Old Friends, Old Cars and New Love
Summary: Dean Winchester x Fe!OC (Peggy) [feel free to see yourself as Peggy] -> When Dean takes Sam to see an old friend of his, Sam is, it's safe to say, more than confused to see his brother with an attitude that could only equal lovesick teen or, better yet, married.
Warning: FLUFF! Dogs, Back to the Future mentions (small), light swearing and fade to smut (mostly kissing), mutual pining, long fic etc.

When Sam woke up that morning, the last thing he expected was to find his brother awake before him - after having a full 8 hours sleep. Both of them. Both of them had slept 8 full hours and yet, Dean was still up before him.
“Dude, what the-”
“Get dressed.”
Sam paused by the kitchen door. “Okay?...Why?”
“We’re going for a ride.”
“Dean,” Sam began, “we’ve just come back from a hunt yesterday. Dude, we need a break-”
“You can stay here if you want.” Dean said, looking to his brother. “It’s not a hunt. I’m just visiting an old friend.”
“Friend? What friend? We don’t have friends, Dean. Our friends are all dead- well, most of them are.”
Dean ignored Sam’s comments. “Look, I’m going up to see her. You can either stay here or you can come with.”
“Her?”
Dean had never mentioned a ‘her’ before outside of Charlie, Jody and Donna.
Dean just nodded to his brother. “She’s just moved. Lives a couple hours away. Thought I’d go up and say hi. There’s a couple of things I want to grab while I’m up there, too.”
“Things? What things?” Since when had his brother become a sudden mystery. Her? Things? “Are you feeling okay, Dean? You’re not…concussed? Are you? Fever?”
Sam went to place his hand by his brother’s head, but Dean just batted it away. “Are you coming or not?”
Sam agreed to go. He wanted to know who this ‘her’ was.
All the way there, Sam asked questions.
“Who is she? When did you meet her? What’s her name? Where the hell are we going? You’re not going just to hook up, are you? Because if you are-”
“Sam.” Dean interjected. “She’s just an old friend. I met her when I was younger. She’s got a couple of my things in her attic that I need since we’ve moved into the Bunker. Now, will you please shut up.”
“Okay.”
It was a little while longer until finally they arrived.
Dean pulled Baby into park outside of a car mechanic shop. Sutton Workshop.
Slowly, Sam got out of the car whilst his brother practically skipped. Where the hell were they?
Mostly, the place was silent. Was she, whoever she was, aware that they were coming?
But Sam jumped the moment he heard a voice swear. Then he spotted a pair of legs from under the cherry red mustang..
“Shit!”
Dean chuckled. “Don’t worry Cherry. She’s all bark and no bite.”
Sam could only see the legs of the person, but they became paralised. But not out of fear - out of recognition.
From under the car, Peggy smiled. She thought she had been kidding herself when she heard the familiar roar of the familiar, black, 67’ but the moment she heard that deep chuckle, she knew.
“You talking to me or the car?” Peggy asked before she rolled herself from under the car to look at the older Winchester who was stood leaning against the car. “And get off. It’s a new paint job.”
Dean stepped back with his hands up. “Yes, ma’am.”
Peggy stood up and was quick to embrace Dean. “God, it’s good to see you.” He still smelt the same. It was almost intoxicating. Whiskey and leather the seats of Baby and…gunpowder? Yep. Still Dean Winchester.
As Peggy let go and stepped back, she found another guy stood beside them. “Peg, this is Sam.”
Peggy shook the hand of Sam’s shocked person. “Hi, nice to finally meet you.”
“I’d say you too but…”
“He didn’t tell you who I was, did he?” Peggy hit Dean’s arm, enough to make him hold it after. “Thanks for that.”
“What? He never asked.”
Sam pulled a face at Dean but he just shrugged in return. “So, tell me, what are you in town for?”
“I was hoping you still had some of my boxes.”
Boxes? What boxes? Dean had boxes?
Peggy smiled. “Yeah, I’ve still got em’. They’re up in my attic. I’ve still got a couple cars to work on but you’re welcome to go and get em’.” Peggy walked into her office before finding her house keys and chucking them over to Dean.
“You sure?”
Peggy nodded. “Yeah. I’ll meet you back at home later. I’ve got a customer coming picking up his car in about 20 minutes.”
“Okay, I’ll see you there.”
“See ya!” Peggy then slipped back under her car and continued her work.
“Sam!”
Sam jumped back into action and followed his brother back to Baby before Dean began driving a few streets away. “This is where she lives?”
“It didn’t look like this beforehand.” Dean told Sam, “She fixed it up.”
“She did all of this?”
Dean shrugged, placing the key into the door. “Well, I helped…a little.”
“When?” Sam asked, a little offended he didn’t know.
“About two years ago. There was a hunt close by and she needed some help. So I helped.” Dean briefly explained. “Up here.”
Sam found it oddly unsettling that his brother knew this house a lot better than he knew the Bunker. And that's saying something. It was like there was an air of domesticity around Dean - something Sam never, ever saw in him. No matter how hard Dean tried to have it, he never could but here? Here it was like he was swimming in it.
It was a good look on him.
Dean pulled at the short cord before the stairs collapsed down and he began to climb them.
The attic had been decorated, too. A little, at least. There were wooden panels everywhere, a couple of empty case boards and case file boxes on the floor. In the other corner was a large double bed with multiple plastic boxes on top with the labels of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas on them.
All Dean could say was; “She’s a holiday person.”
Underneath the rest of the unpacked boxes and trunks was a rug. Clearly, this was made to be an extra bedroom but had become more of a storage space for a while.
Dean shrugged off his jacket and placed it over the wooden banister that was placed at the side of the door and began looking around.
In the middle of the sloping roof was a window that allowed you to either watch the birds fly by or watch the stars at night.
There had been so many nights spent here, for Dean. He could still remember the days when the case boards were filled with pinned photos and colored string leading from one to another.
As Dean began opening one box, Sam opened another. And that was when he saw it.
Dean’s things.
His stuff.
Everything from his childhood - photo albums, school reports, school projects…everything was saved. In another box were awards he’d gotten from school. His highschool diploma.
“She framed it.” Dean said in shock as he found it at the bottom of his box.
“What?” Sam asked, but Dean just ignored him and turned to the next box.
“Why didn’t you tell me about all of this?” Sam asked.
Again, nothing.
“Dean!”
Dean snapped out of his trance and looked to his brother. “What?”
“Why didn’t you tell me about Peggy?”
Dean shrugged his shoulders. “I guess it just never came up.”
“You helping fix a house never came up? Dean. We’ve been here half an hour and you’ve yet to tell me anything.”
“Look, Peg and I…we’re friends. Sometimes when I’d go hunting and there wasn’t a case, I’d come and see her. I’d help her out. It’s nothing.”
Sam thought for a moment. “So…have you two ever…”
Surprisingly, Dean seemed a little confused by what Sam was insinuating, but then it clicked. “What? Oh. No. No. We’re just friends. Jesus.”
Sam chuckled a little. “Okay, just…had to ask. You dressed as the easter bunny?”
“What?” Dean looked up and Sam showed him the photo.
“No. Mom dressed me as the easter bunny.”
“It’s cute.”
“No, it’s not.”
Then a voice cut the conversation. “It’s adorable.”
Dean smiled seeing as Peggy scaled the stairs and came up into the attic space. She looked over Sam’s shoulder from where he sat and took the photo in her hands. “Come on. I should frame it.”
“Don’t.” Dean warned.
She turned the photo so he could see. “But you’re adorable.”
He swiftly stood up and took the photo from her. “Absolutely not.”
“Fine.” Peggy groaned. “Jackass.”
“Moron.”
Sam couldn’t help but smile as he watched their interaction. He’d never seen Dean like this…it was good.
“Why are you looking through this stuff anyway?” Peggy asked, sitting on the floor beside Dean as he sat on the trunk.
“We’ve moved into a Bunker.”
Peggy laughed at first but then realized. “Oh, you’re being serious.”
Dean nodded, proudfully. “Yep. We’re legacies.”
“Legacies? How fancy.”
Dean didn’t explain further, so Sam did. “Our grandfather- Henry-”
Peggy quickly looked to Dean. “Your dad’s dad? You met your grandfather?”
She looked back to Sam and he nodded. “Yep.”
“Holy crap.”
“Anyway, he’s a Man of Letters. Apparently it’s a secret Hunter’s organization thing. Anyway, we’ve moved in.”
“And I want to actually make it a home.”
Peggy nodded, looking at Dean as he spoke. “That’s good. But you’ve always got a home here, if you need one.”
Dean looked at her and smiled. “I know.”
Sam watched the interaction again. Was Dean lying to him about the dating thing?
Peggy, however, then broke it and stood up. “I’ve put some food on. I’ll shout you down when it’s ready. You need any help?”
Dean shook his head. “No, we’ve got it. Thanks, Moron.”
“Anytime, Jackass.” Peggy smiled before making her way down the stairs but not before popping her head back up.
“You’re not allergic to anything, are you Sam?”
Sam shook his head. “No.”
“Okay, good. See you soon.”
Around an hour later, Peggy shouted for them both to come downstairs and wash up before all three of them sat down to eat.
“Who is this guy?” Dean asked, suddenly being met by a shaggy lab.
“That is Einstein."
“Back to the Future?” Dean asked.
“You know it.” Peggy smiled.
Sam was in shock. His brother couldn’t be more…normal if he tried. And since when did Dean like dogs?
“Einstein, outside. Come on. Fetch.”
Peggy threw his ball out into the backyard before closing the door and letting him run around the garden in circles until he’d tire himself out.
“When did you get him?” Dean asked, making his way into the dining room.
“Last year.” Peggy explained. “He was a shelter dog and I was getting lonely around here, so I adopted him.”
“What happened to creeper-dude? Rick.”
Peggy nodded. “Rich. And, we broke up.”
Dean nodded. “Good. Never liked him anyway.”
“You don’t like any guys I date.”
“Because they’re all wrong for you.”
“Then who’s right for me?”
Dean gave a slight smirk. “I don’t know. Me?”
Peggy looked at him and Sam could have swore he saw her blush as she looked down. “Oh, I walked into that one.”
“Yeah, you did.” Dean smiled. “You need help?”
“No, I got it.” Peggy carried the large bowl of pasta into the dining room whilst Dean grabbed the plates and laid them out.
The next hour and half was filled with many different conversations all from Dean’s stint in Purgatory to Sam’s days at Stanford. But it was all good. They laughed and cried at the laughter. And for Sam, it was the happiest he’d seen his brother…ever.
“I’ve finished the spare rooms so you two could stay if you want?”
“Are…are you sure?” Sam asked.
Peggy nodded and collected the plates but Dean swiftly took them from her and took them to the kitchen himself. “You cooked, we’ll clean.”
“Thanks. And, yes. I’m sure. I’d be nice to actually have someone to talk to. And I could use your help,” Peggy walked into the kitchen carrying the glasses. “A customer came in just before I shut up for the evening. American Station Wagon and I, for the life of me, cannot see anything wrong.”
“Well, it can’t be good if you need a second pair of eyes.”
“I know.”
Peggy was the best mechanic Dean knew. Anything that came into the shop from motorbikes to Baby herself. Peggy could fix anything and she was the only one Dean trusted enough to handle Baby.
The next day soon came and Sam decided to take a walk with Einstein to the dog park since Dean and Peggy headed to the shop early.
Meanwhile, as he passed the shop, he could see Dean stood in his gray t-shirt that was covered in grease stains from the oil whilst Peggy stood in her overalls and her hair pulled up into a messy bun. With the heat, Dean had pulled his own overalls to tie around his waist hence the stains on his t-shirt.
And when Bobby called Sam and Sam asked the old man about Dean and Peggy -
“Oh, yeah. I’ve seen them. God love that boy, but he’s an idiot.”
“Tell me about it.” Sam replied, rolling his eyes. “We’ve been here just over 24 hours and, Bobby, I have to tell you. I’ve never seen him like this before. He’s actually…happy. He slept all night. He was up just after me and Peggy.”
“You don’t have to tell me, boy. I was there when they met. Pair of lovesick teenagers if I ever saw em’.” Bobby explained. “But the idjit waited too long to make a move and now thinks he’s stuck in the friendzone.”
“Maybe he is.” Even as Sam said it, he didn’t believe it. “Maybe they are just friends.”
“Boy, have you ever seen Dean look at Jody that way? Or Donna, or Charlie? No.” Bobby pointed out. “That isn’t the look of friendship, Sam. That is the look of a man in love.”
Sam looked across the street and saw Dean looked at Peggy. God, Dean was so in love.
“You’re right, Bobby.”
“That boy’s too frightened of his own skin to do anything about it.” For as much as Dean was one of, if not the most feared hunter, he was terrified. He was terrified of something happening to him and leaving her alone or heartbroken, or worse, hating him for all eternity. And he was terrified that something would happen to her. He’d lost a lot of good people in his life, but Peggy? Well, she was the best. He couldn’t lose her or he might just lose himself, too.
Sam continued on his walk back from the park with Einstein and, eventually, around 8pm Dean and Peggy arrived back home.
Sam had called Dean and left him a couple of messages but, it was the note left on the kitchen counter which let him know where his baby brother was.
Dean listened to the voicemail Sam left.
“Everything okay?” Peggy asked.
Dean nodded. “Yeah…Sam’s gone on a date.”
“He has?”
Dean was a little shocked, but he was happy.
“Yeah. Eileen. She’s…a hunter we met a couple weeks back. She’s not too far from town and…he’s gone on a date.”
