Quem: @edsbones
Quando abriu o berrador o corvino foi surpreendido por uma mensagem estridente: “AT MIDNIGHT, COME AND PICK ME UP WITH NO HEADLIGHTS”, se antes já estava confuso, a mensagem apenas tinha piorado tudo.

You’re so self centered and really believe that I would take my time of day to make your life miserable? Barty you’re an afterthought, I barely think about you besides when I watch how to get away with murder. I have absolutely no need to know about you or of you.
also you idiot, i didn't spread the rumor it was the case of a bad signal in the bathroom. your real culprits go by the name Evan Rosier & Edgar Bones.

01/18/24 - Bright lights hurt my eyes
I have this idea of people being candles. Those short, thin candles. Just billions of little candles, floating in an endless darkness, flickering away, completely unaware of what they are. And then they go out because candles don’t burn forever. But the tiny tiny area around them gets a tiny bit darker while everywhere else is completely unaffected. You wonder sometimes, how your life could be completely upended by a candle near you going out and somehow the world keeps spinning. Nothing changes, really. But also everything does.
And every now and then you meet a spotlight. And it’s kind of terrifying because you’re fucking blind now and what even is this thing? But as terrifying as they might be they’re something exotic, something magnetic, and how could this blinding THING ever possibly go out? But the idea of them ever going out is somehow more terrifying than the fact that they exist. Lightbulbs go out just the same as candles burn out though. Even the really really bright ones.
I think my great uncle Carl was a spotlight. I thought I liked him so much because he accepted me while no one else would. He used to call me ‘the next Edgar Allen Poe’. But not in a “ew weirdo” kind of way, but in a “cool, you know who you are even if that person is a little weird and dark” kind of way.
He got along with everyone and I don’t think he had a mean bone in his body, but there was a certain kind of sureness to him. Not like a doormat, where they’re so so so nice and people like them because they’re willing to stab themselves in the back for you and it’s like you can see them visibly wilting.
He wasn’t really anything special by society’s standards. The guy ran a farm, but he loved that farm. You could tell when he talked about it. And then he died. Fell off the tractor and got pinned. No one found him for a while and when they did, it was too late. Everyone said “if they had just found him sooner” but I thought it was a good way for him to go. He was doing the thing he loved more than anything. He was taking care of his farm in the end.
I always thought it was strange how sad I got when he died. I barely knew him. I met him a few times at family reunions, had a few short conversations with him, but I have a tendency to vanish as quickly as possible when I’m in any kind of social group setting.
I specifically remember talking to him once when I was pretty young. I don’t remember what we were even talking about, but I remember it was in my great grandmother’s living room, and I was actually enjoying the conversation. And then one of the other adults came by and started talking to him. When I look back at the memory I get the impression he wanted to keep talking to me, but for some reason I ran out of the room, like I had been waiting for someone to interrupt so I could leave, even though I know I wasn’t.
I think about it a lot. What we were even talking about, why I suddenly got so uncomfortable the second someone else started talking. Why I was so sad when he died, even though I never really knew him. Why he was just DIFFERENT. I wish I had gotten to know him better.
David Bowie was a spotlight.
I never got how people can get so sad over celebrities dying. You don’t know that person, they don’t owe you anything. I could see someone getting the overall ‘a person died’ sadness, or a little sad that they won’t be making anything new, but people acting like their best friend died is kind of extreme I think.
But David Bowie’s death did make me a little sad. Which was also confusing for me. When John Holohan died, I wasn’t sad, and I was a pretty big fan of Bayside at the time. I wasn’t even really a fan of David Bowie. I probably wouldn’t have even registered that the guy existed if he weren’t in The Labyrinth. His music wasn’t exactly my thing.
But there was this feeling of the world losing someone important. Someone that somehow needed to exist, and he was gone.
Not too long ago I came across a YouTube video with him in the thumbnail. Something about artists creating alter egos. I could never find that video again, but while I was searching for it, I kind of went down a rabbit hole of a bunch of other videos on his philosophies on life, and I kind of got it. The world does need people like him. Especially in positions where they can get other people to listen to them. But while he’s a spotlight, he wasn’t terrifying either.
He was just BRIGHT.
Maybe the whole spotlights being terrifying thing was kind of an exaggeration.
I’m not even sure what these spotlights are, exactly, how they do whatever it is that they do. And how is it fair, that you get to just flood out everyone around you? Did you do something to deserve it? Is it some kind of past life karma? Were you chosen at random? Some god sitting on a throne, rolling dice, “Third kid born on March 15th in this hospital, that’ll be the next one.”
But also, is it a gift or a curse?
In my experience, when there’s something rare or unusual about a person, everyone who doesn’t have it wants it, and the people who have it would happily give it away if they could.

