2000 fics on AO3)
A Most Unexpected Turn of Events by @hirukochan (Fem!Harry/Snape/Voldemort, E, 62k with more chapters planned)
The perfect threesome. No, you can't change my mind. Hiruko is great at writing complex characters and hot smut, and this fic is a stellar example of both!
Day 10: A fest fic
Predetermined by brightened (Snape/Harry, E, 9k)
This fic features Snape as a smut writer, and just for that you should read it. It also has excerpts of the books Snape is writing, creating a narrative within the narrative, and it's so much fun to read!

Weekly WIP snip
I was devastated that I couldn't finish my HP-bodice ripper fic. I'm pretty much in love with the concept, the plot and the characters I'm exploring here. Unfortunately, I had to go to Brazil to take care of a family member (all good now). BUT I didn't manage to write, nor to meet the deadline. So I'd would like to introduce you to a snip of my new Femslash fic, Fleur/Pansy, explicit. I hope I can share the whole of it before Xmas. Tagging @tackytigerfic for the untagged wip snip.
A Pleasure of Our Own
Fleur Delacour blew our minds with her magistral debut as a magi-photographer. ‘I saw her soul’, her first exhibition, found its home in a small art gallery in the heart of Knockturn Alley after its post-war renovation. The exhibition is a compilation of 5 magical photos, most of them of a woman standing by the sea. The waves in the background of the pictures move slowly in a mix of greens and browns, the rocks and sand mixing with the white foam and grey sky. We can see the woman with a buzzcut turning slightly, we get a glimpse of her profile, the soft side of her lips turning up in a smile. It’s breathtakingly intimate, it feels like we are sneaking into the intimacy of lovers.
I tell this to Delacour when she offers me a cup of French coffee in the small kitchen area of her art studio in an unplotted location in the north of England.
“It is intimate,” she agrees, holding the cup of coffee close to her chest. “I took her photos during the war. I was newly wed and she had just discovered an unplanned pregnancy... We were young and scared, holding on to life the best way we could... We were spending a week together in my Cottage while our partners were out of the country on a mission.” Delacour looks out of the window with a saddened expression: she’s stunning even with her veela allure completely under control. Fleur looks aethereal and foreign, as if she is not here with me anymore, but somewhere in the past. “I fell in love with her then.”
Excerpted from “Falling in love with a ghost: Fleur Delacour talks about divorce, coming out, grief and art” by T. Rooney, Queer as Culture, March 2002.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you @maesterchill @danpuff-ao3 and @nv-md for the tag! <333
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
314
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,295,054
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Harry Potter is the big one. I've also written some Captive Prince, Locked Tomb, and one Call Me By Your Name fic
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Right Hand Red; Hung Like a Horntail; Slip Into My Lover's Hands; Weeds or Wildflowers (written with the very talented @unmistakablyoatmeal); and check this hand 'cause I'm marvelous
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try. I'm seriously behind. The truth is, I'll never get around to replying to them all. I will someday die with a thousand unanswered comments. But I do try. And I read each and every one and they touch my heart. I'm so very grateful for all the wonderful comments I've received and continue to receive!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oof. I hardly ever end things badly. But there was one wee ficlet; lemme go hunt it down. (*plays elevator music*) Ah, here it is: Not-Forever Is Still Forever. It's not MCD or anything. Draco just leaves for Argentina for two years. *shrug emoji* But I like to think I've gotten pretty good at baking some realistic angst into the middle of things, if not writing angty endings. I prefer it that way.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All of them except for Burning the Ground, which is an open ending. I'll be honest, I don't like the word fluff. I'm never trying to write fluff, which, to me, denotes a level of uncomplicated sweetness. Maybe others define it differently. But I don't think happy endings are necessarily fluffy. I want my happy endings to put tears in your eyes, to move you. I want to evoke different things with different sorts of happiness for different phases of life. RHR's ending is about a feeling of freedom mostly, of getting to face the next part of their lives without dread. Take You Home has a similar vibe but with them a bit older; they've experienced the painful and mundane disappointments you have to weather in this life that have nothing to do with fighting a dark wizard and everything to do with existential questions about who we are, how we go on, what do you do when it doesn't work out, when you've changed and you don't know who you are anymore. I loved ending it with all their friends, at a march for trans rights. Heart Like Neon has an ending that makes *me* the most happy. I modeled it after an episode of Grey's Anatomy where you find out at the end of the ep that two important characters got married. The whole ep, none of their friends know, then at the end they play 'Bones' by Josh Record, and you go back in time by a few weeks and you see it. When I wrote the end of HLN, I had that song playing in my head from the end of the party at the Weasley's, to jumping three months earlier, to Harry and Draco in Paris. That's a pretty goddamned happy ending. It makes me cry. <3 (Also the art that @bluebutter-art made for it makes me bawl happy tears!!!)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I was going to say hardly ever but then I *just* got some last week! LOL. Still, I'm very lucky that it's not even once in a blue moon. That stuff is so arbitrary too. I'm going to quote my good friend @elrhiarhodan: People... they're fuckin nuts. :D
