If You Would Promise Me Your Heart
For my Eddie, @steveshairychest.
Every nerd in Steve’s life had their mythical creature niche.
Robin loved pixies. Channelling their mischievous energy into her everyday life, bouncing around the store while they were on shift, even joking she’d get a pixie cut one day.
Nancy, though she would deny it to anyone outside their circle, loved fairies. Soft but calculating, intelligent and beautiful, when they had visited the ren faire the year prior her cheeks matched her glittery wings.
Dustin loved hobbits and Steve loved to affectionately call him one even as the boy grew just as tall as him, the excitement that crossed his face when Steve agreed to watch the movies with him made the confusing deep lore worth it.
Lucas loved ents. Steve would often find him in the woods just listening to the trees, he was the only one of them that would still brave the forest at night, the trees would keep him safe.
Max loved harpies. If Steve were to give any proof that these creatures existed, he’d just tell you to look at Max’s face when some boy told her girls can’t skate.
Will loved merfolk. When they visited the beach last summer Steve could see the years of stress melt away from the young boy’s face as he listened to the waves, the water washing away the memories.
El loved elves. She loved the many forms they came in from fantasy to Christmas, that they could be fun or loud or quiet or brave, that they could be whatever they wanted to pointy ears just made them a little special.
Mike loved griffins. He knew that being both just made you stronger, that you can be strong and brave and protect the things you love, that being different doesn’t make you less whole.
Erica loved unicorns. She would hit you if she heard you saying they were anything less than metal.
Which of course leads us to Steve’s favourite nerd, Eddie.
Eddie loved dragons.
The first thing he did once his scars had healed enough was to get a beautiful dragon tattoo across them, the rough skin almost like scales through the dragon’s back.
One of his most prized possessions is a massive red dragon figure for his campaigns.
Steve thinks he’s seen the How to Train Your Dragon movies more than every seven-year-old in the world because it’s the only things that make Eddie feel better when he has nightmares. He has seen them so many times that he can recite his own favourite scene by heart.
They’re in the small clearing in the woods behind their house, it’s spring, the afternoon is warm and the wind is calming. The sun is setting, they are sharing a small picnic, it’s perfect. The sun is bathing them in a golden light, Steve thinks Eddie would be beautiful even if the world was pitch black.
It’s time.
He whistles out the first few notes.
“I’ll swim and sail on savage seas, with ne’er a fear of drowning. And gladly ride the waves of life, if you will marry me.”
Eddie has turned to Steve recognising the song, his eyes are as bright as the love between them.
“No scorching sun, nor freezing cold, will stop me on my journey.”
Eddie’s eyes are shining, he’ll blame them on allergies.
“If you will promise me your heart, and love,” Steve looks expectantly at Eddie.
Eddie face breaks into a smile at Steve’s pause.
“And love me for eternity,” he continues, “My dearest one, my darling dear, your mighty words astound me. But I’ve no need for mighty deeds when I feel your arms around me,” Eddie sings pulling Steve to his feet as he stands.
Steve laughs as he continues, “But I would bring you rings of gold, I’d even sing you poetry!”
“Oh would you?” Eddie giggles.
“And I would keep you from all harm, if you would stay beside me.”
“I have no use for rings of gold, I care not for your poetry; I only want your hand to hold,” Eddie sings lacing their fingers.
“I only want you near me.”
The boys begin to spin and dance to only the tune of their voices.
“To love and kiss, to sweetly hold, for the dancing and the dreaming. Through all life’s sorrows and delights, I’ll keep your laugh inside me.”
Eddie begins to spin from Steve the joy bubbling up inside him, not even noticing Steve’s voice has gotten softer.
“I’ll swim and sail a savage seas, with ne’er a fear of drowning. And gladly ride the waves of life if-” the last words catching in his throat as he looks at Steve, down on one knee.
“If you will marry me.” Steve finishes, a beautiful black ring in the shape of a dragon protecting a ruby in its centre laying in a black box in his hand. “For the dancing and the dreaming, Stevie, yes.”