who: amelia & edgar ( @ncfunerals ) where: mungo’s when: midmorning
“I never thought I’d say this, but thank merlin you could squeeze me in this afternoon.” Amelia dropped her bag unceremoniously on the chair and leaned against the bed, refusing to sit down in this hellhole unless she had to. “The Minister’s been looking for me all day and if I have to explain one more report to her, I’m going to end up fired.” It was saying something, that she would rather be in Mungo’s than at work, but really there was only so much Millicent Bagnold that one could take in a day. A quick owl all but begging her brother to let him check her over at the hospital instead of over dinner like she’d fought tooth and nail for later and there she was, free from afternoon meetings. Concussions were very serious and she was very important, who could tell her she shouldn’t go make sure she’d healed okay? “So, doc, what do you need to know? It’s been ages and no headaches, no dizziness, no I’m not getting enough sleep, yes I’m drinking plenty of water....”

Comprehensive Exam Readings
My research “question”:
Many writers of U.S. fiction insert nonfiction documents into their narratives to critique how marginalized citizens are excluded from their rights to equal protection granted by the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. I’m interested in how African American authors and other writers of color have employed these strategies since the end of World War II; for example, the inclusion of real warrants for runaway slaves in Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad, or passages from U.S. treaties with Native American tribes featured in Watershed by Percival Everrett. In the essay, I will identify, historicize, and examine some of these conventions, and drawing upon Assemblage Theory and Third Space theory,  explore how these subversions of the fiction genre might allow authors of color to highlight historical truths, erase some of the distance between literary and political realms, and possibly affect political change.
To be completed by September 2020. (note: Strikethrough is complete / Bold means I intend to cite them in my comprehensive exam)
U.S. Fiction (Post ‘45): Major List
Guiding Questions:
How do works of geopolitical American fiction since the end of WWII explore the ways in which American exceptionalism has subjugated people of color? Specifically, how do these works examine the ways American colonial rule define U.S.–indigenous relations; and how do these works continue to engage with race in America since the Civil Rights movement?

Theory: Assemblage & Third Space Theory
Guiding Questions:
Can fiction be used as a tool to engender a new sense of belonging while rejecting a stable state of being? If so, how can this framework of assemblage be applied in fiction to highlight the ways local identities intersect with shared global perspectives? Can an assemblage approach to fiction encourage accountability for civil rights without state sanctioned legal status?

THE DOOMED & STONED SHOW
~Season 5, Episode 26~
The year is 2022. The world is much hotter, food much scarcer, more crowded with people who have to sleep on the streets and in stairwells in overpopulated cities. In this hellscape, one intrepid detective named Thorn and his faithful "book" Saul seek to solve the murder of a socialite named Simonson. In the process the uncover a horrifying truth that could topple Governor Santini's regime and upset the fragile order of civilization. The truth of...Soylent Green.
As part of our Doomed Cinema series, Billy Goate has reimagined the soundtrack for the 1973 film with Charlton Heston and Edgar G. Robinson, an eclectic mix of futuristic synthwave, industrial metal, stoner rock, doom and sludge.