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
LOL yes. A lot of different kinds? I want to try a little of everything as a writer.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
No. I mean, I probably have a couple times over the course of my literal decades in some fandom or other, but they're not worth noting.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, several, and into multiple languages. I think that's so cool!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Definitely! In HP I've written with sdk, @the-starryknight and @nv-md, plus I once did a wild round robin with a big group of people. I'm not good at round robins, I've realized. Too much of a control freak.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Drarry, totally. But right up there is Harry/Teddy and Harry/Teddy/Draco. Then Ginny/Pansy, Charlie/Teddy, James Sirius/Albus Severus (with Teddy too sometimes). In CaPri, I love Damen/Laurent, but @linecrosser had totally made me ship when Damen lends Laurent out to Nikandros for a threesome and also Auguste/Laurent. I also hardcore ship my own original characters from my novel. <3
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I don't do WiPs really.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Oof, this is tough. Pacing? Interpersonal relationships? Smut, for sure. LOL. I think I do well writing things that are transgressive or maybe even filthy with a lot of tenderness and compassion and deep, deep love mixed in. And I think I'm getting really good at making people cry when I want them to. Readers, that is. :D
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Convoluted plots. Can't do them. I wish I could. I can't write a mystery to save my life. I'm also pretty bad at heavy angst. I also wish I could write something nonlinear, but my brain just doesn't work that way.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
It's interesting that this is a question because it's meaningful to me not because of fic but because of my novel. I have a Spanish-speaking character, fluent in English, but sometimes he says things in Spanish. I'm very VERY lucky that @capiturecs read my novel both as a sensitivity reader for Latinx/Latine/Latino aspects but also to correct my Spanish and make it realistic and conversational! I'll be forever grateful! I also now really REALLY want to learn Spanish! <3
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Sorry, I don't share this publicly.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Oh this is mean. This is cruel. I can't possibly answer this! RHR has got to be in there. Heart Like Neon. Blood and Fire. Phoenix in the Fire. Take You Home. Wonderful Electric (cover me in you). A Pain of Our Choosing. My Name in Your Mouth. Bloom. collarbones like a bow, skin an arrow to the heart. I'll stop there!
Okay, this was fun! I'll tag @corvuscrowned @ruinsplume @floydig @sweet-s0rr0w @lettersbyelise @magpiefngrl @skeptiquewrites and Elr! <3

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you so much to @citrusses, @danpuff-ao3, @tackytigerfic, @maesterchill and @squintclover for tagging me in this! I loved reading your answers, which is what made me finally decide to do this one. I'm really awful at these, and I'm stuck in that endless blank early period of motherhood where my focus is so inwards, so survivalist, that I've lost all sense of popular songs/films/sport, which is a big part of why I don't generally do other 'about you' type posts. So I'm also tagging @elskanellis, @epitomereally, @mallstars, @oknowkiss and @thecouchsofa who recently tagged me in other posts to say thank you <3 and I appreciate you, and here, do this one if you like <3
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
25, good grief
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
332,461!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Just Harry Potter. Can’t see that changing any time soon, but never say never. Meanwhile F1 will remain the One That Got Away!
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Nor All That Glisters (111k, E, Drarry)
Kept in Cages (77k, E, Drarry)
Dreaming Skies (21k, E, Dron collab with @tackytigerfic)
When The Party's Over (5.4k, E, Drarry)
Among the Elements (8.3k, E, Drarry)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Embarrassingly enough, not usually. Basically, I got very overwhelmed last summer after writing Kept in Cages, because I pushed myself ridiculously hard to get it finished in time for Wireless (last fic in Wireless, but I made it!!) Combined with a lot of stress in my personal life, I then experienced massive burnout and had six months of complete writer’s block. Meanwhile, I got some really wonderful, brilliant, thoughtful comments on that fic, and I felt just awful and like a total fraud who couldn’t put a sentence together, and couldn’t bring myself to even respond. And now I don’t feel like I can reply to anything more recent until I’ve got through the old comments, etc etc. I guess I should just get over myself and crack on though, because I love getting comments and do really truly read and appreciate every single one.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I tend to give them at the very least a hopeful ending, so I had to look through my account to work this out, and I think this has to go to my weird tiny little dark fic Not Waving (M, 3k, Drarry).