one single thread of gold (tied me to you)
ao3 is still down IS BACK UP NOW!!, so what better time to start posting Eddie's POV to my Steddie soulmate au lol - enjoy! (ps - I went ahead and kept the same taglist from Steve's POV, but please let me know if you want me to take you off!) Steve's POV, in case you want to see where this all started | Part 2
Eddie maintains that he would have grown up loving fantasy regardless of what his words ended up being; from a young age, fantasy and role playing were an escape from boredom or loneliness.
Back when his mom was still working - before she got sick - the library was an easy spot for her to drop him off during the summer where she knew he’d be safe while she was at work. After a long day of cleaning motel rooms, she’d pick him up and ask to hear what stories he had read that day, giving her entire attention to his recounting of Arthurian or Greek myths, or tales of wizards and dragons.
Once his mom got sick, Eddie brought the stories to her - battered copies of Tolkien and Stephen King, and Anne McCaffrey, borrowed from the library so he could read them aloud. That summer was mostly spent in hospital rooms and sitting in the arm chair while his mom slept on the couch after each round of chemo. His dad couldn’t be bothered to bring him to the library, so Eddie would grab whatever change he could find to take the bus back and forth.
So it was really no surprise to anybody that when he finally got his words, they had something to do with dragons.
Eddie didn't know it at the time, but the summer he got his words would be the last one with his mom. She was trying a new sort of chemo, one that would take longer and have a harder recovery than the ones before, so she'd asked Wayne to make sure Eddie still got to have part of the summer to be a kid - and to make sure he didn't have to see his mom so sick.
Wayne took the week off work so that he was able to spend the time with Eddie and for the first time since his mom got sick, Eddie had someone to take him to the park - the park! Hawkins was a much smaller town than Indianapolis, so the park wasn't nearly as big, but he didn't care, not when his Uncle Wayne was so excited to show him the new playground.
It was easy to let his imagination run wild once they got there - a stick he picked out of the woods became his sword and the clouds misting over the horizon were the breath of dragons. When he spotted a younger boy all by himself, it was an easy decision to invite him along - besides, it was always more fun to play pretend with friends than on his own.
And when he got home that day, he noticed some new words running the length of his side, from right underneath his armpit almost all the way down to his hipbone, there aren’t any dragons here.
Wayne noticed the words as he was helping Eddie get ready for bed, and stopped short.
"Eddie, when did you get your words?" he asked, voice careful.
"Today!" Eddie chirped, tugging his pajama top over his unruly curls. He'd been having so much fun with Steve, he didn't see a reason to stop and check, but he was sure that the zap of electricity he felt when the boy first spoke was when it happened.
"At the park?" Wayne asked. "Was it that little boy you were playing with?"
"Yep," Eddie said, allowing Wayne to tuck him into the covers. Wayne's bed felt so big - and it was huge compared to Eddie's bed at home - but Wayne insisted on taking the couch so Eddie could sleep in the trailer's one bedroom. "He's a dragon slayer. My words even say so."
Wayne smiled down at Eddie. "That's awfully nice to have, a dragon slayer of your very own."
"Can we go back to the park tomorrow?" Eddie asked. "He said he'd try and come back tomorrow at the same time as today."
"Sure, kiddo," Wayne said, pulling the covers up to Eddie's chin. "You know I love you, right? Very much."
Eddie nodded, somewhat confused. As much as he knew Uncle Wayne loved him, the man rarely said it out loud.
"Then you know I'm saying this because it's important. And you know I usually tell you that no grown-up should ask you to keep secrets, but... I wouldn't tell your daddy you got your words, or who you got them from. It might not be safe."
Eddie vaguely remembered an overheard conversation between his mom and dad, something about Wayne's words, and knew that his uncle was being serious. He nodded again.
"I'll always be here for you, Eddie," Wayne said. "No matter what, okay?"
Eddie smiled. He might have just met his dragon slayer at the park today, but he already had lots of people to fight dragons with, Uncle Wayne included.