Peggy smiled. “Good for him. Oh, no. What’s that look?”
“I know he’s a grown man- we both know that.” Dean mentioned, mocking his brother’s height a little. “But…I don’t know.”
“It feels like he’s flown the nest?” Peggy smiled. “Don’t worry. When he comes back here with all his ‘first date’ questions, you can answer all of them in detail. Maybe even teach him about the birds and the bees-”
And the moment was gone. “Okay. Nope. Not doing that.”
Peggy gave a soft laugh. “Okay, go and get a shower because as much as I enjoy the smell of motor oil, I’d rather not smell it 24/7.”
Dean nodded. “Okay.”
When Dean finished in the bathroom - remembering to place his towel inside the washing basket outside the door - that was when he spotted them.
Photos.
Their frames lined the walls and they were all of her family. Her folks, cousins, school friends and…him.
Dean, carefully, picked it off the wall.
There were a few of both of them scattered across the walls in the home. But Dean could remember this one.
It was the first time they fixed a car together. Her mom or dad must have taken it since Bobby was asleep in the background with his cap over his face. He could see her smile - it still made his heart warm. But he could see his, also. God, he was so in love with her. Still was.
That was when he heard the soft humming of music from the attic.
Turning back, he switched the bathroom light out and headed up the stairs and found Peggy smiling softly at the record case in her hand.
Etta James.
She’d maybe played that album 30 times or more when they first met.
The song currently playing was Sunday Kind of Love. It was…her.
Peggy had to move the boxes from the bed to grab the record player from down the opposite side of the bed.
Peggy looked up when she sensed him, and smiled. “Oh, hey.”
“Hey,” Dean then remembered the photo in his hand. “I found this.”
Placing the record beside her on the trunk, she stood and walked over to Dean. She took the photo from his hands and examined it. She’d put the photo’s up so long ago, she almost forgot she actually had them.
Peggy smiled, as did Dean. “I remember this! This was the first car we worked on together.”
She went quiet for a few moments until- “God, I was so in love with you here.”
But then she realized what she had said and the fact that she had said it out loud. The smile from Dean’s face dropped when he realized, too. “What?”
Peggy panicked, but tried her best to remain calm. “Nothing. I - I don’t even know why I said that.”
She went to turn away and to pick the album cover up again. “Peg, what do you mean-”
“Nothing. It doesn’t matter.” But Dean didn’t take her reply.
“You were in love with me?”
Crap.
“Dean, you don’t have to worry.” Peggy tried to tell him. “I was young. We both were.”
“Peg, just answer the question.”
“Dean-”
Dean stepped a little closer to her. “Did you love me?”
There was no getting out of this one.
“Maybe.” She first answered. “No. Yes. Dean, look, I was young and you were…you. You don’t have to-”
“Do you still?”
Now this question shocked her more than the last. Of course she did, but could she really tell him that? Tell him that for the past, almost 17 years of her life, she had loved him. That every now and then she’d date someone but it always ended because of many reasons, but the main was was that the guy wasn’t him? Because she knew, deep down, that her heart or at least some part of her would always belong to him. Always.
“Dean…I-” Peggy couldn’t find the words.
Dean found himself stepping forward a few more steps and slowly leaning down. “Dean-” He pulled back a little. “You don’t have to do this.”
But Dean only gave a silent answer by looking at her and leaning in slowly until eventually the breath he could feel on his lips wasn’t just his own. It was hers, too. He’d waited 17 years to do this - all because he’d been too scared, too chicken. Bobby was right. He is an Idjit.
The first kiss was soft. Barely there. Really, it couldn’t be considered a kiss. It was more of a breath.
But then his lips caught hers and as he truly kissed her, she kissed back. His hands cupped her cheeks and softly held her closer to him.
Peggy herself found his reaction a shock, but found her own an even bigger one. She was kissing him back. Slowly, her hands came up to his chest and the moment she felt him pulling away, her hands gripped at his shirt and pulled him closer.
Even though the first kiss didn’t really break fully, this was still their second kiss. And she could feel Dean’s smile in it, causing a small one of her own as she felt his hands go from her face to her back, holding her in a hug almost until finally his hands reached her legs and he lifted her up.
Her own hands were by his face, feeling his clean shaven skin beneath her palms.
This was the best kiss of their lives.
It only took a few steps, but Dean eventually reached the bed in the corner of the room and lay Peggy carefully onto her back, being careful not to break the kiss too much.
They’d both waited so long for this.
Maybe they should have told each other sooner.
“Peggy-” Dean managed to pull back for a moment but his own desire to keep on kissing took back over for a short second. “Peg- Peggy.”
“Dean, if you don’t-”
“I love you.”
Dean was never one for words, not really. He usually showed his love more than he said it. But with her it was different. He could talk. He could tell her how he felt and what he was thinking. He could tell her he loved her. He had to tell her.
“I know I don’t say it often, but I do. I was in love with you, too. In that photo. I have been since we were kids. Maybe that’s why it didn’t work out with other people? Maybe that’s why I don’t want anyone to stick. But you-”
“Dean,” Peggy interjected. “I love you too.”
Dean felt his own brain stall. He had an idea before he kissed her but hearing it? That was something different. It felt different.
“Are you-”
Peggy gave a light laugh that had been giving him butterflies in his stomach since the first day he heard her laugh. “Jackass? I just told you I love you, too. Now, shut up and kiss me.”
Dean smiled back. “Yes, ma’am.”
And he did as he was told.
Dean lowered himself back down and they began kissing all over again. If they were both dead now, this was their heaven. They didn’t need much else besides one another, and maybe a comfortable bed and a couple cars to fix when they weren’t too busy.

The scene at the diner was something Chloe couldn’t drive away from fast enough. The bodies littered among the debris as if there was an explosion, all slumped on the floor, thrown from their booths or stools. There had been no bomb, no gas leak, no grease fire. It was arson and it was covering something much darker than her seasoned hunter’s eyes could see. Unable to find all the pieces to put the puzzle together, instead it crumbled apart with each connection. There had been sulfur and before the security tapes were fried, a man grabbed a waitress’s face and her eyes melted with his touch.
The Fire Marshal was certain it had been tampered with, that it was a trick of reflection and camera flares. CC allowed the bewildered investigators to have their elaborate hoax of technological malfunction, because if they knew that Angels had massacred a restaurant full of people, they would be no better off. And those people wouldn’t be any less dead. There were only two hunters that she knew ran with an Angel, though she hadn’t heard much about him since Dean had gotten out of Purgatory. Calling a friend with news like this usually required liquid courage, plus the bullshit detector of face-to-face conversation would do to ease her growing concerns. That was why she was driving East; she was going to see what the Winchesters knew about what could bring both Angels and Demons to another godforsaken Biggersons’.
At least that was the motivation she had accepted from your silent nudging.
No one was home, the obviousness hitting you like a ton of bricks, made from disappointment and uncertainty. You were so close to seeing Dean again and then it was like you were trapped in a dream. What were you going to do with her now? Since she first expelled you, you strained to stay quiet, while watching and waiting. Only every so often you would send her a message or prompt her to act. The pull to drive East, the quick jump to the Winchesters when Angels were involved in the destruction; all just teensy suggestions on your part. You didn’t want to scare her, and you certainly did not want to draw attention to her from her fellow hunters. Possession was like torture: you just had to keep at it until you found all the chinks in the armor. Along that vein, you let Chloe work herself out of the predicament as you quietly continued to establish yourself in the back of her mind.
Chloe tapped at the sealed door with the steel toe of her work boot in mild annoyance. She knew hunters and those with a home base generally were gone only as long as they had to be. She could lurk in town, wait out the infamous black Chevy or she could try to get a straight answer from them over the phone. They were all liars at the end of the day, and though she had been through enough with Sam and Dean to trust them both with her back on a case, she doubted they would sell out their Angel buddy, if he was even involved.
In a stubborn fit, she stomped back to the cab of her pick up and made herself as comfortable as possible. Her dreams were broken memories and loops of unsuccessful hunts. She secretly kept score of her kills, assists and rescues. Some people had titles and some people saved diligently for the future. Chloe Collins viewed success on the backs of dead monsters, souls put to rest and exorcised demons. She may not be as famous as those boys of John’s or as resourceful as Bobby Singer had been, but she was a damn professional. You got a sour taste in your mouth when you realized how she would handle it once she found you out. You stopped yourself from spiraling in empathy, the taciturn emotion had you dulled as day broke.
Just after sunrise a jolting bang on the old rusted hood woke Chloe with a start. Knife raised like a slasher movie villain, she waved Dean off as he perched against his forearms on the cold metal window frame.
“What brings you around these parts?” He lifted his scarred chin to speak through the crack in the window.
“Don’t you ever sleep? Give a girl some beauty rest before you start grilling her, Winchester.” Chloe yawned into her wrist, if looks could kill Dean would have needed another resurrection.
Dean. It was really him, just beyond the slab of metal and plate of glass. He watched her amused with a glint in his green eyes. They were so bright, something about natural light and the surrounding foliage hit you unexpectedly. For all the beauty of the Earth, an old melody chimed in your thoughts as you saw him, your final torture, for the first time in true flesh and blood.
“Come on, Cease, you’re camped outside my front door, you’ll give a guy a complex if you don’t fess up.”
“God forbid, but this isn’t about you and your precious ego, Dean.” She huffed, scooting down the bench seat and out of the driver’s side door. Dean chivalrously held it open as she stretched, he tried not to notice as her shirts rode up to show a sliver of her thick waist. “So, that kid you’re looking for? Who else is on his trail because a whole Biggersons got roasted and I’d bet my granddaddy’s blade that it was Angels.”
Dean squinted at her now, “You were in Sante Fe? Yesterday?”
“Not a bad drive this time of year.” She noticed how he hadn’t invited her in and how he seemed to be blocking her from the door, intentionally or not it was a tell. You hated to admit it, but she was right to question his actions.
Dean nodded, still wary. “Well, sorry to disappoint, but that wasn’t us. Sammy and I just got back from the Two Rivers Casino, North end of Colorado.” He was giving her his best schmooze face, and CC was not enough of a morning person to play nice. “And thanks for keeping an eye out, but don’t worry about Kevin, we got him back.”
CC watched him carefully, “Oh, sure, I’m going to buy you were off on a boys’ gambling weekend with your lost prophet when we got Angels killing some two-dozen people?” She kept her tone level or tried to. Dean didn’t flinch, but he lowered his voice.
“Look, CC, I’m up to my eyeballs in otherworldly crap. Once Sammy figures out his next hurtle, thanks to Kevin he’s got somewhere to start, I’ll worry about Angels. Right now: I’m at my limit worrying about slamming the doors of Hell.”
Your heart raced, or Chloe’s raced for you. It felt like a silent jab at your presence. You didn’t know where to nudge her next. Luckily for you, her instincts were good, allowing you to sit back, and try to keep up with their dynamic.
“How’s Tweedle Dumb handling it?” She asked, the shift in conversation loosened his mask and you saw him, the real him. Vulnerable and battled-hardened, it had only been a few Earth years, had he really lived so much?
“You ever gonna stop with the nicknames? He was just a kid,” Dean’s face cracked into a reminiscent smile.
“Shit, what did that make us then?! Nah, it’s good to remind you boys where you stand,” Chloe teased back, resting her shoulder against the bed of her truck. They both felt the impasse, a few lingering glances shared between them before she decided to be the one to move it along. “Who’d’ve figured things would have gotten to such a scale back then?”
Dean huffed, an almost chuckle as he nodded. “You miss the old days?”
“Yeah, maybe, sometimes. I mean, there’s people we lost, and they should be remembered. But I guess, there wasn’t much else to miss?” She scrunched her face in a playful grimace. “If I get hung up on what ifs, then I’d just be working myself into a corner.” Chloe yawned again, pulling her jacket tighter around her shoulders. “Look, I’ma head out, y’all are busy and I need something to kill after yesterday.”
You saw it then, the nervous energy that had been holding Dean together, lighten ever so slightly along his shoulders and jaw. He didn’t want her hanging around, despite the momentary waxing nostalgic. You hoped you could search through her memories later and find just how those nicknames started. They had a past, nothing as absurd or tragic as yours and Dean’s, but something that needed to be understood all the same. If you were to stick around, if she was as receptive as you needed her to be.
CC tipped her head, her messy bun lolling off the top of her head, giving Dean a squint, which led to a wink. “Well, if you need some Wings bent or some back up, you know my number.”
“That I do. Thanks for checking in,” Dean held out one of his arms for a quick one-armed hug. She was on the taller side, chin resting on his shoulder with minimal tip toes, the closeness of their bodies was dizzying. You hadn’t experienced physical affection in decades. Dean smelled like old leather with a perplexing layer of musty books over a rich, if faded spiced cologne. And before you could truly appreciate it, the hug ended. Chloe opened the ornery door of her battered truck to climb into her next endeavor.
“Nice ride, how long have you had her?” Dean asked, admiring the old bruiser of a truck.
Chloe rolled her eyes, “A few months. Beats the alternative.”
“That it does. Take care.” Dean patted the door and CC replied with a genuine smile. She turned in a wide arch, headed back on to the service road that led away from the Bunker and into Lebanon. Every part of you wanted her to turn around, to hug him again, to throw herself at his feet. Anything but this parting akin to a limb being severed, something that you had experienced enough to pinpoint with absolute certainty the relative emotional to physical trauma. He could have said no, could have sent her packing, but he also could have said yes.