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
As above, I do like a happy ending, but rarely is it unqualified happiness. Kept in Cages, maybe, because I like that they’ve built a life away from everything, and that it’s something that they’ve each freely chosen. Or perhaps Silhouettes (E, 17k, Dronarry), which now I think about it does have a rare conveniently-packaged ending!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not yet! The odd lightly offensive bookmark rating, but nothing that especially bothers me. I got caught up in the top/bottom trolling early in my time in fandom, but that stuff was so ridiculous I just deleted the lot of it and didn’t think of it again.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I write what I want to read, really, which (naturally) involves smut. I can’t do PWPs though; there’s a Tumblr post that says, like, ‘I’m going to write a quick PWP, the starting premise is that character A has lost their faith in god’, and this is kind of me. Sex in fic for me is a big part of relationship development, and so I usually slot in whatever works best for the characters from that point of view. I’m actually writing something right now that’s fast sexual burn/slow relationship burn, and it’s a very new dynamic for me, to try and take the feelings away (a bit, obviously they’re going to catch them sooner or later).
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I don’t really enjoy reading them, so it doesn’t really enter my mind to try and write one. I suppose sports AUs are the exception to the rule – does that count? I haven’t written one, but I’ve read some I’ve adored (@sleepstxtic, @citrusses) and I could see myself having a go.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
A couple, I think. Someone translated NATG to Brazilian Portuguese, all 111k of the thing (although looking now I think it might have been taken down!), and Nice I think got translated to Vietnamese.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, Dreaming Skies with @tackytigerfic. Dream come true, etc etc. I have to say, I’d absolutely be up for another collab with someone in the future (time/life/etc allowing, which is a big if for me).
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Drarry. Twenty-one years and counting!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Oh, I’d never say never! Good to always have something on the backburner, I say.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue, I think. And I used to think pacing, but currently having a slight crisis about this in my latest fic, so get back to me! But yeah, dialogue; as I was saying to @fluxweeed the other day, sometimes I feel like I write my fics by just filling in the gaps between dialogue.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Everything that’s not dialogue! No, I’d say probably endings. I don’t think I’ve mastered the art of ending strong just yet. I’m too keen to satisfy readers, possibly, or maybe it’s the dialogue thing again, I want to end on a quip or something, and it never sits quite right. I should really start looking at what I think makes a good ending, I guess.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Fine? I mean, I wouldn’t personally do it using google translate or anything, because I’d have horrors that I’d accidentally end up insulting someone, but if I know the language a bit and/or have someone I can trust to help, that’s fine.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
First and only, HP. I read HP back in the early 00s – a broad range of stuff, following the well-known authors (Cassie Clare, Maya, Rhysenn, Aja etc), but was always just a lurker, never part of fandom (was too nervous, and too busy with F1, which was a very niche fandom back then, consisting of about 30 of us and an unhealthy number of screenshots of Jarno Trulli’s backside after every race – I ran a fic archive and modded fests etc, but never wrote). Then when I got back into fandom, it was immediately HP, and immediately Drarry <3
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Don’t make me choose between my children!
Tagging: gosh, I think I've tagged enough people just in the course of my ramblings! Oh, maybe also @shealwaysreads, and @skeptiquewrites if you haven't done it, and the Aussie crew @moonflower-rose and @shiftylinguini, I'd love to know your answers if you have the inclination. Anyone who gets a tag for the post please feel free to do it and please do tag me with your responses <3

Writing patterns
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there's a pattern! Tagged by @yletylyf - thank you! Most of these are itty bitty fics and out-takes, but here we go.
1. The headmaster of Hogwarts, as yet unaware he had entered upon his last day on earth, raised his thin hand to stroke the unsmiling face of the woman who had afforded him so much unlooked-for happiness. [Year of the Thestral, HP, Minerva McGonagall/Severus Snape. An excerpt from a quasi-romance novel written about them after their deaths, a fact the reader won't understand until the end of the fic.]
2. Sometimes all Severus had to do was turn thirty-plus years of repressed hunger upon him, and Harry would start shaking. [Snake Charmer, HP, Snape/Harry. Out-take. A line signaling the co-dependent and sexual nature of the relationship.]