Jumanji kind of AU where Steve and Eddie are frenemies (aka they would like each other if they weren't both dumb) but they're stuck together helping Dustin's mum to clean up her attic. Or better, Steve is cleaning and Eddie is snooping around, despite Steve's scolding. In his snooping, Eddie finds a worn-out notebook and a set of two dice he has no intention to put back in the box he has found them, no matter what Steve says to him.
They argue about it, then fight, and finally wrestle for the items, making the dice fall on the ground and land on a 2 and a 3.
Suddenly the room around them shakes, and before they realize what is going on, they find themselves catapulted into a fantasy land where creatures like trolls and dragons are very much real and alive, and every step of their journey seems to be described inside the mysterious notebook.
Eddie's thrill about being stuck inside a D&D campaign goes away quickly once he realizes that only Steve has the physical abilities to do the heroic acts he has always dreamed of. Steve, on his part, has difficulties relying on other people, not even when Eddie is the only one with the knowledge that can get them out safely.
Will they learn to work together or are these two idiots destined to be stuck forever?

Hic sunt dracones
Rating: Explicit
The day that Prince Steven Harrington turns twenty is the first sunny spring day after a seemingly endless spell of heavy rain that left the castle grounds drowning in mud and its inhabitants freezing and miserable in the inescapable dampness of everything.
But that is not why he will remember it so vividly for the rest of his life.
It is also the day that his father, King Richard, chooses to ride off into war with great fanfare, to strengthen the glory of Hawkins and expand its wealth and territory.
But this also isn’t why the day will be forever ingrained in his memory.
No, the actual reason Steve knows that he will not forget his twentieth birthday until the moment his heart stops beating and his eyes close forever is an entirely different one.
It is the day he finds the dragon.

After Steve plays DnD
Eddie waves to Jonathan as the kids pile into the car. Steve offered to drive them all, but it’s on Jonathan’s route home anyway, now that the Byers live up by the river, closer to everyone else.
Eddie goes back inside. Steve is cleaning up the game table, stacking the books and putting the dice into their bag. He pauses on the D20, turning it in his hands, his face furrowed with concentration. The facets glitter in the light.
“Beautiful, right?” Eddie asks. Steve looks up, surprised.
“Yeah, it’s cool.”
“You okay?”
“Yeah.” Steve puts the D20 into its velvet bag. He bites his lip. “Was I… Did I do okay?”
Eddie steps in, grabbing Steve’s hands.
“Of course! What do you mean?”
“I mean, it was my first time. I wasn’t sure if I was doing it right.”
Eddie grins.
“It’s Dungeons and Dragons, baby, not your gay virginity.”
Steve snorts and raises his eyes to the ceiling.
“I know.” He puts his arms around Eddie’s shoulders. “This was much more intimidating.”
Eddie laughs into Steve’s shoulder, kisses his cheek.
“You were fantastic.”
“Really?”
“Better than my wildest dreams.” He pulls back to look Steve in the eye. “You were really nervous?”
“Yeah. I know it means a lot to you. I didn’t want to disappoint.”
“You could never.” They’re swaying from side-to-side now, in the sort of slow dance that they do. “How did you know all that stuff about dwarves not liking cows milk? Or elves eating fish?”
“I read it in one of your books.”
“Which one?” Eddie had given Steve the basic introductory books, but none of the really deep lore.
“I don’t remember. Not one of the ones you gave me. It was on your shelf.”
Eddie pulls back.
“You read the ones on my shelf?”
“Yeah. Sorry. Was I not supposed to? Is that cheating?”
“No, not at all! It’s just… I wasn't expecting that.”
“I wanted to do it right.”
Eddie shakes his head slowly.
“Fuck.”
“What?” Steve’s eyes are wide and anxious. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I just really fuckin love you.”
Steve tenses in Eddie’s arms.
“Wait. Really?”
“Yes, really.”
“Oh thank God.” Steve sags against Eddie in relief. He rests his chin on Eddie’s shoulder and blinks away tears. “I wasn’t sure— nobody’s ever—“ he sniffs. “Mm. Love you.”
They stand there, letting that settle around them.
“Gnomes don’t like wheat,” Steve murmurs. “It irritates their digestion.”
“You’re literally my perfect human.”
“Mm. Not a human. I’m a Wolfborn.” Steve kisses Eddie’s jaw. “Child of a cursed lineage. Defender of my tribe.” He bites Eddie's shoulder, making him laugh and press closer. “And it’s a full moon.”
“Wolfborns aren’t werewolves,” Eddie gasps.
“I know. I never said I was. But I still like to howl at the moon.”
Eddie giggles and pulls Steve in for a kiss.
“Howl away, baby, it’s just the two of us.”