But there was no justification for any of those daydreams. The Winchesters and the prophet, Kevin Tran, were working to lockdown Hell. Crowley had lost his shiny bargaining chip turned fount of information. Any demon with an ounce of loyalty would return immediately to their post and seek an audience with the King. Unfortunately, the only being you held dearer than demonkind was slowly disappearing behind Chloe’s battered fender. What the fuck did that make you?
Dean was going to kill Cas. Then Naomi and Cas again for good measure. If Chloe had pieced together what happened in Sante Fe, then other hunters would too. He didn’t know if they could link the carnage back to Castiel specifically, but his involvement was damning enough. Why was he so hard to steer true? Dean didn’t know if he was more angry or disappointed. It smarted when Cas left him and took the Angel Tablet along. After that betrayal and now another thirty dead people; Dean didn’t know what to do with the Angel anymore.
He loved the guy, but could he trust him again?

He felt her eyes on him as she sauntered through the row of desks, pencil pushers along one edge and fast-talking used car salesman along the opposite. She was unimpressed with his promotion, second in command of the department. Abaddon was an ancient demon part of a regime that had seen its time come and go and was impossibly able to cling to power. While Crowley was a new upstart, barely a demon two centuries. He thought she was an entitled, outdated snob, she found him a trashy bamboozler. It was hatred at first sight.
He had brought in half a year’s worth of deals in a month, the human world falling into financial crisis had the more pragmatic people turning to the Crossroads instead of taking a walk out of their office building windows. With unrest across Europe after the Great War, her side of the coin remained just as dazzling. Hell was fully invested in the 20th Century, it was just a matter of what kind of power men craved, political or financial. Abaddon liked to watch humanity squirm, while Crowley stole their souls and their wives’ knickers and they thanked him for it.
She left the office floor without a word to the young salesman or his superior. He wouldn’t see her again until sometime later after he had cleaned up quite nicely.

Crowley sat at his desk with the seventh book in the Supernatural series, finding that he hadn’t moved since picking up the fifth novelization of the thorns-in-his-side’s conquests. He detested that he was so easily lost in the stories, the voices ringing out in immature familiarity as Dean and Sam searched for their wayward father. If Crowley wasn’t at risk of being put out of business by the dynamic duo, he might have been routing for them. Past them, at least. Now he was just casually making a kill order with the names of the Winchesters’ tiny victories neatly in line for the slaughter.
Because if anything could get those flannel clad codependents in line it was an existential crisis over a cleared or potentially negatively balanced moral scale. Damsels in distress, were just a means to an end in this carefully crafted scenario. Always two steps ahead with innumerable pokers in the fire, Crowley relished his new game. But it wasn’t a game it was hostage negotiation, a potential all-out war on the Winchesters if they followed through. That was a rather unlikely if.

Abaddon was expecting a search and seizure, she got a genial smirk and a wave through by the guard. It had been only fifty-five years and somehow everything had changed. The meatsuit drew more attention than her presence and she quickly grew more disgusted the further she stepped into the executive level of Hell. Crowley, unsurprisingly, was not in his office or on his thrown. He seemed to keep a varying schedule between Earth-side operations and below ground bureaucracy.
“Color me not surprised,” she retorted to his secretary. “Playing with Hunters like they were his toy soldiers.”
It was time to redecorate and redistribute their focus. It was time for Hell to be Evil again.

Chloe yawned into the back of her wrist, the streetlights glaring against the quiet street as she hurried back to her truck. The vamps’ nest had been cleared out in a hurry, one or more of them had gotten her scent and either skipped town or were stalking her this very second. She made a beeline for the rear of the vehicle, making a cursory perimeter before yanking the creaky door open. Nothing lurking behind her tires or in the bed, as she pulled herself into the driver’s seat a shooting star burst through the sky.
Chloe closed her eyes and made a wish, something both whimsical and pathetic: ‘Please don’t let this be my last wish, may I have the time to make it to better things.’ The truck bed shifted with a sudden, if graceful, distribution of weight. An unnerving chill ran up the length of Chloe’s spine as she started the engine. She adjusted the mirror, purposely giving the vampire a flash of her steely eyes. She gunned it, letting the tires scream against the county road, the creature’s strength protecting it from the kickback as she slammed on her brakes.
You snarled against the predator’s confidence, it bared its teeth in the moonlight, seen through the angled reflection via Chloe’s eyes. She slammed the shifting arm on the steering column, flying into reverse Chloe whipped the truck into a Y turn, throwing the vampire’s center of gravity off before flying back toward its nest. One more reckless shift and grinding of brakes and the vampire flew out of the bed. Chloe’s smugness was well earned, she reversed for the coup de gras, smearing the vampire against the crumbling pavement. As she took up her machete once more, severing what was left of the monster from its remaining skull, its dark blood streaked across her boots and hubcap. A shimmering in the gruesome liquid caught her eye and she looked up to a harrowing sky. Thousands of shooting stars were crashing to Earth as an ominous pit opened in your collective stomach.
She had gotten her wish, it wouldn’t be her last, and you knew that taking it as a positive was not necessarily a rational way to spin this outcome.

Dean barreled down the backroads with Sam in the backseat, the falling Angels an afterthought as he pushed Baby to her limit. Sam. Please, God no, not now, not like this. ‘Damnit why did you leave him alone with Crowley for so long Dean?!’ His father’s voice still echoed through his thoughts, when he messed up. When he put Sammy in danger, John always resurfaced. Dean inhaled a forced breath and blinked, letting his foot up lightly as they flew over an abandoned railroad crossing.
The tighter he held on to the steering wheel, the quieter Sam became.
Sam?
“Sammy?!”

Wedding Day Disaster
Summary; Dean Winchester x Fe!OC (but feel free to see yourself as OC) ~ After a wedding disaster, Alice finds herself in a popular road house making friends with the owner...
Warning; Fluff, illusions to smut, kissing, mentions of cheating, violence, swearing.
Tumblr media
The night was darker than ever. The rain had been pouring for a few hours earlier, as the darkness had been rolling in but now it was mostly bone dry anywhere you looked.
Ignoring the ringing of her phone and the material of her dress, Alice pulled in on the right down a small country road. She could see the taillights of a car just a few meters ahead of her and by the time she rolled into park, there were easily a dozen or more cars in the same positon as hers. Though, she highly doubted any of the passengers inside of them were going through what she was right this moment.
Clicking the button of her seatbelt, she opened up the door, locked the car behind her and walked inside. Some of the couples outside looked at her for a few more seconds than she would have liked but soon went back to smoking their cigarettes and chatting away.
It was the same inside. People stared. The small moments of silence were defening to her as she passed a couple of tables but people tried their best to carry on their conversations. She was just glad she hadn’t gone with the ballgown when shopping with her mother and aunt 8 months ago.
The bartender, however...well, his silence was the most defening. But also the most comforting. His green eyes had spotted her the moment she got out of her car. The white dress making her stand out like a sore thumb. He watched as she made her way over to the bar and before she could even sit down, he already had a glass on the counter top and a bottle of whiskey pouring a double.
She took the glass in the hand and downed the lot in two gulps before placing the glass down. And he did the same again. And so did she.
“Thank you.” Alice managed to say once the burning of the liquor stopped.
“Just yell if you need anything. The name’s Dean.”
“Alice.”
Dean nodded and went back to work, serving multiple customers at a time whilst she sat in the corner of the bar, looking around her. People were having fun, laughing, smiling, drinking, arguing, playing games. There were a couple of navy officers in the corner playing pool -- they must have been travelling through the town. Maybe they had come back home?
Alice wasn’t really keeping track of time. She just looked down at her phone and the numbers in brackets beside each caller ID.
8 missed calls from Mom. 17 missed calls from Sadie. 6 missed calls from Husband.
I should probably change that.
With a few clicks, although hesitant, Alice changed the Caller ID back to what it had been when she first met him. Ronny.
The bastard. The lying, cheating-
“Hey,”
Alice jumped a little and looked up from the trunk of her car. She had left the bar a few minutes ago in search of something a tad more comfortable.
“Hi.” Alice replied to Dean before she began to rummage through the trunk again. She had to have some clothes somewhere.
“I thought you might want to borrow these.” Dean held out a pile of clothes consisting of jeans, an plaid overshirt, an old t-shirt and a belt. “I’m not trying to be creepy. I just want to help.”
Alice scanned Dean’s face and body for a moment. She didn’t get this feeling very often, but she knew she could trust him. She couldn’t just quiet put her finger on why, though. Maybe it was a ‘just because’.
“Thanks.” Alice smiled, taking the pile from his hands. She moved back and sat down on the rim of the trunk, placing the pile on her lap and streching out his legs.
Dean was cautious as he sat down beside her, streching out his own legs and folding his arms across his chest.
Alice looked up from the ground, shaking her head to move the hair from her eyes so she could see the stars above her. “Go ahead, ask. I know you want to.”
Dean shook his head and tried his best to lie. “N-No. I-I don’t want to-”
“Dean.” Alice looked at him. “Just ask. I know you’re dying to.”
Dean gave a sorry smile. “Okay. What are you doing in a wedding dress in a place like this? Unless your groom is running late?”
“Well,” Alice sighed. “I was meant to be getting married today, at 2 o’clock this afternoon. Only, when he was meant to be getting ready to meet me down the isle, he was getting undressed with one of my bridesmaid’s helping him.”
“Ooh.”
“You said it.” Alice chuckled. “Yeah, after..half an hour of silent-shock, yelling and enough cursing to make even a sailor blush, I got in my car and started driving.”
“How long were you two together?”
“Nearly 6 years.” Alice explained. “Got engaged after 4. We were going to get married last year but the venue fell through and it was where my parents wanted to hold it so, we had to wait.”
Dean nodded, letting the following silence settle for a few moments before speaking.
“Well, there’s a bathroom on the otherside of the bar where you can get changed and there’s enough liquor to make you forget your own name. What do you say? See you there in 30?”
Alice looked down to her dress for a moment before looking up to Dean. “Better make it 20.”
Dean smiled, clapped his hands and stood up. “Well, then.” Dean held out his hand and helped Alice up. “I’ll see you in 20.”
He saw her in 15.
She left the bathroom with her white gown drapped over her arm in the dress bag from her trunk while the clothing she borrowed was a little big on her but she made it work. Besides, it was more comfortable.
In the bathroom mirror, she had removed the golden pins from her hair and let the curles in her hair fall around her face. If this day had gone any other way, she would think she looked pretty...whimsical. Dreamy. Like in the way you look in a morning and find the love of your life cooking breakfast. Dreamy in the way that you see yourself how they see you on a Sunday morning.
Alice pulled half of her hair back and pinned it up without thinking about it. Some of her baby hairs still fell, framing her face. And, finally, with the use of a small make-up bag from her trunk, she removed her fancy make-up from her face before drying it.
Now she looked more like herself.
“That was quick. You look good, by the way.” Dean said as he moved around behind the bar and popped the caps off a couple of beers before passing them to each customer.
“Thanks.”
“So? What’s your poison?”
“Beer. Please.”
“Coming up.”
Within seconds, a beer was infront of her and she took a swig of the alcohol. “So? Where do you want to begin?”
“I don’t know. Where do you want me to begin?”
“How about the beginning?” Dean asked, looking to her as he mixed a cocktail.
Alice smiled. “The beginning is probably always the best place to start.”
So Alice begun. And Dean listened. Throughout it all.
She started from when she had first met Ronny. There wasn’t much to say so she soon skipped to the engagment and everything that happened between then and the wedding.
“Ronny’s a dick. You deserve better.”
Alice smiled. “Thanks. I think you’re the first to say that to me. Well, second. Sadie would have said the same if we had time to talk before I left.”
“Why? What did you folks say?” But Alice didn’t answer straight away. Instead, she stood up and lifted the door to the bar.
“What are you doing?”
More, many more customers had arrived sicne Alice walked through the doors. “I’m helping. You’re working alone back here and can’t serve everyone all at once. Though you are trying hard to prove otherwise.”
Dean studied her for a moment before walking backwards and pulling a dishtowel from the lower cupboard handle.
“You ever worked in a bar before?”
“Not to my parents knowledge.”
Dean smirked and walked towards her before placing the towel over her shoulder. “Okay then.”
Alice began taking orders and soon found herself in competiton with Dean. Customers egging them on.
“She’s making a mockery out of you, boy.” An older Irish gentleman mocked causing both Dean and Alcie to look at one another and chuckle.
“She sure is, Henry. She sure is.”
This continued throughout the night until eventually people began to head home and Dean began to clean up, Alice helping by clearing the tables and turning the chairs upside down onto the tops before moving to bolt the door.
Dean poured them both a shot each before replacing the bottle. Lifting his glass, Alice did the same.
“To...new beginning?”
Alice smiled. “To new beginning.”
The both downed the shot and turned the glasses over.
“So, tell me.” Dean began. “What do your folks think of all of this?”
“They thought I should still marry him.” Alice fixed herself on one of the barstools, folding over her dishtowel as Dean kept his eyes on her and moved backwards to place back the bottles of liquor they had used.
“You’re kidding!”
Alice shook her head with a light smile. It was nice to know someone other than Sadie and herself disagreed with her parents.
“I am not.” Alice replied. “My mom pulled me aside, me thinking she was about to tell me I should maybe have a drink to take the edge off...but no. She was telling me I should forget it happened. After all,” Suddenly Alice took on a tone which signaled to Dean that these were not her words but rather her mother’s. “A girl like me is only so lucky to find a guy who likes me the way Ronny does.”