3. When Harry made his way out to the reception desk, there was barely a trace of almond left on his skin. [Coda to "Soft Touch," HP, Snape/Harry. Afterthought to a pre-existing fic. If I'd thought about it, I might have punched up the opening line by combining it with the last sentence in the paragraph, making it both clearer and funnier to readers who hadn't read the main fic: "When Harry made his way out to the reception desk, he didn't look like a man who'd just let Severus Snape bite his arse." Oh well. Missed opportunity!]
4. At around four in the afternoon, with three chapters to go in the espionage novel she was reading – since popular thrillers provided not only diversion but an eye-opening refresher course on Muggle slang and cultural attitudes – Minerva glanced up from the page to find Wil leaning in the doorway, watching her. [Candles Lit Against the Dark, HP, Minerva McGonagall/Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank but heavily featuring Snape. Scene- and relationship-setting, basically.]
5. It was possible none of this would have happened if not for Hermione. [The Afterlight, HP, Snape/Harry. A simple declarative sentence appears! Mildly mysterious, but since we as fans know this is a ship fic, the mostly likely suspect for the category of "this" is a relationship Harry's friends consider a mistake.]
6. Severus persisted in accompanying Harry to public events, in part because the wizarding world still needed it shoved down their throats that he and Harry were a couple. [Social Lubricant, HP, Snape/Harry. The premise in a nutshell. The rest of the ficlet just embellishes it.]
7. "You need to choose wisely when to be a dick, Potter." [Bad Manners, HP, Snape/Harry. Teensy fic. Sets the mood. Makes it clear who's speaking.]
8. Into the lives of all upstanding citizens, an occasion must fall where we fumble the biscuit and end up owing an undeniable debt to mankind. [Jeeves and the Secret Society, crossover between HP and Jeeves & Wooster, Jeeves/Wooster, Snape/Dumbledore. Establishes a different narrative voice from my usual, hints but doesn't confirm a first-person POV - although fans of Bertie Wooster will probably guess.]
9. Radiant in the wasteland of a European battlefield, the vessel of Clara's memory shrugs. [Truce, Doctor Who, Clara/Twelve-ish. Drabble. Scene-setting, suggests this isn't literally Clara but a (precious) memory.]
10. For one of her first acts as headmistress, Minerva shatters the Mirror of Erised. [Spirituous, HP, Minerva, Albus, Severus. Drabble. Establishes a postwar timeline and implies Minerva's state of mind.]
Patterns? Hm. Well, anyone who's read anything of mine, even the drabbles, can already guess I'm fiercely wedded to compound sentences and fond of opening with dependent clauses. I also default to narrative prose over dialogue. And most of these first lines have some degree of hook to them, whether I planned it or not. Otherwise, um ... I think you need more to go on if you want to analyze the more interesting kinds of authorial habits and themes.
Does anyone else want to play? Tagging @danpuff-ao3, @ripeteeth, @saintsenara, @squibstress - and anyone else, because I have to be good now and go back to work!

Thanks for the tag @dracopetal!
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there's a pattern
My abandoned fic collection has 3 fics in it, so I'll use those to get to 10 :>
The Diadem: “I don’t understand,” Draco said for what must have been the fifth time that hour alone.
Tabula Rasa: At first, Tom wasn’t sure what woke him.
Caprice: “My grandson, do you see him?”
Marked: The Malfoy boy knelt before him, head bowed, shaking with fear.
The Secret Garden: It was late October and Amy Benson had come down with diphtheria and infected half the orphanage.
Blood: Aunt Bella birthed the child, but that was the last time she did anything one might consider motherly.
Alley Cat: “Draco. Draco,” Pansy hissed, grabbing his ear when he didn’t immediately turn around.
A Generous Minute: It was 1945 and a most unfortunate year for Abraxas Malfoy.
Bluebeard: The day before the school term began, Draco dragged Tom to the Quidditch pitch.
Edible Horcruxes: “My grandson,” Abraxas announced, depositing the child in Voldemort’s arms.
The Travelling Cabinet: It was six pm on a Tuesday when the boy came tumbling out of the filing cabinet.
I added the eleventh to make the trend clearer because what I can see most is me... telling the time in the first sentence ("it was late October", "it was 1945", "the day before the school term began", "It was six pm on a Tuesday"). I did not realise I had so many fics that started with 'it was' 💀💀
Also, Abraxas features a bizarre amount for how much I feel like I've written him (3, 8, 10).
Tagging: @cindle-writes @duplicitywrites @indigo-scarf @danpuff-ao3 @toast-ranger-to-a-stranger @metalomagnetic