Modern au Eddie loves to play video games on this beat up old laptop he's had for years that is held together by duct tape and covered in stickers
Steve loves to sit next to Eddie and keep him company but while doing his own thing - texting Robin, scrolling through Instagram, looking up basketball scores - but occasionally he'll watch Eddie play. Pointing out characters he thought were hot, collectibles Eddie's missed, or a potential answer to a puzzle.
Idk I just love the idea of them happily keeping each other company and hanging out together even when they're not doing much at all or doing different things
Oooh!!! OOOH!!! Do we think Eddie is a rattle through the story line because he wants PLOT! And Steve is a completionist who collects every possible coin, item and weapon? That he speaks to every single npc because ‘Eddie! They might have had stuff for you!!’ And Steve just wants to have all the Things, wants his character to be prepared!
They are AWFUL at two players, at opposite ends of the gaming spectrum. When it isn’t free world games they are both pushing their characters to the edge of the screen to get to go they way they want to go. Neither of them are willing to compromise because they both think they are right. It ends in Robin turning the console off and both of them complaining because apparently they were having fun? You could have fooled Robin with the pouting and arguing.
OH OH!! They get a Wii!!! And they absolutely sabotage each other! Erica buys just dance because it’s fun and she knows she has more rhythm than tte rest of the party. Only Steve and Eddie commandeer it and don’t let go. Steve goes out a buys a new copy for Erica when they accidentally scratch her disk when Eddie lifts the whole console and shakes it when he loses another round to the computer player. (Steve won’t play with him anymore. Well that’s what he tells Eddie. Steve actually plays whenever eddie is out at band practice, determined to get better than him. They both tragically have two left feet)
Don’t mention mario kart anywhere near them. Eddie goes pale and Steve’s lip starts to curl. It’s not safe for anyone.
Eddie does online gaming with the party and the corroded coffin boys? They all talk all the time and Steve is just doing his own thing, listening in to the conversation and smiling to himself. He interjects every so often, shit talking people or laughing at Eddie being a sore loser.
BUT they actually really love playing the sims together and Steve has accumulated hours of watching eddie play Minecraft. It’s a weekday evening ritual they developed that they will reluctantly reschedule only in the most dire or circumstances. Their evenings usually end with Eddie on one side of the couch, Steve on the other but Steve’s feet in Eddie’s lap and trying to catch whatever food steve throws at him. It’s comfy, it’s easy and it’s them.

Excerpt that fit the Steddie Week Prompts:Together & Established Relationship @steddie-week Epilogue https://archiveofourown.org/works/46250131
“You always get so quiet when he’s on the road…” Max frowned at him, her unseeing eyes trained in his direction.
“He takes up so much air, I just don’t know what to do with the extra when he’s not around.”
Her lips twisted as she let out a sarcastic 'ha ha.' Then Max pensively rested a hand under her chin. “Hey. When’d you know about each other. For real. I know you got the house and were already like, inseparable, and the guys told me you got together like the week everything happened.”
“Whirlwind romance.”
“Yeah, but when’d you ‘fall in love?’”
“Why,” Steve asked suspiciously.
“It bugs me that I don’t know?” She shrugged.
Steve took a long sip from his mug. “When I asked Eddie to be with me I meant it. I wanted to be in a relationship, not mess around… 'Bout a week later I told him I loved him.”
"Wow."
“Eddie calls it our ‘Romeo and Juliet timeline.' I don’t recommend almost dying as a catalyst for falling in love, even though it happens that way in all the movies." Literally, three days at the max in most of 'em. Bad examples all around… including me and Eddie.
"That’s kind of intense. I didn’t know it all went so fast."
"Looking back, some of those days felt like lifetimes when we were in them. Remember when I got dragged down to the Upside Down? Even thinking about it tires me out. Felt like we were either biking or walking forever."
"Heh. Yeah, I guess so. Um, thanks. For telling me. I dunno if you get how chill you are sometimes Steve." She smiled at him and Steve could have levitated.
"That's rare. I guess that's you rubbing off on me, huh?"
Her smile grew even brighter.