“Shit. She really said that?”
“She really said that.” Alice nodded, looking down. “Maybe that’s why I stuck with it for so long. I got so many of the same comments growing up. You’ll never find a guy if you dress like that. You’ll never get a job with a mouth like that.”
“Well, you’ve always got a job here. After tonight, any roadhouse would be lucky to have you pouring the drinks.” It sounded odd, but Alice took it as a compliment.
“Thanks.”
“You got a place to stay?”
“I saw a motel about half a mile up the road so I’ll stay there until I sort something out.”
Dean raised his eyebrows. “You’re staying in town?”
“Might aswell.” Alice shrugged. “The company I work for, they had an opening pop up about a week ago. Make a few calls, find an apartment, a fresh start?”
“Are you not meant to take a mourning period?”
Alice shrugged again. “Maybe. Probably. But right now I’m too tired and too angry to cry. Thank you, Dean. For everything.”
“You know where I am if you need me.” Dean smiled before Alice left.
However, as she got to the door, she quickly turned back and hugged him. “I mean it. Thank you.”
Dean smiled. “Anytime, Alice.”
“G’night, Dean.”
“Night, Alice.”
Over the following months, Alice worked through...everything.
After spending two weeks crying - out of frustration, anger or sadness, she didin’t know - she called Sadie and had her go to her shared apartment and get her stuff out. Sadie wouldn’t have any trouble with running into Ronny since he got on the place and jetted off to Cuba for three weeks with the bridesmaid he’d been sleeping with for the last 10 months.
Sadie sent everything belonging to Alice to her in a couple of boxes which Dean helped her sort through.
There were a few items she wanted to keep, like photos of herself and her friends, but the rest of it...she either donated or drove to an old scrap yard which was Dean’s surprise one late Thurday, and beat the crap and smashed up each piece that could be.
After that, Alice conversed with Sadie to make sure her trnasfer was made as quickly and as smoothly as it could be before herself and Dean went apartment hunting.
Every place Alice went on her own, something felt off with each apartment and she always found it. She didn’t know what it was but she knew it was something. It was the water, or the electrics. So, when Dean offered his help, she accepted.
And she soon found it.
It was a two bedroom apartment, although the second bedroom wasn’t big enough to fit a human adult and their belongings so she would turn it into an office. Dean helped her shop Ikea and a few other places to pick out her furniture and appliances, him pushing the cart as she checked things off her list. She even helped him score a date in Target.
Although, she prevented one from happening when he helped her move in.
“Ow, what?” Dean asked, holding his arm where Alice had smacked his arm.
“You are not sleeping with someone who lived a few doors down. I’m not even moved in yet and I don’t want her asking me why you didn’t call her last night.”
“But she could be my future wife,” Dean argued.
“Well, if she is, then talk to her at the Roadhouse. She comes in every Tuesday.”
“But I’m busy.”
“You made time for me on a Saturday night. If you really want to talk to her, then you’ll find a way. Now, how do we set up this bookshelf?”
The pair of them fell asleep that night in the living room, Dean covering Alice up with a blanket before doing the same with himself.
And then, after six months, Alice got a surprise.
Alice and Dean were tidying the place up since someone had come in and made an offer to Dean he couldn’t refuse, to hold a surprise birthday party/engagment party for a couple in town so the place would be filled with the regulars and their families.
Except, as they were cleaning and setting up for the next day, someone walked in whilst Dean had his back to the counter and Alice was in the back.
“We’re closed. Come back tomorrow- No. Day after tomorrow. We’re closed then, too.” Dean called out as he closed the cash register.
“Please, this will only take a second.”
Dean turned around as he flipped the dish towel over his shoulder. “Bar’s closed. Go home.”
“Please. Just...I’m looking for Alice-” The guy, who Dean didn’t like on sight, stopped talking as Alice came from the back, carrying a case of beers.
“Ronald.”
He smiled. And it made Alice’s stomach queezy. “Alice. You...You’re looking...well.”
Alice rolled her eyes and slammed the case on the counter, Dean knowing better than to stand in her way. He quickly stepped back as she tore open the cardboard case and unloaded the beers into the fridge.
“Ever the complimenter, Ronald.”
“What ever happened to Ronny?” He joked but the look Alice shot him, he quickly shut up with that angle.
Ronny was brutally tortured and killed before being brought back to life only to die again because it was the lesser fate.
“I was hoping we could talk...privately.”
“Speak.”
“Er...Alice. I said privately.”
“And I said, Speak.” Alice stopped packing the beers and lent her hands on the lower bar.
Dean stood back and watched what unfolded. How painfully awkward it was and how, by the end of the 10 minute conversation -- not that Dean was timing it or anything -- Ronny walked out with his tail between his legs and, after listening to the shouts and few swear words leave Alice’s mouth, he realised there was no chance in hell she’d ever go back to him.
Alice waited until his car had left the lot and his tail-lights disappeared onto the main road before she turned around and sunk her hands into her face.
“You okay?”
Alice removed her hands and nodded, folding her arms around herself. “Yeah. I’m sorry you had to-”
“Oh, no. Don’t be. That was...awesome.”
Alice smiled. “Thanks.”
Suddenly, Dean was in front of her, holding her close in a hug. God, she needed that. She needed that hug. She needed to yell at him once more. She needed...this.
And she would have. For another four years...until it became more than she expected.
It had been a busy night filled with laughter, dancing and music.
It was Henry’s second retirement party since his other one lasted all around 5 minutes before he was off to work again. He’d been driving his wife mad being stuck inside the house all day with nothing to do.
“This one will stick.”
“You keep telling yourself that, Henry.”
The banter continued all night and, as the time creeped closer to 10, Henry and his old friends from work called Dean over across the bar.
“When are you going to ask her?”
“Ask who?” Dean asked.
Henry nodded over to Alice who was currently talking to Henry’s daughter who was holding their own baby in their arms.
“Ask Alice. To dance. Good lord man! Have you not asked the girl out yet?”
“I think she’d kill me if I did.” Dean joked.
“Go on, lad. Ask the girl.” Henry slammed his hand down on the bar. “Or Holt here might just beat you to it.”
Dean looked back with a smile before looking back, placing down his towel and walking over.
“That’s it, lad.”
“Alice!”
Alice turned around as Dean came closer. “Care to dance?”
“Didn’t think you did.”
“Maybe I just needed the right partner.” Dean suggested which, if she was being honest, sent butterflies fluttering around her stomach.
“Okay then.”
Soon the pair found themselves on the dance floor, dancing along to the music as the band played and sung away. The music was from the 40s. Although not exactly Dean’s type, he didn’t much care. He was with Alice and that was all that mattered.
Alice was spun out and spun in, and even dipped in Dean’s arms as they danced along. It helped that both were dressed as though from that ear or similar. It had been one of Henry’s requests. For everyone to dress as they once had, back in the day.
He’d never admit it, but he was a sentimentalist.
And this retirement would probably last a week at most.
Only, something seemed to change when the music changed to something slower. Holding each other close, temples pressed together. Dean never thought he would be doing this. Falling in love. Dancing. Wishing he could spend every day with Alice.
He could hear Henry’s voice in the back of his head as he quoted Leap Year. “Dammit man,” he’d slap his hand on the counter, “Kiss the girl.”
That had been a few years ago now. Maybe 2? But he gave that speech almost every week.
Eventually, the night drew to a close and the pair found themselves in a situation that happened every Saturday night or thereabouts.
Alice began clearing the tables and flipping the chairs before moving to bolt the door, meanwhile Dean cleared away the glasses, replace the bottles of liquor but not before pouring them both a shot each.
Dean walked around and met Alice on the other side of the bar before handing her the shot.
“To Henry.”
“To Henry.” Alice smiled before clinking her glass against Dean’s and both of them downing it.
Dean sat with his back to the bolted door whilst Alice sat in front of him.
“How long do you think this one will last?”
“I’d give him 4 days. Tops. Grady was telling me Henry’s already started looking in the Newspaper. He thinks she doesn’t know, but she does.”
Dean smiled. “That’s Henry for you.”
Dean watched as Alice looked around the roadhouse.
“What is it?”
“Nothing,” Alice smiled. “Just...this place.”
“What about this place?” Dean asked.
“If you had told me 4 years ago that this is where I would spend all my time...”
Dean looked around. “Same. I bought this place on a whim, what, 10 years ago? But I wouldn’t want to change a thing.”
“Not even one thing?”
As they looked at one another, everything of the last four years...every moment, every look, every thought, smile and laughter came into one and, between looked from each other’s eyes to lips and back again multiple times. It all finally came together.
It was odd, but not because it was bad. Because it was good.
Alice pulled back, but not too far before she leaned in again. By the end of their second kiss, they both pulled back and after a beat, they smiled. This was it. They were always meant to be friends first but this...together, it felt right.
Both leaned in back again, this time, smiling and more than ready. The kisses grew more heated, Dean standing with his hands pulling Alice in closer by her face and neck.
A small moan came from Alice’s throat as Dean suddenly lifted her, as she went to stand up, and placed her on the countertop of the bar, his hands roaming her body, pulling her closer as Alice’s hands went around his neck and into his hair.
Between the kisses, Alice managed to speak -- though she was seconds from completely never being able to speak again.
“Upstairs.” More kisses. “Now.”
Dean half smirked, half smiled. “Yes, ma’am.”
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The morning light slowly faded in. Above the headboard of his bed lay a window, looking out across the land and hills in the distance. The curtains lay open a little wider since Dean woke up. The light came in with waves of glitter that shimmered above them.
He didn’t know how long he’d been awake. Maybe half an hour? But he wouldn’t move an inch. Beside him, Alice was still asleep and he wouldn’t move for the world.
“Morning.”
Dean turned his head and found Alice awake, and smiled. “Morning.”
Alice smiled back before burying her head downwards. Dean turned to his side and kissed her forehead with a chuckle. Alice could feel his smile against her skin with the rumble of his voice.
“You’re beautiful.”
Alice soon looked back up, the pair just watching one another until the other made the first move.
Alice lent up for a moment, kissing his lips before bringing her hand to his cheek to draw him in closer. Is this what she’d been missing for the last four years?
Dean and herself both smiled into the kiss but before Alice could pull him in closer, he made the first move. Alice found herself lying on her back as Dean’s arms wrapped securely around her and deepened the kiss.
Neither could ask for anything better.

Childhood Crush
Summary; Dean Winchester x Fe!OC -> Dean and Zoey grew up together, they lived across from one another when they were children and their dad's hunted together. But when time begins to move on, and they begin to see each other over and over and over again, will something grow from what they once knew?
Warning; FLUFF, spn hunts, spn level violence, fade to smut, love, swearing, long fic etc.
Tumblr media
Dean and Zoey had known each other since they were 2 years old. Of course, she had only been a baby at the time, but same difference.
They lived directly across the street, Dean's bedroom window looked directly across from Zoey's nursery. And, as they both grew up, every night Dean would get out of his bed once Mary and John had tucked him in. Dean would crawl off his bed and kneel on his window bench, open his curtains a little and wave. Zoey couldn't see him, but he did it anyway.
Except, when he was four and she was two...everything changed. John roped Michael - Zoey's dad - into helping him. Both of the men had a fansination with hunting.
The years that followed, Zoey would stay home with her mom until Mike deemed her old enough to come with them. But, even from a young age, she knew that there had to be something better than this. Something better than watching Dean raise Sam, better than watching both boys learn how to handle weapons rather than learn how to solve 5th grade math. Better than...this life. Hunting.
However, as much as she cared for the boys, there was something that always made her closer to Sam. They understood one another. They had their love for school and a normal life in common. Whereas, Zoey and Dean...well...they butted heads more than they got along.
It had started from a young age. How to clean weapons. Who was better in the Scooby-Gang. What life was better.
But there were two key moments both could remember where everything came to a head. The first was when she was 14 and he was 16.
John and Mike had gone out on another hunt and with Zoey's mom out of the country for a business meeting, it meant all three kids were staying at Bobby's.
"And Dean will be training you."
"Training me? Why does he have to train me? I don't need training."
"Yes, you do. And Dean's the best."
Meanwhile, John was giving the same talk to Dean. But rather than talking back, all Dean said was, "Yes, Sir."
But once they finally left, Dean would come to regret underestermating her and everything that he'd known about her.
Bobby watched from the kitchen window, fixing up some grub for them to eat for the night. Sam was sat in the living room with his english homework writing up an essay to do Gullivers Travels.
Every now and again, he looked up to see Dean and Zoey talking. Well, more like...arguing calmly. But after twenty minutes, Bobby cursed loudly, dropped the plate into the kitchen sink and ran outside.
Zoey had been sparring with Dean when all of a sudden, Dean got into a readied stance and Zoey shocked him by running up the side of a car, jumping over his shoulders and within a few moments found himself on the ground with Zoey stood above him, his arm twisted and her foot on his chest.
"Boy, are you okay?" Bobby asked as Zoey eventually let him go. She had to walk away, her rage still rattling her. Bobby helped Dean up from the ground who was just as shocked, if not more, than Bobby.
"What the hell was that?" Bobby asked, turning to look at her.
"That was sparring."
"No, that was nearly killing Dean!"
Zoey looked from Bobby to Dean, making a point of repeating his words back to him. "What? I thought he could handle my 'girly' fighting. Besides, isn't what this is meant to be? Us learning how to defend ourselves against those things out there? Because apparently school work isn't as important."
