ooh it is a Long Time since i drunk blogged but it is my lovely father's birthday so am a bit peshed AND i have decided to rewatch the exorcist iii.

it is SO. FREAKING. GOOD.

i am a big damien karras fan and the actor who plays william kinderman in this film (and the character in general, having also read the book/watched the first film) reminds me of my beloved step-grandad, so maybe i am a bit biased.

BUT as a long time horror fan who has now watched nearly 700 horror films in 14 years, it is awesome. nothing will ever live up to the masterpiece of the exorcist, but doing a very decent sequel (we will not mention the abomination of the exorcist ii) is very impressive. and i just thought, given william friedkin's recent death, i would express my love of this under-appreciated film.

i adore damien karras as a character (no joke, naming my child after him), and i love that he got explored more. i also love william kinderman and i love that he got explored more. i love that they addressed the fact that, even as a very isolated person, damien had people who remembered and loved him (shout out to my boi joe dyer as well for this).

i also love a tortured character, and the idea of a fundamentally decent person having to share a body with a violent murderer, being forced to murder your best friend? TERRIFYING. PURE HORROR. the gemini describing in torturous detail how he dragged karras from a peaceful death (after he SACRIFICED HIMSELF TO SAVE REAGAN) to be a tool for evil. while his body was trapped in a straight jacket in a padded room. HORRIBLE.

and the ACTING. brad dourif is a wonderfull (pun indented for my fellow exorcist iii fans) genre actor and thoroughly underappreciated as a whole, never mind in this film, where he did the most phenomenal monolgues. but jason miller... goddammit, no one else could play damien. no one. he was gone much too soon, i don't have much to say beyond that because holy shit. 'i believe in slime and stink, and in every crawling, putrid thing, every possible corruption, you SON OF A BITCH, i believe... in you' SIR what a monologue!!!!!!!! KINDERMAAAAN. I LOVE YOU.

and, AND... the shots!!! kinderman and the gemini lit by separate beams, kinderman sat upright and still while the gemini is slumped and twitchy. the hellraiser-esque blood and gore from father morning. THAT shot of the white-robed figure after the nurse (god bless the series for including this AMAZING shot, it scared the crap outta me). kinderman moving to damien's side when he was freed of the gemini, and both being in the light together. AGH.

AND this is exactly why i hero-worshipped the series and will never get over it being cancelled: they got that the horror of the possession and the exorcism was just part of the overall film, which was also about the horror of being alone, of having to deal with something so much bigger than you without any help, of giving your life to something and then thinking maybe you were wrong... the exorcist is absolutely a classic, terrifying horror film but it is also so much MORE than what a lot of people give it credit for. and the exorcist iii really highlights that for me; yes, it's not not the scariest in terms of gore/jump scares/violence/tense atmosphere, and the exorcism sequence is corny and played out and clichéd, but as a film about people it is terrifying and brilliant and underappreciated (although at least it is generally recognised as being a better/more legitimate film than the second)

in 2020 a category III Kaju launched an attack on Oaro calling the Team into action

due to a technical malfunction the weapons system of the Blaster 99 went offline resulting in the destruction of the Jaeger and near death of it's pilots which was prevented due to the quick acting of the Havoc Marauder

At the end of the same year and the recovery of the second pilot team a new Jaeger was assigned to them - Omega-1

Wrecker and Crosshair are two of teh very few Pilots who survied losing a Jaeger.

lotr was created out of earnest love for the source material and the magic of filmmaking. the films took a total of 8 years to produce, including pick-up shots. they shot all three films continuously, well over a year, because peter jackson knew exactly what his vision would entail. the fellowship cast got matching tattoos after the experience because of how bonded they were by the end of production (john rhys-davies was the only one not to get one bc he said his stunt double, who does have a matching tattoo, did most of the hard work for him! ha!). the films put new zealand on the map and jackson opened the door for kiwi filmmakers of his generation and beyond in a way the world had never seen before. fun fact! the films also employed a huge number of Māori actors and you can actually hear and watch them doing the haka during specific battle scenes.