Thinking about Steve and Eddie’s nightstands. Steve keeps his organized with mini organizer containers so everything is separate and has a place; his glasses case, pain reliever, tissues, condoms, lube, pens, a notebook, a note Eddie wrote him when they first started dating, a photo strip of him and Eddie and Robin. Meanwhile, Eddie’s nightstand is overflowing: more condoms, more lube, more tissues, a voodoo doll, a broken slinky, a backup hanky, almost empty black nail polish, three Polaroids of Steve naked, a dozen guitar picks and hair ties, various rocks and beach glass, a single chopstick, a half eaten sleeve of saltines, a Corroded Coffin set list, Wayne’s old pocket knife, a compact mirror, more Polaroid film, a half finished love note to Steve that one day, when he’s done, will be on the other side of bed, he’s sure.

I don't think Steve's favourite song that would save him from Vecna would be "everybody wants to rule the world" by tears from fears and honestly that's so brave of me. It's a great song and I do believe it's one of his favourites to just listen to. But! I understand it in a way that the song that saves you from Vecna is meant to be a song that you love AND have an emotional connection to. It's important to you. It speaks to you. "Everybody wants to rule the world" ain't it folks. I will sooner believe Steve's song would be sommething like "somebody to love" by queen. I mean just look at him! That looks like a guy desperate to find love. If not that, then I'd sooner bet on "total eclipse of the heart" the song Steve and Robin sings in imitation of Tammy Thompson in the bathroom at Starcourt. The song that cements their friendship. The song that brings them together. Steve and Robin are platonic soulmates and I believe they think of that moment, that Tammy Thompson muppet imitation moment, as a symbol and token of their friendship, as the thing that brought them from friends to soulmates. And that would mean so much more to them, than any other song possibly could. It would be the anchor to bring them home from Vecna's hold. Not tears for fears or ABBA. But total eclipse of the heart and the memories and the reminder of Robin and the unshakeable love Steve has found with her

hello frien!! thank you for indulging me in this! :DD
Not that it would really be any of Steve's business if Eddie decided not to care of the wound, he just knew that Dustin would come to his clinic and cause problems if that happened. Steve heaved a sigh, watching Dustin and Eddie leave, knowing that he would likely have to find out where the angry elf would be staying in order to keep an eye on the injury.
Robin hovered around Steve nervously for several minutes before she finally spoke, "I promise he isn't always that grouchy," she said, like a liar.