There was a hammered silence between the three of them. Zoey looked down with her hand on her hips, taking in deep breaths before she finally looked up. "I'm gonna go help Sam with his homework."
Once she was out of ear shot and inside the house, Bobby looked back to Dean and checked him over. He had a small cut on his forehead from where she'd cut him or where he'd fell and cut himself. Zoey had done everything so fast, Dean just really dropped to the floor without any warning.
"I've got a kit upstairs. You know where it is. Go and clean it. Did you know she had that in her?"
Dean just shook his head but soon regretted it because only now did he realise the ammount of pressure that was inside his head.
"No. I didn't even know she could punch as hard as she did."
"She punched you?" Bobby hadn't seen that part.
Dean had to let out a chuckle. If he didn't, he wondered if he might actually cry. "Yeah, earlier. I told her to take a swing at me."
"Did you try and stop it?"
Dean just shrugged at Bobby's question. But he wasn't asking it out of worry, he was asking it because he didn't think Dean was that dumb.
"What? I've never seen her punch anything before. I didn't know she knew how to fight! You didn't!"
"Alright, get inside. Grub's almost done." And as Dean walked away, all Bobby could do was remove his cap, fix his hair before replacing the cap on his head, shake his head and mumble. "Kids."
The second time everything came to a head and when Dean and Zoey came very close to killing one another was when he was 17 and she was only 15.
Zoey had voulenteered to go with Mike and John on the hunting trip. She was done with her mid-terms and Sam had been begging her to go and, if she didn't feel anything else towards his older brother, she would have wanted to go just to see him.
Zoey sometimes wondered if she did harbour a crush on Dean Winchester but then he'd do something that would make her want to kill him, or punch him, or...she didn't know. Embarrass him in front of the girls at school so maybe he'd actually listen to her.
Dean had a habit of that. Not listening to her.
One day, Mike and John had decided to take the kids into the woods to 'train' them again. It was fucked up to Zoey, and secretly to Dean. Dean was okay with doing it himself, but John making Sam do it? Mike roping Zoey into it? No. Absolutley Not.
They'd set up different traps and senarios for them to go around to make sure they could defend themselves in the best way possible.
They were soldiers getting ready for battle.
Zoey and Dean found themselves together on a team. Mike on his own and Sam and John together. It was the first time Dean had actually seen a smile on Sam and John's face in a long time. And they were smiling together. That made Dean feel happier than ever.
But, as they got around, Zoey and Dean found themselves cornered. Or lost. They didn't really know.
"We're lost." Zoey called out to Dean as she looked around but he just shushed her.
"What? It's not like they can hear us. This is probably apart of it. Get lost in the woods and find your way out and back home safely."
Dean shushed her again. Zoey just rolled her eyes.
"I can see you doing that."
"You're not even looking at me."
"But I can feel you doing it."
"That's not the same as seeing it. To actually see it, you have to be looking at me when I do it, Smart-Ass. And you weren't doing either."
"Would you just shut up for a second? Wait! What was that?" A branch broke.
Dean moved a step more.
Another one broke.
"I think they're out here."
Zoey stood back and watched him, "Seriously?" she asked herself and rolled her eyes again before calling out; "That you, you idiot!"
Dean looked down and behind him. "Oh."
Zoey now marched towards him. "Yeah, 'oh'. Come on, the motel's back this way."
"No it's not." Dean argued. "We came from the south."
"No, we came from the west."
"We came from the south. That's south." Dean said, pointing it its direction.
They were face to face with one another now, Dean towering over her slightly.
"No. That's East. That's South. And that's West. We came from the west." Zoey corrected him.
"No, it's not."
"Yes, it is." Zoey replied copying his tone. "You want me to make you a compass so you can see?"
Dean stared at her for a few moments before heading off in his direction.
"Where the hell are you going?!"
"Back to the motel!"
"You're going the wrong way! And they said not to split up!"
"You're welcome to join me!" Dean called back out, not looking back.
Zoey remained quiet for a second watching him walk away. He was going the wrong way and usually she would have left him but Sam would kill her if she did. So, with a loud groan, she followed him.
Dean heard her as she hurried to catch up, smirking to himself.
"You can wipe that stupid smirk off your face, while your at it."
"To see it, you have to actually be looking at me!" Dean called to her.
"Don't quote me to me. And, actually, I can see it. Every time you do that smirk of yours, it somehow makes its way into your walk."
Dean dropped the smirk and grumbled under his breath; "Smart-Ass."
"I heard that!"
It was a few months after that when all hell broke loose.
Dean was sat at the motel room table cleaning their weapons whilst herself and Sam were sat on one of the beds and she was helping him with his math homework.
"But how?!" was mostly Sam's reaction when it came to the answers. So she would go back and explain it again, and again, and again until he finally understood it.
Meanwhile, John and Mike were discussing the next case before John got annoyed and raised his voice turning to his son and Zoey.
"You don't even need that! What you need to be doing is research!"
Zoey, before realising she'd even spoken, spoke out in a sarcastic tone. "Yeah, because that's true."
"Excuse me?"
"What?"
"What's that meant to mean?" John asked her.
Zoey looked between John, Dean, her father and then Sam before back to John. She'd been harbouring these words for a long time. Maybe it was about time someone told him what for.
"Okay." Zoey sat up, placing her pen down and her feet on the floor. "I don't believe your research, the stuff you want Sam to do, is what he should be doing."
"And why not?"
"Because he deserves a life outside of all of this!" Zoey said with a small scoff.
"Listen here, Lady-"
No time like the present.
Zoey quickly stood up before John could finish. "No. You listen. You drag these boys around the whole fucking country their whole lives. No stability. No hope. Just plain, brutal killing. That's it. No family. No care. No love. No Life! You expect them to know everything before they've already done it and you expect the best!"
"As I should-"
"You expect them to be the best Hunters. Not students. Not kids. Not men. Hunters. Soldiers. Soldiers for your own sick and twisted crusade of finding the thing that killed your wife!"
John now stood. "Don't you dare-"
"Talk about Mary?" Zoey asked. "Why? Why should I? We all knew her didn't we? She's their mother! She was your wife! She was his best-friend. She was my mom's best-friend. Why shouldn't we talk about her? She's what this is all about, isn't she? She's why you do this, isn't it? Why you drag Sam and Dean from school to school, from hunt to hunt, with not a care whether you live or die. Whether they live or die! Because if you pulled your head out of your ass-"
"Zoey!" Mike scolded. But there was no stopping her.
"Because if you pulled your head out of your ass for just two fucking seconds, you'd realise that this isn't what Mary would have wanted for her boys! Right now! Right now Dean should be thinking about college or work-"
"He is working!"
"He's cleaning weapons! Guns! Something he's been doing since he was 7 years old. And that's only if he's not raising Sam because you can't be bothered to even look at your son's as son's rather that soldiers!"
Dean now stood up, annoyed, angry and frustrated. But at who? He didn't really know.
"Hey! Don't talk about me like I'm not here! And who said I even wanted to go to college?"
Zoey now looked at him, directly. "Yeah, but should at least get the choice."
After a quick second of silence that felt like it lasted a life time, she looked back to John and Mike.
"You both sit there, day in, day out, solving other people's issues because you can't fix your own. Right now, Sam should be in a bedroom, with a desk, worrying over his math homework there. Not in here being surrounded by crime scene photos that have been illegally obtained. I understand you think that there is a point to this, that you think that by putting yourself in danger that you're protecting others but did you ever think, just for two seconds, about the people you should be protecting? About who should come first in your life?" Zoey was now moving around the room, unable to remain still. She was too angry. Too enraged.
"You have a family." Zoey told John before looking to her own father. "You both do."
That hit home.
"What you should be doing is protecting your children, your families. You should be thinking that you have someone to come home to and if something happen to you, that there are people who would be lost without you. And I'm sorry, but none of this should be happening! God, you say that you're doing this to avenge your wife but in fact it's nothing more than an excuse to take your anger out on your children for being the ones that lived. Taking your anger out on other people because they weren't hurt. I'm sorry John, but Mary wouldn't want this! And you finding this Demon won't bring her back! She'd dead, John and maybe it's about time you accepted that!"
However, just as Zoey finished, she found herself in Dean's hands as he dragged her back and was about to pin her to the wall only, a roar ripped out from John and Mike and, sort of, Sam since Zoey wasn't about to be the one on the wall.
Instead, Zoey was dragged back but quickly flipped the control and Dean, shockingly, found himself as the one trapped.
Both were breathing heavily and deeply. Zoey's voice became calmer as she looked Dean in the eyes. His body language said he was angry. He was ridged. Stern. But his eyes. Zoey could see the truth.
He was hurting. He was breaking.
"I'm sorry, Dean. I really am. No kid should ever have to go through what you and Sam did. But this isn't right. You and I both know it." The pair kept their gazes on one another and she felt Dean's body under her arms relax a little, so she did the same in return.
"Mary's death was an accident. Or maybe it was fate. But it couldn't be prevented. And I know that's what you think this is. Hunting: Preventing other accidents. But the truth is, when time is up, it's up. You can't stop it. You can't slow it down. It hurts but you can't just alter the world with a click of your fingers or a shot of your gun. Sometimes things happen and we have no power or control over it and letting others try and beat it out of us to say that you can...it won't work. It doesn't work." Slowly, Zoey let Dean go and stepped back.
The entire room was silent. No-one moved. No-one said a word. Not even John.
After holding Dean's gaze and seeing the truth in his eyes, Zoey turned to look at her father.
"You finish this hunt and finish all together and come home, or you don't come home at all." Zoey told him, her gaze locked on his eyes. There wasn't a raise in her voice. She was steady. Ready. She'd accepted what she had to do and it was his choice, but either way she was ready. Zoey was ready to either hold on to him or let go. It was his choice.
"I've see the fear in mom's eyes every time the phone rings. I'm not going to be apart of that fear. I'm going home. I'll either see you there or we say goodbye now and I tell mom that your not coming home. That way, she can move on and not live in fear anymore." Zoey explained. "You took vows to protect her and any children you'd have together. Are you going to break them?"
There was that silence again.
"Okay, then."
Zoey moved over towards the bed and pulled her bag out from under the bed, packed the last of her books into the bag, grabbed her jacket and swung the bag strap over her shoulder.
Zoey made it to the door, opening it up when Sam stood up. "Wait!"
Zoey looked back and was greeted with Sam's body colliding into hers, hugging her tightly. She smiled, kinda sadly, and hugged him back just as tight.
"Please don't go." Sam whispered.
"I'll be seeing you." Zoey smiled at him. The only people close enought to see her eyes were Sam and Dean.
Dean didn't move from his spot but they made eye contact as Sam stood back from the door to let her go. Zoey gave a sad smile towards Dean and a small nod before it dropped as she looked to John and Mike.
And without another look, she grabbed hold of the door handle and closed the motel door behind her. She caught a Greyhound 40 minutes later and was on her way home.
After a week, Mike decided to go home. Hunting wasn't worth loosing his wife and daughter. Zoey had made her point and she wouldn't have to make it again, ever.
John understood but cursed him out all the same. That night Mike drive home and arrived back at 7 in the morning the next day. Zoey looked at him and after a few nervous seconds on his end, she rushed to him and hugged him.
Over the years, Sam and Zoey kept in touch but with John always being by Dean's side and making a point that they should never talk to them again, Sam never told anyone.
Zoey passed her exams and headed off to college, eventually graduating as a certified Vet.
But, even by the time Sam left Dean and John to go to college, he didn't see Zoey.
Yet, Dean did.
It was about a year into Sam being at college and Dean was on his own hunt. A couple of spirits possessing a few bodies around down.
Only, with the spirits he'd miscounted, he had a job on his hands.
It was the dead of night when Dean finally broke into the family funeral-home thing and after about an hour, the attacks started coming but just as he finally, maybe, found the thing that was tying them to the world since their bodies had be cremated, a spirit come to attack him and just as they were about to throw a marble slab into his face, a match was struck and the spirts all appeared and bust into flames.
Behind the real flames, Dean saw a face he recognised. It was a little older but still held the same beauty and anger as he'd know before.
"That's the last time I save your ass, Winchester."
Zoey said no more and walked outside. Dean was quick to scramble to his feet and follow after her.
"What- Why are you here?"
"I live here."
"In...Applewood Cemetary?"
Zoey looked back to him with her eyebrow raised and rolled her eyes. "In town, idiot."
"Did you follow me here?"
"I did. Spotted you coming out of the computer room in the library. Gathered you were looking into the deaths."
"You knew there was a case here?" Dean asked. "Did you even think about checking it out?"
"I have a day job, Dean." Zoey sighed. "That I also do night-shifts on. I have others to look after, Dean."
"Not once-"
Zoey zipped around to look at him. "You could just say 'Thank you' and we can part way again."
"Why did you save me?"
"Because I'd rather not be accused of murder. Also, Sam would kill me if I let you die." Zoey pulled out her car keys and unlocked her car.
"You still speak to Sam?"
"Yeah. Heard about how it went down. Sorry." Zoey said before getting into her car. "But, you should call him. He misses you."
"He could always call me, too."
Zoey rolled her eyes and got into her car, rolling down the window before starting the engine. "You're both too stubborn for your own good. Call Sam! It will be good for both of you!" Zoey called out to him before pulling out of the cemetary and heading home.
Dean stayed in town an extra night, watching as people came in and out of the Vet practice across the street. They looked happy. Zoey...Zoey looked happy.
Dean looked to his phone again, Sams contact bright on the screen. Maybe he should listen to her for once. She had always been complaining that he never listen to her when she should.
