After years of waiting, the local convention finally returned and I was able to do cosplay again, and I decided to go as Dollightful's Sakura doll.

The dress and wig are made entirely by me, both of which I've already posted about separately. And I managed to find a perfect match for the sandals on Amazon, though they ended up being a little loose so I had to shuffle-walk everywhere because I had no time to add extra strap notches or get insoles (they arrived literally the morning of). Thankfully, I learned my lesson from the last time I wore heels to a convention and brought trainers, so I didn't have to suffer the murder shoes the entire time or get blisters on the soles of my feet (again). The wig was, unsurprisingly, heavy. As well as awkward to wear, since I had to hold it back when leaning to look at something and crouch instead of bend if I wanted to reach something low lest it all fall forward. The glue-gun method I used to create the wig also made it feel more like a helmet from all the glue stiffening it, stopping it from sitting right and squeezing my head if I wore the securing band for too long.

Despite the issues presented by my wig and shoes, I'm still really proud of how the costume turned out and received a lot of compliments and requests for photos while at the convention. I even won the cosplay!

Sloane is done! (basically)

This is my first custom Monster High doll, and I learned a lot of cool new art techniques in the process. I think making my own little guy irl has fixed me. Get my comic HELLAWEEN wherever books are sold Pre-order HELLAWEEN: Spellbent out Aug 20 Progress pics under the cut!

The clothes were hand sewn and the plaid pattern was drawn on in sharpie. I also ended up making each piece twice as I figured out what did and didn't work with the doll proportions. Shout out to @Dollightfully's etsy shop for having easy to follow patterns I could modify! After stripping all the paint and hair I added modifications with apoxie sculpt to better match Sloane's design, color matched with acrylics and added depth to the face with soft pastels. They also received top surgery with sand paper and a lot of patience. The best part, the face!! I sealed everything up with Mr Super Clear and got to work layering up color and lines with water color pencils + white acrylic for highlights and base coat for the eyes. For the hair I glued down pieces of faux fur and razored it into the shape I wanted. Tail needs to be attached, but otherwise this took me about three weeks on and off. Thank you to the free Clawdeen doll I got from work and a long hiatus for making this possible. Originally I just wanted to see if I could do this, but think I've unlocked a new niche hobby oops. Progress on my Dollightful Sakura wig. The hair is done, now I just need to style the hair, add the decorations and trim the ends.

Following a YouTube tutorial, I used hot glue to create and then stick the wefts to the wig cap, though I did sew on the outer layer to make sure the edges of the cap didn't show.

The entire thing is heavy (bending my DIY stand) just from holding it. I haven't tried to wear it yet, so I have no idea how heavy it'll be to wear (or warm).

And creepture 3 is complete. Took my time on this one because my brain is annoying. I hadn’t planned on changing the coloring of any of the creeptures, but when I saw the Banshee, I knew what I had to do. Years ago I watched a doll repaint video from @dollightfully , and ever since I saw her banshee, that’s the way I’ve pictured them. I thought about changing the dress to white, like her doll, but I thought that might be a bit too much.
