it makes me so genuinely emotional how uhl is so consistently and unconditionally protective of the tarrons. literally as soon as he learned that there was a coup in the sibling's home he vowed to help keep them safe and even just within the first season of 3below we see that in full force. he doesnt demand any proof of citizenship of the two or their family, and when birdie starts brewing trouble and accuses the tarrons of being illegal immigrants he immediately the defends the two. and even when they do get their student id cards, he uses them as a way of reaffirming to aja and krel that arcadia oaks is their home now and that theyre safe here.

umbra de mancy / magica = basically the same character / fills the same role as in dt17. wanted her to have an Evil Magical Girl look to spite lena's sorceress outfit.

luna de mancy / lena = also mostly the same character. wanted to lean more into what punk style she already had. i love her arc in dt17, but here she reclaims her shadow magic + never has to reconnect with umbra ever. both she and umbra are ruddy ducks

sunny vanderduck / webby = shares an arc with cherry(huey), and while she still has the same role of having luna realize she deserves to have a good life and isn't a bad person, luna helps her realize that valerie(beakley) isn't the best guardian either...

twilight costa / violet = meets luna + sunny earlier on. outwardly she's mostly the same, but she struggles with feeling connected with other communities. american culture and her heritage, being too weird to one of the smart kids, and too smart to be one of the weird kids, being outcased from the rest of the [junior woodchucks]. but once she finds her place with luna, sunny, and cherry, she opens up her silly side more :)

oliver oca / gladstone: despite getting people to be around him with his luck, he knew he was still alone. never really seeing a point in trying to do things, when he knew his luck would handle it for him. his passivity worsens after the casino, where his efforts didn't help him get out. luckily, someone is looking to fix him... (post-development design. spoilers! he loses his luck. mainly connected to the rest of team magic through umbra, luna, and Rorschach Specter]

Queer DT17 headcanons

Get ready folks this is a long one

Scrooge: Ah yes the Crowley of Ducktales in terms of funky gender and David Tennant-ness. For a while I’ve been a fan of bisexual trans man Scrooge (before season 3 even aired) but I’m also toying around with him being some flavor of multigender

Donald: Bi trans man. This is real to me

Della: Lesbian who uses she/they pronouns, I haven’t decided on an exact headcanon for her gender wise

Huey: I actually don’t have a definitive headcanon for Huey tbh. There’s barely a headcanon out there for him I wouldn’t like

Dewey: I refuse to believe this kid conforms to gender roles no matter what. He is aro to me and I think he genuinely would describe his gender using his name

Louie: Gay trans boy who uses he/they. Something about wearing hoodies all the time is trans as hell

Webby: Lesbian 100%

Beakley: Also a lesbian and definitely had something going on with Black Heron

Fethry: Bi and idk about specifics in gender but probably uses they/he/she (also Gladstone is not on here because I genuinely lean towards him being cishet, sorry Gladstone)

Lena: Nonbinary lesbian whose gender is [shrug]

Violet: Trans girl but really hasn’t even thought about who she might like, it just hasn’t come up

Gyro: I’ve said it a million times but not even canon itself could convince me he isn’t a gay trans man on the aroace spectrum

Boyd: A definitely real boy. (I don’t have a definitive headcanon for him but Astro Boyd is such a trans episode to me)

Fenton: As said earlier, bisexual and uses he/they

Gandra: If you ask Gandra’s gender she’ll probably say “What are you, a cop?” (Bisexual and uses they/she but does not label gender other than ‘sure as hell not cis’)

Drake: Same as Gyro minus the aroace part (Launchpad is not on here due to canonically being pan and me not having a definitive headcanon on whether he is cis or trans, so putting him here would be a bit redundant)

Gosalyn: To me DT17 Gosalyn feels like she either is in or is about to experience a gender crisis, probably ends up describing herself the same way as Lena

José: Bi and stupid (affectionate)

Panchito: Gay (you can’t fool me, og caballeros movie) trans man. I feel this one in my bones for every version of him ever

Daisy: Bisexual trans woman

A Proposed Darkwing Duck Celebrity Voice Cast

Part 2: The Muddlefoots

As we continue on our voice cast, we now head over to Darkwing Duck's more than annoying neighbors (at least in Drake's eyes) the Muddlefoots!! They might not play a terribly huge role in the story, and might be used as comic reliefs, but with some stellar performances, I think they can more than faithfully capture the original family that we love to see Drake hate!

Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Honker Muddlefoot

Starting with the most recognizable and important member of the Muddlefoot family, Honker! Honker is a young, shy, and bright young duck with a knack for helping out others when they are needed. Now a kid actor like Jacob Trembley could have been an ideal casting especially if we're gonna age up Gosalyn, but I don't really think he has the sort of nasally voice that we can achieve for Honker. So that's why I believe Coleen O'Shaughnessy (Sonic 2, Naruto, Danny Phantom) would be a pretty good choice. Even though she's more of a voice actor and not a huge A-List celebrity like other actors in Hollywood, she has the voice that can definitely capture the innocence and like-ability of Honker that you can't really replicate with a huge child star at least to my knowledge.

Just her Tails voice alone screams Honker energy.