But as he went to call Sam, his phone screen flashed.
Dad.
Maybe listening to Zoey for once would have to wait.
And he did. For another few years.
The world had almost ended 50 times over by the time Dean saw Zoey again. They'd gone from moving around motels to finally finding the Bunker.
It had been pretty quiet recently, going back to their Moster-of-The-Week hunts. And they had to admit...they'd missed it.
But it was one Tuesday morning when Dean was going filling up Baby's engine and spotted someone from the corner of his eye.
He had just been looking around, wondering if anyone was watching him. He couldn't be too careful. That was when he saw a woman. She was a few years older now, but still as beautiful. Her hair was pulled back in a messy pony tail whilst she wore green scrubs and running trainers on her feet.
She had rushed into the gas n' sip, smiling at the person who held the door open for her. "Thank you."
Dean watched as she rushed inside and grabbed a sandwhich from the back fridges, a couple bags of chips and finally a drink before paying at the counter, running back across the street where she narrowly avoided being run over -- so many times she'd stopped Sam, and Dean, from doing the same thing when they were younger. Dean watched then as she ran inside a clinc style building.
She had a practice in Witchita? 20 minutes from the bunker?
Moments later, Dean pulled up outside the Bunker and rushed inside.
"You'll never guess who I've just seen." Dean began, seeing Sam sat in the Map Room on his laptop.
"Amy Adams?"
Dean placed the plastic gas n' sip bag on the table, unloading the food. "Zoey."
Sam looked up. "Zoey? Wait- Zoey-Zoey? Our Zoey?"
Dean nodded. "She's working at a practice in Witchita."
"Seriously?" Sam asked.
Dean nodded again. "The lady at the counter said she came into town a few weeks ago."
"Do you know where she's staying?"
"No. My guess is in the motel down the street."
"Should we...I don't know...check in on her? I mean, we haven't seen her since...since I was, what? 18?"
Dean had never told Sam that he'd seen Zoey after he was 17 and when she saved his life. Now, he didn't know why. It just never really came up.
"I mean...we could try? But I doubt she'd want to see us again."
"Why?"
"Do you seriously not remember how it ended?" Dean questioned his brother. "She was tearing a new one into dad and then she nearly beat my ass to the ground again before she left. She looks happy, Sam."
"I say we go and see how she's doing."
"I can tell you how she's doing. She's happy."
Sam chuckled. "Dean, come on. It's not like we're dragging her back into the game or asking for her help. We want to see her."
"We do?"
"I do." Sam said. "Do you?"
Dean didn't answer right away. Did he want to see her? He hadn't thought about for in a long time and then today he saw her and...
"Fine."
And with that, they were driving around town looking for her motel. Sam went into the practice just before it shut, asking for Zoey but the girl at the reception desk said they'd just missed her but she would be back in the morning.
But, eventually, they found her motel.
"There's got to be reason she's here." Dean whispered under his breath.
"There is." Sam smiled, looking up from the laptop on his lap. "She's got her own practice here, man."
"But don't you find it...I don't know...freaky. We don't see her for years and then suddenly, she'd in the exact same town we are, no more than a 20 minute walk from the Bunker?"
Sam just smiled. "No, Dean. I don't find it freaky. It's just a fluke. Look."
Sam turned the laptop so Dean could see. "She's a renound vet. All her clients love her and so do their owners. She's got her own practice in five different states. This one is her new one. Maybe it's just fate."
"Do you not remember the last time we dealed with fate? She tried to kill us!"
"Fate tried to kill you?"
Dean, slightly embarrassingly, let out a small scream as he heard a voice from behind him. Both of the brothers had jumped and turned around to find Zoey, leaning down and looking into the car.
"Zoey." Sam said with a smile of relief.
"Hi, Sam." She smiled back before looking at Dean. "Fate tried to kill you?"
"Yes." Dean answered. "But an Angel saved us." Dean answered honestly and quickly before he looked around Zoey and found that she and they were the only ones in the parking lot. "Wait. How long have you been watching us?"
Zoey looked to her watch, estimating. "About half an hour. I was in the diner across the street when I heard your car. I've got grub if you want some. I'll be inside."
Without another word, Zoey stood up and walking into her motel room, leaving the door open for the brothers. Only, they were a little slow catching on.
So, standing in the open door way, Zoey held up a bag of food. "It's getting cold! You can either sit out their and freeze your asses off or you can come in! It's your choice!"
"Alright, alright. We're coming."
By the time they made it inside, Dean shutting the door behind them, Sam and Zoey were already hugging.
"God, you're so tall."
"Yeah," Sam chuckled awkwardly. "I kinda shot up after you left."
"I think that's an understatement." Zoey joked. "Food's on the table. I got your usual order. Chicken burger and a side salad. Got your's too, Dean." Zoey held it up. "Double bacon cheeseburger, extra onions."
"You remembered our orders?" Sam asked.
"Figured you'd both be hungry."
"How've you been?" Dean asked.
"I've been good. I heard about your dad...I'm sorry."
Dean nodded but Sam answered for him. "Thanks."
"I heard through the grape vine that you boys nearly ended the world and then fixed it again so...thank you for that." Zoey was unpacking some of her groceries into the mini fridge.
"You're welcome." Sam said just before Dean asked; "How'd you find out about that?"
As Zoey finished cleaning up the side, she turned around with a sigh and folded up the dish towel.
"After dad came back...it wasn't long until he went back out again. Just a couple of investigations here and there but he went back to it. I yelled at him. Mom yelled at him. He yelled at us. Mom kicked him out. I saw him at my graduation and he said he wanted to see me. He missed having his family. I told him it was too late. Over the years, a couple things came up and other hunters came to deal with them. Then, I got a call. Windigo attack. DOA. So, they brought him home. He had a Hunter's funeral. Bobby called me. He gave his condolances, I asked about you two. He said that you two sons-of-bitches were being a pain in his ass."
Dean chuckled. "That was Bobby for you."
Zoey smiled. "He updated me on everything and would call to check in with me once in a while."
"He never told us that."
Zoey nodded. "But he told be all about you two. Also, do you two ever stop to live?!"
Oh, boy.
"I understand him not listening to me," Zoey began pointing to Dean. "But you, Sam? Seriously?"
"Okay, okay. You may have a point."
"Oh, I have a million of them."
"But we're alive right now. Look. See."
The conversation soon turned to something else. Zoey told them all about her practice and could see Dean was still weary about the fact that she suddenly turned up in the same town as them.
They told her about everything else. About Lucifer and Michael. About meeting their Grandfather and how they're legacies. The whole story.
"Why are you living here anyway?" Dean asked, looking around. "If I remember correctly, you use to say we all needed a proper home."
Zoey nodded. "I've been looking but none of the houses are right for me. Even apartments. I went to look at one last week, the plumming was done so the toilet was in the middle of the master bedroom and that the electrics in the living room switch the oven on in the kitchen. Another, I'd be living in between a crazy cat lady and a guy who hangs outside his neighbours door, upside down. And don't even get me started on the upstairs neighbour."
"What if you lived with us?" Sam asked before looking to Dean. "I mean, you wouldn't have to pay. The place runs on magic as it is. It's warm and you wouldn't even have to have neighbours if you didn't want. There's like 50 rooms. An entire library, and we're usually away hunting. And it's warded so no-one can get in. You'd be safe. At least until you find a place you like?"
Zoey was surprised. She looked to Dean who seemed to agree with Sam. Why not? The Bunker was nice place, she'd be safe, she was just down the road from her practice and she wouldn't be living in a motel for the next year and a half.
It took some convincing but eventually Zoey agreed. It would just be like old times. Except, with less of the training and less of the whole out-of-fashion-even-for-the-70s vibe.
In the months that followed, everything ran pretty smoothly. Sam and Dean still continued on as they did, except when they came back from a hunt they actually had someone who knew how to do stitches and avoid infection.
Sometimes, like usual, Zoey would scold the both of them for getting hurt or not listening to her. She knew the lives they led meant that the chances of getting hurt were slim to non, but they could at least try.
Zoey walked to work every day and if she got back before the boys, she'd cook or if they were back before her, they would, well...Dean would.
Sam typically cooked breakfast since he was up at the crack of dawn.
But, as the months passed, it wasn't long before Zoey met Charlie.
Charlie had called. She had a week off work and she was due a major binge of tv, snacks and catch up with her two favourite hunters.
But, the boys had sort of forgot to mention that they had Zoey staying with them. And Dean couldn't have regretted it more. It would have at least avoided Zoey finding out about the Supernatural Books.
It was around 3 o'clock that Charlie got in, and after a long catch up on when she had been doing and what the boys had been hunting, they all turned as they heard the Bunker door open and saw Zoey walking down in her green scrubs and coat with her hair, once again, tied back in a messy pony tail.
"Oh, my god."
"Uh...Charlie. This is..Zoey. Zoey. This is Charlie."
Zoey smiled. "Hi."
But Charlie smiled back, although more star-struck than ever. "Oh my god. Zoey? This is Zoey?" Charlie looked to Dean who was a little confused. "This is the Zoey that beat you in training? The one you had, like, a major crush on?"
"What?" Zoey asked, looking slightly worried, flicking her eyes between the red head and Dean.
Dean flushed bright red as he walked backwards. "What? No. No. No, no. She- Huh - She's uh...She's just kidding. I - I'm gonna go and check on Sam."
"He's not cooking is he?" Zoey asked.
"What? Oh, no. We've ordered pizza."
"Oh, thank god."
By the time Dean slipped away and towards the kitchen, Zoey hung up her coat before turning to Charlie.
"It's nice to meet you. Sam told me your guys met on a hunt? Before Dean ended up in Purgatory?"
"Oh, yeah. I was working for Dick Roman at the time. Well, a Livaithan, but I thought it was Dick Roman and..." Charlie trailed off in the conversation and by the time Sam and Dean came back in from the kitchen with pizza boxes and beers, both of them stopped in their tracks.
"You guys have books written about you?" Zoey took a beer from Dean.
"What?"
"The Supernatural Books?"
"Charlie." Dean scolded.
"What?" Charlie asked, innocently. "I thought she already knew about them."
"Can I find this books?"
"They're on-"
"No. Absolutley not." Dean warned to Zoey but she just laughed and smiled back.
"No what?"
"You are not reading those books."
"And why not?" Zoey asked.
"Because it's...weird. They're weird. Look, just...promise me you won't read them."
Zoey could see a look in Dean's face that intruiged her. There was something, or maybe many things in those books that they both wanted to hide. But...she nodded.
"Fine. I won't read them."
"It's okay, I have! I can tell you everything."
Dean took hold of the back of Charlie's chair and pushed her down the hall away from Zoey.
"I'll take it that I'm not allowed to either, then!" Charlie called out from down the hall before eventually rolling herself back.
Charlie left a few days later and they all went back to how they were before. Only, there came a time when they'd needed Zoey's help.
They'd been on a hunt about an hour away from the bunker. Nothing was adding up until eventually it did.
There was a werewolf pack experimenting. On humans, babies, animals. Turning them all. Sam and Dean had called Zoey on as much information as they could get about putting animals to sleep, just for a while - like they'd do in surgery.
"Dean, I swear, if you're about to do something stupid-"
"You know me. I'm careful."
"No, you are not. Look, do you need my help? Because I can-"
"No. Zoey. I didn't call you to bring you back in."
But she went back in anyway.
Sam and Dean had found the back, gathered together for a meeting in a barn just south of town. They all fought, they all either got hurt or were the ones hurting and just as one of the wolves sent off two shots of Dean's gun, by the time the third one was done, Dean found that it hadn't hit him but he had been hit by something.
Sam came behind the final wolf, killing him dead when the two brothers turned and found Zoey lay beside Dean.
"Ow."
Dean didn't have time to think as he turned to help her get into a more confortable position and called out for Sam to get the first aid kit.
Zoey had put one in their car just a few days after she moved into the Bunker. Dean had found it on their next hunt and it made him smile.
"What ever happened to 'that's the last time I save your ass, Winchester.'" Dean was worried as he looked for the wound in semi-darkness.
Zoey felt okay. It hurt but she would be okay.
"Well, this is definitely the last time." Zoey half-joked.
She could feel Dean beside her, looking for a wound when she took his hand and placed it to where it was bleeding.
It hadn't hit anything too serious. And the bullet wasn't that deep. She was lucky. They both were.
"Can you stand?" Dean asked after a sigh of relief.
"I think."
Dean carefully helped her up to her feet. "Here, put your weight against me."
Dean got her outside to her car and sat her on the rim of Baby's trunk. "Can I?"
Zoey nodded. "Sam, can you drive my car back?"
"Sure."
Zoey gave him the keys before Dean gave his brother a reassured look. "We're okay here. Go on ahead."
Sam nodded and headed off, driving Zoey's car back to the Bunker.
"I thought I told you to stay home."
"And I thought I told you to be careful. You almost got yourself killed, Dean! I wasn't just going to stay at home and wait for Sam to tell me he's sold his soul this time."
Dean cleaned out her wound and patched it up as best as he could. "I need to clean this place out before we leave."
"I'll help you-"
"No, you will sit there and not go dying on me. I'll be back soon."
A few hours later, Dean was finished and they were back at the Bunker. They all got a good nights sleep, waking up mid-day. Thankfully, it was a Sunday and the practice was shut for the day so Zoey could sleep in without a worry.