A Balm For His Itch
Eddie itched, it was a terrible aching itch that reminded him of how his tattoos itched while they healed. But this itch was worse, a million-no a trillion- times worse. The difference was, the itch of his tattoos reminded him of the art that he chose to permanently leave on his skin while this horrible, all consuming itch was a reminder of how his skin was now permanently marred by the horrors of the upside down. The marks left behind by the demobats were just as permanent as his tattoos, including the horribly  ironic bats that he'd had inked into  the skin of his arm years before. These scars were not artistic expressions of Eddie’s personality. No, these marks reminded Eddie of the horrors that he had been through. They reminded him of the fear and pain he had endured while being hunted by actual real life monsters which he thought only existed in his favorite table top games and his more human tormentors in a town that had always viewed him as an outsider, as a threat… For the people of Hawkins, the scars on Eddie’s skin branded him as a villain, as a murderer.
Eddie Munson was well accustomed to the people of Hawkins making him out to be the monster. They called him a devil worshiper and a cult leader, but he never thought that the town would go as far as to call him a  murderer… The very thought made Eddie feel sick. It left a queasy feeling in his stomach that hadn’t seemed to entirely go away since the moment he heard Chrissy’s bones snapping. It made his skin crawl and he had to fight the urge to claw at the angry red marks across his body just to get the ache, the itch, the crawling sensation to stop. He just wanted it all to stop. He was so itchy… He couldn’t breathe… He was drowning… He was going to be sick… He couldn’t take it any longer. The overwhelming desire to make these feelings come to an end scared the metalhead. Eddie was scared of how far he might be willing to go to make it all stop. He found that weed, and stronger substances, had helped to make the feeling stop for a while but none of it lasted. He wanted it all to stop for good.
Eddie wanted to dig his fingers into the barely healed scars that littered his body. Eddie wanted to tear into his barely healed sides just to make the itching stop. He needed to make it stop because he couldn’t handle much more this. Not with the way that it made his ribcage feel two sizes too small to accommodate his lungs. His body was not yet finished healing but he wanted to undo every bit of progress that he had made toward recovery. The metalhead wanted to scratch off any scabs that remained along the jagged borders of the expanses of his ruined skin. Eddie wanted to feel his flesh tearing beneath his fingernails, which were ragged from his anxiety induced biting. He wanted to rip away pieces of himself until he found that horrible place inside of him that the itch was coming from and dispose of it forever… Maybe his own blood would soothe the itch that permeated deep down into his skin. The overwhelming desire to make these feelings come to an end scared the shit out of the guitarist.
The longer that the dungeon master was left to stew in his own misery, the darker the solutions were that his mind provided him to make his aching and itching stop. Eddie was terrified. He was scared of how dark his mind was becoming. He was scared of what his town was turning him into. He was scared of what would become of him if he stayed in Hawkins.  He was terrified of forcing the small groups friends that he had found to endure another death, another burden on their consciences. Most of all, Eddie Munson was terrified that he would end up leaving Wayne to find another corpse in their trailer.
Another corpse… Jesus H. Christ what had Eddie’s life become. A manic laugh bubbled up from Eddie’s chest and tore its way out of his mouth as he contemplated what had become of him. He dug his fingers into his hair and pulled until he felt a few strands begin to break off at the roots. Eddie needed something to ground himself before his mind could goad him into something far more sinister. The sharp pain of tugging on his hair or the fleeting pain caused by digging his fingernails into his palms would have once been enough to pull him out of a downward spiral. But now, no amount of hair torn from Eddie’s scalp or the bloody crescent shaped gouges in his palms were enough to ground him and stave off his bleak thoughts. He was going to need some help breaking himself out of the panicked episode that he seemed to be constantly living in.
There was no way that Eddie was going to be able to pull himself together on his own, not when his own mind was urging him to tear himself apart. Eddie needed help but he was too ashamed to ask for it. He knew all of his friends were working through grief, injuries, and troubles of their own and yet Eddie knew he needed to reach out. He did not want to burden any of his friends with his weakness. He may have come the closest to death this time but the party, apparently, had faced death head on many times and were not struggling the way that he was. Eddie was weak and he needed help.
He needed a balm to soothe the burning itch beneath his skin that begged to be scratched raw. He needed someone to keep him afloat in the sea of pain, depression, and itchiness that threatened to overwhelm him. He needed someone to throw him a life raft, he needed a helping hand, he needed a friend… Eddie needed Steve… Steve who somehow always kept a level head in the midst of chaos. Steve who was always there to take care of everyone. Steve who promised Eddie he would be there if the metalhead needed anything, anything at all. Eddie needed Steve who he knew would be the perfect balm for his itch and his troubled mind.
Before Eddie’s mind could catch up to what his body was doing, he had made his way to the kitchen and picked up his landline. He came back to reality as he shakily punched in the last digit of Harrington’s phone number, which Steve himself had jotted down and given to Eddie. The line rang… once… twice… and then the voice of Eddie’s salvation answered.
“Hello?”

If she wouldn’t have died the first episode then I’d have loved to see where chrissy and eddie’s relationship went bc they did have chemistry in the first episode. plus it was confirmed that Chrissy was 17/18 so people need to stop standing grace hate over her saying she likes the ship. joe gets no hate even though he’s also voiced his support for the ship. steddie is cute but that doesn’t mean you should obsess over it to the point of sending death threats to an actress.
stop being weird about mlm ships