Seth Rogan as Herb Muddlefoot

The next member of the Muddlefoots who we will tackle next is the patriarch of the household, Herb! He's a jolly yet slow-witted dad with a good heart, but ultimately a more than irritating trigger for Drake Mallard. Now this casting was quite inevitable, as if Darkwing Duck is going to be remade by Seth Rogan's team, then chances are, he's going to play a character in the film. I do think however that Herb would be the best choice for Rogan (Monsters Vs. Aliens, Sausage Party, Neighbors). He may be a little deeper than Cummings take on the character, but he honestly checks out in a lot of the areas that define Herb as a character. Now we can only imagine Herb laughing in Rogan's iconic laugh. That alone would definitely drive Drake mad.

This would be the closest Seth can get to Herb but he's got the goofy and annoying side to him.

Leslie Mann as Binkie Muddlefoot

Continuing on with the matriarch of the family, Binkie!! Just like Herb, she's a jolly, and infectiously sweet mother, that fulfills the stereotypical mother we usually see in sitcoms. Her voice is also a lot more higher pitched as a result and it would be very difficult to replicate what Susan Tolsky provided for her in the past. We need an actress that can try her best to sound as close to the original as possible, and I think that Leslie Mann (Funny People, Rio, This is 40) would be the best pick. I was almost going to cast Jennifer Tilly, but her voice was a little too sulky for the sweet sounding Binkie, and Leslie has that natural speaking voice that his pure and sweet. It's not a perfect match to Binkie's voice, but it's more than fine for what we need for the character in my opinion.

Just her natural speaking voice should be enough to portray Binkie.

Brady Noon as Tank Muddlefoot

And finally rounding out the Muddlefoot family, we have the stand out member of the family who acts as the unlikeable bully, Tank. He acts as the tough and brash kid and makes everyone's life around him miserable, whether it be with Gosalyn, Honker, or even the clearly adult Drake Mallard. We need an actor that can channel the most coldest bully voice ever, preferably an actor that is close to a teen. Thankfully we have an actor who I think can do just that, and we don't have to look that far considering he's been in a production with Rogan before. Brady Noon (Good Boys, The Mighty Ducks Show, TMNT Mutant Mayhem) has got the right voice we need for a bully like Tank, and with his deeper voice as Raphael in the new TMNT movie, we can definetely age him up in the best way!

Even if he's not a bully in this scene, the way he speaks just feels right for Tank. 

It's not even out yet, but Brady's deeper voice can definetely fit Tank.

That concludes part 2!! The next part will tackle the members of Darkwing Duck's freelance agency S.H.U.S.H!! We'll look at J. Gander Hoover, Vladimir Gryzlikoff, Sara Bellum, and even Femme Appeal from the comics!!

As nice as it would be to have the current game voice actors as the Sonic characters in an animated theatrical movie, do you honestly believe that is even possible?

Like just look at the Mario movie from 2023. It was animated, but they still had no problems replacing all the game VAs (such as Charles Martinet, Samantha Kelly, and Kenny James) with celebrities.

Similarly, SCOOB also replaced everyone (Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Frank Welker as Fred and Dynomutt, Grey DeLisle as Daphne, Kate Micucci as Velma, and Jim Cummings as Dick Dastardly) except Scooby (making it weird they didn't get Frank back as Fred if he's already doing Scooby) with a celebrity as well.

So even if the Sonic movies were all animated with no live action, they'd still end up having to cast celebrities anyway. Only with the lack of new characters like Tom and Maddie, there's more pressure to cast celebrities for the Sonic characters rather than have the celebrities voice new characters while the Sonic characters keep their usual game voices.

And I do think Ben could work as a more cool and fierce daredevil Sonic if he was directed to sound like that. He does capture the teen feel of Sonic's voice that Ryan Drummond and Jason Griffith had more than Roger Craig Smith does (Roger definitely sounds a lot deeper as Sonic compared to Ryan and Jason). If he tried to, I do think he could actually do a good impression of Ryan Drummond's Sonic.

I would also throw in Danny DeVito as Eggman as a potential choice.

Looking at Knuckles' voices, a lot of them are pretty deep like Idris such as Michael McGarhan, Ryan Drummond, Scott Drier, Dan Green, Travis Willingham, Dave B Mitchell, Fred Tatasciore, Adam Nurada, and Vincent Tong. If anything, Idris sounds more like Knuckles than whatever the heck Brian Drummond and Bill Wise were trying to do.

im going to be honest i really don't think ben schwartz fits game sonic's personality. like i've heard him in other pieces of media and i really don't think he has the range beyond this sonic chracterization. idk maybe he just happens to play the same character over and over again and COULD be able to capture a more devil may care sonic but i really can't see it. i honestly think they'd be better off keeping roger craig smith. i wouldn't really call ben schwartz a popular hollywood actor anyway and rcs is huge in the voice actor industry. he's like tara strong basically.

to me eggman and sonic should keep their game voice actors if i had my way and it was a fully animated film but everyone else could be fair game; honestly even eggman i could budge on because im sure there's plenty of voice actors that can play a good maniacal mad scientist villain (just not.. whatever jim carrey was doing). i just think they could have done a better job with their casting because idris elba was NOT a good choice for knuckles and honestly im not super fond of ben schwartz even with this characterization of sonic, though i think i just might not like his voice lol.

the idea though is that like... the movies SHOULD keep their game voice actors. i know other movies didn't do that and most people actually aren't super thrilled when they do that (people were upset that mario's va wasn't going to play mario). i know there's a push to replace them but im saying their SHOULDN'T be even if thats the way the industry is.