As the day passed, Zoey cleaned her wound and patched it up but was struggling to get the bandage to stay since every time she twisted, it only hurt her more - what with the bullet having hit her side.
"Zo? Zoey?"
"In here!" Zoey called out from her bathroom.
Dean walked in further until he found her. "Sam finished the ironing so I brought your clothes- What are you trying to do?"
"This...it won't stay. Everytime I twist it just-"
Dean placed her clothes down on the bed and moved over to her. "Come here. Stand still."
Zoey stood infront of the mirror and watched as Dean pulled the bandage gently around her waist and back and forth until it was secure.
Only now did she realise she was stood in her joggers and a sports bra. It was the only was she could see the wound without her t-shirt getting in the way.
Dean tied it securely around her middle before standing back up straight and meeting her gaze in the mirror.
"Done."
Zoey smiled. "Thanks."
Only, as Dean smiled back, he looked down realising his hands were still on her shoulders and arms. But, a second later, that was when he saw something.
A scar.
Old, but still there.
Zoey seemed to notice as his gaze changed from whatever that moment was to seeing her scar. Swiftly, she moved around and smiled. "Thanks."
Zoey quickly zipped from his side and out to her room to grab a freshly warmed t-shirt.
Everything in Dean wanted to know where and how that had happened. How had she been hurt? When had she been hurt? Was if a pet with anxiety or was it something else? Was it a hunt?
But he could tell that she didn't want to talk about it. Or she would have mentioned something by now.
She kept her back to him as she put her t-shirt on. "Thanks for bringing my clothes."
"You're welcome. I- I'll see you later."
"Yeah, see you later."
Dean left after a short moment and once he did, the door closing behind him, Zoey sat on her bed.
Before he spotted her scar, there had been this feeling in her stomach. Usually, she wouldn't have cared about what she was wearing. Clearly Dean didn't. He didn't even notice. But she did. And when he looked at her in the mirror...his face when he saw the scar.
That scar played on Dean's mind for two months. He wondered if she'd ever tell him. Maybe it was nothing? Maybe it was just a pet she had been looking after? But her reaction...how she tried to hide it...it couldn't just be nothing.
But, he finally got his answer after two months when himself and Zoey were staying in a motel together.
She was checking in on one of her other practices since the very first client of hers had another pet and only wished to see Zoey. A puppy with a broken paw.
Dean decided to go with her since Sam was going to see Elieen for the weekend, so he would have just been on his own.
"Hey, how was it?" Dean asked as Zoey came in after almost 14 hours of being out of the room.
Zoey collapsed onto the bed. "All done. I have to go back in and check on him in the morning but he's sleeping for now. I need a shower but I don't want to get up."
Dean chuckled. "Well, there's chinese in the fridge if you want some."
Zoey was up at that. "Ooh."
She hadn't eaten since this morning.
Around 2 hours later, she had eaten and found the energy to have a shower before she finally came back out in her pjs. She hadn't put her jumper on yet since her hair was dripping wet.
Dean watched as she sat on the edge of the bed and towel dried her hair. And that was when he spotted it again. The scar.
"Dean."
"What? Sorry." Dean realised he'd been staring.
"You can ask, if you want to."
"I didn't know if you'd want to tell me."
Zoey moved her hair back and moved her shirt, showing him. She called him over and he sat beside her on the bed.
"How'd it happen?"
"About two years after I last saw you." Zoey answered. They were both so close to one another than it caused them both to speak just above a whisper. "There were a couple hunters in town. They had a spirit case. They called me and begged for my help. I got there and one of them was bleeding out. But, they hadn't burnt the body yet so the spirit was more pissed than ever. It threw me against a tree before I came crashing to the ground. Threw in a book of matches and then saved the guys life."
Dean traced a finger, gently across the scar, scared he'd hurt her. But she just smiled and whispered; "It doesn't hurt."
Dean chuckled softly. "Sorry."
The scar finished at the back of her neck and as Dean's finger stopped at the top, he looked to Zoey.
There was that look again.
It was the same look they had shared before he noticed the scar in the first place.
Their eyes searched one anothers for a small moment before they flicked to the lips and back up. Before either of them knew it, they were moving in closer and finally met in the middle.
Their lips met in a soft kiss. Gentle. New. Unfamiliar yet...like forever. Like they had done this forever. That it should be done forever.
They both pulled back, their foreheads pressed against the others, their eyes still shut.
Wow.
Eventually, they opened their eyes and found they were both smiling. And it wasn't long until they kissed again. Zoey's hand was placed gently against Dean's cheek whilst the hand that had play at the top of her neck moved around and held her in closer. They each smiled into the kiss.
This is what they had been waiting for.
The passion behind the kiss, they could feel growing. Dean pulled her flush against his chest before they found their bodies moving for them.
Slowly, Zoey found herself on her back, Dean crawling to be over her body before he was above her.
They both pulled back in need of breath.
Just simply looking at her was enough to make her blush. Dean moved a strand of her hair from her face and behind her ear before he let his hand rest of her cheek. Even in partial darkness, he could see her loving blush. But that wouldn't have mattered because he could feel her smile and blush through his palm.
Slowly, he moved back down. Looking from her eyes to her lips and back again for confirmation, she nodded before Dean kissed her again.
Zoey hands pulled him in closer by his face, feeling the kiss deepen, and deepen and deepen.
It wouldn't be until the next day that either of them would talk about it, but even when they did, they already knew the answer.
Zoey's alarm went off at 6 and Dean groaned.
"Sorry."
She quickly shut it off and lay back down, Dean moving himself to hold her closer against him. He was like a human heater for her as he did so and she didn't want to leave.
"Wait." Dean grumbled when she tried to move.
But, as much as she wanted to stay by his side, she had a puppy to check on.
So, she used her initiative to make sure she could get out of bed. Even if what she was about to do would make her want to stay.
She leaned up and pulled Dean closer kissing him, his arms around her becoming more secure as she made sure he stayed down until finally, she kissed him a final time and rushed off the bed.
"Hey,"
Zoey just laughed and rushed into the bathroom. "You're welcome to join me!"
A while later, they both left the bathroom, this time Dean wrapped with a towel around his waist and Zoey in some fresh scrubs.
"Wait."
Dean pulled her back in before she left, and kissed her. "Be careful."
"I thought I was meant to be saying that to you." She smiled.
Zoey kissed him again but slowly backed out of his arms and rushed to the door. "I'll be back soon."
It got to around mid-day when Dean strolled into her practice. No-one was in since the place was shut for the day so, he called out and heard Zoey call back.
"Back here!"
Dean came through carrying a couple of sandwiches and coffee. "Thought you could use a break."
"Ah," Zoey smiled, closing the cage of the kitten she had been checking over. "You are a life saver. Both literally and metaphorically."
"Shouldn't I be saying that to you, you know, since you took a bullet for me?"
"I don't mind hearing it."
But Dean kissed her instead. The kisses peppered a little and she smiled. "Even better."
"Coffee."
"Thank you."
"So, Sam called. He said he and Eileen are gonna be staying at the cabin for a few more days so I was thinking maybe, before we go back to the Bunker I take you somewhere." Dean smiled.
Zoey looked at him as she took another sip of her coffee.
"Oh, god. You're not about to kill me, are you?"
Dean chuckled, "No. Just...once you've finished up here meet me back at the motel."
Zoey smiled and leaned over to kiss him. She placed down her coffee and wrapped her arms around Dean, him doing the same with her with his hands on her hips.
The pair shared a kiss that only deepened. Both Zoey and Dean smiled into the kiss before they let go, but they still held onto one another, smiling.
They'd both waited a life time for this.
Eventually, Zoey shut the practice for the night and met Dean outside the motel. He'd picked up food for both of them and had already packed the car up.
"Ready to go?"
"Yep." Zoey smiled before Dean pulled her in for another kiss, not that she minded.
Dean drove the few hours towards their home town. As much as Dean wanted to avoid this place years ago, he'd found a happy memory to focus on now.
Eventually, he pulled into a small field and turned to his side. Zoey was fast asleep in the passenger seat, her head against the bench.
He watched her for a moment. She looked so peaceful. He felt peaceful. Right now, there was no worry. There was no hunt or moster of the week. It was just them and no-one else. Nothing else. Just them and a billion stars in the sky.
Gently, he shook her awake.
Zoey fluttered her eyes open and looked around, a little confused.
"You are going to kill me."
Dean just smiled. "Come with me."
"Okay, but if you kill me? Sam will kill you. And so will all my clients."
"Just come on."
Streching, Zoey got out of the car and followed Dean from where he grabbed the blanket from the trunk and lay it down on the ground a little further away.
However, as she looked around Zoey realised where they were.
"We're in Lawrence?"
Dean nodded.
Zoey joined him on the ground and lay her head on his chest as he covered them both with another blanket.
They lay there in silence for a while, looking above and watching the stars.
"When I was a kid, I'd get out of bed every night to wave at you from my window." Dean admitted as they lay there.
He hadn't hought about it in years until last night.
Zoey moved herself so she lay her head on top of her hands that lay on his chest, so she could look at him.
"Mom would tuck me into bed and the moment I heard her door close, I'd bound out of bed and sit under my window and wave to you. Every night."
Dean now looked to her. Zoey could tell every word he'd just said was the complete truth.
"I knew you couldn't see me but I waved anyway."
Zoey smiled and leaved over to kiss him. It felt different than the others. More...intimate. More...thankful. After all this time, she might never have grown up across from him. They might never have met. They might never have fought or loved. They might never have had this life together.
"Thank you for telling me that." Zoey said, her voice quiet.
"You were my first crush. I was so embarrassingly in love with you."
"I thought I was a pain-in-the-ass?"
"Oh, you were that, too." Dean teased. "But you were still you. You could beat my ass to the ground within three moves. Better than any damn hunter I know. And you were right, that night, about what you said before you left. We shouldn't have gone through that as kids, but...for some reason, part of me is glad we did, because I got to be with you. And Sam. After all of it...you and Sam made it worth it."
Zoey could only smile.
Even when she was younger, as much as Dean never listened to a word she said and always did the opposite of what he probably should have done...he was here. With her. And, once she took away all the moments of him being her very own pain-in-the-ass, maybe he was her childhood crush too.
But they were both more than that, now.
They were grown adults. They were living their lives, and sometimes it would be more dangerous than the typical life, but they couldn't focus on that right now. They didn't need to focus on that right now.
All they needed was each other. And they couldn't have been more happier.
Zoey moved closer, the kiss starting out soft and slow before she whispered against his lips. "I love you, Dean."
He pushed a few strands of hair behind her ear and smiled. "I love you, too."
They both smiled lightly before moving in closer and sharing a kiss. Zoey's hands came to his face. She could feel the stubbled beneath her hands. Dean's own hands pushed through from her cheek to the back of her head, through her hair. His other hand was against her hip as she moved upwards and straddled his hips.
A moan came from the back of Dean's throat as she did so. Zoey pulled him closer and he soon found himself sitting up, pulling her closer if that was even possible.
All they needed was one another. And they would have, for the rest of their lives.

Saying “I Love You.”
Summary: Dean Winchesters x Fe!Reader ~ The four times Dean Winchester said “I love you.” and the one time you meant it as something more.
FLUFF! FLUFF! FLUFF! (mentions of periods, kissing, falling in love and like, one swear word)
Tumblr media
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The first time Dean Winchester told you he loved you, it was when he got back from Hell. Not straight away, though. It had been after a werewolf hunt. It had been pretty simple for this kind of hunt.
Sam was still inside the motel room, fast asleep. You knew Dean hadn’t been sleeping much since he got back, waking up with terror in his eyes. More than usual.
The morning had been cold, the icy mist and fog slowly settling across the fields across from them. The motel they found was in the middle of nowhere. Much like the pack had been.
Dean looked back, hearing the motel door open and close. You stepped out, your body wrapped in a pair of jeans, a long henley - one that, let’s be honest, probably belonged to one of the boys - a flannel (also their’s) and a thick woolen jumper along with a pair of boots on your feet.
“Hey,” you smiled. Your voice was quiet. The first word of the day.
Dean smiled seeing your hair, slightly messy from sleep. Your face was slowly growing in colour and your eyes were still showing tiredness.
“Hey,” Dean said back.
He was leaning against the Impala, watching the fog and mist across the grass, a cup of coffee in his hand. Dean didn’t really know how long he’d been up, but it was long enough for his coffee to be colder than it should have been.
“You weren’t in bed.”
You and Dean had shared a bed that night. Like every night. You had been hunting with him since Sam left for college. It was both your own solo hunt and Dean’s. You worked it together. You stuck together after that.
Neither of you really could remember why or how you both decided to stick together but it was better together than alone, so that was something.
Dean seemed to dodge the statement all together, reaching round behind him. “I got you coffee. It’s probably cold by now but-”
“Thank you,” you smiled. “I love it.”
Dean smiled back before taking a drink and looking back to the fog.
“You can talk to me, you know. I won’t tell Sam if you really don’t want me to.”
You could see the look in his eyes. Distant. Lost.
“Dean?”
You placed a gentle hand on his upper arm, and that was when he looked at you.
“I love you.” Dean blurted out, looking at you. No, not looking at you. Looking into you. Like his entire head was talking to you through telekenisis, letting you know about everything he wished he could say outloud.
“Not in the “I’m-madly-in-love-with-you.” way, so, you don’t have to look so worried.” Dean said with a small laugh. “I just...you’re my family. You and Sam. And, I love you.”
You gave him a light smile. He’d tell you when he’s ready.
“I love you, too.”