REFORMED SOCIETY aka HARSH PURI
[ UNCAGE | What Ever Not | DRED Records | made of CONCRETE | Bons Records | SUPERB Recordings , London UK ]
Brief bio of an artist: REFORMED SOCIETY is a project run by London based DJ/producer HARSH PURI who plays everything from Chicago and Detroit inspired house and techno to early acid house. A regular on the London circuit including a past residency at London’s infamous after hour party "Jaded". And having amassed a huge record collection both vinyl and digital over the past fifteen years, Harsh loves the challenge of playing different genres of music depending on the night and crowd in hand. He tries to keep the same approach when producing music as well. His last 7th EP  “Bend The Wave” was released earlier this year on vinyl via Marco Faraone and Norman Methner’s label UNCAGE with remixes from Bambounou and Obsolete Music Technology. He has also had previous releases on DRED, What Ever Not, SUPERB, made of CONCRETE and Bons.

We’ve got ourselves the first masterpiece of television for 2018.
Ryan Murphy has caught us all on his web once again. This time with American Crime Story – The Assassination of Gianni Versace(ACS).
For those who don’t know, Murphy is the creative genius behind many successful series over the past decade including Glee, American Horror Story and the first season of ACS – The People v. O.J. Simpson.
Murphy has become a household name for his successful adaptation of true-crime into masterpieces of TV.
The second season of ACS, supposedly deals with the 1997 assassination of famous Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace, played by Edgar Ramírez, who was gunned down in front of his Miami Beach mansion by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, played by Darren Criss.
But the series runs way deeper than that.
Versace’s assassination actually occurs within the first 10 minutes of the premiere, which by the way, are the most intense, beautifully dramatic series of shots television has seen in a long time. The cinematography, the music, the editing. The opening sequence of “The Man Who Would be Vogue” is a fantastic piece of art all by itself.
As we get into the episode, we start exploring the immediate aftermath of Versace’s murder as police begin the manhunt for Cunanan. We meet Gianni’s sister, Donatella, played by Penélope Cruz, and his partner of 15 years, Antonio D’amico, played by Ricky Martin.
But as they audience immerses into the story, Murphy’s peculiarity shines through as the audience realizes that Versace’s murder is not the highlight of the story but rather the knot that ties the murder of five gay men together.
If we think about it, we all know very little about one of the most sensationalized murders in America. All we really know is that Versace was gunned down in front of his mansion and that Cunanan committed suicide on a boat eight days later as his manhunt came to an end.
And what most of us seemed to forget: Versace wasn’t the only victim of Cunanan’s selfish, egotistic, jealous rage. There were four other men whose names are all but forgotten.
With the insight of two gay men serving as writer and executive producer respectively, ACS offers a deep look at the big role homophobia in the nineties played as part of the American culture that allowed four murders to go unnoticed until Versace’s murder. Even though he was also gay, he had something the other four victims lacked: money, fame, and power.
The casting of ACS is powerful and inviting. Despite not being the central figure of the story, Criss’ portrayal of Cunanan will probably earn him an award or two due to his fabulous job conveying Cunanan’s psychopathy in ways that show him as he truly was: an obsessed, jealous, pathethic man who couldn’t deal with failure or rejection.
Meanwhile, Ramírez’s physical transformation to resemble Versace is, to say the least, impressive. His portrayal of Versace not only as the titan of fashion he was, but as a generous, caring and openly gay man in the nineties promises to provide us with a unique insight of the designer that has not previously been shown.
One aspect many of us didn’t expect was Martin’s fantastic acting. Yes, he’s been a phenomenal performer for decades but acting I wasn’t so sure about. I wasn’t expecting much from him but his acting skills came through as soon as we see Versace dead on the mansion steps. We can feel D’amico’s grief in our bones.
When it comes to the technical aspects of ACS, Murphy’s artistry and his capacity to bring together the very best people of the industry together to make a phenomenal team is to be celebrated.
Every single aspect: the cinematography, lighting, music, editing, and casting are all out of this world. The quality of the production is impeccable and a gift for the eyes.
The Assassination of Gianni Versace is a gift to all the television lovers who appreciate fantastic storytelling integrated to a high-quality, movie-like production.