lotr is the perfect marriage of both 20th and 21st century filmmaking, expertly utilizing award winning practical and special effects mixed with cgi to create something wholly unique and almost timeless. compared to the two towers and return of the king being colour graded digitally, fellowship was still physically graded via colour timing (colourizing film in a lab, traditionally how all colour films were developed before the digital age), a prime example of just how new digital colour grading was in the industry. gollum was also a big first for the film industry: andy serkis shot his scenes in a motion capture suit (opposite elijah wood and sean astin), and the level of work weta digital put in to bring gollum to life resulting in such a sheer level realism was unprecedented. gollum still stands the test of time today and has aged incredibly well. the ai software, massive, was also developed for the first time for lotr to create large crowds and armies via visual effects, and changed the visual effects and 3d animation game forever. every single (computer generated) battle and crowd sequence you see in film & tv today is thanks to this software and lotr. the first time it was used was for the battle at helm's deep sequence during the two towers - and even then, that scene took over 100 days to film! the lord of the rings trilogy has been nominated 30 times and won 17 academy awards, honouring their revolutionary work in cinematography, score, visual effects, sound and picture editing, costume design, adapted screenplay, and more, and the return of the king was the first fantasy film ever to win best picture. the return of the king also accumulated eleven (!!) oscar wins, a record tied with titanic and ben-hur. aside from academy awards, the films, crew and cast have been nominated and awarded by countless guilds, boards and various awards ceremonies alike.

the rings of power however is a soulless cash grab that actively shits on tolkien's work, which is only loosely based on the novels at best. there are countless tolkien experts that can explain this much better than me, if you're interested in learning more i highly recommend reading up on it. the portrayal of galadriel alone is so severely out of character (just from the trailers!), i would argue these characters we know and love from the lotr books and films may as well be from an alternate reality of middle-earth. peter jackson and fran walsh are not affiliated with the rings of power. much like the house of the dragon, this is yet another attempt at attracting streams through the promise of nostalgia-bait, and it's riding the success of what came before it. and no, this is not because im a racist, woman-hating, anti-progressive, and elitist tolkienist, and the people who say this are performative and dont actually understand the underlying issue. the rings of power was funded because of jeff bezos personally involving himself in negotiations, and the series was created because he wanted it to be after obtaining the rights to develop a tv show. showrunners will label people like me criticizing and asking people not to support the series as anti-progressive until the cows come home because it makes them look good. if you still care about boycotting amazon, boycott this show. it's directly tied to bezos and his rotten money. if you must watch it purely for entertainment, fine, but this is a gentle reminder that pirating is easy and free <3

Sometimes I can't believe that some people think christmas is the best and most joyous time of the year. The way they automatically almost loathe others for not celebrating it is so ridiculous. I don't celebrate any holidays, like at all. I've been struggling with christmas for many years, it makes me feel depressed, overwhelmed and only reminds me of childhood trauma.

#i do not care what customer service jobs youve worked before. nothing will prepare you for library patrons #some real things from the log we keep of problems: a woman bringing in a squirrel #several people bringing snakes #a man being tazed repeatedly by cops in the middle of the room #today a guy set the building next door on fire then came in here and the cops had to come arrest him #unfortunately there are many overdoses in our bathrooms #sometimes people will just start fist fighting each other right in front of everyones books #sooooooooooo oh sooooooooooo many creepy people calling us repeatedly to masturbate to women reading things out loud #something that happens shockingly often is patrons typing their email address into google and screaming at us bc were hiding their emails #or like they dont know their password so the scream at us for not having that #a gentleman once began flinging feces at employees at one branch #once i was leaving work and someone FILMED ME and we literally never found out why #I've known many many people whove been stalked by patrons. one who had her house broken into #its a labor of love

#have been attempting to make a self-tape for this audition for DAYS #after a whole helluva lotta bullshit having to do with hunting down a time+space+camera to film with i Finally managed to get some takes #then some weird bullshit with the camera's sd card happened where i wasnt able to pull the files off onto my laptop #FINALLY able to copy the files to my laptop. For a Few Dollars More is my least favorite of The Dollars Trilogy but your posts are single-handedly going to make me rewatch it one of these days to see if I need to reassess my ranking.

honestly, all the films in the dollars trilogy are solid. but i find For a Few Dollars More to be the most rewatchable of the set, primarily because it commits the hardest to TMWNN's foil character.

I don't think any of the supporting characters in Fistful of Dollars are even halfway as compelling as Lee Van Cleef playing Douglas Mortimer. The chemistry Eastwood and LVC have in FaFDM isn't remotely comparable to Eastwood's interactions with, say, José Calvo as Silvanito in FoD. I think TMWNN is more fascinating when he's playing off a foil, and FaFDM delivers on that in spades. The dynamic between Manco and Mortimer is THE central focus of the movie, and I'm obsessed with it!

And aside from that, I think FaFDM is just a really Fun movie. FoD's slowburn cynicism is interesting, but FaFDM's humor and pacing makes me more willing to revisit it time and time again.