You placed a long kiss to his cheek before landing back on your feet.
“Next time you wanna leave in the middle of the night, at least leave me a blanket. You are my designated human heater.” You joked, finding a smile spread on Dean’s face.
“Sure.”

The second time Dean Winchester told you he loved you was during a hunt. It was just a quick one. One that was so flippant that you didn’t even realise either of you had said it until Sam brought it up later that night while Dean was at a bar and you were left with Sam in the motel room.
You were, once again, pretending to be FBI agents. You were interviewing a couple of suspects and speaking to local police when you were given a lead. You would call Sam and search it out together whilst Dean stayed back at the Police Department so check out a few more things.
“Just, be careful?” Dean had asked you before you left the station.
You smiled and gave a nod. “I will.”
“Okay. I love you.”
“Love you, too.”
Other people who had heard around the station just gathered you were partners in both work and life so didn’t really question it. Sam, however...this had been the first time he’d heard it.
“So, what was all that about earlier?”
“What was all what?” You asked, your eyes not leaving the case files in front of you.
You had found Dean a few hours ago still at the sation in the back. The lead Detective, when you walked in, pointed you to the room.
“He’s been in there since you left.”
“Thanks.”
You walked in slowly. Dean was sat at a small desk, his tie off, his top buttons undone and his hair a little messy but in an attractive way. Not that you would tell him that. It would probably only boost his ego.
You had to basically drag him to the bar.
The last couple of weeks, Dean had been getting too far into the work. Hell, Sam was beginning to spend more and more time at a bar than researching. And his time at being at both hadn’t changed.
“All that before. The...I love you.” Sam smiled.
You thought back. “Oh. Oh, yeah. It’s just...what we said. We’re family. It’s normal.”
Sam gave a smirk. “The only time Dean has ever told me he loves me, to my face, in actual human words is when one of us is dying.”
You looked up to Sam across the room and smiled. “Well, maybe it’s about time we said ‘I love you’ without any of us dying. Sam, he didn’t mean nothing by it. Not in the way you’re thinking.”
Sam smiled. “I- I’m not thinking anything.”
“Yes, you are. And you can stop. We’re good friends, Sam. You and Dean...you’re my family.”
“Alright.”
“Stop.”
Sam couldn’t hide his smile. “Okay, okay. But, just tell me one thing?”
“What?” you asked.
“Will you make Cas wear a dress as Maid-of-Honour?”
You rolled your eyes and threw one of the library books at Sam’s head.

The third time Dean Winchester said ‘I love you’ was in the afternoon not long after they found the Bunker.
Sam had gone on a run, Charlie was sat at the table typing away in her own little world and Dean was out on a beer run.
And yourself, you were stood in the kitchen cooking the first decent meal you’d all had in a long, long time.
“Hey!” Dean caught Charlie’s attention before he threw her a bag of chips.
“Oh, my god, you found them?!” Charlie smiled.
“Last in the store. You’re welcome. And for the chef for the evening,” Dean pulled out a bottle of orange soda. One they hadn’t sold in years. Not anywhere outside of your home town, anyway.
You smiled and took the bottle from him. “Aw-ww. Thank you. I can’t believe you found this.”
“Yeah, apparently they changed manufacturer a few years ago.”
“Well, thank you.” You jumped up and kissed his cheek before remembering you had something for him.
“Pie? You- You baked me a pie?” Dean asked as you lifted it from the counter.
“One fresh cherry pie. Just for you.”
“Just for-” Dean looked from the pie to you with a wide smile before he pulled you in for a tight hug. “Have I ever told you how much I love you? Because I do. So much. I love you, so, so much.”
You smiled and let out a laugh.
“Hey, I helped!” Charlie called out from the table before she scrambled out from the bench and over to both of you, joining the hug.

The fourth time Dean Winchester told you he loved you, it had been much like second. It was just flippant. Said casually as if it came off his lips and tounge every single day. And, let’s be honest, it did.
He might not have said the words ‘I love you’, but he said them in other ways. In the ways he made you coffee in the morning. How, after a night of drinking, you didn’t even open your eyes as you walked into the kitchen and grabbed what you thought had been a coffee pot.
“Why does my coffee taste of apples?”
Dean was soon beside you. “That’s because it’s apple juice.” He took the cup from your hand and placed his own coffee mug in it’s place. “Here.” Dean had a soft smile on his lips as he watched you drink your coffee and visablely relax and leant against his chest as he stood beside you.
“Can you make the world stop spinning?”
“I would if I could, sweetheart.” Dean smiled.
It was in the ways he cleaned your guns when you got back from a hunt whilst you patched up Sam, not trusting the long-haired-moose to do it properly.
He said ‘I love you’ in the way he would let you hold his hand, make him sit down, and patch him up after you got back from a hunt and his mind had been elsewhere the entire time. It was in the ways he would cover you up late at night or how he’d walk you to bed and make sure you didn’t crash out in the hallway.
Dean Winchester said ‘I love you’ in the way that he would tell you what was going on in his head when you asked, whether that be verbally or silently with just one look. It was in the way he would look at you when you told him something or gave him something he needed when even he didn’t know he was in need of it.
You both knew each other like the back of your hand. And nothing would ever change that.
The fourth time Dean Winchester said the words ‘I love you’ was early one morning. You had been awake for about 20 minutes and he was going out on a quick store run.
“You need anything?” Dean asked you.
You looked around when suddenly, the two things you were looking for appeared in front of your face.
“Thanks.”
Dean smiled and nodded. You wrote him a list of items you needed, adding sanitary pads as the bottom of the list.
“Ooh, already?” Dean asked. He knew how painful your periods could get. There had been many times he’d washed your sheets whilst you got cleaned up in the bathroom.
He was a hunter. He’d seen a lot worse than monthly blood spilled onto sheets.
Those were the words he’d told you when you panicked and came back out of the bathroom and found him stripping your bed of your bloodied sheets.
You hummed in response.
“Okay.” Dean nodded. “You want me to pick you up some of that chocolate you like?”
“And potato chips!” You called out from where you had your head buried in your arms that lay folded on the table.
Dean nodded. “And potato chips. Okay. I’ll be back in 40 minutes. I love you.” Dean quickly kissed the top, his hands gently squeezing the top of your arms.
You mumbled back a response; “I love you, too.” but you were 30 seconds from falling asleep again.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Finally, the fifth time Dean Winchester told you he loved you...it was also the first. The first time he said those words in a way unlike any other he had before. It was the first time he said those three little words that had such a bigger impact than you throught they would have.
Everything seemed to change a few months ago. One day everything had been fine, normal, familiar. And then...it all changed. It was like everytime Dean wanted and went to say those three little words, he couldn’t. He’d say nothing and just hug you or oddly nod before leaving the room as quick as he could.
Usually it was the latter.
You had thought over and over again about what could have happened, what could have been said but you couldn’t.
You had been in pain. Both from cramps and from the fact you got thrown backwards at warp-speed into a barn door not more than a few hours before hand.
“You okay? You need anything?” Dean asked as he walked into the library where he found you leaning against the table, your head down and eyes squeezed as tight as your hands were wrapped around the edge of the wooden table.
You hummed tightly and shook your head.
Dean waited a few moments, knowing the pain would pass just enough for you to be able to move.
“Okay, come on. You got your hot water bottle?”
You nodded. “In my room.”
“Then you go and get settled and I will make you some of that witch-tea that Rowena brought the last time she was here.”
You gave a small laugh. “It’s just ginger tea, Dean. It’s not a magical potion - although it does feel like it is sometimes.”
Dean nodded slightly. “Maybe so, but when it comes from her, I will always be a little skeptical.”
That night, Dean fell asleep beside you, you cuddled into him as you both sat and watched old reruns of Scooby-Doo. Dean seemed to remember everything that happened from the episodes, even if he hadn’t seen them in 20 years.
That morning, Dean went missing and you eventually found him cleaning Baby in the garage towards midnight. He’d been out driving all day.
But you were about to get the answers you had been waiting for. The answers to why Dean had been avoiding you and trying to keep you at arms length.
It was late at night and Dean had been acting weird all day. It was like he wanted to be close to you but at the same time, run for the hills. And it was killing you. You just wanted to hold him. Hug him. Kiss him. Do something just to make him stand in the same room with you for more than 30 seconds.
Sam had gone to bed a couple of hours ago and Cas was on a ‘weekend get-away’. Something you and Sam had booked for him a few months ago. He needed a break from Angel business and hunting business. The retreat was warded against most supernatural beings and just enough so that Angels couldn’t use their powers. Niether could demons. It was a place of relaxation for all supernatural beings.
You were sat in the kitchen reading through some old case files that Garth had sent through. A couple of suspicious things had been happening two towns over. It might be nothing, but it was worth a look. You were finishing up on background research.
Standing, you walked over towards the stove and began making a cup of tea when you felt a presence stood by the door.
Dean.
“Hey, can-” Dean paused for a moment. “Can we talk?”
You wanted to yell yes. God, you’d love nothing more.
“Sure.”
Slowly, Dean walked inside as if he was waiting for the floor to open up beneath him. Every step just...please don’t break beneath me, you are the only thing holding me in an upright position right now.
“What’s up?” You asked, walking back over to the table, only, Dean intercepted you. Dean stood in front of you and eventually leanted against the edge of the table.
“Dean, I love that you want to talk to me but I thought this might involve actual words.” You said light-heartedly. “Dean? Hey, is everything-”
“I love you.” Dean blurted out, but the moment he did, his eyes went wide with panic.
“That’s what you wanted to tell me?” You smiled. “I love you, too.”
“No. No, I mean- I love you.”
You furrowed your eyebrows and tilted your head. It was like he wanted it to sound different but it didn’t.
“Dean? Wait. Hold on. You haven’t done something reckless have you?” You quickly placed down your hot cup of tea on the side and stood back in front of him with your hands on your hips. “Because I swear to god, if you have-”
“What? No. No. I haven’t done anything reckless. Or stupid. Or any other adjective you want to use. No. I just...God, I didn’t think this was the way it would go.”
“What would go?”
“Me...opening up...like this. What else am I supposed to say?”
You let a small laugh escape from your lips. “Say about what, Dean?”
“That I love you. That I’m in love with you. And not in a cool way, like, at all. I’m talking the ending of When Harry Met Sally; the whole you want the rest of your life to start right away speech.”
You didn’t know what to say. For one, he’d referenced a movie that he said he’d never watched - although you both had watched it together about two years ago and Dean knew most of the lines- for two, he was in love with you.
“Son of a bitch.” Dean spoke under his breath as he looked to his hands. “I knew I shouldn’t have said anything. Let’s just- can we forget this ever happened? Yeah, let’s just do that-”
Dean went to stand up but with a firm hand you pushed him back down to sit against the edge of the table.
“This is why you’ve been so weird the last couple of months?” You wasn’t really looking him in the eyes as you spoke, but once you finished, it was like Dean could feel your stear piercing his soul.
“What?” Dean asked. “Wait. I tell you I’m in love with you and that’s your recation? You could seem less offended.”
“No. No. I’m not...I’m just...when?”
“When?”
You nodded. “When?”
Dean straightened up, his hands relaxed in his lap. “Four months ago.”
You stood back and folded your arms. “Four months?”
“You called me a nerd before you fell asleep and told me you wouldn’t have me any other way. But four months ago, I just realised that I was. I was long gone before that.”
You knew something about that.
About a year ago, you had a freak out and you didn’t know why. Just woke up one day, Dean had cooked you breakfast and made your eggs exactly how you liked them - unlike Sam who, god love him for a tryer, just couldn’t get them right.
But, you being you, had taken it out on the case, freaking out of over the littlest things until Dean took you by the shoulders and made sure you were looking at him when he talked before he pulled you in for a hug.
That was when you knew you were a gonner.
He knew everything about you and it took you more than a decade to realise that you were completely in love with the legendary hunter, Dean freakin’ Winchester.
“You’re in love with me.” You said it as a statement whe you began walking backwards until you were finally leaning against the silver kitchen island. “You’re in love with me?”
Dean knew you well enough to know that this wasn’t a rejection. This was pure confusion and fear. But, to be honest, he’d been weird with you the last couple of months and then, close to midnight, had confessed his undying love for you.
You looked across at him. “This isn’t some cruel joke, right? You’re still you? I know this place is warded within an inch of its cement but...”
Dean was now in front of you and reached behind you for a container of salt and the small jar of holy water. He poured them both over his hand and then pulled out his silver blade.
It was him, alright.
“Look, you don’t have to say anything. You don’t even have to look at me but with how our lived have been in the last 20 years, I guessed I better say something sooner before we were hit with yet another life-threatening-world-altering threat.”
You nodded, rubbing your face before looking up to him. “Yeah, that’s probably a good idea. I’m in love with you, too.”
“You don’t have to just say it to make this less awkward.”
“I’m not. I’m in love with you. You remember my freak out last year? That was when I realised-”
“Y/N, you don’t have to-”
But Dean was unable to finish the sentence because less than a second later, your lips were on his. You could feel his entire body go stiff until he realised what was happening.
And after he did, it felt kinda...normal. Familiar, even. Like this was how it was always meant to be.
Just you and him. Together. Like this.
His hands came to both your face and your lower back pulling you in further to him as your hands went from his flannel shirt to his neck.
You didn’t know when you both broke the kiss, but either way, you both stood still in each other’s arms, holding one another, heads lightly against one another.
“I love you, Y/N. I’m in love with you.”
You smiled. “I’m in love you with, too, Dean Winchester.”
